Breast cancer has no obvious symptoms at all until tumors are formed. Just as no two people are
exactly alike no two breast cancers are exactly the same either. Webmd.com (2013) explains,
when a tumor develops signs of early stages of breast cancer includes: * A lump in the breast or
underarm * Swelling in the armpit * Pain or tenderness in the breast * A noticeable flattening or
indentation on the breast * Any change in the size, contour, texture or temperature of the breast
* Marble like area under the skin B) Cancer.org (2012) explains the different types of testing and

Essay about Production Report on Thriller Film
Production Report on Thriller Film
For my production unit, I chose Brief 1: Thriller Film. This is due to my interest in them and the
confidence I have in producing my own, which I found from GCSE television advertising work and
in my ability to deconstruct existing films.
In order to fulfil my brief successfully, I had to perform several areas of research, which will
make the product look like products in real life and show that I know and can use the appropriate
codes and conventions. I also watched a non Hollywood film, the French film La Haine .
Comparing the two different sorts of films, emphasised the codes and conventions that I needed to
use for my classic Hollywood film. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was done by putting key objects or people in the vanishing point and a lot of use of doors to
show the many possibilities.
Another method of research was to find an audience s opinion, by creating and distributing a
questionnaire. The questions were based on thriller film viewing and possibilities for a new thriller
film. I asked ten people to fill it in and collated the results in order to find out what film viewers
want from a film. I found out that people enjoy thriller films because they are very different to other
film genres and they enjoy the suspense, that psychological thriller films are popular, that
completely original narratives are preferred, which are realistic. That a fast editing pace and
limited action and violence is important in a thriller film. A film on child abduction, as this is a
particularly topical subject in the news at the moment, with a male and female hero/ine team
would be popular. This means that my idea for the narrative of the film would be popular if it was
made and released and that the film would have lots of suspense but little action or violence.
This gives me a firm idea of what my film must contain in order to fulfil the genre and be popular.

Essay on Utopia
The Constitution of the United States as a Utopian Proposal
Few people would take issue with the statement that America faces monumental challenges both to
its own well being as well as to its self imposed duty to become a more perfect union . Over the
years, many speakers, authors, and dreamers have used the dirty facts of this nation s (and its
predecessors ) seemingly unrepentant capitalism, paternalism, belligerence, and tendency toward
cultural assimilation to declare the entire enterprise bankrupt and to focus, not on where, exactly,
the USA went wrong, but instead on what the truly ideal civilization would look like. They have
created, in speech or on paper, entire realms of happiness and harmony, free of injustice,... Show

(Brunner pp. 823 833) There exists no easy solution to any one of these or countless other problems
with which this nation must cope.
Additionally, all of the above comes coupled with the moral criticisms that have been leveled at the
American way of running its business, or, more precisely, the way business has been allowed a
nearly free reign in running America. The hands off policies of capitalism, many argue, are solely
responsible for the fact that that a small minority of the population currently enjoys a greater share
of the national wealth than that of some three quarters of the nation combined. The reaction of
many writers and speakers to the barrage of hurdles faced by the American way of life has been to,
in effect, flush the entire experiment.
Instead of devising real world solutions to our real world problems, a large number of thinkers
and learned individuals have chosen to react to the failings of America and other nations which
share its basic ideals by creating, either as intentions or as realities, alternate versions of society
which are almost always rooted in the belief that these are, in some way, perfect places, or utopias.
Societies such as the one described in Edward Bellamy s Looking Backward: 2000 to 1887, where
there is no money, no private ownership, perfectly equal distribution of resources, and, supposedly

Concealed Weapons in the United States
In the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights the founding fathers of America gave us the
right to bear arms for self defense. Although everyone in America has the right to own a firearm,
you must have a concealed carry permit in order to bring a hidden handgun into a public area.
Through people carrying concealed handguns we can reduce violent crimes. Each state gets to
determine if they will allow concealed weapons. If the state does permit concealed carry then
people have to go through a long process before they can receive their concealed weapons permit.
A person must first fill out the application, then State police post the names to a private website
for local law enforcement agencies to review and object to if police feel there... Show more content

Most feel safer knowing that they would be able to protect themselves and others if needed. For
most people they only plan to carry in certain conditions. Like if they are going somewhere they
don t know or aren t comfortable with (Litchfield). Others want to own a gun in case of a
shooting or other public disaster. Calling 911 can get help on their way quickly. However even a
few minutes can be the difference between life and death. It takes a few minutes for police to
arrive at a crime but if someone already there has a concealed handgun they could end the
violence much faster. Quick responses not only limit the number of casualties, but reduce the
attention these killers garner from committing their crimes. We can t get rid of gun free zones
soon enough (Lott). Some worry that by giving out these permits it makes it legal for bad
people to bring handguns into public places where they could harm numerous others. That just
doesn t make sense. If a person plans to break the law by harming others then why would they
work so hard to obtain a permit so they can legally have the gun with them. One of the most
common reasons people give for wanting to get rid of guns is public shootings, particularly school
shootings (Quinn). It truly is tragic that people would take a weapon into an area to shoot innocent
bystanders for no reason. However getting rid of guns is not the solution. Even if we get rid of
guns those who

Enjambment And Imagery In Langston Hughes s Mother To Son
The poem Mother to Son written by Langston Hughes, reflects on the lessons that a Black mother
was obligated to teach their child about in the early 19th century. The poem is to be read in the
second person perspective, as it employs enjambment, diction, and imagery to put emphasis on the
expectations and hardships Black children adapt to in order to ensure their well being as a person
of color. Hughes purposefully creates this poem as if his mother created it for him to reveal the
unfair conversations and lessons children like the author have to understand if they want to reach
their goals; furthermore, Hughes achieves this with his soulful use of diction, enjambment, and
imagery within the poem. The author s poem consists of the particular use of diction known as
African AmericanVernacular English, which is a dialect similar to American English. The diction
portrayed in the poem symbolizes the profound and empowering words spoken when a mother
inspires her child to overcome their battles, more specifically in this poem to never turn [their]
back.. [to never] set down on the steps (14 15). In the beginning of Mother to Son, the narrator
figuratively describes how life wasn t a crystal stair[case] for them, but in fact, stairs that had had
tacks...splinters..boards torn up... places with no carpet...bare (2 7). Repeatedly describing the
coarse stairwaywith adjectives that are associated with ideas of pain or struggle intentionally
exposes the reader to the misery Black peoplehad to endure. Additionally, the narrator continues to
apply this throughout the poem to elaborate on the fact that this struggle is still endured, and these
lessons are still taught. Towards the end of the poem, additional diction of African American
Vernacular English continually demonstrates that mother had kept climbing that same stairwell
from the beginning: [they ve] been a climbin on/ And reachin landin s/ And turnin corners/ And
sometimes goin in the dark/ Where there ain t been no light (9 13). The actions described in this
quote build off the adjectives the author employed earlier; however, instead of displaying struggle,
these actions encourage motivation and consistency. The flow of words using diction also

question I didn t know exactly what to say. None of those things interest me at all. I was always

do well in school in order to have a better future. Until this day they still tell me this. In harvest of
empire by Juan Gonzalez it says between 1961 and 1986 more than 400,00 people legally
immigrated to the United Statesfrom the Dominican Republic and another 44,000 moved to My
parents are from the Dominican Republic and they came to the United States in the late 80 s in

back in his hometown Consuelo, San Pedro de Macoris. He is known for his baseball skills and
grew up with baseball player Sammy Sosa. Although I don t much about my father, I could tell
you he never made it into major league baseball. He wanted to make sure he was always there
for his kids. I don t see my father that often anymore as I used to when I was a kid. My mother

Printing Press Vs Steam Engine
The printing press and steam engine have had major impacts on our society. Steam engines use
hot steam from boiling water to drive a piston back and forth. The movement of the piston is then
used to power a machine or turn a wheel. The printing press is a mechanical device for producing
many copies of a text on paper. Both of these inventions have had amazing impacts on our society.
The steam engines were invented by Thomas Savery. The steam enginehas helped to power the
Industrial Revolution. Before steam power, most factories and mills were powered by water, wind,
horse, or man. Water was a good source of power, but factories had to be located near a river. Both
water and wind power could be unreliable as sometimes rivers could dry up during a drought or
freeze during the winter and wind didn t always blow. Steam power allowed for factories to be
located anywhere. It also provided reliable power and could be used... Show more content on

