My Dear Ell The Beginning Is Based On A True Story
My Dear, Ella The beginning is based on a true story. (http://www.radiolab.org/story/91518 goat on a
cow/) 02, April, 1941 Well, mom, I hope you don t mind me calling you this.... H holy...did you notice
that? What...? Eleanor shouts. You you you you must look at that! There was a a I craned my head
towards where Eleanor pointed, but I couldn t catch a glimpse of what made her so excited. I turned
my head back to watch the road carefully, annoyed by her sudden outburst. She continued to stutter,
overwhelmed with astonishment, P P Peter, we should turn around! While shaking my arm, Eleanor
shifted until her entire body was supported by her foot, and extended her entire left arm towards the
back. There is... she lets out a burst ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My husband has written much about how much of an inspiration you are to him and his fellow
troops... Moving closer to Eleanor, I read the letter over her shoulder. 13th, March, 1941 Even though
the letter was from the 1940s, and there were many documentations of that time, my mind was filled
with awe of the historical relevance these letters could hold. These letters could be a gateway to tens
or hundreds of minds of women and men who have personal experience with World War II. These
letters were an entryway into the lives of those who had gone through years and years of strife, of
conflict. These letters give insight into the lost shadows of people from the past, letting us forever
memorialize and treasure their memories. I shout, completely disregarding the goat, who lurches with
fright, and flees into the thin trees in the distance. We must gather these notes! Eleanor looks up with
wide eyes, and nods jerkily in response. Stooping along the sides of the road, we maniacally collect
tens, and later hundreds of letters filled with personal accounts of the past, which framed at least a
small part of this world to what it finally evolved into. We are so lucky. Afterwards, a run back to my
car, and grabbing a plastic bag which I fill my letters, I feel alive. 1912! 1937! 1897! Eleanor screams
out ecstatically. As time drags from minutes to hours, Eleanor and I comb along the side of the road
until we can find no more letters. However, I am mournful, knowing that

Social Commentary On A Sprawls
How do I start reviewing a film like this? I mostly just felt very stifled with the rambunctious quips
that flow in this film like a breeze and fill it up to the very brim. Its social commentary is analogous to
the indomitably obnoxious teenage angst profiled rampantly that is ever so pervasive in this day and
age. Things to note after a thoroughgoing watch of this are that it s simply not quite your standard
typified internalized drama that sprawls incessantly and instead conjures a very pleasant, a somewhat
weirdly endearing troupe of personages that you can t help but appreciate because they re so oddly
realistic. And it s not just the empirical, ostensibly exhaustive plot and technicality matters that get to
you, but the very renditions themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problems that are entangled in the film s root aren t so prevalent and can easily be ignored, but the
film feels a tad overlong in what it is trying to accomplish. Granted, somewhat interesting story
underpinned by stellar performances while witty, incisive banter abounds in among frames, but the
arduousness has its say later on. I feel what s so good about this film lies in the fact that it s simply not
trying to cross the line and re invent the wheel, but merely give the viewer a comfortable and darkly
comical short of two hours time frame; and unsurprisingly succeeds because it has those bits on a
string. It s not rousing by any means, and neither is it contemplative or despondent because of its
affairs it could have well been that but instead prances in uncanny valley territory due to its bravura in
making the most of comicality, however glum or repulsive it might

Civil Disobedience Examples
Civil disobedience positively impacts a free society. When disobeying peacefully, one disagrees with
the current regulations, but does so in a fashion that is not disruptive. Civil disobedience does result in
tension and further disputes in the community. But these are not for long. Eventually, civil
disobedience results in the way the people wanted it to. This is proven by examples from history and
today. The Boston Tea Party, which happened on December 16, 1773, was an act of protest to the Tea
Act, which had been passed by the British Parliament. In this act of civil disobedience, colonists
disguised as Native Americans emptied out entire crates of tea into the Boston Harbor. After this
event, there was even more tension and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Saudi Arabia, women are not allowed to drive. But on October 26, 2013, several women in Saudi
Arabia peacefully disobeyed this regulation. Women in many different cities got behind the steering
wheel and filmed a video of themselves driving. They then uploaded these videos on YouTube. The
women weren t taken to police stations. Instead, they were kept in their vehicles until their male
guardians arrived, at which point the women were released after signing pledges not to drive again. At
least 35 women drove on Saudi streets that Saturday, filming and uploading their videos on to
YouTube. This action does not have a happy ending like the two previous circumstances; the
government of Saudi Arabia still does not allow women to drive. However, from the women s actions,
the Saudi government got a wake up call. Society is now showing that it wants women to be driving.
In conclusion, after the women displayed this action of civil disobedience, they felt fulfilled. They told
CNN reporters, We are very proud. I feel like we accomplished the purpose of our campaign. It is a
small step but it represents a beginning for the oppressed woman in Saudi

Water In Horses
Clean water should always be available at all time. Horses will die within two to three days if they do
not have access to water. The amount of water needed by horses will greatly depend on the weather,
age and physical activity done by the horse. Proper nutrition is crucial for maximum horse health. To
ensure the wellbeing of horses, it is important to add pellets, salt and supplements to their diet. Not
only is proper nutrition necessary to fight illness, but it helps to build muscle and provide warmth.
Ideally, the feeding room should be located near to the stables. Air temperature should be kept
constant and should be waterproof. A scale as well as method or record keeping should also be kept in
the feeding storage. To reduce the risk of fire, the hay should be stored away from the main buildings.

Essay on Christian Metaphors and Movies About War
Religion in Pop Culture
Final Essay
Platoon, directed by Oliver Stone, and Saving Private Ryan, directed by Steven Spielberg, are two
movies flush with Christian Symbolism. Both films feature scripture, Platoon opens with it, and in
Saving Private Ryan, there is a character that often quotes scripture. While there are some similarities
between the two movies, like having a Christ Figure, and a conflict between good and evil, there are
metaphors that make the films different from one another. Platoon features more complex metaphors,
and focuses on a power struggle between two characters that represent good and evil. The Metaphors
in Saving Private Ryan are obvious, and more focused on the lost returning home, then on a struggles

the Holocaust) for seemingly no other reason but to control the world. The Allied Forces become the
good, because they begin to liberate other countries, and people from Axis control. The power struggle
between the good forces and the evil forces becomes the backdrop for Captain Miller s Mission. The
General, who gives Miller his orders, could represent God, being as he is his world is considered law.
By extension, Millers mission represents God s will. Captain Miller eventually becomes the Christ
figure in the movie, leading the mission to its conclusion (Madvig). Millers mission is to save the lost
Private Ryan. Miller and his men must return the lost Ryan to his home . Ryan can be a symbol that
represents anyone who could be struggling with faith, or anyone who could be struggling against evil,
thus being lost. Home symbolizes different things, but in Christianity, returning home can mean going
to Heaven to live alongside Jesus, or finding faith, or finding Jesus. Ryan is lost in the middle of war
torn France, in the middle of the giant conflict between good and evil. As the movie progresses we see
other religious situations, and religious characters. Private Jackson (Barry Pepper) is the team s sniper,
and a good example. Jackson is as a Christian who wears a cross around his neck, and recites scripture
before he takes down a target. He is seen in the film reciting Psalm 144, and Psalm 25. There is a

How Did Palladio Influence Architecture
Palladio s influence on architects and recognition
Architectural community as well as public sees Palladio s work as attractive mainly because of the
sheer beauty of his architecture. Beauty that does not have to be explained nor justified. Palladio is
often labelled as the most influential architect in history mainly due to his dominance in architectural
development from Renaissance until present day (Scruton, 2013). Many tried to directly imitate his
work however only Palladio could benefit from prestige on a scale he has received, mostly because he
was the first European architect who worked out many variations on a basic theme to build separate
structures and on his own. Some buildings, built with symmetry in accordance with Palladio, however

His work is often recognised as work around geometrical rules. It s about tight and tidy synthesis
whilst using workable and logical grammar. There are ongoing discussions on what the rules may be
as he only ever described a few, but nonetheless they imply he had an extraordinary mind. Like many
influential artists, Palladio has measured, calculated, mirrored and counted to execute perfection
(Tavernor, 2005). Palladio s plans and facades are hypothesised to be ideal, harmonic. This ideal is
reached by an assembly of ideal shapes and dimensions, whilst taking into an account that some
numbers are more noble in Renaissance than others (Hersey and Freedman, 1992). He used
mathematical tools as devices whilst working on his designs. In order to appreciate his work fully, the
concept of symmetry and proportion is to be viewed as the key to understanding. Palladio s work was
inspired by Roman times, although build with nature in mind. The buildings are regarded as an
exercise in pure form rather than models of themselves, they fulfilled and embodied the ideal and
harmony of the magnificence own to upper class. The high class life in Palladio s buildings became a
standard and was not viewed as anything peculiar or out of place. The reason why this way of life was
widely accepted was that Italy in 16th century was not spiritual nor moral, it was political and

