Mrs Mallard Oppression
The Story of an Hour , is a short story written by Kate Chopin in 1894. Throughout this time frame,
the Women s Suffrage Movement was going on as well as the constrained traditions of feminine roles.
Men were known to be dominant and this short story connects very well with this time frame. In The
Story of an Hour , Kate Chopin addresses many of the concerns that are central to feminism, by using
verbal, situational and dramatic irony, as well as imagery and flashback, unveiling the issues of
oppression and suppression in women. The main character of the story Mrs. Mallard, is firstly
introduced to the reader. She is a women afflicted with a heart trouble and because of this heart
trouble, there is great care taken to give her the news ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To the readers surprise, Louise dies of a heart attack at that very moment. When the doctor came there
said to she had died of a heart disease of joy that kills (308). While the Mallards marriage was
functional and not horribly cruel, Louise still appreciated the new found freedom that she had when
she thought her husband was gone. She died not only from a heart attack but at the realization that she
would have to go back to a sub surd role, a repressed situation, she would not live for just herself but
she would have to bend her will to someone else, and this robbing of the freedom is what really killed
her. Josephine, Brentley and the doctor believed that Louise was overwhelmed with joy at seeing her
husband alive that the shock kills her, given her fragile heart condition. However the reader is privy to
the thoughts in Louise s head and may interpret the ending differently. Seeing Louise s heart breaking
sense that her freedom and autonomy was now dashed to the ground is what really killed

Examples Of Transactional Analysis
Transactional Analysis is a theory in psychology developed by Dr. Eric Berne. It is a method for
studying relationships and interactions between individuals, considering that people have multi
faceted personalities. It also examines how a person interacts towards other people based on the notion
that an individual s personality can change over time. Transaction is the fundamental unit of social
intercourse, which is the basic element of this study. According to Berne, if two or more people come
across each other, one of them will speak or acknowledge the presence of the others. Another person
will then respond in a way related to what the other has said (Berne, 2015). The transactions between
people can be affected by ego states. An ego ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Primarily, Life Position refers to the general attitude about life a person has that affects every
transaction. Life Positions are basic beliefs about one s self and other people which are used to justify
our decisions and behaviours (Mountain Associates, 2013). There are four Life Positions namely,
Friendly Weakness, Hostile Weakness, Friendly Strength and Hostile Strength. The first type of life
position is the Friendly Weakness or I m not OK, you re OK . This type of life position is
characterized by feeling helpless as compared to other people. A person in this life position feels
depressed and inferior to other people (Newton, 2015). He/she may accept criticisms and negative
strokes from others readily. Another type of life position is called the Hostile Weakness or I m not OK,
you re not OK . An individual exhibiting this life position feels desperate, useless, and frustrated.
He/she may lose interest and hope in life. This attribute is often showed by people who are overly
depressed and unable to cope with the real world (Newton,

Henry impression toward Catherine is not enough to justify his action toward Rinaldi. Catherine was
the woman whom Rinaldi after. Rinaldi was the best friend of Henry but Henry betrayed Rinaldi just
because of Catherine. It inferred that Henry s impression toward Catherine was not just beauty but
also something called love. Rinaldi s love towards Catherine was deep. Rinaldi was willing to learn
English because he wanted to get close to Catherine. Furthermore, Rinaldi would like to marry
Catherine. Rinaldi s love toward Catherine can be found as follows:
I was very dusty and dirty and went up to m y room to wash. Rinaldi was sitting in the bed with a
copy of Hugo s English Grammar. He was dressed, wore his black boots, and his hair shone.
Rinaldi: I am now in love with Miss Barkley. I will take you to call. I will probably marry Miss
Barkley. Rinaldi: I must make on Miss Barkley the impression of a man of sufficient wealth. You are
my great and good friend and financial protector.
Quotation above expressed Rinaldi s love toward Catherine and Rinaldi and Henry s friendship.
Rinaldi and Henry was the brother at arm. Henry was willing to lend his money to Rinaldi but he was
not willing to give Catherine to Rinaldi. It was obvious that Catherine is the precious thing in Henry s
life; that precious thing is love. Henry was an atheist which means that he did not believe in God.

The Pros And Cons Of Augmented Reality And The Virtual World
Technology, as of the year 2015, is so advanced that realism in a virtual world is a reality, But as
human beings we are always wanting more and our obsession to reproduce the world and human
experience in a virtual setting as brought us to the next step. On the spectrum between virtual reality,
which takes computer generated environments, and the real world, augmented reality is as close to the
real world as it gets in regards to technology. Augmented Reality or AR, takes our environment and
what we see around us and adds graphics, sounds, videos and GPS data to it. It superimposes these in
real time. Augmented reality already has and will continue to have a significant impact on how we see
the world around us in years to come. There are so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The pros and cons of Google Glass and similar devices.
PROS: It is hands free. Being able to use technology without the need for hand interaction is a
massive bonus and is the way technology in the future will aim to be. No smartphone is needed
because everything is voice activated.
It makes your life easier and reduces the need for a smartphone because you are looking at the
environment around you instead of at screen. If you were using google maps you woud not have to
look down at a screen because it would be in front of you.
You are always connecting to the web so no matter where you are you don t have to worry about
signal or connection or data charges because you have constant connection.
CONS: Wearing the glasses could take a toll on your vision. The constant computer screen that is right
in front of your eye can cause headache and pain in the eye. It could also damage the development of
kids vision if worn a lot the same as prolonged time watching

Richard E. Walton s Article
1. Control: Design and Diagnosis Richard E. Walton s article From control to commitment in the
workplace is a groundbreaking work which advocates that managers evolve from using the control
strategy to ultimately adopting the commitment strategy. The discussion below considers his
description of a control organization by looking at a case study. The case study which will be put
under the microscope for the discussion focuses on developments which have led to degradation in
how the workforce is managed at the Slade Company. By highlighting elements of their approach used
to manage employees, and then providing examples, it will be clear that control strategy was being
used. Further, an examination of defects in the implementation of the ... Show more content on

and he does not have anyone to fill his role. This resulted in workers leaving work before their shift
was up, and having a co worker clock out for them. Otto was also not able to control how workers
interpersonal relations and their performance. There were informal groups created and in the case of
the group led by Tony Sarto, they interacted mostly among themselves, to the detriment of division
and against what was the norm within the company. For instance, when the group did overtime on the
weekends, they operated as a team regardless of work assignments (Slade, p.3). The hierarchy
mechanism was also flawed because, Otto s brother, Herman Schell lacked proper supervision. This is
compounded by the fact that all of the 38 workers in the plating division had to be overseen by one
person, without support. Within a control organization there is also the notion that work is mainly to
get a fair day s pay for a fair day s work; managers see workers as a variable cost (Walton, p.78). At
Slade this was evident in how workers were perceived and compensated. They were paid $1.25 an
hour for 60 hours a week and were paid at the overtime rate for hours exceeding then normal 60 hours.
Exhibit 5 which is the Plating Room Personnel chart provides a deeper understanding of how
management viewed workers as a variable cost. It shows how workers are ranked and considers their

Rock ‘N’ Roll Music Has Widely Influenced Music And Society
Rock n roll music has widely influenced music and society and continues to do so today. Rock n roll
emerged in the 1950 s a time where whites and blacks were heavily segregated. Rock and roll music
not only changed the nation s current musical norms, but indicated the joy of the emerging youth
culture of the generation. It influenced artists whether black or white to come into the mainstream
music. Famous artists still remembered today also influenced rock and roll. Those pioneers helped
change the musical norms and the overall history of music. White rock n rollers helped build a ladder
for black artists to come into the scene. It was certain that rock n roll made it possible for greater

