The Effects Of Pre Trial Release Programs
Pre Trial Release Programs lets individuals be released prior to trial with conditions. Some of
these conditions are that you have to pay cash, wear an ankle bracelet while being on house
arrest, be alcohol/drug tested, or even be watched/monitored. Pretrial release programs can be
denied for capital offenses. The law allows release on personal recognizance of an unsecured
appearance bond. Common conditions: commercial surety, cash deposit, property bond, other
secured bonds, supervision and additional requirements . (http://www.ncsl.org/research/civil and
criminal justice/pretrial release conditions.aspx) Electronic monitoring is authorized for any
defendant eligible for release. A minimum of 500 dollars bond is required for failure to appear
while on pretrial release. There are several different options that judicial officials have at the
disposal when setting a defendants pretrial release conditions five basic conditions that a judge
or magistrate may set, NC statute lists them in 15A 534(a). There is the first one which is the
release on written promise to appear. This option basically allows the defendant to be released
without paying any type of bond, as long as he promises to appear in court on his written court
date. The second option is to release the defendant upon his execution of an unsecured appearance
bond. An unsecured bond is one that is backed only by the integrity of the defendant. No assets or
collateral is required to be posted on this type of bond. The

I m Being Interviewed On My Work On Christmas Island Essay
My name is Bruce, he said, into the digital recorder that I d placed on the bench between us. I m
being interviewed in relation to my work on Christmas Island, and my experience with the
movement of refugees from the Middle East and parts of Asia, via Indonesia, into Australia.
Illegally. It was a crisp afternoon in October at Battery Park in New York City. We sat by the
water, talking over takeaway cappuccinos from a nearby Italian cafГ©. Sunday tourists
streamed past us, chatting excitedly in foreign languages that were difficult to catalog. The
Staten Island Ferry floated by at a snail s pace on the smooth surface of the Hudson, cramped
with passengers straining for a glimpse of Lady Liberty and Ellis Island. Bruce was engrossed in
people watching; he snapped pictures, chatted with strangers, and when several women wearing
the hijab sat down nearby ventured to comment on how surprisingly multicultural Manhattan is.
Behind us, adjacent to the maze of caricature artists, overpriced beer vendors, and hip hop
dancers, stood the Castle Garden: the world s first immigrant depot. There we were, recording an
interview over the steady blare of ferry horns, in a place that millions of migrants legal and
otherwise have passed through. Bruce is a former officer at the Christmas Island Immigration
Reception and Processing Center, a facility occupied by around 3,000 detained asylum seekers on
a remote tropical island in the Indian Ocean. The island is an

The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber Essay
In Ernest Hemingway s short story The short happy life of Francis Macomber , we are presented
to problems some couples face. One of them being infidelity, although the one guilty of infidelity
does not face the consequences you normally would face if you were unfaithful to your spouse.
Another problem or theme in this short story is gender roles, the wifewants a husband who is rich,
strong and brave. The husband on the other hand just wants a beautiful wife, and maybe also a
faithful one too. Initially you get the impression that they are really living up to the expectations,
but if you read on you will find out that everything just isn t like it should be.
The couple in this story are named Francis Macomber and Margot Macomber. Margot,... Show

Margot on the hand does not show happiness or leniency towards her husband, on the contrary,
she gets furious as we see in the following example: Wasn t it marvellous, Margot? asks Francis
and she answers by saying: I hated it . In this whole incident it is clear that Margot is not pleased
at all, except for a quick moment in which she anticipates that this hunt might turn out the same as
the one before it: Then it s going to be just like the lion, said Margot, full of anticipation . It is
clear why she might wish that, because she wants to feel dominant in the relationship again, and she
will get a chance to taunt Francis again. But she doesn t. And in the end she ends up shooting her
husband, intentionally or not, Francis is no less dead.
The view presented in this essay is one that is also held by Mary Anne Ferguson in The
Dominating Wife: The Bitch . In it she argues that: Bitches are not born: they are at least partly
made by their environment, including the men in their relationships. Margaret Macomber s open
contempt for her husband may have been a result of the cowardice he exhibited except for a few
moments in his short life . But she misses the fact that even when he does show courage Margot
does not seem happy at all. And it is also after his courage that he is shot by Margot, not when he

Legalizing Steroids Is Dangerous
Legalizing steroids is dangerous because they are not controllable. Steroids are becoming
popular, but no one is stopping to take a look at all the facts about the use of them. Remy an avid
steroid user who regrets using steroids suggests, There is no controlled way to use steroids
(Campbell 3). Everyone s bodies react different to what steroids can do. Some more dangerous than
others. Controlling steroiduse is impossible because everyone uses different amounts and even a
little can be dangerous. Harrison Pope a professor of psychiatry at Harvard s McLean Hospital
says, The preliminary data on steroids suggest that long term use damages the muscle of the heart,
significantly increasing the risk of an attack (Butterworth 2). A continued use of steroids would do
damage not only on the heart but the whole body as well. Heart damage is very likely while using
steroids. Views of the opposition suggest that they are not worried about the un controlling factors.
Tim Cowlishaw a sports writer for the Pittsburgh Post Gazettestates, I think if we made everything
legal, we would learn eventually which drugs and creams, and heaven forbid, antler sprays actually
have benefits and what their risks are (Cowlishaw 1). If society made steroids legal, controlling
amounts would not be imaginable. Anyone could get their hands on it, which could lead to over
use and endangerment of human health.
Legalizing steroids represents cheating in all sports across the nation. There will always

Implementing Best Procurement And Acquisition Practices
In order to institutionalize best procurement and acquisition practices in an organization, I would
begin by forming a cross functional team made up of supply management personnel, finance
personnel, attorneys, human resources, engineers, and other subject matter experts. As was
highlighted in chapter ___ of the class text, this is the best approach for ensuring that the broadest
possible range of ideas and perspectives are incorporated early into the planning process.
Additionally, it ensures that a great idea conceived of by one functional area is viewed from within
the restrictions and/or limitations imposed by another. As with specifications development, this
process allows the team to develop a reasonable, effective, and implementable plan that works
across functional areas and provides the greatest return on investment. One company that has been
particularly successful in implementing best practices is Toyota. I would adopt that companies
approach to implementing best practices by delegating responsibility down to the lowest level. For
example, if anyone on the factory floor spots a deficiency, he or she has the authority to stop the
assembly line so that the condition and its contributing factors may be examined, recorded, and
analyzed. This same principle could be applied to the acquisition process. By empowering rank and
file purchasers, contract specialists, contract administrators, and quality control personnel to
approach managementand provide input on

East Of Eden Analysis
In John Steinbeck s East of Eden, the plot mainly follows the life of Adam Trask, past and future.
His two children, Caleb and Aaron, provide biblical parallels similar to Adam and Charles. The
second half of the book is following these two children grow up and mature. When Caleb discovers
the truth of his mother, he is overcome with great shock, but soon learns how to cope with the truth.
Not only does he simply withstand the news, he grows greatly from it as well. Through this
moment, he gaining deeper insights on the worldthan Aron, and that he is his own character.
From that experience, he matures in many aspects and his relationship with Adam improves. He
becomes more empathetic and patient, willing to listen to Adam s concerns. Cal also copes with
Adam s constant unfair treatment to him compared to his brother. Adam would talk about
subjects with Cal that he would not have been able to with Aron. He is able to comprehend his
burdens, whereas Aron would have been too fragile. Cal even starts a business to help his father
through his debt, his priorities rearranged. When his father rejects the money, he manages to
realize that he had the power to control himself when Lee says, I told you you could control it if
you wanted (544). He becomes more open to different outcomes than his expectations to situations.
Cal also begins to love and appreciate his family more. Upon discovering his own person more, he
becomes more understanding and open minded. Cal then mentions to Cathy in their talk her
missing something? Like as if the others knew something you didn t (465), which could possible
mean her empathy. Along the discussion, he finds his own capacity for empathy.
By becoming more empathetic, Cal slowly begins to realize how his brother functions. From his
heart to heart talk with Adam, he gains a sense of protection towards Aron, whereas he
previously envied him. He is not a worse person simply because Aron is loved more by his father.
He recognizes that he is his own person whose value is not decided purely on his family. Cal also
recognizes that his state of mind is stronger or better than his brother s. Aron is the epitome of the
saying ignorance is bliss . Aron focuses on the single path he

