1. Question 4 script
Poppy:
We used the online program of Prezi a zooming online presentation to display
some of our work in the research process. We used Prezi to display our existing
analysis of an existing Digipak. Danial and I decided to analysis the cover of Katy
Perry’s Teenage Dream Album. We both did separate analysis-using Prezi, we
analysed the Cover using the theories behind music videos such as the Laura
Mulvey’s Male Gaze theory. We used the path sequence in Prezi to make our
analysis zoom across relating to a part on the Digipak because this is easy way of
following our analysis which needed to keep in mind when creating our Digipak.
Danial:
There was various tools that we used to our advantage during the planning and
construction to help inspire and develop the creation and construction of our
music video. Examples of this include the video website YouTube which we used
to view music videos from such artist as Olly Murs, The Script and Ed Sheeran we
took aspects and techniques from these artist’s videos that we wanted
incorporate in our own video e.g. the split screen sequence used in our video was
inspired by the split screen technique that can be seen in The Script’s video for
their song six degrees of separation. We also used it for our shot count task
earlier in the planning and construction and this give us an idea of how many
shots when it came to create our own video.
Poppy:
For our Music video I used the editing software Final Cut as the editing program
has advance effects I can include in my sequence.
One of the advance effects I used was the Split Screen, which Danial mentioned
was inspired from an existing Script video. I created the split screen by creating a
new sequence in Final Cut; I lined the three clips up in each separate layer. I then
used the view image and wireframe, and resize the clips and used the crop tool
to get them the size I needed. Finally I overlay the three clips and lined them up
to create a 3-split screen effect. Which I used to show the actress walking in and
entering her house with in the sequence, as this suggest the passage of time it
takes her to get to her house, the more time Danial has to wait for the one he
loves in the narrative.
I downloaded the vintage old film effect from the effects website vimeo.com, and
I decide to use it in my sequence at 0.48 to 1.26 which is the part of the narrative
where Danial is recalling his memories with this girl he once loved. I decided to
use this video effect as I felt it complimented the message I wanted to send to the
audience that Danial feels he’s memories with this girl are like a 50’s romantic
classic film.

To create the Digipak and the Magazine Advertisement I used the photo editing
software Adobe Photoshop. Before I could start manipulating photos I arranged a
photoshoot to take a wide variety of shots to choose from for the Digipak and
2. Advert. I displayed the photos on a slideshow website called Photosnack which
allowed me to share the all the shots on my blog.
On the Magazine Advert I manipulated the image by using the Hue and
Saturation tools as I changed the Hue and Saturation levels to make the
background of the image appear black and white, while the model remained in
bold colour. Wedecided to use this effect, as the bold colours of the model’s outfit
stands out and this would be aesthetically pleasing to the audience’s eye.
I used the polygonal lasso to cut out the model’s image on the advertisement, as
I had to cut out in order to keep the colour in the image. It was a slow and time-
consuming process but I feel that it was worth the time as it gives contrast
against the background.
The main tool in Photoshop I used in the creation of the Digipak and advert was
the Text tool.Asthe Digipak needed to include vital information such as the band
name, track listings, copyright information, album name and Record Company
information. Furthermore the Magazine advert had to contain vital information
such as band name, star ratings and release dates.
On the Digipak I used a same font across the Digipak, which I downloaded from
urbanfonts.com, with the spines being an exception. I used abeatbyKaifont
mainly for the front cover of the Digipak, as I wanted appear it was engraved
onto the rock the model. We used the font on all of the Digipak for continuity. The
dark pink colour of the font is a consistent theme throughout. It is used on our
advertisement, our back cover and spines of Digipak. This is because it matches
the model’s t-shirt, which stands out to the viewer’s eye so by deciding to use
this colour throughout our Digipak and Advertisement stands out to an audience.
The crop tool in Photoshop was used to simply to make pictures the right size to
accommodate to our digipak and cut out bits that weren’t necessarily needed.
For my digipak inspiration I looked at various other digipak’s using the website
freecovers.net. I’ve took some inspiration from covers by The Script, in particular
the type of font that on the front cover of their debut album and is reoccurring
theme throughout. I decided to use this type of font on our Advertisement and on
the spines of our Digipak. I wanted to use this font, as it would be instantly
recognizable to the fans and the audience.

We both have blogs on the online site of blogger.com as we find this to be an easy
way of displaying our G324 Advanced Portfolio. We chose to use this form of
presentation to display each section of the coursework – Planning, Research
Construction and Evaluation as on blogger we can embed videos, images and
Slideshare. Using Blogger to display our coursework was also effective because it
acted like a working document, as each time we completed a task for our
coursework we would compile all the information into a blog and the post the
post. Showing that our coursework is a working progress.