When first entering in America, British folk music was distinguished by three chord tunes, sparse
instrumentation (with some fiddlers), mostly male performers, improvisation, the singers sporadic
shouts (Scottish yips ), Christian themes served up in hundreds of hymns, and a secular collection of
songs that told stories, generally about love and lost love, using metaphor and symbol to tell those
stories (Allen 101). By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, British music changed and
became Americanized. Vocal harmonizing slowly evolved, and fiddlers were accompanied by those
who played banjo, an African American opening. Tambourines and bones (tapping out rhythms using
pork rib bones) were a minstrel show contribution (Allen 102). When African Americans were forced
into slavery and brought to North America in the 1600s, they brought their own musical traditions and
sounds. Slaves who were on the Mississippi River Valley delta soil developed what will later be
introduced as blues music. On the plantations, slaves greatly changed British American hymn singing.
They took non religious British American songs and turned it into their own forms of music that
followed their culture and taste of music. Blues emerged in the early twentieth century at the same
time country music became settled from its folk roots. Blues music talked about the indifferences
African American slaves were going through at that time. The blues voiced human

Unfortunately, the corrupted Somoza family was the only one who received any benefit from the

However, instead of going to rebuilding the country, the money was swindled by the Somoza family.
They took the money from the people and then bought up land from people for much less than it was

Empathy Belly Research Paper
While wearing the empathy belly, I experienced many physical and mental challenges. There were
many obstacles I had to overcome and deal with the uncomfortableness. After wearing the belly for
only a few short hours, I now have even more sympathy for women who have to go through this for
nine months. I experienced many symptoms while wearing the belly. The most noticeable symptom I
noticed was my heart rate. Having a heart condition and wearing the belly probably wasn t the best
idea since it cause my heart rate to increase and I had a palpitation. It makes me wonder what it would
be like if I was actually pregnant. Would I be able to carry a baby without it drastically effecting my
health? I noticed that it was harder than normal to breathe because of the metal balls on my ribs. I was
sweaty and felt like walking from class to class was a chore. The only part of my body that actually
hurt was my ribs because of the balls. Walking in the belly was very awkward and uncomfortable. It

they have to experience the physical effects, they also have to experience the mental effects. I give
props to pregnant women because I don t think I d be able to handle it for nine weeks. If a teenage girl
wanted to get pregnant too, I would tell her to wear the belly for a day and see if it changes her mind.

Pros and Cons of Legalising Marijuana
Cannabis is becoming increasingly widespread and increasingly common in modern day society for
both recreational use and for medication. The article by Craig Reinarman, Criminalisation, legalisation
and the mixed blessing of medicalisation in the USA generates many controversial issues of cannabis.
The two sided debate between embracing medical use of the drug through the therapeutic benefits and
the link between cannabis and psychosis is explored. This issues also stems the question of the
legitimacy of legalisation and criminalisation of cannabis and how key concepts are raised including
moral entrepreneur and social locus . In today s society as cannabis is becoming increasingly
normalised , the theory that cannabis is a gateway drug also arises.
Despite the current marijuana laws, medical research has shown a variety of therapeutic benefits that
arise from the use of cannabis. (Gowling et al. 1998, p. 446)) Revealed that Over the years, cannabis
has been claimed to increase appetite, relax the muscle, improve mood, relieve anxiety and combat
pain and nausea . As a result of these advantages, medical marijuana advocates support and has
pushed for the legalisation of cannabis. However, it is argued that harmful effects can arise,
demonstrating an association between cannabis with psychosis. Psychosis is a condition of the mind,
involving a loss of contact with reality . Hall (1998) stipulated that A high doses of

Examples Of Magical Realism In Pan s Labyrinth
After watching the movie Pan s Labyrinth, I believe it deals with some Magical Realism which is
artistic genre that involves realistic narrative and naturalistic technique that is combined with surreal
elements of a dream or fantasy. This genre includes fantasy elements but often has real world social
and political problems. This is why I do believe that the movie Pan s Labyrinth does have aspects of
magical realism, because in the Ofelia, one of the characters, believes in fantasy. The movie also is set
five years after the Spanish Civil War, so the movie includes many political problems. In the movie,
there are a lot of examples of Magical Realism. The movie Pan s Labyrinth begins with a little girl

Daisy and Myrtle: The Women of The Great Gatsby
Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby is a fascinating work that details the corruptive influence of greed. The
main character is a man named Gatsby. The two main female characters are Daisy and Myrtle. These
two women provide an interesting contrast while complementing each other at the same time. Daisy is
living a life of luxury while Myrtle is struggling to make ends meet. They both play major roles in the
novel, and, although their intentions seem pure and promising enough, they both are doomed to
succumb to greed which causes eventual death.

them. Death is one of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She aches to be part of an elite class like Daisy, but instead, she is married to a man who is hard
working and honest but does not have the passion that she craves. Wilson, Myrtle s dumb witted
husband, owns a garage. Because Wilson is a passive aggressive character, he does not want to admit
to himself that his wife would cheat on him, even though Tom makes it apparent that Myrtle is more
his wife or property than she will ever be to Wilson. For example, when Tom visits Myrtle at the
garage Myrtle orders Wilson to fetch some chairs while she gives her true lover a warm greeting.
Wilson gives to Myrtle his complete trust in the same way he provides Myrtle with what she asks for,
but she abuses it. She takes her husband for granted while at the same time, she gazes at Tom sitting
on a pedestal she has made for him. Tom is the man that can make Myrtle s every fantasy come true,
but also the man that will lead to her early death. Myrtle is seen to be a fun and floozy mistress, but
not as a real wife. She, as superficial as it may be, is not someone that Tom could take to parties and
introduce to his parents. Myrtle controls Wilson, while Tom manipulates her simply for enjoyment.
For example, Tom tells Myrtle that the reason they could never wed is because his wife, Daisy, is
Catholic and she would never stand for a divorce. In this scene, Catherine, Myrtle s sister, tells Nick
Carraway, the narrator, about the reasons why Tom and Myrtle may never come

This technique increases the constellation size so that each of the point in the original basic
constellation can be mapped into several equivalent points in the expanded constellation. Since
substituting a point in the basic constellation for a new point in the larger constellation is equivalent to
injecting a tone of the appropriate frequency and phase in the multicarrier signal, therefore, this
technique is called tone injection. The extra degrees of freedom, which is generated as each symbol in

Various works are available in literature mainly focusing on complexity reduction of optimization
problem. A gradient algorithm is proposed where the gradient of clipping noise mean square error is
calculated and optimization of signal to clipping noise ratio is done in place of peak to average power
ratio and order of complexity is O(N). A truncated IDFT algorithm is proposed where in place of
calculating entire IDFT values, it calculates on maximal IDFT element thus reducing complexity of
optimization process. The basic idea is to divide the group in two halves of N/2 and leave the half with
lesser energy and move in similar way till we reach the maximum energy element, however this
scheme may not always give correct maximal IDFT element, it also costs in lower peak to average
power ratio reduction. For designing the peak cancelling signal clipping noise is analysed and several
iterations of clipping and filtering are used till desired peak cancellation signal is generated.
References also proposed an adaptive scaling algorithm and constant scaling algorithm for tone
reservation. LSA TR method with fast convergence is proposed which is based on least square
approximation and used to find the peak cancelling signal faster than clipping control TR method.
References used genetic algorithm to find the optimal PRC set, it also discussed an adaptive amplitude

Colonization of Bangladesh
Colonization of Bangladesh Bangladesh, a developing country, is relatively unknown in the globalized
world and is often confused with its dominant neighbor, India. The country as we see it now did not
exist even 50 years ago. The purpose of this paper is to detail how the region was colonized, how
Bangladesh came to be and a brief overview of how it is doing now. As most geographers know that
there is an intense relationship between Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, for good reason too. They
were all part of the same colony once and hence when we talk about the colonization of Bangladesh,
we must mention details from those of India and Pakistan. Colonization of India Imperial colonization

