The music video, album artwork, and poster for Tulisa's first album are all linked through consistent elements like color schemes, outfits, and images that either appear or are referenced across the materials. These linking elements reinforce the artist's image as a fun and girly role model for young girls through staged poses, playful scenes with friends, and avoidance of revealing outfits. The visual consistency across the materials is intended to establish Tulisa's brand and sell the album to its target audience of young female fans.
2. Relate to each other?
All my music video, digipak and poster are all linked in settings. They all refer
back to the music video so they are all linked.
My Poster links to the green screen room in the music video and also links to
the some of the images on the digipak and also the poster and they the
images are either in black and white or are edited to brighten the colours.
They all differ slightly whether it’s the use of different pictures of one of
them being in colour or black and white but they are all linked through the
colour schemes used for the text and also the outfits are linked to the video
and the colour schemes as some of the pictures are in black and white with
red lips and others are edited into being very bright all over.
3. Relate to each other?
The text used in the album and poster look
handwritten making them a bit more personal
towards Tulisa and also towards her fans as they
believe they are getting more intimate with the
artist and also connotates the girly side of the
album and poster.
The images throughout are all very staged and
posed, this allows us to get a feel of the artists
more playful side and this links throughout all the
products produced and are shown the femininity
of the artist pouting and posing allowing young
girls to relate to her.
4. Sell the album?
Using conventions of the genre sell the album to a certain audience such as
having a close up of the artist on the front cover with her name but also
differing conventions to draw the attention like the red lips on the black and
white picture matching the text making it more striking and also the cover
being in black and white contrasting with the bright colours of the pictures
on the inside.
The colours and images used reinforce the genre this album is aimed at, they
are similar to how the girls who would listen to this would behave or want to
act and as she is portrayed as being a role model to girls of this age
reinforcing morals and principles and the stereotypical ideologies of how a
role model should act in order to influence girls.
The music video, digipak and poster are very conventional as they are
structured and limited to few settings in order to establish the artist as it’s
her first album, the use of colours is eye catching and different to genres of
this kind, it differentiates itself enough but also is a use of synergy between
all products and with the use of them all being linked it can produce a brand
to allow the artist to merchandise themselves throughout their career.
Also Levi Strauss discusses binary opposition which is used in all of our
products with the use of black and white and colour of the lips or colour of
the settings allowing the products to differentiate.
5. Reinforce the band’s/performer’s
image?
All of the products present the artist in the
same way, they are used to present her as a role
model to girls, we have deliberately avoided
revealing outfits similar to people like Selena
Gomez and Miley Cyrus who were portrayed to
be role models to avoid the male gaze and be
focused on one target audience but it also fits
the genres image as she is in nice clothes and is
playful and direct to the camera linking to the
audience and has dance scenes which fit this
genre.
The poses use show the artist to be fun and
girly and the locations we used are to reinforce
the artists image of enjoying herself with her
friends and being young.
