The Perception Of Human Communication
Prejudice, Stereotype, and how they affect listening
Often humans form opinions about one another that may hinder them from listening to a particular group or person
effectively. Two ways listening can be impaired is by stereotypes and prejudices formed before a certain person even
expresses themselves nonverbally or verbally. According to the book Fundamentals of Human Communication the word
stereotype is defined as: Rigid and usually negative assumptions about personal and social qualities of people who are
members of a particular social category. (G 10) Another scholarly source confirms this definition by stating that a stereotype
is a fixed or over generalized belief about a particular group or class of people. (Cardwell, 1996) Over the years people
describe types of communication as stereotypical because it allows a communicator to judge the outcome of a conversation
before it even occurs. Stereotypes can sometimes be viewed as advantageous in certain situations because it allows a
communicator to judge an outcome of a situation based on past situations. For example, if a mother has talked to a doctor
previously about how to treat a cold and his advice worked well, chances are she will stereotype what will take place the
next time she has a cold and consults a doctor before it even happened. On the other hand, in this case stereotyping can be
bad when you assume what the other communicator is going to say or do, prejudging the outcome, and you are wrong.

The Study of the Dunbar Cave in Montgomery County,...
This article talks about the study of the Dunbar Cave in Montgomery County, Tennessee to learn more about the varied
ways that the cave was used by people. Many of the artifacts that was in the cave linked its usage time to be from the Late
Paleo Indian to the Mississippian period. The article define dark zone cave art as the decorations in the areas of the caves
that is beyond the reach of external lights . Mug Glyph Cave art was found in the 12th Unnamed Cave in Tennessee and
since then sixty nine other caves that had dark zone cave art were found. The artifacts and chronological data from these
sites indicates that the tradition of cave art began 6000 years ago. In 2005 one of the author join a group of explorers search

The authors said there were signs of human activities in the caves and that there are more archaeological work that need to
be done. The article main idea was to showed the prehistoric uses of the Dunbar Cave in Montgomery County, Tennessee. I
liked the article because the authors gave a good enough background information so that the reader can understand it. They
also define some of the vocabulary that was used so that the reader completely understand what they were talking about.
The article also included tables and detail information on what the table is talking about. For example, one of the table is
about the Radiocarbon age determination from the Dunbar cave. At first glance the information is very confusing, but after a
while I can see what the authors was referring to and where they got their information from. One of the problem that the
article had was when they were interpreting one of the pictograph. After reading the descriptions I went back and look at the
image, I could not see what they authors were referring to. I realized that most of the pictures needed interpretation, but
sometimes I feel like the interpretations of the pictographs is a little of to how the authors wants the readers to see it. Then
again, in one of the pictures the authors were able to

Essay On Greek Immigration
For this assignment, I decided to focus my research on Greek immigrants. As I was reading page 797, I noticed the author
mentioned, Greek restaurant owners provided a selection of American and Greek cuisines. It was also mentioned, Greek
immigration most profoundly impacted mainstream foodservice (pg.797). I found these facts to be of great importance when
discussing food choices, therefore I wanted to do more research on Greek Immigrants. I learned, after migrating to the
United States, many Greek families claimed Michigan as their new home. More specifically, Greektown, located in Detroit,
Michigan. I also discovered Germans were actually the first to settle in Greektown, then once they moved out, Greeks
families began settling in this area. During the late 1800 s through the early 1900 s, a large population of immigrants from
Greece emigrated to the United States. To get a better perspective, I viewed an older book written in 1911 titled, Greek ...

Greek cuisine also tends to consist of meats such as lamb and poultry. I believe Greeks are culinary liberals. After the
emigration to the United States, many of the restaurants they owned offered a wide selection of Greek American foods.
While learning more about those of Greek Ancestry, I discovered March is Greek American Heritage Month. I also recall
hearing about a Greek Festival which takes place every year in Ann Arbor, MI. I went to www.annarborgreekfestival.org, to
find out more information on this festival. It is called the Ya ssoo Greek Festival of Ann, Arbor. It spans over a three day

Sherwood Anderson s Society As An Outsiders
In Sherwood Anderson s Hands, and William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, both authors introduced main characters who are
alienated in their respective societies. In Anderson s work, Wing Biddlebaum is an outsider because he wants to escape from
his society since he has been accused of being a child molester. Similarly, in Faulkner s work, Emily hides from society
since the prying eyes of the people who see her gaze and oppression. In this way, both characters are outsiders in their
communities by the people s eyes on them. There are a variety of people in our society and divide into two main groups.
There are people who associate easily with other people are more likely to interact with people. However, there are people
who live in a quiet do not mix with other people. We call those people an outsider. To define an outsider as a single sentence
from dictionary.com, A person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc (1). There are also various definitions of
the outsider. Among them, Wing Biddlebaum who is the main character in Anderson s work is not an outsider from the
beginning. He chooses to become an outsider because people are misunderstanding his action with hands. Emily who is the
main character in Faulkner s work is an outsider from the start. Emily, who grew up in a wealthy family, is afraid of people
eyes to her. In Sherwood Anderson s Hands, it is Wing Biddlebaum s story who becomes an outsider himself by his hands.