A Critical Analysis Of Into The Woods
Into the Woods is a famous musical. It premiered on Broadway in 1987 and has been performed
over 700 times before ending in 1989. The musical is a collection of fairytales from authors Jacob
and Wilhelm Grimm and Charles Perrault and put together in a story with music and lyrics written
by Stephen Sondheim and dialogue written by James Lapine. The musical incorporates characters
from fairytales such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel
and recreates their stories in one storyline. Into the Woodsfollows a baker and his wife who have a
desire to have children and start a family. They soon learn that their inability to have children is
a curse brought upon by a witch. Meanwhile, characters from different fairytales have other
personal goals they want to achieve as well. Through certain circumstances, each respective
character gets their wishes granted and lived happily ever after, only for consequences to occur
afterwards. The story is set in a setting similar to the Middle Ages, with kingdoms, farmers and a
world filled with magic. The story is another fairytale that brings a number of fairytales together
and brings in different worlds to merge into one to tell one unique story. One of the main themes
of Into the Woods is the idea of having a happy ending. After the protagonists go through a tough
journey, a sad beginning to a strange experience, a happy ending is often the best result. After

Culture Summary For The Malaysian Culture And The Culture...
Culture summary for the Malay
As described by Manning Nash, the people of Malaysia, also known as the Malay, are a very
culturally diverse people. Malaysia is located in southeast asia, primarily thought of as the
Malaysian peninsula, Malaysia also includes Sabah and Sarawak, which is located upon the Island
of Borneo. Although some Malays live upon Borneo about 90 percent (Nash, 2011) live upon the
peninsula. Those who traditionally live on the Islands are known as the Iban culture. Although the
Ibans live in the same geographic location and the Malays, the Ibans differ culturally from them.
Ibans are anciently known to fight members of other tribes aggressively, practice headhunting, and
slavery (Sutlive and Beirele, 1995). Unlike the ancient Iban tribes, members of the culture Malay
come from various ancestors and find root in both Chinese and Indian cultures and have a language
that is described as somewhat similar to modern Indonesian. However, the Indonesian language has
greater dutch influence whereas Malaysian has English influences.
It is said that settlers came to the Malaysian peninsula in large numbers over a series of a few
years. Immediately, the aborigines that once settled on this land were pushed out. The history of
the Malaysia we know today began with Malacca Sultanate in about AD 1400. This empire, based
mostly on trading, played an important role in the spread of Islam throughout Malaysia. The
religion of Islam was widely and readily accepted.

The Seductive Lure Of The Temptress
The Seductive Lure of the Temptress As a seductive force of nature, luring with the tongues of
pure elegant lust and desire, the temptresses villainous ways can always be a struggle for a
character to even resist. Being able to use temptation as a gift or art, the temptress is a mythical
archetype in which is a distraction to the protagonist on his journey, causing the character to
forget the overall quest they desire to fill their spiritual needs. Nevertheless, the temptress can
not only be just a woman seeking desirable sexual exchange, but instead can be any entity used to
distract, lure, or tempt of any character through the use of appealing words and/or actions. A
woman could easily be a temptress, luring men to her sexual ways, but a force of nature could
easily tempt someone of the same exact stature, causing the person to fight the struggle of the
evil temptation to either be defeated by the temptress or continue their journey. As of the
journeys in The Odyssey , Odysseus struggles with that voyage of getting home to Ithaca.
Though many of his obstacles were eluded by himself, the Aeaean Island takes the best of the
crew due to starvation and exhaustion. The crew searches the island for food, but instead finds
the house of Circe, they could hear Circe inside, singing in a lovely voice as she moved about
weaving a great tapestry, the unfading handiwork of an immortal goddess. (Vol. A, 443). As elegant

Evaluation Of A Patient With Mental Status
Last week I was at the hospital, doing my usual clinical rotations. I was assigned a patient who
was admitted to the hospital for altered mental status. I was a bit scared to work with this
patient because I was never exposed to people who are not mentally stable. When I came to see
my patient for the first time, I saw that he was accompanied by a woman who told me she was
the aid who was working with him. I was surprised to see that the patient was curled up in the bed
and not moving. She explained to me that the patient was legally blind and also had dementia. She
also said that he was somewhat combative to the doctors and nurses because of his unfamiliar
surroundings and therefore he felt like everyone there was trying to hurt him in... Show more

I was also chosen by my clinical instructor to administer medications that day. I waited for the
professor to come around and sure enough, all the medications which were to be taken by mouth,
had to be crushed and administered that way. He was receiving anticonvulsants and also
antiseizure medications. We crushed all the medications and mixed them into some of his pudding.
When I came to give him the spoon of pudding, he was asleep. I gently awoke him and told him
that I had his pudding. I tried putting the spoon in his mouth and he pushed my hand away. Then,
the aid got up and tried holding his hands and telling him that it was good for him and he would get
ice cream after this. I finally got half the spoon in his mouth and just when I thought he took the
pudding, he spit out the entire thing onto his shirt and arm and started wiping the pudding off his
mouth with his sheet. My clinical instructor told me to stop trying and that he would get the nurse
to try and finish giving him what was left.
I was having a lot of thoughts and emotions while this episode was unfolding. There was of course
the fear of the patient that everyone in the hospital was trying to hurt him, and there was also my
fear that if he would not get his anti seizure medications, he would seize in the next few hours and
that would be my fault. I also did not like the response of my clinical instructor to the whole
situation. Instead

The founder of Psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud was a physiologist, and medical doctor and a
psychologist. During the span of his research in psychotherapy he was criticized by many who
claimed his research was not science. Although it has been decades and Freud s work has filled
many of today s psychology textbooks, there are contemporary critics who still question the
legitimacy of Freud s scientific work. Sigmund Freuds achievements unlocked the unconscious
and developed modern psychotherapy. Freud s childhood was more than ordinary. The structure

Freud also mailed small doses of cocaine to Martha affirming the great effects it possessed. Freud
was never addicted to cocaine. His real addiction was his research (Anderson, 2001). His cocaine
experiments ended in disaster when one of his patients died from overdose.
Freud began exploring other methods of therapy including magnetism, where he believed he could
use magnets to move sickness from one side of the brain to another. But none of these techniques
were effective. Then a man named Jean Martin Charcot introduced hypnosis therapy to Freud. This
caught Freud s attention because hypnosis is another way he could unlock and explore the
unconscious mind. Relaxing on the psychiatric couch was the optimal position for a patient to
undergo hypnosis. Freud gained a lot of research about the unconscious through hypnosis therapy.
Later, Freud concluded that the patients sicknesses were not getting better through hypnosis simply
because they could not recall anything from when they were hypnotized.
Freud looked to other methods of psychotherapy and was influenced by a man named Josef
Breuer. Breuer told Freud he had a special case patient, Anna O , who was diagnosed with hysteria.
Every time Anna O talked about her symptoms they would suddenly be suppressed (Anderson,
2001). This was known as the talking cure. Freud adopted this method in his practices and his