The Challenges Of Movement And Improvisation
Movement and Improvisation requires one to articulate his or her thoughts so that anything, no matter
whether it s an emotion, an object, a situation, an action, a reaction, or any other thing that comes to
mind, can be expressed as a movement, no matter how weird or wonderful the movement turns out to
be.
When I was first introduced to Movement and Improvisation when I entered SOTA, I felt very self
consious as I did not know if I was doing it right , or if others were judging me. However, I slowly
started to feel more comfortable and realised that no one was judging anyone. I then felt the fun in
Movement and Improvisation, as we were free to explore whatever we wanted, and there were no
fixed shapes like ballet. I started to like Movement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the biggest challenge I faced was that I kept on losing focus halfway through improvising, then
blank out. For example, once during contact improvisation, the whole class was instructed to huddle
up into a smaller ball. Once my partner and I entered the ball , I was almost crushed by someone else
as I was on the floor. This made me panic and lose track of where my partner s hands was. However,
after being able to participate in improvisation classes with Mr Sascia, Giselle, Nicole, Cherie and Su
Nin, I was able to really focus on myself and my surroundings, and not lose focus no matter what
circumstances. Another challenge I faced was that I was not able to react to music well, such as Mr
Sascia s percussion. When we were told to improvise according to Mr Sascia s music, I felt a sense of
hesitation, which led to myself not really applying the music into my movements. However after a few
classes with Mr Sascia, I learnt to be more attentive to the music and listen until the music completely
comes to a stop. By listening to the small details of the music, I was able to let my body freely react to
the music whether or not the movement was huge or very small. All these challenges I was able to
overcome thanks to my teachers Ms Phua and Mr Sascia, and also my encouraging classmates who
pushed me to do my

Classifying Different Types of Shoppers
In today s world things are a lot different than the way they used to be. People are becoming much
more alert and aware of things that are going on around them. Many people do not enjoy doing things
that other people enjoy. It can be a win or lose situation. There are some things in life that people have
to do whether they want to or not. Throughout many different places many people have to go do this
on a daily basis. Lots of men usually do not want to be involved. It is usually left for the women to
take over. There are very many types of shoppers that people deal with on a daily basis, they are
different in many ways such as, children, young adults, and senior citizens.
By all means, shopping can be difficult for children for many reasons. To start, they are very
impatient. They do not want to wait for their parents to get done shopping, whatever they want they
expect to get it now.. When checking out at the register everything is in their reach. They are then
grabbing things and throwing that in the cart as well. Also, it is difficult with children shopping
because sometimes they can be combative. If a child does not get what they want then they will most
of the time throw themselves down and have a tantrum. It makes the parents look so bad, as well as
the child who is acting out. It is not good to be combative because then someone may get hurt. After
all, children shoppers do not care how much anything cost. They will just pick any and everything up

Barack Obama s Story Analysis
Barack Obama s story is a story that has been infused into his genetic foundation, the idea that his
nation is greater than the sum of it. The parts which are many, they are just one. Obama believes that
we can t work out the challenges of our time unless we come together as one and unite to solve them .
We all want a better future for our children and grandchildren and unless we perfect the union by
understanding that we all have many different stories, each one is unique. But one thing that everyone
do have in common is hope, which can t give up on. Obama s belief comes from his dense faith and
generosity of the American people. Barack was born in Hawaii in 1961. His mother and father come
from two completely different places. His father is from Kenya and his mother is from Kansas. His
father being black and his mother white. From this we can assume that he has family from all different
races, which makes him a very diverse person. He is married to a woman who carries the blood of a
slave and a slave owner, whose genes also carried down to their two daughters. He wants to carry
down the diversity to all the people in America because race is a big issue that the nation cannot afford
to be ignored. Obama said that if we do ignore it, we will be making the same mistake as the
Reverend. Which was to break down, discriminate and intensify the negative to the point that it twists
the reality. We, the nation, have not yet worked through the complexities of race which is a part of the
union which we still have to perfect. If we walk away from these complexities that we have to perfect,
we will never be able to unite and solve the problems. For example, healthcare or education. Reverend
Wright and Obama s relationship has been through a lot. The reverend has helped Obama become part
of the Christian faith and he was the man who spoke to him about the obligations to love another
which Obama was really strong about in his presidency. Reverend was the one who tended to the sick
and pick up the poor. He helped serve his country in the Marines. Wright has studied and lectured at
some of the best universities and seminaries in the country. Who over thirty years led a church who
houses the homeless, ministers the

Dbq World War 1 Analysis
As stated by Roosevelt, We have nothing to fear but fear itself. Fear and paranoia were only one force
adding pressure to Europe before it burst into full out war. Anyone with extensive knowledge on The
Great War could probably give a list of copious causations, among those being nationalistic
tendencies, the alliance system, paranoia, and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. World
War I was primarily sparked through the assassination, with underlying tones of nationalism, alliances,
and paranoia fueling the fire. Nationalistic ego on part of Europe as a whole boiled Ferdinand s
assassination into action, pushing Europe into war. [Serbia] has done nothing to suppress
these[rebellious] movements (Doc 3). Austria Hungary had no compassion to the thoughts of the
Serbian citizens while they ruled over them, only thinking of more territory they could dominate, and
in turn, terrorist groups like The Black Hand, sprouted and eventually were successful in their
mission. However, Austria Hungary and Serbia were not alone in blame. The entirety of Europe were

to not be drawn to negativity happening in their community. There are many different ideas on how to

and stick to it for all criminals. Many of the criminals are getting off with little to no punishment,
which sometimes they become repeat offenders. With some criminals having good behavior while

one melodic, one harmonic that operate sometimes separately and sometimes together. The global

harmonic motion proceeds through an expanded LR cycle, with periodic short cuts from one zone of

[7] The melodic cell and harmonic progression J and DOWN THIRD UP FIFTH sometimes occur
independently, but for the most part interact to create a larger unit. This larger unit, given at the bottom
of Example 2, is the motive of my title.(8) Again, the fact that the motive is exclusively diatonic is
significant, because it makes the chromatic pitch classes especially salient. [8] The opening of the
piece animates the motive by repeating and varying the duration of J while arpeggiating the chords of
DOWN THIRD UP FIFTH. Example 3 annotates the melody of m. 1 through the downbeat of m. 3,
which fuses together three Js.(9) By fusing together three Js and altering the duration of the final pitch
of each J (the durations are , , and , for the three occurrences, respectively), Brahms creates a
symmetrical rhythmic structure.(10) The dots below the staff indicate metric position: two dots
indicate a strong beat, one dot a weak beat.(11) The first J starts on a strong beat and concludes on a
weak beat. The third J starts on a weak beat and

Tuberculosis Is A Disease Caused By The Bacteria Tubercle...
Introduction:
Tuberculosis is a disease caused by the bacteria tubercle bacilli (NSW Health 2014). It is one of
mankind s oldest infections and has plagued humans throughout recorded and archaeological history
(Encyclopaedia Britannica 2014). Tuberculosis comes in an infectious and disease form. The
infectious form is the result of contraction of TB bacteria that remains dormant and is neither
symptomatic nor contagious. The disease form of TB is caused by active TB bacteria and results in the
contagious and fatal tuberculosis disease.
History of Tuberculosis
Tubercle bacilli emerged as a pathogen from East Africa, and as people migrated so did the disease.
Tuberculosis lesions contain acid fast bacilli which have been found in Egyptian and Peruvian
mummies (Schlossberg page 97). From these findings, historians and microbiologists have concluded
that mycobacterium is millions of years old.
Physiology of mycobacterium:
Tubercle bacilli is a type of mycobacterium. Its prototrophic, metabolically flexible membrane (US
National Library of Medicine 2008) enables it to metabolize and reproduce without specific
substances, increasing its speed of replication and infection. The tubercle bacilli s rod shape enables it
to withstand a combination of selective pressures (Kerseik K 2013), including nutrient access and
predation. Nutrient absorption is maximised by the cell s ability to match increases in cell size by
increasing its cell length. This maintains its high surface

For The Statement Of Purpose For Mechanical Engineering
Statement of Purpose
What is common between a simple linear actuator and a modern F 16 fighter jet? Many might
instantly quote the most conspicuous features. But one aspect of great influence in building systems
ranging from an actuator to a jet is the hidden technology (as stated by Prof. Richard Murray) being
controls. The future of mechanical engineering, when I envision it, is a world of smart, efficient
mechanical systems: self driving cars, autonomous robots, intelligent manufacturing lines and smart
energy grids. The ability of Control theory to manage and regulate behavior of systems in multiple
domains of Mechanical Engineering is appealing to me. It supplements my tendency to be versatile.
With a desire to learn advanced concepts in control theory and to apply them to a real world problem,
I want to pursue a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Controls. An
exploration into IC engines in my sophomore year, helped me secure an internship at Ashok Leyland
R D center. This gave me an industrial insight into engine assembly techniques, sensor systems and
had a hands on opportunity to install an EGR and Turbocharger module. I was awed by the interplay
of various minute components in an IC engine coming together to work in unison. Watching how

