Dualism and Artificial Intelligence
Mind body dualism is usually seen as the central issue in philosophy of the mind. The problem with
mind body dualism is that it is unknown whether the mind really is a separate entity from the human
body as Descartes states in his argument, or whether the mind is the brain itself. Descartes believed
that in a person existed two major components, the physical body and the nonphysical body which
was called the mind or soul. As a scientist, Descartes believed in mechanical theories of matter,
however, he was also very religious and did not believe people could merely be mechanical creatures
that ran like clockwork. And so, it was Descartes who argued that the mind directed thoughts. To
account for this, he split the world into two parts, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Turing, a physicalist, believed that artificial intelligence could be achieved in the future. Turing argued
that the mind was merely due to the physical aspects of the brain and so a machine could one day be
created that has a mind of its own, i.e. artificial intelligence. He created a test called the Turing Test to
determine whether a machine has artificial intelligence. In the Turing Test, an interrogator asks two
subjects a series of questions. One of the subjects is a person, the other is the computer. The goal is for
the person to imitate a computer and the computer to imitate the person. If the interrogator is fooled
into thinking that the computer is the human then the computer, according to Turing, is concluded to
have the ability to think and thus, have a mind. Turing argued that machines passing the Turing Test
were sufficient for ascribing thought. There were those who did not agree with Turing s belief that
computers would one day pass the Turing Test or that artificial intelligence could be created. A
philosopher by the name of Lady Lovlace challenged Turing s theory. She argued that machines could
never learn and adapt and so nothing creative could ever come from a machine. She claimed that

Tournique And Obstetric Analysis
What are tourniquets use for:
According to Naimer (2014), acute hemorrhage occurs in 50 % of the battlefield death and 30% of
causality who died from excess bleeding. The use of tourniquets is an effective means of arresting life
threatening external hemorrhage from a limb injury. The first reported use of a tourniquet was a
French army surgeon called Etienne Morel in 1674. Thus, the word tourniquet originated from French
word call toner meaning to turn. A tourniquet is a constricting or compressing device use as a bandage
to control venous and arterial circulation to an extremity for a period. Pressure is applied
circumferentially to the skin and underlying tissues of a limb. Thus this weight is transferred to the
walls of the vessels, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, continuous application of tourniquets for longer than 2 hours can result in permanent
nerve injury, muscle injury (including contractures, rhabdomyolysis, and compartment syndrome),
vascular injury and skin necrosis. Muscle damage is nearly complete by 6 hours, with possible
required amputation. Numerous studies have been performed to determine the maximum duration of
tourniquet use before complications. The general conclusion is that a tourniquet can be left in place for
2 hours with little risk of permanent ischemic injury (Lee, C., Porter, K. M. 2007). Moreover,
compartment syndrome may develop with prolonged tourniquet use, although this is rare. It can have
catastrophic consequences if not recognized and decompressed, early. According to Hampson and
Pinatadosi (2015), reported on seven cases of compartment syndrome, following total knee
replacement. Of these cases, six had loss of function of one compartment and the seventh required
amputation. Delay in diagnosis and decompression was standard to these cases. In five of these cases,
the delay was thought to be due to the use of postoperative epidural infusion for pain relief. Very
rarely, rhabdomyolysis has been reported, generally where tourniquet duration was longer than 4 hours

Sex Worker On The Red Light District
If you disrespect prostitutes, you disrespect all women said Metje Blaak, advocate and union member
for sex workers within the red light district (qtd. In Cruz). And, she is right. Being able to rent women
allows men to feel as if they are in possession of the workers. Many times, feelings of possession can
lead to sexual harassment toward women on, and off, the district by tourist feeling as though they are
entitled to a women s body.
That being said, prostitution in Amsterdam is much different than prostitution anywhere else in the
world. Being able to understand what a sex worker on the red light district encounters on a day to day
basis, as well as the history of prostitution can give one a better understanding of the controversial
ground that is the Red Light District (Aalbers). Being of moral and political controversy, it is no shock
that the district leaves such an impression on natives and tourists alike.
Amsterdam legalized prostitution in 2000. The objective of legalization was to ensure that the
government could monitor working condition and wages of those who claim prostitute on their tax
form (Cruz). Prostitution was readily available in Amsterdam long before its legalization. The
government chose to legalize the activity to protect the women, as well as establish a unique tourist
environment that would drive the economy to where it is today. The overall culture found within the
red light district praises sexual empowerment of all genders and

Shiloh Analysis
Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach. In the book, Shiloh, Marty
Preston experienced a situation in which he needed to heed these wise words, quoted by Tony Robins.
Ever since Marty found the meager and bashful dog he named Shiloh, he had loved, nurtured, and
protected him. However, despite these facts, Shiloh s owner Judd, a cruel and lying man, refused to let
Marty keep him. Shiloh and Marty s relationship flourished during their time together and Marty
simply could not bear allowing Judd to take back and mistreat the dog. When faced with an
opportunity to keep Shiloh, Marty believed he had no choice but to capitalize on it. On his way over to
reason with Judd, Marty accidently observed Judd shoot a peaceful ... Show more content on

The hatred he showed toward Marty, proved all the more reason not to negotiate with him. Marty
simply lacked the proof to trust and deal with Judd. On the contrary, some people believe Marty
should have made a deal with Judd. They claim that Marty greatly desired to keep Shiloh for his own
and needed to take every chance he came upon to do that. However, this belief is irrelevant, because
while the two deeply loved each other, Shiloh rightfully belonged to Judd. Judd bought Shiloh with his
money and therefore Marty had no right to take him for his own. Along with this, people also argue
that Judd signed the deal making it firm. This argument also remains inadequate because Marty knew
virtually nothing about creating a firm deal. Judd did indeed sign a paper bag marking the deal,
however, Marty lacked a witness and trust in Judd. Judd s signature meant nothing in causing the deal
to remain strong. In fact, it instead caused much more pain for Marty. Neither of these opposing
arguments that Marty desired to keep Shiloh, and that Judd signed a deal prove any adequate excuse
for Marty to make a hasty and foolish deal with a cruel and untrustworthy

finds a devastating secret about his brother Frank, his father s favorite son. The Father is willing to do
whatever he can to keep Frank as a perfect son, even going against the law and his own son. Wesley is
stuck between family and the law, and it s affecting his family enormously. His Father s power over
the town negatively influences many characters in the book. In Montana 1948, Larry Watson