The printing press is important because it makes the mass production of printed materials
possible. For thousands of years prior to the invention of the printing press, all works in the
history of human writing could only be copied by hand or by inefficient forms of block printing,
time consuming and laborious processes that commanded high fees. The printing press
dramatically reduced the time and expense of copying works and paved the way for the
democratization of knowledge. These two recent inventions have had many impacts in our lives
today. Without the steam engines we would not have as many factories. This could result in less
production for our basic necessities. The printing press is also very important because without it
everyone would have to copy things with hand. This process could discourage many authors and
writers and make it difficult for their audience to sometimes read their works. This advancement s

Lianyungang China Book Report
Life and times working in Lianyungang China
Many Americans are currently working in China, about 70,000 in mainland China alone. Most
are in the medical or education field and are in the larger, more Westernized cities such as
Beijing or Shanghai. My story is a little different. Mine is one of a FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced
Plastics) inspector for FSE (Fiberglass Structural Engineering). The simplest way to explain to
most people not in the industry is to refer to it simply as Fiberglass Inspector (and NO not the pick
stuff in your attic). I was working at a facility located in Lianyungang which is located in the
Jiangsu province of Eastern China. Located about halfway between Beijing and Shanghai.
Lianyungang is mostly an industrial city. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I started researching what the local attractions were. I read about a famous story that was written
by Mr. Wu Cheng en in Ming Dynasty, Journey to the West, which is originated in Lianyungang.
Part of this story takes place on Huanguo mountain. Huanguo mountain was located not very far
from where I was staying. As it appears in the book it is a mountain inhabited by demons and
monkeys. And while there are a few monkeys to be found along the way, demons were
(thankfully) notable in their absence. In my journey to the top of the mountain I found many
interesting things to see. There were temples, homes, and wonderful scenery. Once I reached the
top of the mountain there was a statue. The best interpretation I got was that it was equal to
what we would refer to as an angel. It had many ribbons tied to it. The ribbons are tied to the
symbol by a person asking for good fortune. There was also a centralized monument that many
young people were stilling under playing some sort of card game. Off to the side there was a
marker that marked the very top of the mountain. As I was admiring the marker I felt a tap on
my shoulder. It was a young girl, probably around 18 or 19. She was with a couple friends. She
asked, in broken English if she and her friends may take a picture with me. I said of course you
can. It was then that I realized that not only was I admiring all the attractions, I became one.
Once I was done with the picture session I found an older gentleman that had a monkey. As I
approached him he pointed at my cell phone and was giving me a take a picture gesture. He
proceeded to place the monkey on my hand a take a picture. I tipped him went on my way. This

internet service providers cannot change the quality of your connection based on what site you are

also made visible fundamental differences in each sides beliefs. In this paper, I compare two
possible explanations of this divide and stress how important this decision is not only to the future
of the internetbut to the future of company customer relations.
Those who support Net Neutrality view it as the last line of defense against ISP takeover. They...

Here, they attempt to draw a comparison between data stream across the internet and Oreos you

argument might sway their views when in reality the comparison drawn here makes no sense.
The argument in short is this; if you want more Oreos you pay more, therefore if you want more
data you pay more. Sounds somewhat convincing but the problem is that data is infinite, when
you are stream data from an ISP, you are not hurting their reservoirs of data as they don t exist.
They only thing that does exist is the amount of data you can receive per second which is already
charged by most ISPs and is known as bandwidth. This massive ignorance in the subject can lead

Gender Roles In A Midsummer Night s Dream
All throughout history, males have always been the dominant gender. Men never let the females
have certain rights and would consider the women to be objects or possessions. This sexism can
be seen all around society and has established one of the most famous works of literature, A
Midsummer Night s Dream. In A Midsummer Night s Dream, Shakespeare uses the contradicting
settings of the woods and Athens to show how women try and break out of the role society has
forced them to play. During the Elizabethan Era, the society was patriarchal. The men were
considered to be the leaders while the females were considered the inferior sex. The males were
the breadwinners of the family and the females were designed to be the housewives. The women

Island Made Thesis
How was the Island Made
By:Jonah Jacksteit
Thesis Statement This report will talk about how the marooned island got made.
An island 2000 km south of Hawai i. The island is at 1В°52 23.40 N and 157В°19 6.69 W and
spans 717 square kilometers of land. On this land there were volcanoes but after some time they
got eroded away. In this report I will prove that there was a volcano on the island and I will do so
by stating how the plants, climate, location and animals prove that there was a volcano.
Plants There are very few native plants on the island. The only plants that are on the island are
breadfruit trees, pandanus trees, pawpaw trees, coconut trees, babai(a type of taro root), mosses
and mangrove trees. There are also yams lemons, and sugarcane as non tree plants. These seeds
for plants probably got transported to the island by birds except for the coconuts because there
aren t any land borders to any other island. Because there are no land boarders it gives us some
evidence that the island got made by a volcano.

Drifters Poem Analysis
Dawe in his poem Drifters presents the inevitable nature of change, particularly change that is
unwanted. Moreover, Dawe manifests the diverse responses individuals have when encountering
change in their lives and the transformative impact of change. These prominent themes are
manipulated through the motif of travelling, flashbacks and symbolism.
Individuals are subjected to change in their spontaneous lives. Immediately the title drifters
foreshadows the spontaneous lifestyle of the personas that will stimulate change. The sarcastic tone

Dawe presents these diverse responses through the juxtaposition of the children s age. The oldest
girl was close to tears and the youngest girl was beaming . Clearly, age differentiation manipulates
individuals responses to change. The fact the youngest girl , who could cope with change easier is
suggested by her minimal encounters with change; she is not used to her transient lifestyle.
Contrastingly, the oldest girl , who is already used to change, is reluctant and afraid to experience
more change that is unwanted.
Change will stimulate growth among individuals. The motif of time in, first of the season ,
demonstrates change will gradually occur with time. Clearly, the family s lives have been
transformed through their transient lifestyle when moving houses. The morbid tone, she won t
even ask why they re leaving this time , shows the family has conformed and transformed from
change. Indeed, progression from an excited to a miserable tone stresses an individual s perceptions
on change will alter throughout life experiences. Further, the kinaesthetic imagery, the loaded ute
bumps down the drive , emphasises the family s transformation throughout change. Here, the
metaphorical bumps is symbolic of the barriers individuals experience with change, in order to
grow.
Bruce Dawe s Drifters , presents universal concerns on the inevitability of change. In particular,
Dawe explores the growth

Relational Leadership Model Essay
As an ethical and successful leader I believe that one must remember is that you should always
considers your followers over yourself. Without them, you are not able to get anything done. You
are best able to gage if your being a successful leader if others are willing to follow you to
accomplish positive change. If you are always considering others then it is easy to maintain an
ethical approach because you make yourself more aware of what could be viewed as unethical
within not only your contextual view but also others who think differently then you. The Relational
LeadershipModel is useful to build the mindset for thinking about others if you focus on the
ethical and empowering side of the model (Komives, S. R., Lucas, N., McMahon, T. R, 2013). The
way your treat those around you makes an important statement to your leadership style. Over all we
do see men and woman in the field of museumwork but the way they are treated is vastly different.
Male curators will be involved in a more science and research field while women will usually fill
the maintenance and care role. These two positions area not equally respected though they both use
the title of curator. To maintain a collection is admirable but why collect if no information is
obtained. So the woman in these positions are just a stepping stone for a researcher to come in
and reap the rewards of intellectual discovery. The difficulties to practicing this form of leadership

Power And Politics Organization Theory
Power and Politics Organization Theory Power and politics have always been around but seldom
openly discussed. Power is learned at an early age through family and schools. Ordinary people
such as scholars hesitate to talk about power. It is often equated with force brutality, unethical
behavior, manipulation, connivance, and subjugation. Power and Politics organization theory was
derived from the modern structural organization in the 1970 s to its present today. In the modern
structural, organizational economics, and systems/environment theories of organization,
organizations are assumed to be rational institutions with its primary purpose is to accomplish
established goals. People in formal authority set goals. The question is how best is it to design
and manage organizations in achieving its purpose effectively and efficiently? Politics plays an
increasing role as individuals merge into the work force. Power, politics and influence are
essential and permanent fact of organizational life (Shafritz, Ott, Jang, 2011). Jeffery Pfeffer
Understanding the Role of Power in Decision Making Pfeffer explores the advantages and
limitations of power. Pfeffer states that if power is a force, a store of potential influence through
which events can be affected, politics involves those activities or behaviors through which power
is developed and used in organizational settings. Power is a property of the system at rest; politics
is the study of power in action (Shafritz, Ott,