Argumentative Synthesis Of President Obama

Argumentative Synthesis
President Barack Hussein Obama was the forty fourth president elected into office in 2008 and the
first United States president, under the constitution, of African descent. He has worked his way up
from the Illinois State Senate to the US Senate then officially sworn in as president on January
20, 2009. Considering his background in politics, logically, he should be a responsible,
trustworthy candidate for president yet that does not stand for his mentality of how to run a
country. He has portrayed himself as a person of significance by supporting the same sex
marriage law, preventing the unnecessary travel of oil and petroleum, and fighting for paid
leave for company employees; nevertheless, he has caused grief to appear in the families of war
participants. Conversely, pre presidency, Obama promised to end the war of American troops
fighting in Afghanistan in the year 2014, he promised to direct revenues from oil drills to
increase coastal protection, he also promised to become a person who unites the American people;
however, has this so called president kept any of those promises or have they long been
abandoned? As Barack Obama s second term comes to an end, it is apparent that Obama is one of
the most hypocritical presidents in American history.
On Friday, November 6, 2015, President Obama refused an agreement with a Canadian oil

The Confessio Of St. Patrick Analysis
In The Confessio of St. Patrick, Patrick writes of his life after his conversion to Christianity and
his life leading from then to his elder years. St. Patrick most known for converting Ireland, writes
of his call to the Green country, his devotion, and his fear. In these writings, he acknowledges his
failings, and his devotion to Christ. The fifth century missionary and bishopof Irelandstarted out as a
pagan. His later conversion led to slip ups during his times of need where he would call upon his
old Gods and pray for their help. After his trials, he mentions again the Christian God and thanks
him. In doing so, he shows his humanity by showing his error. He writes of this fault with the
quote Helias, Helias with all my might (288,182) with his intention to acknowledge it happened. In
his work, he makes a point to not showcase his errors, but how his devotion guided and him, if not
at times blindly.
Patrick wrote of his fear of God. Which could have been connected to his honest writings and his
conversion. His honest writing may have come from the belief of if it was acknowledged, he wasn

On many occasions, he wrote how God had guided him places and spoke to him of his devotion.
He believed himself to be a significant figure in God s plan for not just himself but other people

you, touches the apple of my eye. (289,264) He believed to repay God for his love and protection it
is necessary to spread the word of God all over the world. That it was a believers duty. He writes a
quote from God Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me

Control: A sole proprietor has total control of the company and they make all the good decisions
and they must deal with decisions that did not turn out the way they intend. The other notable
factor in being a sole proprietor of a business is what would happen to the business if the owner
became ill or died; typically the business would stop operations based on the structure and debts
would need to be resolved as well as customer commitments would need resolving based on the
type of business. Profit Retention: In addition to reaping the profits from the business, the sole
individual is also responsible for all debts incurred and for paying expenditures of the business.
Location: In addition to federal laws that govern business a sole proprietorship is governed by the
state laws in which it operates. If the proprietor opens another business location in a different state.
The new state laws will govern the other business location therefore requiring the proprietor to

John Hughes Sixteen Candles
There is much to say John Hughes marvelously crafted Sixteen Candles. Hughes interpretation of
what it s like to grow up a teenager trying to find themselves is impeccable. In this comedic,
blissful coming of age film, the story follows Samantha Baker or Sam as she is most often called as
she navigates through her sixteenth birthday; everyone forgot this very important day in Sam s life.
This movie truly has it all: annoying little siblings, misunderstood teenagers, an older sister who
sucks up all the attention, conservative grandparents, freshman geeks, the popular cheerleader, and,
of course, the hottie that everyone has a crush on. Though stuffed with stock characters, Sixteen
Candles somehow achieves a beautiful balance. The geek

Led Zeppelin didn t just turn into Led Zeppelin overnight. The band was formed from members
of different bands which allowed for sharing of different musical ideas and concepts which
overall made them unique. The band has its origins in Great Britain. Jimmy Page a member of

Impact of Remittance Due to Immigration in Nepal
Impact of Remittance due to Immigration in Nepal Background Movement of people to other
countries in search of employment is by no means a new phenomenon. Labor mobility has been an
important and essential feature of the economic and social development of societies throughout
human history. People are moving from one place to another since time immemorial and the
continuous movement has been an international phenomenon. Such movement of the people from
one place to another can be attributed to the rapid growth in transportation and communication
sector in the world. In case of developing countries, out migration has been an incessant and
evident phenomenon. Every year thousands of people migrate from their home countries in
search of employment opportunities. South Asia being a labor surplus region sends thousands of
labor to various nations every year. In case of Nepal, labor migration and remittance are the
major economic basis. Labor migration in Nepal has dramatically increased with the opening up
of new markets for Nepali labor in the countries like Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi

King Arthur
Are woman in the Arthurian legend depicted? The answer is found in King Arthur and his Knights
of The Round Table by Roger Lancelyn Green. The woman in the Arthurian legend were depicted
because they are tempting, cheaters, and liars.
The first example of the woman being tempting would be :
It seemed as if the horse was going to carry him right into the midst of the flood. Percivale tugged
at the bridle, but the horse would neither stop nor turn: to the very edge they came, and Percivale
saw the dark, foaming water roaring in front of him. Them he made the sign of the cross, and the
horse reared up suddenly, neighing wildly, and shook him from its back; then it plunged into the
river, screaming terribly, and was gone from sight; only it seemed that the water burnt after it (p.
250).
This quote shows that the woman the gave Sir Percivale the dark horse put upon a curse the
horse. The woman was a test to Sir Percivale so he shall not be tempted along his journey to the
Holy Grail.
The second example of the woman being tempting is:
Sir, she mummered, noble Percivale, I am yours for ever and ever; of all men in the world I love
only you. So kiss me now; pledge me in this bowl of wine, and swear that henceforth you will be
mine alone, and do all things that I command you. Then Percivale pledged her in the strong wine,
and bent forward to kiss her on the lips. But as he did so he thought suddenly of Blanchefleur his

The Lanval By Marie De France
The Breton lai Lanval , written by Marie de France in the twelfth century, is a short romantic
poem focused on a foreign knight, Lanval, and his life after meeting a faerie lover. The poem is
set in the time of King Arthur, at a place named Carduel a city in the along the borders of Arthur s
kingdom, Logres. In Lanval failure is a negative situation brought upon oneself by their inability to
maintain their virtue, thus successin the Middle Ageswas heavily influenced by loyalty and integrity.
Within Lanval , failure always ensues after a character breaks a promise or lies to another person,
whether doing so is intentional or not. When this situation occurs, the characters are not directly
considered failures by others, but instead failure arises from the circumstances of their situation.
This can be seen when Lanval simultaneously breaks his promise and insults the Queen:
I alone love
A lady who d win the prize
Over all women I ve known of
And I ll tell you this, without disguise
Just because you need to know
Her serving maids, a poor or low
One, even, the poorest in her train,
Is better than you are, Lady Queen:
In beauty of body and of face,
In goodness and in well bred grace. (Marie 294 303)
Not only does this outburst cause Lanval to lose his lover, but now, he must also prove to King
Arthur that he did not insult his honor by demeaning the Queen during his fit of rage. If Lanval had
not acted this way, he still could have been a successful knight, yet the

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Indian Students

opting for courses abroad, today students as young as 17 years are seen seeking information on

The reasons are plentiful. Need for global exposure and lack of opportunities back home are the
major reasons. The flexible functioning of educational institutions abroad is another attraction.

