Biblical Symbols Of The Bible
Throughout the Gospels, there are various symbols which have meanings that are harder to grasp from
one reading alone. Many symbols in the Bible need deeper analyses and background knowledge to be
able to fully understand and comprehend. Throughout the centuries, there have been countless
attempts to decode and explain such symbols, some of which have been made by Origen of
Alexandria. Origen proposed a threefold structure for the meanings of Scripture, and I will be using
this structure to explain a passage found in the Bible to its greatest potential. Afterwards, I will be
analyzing the symbol of kingdom using a technique that Smith has taught us.
One meaning of Scripture, according to Origen, is the literal interpretation. This involves the body,
narrative, and historical account of the meaning. One of the passages I will be analyzing is Mark 12:1
12, otherwise known as the Parable of the Tenants. In this passage, Jesus tells the chief priests,
teachers of the law, and the elders a story of a man who planted a vineyard. To take this reading
literally, you would assume it was just a story of this man, who sent servants to collect fruit from the
vineyard and had them killed off or beaten, one by one. Quoted from Mark, At harvest time he sent a
servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. But they seized him, beat
him and sent him away empty handed. Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on
the head and treated him

MALARIA; VACCINES AND ITS DEVELOPMENT
Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite called Plasmodium according to researches done by Center
for Disease and Control. It is transmitted by mosquito bites and it is of major public health challenge
in developing countries. It disproportionately affects poor people. Majority of malaria cases occur in
the poorest countries of the world. (1). The journal, The Great Killers; Malaria compared malaria to
tuberculosis, describing it as Captain of the men of death in Africa where it kills over a million people
yearly (1). Worldwide malaria affects 200 300 million people, causing chronic debility in many

Origin of the human malaria parasite
Plasmodium falciparum has become one of the most prevalent and lethal of the malaria parasites
infecting humans despite the fact that its evolutionary history remains controversial and unresolved.
(Nature, The International Weekly Journal of Science No.7314 23 September, 2010). Researches done
by Weimin Liu and associates to characterize Plasmodium species using DNA sequence in faecal
samples from wild living apes indicated Plasmodium infections in Gorilla and Chimpanzees from the
nearly 3000 specimens collected. These Plasmodium infections were prevalent in Chimpanzees (Pan
troglodytes) and western gorillas (Gorilla gorilla), but not in gorilla found from the eastern part of
central Africa known as Gorilla beringei and bonobos also known as Pan paniscus. The findings also
indicated that ape plasmodial infections were highly prevalent, well distributed and is most of the time
are made up of mixed parasites species. This interesting research findings shows that P. falciparum
originated from gorilla and not chimpanzee, bonobo or even ancient human origin.
Malaria Complications
Malaria, which is caused mainly by Plamodium species, is transmitted to human beings by the bite of
infected Anopheles mosquitoes. In humans, the parasites which is also known as sporozoites travel to
the liver where they mature and change into another form known as the

Chapter 1
The statement applies an everyday situation to the reader and give the reader what to apply from the
information they were given. Everyday situation was about giving the salesclerk your credit card. We
never view a situation other ways until we process the information we were given. You had to think
about someone who is reliable to use my credit card information. The author attacked us with a lot of
information we might not have understood in order to carefully apply the word they uses to

I noticed a complete change in paragraphs between the draft and final. Paper 2 was completely
different from paper one because Discussion Board started the process for the paper. Discussion Board
three was to input your idea on how to do paper two. It was somewhat of an outline to the paper. On
paper one, I didn t place any thought into the paper. I just went with the flow. On paper two, I used the
discussion as a reference to what to write in the paper. I took more time in editing the paper two. What
I learned that is going to help me created better paper is started my paper with an outline.
Processes
Thinking back to the beginning of the semester, I improved in fixing my mistakes in my writing.
Whenever I review and edit my drafts, I would usually overlook most mistakes because I would just
read my draft but not look at the mistakes I commit. In my paper one draft, Opening, social mind bugs
are a trait human have developed to become social: human is social animals. In my paper, one final,
Opening, social mind bugs are traits humans have developed to become social: humans are social
animals. In this first paper, I only recognized little mistakes that stood out in my final paper. I already
noticed that I can remove the word opening, and I could have used a semicolon instead of a colon. I
improved on looking for grammar mistakes. I started using a trick my tutor recommended for me to
use when I am editing my paper. I should read my draft slower, so I

Memory And Deep Memory
During her talk, Ethel Sternberg said that it made her very happy when students took her memories
and stored it in the back of their heads. Her words directly relate to Charlotte Delbo s differentiation
between common and deep memory and how this impacts readers of the Holocaust. Common memory
refers to works that are a factual retelling and more importantly, leave the reader undisturbed by the
work. On the other hand, deep memory leaves an impression and affects the reader in some capacity.
One of the challenges that a Holocaust survivor faces when writing about their experiences is invoking
this deep memory. Ethel Sternberg referred as storing it in the back of their heads while Delbo always
repeated, Il faut donner à voir or that they must be made to see . In order to transmit a sense of the
unthinkable, such as the ambiguity of their survival and the reason for the Holocaust, writers have to
make the reader feel the uncomfortable reality of this historical event. Authors such as Delbo,
Appelfeld, Pagis, and Foer accomplish this by directly engaging their reader by offering no solution to
the Holocaust and concluding on an ambivalent note. In this way, these writers elicit deep memory by
not offering an answer to the Holocaust and forcing their readers to reconsider the ambiguous qualities
of their writings.
In Auschwitz and After, Delbo s Marie Louise establishes the issue of common memory and how
individuals will assume that they understand the Holocaust. The

America s Acceptance Of Interracial Marriages
Are you tired of hearing, you should love, date, and marry within your own kind? I mean c mon
people. It s been decades even centuries and it seems like society s acceptance of interracial marriages
is still very much frown upon. Since my arrival here in the United States, in the early 80s till even
now, I have been told, by my parents, aunts, uncles, and relatives, to stay away from other ethnic
groups because they don t understand our people, our language, our tradition, and our way of life. I
would argue that we no longer live in Laos and we need to limit ourselves to old traditions or
superstitions. That there are some many benefits, in America, to marrying someone of another race
and culture. Some of the main benefits would be to break the racial barriers of discrimination, lessen
hate crimes, and create a safer environment for our children, whether of mixed cultures or not.
Firstly, it has been throughout history that interracial marriages are unacceptable or even illegal for
two people of a different race to marry. A tradition that has been around for centuries until in 1958 the
case of, Loving v. Virginia, two Virginia natives Richard Loving, a white man and Mildred Jeter, a
black woman got married in the District of Columbia and returned home soon after the wedding,
Virginia declared that they violated the state s anti miscegenation statute and was sentenced to a year
in jail or leave the state and not return for 25 years (Loving). On June 12, 1967, the United

Essay about Attacks and Al-Qaeda in Northern Afghanistan
According to the New York Times, the Taliban and Al Qaeda have opened a new front in the
previously peaceful northern Afghanistan. They have also stepped up attacks in their heartland,
southern provinces. To defeat the insurgents, General McChrystal, the US commander in Kabul, has
requested 40,000 additional troops and resources to persuade the moderate Taliban to abandon
violence. But this strategy is likely to succeed only with the help from key regional states.
Increased fatalities and dwindled public support have put pressure on President Obama to end the war
quickly. According to icasualties.org, 1,530 coalition soldiers, including 928 Americans, have died in
Afghanistan since 2001. The death toll has spiked by 64 percent ... Show more content on

America and Pakistan have different goals in Afghanistan. While Washington wants to defeat the
Taliban and Al Qaeda, Pakistan wants them to stop violence in its territories and to capture power in
Kabul. Islamabad sees the Afghan war as an opportunity to strengthen its military, with Western
support, to fend off India and lean on New Delhi to resolve the Kashmir dispute. From Pakistan s
perspective, the Taliban jihadists trained in Pakistani madarsas and supported by the Inter Service
Intelligence, the military spy agency will make the best allies in Kabul and help augment the anti
Indian jihad in Kashmir.
All other neighbors, except China, had assisted the Northern Alliance to topple the Taliban in 2001
and still oppose their victory. India, the regional hegemon with broad influence in South Asia, believes
a Taliban ruled Afghanistan will support the jihadists in Kashmir and fan the fire of Islamic extremism
elsewhere. Iran fears that the Taliban will foment troubles in its Sunni areas, and Tajikistan and
Uzbekistan are afraid that a Taliban state will motivate their extremists to pursue a similar goal. All
these nations had helped the Northern Alliance to topple the Taliban in 2001. China too is now worried
that Taliban victory could further fuel Islamist militancy in Xinjiang and other western provinces.
None of these states wants another to gain upper hand in Kabul. Marvin G. Weinbaum, a US Institute
of Peace fellow, wrote in 2006,

To investigate the effect of the concentration of Sodium Thiosulfate and Hydrochloric Acid and to
determine the rate of the reaction. Introduction:
Different reactant have different rate on reaction. Some may occur in a sudden; some can take hours to
react. This experiment is to investigate how the reactant concentrations have an effect on the reaction