Liberal Party Ideology
During the 2015 Canadian federal election campaign, Justin Trudeau s Liberal Party took policy
positions that were furthest to the political left compared to the other two main parties, the
Conservative Party and the New Democratic Party (NDP). In an effort to appeal to traditional liberal
supporters as well as voters who traditionally identify with the NDP, the Liberal Party adopted a
reform liberal economic agenda and social democratic policies. Conversely, Thomas Mulcair, the
leader of the NDP, embraced a campaign platform to the right of the Liberals. In particular, the NDP s
agenda blended neo liberal economic policies with moderate conservative social policies. Stephen
Harper s Conservative Party adopted policies that were similar to the ideologies of the New Right,
which embodies neo liberal economic policies and conservative social policies. This essay will argue
that the ideological similarities between the Conservatives and the NDP changed the political
landscape in the recent election as voters were left with only two distinct political ideologies to choose

A Brief Note On The Field Of Biotechnology
ABSTARCT
The field of biotechnology is always advancing . From finding ways to slow down th e process of food
spoilage , advancements in genetic engineering to adapting organisms to clean p contaminated

help our world. In the field of biotechnology biology is used involving the use of living organisms in
engineering, technology, medicine and other fields that have include anything with bio products.
Those products are also used in biotechnology for manufacturing purposes. Other words that are alike
are ones that include the engineering of genes and also a technologies cell and tissue culture. The basic
idea surrounds a wide range of steps (and history) for changing living organisms according to human
purposes such as going back to the cultivation of animals, plants, and advancements to these through
programs that breed and that employ synthetic selection . When comparing biotechnology,
bioengineering is basically thought of as a field that has a lot of similarities especially with its
emphasis for using living things.

the world around where he can see his progression from the stagnant world of the underclass into a

fact that his perception of the underclass world is not prejudiced or unnecessarily biased as one can

Socrates. Plato was a student of his and went on to teach many famous people such as Aristotle, who
wrote treatises on everything from poetry to biology, and even Alexander the Great. Plato was born
into a wealthy family around the last days of the Athenian Empire (427 347 B.C.). Plato was also an
advisor to the king of Syracuse. Plato had great influence throughout the history of philosophy, often
being called the father of Western philosophy. He wrote over twenty philosophical dialogues and
thirteen letters ( ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believes he would be going against his beliefs and character if he chose to escape. The last
dialogue is Phaedo, a beloved disciple of the great teacher. Socrates shows his belief of the
immortality of the soul. This dialogue was the fourth and last detailing the final days of Socrates.
Socrates presents four arguments for the immortality of the soul. First, there is the claim that the soul
is made up of basic forms. Second, the fact that we are born with certain innate knowledge proves that
the knowledge is eternal. Third, people generally agree the soul is different from the body. Fourth, the
soul is by definition living and thus can t die in any meaningful way. At the end of the dialogue,
Socrates is executed by poison hemlock. Phaedo was right by his side until his death. Phaedo said that
, although I was witnessing the death of someone who was my friend, I had no feeling of pity, for the
man appeared happy both in manner and words, as he died nobly and without fear (p. 212). I was
personally intrigued by the entire book. While the read was somewhat difficult to follow, I knew that it
being such a true story and a part of so much of our history, I couldn t put it down. I gained such an
overwhelming sense of understanding for Socrates after reading The Last Days of Socrates. I believe
if I had to recommend a starter book for Ancient Philosophy I would definitely recommend

Caffeine the Most Popular Drug in The World
Coffee and tea have been around for many centuries. Coffee was discovered in the land of Abyssinia
or also known as Ethiopia (Pendergrast, 2001). It became one of the many sources to create ideas, a
common drink for work or school, and created problems. It is common to buy coffee now from
Starbucks, Philz Coffee, or brewing it ourselves. Coffee is use to start out our day and keep us awake.
Since discovering coffee, Americans consume it everyday. On the other hand, not only is coffee very
popular drink but so is drinking Tea. The discovery of tea is very diverse, it goes through many
histories and cultural stories. The history of it started out when the British made tea their representing

Pros And Cons Of Mass Media Essay
What the mass media offer is not popular art, but entertainment which is intended to be consumed like
food, forgotten, and replaced by a new dish W.H Auden. The quote is trying to convey the message
that the mass media is just to humor people on a daily basis and then we ll forget about it at the end of
the day, just like how we consume food on a daily basis and then replace it with a new dish. It is
crucial to understand that the mass media is something that everyone around the world are exposed to
every single day of our lives. It is something that is being depended on by many, and have also played
a big role in our lives. The mass media keeps people all over the world updated about news, events
and advertisements easily. Mass media can be defined as the mean to reach out to the public through

However, there are also advantages to using the mass media. The exposure to different forms of mass
media cause people to be more aware of whatever that is happening around the whole world. For
example, the newspaper, the internet, the radio and the television are a few forms of mass media that
leads to a very fast spread of information. The information about the latest news, be it entertainment,
major events across the world or even sports can read people within minutes. This is all thanks to the
mass media. People can be aware of any social and political events that are happening, not only in
their own country, but the entire world. People can then plan for the future, if they know the changes
of the economy, any assumptions about the fall or rise of prices of goods or news about the decline or
growth in jobs. Weather forecast reports about harsh weather conditions can be reported through the
mass media. The media is also the fastest way to spread awareness to people to take safety measures,
in the case of any natural or man made disasters (Manali Oak, March 13

Fear In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Franklin D. Roosevelt conveyed human nature in these
words, which painted the picture of fear s grip on our thoughts and actions. In Lord of the Flies by
William Golding, a stranded group of boys transformed to savages as they attempted to extinguish the
source of their uneasiness, only they were too late to learn that fright was not something driven away
by a stick sharpened at both ends (Golding 267). Trepidation was proven to be all controlling
throughout Golding s writing as it prompted the juveniles to kill under night s shadows while
pressuring them to act rashly to keep from being hunted by an imaginary monster.
Ironically, the terror brought on by the mysteriousness of nightfall, along ... Show more content on

momentarily soothed the children. Exploration for meat, in addition to maintaining a rescue fire, again

Samneric saw the dead parachutist on the mountain. Despite having a two against one chance, they
mistook it for their worst nightmare rather than inspecting the situation further. The bright morning
was full of threats and the circle began to change. It faced out, rather than in, and the spears of
sharpened wood were like a fence (Golding 137). This was a major turning point in the novel, because
the smoke signal was no longer a priority, while the lads thoughts were consumed with fright by the
beast and the lust for hunting. In a sacrificial effort to satisfy the monster, they also left the head of
their killed pig as an offering (Golding 191). From then on, instead of focusing on being rescued,

The Patriarchal Power Structure Of Households Essay
Fathers and mothers in households today continue to partake in a gendered, asymmetrical division of
labour. Mothers still contribute more to household labour even though today s father contribute more
than fathers of the past. The discrepancy is because gendered norms to do with paid and unpaid work
continue to prevail in both policy and social attitudes. The patriarchal power structure of households is
linked back to the nuclear family being idyllic with mothers completing all unpaid labour and fathers
providing in the financial sense. Since the 1970s, Western society has moved away from the nuclear
family structure with rigidly gendered roles toward an egalitarian household set up. Part of this shift
was women moving into paid work and another part was men slightly increasing their contribution to
unpaid labour in the household. Despite the increase labour women contribute to provide financially
for the household, splitting that burden with their husbands, men have not increased their
contributions to household duties to the same extent. Newer representations of father s contributions to
childcare and housework are idealisations not actual representations of experience. These
representations, again, positively impact men while co currently women are vilified for not finding the
right work life balance.
Fathers today contribute more to childcare and housework than their fathers did but their contribution
isn t significant in comparison to the amount of work today s mothers

Pubius Cornelius Tacitus Essay
Pubius Cornelius Tacitus (55 118AD), was a historian from an equestrian family born in either norther
Italy or Southern Gaul who wrote Biography of Agricola in 98 AD followed by Histories in 105 AD.
The first document, an excerpt from Biography of Agricola 29 32 is a fictional speech from the British
war chief named Calgacus who was preparing his people for battle against Gnaes Julius Agricola the
governor of the Roman provinces in Briton from 78 85 AD and also Tacitus father in law. The second
document is an excerpt from Tacitus Histories 4.74 which is also a fictional speech. This speech given
through the view point of Petillius Cerialis a Roman general who stopped the revolt of the people of
Gaul in 70AD. In my essay I am going to assess whether or not Tacitus motives throughout the
speeches are to shed negative light on Roman conquest and Roman rule of its conquered territories. ...

