Tuckman s Model
Introduction
50 years have passed since the Tuckman s classical model of Small Group Development was
presented to the world. According to Miller (2003, cited by Bonebright, 2010, p. 111), Tuckman s
model has become the most predominantly referred to and most widely recognized in organizational
literature . Established by Bruce W. Tuckman in 1965 and reconsidered by Tuckman and Jensen in
1977, the model represents the well known phases of team development: forming, storming, norming,
performing, and adjourning.
Most of the highly qualified specialists who work as a third party in the resolution of conflicts,
building peace and ending or prevention the conflicts in already formed organizations, often
themselves belong to a particular organizational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McMorris, Gottleib, and Sneden stated that one of the strengths of the Tuckman model is its ease of
use at the practitioner level, noting its practical perspective and common sense approach (McMorris,
Gottleib, Sneden, 2005 cited by Bonebright, 2010, p. 118). First, recent theories recognize the
complexity of group dynamics in today s world and are not easily represented in a simple model.
Second, the wide body of literature on organizational and workplace issues means that practitioners
have access to information about many specialized areas of group development such as leadership,
motivation and rewards. These theories are broader and deeper than Tuckman s original model. They
provide detailed discussion of many aspects of group dynamics from forming through

detective Hal Slocumb, and the setting, Utah. Symbolism helps us understand the idea of freedom, and
change in character, deeply between Thelma and Louise. Ridley Scott uses the symbolism of Louise s
costume to develop the idea of change. In a close up, we see Louise giving up her expensive items,
such as earrings and necklaces, to a man in return for a hat. Generally, a woman almost never gives

The source addresses many issue and aspects of the adoption triad and process in an alphabetical order

importance. The adult adopted person section discusses the psychological adjustment for an adoptee
once they reach adulthood. It concludes that, depending on the age of adoption, will determine the
effects on the adoptee. Of those that were adopted at birth, women suffered from less effects of the

(2014). Adopted children and stepchildren: 2010. Washington, DC: U.S. Department of Commerce.
This report details the 2010 census, which was the first to determine the relationship of the children
that reside in a household. The report shows a table that separates children by adopted children,
stepchildren, and biological children and then by the age groups of under six, six to eleven, twelve to
seventeen, and eighteen and under. It shows that, with the exception of biological children, most age
groups are at a fairly even percentage between adopted, step children living in any given household.
I intend to use this table to show that adopted children are represented at the same level as any other
child in the United States and deserve the same rights as a non adopted child. Keeping the adoptees
records sealed from them does affect a large percentage of children and denying them the information
that they should be entitled to as an adult for any reason they chose to want their information, whether
it be medical or just curiosity.

Bp Management and Strategies Research Paper
British Petroleum and Recommendations for Improvement and Success
Abstract
This paper will look at British Petroleum, BP, one of the largest oil companies in the world. Following
the Gulf Oil Spill does BP have sustainability in this market? This paper will examine the early history
of the company. It will look at the competitive advantages of the organization by looking at its SWOT
analysis. The company s market strategy will be examined including its growing interest into
alternative fuels. Its internal structure will be compared to the persona that BP is trying to convey that
they are a globally friendly company with interests in developing low and no carbon emission fuels.

BP has several weaknesses. Currently they are holding a large percentage of liability. Some of that
liability is due to the Gulf oil spill and the other is tied in the uncertain and sure to fail dealings to get
a foothold in the Russian oil market. Additionally, the Gulf oil spill has marred the reputation of BP to
the United States, BP s largest customer. This has resulted in dwindling sales and halts to new drilling
within the US and its waters. BP also has had a track record for cutting costs that have resulted in two
other large accidental spills only five years ealier. In 2005, a refinery in Texas caught fire and in 2006
a section of the Alaskan pipeline burst (Bryant, 2010). These events showed neglect on the part of BP
and lead to the record sized fine imposed on them.
In regards to opportunities, we see a progressive increase in the price of oil. Although there is an
obvious fluctuation in the price of oil from day to day, the overall trend is a defined increase in the
price of oil. There are also new deposits being discovered. BP has shown through historical experience
that they are willing to take great risks to achieve results. Some may have not gone as planned, but
they have the drive to at least attempt. There current PR state is also open to opportunity. The public
relation state of BP, especially in the United States, is at some of its lowest levels in history. This was
also listed as a current weakness, but BP has

