Face Off
简介
Face/Off is a 1997 action film directed by John Woo, starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. The
two both play an FBI agent and a terrorist, sworn enemies who assume the physical appearance of one
another.
内容
The film exemplifies gun fu and heroic bloodshed action sequences, and has Travolta and Cage each
playing two personalities. It was the first Hollywood film in which Woo was given complete creative
control and was acclaimed by both audiences and critics. Eventually grossing $245 million worldwide,
Face/Off was a financial success, as well as Woo s highest grossing American film.
Freelance terrorist Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage) is relentlessly pursued by FBI Special Agent Sean
Archer (John Travolta). Years earlier, Castor, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To Woo s credit, he doesn t stick strictly to action. Face/Off is only in overdrive for about two thirds of
its running length. The rest of the movie is devoted to such mundane tasks and plot exposition,
character and relationship development, and ruminations on philosophical issues like identity. While
there s very little of the latter (certainly not enough to turn off viewers who don t like their action
leavened with anything intellectual), there is enough to give Face/Off an interesting subtext. How
much of who we are is determined by our physical appearance? And, if we re given the face of
another, how like that person are we likely to become? These issues aren t explored too deeply, but, to
Woo s credit (and to that of the screenplay, by Mike Werb amp; Michael Colleary), they are addressed.
Such weighty questions are posed because the two main characters swap faces and identities. Sean
Archer (John Travolta) is a dedicated federal officer whose obsession with bringing down one
particular master criminal, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), has blinded him to all other concerns. Six
years ago, Troy s attempt to kill Archer went wrong, and Archer s young son was killed. Since then, a
thirst for revenge has driven the FBI agent to pursue Troy with a single minded relentlessness that has
alienated both his wife (Joan Allen) and his teenage daughter (Dominique Swain). When the latest

The Impact Of Federal Government On Aviation Development...
The answer to this capstone question will examine the role the Federal Government in the
development of aviation in the United States. The discussion will discuss the three ways in which the
Federal Government became involved in aviation development and cite an example in each of those
cases. The resulting effect on aviation development of such involvement will also be explored. Body
In examining the history of aviation in the U.S. and the development of the airlines, it is clear that the
Federal Government played a vital role in the development of both. Historical records clearly show
that this involvement by the Federal Government was critical in getting them established and in
helping to develop them into the globally dominant enterprises they are today. Furthermore, it can be
easily argued that U.S. aviation as a whole, and the airlines in particular, would not be where they are
today without this direct involvement by the Federal Government and some of the very specific
actions that it has taken to keep them relevant and competitive during the most dire of times. The
Federal Government ensured that U.S. aviation and its airlines would develop and achieve a
worldwide leadership role by becoming involved in three major ways: through funding, legislation,
and policy setting. As any person or organization involved in getting a product to market can attest to,
the endeavor involves a costly process that starts with acquiring the funds for research and

Leonora Sutter s Argument Essay Witness
Witness Argument Essay In the story witness the title gives away that there were things that people
saw heard and experienced, some know more than others and that s what makes the story interesting.
One person that witnessed the most was Leonora Sutter.
She was a 12 year old, African American who was engaged with what was happening around her.
Lenora was aware and knew what was going on, which was interesting to know because she is only
12. She knew that in her community there was a big problem with racism. As she quotes in the story, I
made a pie for Mr. Fields, I don t know if he could see me well enough to judge the color of my skin. I
don t know if my color mattered to him. (witness pg41) Leonora is feeling emotions that an adult

It makes you think about if she were to act, feel, and express her feelings in a different way than what
she did in the story, about what could possibly happen and how other characters would react. Leonora
was nice and caring, saying that if she wasn t the nice girl like she was in the story could ve gotten her
in a lot of trouble with the whites. She would ve said things she shouldn t have and did things that
would get herself or others hurt but luckily she was feeling and expressing smart emotions that helped
protect her. If she would have been arrogant she could have possibly said a rude comment to one of
the clan members and that would ve been the end of her. It is a good thing to stand up for yourself but
at this point in time if Leonora was to stand up for herself she could ve gotten in trouble or hurt,
because following along with the story the Klan members don t care about blacks and they won t put
up with anything that is not in their liking. When she got scared in the story she went and hid in the
closet away from the clansmen burning the cross, instead of telling anyone or telling them to go away,
which at the time it was a smart decision to stay back. (Witness pg. 54) Leonora also has a protective
trait which makes her a more helpful selfless person, if she wouldn t have been that way she wouldn t
have saved Esther from being hit by that train.

Emily Dickinson and Adrienne Rich Essay
Emily Dickinson and Adrienne Rich
The modernist period, stretching from the late 19th century to approximately 1960, is a very distinct
phase in the progression of American literature, employing the use of novel literary techniques which
stray away from the traditional literary styles observed in the time preceding the period. Modernist
writers explore new styles themes, and content in their compositions, encompassing issues ranging
from race (Kate Chopin) to gender (H.D.) to sexuality (James Baldwin), as well as many others. The
Modernist movement, however novel and unique, did not develop spontaneously. A few writers
leading up to the movement exhibit obvious modernist views in their writing. These include male
writers Ralph ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rich, a writer extremely interested in Emily Dickinson s life and poetry, was also deeply influenced
by her. Rich composed poems, essays, and criticism about Dickinson, borrowed lines from her poetry,
and even drew parallels between her own life and Dickinson s. Similarities between the two poets also
extended to style within their writing, as well as modernist themes that both advocate, especially
feminism. To understand the extent that Dickinson s modernist tendencies shine through in Adrienne
Rich s writings, it is important to first explore the impact Dickinson had on Rich s life and
compositions in general. It is no accident that Rich adapts styles and themes from Dickinson s poetry;
many parallels can be drawn between Dickinson s and Rich s life, including how she [like Dickinson]
set herself apart [from society s framework] in order to define her own emotional and social territory
(Martin, 171). Also, both writers revered and feared their fathers, even though both chose to pit
themselves in opposition to [their fathers], to live according to [their] own premises (Langdell, 166).
Although Rich states that she could not have lived her life the way Emily Dickinson does in her essay
Vesuvius at Home: the Power of Emily Dickinson (1975), she also admits that she has come to
understand her necessities [and] could have been a witness in her defense (Rich, 158). Rich admires
Dickinson, even calling some poems of her own mere imitations