read the excepts from both documents, I do not know what content he wrote leading up to the
speeches, nor do I know what came after them which could give me more insight into why he wrote
what he did. What I can use though is the information that I do know, such as his biases and the shared
style of writing between the documents to formulate my own opinion. For the excerpt from Biography
of Agricola I know that the fact that Agricola was Tacitus father in law is a definite bias towards how
and why he wrote that document. As for the excerpt from Histories could the fact that he may be from
southern Gaul have influenced him to write the speech? For both speeches though Tacitus main bias is
that he is a wealthy Roman male whom was raised in a different world than the people that are

The Importance Of A Good Life
As a young adult, it is really difficult to define what a good life is. A Good life it s an expression that
is interpreted differently by every individual. However, my humanities class helped me clarify my
thoughts about how the term good life could be defined. A good life is living with ambition and
creating new experiences with the ones you love the most. For me, a good life not only consist of me
reaching my goals but it also lies on helping the people around me to reach their goals. Having the
right values and priorities complement a gratifying life. During this journey, I have learned that
analyzing several situations can lead to a great way of associating ideas and understanding certain
events that take place in my life. Medicine is a very rigorous field of study, therefore I must hold the
concept of a good life in order to achieve my goals and keep my priorities in the right order.
Humanities has been a great base for me to develop the right mindset to pursue my career. For
instance, the modules: The True Purpose of a Liberal Education, Morality and Ethics, Happiness,
Nature, and Life Affirmation, were the ones that made the most significant impact on my perspective
in life. In today s society, people are becoming accustomed to following the popular beliefs instead of
thinking in depth and forming their own opinions. In some cases, it is evident that some individuals
deviate away from the obvious which leads them to become unconsciously ignorant. In

The Bronze David By Donatello Of The Early Renaissance
The Bronze David by Donatello of the Early Renaissance shows a subtle transition through style and
form to the High Renaissance when compared to the marble David by Michelangelo. Yet a similar
Renaissance interpretation of the character of David is seen in both pieces. Donatello s David
embodies the humanism and classicism of the Italian Renaissance, and pioneers styles that would
influence a generation. The perfection of David by Michelangelo creates a similar allusion to
humanism and classical form while indicating Donatello s lasting influence and inserting neoplatonic
ideas of the High Renaissance. Through his Bronze David, 1430, Donatello documents a biblical
character in a form that captures the ideals of the Italian Renaissance. The five foot and two inch piece
recreates the moment after the human hero David slays Goliath whose head lies at his feet. The
structure, Figure 1, not only celebrates the use of human wit and potential, but David s nudity
emphasizes the human body s physical grace. In addition, the figure s bareness is accentuated by the
calf length boots and large hat. The use of the free standing style allows the human form to be
appreciated at every angle. This quintessential instance of human heroism is documented by the artist
and articulated by the sculpture with an air of nonchalance. The poetic and heroic indifference and self
satisfaction expressed in Donatello s David is classified as sprezzatura. Sprezzatura is the idyllic
attitude of a human

Monogamy Vs Polygamy
Relationships are complicated, especially romantic ones; they involve a wide range of emotions and
expectations that need to be met or the relationship will fail. When it comes to polygamy there are
even more variables added to the equation since there are additional partners involved in the
relationship. Unlike the common belief that polygamy is where a man has multiple wives, it is actually
much more in depth where both sexes can have other romantic partners. As long as one lets their
partner know who they are seeing the relationship is considered healthy, although there is still the
obvious possibility of jealousy occurring. Honesty is everything in polygamy, even though individuals
are allowed to be romantically involved with others, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the United States it is illegal to be in an any of the three forms of polygamy if one is married. In the
early days Mormons were even persecuted if they were found practicing polygamy. If individuals
want to be polyamorous they must do so without being lawfully wedded to their partners. In a society
that is constantly progressing towards giving people their rights, polygamist still struggle in being
viewed as a legitimate way of life. With the gay rights movement having so much momentum and
finally becoming legal in the United States, polygamist thought the outcome could soon be the same
for them. The one major argument against polygamy is that it is a choice unlike the predetermination
of one s sexual orientation. Critics suggest that individuals should just be single instead of engaging in
a relationship where they are not faithful to one person. Although it is not certain where the future of
polygamy is headed, the controversial lifestyle is growing in popularity as more people explore their
sexual and emotional identities.
There is no doubt that as time goes on new generations develop different attitudes than their parents
which in turn shapes the modern world we live in. As far as marriages go, people are no longer in such
rush to get married, have children, and start the typical family associated with adulthood. This in part
could be because of high divorce rates that many individuals have experienced either with their
parents or someone they know. Cathy Meyer

school freshmen and sophomores, ranging in age from 14 16 years, and were enrolled in a college

purpose of this paper is to present the data analysis of this quantitative research study. Research

The alternate hypothesis was: There is a significant relationship between individuals IQ score rank and
instructional media preference. In a correlational study, an alternate hypothesis claims that a
relationship exists between the variables (Gilbert, 2006). A relationship means that where learners
score on the Stanford Binet Intelligence Scale is related to which medium they choose to use for
instruction. Another way to write this is: Ha: ρXY ≠ 0, where Ha is the symbol for the alternative
hypothesis, ρ for the significance which will be ≤0.5, and XY which represents the predictor variable,
learner IQ, or X, paired with the criterion variable, or instructional media choice, or Y. For this study,
the predictor variable, learner IQ score, is interpreted as a rank, an ordinal level of measurement and
the criterion variable, instructional media preference, as a nominal level of measurement. According to
Black (1999), Cramer s C (also known as V) is an appropriate statistical measure when a single
sample examines ordinal and nominal levels of measurement. In fact, using Black s (1999) decision
table for selecting association or correlation coefficients, the ordinal level of measurement, in this case
learner IQ ranking, should be reduced to a nominal level (p.626). Descriptive statistics Univariate

Book Review: The Second Shift
It is believed that women have to work more than men. However, focuses upon studying the history of
the society, they are never given an acknowledgment for this matter. With the passage of time, women
start getting the equal importance in the society and they receive the right of engaging in the
professional activities (Arlie Russell Anne, 1989). Still, in spite of having professional commitments,
they do not get freedom from the childcare and other household activates, which doubles up their
burden. On the other hand, men enjoy freedom from the household undertakings with excuses of their
professional obligations.
The Second Shift, by Arlie Hochschild, is a book, which sheds light on the women men work disparity
in the family domain. Basically, in this book, it encompasses different results of the surveys,
conducted by the author on the theme of the marital responsibility. It indeed portrays the prevailing
inequality between men and women in the human society when it comes to share the domestic
obligations. It also extracts the types of couples and their preference on this matter from this survey

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo By Lsbeth Salander Quotes
I have never been more intrigued by a character then I have with this text. In the novel, The Girl With
The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson, Larsson writes in a thought provoking and all around different
caricature in the form of Lisbeth Salander. Lisbeth is the secondary protagonist in the novel and is a
terrific character at that. Unlike some of the other characters, she connects effectively to the overall
theme of the novel. She is different from the people that surround her due to her being both the victim
and survivor of abuse, physical as well as sexual. She is characterized by her nonconformity, as she
tends to lean towards the eccentric in style and with attitude. Though she looks very unconventional
on the outside, the many times of trauma she has gone through, the way she acts, make what she
thinks and says very compelling. Lisbeth Salander works with Blomkvist to solve the mystery of
Harriet Vanger s disappearance. From early childhood, Salander has a history of violence and cruel
behavior among her loved ones and the few people she cares for. Though having a run in with bullies
when she was younger, the worst for her was home life. At a young age, Salander had thrown gasoline
on her father and set him on fire due to him beating her mother to the point of brain damage. Her
father survived, resulting in Lisbeth being declared a danger to herself and others. She was sent

charmed millions with his unique style and techniques. Tim Burton uses low key lighting and non
diegetic sound in order to fluctuate the emotions, perspectives of the character, situations, and mood in
order to show his audience that everyone is different in their own special way.
To begin, Tim Burton uses low key lighting to manipulate different emotions within the audience and
create suspense. In Burton s film The Corpse Bride, when Victor is walking through the forest,

In Burton s film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he uses non diegetic sound when Willy Wonka is
walking the children and their parents into the edible room. Burton uses non diegetic sound to show
the different perspectives of each one of the children and their reaction to the room but it also changes
the mood of the story. By using the orchestral music, Tim Burton is able to show the children and their
parents thoughts and emotions.Burton allows the audience to get a deeper understanding of the
characters. Another film that buron uses non diegetic sounds in is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
In the scene as Victor rehearses his vows, the music is proud and triumphant, but when Victor places
the ring, unknowingly, on the bride s figure the music changes to a dark and frantic soundtrack, which
changes the mood of the crowd from being happy for Victor to being scared for him as he runs away

the setting for the audience. Burton also is able to portray that Victor s mood is also changing. In
addition to allowing the audience to gain a better understanding of the characters, Burton uses non
diegetic sounds to foreshadow the events that are about to happen, such as when the music changes
suddenly to frantic music the viewers can predict that something bad is