Use Of Pictographs Can Improve Cross Cultural Communication
Pictographs
Moreover, the use of pictographs can improve cross cultural communication. Pictograms is a visual language aim to
establish the most important type of communication using visual language to transcending language barriers. For instance, it
was stated, Languages allow us to communicate with each other in a relatively effortless way because they rely on many
types of conventions (e.g., morphological, syntactic, semantic, phonetic) (Nakamura Zeng Treitler, 2012, p. 535). It is a
language that enables the essential meaning to be understood visually at a glance, irrespective of differences of cultural or
language.
In additional, pictograms is use in the Medical Health industry to improve the communication with people who speak
different languages. To emphasize, it was stated, As a universal language to communicate with people speaking different
languages, pictographs can be an efficient tool to improve healthcare education for this underserved population (Choi,
2011). Pictograph is a powerful tool to use for cross cultural communication.
Furthermore, the ability to have and create pictograph will enhance cross cultural communication. For instance, as it was
stated, There is a good chance that pictographs created using a combination of representation strategies may yield higher
recognition rates. (Choi, 2011) The combination of pictographs and communication will improve the language barriers in
cross cultural communication.

Yellow Perch Research Paper
Average Yellow Perch length (TL) ranged from 87 (age 1) to 223mm (age 5), whereas, Pumpkinseed length ranged from
47mm (age 1) to 194mm (age 6) which is similar to other findings in many lakes in North America (Scott Crossman 1998;
Pierce, Rasmussen, Leggett 1990). Pumpkinseed growth was constant for the first 4 5 years, then began to slow, whereas,
growth in Yellow perch was constant for the first 2 3 years and began to slow which is similar to other studies (Copp, et al.
2004; Lauer Doll 2007). This may be due to maturation age when energy is allocated to reproduction (Roff 1983). Purchase
et al. (2005) studied life history traits of Yellow Perch in many Ontario lakes and found that Yellow Perch mature around
age 2 (Purchase et al. 2005). Maturation age in Pumpkinseed is variable between lakes, but many reach maturity in their
third year (Copp et al. 2004). Our results indicate that Pumpkinseed in this population may mature later since growth doesn

Singapore s Economic Growth And Political Stability

years later and became independent. Over the years, Singapore has grown its international trading links becoming one of the
most prosperous countries. Singapore has been compared to the leading nations of Western Europe when it comes to its per

Cultural Narratives Influence On Society
In the short amount of time that humanity has inhabited this planet, we have managed to leave a bigger imprint than any
other species. The human population is well over 7 billion individuals and the presence of humanity is extended to all four
corners of the globe. As a result of the large population, intellectual superiority, and the wide range of human existence,
humanity has naturally transformed into a diverse populace. Consequently, cultural narratives are prominent in our daily
lives and play a role in shaping our social interactions, opinions, and lifestyles. The influence of cultural narratives have
only expanded with the growth in technology. Technology provides a platform for individuals to be connected with regions
on the opposite side of the globe within seconds. This advancement has led to the widespread dispersion of cultural
traditions and tendencies. This is evident in the news, social media, and other media platforms. Different cultures have
developed different beliefs about what norms are and abide by those beliefs. If someone falls out of the lines of normality,
most people immediately formulate an ethnocentric mindset and begin to create opinions that that person s culture is inferior
to their own.
My family and I are especially aware of the degree of influence that cultural narratives have on society. The reason why
cultural narratives have such a considerable influence in our daily lives is due to the fact that we originate from a Muslim
background.

Dreams In Sandra Cisneros s The House On Mango Street
During the novel, The House on Mango Street, author Sandra Cisneros relives a childhood similar to hers, where the main
purpose of life is having the ability to dream. Most characters that live on Mango Street, such as Esperanza Cordero, dream
of having a better life and deserting their past of poverty and struggle. Cisneros constantly makes this apparent to the reader
because without struggle and pain, the reward of escaping the neighborhood is not as meaningful. Throughout the novel,
The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros develops the subject of dreaming through Esperanza s relationships female
family members, the symbol of writing, and the motif of houses. To begin, Cisneros develops Esperanza s relationship with
her mother and her friend, Alicia, in order to promote the fact that leaving a community like Mango Street is possible. These
minor characters do not play a huge role in Esperanza s life, yet they unknowingly show her that it was, and still is possible
to get out. Alicia is significant to Esperanza because she proves that it is possible to make it to college. When Esperanza
hears that Alicia studies for the first time at the university (Cisneros 31), she sets this in her mind as an example of what she
is capable of. Her mom also tells her that she could ve been somebody (90). Esperanza s mother was talented in many
categories, such as singing opera, speaking many languages, and working around the house. However, she dropped out of

N.W.A (an abbreviation of Niggaz Wit Attitudes)[1][2][3] was an American hip hop group from Compton, California,
widely considered one of the seminal acts of the gangsta rap and west coast hip hop sub genres, sometimes credited as the
most important group in the history of rap music.[4] Active from 1986 to 1991, the rap group endured controversy due to
the explicit lyrics that many considered to be disrespectful to women, and glorifying drugs and crime. The group was
subsequently banned from many mainstream American radio stations. In spite of this, the group has sold over 10 million
units in the United States alone.
The original lineup consisted of Arabian Prince, DJ Yella, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, and Ice Cube. MC Ren joined in 1988, with ...