Dreams In Sandra Cisneros s The House On Mango Street
During the novel, The House on Mango Street, author Sandra Cisneros relives a childhood similar to
hers, where the main purpose of life is having the ability to dream. Most characters that live on Mango
Street, such as Esperanza Cordero, dream of having a better life and deserting their past of poverty and
struggle. Cisneros constantly makes this apparent to the reader because without struggle and pain, the
reward of escaping the neighborhood is not as meaningful. Throughout the novel, The House on
Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros develops the subject of dreaming through Esperanza s relationships
female family members, the symbol of writing, and the motif of houses. To begin, Cisneros develops
Esperanza s relationship with her mother and her friend, Alicia, in order to promote the fact that
leaving a community like Mango Street is possible. These minor characters do not play a huge role in
Esperanza s life, yet they unknowingly show her that it was, and still is possible to get out. Alicia is
significant to Esperanza because she proves that it is possible to make it to college. When Esperanza
hears that Alicia studies for the first time at the university (Cisneros 31), she sets this in her mind as an
example of what she is capable of. Her mom also tells her that she could ve been somebody (90).

Difference Between Deep Ecology And Western Worldview
Every person has a different way of viewing the world that is based on what a our simple beliefs are
and with our basic beliefs and values. We are able to make sense of the world and to gain an
understanding of knowing where our place and purpose in the world, through this we are able to
choose between the behaviours of right and wrong. This is called the western worldview, where we
have an understanding of being placed in the world that is based on human dominance over nature, the
restricted use of natual resources, and increased economic growth to manage an expanding industrial
base (Linda R. Berg, 2008 ).
Western Worldviews on the Environment
When it comes to the environmental beliefs there two main worldviews, the Western worldview and
the deep ecology worldview. Although both of these worldviews are broad generalizations (Linda R.
Berg, 2008 ) they are at opposite ends of a range of different worldviews that are related to the the
issues of global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Together, along with philospher George Sessions they discuss how deep ecology is an understanding
of knowing where we stand as humans in the world alongside nature and spiritual respect for life. It is
also knowing that both humans and other species are of equal earth (Linda R. Berg, 2008 , p. 32).
Unlike the Westen worldview, the deep ecology worldview constitutes an extreme shift in how
humankind can relate themselves to the environment (Linda R. Berg, 2008 , p. 32). Deep ecology
expressess that humans are no different to other species on the earth and that everything that breaths
life have the right to exist. It challenges individuals and cultures to share the same inner spirituality
that is connected to the natural world, but many people in this day in age have not embraced the
Western worldview or the deep ecology

Richard II was a king of England, but his failures attracted more interests from different parties. Most
of the other rulers renowned in the world have fame for being successful in their rule. However,
Richard II was known for his failures and inadequacies during his rule. Richard was king when he was

was the Earl of Oxford and made him the duke of Ireland. Richard II was aware of the challenges that

arguments were done by force (Charlton, Tonks, Mclelland, Coats,Thompson, Sims Saeed, 2016).
After the defeat of De Vere at the Radcot Bridge, Richard was defenseless. By 1387, there were some
of his opponents who felt that Richard II was worth being replaced by another person who understood
the needs of the citizens. It was in 1388 when the Merciless Parliament purged the government. The
parliament used power to ensure that the government was impeached mainly those people that were
Richard s favorites operating in the state. The event angered Richard II so that he was determined to

Melissa Mccarthy Case Study
The new member of the Ghostbusters team, Melissa McCarthy, is not a fan of labeling clothes as plus

majority of women in America the feeling of not being good enough. Women come in all sizes.
Seventy percent of women in the United States are a size 14 or above, and that s technically plus size,

Why are women being segregated into different categories? The 44 year old, mother of two believes
fashion designers should create apparel for all women and do away with labels. I just think, if you re

Light of Marco s Role in the Play, How Helpful Do You Find this
Introduction to Him?
When considering this question, it is necessary to somewhat challenge it; to whom is Miller s
description meant to be helpful? As A View
From the Bridge is a play, and therefore presented to an audience, we must presume that the
description s intended use is to instruct an actor developing his character which is to be conveyed to
an audience.
Marco s role becomes more important throughout the play. In fact, his role assumes a certain duality.
In one respect, he is the victim of
Eddie s betrayal; he declares: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is very contrasting to Marco s later disgust and hatred of Eddie, but this is because Marco s role
is very much to represent the typical culture, belief and attitudes of Sicilian males, and to embody the
ideals of this culture, where betrayal to the family is the main crime that a man can commit.
Physical strength and prowess is also a key component of this culture, a quality which Miller exhibits
in Marco. Square built evokes connotations of strength for many members of the audience. Strength
becomes an important idea in the play, as Eddie is defeated by Marco in the physical competition
concerning the two chairs (p 58) for example. This victory of Marco s strength is given great
importance as it closes the first act of the play, thereby also giving importance to
Sicilian family values: it is Marco s loyalty to Rodolpho, his brother, which prompts this act of
defiance against Eddie.
As Marco s supremacy over Eddie is established further by several means, for example the chair
incident, the force and power of his opinion and strength also grows, and his attitude towards Eddie
changes. Indeed, at the end of act one, though thinly veiled, there is the competition between the two
males, showing that Marco is
suspicious of Eddie:

The Animals, By And The Dove Flew Out Of The Dark
At first, The Animals may seem as a dark poem, that has no connections to reality. Jacobsen s use of
animals as humans detaches the two worlds from each other, giving the reader a sense of indifference.
However through Jacobsen s word choice and tone we can see that The Animals has a strong tie to the
bible. This is conveyed through Jacobsen s use of biblical phrases and words, such as Sanctus and the
dove flew out of the dark.
The Bible is a collection of texts sacred in Christianity and Judaism. The life of Jesus is shown in the
New Testament, showing Jesus s birth and death. Jesus was portrayed as the central figure of
Christianity, symbolizing peace and reformation. Jesus went through 5 major transitions during his
presence: Baptism, Transfiguration, Crucifixion, Resurrection and Ascension. However, The Animals
shows more focus towards Jesus s Baptism, Transfiguration, and Crucifixion. The Crucifixion of Jesus
comes with mourn, along with hope for a better society and world. Aside from the story of Jesus, the
Bible is also comprised of the Noah s Ark story. In Noah s Ark, god is described to have given a task
to Noah, in order to build an ark. Therefore saving Noah, Noah s family, and a variety of animals.
However on Noah s journey there was a great flood and sent a dove, which returned back with an
olive leaf.
Throughout the first stanza of the poem, Jesus s actions are shown through the actions of the animals.
The stanza is written to build up suspense for

The Trolley Problem Of The Monist
Judith Jarvis Thomson presents an ethical dilemma entitled The Trolley Problem in The Monist. The
problem describes a situation in which a trolley car is moving quickly and out of control on a train
track towards five people who are tied to the tracks; you have the power to pull a lever, change the
direction of the trolley car and save those five people at the expense of the life of one person who is on
the track the car was diverted to (Thomson 1397). The choice to be made is not just about whether or
not one should pull the lever though. The problem dictates a choice about whether one would kill, in
the case of choosing to pull the lever to kill the one person and save the five, or letting die, in which
case nothing is done and the five are killed because of the lack of action taken (Thomson 1398).
Thomson believes it would be incorrect to turn the trolley and willingly choose to kill one person,
rather than allow the five to die, but the philosophies of Immanuel Kant and John Stewart Mill must
be analyzed to determine whether they would agree with Thomson, or have a different view from
Thomson as well as one another. When considering J.J. Thomson s Trolley Problem, the philosophies
of Kant and Mill must be fully analyzed and expressed to determine the most plausible perspective to
be taken by both philosophers on the issue. There are strengths, weaknesses and criticisms of both
ethical arguments, and these will be considered as well in the analysis. The ethical

How Sports Can Help Someone Out Socially
1) Sports have played an important role in my life ever since I was very young. Because of sports, I
am very confident in myself. Although many people believe sports are just to have fun and stay active,
I believe that their influence leaves more behind. I believe that playing sports can help someone out
socially, physically, and mentally. Participating in sports has completely and utterly transformed me
into the person that I am today.
2) I believe playing sports can help many people throughout their long life and also through many
years of school. Trophies, gold medals, and awards are a few reasons why you might play a sport, but
there is something else that you can also gain in trying to achieve your goal. All the work you put in
for a particular sport can set you up for success and also can set you up for failure, but it can also leave
you with something that you will remember for the rest of your life.
3) An event that changed my way of life was the world swimming championship in 2011 in Shanghai.
I was 15 years old when I competed. Participation in this event gave me hope that I could fulfill my
dream, the dream of all athletes, to participate in the Olympic Games. After the world swimming
championship I was more dedicated to my swimming and my school. So far, my life has gone the way
I hoped it would and I have accomplished many of the goals that I have set out to achieve.

Executive Summary Slide This presentation will reveal the reasons why government intervention was
required in the 1920 s, and provide its evolution from its inception to current day challenges. The
summary slides above will highlight various topics that will be covered in this presentation backed by
supporting research and analysis.
1. Describe the intervention and detail its history.
Social security was created out of necessity by the United States of America (US) government. One
primary cause attributing to this necessity was due to better health care and sanitation, and the
development of effective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Analyze the arguments for government intervention as opposed to arguments for market based
solutions. Hint: See the information in our course textbook on market failures.
Without government intervention, the US economy would have continued to be devastated based on
the millions of Americans who lost their jobs, savings disappearances, and the senior citizens having
no source of income when they reached retirement age, (Koba, 2013). The market could not correct
itself from as the Gross National Product was almost cut in half from 1929 to 1932, where recovery
efforts without government intervention would be next to impossible.
3. Examine who may be helped and who may be hurt by the selected government intervention.
Social Security has helped the elderly receive income during their retirement years, and has helped
those who have disabilities from accidents and other disabilities to supplement their income sources.
Social Security takes a portion of income from workers paychecks each month, and pay those
individuals a retirement income based on when they elect to retire and receive this income. This
income makes up of more than half the retirement income of more than 75 percent of retired
Americans, and continues to help households with their daily living expenses by injecting funds back
into the economy (Osterland, 2014). Oddly enough,

Reflection Paper On Service Learning
My service Learning Project I had the opportunity to volunteer with Health Sciences Charter High
School which is a local school that academically challenges the learning environment preparing them
to communicate effectively, think and reason critically, value diversity, in which is founded by local
healthcare industry and strive for their students to become productive and valued members of the
community. The school is located in a generally low income neighborhood and children in need on the
East Side of Buffalo area. Health Science organizes afterschool programs, along with having programs
that pushed their students beyond.
Service learning is a lot more than helping someone for the sake of it, it is a process of involving
yourself in community service activities engaging and learning while combined with facilitated means
by being able to apply the experience to academic and personal development. A good service learning
partnership is mutually beneficial, with both the learning goals of the course and the needs of the
community partner being met. Being at Health Science charter school has taught me the importance of
culturally relevant teachers along with role models students are able to talk to interact not just have
taught them for six hours of a day. Being there showed me I had stereotypes of the school being in the
area but going there and seeing those students has reduced the stereotypes that I had made and gain a

