1. How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?

2. For my A2 coursework I needed to make a music video and two
ancillary tasks, which I chose to do a digipak and a poster. The
ancillary tasks are suppose to market the product. When
combined the ancillary tasks should act as a marketing campaign
for the song I have made a video for. This is so they could
become a successful brand when they're put together. I did this by
using the same theme for each product so the audience will know
straight away who the artist is and therefore think of them every
time they see one of product. As well as marketing the main
product, this markets the artists.
3. Digipak
For my digipak I took pictures of scenery
and the artist and altered them using
photoshop. The theme for my ancillary
tasks was a dark gloomy one because the
song itself is quite dark with the lyrics.
Also from research into similar products
and the genre I found that it was a common
theme. The theme also followed the setting
of the video so people can easily relate
them together.
4. Poster
The poster I created was also of a similar theme to my digipak so
they could work together and bring attention to the main product.
With my poster I also use Photoshop to alter the theme and how
the artist comes across, which is very important. My artist needed
to look serious and like a ‘bad boy’, like guys in the genre
typically are.
5. Conclusion
Each product is is linked with the title and front. I stuck with the
front ‘Libian SC’ for the band name as it is bold and matches the
style of the band. This also becomes the brand name of the
product and is recognizable. For the title of the album I went for
‘charlemagne std’ as it looked good for the word ‘demons’. It is
also very bold and eye-catching, therefore my audience are more
likely to take notice of the album and poster.
My artist also linked all three products together. He featured in
the video, on the poster and on the album. This creates a strong
image of what Imagine Dragons looks like and the thought when
the name is said. This is effective as each product markets each
other – if someone has seen one of the products, they will
recognize and connect the other products.
