After discovering that Golden Dancer was all shine, and no substance, Henry
Drummond learned to not trust ideas and objects that are perfect seeming because
they are often superficial (Lawrence and Lee 68). Golden Dancer s deceitfulness
illustrated that it is necessary to question concepts to reveal the truth. In Jerome
Lawrence and Robert E. Lee s Inherit the Wind Drummond and Bertram Cates
disregarded society s morals for the truth and Drummond and Rachael Brown
accepted and considered different beliefs, and these actions demonstrated the
importance of searching for truth.
Drummond and Bertram Cates considered society s standards to be less important
than finding what is true. During the trial, Drummond explained that the idea of right

After listening to the case, Brown stated that she read the Darwin book and does not
want to think that men come from apes; however, that is beside the point (Lawrence
and Lee 76). Brown always desired to believe the teachings of the Bible, but she
demonstrated the exploring the truth is more important than her previous comforting
ideals by challenging her religious beliefs to consider Darwinism. Drummond s
openness to all possible sources of truth, showed that factual information is more
important its source. After the death of Brady, Drummond grabbed both the orange
Darwin and the Bible and balanced equally with his hands (Lawrence and Lee 79).
Drummond defended the teaching of evolution, but he considered the Bible equal to
evolution. Drummond s respect for both teachings demonstrated that finding truth is
more important that where it originate from. Even though the majority of the people
in Hillsboro considered religion the perfect belief, Drummond, Brown, and Cates
showed the importance of exploring for the truth by being open to other beliefs.
Religion in Hillsboro was like Golden dance because it seemed ideal. Hillsboro s
religious beliefs, however, were questioned because Cates and Drummond wanted

3. Jane Miller s Purpose For Running For The Election
To win any election, it is paramount to have selected some vital themes that
addresses the needs of one s demographic party. It has to be fully outlined in such a
way that it ll present and outline Jane Miller s purpose for running for the election.
There are several political topics in Texas as of today but some important and strong
ones include: More government regulation of immigration laws, Taxes and abortion.
Jane needs to prioritize this issues and present them in a clear and concise way to
make a clear conservative Republican stand point. Accurately planning a strategic
foresight to enhance the voting outcomes of regions and populations will demonstrate
positive outcomes for this candidate.

Also being a pro active entrepreneur, Jane can practically show how small and large
businesses can thrive in a tax friendly environment, thereby winning the heart of
conservative Texans. The campaign theme will help paint Jane as a committed
conservative Republican, which is out to reduce government spending. It could thus
lead to a decrease in national debt.
Also proposing incentives for small businesses and reduced taxes for the rest of the
population, she is most likely to get the Republican votes. The fact that various
regions of Texashave varied economic status, the issue of taxation for the working
class will need to be tailored for each affected region and to be delivered with caution
(Newell, Prinde, Riddleperger, 2013).
Abortion is a highly discussed issue nationwide, even among different ethnic groups
as it tends to affect all. The initial abortion bill indicates that medical providers to
provide abortion only at the facilities that are fully equipped to carry out the
procedures. This is in fact protecting the right of the Texans women and also
reducing the numbers of abortion facilities that are all over the state. This in part is
also continuing in the culture that builds the foundations of the state of Texas. She
could also use the issue of abortion as an excellent entry point to discuss women and
healthcare. This controversial issue affects all Texans as a whole and therefore not

Assess the validity of this statement, using the documents and your knowledge of

Why? Because...I think...our people [should move there]! The author of
Document E obviously believed in the idea of manifest destiny because he wants
to see people in San Francisco, which is in California. The manifest destiny idea
helped encourage people to have more pride in their nation, which allowed them to
expand from the East coast of America to the West. However, not every idea of
expansionism was happy. Others people wanted to expand America because of
fear. In Document F it states, None can fail to see the danger to our safety and
future peace if Texas remains an independent state, or becomes an ally or
dependency of some foreign nation more powerful than herself. After Texas won
its independence from Mexico in 1835, Texas could not cede the American Union
because it needed to enter America with a free state (a state with no slavery)
because of the Missouri Compromise (the Missouri Compromise was passed in
1820 in which stated that there would be no slavery in the Louisiana Territory
above the 36th parallel). Since there were no other states to enter with Texas,
Texas had to remain as an independent state for about ten years (1835 1845). During
that time, people urged for a state to enter as a free state with Texas because, since
Texas was not a part of America, it could do whatever it wanted. Things like joining
a different nation or starting a war with America were options that were available for
Texas. That is why many
5. Leadership Styles As A Public Administrator Essay
Introduction
This paper will discuss various aspects of a public leader. First, it will develop a brief
overview of two leaders and their leadership styles as a public administrator. Next,
this paper will compare and contrast the leadership styles of these two leaders. Also,
it will determine three leadership strengths and weaknesses of each of these leaders,
as well as speculate on the effectiveness of each public leader in terms of each of
their successes. Finally, this paper will suggest one key strength that could influence
one s ability to be a public leader.
Examples of Charismatic Leaders
A fine example of a charismatic leader as a public administrator is Napoleon
Bonaparte. As an officer in the French army, he was smart, aggressive and fearless,
and inspired great loyalty in just about anyone he encountered. Additionally, his
success was based on his instinctive knowledge of human behavior, the most
prominent of which was his ability to show appreciation to those who helped him
succeed through a rewards system. Furthermore, he realized it was imperative to win
the trust of those he was not leading to bolster their support. An avid speaker, he
would inform citizens in the country in which he was invading that he was not
against them, but rather against their tyrannical leaders. Eventually, Bonaparte s ego
got the best of him, and he lost the respect he had garnered over years, ending up
exiled to the island of St. Helena (McManus, n.d., p. 2). Clearly,

