The advert that my group and I produced was to advertise Nike trainers, we did this because
when discussing ideas at the start of the project we felt this was a product that we were
collectively interested in. Creating the final product included a range of processes and
activities that had to be conducted before, during and finally after the creating of the
project. In this report I will be evaluating the successes of our advert.
Format
Our advert is a lifestyle product because it is encouraging people to do exercise, also it
shows that the product improves performance meaning people are more would be likely to
purchase the product. Therefore, this would mean we met the criteria well as our advert fits
into the lifestyle category well. Also the advert is intended to increase the likeliness of
people completing sports activities which we think the advert has successfully done.
However as the advert shows how the product improves performance it could also be
counted as a product image advert which I fell we also met that category well.
Style
The style of our advert is realistic, this is because in our advert the trainers are made out to
improve performance but also make sports better. This was to improve the target audience
and overall widen our overall audience. This was also to attempt to make the advert more
memorable to viewers, this is because they may remember that Nike Improves performance
which could mean that when buying trainers, they may consider buying Nike Trainers.
Overall our advert shows that these Nike trainers improve people’s Lifestyle by them doing
more sports. This means that our advert has met the goal of achieving the realistic well. This
is because our advert doesn’t have to include any scene that couldn’t be recreated in real
life.
Codes and Conventions
The camera angles that we used were mainly; close up shots and medium shots along with a
few long shots. This was because we wanted to have a range of shots to add effect to the
audience; also we wanted to match the shots to scene as best as possible. Overall I think we
achieved this goal as our advert did include different types of shots, however it could have
included more for example an over the shoulder shot.
Within the editing of our advert we tried to keep it as realistic as possible using the majority
of the footage we collected, this was to match the realistic style. However this may have
decreased the overall quality of the advert meaning that if we were to do it again we could
film more and use only the best parts of the recording. Also we could potentially do with
some more experience when editing.
When filming the advert we decided to just use natural light as well as the sealing lights
within the sports hall. This meant that some of our filming didn’t have an appropriate
amount of lighting; this means that If we were to do it again we could use filming box lights.
In the advert we didn’t include any recorded sound, just putting music over the filming.
While this is quite basic, we felt this would make the advert less complicated and more
memorable. However we could include some speech at the end just to advertise the
product more, this could be an improvement.
Techniques
The technique used for our advert is Lifestyle fantasy; this is because we wanted to show
that Nike trainers improve performance, and therefore improving people lifestyle by
encouraging them to complete more sports activities. Overall I think that we have matched
this goal well as our advert clearly shows that Nike trainers improve performance, this
means that it can be counted as a lifestyle fantasy advert.
We used the song ‘Power’ by Kanye West, this was because we felt like the lyrics matched
up to the advert, giving people who use the trainer’s power and improving their overall
ability. Therefore I think that our choice of music was successful.
Characteristics of products or services
The main characteristic of our advert is that it showed a lifestyle, this is because the advert
shows how the trainers can improve performance increasing the chance of people
completing sporting activities. This means that they can improve their overall lifestyle by
becoming fitter. This means that the advert met this characteristic well.
Also we showed that the benefits of the product as we showed that the product improves
performance as well as the look of the trainers that people may prefer them to other
brands. This means that we have showed off the benefits of the product quite well.
However we could have shown more benefits of the product such as showing them agaist
competitors.
Regulation
Our advert meets all of the criteria set by Ofcom and the ASA, this means that the advert is
successful in this criteria. This is because the advert meets demands such as not being
offensive to viewers. This overall means that the advert is appropriate to be shown of TV or
online to all viewers.
Strengths
The main strengths of our project were;
 Detailed paper work- All of our paperwork included a lot of detail on how to
complete the set task, as well as being well structured meaning that the whole crew
was could understand the paper work when producing the advert.
 Met all of our deadlines- As a group we managed to meet all of our deadlines; this
was for both pre-production and also during the production of our advert. This
meant that all of the tasks were able to be completed on time and to the correct
standard, as well as having extra time to go back and edit any mistakes we had
previously made.
