Sick Religion In Siddhartha By Herman Hesse And The Nature...

Healthy Religion vs. Sick Religion

Herman Hesse and the Nature of Human Transformation
In Siddhartha the author Hermann Hesse juxtaposes two very different quests for enlightenment and
analyzes what it means to be wise. The path one must take to become enlightened is examined and the
self transformation that must be undergone is also looked at. Siddartha and Govinda are two extremely
different individuals who both seek the same thing. Hesse points out the strengths and flaws of both
characters, and examines what it means to be a leader as well as a follower. Hesse s two main
assertions regarding self transformation are that first it is an illusion, and secondly it cannot be taught;
these are two thoughts that I agree with. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We cannot be taught to find our self and must learn who we are through our own experiences. I will
learn from myself, be my own pupil; I will learn from myself the secret of Siddhartha (39). In the end
only only we know ourselves well enough to discover who we truly are. The thing Siddhartha has
been searching for throughout the novel has been there all along. It is just up to him to unravel it and
discover it within himself. Wisdom is a preparation of the soul, a capacity, a secret art of thinking,
feeling and breathing thoughts of unity at every moment of life (131). Hesse believes that humans don

Out Of Body Art Analysis
The very first work of art that caught my eye was the 2015 Out of Body piece by a woman by the
name of Shinique Smith. Made with acrylic, ribbon, plastic bags, fabric and paper collage on a
wooden panel, the art was truly cool to look at. This particular art work was purchased from an
unknown source and placed in the Weatherspoon Museum in 2016. It portrays the edge that we have
in 2016 and fit very well in the Decade by Decade section of the museum. The idea of change and
difference being okay, is challenged in this work by incorporating many different things into one
board. The artist, Shinique Smith, was trying to portray the idea of childhood to adulthood, adapting to
change. Basically trying to fit in both the importance of being

Merce Cunningham s Influence On Contemporary Dance
In my opinion, Merce Cunningham is the most influential person in the history of contemporary
dance. Cunningham was both a dancer and in the early 1940s began to choreograph. A former dancer
of the Martha Graham Dance Company, Cunningham went on to found the Merce Cunningham Dance
Company, where many of the dancers went on to become prestigious choreographers as well. In his
works, the choreography, music and design all work separately yet together. Through his belief that
anything can follow anything (Au 155), use of space and music, exploration of chance, is what makes
Merce Cunningham the most influential person in the history of dance.
As written in Ballet and Modern Dance, The choreographer played the role of the painter, selecting
what the viewer saw and directing his focus to different performers or areas of the stage (155). This
statement describes Merce Cunningham s approach to choreography and space perfectly. In
Cunningham s works, there is no front and center spot. The front and center spot takes place all over
the stage and the performance can be viewed from any angle. Also, Independence was central in
Cunningham s works. For example, the video shown in class of the dancers in the warehouse, shows
the dancers at every angle and even when the camera focuses on one ... Show more content on

One of the chance methods he used, was to ...toss coins or roll dice to determine crucial aspects of a

would not hear the music they would be dancing to until it came time to perform. He absorbed the
aspects of everyday, or pedestrian, movements into his works. Cunningham rewrote the traditional
relationship between dance and music: dancers did not dance to the music. Essentially, the dancers

Casey Holwagner Biography
Tick, tock, tick, tock. The cogs in the clock spin and whir in harmony with an express purpose of
moving the hands around the face, each part of the machine fulfilling its task. Like the clock, factories
and companies require each link in the chain to work together in order to reach their full potential. The
task of coordinating, arranging, fitting all these pieces together in order to reach maximum efficiency
is executed by Industrial Engineers, a group that a number of students attending North Dakota State
University, NDSU, plan on joining, a group that Casey Holwagner hopes to become a part of in four
years. Casey Holwagner was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 10, 1998, however he did not
stay long. In 1999, Casey moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where he stayed until sixth grade. Casey
finished his secondary schooling in Horace, North Dakota. It was also in Horace that Casey pursued a
stint in both basketball and golf. He played golf from seventh to eighth grade, and was on the West
Fargo Basketball team from grades seven to nine. While his time with basketball and golf might have

Technology Changed Technology
Technology has changed greatly in the last 100 years. To help me understand how technology has
changed, I interviewed my grandmother about the changes in her lifetime. Throughout her life, she has
witnessed many technological changes around the world. One change that has occurred in her lifetime
is the color TV. When she was born, color TVs existed, however, none of the channels broadcasted in
color. It was until she was in her 20s when stations began to transition into color television. She also
told me that when she was younger, they would find out the news through newspapers a day or two
after the event occurred. However, today we can hit a button on our phones and we ll receive
notifications moments after an event has occurred. Lastly, she told me about the first cell phones. She
said that the first cell phones were called Brick Phones because they were the size of brick. However,
cell phones today are much smaller, and can fit into your pocket. After talking to her about some
changes in her life, I asked her how she felt about changes in technology. She said, I m all for progress
in technology. However, sometimes it can be very scary because it feels like it s of of your control. For
example with computers, they can have security safeguards, but hackers keep getting smarter and can
access our computer easily. I do though like the progress with regards to safer cars, better appliances,
and especially better medical technology for our health care. Based

Passion For Research Paper
Passion can be a strong word, but it s a strong emotion. Passion is what drives people, keeps them
motivated. Determination and passion go hand in hand. I have a lot of passion for guard. When I first
joined, I was so bad that I just wanted to quit. I thought I was horrible. I kept trying and trying but it
still hadn t clicked for me yet. I had bruises up and down my arms, cuts on my wrists, and I struggled
to catch everything. Other people told me I was okay, but I wanted to be good. I was determined to be
great, and now I m going to strive for awesome. That passion and determination for this activity grew