The Warning Signs Of Abuse
Domestic Violence is a common pattern of aggressive behavior inside the family, typically between
intimate partners. This type of violence includes not only physical abuse but also sexual abuse,
psychological/emotional abuse, and financial abuse. According to the CDC on average, 20 people per
minute are victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in the United States. Over the course of
a year, that equals more than 10 million women and men ( The National ). In this paper, I will discuss
the warning signs of abuse, how the abuser justifies his actions, why victims stay in abusive
relationships, and how the victims can protect themselves. The first step is to recognize the warning
signs of abuse. There are a lot of signs of abuse like being humiliated in public, being called names
like stupid or bitch, being controlled in every way or being forced to have sex etc. Abusers don t show
the same violent behavior due to the fact that every relationship and person is different. However,
there is one thing that all abusers share and that is the need to impose their control over their victims,
this is the main purpose of domestic violence. It is also common for abuse to escalate very slowly,
making it difficult for the victim to become aware of how severe it has become, even though it is
patently obvious to those around him or her. In the abuser s mind, the violent behavior is completely
justifiable and they have several reasons to support their analysis. First the

Nintendo History Essay
Part I Gaming Console Industry Pre Xbox
Video gaming: A Brief History
Atari pioneered the video game industry in 1971 with a title called Pong, which was sold as an arcade
game for $1,200 each. The console market did not take off until 1977, when Atari 2600 was launched
(Lipson, 2009) and this became the first generation of consoles. In the videogame industry, consoles
are primarily stationary boxes , which require a monitor or television set for use. Known as consoles
or platforms, these devices are standardized computers tailored for gaming and produced by a single
firm. The term generations is meant to define chapters in the industry denoted by a series of console
launches with significant technology improvement compared to the previous launches (Exhibit 1).

However, Nintendo s lead was severely diminished in the fifth generation era, where it lost to Sony
due to its inability in adapting to the shift in gamer demographics. The average age of gamers had
gone up; however, Nintendo s image was still very much a kid friendly game console, allowing Sony
to capture most of the older gamers. Sales were down from 50M units in the Super NES console line
to 30M in the Nintendo 64 console line, Nintendo s product in the fifth generation. Nintendo was also
disadvantaged by its higher royalty charge to software developers, resulting in lower number of game
titles being produced. In the sixth generation, its product Nintendo GameCube continued to challenge
PlayStation 2 ( PS2 ) and eventually

Fairnelli Characteristics Of The Baroque Period
When thinking about the Baroque period, people tend to only associate it with instrumentalists and
composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, George Fredrich Handel and Antonio Vivaldi. However, in
addition to such instrumentalist and composers, there are some great vocalists who represent the
Baroque period but are not widely recognized today. Carlo Maria Michelangelo Nicola Broschi, who
is better know by his stage name, Farinelli, is an Italian vocalist of the 18th century and one of the
remarkable singers in the history of music. According to Charles Burney, an English music historian,
Fairnelli set off with such brilliancy and rapidity of execution that it was difficult for the violins of
those days to keep pace with him... [he] could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Fairnelli was still a student, his father died unexpectedly at the age of 36, which led his family
in great poverty. In order to maintain economic security and to become the greatest singer of all time,
Fairnelli decided to castrate. As a result, Farinelli was able to keep his powerful male voice that
allowed him to sing any range of voice parts in opera, including high pitched soprano parts. Shortly
after Farinelli s first few public performances, he became popular in many cities as a young talented
singer. In addition to singing, Farinelli was a harpsichordist and a composer. He composed several
cantatas and arias, including the famous piece, Ossequiosissimo ringraziamento, which he also wrote
the lyrics. Therefore, even though Farinelli focused on his vocal the most, he was a gifted musician in
all parts.
Just like most of the talented musicians who begin their careers at young age, Farinelli participated in
several professional stages when he was still only a teenager. At the age of fifteen, Farinelli made his
debut in Popora s Serenata, Angelica e Medoro, with two other professional Italian soprano singers,
Marianna Bulgarelli and Domerico Gizzi at the Royal chapel of Naples. Furthermore, at the age of
seventeen, he sang in Rome in Porpora s Flavio Anicio Olibrio. Farinelli was beloved by the audiences
for his pure and powerful voice with full of musical

And Symbolism In The Necklace, By Guy De Maupassant
Ten years lost on repaying debts, losing money, time, and her beauty; Guy De Maupassant illustrates
in his 1884 short story The Necklace, that self indulgence can cost more than intended. De
Maupassant uses irony and symbolism throughout this common tale of greed. He illustrates the main
character Mathilde Loisel, a very sad and selfish woman, never happy with things in her life, always
in search of finer, richer, and better possessions. Mathilde suffer[s] ceaselessly, feeling herself born to
enjoy all delicacies and all luxuries (para. 3). When her devoted husband provides all he can; even an
invitation to the ball at the palace, Mrs. Loisel is not content. She needs a new dress, and jewelry,
inevitably she borrows a diamond necklace, so she can pretend she is more and has more. She loses
the necklace, and then Mr. and Mrs. Loisel spend 10 years paying off the replacement; only to find out
the original is a fake. Mathilde is a very greedy and selfish woman, with the use of symbolism,
characterization, and social class; De Maupassant illustrates how these traits in human nature can cost
a person everything. She would have liked so much to please, to be envied to be charming, to be
sought after (5). Mathilde s character is always striving to have others see her outside of her reality, to
have someone think of her to be in a higher class of society. De Maupassant uses the class separation
to intensify Mathilde s desires versus reality. She often refers to not having

Women s Role For Women
The traditional family structure was, although headed and led by males, supplied and sustained by
females. Contributing members of society are expected to ear their keep, usually by working in some
form. The way in which women were allowed to ear their keep was in the home. The Labor Law
instituted in 1930 promised to liberate married women from the workshop and factory. Far from
liberating, it sought to ensure that women could remain in the home and fulfill the only purpose of
Christian marriage: reproduction. This regulation did not serve as protection, but merely assigns a
positive spin on the concept of limiting women s potential. Women made up a slim percentage of
those educated at the secondary level and therefore qualified for few professional positions, they did
dominate training for magisterio, elementary school teaching. This unusual statistic evidence that there
were indeed ways to seek employment, but even within there is a reminder of the types of roles in
which the women who were allowed to contribute could be placed. For women seeking work,
professional options were generally limited to becoming domestic servants, ticket sellers or office
workers, nurses, pharmacists, or teachers. Significant number of prostitutes remained though brothels
had been outlawed. The main draw to prostitution was the high income opportunity. Women needed to
gain the permission of many to begin a job, so this covert business was a tactic in which women could
circumvent