The Difference of Warfare between World War 1 and World War 2
World War Warfare was one of the greatest examples of technological advancement and strategic
challenge, with the introduction of inventions such as the aircraft and the tank the battlefield
transformed from attrition as scene in the early years of the war to decisive by the end of the war.
Naval Warfare
World War 1
While the naval war is usually known for only little attention in histories of World War I, the Royal
Navy s blockade of Germany played a dangerous role in the War. The U.S. Navy linking with the
Royal Navy played a significant role in overcoming the German U boats in the North Atlantic. The
Germany Navy while technically effective disastrously diminished the German war effort. Germany s
building of a High Seas Fleet was one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Afterwards the Japanese strike on Pearl Harbor, the US joined the clash. With them, they brought
potentially substantial naval resources, along the great Royal Navy. However, the war in the Pacific
relied heavily on US naval attendance which in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor had seen the US fail to
keep a number of battleships. So, naval warfare in WW2 had many innovations. The aircraft carrier
was the most noteworthy and became the most potent naval assets which the Allies gained an
increasing monopoly in. However, submarines were also deadly in Europe and the Pacific against
merchant and supply ships. The human torpedoes of the Italian Malali were possibly the most
innovative, and were also effective enough to influence the Royal Navy to research human torpedoes
themselves.
Air Warfare
World War 1
At the start of World War One bomb aiming was crude in the extreme. The pilot or co pilot if the
aircraft carried two people simply dropped a small bomb over the side of the aircraft in the general
direction of a target. If a bomb dropped anywhere near a target it was through good luck more than
anything else. By the end of the war aircraft that could be recognized as long range bombers had been
developed. Much larger than fighters, and far less maneuverable, their task was very specific to carry
to a target as many bombs as was feasible and to drop them on said target with a degree of accuracy.
The Germans had the

Pretty Little Lias
E. M. Forester belived that literature should be more than dull facts and physical reality. Authors of
both experienced and inexpirenced backgrounds, have and will always attempt to entertain the
audience by keeping them engaged. The passion of the writer is refected onto the words on the pages.
Literature that is meant to entertain like Pretty Little Liars, should expand one s imagination and open
mindedness. The book series Pretty Little Liars, by Sara Shepard, are extraordinary books that involve
both mystery and a little bit of horror. The series is about 5 high school girls who are being bullied,
threatened, and even abused by a mystery character who goes by the name of A . The setting takes

One of the prevailing theories about why primates have such good color vision is that it allowed them
to pick out fruits against the green backgrounds of forests and jungles (Osorio et al., 2004). New
World monkey color vision is an evolutionary puzzle because the same evolutionary pressures for
finding food should act similarly on both sexes.
According to van Roosmalen (1985), it is a hypothesized that dominant female spider monkeys lead
the group to food sources, suggesting why there may be a difference in these animals due to their
ecology. As there is only one study to date about spider monkey color vision and it was based on one
male and one female monkey, this study will add to our knowledge about whether spider monkeys

Religious Masters in Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass When someone thinks of a religious

Do Photoshopped Images Promote Unrealistic Expectations of Beauty and Body Image? Photoshop is
an amazing tool to manipulate your images, we can perform a slight retouch to our image, with a little
help of the magic wand we remove a pimple, eliminating all wrinkles, or even shedding a few pounds
off our image, so that the final image looks precisely the way we want it. But is viewing a better
version of our self makes us feel bad about our looks? Yes, I do agree that Photoshop will create
unrealistic expectation towards society. I will put the blame all on the media, because many American
kids use more than one form of media like television, computers, video games and other media for

Deutsche Bank, an international universal bank, was internationally active a short time after its
foundation. The bank s early decades were a period of rapid expansion. With its growth Deutsche
Bank seemed to be unstoppable. But with the beginning of the First and Second World War the vision
to offer a financial services throughout the world was destroyed. Fortunately, the year of 1957 has the

This was followed by further participations for example Hannoverschen Bank or the shareholding of
Essener Credit Anstalt in 1903. The large numbers of participations helped to strenghten Deutsche
Bank s position by taking influence of the regional banks.
In 1914 Deutsche Bank rethought their strategy once again. As the banks biggest competitors,
Dresdner Bank and Diskonto Gesellschaft had, at that time, a great network of branches in Germany
they wanted to establish their presence with their own name.
Following the merger of Deutsche Bank and Bergisch Märkischen Bank in 1914 and Norddeutschen
Creditanstalt and Bergisch Märkischen Bank in 1917 Deutsche Bank became the biggest universal
bank in the world with roughly 40 branch offices. Over the next years many mergers, participations
and stock swaps followed. In 1929 The biggest ever merger in German banking history creates the
Deutsche Bank und Disconto Gesellschaft . The concentration throughout the industry and the
increasing costs were the main reasons for this merger. Due to this strategy Deutsche Bank was able to
establish a branch network all over Germany. This merger increased the number of branches to
roughly 300 branch offices.[3]

What Role Does Personification Play In The Dream Of The Rood
The Dream of the Rood is has many literary techniques that are used throughout the piece. Jesus is an
illusion to Beowulf, a mythical conqueror during the early middle ages, in a way that he is described
as a warrior who is eager, and intending to redeem mankind. Elaine Treharne de emphasized the
beatings that Jesus went through during the time of the crucifixion in order to focus of him
overcoming sin and entering into a victorious state. Personification plays a major role in this poem
through the cross; the cross had to undergo all of the pain and suffering that Jesus Christ went through
in history in order to maintain the warrior persona of Jesus. The timeline that the Dream of the Rood