Persuasive Essay On Drinking And Driving
Drunk Driving Kills Drunk driving is a dangerous problem that continues to take hundreds of lives
each year. Is drinking and driving worth one s life? This one decision, which may not seem important
at the time, can end badly. Drunk driving is a huge problem in America. Driving under the influence of
alcohol is a serious cause to road accidents and deaths. Drunk driving is dangerous for not only the
person under the influence, but for the drivers and passengers as well. An intoxicated person
endangers everyone on the road. Many people that drink and drive are under aged teens. Underage
drinking is a tremendous problem in the United States. In the article of National Institute on Alcohol
Abuse and Alcoholism, many young people drink alcohol by the age of fifteen. Thirty three percent of
teens have had at least one drink. In 2015, 7.7 million teen s ages 13 20 reported that they drank
alcohol in the past month. Many teens consume ninety percent of alcohol by binge drinking. Binge
drinking is an excessive amount of alcohol in a short period of time. An image of a picture shows how
drinking and driving can be dangerous. The visual argument shown is of a solider in his mid thirties,
putting up a sign saying, Don t Drink and Drive . The sign is standing up against a broken down,

The Irrational Consumer Culture Surrounding Education
In his book Why Teach?, Mark Edmundson constructs an argument about the paradoxical consumer
culture surrounding education. The Virginian professor takes a stance on the problems that he has both
experienced in his own classroom and observed on campuses, and he approaches each problem in
turn, making significant claims which are assigned appropriate blames. His essay, Liberal Arts Lite
Entertainment, originally published in 1997, is broken into six sections and begins with his experience
at his own university before branching out to all those across the country. Following this is a
deduction of student culture as well as professors. He gives hope to the idea of the acceptance and
praising of genius (as opposed to the alienation students endorse so well) towards the end of his essay,
narrowing his argument down to a more specific change that could possibly cause a domino effect
from individual students to universities across America. The scale of the situation is much too large to
be easily fixed, and it is clear that Edmundson s purpose in writing this essay is to inform those who
are engulfed in the academic world. More specifically, it seems, he targets professors and higher level
students, and even possibly their parents. By singling out these people and making the problem of
consumer culture in universities known to those who care exponentially about educating the youth, it
is much more likely that Edmundson s argument will trickle down to said youth in the process

Critiquing Pickles King And Belan s Study
INTRODUCTION This essay will be critiquing Pickles, King and Belan s study of nursing students
attitudes to caring for patients with HIV and/or AIDS (2012) by evaluating each component of the
paper, including the credibility of the authors, literature review, research aim, methodology, sample,
ethical considerations, data collection and analysis, results and conclusions. Finally, the relevance of
the research to nursing practice will be considered. Understanding research is essential for nurses as
this ensures that the most up to date, safe and effective care is given. In addition to this, The Code
(Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2015) states that any advice or information given to a service user
must be based on the best available evidence, which should be based on methodologically sound [and]
clinically relevant research (DiCenso, Guyatt and Ciliska, 2005, p. 4). By understanding and critically

Bronze Bow Quotes
Matthew 1:44 says, But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
(Matthew 1:44). This verse means that God wants us to love and pray for our enemies, not to hate
them. This verse is also true in a lot of different books like The Bronze Bow. In the novel The Bronze
Bow, by Elizabeth George Speare, the theme Love can overcome Hate is shown by Samson, Jesus,
and Simon to Daniel.
First, Samson displays love to Daniel in many distinctive ways. He works in Rosh s camp for Daniel
by carrying water to the camp, hunting for food, and keeping Daniel s kiln going (Pg. 29 31). Also,
Samson cares for Daniel by sleeping by him and protecting him (Pg. 34 35). Most of all, Samson
surrenders his own life to save Daniel and his friends to rescue Joel instead of staying safe and
protecting himself (Pg. 207 210). Above all, Samson did all these things for Daniel to recompense him
for what Daniel did for him. Daniel freed Samson from his chains and Samson saw that Daniel was
the one who saved him, not Rosh (Pg. 14). Samson feels like he must commit to do all that he can to

Simon shows love while caring for Daniel s family by alerting him that his grandmother is dying and
by giving his house up for Leah, Daniel s sister (Pg. 113, 121). He also cares for Daniel s faith by
taking for him to see Jesus and inviting him to talk with Jesus (Pg. 44 45). Also, Simon explains
certain parts of Jesus teaching that can relate to his life to Daniel like, He says that the only chains that
matter are fear and hate because they chain our souls. (Pg. 244). And, Simon informs and shows
Daniel that he needs to put his faith and hope in Jesus so that he can have eternal life forever by how it
affects his own life (Pg. 242 244). Simon s faith in Jesus made an effect on Daniel in the way he acted
towards Daniel s vow of hate against the Romans for his father and his

Book Of Matthew
Matthew The book of Matthew is a Gospel that contains Narraitive History, Genealogy, Parables,
Sermons, and some Prophetic Oracles. It was composed by Matthew (Levi), the Disciple of Christ
around 48 50 A.D. The catchphrase in Matthew is Kingdom and it utilized 28 times. The identities of
this book incorporate the Messiah Jesus Christ, family Mary and Hoseph, and the Twelve Disciples,
the prophet John the Baptist, and different sorts of leaders. These leaders incorporate those in
government like Pilate and religious leaders, for example, the Pharisees ( who endeavor to impede the
work of Jesus).
The book of Matthew is the first of the brief accounts and it was omposed to uncover the Lord Jesus

His life expectance, death and birthplace as well as other facts are unknown. Mathew, Mark and John

radical Jews who turned to viciousness in their endeavors to topple the Romans by compel. Another
probability is that Barabbas really asserted to the guaranteed Messiah and endeavored, alongside his
band of kindred renegades to spare Israel from the oppression of Rome. This decision is uphead by the
Syrian original copy of the New Testament which deciphers Barabbas in Matthew 27:17 as Jesus
Child of Abba meaning that Barabbas guaranteed to be the deliverer of the general population. In the
trial of Christ in Pilot s court, Pilot allowed the Jews to pick which detainee they wanted discharged, a
custom of the time. The characterizing occasion that makes Barabbas recollected in history is not his
rough crusade yet rather the minutes when the Jews collectively voted to have him, a criminal,
discharged and to have Jesus, who was guiltless, executed. Barabbas then, leaves a legacy that
highlights Jesus as our Subsitute, the one who took the place of all criminals, liar s and sinners so that
they can live and believe in

The Holocaust Memories
Adolf Hitler s rise to power grew out of issues left unresolved by the earlier conflict during World War
I. Resentment and harsh terms imposed by the Versailles Treaty only fueled Hitler s revenge, which
would result in the largest blood bath the world has ever come to see. World War II would be
considered the deadliest war in history, murdering millions of civilians. In 1939, Adolf Hitler invaded
Poland resulting in a deadly six year battle until the final allied defeat of both Nazi Germany and
Japan in 1945.
In August 1939, Hitler and Joseph Stalin signed the Germany Soviet Nonaggression Pact. The
Nonaggression pact meant that Hitler would get assistance from the soviets if he invaded Poland. If
Hitler was to invade Poland, Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the beginning of the coming Holocaust.
In 1941, Germans started to transport the people they believed were the least useful from the ghettos
to the concentration camps. Many of these people were sick, old and very young. On March 17, 1942,
the first gassings began at the camp of Belzec. From then, five more mass killing centers were built at
camps in Poland. Between 1942 and 1945, Jews were taken to the camps from all over Europe. In
Warsaw ghetto, 300,000 Jews were taken and placed into a camp and at Auschwitz more than 2
million people were murdered. Within the labor camps, there was a large population of Jewish and non
Jewish prisoners who were not only gassed, but thousands of others either died of disease or
starvation. A large proportion of Hungary s Jewish population was taken to Auschwitz, killing as many
as 12,000 Jews every day.
The high amount of killings made this camp impossible to keep a secret. The mass killings that were
occurring could not be kept behind closed doors for too long, eventually the world would find out
what was going on and it would come to an end. By 1945, German leadership was dissolving and
Hitler lost his power. In his last will and political testament, Hitler blamed the war on International
Jewry and its helpers and urged the German leaders and people to follow the strict observance of the
racial laws and with merciless resistance against the universal poisoners of all people the