Commitment is the one thing that some people struggle with from time to time. We all have our
moments where we want to give up but we can t in to that emotion. I ve seen people quit just because
they didn t like their drill, or because they didn t want to put in the time to do the work. Quitting isn t
always the answer. Being physically unable to do it is a different story. Last winter was so stressful for
me, simply because I started the season late and I had to learn both drill and work. It was my second
season in so I wasn t new but I was still young. Sometimes I lack in self confidence when it comes to
guard, so I was honestly terrified. There were moments where I was super stressed out, but I didn t
want to let my team down so I pushed through. But having that opportunity that could ve easily been
given to someone else was so special to me. I thank you Mr. Brian Jones for giving me the opportunity
to be a part of an amazing team. I was able to earn that medal because of you. I wouldn t have been
able to do that without your help. Same for this winter. I am so terribly sorry that I could not finish this
season. But I just didn t know when I would be any better, plus there are a lot of other health and
personal reasons that contributed to me not continuing this season. But I will forever be grateful that
you gave me the opportunities that you did. Everyone calls you dad, and I know it s a joking matter,
but you are an amazing man Mr. Jones. You are the best band director ever!! And I will work on my
commitment, but I didn t continue just because I didn t want to do it anymore. I love guard with all of
my heart. Sometimes I want to cry when I watch the videos, because I wish I was up there with them
performing. I miss it so much, and hopefully I will be better by this

Child abuse is broadly defined in many cases as cruelty inflicted upon a child. There are many forms
of abuse that leads to a pattern of behavior that impairs a child s emotional development or sense of

years. However, physical abuse is the most visible form of child maltreatment. Many times it results

Got Milk Advertising
This paper explores the effectiveness of a Got Milk advertisement featuring actress Hayden Panettiere.
First, this analysis will examine the producer of the advertisement, Goodby Silverstein Partners for the
California Milk Processor Board, noting its mission to promote the benefits of drinking fat free or low
fat milk. From there, it moves into a discussion of the Got Milk campaign and how Hayden Panettiere
can promote their healthy lifestyle. This paper will also analyze the creation of Seventeen magazine,
as well as explore the audience it reaches to make the message effective. Overall, by analyzing the
advertisement and the message it promotes, women and teenagers will most likely accommodate the
message and reconsider milk as a viable drinking option.
What Does Hayden Panettiere Have To Do With Got Milk? On Thursday morning, I was sitting down

Analysis Of Homer s The King Of The Great Land
A murderer. A liar. A philander. A Narcissist. Is this the kind of man children should model after as
their hero? The Ancient Greek poem The Odyssey by Greek poet Homer, tells the story of great
Odysseus, the king of Ithaca who was sent off to fight in war for ten years, and his long journey home.
After the war, Odysseus showed that he was not the leader and king that his crew had thought. For
instance, Odysseus showed many more remarkable character flaws, such as continual disrespect to the
Gods and men, his very self centered way of life, and his many crimes committed during the entirety
of the story. This protagonist of our epic story and the king of the great land of Ithaca, is by no means
a hero in the modern definition of the word. To elaborate, Homer describes the life of Telemachus
before he focuses in on Odysseus. Before introducing Odysseus, Homer shows the life of a prince who
was brought up to be a leader and to rule a kingdom. In fact, the story starts out with young
Telemachus restraining himself from doing the very things in which his father finds no shame.
Daydreaming so as he sat among the suitors, he glimpsed Athena now and straight to the porch he
went, mortified that a guest might still be standing at the doors (Homer 1.138). To clarify, Telemachus
represents the positive and virtuous family he was brought up under by demonstrating his respect for
the Ancient Greek laws of hospitality. In addition, Telemachus does not openly disrespect the suitors

Royal Caribbean Cruise-Personal Narrative
Vacation is something many people love and look forward to. The ability to put our daily tasks on hold

people need from time to time. In fact, we all seem to have those times in our life were we get a week

primary ways. This experience was when I took a Royal Caribbean Cruise in the Gulf of Mexico.

ways. Truthfully, what I took away from my Royal Caribbean Cruise would be considered by many to

don t recommend using spanking as a disciplinary measure, as it causes anger, antagonism, amps up

also known to cause antisocial behavior. It is especially ineffective with toddlers and babies because
they are unable to make the connection between their bad behavior and physical punishment.

Edward Macdowell s Of A Wild Rose From Woodland Sketches
Edward MacDowell s To a Wild Rose from Woodland Sketches (1896) American born, but European
trained, Edward MacDowell is known as one of America s prominent composers during the Gilded
Age. With the rise of musical nationalism in America, MacDowell composed Woodland Sketches in
1896, which comprised of ten piano pieces whose titles refer to the American landscape and his
personal experiences. The most well known piece of the ten is To a Wild Rose. To a Wild Rose
highlights MacDowell s skills as a composer to harvest deep emotions and impressions from the
listener from a simple motive; however, it was also an attempt for MacDowell to claim an identity as
an American composer. In April 1876, MacDowell s mother took him to Paris to attend the
Conservatoire, where he studied piano with Antoine F. Marmontel (Pesce). Dissatisfied, MacDowell
went on to Germany in 1878, which helped further his career (Pesce). The beginning of MacDowell s
success as a composer came with the publication of his Erste Modern Suite by German firms (Pesce).
Edward MacDowell then married Marian Nevins, a fellow American, and settled in Germany from
1885 to 1888 where he would devote himself exclusively to composition (Pesce). Due to financial
difficulties, MacDowell would decide to return to America in the autumn of 1888. Upon returning
from Europe, MacDowell would perform a series concerts that led to the rise of his popularity as a
musician. It was typical for American composers to return to