Flat Tax Vs. The Progressive Tax System
When comparing the benefits and issues between the flat tax and the progressive tax, it is important to
understand the way these two systems operate in today s economy. The flat tax can be defined as a tax
that requires every individual to pay the same rate of deduction regardless of their income. On the
other hand, a progressive tax can be defined as a tax where the tax rate is increased based on the
income a person earn. This system is operated through the use of tax brackets, where the levels of
income are divided into different ranges with each range having a tax rate more significant than the
range below it. Furthermore, when evaluating the efficiency of both of these tax systems, one may
discover that the progressive tax system provides several different factors that contribute to the
efficiency of the economy in United States. The progressive tax system enables the government to
fund services that meet the crucial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the conflicts that people may argue toward this system is that it may discourage people from
earning more income because their higher income may be taxed at a higher rate. For instance, since
any head of the household who earns an income between $13,250 to $50,400 is taxed at the rate of
%15, they may lose more of their savings when compared to the tax bracket below them, which taxes
5% less. Therefore, people may consider maintaining their income at anywhere below $13,250 to
avoid having it taxed a higher rate. In addition, some may also argue that this system fails to
encourage people to invest in businesses because of the significant rates the government may tax on
their additional profit and the initial opening of their establishment. This leads to a form of
socioeconomic inequality between those who can afford to pay the tax on opening a business and
those who can only afford to invest in purchasing a

Courtship Rituals
In my opinion courtship rituals have drastically changed over time but have also still held onto some
aspects of romance, dating, and traditions that couples set early on. Courtship rituals are the traditions
during a certain period of time where two people get to know each other before striving to marry their
significant other. Courtship rituals can vary depending on the culture and the people using it. Many
have mixed opinions on the topic. Nowadays, relationships can be tricky and are nothing like the
movies. Dating practices differ now from the late 1900 s and early 2000 s. For this essay I have
decided to interview my younger cousin, who is fourteen years old. Through the interview process she
gave me the insight of younger teens and preteens dating. Communication, social presence, and
technology have changed the ways relationships are viewed and acted upon.
Dating had almost completely replaced the old system of calling by the mid 1920s and, in so doing,
had transformed American courtship. An excerpt from Beth L. Bailey s book, From Front Porch to

Kuhn s Efficacy In Scientific Research
In his paper, Kuhn discusses how measurement has functioned in physical science, normal and crisis
state, and what the source of its special efficacy has been. Here a measurement always produces an
actual number.
Our image of physical science is determined by science texts. The representation of scientific
measurement in these books is often misleading. Results of measurements are often displayed in
tables. These measurements seem to have the function to confirm the theory.
However, providing evidence is not their objective. The authority of the scientists is enough to
convince people of the theory.
Another function of measurement is that of exploration. We believe that we can derive laws and
theories from results of measurements. Results of measurements owe their special efficacy to this
believe. However, this believe is based on a myth. Tables are included in scientific texts to establish
what the author means by reasonable agreement between theory and measurement.
Although science texts sketch a different image, just a small fraction of measurements, in normal and
abnormal science, are motivated by a desire to confirm an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results of these measurements are presented in textbooks as facts to which the scientist must make
his theory fit. However, in scientific practice the roles are reversed: theory leads measurement.
Without a theory, no conclusions can be drawn from the results of measurements. Furthermore, theory
plays a role in reducing scatter in the results of measurements or in testing the reliability of existing
instruments or manipulative techniques. Finally, theory and experiment can also guide each other in
areas new to both. Although measurements are led by theory, measurements are necessary because
they can create consensus among scientists. Even if there is a substantial amount of theory, science
cannot survive on guesses based on

Stewart And Hurtado
Stewart (1998) examined the applications of feminist theories in personality research, stating how the
incorporation of these concepts may enrich our understanding, while helping us to overcome our
traditional individualism and universalism . In the second chapter of The Handbook of Diversity in
Feminist Psychology, Hurtado (2010) demonstrates many of the concepts discussed by Stewart in this
week s reading. One of Stewart s main points involves reframing one s own perspective in order to
better construct the research question. She believed researchers often construct research problems
from the perspective of educated, middle class professionals and many constructs measured have
different meanings for participants with varying backgrounds (more often idiosyncratic than concrete).
Stewart advocates researchers analyze their own positions in order understand the research problem
more comprehensively. When discussing multicultural feminist theory, Hurtado (2010) touches on
alterations to research methods by implementing self reflexivity and states collaborating with
additional authors, especially across academic disciplines, will broaden researcher s perspectives. This

Communication Is A Form Of Symmetrical Communication
Communication can come in various forms. A person can write, speak, or even use American Sign
Language to communicate. Within communication itself, there are various styles used and ways to
receive feedback. To name a couple, two way asymmetrical and two way symmetrical communication
are two well know forms in regards to Public Relations. Asymmetrical Communication happens when
professionals seek to pursue their publics into changing their opinions about certain things. However,
this attempt is usually unequal, given that professionals use research to help them persuade their
publics. Symmetrical Communication on the other hand has a form of balance to it and can lead
publics to change their attitudes on their own.
I think that blogging is a form of symmetrical communication. Although it may seem unusual, this is
an actual form of communication. A person (both professional and non professional) is able to publish
their opinion about something and publics are able to read and/or respond by commenting. Usually
blog posts get overlooked. There are probably a million posts that have been published, but no one has
read. However, well known bloggers or blog sites, like Perez Hilton, TMZ, Mashable, and my
personal favorite, The Shade room are all somewhat reliable sources. Many of these are digital media.
These are people and/or their sites that receive a ton of feedback from their blog posts. The Shade

A Very Brief Biography of Alexander the Great
Alexander the great s death was the cause of the fall of the Macedonian empire. Four of the reasons
that prove this are, Alexander s last words were to the strongest . He was an amazing leader. He knew
about military since he was young. Alexander had a great father to look up to. Alexander the great was
born in 356 B.C. His mother was Olympia s, and his father was Philip, although Olympia said to
Alexander that his real father was Zeus.
When Alexander was 13, the famous Greek philosopher Aristotle became his tutor 2 Alexander didn t
get to see much of his father. He saw little of his father, who as both king and general, was constantly
away on some military campaign. 6 When Alexander was 12, he impressed his father. At age 12
showed his equestrian skill to his father and all who were watching when he tamed Bucephalus,
unruly stallion horse, unable to be ridden and devouring flesh of all who had tried. 5 No one noticed
that the horse was afraid of its own shadow. When the horse was led onto the exercise field, Alexander
turned it around, so it faced the sun and its shadow fell behind. Then he jumped onto its huge back and
galloped across the field. King Philip was so proud of his son he burst into tears. (9) 1 Alexander the