The major aim of this article by Paul R. Williams et, al. is an attempt to create a strategic framework that allows parties to

The authors stated that the International community has failed to create an effective framework for managing the issue of

The authors investigation started with a critique of the prevailing Domestic Level Explanations offered by IR scholars, as

Values Of American Values
We the people of the United States, value nothing of importance and take a great deal of what they have for granted. There
are many things that Americans value and a few really are positive values, but definitely not all American values are
important. All of these values have something in common though and that is they all are based off of how other people see
each other. These values are money, possessions, physical features, religion, and how Americans idolize celebrities and view
social status.
Something that almost all Americans value the most is money. Money, everyone needs it and everyone wants more of it, no
matter how much they already have. Americans do tend to be greedy and want all the money they can receive because
without money you can t obtain something in this country. This is negative because it shows that Americans always want
more. But there is a little bit of positive in this because it encourages people to get out and work so they can make more
money. Money is something that all Americans want, and it is negative or something like that

America s Fear Of Crime
America s fear of crime has developed an incarceration binge that has resulted in a disparity in America s prisons, largely,
affecting the underclass; dishonored groups caught in a symbiosis of the ghetto and prison, meaning, that ghettos have
become more like prisons, and so undermined the inmate society, as such, turned prisons, more like ghettos; hence,
developed a state wherein the criminal justice system is the instrument to control the poor (Wacquant, 2010). Inevitably,
societal isolation, constraints the agency of the poor; their racial isolation develops environments, where residential
instability, family disruption and economic inequality facilitate marginality, unequivocally deprecating poor minorities life
chances. Largely, due to socioeconomic forces and manipulation of institutional arrangements by powerful elites, which in
turn, perpetuate the inmate disparity. Thus, maintains the underclass caste, more succinctly, an American apartheid.
Accordingly, general consensus portrays inner cities (i.e. generally poor black neighborhoods), as the apparatus of crime. In
this view, crime emanates from the poor, and so generates an environment credible fear that intensifies racism and frantic
search for solutions in the form of draconian laws (e.g., zero tolerance, War on Drugs policies) that target the underclass and
serve to advance formal social control via prisons. Destitute minorities, disproportionately black and Latino, therefore, are

Kurt Vonnegut s works were affected by his dark viewpoint on human existence, that death is inevitable and his lack of

Slaughterhouse Five, Cat s Cradle, and Breakfast of Champions, but he wrote many others. According to Kurt Vonnegut Jr. ,
Vonnegut s writing style was considered postmodernism. Postmodernism is the use of choppy, vernacular sentences that go

Kurt Vonnegut is known for his use of black humor and his humorous way of looking at something sad or serious often in
his books. Criticism for his most popular book, Slaughterhouse Five, included questions of Vonnegut s Moral Indifference
and as Michael Crichton said, [Vonnegut] refuses to say who is wrong... ascribes no blame, sets no penalties ( qtd in Telegan
and Hile 269). Similarly, Lev Grossman spoke of Vonnegut saying that his opinion of human nature was low, and that the
author was endlessly disappointed in humanity (qtd in Cat s Cradle 70). People even suggested that his frequent repetition
of distinctive phrases, use of colloquialisms, and his digressive manner became overused and uninspired over time ( Kurt
Vonnegut, Jr. 6). Although he was criticized by some as pessimistic, others observe that aspects of his work counter his
gloomy worldview. Vonnegut s humor was loved by his readers, and helped him stand out from other generic works of his
time. As Telegan and Hile quote Robert Scholes, [Vonnegut s humor] does not disguise the awful things perceived; it merely
strengthens and comforts us to the point where such perception is bearable . Robert Scholes also considered his novel,
Slaughterhouse Five, to be an extraordinary success... a book we need to read, and to reread... funny, compassionate, and
wise (264). Vonnegut s writing style set him apart from other authors, and also kept more negative criticism off hi back. He
received lots of praise from many people for his outstanding, different, and interesting works. Terry Southern wrote in 1963,
following the publication of Vonnegut s book Cat s Cradle, to be far more engaging and meaningful other than the
melodramatic tripe which most critics seem to consider serious ( Cat s Cradle 69). In Cat s Cradle , Kurt was also said to be

families. I will ask the students to tell me what they think that division means, and after some discussion, I will ask them to
write that division is used to share equally or create equal groups. I will ask the students to give me some examples of when
they needed to create equal groups of something. I will provide an example of Halloween candy bags, and making sure that
each bag has the same amount in order to be fair. I will choose a few students to share. Next twelve students will be asked to

how groups do we have? (3) and how many students are in each group? (4). Then I will write the multiplication fact 3 x 4 =

will ask the same two questions to the class, how many groups do we have? (4) and how many students are in each group?