Stereotypes In Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman is a rags to riches romantic comedy directed by Gary Marshall in 1990. It is a dark
warning tale about class and sex work in Los Angeles. The story centers on down on her luck
Hollywood prostitute Vivian Ward who is portrayed by Julia Roberts, who is hired by Edward Lewis,
portrayed by Richard Gere, a wealthy businessman who wants Vivian to be his escort for various
social upper class events and businesses and their emerging relationship during her stay with him.
The characters in the film goes as follows:
Edward Lewis, a rich corporate businessman and womanizer from New York. He is shown to be
assertive, prideful and egoistic man. Portrayed by Richard Gere.
Vivian Ward, a pretty woman who is a lady of the evening with a heart of gold but also independent
and assertive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie discusses till what extent does the depiction of sex and sexuality are acceptable in social
hierarchy. Vivian s empowerment is seen when she first steps in the car with Edward when he does not
have the enough knowledge about cars whereas Vivian does. Driving is stereotypically seen as an
masculine activity, hence this scene portrays an amazing reversal of gender roles. It is also seen how
Edward is taken a back by Vivian s confidence and independence, not traits stereotypically associated
with prostitutes. Pretty Woman
Questions the tolerance of modern society to display of sexuality, drawing parallels between sex and
power. Throughout the film, parallels are shown between Edward and Vivian s work despite the fact
that they are polar opposite social classes.

The Harms and Ill Effects of Slavery
Slavery has had a huge impact throughout the world for many years . It started in the 1600s in north
america and still continues in other countries today such as pakistan and mostly in india sudan and
africa. Even though its still going on it was worse back then. When people think of slavery so many
negative thoughts are all we can think of. It can be described in so many words like immoral, abusive,
no freedom and racism. There were also many ways in which people dealt with slavery and it caused
harm and affected lots of people throughout history. 1. Slavery began when african Americans were
brought to the north american colony of jamestown, Virginia in 1619. They were shipped to north
america as slaves. They set up a settlement , some men built homes and some died the first year of
sickness and hunger. John smith was a captain that took control over the slaves in jamestown he made
a rule that stated If a man did not work he did not eat . They colony then started to become successful.
Plantations slaves in the 1800s were called field hands their jobs were to plant and pick cotton out of
all slaves they had to work the longest from morning to night time. House slaves worked and servants
and did jobs like laundry and cooking. Some slaves became craft workers which were carpenters or
cabinetmakers some also worked in factories. 2.after working some people treated the slaves well by

Overcoming Adversity
I used to think that I was all that. In elementary school and middle school I didn t have to work hard
and was able to get good grades without putting forth a lot of effort. My personal philosophy was that
if I worked hard in class during the school day, then when I got home from school, my time should be
my own. I had been successful following this belief system for years, and then, I enrolled in AP World
History (APWH) in the tenth grade. My experiences in APWH changed my entire outlook on my role
as a student and caused me to reevaluate my perspective on the things that were important to me. I had
heard that APWH was going to require a lot of work, but I was sure that it would be no different than

It became obvious that he didn t care about me as a student. He only cared about me as an athlete
whose skills could help his team. By the mid term point of Fall semester, I was depressed and ready to
give up. I was disappointed in myself because I was still failing despite dropping out of football. My
parents refused to let me succumb to the poor me syndrome. This was the time to show my strength of
character. I needed to prove to myself that I could overcome this obstacle. I prayed to God to give me
guidance on how to get back on track. I started staying up later to do the reading. I paid more attention
in class. I joined a study group. As I put forth more of an effort, my grade slowly began to improve.
By the end of the fall semester, I had raised my F to a D . I kept my focus during the spring semester. I
ended the year with a 77% in the class. Although I didn t receive an A or a B, I received something
more valuable: self respect and self esteem. I learned that I must always do what is in my best interest
even if there are others who tell me that I am making wrong decisions. My work ethic is now the
complete opposite of what it was in my 10th grade year. I have learned many life lessons: I take my