Tijuana Straits, By Kem Nunn
People do not always get to have the fairytale life they once dreamed of. Life comes with many
struggles, but people can overcome them if they really want to. They choose to follow a certain path in
their life, which at times it can be good or bad. In the book, Tijuana Straits , by Kem Nunn, the author
explains the different life experiences of certain characters in the book and how their life ended up.
Unlike a fairytale, he gives the different perspective and point of views of the characters. Nunn gave
enough information to know how the character s lives ended up the way it did. The characters, Fahey,
Armando, and Magdalena, were each described with a different persona so that each one sticks out
different than the other. Nunn gave the point of view of the characters so the readers can get a sense of
what each one of them is thinking of. There s a character named Fahey, an ex surfer who took the
wrong path and ended up owning and working in his worm farm, which is basically the protagonist in
the book. Fahey s life was described as a rollercoaster and he went into detail about it. Nunn states,
The man was so pissed about not getting more mileage out of a second offense that he kept Fahey in a
county lockup for six months awaiting transfer and another six in what they euphemistically called bus
therapy that is, in constant motion, from one facility to another, all the way to Leavenworth and back
again. (77). Nunn describes a scene in which Fahey was arrested for

Jewish Identity During The Middle Ages
During the Middle Ages, Jewish individuals maintained a strong sense of a collective unity while
living without autonomy. Jewish people in the Middle Ages were stateless, and many felt as if they
were foreigners inside of countries that they have lived in for years. However, despite this disconnect,
Jews were a part of the everyday community life and often associated with their Christian or Muslim
counterparts. It was this complex social structure that allowed Jewish members of society to both able
to maintain a separate identity during the Middle Ages through their sacred time, communal ties,
literacy, and family ties, while still being acculturated into the society in which they lived. In order to
understand how Jews were able to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Jewish culture, the Sabbath, or the day of rest is on Saturday, rather than Sunday like the Christians
or Friday like their Muslim counterparts. By having a separate day entirely from their peers, the
Sabbath publically demonstrated their separation of beliefs from those around them. The separate days
of rest indicate the difference between the religions and thus create a separate identity for Jews
because they have an entirely different day of worship. Moreover, in addition to the actual separation
of days, the Sabbath sought to create a Jewish identity because the Sabbath immersed the Jewish
people in a full day of worship and ritual based activities. For instance, leading up to Sabbath men and
women had to partake in certain duties in order to prepare for the holy day of the week. Men and
women were supposed to partake in ritual bathing before entering the synagogue, they were meant to
read the Torah, and women were meant to light the candles (nerot) and make the challah bread for the
Sabbath meal. The Sabbath meals were generally made by the wife or women of the home and eaten
on Friday nights before the Sabbath day. At these meals, the family would thank God for the food at
hand and remember that even though the temple was gone, that they were continuing Gods good
work. Typically, the Sabbath meals were meant to have challah bread, wine, and meat if the family
could afford it because the Sabbath meals were meant to be a good meal. These meals especially
played a role in the creation of a separate Jewish identity because psychologically they reaffirmed to
Jews that in this moment they were elite. No matter what had happened the week prior or what was
about to happen in the week to come, the Sabbath meals offer a feeling of strength because it gathers
those who love each other to break bread and unify together through their religion. The

Theory Of Skyline Queries
Many attempts have been made towards developing optimized algorithms and introduction of several
models for skyline queries. Skyline queries had been studied as the maximum vectors before Borzsony
and colleagues [23] introduced skyline queries for database applications. Various algorithms are
provided for skyline computations, including calculation of the progressive skyline using auxiliary
structures, the nearest neighbor algorithm for processing the skyline query, the branch and bound
skyline (BBS) algorithm, the sort filter skyline (SFS) algorithm that exploits pre arranged lists, and
linear erase sorting (LESS) algorithm for the skyline. Recently, there has been a growing interest in
addressing the problem of large dimensions for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In [28], it is shown that the proposed method is not correct. Sharifzadeh and colleagues [29] have
proposed another version of the method that eliminates the flaws of the previous version, but it is
computationally costly. Other methods for calculating skyline have been suggested as well. A multi
objective optimized process for skyline has been presented based on the genetic algorithm by Özyer et
al. [30]. Fuzzy skyline has been proposed to make the skyline more flexible. In particular, fuzzy
skyline in [31] is considered and a flexible overcome relation is provided. This relationship makes it
possible to extend skyline with points that are not highly dominated by any other points (even if they
are strongly dominated). Yet, other methods arise to improve the skyline. A variety of fuzzy skyline
methods are studied in [32]. In the paper, five incentives are raised to fuzzify the skyline. The first
motivation is to refine the skyline with the introduction of a sequence of points to find the best skyline
points. The second is to make the skyline more flexible. This means that where points conditions are
close to the skyline points, they are also considered as members of the skyline. In the third case, the
skyline can become easier with different methods. For example, by

The Problem Of The Disabled People
I am exploring the disabled people are not discriminate against, and how they get respect from people.
People cannot ignore the problem of the disabled people because it is not only about the disabled
people, but also about people. The problem of the disabled people will influence the development of
the country, so it also influence people s life. Discriminating against the disabled people is not good
for the country s development. Nowadays, people more and more care about the disabled people
because when they watch a movie about the disabled people, the audience will think about the
problem of the disabled people in reality. In many countries, the policy and system for protecting the
disabled people are not perfect. In reality, people still see the disabled people homeless sleep in the
street, so it means that the government should make some policy to help the disabled people, and solve
the problem. The disabled people need people s respect because sometimes they are fragile and have
weak self confidence. If people do not look at the disabled people in the surprise and different way, the
disabled people will feel more comfortable. Elimination of discrimination will changes attitude of the
disabled people, so they will think in the positive way. At the same time, people should think about
how they treat the disabled people, what else they can do for the disabled people. Everyone knows that
the disabled people need help from society, but seldom people will exactly know how to

This printing press idea quickly spread throughout Europe and later to the Americas (YouHis2).
Afterwards, around the 1700s, when the use of newspapers began to be an everyday publication,
advertisements started being printed in them, even if the advertisements were simple at the time.
Newspapers became the first medium to be conquered by advertisement. In 1721, Benjamin Franklin
founded the Pennsylvania Gazette, the second newspaper made in the Americas. What was special
about it is that it had pictures accompanying the ads to help the people understand better their product,
which was the difference with his close relative, The Boston Gazette, which had pictureless ads
(YouHis3). Since the eighteenth century, most newspapers have relied on advertisements for part of
their profit, and they have been developing advertising bit by bit.
Following the example of the newspapers, radio programming began using advertisements. These
advertisements were very slow and repetitive sonnets that companies used to get people to know their
products. These advertisements started in the late 1800s, with their lengths being fairly short. They
never extended past a minute. To compensate for the brevity of the ads, companies would repeat the
same ad many times between radio programs.
Then, the invention of television came along. Advertisements on television captivated everyone s

Retinol Hypothesis
The relationship between polychlorinated biphenyls and thyroid hormones and retinol was studied
focusing on two groups of female polar bears (females with cubs of the year and females without
cubs) and within a group of males. PCB is an industrial organochlorine chemical by product which has
toxic effects. Since PCB is volatile it is deposited in the polar regions. PCB negatively impacts brain
development due to their impact on the thyroid system. It also causes menstrual dysfunction,
anovulation, and miscarriage. The polar bear feeds on the seals which contain OCs in their fatty
tissues so the PCB congeners can greatly accumulate in their body. There are two main types of

mothers fasted for at least three months and the control group in the study was the mothers who were
not pregnant and the males. Because intercourse, reproduction, and sustenance of the polar bears

Teacher Identity And Identity
Merriam Webster s Dictionary defines identity as the distinguishing character or personality of an
individual. Teacher identity implies both a cognitive psychological and sociological perspective:
people develop their identity in interaction with other people, but they express their professional
identity in perceptions of who they are and who they want to become as a result of this interaction.