Relative Dominance In Pre-Settlement Ecosystems
Table 1 depicts the relative dominance calculated by using our class data. To do this, the basal area was calculated per
individual tree followed by the basal area for each species. Relative dominance was calculated by dividing the basal area per
species by the total basal area. From my calculations, the basal area was 99.97%, relatively close to the expected 100%. In
table 2, the Shannon Diversity Index was calculated, that is, the proportion of a species abundance times the natural log of
that proportion, summed for all species. The calculated value, 4.7977, is reflective of a relatively diverse location.
Pertaining to table 1, the Gleditsia triacanthos with the DBH of 27 had the highest individual basal area of 3.975966 while

Firstly, the amount availability of light, nutrients, and water have a strong impact on what is able or unable to thrive. As the
level of available resources fluctuates, so will the species diversity. Secondly, environmental change is a possibility. Without
it, a vast range of diversity amongst a certain area would not be possible. Lastly, competition within species is a common
occurrence. If the level of resources begins to change, it is likely the surviving species will begin to differ as well ultimately
leading to a change in

Euthyphro Dilemma Research Paper
What is the Euthyphro Dilemma or Problem? How is it resolved? First, Socrates encounters Euthyphro outside the court of
Athens, where he was called upon to be charged with impiety by Meletus, which is the lack of being religious towards god.
On the other end, Euthyphro was present at court that day to prosecute his own father for accidentally murdering an
innocent slave worker, by throwing him in a ditch. Socrates believes Euthyphro must know what is right from wrong, if he
is responsible for the prosecution of his own father. Since, Socrates felt sure that the people of Athenian in general did not
understand the true nature of piety or impiety. Euthyphro claims to know all that needs to be known about what is holy. So,
Euthyphro decided to help Socrates learn about what holiness is, to help him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact is that there should be a reason for something to be valid, and in this case, is something true because it is said to be
true, or is it true because it has evidence that leads to it being true. Also, is piety a convention, a way something is usually
done, a reason, or a cause. So, Euthyphro believed that prosecuting his father was the correct thing to do, he thought that
being pious or morally correct were at the same level as the laws of the physical universe, which is everything that exists
today. At this point Euthyphro knows that he needs to explain piety which helps reference qualities in the way other certain
facts about the world usually do. For example, like Einstein formula, gravity, or even obeying everyday laws. The
Euthyphro dilemma is trying to solve the two questions in which the first one being that, if we assume god could define
anything he wants as good, or secondly if god does not provide the meaning of it then there is a standard which is from
outside and above god. Although god is omnipotent, which is the ability to do

Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
William Golding uses many objects and characters in his story, Lord of the Flies , to develop and symbolize certain aspects
of his story. Lord of the Flies is a story that contrasts good with evil. The story shows how a society without any set up
regulations, develop and grow into a civilization. The novel shows this by placing a group of young boys on an island with
no parents. These pre adolescents give us an inside look at our inner desires and inclinations. Throughout this story, William
uses many distinct symbols to move his story along and show some of the hidden messages. The author not only places
symbols throughout the book, but he makes the symbols dynamic. Throughout the Novel the symbols are constantly
changing. This brings a new perspective to the story. Through the changing symbols we can gain a vast understanding of the
plot and the sequence of the events in the story. With the help of dynamic symbols such as the conch, fire, and the island, we
can interrupt the islands society in a new light.
Power was a main theme in The Lord of the Flies . It was mainly represented by the conch that Ralph was always in
possession of. In the beginning of the Novel, it was a representation of power. On the island, if you wanted to speak, you
had to be holding the conch. Meetings were also called by the conch. The power of the conch shell is seen when all
the...boys vote for Ralph because he blew the conch. (Golding Chapter 1). When the island boys help an election for

Death Comes For The Archbishop Analysis
Death Comes for the Archbishop Reflection Paper
During the reading of unit three s Death comes for the Archbishop, God is easily shown through the reading in book 5,
primarily shown through Bishop Latour and Padre Martinez during their discussion on celibacy. Knowing Padre Martinez is
strong willed and harsh minded person, their conversation on celibacy became somewhat heated, but a learning experience
for Bishop Latour. Bishop Latour was able to understand much more about Padre Martinez by putting himself him Padre
Martinez s shoes during the conversation. He lowered his believes and standards, showing humility, in a graceful way to see
what was trying to be communicated to him. Through this, he was able to see how Padre Martinez sees God

Effects Of Slavery On Native Americans
When columbus first found the Americas little did he or anyone in this case know everything that would happen in the next
few years he would rewrite history and change it to how we know it now.
Many people heard about the new land and thought with this new land would come a new beginning so they started arriving
in fleets from Britain to come for the new land and with so many people coming we needed food and settlers for them and
laws. The thing is though the people who were coming over and going to the south needed workers for farms so they used
natives at first and that didn t work out too well, many of them died because of our diseases and the natives couldn t fight
them off. The native americans also new the land much better than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The north was okay with it for a while then the learned how the slaves we treated. Many of the slaves were whipped, beaten,
underfeed, not even sleep and overworked. Northerners then wanted people to stop slavery, this caused the south to get fed
up with the north because they had been doing it for so long and that was one of the ways the got their food supplies and
money. The north and south then went into war to stop the slavery, many people from the south didn t care though they just
wanted to be able to make money and they never cared about blacks life because they felt superior to blacks. After slavery
was officially banned the idea that whites are better than blacks was what every white felt, this had caused the idea of
racism to grow hugely and the idea of segregation to come about. Many people believed that blacks were lower under them
so they didn t think they should have to go to the same stores or drink out of the same water fountains for example, so they
made two of everything one for whites and another for colored. They gave blacks no rights and whites would be able to kill
blacks out of cold blood and never get punished but if a black just tried to defend themselves they were ordered to be hung.

Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention
1. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are many ways to prevent sexually transmitted
infections (STI) and have safer sex. The best way to prevent STI is abstaining from oral, anal, and vaginal sex. For those
who decided to have sex, limiting the number of partners can reduce the risk of STI. Being in a monogamous relationship
where neither partner has a STI is one of the best ways to prevent getting a STI. There are vaccinations to prevent HPV and
hepatitis B. One of the best ways to prevent the spread of STI is by using a male condom. The CDC website has more
information on how to properly put on a condom and how to properly take a condom off. Following these steps will greatly

The Psychological Impact Of Bullying
In order to solve a problem in a school or elsewhere you need a plan, additionally, you need to find out the cause or causes
of the problem before constructing your plan and this is where research comes in. Research conducted to solve issues or
problems in schools or educational systems are termed Action Research. After sitting and discussing issues and problems in
our education system we decided to tackle the issue of the psychological impact of bullying. The purpose of our action
research was to attempt to improve students academic performance by trying to lessen or eliminate the occurrences of
bullying at J.P Eustace Secondary School. The J.P Eustace Secondary School is labelled by the Vincentian public as being
an unruly school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We decided to use both questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires were constructed at Form Four vocabulary level
and lower to ensure that the respondents would be able to completely understand them. Also, we used the research questions
to guide the construction of the questionnaires. Before distributing the data collection tools we spoke to the staff to
determine which class bullying cases were reported most often they said Form Four. We then did a survey in the form to
find out who has been bullied before to do stratified sampling. This was done this way because it would not have been
efficient and effective to give questionnaires to students who are not being bullied. To triangulate the information that we
were about to collect we decided to use interviews with the questionnaires. This was to ensure that the information that was
collected from the questionnaires were similar to what was collected in the interview. A sample of the students who
completed the questionnaires were later interviewed. I would say that this part of the research mentioned is the most
important as if it is not done correctly the research can go in directions other than desired. If the research has no direction
there would not be an effective action plan to help solve the problems or resolve the issue. Also, this is the stage of the
research where data is

Boo Radley Innocent Analysis
I do not think Boo Radley is the only innocent in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. While he is a very notable one,
there are others who fit into the category. The first two that fit into this category is Scout and Jem. Being children, they
already have an air of innocence as they do not often know enough of the world to be anything but innocent. They were
attacked by Bob Ewell, who was trying to make their father pay. The kids were innocent in the matter as it was Atticus
actions during the trial that had upset him. Despite them being in no way connected to what really happened being revealed,
Bob Ewell still went after them as they were the easier target and it would hurt their father. The other notable innocent is

Essay on Magic in The Descent of Innana and Sappho
Magic in The Descent of Innana and Sappho
In the ancient text The Descent of Innana and the lyric poetry of Sappho, language is viewed as magic. Not only are the
words themselves acting as magic, as in an invocation, but other things manifest themselves as magic throughout the works.
The most common throughout the works of Sappho is that of love. Sappho also shows us the magic of everyday life in many
of her poems. Finally, the writing down of the works performs a magic all of its own; the magic of continuation. Through
the writing of their works the story of Innana and the poetry of Sappho will live on forever. The most obvious use of
language as magic is in The Descent of Innana. This text is actually all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem You know the place: then , Sappho invokes the Goddess Aphrodite. She does this by calling out to the goddess
and naming the place she wishes for Aphrodite to appear. Leave Crete and come to us / waiting where the grove is /
pleasantest, by precincts / sacred to you; incense / smokes on the altar... ( lines 2 6). This shows how words were believed to
hold the power to persuade a god or goddess. The hope was that, if the offering of poetry was beautiful enough, then the god
would grant the request of the poet. This is not the only form of magic that words held for the ancient Greeks.
In another poem that Sappho wrote, A Prayer to Aphrodite , Sappho describes anguished love. Sappho desires nothing more
then to have this unrequited love returned to her arms. In this poem the magic of language calls Aphrodite forth and inspires
her to do Sappho a favor. It inspires the goddess to give Sappho the power to bring this person back to the glittering net of
her arms (19). This shows Sappho s true desire to harness the power of love through the magic of language. If she can only
write this poem beautiful enough then Aphrodite will take pity on her and give her what she most wants.
What s the secret wish of your crazy, wild heart? / Whom must Love compel with Her wily ruses / back into the glittering
net of your arms? / Sappho, who hurts you? (17 20). This is what Sappho wishes to hear from Aphrodite. The power and