Concept Of Ecosystem Services And Practice Of Conservation
GG3057
What does the concept of ecosystem services add to the theory and practice of conservation?
If we are managing ecosystems, then in theory, we need to also be managing people, essentially
speaking, if we develop management tools that are effective and equitable and also meet the needs
of people, then we really need to understand how people use and interact with their environments,
how they value and prioritise those interactions and why. So the Millennium Ecosystems
Assessment (2005) defines ecosystem services as the benefits people obtain from ecosystems
themselves. These are categorised into three separate categories: Provisioning, these are the sort of

The chart above focuses on the three categories: provision, regulating and cultural services.
Essentially speaking, 15 out of the 24 ecosystem services assessed belong in the degraded
category, most of them in the regulating category, with the second most in the provisioning. When
looking towards the mixed results category, it means they have increased in some part of the world
and decreased in others, therefore mixed. Finally, the last four services were enhanced. Note that
three of these are actually services that have a value in the marketplace. Often our interventions in
ecosystems are about optimising or maximising those services with value in the marketplace, but
sometimes at the expense of these other services. So when focusing on the ecosystem services, we
must ask ourselves, how can their value be incorporated in decisions?
Human well being is dependent upon a functioning and productive natural environment, so this puts
human well being at the core of sustainability debates. The policy implications of this concept are
based on the assumption that: Behaviour can be understood as the pursuit of well being. So if we
can demonstrate how people s well being are dependent on functioning and productive ecosystems,
then behaviour should change to protect those ecosystems. But well being itself is a complex
concept. McGregor (2007) defines well being as A

employee s manager has returned him to his previous work status and rate of pay, but has denied

employee must also have worked a minimum of 1,250 hours during that same 12 month period as
noted in the Wage and Hours Division Employer s Guide to the Family and Medical Care Act.
Additionally, the US Department of Labor notes that an employer is considered covered when
they have 50 or more employees whom work at sites within 75 miles of each other for 20 or more

Influential People in the World
In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, one of the main themes is good versus evil. When
stranded on a deserted island, the group of boys starts out civilized. However, by the end, the
loss of innocence has turned most of them savage. Humans are essentially good. Jack is both
good and evil in the book. I agree with Ralph, we ve got to have rules and obey them. After all,
we re not savages (Golding 42). In the beginning, even Jack wanted a good society with rules
and a leader. They all agreed to vote for a chief and have a civilization. Ralph says, This is our
island. It s a good island. Until the grown ups come to fetch us we ll have fun (35). Jack thinks
about the others and their well being. Piggy says, How can you expect to be rescued if you don t
put first things first and act proper? (45). Jack agrees with Piggy about the importance of rescuing
them all off the island. He helps explain to the others that they need to listen to Ralph if they want
to survive on the island. Even though in the end, Jack becomes the enemy, the beginning shows that
he is good. However, without rules and adults to enforce them, he becomes a dictator. Simon,
however, is truly good. Then, amid the roar of bees, in the afternoon sunlight, Simon found for the
littluns the fruit they could not reach (56). Simon, the Christ like figure, represents the good in the
book. Even when he has been working all day on the shelters, he helps the littluns retrieve fruit. He

Abstract
Divorce is a topic of much debate in the United States. Till death do us apart , is the famous vow

years we have seen an increase in divorce rates. If you look back to a few decades ago, divorce

modern society in recent years. Many can argue that the negative consequences outweigh the
benefits of divorce for those involved, especially the children that become victims. Majority can
agree that due to the serious matter, divorce should not be taken lightly. Living in the United States
allows people the freedom to make choices that are not always accepted well by society in other
countries. Divorce can be a long and painful process for everyone involved, that is left with
emotional and social consequences that take place throughout adulthood.
The Impact of Divorce On Children
From the moment children are brought into this world there exists a relationship and a bond that
most parents hope is never broken. This is also true for the children, who grow up looking to their
mother and father as their role models. Children s lives are influenced greatly by what they see and
learn from their parents at home.

How Does Golding Present Jack s Madness In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies captures countless numbers of William Golding s ideas of madness. This book
presents that humans can trace the faults in society back to the defects in human nature . Jack, a
character met soon after the start of the book, shows apparent madness from the very beginning.
The novel shows that the madness of all the boys is deemed reasonable. Jack could only be
described as a power craving, satanic, young boy. After Ralph, the leader of the group,
establishes what the boys priorities are, Jack appoints himself the leader of hunting. Once the
boys finally attain a kill, Jack instigates a chant, kill the pig, cut her throat, spill the blood . The
chant presents that the boys are slowly becoming excessively more primitive the longer they are
stranded on the island. The boys decent into savagery mimics the exact war torn world they had
come from. Along the same lines as the war, there is a parallel on the island and the war torn
country. Jack wants to be dictator of the entire island, but the democracy of the boys vote Ralph as
their leader. In their home country, Hitler is also attempting to attain his goal by becoming dictator
of Germany through the madness of World War II. Golding wants the reader to comprehend that the
society the boys have created themselves is not so different from the... Show more content on

is the worst pig he could murder. By Jack killing the sow, all hopes of reproduction are

prevented the boys from being rescued. Golding presents Jack as the pleasure principle because it
brings forth that Jack s delusional behavior will be one of the many downfalls of the island. Jack
insists on hunting the female sows, turning the whole island against Ralph, and helping kill Piggy

The Impact Of Religious Culture In Giovanni Boccaccio s...
Religious culture in Italy grew and developed in several ways over its span of existence. It was
also a time of recording information and countless people wrote during this time about the
different aspects of their country. Religion was an important part of the people s daily life, seeing
that it determined their afterlife. There are several stories and beliefs available about this time
period that are used for current references on how exactly the religious culture worked. In
particular, Giovanni Boccaccios Decameron, which he wrote as a series of short stories about the
religious culture during the 1350 s, which was not long after the Black Death. His series of fictional
short stories gave people a different side of the story and how people truly regarded religionduring
this time. Currently, people who read these excerpts can compose inferences on how religious
culture was back then and it gives a different thought process, seeing that while it is not
particularly true, it shows a different side of the religious culture. Specifically, the story he tells us
in this excerpt shows us a great deal about the religious culture of Italy during that time and how
seriously they regarded God and his forgiveness, so much that one man lived a horrid life and still
managed to gain forgiveness of the church and be buried there. Religious culture over the years has
changed in hundreds of ways, with copious different aspects to deal with and different statements

Humor In Joseph Heller s Catch-22
Similarly, Heller s use of humor to alter a reader s emotions drastically, distracts readers from his
original point. While reading Catch 22 one goes through a wide spectrum of emotions, and those
emotions can change in a matter of seconds. One example of this is when Nately s whore finds
out about Nately s death. Her angry reaction is understandable, but Heller stretches this out for
quite a while. The grieving woman is transformed through the dark humor that Heller uses so
liberally, her character is revised into a maniac, set on killing Yossarian. It is this type of nonsense
that is not needed in order for Heller to make his point. The reader understands Heller s point
about grieving after he spends seven consecutive pages describing Nately s... Show more content on

This is perhaps his most successful use of dark humor. The maid in the lime colored panties and
her relationship with Yossarian is an example of the point Heller is trying to make. As John
Muste noted, Love is reduced to lustful sexual encounters in which women are barely human
(Muste). Heller s statement about love is truly well, and his use of dark humor is quite good.
Talking about how Yossarian would sleep with anyone, and the light hearted attitude he used
when Aarfy raped the girl. His use of humor does an exceptional job of poking fun at the state of
love. Although he does a better job in this category, winning a battle is not the same as winning a
war. Heller is successful in making his point about love but fails elsewhere within the same topic
by over using dark humor. Heller s statement about love, is lost in the web of dark jokes that
Heller is constantly weaving. Instead of coming across as a powerful statement, Heller s erotic
chapters are accepted as just that. Although his purpose is understood, Catch 22 is not a
commentary on love, it is a commentary on war. In order to be more successful, Heller should
have focused on making his main point clear. This failure is to focus on the main idea and instead
look at love so deeply is perhaps why some people consider his use of erotic material to prop up his