Racial Disparities In Policing
Racial Disparities in Policing
Racial profiling, stereotyping, and different styles of policing has led to the disproportionate targeting
of minorities by law enforcement agencies. Warren et al. (2006) notes that law enforcement often use
two forms of racial profiling. One is defined by Warren et al. (2006) as out of place profiling. This
particular form of racial profiling targets an individual if they do not match the general make up of a
certain community. Another method of racial profiling Warren et al. (2006) explains is drug
interdiction profiles, which encourage officers to target drug traffickers using their racial background
to make traffic stops and search their vehicles for contraband. Furthermore, Terrill and Reisig (2003)

Digestive System Of The Digestive System
Digestive System After dissecting the rat, we learned that the rat s body has many complex systems.
To begin, the digestive system contains a group of organs that work together to convert food taken in
from the body and converts it to energy and basic nutrients to feed the cells in the body. The digestive
system includes the mouth, pyloric valve or sphincter, caecum, small intestine, colon (large intestine),
duodenum, retrum, and stomach. The salivary glands, liver, and pancreas are glands that are laid
outside of the digestive system, but they are associated with contributing to the system s function. The
mouth processes the food so that it is easier to swallow. From the mouth, it moves to the back of the
mouth.
Pharynx
The pharynx is where the food moves into from the back of the mouth. It is separated into three
pathways. The nasopharynx is a pathway for only air, the oropharynx is a pathway for food and air,
and the laryngopharynx is where both food and air pass by penetrating through the nose.
Esophagus
After successfully passing through the pharynx, it moves to the esophagus. The esophagus links
together the stomach and the pharynx so when food is consumed by the organism, it moves into the
stomach.
Stomach
The stomach muscles work together to break down food so part of digestion takes place here. It also
produces acids (hydrochloric acid) and enzymes (pepsin) and mucus which work together to break
down proteins. The stomach also functions to portion food into

Plasma Membrane Lab Report
The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane
Introduction
The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane
Introduction
The fluid mosaic model developed by S.J Singer and Garth Nicolson in 1972 explains the structure of
the membrane. It shows this through the explanation of the phospholipid bilayer which contains
hydrophobic tails and a hydrophilic heads as well as the peripheral and integral proteins which help to
hold the structure. The fluid mosaic model also says how the membrane is in a fluid form rather than
solid because of the constant movement within the membrane (Biology Online, 2008).
The cell membrane is a semi permeable protective layer which protects the cell from the outside
environment by only allowing in and out of the cell only what is needed in order to survive. The cells
that make up the red beetroot contain a compound called betacyanin which is the cause for the red
pigment of the beetroot (Carter Edwards, 2011). The betacyanin is found within the vacuoles of the
cell and is soluble in water (Cellular membrane structure and function, n.d.). The proteins within the
membrane of the cell denature when subjected to high temperatures which causes the membrane to
break apart allowing the betacyanin within the cell to release causing a red pigment to release from the
beetroot. The higher the temperature and the longer at which the beetroot is exposed to it, causes more
pigment to release ( Beetroot Cell

Advantages Of Open Lunch
When an argument is in the happening, it is always important to listen to, and understand both sides to
the story. Such as how seniors, or even students in high school would like to have open lunch instead
of having to stay in school during lunch hours. The administration is not allowing this to happen, for
they believe they cannot trust the students enough. The reason they think they cannot trust the students
is because of students breaking their trust in different matters. This has caused other students the
inability to be given a chance at gaining a teacher, or even the administrations trust. But if the
administration would look at this from the student s point of view, they could possibly see why
students are upset by not having an open lunch hour. The administration seems to think that all
students will act the same if given the privilege of an open lunch hour. But this is because they aren t
looking at this from a student s point of view. Many students are well behaved in school, and deserve
trust from teachers and such. If those students aren t allowed an open lunch hour, because of some
irresponsible student actions, then you could see why that could be irritating to the well behaved
students. Also if the schools lunch isn t something that the student wants to eat that day, the student
should be able to go out and eat, because lunch is a very important meal. I know that if I don t eat a
good breakfast, and I come to school I can t really concentrate on working