Framers intended this branch of the military to work in it s beginnings. the
National Guard was originally made up of citizens serving on a part time bases

In the short story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, the author reminds us how
government limits the powers of the people. Vonnegut s portrayal of mistreatment and
endangerment is satirical. Today, mistreatment in the government is still continuous

10. Pricing Strategy Associated With Services
1.Pricing strategy associated with services is typically more complex than the
pricing of tangible goods. As a consumer, what pricing issues do you consider
when purchasing services? How difficult is it to compare prices among competing
services, or to determine the complete price of the service before purchase? What
could service providers do to solve these issues? Consumers pay attention to many
different factors when determining to purchase a service. One of the major
factors is the quantity of the service. When deciding on which carrier to sign a
contract of service in the mobile phone industry there are two major companies.
The two major companies are AT T and Verizon Wireless. The consumers that live
in a major city will just look at the deals that each carrier is providing since both
carriers have excellent service in their area. The consumers that live out in the
country or in small towns will look at a different factor. These consumers will
determine which carrier provides the best service in their area. There are parts of
Alabama that AT T s service is very bad and consumers have no service to make
phone calls or send messages via their mobile phone. The same location some of
the Verizon consumers have full service and no problem making calls or sending
messages. It is the same as the other way around in other parts of Alabama. The
consumer must make a decision on how often they are in certain areas to determine
which carrier will provide the best service for

Jaffe et al. (2002:146) argues that IRR is the most important alternative to the NPV
approach , because it is independent of the prevailing capital market interest rate in
its attempt to resolve an internal (or intrinsic) rate that is dependent only on the
cash flows from the project. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) Importantly, IRR is a
method for determining value that does not depend on the determination of a
discount rate. This method requires the calculation of a discount rate such that the
discounted value of future cost benefit flows exactly equals the initial investment.
Dean (1951 in Smith, 1986:8) recommends that the company make investment
decisions by looking to the capital markets for the firm s cost of capital, accepting
each project with an internal rate of return and exceeds this market determined
cost of capital . As such, to apply the IRR reference must be made to the discount
rate in order to arrive at a decision. Theoretically, the NPV and IRR techniques
arrive at the same investment decision and an investor can be indifferent as to
which method is used. NPV is positive for discount rates below the IRR and
negative for projects above the IRR. As such, the IRR rule coincides with the NPV
rule and if a company accepts projects when the discount rate is less then the IRR,

14. Organisms of the African Savanna Essay
THE MEERKAT
(Suricata suricatta)
The meerkat , otherwise known as the suricate, is a small, furry member of the
Mongoose family (Herpestidae) that can stand upright. The creatures have round,
fluffy bellies with smaller, more slender limbs. Their snouts are small and pointed,
coming to a sharp tip at the animal s black nose. It lives in the African Savanna
grasslands in groups of twenty five to fifty. These groups are called mobs or manors.
The female meerkat gives birth to two to five pups at a time, which are born hairless
and unable to see. The life expectancy for these pups is about twelve to fourteen
years. The creatures live in close knit webs of intertwining tunnels located
underground in the sandy, Savanna soil. The tunnels ... Show more content on