Compare And Contrast Gigantism And Acromegaly
Throughout history Gigantism and Acromegaly has shown in different nations, tribes, and races.
Even though gigantism and acromegaly are both very rare and occurs in approximately 50 out
of every 1 million people, both of these conditions are hard for parents to detect when in early
ages because growth plates start to open up and children begin to start their growth phase.
Gigantism and Acromegaly is a very interesting topic, because this disease causes children/people
to grow to be abnormal sizes. These abnormal sizes are usually two standard deviations above
normal height. Some adults with Gigantism can reach up to 7 feet or taller within their lifespans.
Acromegaly is very similar to gigantism, but it involves the limbs of the body such as... Show more

Many doctors and physicians have been able to bring patients levels of these diseases to and
under control level and sometimes even cure it. Many patients who find out they have the
diseases either decide they want to get the benign tumor removed or just got through radiation
therapy. Usually Surgery for removal of the tumor is the first choice for a patient rather than
going through radiation therapy. The rate of cure for the surgical process depends on the size of
the tumor, whether or not if it spread outside the pituitary gland, and the level of growth hormones
before surgery. In patients with small tumors confined to the pituitary and exhibiting only
moderately high HGH levels, the cure rate can be as high as 80 90%. In patients with larger
tumors, especially those extending out of the pituitary, cure rates with surgery can be reduced to
40 60%. (Source 2) Radiation is usually the second option because removal by surgery usually
works well. This way of treatment can reduce the size of the pituitary tumor and decreasing the
growth hormone levels. However, this decrease is often very slow, and it can take over ten years
for the HGH levels to drop to normal. Treatment with radiation can also have significant side
effects, including damage to the pituitary gland itself, visual loss, and brain damage. Some studies
have also suggested that treatment with

birthmark is in the shape of a tiny hand on the cheek of her face, which symbolizes humanity in the
story. If it wasn t for the birthmark, Aylmer believes his wife would be perfect, although no one is

How Did The U.s. Expand Westward And What Was Its Impact...
PURPOSE 1
Question: How did the U.S. expand westward and what was its impact on Native Americans?
Answer: The United States began expanding westward during the 1800s. During the early 1800s,
America turned its attention towards the exploration and settlement of its Western territory. The
amount of land had been greatly increased by the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, which almost
doubled the size of the nation. Later on, the size of the United States increased yet again with the
Mexican Cession and the Gadsden Purchase. From these, the United States gained California,
Nevada, Utah, Texas, and parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. Settlers swept
westward, encouraged by the federal government. The government created the Homestead Act,
which offered 160 acres of cheap land in the West under the condition that the settlers had to work
the land for 5 years. As the Western territories became more and more developed, Native Americans
and their culture were slowly destroyed through laws such as the Indian Removal Act and the
Dawes Act. Native Americans were forced onto small reservations and their children were then
forcibly assimilated into white American culture in order to make room for the white settlers.
PURPOSE 2
Question: Why did nations desire to expand and gain power through imperialism?

countries. Some people felt that America should remain isolationist, avoiding

Free from the offending denim, Tom pushed down his boxers, revealing his magnificent erection.
Now liberated, it lay flat against his belly, the bubble of pre cum glistening on the head begging

pressing his tongue against the underside of the hard shaft, he trailed a wet path along his lover s

With his mind made up, he twisted his body sideways, and opening his bedside drawer, he
rummaged around until he found a tube of lubrication and a packaged condom. Although nervous,
he felt comfortable with his decision, and closing his fist around the items, he shut the bureau
drawer. Trust blazed from his dark orbs as he offered them to Booker with a trembling hand. Here.
A myriad of emotions played over Booker s face; surprise, disbelief, uncertainty, admiration, until
finally, his expression relaxed into one of pure love. With an unsteady hand, he took the proffered
supplies and placed them on the mattress. As he caught Tom s eye, his heart dipped, and he
dropped to his hands so he could plant a tender kiss on his lover s lips. Are you sure, baby, he
breathed against the plump, inviting flesh. I don t want to pressure you.
With a shy smile, Tom whispered his answer. I m sure.
Heat flared in the pit of Booker s stomach, and sitting up, he unscrewed the cap of the small tube,
and liberally coated his fingers in the oily substance, his eyes never leaving Tom s intense gaze.

The European Union Promote Unity And Equality Amongst The...
The European Union aims to promote unity and equality amongst the fellow member states. In
order to provide this sense of concord the European Union allows free movement of citizens apart
of the union. The access to all members states solidifies a bond of the union but this free
movement also allows for negative issues to arise. Due to the free movement amongst the EU
many people are easily trafficked throughout the countries. The concept of this free movement is
great for the people, but also many people are suffering from a violation of their human rights. The
EU aims to continue to support free movement of their people, but they must focus on ways to
prevent human trafficking from occurring throughout the member states. Free movement of EU
citizens was a major priority to pursue with the start of this union. The idea of identifying a status
for individuals benefiting from the process of European integration and its correlative label of
citizen of the Community or of the Union goes back to the early 1970s (Condinanzi, Lang,
Nascimbene, 1). The Paris Summit was the initiation of the idea of unifying individuals to be
labeled as citizens of the Union. Later, in 1992 the idea was finally put into effect with the
Maastricht Treaty. This treaty help to progress the integration of Europeans and led to the formal
recognition of the notion of European citizenship. Obtaining citizenship in the EU is based on the

Taking a Look at Wikileaks
Wikileaks, cofounded in 2006 by editor in chief Julian Assange, is a site designed to announce
and publicize sensitive information. The goal of Wikileaks is to provide protection for
journalists, citizens, and anyone who might need to be protected from the free based or sensitive
information they upload to the site. Wikileaks is protected by a network of software, anonymous
postal drops, and lawyers, operating on a policy of secrecy to keep all of its posters safe from
possible reprisals.
I believe Wikileaks is in the right, as it allows its users to expose sensitive information and
secrets that citizens need to know about. Governments have been criticizing some of the content
posted, however, there is little legally that they can do. Wikileaks is essentially another branch or
avenue of the public press, and there is no official secrets act to stop information from being
posted. There are people doing pre publication reviews of articles posted; people who have a vested
interest in ensuring the accuracy of the material.
In recent years, Wikileaks has acquired mixed public reception, receiving numerous awards and

Related Samples Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed no significant difference between plasma
percentages for Ice vest and control pre test results. Related Samples Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test
showed no significant difference between plasma percentages for ice vest and control post test
results (p 0.344). Discussion The significances from figures 1 5 would suggest that the Ice vests
caused no significant physiological changes (p 0.05). However these results are inconclusive as
the results are not representative of the male population with only 6 participants and no repeats
which makes it statistically unreliable and non representative. Although Figure 1 shows no
significant difference between control and ice vest it is apparent that there is a lower mean HR
for the ice vest testing in the first 8 minutes of the experiment. This can be explained by Figure 2
which shows the reduction in Ts for ice vest compared to the control during the first 5 minutes of
the experiment. This reduction in Ts causes a reduction in the need for blood flow to the skin
which directly causes an increase in available blood for central circulation (Marino, 2002). The
vasoconstriction as a result of the cold stimuli of the jacket would naturally increase the stroke
volume (SV) and consequently cause a reduction in HR (Marino, 2002). Increased muscle blood
flow could improve performance potentially. Figure 1 results showed that the ice vest tests
beginning and end HR difference was 69.33 bpm

Introduction
The Sydney Metro Northwest or North West Rail Link falls under the issue of Land and Water
Management. The aim of this Research Action Plan (RAP) is to investigate the implications of the
North West Rail Link on the residents of the Hills District by focusing on 3 main aspects: their
thoughts on this project, the advantages as well as disadvantages for them.