The Hallmarks Of A Stem Cell
The hallmarks of a stem cell are its ability to self renew as well as its ability to differentiate and
assume almost any cell fate if given the appropriate cues known as pluripotency (ref). The
differentiation of stem cells requires large and rapid changes in gene expression. miRNAs are well
suited to carry out this task through their ability to simultaneously inhibit the translation of several
target genes allowing for coordinated control of cellular processes{Bartel:2009fh}. Furthermore,
miRNAs have been shown to regulate embryonic development in addition to their role in regulating
stem cell fate{Stefani:2008bw}. Evidence for this comes from experimental studies where the overall
function of the miRNA biogenesis pathway was evaluated through genetic deletion of the miRNA
processing enzymes DICER, DGCR8, Drosha, and AGO2. DICER knockout mice die at early stages
of embryogenesis and fail to express the stem cell marker Oct4 and primitive streak marker T
(brachyury), which respectively indicate a loss of stem cells and arrested development during
gastrulation{Bernstein:2003dp}. Furthermore, DICER deficient mouse ES cells are viable but
incapable of differentiation, showing severe proliferation defects{Kanellopoulou:2005kf,
Murchison:2005fa}. Similarly, DGCR8 knockout mice arrest early in development{Wang:2007gb}.
DGCR8 deficient mouse ES cells also exhibit a proliferation defect and cannot efficiently silence the
ES cell program, although these defects are not as

Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes Essay
Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes In 1651, Thomas Hobbes published Leviathan, his famous work that
detailed his physicalist outlook and his concept of the value of a social contract for a peaceful society
and the nature of man. His major belief was that man is a beast that defines his identity through the
need to be controlled under some kind of external, oppressive power. This essay will explain Hobbes
views of man s identity in the society and will demonstrate how it was mirrored in the political
structure. In Hobbes work, he explained that if individuals within a society continually lived by their
own self interests, they would continue to hurt each other and be stuck in a state of war, or chaos. If
the members of society were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this state of war, says Hobbes, the continual fear of our neighbors would reduce our lives to:
solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. It would be solitary because we have no reason to trust anyone
else; poor because we have no possible benefit of commerce in such war; nasty because we are
continually threatened and fearful of one another; brutish because we only have time to act on our
passions like our fellow animals; and short because war of all against all results in many untimely and
violent deaths. 1 This incredibly pessimistic account of the nature of human life, Hobbes says, is born
in part by the actions of all of us, when, without any thinking, we arm ourselves and lock our doors.
Does not there as much accuse of mankind by his actions as I do with my words? But neither of us
accuse man s nature in it. The desires and the other passions of man, are in themselves no sin. No
more are the actions, that proceed from those passions, till they know a law that forbids them: which
till laws be made they cannot know: nor can a law be made, till they have agreed upon the person to
make it. 2 Accordingly, by arming ourselves and locking our doors, Hobbes political
recommendations reflect the way we live. In today s society it seems that no one believes in anything
but money, which is leaving us morally bankrupt. People do what meets their own self interests. This
moral disintegration pulses through

The second objective was to develop the weight scoring model for both types of cars to analyze them
on the grounds of safety, comfort, emissions, and incentives. Life cycle model for both the cars were
developed using the cost components like depreciation, fees and taxes, finance, fuel, insurance,
maintenance , and repairs. All the data for these cost components for both types of engines were
collected from the company websites and the EPA website. After the collection of these data, the life
cycle cost model has been used for calculating the total life cycle cost for hybrid as well as petrol
engines. The results were analyzed for both the alternatives and the conclusions were made. Weight
scoring model was also developed for the comparative analysis which included the components like
safety, comfort, emissions, and the incentives. The relative weights for these components were
assigned according to the priorities from the consumer point of view. The rating points were also
assigned and both the cars were rated according to the aforesaid components. The sources for the data
were the company websites and the EPA websites for the emission data was also cited. The results of
the Weight scoring model were then analyzed and the final conclusions were made. The comparative
study for both the cars revealed that

Consequences Of European Imperialism
The Consequences of European Imperialism
Imperialism was in its prime from the 1800s all the way up to 1920. France, Netherlands and Great
Britain were some of the first that had participated in the colonization of Africa and parts of Asia. The
goal in mind was to dominate with nationalism and social darwinism as their main ideologies. The
biggest results of imperialism was the enormous growth in the European economy, industrialization of
the European and African continent and a growth in nationalism of those who were colonized.
One of the most noticeable effects of imperialism in the 19th and early 20th century was the huge
growth in Europe s economy. Resources like cotton, rubber, ivory copper and diamonds are all

Common American Western Film
There was once a film genre that dominated the silver screens for over 30 years. That genre is the
western, a genre that saw its golden age from the 1930 s to the 1960 s with classics like Sergio Leone
s Dollars trilogy (1964 1966), Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), and John Ford s The Searchers
(1956), though with such films like James Mangold s 3:10 to Yuma (2007) and David Mackenzie s
Hell or High, westerns in the modern stay still have an audience. Films in this genre usually take place
during the last part of the 19th century not too long after the Civil War, but there are exceptions to this
as some films have taken place during the Civil War itself, the Battle of the Alamo (1836) or the
Mexican Revolution (1910) (Filmsites.org). Common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Usually, the central plot of the western film is the classic, simple goal of maintaining law and order on
the frontier in a fast paced action story. It is normally rooted in archetypal conflict good vs. bad, virtue
vs. evil, white hat vs. black hat, man vs. man, new arrivals vs. Native Americans (in those days were
depicted as savages), settlers vs. Indians, lawman or sheriff vs. gunslinger, the rugged individualist vs.
the community, the cultivated East vs. West to name a few. Often the hero of a western meets his
opposite double, a mirror of his own evil side that he must destroy. Typical elements in westerns
include hostile elements (often Native Americans), guns and gun fights (sometimes on horseback),
violence and human massacres, horses, trains (and train robberies), bank robberies and holdups,
runaway stagecoaches, shoot outs and showdowns, outlaws and sheriffs, cattle drives and cattle
rustling, stampedes, posses in pursuit, barroom brawls, search and destroy plots, breathtaking settings