One interesting adaptation of the meerkat is its astonishing immunity to spider
and scorpion venoms. This allows it to eat a multitude of spiders and scorpions,
thereby keeping the populations of these Arachnida in check. Another adaptation
is the meerkat s sharp, non retractable claws perfect for foraging and digging in the
sand. While keeping watch, meerkats must stare into the bright Savanna sun for
extended periods of time; the creatures have developed dark circles around their
eyes to minimize glare. The eyes themselves are frontward facing and offer superb
peripheral vision, allowing the meerkat to easily detect predators. Meerkats tails are
very strong; the animals use them for balance while standing. They act as a sort of
third leg . While digging, the meerkat is able to completely close its ears to keep out
sand and debris.
Blending in is the meerkat s specialty. Their tawny fur with silver sheen provides
excellent camouflage given their sandy habitat, which glistens in the sun. In
addition, meerkats band together to confuse and scare off predators, forming one,
massive, furry beast. Each meerkat fluffs up its fur and hisses, creating quite a
fearsome spectacle. It is hard for a predator to pick out an individual meerkat when
the whole group is so tightly packed together.
Currently the meerkat population is at a stable 500,000. Living limiting factors to the
meerkat population include eagles, hawks, and foxes.
15. The Townshend Act
In 1767 saw a series of other measures containing contradictory factors. Charles
Townshend, the British finance minister, has been trying to build a new fiscal
program after repeatedly protesting heavy taxation in the country. With the intention
of tax cuts for the British by imposing a more radical tax on the US trade, Charles
Townshend tightened tariffs and imposed import duties on the colonies when
importing items. British as paper, glass, lead and tea. The Townshend Act was made
with the argument that taxes on imported goods of the colonies were legal, but
domestic taxes (such as stamp duty) were not legal. The Townshend Act was enacted
to increase revenue, in part for the care of colonial officials and the maintenance of
British forces
16. As a Designer
I must say that I was a little less than enthralled about receiving a project, which
required me to hunt down and interrogate an established designer to the point of
annoyance. After reading the circulated example and seeing that, the author Chris
Metcalf, started with the same viewpoint. I began to be swayed to the same train of
thought, which had enlightened Chris. A sudden and drastic change in my thoughts
leads me to see that this is, hopefully, my final year as a student designer. The final
year, in which I can ask the questions, delve into, what is commonly believed to be,
general knowledge within the design field.
Immediately I sought to find a designer whom I could interview. Making a list of

people interact with our products... ) as this one sentence made me realise I am the
quiet little voice that tells the user to hold the product like this or tilt it that way or
put the powder here. The intrinsic little conscience of a product is my thoughts
and aspirations for the product. These followed through from my thoughts through
my pencil into the final prototype and finally embedded in every one of product
units manufactured. The product may not be a direct extension of me but perhaps
more closely a child of personal progressions and growing pains as a designer. My
thoughts on this topic lead me down a very long and winding path where I
eventually end up realising. Designers have a lot of power in how a product is used
and interacted with by users. Everyone now knows after watching that one movie
with great power comes great responsibility .
Joe s viewpoint on working is almost a complete flip in thought, complexity and

Just what is The Matrix? This is the question that the extremely entertaining and
absurdly thought provoking movie The Matrix, by The Wachowski Brothers,
hopes to answer. How can we know that WE don t live in the Matrix? That is the
question that the movie hopes that we can answer for ourselves. The movie opens
with the apparent double life of Thomas Anderson. Thomas Anderson works a

hacker known by the name of Neo. He is contacted one day by the team of the

Not the movie the Matrix, but the Matrix in the movie, The Matrix. The Matrix is
pulls on the problem of perception. Humans are grown in fields, harvested, and then
their brains are hooked up to a machine that simulated life while their energy is
harvested. The problem is however, when your senses are being perfectly spoofed
and you are in a near perfect simulation of the world you will not know that you are
not living the real life. The movie makes some interesting parallels to the idea of
dreams. We have all had those dreams that seemed very real when they happened,
only to wake up the next day and think about how ridiculous they were. The idea of
the Matrix is to be close enough to the real world that the human mind doesn t catch
on. This raises an interesting question though. If the humans are really grown and
harvested and the Matrix is the only thing that they ever know, why did the Matrix
have to simulate the reality that did exist. Would it not be equally possible for the
simulated Matrix to be completely different in physical laws and color spectrum and
general makeup from the world that humans are accustomed too? The Matrix was
extremely successful, in my experience, with illustrating this problem that we have.
In the movie, there was someone there to clue the main character into the fact that he
was being deceived, and there was an easy way out the real world was but a phone

19. How Media Has Impacted Growing Up With A Measuring
Body Image
In this advertisement it shows a little girl measuring herself with a measuring tape.
By looking at this image, it already outlines that we as society relay on having the
perfect ideal women body, which is being thin and skinny. Society also implies that
valuing body image and perfection is significant that children at a very young age
are already influenced negatively growing up with a corrupted mindset. The little
girl in the photo is already measuring her waistline with a measuring tape at such a
young age. She is already feeling like she must be skinny to fit into society and is
conscious of her size, teaching her that she must look a certain way. The issue is that
in society the media has advertisements, commercials and magazines that portray
standards such as women being thin, tall and skinny. This according to the Western
countries is having the perfect body image. The media shows such unrealistic images
to consumers such as these young girls to try to appear like these ideals that are set
for them from society that potentially be harmful and unhealthy which could lead to
death because of starvation leading to possible long term health disorders such as
anorexia, bulimia nervosaand nervosa. My opinion on this issue is those who are
suffering with low self esteem shouldn t do such horrific acts like starvation or
dieting just to be accepted in society because they feel too fat or they do not meet
the societal standard of being perfect. Girls should relay on the ideal