How Successful Were the Russian Governments in Promoting...
How successful were the Russian governments in promoting economic change and modernisation
between 1881 1904?
After the Crimean War (1854 56) the econmoy in Russia slowly begun to develop.
Alexander II set the development of a railwail bulding programm and a limited spread of factories.
But Russia s economy was still not as well developed as that in western Europe. So a real
industrialisation took of in the reign of Alexander III and the help of Nicholas II s finance minsters
Ivan Vyshnegradsky and Sergei Witte.
The main point of those developments, was imporoving Russia s finances and buliding up the gold
reserves.
For doing this Vyshnegradsky decided to increase the indirect taxes and mount a drive to swell grain

These investments went into mining, matal trades and mostly in oil industry and banking.Besids Witte
brought engeneers and managers from abroad and begun to develop the growth of the railways and the
importance of heavy industry with them. It was time an industrial revolution in Russia.
Russia begun to nationalise the railway companies in the 1880s. By 1905 nearly 66 percen of the
whole railway system was state owned. The most important railway line was the Trans Siberian
(building 1891 1902), which crossed Russia from west (St.Petersburg) to east ( Vladivostock). Those
new railway lines linked the major areas of industrial producion and those with markets or ports.
So building these railway lines also helped the development of the industries along their length.
The development of iron and coal industries in the area of Moskow, St. Petersburg, the Baltic coast and
the Ural Mountains to the east was heavily. This industrial growth helped Russia being the fourth
largest industrail economy in those times.
However there was more trade with grain than with industrial goods.
Even though the state budget more than doubled because of Witte s work , the dependece on loans
from abroad , which had to be paid back, should not fall in oblivion. Moreover Witte didn t aid the
local industries and the agricultural modernasation since he thought the peasant could just be forced

Speech On Importance Of Cosmetics
Importance of cosmetics
Cosmetics have been in use since ages for reconstructing the appearance of the person wearing them.
Beauty cosmetics can build a drastic change in a person s features, as they improve the best features
and cover the blemishes. People use creams and lotions to cleanse the skin deeply. This is not possible
with water and regular soap . Deep cleansing removes other underlying pollutants and opens the skin
pores . Blocked pores lead to the formation of acne and beauty cosmetics prevent this from occurring.
At the same time, we cannot remove some blemishes so easily. Dark spots and Blemishes are very
common on most people s skin. The use of makeup, such as a better concealer can effectively cover up
the flaw. This results in a skin, which looks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Effects Of Subpopulation On Polar Bears
A primary response to change is the ability of individuals to modify their behavior patterns relation to
spatial distribution and phenological shifts. However, for species living in environmental extremes,
they have little opportunity to regulate the climate warming changes to their physical environment and
must display plasticity in their key behaviors to cope with the changes. Polar bears face the dilemma
of remaining with ice that has retreated past biologically productive shallow waters or to move away
from the retreating sea ice to the shore which can lead to inadequate resources and exposure to risk
factors. There was an investigation on polar bears from Alaska s southern Beaufort Sea (SB)

Compare And Contrast The Leadership Style Of Staples
Leading. The different leadership styles within an organization determines the survival and successful
outcomes it will have. Staples tend to have more of a democratic leadership style within its
organization. Managers are in charge of their teams and operates using the hands on approach. Also at
times, the opinions of the employees are sought out, which in turn gives them a sense of responsibility
( Democratic leadership style, 2016). Additionally, employees are encouraged and even motivated to
take charge and show initiative in their work. Furthermore, managers cross train employees to support
the business needs and similarly uses it as an opportunity to help with employee growth within the
company. Correspondingly, having a democratic leadership style is presented as an internal strength.
Recently, Staples went through several leadership changes. Shortly after the failed merger with Office
Depot, Ron Sargent resigned as the chief executive officer. As a result, Shira Goodman was appointed
as the interim CEO, and then later on in September she officially took on the role of the CEO (Lange,
2016). Sargent and Goodman prove that Staples is a company that promotes from within, as they both

The New York Stock Market
Mentioned the words stock market to anyone in the United States and you are likely to get a vast array
of comments, from excitement over making lots of money, to anger of losing lots of money. Everyone
seems to have an opinion about the stock market, yet only about 50 percent of Americans are invested
in the stock market. A troubling aspect is that few individuals actually understand how the stock
market works. These individuals are taking a risk by investing in stocks that they do not truly
understand. An individual choosing to invest on their own, without the advice of a financial
professional, is like a person self diagnosing a major illness; the results could be devastating and
irreversible. To achieve financial success through investing in the stock market it is imperative that an
individual work with a financial professional who will help them properly state their goals and
objectives, design a properly allocated portfolio, determine their risk tolerance, and guide them in the
ongoing investing process. The New York Stock Exchange has been a part of the United States
financial landscape almost as long as the country has existed. Less than twenty years after the signing
of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the forefathers of the American dream started what would
become the most dominate stock exchange in the world. The history of the New York Stock Exchange

God s Faithfulness in the Old Testament Essay
Every author depicts information in light of purposes and themes. Sometimes these themes are moral
issues, emotions, or existential concepts. In the case of the Old Testament, the authors wrote books
that highlighted various ideas such as love, obedience, and suffering. Despite various subtopics, the
Old Testament clearly demonstrates the theme of God s faithfulness to his followers. To begin with,
God s faithfulness is displayed in the Pentateuch. One example is found in the opening chapters of
Genesis. Even though Adam and Eve disobeyed his command, God does not let sin prevent him from
being faithful. Instead, God enters the garden and asks the couple, Where are you? (Genesis 3:9) This
example displays the theme that God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without devotion to God, violence and death would flourish in Israel. These factors would impede
God s blessings of security and life; thus, the Mosaic covenant demonstrates the continual faithfulness
of God in the Old Testament. Finally, God is faithful to Israel during the people s complaints in the
desert. Rather than abandoning the nation for its faithlessness, God provides them will nourishment
and protection during their journey. These acts further reinforce the faithfulness of God, even when his
followers stray. In all, the Pentateuch demonstrates the theme of God s faithfulness. In addition to the
Pentateuch, the Old Testament books of the Deuteronomistic history reveal the theme of God s
faithfulness to his followers. Initial examples are found in the conquest of the Promised Land depicted
in the book of Joshua. Throughout the Israelite campaign to oust natives and settle the land, God s
actions demonstrate his faithfulness. In one instance God uses Rahab to hide Israelite spies, while in
several other situations he allows the Israelites to defeat its foes. From these actions, it is clear that
God remained faithful to his promise with Abraham (to provide his descendents with land). In addition
to Joshua, the book of Judges provides an example of God s faithfulness. Throughout the book, Israel
repeatedly is unfaithful to God and is conquered by foreign powers. In response to Israelite cries for
help, God repeatedly raises up