Why Federal Communication Commission Has Legal Authority...
Alaina Case
Professor Powers
Final Paper
JOUR 3060
Due Date: 4 May 2015
Section I
In order to understand why Federal Communication Commission has legal authority to regulate media
ownership and should be allowed to continue to regulate media ownership, you must first know the
statues that gave way to the regulation. The FCC was created by the Communications Act of 1934.
The Communications Act of 1934 replaced the Radio Act of 1927, and the FCC superseded the FRC
(Federal Radio Commission). This act called for the government to regulate in the public interest and
foreign communications by radio and wire. The FCC can be traced back to the Wireless Ship Act of
1910. The Wireless Ship Act of 1910 required large ships to have wireless equipment and radio
operators on board...made it illegal not to retransmit or answer wireless transmissions from ships. This
law was the first U.S. regulation on devices that used electromagnetic spectrum. The Chain
Broadcasting Rules, was the first national ownership limit passed by the FCC in 1941. These rules
regulated major national radio networks, in relation to local stations. These regulations also included a
structural ownership rule limiting a radio network from owning more than one broadcast station
within a market area, reflecting the Commission s earlier presumption that a single entity holding
more than one broadcast license in the same community contravened the public interest. This idea was
upheld in the Supreme Court

The First Sermon Essay
Buddhist art, like most kinds of art, cannot be reduced to a specific set of visual characteristics.
However, within a certain time period and region, there are recurring details in many Buddhist works
of art. The First Sermon (2ndc 3rdc: Gandhara), which depicts Buddha delivering his first sermon, is
no exception to this fact. The design and visual characteristics of The First Sermon serve as clear
evidence that the work was created during the rule of the Kushan empire, specifically in Gandhara.
Additionally, those same characteristics suggest that the piece was most likely used for adornment of a
temple or other structure rather than for individual worship. The First Sermon shares many of the
same details seen in other Kushan era artworks that came out of Gandhara. The most notable aspect
that stands out is the work s heavy Greek influence. When speaking of Buddhist ... Show more content

The piece is originally part of a panel, which would likely include other scenes as part of a larger
story. Even inside the particular scene, the Buddha is not alone but instead is surrounded by other
figures, which further suggests that it was not meant for worship. As Behrendt and Brancaccio state in
their text, when the purpose is worship, the Buddha is usually presented as independent (Behrendt and
Brancaccio 19). Finally, the small size of the piece indicates that it was not intended for any sort of
adoration. With merely 32cm x 27cm in size, the work does not compare to larger and more detailed
works that could adequately be used for worship. In conclusion, The First Sermon helps as further
evidence and guidance towards fully understanding the history of Buddhist art. Although it does not
display any particularly unique features, the piece of art serves to strengthen concepts of South Asian
art as well as its uses in everyday

Some of the most popular Hispanic dishes that are prepared during Cinco de Mayo are carnitas,
barbocoa, moles and menudo. Identification Traditional Hispanic food can be identified by the
appearance of the tortillas and the thick, rich enchilada sauces that can be green, brown or red and
resemble a thick gravy. Rice and refried beans typically are served inside of the tortillas or on the side,

Melted cheese over the top of the dish is also a good indication of Hispanic food. Function The
function of Hispanic food is to fulfill the traditional ways of growing, eating and serving Hispanic
food. Hispanic food is high in carbohydrates, making it a filling meal because of the beans and cheese
that are served along with it. The combination of the beans and cheese with the spicy seasonings and
salsa give the food added flavor and traditional Hispanic flair. Hispanic food can be made into meals
for large groups of people and large families quickly, cheaply and easily. Most Hispanic food keeps

The Moral Of Moral Agents
Moral Agents
The moral agents in this situation are the parents, the children, and the application developer. The
parents are faced with the awkward situation of using the application to track their kids for a multitude
of reasons. One of the most apparent reasons would be to use the application with the intent of
knowing who their children are interacting with and possibly where they go when they are out of the
house. The children do have some possible choices to make regarding this supposed invasion of
privacy with varying degrees of moral standing. They could look into using applications that mask
their activity or employ the less moral route of removing the software entirely. Finally, the developer
himself is in control of the entire scenario since it all hangs on his choice of going forward with the
development of the application. After all, if he just refuses to take part in the project and takes the
consequences that follow such a choice, he is removed from the discussion entirely.
What is at stake? Who/What are the stakeholders? The most obvious stakeholder is the company that
develops the application. This company has to balance financial longevity with maintaining a moral
and legal standing in society. The primary goal of any software company is to make money and by
creating a controversial piece of software, this company is risking a potential loss of revenue in order
to be on the bleeding edge of new trends. If there is any sort of public backlash over the