For my first primary source I conducted a survey using Survey Monkey (online survey tool) asking

It would allow residents to easily cross the road without having to worry about the cars and buses
that are constantly zooming along the road. Until the plans are approved residents are stuck
running across the road, illegally jaywalking in a break of traffic.
The map of Norwest Station shows its proximity to the Business Park, Marketown and Hillsong
and for the residents especially whilst it is still being built they are at a disadvantage due to the
traffic congestion, noise, pollution, unsafe and unattractive area. Once complete these problems
should be solved but the station will bring about more people to the already bustling Business Park.
Cherrybrook Station s proximity to residential areas has given residents of Cherrybrook much grief.
Houses have been demolished to make way for the station and for those whose houses remain the
construction and the proximity to the station are bothersome despite the station being a good

The Brazilian Federal Data Processing Services
The Brazilian Federal Data Processing Services is experience at least two types of the ethical
problem. First, the NSA is acting contrary to international standards relations. It is ethically wrong
for the government agency to spy on another government s data or information. Although American
security agencies have been accused of spying on the security information of other countries, their
actions are illegal and will create a poor inter country relationship (Constantin, 2014). From this
case, even the Brazilian president, Rousseff, protested to NSA activities and has predicted a poor
online relation with the U.S. The second element describing a business ethical problem in this case
is the fact that the software handling the government... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This agency should not enter another country s databases just because they are capable of doing
so. America is good in developing regulations for local and international relations but very poor in
practicing. For example, private information sharing within the government agencies is regulated
by privacy rules but this happens in theory while practically these agencies access and share private
information illegally. NSA behavior has even caused some negative relationship between Braziland
American to the extent that Brazil is worried about the internet legislations the U.S. might impose
that will affect its citizen s internet access from U.S. websites.
Brazil hired the services of the Internet Security Systems, Inc (ISS) to develop its Federal Enterprise

use. With similar systems but located in different countries, America could have an advantage to
Brazil because it is using the same system it knows better (PR Newswire, 2004). ISS could have

surface of a book and dig deeper than the words the author has written in the novel. However, to

time period in which the novel was written. Anthony Burgess, author of A Clockwork Orange,

What else are you going to do? Wait for some man to come along and whisk you off to suburban
marital bliss? You might as well ask for the moon by noon. Consider the facts. You made it this
far on your own, earning a living and paying the bills all by yourself. You even managed to
invest enough money to slap down the minimum five per cent and start calling yourself a
homeowner. After all, you re faced with another 40 plus years knock on wood so it s time to put
down some roots. But what happens after you move into your new dream house? Suddenly, you
re dealing with a new set of monthly expenses. Throw out the budget that carried you through the
last few years; it s time to build a new one from scratch. Once you have a new budget, start saving
like you plan to buy a second house in a few years. You re going to need all that extra cash for
things for which no budget can truly prepare you, such as repairs, renovations, and interior design
necessarily in that order. Repairs come first because you need to fix whatever is broken. Did you
get a great deal on a handyman s dream? Did you stop to consider whether or not you re handy?
Also, don t forget that appliances, heaters, furnaces, and oil tanks have a habit of breaking down at
the least convenient times, schedules and finances notwithstanding. Before you even think about
redecorating your new house, take a hard look at the layout.

The Road to Becoming a Teacher
Shayne McCormick

Senior Project Research Paper
January 8, 2002
The Road to Becoming a Teacher
Teachers bear the heavy responsibility of molding the minds of our nation s most precious
resource, its children. The road to becoming a teacher is a long one, involving post high school
education, people skills, and a desire to change lives. These traits, when accompanied by experience
and good techniques, form the foundation for an effective, life altering educator. Before anything
else, teachers must have a desire to impact the lives of their students (Education). Some teachers
teach because they want to help children learn and grow and would like to make a contribution to
society. Others have an intellectual fascination with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teachers must be ready to deal with an array of students with different needs. Their day usually
begins around 8 a.m. where they face the difficult task of waking up their tired students and getting
them ready to learn. They must find interesting ways of presenting the subjects that students often
find tedious (Princeton). Affective teachers use interactive discussion and hands on learning to help
students understand the material (School Teachers).
A teacher s day does not hardly end when the school bell rings. Active teachers are usually involved
in after school meetings, committees, assisting students, grading homework, assignments, and
projects, and calling parents. These tasks all require a certain amount of personal sacrifice (Kizlik).
There have been many changes in education. Even today, the face of education is being changed
and refined. Classes are becoming more and more less structured with students working in their own
groups. The idea is to prepare students to enter the workforce by teaching them the skills to interact
with others, adapt to new technology, and logically think through problems (School Teachers).
Even with the experience of the teacher training programs mentioned earlier, nothing can fully
prepare a person to become a teacher. According to Dr. Bob Kizlik, Each of the roles [a teacher
plays] requires practice and skills that are often not taught in teacher preparation programs. Not all
who want to be teachers should

The Was A Death Camp Built During Wwii
Treblinka was a death camp built during WWII, its purpose was for the plan called
OPERATION REINHARD . Treblinka was built in the year 1942 and was located in a forest
Northeast of Warsaw. Construction work on Treblinka began at the beginning of April 1942, after
some German SS soldiers came to the village of Poniatowa and inspected the locality. The camp
functioned from June 1941 until July 23rd, 1944. The contractors were the German firms
Schonbrunn from Leipzig, and Schmidt MГјnstermann; which had an office in Warsaw. SS
HauptsturmfГјhrer Richard Thomalla from the SS Bauleitung Zamosc Supervised the
construction work. The workers who primarily built the Death camp were Jews brought by truck
from neighboring villages as well as some Polish prisoners of war. The construction work took 2
weeks and was completed on June 15th, 1942. The SS men and the Ukrainians who supervised
the work on the camp, killed a few dozen people every day. The German who was given command
of the death camp first was the Austrian SS ObersturmfГјhrer, Dr. Irmfried Eberl. Under Command
of Dr. Irmfried Eberl where 30 SS officers and up to 120 Ukrainian soldiers to guard the camp.
Unfortunately for Dr. Irmfried Eberl, he was not in command for too long. He was relieved of
command in August 1942 by Globocnik when Globocnik and Wirth visited the camp because they
caught wind of a chaotic breakdown in the extermination process because Eberl took in too many
new transports and they were more than the camp

Ratification of Constitution Essay
The Constitution has been operative since 1789 after the ratification of nine states (American
Vision and Values, Page 52). Today many question the relevancy of a document 222 years old to
our society. The Founders created a governmental framework, defining three branches and giving
powers to the government and others to the states. It also guarantees the rights of the people. It
took two and one half years for the 13 colonies to ratify the Constitution. This ratification period
was one of great debate and produced a series of essays complied into The Federalist. Authored by
John Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay during the ratification debate in New York, they tried
to get public support for the Constitution. Thus began the first... Show more content on

To further strengthen the rights of the people, The Bill of Rights was ratified on December 15,
1791. With only the first ten amendments, it is no accident that two amendments, 9 and 10,
specifically define the Constitutions purpose to protect rights, given to the government from the
people; and the powers of the government are only those delegated to it by the Constitution on
behalf of the people (Spalding, Page 145). Madison in Federalist No. 10 (Page 131) also supports
the view of the Framers to have great and aggregate interests being referred to the national, the
local and particular to the State legislatures . Madison expounds further in Federalist No. 39 (Page
135) about the constitutional limits of government to certain enumerated objects only, and the
states being delegated the remaining objects . Federalism was created in the Constitution and while
it seems a difficult concept U.S. Attorney General, Edwin Meese s definition is very simply put
institution design was to divide sovereignty between two different levels of political entities, the
nation and the states . (American Vision and Values, Page 62). Moore goes further in support of
originalism with examples of Jefferson, Madison, Crockett, Pierce and Cleveland vetoing or

Violent Video Games Benefits
In 2013, President Obama requested congress to allocate ten million dollars for the research of the
effects violent video games pose towards adolescents. Although many studies exist on the impact of
video games, few have focused on the benefits. News stations are so quick to spread information
on the negative effects that no one has taken into consideration that video games might have
positive effects. I believe that taking a balanced perspective is essential to discovering the truth,
especially with video games. While true that little research has been devoted to the benefits of video
games, it is the opposite for the functions of play. Erikson (1977) thought that children, by