I Love Triangles Essay
While I am happy that she feels comfortable with me, I also feel awkward since I believe my mother
wants me to side with her whenever she makes difficult decisions concerning her relationships. Due to
the fact that she is my mother, I would support her no matter what decisions she makes concerning her
relationships. However, knowing details about her relationships is uncomfortable for me and often I
wish she would not share so much with me. Also, because she does share quite a bit with me,
sometimes I fear that my siblings are jealous of the coalition that has formed. My sisters will

that they feel hurt my mother does not share with them. Triangles As discussed previously, members

an issue that commonly arise in my family. Whenever there is tension between two family members, it
is normally resolved between the individuals. On occasion, when a conflict is proving difficult to

problem, and if there is a problem, they want to find a way to solve it. The quote is also the Ethos of
the article, because it shows the credibility. She knows a lot about how the psyche works on
individuals, by telling the audience the possible effects that materialism can have on children. The
author counters her argument with, Now, i m not saying to refrain from buying gifts for your loved

understands that gift giving isn t a bad thing, but individuals should do it in moderation, and not forget

Peasants During The High Middle Ages
Peasants in Manorial Villages vs. Townspeople. Life in the high middle ages, between 1000 and 1300
A.D., had two kinds of communities, manorial villages and towns. The major difference in these two
distinct types of communities was the freedom and rights of the people. In the manorial villages you
had lords who owned large portions of land. The vassals who entered into a military obligation with
the lords, in exchange for land and protection. Finally, serfs who were a class of people that worked
their lord s land as half slave and half freeman. Vassals were more of an employee and the serfs were
little more than a slave because they were bound to the lord s land. The serfs could not leave or do
anything without the lord s permission and most of the time they had to pay fees to be granted the
permissions they requested. In contrast the townspeople elected their officials, had freedom to choose
a careers, they move about where they liked, and could acquire training and schooling. Townspeople
were in fact free and not absolutely controlled by a lord. As for the manorial villages, the lords had all
the power and had absolute control over all the actions and work of the vassals and serfs. In manorial
villages the lords of the land would have vassals and serfs. A vassal was a voluntary obligation taken
so the vassal would be cared for. Although once one became a vassal this obligation would follow
through all the generations of the family. Serfs on the other hand

Critical Analysis of a Child s Reading
Reading is an essential skill in modern society. Not only does it enable people to access information, it
provides people with a great deal of pleasure. It is vital that primary schools equip children with
effective strategies for reading as well as foster a desire to read that will stay with them throughout
their lives.
This analysis of reading will firstly give a brief outline of the context of my school placement. It will
analyse two pupils as readers and their strategies.
The school s policy indicates that the context of teaching reading is very important suggesting a
variety of text styles. English amp; Williamson (2005) inform us that the introduction of the National
Literacy Strategy (DfES 2001) broadened the range of texts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We could improve this motivation to read by encouraging Pupil A to read regularly for pleasure.
Pupil B was chosen as although she receives literacy support, she does not enjoy reading. She has
accessed literacy support since starting at Primary school in Year 3 and has made considerable
progress and is able to read certain texts independently however she also shows little interest in
reading for pleasure.
She is willing to read with me, as she is used to reading with adults, in a 1 1 situation, and is
comfortable with me as I have been in her class for several weeks. She is reluctant to pick a book she
in unfamiliar with and cannot think of a favourite author/book when questioned.
Pupil B begins well, with her decoding strategies revealing her processing of a text but also her phonic
knowledge. She reads the word spider lings (line 8) correctly, by segmenting the word in her head
first. She then blends ling quietly, to herself, and then asks for reassurance to put both words together.
This is because this is an unusual, unknown word, and Pupil B is unfamiliar with the term. She
stumbles over the word different (line9). She did not segment the word out loud and so it is difficult to
determine which strategy she used to decode the word. Nevertheless, it is possible that Pupil B may
have used one of two strategies. For the first strategy, it s possible that she segmented and blended the

Mist And Saint Manuel, Martyr
La vida es sueño. Life is a dream. This theme, which explores the boundaries of reality, is featured in
two of Spanish writer Miguel de Unamuno s works, Mist and Saint Manuel, Martyr. Published during
the early twentieth century, both works contrast with the absolute realism of Unamuno s
contemporaries. They include elements such as simple characterization, magical realism, and
metafiction. In fact, to first classify Mist, Unamuno coined the nonsense word nivola, as opposed to
the Spanish novela, novel, and in doing so pioneered a new literary genre, of which Mist and Saint

Etruscans Vs Roman Architecture
The Romans retained many ideas about buildings from their Etruscan predecessors, but they also
absorbed some of the ideas of the Greek that were passed onto them by the Etruscans (Bleiberg,
2005). When looking back in time, the basic style of architecture that the Greek, Roman and Etruscans
used was different but also similar in a few ways such as techniques, materials, structures, etc. For
instance, when Roman architectures began to build their first temple of their time, they based the
structure off the Etruscans temple. Due to the fact that their structures promoted an openness to them
unlike the Greek temples. When looking at these styles closer, the Greek architecture was known for
their use of columns and colonnade, but the Roman architecture was known for their use of arches and
vaults. Then on the other hand the Etruscans were known for their high podiums, unfluted columns
and deep porches, unlike the Greeks that were known to build shallow porches and projecting walls.
The columns that the Etruscans used were spaced more apart since the structured were assumed to
have weighed less than other temples, such as the Greeks marble temples. The way the Roman s used

ETHICAL ISSUES IN ADVERTISMENT
INTRODUCTION
Advertisement is the one way persuasive communication with a purpose to promote goods or services
to potential customers. Advertisement is the backbone of commerce and industry and one of the
richest industries of the world. Advertisement has acquired an unprecedented importance due to
audiovisual means of information and entertainment. Due to this impact people became selective in
this segment, now they prefer better, healthier and convenient style of living. Everything has its other
side as well so not all the advertisements are right and ethical, few of them representing the darker
side. Thus, principles and morals in promotional activities ought to be broadly taught, understood well
by advertisers in order to influence public positively. This paper will reveal the information regarding
the latest Gucci ad banned by U.K. advertising standards authority (ASA).Moreover, the following
information will support ethics, importance of ethics in advertisement and how advertisement affect
on human brains. In advertisement the subjectivity of ethics is a very controversial and highly debated
issue. Every advertisement is designed to impress the viewers but the problem occurs when we allow
advertisers to access our mental world. Hence, censorship of ads and interference of ASA is
mandatory in advertisement.