You you you you must look at that! There was a a I craned my head towards where Eleanor pointed, but I couldn t catch a glimpse of what made her so excited. I turned my head back to watch the road carefully, annoyed by her sudden outburst. She continued to stutter, overwhelmed with astonishment, P P Peter, we should turn around! Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My husband has written much about how much of an inspiration you are to him and his fellow troops... Moving closer to Eleanor, I read the letter over her shoulder. 13th, March, 1941 Even though the letter was from the 1940s, and there were many documentations of that time, my mind was filled with awe of the historical relevance these letters could hold. These letters could be a gateway to tens or hundreds of minds of women and men who have personal experience with World War II. These letters were an entryway into the lives of those who had gone through years and years of strife, of conflict. These letters give insight into the lost shadows of people from the past, letting us forever memorialize and treasure their memories. I shout, completely disregarding the goat, who lurches with fright, and flees into the thin trees in the distance. We must gather these notes! Eleanor looks up with wide eyes, and nods jerkily in response. Stooping along the sides of the road, we maniacally collect tens, and later hundreds of letters filled with personal accounts of the past, which framed at least a small part of this world to what it finally evolved into. We are so lucky. Afterwards, a run back to my car, and grabbing a plastic bag which I fill my letters, I feel alive. 1912! 1937! 1897! Eleanor screams out ecstatically. • 3. Social Commentary On A Sprawls How do I start reviewing a film like this? I mostly just felt very stifled with the rambunctious quips that flow in this film like a breeze and fill it up to the very brim. Its social commentary is analogous to the indomitably obnoxious teenage angst profiled rampantly that is ever so pervasive in this day and age. Things to note after a thoroughgoing watch of this are that it s simply not quite your standard typified internalized drama that sprawls incessantly and instead conjures a very pleasant, a somewhat weirdly endearing troupe of personages that you can t help but appreciate because they re so oddly realistic. And it s not just the empirical, ostensibly exhaustive plot and technicality matters that get to you, but the very renditions themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problems that are entangled in the film s root aren t so prevalent and can easily be ignored, but the film feels a tad overlong in what it is trying to accomplish. Granted, somewhat interesting story underpinned by stellar performances while witty, incisive banter abounds in among frames, but the arduousness has its say later on. I feel what s so good about this film lies in the fact that it s simply not trying to cross the line and re invent the wheel, but merely give the viewer a comfortable and darkly comical short of two hours time frame; and unsurprisingly succeeds because it has those bits on a string. It s not rousing by any means, and neither is it contemplative or despondent because of its affairs it could have well been that but instead prances in uncanny valley territory due to its bravura in making the most of comicality, however glum or repulsive it might ... When disobeying peacefully, one disagrees with the current regulations, but does so in a fashion that is not disruptive. Civil disobedience does result in tension and further disputes in the community. But these are not for long. Eventually, civil disobedience results in the way the people wanted it to. This is proven by examples from history and today. The Boston Tea Party, which happened on December 16, 1773, was an act of protest to the Tea Act, which had been passed by the British Parliament. In this act of civil disobedience, colonists disguised as Native Americans emptied out entire crates of tea into the Boston Harbor. After this event, there was even more tension and ... Instead, they were kept in their vehicles until their male guardians arrived, at which point the women were released after signing pledges not to drive again. At least 35 women drove on Saudi streets that Saturday, filming and uploading their videos on to YouTube. This action does not have a happy ending like the two previous circumstances; the government of Saudi Arabia still does not allow women to drive. However, from the women s actions, the Saudi government got a wake up call. Society is now showing that it wants women to be driving. Essay on Christian Metaphors and Movies About War Religion in Pop Culture Final Essay Platoon, directed by Oliver Stone, and Saving Private Ryan, directed by Steven Spielberg, are two movies flush with Christian Symbolism. Both films feature scripture, Platoon opens with it, and in Saving Private Ryan, there is a character that often quotes scripture. While there are some similarities between the two movies, like having a Christ Figure, and a conflict between good and evil, there are metaphors that make the films different from one another. Platoon features more complex metaphors, and focuses on a power struggle between two characters that represent good and evil. The Allied Forces become the good, because they begin to liberate other countries, and people from Axis control. The power struggle between the good forces and the evil forces becomes the backdrop for Captain Miller s Mission. The General, who gives Miller his orders, could represent God, being as he is his world is considered law. By extension, Millers mission represents God s will. Captain Miller eventually becomes the Christ figure in the movie, leading the mission to its conclusion (Madvig). Millers mission is to save the lost Private Ryan. Miller and his men must return the lost Ryan to his home . Ryan can be a symbol that represents anyone who could be struggling with faith, or anyone who could be struggling against evil, thus being lost. Home symbolizes different things, but in Christianity, returning home can mean going to Heaven to live alongside Jesus, or finding faith, or finding Jesus. Ryan is lost in the middle of war torn France, in the middle of the giant conflict between good and evil. As the movie progresses we see other religious situations, and religious characters. Private Jackson (Barry Pepper) is the team s sniper, and a good example. Jackson is as a Christian who wears a cross around his neck, and recites scripture before he takes down a target. How Did Palladio Influence Architecture Palladio s influence on architects and recognition Architectural community as well as public sees Palladio s work as attractive mainly because of the sheer beauty of his architecture. Beauty that does not have to be explained nor justified. Palladio is often labelled as the most influential architect in history mainly due to his dominance in architectural development from Renaissance until present day (Scruton, 2013). Many tried to directly imitate his work however only Palladio could benefit from prestige on a scale he has received, mostly because he was the first European architect who worked out many variations on a basic theme to build separate structures and on his own. It s about tight and tidy synthesis whilst using workable and logical grammar. There are ongoing discussions on what the rules may be as he only ever described a few, but nonetheless they imply he had an extraordinary mind. Like many influential artists, Palladio has measured, calculated, mirrored and counted to execute perfection (Tavernor, 2005). Palladio s plans and facades are hypothesised to be ideal, harmonic. This ideal is reached by an assembly of ideal shapes and dimensions, whilst taking into an account that some numbers are more noble in Renaissance than others (Hersey and Freedman, 1992). He used mathematical tools as devices whilst working on his designs. In order to appreciate his work fully, the concept of symmetry and proportion is to be viewed as the key to understanding. Palladio s work was inspired by Roman times, although build with nature in mind. The buildings are regarded as an exercise in pure form rather than models of themselves, they fulfilled and embodied the ideal and harmony of the magnificence own to upper class. The high class life in Palladio s buildings became a standard and was not viewed as anything peculiar or out of place. The reason why this way of life was widely accepted was that Italy in 16th century was not spiritual nor moral, it was political and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Challenges Of Movement And Improvisation Movement and Improvisation requires one to articulate his or her thoughts so that anything, no matter whether it s an emotion, an object, a situation, an action, a reaction, or any other thing that comes to mind, can be expressed as a movement, no matter how weird or wonderful the movement turns out to be. When I was first introduced to Movement and Improvisation when I entered SOTA, I felt very self consious as I did not know if I was doing it right , or if others were judging me. However, after being able to participate in improvisation classes with Mr Sascia, Giselle, Nicole, Cherie and Su Nin, I was able to really focus on myself and my surroundings, and not lose focus no matter what circumstances. Another challenge I faced was that I was not able to react to music well, such as Mr Sascia s percussion. When we were told to improvise according to Mr Sascia s music, I felt a sense of hesitation, which led to myself not really applying the music into my movements. However after a few classes with Mr Sascia, I learnt to be more attentive to the music and listen until the music completely comes to a stop. There are some things in life that people have to do whether they want to or not. Throughout many different places many people have to go do this on a daily basis. Lots of men usually do not want to be involved. It is usually left for the women to take over. There are very many types of shoppers that people deal with on a daily basis, they are different in many ways such as, children, young adults, and senior citizens. By all means, shopping can be difficult for children for many reasons. To start, they are very impatient. They do not want to wait for their parents to get done shopping, whatever they want they expect to get it now.. When checking out at the register everything is in their reach. They are then grabbing things and throwing that in the cart as well. Also, it is difficult with children shopping because sometimes they can be combative. If a child does not get what they want then they will most of the time throw themselves down and have a tantrum. It makes the parents look so bad, as well as the child who is acting out. It is not good to be combative because then someone may get hurt. After all, children shoppers do not care how much anything cost. They will just pick any and everything up and place ... • 10. Barack Obama s Story Analysis Barack Obama s story is a story that has been infused into his genetic foundation, the idea that his nation is greater than the sum of it. The parts which are many, they are just one. Obama believes that we can t work out the challenges of our time unless we come together as one and unite to solve them . We all want a better future for our children and grandchildren and unless we perfect the union by understanding that we all have many different stories, each one is unique. But one thing that everyone do have in common is hope, which can t give up on. Obama s belief comes from his dense faith and generosity of the American people. Barack was born in Hawaii in 1961. His mother and father come from two completely different places. His father is from Kenya and his mother is from Kansas. His father being black and his mother white. From this we can assume that he has family from all different races, which makes him a very diverse person. He is married to a woman who carries the blood of a slave and a slave owner, whose genes also carried down to their two daughters. He wants to carry down the diversity to all the people in America because race is a big issue that the nation cannot afford to be ignored. Obama said that if we do ignore it, we will be making the same mistake as the Reverend. Which was to break down, discriminate and intensify the negative to the point that it twists the reality. We, the nation, have not yet worked through the complexities of race which is a part of the union which we still have to perfect. If we walk away from these complexities that we have to perfect, we will never be able to unite and solve the problems. For example, healthcare or education. Reverend Wright and Obama s relationship has been through a lot. The reverend has helped Obama become part of the Christian faith and he was the man who spoke to him about the obligations to love another which Obama was really strong about in his presidency. Reverend was the one who tended to the sick and pick up the poor. He helped serve his country in the Marines. Wright has studied and lectured at some of the best universities and seminaries in the country. Who over thirty years led a church who houses the homeless, ministers the ... Anyone with extensive knowledge on The Great War could probably give a list of copious causations, among those being nationalistic tendencies, the alliance system, paranoia, and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. World War I was primarily sparked through the assassination, with underlying tones of nationalism, alliances, and paranoia fueling the fire. Nationalistic ego on part of Europe as a whole boiled Ferdinand s assassination into action, pushing Europe into war. [Serbia] has done nothing to suppress these[rebellious] movements (Doc 3). Austria Hungary had no compassion to the thoughts of the Serbian citizens while they ruled over them, only thinking of more territory they could dominate, and in turn, terrorist groups like The Black Hand, sprouted and eventually were successful in their mission. • 17. Tuberculosis Is A Disease Caused By The Bacteria Tubercle... Introduction: Tuberculosis is a disease caused by the bacteria tubercle bacilli (NSW Health 2014). It is one of mankind s oldest infections and has plagued humans throughout recorded and archaeological history (Encyclopaedia Britannica 2014). Tuberculosis comes in an infectious and disease form. The infectious form is the result of contraction of TB bacteria that remains dormant and is neither symptomatic nor contagious. The disease form of TB is caused by active TB bacteria and results in the contagious and fatal tuberculosis disease. History of Tuberculosis Tubercle bacilli emerged as a pathogen from East Africa, and as people migrated so did the