2. I think my main product and ancillary texts work very well together mainly due to how strongly they perform to the
ideologies and stereotypes with the genre of Alternative Rock. I have kept continuity throughout my products, for
example, using the same font for my artists name in order to represent her and act as a logo. The fonts used are ALL
conventional of the Alternative rock genre which I have audience research to support this with. I have used
screenshots from my footage, turning them into still images and manipulated them, cropping them, editing them to
however I want. I did this in order to create a link between my products. I took photographs of Daisy on CCTV footage
as I think the edits on the digi-paks look as though they are from a TV, this creates this link between my products and
makes them easily recognisable. However, I did not end up using the footage and still images I have on Daisy on CCTV
as I thought other footage I had and used worked more effectively. The still images of Daisy are displayed within my
planning and research. I used the same effects and experimented with different edits until I found the one most
suited.
3. MISE-EN-SCENE
Mise-en-scene is arguably one of the most useful ways that I created continuity throughout my products. For example, within
my video there are shots continuously throughout showing Daisy drinking, in fact, she is even shown in the cellar of the pub,
being at the base of where the alcohol is in a literal sense showing how ‘deep’ in she is with her alcohol and drug addiction and
how much she craves for it. For the digi-pak I took several images of the bar and alcohol bottles. I really liked the image to the
right as I thought the high quantity of spirit bottles really emphasised how extreme the addiction was. I duplicated this image,
flipping it 180’ and then 90’ clockwise in order to create this effect. In my video, I also showed how she was in a pub by using a
wide shot showing the pub itself and the sign to initially show the audience where she is. I created continuity throughout my
ancillary texts by distinguishing and using a set location. Although in the video Daisy does move about she is usually within the
pub location.
4. Daisy in all of the products has dark eye makeup, she keeps the same clothing and same hair style. One small difference
could easily change the whole perception, such as, her hair tied up she might look a lot different and less rocognisable.
Taylor Momsen keeps her style the same as this is ‘her style’ she never has her hair up, and constantly has dark eye
makeup and dark clothes. Likewise, Daisy wears a leather jacket throughout the whole video.
The video is initiates with the shot to the right where you can identity a red lighting over the silhouette of her face, this
creates continuity between my ancillary products as red is a predominant colour used within the edits. Linking the video
with the ancillary texts, but also supporting the conventional genre of Alterative rock and colours within that genre.
5. In regards to Cinematography, most of the shots on the ancillary products are medium-close ups, with the exception of
one close up on the digi-pak. This is likewise to the music video as most of the shots are medium close up from the
shoulders upwards, this is as she is usually drinking or doing drugs within the video, therefore putting her hand to her
mouth a lot, this type of shot makes the audience able to see her actions. For example, if she is drinking and an extreme
close up of her nose is used this would be very pointless and be bad use of camera. There is an extreme close up used
within the video of her eyes to show them dilating as she is doing drugs and getting higher, we do not need to see her
doing the drugs (although we do) the best way to show how the drugs are having an effect on her are by showing her
pupils dilate.
Low key lighting is used throughout all of my products in order to establish a negative mood; how she thinks low of
herself. The excessive use of alcohol and drugs is inevitably damaging to her mental health along with her psychical
health also. The use of red within the ancillary texts is then predominant against the dark background making them
more illuminating attracting the general audience.
6. I tried to incorporate this ‘fuzzy’ and ‘blurry’ effect in to my final video by using shallow depth of field when taking my
footage, this was easily create if I went up to something really close and the camera tried to go in focus, usually this is
something editors would crop out but I found this really effective aesthetically and in order to create continuity between
my products. This fuzzy and blurry effect could also be created through transition effects during post-production. It is
hard to create continutity through my editing between products as the ancillary texts are still images, though, I
emphasised the blurry and fuzzy effect by duplicating layers within my footage, slowing them down and changing the
opacity in order to create a ‘drunken’, and hallucinating effect. This effect is also created in my ancillary texts as the edits
are out of focus and distorted, similar to how Daisy is in the video.
I kept the fonts throughout my ancillary texts the same as stated previously, I wanted it to represent my artist and act as a
logo. Likewise, I created a logo in order to create verisimilitude creating the effect of a real record label. The more
professional my product looks the more consumers that would invest. I also kept the images the same, however, changed
the colours slightly by adding a grey rectangle over on ancillary 1 with a low opacity in order to tone down the bright
colours in the edit.