Tax Reform Plan Essay
WASHINGTON Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives unveiled its tax overhaul
plan Thursday, which includes decreasing the number of personal income tax brackets, cutting the
corporate tax rate and the eventual elimination of the estate tax.
But opponents of the plan said working families would not benefit from the legislation, which would
also add to the country s deficit.
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act includes four individual tax brackets with rates 12 percent, 25 percent, 35
percent and 39.6 percent, which the highest tax bracket remaining the same from the current system.

West Virginia taxpayers deserve a tax cut so that they can keep more of their hard earned money, he
said. The plan released today will lower rates on taxpayers, including small businesses which are the
back bone of West Virginia s economy.
Rep. Evan Jenkins, R W.Va., said the plan will allow West Virginia businesses to grow and its
employees to also benefit.
Many West Virginians are struggling after our state s economic downturn, and they deserve to keep
more of what they earn, he said.
The Joint Committee on Taxation reported under the bill, the federal deficit would increase by more
than $1.48 trillion dollars over the next 10 years.
As soon as the ink is dry, you re going to get calls to let s cut Medicare, let s cut Medicaid, let s cut
education spending, said Chuck Marr, director of federal tax policy at the left leaning Center on
Budget and Policy Priorities.
The possible rise of the deficit is one issue Sen. Joe Manchin, D W.Va., has with the bill, noting how
the bill also put investors over workers.
None the less, I believe tax reform is something we must do, so in the coming days, I will do what
West Virginians do best, he said, bring people together and find common ground so that we can get
something done.
Marr said while the tax rate for high income earners will remain at 39.6 percent, they will ultimately
benefit from the bill because of the changes regarding the excise tax, corporate tax rate

A Replication of the Stroop Effect
A Replication of the Stroop Effect

Abstract
The Stroop (1935) effect is the inability to ignore a color word when the task is to report the ink color
of that word (i.e., to say green to the word RED in green ink). The present study investigated whether
object based processing contributes to the Stroop effect. According to this view, observers are unable
to ignore irrelevant features of an attended object (Kahneman Henik, 1981). In three experiments,
participants had to name the color of one of two superimposed rectangles and to ignore words that
appeared in the relevant object, in the irrelevant object, or in the background. The words were
congruent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An interesting challenge arises when a task such as color naming is identified as both controlled and
automatic, by varying the other task involved. Color naming is identified as a controlled process when
the other task is word reading, but as an automatic process when the other task is shape naming.
Cohen, Dunbar and McClelland (1990) proposed an alternative explanation of the Stroop effect, which
does not distinguish between automatic and controlled processing. Instead, they proposed that
automaticity is a range, and that Stroop interference depends on the relative degree of learning the
particular tasks, not on processing speed.
Attention is thought to be selective focused on one subject at a time. Traditionally, it has been assumed
that automatic processing is involuntary, it does not require attention, and is relatively fast; whereas,
controlled processing is voluntary, does require attention, and is relatively slow. We can conclude from
this that the more we repeat a certain material or tasks the more it becomes automatic and effortless to
us.
Methods
Design
The independent variable was represented by three conditions; three word lists printed in a variety of
color inks. Two of the lists consisted of word colors; one in black ink and the other in incongruent
colors. The third list consisted of square blocks in contrasting colors. The dependent variable was the
time taken to name the black ink words, the square block colors, and the color names in

Radical Personal Statement
Radical is a word that is generally associated with current abominable global events. But the word
radical, means change relating to or affecting the fundamental nature of something. When I first set
out my college passage, I was pursuing a degree in aerospace engineering in the state of Texas. This
required me to take heavy math and science classes allowing me to develop a unique way of
approaching problems and their respective solutions. When I was a child I never watched cartoons but
instead viewed documentaries, with a majority of them being related to the aerospace industry. I love
anything that flies; especially in space. When I made the choice to pursue aerospace engineering it
was not made lightly. I quickly started engaging in after school ... Show more content on

Economics teaches us that we live in a finite world with finite resources and therefore terraforming
other worlds is a necessity for us. I was contributing my life to something much greater than myself.
Throughout my engineering days, I developed a strong dislike for the world of business; I saw it
corrupt and detrimental to the overall progress of humanity. The concentration of wealth, incentives
for singular/small group behavior, and the probability for decisions to be based on the outcome of
short term gains as opposed to long term environmental gains. In short, I felt that business created a
division amongst people with their own self interest at hand and therefore suppressed the rate of
progression. One day the ground beneath me and the skies above me started to abruptly shift. I started
seeing a place for business in not only my life but the world. It was a process drawn out overtime, but
there was one significant day, in which I knew that to truly change the world you might just have to
change yourself. I was use to observing the physical and natural world around me, but I didn t have

Coca Col Transparency, The Formation Of Sustainability...
Coca Cola CSR Accountability Due to the vastly growing demand for organizational transparency, the
formation of sustainability indices has assisted prospective investors by serving as educational tools
and allowing them to confidently engage with companies who create a positive social and
environmental impact. These indices, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), evaluate and
measure some of the world s most profitable companies based on criteria such as economic, social,
and environmental efforts (ESG) (S P Dow Jones Indices, 2015). Additionally, the Global 100 is
comprised of organizations who generate a minimum of two billion U.S. dollars per year and have
been screened in four areas, including sustainability disclosure, F score (financial), product category,
and sanctions (Corporate Knights, 2015b). Consequently, Coca Cola has been able to secure a spot on
at least one index in the past two years due to their excellence in the criteria mentioned above. While
these indices provide an investor with an objective evaluation of a firm, an examination into company
s annual sustainability report can offer in depth look into their internal competencies as it relates to
their specific sustainability goals and current progress. Therefore, after a thorough analysis and
comparison of Coca Cola s Sustainability Report (2015) and the methodology for both indices, many
similarities and differences are depicted that highlight both the strengths and limitations of all three