Only Acts provides the outline of Paul s missionary activity, from his conversion to his Roman
imprisonment (chapters 13 28). No record exists detailing the various missionary activities of the
other apostles although it seems possible they were doing likewise. The author of Hebrews is
unknown; however, the book is a superb comparison/correlation of the old and new covenants. The
apocalyptic revelation John received is addressed to seven churches of Asia and, while it gives
warning concerning their current treatment of the gospel, it also gives encouragement to them
pertaining to present and upcoming persecution. The New Testament is a wonderful piece of divine
literature and stands worthy of our confidence.
It is generally thought that Paul s writings were the first to be recognized in their circulation
among the churches. His letter to the Galatians appears like it was his first and to have been
written approximately 48 49CE. His other letters are thought to have been written during the 50

credited with having written his Gospel account as well as Acts sometime during the 60 70CE

The Substantially Likely Factor
The government has failed to demonstrate that the forced medication of Mr. Whitman against his
will, is substantially likely to render him competent to stand trial. To protect the liberty interests of
defendants who are initially too ill to stand trial, the Supreme Court implemented the four pronged
Sell Test. Per the holding of Sell, in order to physically subdue and forcibly medicate a sick
defendant who has not consented to treatment, the government must demonstrate by presenting
clear and convincing evidence, that such treatment is substantially likely to make the sick
defendant well enough to stand trial. See Sell v. United States, 539 U.S. 166, 180, 123 S. Ct.(2003).

1. What are some strengths and weakness of Freud s ideas?
Strengths:
Freud introduced us to unconscious motivations and how they determine our behavior. The study of
the unconscious mind became a base and paved the way for other therapists. Also, the
psychosexual stages were introduced which explain the biological and instinctual drive of children.
The structure of personality is the foundation of our impulses, behaviors, and our interactions in
our mental life. These include the id, ego, and superego. The superego prevents actions the id
wants to accomplish; which is important because we all have irrational impulses and the superego
saves us from those. It is important to look at the weaknesses of psychoanalysis and Freud s ideas.
The psychosexual stages stop at the age of six when development happens throughout someone s
lifetime. These psychosexual stages are his main focus and there is not much of a focus on how
important social factors are on our mental health and development. Psychoanalytical therapists can
sometimes be seen as subjective. The therapist analyzes the dreams and that is subjective. There is
no empirical research to support his psychodynamic model, although the theory does explain
reasons for irregularities in development. A common criticism is he blamed for inadequate

The Problem Of The Oil Pipeline Project
The current environment we are living in is vastly different than what it was a few decades ago,
urbanization and the industrial revolution have kick started changes within our environment. We
have left our mark on this planet, and it hasn t necessarily been a great one. Comparing images
of the Earth from a couple decades ago to currently, the ice sheets as well as the amount of green
are clear visible differences. Considering we do not have any other options of planets if ours were
to fail, we need to start taking better care of the environmentso that it can sustain us. Such matters
would include stopping the oil pipeline project that the United States has plans for. Scientists and
activists actively speak out against the building of such a pipeline as it will have drastically bad
consequences for the climate. The fossil fuel industries have tried meticulously to keep the plans in
action, paying off an environmental scientist, spying on activists and trying to reverse the president
s decision to veto the plans. Philosophically speaking these relate a lot to Chomsky s speaking on
the five filters, and Bookchin s thoughts on the environment. The oil pipeline is clearly a two sided
battle, the industry versus the environmental costs. Climate changeis large topic of concern with
more noticeable things changing within the environment and around the world. The rising sea
levels, the ice sheets, the spread of industry, and life as we know it taking away the natural world.

Evolution Of The Carcharodon Carcharias ( Great White Shark )
Maverick Wagner Evolution
2/20/15
Evolution of the Carcharodon carcharias (Great White Shark) Did you know that sharks appeared
in the fossil record about 450 million years ago (Natural History Museum, N.D.)? Since we know
that sharks have existed for 450 million years we know that they have had to survive many mass
extinctions. In these mass extinctions many of the predators that preyed on sharks were killed off.
These mass extinctions that the sharks were able to survive gave them the perfect opportunity to
rise up in the food chain. The most well known shark of our time, the great white shark, is said to
have appeared about 11 million years ago (Shark Savers, N.D.).
The great white shark is one of many different species of cartilaginous fish that exist today. There
are approximately 350 species of sharks worldwide (SeaWorld, N.D.). Of these 350 different
species of sharks the great white shark in particular has become one of the most feared predators
in the sea leaving the question as to how it achieved this success. Some of the primary factors
that have played a big role in the great white s success as a predator are its keen sense of smell
and its sharp teeth. One interesting fact about its keen sense of smell is that great whites can
detect one drop of blood in 100 liters of water and sense tiny amounts of blood up to three miles
away making them adept at finding prey that it has injured or an easy meal (National Geographic,
N.D.). When it comes to

Why The Evm Is Not Used For A Important Concept On...
I agree with to begin to collect reasons why EVM it is not used accordingly and based on that to
build up the examples. My first opinion is that EV is an important concept on measuring the
progress of the project, but not well explored as a significant tool and in such context, I think that
by knowing why the EVM is not used properly can lead toward how to use it. There are cases that
PMs know the conceptbut it is unusable for different reasons as well as there are many cases in
which the concept is not known. So leaving apart the second case, in which the concept is not
known because for my opinion this is the simple case, in my mere opinion, the reasons why the
EVM is not used correctly or it can not be used can be grouped by:
The project does not have requirements at all.
The requirements change frequently which make absolutely difficult to define correctly the budget
and the schedule.
There are wrong estimations of working packages.
The process of change management doesn t work or is ineffective.
The process of calculation Actual Cost is insufficient (reminding here cost collection).
The incorrect progress of the project.
I am pretty sure that the reasons I mention above can be enriched to a macro level with many
arguments why the phenomena happen. Here below is a couple of examples of my of my
reflections why EVM wasn t used properly:
The scope of Ice on Ice project was the upgrade of the infrastructure of the Call Centre. Lack of
understanding the

The Holy Bible, By William Miller
Many people often ask themselves: Who am I. why do people exist. They wonder is there someone
or something that created everything. Throughout history, cultures and countries have developed
their beliefs on what religion and God is to them. Churches today still share similar traditions and
beliefs as ancient churches, but yet there are so many sects of religion and followings. When you
think Christianityyou may miss count all the diverse teachings. With all these different teachings,
they all teach from The Holy Bible, but the scripture is translated in my different perspectives.
Even though churches all read from the same book, The Holy Bible , it all comes down to how
each church translates the word. Seventh Day Adventist is a type of Protestant Christian
denomination distinguished by its observance of the seventh day of the week in Christian and
Jewish calendars, which is Saturday. William Miller, S. S. Snow, Joseph Bates, James White,
and Mrs. Ellen G. White founded Seventh Day Adventists. Ellen White has several books over
the Seventh Day Adventist and her writings are still held in power by the Church. One of her
writings, 28 Fundamental Beliefs, provides the church with guidance. Some of the 28
fundamental beliefs include: belief in Trinity, belief in Life and death and resurrection of Jesus
Christ, belief in Unity in the body of Christ, belief in Baptism in full water submersion, belief in

Progressivism Dbq Essay
In the early 20th century, a fervent desire to allow the United States to escape from the corrupt
and unfair politics of the Gilded Age and to improve life for the employees in utter ignorance of
cleanliness or danger to [their] health (Document B) emerged. This great desire to reform society
became known as Progressivism. Under the leadership of three progressive presidents, Theodore
Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson, the Progressive Era
reformers and the
federal government brought low and moderate national reform, though these measures often fell
short of Progressive ideals.
Roosevelt took the first steps towards reforming American society with his square deal, although his
willingness to work with corporations and trusts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Progressive reform societies such as the National Women Suffrage Association
convinced Wilson to pass the 19th amendment allowing women to vote. (Although he did this
grudgingly, as Document H suggests.) Wilson believed that the fundamental wrongs of a modern
society [could] be easily and quickly righted as a consequence of a few laws, as Herbert Croly
puts it in Document F. However, Wilson s vision would be proven wrong. In 1918, the Supreme
Court ruled that the child labor laws Wilson had passed were unconstitutional in the case of
Hammer v. Dagenhart, as laws regulating child labor were purely a state authority, thus the laws
were repugnant to the Constitution . (Document G). Despite the antitrust acts, strikes and labor
violence continued to be a problem. The Ludlow Massacre, a confrontation between western
miners and state militia and the Boston Police Strike of 1919 exemplify that tensions still existed
between workers and employers. Finally, the reforms during the Progressive movement did very
little to advance the status of African Americans. The Chicago Race Riots of 1919 showed that
racial tensions and discrimination were still present in the United States. Despite the fact that
African Americans had fought gladly and to the last drop of blood; for America and her highest
ideals during World War I, they had to return to the shameful land of the United States