A Music Faculty Recital At Prince George s Community College
A Music Faculty Recital at Prince George s Community College was actually the very first concert I ve been to that
included Baroque style. The environment created a nostalgic yet modern and elegant mood; something that made you feel
like you were in the late 1700 s yet still in modern times. The songs were mostly enjoyable and we re all well played. This
concert included an ensemble: the flute, the cello, the piano, and the harpsichord. Peggy Bair, who played the flute, was
very enthusiastic. Irma Cripe, who played the cello, was quiet for the first part of the concert but gradually became more
important throughout the concert. And lastly, the virtuous Gary Kirkeby, who played the piano and harpsichord, served as
the backbone of all parts of the concert and made this concert very enjoyable.
When the concert first began, the three instrumentalists walked with energy despite their age. The first song, Sonata I in G
Major Op. 2, Nr. 1 by Michel Blavet, was a Baroque Sonata. There were five movements and was played by the
harpsichord, flute, and cello. All movements of the song were polyphonic because of the three instruments that had different
parts and equal importance. In the first movement, I noticed that the flute tended to rise in pitch. In the second movement, I
noticed that the melodies often repeated. Throughout the rest of the song the tempo changed from fast to slow and the flute
would usually take the lead. On the last movement, the cello and the harpsichord

The United States Constitution Vs. American Civil...
The United States Constitution gives the American people their freedom so to speak. The Constitution outlines many things
that other countries don t offer their citizens such as freedom of speech, religion and the press. The First Amendment of the
Constitutions guarantees that the United States people have rights to freedom of expression and freedom of religion without
the interference of the government. The Bible states in Deuteronomy 17: 18 19, Now it shall come about when he sit on the
throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. It
shall be with him, and he shall read it, all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, by carefully
observing all the words of this law and these statutes . These laws have been called into question on several different
occasions. However, like anything else, there are some stipulations with these laws. Reno v. American Civil Liberties Union
(ACLU) did shed some insight on the laws and how they can be interpreted. This paper will discuss the criminal statute
issues, issues with the provisions of the Constitution, and the status of criminal prosecution for transmission of pornography
over the internet. With the hopes of having a clearer understanding of Reno v. American Civil Liberties Union. The First
Amendment was a key component in Reno v. ACLU. It states that Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of
speech. The Courts

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Glass Ionomer Cement
Glass ionomer cement[GIC], invented by Wilson and Kent, has been used as a dental restorative material for more than four
decades and its properties are constantly improved to overcome its shortcomings. The unique properties of GIC include
direct adhesion to tooth and base metals [1], anticariogenic properties [2], thermal compatibility with tooth enamel and
dentin, minimized microleakage at the tooth enamel interface, biological compatibility, and minimal cytotoxicity. The
disadvantages of GIC such as Brittleness, low tensile and flexural strengths has limited its use to low stress bearing sites
such as Class III and Class V cavities [3]. Various studies have been done to improve the properties of GIC by incorporation
of materials such as bioglass, CPP ACP etc. In our study we have incorporated chitosan to enhance the properties of GIC.
Chitosan is a natural linear bio polyaminosaccharide. It is a hydrolyzed (deacetylated) derivative of chitin which is the

Though there are different classes of fluoride releasing materials, their properties need to be improved significantly before
considering them as universal restorative materials. Although a single material would be desirable, compromises may be
necessary when selecting materials.
CONCLUSION
Within the limitations of the present study, it can be concluded that stronger, more durable material (10v/v% Chitosan
modified glass ionomer cement) could be selected for posterior occlusal restorations, while higher fluoride releasing
material (50v/v% Chitosan modified glass ionomer cement) could be selected for individuals with high caries risk and in
areas subjected to less stress.
It is hoped that the laboratory measurements of flexural and Micro Shear bond strength may aid the interpretation of future
studies of the clinical performance of Chitosan modified