Egg Condition Of Egg Research Paper
An egg has the capability of withstanding a large amount of force as long as the force in distributed
evenly around the egg. For example, an egg can be thrown like a baseball and sometimes the egg won

break but if it is evened out around the egg, the egg has a higher chance of not breaking. Along with
evening out the force, it will also benefit the egg if the impact is decreased with the help of outside
objects surrounding the egg. The structure should absorb and deflect the force of impact. The design

Criminal and Civil Law in the English Legal System Essay
One of the main differences between criminal cases and civil cases is that they are held in different
courts, this is because there is a significant distinction between a civil wrong and a criminal wrong.
Crimes are considered to be a type of wrongdoing, however civil wrongs tend to have only an impact
on the parties involved in the case. For example: a breach of contract. Where as criminal wrongs tend

Magistrates also determine, subject to appeal, whether the defendant should be kept in custody
pending trial. Magistrates can impose conditions to meet their concerns about granting bail. Courts
have limited information on which to base bail decisions, with the exception of experimental bail
information schemes involving the probation service. Normally prosecutors and sometimes defence
lawyers make representations as to whether bail should be granted or not. There is a high degree of
correlation between prosecutors representations and magistrates decisions. One problem the society
has with magistrates is that sections of the community are underrepresented in the lay magistracy. The
lay magistracy remains predominately white, middle aged, middle class and conservative.
The other court of trial for a criminal case is the Crown Court. Indictable offences like murder can
only be dealt with in this court and also triable offences for example, all theft cases. An accused has
the absolute right of trial in the Crown Court but if he/she elects summary trial the magistrates may
decline to hear the case. Even if they do they may commit a convicted person to the Crown Court for
sentence if they believe their own sentencing proves to be inadequate. Three types of judges sit in the

Melissa Aronczyk Branding The Nation Summary
Branding the Nation by Melissa Aronczyk is a book which depicts the business of branding nations
often done by governments through their diverse marketing strategies. Currently, governments are
turning to marketing experts and advisors to help them in defining and marketing their jurisdiction.
Public relations advisors, communication experts, and branding experts are consulted to enhance the
image of a country for the sake of better international relations. This practice which started in the late
1990s has grown in popularity in many countries both developed and developing adopting the
practice.(Location 535 of 5811) In Melissa Aronczyk s book, the author examines the political,

Significant modifications in the cultural policies are also very noticeable in the early stages of a
implementing a nation branding exercise.(Location 215 of 5811) Aronczyk concludes that the
knowledge required for the process no longer comes from the national government, historical and
social legacies, nor local sources but from marketing experts with knowledge in international relations
and communications. This lack of knowledge, as is shown evidently, shows how the process of
decision making has changed from purely governmental but rather from outside consultants.(Location

Analysis Of Voltaire s Candide
Candide is a French satire that was first published in 1759 by Voltaire, who was a philosopher during
the Enlightenment Age. It is a story about a young man, Candide, who is a follower of Leibnizian
optimism. Candide witnesses and experiences many hardships in the world that puts his life at risk and
tests the strength of his beliefs. During Candide s many adventures, he faces many historical events
that Voltaire uses to simplify subtle philosophies and cultural traditions, by highlighting their many
flaws. This essay will discuss the ways that the various context of settings work in a satirical literature.
Throughout the story, Voltaire uses optimisms folly as his main satirical target. The characters Candide
and his philosophy professor Pangloss are devoted followers of the Leibnizian teachings of optimism.
They both maintain that, everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds . (CITE). This
idea is a simplified version of many philosophies from a number of Enlightenment philosophers, most
notably Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz. To many of these thinkers, the presence of any evil in the
world is a sign that God is not entirely good, or is not at all powerful. But, the idea of an imperfect
God is irrational. These philosophers established that since God is perfect, the world he created must
also be perfect, and that those who perceive the worlds imperfections simply to do not understand
Gods grand plan. Since Voltaire doesn t accept the idea of a perfect

The Risky Experiment Essay example
This is not the typical ghost story. This is a true story.
The first thing you notice about Gage is his evil eye, a pale blue eye. Whenever he stared at me with
his devilish eye, my blood run cold. That vulture eye will never leave my head. Gage could hear many
things in hell. Screaming and sorrowing every night non stop, made people think he was crazy.
Wrinkles covered his face. His skin was pale like a porcelain doll. Yellow decayed tooth were seen
when he smiled menacingly. His back was humped because of carrying the weight of a great

Gage and Demian approached the gargantuan stone castle, sat high on the mountain. Two men in arms

winding stairs the floor creaked. It was dark as ink. As Demian pushed the wooden door... The door
hinges screeched and a huge colony of bats flew out from the door showing their incisors. The surgeon
room was ready for the experiment. The only light source was the flames dancing and swirling. In the
room there was an antique bed supported by thin rusted iron bars and an electric generator.
Gage laid down on the fluffy bed next to the bloodless corpse. A graveolent rot odor diffused in the
air. The thin walls were covered with patterned broken to pieces wallpaper. It was a large room, were

through the scalp. Gage screamed louder than a freight train. A red crimson liquid splurted out like a
bomb from the head.
Demian removed the viscous pink brain and fed the brain to his monstrous, abnormal creature. In one

Meridian Plaza Fire
The One Meridian Plaza fire that took place on February 23, 1991 was an utter disaster in which
everything went wrong. Starting with the initial fire detection and continuing to the eventual
suppression of the fire, events unfolded in manner that heavily stacked the chips against fire fighters
of Philadelphia. Even though this was a tragedy of immense proportions, there are lessons to be
learned and behaviors to be rectified through a thorough study. With an examination of multiple
factors, including the building s construction, occupancy, fire protection systems, the nature of the fire
fighters response, and the fire growth and control to name a few, a clearer picture of what happened
February 23, 1991 can be realized. Furthermore, lessons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On arrival they witnessed smoke and flames on the mid level of the building. Two battalion chiefs
arrived on scene and one proceeded to set up incident command at the lobby, while the other led fire
fighters up the building for fire attack (Routley 8). One of the security guards then informed the chiefs
that the fire was on the 22nd floor, and at 2033 battalion chief 5 ordered a second alarm (Routley 8).
Due to insufficient fire protection around the utility lines all power was lost to the building (Routley
8). At the loss of primary power the emergency generator didn t kick in due to improper maintenance
it was unable to start (Routley 8). This profoundly impacted the fire operations for the remainder of
the incident because the entire building was left without electricity (Routley 8). As stated in the
tactical report, This total power failure had a major impact on the firefighting operations. The lack of
lighting made it necessary for firefighters to carry out suppression operations in complete darkness
using only battery powered lights. Since there was no power to operate elevators, firefighters were
forced to hand carry all suppression equipment including SCBA replacement cylinders up the stairs to
the staging area that was established on the 20th floor. In addition, personnel had to climb at least 20

Examples Of Bravery In The Odyssey
Homer s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, is a classic literature piece written originally in
ancient Greece. The book is an epic poem about the hero Odysseus perils and his journey back home
after being held away for twenty years. While this is taking place, his son, Telamakhos tries to find his
father and gain his place in adulthood. To fully find self respect, Telamakhos must overcome the
suitors that have taken over his father s house. Both men commit acts of heroism and bravery
throughout the poem. Many characters throughout the story show bravery in our modern way, but
Odysseus is the hero of this old story. So these examples of bravery in the Odyssey come from him.
Odysseus shows his bravery in a flashback to the time he was on his way home from the ten year war
in Troy. In book X, lines 299 301, he tells one of his men Euralokhos: ...rest here then; take food and
wine; stay in the black hull s shelter. Let me go, as I see nothing for it but to go. (Homer 273)
Euralokhos has just told him that a group of his men have been turned to swine by the powerful
goddess, Kirki. Odysseus goes into her home to get his men back even though he, too, could be turned
into a swine as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mental Maps
My life can be divided into two segments. The first part I lived with my family and Mexico City, the
second part started when I moved to Austin in the start of college. The live that I lived in each of the
sections has been different from the activities that I took part in, all the way to what kind of location
those activities occurred. In this paper I will explain the two mental maps that I created. For each map
I will compare and contrast the Landmarks, nodes, edges, paths, and edges in each of the sections of
my life and why they are relevant to me. The first map that I drew is about, the space I inhabited in the
past, which is Mexico City. In this part of my life I resided in a very residential area one that in the

In the past I used to be more focused in religion and sports, since I used to think of the synagogue and
JCC as important nodes. Currently the activities I typically partake have become mostly studying,
socializing and drinking, which can be perceived by the nodes I consider important, such as the SAC
and my fraternity. In the case of the landmarks, in both of the mental maps I have objects that catch
my attention in my everyday routes as things I distinguish in the landscape. Consequently, in both
maps my paths are defined on the nodes of my life, which have led to these objects becoming
landmarks for me.
Meanwhile when it comes to considering how I got from point A to point B in each map it is very
different. In Mexico City every single place I traveled meant that I needed to drive or be driven around
since distances are relatively long compared to Austin. This meant that the places that I considered to
be important for me are more scattered around my mental map. For Austin, most of my activities take
part in a smaller region since the mode of transportation I primarily use is walking, therefore the
distances I cover are much shorter than in my past.
In general I can conclude that by comparing and contrasting both mental maps, I can more accurately
understand how I have changed as a person, not only because I live in a very different city,

The Pillars Of Analytics Scale
to 4 on the Pillars of Analytics scale (Davenport Harris 36), Hero has some room for improvement
based on acceptance by the entire resource group. At this point, 20% of the Hero team can
dynamically use the analytics we currently offer. For example, 2015 was the first year that we, as an
operations and sales team, had a dynamic forecasting plan. We took the top customers making up 80%
of our annual revenue and projected out their volume by SKU, by month and kept a rolling 12 months
of inventory planning based on each customer s growth objectives. Putting this plan together resulted
in an out of stock liability improvement of 15% and actual sales were within 1% of budget
projections. This project, a huge jump in our planning procedures, was completely facilitated by three
people in our organization that employs over fifty people. The issues above directly tie in to the
second pillar of Enterprise Wide Analytics. Although all departments have access to dynamic
analytical systems, most have zero interest in utilizing it. There have been several missed
opportunities for growth on analytical competition from the Operations side of the business. However,
with the success of the 2015 and 2016 forecasting models, the senior managers are working to align
efforts and optimize standard operating procedures that rely heavily on analytical tools. This proven
performance is slowly raising the bar for Senior Management commitment. Although there is work to