Physical Therapy History
The History of Physical Therapy
Hayley J. Harris
Arkansas State University
In recent decades, physical therapy has become somewhat of a hot commodity in America.
According the United States Department of Labor and Bureau of Labor Statistics (2014), the
number of physical therapy jobs is expected to jump an astonishing 36% by 2022, equating to
almost 280,000 licensed, practicing physical therapists. Physical therapy seems to have joined the
ranks of doctor, teacher, and astronaut in the list of typical career aspirations. However, many of
those aspiring students do not have a full understanding of what all physical therapy entails,
including where it all began. According to Michael A. Pagliarulo (2012) the term physical therapy
wasn t coined until the 20th century, but the concept of using physical measures to ... Show more

Pagliarulo (2012) goes on to discuss what was referred to as the Vermont Plan. This was a statewide
plan implemented by Vermont to observe and study the effects of polio. Through this plan, health
care teams including orthopedic surgeons, nurses, physiotherapists, bracemakers, and stenographers
began making field visits to provide care for children with polio. Measurements to determine the
muscle strength of those children affected by polio were then used to develop therapy through
exercise and massage. However, as more children were diagnosed with polio and more soldier
were returning home from war, the need for reconstruction aides increased. With this increased
need for aides became an increasing need for a professional body that could set a code of ethics and

Magwitch s Manipulations of Pip in Great Expectations Essay
Magwitch s Manipulations of Pip in Great Expectations
In Great Expectations, Charles Dickens criticizes the motivation of the lower classes to rise to the
level of wealth and education held by the upper classes by showing the extent to which Pip is
exploited by Magwitch to meet these goals. To meet the expectations of the gentleman, Pip must
leave his family and any possibility of earning his living in order to satisfy the educational and
societal demands of this standard. Magwitch, a social deviant, hopes to prove his viability by
using his unfortunate circumstances to produce a gentleman entirely by his own effort. Magwitch
exhibits Pip to the world as a gentleman who is not hardened by labor, but he does so by his ... Show

The title of gentleman therefore denotes one who passes his time idly without and obligation or
responsibility besides remaining socially amiable. The emergence of the middle class in the
nineteenth century allowed people not of noble birth to enter the ranks of gentility. Becoming an
educated and morally noble gentleman had come within the reach of those who had previously
been excluded. Industry made it possible for someone of the working class to elevate his social
position through his own efforts. This new definition of the gentleman had a great appeal among
the emerging middle class because high birth, the traditional passport to recognition as a gentleman,
could be side stepped at least in theory (Platz 152). This new opportunity created a split between the
traditional upper classes and the newly established English bourgeoisie. Dickens recognized the
paradoxical aspiration toward the position of an idle gentleman through labor. Obtaining the
appearance of a gentleman became more important than the means by which the facade is
constructed. Platz writes, Dickens Great Expectations can be interpreted as an attempt to dismantle
both the legitimacy and symbolic authority of the gentleman (162). Pip deceives himself by
accepting the old

My First Experience On The Zip Line In Las Vegas
I like to do adventurous things, and one of the things that I did was ziplining. I did it twice but
in two different locations. I had a fantastic time on both of these rides, both of them are
reasonably priced, and on each one I was scared, but that is where the similarities end. My first
experience on a zip line was in Ocean City, Maryland whereas the second time was in Las Vegas.
The zip line in Maryland was only 60 feet high; the one in Vegas was as tall as a skyscraper
standing at 114 feet. The zip line in Maryland was at an amusement park, has four landing
stations and in total was about 1,000 feet. While I was up 60 feet in the air, I was able to see all of
the rides around me. In Vegas, the zip line was on the street and had a length

Wheelchair Stereotypes
Myth 1: Wheelchairs Summary: According to the article 6 Stereotypes of Disability from Disabled
We Stand, one of the misconceptions was, if you re in a wheelchair, that can mean either that you
re deaf, dumb and stupid, or that you re a goddess on wheels. People approach you when they
usually wouldn t approach anyone else. Furthermore, others are drawn to people in wheelchairs
because they automatically feel pity and interest in the difference in lifestyles. Rather than letting a

would be a more accurate representation of who they are as a person. Example(s) Dispelling or

astounding and I was, frankly, blown away by her accomplishments. She was able to travel to
New York City to participate in fashion shows and had a little bit of difficulty when operating the
ramps, but as she said, she figured it out. She relied on an interpreter to explain to us what she was
saying, but as the interpreter said, she learned how to understand Delaina by repetition, as Delaina
would make certain shapes with her mouth when she would talk and the interpreter figured out how
to understand her over time. Delaina is the perfect example of an individual with a disability who
does not need help. She comes up with her own sketches, operates her own wheelchair, and can
type into her computer to let us know what she is thinking. Her brilliance was apparent when she
talked about how dedicated she was to her sketches and how she was honored to attend the
University of Florida. Instead of seeing Delaina as an individual who needs help opening the
door, or crossing the street, I saw her as a peer with much more amazing capabilities than myself.

Historical Accuracy Of Red Tails
In 1939 the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People started to target the

the country to integrate the armed forces. In 1941 a student of Howard University filed a
lawsuit to force the air corps to accept him into training. The corps answered to this by creating a
segregated unit to train black pilots. The Corps created segregated group called the Tuskegee
airmen. The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of african americans who volunteered to become
america s first black military pilots. My opinion of whether or not the movie Red Tails was

Negligence in Healtcare Law
MBA 5101 Unit 1 Case Study Gary Campbell Our text defines a tort as a civil wrong and
negligence as a tort, a civil or personal wrong (Pozgar, 2012). Negligence as it is related to
healthcare is an unintentional commission or omission of an act that a reasonably prudent
person or organization would or would not do under normal circumstances. Not following a
recognized standard of care could be considered negligence. The case I have chosen to study is
one from the Circuit Court of Baltimore City Maryland and is that of Enso Martinez a minor by

misjudging the state of her labor, Ms. Muhlhan performed an episiotomy, which is a procedure
performed upon immediate delivery in which the perineum is cut in order to enlarge the vaginal

Job Interview At The United States
Introduction At the age of 17 I enlisted in the United States Navy, and since have completed
multiple combat deployments, lived overseas and been a part of multiple other billets
representing the United States of America. These were times well spent, however, only to a very
limited extent did they prepare me to conduct an affective and articulate job interview. Present
day, the U.S. Military has implemented an extensive job interview process, with the goal of
selecting qualified individuals for vital roles within our government. The job interview project
opened my eyes to a world of preparation and focus that I never knew existed. In this paper, I
prepare a job interview strategy, identifying a few character traits that are the foundation of my
being, and then link these traits to memorable life experiences that have had a profound effect
upon me and those who I interacted with. The next few sections of the paper entail observations
and a critique of a recently conducted mock job interview, and my elevator speech which is hyper
linked for reference. I conclude with vital lessons learned throughout the job interview process and
project courses of action for a successful outcome from future interviews.
Key traits and life experiences that have shaped who I am

to appreciate all that this country has to offer, and not take the freedoms we enjoy for granted.

Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy Essay
Hysterectomy is one of the commonest gynecologic procedures, with approximately 600,000
women undergoing this procedure annually in the United States for various indications.9
Robotic assisted hysterectomy has gained widespread acceptance in many centers since U.S. Food
and Drug Administration approval in 2005. Several reports on the early experiences with robotics
for endometrial cancer surgery suggest potential advantages over traditional laparoscopic surgery,
including improved surgeon ergonomics, high definition three dimensional visions, and wristed
instrumentation that improves surgical precision.10The overall postoperative morbidity and
complications inherent in both techniques are nearly the same
Our study design contributes to the evaluation of the effect of the robotic assisted hysterectomy in
comparison to laparoscopic hysterectomy for the treatment of either endometrial hyperplasia or

Healthcare And The United States
Healthcare in the United States is a constant struggle. For generations the country has been in
heated debate over the best approach to this unsettling issue. While many changes have been
made, none seem to be effective enough to please and serve the country effectively. No matter
what course is taken there is always a group, or groups of individuals who are left out and
underserved. As a country we need to provide for all of our citizens to ensure healthy living and
overall quality of life. Unfortunately, our society is based off of socioeconomic class. This
becomes an issue in regards to healthcare requirements due to the fact that many poverty stricken
families go throughout their lives with little or no coverage at all. For those in good financial
standing healthcare is easily accessible, while the poor struggle and deal with illness in
inhumane ways. Millions of American citizens are uninsured; this number includes all walks of
life from children through the elderly. In order to overcome this devastating issue the American
people have to come to a decision on how to care for all of our citizens so that no one is left out.
In today s society this has become an even more difficult task as we face an ongoing struggle
within our economy, leaving many families in financial hardship. Why is it that as a society we
cannot overcome this obstacle? The United Statesof America, while not flawless, has reached great
success and achievements yet cannot provide proper healthcare

Throughout the history of the United States, illegal immigrants have come from all over the
world to find work and a better way of life. It is estimated that right now there are about seven
million illegal aliens living in America. About 69% of these illegal immigrants are Mexican and
over 283,000 of them live in Arizona1. In this paper, we presuppose that the illegal aliens we refer
to are Mexican. This is because the aliens living in the geographic area around the day labor center
we examine are over 99%

Background of Day Labor
3
These circumstances have lead to the reemergence of a concept that has existed for a long time:
day labor. Day labor used to be geared more towards American citizens looking for temporary jobs,
but has now taken a new turn in order to fit the necessities of illegal workers. Day labor is defined
as a practice of searching for work in open air, informal markets such as street corners or in formal
temp agencies ( Work, 307).
Under this type of labor, the undocumented immigrant is considered an independent contractor or a
temporary domestic worker, and therefore employers are not obliged to ask for work authorization
( Work, 325). Day labor is extremely beneficial to aliens in that it allows immigrants to enter the
work force without being required to have legal immigration status.
There are two types of day labor industries: informal and formal. Informal day labor consists
mostly of men gathering on street corners or parking lots to solicit work. It is considered
informal because it is in no way regulated. The men are often picked up by passing cars and hired
for the day on terms worked out between the employer and the laborer. By contrast, the formal
day labor industry is connected to for profit temp agencies. These agencies place workers in
specific manual jobs and take a percentage of the workers

