2. Process • When making my example game I made the
environment and background first. This is so that when
making the features later on I have something to base
their design on. For example because I have made the
environment have a medieval sort of theme it will result
in my character and items in the game having the same
look to them, from that era or modern items but with a
medieval type of theme to it so that it suits the rest of
the game.
• When making the environment of my experimental
game I used the pen tool (1) layers (2) colour tool (3)
and opacity tool (4). I used the opacity tool to make
things in the environment look more detailed. For
example I made the hills in the background an opacity of
35 so that they look as if they are in the distance and
the world in the game looks a lot larger and interesting.
When I made the church I used a light grey colour to
represent that the church is made from stone while also
adding peace's of darker grey to represent cracks in the
church and to show that the church is old and worn.
1. Pen tool
2. Layers
3. Colour tool
4. Opacity tool
3. • In my experimental game I added different effects and
animations to the character and the environment for example
when my character encounters the ghost the grave under the
ground opens up and when the character is fighting the ghost
he has three different animations for when he's attacking. This
makes the game feel smoother when playing it and adds more
detail to the game. Which will overall make my game appeal
more to my target audience. To add this effect and detail I
made three separate layers with three different character
models and put them on different frames throughout the
creation of my game so that everything looks like one
movement and doesn’t look clunky.
• When designing my character for this game I made sure that
he has clothes that suit the medieval theme and have mainly
darker colours to go with the horror genre of the game. This is
why I chose to make my characters top a sort of dark purple
with a white shirt underneath It. However I have made the
items that the character uses (such as the sword) a brighter
colour so that it doesn’t blend in with the characters clothes or
body and looks like its something separate. I think this will
make my character look more appealing and will allow me to
add other features to the game such as the effect of being
disarmed by enemy's or colour coding different weapons that
the character has so that people know which is which.
4. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?- I will include the idea of
being able to see the effects of what my characters weapon does to make
the game more detailed and appealing. The idea of using the opacity to
make features in the background of the environment. Peace's of the
environment changing and having effects on the player such as the ghost
appearing out of the grave.
• Refer to the brief: Ghost Game- I think that my “ghost
game” is mostly an adventure and fighting sort of game rather then the
original idea I was going to have about giving the player choices however I
have still kept other ideas and was able to test them in this experiment
like the idea of finding items in the game and using them to help you go
through the rest of the game.