How Far Had the Bolsheviks Created a Totalitarian State ...
A totalitarian state, is a where the central government of a state does not tolerate any parties with
opposing views and exercises complete dictatorial rule over all or most aspects of life. Lenin, the
leader of the Bolsheviks, took many measures in an attempt to create a totalitarian state, including the
dissolution of Constituent Assembly, the use of decrees and the establishment of a secret police group
called the Cheka. However there were also some ways in which he failed to achieve full
totalitarianism. The most basic characteristics of a Totalitarian state, are lack of free speech and state
control over the media. This is important to establish social control over the state. Lenin s described
free speech as bourgeois prejudice , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The creation of the secret police and the establishment of the gulags and labour camps, are signs that
Lenin had created a successful totalitarian state, and could assert physical control over the people. The
introduction of War Communism during the Russian Civil War, is evidence of Russian moving
towards a Totalitarian State. Many aspects of War communism were totalitarian in nature. For instance
the creation of a Supreme Economic Council, formed to take complete control over the Russian
highlights the central control over the most vital aspect of the state, that the Bolsheviks enforced.
Other measures include the requisitioning of excess grain from the Peasants. Many of these policies
were met with opposition, particularly among the agricultural peasants. This opposition was in turn
met with brutal force, which was another example of the nature of complete state authority. War
communism continued on until the end of the Civil war, by which time the Bolshevik forces had
succeeded in crushing all opposition. The success of the red forces meant that Russia was a step closer
in becoming a Totalitarian state, as they were now the most powerful party in Russia, with complete
control over all its territory. Upon the creation of the USSR, Lenin introduced new rule that would
ensure greater totalitarian control. Only communists would be able to stand for the soviets, and so this
meant that the communist party had the true control over the

This torment is best expressed by the haze, dizzy fog, and callous gaze, that she describes when trying
to choose her words
(9, 10, 11). Also, since she s Longing, Desperate to show, and Searching, her desire for the right words
is very strong. These components provide a strong thematic thread that was imitated from Sydney s
poem. His desire for effective expression is shown when he sought fit words, and tried to see if thence
would flow (5, 7). Both poets are inhibited by their tendency to censor and over analyze their work,
thus preventing themselves from free expression. Luckily, both poets come to a realization that the
only way to truly express themselves is to write from their heart.
The diction in Hidden Heart helps create imagery and a tone that is characteristic of what the poet is
feeling. The words bleed, stain, and wound, all connect to paint a picture of pain. Bleed and wound are
used to illustrate the temporary nature of Natalie s anxiety during the writing process, while stain
emphasizes the permanent quality of the letter and the importance of its effectiveness (1,2). In
contrast, Sydney places contradictory words side by side to subtly create tension. Words like
pity/grace, halting/forth, and burned/ brain, add to the strain and pressure that Astrophil feels (4, 8, 9).

The ending may not be a perfect one, however, it does have a good one. This book supports the
realistic fiction criteria. The author does a good job in portraying this book as having realistic
characters, scenery, and plot. I partially liked the way the author crafted the characters when making

When I had finished the book I felt I got to know the characters as another person. A Second thing I
liked about how the book was crafted was the scenery. The author made the scenery look like any
other small town. It has a library called the Herman W. Block Memorial Library, (DiCamillo 40). It
has a church, a trailer park, and a Gertrude s pet store, (DiCamillo 50), this is where Opal received her
first job. Every student including myself can picture these places in their heads easily. Some may have
not seen a trailer park before, but they can take what they saw on television and put it into pictures.
The scenery is realistic because most small town have all of these places and many students can relate
to this in some way or another. The last point that stood out to me about the crafting of this book was
the plot. The author used recurring plots. A plot that is mentioned in one part of the book but then
comes up in another part but gives a larger meaning then before. For instance, Otis tells Opal he has
has a dark past and was arrested but does not explain to her as to way he was arrested. Later on in the
book though, he tell Opal he was arrested because, I pushed down a police officer for not letting me
play my guitar out in public, (DiCamillo 131). I believe the plot is one of the important aspects of
making a book. It is where the story revolves around and how the events of a book

Disadvantages Of Service Quality
Quality as one basic dimension of competitive priorities is very important for companies, although
different functions such as manufacturing, marketing and engineering have different views of quality
definitions, Garvin in 1987 clarified a framework of quality which includes eight dimensions,
performance, features, reliability, conformance, durability, serviceability, aesthetics and perceived
quality (Ward, et al, 1998). Definitely, companies could choose different one or more above
dimensions strive to develop quality to be competitive priority.
For different types of companies, quality might refer to quality of products or quality of service.
Compares with quality of products, service quality is much more difficult to measure because service
is intangible and acts and processes only existing in time. In addition, service has unique characteristic
which cannot be found in products, such as customer influence, inseparability of production and
consumption, heterogeneity, perishability and labor intensity (Nie Kellogg, 1999). Even though, there
are still many practitioners and academics are keen on measuring service quality because it has
already emerged as a key strategic issue. Companies want to better understand service quality, and to
establish methods for improving quality to achieve competitive advantage and build customer loyalty
(Abdullah, 2006). Based on the importance of service quality, an increasing number of literatures and
companies pay attention to measuring

Colonial Literature Summary
Colonial Literature began with the work of English adventurers and colonists in the New World
benefit the readers in the country. Some of these early works reached the level of literature, as in the
truthful account of his adventures by Captain John Smith and the journalistic histories of John
Winthrop and William Bradford in New England. From the beginning, however, the literature of New
England was also directed to the improvement and instruction of the colonists themselves, intended to
direct them in the ways of the gods. The first literature work was published in the Puritan colonies,
was the Bay Psalm Book, and the whole effort of the divines wrote furiously to set forth their view.
Among them was Roger Williams and Thomas Hooker; who was to defend and promote visions of the
religious state. They set forth their visions in effect the first express the concept of national destiny in
a series of passion histories. Then as time went forward, you had the New Nation or New literature.
And that was basically the approach of the American Revolution and the achievement of the actual

The Pursuit Of Happyness By Chris Gardner
The Pursuit of Happyness In society there are still differences in classes such as higher class, middle
class, and lower class. In sociology, we observed a film called The Pursuit Happyness, where we
witnessed the struggles a father went through to succeed. Chris Gardner, who was played by Will
Smith, is living in his apartment with his wife and his son. Due to their struggles, the mother walks out
on and leaves Chris struggling alone with his son. In the film Chris Gardner applies for an unpaid
internship for a competitive stockbroker company where out of twenty men, only one gets the job.
While he is on his internship, we see the hardships of getting kicked out of his apartment to staying at
a shelter home to then sleeping in a subway bathroom with his son. Viewing the movie through a
sociological lens, The Pursuit of Happyness will be analyzed according to the major three sociological
paradigms: structural functionalism, social conflict theory, and symbolic interactionalism. As the
movie begins, a structural functionalist would identify the social institutions involved. One of the first
institutions introduced is family. The spouse of Chris Gardner is not satisfied with the amount of
income coming he is earning. It is clear that the institution of family is not meeting the needs of
happiness and financial stability because of the low income. The institution of family interrelates with
many others, such as the education institution and especially economic institution.

Suicide Terrorism And Terrorism
As President Abraham Lincoln once stated, The government of the people, by the people, for the
people... This illuminates the role of all Liberal and Democratic governments. In Liberalism and
Democracy, the government derives its power from its citizens and is supposed to represent their
needs and desires. The purpose of government is to protect individuals and their rights. Furthermore,
the more relevant and problematic the social and political issues are within a country, the more
imperative it is for the government to establish policies to remedy the issues. According to Pape, this
is the underlying philosophy of terrorist organizations and what ultimately fuels terrorism. Extremist
groups seek to instill fear among citizens to prompt the governments to adopt policies that the
extremists desire. The key premise of Dying to Win is that terrorism is not irrational, but rather just
one among a number of political strategies. Terrorist organizations are guided by the aspiration to
achieve a particular goal; to expel a foreign army from their territory and to instill fear in societies
around the world to prevent a military invasion.
Suicide Terrorism is strategic and deliberate as evident through three main properties and not through
irrational behavior or religious fanaticism. Timing, nationalist goals, and target selection are three
universal patterns supported by data in which suicide terrorism can be deemed a tactical phenomenon.
Suicide attacks are organized and