Extractive colonies on the other hand, were used by the colonizers solely for their resources and thus
the extraction of their resources and the lack of any advanced government institutions and frameworks

these three countries will experience similar levels of development. I will attempt to deduce this using
GNI per capita, GDP per capita and the HDI Index. Figure 1 GNI per Capita: Figure 2 GDP Per

both Pakistan and Bangladesh in recent times leading me to believe that the proposed theory does not
hold true for Bangladesh. This is probably because the British set up different types of colonies in
different regions, causing dissimilarities in growth. Pakistan and Bangladesh has been virtually the
same on the HDI index but Pakistan beats Bangladesh in both GNI and GDP per capita. There are
several major factors contributing to Bangladesh s poor growth. Some of which are, but not restricted

Britain as an Awkward Partner in the European Community...
Britain as an Awkward Partner in the European Community
Britain emerged from the war in a relatively favourable position, compared to its European
neighbours. In 1946 industrial production was as high as at any time pre war, and increasing quite fast.
By the end of the year exports had regained their pre war level along with this there was little
unemployment and retail prices remained fairly stable. All this contrasted strongly with the situation in
France, Germany and Italy. Indeed in the late 1940 s and into the early 1950 s Britain s economy
performed better then it s European counterparts. Churchill suggested that France and West Germany
should lead the creation of a new Europe for justice, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The official line on Britain s non entry being , we are not willing to make prior commitment to a
scheme whose terms of membership are unknown. This also underlines the fact that Britain wanted to
continue as before and thought it could, at the time Britain was producing about one half of the coal
and steel in Europe.
Right from the conception of the European union Britain has stood aloof from the union being very
cautious and wary. From as far back as the creation of the European Steel and Coal Community in
1952 Britain has shown its unwillingness and reservations about joining Europe. The ECSC was set
up under the Treaty of Paris in 1951 with 6 countries signing. These countries were France, Italy,
Luxemburg, Holland and Belgium. Britain was expected to join the ECSC but this was not the case.
Britain at the time had a far superior economy in strength than the rest of its European counterparts
and felt the union would only inhibit them Economically.
In 1955 a congress was held on the creation of a general customs union, to which Britain did not deem
important enough to send more than a civil servant. However even he was recalled from the
conference. This demonstrated the arrogance of Britain at the time that felt that these Treaties and
agreements did not warrant their involvement. Further adding to their

The Controversy Of Cloning And Genetic Engineering Essay

Cloning and genetically modifying humans is now more attainable than ever due to strides made by
science. With a relatively short history, cloning and genetic engineering have been a new concept for
many people in society with the first proof of cloning being dolly the sheep, the first successful clone
born by the somatic cell nuclear transfer procedure [1]. Cloning over the years has evolved and now
could be used to someday help people requiring organ transplants, recover from traumatic injuries and
aid infertile couples with its reproductive possibilities [4].
On the other hand, genetic engineering can also be a great benefit as through gene therapy, genetic
diseases can be prevented and quite possibly being wiped from existence. Another benefit of genetic
engineering is that it can also allow infertile couples to have a baby but to do this would require the
genetic information of a surrogate alongside the couple s genetic information [12]. This could result in
many complications which is why there is a great controversy on this matter. Although cloning is
known by a plethora of people, whereas the minority of the population knows of genetic engineering
which brings up the question, what is genetic engineering?
Simply put, genetic engineering is the

Why Should Balloon Be Banned
Balloons are a very enjoyable thing. But they might have a dark side. They are harmful to many of our
earth s environmental factors, such as, wildlife, natural resources, and toddlers could be very affected
by them as well. This is why balloons should be banned.
Balloons are a negative impact on wildlife. They effect a lot of sea creatures, because many sea
animals mistake them for food. According to the text, dead whales and sea turtles have been found
with pieces of balloons in their stomachs. Birds are affected by them too. According to the article,
Birds get tangled in the strings. When birds get tangled in these strings, it kills them because they can t
fly. When you let them go, as a tradition it affects wildlife in bad ways. ... Show more content on

Helium is a very useful resource and balloons are taking way too much. According to the text, Helium
is also a rare natural resource; the known supply of it on earth is limited. We could be using it for
many other things. According to Should Balloons Be Banned, It even helps send rockets into space
Helium is a recourse that we need to stop wasting on balloons.
Although balloons can be a fun party decoration, if you don t be careful when they pop, babies could
choke on them. According to the text, Balloons bring people so much joy. But when a younger relative
has to go to the doctor because they swallowed bits of balloons, they might not be as much fun. Babies
could be harmed. According to the text, Children can choke or suffocate on uninflated or broken
balloons When you choke you could die. Therefore balloons are negative because they harm babies.
In conclusion, balloons should be banned because they harm wildlife, they take up a natural resource
that we are running out of, and they kill toddlers. Although balloons are very fun to be around, they

Different Approaches to Screen Violence Essays
Different Approaches to Screen Violence
Violence is a strong issue in society. In a world that is surrounded by terrorism, aggression and crime,
the way violence is represented in the media can be crucial. Most viewers define violence as an act
that breaks out of a personal comfort zone and therefore opinions of how violent a scene is can differ.
Arguments for the link between violence in the media and real life focus on the perpetrator of violence
being unable to acknowledge the difference between reality and the fiction portrayed in film. These
opinions however, are frequently the results of a public who use violent films as a scapegoat for
physical aspects that shape people s lives. Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This hits the audience with a sense of reality and makes the emphasis with the character. There is a
soundtrack that plays when a jump cut takes place to the two main characters walking down a street.
This music plays a contrast between the normal lifestyle, and when they are at fight club.
In Drunken Master, sound is important in establishing the scene. The synchronous diagetic sounds of
punching and kicking are overly exaggerated. This emphasises the violence but at the same time
makes the scene become less severe and somewhat comical. There is no music at the start of the
scene; this creates realism and a tense atmosphere. After a pause in the action, the first piece of
dialogue is spoken. Jackie Chan is taunted and challenged. As Jackie accepts his opponents proposal
an incidental piece of music begins to play. It is a fast heroic piece, with obvious oriental influences.
This gets the audience involved in the scene and makes them feel empathy for Jackie. Sound plays an
important part in both scenes, and helps to add to and take away from the way violence is portrayed.
There are many similarities that give off different effects in each scene.
Fight Club uses a montage of fast cuts, which increases the pace and makes the scene look visually
impressive. There is no slow motion editing

Importance of Financial Ratios
Important Financial Ratios in Investment Analysis
Introduction
Financial ratios are derived ratio numbers from the financial statements of a company. Depending on
the task, financial ratios can serve to various purposes in accounting, legal, M A uses, etc. For
investors, financial ratios are very powerful in two ways: indentifying the company s unique
competitiveness and evaluating its stock price level. The first part helps investor find a truly valuable
company and the second part helps investor buy the stock at a bargain price.
Comparison of Financial Ratios
With few exceptions, a great company must have strong competitiveness in its products, operation or
management. Financial ratios are a valuable and easy way to interpret the ... Show more content on

In general the more liquid the current assets, the less the margin needed above current liabilities
(Graham, Meredith, p.34, 1998). The quick ratio is more descriptive than the current ration since it
excludes the inventory. For example, Apple, Inc. at the end of Sep 2010 has total current assets
$41,768m with cash and cash equivalents of $11,261m and total current liabilities $20,722m. The
current ratio of Apple is 2.02 and quick ratio 0.54, which are quite superior compared to other
industrial players (Table I). Obviously, we will have no wonder about Apple s profitability when we
are playing with an iPhone 4.
Profitability Ratio
Profitability ratios are direct signs of the company s business strengths. Return on equity is perhaps
the most important goal in operating a company is to earn net income for its owners (Wild, Shaw,
Chiappetta, p.697, 2008). A stable and higher than industry average ROE affirms that the company has
long term competitive advantage in its products or services over competitors that will ensure its future
earning and growth prosperity. The ROE of Apple is 35.28%, which win the top place in the personal
computer sector. It is worth mentioning that professional investors widely employ the so called
DuPont model, which is the net margin times total assets turnover times equity multiplier to compute

Liquidity era tio ns
How quickly will my assets convert to cash?
By providing information on assets, liabilities, and stockholders equity, the balance sheet provides a
basis for computing rates of return and evaluating the capital structure of the enterprise. As our
opening story indicates, analysts also use information in the balance sheet to assess a company s risk2
and future cash flows. In this regard, analysts use the balance sheet to assess a company s liquidity,
solvency, and financial flexibility. Liquidity describes the amount of time that is expected to elapse
until an asset is realized or otherwise converted into cash or until a liability has to be paid. 3 Creditors
are interested in short term liquidity ratios, such as the ratio of cash (or near cash) to short term
liabilities. These ratios indicate whether a company, like Amazon, will have the resources to pay its
current and maturing obligations. Similarly, stockholders assess liquidity to evaluate the possibility of
future cash dividends or the buyback of shares. In general, the greater Amazon s liquidity, the lower its
risk of failure.