Descriptive Essay About A Song
One day during my sophomore year of high school while I was waiting for my class to start, I decided
to explore new genres of music and artists that I haven t listened to before. I was sitting on the floor
outside of my classroom searching through Spotify for something new and exciting. After looking
through the Classic Rock section on Spotify, I came across the band Queen. Since that moment, I have
been and avid Queen listener and have listened to all their songs. I have been particularly fond of their
albums The Game, The Miracle and Night at the Opera.
The first Queen song I heard was Bohemian Rhapsody from the album Night at the Opera. It was
around 7:45 am, the morning was very still and quiet and the sky was clear. My surroundings became
increasingly louder as the school day was about to begin and it was a cool morning unlike the typical
Floridian morning weather. After scrolling through various Queen songs on Spotify, I stumbled upon
as song I have heard about through friends but not listened to: Bohemian Rhapsody. Just like the eerily
still morning, the exposition of the song was smooth and relaxed. The beginning of the song sounded
like there were many voices in harmony and the hazy, smooth timbre resonated in my ear buds. The
lyrics of the song matched with the eerie quality of the voices, the lyrics indicate that the singers are in
some state of confusion and are unclear of their surroundings. The singers hold the last word of each

Masculinity In Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is a classic American movie that attempts to subvert the hegemon of American
masculinity. In Gump s simplified southern world, gender roles and expectations are very cut and dry,
Gump attempts to turn the patriarchy on its head through the relationships he makes, but still falls
victim to masculine expectations. Gump challenges our idea of masculinity by respecting people of
various backgrounds and races, falling in love with Jenny, and becoming a respected solider of the
United States Army. White men in the Jim Crow south were expected to have prejudices, and react
violently when someone does not fall on line these expectations. Gump and Bubba have an unusual
relationship for the time period of the movie. While the Vietnam War occurred after the ruling of
Brown v. Board of Education and the outlawing of segregation, many people, specifically white
southern men, still held prejudiced views. Bubba and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

effectively articulate thoughts and ideas into our writing pieces. Improving my writing capability has
been one of the most gratifying accomplishment because I have always been one to feel insecure

details include the intended benefits, features, bundled services, warrantees, and any other support

approach allows the company to make profits when costs are somewhat variable. (Tanner, 2015, p.

To Preach or Not to Preach
The King James version bible states in Genesis 1:26 27 that Gods image is shared equally by women
and men . Exodus 36:1 says, use your skills to honor God . Despite what the bible seems to be saying,
women do not have the same opportunities as men in Christian religious settings. Imagine a woman in
the Christian faith who has the qualifications to preach the word of God and the eagerness to serve the
Lord. Logically, she should be awarded the job position. However, she is not even considered for that
opportunity. In multiple recurring instances, the church congregation has discriminated against
women, not allowing them to have the same opportunities as the men in the community. These women
are not only discriminated against, but are scoffed at, even penalized for wanting these positions.
Women should not be penalized for having faith in the Lord and wanting to share it with others. The
bible states how both women and men are equal and are to use the skills they have to honor God. The
congregation should not limit these human resources to only men, when highly qualified and respected
women are willing and able to serve. Gender discrimination is a problem in Christian Churches
because women who are qualified are unable to access jobs, are experiencing emotional stress, and are
being penalized for wanting changes within the church.
Historically, the bible has multiple

A Study On Mythical Creatures
It turned into a cold and rainy day in my hometown of Autumn Burrow. It s the place where everyone
works day and night, and where I find fascinating creatures in the deep forests in this town. I study
these creatures for a living, as it is my day job and I have nothing else to do. A huge majority of
people who live in Autumn Burrow think I m a madman, but I take my studies seriously. I ve been
investigating and researching on mythical creatures since I was 13 years old. I became a young
prodigy, and surpassed all subjects and gained great knowledge. However, I haven t been able to use
that knowledge until years later. As I quitted working a University for a year, and went back to
researching weird creatures that were rumored to live in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then as I walked even further more, I manage to find a little ghost like creature lying to a tree with
dead leaves. The tiny creature looked like he was crying, as tears are running down out of his sorrow
eyes. It didn t really seem like it was talking much, but I wanted to get the little guy s attention.
Hello. Are you lost? What s wrong, are you ok? I spoke to it as the creature as the creature took notice
of my presence. The small shadow began look up at me, as it then noticed my presence.
A are you a monster? You look s s scary. It said as it was too frightened to even look at my face.
It was then that I knew I became fascinated with the tiny, shadow creature. I never saw anything like a
living shadow, but I have discovered stranger things before. In any case, I decide to pick up the petite
wisp, and let it follow me on my expedition through the evergreen forest. Thus far, Little Wisp, as I
decide to call my shadow friend, went on to help me navigate dangerous parts of the forest. After
walking for quite sometime, I then trip over from a small
indent in the ground. I fall face first into the dirt, as I felt a little dizzy. Brown lumps of earth covered
my face, as the eerie, dark atmosphere already made me feel worse. Trying to get up off from the
forest surface, I immediately turn to the sight of anther shadow monster looking down at me with a
fearsome look. His white, soulless eyes and his hunched over back gave him a sense of intimidation. It

