2. My main product was my music video and my ancillary task was my digipak and magazine advert. In
my music video I used dark colours in order to link the colour theme to the mood of the song. My
brand identity would be the black and white theme I have used as that is continuous throughout all
my work. I used lots of grey costume and furniture so that I could create a depressing tone (9) that I
wanted my character to have as I used the dark grey brick walls in the bathroom and the grey coat
and bedding all so that it could link back to the theme of sadness that I was trying to create(10). This
links to my ancillary task because both my Digipak and my magazine advert have the grey brick wall
background again to create that dark, depressing mood that the song creates also because this
background was used during the shower scenes which is when I think the character looks and feels
the most depressed. Throughout my music video I wanted to portray my character as heart broken
and miserable which I did by having her perform in the shower as I felt like this had a powerful,
dramatic effect on how sad she really looked (11). However I also wanted to add a more to my video
than just performance so I created more of a narrative by adding in the scenes where she is burning
pictures of her and her boyfriend to help show the story behind why she is so sad and heartbroken. I
then linked back to my digipak and magazine advert as the images that are on the front and back
cover of my digipak are of the same person while she was in the shower with her hair all wet in the
same location which i believe really helped to add that more dramatic effect I wanted. I then put the
images in black and white which again makes it more depressing but also links the digipak back to
the artist of my song as Sia is known for wearing nothing but black and white as well as her famous
black and white wig which links back to all 3 products as each product as a recurring black and white
theme to link to the artist and the sad theme with the same person on all 3 and text throughout.
3. For my ancillary I created a magazine advert and digipak that advertise my final product. For my
digipak and magazine advert I had a black and white style to create the sad effect so that I could
link it back to my final product and my chosen artist as I used dark costume and make-up. I used
big bold fonts for my titles which were called โMyraid Proโ in the colours white and red in order
to add some colour to the products so that they would stand out and be eye-catching. The colour
red was chosen because red links back to the colour of love and danger which is the theme
throughout my products. My main title for the artists name was edited so that it was just the
outline of the text and is clear in the middle to represent how she is hallow inside which links
back to this theme of sadness. This was done in so that you could still see the image behind the
text which creates a mirrored effect through the text which links back to my music video for when
she is singing into her reflection in the mirror. I also used images for both my digipak and advert
from the shower scenes that are seen in my music video which links the ancillary task to my final
product because I have used the same character and locations that you see in the music video as
you can see the tiles from the shower room behind the model so that you know that itโs from the
same scene. The song titles that I chose also link back to the theme of sadness as each song that I
chose each have the same theme of love and heartbreak.
4. My digipak and my magazine advert were both part of my ancillary task and I linked them
both together by using the same colour scheme throughout. The colour scheme I used was
black and white which I created in order to link back to the artist of the song as Sia is
known for her big black and white wigs and costumes (12). I also added a splash of red
into the colour scheme in order to make it more exciting to look at which I carried out
through both my digipak and magazine advert. I also linked my digipak and advert
together by having images using the same images of the same person on both products as
well as having the same image I used as my album cover on the advert. I also used the
exact same styled and sized fonts on both my digipak and my magazine advert which
again creates a clear link between the two so that you know that they link together.
In order to create a stronger brand identity there are a few things I could change that could be
made between my ancillary tasks and my final product. I could do this by adding more features
of the colour red throughout my music video in order to link back to the red text you see in my
digipak and magazine advert. I could also create a stronger brand identity throughout my music
video by adding the same titles I used throughout my digipak and advert to the beginning of my
music video to introduce the song and artist. However there is also a strong brand identity
throughout my final product and ancillary task as I used the same model from the music video
for my images which gives them a clear link. I also used the same colour scheme throughout my
music video as I did throughout my digipak and advert which again makes a clear link between
the two so that you can identify that they go together.
5. It is important to have an effective combination because having the combination shows that the
products are linked together where as if they werenโt combined people would think they are
separate products and wouldnโt see that they go together. My overall theme was sadness in order
to link back to my music video and song which are each quite depressing. My house style and
layout of my products was black and white which I did throughout my ancillary tasks to create the
depressing theme I aimed for as well as linking back to the artist as she wears black and white
costumed and wigs. I also used the colour red because it links to love which links back to peopleโs
sadness.