What s Eating Gilbert Grape
What s Eating Gilbert Grape is a 1993 American drama film written by Peter Hedges and directed by
Lasse Hallstrom. The film s main characters are Johnny Depp as Gilbert Grape and Leonardo
DiCaprio as Arnie Grape. The film depicts the burden of family caretaking and the affect it has on a
family both mentally, physically, and financially. Gilbert is the primary caregiver for his mentally and
developmentally disabled seventeen year old brother Arnie (who has the mental capacity of a young
child), his morbidly obese mother Bonnie, known as Mama, and his two sisters Amy and Ellen. Amy,
the oldest daughter, shares most of the household chores with Gilbert and helps with Arnie s care. She
plays the mother figure role for Arnie even though Arnie s mother is alive. Ellen, the youngest
daughter, is very negative in her feelings toward her family. She doesn t help much with the family
because she is busy being a teenage girl.
The movie takes place in the fictional small Midwestern town of Endora, Iowa. Gilbert says in the
film s opening voiceover, Describing Endora is like dancing to no music...nothing much happens here,
and never will, In one of the scenes, we understand that the father could not handle the pressures of
life so he committed suicide 15 years earlier by hanging himself in the basement. Gilbert is concerned
about the condition of the farmhouse so he calls his friend Tucker so they can check the stability of the
floor by going into the basement. They bring in some

African Dust and Microbial Pathogens Essay example
The atmosphere is a relatively unexplored and unthought of environment for a microbial habitat.
Approximately 0.5 to 5.0 billion tons of dust travels in the atmosphere each year throughout the globe
or within a particular region (Perkins, 2001). Dust is transported from Africa, other countries with
large deserts and contains diverse microbial communities (bacteria and fungi) often containing
pathogens. Data presented within the current and past century has shown that microbes are capable of
withstanding environments exposing them to desiccation, UV, and other physical stresses, making
them a good candidate for airborne global travel. Knowledge of these various microbes is increasing
due to concerns over human health and oceanic diseases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most dust circulates to the Caribbean, North and Central America during June through October
(Graham, 1979). Climate change has greatly affected dust transport partially because of decreased
rainfall. Anthropogenic influence creates aerosols in the atmosphere and are derived from three
primary sources: biomass burning, desert dust and pollution due to anthropogenic effects. Increasing
agricultural land use (over grazing and over farming) are just a few of the contributing problems. The
dust created by increasing desertification provides issues for human and marine health. Generally, ill
health is correlated to higher dust storm rates, bacteria and fungi can be carried across seas for
international infection, and dust storms can damage Florida flora by blocking sunlight preventing
photosynthesis. Currently, there is still much information to be studied on African dust and how it
affects various organisms. It is widely accepted that studies of African dust confirm human impact on
the environment must decrease and we must find more efficient ways of agricultural development
otherwise problems will continue to arise in many forms.
Coral reef decline has thought to be linked with the rise of African dust, due to the demise of reef
health since 1970. Since 1974, 29 major marine outbreaks have been recorded and of the 29, 20 of
them were located in the Atlantic basin and nearby areas (Sherman et al., 1992). 8 of the 29

Upper Class Victorian Homes Essay
Upper Class Victorian Homes
The Victorian era was a time of ornate decorum, and grandiose homes for the upper classes. Wealth
was not to be concealed, but displayed in all aspects possible, most importantly in the home. The
structure of an upper class home often had at least a few levels. The top and bottom floors, or
basement and attic, generally reserved for the servants of the household. Food preparation, and
laundry activities were common of the basements, whereas the attic often served as housing for those
that tended the household. Beyond these reserved spaces however, the splendor of wealth could be
found in every room, on every wall, of every floor.

There was also an abundance of color and wallpaper. During the first half of the Victorian era, walls
were usually light colors... the second half of the period gave way to much more vibrant rich colors, as
a theory developed that dark, rich colors enhanced the importance of a room ( Interior Design ). Floral
print was a popular choice for wallpaper. Many rugs had floral designs as well, but Aubusson and
Savonnaire types were also popular. The tapestries were typically made of heavy fabrics, and
coincided with the dark colors of the other furnishings. Of all the rooms in the house, the office was
the least decorated, being the masculine place of business, but even then, the upper class could be
counted on to have the finest desks and bookcases.
The bedrooms were decorated much in the same fashion as the rest of the house, with subtle changes
depending on the sex of the occupant. Boys had more utilitarian rooms, with less frivolous items,
whereas girls rooms were often adorned with lots of hand carved and painted furniture. (As crafts
were seen as a woman s preoccupation.) The four post canopy bed was popular for both sexes. The
drawing room was considered a feminine aspect as well, and would contain draperies and carved
furniture similar to what was seen in a female bedroom. Many homes would have a porch or veranda,
with furniture to enable the occupants to take their