Every year the dance program puts on a fall and spring concert. The dance program has two different
companies called Meredith Dance Theatre and Meredith Jazz and Tap Company. On Friday and
Saturday, November 18th and 19th, I got the pleasure of stage managing for the modern dance
company at Meredith, MDT. As a stage manager, it allows me to see the show every night, but also
attend rehearsals and techs in preparation for the show. As a stage manager I am in charge of calling
all the cues for the show, calling lights, curtain and sending dancer to places through a headset from
the front of house. The show on Friday began at 7:30 pm. It had several pieces choreographed by
students and three pieces choreographed by either faculty or adjuncts.

The Matrix (1999) is a Sci Fi action film created by the Wachowski Brothers to present life in an
absent minded dream world based on our solar system and a so called real world which is set on a
planet known as Zion . Artificial Intelligence is the use of Computer System(s) to imitate tasks which
human beings undertake. The Matrix (1999) depicts Artificial Intelligence in a unique sort of way;
representing it in a flexible manner, showing what it can do to society. Generally speaking; this essay
will show how the use of warnings to intimidate someone to get what you want, the conflicts between
human and machine and the way to act upon to get the results you want is all presented by Artificial
Intelligence in the Matrix .
Threats is the use or act to frighten or terrorise; this is shown by Artificial Intelligence throughout The
Matrix . The audience of the film believes that Agent Smith is the main antagonist in the story and is
Artificial Intelligence since he is created to make human like decisions. In addition; The Matrix
presents Agent Smith making threatening remarks to Morpheus; trying to force him into giving the

INTRODUCTION LITERATURE REVIEW The current economic crisis has become a major concern
of all nations today. It has led policymakers and economists to rethink about the instrument for
economics stability. One of the most damaging consequences of this crisis is the consumption
instability, which negatively affects risk adverse agents welfare. As mentioned by Athahasoulis and

detrimental consequences for the accumulation of human capital and physical capital. Therefore, the

added by all resident producers plus any product taxes (less subsidies) not included in the valuation of
output plus net receipts of primary income (compensation of employees and property income) from
abroad. In this model, we want to observe if gross national income per capita has a significant effect
on total private domestic consumption as a percentage of GDP. If gross national income per capita
increases, total private domestic consumption as a percentage of GDP is expected to increase because
a rise in income encourages households to spend and consume more. Thus, β3 is expected to be
positive. The data for this variable were obtained from this site

(measured in %). Inflation rate, as measured by the consumer price index, reflects the annual
percentage change in the cost to the average consumer of acquiring a basket of goods and services that
may be fixed or changed at specified intervals, such as yearly (as employed in this research paper). In
this model, we want to observe if annual inflation rate has a significant effect on total private domestic

How Did Roman Architecture Influence Architecture
It s inconvertible that Roman s legacy can still be felt nowadays in our daily lives and it had an
elegance impact on modern buildings. Romans took architecture to a greater level by creating lots of
masterworks that the purpose from them was to solve problems. Actually, their creativity in solving
particular problems inspired and it s still inspiring modern society. They started with constructing

