Fatehpur Sikri was built in the late 16th century by Mughal emperor Akbar as the imperial capital of the Mughal Empire. Key buildings constructed included the Jama Masjid mosque, Buland Darwaza gate, tomb of Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, Diwan-i-Khas and Diwan-i-Am halls, Panch Mahal palace, and Khwabgah residence. Fatehpur Sikri was inhabited for only about 15 years before the capital was moved to Agra due to water supply issues, but it remains an architectural marvel and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