Public Libraries Should Not Block Internet Pornography
Since the internet has been available in schools and libraries in this country, there has been a debate
about what should be accessible to users, especially minors. The amount of information disseminated
on the world wide web is vast, with some sources valuable for scholarly and personal research and
entertainment, and some sources that contain material that is objectionable to some (ie. pornography,
gambling, hate groups sites, violent materials). Some information potentially accessible on the internet
such as child pornography and obscenity is strictly illegal and is not protected under the First

Plaintiffs claimed that constitutionally protected materials were wrongly blocked and that the
Loudoun Policy violated their First Amendment rights. The court agreed and found the Loudoun
Policy of filtering for all patrons unconstitutional. The court held that there were less restrictive means
available to achieve the privacy level demanded by the Loudoun County community than interfering
with free speech. Less restrictive, in the court s opinion, were privacy screens for computer monitors
and a certain degree of physical monitoring by library staff.
Congress made an attempt to place content based restrictions on school and public library internet use
in the Children s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) of 2000. This act requires the use of some type of
internet filtering software for all public libraries that attain funds from the Federal government (in the
form of E rate discounts or Library Services and Technology Act grants). Should a library refuse to
comply with CIPA guidelines, that library would have to maintain its technological services without
the government discount or LSTA grants. Holding to the CIPA guidelines, both the E rate and LSTA
stipulate that filters may be disabled or legitimate sites unblocked by adults who request it, but it is
unclear whether libraries must provide for such disabling (Anten 79).
After CIPA was passed, it was immediately challenged by the

