How does my advert conform to general conventions of a music advert?
1. How Does My Advert Conform To
General Conventions?
By Eleanor Robson
2. What Are The General Conventions Of
A Music Advert?
• Release date
• Album/song title
• Image
• Artist name
• Extra information
• Where it is available to purchase
• Record label logo
3. Release Date
• I placed the release date in big, bold letters
towards the bottom of my advertisement so it
is easy for the audience to see. I also used a
white font to contrast to the dark background
making sure that is stands out to the reader.
4. Song Title
• I added the song title towards the bottom of
the advert again in big, bold writing to make
sure it is easily visible to the audience and
catches their eye. Above the song title I wrote
‘brand new single’ to make it sound more
appealing to the audience.
5. Image
• This was the original image however I decided
to edit it so it was black and white as my
music video is mainly black and white and also
rock genre is usually made up of dark colours.
I chose this picture as I like the
way everyone is set out and it
also left me a good space to place
the name of the band at the top.
6. Artist Name
• So obviously when an advertisement is being
created for a song/album, you’re not only
promoting this but also the artist as well. I
decided to add the bands name at the top,
centre of the advert in big, bold letters and
chose a font from ‘dafont’ website to make it
appear more ‘rock’.
7. Extra Information
• Placed at the bottom of my advert I included
the band’s website where any fans can go and
see what is happening with the band and also
I included an NME rating. I used NME as when
researching this business I found in their
magazine they tend to have rock bands in it so
I thought this would be the perfect magazine
to give it a rating. I chose 4 stars
to show the audience how good
of a song it is.
8. Available To Purchase
• Right at the bottom of the advertisement I
included a white strip where it shows the
audience where the song is available to
purchase. I included iTunes, play.com and also
Amazon mp3, I chose these businesses as they
are all very well known and always have a vast
selection of music to buy.