Stand Up For Yourself Analysis
One common theme from both books is to stand up for yourself and your beliefs. For example, Sarah
Byrnes won t let anyone bully her or her friends in school. She has a tough outer shell. Hope Yancey,
on the other hand, isn t fighting for herself. She s defending G.T. and his campaign, and hoping that
G.T. will be elected so they can have a fair mayor. Hope believes that Eli Millstone is unfair and
favoring Real Fresh Dairy. They both share the idea that you should stand up for what you think is
right. Another idea that both stories share is to stay positive no matter the circumstances. Hope always
stays hopeful and positive no matter how many times she moves or is knocked down. The same goes
for G.T., he had leukemia, but even though he

Fran, thank you for allowing me to attend the 2016 Play Conference hosted by the US Play Coalition.
I attended three sessions on Monday, April 4th, and the experience was highly beneficial for my future
career and built on many topics I have learned this semester so far. The exposure to Parks, Recreation,
and Tourism Management professionals allowed me to see possible futures for myself. The first
session I attended was on the education track; it was given by Debbie Stevens Smith and was entitled
The Kinesthetic Classroom: Why, How, and When. Ms. Smith, an early childhood professor at
Clemson University, spoke about why it is vital for teachers to create classrooms incorporating play
and movement, gave some advice on how to achieve this, and told us when we could incorporate
movement during the day. The most interesting new thing I learned during this session was about the
Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor; she compared this to miracle grow for the brain. Basically,
exercise encourages the growth of new neurons and synapses, thus increasing brain mass and mood
regulation. She also spoke about Finland, a nation with the highest test scores in the world; their
teachers give students a 15 minute break for physical activity for every 45 minutes of instruction. This
shows that, despite what many educators and policymakers think, more recess time improves school
performance. Another interesting fact I learned was that 85 percent of children are kinesthetic learners,

Age Degeneration Essay
Age Related Macular Degeneration
Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is an eye disease related to aging. The disease causes you to
lose your central vision. Your central vision is what allows you to see objects clearly and to do daily
tasks like read and drive.
There are two main types of AMD:
Dry AMD. People with this type lose their vision slowly. Some people notice very little change in
their vision as they age. This is the most common type of AMD.
Wet AMD. People with this type lose their vision quickly.
CAUSES
This condition is caused by damage to the part of the eye that provides you with central vision
(macula). Dry AMD happens when deposits in the macula cause light sensitive cells in the macula to
slowly break down. Wet AMD happens when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Decreased ability to recognize faces.
One eye seems worse than the other.
Decreased ability to adapt to dimly lit rooms.
Straight lines appear crooked or wavy. This is a symptom of wet AMD.
DIAGNOSIS
This condition is diagnosed based on your symptoms and an eye exam. During the eye exam:
Eye drops will be placed in your eyes to enlarge (dilate) your pupils. This will allow your health care
provider to see the back of your eye better.
You may be asked to look at an image that looks like a checkerboard (Amsler grid). Early changes in
your central vision will cause the grid to look distorted.
You may be given a test called a fluorescein angiogram. In this test a dye is injected into a vein and
pictures are taken as the dye travels through the eye. This test shows if you have dry or wet AMD.
TREATMENT
There is no cure for this condition, but treatment can help slow down how fast it gets worse.
Treatment may include:
Taking vitamin C, vitamin E, beta carotene, zinc, and antioxidants.

Political Bias
Everywhere we look and listen there is bias. News stations and news reporters claim that they are
unbiased by are they really? Brooke Gladstone s, The Influencing Machine deciphers the different
types of biases. News stations such as CNN report on politics and news related to politics. The New
York Times reports on breaking news stories such as 9/11 or Boston Bombings. The Today reports on
breaking news stories and stories for the family. Bias comes in all forms and shapes from the
newspaper we read in the morning to the news we watch at night. There will always be political bias,
whether it is election season or the middle of the politicians term. It is prior knowledge of many that
CNN favors the Liberals on the political spectrum. The editors of CNN are very politically biased and
often times showcase the positive side of the Liberals and the negative side of the Conservatives. In
the article, Liberals Win Big the writer, Zelizer, writes about a major victory for the Liberals. The
Supreme Court on June 26, 2015 sided with the Liberal advocates and ruled that states cannot ban
same sex marriage. This ruling of The Supreme Court was a huge accomplishment for the Liberals,

A Student Of A Disadvantaged Elementary School And Co...
As a student of a disadvantaged elementary school and co director and mentor for Project F.A.M.E.
(Fostering the Arts to Motivate Excellence) Summer Camp, I found that that low self esteem and self
degradation accounts for many of the social and academic ills of black and low income children. My
aspiration to teach was first ignited by my desire to expose underprivileged black children to their
African American history and greatness (earlier on in their lives) to dispel the narrative that black
children are biologically inferior. I believe it is fundamental to reverse the psychological oppression
that is often pre ingrained into the minds and spirits of young (especially African American) children.
Expressly, I believe if children can understand and learn about their predecessors resilient and
tenacious spirits, then they are inclined to gain a greater sense of self and perform better in academic
environments. In another light, I yearn for an understanding of pedagogical strategies that births
critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, and a culturally aware people. Arguably, the purpose of
education is comprised of four primary pillars that encourage the growth of a whole being so that he
or she can fruitfully contribute to society; as an illustration, education seeks to foster the development
of intellectual, social, economic, and political capacities. The school is a prominent growth house for
children s guided development and socialization. The most

U.s. Taxpayers Paid $ 256 Billion For Healthcare
In 1980, U.S. taxpayers paid $256 billion for healthcare services. In 2012, they paid nearly $2.8
trillion for healthcare services (Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services. 2012). This represents a
tenfold increase in a single generation. Although some of the most expensive medical conditions to
treat may not be preventable, there are a myriad of preventable diseases that add to the economic
burden that Americans carry each year. When one also considers the rise in childhood obesity rates
and other related and non related chronic illnesses, the role of nurses as educators in our schools and
communities has become critical to the continued success of our nation.
In 2009, data were collected by the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) that clearly
demonstrated the relationship between health risk behaviors and academic achievement in high school
students. Students with higher grades were less likely to engage in health risk behaviors such as
cigarette smoking, alcohol use, unhealthy diets, and increased sexual activity. Unfortunately, the
statistics reported by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for health risk behaviors in
American adults were grim. In 2012, 42 million adults reported that they smoked cigarettes and nearly
47% of American adults have at least one major risk factor for heart disease or stroke. These included
uncontrolled high blood pressure, uncontrolled high levels of LDL cholesterol, lack of aerobic
exercise, and poor nutrition.