This is especially true with shooter video games, such as Halo 4 and Grand Theft Auto IV. A 2012
study took naive gamers that rarely or never played shooter games, and randomly assigned them to
play either a shooter game or another type of video game. The gamers playing shooter games
showed faster and more accurate attention allocation, high spatial resolution in visual processing,
and enhanced mental rotation abilities. A meta analysis concluded that these spatial skills
improvements are comparable to formal (high school and university level) courses designed to
improve these same skills. This same meta analysis found that these spatial skills trained can be
trained by video games in a relatively short amount of time and last for an extended period of time.
Of course, these skills transfer to other spatial tasks outside of game. Preliminary research has also
shown that these cognitive advantages manifest in neural processing and efficiency. An fMRI study
found that the areas that control attention allocation were less active during a challenging pattern
finding puzzle in gamers than in non gamers, leading the researchers to believe that shooter game
players are more efficient in attention allocation and more effective at filtering out unneeded
information. Cognitive neuroscientists have begun to send requests to video game companies
asking to develope games designed to test hypotheses and the specific mechanisms that provide
different cognitive benefits. In addition to spatial skills, some scholars believe that videogames are
important in developing problem solving skills. This growth is shown between all genres. The
game puzzles range from finding the quickest route from A to B, to using memorization and
analytical skills to learn complicated action sequences. Also, game developers often provide very

Financial Planning Career
For my occupation I chose Financial Planning. I chose financial planning because I like helping
other people and balancing their life. Being a financial planner would also help me balance my life
and have everything in order. A financial plan is a full evaluation of a person s current and future
finances in a given time, and taking this information to plan the future.
Financial planning started in the 1960s, after the World War 2. When World War 2 ended people
started creating careers to help Americans that were struggling succes. On December 12th of 1969
13 men gathered and created this profession. It started getting bigger and bigger over the years, they
started creating new things like the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and many other creative
things.
There were many earlier pioneers in the field of financial planning. One of the first and most
important was Donald Pitti. His role was significant because he worked successfully for the
financial planning association. Long after his role was changed, he would still be admired for his
countless efforts towards this profession.