Finally, the social ramifications of corporate media control contradict the culture of democratic
institutions in American culture and society. This has become a major issue in the clash between
government regulators and the corporate institutions that are continuing to consolidate into larger, and
more powerful companies in the 21st century. In this manner, the regulation of corporate media
organizations tends to deny the existence of democracy in the U.S., which continually makes claims
about the freedom of expression and diversity of its populations. This is also true of the reduction of
government regulation, which continues to allow the consolidation of corporate media into a small
group of transnational corporate owners. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These articles define a collective view of the dangers of corporate monopolistic control of the media
for TV programming, which continues to break down diversity and democratic practices in the
modern era. The issue of corporate consolidation of media organizations tends to create a capitalistic
system of profit that expresses the views of a small minority of owners in the industry. More so, the
democratic institutions of government tend to allow the deregulation of viewer content, which defines
the marginalization of racial, ethnic, gender, and other social aspects of American life in favor of a
white hegemonic worldview. TV programming can no longer be defined as a competitive marketplace
in which corporations can provide diverse content for American audiences, since the government
refuses to enforce a ban on monopolies. In this manner, the overarching system of capitalism defines a
for profit system of corporate dominance that is refusing to control its depictions o violence, racism,
bigotry, and other elements of American society that are not democratic in nature. These are the
important aspects of these articles that define a synthesis of various democratic and diversified views
of the corporate monopoly culture of American media that has become so problematic in the

The Thousand And One Night Essay
A Historical Criticism on The Thousand and One Night The Thousand and One Nights has an ever
changing influence on the cultures around the world bring us tales of some of the most famous
characters such as Aladdin, Ali baba, Sinbad and many more. No one really know what the origins of
the text are from but most people assume it is possibly an Arab text or a Persian text. I ll be discussing
about how no one really knows that the origins of the text is or what the original work looked like.
Also explaining how people around the world have interpreted the text over the years and how it has
influenced cultures around the world over the centuries. So let s begin talking about the theories of the
origin of the text and the common assumptions about it. The intriguing tale of The Thousand and One
Nights is considered a collection of stories written by various unknown authors over the centuries. The
first known document bearing evidence of these tales was a single paper of very rare paper from Syria
that dated back to 879 C.E. ( The Thousand and One Nights, 553). Throughout the centuries more was
found about the tales and more was added to the work, including the Arabian title for the tales Alf
Layla Wa Layla or The Thousand and One Nights. Overall most people assume that the stories
originated from the Arabian or Persian culture since the stories seem to be influenced by Middle
Eastern qualities. In the paper East Meets West Bottigheimer points out how that the Thousand

saw the family falling apart and that their feelings of resentment for one another, and general
discouragement in their lives, was an effect from living like sardines in their tiny dreary apartment.
Walter, however, did not see it this way and felt nobody would listen to what he wanted. He wanted

idea of how to do it. As he tries to explain to his mother, Sometimes I can see the future stretched out

an investment in a house in the middle of a white neighborhood but is unable to convince Walter of it.

ecumenical, doctrinal, social and moral aspects and as a result his contributions have shaped
Christianity and his ongoing legacy impacts on the lives of Christian adherents on a global scale.