However, in some cultures, the media play a role in preventing teenagers to confront
scenes related to sex. For example, some intimate scenes are censored in Arab TV
channels such as mbc4 and fox movies.
I believe that sex is a personal choice that one makes and it plays an important role in
self discovery and maturity. Sexual experimentation is good experience Bahij.
Curiosity and experience push teens into being intimate with their partners, in that
way they believe that they could have a much better understanding when talking
about relationship. Sure they been hearing about all the risks or STDs pregnancy... but
what is it really like? That is what both boys and girls want to discover and
experience. Unfortunately, it is known that few teens have bad intentions since
they are pressed to do something that they are not legally allowed to do. Part of it is
to feel bad by breaking the law; it is a sort of a rebellion move for them.
Teenage sexuality has risen and has become a standard phenomenal in societies.
However, there are still some major problems that derive from this issue.
These days, the task of teaching moral values has become increasingly difficult in
today s materialistic, saturated society. Most parents have the difficult job of
preparing their children for conflict
21. Trauma On Personality Development
General Overview
There is a need to examine the literature to grasp a better understanding how trauma
can impact the development of personality disorders, as well as how people who
have personality disorders respond to trauma. However, research on Posttraumatic
Stress Disorder (PTSD) comorbidity has usually been retrospective and focused
mainly on the prevalence of other primary psychiatric (Axis I) diagnoses and not
personality disorders (Axis 2) (according to the DSM IV), even over ten years later
(Dunn, Yanasak, Schillaci, Simotas, Rehm, Souchek, Hamilton, 2004; Bollinger,
Riggs, Blake, Ruzek, 2000). The purpose of our project is to examine how trauma

In 1949 Alfred Jones created the first hedge fund in the United States with $100,000
and a strategy to off set the riskiness of holding long position in stocks by shorting
other stocks. Since then hedge funds have grown to control over $2.4 trillion in
assets in over 11,000 different funds. Today hedge funds employ many different
techniques and strategies to gain a positive return that actually do not involve
hedging but instead taking a more risky stance in the market to obtain higher returns.
Hedge funds are predominately funded by wealthy investors and pensions but does
this mean that they are a safe investment to make? If I had the ability to invest in a
hedge fund I would decline to do so. My reasoning for this is that while some risky
investors believe the high risk high return, lack of regulation, illiquidity, and fees
associated are the advantages of hedge funds that allow them to generate high returns,
from a conservative investor viewpoint these are all disadvantages and risks that aren
t compensated for making investments in hedge funds an unwise decision.
The first advantage or disadvantage depending on your viewpoint is the high risk and
high return associated with hedge funds. Hedge funds allow investors opportunities

23. Hacking Is An Illegal Activity
Definition of Hacking
Hacking is an illegal activity that expert computer programmers do in order to access
someone else s personal data or information without permission. These people have
developed skills to dominate and break through the software. They called themselves
hackers. Some hackers consider hacking as an art. In addition, Hackers usually use
the computer and the Internet to hack into the software system remotely which means
they can do it even if they live in entirely different regions. Hacking has threatened
the security of all people, companies and governments all over the world because
hacking can cause harmful consequences, such as the installation of malicious
software or damage the software (Merriam Webster), (What Is Computer Hacking).
The History of Hacking
The term of hacking was first used in the 1960s by Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT) which is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In fact, at that
time, many people misunderstood the idea of hacking as the development of the
computer software functions. Up until 1980, hacking was not as common as it is
nowadays. Hackers have been developing methods to get into holes which are both
gaps in the firewalls and entry points into software systems (either local or remote).
When hacking started, the motivation for it was based on curiosity. The hackers
wanted to explore how they could improve the system. Hackers thought hacking was
useful to create solutions which made life easier for all

Executive Summary: The procedure of HR planning starts with strategies and
objectives of the organization and the two important assessments of HR needs and
supply are internal and external sources which must be done and forecasts developed.
The three important factors for the process of HR planning are supply analysis,
supply and demandbalancing demand for labour. When a company strategy and
objectives are perfect, then they can expect the demand and supply with some of
their methods. . Internal supply of labour exactly means the empty post or the job
filled by the employee who already gained the entry and it may be as promotion or

It actually means recruiting the employee s from outside of the company who aren

trained in particular job to be done in the company. The process used to bond human
resource issues to the company s business needs is called human resource planning.
From the above discussion both internal and external supply of labor plays a crucial
role in human resource planning to be effective and accurate.
Introduction:
The procedure of HR planning starts with strategies and objectives of the
organization and the two important assessments of HR needs and supply are internal
and external sources which must be done and forecasts developed. The important
factors of assessing the internal resources are having exact information of the
organisation. When all these assessments are completed, then forecasts should be
developed to know the differences between internal and external demand and supply
of HR management. An organisation should have different kinds of plans, such as
departmental level, company level job level. There will be different HR planning for
small and risk factor organisations compared to a well established one. The success of
the organisation depends on the manpower planning, and these

