Elementar developed a CS analyzer which combines highly accurate data with easy to use, clean and automated processes. Experience the new level of carbon and sulfur determination in metals and inorganic materials. The new inductar CS cube is full of innovative and advanced ideas to make CS analysis more easy to use and more reliable.
The hyphenation of elemental analysis and isotope ratio mass spectrometry (EA-IRMS) has opened up entirely new possibilities in a multitude of application areas ranging from environmental research, climate reconstruction or archeology to resource exploration, product authentication or criminology. High performance elemental analysis, free of measurement artefacts at all times, is key to the high data quality needed in isotope ratio determination.
This webinar presents the dedicated solutions offered by Elementar for the EA-IRMS analysis of all organic as well as a multitude of inorganic sample matrices.
Elemental analysis does not just start by inserting the sample into the combustion tube! Sample preparation is an essential part of elemental analysis and influences analysis results directly. This webinar addresses all users of elemental analysis and communicates important basics of sample preparation – from homogenization of the sample to wrapping it.
It is a multi-element analysis technique that will separate a sample into its constituent atoms and ions and excite it to a higher energy level.
Cause them to emit light with a distinct wavelength, which will be analyzed.
Elemental analysis provides critical information for the evaluation of soil fertility and the elucidation of nutrient cycles. The soil C/N ratio is an important parameter for judging soil fertility, S concentrations are connected to fertilizer inputs and atmospheric deposition, and C concentrations are indicative for soil organic matter content. Because soils are inhomogeneous by nature, sample amount plays in important role in their analysis. This webinar presents the dedicated solutions offered by Elementar for the elemental analysis of soils.
Many factors impacting the measurement precision of ICP-OES and ICP-MS are still often neglected for everyday operation, however. Sample preparation is one of the factors that play a crucial role in the success of high-quality sample analysis. In this webinar, our experts will discuss sample preparation to: 1) improve analysis precision 2) make difficult samples easy to be analyzed 3) eliminate sample dilution to minimize error introduction.

XRD
X-ray diffraction (XRD) is an analytical technique looking at X-ray scattering from crystalline materials. Each material produces a unique X-ray "fingerprint" of X-ray intensity versus scattering angle that is characteristic of it's crystalline atomic structure.
X-ray diffraction procedures
apply only to crystalline
Materials.
Principles of XRD
X-ray diffraction is based on constructive interference of monochromatic X-rays and a crystalline sample.
The interaction of the incident rays with the sample produces constructive interference (and a diffracted ray) when conditions satisfy Bragg's Law (nλ=2d sin θ).
XRD Techniques
XRD Techniques
Applications of XRD
Limitations of XRD
XRF
X-Ray Fluorescence is defined as “The emission of characteristic "secondary" (or fluorescent) X-rays from a material that has been excited by bombarding with high-energy X-rays. The phenomenon is widely used for elemental analysis.”
X-ray fluorescence procedures
applied to the material
in any physical state,
solid, liquid and gas.
Principles of XRF
The XRF method depends on fundamental principles that are common to several other instrumental methods involving interactions between electron beams and X-rays with samples, including, X-ray spectroscopy (e.g. SEM – EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and wavelength dispersive spectroscopy (microprobe WDS).

Tips and tricks for improving the extraction efficiency will be covered, along with selection criteria for each technique by sample type, assisting analysts in modifying existing methods or developing new methods to tackle their analytical challenges
The webinar is all about Ultra High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC) performance and how new column technology can deliver the best separation power and be married with the best UHPLC system to ensure an outstanding result. It covers how chromatographers can ensure that even very complex and unfamiliar samples are assayed with the highest scrutiny possible? The webinar discusses how to get the most out of solid core column technology with the right UHPLC system. It covers the use of an extremely long column approach for ultra-high resolution assays and the outlines the importance of robustness and retention time stability.

The concentration of sulfur and nitrogen in oil is an important parameter for the evaluation of the product quality. Due to the increasing importance of biofuels which contain much less sulfur or nitrogen than fuel from mineral oil, one can observe an increasing demand for lower detection limits for both, sulfur and nitrogen. The newly developed trace SN cube by Elementar Analysensysteme GmbH provides laboratories with a reliable tool for the analysis.
The analytical principle is based on high temperature combustion. Sulfur is converted into SO2 which is detected by UV fluorescence, nitrogen is converted into NO and detected by chemoluminescence detection, thus providing full compliance with the international standards ASTM D 4629 (1), ASTM D 5453 (2) and ASTM D 6290 (3). The effective combustion process ensures a 100% recovery of all sulfur and nitrogen compounds. This can be achieved by two separated channels for sulfur and nitrogen which allows the optimal control of the digestion process for each element. The optimization of the combustion process ensures a soot-free combustion without the need for a sophisticated control of the injection process. Therefore the sample can be injected at rapid speed, resulting in sharp peaks and an excellent signal-to-noise ratio. Furthermore the easy construction of the combustion tube allows the direct injection of gaseous samples from a gas-tight syringe. It will be demonstrated during the webinar that catalyst-aided combustion is essential to achieve full recovery and matrix-independent oxidation.

21. Combustion Method: Work Flow
26.01.2016 inductar CS cube 21
Preheat
crucibles
Burn ceramic
crucibles at
1300 K for 2 h
to remove all
C impurities
Prepare
sample
Make drillings,
chips, etc.,
clean them
with acetone
and dry them
Weigh
sample
Weigh clean and
dry sample (1 g)
into crucible and
transfer weight
to software
Add
accelerator
Fill one scoop of
accelerator (e.g.
1,5 g of W/Sn)
into preheated
ceramic crucibles
Analysis
Place the filled
crucible into the
autosampler
and start the
measurement
23. Combustion Method: Advantages
• Representative results
• Fast analysis
• High accuracy
• Low limit of detection
Ideal method for certification and quality control of all materials