  • 3. Essay about Production Report on Thriller Film Production Report on Thriller Film For my production unit, I chose Brief 1: Thriller Film. This is due to my interest in them and the confidence I have in producing my own, which I found from GCSE television advertising work and in my ability to deconstruct existing films. In order to fulfil my brief successfully, I had to perform several areas of research, which will make the product look like products in real life and show that I know and can use the appropriate codes and conventions. I also watched a non Hollywood film, the French film La Haine . Comparing the two different sorts of films, emphasised the codes and conventions that I needed to use for my classic Hollywood film. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was done by putting key objects or people in the vanishing point and a lot of use of doors to show the many possibilities. Another method of research was to find an audience s opinion, by creating and distributing a questionnaire. The questions were based on thriller film viewing and possibilities for a new thriller film. I asked ten people to fill it in and collated the results in order to find out what film viewers want from a film. I found out that people enjoy thriller films because they are very different to other film genres and they enjoy the suspense, that psychological thriller films are popular, that completely original narratives are preferred, which are realistic. That a fast editing pace and limited action and violence is important in a thriller film. A film on child abduction, as this is a particularly topical subject in the news at the moment, with a male and female hero/ine team would be popular. This means that my idea for the narrative of the film would be popular if it was made and released and that the film would have lots of suspense but little action or violence. This gives me a firm idea of what my film must contain in order to fulfil the genre and be popular. Planning My film is about a divorced father who has his child taken away from him by its mother. His love for this girl and his despair at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Utopia The Constitution of the United States as a Utopian Proposal Few people would take issue with the statement that America faces monumental challenges both to its own well being as well as to its self imposed duty to become a more perfect union . Over the years, many speakers, authors, and dreamers have used the dirty facts of this nation s (and its predecessors ) seemingly unrepentant capitalism, paternalism, belligerence, and tendency toward cultural assimilation to declare the entire enterprise bankrupt and to focus, not on where, exactly, the USA went wrong, but instead on what the truly ideal civilization would look like. They have created, in speech or on paper, entire realms of happiness and harmony, free of injustice,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Brunner pp. 823 833) There exists no easy solution to any one of these or countless other problems with which this nation must cope. Additionally, all of the above comes coupled with the moral criticisms that have been leveled at the American way of running its business, or, more precisely, the way business has been allowed a nearly free reign in running America. The hands off policies of capitalism, many argue, are solely responsible for the fact that that a small minority of the population currently enjoys a greater share of the national wealth than that of some three quarters of the nation combined. The reaction of many writers and speakers to the barrage of hurdles faced by the American way of life has been to, in effect, flush the entire experiment. Instead of devising real world solutions to our real world problems, a large number of thinkers and learned individuals have chosen to react to the failings of America and other nations which share its basic ideals by creating, either as intentions or as realities, alternate versions of society which are almost always rooted in the belief that these are, in some way, perfect places, or utopias. Societies such as the one described in Edward Bellamy s Looking Backward: 2000 to 1887, where there is no money, no private ownership, perfectly equal distribution of resources, and, supposedly as ... • 5. Concealed Weapons in the United States In the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights the founding fathers of America gave us the right to bear arms for self defense. Although everyone in America has the right to own a firearm, you must have a concealed carry permit in order to bring a hidden handgun into a public area. Through people carrying concealed handguns we can reduce violent crimes. Each state gets to determine if they will allow concealed weapons. If the state does permit concealed carry then people have to go through a long process before they can receive their concealed weapons permit. A person must first fill out the application, then State police post the names to a private website for local law enforcement agencies to review and object to if police feel there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most feel safer knowing that they would be able to protect themselves and others if needed. For most people they only plan to carry in certain conditions. Like if they are going somewhere they don t know or aren t comfortable with (Litchfield). Others want to own a gun in case of a shooting or other public disaster. Calling 911 can get help on their way quickly. However even a few minutes can be the difference between life and death. It takes a few minutes for police to arrive at a crime but if someone already there has a concealed handgun they could end the violence much faster. Quick responses not only limit the number of casualties, but reduce the attention these killers garner from committing their crimes. We can t get rid of gun free zones soon enough (Lott). Some worry that by giving out these permits it makes it legal for bad people to bring handguns into public places where they could harm numerous others. That just doesn t make sense. If a person plans to break the law by harming others then why would they work so hard to obtain a permit so they can legally have the gun with them. One of the most common reasons people give for wanting to get rid of guns is public shootings, particularly school shootings (Quinn). It truly is tragic that people would take a weapon into an area to shoot innocent bystanders for no reason. However getting rid of guns is not the solution. Even if we get rid of guns those who ... • 6. Enjambment And Imagery In Langston Hughes s Mother To Son The poem Mother to Son written by Langston Hughes, reflects on the lessons that a Black mother was obligated to teach their child about in the early 19th century. The poem is to be read in the second person perspective, as it employs enjambment, diction, and imagery to put emphasis on the expectations and hardships Black children adapt to in order to ensure their well being as a person of color. Hughes purposefully creates this poem as if his mother created it for him to reveal the unfair conversations and lessons children like the author have to understand if they want to reach their goals; furthermore, Hughes achieves this with his soulful use of diction, enjambment, and imagery within the poem. The author s poem consists of the particular use of diction known as African AmericanVernacular English, which is a dialect similar to American English. The diction portrayed in the poem symbolizes the profound and empowering words spoken when a mother inspires her child to overcome their battles, more specifically in this poem to never turn [their] back.. [to never] set down on the steps (14 15). In the beginning of Mother to Son, the narrator figuratively describes how life wasn t a crystal stair[case] for them, but in fact, stairs that had had tacks...splinters..boards torn up... places with no carpet...bare (2 7). Repeatedly describing the coarse stairwaywith adjectives that are associated with ideas of pain or struggle intentionally exposes the reader to the misery Black peoplehad to endure. Additionally, the narrator continues to apply this throughout the poem to elaborate on the fact that this struggle is still endured, and these lessons are still taught. Towards the end of the poem, additional diction of African American Vernacular English continually demonstrates that mother had kept climbing that same stairwell from the beginning: [they ve] been a climbin on/ And reachin landin s/ And turnin corners/ And sometimes goin in the dark/ Where there ain t been no light (9 13). The actions described in this quote build off the adjectives the author employed earlier; however, instead of displaying struggle, these actions encourage motivation and consistency. The flow of words using diction also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But when it came for my turn to answer that question I didn t know exactly what to say. None of those things interest me at all. I was always focus on school and getting good grades. My mother and father has always told me you have to do well in school in order to have a better future. Until this day they still tell me this. In harvest of empire by Juan Gonzalez it says between 1961 and 1986 more than 400,00 people legally immigrated to the United Statesfrom the Dominican Republic and another 44,000 moved to My parents are from the Dominican Republic and they came to the United States in the late 80 s in order to have a better future. My father came into this country to play major league baseball, back in his hometown Consuelo, San Pedro de Macoris. He is known for his baseball skills and grew up with baseball player Sammy Sosa. Although I don t much about my father, I could tell you he never made it into major league baseball. He wanted to make sure he was always there for his kids. I don t see my father that often anymore as I used to when I was a kid. My mother came to this country at a young age to get a better education. • 8. Printing Press Vs Steam Engine The printing press and steam engine have had major impacts on our society. Steam engines use hot steam from boiling water to drive a piston back and forth. The movement of the piston is then used to power a machine or turn a wheel. The printing press is a mechanical device for producing many copies of a text on paper. Both of these inventions have had amazing impacts on our society. The steam engines were invented by Thomas Savery. The steam enginehas helped to power the Industrial Revolution. Before steam power, most factories and mills were powered by water, wind, horse, or man. Water was a good source of power, but factories had to be located near a river. Both water and wind power could be unreliable as sometimes rivers could dry up during a drought or freeze during the winter and wind didn t always blow. Steam power allowed for factories to be located anywhere. It also provided reliable power and could be used... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The printing press is important because it makes the mass production of printed materials possible. For thousands of years prior to the invention of the printing press, all works in the history of human writing could only be copied by hand or by inefficient forms of block printing, time consuming and laborious processes that commanded high fees. The printing press dramatically reduced the time and expense of copying works and paved the way for the democratization of knowledge. These two recent inventions have had many impacts in our lives today. Without the steam engines we would not have as many factories. This could result in less production for our basic necessities. The printing press is also very important because without it everyone would have to copy things with hand. This process could discourage many authors and writers and make it difficult for their audience to sometimes read their works. • 9. Lianyungang China Book Report Life and times working in Lianyungang China Many Americans are currently working in China, about 70,000 in mainland China alone. Most are in the medical or education field and are in the larger, more Westernized cities such as Beijing or Shanghai. My story is a little different. Mine is one of a FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics) inspector for FSE (Fiberglass Structural Engineering). The simplest way to explain to most people not in the industry is to refer to it simply as Fiberglass Inspector (and NO not the pick stuff in your attic). I was working at a facility located in Lianyungang which is located in the Jiangsu province of Eastern China. Located about halfway between Beijing and Shanghai. Huanguo mountain was located not very far from where I was staying. As it appears in the book it is a mountain inhabited by demons and monkeys. And while there are a few monkeys to be found along the way, demons were (thankfully) notable in their absence. In my journey to the top of the mountain I found many interesting things to see. There were temples, homes, and wonderful scenery. Once I reached the top of the mountain there was a statue. The best interpretation I got was that it was equal to what we would refer to as an angel. It had many ribbons tied to it. The ribbons are tied to the symbol by a person asking for good fortune. There was also a centralized monument that many young people were stilling under playing some sort of card game. Off to the side there was a marker that marked the very top of the mountain. As I was admiring the marker I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was a young girl, probably around 18 or 19. She was with a couple friends. She asked, in broken English if she and her friends may take a picture with me. I said of course you can. It was then that I realized that not only was I admiring all the attractions, I became one. Once I was done with the picture session I found an older gentleman that had a monkey. As I approached him he pointed at my cell phone and was giving me a take a picture gesture. The island is at 1В°52 23.40 N and 157В°19 6.69 W and spans 717 square kilometers of land. On this land there were volcanoes but after some time they got eroded away. In this report I will prove that there was a volcano on the island and I will do so by stating how the plants, climate, location and animals prove that there was a volcano. Plants There are very few native plants on the island. The only plants that are on the island are breadfruit trees, pandanus trees, pawpaw trees, coconut trees, babai(a type of taro root), mosses and mangrove trees. There are also yams lemons, and sugarcane as non tree plants. Without them, you are not able to get anything done. You are best able to gage if your being a successful leader if others are willing to follow you to accomplish positive change. If you are always considering others then it is easy to maintain an ethical approach because you make yourself more aware of what could be viewed as unethical within not only your contextual view but also others who think differently then you. The Relational LeadershipModel is useful to build the mindset for thinking about others if you focus on the ethical and empowering side of the model (Komives, S. R., Lucas, N., McMahon, T. R, 2013). Power is learned at an early age through family and schools. Ordinary people such as scholars hesitate to talk about power. It is often equated with force brutality, unethical behavior, manipulation, connivance, and subjugation. Power and Politics organization theory was derived from the modern structural organization in the 1970 s to its present today. In the modern structural, organizational economics, and systems/environment theories of organization, organizations are assumed to be rational institutions with its primary purpose is to accomplish established goals. People in formal authority set goals. The question is how best is it to design and manage organizations in achieving its purpose effectively and efficiently? Politics plays an increasing role as individuals merge into the work force. Power, politics and influence are essential and permanent fact of organizational life (Shafritz, Ott, Jang, 2011). Jeffery Pfeffer Understanding the Role of Power in Decision Making Pfeffer explores the advantages and limitations of power. Pfeffer states that if power is a force, a store of potential influence through which events can be affected, politics involves those activities or behaviors through which power is developed and used in organizational settings. If we are managing ecosystems, then in theory, we need to also be managing people, essentially speaking, if we develop management tools that are effective and equitable and also meet the needs of people, then we really need to understand how people use and interact with their environments, how they value and prioritise those interactions and why. So the Millennium Ecosystems Assessment (2005) defines ecosystem services as the benefits people obtain from ecosystems themselves. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Source: Millennium Ecosystem Assessment 2005 The chart above focuses on the three categories: provision, regulating and cultural services. Essentially speaking, 15 out of the 24 ecosystem services assessed belong in the degraded category, most of them in the regulating category, with the second most in the provisioning. When looking towards the mixed results category, it means they have increased in some part of the world and decreased in others, therefore mixed. Finally, the last four services were enhanced. Note that three of these are actually services that have a value in the marketplace. Often our interventions in ecosystems are about optimising or maximising those services with value in the marketplace, but sometimes at the expense of these other services. So when focusing on the ecosystem services, we must ask ourselves, how can their value be incorporated in decisions? Human well being is dependent upon a functioning and productive natural environment, so this puts human well being at the core of sustainability debates. The policy implications of this concept are based on the assumption that: Behaviour can be understood as the pursuit of well being. When stranded on a deserted island, the group of boys starts out civilized. However, by the end, the loss of innocence has turned most of them savage. Humans are essentially good. Jack is both good and evil in the book. I agree with Ralph, we ve got to have rules and obey them. After all, we re not savages (Golding 42). In the beginning, even Jack wanted a good society with rules and a leader. They all agreed to vote for a chief and have a civilization. Ralph says, This is our island. It s a good island. Until the grown ups come to fetch us we ll have fun (35). Jack thinks about the others and their well being. Piggy says, How can you expect to be rescued if you don t put first things first and act proper? (45). Jack agrees with Piggy about the importance of rescuing them all off the island. He helps explain to the others that they need to listen to Ralph if they want to survive on the island. Even though in the end, Jack becomes the enemy, the beginning shows that he is good. However, without rules and adults to enforce them, he becomes a dictator. Simon, however, is truly good. Then, amid the roar of bees, in the afternoon sunlight, Simon found for the littluns the fruit they could not reach (56). Simon, the Christ like figure, represents the good in the book. • 21. How Does Golding Present Jack s Madness In Lord Of The Flies Lord of the Flies captures countless numbers of William Golding s ideas of madness. This book presents that humans can trace the faults in society back to the defects in human nature . Jack, a character met soon after the start of the book, shows apparent madness from the very beginning. The novel shows that the madness of all the boys is deemed reasonable. Jack could only be described as a power craving, satanic, young boy. After Ralph, the leader of the group, establishes what the boys priorities are, Jack appoints himself the leader of hunting. Once the boys finally attain a kill, Jack instigates a chant, kill the pig, cut her throat, spill the blood . The chant presents that the boys are slowly becoming excessively more primitive the longer they are stranded on the island. The boys decent into savagery mimics the exact war torn world they had come from. Along the same lines as the war, there is a parallel on the island and the war torn country. Jack wants to be dictator of the entire island, but the democracy of the boys vote Ralph as their leader. Religion was an important part of the people s daily life, seeing that it determined their afterlife. There are several stories and beliefs available about this time period that are used for current references on how exactly the religious culture worked. In particular, Giovanni Boccaccios Decameron, which he wrote as a series of short stories about the religious culture during the 1350 s, which was not long after the Black Death. His series of fictional short stories gave people a different side of the story and how people truly regarded religionduring this time. Currently, people who read these excerpts can compose inferences on how religious culture was back then and it gives a different thought process, seeing that while it is not particularly true, it shows a different side of the religious culture. Answer: The United States began expanding westward during the 1800s. During the early 1800s, America turned its attention towards the exploration and settlement of its Western territory. The amount of land had been greatly increased by the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, which almost doubled the size of the nation. Later on, the size of the United States increased yet again with the Mexican Cession and the Gadsden Purchase. From these, the United States gained California, Nevada, Utah, Texas, and parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. Settlers swept westward, encouraged by the federal government. The government created the Homestead Act, which offered 160 acres of cheap land in the West under the condition that the settlers had to work the land for 5 years. As the Western territories became more and more developed, Native Americans and their culture were slowly destroyed through laws such as the Indian Removal Act and the Dawes Act. Native Americans were forced onto small reservations and their children were then forcibly assimilated into white American culture in order to make room for the white settlers. Moreover, Owl Child s approach was mainly focused on raiding and retaliation against whites for the iniquities committed against the Blackfeet. According to Fools Crow, Only Owl Child had power and courage. He took what he wanted; he deified the Napikwans and killed them. He laughed at their seizers and chiefs when they threatened revenge. The goal of Wikileaks is to provide protection for journalists, citizens, and anyone who might need to be protected from the free based or sensitive information they upload to the site. Wikileaks is protected by a network of software, anonymous postal drops, and lawyers, operating on a policy of secrecy to keep all of its posters safe from possible reprisals. I believe Wikileaks is in the right, as it allows its users to expose sensitive information and secrets that citizens need to know about. Governments have been criticizing some of the content posted, however, there is little legally that they can do. Wikileaks is essentially another branch or avenue of the public press, and there is no official secrets act to stop information from being posted. There are people doing pre publication reviews of articles posted; people who have a vested interest in ensuring the accuracy of the material. In recent years, Wikileaks has acquired mixed public reception, receiving numerous awards and appraisal, as well as harsh criticism. In 2008 and 2009, Wikileaks received the New Media Award, and in 2010, it was listed as a website that could change the way the news works. Discussion The significances from figures 1 5 would suggest that the Ice vests caused no significant physiological changes (p 0.05). However these results are inconclusive as the results are not representative of the male population with only 6 participants and no repeats which makes it statistically unreliable and non representative. Although Figure 1 shows no significant difference between control and ice vest it is apparent that there is a lower mean HR for the ice vest testing in the first 8 minutes of the experiment. This can be explained by Figure 2 which shows the reduction in Ts for ice vest compared to the control during the first 5 minutes of the experiment. This reduction in Ts causes a reduction in the need for blood flow to the skin which directly causes an increase in available blood for central circulation (Marino, 2002). The vasoconstriction as a result of the cold stimuli of the jacket would naturally increase the stroke volume (SV) and consequently cause a reduction in HR (Marino, 2002). Increased muscle blood flow could improve performance potentially. Figure 1 results showed that the ice vest tests beginning and end HR difference was 69.33 bpm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Construction work on Treblinka began at the beginning of April 1942, after some German SS soldiers came to the village of Poniatowa and inspected the locality. The camp functioned from June 1941 until July 23rd, 1944. The contractors were the German firms Schonbrunn from Leipzig, and Schmidt MГјnstermann; which had an office in Warsaw. SS HauptsturmfГјhrer Richard Thomalla from the SS Bauleitung Zamosc Supervised the construction work. The workers who primarily built the Death camp were Jews brought by truck from neighboring villages as well as some Polish prisoners of war. The construction work took 2 weeks and was completed on June 15th, 1942. The SS men and the Ukrainians who supervised the work on the camp, killed a few dozen people every day. The German who was given command of the death camp first was the Austrian SS ObersturmfГјhrer, Dr. Irmfried Eberl. Under Command of Dr. Irmfried Eberl where 30 SS officers and up to 120 Ukrainian soldiers to guard the camp. Unfortunately for Dr. Irmfried Eberl, he was not in command for too long. He was relieved of command in August 1942 by Globocnik when Globocnik and Wirth visited the camp because they caught wind of a chaotic breakdown in the extermination process because Eberl took in too many new transports and they were more than the camp ... • 52. Ratification of Constitution Essay The Constitution has been operative since 1789 after the ratification of nine states (American Vision and Values, Page 52). Today many question the relevancy of a document 222 years old to our society. The Founders created a governmental framework, defining three branches and giving powers to the government and others to the states. It also guarantees the rights of the people. It took two and one half years for the 13 colonies to ratify the Constitution. This ratification period was one of great debate and produced a series of essays complied into The Federalist. Authored by John Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay during the ratification debate in New York, they tried to get public support for the Constitution. Thus began the first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To further strengthen the rights of the people, The Bill of Rights was ratified on December 15, 1791. With only the first ten amendments, it is no accident that two amendments, 9 and 10, specifically define the Constitutions purpose to protect rights, given to the government from the people; and the powers of the government are only those delegated to it by the Constitution on behalf of the people (Spalding, Page 145). Madison in Federalist No. 10 (Page 131) also supports the view of the Framers to have great and aggregate interests being referred to the national, the local and particular to the State legislatures . Madison expounds further in Federalist No. 39 (Page 135) about the constitutional limits of government to certain enumerated objects only, and the states being delegated the remaining objects . Federalism was created in the Constitution and while it seems a difficult concept U.S. Attorney General, Edwin Meese s definition is very simply put institution design was to divide sovereignty between two different levels of political entities, the nation and the states . (American Vision and Values, Page 62). Moore goes further in support of originalism with examples of Jefferson, Madison, Crockett, Pierce and Cleveland vetoing or rebutting congressional bills ... • 53. Violent Video Games Benefits In 2013, President Obama requested congress to allocate ten million dollars for the research of the effects violent video games pose towards adolescents. Although many studies exist on the impact of video games, few have focused on the benefits. News stations are so quick to spread information on the negative effects that no one has taken into consideration that video games might have positive effects. I believe that taking a balanced perspective is essential to discovering the truth, especially with video games. While true that little research has been devoted to the benefits of video games, it is the opposite for the functions of play. Erikson (1977) thought that children, by simulating different occasions, as well as alternative emotional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is especially true with shooter video games, such as Halo 4 and Grand Theft Auto IV. A 2012 study took naive gamers that rarely or never played shooter games, and randomly assigned them to play either a shooter game or another type of video game. The gamers playing shooter games showed faster and more accurate attention allocation, high spatial resolution in visual processing, and enhanced mental rotation abilities. A meta analysis concluded that these spatial skills improvements are comparable to formal (high school and university level) courses designed to improve these same skills. This same meta analysis found that these spatial skills trained can be trained by video games in a relatively short amount of time and last for an extended period of time. Of course, these skills transfer to other spatial tasks outside of game. Preliminary research has also shown that these cognitive advantages manifest in neural processing and efficiency. An fMRI study found that the areas that control attention allocation were less active during a challenging pattern finding puzzle in gamers than in non gamers, leading the researchers to believe that shooter game players are more efficient in attention allocation and more effective at filtering out unneeded information. Cognitive neuroscientists have begun to send requests to video game companies asking to develope games designed to test hypotheses and the specific mechanisms that provide different cognitive benefits. In addition to spatial skills, some scholars believe that videogames are important in developing problem solving skills. This growth is shown between all genres. The game puzzles range from finding the quickest route from A to B, to using memorization and analytical skills to learn complicated action sequences. Also, game developers often provide very little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