Literary Devices Used In The Raven By Edgar Allen Poe
Matthew Hylton ENG 200 030 December 7, 2017 The Raven Edgar Allen Poe The Raven by Edgar
Allen Poe is a first person narrative poem that is truly a dark poem of one s sanity when losing a loved
one. The poem is eighteen stanzas long that contains 108 lines. The poem uses many literary and
poetic devices to help construct the eerie atmosphere. Poe begins the poem by describing a setting that
symbolizes darkness and death perfectly Once upon a midnight dreary (1). Poe uses an internal rhyme
to heighten the effect of the setting. He does this to foreshadow the events that happen later on in the
poem, that the reader will soon begin to understand the dreariness of the setting. Poe is a mastermind
of using these devices to draw the reader in and help them understand the narrator on a deeper level
during the reading of the poem. As stanza one continues, Poe uses an alliteration in line 3 of the poem,
While I nodded, nearly napping (3), by using the repetition of the n sound throughout the stanza I
would argue he is trying to build suspense of the narrator answering the door. Poe uses many rhyme
schemes throughout the poem to give a bigger meaning to each word. The first stanza is no different.
Poe uses many internal rhymes in the stanza, but even uses an end rhyme in lines 2, 3, 4, and 5. He
uses the rhyme scheme ABCBBB in the first stanza. As Poe continues, the narrator begins to
remember his lost loved one Lenore . Poe begins to go darker into the poem creating an even larger
suspense, and added dramatic effect as the narrator slowly approaches the door to open it. Ah,
distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December; (6) Poe is using symbolism again to further his
dark atmosphere that he created in the first stanza. Poe is trying to get the reader to understand the
severity of the narrator s depression about Lenore . Poe in the very next line continues his emphasis on
the eeriness that is this poem s atmosphere. By describing the embers of the fire going out, he is
creating an image of darkness soon approaching. Because once the embers go out, the light goes out. I
would argue that Poe is foreshadowing even more of what will happen later in the poem. As the stanza
continues, you soon realize

Persuasive Techniques In Grant Writing
Grant Writing requires attention to detail, a creative flare, and relationship building. So many
proposals read like a television manual. After the first couple of sentences the reader wants to groan
and set it aside. Foundations want to feel inspired by your program. But don t over do it. Grantors roll
their eyes when you over hype a project or claim your organization is for the cost of mere pennies,
changing the world . Be honest. Get to the point; tell the foundation the problem you are going to
address and back up your statements with meaningful statistics. Use creativity to motivate not
exaggerate.
Know your audience, all good writing requires identifying your audience. Contact foundation

Shakespeare Uses Manipulation, Lies, And Deceit
Shakespeare Uses Manipulation, Lies, and Deceit Many people believe lying is just a bad habit, but
that is not true. Lying is a part of human nature, no matter if it is a big or small lie, everyone has lied
before ( Lying: Bad Habit Or Human Nature? ). Everyone has different reasons for deceiving others,
but that does not change the fact that everyone has lied at some point. Human nature keeps the world
from achieving complete perfection, and Shakespeare allows this idea to be the foundation that his
plays build off of. The human nature of deception is found as a common theme in Shakespeare s
Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing. Shakespeare uses these plays to communicate to his audiences
that sometimes in order to find the truth you have to use trickery and manipulation; thus creating the
idea that deception can be evil or harmless depending on the circumstances and the intentions of those
who are trying to decieve. Hamlet elucidates the dangers that deception can provoke in relationships
and shows the consequences of lying. Shakespeare shows his tangled opinions about deception
throughout Much Ado About Nothing by using manipulation to help benefit others and destroy
relationships; this allows Shakespeare to further show his idea that deception can be used for good and
evil. One of Shakespeare s main themes that is seen throughout many of his plays is deception; this
brings more dramatic components to the audience. Hamlet is a play that is solely created around a

Great Depression During The Depression
Great Depression DBQ The Great Depression, however inevitable, took people by surprise when the
stock market crashed in 1929. At first people did not fully understand the state of the economy, they
could not wrap their heads around the transition from popping champagne bottles to eating bread
crumbs for dinner. People were expecting a quick fix to the problem, assuming their lives to go back
to normal after a few months, ultimately underestimating the situation America was in. As a result, no
one was prepared to properly combat the extreme shortage of food, jobs, and money in the years to
come. One of the first resources to go during the depression was food, partially due to the lack of
money to afford it and the almost impossible production of it due to the Dust Bowl. During the early
stages of the depression people were still holding out for a miracle to revive their economy because of
this many individuals tried to live as they did before instead of trying to conserve food for later,
ultimately exhausting their pantry. A photograph taken by H.W. Felchner in 1932 depicts a long line of
people wrapping around a corner waiting for a meal at a restaurant. The picture also accurately
illustrates the desperation of the people in like waiting for anything to eat, as they ate all their food at
home. Because many of the American People were not prepared for the depression to strike, and some
were just in plain deniable of the current situation, most of their

Pynchon’s Vision of America in The Crying of Lot 49 Essay
First published in 1965, The Crying of Lot 49 is the second novel by American author Thomas
Pynchon. The novel follows Oedipa Mass, a young Californian housewife, after she unexpectedly
finds herself named the executrix of the estate of Californian real estate mogul, and ex boyfriend,
Pierce Inverarity. In reflecting on their history together, Oedipa recalls how her travels with Pierce
helped her acknowledge, but not overcome, the poignant feeling that she was being held paralyzed and
isolated from the world (and others) within a staid, middle class existence by some invisible and
nefarious external force. Moreover Oedipa struggles to understand why Pierce would name her the
executor of his will considering her deep ignorance of finance, ... Show more content on

To assess this vision of an American society heading towards stasis developed in The Crying of Lot
49, one must first discuss the concept of entropy.
Broadly speaking, entropy refers both to the level of disorder and uncertainty in a system. The concept
originates from thermodynamics, where it is used to describe the thermal energy in heat engine that is
unavailable to be converted into work (i.e. transferred through a change in form or location). The
second law of thermodynamics stipulates that within a self contained system like a heat engine, the
aggregate measure of entropy must remain the same or increase over time because with no external
energy inputs, the system s net energy flow gradually subsides as the gaps between its higher and
lower energy particles decrease through the transfer of heat as they interact. This diminishing gap
between particle energy levels, denoted in part by a stabilization in temperature and phase state (e.g.
solid, liquid, or gas), reflects the system s progression towards a state of thermodynamic equilibrium,
or maximum entropy, where particles regress into towards a uniform set of characteristics and
inertness as the net energy flow grows infinitesimal. In moving towards equilibrium the system also
becomes increasingly disordered because in losing their distinctiveness particles become fungible,
rendering attempts to impose order and coherence on the system by drawing relations and distinctions

Plessy V. Ferguson Case Study
In 1892, the Plessy v. Ferguson case had emerged from a conflict from Louisiana s Separate Car Act.
The law required that railroads have separate but equal accommodations, prohibiting African
American and White passengers from entering besides the one they were assigned to based on race.
Homer Plessy, a seven eighths White and one eighth African American bought a rail travel ticket in
Louisiana for the White car and took a seat. He was later told to move to the African American car,
after refusing to move he was arrested and charged for not complying with the Separate Car Act. In
the U.S. District Court, Judge John H. Ferguson dismissed Plessy s argument that the act was
unconstitutional. The majority who went with Associate Justice Henry Billings Brown jilted Plessy s
arguments that it opposed the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendment. The dissenting opinion was with
Associate Judge John Marshall Harlan who said that the court was neglecting the purpose of the
Separate Car Act, which said under the guise of giving equal accommodation for whites and blacks, to
compel the latter to keep to themselves while traveling in railroad passenger coaches. Plessy was
brought before the recorder of the city for preliminary examination and committed for trial to the ...

His arguments were that it violated the Thirteenth amendment, which prohibited slavery, and the
Fourteenth amendment, which granted equal rights. According to Associate Justice Henry Billing
Brown the Thirteenth amendment did not clash with the Act because it did not in any way restore
slavery. And for the Fourteenth amendment, he argued that the amendment only protected legal
equality, but not social equality. It was said that it was legally equal because accommodations were
provided for both races and it was the racial discrimination by the people it did not simply imply the

Themes in Literature
Often in literature there are common themes that occur throughout eras and genres to link two
otherwise different pieces of writing. One particular example of this occurrance can be seen in
Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale and William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew.
Although these works have been written in very different time periods and use separate styles, there
are two themes which link both stories and convey a very similar message. Strict societal roles and the
treatment of women in patriarchal societies are prevalent ideas in both Shakespeare s play and Atwood
s novel. These themes are approached and dealt with differently in each work, but ultimately convey
the same meaning. There are some aspects of humanity that are ... Show more content on

The Handmaid s Tale and The Taming of the Shrew offer very different views on the matter: Atwood
gives a more sympathetic and feminist outlook, whereas Shakespeare tends to lean towards misogyny.
In The Handmaid s Tale, the Gileadean government oppressesed the women of the country as the new
theocracy gains more power. Women are deprived of the right to vote, to have jobs, to hold money or
property, to have an education and even the right to read. Initially there is an angry outburst at this,
and the women fight to get their freedom back, but as the totalitarian state grows stronger, they find
that there is less and less that they are able to do about their predicament. Eventually, women are
reduced to being considered a national resource, valued for their wombs and ability to reproduce, and
seen as potential mothers rather than individuals. Rebellious behaviour is punished by death or
banishment to work in camps; cleaning up toxic waste, so the oppressed women are limited to the
smallest acts of rebellion, such as whispering among themselves when they are supposed to be silent.
The Taming of the Shrew was written during the Elizabethan Era in England, so most of the attitudes
towards women in the play are reflective of the established beliefs