The Definition Of Global Imperialism
Imperialism: a policy of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military
force. There is more to imperialism than what is in the definition. Imperialism isn t just power and
influence or military force, its culture and that countries way of living to. It s in our history. Just look
at what the pilgrims did to the Indians. They used somewhat military force on them and enslaved
them. The they forced their culture and religious beliefs on them like Christianity and how they dress.
Imperialism was a disorganized phenomenon involving incredible violence, plunder, resistance, and
heated debate. It involved state power and private enterprise but also led to changes in culture. (Smith,
Bonnie G. Imperialism: a History in Documents. Oxford University Press, 2000.) Global Imperialism
first started in the 15th century. In the late 15th century European states Portugal, Spain, France, the
Netherlands, and England started a new phase of imperial development when they began sending their
people to many parts of the world.... (Smith, Bonnie G. Imperialism: a History in Documents. Oxford
University Press, 2000.) Religious authorities undertook to Christianize the indigenous, or local,
people, further adding to the colonizing impulse. Imperialist fought to imperialize countries or certain
parts of the world. Even people of the same race fought against each other. People where fighting
against other people to enslave and imperialize other countries or other parts

Emperor did not know was that these weavers were impostors who in the end made him look very
idiotic with his extraordinary dress of absolutely nothing! However, he did not choose to see that what

One might even notice that this whole clothing epidemic is going on right in front of their own eyes.
Girls these days especially are prone to being sucked in by the way they dress. They believe that how
they dress affects their popularity status. I myself have gone through this being a young girl at one
point! I wonder where they could have gotten this idea from? Oh, that is right, this idea has been going
on since the ancient times! In conclusion, the way people dress is indeed important. It has been
important from the beginning of the ancient times until today. As much as we would like to believe
that Hans Christian Andersen s interpretation of dress is not what is important, there is absolutely no
way that this is possible for us. We are shallow as a whole. Much like the Emperor was in The

Sign Miracle Paper

Introduction: In the Gospel of John there are eight miracle signs that are recorded that are performed
by Jesus in this Gospel. In the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) the Prince of Life doesn t
show or give any miraculous signs to prove his authority. In the Abramic religions, these eight signs
are actual events from the beginning of His ministry with the turning of water into wine to the final
miracle of a miraculous catch of fish after the death and resurrection of Christ. Jesus performed many
other signs in the presence of His disciples which are not recorded in the book But these are written so

The aim of this sign was simple belief and the first real sign of salvation. If you just believe in Christ
you will be saved, the man didn t question Jesus, he believed that the Lord could and would heal his
son and because of that belief and faith it was so. This miracle reveals Christ power over space
because He did not travel to Capernaum but just spoke the words and he was healed.
Healing of a Lame Man: There was a man who had been lame for thirty eight years and lay by the
pool every day waiting on someone to carry him to the pool of Bethesda. The pool of Bethesda was an
annual tradition or even myth that whoever got to the pool first, after the water in wrestled by an
Angle of the Lord they would be completely healed. The name Bethesda means house of mercy , and
its waters were thought that under certain circumstance to have certain powers. The pool of Bethesda
was a long rectangular used to clean animals about to be taken to the temple for sacrifice. The water
was two to three feet deep and according to tradition, was left filthy by animals. From the edge of the
pool down to the water was twenty to thirty foot long. The man was unable to get into the water by
himself, so he was there a very long time. Jesus asked the man if he would like to be healed, and told
him to get up, at once the man was healed, he picked up his mat and walked. Jesus performed this
miracle on the Sabbath and did things that the Pharisees could not do.

Prophet Vs Watchman
In order to fully understand the prophets and their message, it is important to recognize some
fundamental facts. The presentation provided a rudimentary definition of a prophet, which goes
beyond the normal meaning of foretelling the future. Dr. Yates metaphorically compared the prophet
to a watchman, which imparted great insight. The watchman was explicitly set in place to stand or
watch for any approaching enemies, and to warn of any impeding danger. The comparison and
explanation does not remove the foretelling or forthtelling role of the prophet, but augments it by
providing a factual interpretation of an inherited responsibility. As a watchman, it was the prophet s
assignment not only to confront the sins of that day, but to warn them of God s forthcoming judgment.
The message of judgment from God was proclaimed with hope that repentance would come in order
to avoid the severity of the God s calamity. The prophets used metaphoric expressions to show the
severity of man s sin or God s judgment.

The Issue Of Availability And Quality Of The Information...
4. Discuss the issue of availability and quality of the information that you base scenarios on.
In order for any scenario to be successful, the type of information used must be current, relevant and
reliable. If this is not the case then your scenario will not be effective at all, leading to a disastrous
event which might even proceed to an organisation losing a lot of money eventually closing down. So
carefully analysis of the type of information received and from which source is this information
received from must be considered.
When developing a scenario, a deep insightful research must be done in order to gather as much data
as possible; from this data serious analysis is done to scan the data and only taking that which is useful
(which now becomes useful information) in creating a scenario. The information needed here is
mostly about that relating to the future, so hence such information will be hard to find or come up
with. This is where the help of experts and external advisors comes to play, in order to verify the
information you have and also add into your information.
Companies usually have management information systems which they use to get the information need,
and in these management information systems there are feathers of scenarios built in, to make the
retrieval of information to be used in a scenario easier. Another way of getting the right type of
information for running scenarios would be through other applications such as spread sheets.

