2. Research
• When doing my research for this project, I already had a rough idea of what I
wanted to do for the final piece after doing a quick experiment. So when it
came to research I knew what type of theme I wanted and the style that the
game had to be in, which was pixel art. So when it came to looking for images
to help give me more of an idea for my product, I had a rough idea that I
wanted it to be a city in the night them. But I also wanted it to be a Chinese
theme. When searching for images to help give me an idea of how I could
create the background for the game I look at a Chinese hut and city themes in
the night.
• But the thing that made the research a little difficult was that there weren't
any really basic Chinese huts that I could use as some where very complicated,
so I was limited to use one image.
• But when researching it also gave me a rough idea of what things I should start
on first and what things need more time to be spent on.
• Furthermore, to make my research better and improve it I could have looked
at a few more images of types of character and rewards for the product. But if
I did this I think the game would have turned out differently either for the
better or maybe the worse. But overall I am happy with the research I did for
the project and how it turned out.
3. Planning
• In my planning I had an idea of what type of game I wanted it to be, the theme
of the game and character. So to help me gather my ideas together and help
me see what I wanted to include in the final product, I did a mind map. One
for video game ideas and the other for the final idea. The good thing about
this is that it showed me how I should do things and what things should be
started on first. The only bad thing about it was I had to write it out and then
scan it which took a bit of time but it was worth it.
• However I think to improve my planning a bit more I think I could maybe write
more on how I would create the background and details and the time I needed
to spend on it. If I did this I think that it would have given me a better
understanding on what I needed to do and maybe the product would have
turned out slightly different. However I think with the other PowerPoints and
then the product that I had to do. I think it was alright just doing the ideas the
way I did as it gave me a rough idea of what I needed to include in the game.

6. Time Management
• I think I have managed my time well for this project as I have finished the
project on time. However I did add some improvements to my game that
came from per feedback. Which took a bit of time to do as I had to make
the game a little longer, so then I had to make the audio all time right. So I
did run over production time a little. But I did finish everything for the
project before the deadline.
• However if I did have more time for the project I would try and include the
improvements from my peer feedback, by adding another character to
make the game interesting. But also to help me aim for that higher grade.
But I would also add a few more frames in the game, if I had more time for
the project, so that I could make the cat moving side to side smoother
rather than going too quick.
• Overall I finished my work on time and I am happy with the outcome to
say I have made my first game.
7. Technical Qualities
• I think when making this project there were quite a few difficulties. First being the
pixel art, I think there are some good things about it such as how it came out after
it being so time consuming and making everything the size I wanted it. However
the bad side about the pixel art was that in some areas it looked odd so I changed it
slightly so that it all went well with everything in the background.
• The animation was quite rough at the start as the cat was moving too fast and the
animation as a whole was too quick but after making a few adjustments which took
a bit of time and adjusting the timing of each frame and adjusting the character in
each frame. I'm happy with how its turned out. However, if I was to do this again I
would make it so that the character moves side to side a little slower so that it
looks a little smother but within the time I've created it I'm happy with the
outcome.
8. Technical qualities
• Looking at a game that was created ages ago and
has grown over the years and looking at my game
that I have created. The similarities between
both is that they are both coin collecting games
• However in Mario it specifies what world and
level it is, whereas the game I have created
doesn't specify what level it is. The bad thing
about not specifying the level is that if someone
was to play this they wouldn't’t know what level
they have completed and maybe lose motivation
as they see no aim because the levels aren't
shown.
• The difference between the two games is that
one in the night in a city and the other is in the
day in mushroom land. I think that if the scenery
swapped between them I don’t think they would
look as good as the scenery has been made to
look like that for a reason.
9. Aural Qualities
• When doing the audio for this project I think I aimed to do like a Chinese tune as it
was a Chinese theme. I think that it went really well creating that however the only
bad thing about the audio was I had to time how many loops it had to do so that it
was similar length to the animation and the audio wouldn’t always export due to
beepbox not working on safari. So I think that was the bad thing about the audio.
• I think to make my audio better I would have put different tunes into it and made it
more complex rather than being a simple tune. But with the time I had left I think
the audio fitted well with the game. When it came to my audio I was
experimenting and creating some sounds and I chose 4 tunes to use for my game,
one for the yellow coins, one for the red coins, one for the diamonds and one as
the background tune. The tunes for the coins and diamonds overlapped with the
background music really well. So the tunes sort of became like one because they
weren't to different to too much the same.
• However when listening to a variety of games with Chinese audio. They all sounded
as if the harp was being played with drums in quite a high tune. However after
listening to my audio it sounds like the piano is being played in quite a high tune
also. But overall I think the audio I picked fitted well with the game I made.
10. Aesthetic Qualities• I think within the time I have had to create the game I
think it looks good. I like how the trees and huts turned
out and how the text is easily visible. But if I was to
improve the background and the game as a whole I
would improve the road and add white lines to help
make it look more like a road.
• Throughout the game I think there are a range of colours
that have gone really well together and none that stand
out too much or not at all. I also think the art
throughout the game kind of shows that its meant to be
a city in china. But if I had more time to improve it and
show that a bit more I would try and add more cherry
blossoms and huts.
• The bad thing about the art is that some of the colours
on the buildings repeat themselves too much and if I
could improve that if I had the time I would do it so there
was less colors repeating more than others.
• Overall I am happy with the outcome of the art after all
the difficulties I had creating it.
11. Audience Appeal
• Overall I think it is suitable for my target audience
and aimed at them. I think it aims at them quite well
because it’s a game that’s suitable for both genders
and doesn't’t cancel a gender out in anyway.
• I think the coin collecting parts within the game
appeal to the audience well, who are achievers and
the audience as a whole.
• In my proposal that age of the target audience was
16-19 and I think this game is suitable for that age
group and makes them want to interact with the
game when they have a break from studying and
college. I also thing this will be a fun game to play as
it’s a quick and simple game but can easily become
addictive especially those teens who like to play
something simple and on the go type of games which
I think mine fits into that category.