Critical Challenges Facing Black Studies Essay
One of the most critical challenges facing Black Studies today is the need to rescue and exercise its
right to self definition and self determination with scholarship and vision and to reassess with rigor its
original paradigm in both theory and practice (Karenga, p.356). This statement by Maulana Karenga
in Black Studies and The Problematic of Paradigm: The Philosophical Dimension brings forth the
question from class, how do students and scholars of Africana Studies go about identifying and
making sense of their intellectual project? One way we see this being answered is through media, or
more specifically film. Living in a society where there is different forms of technology accessible to
people in every direction, people become less likely to research and read books about Africana
Studies. This form of Method in Africana Studies through film is one of many different ways to go
about understanding the complexity of Africana Studies but will come to find out later is still not
necessarily being taken seriously or seen by blacks at all. Ava DuVernay, an African American Woman
Filmmaker, makes short films featuring black people and different life situations. Her film The Door
depicts the power of sisterhood in times of struggle and sadness. Though these are situations women
of all different races experience, she chose to use black women and black people in this film and her
other films as well, while highlighting the many layers black people have. In an interview

Eye Motif in Night by Elie Wiesel
The Soul s Mirror Eyes have guided mankind throughout all history, whether they allowed us to
foresee danger or helped us find our loved ones. They have granted us sight over what would
otherwise be invisible to us. When looking at someone, one can tell how they are feeling by staring
into his or her eyes. Our eyes never lie. Our eyes will often mirror our souls and display our true inner
emotions. In Elie Wiesel s autobiographical narrative, Night, he uses the eye motif to portray
characters true souls. In some parts of the narrative, Night, Wiesel used eyes to display the hope and
positive emotion in characters. In the beginning of the story, eyes were used as an indication of Moche
the Beadle s calmness in the following quote. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His eyes show he is still alive, but his soul s essence is dimmed and now weak; he is near death. The
following event happens before a selection and Akiba Drumer instantly gives up hope. Suddenly his
eyes would become blank, nothing but two open wounds, two pits of terror (Wiesel 82). While Akiba
may still be physically alive, his eyes show how his soul is now dead and overwhelmed by terror; he is
now a mere walking corpse. Elie and his father are seeking shelter from the frozen temperature in the
brick factory in the next scene. His eyes were petrified, his lips withered, decayed (Wiesel 94). Elie s
father s eyes show how he has been reduced to a brittle stone that is about to crack. Elie Wiesel used
eyes as a motif in his narrative, Night, as windows to characters inner souls. He used eyes to assist the
theme of surviving at all costs throughout the story by giving the audience an insight of people s true
emotions and status. Without eyes, we would have been blind to see past characters outer layers of
fake emotion. There is more than the eye can see. One has to look deep into another s eyes to see the
true light or darkness within them.