In the post civil war era until World War One lived many elites who prided themselves on their shoddy

Geck and Mann state that due to Bachs role as Kantor he couldn t take on the role of Capellmeister in
the way he would of wished too, much to his dismay (560). Perhaps this is why he was so involved in
the Collegium Musicum, because it provided him with opportunities to explore and deliver an
enriched music environment to the city of Leipzig. Stauffer discusses how Telemann should be
accredited for the formation of the group and it s impact on cultural life in Leipzig. After the parting of
Telemann and the collegium in 1705 there had been three directors; Melchoir Hoffman (1704 15),
Johann Gottfried Vogler (171515 20) and Georg Balthasar Schott (1720 29). During Bach s leadership
of the group, meetings were held in Zimmermans coffee house in the winter and Zimmermans garden

concerts were of importance as they started to gain popularity and become somewhat of a city interest

he speaks his true mind, explaining that when this loose behaviour I throw off/ And pay the debt I
never promised,/ By so much shall I falsify men s hopes;/ And, like bright metal on a sullen ground,/
My reformation, glittering o er my fault,/ Shall show more goodly and attract more eyes/ Than that
which hath no foil to set it off./ I ll so offend to make offence a skill,/ Redeeming time when men
think least I will. (1H4, 1.2.199 207) Prince Hal shows a great deal of insight in this revelation; his
words show that he realizes he has a twofold boundary to overcome: first, he is seen as overly juvenile
and flighty by most of his father s men; second, and more importantly, Hal knows that he has no claim
to the divine right to rule, as he is not of Richard II s bloodline. It seems, then, that Hal knows full
well the way that men respond to the image of royalty, and [is] no less instinctive a politician than his
father, and is in fact the creator as well as the creature of political mythology, the author as well as the
hero of his legend (Ornstein, 137). By rising phoenix like out of the ashes, Hal knows that he will
make a more compelling impression on England than if he had been conventionally princely all his
life, and plays this dramatic advantage to

Magna Carta Advantages
The rights of English citizens were strengthened from Magna Carta in 1215, by the Parliament in
1265, and in 1689 with the English Bill of Rights. In 1215, Magna Carta Came along where The
English people had won the right to participate in their government only after a long struggle, the key
victory to this struggle being the signing of Magna Carta, or Great Charter, by King John in 1215
which established the idea that the power of the monarch, or ruler, was limited. Not even the king was
above the law. (Ch. 4, Section 3). This evidence from the text states how the English people won their
right to participate in the government. In the text, it says The next major victory was the founding of
Parliament in 1265. The Parliament was

Claude Mckay s Life During The Harlem Renaissance
During The Harlem Renaissance, artists and writers of the time period would express themselves
through the experiences that they gain from the streets of Harlem. Claude McKay s writings from the
Harlem Renaissance demonstrates life during that time period by showing the Renaissance as defined,
and defied the boundaries of The Harlem Renaissance.
On September 15, 1889, Festus Claudius McKay was born in Sunny Ville Jamaica. His father was
Thomas Francis McKay, and his mother was Hannah Ann Elizabeth Edwards. His parents embraced
their Malagasy and Ashanti heritage and taught Claude at a young age to embrace his African pride.
Claude McKay was the youngest of eleven children and was sent to live with his eldest brother. His
brother, Uriah Theodore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He became aware of the beauty of the great European cathedrals, especially the Catholic ones in
Spain. He later realized that he believed in God in the early 1930s. In his poem Outcast he refers to
religion. It is first brought up in the beginning of the poem My spirit bondaged by the body, longs . He
is referring back to his heritage and his beliefs that he is further questioning. In the article Home At
Last , it states how Claude McKay became involved with the communist party, but later began to find
the religious outlooks of Christianity that were beneficial and inspirational. It is stated that McKay
made the decision to turn his political views into art that later turned into Christianity. Later on in the
poem, on lines 7 8, he states While to its alien gods I bend my knee . In the analysis this poem in the
article Thematic Trends in Claude McKay s Selected Poems of the Harlem Era , it is stated under the
topic of religion The persona having been taken away from the shores of Africa is made to embrace
alien gods in a foreign land. This states how he was stuck in the memory of his heritage and felt
imprisoned in a foreign land. A novel that Claude McKay wrote close to the end of the Harlem
Renaissance was discovered and showed the influence Communism had on his writing. The
manuscript was called Amiable With Big Teeth . According to News York Times, the manuscript was

Mechanotransduction, which is the process by which cells...
Mechanotransduction, which is the process by which cells converts mechanical stimuli to biochemical
signaling cascades, is involved in the homeostasis of numerous tissues. The mechanotransduction of
oscillatory shear stress by bone resident cells has gained special attention because of its role in
regulating bone formation, remodeling and disease. Mechanical forces, especially, fluid shear stress
has been observed to induce several cellular responses in osteoblastic cells, including intracellular
calcium influx, stress fiber formation, ATP, nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 release, MAPK
activation and gene expression changes 1 5. In particular, there is intense interest in identifying the
primary molecular mechanism of the osteoblast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even cells that have been shown to sense mechanical forces (e.g, apical fluid shear) through changes
in the specific activities as a result of stress induced deformation at the apical surface, respond
differently to the same mechanical stimulus depending on the deformation at the basal surface (106).
Thus the physiologic response of the cell to any mechanical stress is governed by the physical state of
the whole cell, and not by changes in any single signaling molecules. This cellular mechano sensing
and corresponding responsiveness of a cell firstly governed by the stress imposed on it specifically at
the surface. In most of the mechanotransduction studies, the descriptions of the imposed force
amplitude are grossly mentioned (like...). But the force variations include magnitudal and vectorial
changes at sub cellular surface due to heterogeneous surface physical/rheological properties (surface
topology, fluidity and stiffness), which actually govern the spatial activation of the biochemical signal
are overlooked. In fact, the determination of spatial surface stress map is very necessary for
interpreting any type of cellular response that made by mechanical force. Thus, before analysis of the
mechanotransduction, in this chapter, we first computationally determined the cell surface shear stress
map using the cell surface topology information obtained by AFM. This stress map further can explain
the related spatial cellular activity as cellular deformation more

Analysis Of Octavia Butler s Series Of The Parables
I entered Butler University as an English major believing that what we choose to read changes the way
we think, and literature shapes the society we live in. I later changed my major to International
Studies, an interdisciplinary course of study, which allowed me to foster my understanding of the
global society, the complexities of intercultural interactions, and the ability to apply political theories
to interpret one situation from multiple perspectives. When choosing the topic for my senior thesis, I
was torn between delving into a political crisis or taking the opportunity to re visit my love of
literature in an academic framework. Speculative fiction is the crossroads I have found between my
love of literature and my passion for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two prominent, but conflicting, interpretations are presented by Garrett Hardin and Elinor Ostrom.
Garrett Hardin first proposed in 1998 that the tragedy of the commons cannot be solved with a
technical solution, which he claims is the most socially acceptable type of solution. Hardin goes on to
point out and question social boundaries by challenging his reader to ask him or herself what is good
(Hardin 1244). He acknowledges that good is usually considered to be a varied concept that is open to
human interpretation and construction; however, natural selection commensurates the
incommensurable (1244). Hardin s proposal that freedom is the catalyst for ruin in a communal
society is one of his most controversial claims because he argues that autonomy leaves room for
selfish motivations that lead to the destruction of the overall good. For example, Hardin briefly
discusses world pollution. The atmosphere and oceans are shared resourced or commons for which
many people do not feel responsible, and thus, they are commons which have been damaged and
polluted, affecting both those culpable and inculpable of the created cesspool (1245). Hardin s
interpretation challenges traditional morals that stem

Importance Of The Jury System
The American jury system is used most commonly in court, but many question if the jury system
should still be included in trials. The jury system should be kept in court trials because it will ensure
justice is properly made, allow citizens to be involved in the court system, allow citizens to be heard
by the government, and it reviews forgotten evidence shown in court. Some American citizens are
beginning to doubt the trial by jury aspect of court systems, but the majority still supports this system.
A jury is a group of people who decide the fate of the defendant. Juries play a large role in court
systems and help decide the punishment of the accused. Justice is something every human wants made
for someone when being accused of a crime. Having a jury will let unbiased citizens review the facts
and speculations discussed during a case and come to a decision. The use of different views from
multiple people helps look at evidence different ways and see hidden information. Joe Adamson
states, I think it is really great that we have science, but we also have common sense. These jurors
didn t buy into science fiction (Doc D). This statement represents that justice was made in regards of
the accused. The jurors studied the evidence and came to a decision using the facts and also hidden or
forgotten aspects of the case. A jury system allows citizens to be involved in the government by
participating in a trial by jury. Allowing citizens to be involved in a jury system shows