  • 2. The Perception Of Human Communication Prejudice, Stereotype, and how they affect listening Often humans form opinions about one another that may hinder them from listening to a particular group or person effectively. Two ways listening can be impaired is by stereotypes and prejudices formed before a certain person even expresses themselves nonverbally or verbally. According to the book Fundamentals of Human Communication the word stereotype is defined as: Rigid and usually negative assumptions about personal and social qualities of people who are members of a particular social category. (G 10) Another scholarly source confirms this definition by stating that a stereotype is a fixed or over generalized belief about a particular group or class of people. (Cardwell, 1996) Over the years people describe types of communication as stereotypical because it allows a communicator to judge the outcome of a conversation before it even occurs. Stereotypes can sometimes be viewed as advantageous in certain situations because it allows a communicator to judge an outcome of a situation based on past situations. For example, if a mother has talked to a doctor previously about how to treat a cold and his advice worked well, chances are she will stereotype what will take place the next time she has a cold and consults a doctor before it even happened. On the other hand, in this case stereotyping can be bad when you assume what the other communicator is going to say or do, prejudging the outcome, and you are wrong. ... The article main idea was to showed the prehistoric uses of the Dunbar Cave in Montgomery County, Tennessee. I liked the article because the authors gave a good enough background information so that the reader can understand it. They also define some of the vocabulary that was used so that the reader completely understand what they were talking about. The article also included tables and detail information on what the table is talking about. For example, one of the table is about the Radiocarbon age determination from the Dunbar cave. At first glance the information is very confusing, but after a while I can see what the authors was referring to and where they got their information from. One of the problem that the article had was when they were interpreting one of the pictograph. After reading the descriptions I went back and look at the image, I could not see what they authors were referring to. I realized that most of the pictures needed interpretation, but sometimes I feel like the interpretations of the pictographs is a little of to how the authors wants the readers to see it. Then again, in one of the pictures the authors were able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay On Greek Immigration For this assignment, I decided to focus my research on Greek immigrants. As I was reading page 797, I noticed the author mentioned, Greek restaurant owners provided a selection of American and Greek cuisines. It was also mentioned, Greek immigration most profoundly impacted mainstream foodservice (pg.797). I found these facts to be of great importance when discussing food choices, therefore I wanted to do more research on Greek Immigrants. I learned, after migrating to the United States, many Greek families claimed Michigan as their new home. More specifically, Greektown, located in Detroit, Michigan. I also discovered Germans were actually the first to settle in Greektown, then once they moved out, Greeks families began settling in this area. During the late 1800 s through the early 1900 s, a large population of immigrants from Greece emigrated to the United States. Sherwood Anderson s Society As An Outsiders In Sherwood Anderson s Hands, and William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, both authors introduced main characters who are alienated in their respective societies. In Anderson s work, Wing Biddlebaum is an outsider because he wants to escape from his society since he has been accused of being a child molester. Similarly, in Faulkner s work, Emily hides from society since the prying eyes of the people who see her gaze and oppression. In this way, both characters are outsiders in their communities by the people s eyes on them. There are a variety of people in our society and divide into two main groups. There are people who associate easily with other people are more likely to interact with people. However, there are people who live in a quiet do not mix with other people. There are also various definitions of the outsider. Among them, Wing Biddlebaum who is the main character in Anderson s work is not an outsider from the beginning. • 9. Cultural Narratives Influence On Society In the short amount of time that humanity has inhabited this planet, we have managed to leave a bigger imprint than any other species. The human population is well over 7 billion individuals and the presence of humanity is extended to all four corners of the globe. As a result of the large population, intellectual superiority, and the wide range of human existence, humanity has naturally transformed into a diverse populace. Consequently, cultural narratives are prominent in our daily lives and play a role in shaping our social interactions, opinions, and lifestyles. The influence of cultural narratives have only expanded with the growth in technology. Technology provides a platform for individuals to be connected with regions on the opposite side of the globe within seconds. This advancement has led to the widespread dispersion of cultural traditions and tendencies. This is evident in the news, social media, and other media platforms. Different cultures have developed different beliefs about what norms are and abide by those beliefs. If someone falls out of the lines of normality, most people immediately formulate an ethnocentric mindset and begin to create opinions that that person s culture is inferior to their own. My family and I are especially aware of the degree of influence that cultural narratives have on society. The reason why cultural narratives have such a considerable influence in our daily lives is due to the fact that we originate from a Muslim background. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dreams In Sandra Cisneros s The House On Mango Street During the novel, The House on Mango Street, author Sandra Cisneros relives a childhood similar to hers, where the main purpose of life is having the ability to dream. Most characters that live on Mango Street, such as Esperanza Cordero, dream of having a better life and deserting their past of poverty and struggle. Cisneros constantly makes this apparent to the reader because without struggle and pain, the reward of escaping the neighborhood is not as meaningful. • 15. Values Of American Values We the people of the United States, value nothing of importance and take a great deal of what they have for granted. There are many things that Americans value and a few really are positive values, but definitely not all American values are important. All of these values have something in common though and that is they all are based off of how other people see each other. These values are money, possessions, physical features, religion, and how Americans idolize celebrities and view social status. Something that almost all Americans value the most is money. Money, everyone needs it and everyone wants more of it, no matter how much they already have. Americans do tend to be greedy and want all the money they can receive because without money you can t obtain something in this country. This is negative because it shows that Americans always want more. But there is a little bit of positive in this because it encourages people to get out and work so they can make more money. America s Fear Of Crime America s fear of crime has