  • 2. Face Off 简介 Face/Off is a 1997 action film directed by John Woo, starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. The two both play an FBI agent and a terrorist, sworn enemies who assume the physical appearance of one another. 内容 The film exemplifies gun fu and heroic bloodshed action sequences, and has Travolta and Cage each playing two personalities. It was the first Hollywood film in which Woo was given complete creative control and was acclaimed by both audiences and critics. Eventually grossing $245 million worldwide, Face/Off was a financial success, as well as Woo s highest grossing American film. Freelance terrorist Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage) is relentlessly pursued by FBI Special Agent Sean Archer (John Travolta). Years earlier, Castor, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To Woo s credit, he doesn t stick strictly to action. Face/Off is only in overdrive for about two thirds of its running length. The rest of the movie is devoted to such mundane tasks and plot exposition, character and relationship development, and ruminations on philosophical issues like identity. While there s very little of the latter (certainly not enough to turn off viewers who don t like their action leavened with anything intellectual), there is enough to give Face/Off an interesting subtext. How much of who we are is determined by our physical appearance? And, if we re given the face of another, how like that person are we likely to become? These issues aren t explored too deeply, but, to Woo s credit (and to that of the screenplay, by Mike Werb amp; Michael Colleary), they are addressed. Such weighty questions are posed because the two main characters swap faces and identities. Sean Archer (John Travolta) is a dedicated federal officer whose obsession with bringing down one particular master criminal, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), has blinded him to all other concerns. Six years ago, Troy s attempt to kill Archer went wrong, and Archer s young son was killed. Since then, a thirst for revenge has driven the FBI agent to pursue Troy with a single minded relentlessness that has alienated both his wife (Joan Allen) and his teenage daughter (Dominique Swain). • 3. The Impact Of Federal Government On Aviation Development... The answer to this capstone question will examine the role the Federal Government in the development of aviation in the United States. The discussion will discuss the three ways in which the Federal Government became involved in aviation development and cite an example in each of those cases. The resulting effect on aviation development of such involvement will also be explored. Body In examining the history of aviation in the U.S. and the development of the airlines, it is clear that the Federal Government played a vital role in the development of both. Historical records clearly show that this involvement by the Federal Government was critical in getting them established and in helping to develop them into the globally dominant enterprises they are today. Furthermore, it can be easily argued that U.S. aviation as a whole, and the airlines in particular, would not be where they are today without this direct involvement by the Federal Government and some of the very specific actions that it has taken to keep them relevant and competitive during the most dire of times. The Federal Government ensured that U.S. aviation and its airlines would develop and achieve a worldwide leadership role by becoming involved in three major ways: through funding, legislation, and policy setting. As any person or organization involved in getting a product to market can attest to, the endeavor involves a costly process that starts with acquiring the funds for research and ... • 4. Leonora Sutter s Argument Essay Witness Witness Argument Essay In the story witness the title gives away that there were things that people saw heard and experienced, some know more than others and that s what makes the story interesting. One person that witnessed the most was Leonora Sutter. She was a 12 year old, African American who was engaged with what was happening around her. Lenora was aware and knew what was going on, which was interesting to know because she is only 12. She knew that in her community there was a big problem with racism. As she quotes in the story, I made a pie for Mr. Fields, I don t know if he could see me well enough to judge the color of my skin. I don t know if my color mattered to him. (witness pg41) Leonora is feeling emotions that an adult going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It makes you think about if she were to act, feel, and express her feelings in a different way than what she did in the story, about what could possibly happen and how other characters would react. Leonora was nice and caring, saying that if she wasn t the nice girl like she was in the story could ve gotten her in a lot of trouble with the whites. She would ve said things she shouldn t have and did things that would get herself or others hurt but luckily she was feeling and expressing smart emotions that helped protect her. If she would have been arrogant she could have possibly said a rude comment to one of the clan members and that would ve been the end of her. It is a good thing to stand up for yourself but at this point in time if Leonora was to stand up for herself she could ve gotten in trouble or hurt, because following along with the story the Klan members don t care about blacks and they won t put up with anything that is not in their liking. When she got scared in the story she went and hid in the closet away from the clansmen burning the cross, instead of telling anyone or telling them to go away, which at the time it was a smart decision to stay back. (Witness pg. 54) Leonora also has a protective trait which makes her a more helpful selfless person, if she wouldn t have been that way she wouldn t have saved Esther from being hit by that train. ... • 5. Emily Dickinson and Adrienne Rich Essay Emily Dickinson and Adrienne Rich The modernist period, stretching from the late 19th century to approximately 1960, is a very distinct phase in the progression of American literature, employing the use of novel literary techniques which stray away from the traditional literary styles observed in the time preceding the period. Modernist writers explore new styles themes, and content in their compositions, encompassing issues ranging from race (Kate Chopin) to gender (H.D.) to sexuality (James Baldwin), as well as many others. The Modernist movement, however novel and unique, did not develop spontaneously. A few writers leading up to the movement exhibit obvious modernist views in their writing. These include male writers Ralph ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rich, a writer extremely interested in Emily Dickinson s life and poetry, was also deeply influenced by her. Rich composed poems, essays, and criticism about Dickinson, borrowed lines from her poetry, and even drew parallels between her own life and Dickinson s. Similarities between the two poets also extended to style within their writing, as well as modernist themes that both advocate, especially feminism. To understand the extent that Dickinson s modernist tendencies shine through in Adrienne Rich s writings, it is important to first explore the impact Dickinson had on Rich s life and compositions in general. It is no accident that Rich adapts styles and themes from Dickinson s poetry; many parallels can be drawn between Dickinson s and Rich s life, including how she [like Dickinson] set herself apart [from society s framework] in order to define her own emotional and social territory (Martin, 171). Also, both writers revered and feared their fathers, even though both chose to pit themselves in opposition to [their fathers], to live according to [their] own premises (Langdell, 166). Although Rich states that she could not have lived her life the way Emily Dickinson does in her essay Vesuvius at Home: the Power of Emily Dickinson (1975), she also admits that she has come to understand her necessities [and] could have been a witness in her defense (Rich, 158). Rich admires Dickinson, even calling some poems of her own mere imitations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Warning Signs Of Abuse Domestic Violence is a common pattern of aggressive behavior inside the family, typically between intimate partners. This type of violence includes not only physical abuse but also sexual abuse, psychological/emotional abuse, and financial abuse. According to the CDC on average, 20 people per minute are victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in the United States. Over the course of a year, that equals more than 10 million women and men ( The National ). In this paper, I will discuss the warning signs of abuse, how the abuser justifies his actions, why victims stay in abusive relationships, and how the victims can protect themselves. The first step is to recognize the warning signs of abuse. There are a lot of signs of abuse like being humiliated in public, being called names like stupid or bitch, being controlled in every way or being forced to have sex etc. Abusers don t show the same violent behavior due to the fact that every relationship and person is different. However, there is one thing that all abusers share and that is the need to impose their control over their victims, this is the main purpose of domestic violence. It is also common for abuse to escalate very slowly, making it difficult for the victim to become aware of how severe it has become, even though it is patently obvious to those around him or her. In the abuser s mind, the violent behavior is completely justifiable and they have several reasons to support their analysis. First the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Nintendo History Essay Part I Gaming Console Industry Pre Xbox Video gaming: A Brief History Atari pioneered the video game industry in 1971 with a title called Pong, which was sold as an arcade game for $1,200 each. The console market did not take off until 1977, when Atari 2600 was launched (Lipson, 2009) and this became the first generation of consoles. In the videogame industry, consoles are primarily stationary boxes , which require a monitor or television set for use. Known as consoles or platforms, these devices are standardized computers tailored for gaming and produced by a single firm. Its first U.S. console, released in 1985, was the Nintendo Entertainment System ( NES ) and was the first major video game platform to achieve global success. Nintendo experienced its golden era in early 1990s, becoming the top player in both home and handheld consoles. However, Nintendo s lead was severely diminished in the fifth generation era, where it lost to Sony due to its inability in adapting to the shift in gamer demographics. The average age of gamers had gone up; however, Nintendo s image was still very much a kid friendly game console, allowing Sony to capture most of the older gamers. Sales were down from 50M units in the Super NES console line to 30M in the Nintendo 64 console line, Nintendo s product in the fifth generation. Nintendo was also disadvantaged by its higher royalty charge to software developers, resulting in lower number of game titles being produced. • 8. Fairnelli Characteristics Of The Baroque Period When thinking about the Baroque period, people tend to only associate it with