  • 2. Biblical Symbols Of The Bible Throughout the Gospels, there are various symbols which have meanings that are harder to grasp from one reading alone. Many symbols in the Bible need deeper analyses and background knowledge to be able to fully understand and comprehend. Throughout the centuries, there have been countless attempts to decode and explain such symbols, some of which have been made by Origen of Alexandria. Origen proposed a threefold structure for the meanings of Scripture, and I will be using this structure to explain a passage found in the Bible to its greatest potential. Afterwards, I will be analyzing the symbol of kingdom using a technique that Smith has taught us. One meaning of Scripture, according to Origen, is the literal interpretation. This involves the body, narrative, and historical account of the meaning. One of the passages I will be analyzing is Mark 12:1 12, otherwise known as the Parable of the Tenants. In this passage, Jesus tells the chief priests, teachers of the law, and the elders a story of a man who planted a vineyard. To take this reading literally, you would assume it was just a story of this man, who sent servants to collect fruit from the vineyard and had them killed off or beaten, one by one. Quoted from Mark, At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty handed. Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Nature, The International Weekly Journal of Science No.7314 23 September, 2010). Researches done by Weimin Liu and associates to characterize Plasmodium species using DNA sequence in faecal samples from wild living apes indicated Plasmodium infections in Gorilla and Chimpanzees from the nearly 3000 specimens collected. These Plasmodium infections were prevalent in Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) and western gorillas (Gorilla gorilla), but not in gorilla found from the eastern part of central Africa known as Gorilla beringei and bonobos also known as Pan paniscus. The findings also indicated that ape plasmodial infections were highly prevalent, well distributed and is most of the time are made up of mixed parasites species. This interesting research findings shows that P. falciparum originated from gorilla and not chimpanzee, bonobo or even ancient human origin. • 5. Memory And Deep Memory During her talk, Ethel Sternberg said that it made her very happy when students took her memories and stored it in the back of their heads. Her words directly relate to Charlotte Delbo s differentiation between common and deep memory and how this impacts readers of the Holocaust. Common memory refers to works that are a factual retelling and more importantly, leave the reader undisturbed by the work. On the other hand, deep memory leaves an impression and affects the reader in some capacity. One of the challenges that a Holocaust survivor faces when writing about their experiences is invoking this deep memory. Ethel Sternberg referred as storing it in the back of their heads while Delbo always repeated, Il faut donner à voir or that they must be made to see . In order to transmit a sense of the unthinkable, such as the ambiguity of their survival and the reason for the Holocaust, writers have to make the reader feel the uncomfortable reality of this historical event. Authors such as Delbo, Appelfeld, Pagis, and Foer accomplish this by directly engaging their reader by offering no solution to the Holocaust and concluding on an ambivalent note. In this way, these writers elicit deep memory by not offering an answer to the Holocaust and forcing their readers to reconsider the ambiguous qualities of their writings. In Auschwitz and After, Delbo s Marie Louise establishes the issue of common memory and how individuals will assume that they understand the Holocaust. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s been decades even centuries and it seems like society s acceptance of interracial marriages is still very much frown upon. Since my arrival here in the United States, in the early 80s till even now, I have been told, by my parents, aunts, uncles, and relatives, to stay away from other ethnic groups because they don t understand our people, our language, our tradition, and our way of life. I would argue that we no longer live in Laos and we need to limit ourselves to old traditions or superstitions. That there are some many benefits, in America, to marrying someone of another race and culture. Some of the main benefits would be to break the racial barriers of discrimination, lessen hate crimes, and create a safer environment for our children, whether of mixed cultures or not. Firstly, it has been throughout history that interracial marriages are unacceptable or even illegal for two people of a different race to marry. A tradition that has been around for centuries until in 1958 the case of, Loving v. They have also stepped up attacks in their heartland, southern provinces. To defeat the insurgents, General McChrystal, the US commander in Kabul, has requested 40,000 additional troops and resources to persuade the moderate Taliban to abandon violence. But this strategy is likely to succeed only with the help from key regional states. Increased fatalities and dwindled public support have put pressure on President Obama to end the war quickly. From Pakistan s perspective, the Taliban jihadists trained in Pakistani madarsas and supported by the Inter Service Intelligence, the military spy agency will make the best allies in Kabul and help augment the anti Indian jihad in Kashmir. It was this complex social structure that allowed Jewish members of society to both able to maintain a separate identity during the Middle Ages through their sacred time, communal ties, literacy, and family ties, while still being acculturated into the society in which they lived. In Jewish culture, the Sabbath, or the day of rest is on Saturday, rather than Sunday like the Christians or Friday like their Muslim counterparts. By having a separate day entirely from their peers, the Sabbath publically demonstrated their separation of beliefs from those around them. The separate days of rest indicate the difference between the religions and thus create a separate identity for Jews because they have an entirely different day of worship. Moreover, in addition to the actual separation of days, the Sabbath sought to create a Jewish identity because the Sabbath immersed the Jewish people in a full day of worship and ritual based activities. For instance, leading up to Sabbath men and women had to partake in certain duties in order to prepare for the holy day of the week. Men and women were supposed to partake in ritual bathing before entering the synagogue, they were meant to read the Torah, and women were meant to light the candles (nerot) and make the challah bread for the Sabbath meal. The Sabbath meals were generally made by the wife or women of the home and eaten on Friday nights before the Sabbath day. At these meals, the family would thank God for the food at hand and remember that even though the temple was gone, that they were continuing Gods good work. Typically, the Sabbath meals were meant to have challah bread, wine, and meat if the family could afford it because the Sabbath meals were meant to be a good meal. These meals especially played a role in the creation of a separate Jewish identity because psychologically they reaffirmed to Jews that in this moment they were elite. No matter what had happened the week prior or what was about to happen in the week to come, the Sabbath meals offer a feeling of strength because it gathers those who love each other to break bread and unify together through their religion. Fuzzy skyline has been proposed to make the skyline more flexible. In particular, fuzzy skyline in [31] is considered and a flexible overcome relation is provided. This relationship makes it possible to extend skyline with points that are not highly dominated by any other points (even if they are strongly dominated). Yet, other methods arise to improve the skyline. A variety of fuzzy skyline methods are studied in [32]. In the paper, five incentives are raised to fuzzify the skyline. The first motivation is to refine the skyline with the introduction of a sequence of points to find the best skyline points. The second is to make the skyline more flexible. This means that where points conditions are close to the skyline points, they are also considered as members of the skyline. In the third case, the skyline can become easier with different methods. Discriminating against the disabled people is not good for the country s development. • 23. Analysis Of Voltaire s Candide Candide is a French satire that was first published in 1759 by Voltaire, who was a philosopher during the Enlightenment Age. It is a story about a young man, Candide, who is a follower of Leibnizian optimism. Candide witnesses and experiences many hardships in the world that puts his life at risk and tests the strength of his beliefs. During Candide s many adventures, he faces many historical events that Voltaire uses to simplify subtle philosophies and cultural traditions, by highlighting their many flaws. This essay will discuss the ways that the various context of settings work in a satirical literature. Throughout the story, Voltaire uses optimisms folly as his main satirical target. The characters Candide and his philosophy professor Pangloss are devoted followers of the Leibnizian teachings of optimism. They both maintain that, everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds . (CITE). This idea is a simplified version of many philosophies from a number of Enlightenment philosophers, most notably Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz. To many of these thinkers, the presence of any evil in the world is a sign that God is not entirely good, or is not at all powerful. But, the idea of an imperfect God is irrational. These philosophers established that since God is perfect, the world he created must also be perfect, and that those who perceive the worlds imperfections simply to do not understand Gods grand plan. As Demian pushed the wooden door... The door hinges screeched and a huge colony of bats flew out from the door showing their incisors. The surgeon room was ready for the experiment. The only light source was the flames dancing and swirling. In the room there was an antique bed supported by thin rusted iron bars and an electric generator. Gage laid down on the fluffy bed next to the bloodless corpse. A graveolent rot odor diffused in the air. The thin walls were covered with patterned broken to pieces wallpaper. It was a large room, were you could feel the dark force of something. Perhaps they are spirits. Pictures on walls stared at you menacingly. Demian tied his legs and hands. Starting with the initial fire detection and continuing to the eventual suppression of the fire, events unfolded in manner that heavily stacked the chips against fire fighters of Philadelphia. Even though this was a tragedy of immense proportions, there are lessons to be learned and behaviors to be rectified through a thorough study. • 27. Examples Of Bravery In The Odyssey Homer s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, is a classic literature piece written originally in ancient Greece. The book is an epic poem about the hero Odysseus perils and his journey back home after being held away for twenty years. While this is taking place, his son, Telamakhos tries to find his father and gain his place in adulthood. To fully find self respect, Telamakhos must overcome the suitors that have taken over his father s house. Both men commit acts of heroism and bravery throughout the poem. In the case of the landmarks, in both of the mental maps I have objects that catch my attention in my everyday routes as things I distinguish in the landscape. Consequently, in both maps my paths are defined on the nodes of my life, which have led to these objects becoming landmarks for me. Meanwhile when it comes to considering how I got from point A to point B in each map it is very different. In Mexico City every single place I traveled meant that I needed to drive or be driven around since distances are relatively long compared to Austin. This meant that the places that I considered to be important for me are more scattered around my mental map. For Austin, most of my activities take part in a smaller region since the mode of transportation I primarily use is walking, therefore the distances I cover are much shorter than in my past. At this point, 20% of the Hero team can dynamically use the analytics we currently offer. We took the top customers making up 80% of our annual revenue and projected out their volume by SKU, by month and kept a rolling 12 months of inventory planning based on each customer s growth objectives. The creation of the secret police and the establishment of the gulags and labour camps, are signs that Lenin had created a successful totalitarian state, and could assert physical control over the people. The introduction of War Communism during the Russian Civil War, is evidence of Russian moving towards a Totalitarian State. Many aspects of War communism were totalitarian in nature. For instance the creation of a Supreme Economic Council, formed to take complete control over the Russian highlights the central control over the most vital aspect of the state, that the Bolsheviks enforced. Other measures include the requisitioning of excess grain from the Peasants. Many of these policies were met with opposition, particularly among the agricultural peasants. This opposition was in turn met with brutal force, which was another example of the nature of complete state authority. War communism continued on until the end of the Civil war, by which time the Bolshevik forces had succeeded in crushing all opposition. The success of the red forces meant that Russia was a step closer in becoming a Totalitarian state, as they were now the most powerful party in Russia, with complete control over all its territory. Upon the creation of the USSR, Lenin introduced new rule that would ensure greater totalitarian control. His desire for effective expression is shown when he sought fit words, and tried to see if thence would flow (5, 7). Both poets are inhibited by their tendency to censor and over analyze their work, thus preventing themselves from free expression. Luckily, both poets come to a realization that the only way to truly express themselves is to write from their heart. The diction in Hidden Heart helps create imagery and a tone that is characteristic of what the poet is feeling. The words bleed, stain, and wound, all connect to paint a picture of pain. Bleed and wound are used to illustrate the temporary nature of Natalie s anxiety during the writing process, while stain emphasizes the permanent quality of the letter and the importance of its effectiveness (1,2). Definitely, companies could choose different one or more above dimensions strive to develop quality to be competitive priority. For different types of companies, quality might refer to quality of products or quality of service. In sociology, we observed a film called The Pursuit Happyness, where we witnessed the struggles a father went through to succeed. Chris Gardner, who was played by Will Smith, is living in his apartment with his wife and his son. Due to their struggles, the mother walks out on and leaves Chris struggling alone with his son. In the film Chris Gardner applies for an unpaid internship for a competitive stockbroker company where out of twenty men, only one gets the job. While he is on his internship, we see the hardships of getting kicked out of his apartment to staying at a shelter home to then sleeping in a subway bathroom with his son. Viewing the movie through a sociological lens, The Pursuit of Happyness will be analyzed according to the major three sociological paradigms: structural functionalism, social conflict theory, and symbolic interactionalism. As the movie begins, a structural functionalist would identify the social institutions involved. One of the first institutions introduced is family. The spouse of Chris Gardner is not satisfied with the amount of income coming he is earning. This illuminates