Hurricane Andrew was formed of the west coast of Africa on August 14. When it passed the

Atlantic. People had started to leave the area right before the Hurricane started. Schools and
businesses were shut down, it hit Dale County Florida at 5:00 a.m. August 24, and it was high tide
when the waves hit. There was weird lightning streaks of blue greenish colors, and thick streams of

would need to be the security of British civilians working in Sureno. The deaths of innocent civilians,

indignation that would be aimed at both the inability of the government to protect them as well as a
public sentiment for retributive justice against One Way, especially via the use of military action. As it

The British government should consider the attacks on British companies in Soreno as criminal acts of
violence. This should be followed by condemnation of any violence against any British entity and

situation in Soreno, it would be unwise to commit British lives to a foreign and uncertain conflict,
especially it aggravates Soreno s opposition and motivate further attacks on British targets. The
conflict should also be presented as a benign movement fighting in the interests of democracy and
social justice. The small number of British troops deployed in Soreno will only be for the guarantee of
peace in facilitation of the negotiation process and the protection of British citizens and companies.
This will be argued to the public as necessary in order to resolve the root of the issue, prevent further
attacks both by Liberty and Honor and One Way and prevent a spread of extremist ideology which
may inspire further inspired attacks to undermine British society. The political narrative should also

Grutter V. Bollinger Case Study
Grutter v. Bollinger, 539 U.S. 306 (2003)
FACTS: A Michigan resident was denied admission to the University of Michigan Law school, even
though she had a 3.8 GPA and a score of 161 on the LSAT. Barbara Grutter sued the school alleging
that they had discriminated against her based on her race, which would be in violation of her
constitutional rights. The University of Michigan Law School argued that there is a state interest to not
have a critical mass of students of a given race; so that minorities do not feel isolated.
ISSUE: Can a public university or institution for higher learner tailor their admission of applicants by
race to balance diversity within their student body?
REASONING: Justice O Conner wrote the majority ruling for the Court. In her writing, she held that
the Constitution does not forbid the narrowly tailored use of race admission process that the law