 The advert fits into the categories that we wanted it to such as lifestyle and realistic.-
Overall the advert meets the categories that we wanted it to which were lifestyle
and realistic. This was because we wanted to show how the product improved
people’s lifestyle which I think it did. Also the advert fits into the realistic category
well as all of the activities happening within the advert can be completed by all of
the viewers.
 I think we promoted the product well- This is because we gave a good image of the
product, as we showed it improves performance, but also that anyone can have Nike
trainers meaning that the advert gives Nike a diverse audience.
 Meeting budgets- When creating the advert one of our main goals was to meet the
budget. This was done by using all of the equipment we budgeted for as well as
meeting deadlines meaning we didn’t have any extra costs.
Weaknesses
 Sometimes organisation was poor- In some cases we were not fully organised as we
had to change filing dates because certain members of the group had changed plans
and were unavailable. This meant that the whole crew had to re-arrange. However
these dates only had to be changed once by a few days meaning that we still
managed to meet deadlines and the budget.
 Filming was rushed- This was because when we set the production schedule we only
set one day for filming, when setting two days would have been beneficial as the
filming wouldn’t have been rushed and also we could have recorded more.
 We didn’t have a lot of editing experience – When it came to editing we needed to
complete research on how to complete the process, this was because no member of
the group was experienced at editing, and this was a weakness of the project
because well feel the editing could have been to a higher standard.
 Difficulties gaining access to the location- We had some difficulties accessing the
location on the date of filming because we could only use the room when it wasn’t
booked for a lesson, this meant that we had a decreased period for filming which
lead to the filming being slightly rushed.
Conclusion
To conclude overall the project was a success in my opinion, this was because we met
targets such as dates and also the budget. This meant that the project was completed in the
time limit set which meant that we didn’t have any extra costs. This was down to a
successful pre-production as we successfully completed all of the relevant documents in
detail meaning that the actual production stage was not stressful as we knew what to do
and when to do it. This overall lead to a higher quality advert that advertised the product
well.
However if I was to complete the project again I would change the length of time given to
the filming part of the production, this was because we only had one day for filming
meaning it was rushed and we didn’t gather as much footage as we could. Also I would
change the editing part of the project as we were not experienced enough meaning that the
advert could have been higher quality if the editing was better. However overall the project
was a success and I think that we created a high quality advert.

Evaluation

  • 1. Evaluation The advert that my group and I produced was to advertise Nike trainers, we did this because when discussing ideas at the start of the project we felt this was a product that we were collectively interested in. Creating the final product included a range of processes and activities that had to be conducted before, during and finally after the creating of the project. In this report I will be evaluating the successes of our advert. Format Our advert is a lifestyle product because it is encouraging people to do exercise, also it shows that the product improves performance meaning people are more would be likely to purchase the product. Therefore, this would mean we met the criteria well as our advert fits into the lifestyle category well. Also the advert is intended to increase the likeliness of people completing sports activities which we think the advert has successfully done. However as the advert shows how the product improves performance it could also be counted as a product image advert which I fell we also met that category well. Style The style of our advert is realistic, this is because in our advert the trainers are made out to improve performance but also make sports better. This was to improve the target audience and overall widen our overall audience. This was also to attempt to make the advert more memorable to viewers, this is because they may remember that Nike Improves performance which could mean that when buying trainers, they may consider buying Nike Trainers. Overall our advert shows that these Nike trainers improve people’s Lifestyle by them doing more sports. This means that our advert has met the goal of achieving the realistic well. This is because our advert doesn’t have to include any scene that couldn’t be recreated in real life. Codes and Conventions The camera angles that we used were mainly; close up shots and medium shots along with a few long shots. This was because we wanted to have a range of shots to add effect to the audience; also we wanted to match the shots to scene as best as possible. Overall I think we achieved this goal as our advert did include different types of shots, however it could have included more for example an over the shoulder shot. Within the editing of our advert we tried to keep it as realistic as possible using the majority of the footage we collected, this was to match the realistic style. However this may have decreased the overall quality of the advert meaning that if we were to do it again we could film more and use only the best parts of the recording. Also we could potentially do with some more experience when editing.