Self-Confidence As An Emergency Nurse
Self confidence is viewed one of the most influential aspect in people s everyday lives (Bandura,
1986). As an emergency nurse responder, they are moderately confident in dealing efficiently with
emergency situations while performing basic life support to a victim. Moderately true can have its
contributors and factors why the emergency nurse responders mostly chose this instead of being
exactly true. One being, Moderately confident that the responders mentioned that they have joined or
gone through enough trainings/programs on basic life support for the responders to say they are
confident enough to apply what they have learned. Even being with the institution for a long period, in

The Literary Works That I Will Be Featuring
The two literary works that I will be featuring are a short story and novel; both set centuries apart yet,
connect with one another in linguistic principles. Both horror writers and with this genre, semantics
can be quite fascinating. Both King and Poe, focus on the various levels of semantics horror and
psychological. The semantic perspective of Christine are that of modern day slang, teenage
symbolism. With semantic idioms and jokes, you would see the humor behind the man with the scary
mask. Christine s characters are teenagers, besides the a little parental irresponsibility, with these
hormonal teens, plus Christine. Arnie and Dennis, were full of idioms, such as, I just had this call to
nature, or I gotta take a whiz! (King) Some commonly used idioms were most directly, ones of love
and anger. Arnie due to the possession or should I say obsession of Christine, his vocabulary goes
from chess club nerb to garage bralling bully. The bully, Repperton was as rough and ignorant as they
come and he spoke like it. Keep your jock on, man or as Dennis put it, Eat me raw through a Flavor
Straw! (King) These guys were the kings of semantic idioms. The semantic perspective is about
understanding meaning in words and their sentence structure. Shifts in meaning changes, especially
with slang words. The meaning of this popular American English culture novel was a metaphorical
teenage love triangle. For Poe, his short story, The Tell Tale Heart would be dramatically

Phoenix Jackson Hero
Many people in the world have a hero that they look up to. Some of the heros can be a parent, a
celebrity, or a certain relative. In the short story A Worn Path by Eudora Welty there is a woman that is
considered a hero. This women is a hero to her grandson. She did something that was unbelievable
and a great quantity of people would not even think of doing at one point in their lives. This hero is
named Phoenix Jackson. She is a old Negro woman that takes this path a lot that is in the woods and
she always walks plenty of miles to get to her destination. In this story Phoenix is a huge hero because
she goes on this huge adventure for her grandson. Phoenix goes on this huge adventure. She goes
through the woods and walks to town to go to the doctor s office and get medication for her grandson
because he is really sick. Phoenix Jackson will do anything to help her grandson. Far out in the
country there was an old Negro woman with her head tied in a red rag, coming along a path through
pinewoods (pg 47). This shows that the woods she walks through is a path that she walks through a lot

forgets why she was at the doctor s office. My grandson. It was my memory had left me. There I sat
and forgot why I made my long trip (53). Phoenix s memory is not that good so she is starting to

Compare And Contrast Softball And Baseball Essay
Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game, said the great Babe Ruth. Most
people think softball and baseball are the same sport, but although they are a lot alike they have a lot
of differences. Most people think the only difference between softball and baseball is the gender of the
player, but it s not. Though softball is mainly women and baseball is generally men, there is no rule
anywhere stating that women can t play baseball and men can t play softball. They have so many more
differences than people think. Softball and baseball come from the same origin and are based upon the
same general ideas. Even though softball and baseball seem similar they are actually different because
of the rules, the equipment, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While on base you can lead off but you have to wait until after the pitch has been released. The bases
are only spread 60 feet apart which is why the pitch has to be released before you can lead off in
softball. The ball is also different, the ball for softball is significantly larger and softer. The bats in
softball are usually thinner and made out of aluminum, while the gloves are larger. The gloves are
larger because the ball is larger. The last thing for softball is the pitching, the pitch itself is underhand.
The pitching mound is on a level surface with the batter and it is also closer to the batter.
Baseball is a similar sport but there are a lot of significant differences. The games last nine innings
and can also go into overtime. On base in the game the runner can lead off at anytime, the reason for
that is the bases are 90 feet apart. The ball is very small and because of that the gloves are smaller. The
bats in baseball are usually made out of wood. The pitching in baseball is odd, the mound is on a
slight hill making the pitching throw downward to hit the strike zone. The players pitch overhand
almost as if to just be throwing the ball. The mound is farther away from the batter in this

The actual way in which Mr Spurlock conducts these interviews is humourous, entertaining and just
genius. A good example is when Spurlock interviews a group of pre schoolers after he comes up with
the theory that perhaps it Is not the general public s fault that they consume such a ridiculous amount
of McDonald s, suggesting that such stupidity is the result of it being all people knew since they were
kids. In the interview, Spurlock shows the group of pre schoolers a number of photos of famous
people and asks each individual to name them. He finds that while half of them can hardly speak
properly, when shown a picture of McDonald s fries and Ronald McDonald, not one of them fails to
say McDonald s and that they all know who Ronald McDonald is, thus proving his theory. In my
opinion, however, the biggest contributing factor to the success of Supersize Me is simply the director
s magnetic personality and keen sense of humour. Little things Spurlock says or does like My

Detection Of Optic Disc Location
Automatic Detection of optic disc location in Color Fundus Retinal Images Using Circle Operator
Abstract In this work a method is proposed to detect optic disk (OD) automatically in color retinal
fundus image without using background mask and blood vessels. Based on the properties of OD, an
idea of circle operator is presented here. This method has been applied on six public databases and the
promising results are obtained. The experimental results indicate that this proposed method of
automatic OD detection has good accuracy and is also time efficient.
In modern ophthalmology, detection of optic disk is a very important step for retinal image analysis. It
is one of the main feature of extracting the anatomical structure of the retina as illustrated in Fig. 1(a).
Optic disk can be defined as the circular brighter region in retinal fundus image where blood vessels
converge and optic nerve is formed. OD detection is very indispensable for the computer aided
diagnosis of different eye diseases such as glaucoma detection and diabetic retinopathy [1]. Fig. 1(b)
represents the fundus image with retinal lesion.
Many optic disc detection methods have been proposed ear lier. In [4] [6], image brightness based
methods are proposed. In these methods it is expected that the OD usually resembles according to the
brightest pixels within fundus images. In [7] and [8], image variation based methods are proposed
based on the statement that the OD has a high image variation due to the