  • 2. Sick Religion In Siddhartha By Herman Hesse And The Nature... Patrick Cody Professor Lucas Healthy Religion vs. Sick Religion 1 September 2015 Herman Hesse and the Nature of Human Transformation In Siddhartha the author Hermann Hesse juxtaposes two very different quests for enlightenment and analyzes what it means to be wise. The path one must take to become enlightened is examined and the self transformation that must be undergone is also looked at. Siddartha and Govinda are two extremely different individuals who both seek the same thing. Hesse points out the strengths and flaws of both characters, and examines what it means to be a leader as well as a follower. Hesse s two main assertions regarding self transformation are that first it is an illusion, and secondly it cannot be taught; these are two thoughts that I agree with. ... I will learn from myself, be my own pupil; I will learn from myself the secret of Siddhartha (39). In the end only only we know ourselves well enough to discover who we truly are. The thing Siddhartha has been searching for throughout the novel has been there all along. It is just up to him to unravel it and discover it within himself. Wisdom is a preparation of the soul, a capacity, a secret art of thinking, feeling and breathing thoughts of unity at every moment of life (131). • 3. Out Of Body Art Analysis The very first work of art that caught my eye was the 2015 Out of Body piece by a woman by the name of Shinique Smith. Made with acrylic, ribbon, plastic bags, fabric and paper collage on a wooden panel, the art was truly cool to look at. This particular art work was purchased from an unknown source and placed in the Weatherspoon Museum in 2016. It portrays the edge that we have in 2016 and fit very well in the Decade by Decade section of the museum. The idea of change and difference being okay, is challenged in this work by incorporating many different things into one board. The artist, Shinique Smith, was trying to portray the idea of childhood to adulthood, adapting to change. Basically trying to fit in both the importance of being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Merce Cunningham s Influence On Contemporary Dance In my opinion, Merce Cunningham is the most influential person in the history of contemporary dance. Cunningham was both a dancer and in the early 1940s began to choreograph. A former dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company, Cunningham went on to found the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, where many of the dancers went on to become prestigious choreographers as well. In his works, the choreography, music and design all work separately yet together. Through his belief that anything can follow anything (Au 155), use of space and music, exploration of chance, is what makes Merce Cunningham the most influential person in the history of dance. As written in Ballet and Modern Dance, The choreographer played the role of the painter, selecting what the viewer saw and directing his focus to different performers or areas of the stage (155). This statement describes Merce Cunningham s approach to choreography and space perfectly. In Cunningham s works, there is no front and center spot. The front and center spot takes place all over the stage and the performance can be viewed from any angle. Also, Independence was central in Cunningham s works. To help me understand how technology has changed, I interviewed my grandmother about the changes in her lifetime. Throughout her life, she has witnessed many technological changes around the world. One change that has occurred in her lifetime is the color TV. When she was born, color TVs existed, however, none of the channels broadcasted in color. It was until she was in her 20s when stations began to transition into color television. She also told me that when she was younger, they would find out the news through newspapers a day or two after the event occurred. However, today we can hit a button on our phones and we ll receive notifications moments after an event has occurred. Lastly, she told me about the first cell phones. She said that the first cell phones were called Brick Phones because they were the size of brick. However, cell phones today are much smaller, and can fit into your pocket. After talking to her about some changes in her life, I asked her how she felt about changes in technology. She said, I m all for progress in technology. However, sometimes it can be very scary because it feels like it s of of your control. For example with computers, they can have security safeguards, but hackers keep getting smarter and can access our computer easily. Being physically unable to do it is a different story. Last winter was so stressful for me, simply because I started the season late and I had to learn both drill and work. It was my second season in so I wasn t new but I was still young. Sometimes I lack in self confidence when it comes to guard, so I was honestly terrified. There were moments where I was super stressed out, but I didn t want to let my team down so I pushed through. • 14. Analysis Of Homer s The King Of The Great Land A murderer. A liar. A philander. A Narcissist. Is this the kind of man children should model after as their hero? The Ancient Greek poem The Odyssey by Greek poet Homer, tells the story of great Odysseus, the king of Ithaca who was sent off to fight in war for ten years, and his long journey home. After the war, Odysseus showed that he was not the leader and king that his crew had thought. For instance, Odysseus showed many more remarkable character flaws, such as continual disrespect to the Gods and men, his very self centered way of life, and his many crimes committed during the entirety of the story. This protagonist of our epic story and the king of the great land of Ithaca, is by no means a hero in the modern definition of the word. To elaborate, Homer describes the life of Telemachus before he focuses in on Odysseus. Before introducing Odysseus, Homer shows the life of a prince who was brought up to be a leader and to rule a kingdom. In fact, the story starts out with young Telemachus restraining himself from doing the very things in which his father finds no shame. Daydreaming so as he sat among the suitors, he glimpsed Athena now and straight to the porch he went, mortified that a guest might still be standing at the doors (Homer 1.138). To clarify, Telemachus represents the positive and virtuous family he was brought up under by demonstrating his respect for the Ancient Greek laws of hospitality. In addition, Telemachus does not openly disrespect the suitors or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Edward Macdowell s Of A Wild Rose From Woodland Sketches Edward MacDowell s To a Wild Rose from Woodland Sketches (1896) American born, but European trained, Edward MacDowell is known as one of America s prominent composers during the Gilded Age. With the rise of musical nationalism in America, MacDowell composed Woodland Sketches in 1896, which comprised of ten piano pieces whose titles refer to the American landscape and his personal experiences. The most well known piece of the ten is To a Wild Rose. To a Wild Rose highlights MacDowell s skills as a composer to harvest deep emotions and impressions from the listener from a simple motive; however, it was also an attempt for MacDowell to claim an identity as an American composer. In April 1876, MacDowell s mother took him to Paris to attend the Conservatoire, where he studied piano with Antoine F. Marmontel (Pesce). Dissatisfied, MacDowell went on to Germany in 1878, which helped further his career (Pesce). The beginning of MacDowell s success as a composer came with the publication of his Erste Modern Suite by German firms (Pesce). Edward MacDowell then married Marian Nevins, a fellow American, and settled in Germany from 1885 to 1888 where he would devote himself exclusively to composition (Pesce). Due to financial difficulties, MacDowell would decide to return to America in the autumn of 1888. • 20. The Hallmarks Of A Stem Cell The hallmarks of a stem cell are its ability to self renew as well as its ability to differentiate and assume almost any cell fate if given the appropriate cues known as pluripotency (ref). The differentiation of stem cells requires large and rapid changes in gene expression. miRNAs are well suited to carry out this task through their ability to simultaneously inhibit the translation of several target genes allowing for coordinated control of cellular processes{Bartel:2009fh}. Furthermore, miRNAs have been shown to regulate embryonic development in addition to their role in regulating stem cell fate{Stefani:2008bw}. Evidence for this comes from experimental studies where the overall function of the miRNA biogenesis pathway was evaluated through genetic deletion of the miRNA processing enzymes DICER, DGCR8, Drosha, and AGO2. DICER knockout mice die at early stages of embryogenesis and fail to express the stem cell marker Oct4 and primitive streak marker T (brachyury), which respectively indicate a loss of stem cells and arrested development during gastrulation{Bernstein:2003dp}. Furthermore, DICER deficient mouse ES cells are viable but incapable of differentiation, showing severe proliferation defects{Kanellopoulou:2005kf, Murchison:2005fa}. Similarly, DGCR8 knockout mice arrest early in development{Wang:2007gb}. DGCR8 deficient mouse ES cells also exhibit a proliferation defect and cannot efficiently silence the ES cell program, although these defects are not as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His major belief was that man is a beast that defines his identity through the need to be controlled under some kind of external, oppressive power. This essay will explain Hobbes views of man s identity in the society and will demonstrate how it was mirrored in the political structure. In this state of war, says Hobbes, the continual fear of our neighbors would reduce our lives to: solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. It would be solitary because we have no reason to trust anyone else; poor because we have no possible benefit of commerce in such war; nasty because we are continually threatened and fearful of one another; brutish because we only have time to act on our passions like our fellow animals; and short because war of all against all results in many untimely and violent deaths. 