  • 2. The Effects Of Pre Trial Release Programs Pre Trial Release Programs lets individuals be released prior to trial with conditions. Some of these conditions are that you have to pay cash, wear an ankle bracelet while being on house arrest, be alcohol/drug tested, or even be watched/monitored. Pretrial release programs can be denied for capital offenses. The law allows release on personal recognizance of an unsecured appearance bond. Common conditions: commercial surety, cash deposit, property bond, other secured bonds, supervision and additional requirements . (http://www.ncsl.org/research/civil and criminal justice/pretrial release conditions.aspx) Electronic monitoring is authorized for any defendant eligible for release. A minimum of 500 dollars bond is required for failure to appear while on pretrial release. There are several different options that judicial officials have at the disposal when setting a defendants pretrial release conditions five basic conditions that a judge or magistrate may set, NC statute lists them in 15A 534(a). There is the first one which is the release on written promise to appear. This option basically allows the defendant to be released without paying any type of bond, as long as he promises to appear in court on his written court date. The second option is to release the defendant upon his execution of an unsecured appearance bond. An unsecured bond is one that is backed only by the integrity of the defendant. No assets or collateral is required to be posted on this type of bond. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. I m Being Interviewed On My Work On Christmas Island Essay My name is Bruce, he said, into the digital recorder that I d placed on the bench between us. I m being interviewed in relation to my work on Christmas Island, and my experience with the movement of refugees from the Middle East and parts of Asia, via Indonesia, into Australia. Illegally. It was a crisp afternoon in October at Battery Park in New York City. We sat by the water, talking over takeaway cappuccinos from a nearby Italian cafГ©. Sunday tourists streamed past us, chatting excitedly in foreign languages that were difficult to catalog. The Staten Island Ferry floated by at a snail s pace on the smooth surface of the Hudson, cramped with passengers straining for a glimpse of Lady Liberty and Ellis Island. Bruce was engrossed in people watching; he snapped pictures, chatted with strangers, and when several women wearing the hijab sat down nearby ventured to comment on how surprisingly multicultural Manhattan is. Behind us, adjacent to the maze of caricature artists, overpriced beer vendors, and hip hop dancers, stood the Castle Garden: the world s first immigrant depot. There we were, recording an interview over the steady blare of ferry horns, in a place that millions of migrants legal and otherwise have passed through. Bruce is a former officer at the Christmas Island Immigration Reception and Processing Center, a facility occupied by around 3,000 detained asylum seekers on a remote tropical island in the Indian Ocean. The island is an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of them being infidelity, although the one guilty of infidelity does not face the consequences you normally would face if you were unfaithful to your spouse. Another problem or theme in this short story is gender roles, the wifewants a husband who is rich, strong and brave. The husband on the other hand just wants a beautiful wife, and maybe also a faithful one too. Initially you get the impression that they are really living up to the expectations, but if you read on you will find out that everything just isn t like it should be. The couple in this story are named Francis Macomber and Margot Macomber. Margot,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Margot on the hand does not show happiness or leniency towards her husband, on the contrary, she gets furious as we see in the following example: Wasn t it marvellous, Margot? asks Francis and she answers by saying: I hated it . In this whole incident it is clear that Margot is not pleased at all, except for a quick moment in which she anticipates that this hunt might turn out the same as the one before it: Then it s going to be just like the lion, said Margot, full of anticipation . It is clear why she might wish that, because she wants to feel dominant in the relationship again, and she will get a chance to taunt Francis again. But she doesn t. And in the end she ends up shooting her husband, intentionally or not, Francis is no less dead. The view presented in this essay is one that is also held by Mary Anne Ferguson in The Dominating Wife: The Bitch . In it she argues that: Bitches are not born: they are at least partly made by their environment, including the men in their relationships. Margaret Macomber s open contempt for her husband may have been a result of the cowardice he exhibited except for a few moments in his short life . But she misses the fact that even when he does show courage Margot does not seem happy at all. And it is also after his courage that he is shot by Margot, not when he is a ... • 5. Legalizing Steroids Is Dangerous Legalizing steroids is dangerous because they are not controllable. Steroids are becoming popular, but no one is stopping to take a look at all the facts about the use of them. Remy an avid steroid user who regrets using steroids suggests, There is no controlled way to use steroids (Campbell 3). Everyone s bodies react different to what steroids can do. Some more dangerous than others. Controlling steroiduse is impossible because everyone uses different amounts and even a little can be dangerous. Harrison Pope a professor of psychiatry at Harvard s McLean Hospital says, The preliminary data on steroids suggest that long term use damages the muscle of the heart, significantly increasing the risk of an attack (Butterworth 2). A continued use of steroids would do damage not only on the heart but the whole body as well. Heart damage is very likely while using steroids. Views of the opposition suggest that they are not worried about the un controlling factors. Tim Cowlishaw a sports writer for the Pittsburgh Post Gazettestates, I think if we made everything legal, we would learn eventually which drugs and creams, and heaven forbid, antler sprays actually have benefits and what their risks are (Cowlishaw 1). If society made steroids legal, controlling amounts would not be imaginable. Anyone could get their hands on it, which could lead to over use and endangerment of human health. Legalizing steroids represents cheating in all sports across the nation. There will always ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Implementing Best Procurement And Acquisition Practices In order to institutionalize best procurement and acquisition practices in an organization, I would begin by forming a cross functional team made up of supply management personnel, finance personnel, attorneys, human resources, engineers, and other subject matter experts. As was highlighted in chapter ___ of the class text, this is the best approach for ensuring that the broadest possible range of ideas and perspectives are incorporated early into the planning process. Additionally, it ensures that a great idea conceived of by one functional area is viewed from within the restrictions and/or limitations imposed by another. As with specifications development, this process allows the team to develop a reasonable, effective, and implementable plan that works across functional areas and provides the greatest return on investment. One company that has been particularly successful in implementing best practices is Toyota. I would adopt that companies approach to implementing best practices by delegating responsibility down to the lowest level. For example, if anyone on the factory floor spots a deficiency, he or she has the authority to stop the assembly line so that the condition and its contributing factors may be examined, recorded, and analyzed. This same principle could be applied to the acquisition process. By empowering rank and file purchasers, contract specialists, contract administrators, and quality control personnel to approach managementand provide input on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The musical incorporates characters from fairytales such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel and recreates their stories in one storyline. Into the Woodsfollows a baker and his wife who have a desire to have children and start a family. They soon learn that their inability to have children is a curse brought upon by a witch. The story is set in a setting similar to the Middle Ages, with kingdoms, farmers and a world filled with magic. Culture summary for the Malay As described by Manning Nash, the people of Malaysia, also known as the Malay, are a very culturally diverse people. Malaysia is located in southeast asia, primarily thought of as the Malaysian peninsula, Malaysia also includes Sabah and Sarawak, which is located upon the Island of Borneo. Although some Malays live upon Borneo about 90 percent (Nash, 2011) live upon the peninsula. Those who traditionally live on the Islands are known as the Iban culture. Although the Ibans live in the same geographic location and the Malays, the Ibans differ culturally from them. Ibans are anciently known to fight members of other tribes aggressively, practice headhunting, and slavery (Sutlive and Beirele, 1995). Unlike the ancient Iban tribes, members of the culture Malay come from various ancestors and find root in both Chinese and Indian cultures and have a language that is described as somewhat similar to modern Indonesian. However, the Indonesian language has greater dutch influence whereas Malaysian has English influences. It is said that settlers came to the Malaysian peninsula in large numbers over a series of a few years. Immediately, the aborigines that once settled on this land were pushed out. The history of the Malaysia we know today began with Malacca Sultanate in about AD 1400. This empire, based mostly on trading, played an important role in the spread of Islam throughout Malaysia. The Seductive Lure Of The Temptress The Seductive Lure of the Temptress As a seductive force of nature, luring with the tongues of pure elegant lust and desire, the temptresses villainous ways can always be a struggle for a character to even resist. Being able to use temptation as a gift or art, the temptress is a mythical archetype in which is a distraction to the protagonist on his journey, causing the character to forget the overall quest they desire to fill their spiritual needs. Nevertheless, the temptress can not only be just a woman seeking desirable sexual exchange, but instead can be any entity used to distract, lure, or tempt of any character through the use of appealing words and/or actions. A woman could easily be a temptress, luring men to her sexual ways, but a force of nature could easily tempt someone of the same exact stature, causing the person to fight the struggle of the evil temptation to either be defeated by the temptress or continue their journey. • 13. Evaluation Of A Patient With Mental Status Last week I was at the hospital, doing my usual clinical rotations. I was assigned a patient who was admitted to the hospital for altered mental status. I was a bit scared to work with this patient because I was never exposed to people who are not mentally stable. When I came to see my patient for the first time, I saw that he was accompanied by a woman who told me she was the aid who was working with him. I was surprised to see that the patient was curled up in the bed and not moving. She explained to me that the patient was legally blind and also had dementia. I waited for the professor to come around and sure enough, all the medications which were to be taken by mouth, had to be crushed and administered that way. I gently awoke him and told him that I had his pudding. I tried putting the spoon in his mouth and he pushed my hand away. Then, the aid got up and tried holding his hands and telling him that it was good for him and he would get ice cream after this. I finally got half the spoon in his mouth and just when I thought he took the pudding, he spit out the entire thing onto his shirt and arm and started wiping the pudding off his mouth with his sheet. My clinical instructor told me to stop trying and that he would get the nurse to try and finish giving him what was left. I was having a lot of thoughts and emotions while this episode was unfolding. There was of course the fear of the patient that everyone in the hospital was trying to hurt him, and there was also my fear that if he would not get his anti seizure medications, he would seize in the next few hours and that would be my fault. I also did not like the response of my clinical instructor to the whole situation. Instead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Founder Of Psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud Was A... The founder of Psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud was a physiologist, and medical doctor and a psychologist. During the span of his research in psychotherapy he was criticized by many who claimed his research was not science. Although it has been decades and Freud s work has filled many of today s psychology textbooks, there are contemporary critics who