instrumentalists and composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, George Fredrich Handel and Antonio Vivaldi. However, in addition to such instrumentalist and composers, there are some great vocalists who represent the Baroque period but are not widely recognized today. Carlo Maria Michelangelo Nicola Broschi, who is better know by his stage name, Farinelli, is an Italian vocalist of the 18th century and one of the remarkable singers in the history of music. According to Charles Burney, an English music historian, Fairnelli set off with such brilliancy and rapidity of execution that it was difficult for the violins of those days to keep pace with him... [he] could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Fairnelli was still a student, his father died unexpectedly at the age of 36, which led his family in great poverty. In order to maintain economic security and to become the greatest singer of all time, Fairnelli decided to castrate. As a result, Farinelli was able to keep his powerful male voice that allowed him to sing any range of voice parts in opera, including high pitched soprano parts. Shortly after Farinelli s first few public performances, he became popular in many cities as a young talented singer. In addition to singing, Farinelli was a harpsichordist and a composer. He composed several cantatas and arias, including the famous piece, Ossequiosissimo ringraziamento, which he also wrote the lyrics. Therefore, even though Farinelli focused on his vocal the most, he was a gifted musician in all parts. Just like most of the talented musicians who begin their careers at young age, Farinelli participated in several professional stages when he was still only a teenager. At the age of fifteen, Farinelli made his debut in Popora s Serenata, Angelica e Medoro, with two other professional Italian soprano singers, Marianna Bulgarelli and Domerico Gizzi at the Royal chapel of Naples. Furthermore, at the age of seventeen, he sang in Rome in Porpora s Flavio Anicio Olibrio. Farinelli was beloved by the audiences for his pure and powerful voice with full of musical ... • 9. And Symbolism In The Necklace, By Guy De Maupassant Ten years lost on repaying debts, losing money, time, and her beauty; Guy De Maupassant illustrates in his 1884 short story The Necklace, that self indulgence can cost more than intended. De Maupassant uses irony and symbolism throughout this common tale of greed. He illustrates the main character Mathilde Loisel, a very sad and selfish woman, never happy with things in her life, always in search of finer, richer, and better possessions. Mathilde suffer[s] ceaselessly, feeling herself born to enjoy all delicacies and all luxuries (para. 3). When her devoted husband provides all he can; even an invitation to the ball at the palace, Mrs. Loisel is not content. She needs a new dress, and jewelry, inevitably she borrows a diamond necklace, so she can pretend she is more and has more. She loses the necklace, and then Mr. and Mrs. Loisel spend 10 years paying off the replacement; only to find out the original is a fake. Mathilde is a very greedy and selfish woman, with the use of symbolism, characterization, and social class; De Maupassant illustrates how these traits in human nature can cost a person everything. She would have liked so much to please, to be envied to be charming, to be sought after (5). Mathilde s character is always striving to have others see her outside of her reality, to have someone think of her to be in a higher class of society. De Maupassant uses the class separation to intensify Mathilde s desires versus reality. She often refers to not having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Women s Role For Women The traditional family structure was, although headed and led by males, supplied and sustained by females. Contributing members of society are expected to ear their keep, usually by working in some form. The way in which women were allowed to ear their keep was in the home. The Labor Law instituted in 1930 promised to liberate married women from the workshop and factory. Far from liberating, it sought to ensure that women could remain in the home and fulfill the only purpose of Christian marriage: reproduction. This regulation did not serve as protection, but merely assigns a positive spin on the concept of limiting women s potential. Women made up a slim percentage of those educated at the secondary level and therefore qualified for few professional positions, they did dominate training for magisterio, elementary school teaching. This unusual statistic evidence that there were indeed ways to seek employment, but even within there is a reminder of the types of roles in which the women who were allowed to contribute could be placed. For women seeking work, professional options were generally limited to becoming domestic servants, ticket sellers or office workers, nurses, pharmacists, or teachers. Significant number of prostitutes remained though brothels had been outlawed. The main draw to prostitution was the high income opportunity. Women needed to gain the permission of many to begin a job, so this covert business was a tactic in which women could circumvent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beauty cosmetics can build a drastic change in a person s features, as they improve the best features and cover the blemishes. People use creams and lotions to cleanse the skin deeply. This is not possible with water and regular soap . Deep cleansing removes other underlying pollutants and opens the skin pores . Blocked pores lead to the formation of acne and beauty cosmetics prevent this from occurring. At the same time, we cannot remove some blemishes so easily. However, for species living in environmental extremes, they have little opportunity to regulate the climate warming changes to their physical environment and must display plasticity in their key behaviors to cope with the changes. Polar bears face the dilemma of remaining with ice that has retreated past biologically productive shallow waters or to move away from the retreating sea ice to the shore which can lead to inadequate resources and exposure to risk factors. The New York Stock Market Mentioned the words stock market to anyone in the United States and you are likely to get a vast array of comments, from excitement over making lots of money, to anger of losing lots of money. Everyone seems to have an opinion about the stock market, yet only about 50 percent of Americans are invested in the stock market. A troubling aspect is that few individuals actually understand how the stock market works. These individuals are taking a risk by investing in stocks that they do not truly understand. An individual choosing to invest on their own, without the advice of a financial professional, is like a person self diagnosing a major illness; the results could be devastating and irreversible. To achieve financial success through investing in the stock market it is imperative that an individual work with a financial professional who will help them properly state their goals and objectives, design a properly allocated portfolio, determine their risk tolerance, and guide them in the ongoing investing process. In the case of the Old Testament, the authors wrote books that highlighted various ideas such as love, obedience, and suffering. Despite various subtopics, the Old Testament clearly demonstrates the theme of God s faithfulness to his followers. To begin with, God s faithfulness is displayed in the Pentateuch. One example is found in the opening chapters of Genesis. Even though Adam and Eve disobeyed his command, God does not let sin prevent him from being faithful. Rather than abandoning the nation for its faithlessness, God provides them will nourishment and protection during their journey. These acts further reinforce the faithfulness of God, even when his followers stray. In all, the Pentateuch demonstrates the theme of God s faithfulness. In addition to the Pentateuch, the Old Testament books of the Deuteronomistic history reveal the theme of God s faithfulness to his followers. Initial examples are found in the conquest of the Promised Land depicted in the book of Joshua. Throughout the Israelite campaign to oust natives and settle the land, God s actions demonstrate his faithfulness. In one instance God uses Rahab to hide Israelite spies, while in several other situations he allows the Israelites to defeat its foes. From these actions, it is clear that God remained faithful to his promise with Abraham (to provide his descendents with land). In addition to Joshua, the book of Judges provides an example of God s faithfulness. Throughout the book, Israel repeatedly is unfaithful to God and is conquered by foreign powers. Life in the high middle ages, between 1000 and 1300 A.D., had two kinds of communities, manorial villages and towns. The major difference in these two distinct types of communities was the freedom and rights of the people. In the manorial villages you had lords who owned large portions of land. The vassals who entered into a military obligation with the lords, in exchange for land and protection. Finally, serfs who were a class of people that worked their lord s land as half slave and half freeman. Vassals were more of an employee and the serfs were little more than a slave because they were bound to the lord s land. The serfs could not leave or do anything without the lord s permission and most of the time they had to pay fees to be granted the permissions they requested. In contrast the townspeople elected their officials, had freedom to choose a careers, they move about where they liked, and could acquire training and schooling. Townspeople were in fact free and not absolutely controlled by a lord. As for the manorial villages, the lords had all the power and had absolute control over all the actions and work of the vassals and serfs. A Replication of the Stroop Effect A Replication of the Stroop Effect Kimber Ann Cook Broughton High School 3/26/08 Ms. Greene IB Psychology SL 1, 738 Abstract The Stroop (1935) effect is the inability to ignore a color word when the task is to report the ink color of that word (i.e., to say green to the word RED in green ink). The present study investigated whether object based processing contributes to the Stroop effect. According to this view, observers are unable to ignore irrelevant features of an attended object (Kahneman Henik, 1981). An interesting challenge arises when a task such as color naming is identified as both controlled and automatic, by varying the other task involved. Color naming is identified as a controlled process when the other task is word reading, but as an automatic process when the other task is shape naming. Cohen, Dunbar and McClelland (1990) proposed an alternative explanation of the Stroop effect, which does not distinguish between automatic and controlled processing. Instead, they proposed that automaticity is a range, and that Stroop interference depends on the relative degree of learning the particular tasks, not on processing speed. Attention is thought to be selective focused on one subject at a time. Traditionally, it has been assumed that automatic processing is involuntary, it does not require attention, and is relatively fast; whereas, controlled processing is voluntary, does require attention, and is relatively slow. We can conclude from this that the more we repeat a certain material or tasks the more it becomes automatic and effortless to us.