1 This incredibly pessimistic account of the nature of human life, Hobbes says, is born in part by the actions of all of us, when, without any thinking, we arm ourselves and lock our doors. Does not there as much accuse of mankind by his actions as I do with my words? But neither of us accuse man s nature in it. The desires and the other passions of man, are in themselves no sin. No more are the actions, that proceed from those passions, till they know a law that forbids them: which till laws be made they cannot know: nor can a law be made, till they have agreed upon the person to make it. 2 Accordingly, by arming ourselves and locking our doors, Hobbes political recommendations reflect the way we live. In today s society it seems that no one believes in anything but money, which is leaving us morally bankrupt. People do what meets their own self interests. Dust is transported from Africa, other countries with large deserts and contains diverse microbial communities (bacteria and fungi) often containing pathogens. Most dust circulates to the Caribbean, North and Central America during June through October (Graham, 1979). Climate change has greatly affected dust transport partially because of decreased rainfall. Anthropogenic influence creates aerosols in the atmosphere and are derived from three primary sources: biomass burning, desert dust and pollution due to anthropogenic effects. Increasing agricultural land use (over grazing and over farming) are just a few of the contributing problems. The dust created by increasing desertification provides issues for human and marine health. Generally, ill health is correlated to higher dust storm rates, bacteria and fungi can be carried across seas for international infection, and dust storms can damage Florida flora by blocking sunlight preventing photosynthesis. Currently, there is still much information to be studied on African dust and how it affects various organisms. It is widely accepted that studies of African dust confirm human impact on the environment must decrease and we must find more efficient ways of agricultural development otherwise problems will continue to arise in many forms. • 34. Prophet Vs Watchman In order to fully understand the prophets and their message, it is important to recognize some fundamental facts. The presentation provided a rudimentary definition of a prophet, which goes beyond the normal meaning of foretelling the future. Dr. Yates metaphorically compared the prophet to a watchman, which imparted great insight. The watchman was explicitly set in place to stand or watch for any approaching enemies, and to warn of any impeding danger. The comparison and explanation does not remove the foretelling or forthtelling role of the prophet, but augments it by providing a factual interpretation of an inherited responsibility. As a watchman, it was the prophet s assignment not only to confront the sins of that day, but to warn them of God s forthcoming judgment. The message of judgment from God was proclaimed with hope that repentance would come in order to avoid the severity of the God s calamity. The prophets used metaphoric expressions to show the severity of man s sin or God s judgment. In understanding what to look for in Old Testament prophetic literature, the ... In Isaiah 1:16 23, the prophet was forthtelling the current situation of God s faithful and righteous nation. He was showing how the nation had turned away from God falling prey to sinful acts of defrauding, murdering, thievery, neglect of the poor, and rebellion. Isaiah was showing the state of Judah and its citizens moving from being righteous to doing evil from the princes to the merchants. The integrity of selling and buying was affected making exchange value rubbish and the wine diluted. • 35. The Issue Of Availability And Quality Of The Information... 4. Discuss the issue of availability and quality of the information that you base scenarios on. In order for any scenario to be successful, the type of information used must be current, relevant and reliable. If this is not the case then your scenario will not be effective at all, leading to a disastrous event which might even proceed to an organisation losing a lot of money eventually closing down. So carefully analysis of the type of information received and from which source is this information received from must be considered. When developing a scenario, a deep insightful research must be done in order to gather as much data as possible; from this data serious analysis is done to scan the data and only taking that which is useful (which now becomes useful information) in creating a scenario. The information needed here is mostly about that relating to the future, so hence such information will be hard to find or come up with. This is where the help of experts and external advisors comes to play, in order to verify the information you have and also add into your information. Companies usually have management information systems which they use to get the information need, and in these management information systems there are feathers of scenarios built in, to make the retrieval of information to be used in a scenario easier. Another way of getting the right type of information for running scenarios would be through other applications such as spread sheets. Since we are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Hurricane Andrew Research Paper Hurricane Andrew is a storm that destroyed South Florida, and the Bahamas, and ripped through Louisiana, costing as much as 26 billion dollars. Hurricane Andrew was formed of the west coast of Africa on August 14. When it passed the Caribbean, the pressure system made it stronger. From there, the wave moved the storm to the North Atlantic. People had started to leave the area right before the Hurricane started. Schools and businesses were shut down, it hit Dale County Florida at 5:00 a.m. August 24, and it was high tide when the waves hit. There was weird lightning streaks of blue greenish colors, and thick streams of water. Some people said it sounded like bombs were going off. Roofs were no longer to be seen and windows were broke glass everywhere. The waves surges were up to twelve feet high. High winds up to 170 mph. Category 4 Hurricane was ... Where buildings were toppled, bungalows out from their roots, and luxury hotels only had broken winds (Longshore, 1998). Several days before it had produced a deep convection, that had high pressure (Rappaport, 1993). On August 26, the storm was getting weaker everyday. A cold front was moving east and downgraded the storm to tropical. Soon when the Hurricane got to Pennsylvania, the storm faded away. Some people tried to dismantle their houses to see what was left (Sherrow, 1998). After the storm over, 11 inches of rain had fallen in Louisiana, and 7 inches in Mississippi (Rappaport, 1998). 275 small planes were no longer functionable. • 38. Lone Wolf s Attacks 1) Goals As leaders responsible for the security of our own constituents, the most important goals would need to be the security of British civilians working in Sureno. The deaths of innocent civilians, especially in a foreign land would undoubtedly lead to strong media attention and eventually public indignation that would be aimed at both the inability of the government to protect them as well as a public sentiment for retributive justice against One Way, especially via the use of military action. As it is also known that One Way leaders have called for members of Supreme in foreign countries to carry out acts of violence, it will also be important to maintain domestic security from either recruited or inspired Lone Wolfs attacks, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The British government should consider the attacks on British companies in Soreno as criminal acts of violence. This should be followed by condemnation of any violence against any British entity and state resolve to end the conflict. However, we should also explain that given the complex political situation in Soreno, it would be unwise to commit British lives to a foreign and uncertain conflict, especially it aggravates Soreno s opposition and motivate further attacks on British targets. The conflict should also be presented as a benign movement fighting in the interests of democracy and social justice. The small number of British troops deployed in Soreno will only be for the guarantee of peace in facilitation of the negotiation process and the protection of British citizens and companies. This will be argued to the public as necessary in order to resolve the root of the issue, prevent further attacks both by Liberty and Honor and One Way and prevent a spread of extremist ideology which may inspire further inspired attacks to undermine British society. The political narrative should also point out that One Way represent a narrow sect of Supreme fuelled by domestic grievances, and that British efforts are to ensure equitable settlements in the dispute and ... • 40. Grutter V. Bollinger Case Study Grutter v. Bollinger, 539 U.S. 306 (2003) FACTS: A Michigan resident was denied admission to the University of Michigan Law school, even though she had a 3.8 GPA and a score of 161 on the LSAT. Barbara Grutter sued the school alleging that they had discriminated against her based on her race, which would be in violation of her constitutional rights. The University of Michigan Law School argued that there is a state interest to not have a critical mass of students of a given race; so that minorities do not feel isolated. ISSUE: Can a public university or institution for higher learner tailor their admission of applicants by race to balance diversity within their student body? REASONING: Justice O Conner wrote the majority ruling for the Court. In her writing, she held that the Constitution does not forbid the narrowly tailored use of race admission process that the law school used; so that the school may obtain a diverse student body. The use of affirmative action was to reverse years of historic race bias in the United States. The use of this tailored process was a flexible, there was no quotas based on race but can use race as a plus factor in consideration for accepting an applicant. This was to promote a diverse educational environment. Though she wrote that the race based affirmative action ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