From the assigned reading it becomes clear that there are a number of symptoms
which suggest that beverage manufacturer and distributer Cerjugo SA is a
company in crisis. The main signal that Cerjugo is not living up to its expectations
is that its forecasted sales and profit targets, for its juice division, have not been met
for two consecutive years this is especially troubling for a company which in the
past boasted a 98% share of the beer market in Latin America. Beyond the lack luster
sales numbers there are many other symptoms that Cerjugo s juice division is ailing,
such as reports that potential customers are not aware of the ... Show more content on

All four of the managerial positions which answer to Guzman are highly qualified for
their position and the tall hierarchy structure of the company appears to hinder their
ability to work well as a team.
There were also reports of a generally unsatisfied and unproductive sales force, the
root cause of this is a lack of job specialisation. The sales force is organized
geographically with each employee controlling their own territory, however, each
employee is responsible for selling both beer and juice within that region.
Furthermore, most of the sales staff where already employed by Cerjugo before
the acquisition of the juice business, accordingly despite being trained to sell juice
as well, the sales force is more experienced and comfortable selling Beer and this
has bred a lack of motivation to gain the expertise necessary to successfully sell juice
to their clients.
Analysis of Root Cause amp; Consequent Recommendations
Although these problems seem expansive and varied in nature a few changes to
the corporate culture will likely remedy all of these complications. On the sales
side job enrichment is of key importance, a necessary step towards this is having the
sales force divided into two market segments, beer and juice. With each employee
controlling a small set of clients who they will get to build a relationship with, a

Barn Burning Critical Essay In William Faulkner s Barn Burning, the audience gets
a glimpse of the ongoing trouble between a son and his father. The son, Sarty, must
decide what is best for himself instead of standing up for his father s wrong choices.
The father, Abner, is a jealous, unforgiving, unapologetic, and disrespectful man.
However, Sarty overcomes the negative actions and rises against his family to do
what it truly right. The theme of this story is that the right thing is to always stand
up for the right thing. Doing the right thing is proof of coming of age, and
showing maturity. Since the beginning, Sarty knew his father wasn t treating
people fairly. Sarty states, Maybe he will feel it too. Maybe it will even change
him now from what maybe he couldn t help but be (Faulkner 20). The quote is
stated as Sarty and Abner make their way to the de Spain house. Sarty is hoping his
father had learned his lesson from ruining the rug and will do the right thing this
time around. Abner never learns his lesson and believes the men in the family
should act like him. Proving this statement, Abner says, You got to learn to stick to
your own blood (Faulkner 42). Although Abner believes Sarty is following in his
footsteps, Sarty is more mature than he is and hates doing the things his father
makes him do. For example, Abner expects Sarty to lie about his testimony. Sarty
states, He aims for me to lie ... And I will have to do hit (Faulkner 57). Sarty is not
the only one who knows his father is up to no good, Major de Spain also sees it.
Major de Spain explains, He aims for me to lie ... And I will have to do hit
(Faulkner 64). Although Major de Spain is not on Abner s side, Abner s family is.
Sarty s brother tries to stop Sarty from telling on Abner by yelling, Better tie him to
the bedpost (Faulkner 74)! Again, Sarty is very determined to do the right thing,
and save Major de Spain s barn by commenting to his own mother, Lemme go! ... I
don t want to have to hit you (Faulkner 87)! At the end of the story, Sarty eventually
goes against his family and walks into the woods away from everyone. This is a huge
symbol because it demonstrates Sarty

Sucker Punch Gameplay Engineer Questions
Question 1
Imagine that you re designing a new attack for an enemy in a melee focused third
person action game. Just to choose a random example, let s say it s a Minotaur in a
God of War style game. What factors do you consider when designing the attack, and
how do you prioritize these factors?
Basic factors about the attack:
1.Area: The area in which the attack could potentially fall upon
2.Duration: The duration of the attack
3.Frequency: How often this attack is used
4.Range: The maximum distance the attack can reach
5.Size: The area of effect of the attack
6.Damage: Damage per attack
7.Effects: Extra properties of attack, like poison or slow effect
8.Cooldown: How long does it take to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the attack speed will be compared to player s movement speed, and
attack area will be compared to the size of the fighting room.
Among these factors, the most important one should be Dogdgeability. Like in the
famous action game Dark Souls, bosses and enemies attack damage is usually quite
high and cause players to die a lot. However, the game still makes players think it is
fair, because a lot of attacks are dodgeable by skillful players. If the attack cannot be
dodged systematically, we will be limited when adjusting other factors of the attack,
because the players will always receive damage from the attack. As a result, the
attack cannot be too strong, and the game will be less exciting. On the other hand,
if the attack can be dogdged, we can make it as strong as we like and with all kinds
of effects. This increases the feeling of achievement when player successfully dodged
it.
After we design how it could be dodged, we can measure by playtesting how
difficult it is to dodge the attack. After that, we can assign the damage inversely
proportional to the rate of successful dodge. In summary, we could prioritize the
factors by groups as following:
(Dodgeability: Area, Duration, Range, Size, Subattack Counts, Preparation, Room
Coverage, Smartness, Movement) (Frequency, Damage, Effects, Cooldown,
Animation) (Properties, Environment Destruction)
We could further prioritize the factors in dodgeability group as follows.
First we could decide (Area,

multiple countries and his experiences there on his search for happiness. He searches
from the unhappiest countries to the happiest countries to find how geography affects
the happinessof the people that live there. His search often has interesting clashes
between philosophical and scientific viewpoints on happiness.
In the Netherlands he encounters an interesting point when he meets scholars of the