  • 2. When filming the advert we decided to just use natural light as well as the sealing lights within the sports hall. This meant that some of our filming didn’t have an appropriate amount of lighting; this means that If we were to do it again we could use filming box lights. In the advert we didn’t include any recorded sound, just putting music over the filming. While this is quite basic, we felt this would make the advert less complicated and more memorable. However we could include some speech at the end just to advertise the product more, this could be an improvement. Techniques The technique used for our advert is Lifestyle fantasy; this is because we wanted to show that Nike trainers improve performance, and therefore improving people lifestyle by encouraging them to complete more sports activities. Overall I think that we have matched this goal well as our advert clearly shows that Nike trainers improve performance, this means that it can be counted as a lifestyle fantasy advert. We used the song ‘Power’ by Kanye West, this was because we felt like the lyrics matched up to the advert, giving people who use the trainer’s power and improving their overall ability. Therefore I think that our choice of music was successful. Characteristics of products or services The main characteristic of our advert is that it showed a lifestyle, this is because the advert shows how the trainers can improve performance increasing the chance of people completing sporting activities. This means that they can improve their overall lifestyle by becoming fitter. This means that the advert met this characteristic well. Also we showed that the benefits of the product as we showed that the product improves performance as well as the look of the trainers that people may prefer them to other brands. This means that we have showed off the benefits of the product quite well. However we could have shown more benefits of the product such as showing them agaist competitors. Regulation Our advert meets all of the criteria set by Ofcom and the ASA, this means that the advert is successful in this criteria. This is because the advert meets demands such as not being offensive to viewers. This overall means that the advert is appropriate to be shown of TV or online to all viewers.
  • 3. Strengths The main strengths of our project were;  Detailed paper work- All of our paperwork included a lot of detail on how to complete the set task, as well as being well structured meaning that the whole crew was could understand the paper work when producing the advert.  Met all of our deadlines- As a group we managed to meet all of our deadlines; this was for both pre-production and also during the production of our advert. This meant that all of the tasks were able to be completed on time and to the correct standard, as well as having extra time to go back and edit any mistakes we had previously made.  The advert fits into the categories that we wanted it to such as lifestyle and realistic.- Overall the advert meets the categories that we wanted it to which were lifestyle and realistic. This was because we wanted to show how the product improved people’s lifestyle which I think it did. Also the advert fits into the realistic category well as all of the activities happening within the advert can be completed by all of the viewers.  I think we promoted the product well- This is because we gave a good image of the product, as we showed it improves performance, but also that anyone can have Nike trainers meaning that the advert gives Nike a diverse audience.  Meeting budgets- When creating the advert one of our main goals was to meet the budget. This was done by using all of the equipment we budgeted for as well as meeting deadlines meaning we didn’t have any extra costs. Weaknesses  Sometimes organisation was poor- In some cases we were not fully organised as we had to change filing dates because certain members of the group had changed plans and were unavailable. This meant that the whole crew had to re-arrange. However these dates only had to be changed once by a few days meaning that we still managed to meet deadlines and the budget.  Filming was rushed- This was because when we set the production schedule we only set one day for filming, when setting two days would have been beneficial as the filming wouldn’t have been rushed and also we could have recorded more.  We didn’t have a lot of editing experience – When it came to editing we needed to complete research on how to complete the process, this was because no member of the group was experienced at editing, and this was a weakness of the project because well feel the editing could have been to a higher standard.  Difficulties gaining access to the location- We had some difficulties accessing the location on the date of filming because we could only use the room when it wasn’t booked for a lesson, this meant that we had a decreased period for filming which lead to the filming being slightly rushed.
  • 4. Conclusion To conclude overall the project was a success in my opinion, this was because we met targets such as dates and also the budget. This meant that the project was completed in the time limit set which meant that we didn’t have any extra costs. This was down to a successful pre-production as we successfully completed all of the relevant documents in detail meaning that the actual production stage was not stressful as we knew what to do and when to do it. This overall lead to a higher quality advert that advertised the product well. However if I was to complete the project again I would change the length of time given to the filming part of the production, this was because we only had one day for filming meaning it was rushed and we didn’t gather as much footage as we could. Also I would change the editing part of the project as we were not experienced enough meaning that the advert could have been higher quality if the editing was better. However overall the project was a success and I think that we created a high quality advert.