  • 2. Dualism and Artificial Intelligence Mind body dualism is usually seen as the central issue in philosophy of the mind. The problem with mind body dualism is that it is unknown whether the mind really is a separate entity from the human body as Descartes states in his argument, or whether the mind is the brain itself. Descartes believed that in a person existed two major components, the physical body and the nonphysical body which was called the mind or soul. As a scientist, Descartes believed in mechanical theories of matter, however, he was also very religious and did not believe people could merely be mechanical creatures that ran like clockwork. And so, it was Descartes who argued that the mind directed thoughts. To account for this, he split the world into two parts, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Turing, a physicalist, believed that artificial intelligence could be achieved in the future. Turing argued that the mind was merely due to the physical aspects of the brain and so a machine could one day be created that has a mind of its own, i.e. artificial intelligence. He created a test called the Turing Test to determine whether a machine has artificial intelligence. In the Turing Test, an interrogator asks two subjects a series of questions. One of the subjects is a person, the other is the computer. The goal is for the person to imitate a computer and the computer to imitate the person. If the interrogator is fooled into thinking that the computer is the human then the computer, according to Turing, is concluded to have the ability to think and thus, have a mind. Turing argued that machines passing the Turing Test were sufficient for ascribing thought. There were those who did not agree with Turing s belief that computers would one day pass the Turing Test or that artificial intelligence could be created. A philosopher by the name of Lady Lovlace challenged Turing s theory. She argued that machines could never learn and adapt and so nothing creative could ever come from a machine. She claimed that machines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Tournique And Obstetric Analysis What are tourniquets use for: According to Naimer (2014), acute hemorrhage occurs in 50 % of the battlefield death and 30% of causality who died from excess bleeding. The use of tourniquets is an effective means of arresting life threatening external hemorrhage from a limb injury. The first reported use of a tourniquet was a French army surgeon called Etienne Morel in 1674. Thus, the word tourniquet originated from French word call toner meaning to turn. A tourniquet is a constricting or compressing device use as a bandage to control venous and arterial circulation to an extremity for a period. Pressure is applied circumferentially to the skin and underlying tissues of a limb. Thus this weight is transferred to the walls of the vessels, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, continuous application of tourniquets for longer than 2 hours can result in permanent nerve injury, muscle injury (including contractures, rhabdomyolysis, and compartment syndrome), vascular injury and skin necrosis. Muscle damage is nearly complete by 6 hours, with possible required amputation. Numerous studies have been performed to determine the maximum duration of tourniquet use before complications. The general conclusion is that a tourniquet can be left in place for 2 hours with little risk of permanent ischemic injury (Lee, C., Porter, K. M. 2007). Moreover, compartment syndrome may develop with prolonged tourniquet use, although this is rare. It can have catastrophic consequences if not recognized and decompressed, early. According to Hampson and Pinatadosi (2015), reported on seven cases of compartment syndrome, following total knee replacement. Of these cases, six had loss of function of one compartment and the seventh required amputation. Delay in diagnosis and decompression was standard to these cases. In five of these cases, the delay was thought to be due to the use of postoperative epidural infusion for pain relief. Very rarely, rhabdomyolysis has been reported, generally where tourniquet duration was longer than 4 hours (Hampson NB, Piantadosi CA, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sex Worker On The Red Light District If you disrespect prostitutes, you disrespect all women said Metje Blaak, advocate and union member for sex workers within the red light district (qtd. In Cruz). And, she is right. Being able to rent women allows men to feel as if they are in possession of the workers. Many times, feelings of possession can lead to sexual harassment toward women on, and off, the district by tourist feeling as though they are entitled to a women s body. That being said, prostitution in Amsterdam is much different than prostitution anywhere else in the world. Being able to understand what a sex worker on the red light district encounters on a day to day basis, as well as the history of prostitution can give one a better understanding of the controversial ground that is the Red Light District (Aalbers). Being of moral and political controversy, it is no shock that the district leaves such an impression on natives and tourists alike. Amsterdam legalized prostitution in 2000. The objective of legalization was to ensure that the government could monitor working condition and wages of those who claim prostitute on their tax form (Cruz). Prostitution was readily available in Amsterdam long before its legalization. The government chose to legalize the activity to protect the women, as well as establish a unique tourist environment that would drive the economy to where it is today. The overall culture found within the red light district praises sexual empowerment of all genders and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Shiloh Analysis Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach. In the book, Shiloh, Marty Preston experienced a situation in which he needed to heed these wise words, quoted by Tony Robins. Ever since Marty found the meager and bashful dog he named Shiloh, he had loved, nurtured, and protected him. However, despite these facts, Shiloh s owner Judd, a cruel and lying man, refused to let Marty keep him. Shiloh and Marty s relationship flourished during their time together and Marty simply could not bear allowing Judd to take back and mistreat the dog. When faced with an opportunity to keep Shiloh, Marty believed he had no choice but to capitalize on it. On his way over to reason with Judd, Marty accidently observed Judd shoot a peaceful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hatred he showed toward Marty, proved all the more reason not to negotiate with him. Marty simply lacked the proof to trust and deal with Judd. On the contrary, some people believe Marty should have made a deal with Judd. They claim that Marty greatly desired to keep Shiloh for his own and needed to take every chance he came upon to do that. However, this belief is irrelevant, because while the two deeply loved each other, Shiloh rightfully belonged to Judd. Judd bought Shiloh with his money and therefore Marty had no right to take him for his own. Along with this, people also argue that Judd signed the deal making it firm. This argument also remains inadequate because Marty knew virtually nothing about creating a firm deal. Judd did indeed sign a paper bag marking the deal, however, Marty lacked a witness and trust in Judd. Judd s signature meant nothing in causing the deal to remain strong. In fact, it instead caused much more pain for Marty. Neither of these opposing arguments that Marty desired to keep