He goes there to see if the people there can actually buy their happiness which the
readers should already know is not true since the WDH already said that money

and by extension it s identity. Eric starts to believe that Qatar is happy with all of
their money. Eric then finds that sadness can strike even the super rich when he
learns of the sick child of a citizen there. With this he brings in the new theory that to
be happy, one must experience sadness first.
Qatar is a rare and interesting case since it s so closed off from the rest of the
world. This isolation means that it has very little diversity which would have led to
a nice topic about how it affects happiness. He could ve made the argument that the

All that matters is that we come to show our pride to the church and God. Showing
pride towards a group or club is one way to define pride, but you can also define pride
as the pride someone gives to its own country.
^Another way pride could be defined as would be the pride someone shows to its
own country. This definition of pride shows is very true to all the men and women
that serve in our armed forces because they are fighting for their own country. For
instance, my dad has been in the Air Force for 22+ years and has been involved in
war efforts for the last 11 years showing his pride that has for the United States
fighting for our freedom. My father and a countless number of other men and
women risk their lives daily by doing what they would want to and what they love
most, and that would be fighting for the freedom of others. Think of all the people
risking their lives to give people that they will not even meet face to face a free
country. Showing pride towards ones country is something I find very important.
There are many different ways to show pride within your country. Celebrating the
Fourth of July annually is one way that we Americans show our pride to our country
knowing that on this day hundreds of years ago we signed The Declaration of

She furthers uses an image like the missing pine trees, which are a symbol of
immortality, to bring to life the understanding that death has arrived. When Rhys
uses cold the reader and the character herself realize the meaning of the journey
death. The introduction of cold allows the reader to understand that the journey
has come to an end and is irreversible. Character also builds theme in a story.
According to our text when looking at how characters shape theme you should ask
how do characters make a particular aspect of the underlying area clear? (Clugston,
R 2010) This is a good place to start when looking at Rhys story. The author used
the characters thoughts and feeling to unfold the symbols in the story. The author
also did not give a physical description on the woman, this adds to furthering the
theme of the journey in the story. The woman is no longer a live and therefore she
doesn t need a body. It is clear from the symbols pointed out by the woman that she

40. Gold Rush In California
Thomas Fuller once said we never know the worth of water till the well is dry
(Fuller). As a species we need water to cook, clean, and most importantly live. With
water being a natural resource overuse and misuses of it can cause its supply to
rapidly dwindle down, and that s exactly what s happening in Californiaright now.
California s water comes a married of places such as aquifers, groundwater, surface
water, rivers, reservoirs, dams and irrigation systems where 80% of that water goes
towards agriculture and 20% to urban/residential use. California s water supply is so
substandard that the state can t even say their predicament is a drought, but it can be
classified as a crisis. And to add insult to injury the states infrastructure has... Show

In 1906 President Roosevelt had granted the city a permit to divert water from the
Owens River Valley [which was a fairly new] reservoir [located] in the San

permitted dam construction. The Raker Act did disclose that selling any electrical
power that was generated from the dam to any corporation or individual (Wells

dam did generate was sold to the utilities company of Pacific Gas and Electric (PG

42. The Russian Revolutions of 1917 Essay
The Russian Revolutions of 1917 There were two revolutions that occurred in Russia
in 1917. The first one, in February, overthrew the Russian monarchy. The second one,
in October, created the world s first Communist state.
The Russian revolutions of 1917 involved a series of uprisings by workers and
peasants throughout the country and by soldiers, who were predominantly of
peasant origin, in the Russian army. Many of the uprisings were organized and led
by democratically elected councils called soviets. The soviets originated as strike
committees and were basically a form of local self government.
The second revolution led to the rise of the modern Communist movement and to the

Known as the October Revolution or the Bolshevik Revolution, it was led by a group
of revolutionary socialists called Bolsheviks. It brushed aside the Provisional
Government. The Bolsheviks hoped that their revolution would result in more
fundamental changes to carry out socialist revolutions.
The Provisional Government was made up of liberal leaders, and as well as some
moderate socialists. The Prime minister, Lvov, was a wealthy landowner, who
favored an immediate constitutional monarchy and ultimately a republic. Lvov was
the outstanding personality in the Provisional Government. The most famous of the
moderate socialists was Aleksndr Kerensky, the minister of justice. The collapse of
the tsarist regime thus left in its wake two centers of political authority: (1) the
traditional politicians of the Provisional Government, who had little control over
the people, and (2) the democratically elected soviets, which exercised more
political power owing to support from the great majority of workers and soldiers.
This system of dual power proved to be unstable. The instability grew as the
moderate politicians proved increasingly unable to meet the rising expectations of the
laboring masses. The Provisional Government declared an end to tsarist repression
and established full civil liberties. It also promised early democratic elections, which
would decide the