still question the legitimacy of Freud s scientific work. Sigmund Freuds achievements unlocked the unconscious and developed modern psychotherapy. Freud s childhood was more than ordinary. Freud also mailed small doses of cocaine to Martha affirming the great effects it possessed. Freud was never addicted to cocaine. His real addiction was his research (Anderson, 2001). His cocaine experiments ended in disaster when one of his patients died from overdose. Freud began exploring other methods of therapy including magnetism, where he believed he could use magnets to move sickness from one side of the brain to another. But none of these techniques were effective. Then a man named Jean Martin Charcot introduced hypnosis therapy to Freud. This caught Freud s attention because hypnosis is another way he could unlock and explore the unconscious mind. Relaxing on the psychiatric couch was the optimal position for a patient to undergo hypnosis. Freud gained a lot of research about the unconscious through hypnosis therapy. Later, Freud concluded that the patients sicknesses were not getting better through hypnosis simply because they could not recall anything from when they were hypnotized. Freud looked to other methods of psychotherapy and was influenced by a man named Josef Breuer. Breuer told Freud he had a special case patient, Anna O , who was diagnosed with hysteria. Every time Anna O talked about her symptoms they would suddenly be suppressed (Anderson, 2001). This was known as the talking cure. Freud adopted this method in his practices and his ... Argumentative Synthesis Of President Obama Gaibrielle Ruggs Mrs. Yessick ENG 101 16 November 2015 Argumentative Synthesis President Barack Hussein Obama was the forty fourth president elected into office in 2008 and the first United States president, under the constitution, of African descent. He has worked his way up from the Illinois State Senate to the US Senate then officially sworn in as president on January 20, 2009. Considering his background in politics, logically, he should be a responsible, trustworthy candidate for president yet that does not stand for his mentality of how to run a country. He has portrayed himself as a person of significance by supporting the same sex marriage law, preventing the unnecessary travel of oil and petroleum, and fighting for paid leave for company employees; nevertheless, he has caused grief to appear in the families of war participants. Conversely, pre presidency, Obama promised to end the war of American troops fighting in Afghanistan in the year 2014, he promised to direct revenues from oil drills to increase coastal protection, he also promised to become a person who unites the American people; however, has this so called president kept any of those promises or have they long been abandoned? • 33. William Shakespeare s King Arthur And His Knights Of The... King Arthur Are woman in the Arthurian legend depicted? The answer is found in King Arthur and his Knights of The Round Table by Roger Lancelyn Green. The woman in the Arthurian legend were depicted because they are tempting, cheaters, and liars. The first example of the woman being tempting would be : It seemed as if the horse was going to carry him right into the midst of the flood. Percivale tugged at the bridle, but the horse would neither stop nor turn: to the very edge they came, and Percivale saw the dark, foaming water roaring in front of him. Them he made the sign of the cross, and the horse reared up suddenly, neighing wildly, and shook him from its back; then it plunged into the river, screaming terribly, and was gone from sight; only it seemed that the water burnt after it (p. 250). This quote shows that the woman the gave Sir Percivale the dark horse put upon a curse the horse. The woman was a test to Sir Percivale so he shall not be tempted along his journey to the Holy Grail. The second example of the woman being tempting is: Sir, she mummered, noble Percivale, I am yours for ever and ever; of all men in the world I love only you. So kiss me now; pledge me in this bowl of wine, and swear that henceforth you will be mine alone, and do all things that I command you. In Lanval failure is a negative situation brought upon oneself by their inability to maintain their virtue, thus successin the Middle Ageswas heavily influenced by loyalty and integrity. Within Lanval , failure always ensues after a character breaks a promise or lies to another person, whether doing so is intentional or not. When this situation occurs, the characters are not directly considered failures by others, but instead failure arises from the circumstances of their situation. This can be seen when Lanval simultaneously breaks his promise and insults the Queen: I alone love A lady who d win the prize Over all women I ve known of And I ll tell you this, without disguise Just because you need to know Her serving maids, a poor or low One, even, the poorest in her train, Is better than you are, Lady Queen: In beauty of body and of face, In goodness and in well bred grace. (Marie 294 303) Not only does this outburst cause Lanval to lose his lover, but now, he must also prove to King Arthur that he did not insult his honor by demeaning the Queen during his fit of rage. Strengths: Freud introduced us to unconscious motivations and how they determine our behavior. The study of the unconscious mind became a base and paved the way for other therapists. Also, the psychosexual stages were introduced which explain the biological and instinctual drive of children. The structure of personality is the foundation of our impulses, behaviors, and our interactions in our mental life. These include the id, ego, and superego. The superego prevents actions the id wants to accomplish; which is important because we all have irrational impulses and the superego saves us from those. We had contentious debates, in results the House of Representatives selected me to serve as the U.S president, with Burr as my vice president. Over the two successful years, I lowered the national debt from $80 million to $57 million. Also, I was re elected and served my second term as president. In my second term, I passed the Embargo Act of 1807, suspending all trade with Europe. Over the years after I left office in 1809, I went to, Monticello, and helped found the University of Virginia. Evolution Of The Carcharodon Carcharias ( Great White Shark ) Maverick Wagner Evolution 2/20/15 Evolution of the Carcharodon carcharias (Great White Shark) Did you know that sharks appeared in the fossil record about 450 million years ago (Natural History Museum, N.D.)? Since we know that sharks have existed for 450 million years we know that they have had to survive many mass extinctions. In these mass extinctions many of the predators that preyed on sharks were killed off. These mass extinctions that the sharks were able to survive gave them the perfect opportunity to rise up in the food chain. The most well known shark of our time, the great white shark, is said to have appeared about 11 million years ago (Shark Savers, N.D.). The great white shark is one of many different species of cartilaginous fish that exist today. There are approximately 350 species of sharks worldwide (SeaWorld, N.D.). Of these 350 different species of sharks the great white shark in particular has become one of the most feared predators in the sea leaving the question as to how it achieved this success. Some of the primary factors that have played a big role in the great white s success as a predator are its keen sense of smell and its sharp teeth. One interesting fact about its keen sense of smell is that great whites can detect one drop of blood in 100 liters of water and sense tiny amounts of blood up to three miles away making them adept at finding prey that it has injured or an easy meal (National Geographic, N.D.). My first opinion is that EV is an important concept on measuring the progress of the project, but not well explored as a significant tool and in such context, I think that by knowing why the EVM is not used properly can lead toward how to use it. There are cases that PMs know the conceptbut it is unusable for different reasons as well as there are many cases in which the concept is not known. So leaving apart the second case, in which the concept is not known because for my opinion this is the simple case, in my mere opinion, the reasons why the EVM is not used correctly or it can not be used can be grouped by: The project does not have requirements at all. The requirements change frequently which make absolutely difficult to define correctly the budget and the schedule. There are wrong estimations of working packages. The process of change management doesn t work or is ineffective. The process of calculation Actual Cost is insufficient (reminding here cost collection). The incorrect progress of the project. I am pretty sure that the reasons I mention above can be enriched to a macro level with many arguments why the phenomena happen. Here below is a couple of examples of my of my reflections why EVM wasn t used properly: The scope of Ice on Ice project was the upgrade of the infrastructure of the Call Centre. Progressivism Dbq Essay In the early 20th century, a fervent desire to allow the United States to escape from the corrupt and unfair politics of the Gilded Age and to improve life for the employees in utter ignorance of cleanliness or danger to [their] health (Document B) emerged. This great desire to reform society became known as Progressivism. Under the leadership of three progressive presidents, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson, the Progressive Era reformers and the federal government brought low and moderate national reform, though these measures often fell short of Progressive ideals. Wilson believed that the fundamental wrongs of a modern society [could] be easily and quickly righted as a consequence of a few laws, as Herbert Croly puts it in Document F. However, Wilson s vision would be proven wrong. In 1918, the Supreme Court ruled that the child labor laws Wilson had passed were unconstitutional in the case of Hammer v. Dagenhart, as laws regulating child labor were purely a state authority, thus the laws were repugnant to the Constitution . (Document G). Despite the antitrust acts, strikes and labor violence continued to be a problem. The Ludlow Massacre, a confrontation between western miners and state militia and the Boston Police Strike of 1919 exemplify that tensions still existed between workers and employers. Finally, the reforms during the Progressive movement did very little to advance the status of African Americans. The Chicago Race Riots of 1919 showed that racial tensions and discrimination were still present in the United States. To meet the expectations of the gentleman, Pip must leave his family and any possibility of earning his living in order to satisfy the educational and societal demands of this standard. The title of gentleman therefore denotes one who passes his time idly without and obligation or responsibility besides remaining socially amiable. The emergence of the middle class in the nineteenth century allowed people not of noble birth to enter the ranks of gentility. Becoming an educated and morally noble gentleman had come within the reach of those who had previously been excluded. Industry made it possible for someone of the working class to elevate his social position through his own efforts. This new definition of the gentleman had a great appeal among the emerging middle class because high birth, the traditional passport to recognition as a gentleman, could be side stepped at least in theory (Platz 152). This new opportunity created a split between the traditional upper classes and the newly established English bourgeoisie. Dickens recognized the paradoxical aspiration toward the position of an idle gentleman through labor. Obtaining the appearance of a gentleman became more important than the means by which the facade is constructed. Platz writes, Dickens Great Expectations can be interpreted as an attempt to dismantle both the legitimacy and symbolic authority of the gentleman (162). Pip deceives himself by accepting the old ... Day labor used to be geared more towards American citizens looking for temporary jobs, but has now taken a new turn in order to fit the necessities of illegal workers. Day labor is defined as a practice of searching for work in open air, informal markets such as street corners or in formal temp agencies ( Work, 307). Under this type of labor, the undocumented immigrant is considered an independent contractor or a temporary domestic worker, and therefore employers are not obliged to ask for work authorization ( Work, 325). Day labor is extremely beneficial to aliens in that it allows immigrants to enter the work force without being required to have legal immigration status. There are two types of day labor industries: informal and formal. Informal day labor consists mostly of men gathering on street corners or parking lots to solicit work. It is considered informal because it is in no way regulated. The men are often picked up by passing cars and hired for the day on terms worked out between the employer and the laborer. By contrast, the formal day labor industry is connected to for profit temp agencies. These agencies place workers in specific manual jobs and take a percentage of the workers ...