Shiloh, and that Judd signed a deal prove any adequate excuse for Marty to make a hasty and foolish deal with a cruel and untrustworthy ... • 7. Dreams In Sandra Cisneros s The House On Mango Street During the novel, The House on Mango Street, author Sandra Cisneros relives a childhood similar to hers, where the main purpose of life is having the ability to dream. Most characters that live on Mango Street, such as Esperanza Cordero, dream of having a better life and deserting their past of poverty and struggle. Cisneros constantly makes this apparent to the reader because without struggle and pain, the reward of escaping the neighborhood is not as meaningful. Throughout the novel, The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros develops the subject of dreaming through Esperanza s relationships female family members, the symbol of writing, and the motif of houses. We are able to make sense of the world and to gain an understanding of knowing where our place and purpose in the world, through this we are able to choose between the behaviours of right and wrong. This is called the western worldview, where we have an understanding of being placed in the world that is based on human dominance over nature, the restricted use of natual resources, and increased economic growth to manage an expanding industrial base (Linda R. When considering this question, it is necessary to somewhat challenge it; to whom is Miller s description meant to be helpful? As A View From the Bridge is a play, and therefore presented to an audience, we must presume that the description s intended use is to instruct an actor developing his character which is to be conveyed to an audience. Physical strength and prowess is also a key component of this culture, a quality which Miller exhibits in Marco. Square built evokes connotations of strength for many members of the audience. Strength becomes an important idea in the play, as Eddie is defeated by Marco in the physical competition concerning the two chairs (p 58) for example. However through Jacobsen s word choice and tone we can see that The Animals has a strong tie to the bible. This is conveyed through Jacobsen s use of biblical phrases and words, such as Sanctus and the dove flew out of the dark. The Bible is a collection of texts sacred in Christianity and Judaism. The life of Jesus is shown in the New Testament, showing Jesus s birth and death. Jesus was portrayed as the central figure of Christianity, symbolizing peace and reformation. Jesus went through 5 major transitions during his presence: Baptism, Transfiguration, Crucifixion, Resurrection and Ascension. • 17. The Trolley Problem Of The Monist Judith Jarvis Thomson presents an ethical dilemma entitled The Trolley Problem in The Monist. The problem describes a situation in which a trolley car is moving quickly and out of control on a train track towards five people who are tied to the tracks; you have the power to pull a lever, change the direction of the trolley car and save those five people at the expense of the life of one person who is on the track the car was diverted to (Thomson 1397). The choice to be made is not just about whether or not one should pull the lever though. The problem dictates a choice about whether one would kill, in the case of choosing to pull the lever to kill the one person and save the five, or letting die, in which case nothing is done and the five are killed because of the lack of action taken (Thomson 1398). Thomson believes it would be incorrect to turn the trolley and willingly choose to kill one person, rather than allow the five to die, but the philosophies of Immanuel Kant and John Stewart Mill must be analyzed to determine whether they would agree with Thomson, or have a different view from Thomson as well as one another. When considering J.J. Thomson s Trolley Problem, the philosophies of Kant and Mill must be fully analyzed and expressed to determine the most plausible perspective to be taken by both philosophers on the issue. There are strengths, weaknesses and criticisms of both ethical arguments, and these will be considered as well in the analysis. The ethical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the war in the Pacific relied heavily on US naval attendance which in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor had seen the US fail to keep a number of battleships. So, naval warfare in WW2 had many innovations. The aircraft carrier was the most noteworthy and became the most potent naval assets which the Allies gained an increasing monopoly in. However, submarines were also deadly in Europe and the Pacific against merchant and supply ships. The human torpedoes of the Italian Malali were possibly the most innovative, and were also effective enough to influence the Royal Navy to research human torpedoes themselves. Air Warfare World War 1 At the start of World War One bomb aiming was crude in the extreme. The pilot or co pilot if the aircraft carried two people simply dropped a small bomb over the side of the aircraft in the general direction of a target. On the other hand, a progressive tax can be defined as a tax where the tax rate is increased based on the income a person earn. This system is operated through the use of tax brackets, where the levels of income are divided into different ranges with each range having a tax rate more significant than the range below it. One of the conflicts that people may argue toward this system is that it may discourage people from earning more income because their higher income may be taxed at a higher rate. For instance, since any head of the household who earns an income between $13,250 to $50,400 is taxed at the rate of %15, they may lose more of their savings when compared to the tax bracket below them, which taxes 5% less. Therefore, people may consider maintaining their income at anywhere below $13,250 to avoid having it taxed a higher rate. In addition, some may also argue that this system fails to encourage people to invest in businesses because of the significant rates the government may tax on their additional profit and the initial opening of their establishment. This leads to a form of socioeconomic inequality between those who can afford to pay the tax on opening a business and those who can only afford to invest in purchasing a ... • 31. Courtship Rituals In my opinion courtship rituals have drastically changed over time but have also still held onto some aspects of romance, dating, and traditions that couples set early on. Courtship rituals are the traditions during a certain period of time where two people get to know each other before striving to marry their significant other. Courtship rituals can vary depending on the culture and the people using it. Many have mixed opinions on the topic. Nowadays, relationships can be tricky and are nothing like the movies. Dating practices differ now from the late 1900 s and early 2000 s. For this essay I have decided to interview my younger cousin, who is fourteen years old. Through the interview process she gave me the insight of younger teens and preteens dating. Communication, social presence, and technology have changed the ways relationships are viewed and acted upon. Dating had almost completely replaced the old system of calling by the mid 1920s and, in so doing, had transformed American courtship. An excerpt from Beth L. Bailey s book, From Front Porch to Back Seat: Courtship in Twentieth Century America. Personally, I think that the traditional courtship rituals have been replaced by dating. Technology has also led to long distance relationships. With the advancement of technology couples