developed an incarceration binge that has resulted in a disparity in America s prisons, largely, affecting the underclass; dishonored groups caught in a symbiosis of the ghetto and prison, meaning, that ghettos have become more like prisons, and so undermined the inmate society, as such, turned prisons, more like ghettos; hence, developed a state wherein the criminal justice system is the instrument to control the poor (Wacquant, 2010). Thus, maintains the underclass caste, more succinctly, an American apartheid. Accordingly, general consensus portrays inner cities (i.e. generally poor black neighborhoods), as the apparatus of crime. In this view, crime emanates from the poor, and so generates an environment credible fear that intensifies racism and frantic search for solutions in the form of draconian laws (e.g., zero tolerance, War on Drugs policies) that target the underclass and serve to advance formal social control via prisons. Kurt Vonnegut Research Paper Kurt Vonnegut s works were affected by his dark viewpoint on human existence, that death is inevitable and his lack of trust, but are most well known for his use of black humor to express it. Kurt Vonnegut s most famous books included Slaughterhouse Five, Cat s Cradle, and Breakfast of Champions, but he wrote many others. According to Kurt Vonnegut Jr. , Vonnegut s writing style was considered postmodernism. Postmodernism is the use of choppy, vernacular sentences that go against traditional rules of plot, theme, time, and character development. He demonstrated social myths and viewed the world differently with new ideas and thoughts (5). Cat s Cradle said, [Kurt Vonnegut used] black humor the use of satire and irony to transform serious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kurt Vonnegut is known for his use of black humor and his humorous way of looking at something sad or serious often in his books. Criticism for his most popular book, Slaughterhouse Five, included questions of Vonnegut s Moral Indifference and as Michael Crichton said, [Vonnegut] refuses to say who is wrong... ascribes no blame, sets no penalties ( qtd in Telegan and Hile 269). Similarly, Lev Grossman spoke of Vonnegut saying that his opinion of human nature was low, and that the author was endlessly disappointed in humanity (qtd in Cat s Cradle 70). People even suggested that his frequent repetition of distinctive phrases, use of colloquialisms, and his digressive manner became overused and uninspired over time ( Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. 6). Although he was criticized by some as pessimistic, others observe that aspects of his work counter his gloomy worldview. Vonnegut s humor was loved by his readers, and helped him stand out from other generic works of his time. As Telegan and Hile quote Robert Scholes, [Vonnegut s humor] does not disguise the awful things perceived; it merely strengthens and comforts us to the point where such perception is bearable . Robert Scholes also considered his novel, Slaughterhouse Five, to be an extraordinary success... a book we need to read, and to reread... funny, compassionate, and wise (264). Vonnegut s writing style set him apart from other authors, and also kept more negative criticism off hi back. He received lots of praise from many people for his outstanding, different, and interesting works. Terry Southern wrote in 1963, following the publication of Vonnegut s book Cat s Cradle, to be far more engaging and meaningful other than the melodramatic tripe which most critics seem to consider serious ( Cat s Cradle 69). First, Socrates encounters Euthyphro outside the court of Athens, where he was called upon to be charged with impiety by Meletus, which is the lack of being religious towards god. On the other end, Euthyphro was present at court that day to prosecute his own father for accidentally murdering an innocent slave worker, by throwing him in a ditch. Socrates believes Euthyphro must know what is right from wrong, if he is responsible for the prosecution of his own father. Since, Socrates felt sure that the people of Athenian in general did not understand the true nature of piety or impiety. Euthyphro claims to know all that needs to be known about what is holy. • 24. Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies William Golding uses many objects and characters in his story, Lord of the Flies , to develop and symbolize certain aspects of his story. Lord of the Flies is a story that contrasts good with evil. The story shows how a society without any set up regulations, develop and grow into a civilization. The novel shows this by placing a group of young boys on an island with no parents. These pre adolescents give us an inside look at our inner desires and inclinations. Throughout this story, William uses many distinct symbols to move his story along and show some of the hidden messages. The author not only places symbols throughout the book, but he makes the symbols dynamic. Throughout the Novel the symbols are constantly changing. This brings a new perspective to the story. Through the changing symbols we can gain a vast understanding of the plot and the sequence of the events in the story. With the help of dynamic symbols such as the conch, fire, and the island, we can interrupt the islands society in a new light. Power was a main theme in The Lord of the Flies . It was mainly represented by the conch that Ralph was always in possession of. In the beginning of the Novel, it was a representation of power. On the island, if you wanted to speak, you had to be holding the conch. Meetings were also called by the conch. Essay on Magic in The Descent of Innana and Sappho Magic in The Descent of Innana and Sappho In the ancient text The Descent of Innana and the lyric poetry of Sappho, language is viewed as magic. Not only are the words themselves acting as magic, as in an invocation, but other things manifest themselves as magic throughout the works. The most common throughout the works of Sappho is that of love. Sappho also shows us the magic of everyday life in many of her poems. Finally, the writing down of the works performs a magic all of its own; the magic of continuation. This shows how words were believed to hold the power to persuade a god or goddess. The hope was that, if the offering of poetry was beautiful enough, then the god would grant the request of the poet. This is not the only form of magic that words held for the ancient Greeks. In another poem that Sappho wrote, A Prayer to Aphrodite , Sappho describes anguished love. Sappho desires nothing more then to have this unrequited love returned to her arms. In this poem the magic of language calls Aphrodite forth and inspires her to do Sappho a favor. It inspires the goddess to give Sappho the power to bring this person back to the glittering net of her arms (19). The songs were mostly enjoyable and we re all well played. This concert included an ensemble: the flute, the cello, the piano, and the harpsichord. Peggy Bair, who played the flute, was very enthusiastic. Irma Cripe, who played the cello, was quiet for the first part of the concert but gradually became more important throughout the concert. And lastly, the virtuous Gary Kirkeby, who played the piano and harpsichord, served as the backbone of all parts of the concert and made this concert very enjoyable. When the concert first began, the three instrumentalists walked with energy despite their age. The first song, Sonata I in G Major Op. 2, Nr. 1 by Michel Blavet, was a Baroque Sonata. There were five movements and was played by the harpsichord, flute, and cello. All movements of the song were polyphonic because of the three instruments that had different parts and equal importance. In the first movement, I noticed that the flute tended to rise in pitch.
