Question 2 final
1. How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary
texts?
2. APPEALING TO AN INDIE AUDIENCEAPPEALING TO AN INDIE AUDIENCE
The magazine's use of black and white as
well as colour followed through our aim of
appealing to an indie audience as we
thought it was unusual and we hadn't seen
it in previous magazine cover's we had
looked at. The way we used colour for the
motifs of the character's also allowed the
film to be more recognisable for the
audience.
The main focus with our magazine
cover's was the actors and character's
rather than the production values of
the film. This is why we included an
interview with the actors, as it
introduced the personalities of the
actor's to the audience, and especially
as Gabrielle Wood was the up and coming
actor, it added the idea of exclusivity
for the audience.
Although the actor's are centrally more
important in promoting our film as
whole, we included the flower crown and
hoodie to still keep a sense of their
character's in the film but in a subtle
way so the audience are able to
recognise these motifs in our poster
and trailer too.
3. RUNNING MOTIFS THROUGHOUT OURRUNNING MOTIFS THROUGHOUT OUR
PRODUCTSPRODUCTS
THE BIRD AND BEE
FINN: THE HOODIE
SETTING: THE
BENCH
LEXA: THE
FLOWER CROWN
We used motifs in our
products so the
audience were able to
recognise and link
them with the
characters.
The bench was the
main meeting point
for the two main
characters in our
film which was
significant for
our narrative and
so we wanted to
include this in
our poster.
We used the flower crown for our
character Lexa as a way of
reflecting her personality,
quirky and different. But it was
again, used as a tool of
recognition for the audience.
4. THE TAGLINETHE TAGLINE
For our tagline, we wanted to incorporate
all elements of our narrative so that the
audience were able to understand the genre
and for it to act as a tool to sell our
promotional package. By choosing to have the
tagline slates at the end of the trailer, it
meant that the audience would be more likely
to recognise the film and promotional
package when they see the tagline in the
poster as well as the trailer.
5. THE FONTS We used the font 'impact label', also from
dafont.com for the actor's names title slates, the
end release date and also the production company
slate. We also used this same font for the cover
lines of our magazine cover's. We felt that this
font worked really well in our trailer and we
wanted to include it in the magazine cover's to
tie the promotional package together and to create
continuity.
The font 'Brainflower' that we also
downloaded from dafont.com was used for
the title of our film. To combine all of
our texts, we used this font as a tool
to make our promotional package more
recognisable for the audience. We used
it in the name titles of the actor's in
our magazine cover's, the title slates
in the trailer and also the slogan, cast
names release date and film title on our
poster.