who either met online or had to split up due to college, job transfers, or for family reasons the use of electronics could keep the two together. • 32. Livia Alternate Ending Essay Livia tried not to put any thoughts toward her husband s new acquisition. The dark haired man fought like a caged animal and seemed always at the ready to lunge for anyone s throat, with a quiet sort of anger that was hard to detect. She was a bit frightened of him to be sure yet she also was... curious. Where did one find such a creature, thrown into the Abyss and pulled back a changed man? She never asked of the men and women her husband found in the market when they arrived in their service, aside from a few of the body slaves who she became close with. Their stories were often the same: prisoners of war spared harsher masters in their homeland, women forced to repay debts of their male relatives, or the rare girl who was born a slave. ... Short blonde locks were coated in sand and a string of blood oozed from his nose, likely from having landed in a poor position on his face. He sniffed hard and stood up as quickly as his disoriented head would allow and went toward the medicus whose room was just below the balcony. Livia watched him go until he was out of sight, then turned with burning eyes upon Maximus. You are not here to take out your frustrations upon the others. There is no honour in beating him when he has already fallen, she stated with evident irritation at his cruelty. Perhaps she was worried this was why Cassian purchased him. Your life continues because you have been spared the mines. You are given food and shelter in exchange for laurels in the arena. Do not forget that. And do not raise your weapon to any of the men in jest. One day you could be fighting with him at your back, to find your only ally would see you dead just as readily as your opponent, Livia coldly reminded him. • 33. Kuhn s Efficacy In Scientific Research In his paper, Kuhn discusses how measurement has functioned in physical science, normal and crisis state, and what the source of its special efficacy has been. Here a measurement always produces an actual number. Our image of physical science is determined by science texts. The representation of scientific measurement in these books is often misleading. Results of measurements are often displayed in tables. These measurements seem to have the function to confirm the theory. However, providing evidence is not their objective. The authority of the scientists is enough to convince people of the theory. Another function of measurement is that of exploration. We believe that we can derive laws and theories from results of measurements. Results of measurements owe their special efficacy to this believe. However, this believe is based on a myth. Tables are included in scientific texts to establish what the author means by reasonable agreement between theory and measurement. Although science texts sketch a different image, just a small fraction of measurements, in normal and abnormal science, are motivated by a desire to confirm an ... However, in scientific practice the roles are reversed: theory leads measurement. Without a theory, no conclusions can be drawn from the results of measurements. Furthermore, theory plays a role in reducing scatter in the results of measurements or in testing the reliability of existing instruments or manipulative techniques. Finally, theory and experiment can also guide each other in areas new to both. Although measurements are led by theory, measurements are necessary because they can create consensus among scientists. Even if there is a substantial amount of theory, science cannot survive on guesses based on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Stewart And Hurtado Stewart (1998) examined the applications of feminist theories in personality research, stating how the incorporation of these concepts may enrich our understanding, while helping us to overcome our traditional individualism and universalism . In the second chapter of The Handbook of Diversity in Feminist Psychology, Hurtado (2010) demonstrates many of the concepts discussed by Stewart in this week s reading. One of Stewart s main points involves reframing one s own perspective in order to better construct the research question. She believed researchers often construct research problems from the perspective of educated, middle class professionals and many constructs measured have different meanings for participants with varying backgrounds (more often idiosyncratic than concrete). Stewart advocates researchers analyze their own positions in order understand the research problem more comprehensively. When discussing multicultural feminist theory, Hurtado (2010) touches on alterations to research methods by implementing self reflexivity and states collaborating with additional authors, especially across academic disciplines, will broaden researcher s perspectives. • 36. Communication Is A Form Of Symmetrical Communication Communication can come in various forms. A person can write, speak, or even use American Sign Language to communicate. Within communication itself, there are various styles used and ways to receive feedback. To name a couple, two way asymmetrical and two way symmetrical communication are two well know forms in regards to Public Relations. Asymmetrical Communication happens when professionals seek to pursue their publics into changing their opinions about certain things. However, this attempt is usually unequal, given that professionals use research to help them persuade their publics. Symmetrical Communication on the other hand has a form of balance to it and can lead publics to change their attitudes on their own. I think that blogging is a form of symmetrical communication. Although it may seem unusual, this is an actual form of communication. A person (both professional and non professional) is able to publish their opinion about something and publics are able to read and/or respond by commenting. Usually blog posts get overlooked. There are probably a million posts that have been published, but no one has read. However, well known bloggers or blog sites, like Perez Hilton, TMZ, Mashable, and my personal favorite, The Shade room are all somewhat reliable sources. Many of these are digital media. These are people and/or their sites that receive a ton of feedback from their blog posts. The Shade Room in particular usually posts updates and breaking news on celebrities, ... From the Sinnoh legends, we ve learned that the Pokemon world was created by a single Pokemon, named Arceus. Diagla was given the Power of Time, Palkia was given the Power of Space, and Giratina was given the Power of Antimatter. The Newsboy By William Notman Analysis Shirley Liang 211000411 ARTH 2930 Course Director: Vanessa Fleet William Notman s The Newsboy 1866 The Newsboy exists as a documentation of newsboys in the 19th century, where young boys would have the often arduous job of selling papers every morning, in any weather conditions. This particular photograph depicts a young boy with a stack of newspapers, trying to stand his ground against what appears to be heavy snow and strong winds. Of all the jobs that children could have had during this era, being a newsboy was one of the better ones laws and legislation with regards to children workers in harsher jobs in factories and mines were not passed until the 1870s and 1880s (The Canadian Encyclopedia). When the horse was led onto the exercise field, Alexander turned it around, so it faced the sun and its shadow fell behind. Then he jumped onto its huge back and galloped across the field.