When viewing art, an observer often has to delve deeper to understand the hidden
meaning. However, the photograph of Tank Man is quite the opposite. With this
photograph it is as easy, if not easier, to understand the deeper meaning as it is to
understand the presentational aspects. The photograph of the Tank Manwas taken in
the Tiananmen Squarein China. During this time, there was a pro democracy
movement led by student protesters. On June 4, these protests were violently
suppressed, leading to hundreds of deaths. A day after, on June 5, 1989, this
photograph was taken. While the identity and the fate of the Tank Man remains
unknown, he has been given names such as the Unknown Rebel and the Unknown
Protester. The photographer, Jeff Widener, was tasked with documenting the
Tiananmen crackdown. He took the photograph from his hotel room a half a mile
away from the scene. This iconic photograph was taken by a fluke during a time of
much uproar.
The photograph was taken with very little modifications and was for the most part a
snapshot. In the photograph there are four Chinese military tanks lined up headed
toward the same direction. The tanks are a green camouflage color. All the tanks have
a red star on them. Each of the tanks has an antenna sticking high up from them.
There is a lone man wearing a white shirt and black pants standing in front of them,
blocking their path. The tanks and the man are standing on a concrete street. The
street has white lines on it,

In The Nazi Seizure of Power by William Sheridan Allen, the author is able to show
the reader the support building strategy used by the Nazi party in Northeim and
surrounding areas. Allen s thesis is that Nazi party was able to succeed the village
of Northeim and else where because they were able to reach out the lower and
middle class. Since these classes held the majority of the population, the Nazi party
discovered what they wanted from government officials and then used that to
persuade these classes to vote for them. To give you a background of the village of
Northeim is vital to the understanding of how this party could have come in and take

political parties. Many Northeimers of the working class, usually the lower class

different working class organizations. Some examples of these organizations were
the Workers Funeral Savings Association or the Householders Consumers

way of life for the working class. If you were not apart of the Socialist then you

would give the Nazi and Nationalist party its greatest support. Throughout the course
of the early 1930 s, the Nazi political party began to really rally support in the town
of Northeim. At the end of the 1920 s the Nazi party only received 123 votes but in
1932 the numbers had climbed to 4200 votes. The Nazi party was great at focusing

Being born of a German immigrant, Sylvia Plath shares an eye opening poem right
before she ended her life in 1963. On October 12th, 1962, Plath wrote a poem called
Daddy. In this poem, she portrays a speaker that expresses numerous feelings of hate
and fear. Though most might think this word actually means father, in German daddy
means oh you . Nevertheless, this poem relates to a person or father. After reading
further, one might notice that she references Natzi s and Jew s, and uses many
comparisons to explain her feelings and the type of person this individual was. The
speaker in this story presents that she is captured in a life that she never thought she
would live through. Not only does she feel she is less important in the eyes of
another person, it leaves an everlasting effect on her life. The most unequivocal
message is hatred in SylviaPlath s poem Daddy to emphasize the hardships and
challenges she goes through.

A memory has different ways to function that varies from one person to another.
The memory itself is defined as the faculty by which the mind stores and
remembers information. Trauma is something else that can be attached to a
memory and it is defined as a deeply distressing or disturbing experience. Memory
plays a tremendous role in our lives as well as in our society. A memory can
prevent us from making mistakes as well as it can haunt us to the point of
breakdown. Are all memories worth to be reminded of? In Regeneration by Pat
Barker as well as in The IMIGRANTS by W.G. Sebald we see a flow of narratives
that underline traumatic memories. On this paper, we will focus our attention on
Billy Prior, one of the characters in Regeneration, and Ambros Adelwarth of The
Emigrants who are somehow fighting their memories.
Billy Prior and Ambros Adelwarth both represent a strong problem of memory, they
both have a clear memory of their past, but sharing them is one of the problems in
the first place. Let begin by talking about Billy Prior, a conflicted and complicated
character being a soldier who had had a difficult life, both at war and at home as he
mentions to Rivers about the front: Look, you might like to think it s one big
happy family out there, but it s not (Regeneration, pg. 53). His experience in the
army was not as happy as he had imagined it could be since he believed that he did
not really fit in his previous job as a clerk in a shipping office, but that he would
49. Face Of Nature In The Birds By Daphne Du Maurier
Nature is a powerful yet underestimated force. Humans depend on the weather to
see if they need to dress warm or dress lightly. What if they weather for today
dramatically changed so much that you were so unprepared, there would be a
chance of death? In The Birds, Daphne Du Maurier uses imagery and foreshadowing
to present the idea that people are helpless in the face of nature.
British author, Daphne Du Maurier implements the writing tool of foreshadowing
and creative word choice to develop the feeling of helplessness and imminent
danger in her 1963 novella, The Birds . In the beginning of the Novella, Du
Maurier includes words that create a sense of fear. She describes the sudden
change of season as Black winter had descended in a single night . The word black,
gives the reader a sense of anxiety, like one would feel in the absence of light.
Winter leaves the reader with a feeling of death and the fact that winter descended
in a single night leads the reader to believe that something unusual, evil and sinister
is about to happen. Du Maurier s word choice helps foreshadow events that follow
later in the story. She develops these ominous mental images, starting with season.
She describes the wind and other weather related elements. Du Maurier uses
foreshadowing words and phrases to hint to the reader that more bird attacks are yet
to come, He shut the window and went back to bed, but feeling his knuckles wet, put
his mouth to the scratch. The bird had drawn blood . The