  • 2. Mrs Mallard Oppression The Story of an Hour , is a short story written by Kate Chopin in 1894. Throughout this time frame, the Women s Suffrage Movement was going on as well as the constrained traditions of feminine roles. Men were known to be dominant and this short story connects very well with this time frame. In The Story of an Hour , Kate Chopin addresses many of the concerns that are central to feminism, by using verbal, situational and dramatic irony, as well as imagery and flashback, unveiling the issues of oppression and suppression in women. The main character of the story Mrs. Mallard, is firstly introduced to the reader. To the readers surprise, Louise dies of a heart attack at that very moment. When the doctor came there said to she had died of a heart disease of joy that kills (308). While the Mallards marriage was functional and not horribly cruel, Louise still appreciated the new found freedom that she had when she thought her husband was gone. She died not only from a heart attack but at the realization that she would have to go back to a sub surd role, a repressed situation, she would not live for just herself but she would have to bend her will to someone else, and this robbing of the freedom is what really killed her. Josephine, Brentley and the doctor believed that Louise was overwhelmed with joy at seeing her husband alive that the shock kills her, given her fragile heart condition. However the reader is privy to the thoughts in Louise s head and may interpret the ending differently. Seeing Louise s heart breaking sense that her freedom and autonomy was now dashed to the ground is what really killed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examples Of Transactional Analysis Transactional Analysis is a theory in psychology developed by Dr. Eric Berne. It is a method for studying relationships and interactions between individuals, considering that people have multi faceted personalities. It also examines how a person interacts towards other people based on the notion that an individual s personality can change over time. Transaction is the fundamental unit of social intercourse, which is the basic element of this study. According to Berne, if two or more people come across each other, one of them will speak or acknowledge the presence of the others. Another person will then respond in a way related to what the other has said (Berne, 2015). The transactions between people can be affected by ego states. An ego ... This type of life position is characterized by feeling helpless as compared to other people. A person in this life position feels depressed and inferior to other people (Newton, 2015). He/she may accept criticisms and negative strokes from others readily. Another type of life position is called the Hostile Weakness or I m not OK, you re not OK . Walton s article From control to commitment in the workplace is a groundbreaking work which advocates that managers evolve from using the control strategy to ultimately adopting the commitment strategy. The discussion below considers his description of a control organization by looking at a case study. The case study which will be put under the microscope for the discussion focuses on developments which have led to degradation in how the workforce is managed at the Slade Company. Otto was also not able to control how workers interpersonal relations and their performance. There were informal groups created and in the case of the group led by Tony Sarto, they interacted mostly among themselves, to the detriment of division and against what was the norm within the company. For instance, when the group did overtime on the weekends, they operated as a team regardless of work assignments (Slade, p.3). The hierarchy mechanism was also flawed because, Otto s brother, Herman Schell lacked proper supervision. This is compounded by the fact that all of the 38 workers in the plating division had to be overseen by one person, without support. Within a control organization there is also the notion that work is mainly to get a fair day s pay for a fair day s work; managers see workers as a variable cost (Walton, p.78). At Slade this was evident in how workers were perceived and compensated. They were paid $1.25 an hour for 60 hours a week and were paid at the overtime rate for hours exceeding then normal 60 hours. Exhibit 5 which is the Plating Room Personnel chart provides a deeper understanding of how management viewed workers as a variable cost. When first entering in America, British folk music was distinguished by three chord tunes, sparse instrumentation (with some fiddlers), mostly male performers, improvisation, the singers sporadic shouts (Scottish yips ), Christian themes served up in hundreds of hymns, and a secular collection of songs that told stories, generally about love and lost love, using metaphor and symbol to tell those stories (Allen 101). By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, British music changed and became Americanized. Vocal harmonizing slowly evolved, and fiddlers were accompanied by those who played banjo, an African American opening. Tambourines and bones (tapping out rhythms using pork rib bones) were a minstrel show contribution (Allen 102). When African Americans were forced into slavery and brought to North America in the 1600s, they brought their own musical traditions and sounds. Slaves who were on the Mississippi River Valley delta soil developed what will later be introduced as blues music. On the plantations, slaves greatly changed British American hymn singing. They took non religious British American songs and turned it into their own forms of music that followed their culture and taste of music. Blues emerged in the early twentieth century at the same time country music became settled from its folk roots. The article by Craig Reinarman, Criminalisation, legalisation and the mixed blessing of medicalisation in the USA generates many controversial issues of cannabis. The two sided debate between embracing medical use of the drug through the therapeutic benefits and the link between cannabis and psychosis is explored. This issues also stems the question of the legitimacy of legalisation and criminalisation of cannabis and how key concepts are raised including moral entrepreneur and social locus . In today s society as cannabis is becoming increasingly normalised , the theory that cannabis is a gateway drug also arises. Despite the current marijuana laws, medical research has shown a variety of therapeutic benefits that arise from the use of cannabis. Daisy is living a life of luxury while Myrtle is struggling to make ends meet. Because Wilson is a passive aggressive character, he does not want to admit to himself that his wife would cheat on him, even though Tom makes it apparent that Myrtle is more his wife or property than she will ever be to Wilson. For example, when Tom visits Myrtle at the garage Myrtle orders Wilson to fetch some chairs while she gives her true lover a warm greeting. Wilson gives to Myrtle his complete trust in the same way he provides Myrtle with what she asks for, but she abuses it. She takes her husband for granted while at the same time, she gazes at Tom sitting on a pedestal she has made for him. Tom is the man that can make Myrtle s every fantasy come true, but also the man that will lead to her early death. Myrtle is seen to be a fun and floozy mistress, but not as a real wife. She, as superficial as it may be, is not someone that Tom could take to parties and introduce to his parents. Myrtle controls Wilson, while Tom manipulates her simply for enjoyment. Tone Injection Essay This technique increases the constellation size so that each of the point in the original basic constellation can be mapped into several equivalent points in the expanded constellation. Since substituting a point in the basic constellation for a new point in the larger constellation is equivalent to injecting a tone of the appropriate frequency and phase in the multicarrier signal, therefore, this technique is called tone injection. The extra degrees of freedom, which is generated as each symbol in the data block can be mapped into one of the several equivalent constellation points, can be utilized for peak to average power ratio reduction. The distance between the original and extended points is D. The receiver remains unaltered. D is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Various works are available in literature mainly focusing on complexity reduction of optimization problem. A gradient algorithm is proposed where the gradient of clipping noise mean square error is calculated and optimization of signal to clipping noise ratio is done in place of peak to average power ratio and order of complexity is O(N). A truncated IDFT algorithm is proposed where in place of calculating entire IDFT values, it calculates on maximal IDFT element thus reducing complexity of optimization process. The basic idea is to divide the group in two halves of N/2 and leave the half with lesser energy and move in similar way till we reach the maximum energy element, however this scheme may not always give correct maximal IDFT element, it also costs in lower peak to average power ratio reduction. For designing the peak cancelling signal clipping noise is analysed and several iterations of clipping and filtering are used till desired peak cancellation signal is generated. References also proposed an adaptive scaling algorithm and constant scaling algorithm for tone reservation. LSA TR method with fast convergence is proposed which is based on least square approximation and used to find the peak cancelling signal faster than clipping control TR method. References used genetic algorithm to find the optimal PRC set, it also discussed an adaptive amplitude clipping tone reservation algorithm (AAC TR) to solve the optimization ... The country as we see it now did not exist even 50 years ago. The purpose of this paper is to detail how the region was colonized, how Bangladesh came to be and a brief overview of how it is doing now. As most geographers know that there is an intense relationship between Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, for good reason too. Since Pakistan, India and Bangladesh were all part of colonial India, it is logical to assume that these three countries will experience similar levels of development. I will attempt to deduce this using GNI per capita, GDP per capita and the HDI Index. Figure 1 GNI per Capita: Figure 2 GDP Per Capita: Figure 3 Human Development Index: It is clear from the data above that India has outpaced both Pakistan and Bangladesh in recent times leading me to believe that the proposed theory does not hold true for Bangladesh. This is probably because the British set up different types of colonies in different regions, causing dissimilarities in growth. Pakistan and Bangladesh has been virtually the same on the HDI index but Pakistan beats Bangladesh in both GNI and GDP per capita. Britain as an Awkward Partner in the European Community Britain emerged from the war in a relatively favourable position, compared to its European neighbours. In 1946 industrial production was as high as at any time pre war, and increasing quite fast. By the end of the year exports had regained their pre war level along with this there was little unemployment and retail prices remained fairly stable. All this contrasted strongly with the situation in France, Germany and Italy. Indeed in the late 1940 s and into the early 1950 s Britain s economy performed better then it s European counterparts. • 21. The