the role of all Liberal and Democratic governments. In Liberalism and Democracy, the government derives its power from its citizens and is supposed to represent their needs and desires. The purpose of government is to protect individuals and their rights. Furthermore, the more relevant and problematic the social and political issues are within a country, the more imperative it is for the government to establish policies to remedy the issues. According to Pape, this is the underlying philosophy of terrorist organizations and what ultimately fuels terrorism. Extremist groups seek to instill fear among citizens to prompt the governments to adopt policies that the extremists desire. The key premise of Dying to Win is that terrorism is not irrational, but rather just one among a number of political strategies. Terrorist organizations are guided by the aspiration to achieve a particular goal; to expel a foreign army from their territory and to instill fear in societies around the world to prevent a military invasion. • 41. Literary Devices Used In The Raven By Edgar Allen Poe Matthew Hylton ENG 200 030 December 7, 2017 The Raven Edgar Allen Poe The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe is a first person narrative poem that is truly a dark poem of one s sanity when losing a loved one. The poem is eighteen stanzas long that contains 108 lines. The poem uses many literary and poetic devices to help construct the eerie atmosphere. Poe begins the poem by describing a setting that symbolizes darkness and death perfectly Once upon a midnight dreary (1). Poe uses an internal rhyme to heighten the effect of the setting. He does this to foreshadow the events that happen later on in the poem, that the reader will soon begin to understand the dreariness of the setting. Poe is a mastermind of using these devices to draw the reader in and help them understand the narrator on a deeper level during the reading of the poem. As stanza one continues, Poe uses an alliteration in line 3 of the poem, While I nodded, nearly napping (3), by using the repetition of the n sound throughout the stanza I would argue he is trying to build suspense of the narrator answering the door. Poe uses many rhyme schemes throughout the poem to give a bigger meaning to each word. The first stanza is no different. Poe uses many internal rhymes in the stanza, but even uses an end rhyme in lines 2, 3, 4, and 5. He uses the rhyme scheme ABCBBB in the first stanza. As Poe continues, the narrator begins to remember his lost loved one Lenore . Poe begins to go darker into the poem creating an even larger suspense, and added dramatic effect as the narrator slowly approaches the door to open it. Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December; (6) Poe is using symbolism again to further his dark atmosphere that he created in the first stanza. Poe is trying to get the reader to understand the severity of the narrator s depression about Lenore . Poe in the very next line continues his emphasis on the eeriness that is this poem s atmosphere. By describing the embers of the fire going out, he is creating an image of darkness soon approaching. Because once the embers go out, the light goes out. I would argue that Poe is foreshadowing even more of what will happen later in the poem. As the stanza continues, you soon realize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Shakespeare Uses Manipulation, Lies, And Deceit Shakespeare Uses Manipulation, Lies, and Deceit Many people believe lying is just a bad habit, but that is not true. Lying is a part of human nature, no matter if it is a big or small lie, everyone has lied before ( Lying: Bad Habit Or Human Nature? ). Everyone has different reasons for deceiving others, but that does not change the fact that everyone has lied at some point. Human nature keeps the world from achieving complete perfection, and Shakespeare allows this idea to be the foundation that his plays build off of. The human nature of deception is found as a common theme in Shakespeare s Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing. Shakespeare uses these plays to communicate to his audiences that sometimes in order to find the truth you have to use trickery and manipulation; thus creating the idea that deception can be evil or harmless depending on the circumstances and the intentions of those who are trying to decieve. Hamlet elucidates the dangers that deception can provoke in relationships and shows the consequences of lying. Shakespeare shows his tangled opinions about deception throughout Much Ado About Nothing by using manipulation to help benefit others and destroy relationships; this allows Shakespeare to further show his idea that deception can be used for good and evil. One of Shakespeare s main themes that is seen throughout many of his plays is deception; this brings more dramatic components to the audience. Hamlet is a play that is solely created around a world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Great Depression During The Depression Great Depression DBQ The Great Depression, however inevitable, took people by surprise when the stock market crashed in 1929. At first people did not fully understand the state of the economy, they could not wrap their heads around the transition from popping champagne bottles to eating bread crumbs for dinner. People were expecting a quick fix to the problem, assuming their lives to go back to normal after a few months, ultimately underestimating the situation America was in. As a result, no one was prepared to properly combat the extreme shortage of food, jobs, and money in the years to come. One of the first resources to go during the depression was food, partially due to the lack of money to afford it and the almost impossible production of it due to the Dust Bowl. During the early stages of the depression people were still holding out for a miracle to revive their economy because of this many individuals tried to live as they did before instead of trying to conserve food for later, ultimately exhausting their pantry. A photograph taken by H.W. Felchner in 1932 depicts a long line of people wrapping around a corner waiting for a meal at a restaurant. The picture also accurately illustrates the desperation of the people in like waiting for anything to eat, as they ate all their food at home. Because many of the American People were not prepared for the depression to strike, and some were just in plain deniable of the current situation, most of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Pynchon’s Vision of America in The Crying of Lot 49 Essay First published in 1965, The Crying of Lot 49 is the second novel by American author Thomas Pynchon. The novel follows Oedipa Mass, a young Californian housewife, after she unexpectedly finds herself named the executrix of the estate of Californian real estate mogul, and ex boyfriend, Pierce Inverarity. In reflecting on their history together, Oedipa recalls how her travels with Pierce helped her acknowledge, but not overcome, the poignant feeling that she was being held paralyzed and isolated from the world (and others) within a staid, middle class existence by some invisible and nefarious external force. Moreover Oedipa struggles to understand why Pierce would name her the executor of his will considering her deep ignorance of finance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To assess this vision of an American society heading towards stasis developed in The Crying of Lot 49, one must first discuss the concept of entropy. Broadly speaking, entropy refers both to the level of disorder and uncertainty in a system. The concept originates from thermodynamics, where it is used to describe the thermal energy in heat engine that is unavailable to be converted into work (i.e. transferred through a change in form or location). The second law of thermodynamics stipulates that within a self contained system like a heat engine, the aggregate measure of entropy must remain the same or increase over time because with no external energy inputs, the system s net energy flow gradually subsides as the gaps between its higher and lower energy particles decrease through the transfer of heat as they interact. This diminishing gap between particle energy levels, denoted in part by a stabilization in temperature and phase state (e.g. solid, liquid, or gas), reflects the system s progression towards a state of thermodynamic equilibrium, or maximum entropy, where particles regress into towards a uniform set of characteristics and inertness as the net energy flow grows infinitesimal. In moving towards equilibrium the system also becomes increasingly disordered because in losing their distinctiveness particles become fungible, rendering attempts to impose order and coherence on the system by drawing relations and distinctions between ... • 46. Plessy V. Ferguson Case Study In 1892, the Plessy v. Ferguson case had emerged from a conflict from Louisiana s Separate Car Act. The law required that railroads have separate but equal accommodations, prohibiting African American and White passengers from entering besides the one they were assigned to based on race. Homer Plessy, a seven eighths White and one eighth African American bought a rail travel ticket in Louisiana for the White car and took a seat. He was later told to move to the African American car, after refusing to move he was arrested and charged for not complying with the Separate Car Act. In the U.S. District Court, Judge John H. Ferguson dismissed Plessy s argument that the act was unconstitutional. The majority who went with Associate Justice Henry Billings Brown jilted Plessy s arguments that it opposed the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendment. The dissenting opinion was with Associate Judge John Marshall Harlan who said that the court was neglecting the purpose of the Separate Car Act, which said under the guise of giving equal accommodation for whites and blacks, to compel the latter to keep to themselves while traveling in railroad passenger coaches. Plessy was brought before the recorder of the city for preliminary examination and committed for trial to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Associate Justice Henry Billing Brown the Thirteenth amendment did not clash with the Act because it did not in any way restore slavery. It was said that it was legally equal because accommodations were provided for both races and it was the racial discrimination by the people it did not simply imply the inferiority of a ... • 47. Themes in Literature Often in literature there are common themes that occur throughout eras and genres to link two otherwise different pieces of writing. One particular example of this occurrance can be seen in Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale and William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew. Although these works have been written in very different time periods and use separate styles, there are two themes which link both stories and convey a very similar message. Strict societal roles and the treatment of women in patriarchal societies are prevalent ideas in both Shakespeare s play and Atwood s novel. These themes are approached and dealt with differently in each work, but ultimately convey the same meaning. There are some aspects of humanity that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Handmaid s Tale and The Taming of the Shrew offer very different views on the matter: Atwood gives a more sympathetic and feminist outlook, whereas Shakespeare tends to lean towards misogyny. In The Handmaid s Tale, the Gileadean government oppressesed the women of the country as the new theocracy gains more power. Women are deprived of the right to vote, to have jobs, to hold money or property, to have an education and even the right to read. Initially there is an angry outburst at this, and the women fight to get their freedom back, but as the totalitarian state grows stronger, they find that there is less and less that they are able to do about their predicament. Eventually, women are reduced to being considered a national resource, valued for their wombs and ability to reproduce, and seen as potential mothers rather than individuals. Rebellious behaviour is punished by death or banishment to work in camps; cleaning up toxic waste, so the oppressed women are limited to the smallest acts of rebellion, such as whispering among themselves when they are supposed to be silent. The Taming of the Shrew was written during the Elizabethan Era in England, so most of the attitudes towards women in the play are reflective of the established beliefs ... • 51. Critical Challenges Facing Black Studies Essay One of the most critical challenges facing Black Studies today is the need to rescue and exercise its right to self definition and self determination with scholarship and vision and to reassess with rigor its original paradigm in both theory and practice (Karenga, p.356). This statement by Maulana Karenga in Black Studies and The Problematic of Paradigm: The Philosophical Dimension brings forth the question from class, how do students and scholars of Africana Studies go about identifying and making sense of their intellectual project? One way we see this being answered is through media, or more specifically film. Living in a society where there is different forms of technology accessible to people in every direction, people become less likely to research and read books about Africana Studies. This form of Method in Africana Studies through film is one of many different ways to go about understanding the complexity of Africana Studies but will come to find out later is still not necessarily being taken seriously or seen by blacks at all. Ava DuVernay, an African American Woman Filmmaker, makes short films featuring black people and different life situations. Her film The Door depicts the power of sisterhood in times of struggle and sadness. Though these are situations women of all different races experience, she chose to use black women and black people in this film and her other films as well, while highlighting the many layers black people have. • 52. Eye Motif in Night by Elie Wiesel The Soul s Mirror Eyes have guided mankind throughout all history, whether they allowed us to foresee danger or helped us find our loved ones. They have granted us sight over what would otherwise be invisible to us. When looking at someone, one can tell how they are feeling by staring into his or her eyes. Our eyes never lie. Our eyes will often mirror our souls and display our true inner emotions. In Elie Wiesel s autobiographical narrative, Night, he uses the eye motif to portray characters true souls. In some parts of the narrative, Night, Wiesel used eyes to display the hope and positive emotion in characters. In the beginning of the story, eyes were used as an indication of Moche the Beadle s calmness in the following quote. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His eyes show he is still alive, but his soul s essence is dimmed and now weak; he is near death. The following event happens before a selection and Akiba Drumer instantly gives up hope. Suddenly his eyes would become blank, nothing but two open wounds, two pits of terror (Wiesel 82). While Akiba may still be physically alive, his eyes show how his soul is now dead and overwhelmed by terror; he is now a mere walking corpse. Elie and his father are seeking shelter from the frozen temperature in the brick factory in the next scene. His eyes were petrified, his lips withered, decayed (Wiesel 94). Elie s father s eyes show how he has been reduced to a brittle stone that is about to crack. Elie Wiesel used eyes as a motif in his narrative, Night, as windows to characters inner souls. He used eyes to assist the theme of surviving at all costs throughout the story by giving the audience an insight of people s true emotions and status. Without eyes, we would have been blind to see past characters outer layers of fake emotion. There is more than the eye can see. One has to look deep into another s eyes to see the true light or darkness within them. Works Cited Wiesel, Elie. Night. Austin: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