As a student of psychology I have read about this procedure a few times during my

surgical intervention to change another person s mood, thoughts, or behavior. This
procedure was coined the frontal lobotomy. The procedure involved cutting the major

century. The original procedure, also known as a leucotomy, involved an injection of

Domestication of Bananas and Plantain (Musa spp.)
Abstract
Bananas and plantains (Musa spp.) are one of the major staple foods in the world. In
2006 the estimated world production of bananas was 80.6 million tons while 16.8
tons were traded (Cohen, 2011). Although bananas are common today, the origins of
the banana are complex and occurred over thousands of years during multiple stages.
Archeologists focused on the Kuk Valley of New Guininea, the area where the
domestication of bananas supposedly took place around 8,000 BCE (Before
Common Era) (Bot, 2007). The study of banana history has been difficult because
banana pollen and seeds were rare or absent at archaeological sites. It wasn t until
recent technologies and the use of multi disciplinary research that we could gain a
better understanding. Genetics and linguistic studies also help in understanding the
banana origin (Hirst, 2015). Diploid and triploid forms of bananas have been
identified and their distribution throughout the world is a key piece of evidence in
unlocking the truth about banana domestication.
Introduction
The banana (Musa spp.) is a large perennial herb with leaf sheaths that form their
pseudostems, meaning they are rather giant herbs than trees. Both the plantain and
banana are sterile and parthenocarpic so the fruit is seedless. The plant is made up
of 8 12 leaves that are about 9ft tall and 2ft wide (Chia and Huggins, 1992). Bananas
are considered the

What is a CPU?
The CPU is housed in the motherboard is considered the heart of the computer, it
controls everything. CPU stands for central processing unit; it is one of the main
components of a computer. The CPU or more commonly known as the processor is
electronic circuitry which follows the instructions of the hardware and software on
the computer, it effectively is a very efficient calculator carrying out arithmetic,
logical, control and input/output operations. The processor receives the
instructions from the operating system takes the information from the software
and hardware then gives instructions to the processor, in simple terms the processor
in one cycle fetches an instruction then decodes the instruction and finally executes
the instruction when this is done it returns to the original step of fetching a new
instruction. The processor has a number of cores ranging usually from 1 to 8 in
domestic computers though with advancements in technology this number is sure
to rise. For every core it can perform a process, so if it is a quad core processor it can
carry out four processes simultaneously , so generally the more cores the more
powerful a processor is considered. Intel has hyperthreading on its new range of
processors so when an application on one thread stalls or needs to get info from the

The clock speed regulates the rate of instructions that are executed and synchronizes
all the other components. The clock can carry out more instructions per second the
faster it is, though because of the processor s architecture (how it s designed) two
processors running at the same clock speed may not necessarily perform equally. An
older processor may have the same clock speed as a brand new one but because of
its architecture the newer processor may complete an instruction 20 cycles faster than
the old
54. The Allisons In The Summer People By Shirley Jackson
The prompt I have chosen is, In the story The Summer People, The Allisons believe
that the locals (the Country People) are harassing them because of their decision to
stay at the cottage past Labor Day. Do you believe the locals are actually doing this
or do you believe the Allisons are simply paranoid and imagining this? Please
respond in a concise, well written three paragraph essay with specific examples and
textual evidence from the text to support your answer.
In Shirley Jackson s short story, The SummerPeople the Allisons decided to stay at
their summer cottage past labor day. This decision, however may not have been for
the best. After making this decision the Allisons began to become paranoid as
things started to not go their way. First of all the townspeople began to question
them as to why they wanted to stay. They informed them that no one had ever stayed
past Labor Day. The Allisons also had to deal with the fact they could no longer buy
kerosene or have their groceries delivered as they had during the summer months.
They also received an interesting letter from their son that left them feeling confused
and a bit concerned because it did not sound like their son s writing. Lastly they had
things in their house that were braking such as their phone. Their car also had
somehow broken and was no longer functioning. All of these occurrences startled the
Allison. They couldn t understand how they had been able to live so peacefully in
their cottage all summer