Controversy Of Cloning And Genetic Engineering Essay Introduction God and Nature first made us what we are, and then out of our own created genius we make ourselves what we want to be... Let the sky and God be our limit and Eternity our measurement Marcus Garvey (1887 1940). Cloning and genetically modifying humans is now more attainable than ever due to strides made by science. With a relatively short history, cloning and genetic engineering have been a new concept for many people in society with the first proof of cloning being dolly the sheep, the first successful clone born by the somatic cell nuclear transfer procedure [1]. Cloning over the years has evolved and now could be used to someday help people requiring organ transplants, recover from traumatic injuries and aid infertile couples with its reproductive possibilities [4]. On the other hand, genetic engineering can also be a great benefit as through gene therapy, genetic diseases can be prevented and quite possibly being wiped from existence. Another benefit of genetic engineering is that it can also allow infertile couples to have a baby but to do this would require the genetic information of a surrogate alongside the couple s genetic information [12]. This could result in many complications which is why there is a great controversy on this matter. Although cloning is known by a plethora of people, whereas the minority of the population knows of genetic engineering which brings up the question, what is genetic engineering? In a world that is surrounded by terrorism, aggression and crime, the way violence is represented in the media can be crucial. Most viewers define violence as an act that breaks out of a personal comfort zone and therefore opinions of how violent a scene is can differ. Arguments for the link between violence in the media and real life focus on the perpetrator of violence being unable to acknowledge the difference between reality and the fiction portrayed in film. The synchronous diagetic sounds of punching and kicking are overly exaggerated. This emphasises the violence but at the same time makes the scene become less severe and somewhat comical. There is no music at the start of the scene; this creates realism and a tense atmosphere. After a pause in the action, the first piece of dialogue is spoken. Jackie Chan is taunted and challenged. Ms. Smith, an early childhood professor at Clemson University, spoke about why it is vital for teachers to create classrooms incorporating play and movement, gave some advice on how to achieve this, and told us when we could incorporate movement during the day. Being an accomplished musician and composer of his time he has had many important roles in his life. During the Renaissance it rose to prominence and in the Baroque period, stood as a wealthy city amongst Hamburg and Frankfurt. Geck and Mann state that due to Bachs role as Kantor he couldn t take on the role of Capellmeister in the way he would of wished too, much to his dismay (560). Perhaps this is why he was so involved in the Collegium Musicum, because it provided him with opportunities to explore and deliver an enriched music environment to the city of Leipzig. Stauffer discusses how Telemann should be accredited for the formation of the group and it s impact on cultural life in Leipzig. After the parting of Telemann and the collegium in 1705 there had been three directors; Melchoir Hoffman (1704 15), Johann Gottfried Vogler (171515 20) and Georg Balthasar Schott (1720 29). During Bach s leadership of the group, meetings were held in Zimmermans coffee house in the winter and Zimmermans garden in the summer. They performed concerts with orchestra and choir in a semi public location. These concerts were of importance as they started to gain popularity and become somewhat of a city interest (Pankratz 325). The Collegium assisted Bach with composing and performing pieces, as he had ample concerts and musicians to draw inspiration from. Bach realized the importance of having under him the music at the Paulinerkirche as well so as to have help of university students in his presentation (Pankratz ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Years after the first public housing estate, Shek Kip Mei estate was built, the government has studied and discovered that core districts, Kowloon and the northern part of Hong Kong Island, have been rapidly populated that they are reaching their maximum capacity due to the wave of baby boom and illegal immigrants from Mainland China who escape to Hong Kong for the Cultural Revolution happening in the north . Prince Hal in Shakespeare s Henriad Essay Prince Hal in Shakespeare s Henriad The question that Shakespeare raises throughout the series of Henry IV, Part I, Henry IV, Part II, and Henry V is that of whether Prince Hal (eventually King Henry V), is a true manifestation of an ideal ruler, and whether he is a rightful heir to his father s ill begotten throne. England is without a true king, being run by a ruler without the right of divine providence on his side altogether, a very difficult situation for a young, inexperienced, and slightly delinquent Prince to take on. The task of proving himself a reliable Prince and a concerned ruler is of utmost importance to Hal, as he does not enjoy the mantle of divine right perhaps by being an excellent ruler, Hal can make up for the ... (1H4, 1.2.199 207) Prince Hal shows a great deal of insight in this revelation; his words show that he realizes he has a twofold boundary to overcome: first, he is seen as overly juvenile and flighty by most of his father s men; second, and more importantly, Hal knows that he has no claim to the divine right to rule, as he is not of Richard II s bloodline. It seems, then, that Hal knows full well the way that men respond to the image of royalty, and [is] no less instinctive a politician than his father, and is in fact the creator as well as the creature of political mythology, the author as well as the hero of his legend (Ornstein, 137). Mechanotransduction, which is the process by which cells converts mechanical stimuli to biochemical signaling cascades, is involved in the homeostasis of numerous tissues. The mechanotransduction of oscillatory shear stress by bone resident cells has gained special attention because of its role in regulating bone formation, remodeling and disease. Mechanical forces, especially, fluid shear stress has been observed to induce several cellular responses in osteoblastic cells, including intracellular calcium influx, stress fiber formation, ATP, nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 release, MAPK activation and gene expression changes 1 5. In particular, there is intense interest in identifying the primary molecular mechanism of the osteoblast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even cells that have been shown to sense mechanical forces (e.g, apical fluid shear) through changes in the specific activities as a result of stress induced deformation at the apical surface, respond differently to the same mechanical stimulus depending on the deformation at the basal surface (106). Thus the physiologic response of the cell to any mechanical stress is governed by the physical state of the whole cell, and not by changes in any single signaling molecules. This cellular mechano sensing and corresponding responsiveness of a cell firstly governed by the stress imposed on it specifically at the surface. In most of the mechanotransduction studies, the descriptions of the imposed force amplitude are grossly mentioned (like...). But the force variations include magnitudal and vectorial changes at sub cellular surface due to heterogeneous surface physical/rheological properties (surface topology, fluidity and stiffness), which actually govern the spatial activation of the biochemical signal are overlooked. In fact, the determination of spatial surface stress map is very necessary for interpreting any type of cellular response that made by mechanical force. Thus, before analysis of the mechanotransduction, in this chapter, we first computationally determined the cell surface shear stress map using the cell surface topology information obtained by AFM. This stress map further can explain the related spatial cellular activity as cellular deformation more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Two prominent, but conflicting, interpretations are presented by Garrett Hardin and Elinor Ostrom. Garrett Hardin first proposed in 1998 that the tragedy of the commons cannot be solved with a technical solution, which he claims is the most socially acceptable type of solution. Hardin goes on to point out and question social boundaries by challenging his reader to ask him or herself what is good (Hardin 1244). He acknowledges that good is usually considered to be a varied concept that is open to human interpretation and construction; however, natural selection commensurates the incommensurable (1244). Hardin s proposal that freedom is the catalyst for ruin in a communal society is one of his most controversial claims because he argues that autonomy leaves room for selfish motivations that lead to the destruction of the overall good. For example, Hardin briefly discusses world pollution. The atmosphere and oceans are shared resourced or commons for which many people do not feel responsible, and thus, they are commons which have been damaged and polluted, affecting both those culpable and inculpable of the created cesspool (1245). The jury system should be kept in court trials because it will ensure justice is properly made, allow citizens to be involved in the court system, allow citizens to be heard by the government, and it reviews forgotten evidence shown in court. Some American citizens are beginning to doubt the trial by jury aspect of court systems, but the majority still supports this system. A jury is a group of people who decide the fate of the defendant. Juries play a large role in court systems and help decide the punishment of the accused. Justice is something every human wants made for someone when being accused of a crime. Having a jury will let unbiased citizens review the facts and speculations discussed during a case and come to a decision. The use of different views from multiple people helps look at evidence different ways and see hidden information. Detection Of Optic Disc Location Automatic Detection of optic disc location in Color Fundus Retinal Images Using Circle Operator Abstract In this work a method is proposed to detect optic disk (OD) automatically in color retinal fundus image without using background mask and blood vessels. Based on the properties of OD, an idea of circle operator is presented here. This method has been applied on six public databases and the promising results are obtained. The experimental results indicate that this proposed method of automatic OD detection has good accuracy and is also time efficient. In modern ophthalmology, detection of optic disk is a very important step for retinal image analysis. It is one of the main feature of extracting the anatomical structure of the retina as illustrated in Fig. 1(a). Optic disk can be defined as the circular brighter region in retinal fundus image where blood vessels converge and optic nerve is formed. OD detection is very indispensable for the computer aided diagnosis of different eye diseases such as glaucoma detection and diabetic retinopathy [1]. Fig. 1(b) represents the fundus image with retinal lesion. Many optic disc detection methods have been proposed ear lier. In [4] [6], image brightness based methods are proposed.
