2. Digipak
When stylizing my model Dan for the digipak, I
dressed him in ordinary clothes, typically jeans
and converse as only is bottom half where been
shot, and I made this conscious decision as it
symbolized Dan as an ordinary normal person.
The text in which I used for the digipak was a
simple font, as I wanted the text to be easy to
read and understand. From research I found this
is conventional to have simple text and have
the artist and album name large in composition
to the main image. For the title of my album I
simply used the singles title ‘I’m a mess as this is
also a conventional thing to do for indie/pop
artists as it keeps everything simple and
understandable.
3. Genre
As my genre is indie/pop I had to make this clear
to the audience, I think I have done this well
because I feel all the imagery used is typical of
what is usually used in exiting indie/pop artist’s
products. For example there is more focus on the
artwork rather than the imagery of the artist, as I
haven’t used images of my artist on the digipak of
magazine poster. As my genre is a dual genre, my
products needed to hold conventions of both
genres, therefore it was essential not just to focus
on indie conventions as pop is the more popular
genre and would sell my product further, that is
why I used the main colour red as this is usually
associated with pop and a linear narrative.
4. Effects
I wanted all my products to combine together
effectively to create continuity, to achieve this I
needed to make sure all aspects where relate-
able to each product, for example the colour
scheme is followed throughout, such as the
black and white scenes in the video link to the
black and white flowers used in the digipak and
the black and white effect added to the poster.
I used some specific skills to create similar effect
on each product, for example when editing I
altered the opacity on clips to create an
overlaying effect, I carried this effect over
across to both my ancillary texts because when
in Photoshop CS6 I layered the same image but
changed the opacity to create a certain effect
as shown in digipak with the flowers.
5. Effects
Even though changing the opacity is a simple
effect to use, it managed to help all my
products combine well together making them
effective, as this effect is available to use on all
of my texts. In terms of keeping the colour
scheme the same throughout all my products,
as the main focus is on the red roses I used the
tools in Photoshop to select the colour of the
roses to keep the colours exactly the same
keeping continuity throughout the products. By
having a colour scheme this becomes distinct
to the product and helps to make the products
recognizable to the audience.
6. In terms of what I think makes my music video effective is the
use of typical codes and conventions, a linear narrative and a
mixture of underlying messages and themes. I tried to show the
connection between the visuals and the lyrics throughout my
video, as the meaning behind the lyrics is too strong not to do
so. I think because my video has meaning this keeps the
audience interested and wanting to re-watch or recommend to
someone to watch. The collaboration of my digipak, poster and
music video would relate to elements of convergence and cross
media. Overall I think I have produced successful products as I
have stuck to typical codes and conventions that make each
product combine well together and I have added my own
unique style to each text. In terms of distribution if I were to sell
my album I would sell it for £7.99 as this is a typical price range
aimed to my demographic group, as they are students and are
likely not have a lot of money, adding to this I would also have
the album available to purchase on iTunes, as there is no need
for packaging the price will be less roughly around £5.99. The
poster would feature in magazines such as Q and Billboard to
address a more music orientated audience. Further places my
poster may feature are in bus stops or on billboards placed
around built up areas such as the Tube walls.
