EVALUATION ACTIVITY 7
 Compared to our preliminary task, the camerawork in our final
media product, ‘They Follow’, improved greatly.
 In our preliminary task we used minimal, basic camera shots. For
example, the main shots that were used were over the shoulder
shots and long shots. However, when it came to filming our media
production, we used a greater amount of greater camera shots. For
example, the opening sequence alone included close-up, extreme
close-up, POV, medium and long shots. We decided that the use of
close-up and extreme close-up shots were important in order to
connote what the protagonist was feeling. POV shots were used so
that the audience were able to see everything that the protagonist
was feeling – helping them feel more involved. Medium and long
shots were used so that the audience were able to identify where
the protagonist was.
CAMERAWORK
 Although we didn’t use a large amount of camera movement in our
final media product, we used more than we did in our preliminary
task as we didn’t use any camera movement in our preliminary
task.
 In our media product, a tilt was used at the end of the opening
sequence when the protagonist is waking up. This created a sense
of confusion. Straight after, a focus pull was used to reveal the
antagonists un a clearer view.
 Whilst in our preliminary task we did not use any camera angles, we
decided to use them in our media product. For example, in our
media product a low angle is used when the antagonists are
standing over the protagonist – this shows that they are dominant.
CAMERAWORK
 In our preliminary tasks, the framing of our shots were not efficient
and accurate. For example, when filming a close-up shot in our
preliminary, we did not take notice of the rule of thirds. However,
when it came to filming for our media product, we took the rule of
thirds into account which resulted in our shots looking more
professional.
CAMERAWORK
 During the making of our preliminary task, we weren’t completely
aware on how to use our editing software (final cut pro). Because of
this, it took us a long while to edit our preliminary task. We kept
the editing quite simple as it was all we knew what to do.
 However, when it came to our media product, we were much more
experienced with final cut pro. Because of this, we were able to edit
our footage in a way that looked professional. For example, we used
match on action when the protagonist was kicking down the door.
We were also able to edit in sound effects and score music to
emphasise the suspense.
EDITING
 During our preliminary task, the over the shoulder shot was not
executed as well as it could’ve been.
 For example, each persons heads weren’t positioned correctly in the
frame.
 Although we didn’t end up using an over the shoulder shot in our
media product, we were still aware on how to film it properly just in
case.
OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT
 In our preliminary task we used match on action, however it did not
flow and run as smoothly as it could’ve.
 However, in our media product, we executed a match on action that
followed up with close-ups o help it flow smoothly and appear of a
higher quality.
MATCH ON ACTION
 By the time it came to creating our media product, our skills had
improved dramatically from our preliminary task. Because of this,
we were able to execute our media product in a much more
professional way in comparison to our preliminary task.