disease. Tuberculosis lesions contain acid fast bacilli which have been found in Egyptian and Peruvian mummies (Schlossberg page 97). From these findings, historians and microbiologists have concluded that mycobacterium is millions of years old. Physiology of mycobacterium: Tubercle bacilli is a type of mycobacterium. Its prototrophic, metabolically flexible membrane (US National Library of Medicine 2008) enables it to metabolize and reproduce without specific substances, increasing its speed of replication and infection. The tubercle bacilli s rod shape enables it to withstand a combination of selective pressures (Kerseik K 2013), including nutrient access and predation. Nutrient absorption is maximised by the cell s ability to match increases in cell size by increasing its cell length. This maintains its high surface ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many might instantly quote the most conspicuous features. But one aspect of great influence in building systems ranging from an actuator to a jet is the hidden technology (as stated by Prof. Richard Murray) being controls. The future of mechanical engineering, when I envision it, is a world of smart, efficient mechanical systems: self driving cars, autonomous robots, intelligent manufacturing lines and smart energy grids. The ability of Control theory to manage and regulate behavior of systems in multiple domains of Mechanical Engineering is appealing to me. It supplements my tendency to be versatile. With a desire to learn advanced concepts in control theory and to apply them to a real world problem, I want to pursue a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Controls. An exploration into IC engines in my sophomore year, helped me secure an internship at Ashok Leyland R D center. First, there is the claim that the soul is made up of basic forms. Second, the fact that we are born with certain innate knowledge proves that the knowledge is eternal. Third, people generally agree the soul is different from the body. Fourth, the soul is by definition living and thus can t die in any meaningful way. At the end of the dialogue, Socrates is executed by poison hemlock. Phaedo was right by his side until his death. Phaedo said that , although I was witnessing the death of someone who was my friend, I had no feeling of pity, for the man appeared happy both in manner and words, as he died nobly and without fear (p. 212). • 26. The Patriarchal Power Structure Of Households Essay Fathers and mothers in households today continue to partake in a gendered, asymmetrical division of labour. Mothers still contribute more to household labour even though today s father contribute more than fathers of the past. The discrepancy is because gendered norms to do with paid and unpaid work continue to prevail in both policy and social attitudes. The patriarchal power structure of households is linked back to the nuclear family being idyllic with mothers completing all unpaid labour and fathers providing in the financial sense. Since the 1970s, Western society has moved away from the nuclear family structure with rigidly gendered roles toward an egalitarian household set up. Part of this shift was women moving into paid work and another part was men slightly increasing their contribution to unpaid labour in the household. Despite the increase labour women contribute to provide financially for the household, splitting that burden with their husbands, men have not increased their contributions to household duties to the same extent. Newer representations of father s contributions to childcare and housework are idealisations not actual representations of experience. The Bronze David By Donatello Of The Early Renaissance The Bronze David by Donatello of the Early Renaissance shows a subtle transition through style and form to the High Renaissance when compared to the marble David by Michelangelo. Donatello s David embodies the humanism and classicism of the Italian Renaissance, and pioneers styles that would influence a generation. The perfection of David by Michelangelo creates a similar allusion to humanism and classical form while indicating Donatello s lasting influence and inserting neoplatonic ideas of the High Renaissance. Through his Bronze David, 1430, Donatello documents a biblical character in a form that captures the ideals of the Italian Renaissance. The five foot and two inch piece recreates the moment after the human hero David slays Goliath whose head lies at his feet. The structure, Figure 1, not only celebrates the use of human wit and potential, but David s nudity emphasizes the human body s physical grace. In addition, the figure s bareness is accentuated by the calf length boots and large hat. The use of the free standing style allows the human form to be appreciated at every angle. In the novel, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson, Larsson writes in a thought provoking and all around different caricature in the form of Lisbeth Salander. Lisbeth is the secondary protagonist in the novel and is a terrific character at that. Unlike some of the other characters, she connects effectively to the overall theme of the novel. The Virginian professor takes a stance on the problems that he has both experienced in his own classroom and observed on campuses, and he approaches each problem in turn, making significant claims which are assigned appropriate blames. His essay, Liberal Arts Lite Entertainment, originally published in 1997, is broken into six sections and begins with his experience at his own university before branching out to all those across the country. Following this is a deduction of student culture as well as professors. He gives hope to the idea of the acceptance and praising of genius (as opposed to the alienation students endorse so well) towards the end of his essay, narrowing his argument down to a more specific change that could possibly cause a domino effect from individual students to universities across America. The scale of the situation is much too large to be easily fixed, and it is clear that Edmundson s purpose in writing this essay is to inform those who are engulfed in the academic world. More specifically, it seems, he targets professors and higher level students, and even possibly their parents. • 43. Bronze Bow Quotes Matthew 1:44 says, But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 1:44). This verse means that God wants us to love and pray for our enemies, not to hate them. This verse is also true in a lot of different books like The Bronze Bow. In the novel The Bronze Bow, by Elizabeth George Speare, the theme Love can overcome Hate is shown by Samson, Jesus, and Simon to Daniel. First, Samson displays love to Daniel in many distinctive ways. He works in Rosh s camp for Daniel by carrying water to the camp, hunting for food, and keeping Daniel s kiln going (Pg. 29 31). Also, Samson cares for Daniel by sleeping by him and protecting him (Pg. 34 35). Most of all, Samson surrenders his own life to save Daniel and his friends to rescue Joel instead of staying safe and protecting himself (Pg. 207 210). Above all, Samson did all these things for Daniel to recompense him for what Daniel did for him. Daniel freed Samson from his chains and Samson saw that Daniel was the one who saved him, not Rosh (Pg. 14). Samson feels like he must commit to do all that he can to ... Also, Simon explains certain parts of Jesus teaching that can relate to his life to Daniel like, He says that the only chains that matter are fear and hate because they chain our souls. (Pg. 244). And, Simon informs and shows Daniel that he needs to put his faith and hope in Jesus so that he can have eternal life forever by how it affects his own life (Pg. 242 244). • 45. The Holocaust Memories Adolf Hitler s rise to power grew out of issues left unresolved by the earlier conflict during World War I. Resentment and harsh terms imposed by the Versailles Treaty only fueled Hitler s revenge, which would result in the largest blood bath the world has ever come to see. World War II would be considered the deadliest war in history, murdering millions of civilians. In 1939, Adolf Hitler invaded Poland resulting in a deadly six year battle until the final allied defeat of both Nazi Germany and Japan in 1945. In August 1939, Hitler and Joseph Stalin signed the Germany Soviet Nonaggression Pact. The Nonaggression pact meant that Hitler would get assistance from the soviets if he invaded Poland. In 1941, Germans started to transport the people they believed were the least useful from the ghettos to the concentration camps. Many of these people were sick, old and very young. On March 17, 1942, the first gassings began at the camp of Belzec. From then, five more mass killing centers were built at camps in Poland. Between 1942 and 1945, Jews were taken to the camps from all over Europe. In Warsaw ghetto, 300,000 Jews were taken and placed into a camp and at Auschwitz more than 2 million people were murdered. Within the labor camps, there was a large population of Jewish and non Jewish prisoners who were not only gassed, but thousands of others either died of disease or starvation. A large proportion of Hungary s Jewish population was taken to Auschwitz, killing as many as 12,000 Jews every day. The high amount of killings made this camp impossible to keep a secret. The mass killings that were occurring could not be kept behind closed doors for too long, eventually the world would find out what was going on and it would come to an end. By 1945, German leadership was dissolving and Hitler lost his power. In his last will and political testament, Hitler blamed the war on International Jewry and its helpers and urged the German leaders and people to follow the strict observance of the racial laws and with merciless resistance against the universal poisoners of all people the ... • 46. Why Federal Communication Commission Has Legal Authority... Alaina Case Professor Powers Final Paper JOUR 3060 Due Date: 4 May 2015 Section I In order to understand why Federal Communication Commission has legal authority to regulate media ownership and should be allowed to continue to regulate media ownership, you must first know the statues that gave way to the regulation. The FCC was created by the Communications Act of 1934. The Communications Act of 1934 replaced the Radio Act of 1927, and the FCC superseded the FRC (Federal Radio Commission). This act called for the government to regulate in the public interest and foreign communications by radio and wire. The FCC can be traced back to the Wireless Ship Act of 1910. The Wireless Ship Act of 1910 required large ships to have wireless equipment and radio operators on board...made it illegal not to retransmit or answer wireless transmissions from ships. This law was the first U.S. regulation on devices that used electromagnetic spectrum. The Chain Broadcasting Rules, was the first national ownership limit passed by the FCC in 1941. These rules regulated major national radio networks, in relation to local stations. These regulations also included a structural ownership rule limiting a radio network from owning more than one broadcast station within a market area, reflecting the Commission s earlier presumption that a single entity holding more than one broadcast license in the same community contravened the public interest. This idea was upheld in the Supreme Court ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The First Sermon Essay Buddhist art, like most kinds of art, cannot be reduced to a specific set of visual characteristics. However, within a certain time period and region, there are recurring details in many Buddhist works of art. The First Sermon (2ndc 3rdc: Gandhara), which depicts Buddha delivering his first sermon, is no exception to this fact. The design and visual characteristics of The First Sermon serve as clear evidence that the work was created during the rule of the Kushan empire, specifically in Gandhara. Additionally, those same characteristics suggest that the piece was most likely used for adornment of a temple or other structure rather than for individual worship. The First Sermon shares many of the same details seen in other Kushan era artworks that came out of Gandhara. The most notable aspect that stands out is the work s heavy Greek influence. When speaking of Buddhist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The piece is originally part of a panel, which would likely include other scenes as part of a larger story. Even inside the particular scene, the Buddha is not alone but instead is surrounded by other figures, which further suggests that it was not meant for worship. As Behrendt and Brancaccio state in their text, when the purpose is worship, the Buddha is usually presented as independent (Behrendt and Brancaccio 19). Finally, the small size of the piece indicates that it was not intended for any sort of adoration. With merely 32cm x 27cm in size, the work does not compare to larger and more detailed works that could adequately be used for worship. In conclusion, The First Sermon helps as further evidence and guidance towards fully understanding the history of Buddhist art. Although it does not display any particularly unique features, the piece of art serves to strengthen concepts of South Asian art as well as its uses in everyday ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. The Moral Of Moral Agents Moral Agents The moral agents in this situation are the parents, the children, and the application developer. The parents are faced with the awkward situation of using the application to track their kids for a multitude of reasons. One of the most apparent reasons would be to use the application with the intent of knowing who their children are interacting with and possibly where they go when they are out of the house. The children do have some possible choices to make regarding this supposed invasion of privacy with varying degrees of moral standing. They could look into using applications that mask their activity or employ the less moral route of removing the software entirely. Finally, the developer himself is in control of the entire scenario since it all hangs on his choice of going forward with the development of the application. After all, if he just refuses to take part in the project and takes the consequences that follow such a choice, he is removed from the discussion entirely. What is at stake? Who/What are the stakeholders? The most obvious stakeholder is the company that develops the application. This company has to balance financial longevity with maintaining a moral and legal standing in society. The primary goal of any software company is to make money and by creating a controversial piece of software, this company is risking a potential loss of revenue in order to be on the bleeding edge of new trends.