  • 2. Tuckman s Model Introduction 50 years have passed since the Tuckman s classical model of Small Group Development was presented to the world. According to Miller (2003, cited by Bonebright, 2010, p. 111), Tuckman s model has become the most predominantly referred to and most widely recognized in organizational literature . Established by Bruce W. Tuckman in 1965 and reconsidered by Tuckman and Jensen in 1977, the model represents the well known phases of team development: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. Most of the highly qualified specialists who work as a third party in the resolution of conflicts, building peace and ending or prevention the conflicts in already formed organizations, often themselves belong to a particular organizational ... McMorris, Gottleib, and Sneden stated that one of the strengths of the Tuckman model is its ease of use at the practitioner level, noting its practical perspective and common sense approach (McMorris, Gottleib, Sneden, 2005 cited by Bonebright, 2010, p. 118). First, recent theories recognize the complexity of group dynamics in today s world and are not easily represented in a simple model. Second, the wide body of literature on organizational and workplace issues means that practitioners have access to information about many specialized areas of group development such as leadership, motivation and rewards. These theories are broader and deeper than Tuckman s original model. They provide detailed discussion of many aspects of group dynamics from forming through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The report shows a table that separates children by adopted children, stepchildren, and biological children and then by the age groups of under six, six to eleven, twelve to seventeen, and eighteen and under. It shows that, with the exception of biological children, most age groups are at a fairly even percentage between adopted, step children living in any given household. I intend to use this table to show that adopted children are represented at the same level as any other child in the United States and deserve the same rights as a non adopted child. Keeping the adoptees records sealed from them does affect a large percentage of children and denying them the information that they should be entitled to as an adult for any reason they chose to want their information, whether it be medical or just curiosity. Some of that liability is due to the Gulf oil spill and the other is tied in the uncertain and sure to fail dealings to get a foothold in the Russian oil market. Additionally, the Gulf oil spill has marred the reputation of BP to the United States, BP s largest customer. This has resulted in dwindling sales and halts to new drilling within the US and its waters. BP also has had a track record for cutting costs that have resulted in two other large accidental spills only five years ealier. In 2005, a refinery in Texas caught fire and in 2006 a section of the Alaskan pipeline burst (Bryant, 2010). These events showed neglect on the part of BP and lead to the record sized fine imposed on them. In regards to opportunities, we see a progressive increase in the price of oil. Although there is an obvious fluctuation in the price of oil from day to day, the overall trend is a defined increase in the price of oil. There are also new deposits being discovered. • 9. The Harms and Ill Effects of Slavery Slavery has had a huge impact throughout the world for many years . It started in the 1600s in north america and still continues in other countries today such as pakistan and mostly in india sudan and africa. Even though its still going on it was worse back then. When people think of slavery so many negative thoughts are all we can think of. It can be described in so many words like immoral, abusive, no freedom and racism. • 10. Overcoming Adversity I used to think that I was all that. In elementary school and middle school I didn t have to work hard and was able to get good grades without putting forth a lot of effort. My personal philosophy was that if I worked hard in class during the school day, then when I got home from school, my time should be my own. I had been successful following this belief system for years, and then, I enrolled in AP World History (APWH) in the tenth grade. My experiences in APWH changed my entire outlook on my role as a student and caused me to reevaluate my perspective on the things that were important to me. I had heard that APWH was going to require a lot of work, but I was sure that it would be no different than any other honors level class that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It became obvious that he didn t care about me as a student. He only cared about me as an athlete whose skills could help his team. By the mid term point of Fall semester, I was depressed and ready to give up. I was disappointed in myself because I was still failing despite dropping out of football. My parents refused to let me succumb to the poor me syndrome. This was the time to show my strength of character. I needed to prove to myself that I could overcome this obstacle. I prayed to God to give me guidance on how to get back on track. I started staying up later to do the reading. I paid more attention in class. I joined a study group. As I put forth more of an effort, my grade slowly began to improve. By the end of the fall semester, I had raised my F to a D . I kept my focus during the spring semester. I ended the year with a 77% in the class. Although I didn t receive an A or a B, I received something more valuable: self respect and self esteem. I learned that I must always do what is in my best interest even if there are others who tell me that I am making wrong decisions. My work ethic is now the complete opposite of what it was in my 10th grade year. I have learned many life lessons: I take my studies seriously, I know that I am capable of being successful in college level classes, and most importantly, I have learned the value of hard work and ... Racial Disparities In Policing Racial Disparities in Policing Racial profiling, stereotyping, and different styles of policing has led to the disproportionate targeting of minorities by law enforcement agencies. Warren et al. (2006) notes that law enforcement often use two forms of racial profiling. One is defined by Warren et al. (2006) as out of place profiling. This particular form of racial profiling targets an individual if they do not match the general make up of a certain community. Another method of racial profiling Warren et al. • 12. Digestive System Of The Digestive System Digestive System After dissecting the rat, we learned that the rat s body has many complex systems. To begin, the digestive system contains a group of organs that work together to convert food taken in from the body and converts it to energy and basic nutrients to feed the cells in the body. The digestive system includes the mouth, pyloric valve or sphincter, caecum, small intestine, colon (large intestine), duodenum, retrum, and stomach. The salivary glands, liver, and pancreas are glands that are laid outside of the digestive system, but they are associated with contributing to the system s function. The mouth processes the food so that it is easier to swallow. From the mouth, it moves to the back of the mouth. Pharynx The pharynx is where the food moves into from the back of the mouth. It is separated into three pathways. The nasopharynx is a pathway for only air, the oropharynx is a pathway for food and air, and the laryngopharynx is where both food and air pass by penetrating through the nose. Esophagus After successfully passing through the pharynx, it moves to the esophagus. The esophagus links together the stomach and the pharynx so when food is consumed by the organism, it moves into the stomach. Stomach The stomach muscles work together to break down food so part of digestion takes place here. It also produces acids (hydrochloric acid) and enzymes (pepsin) and mucus which work together to break down proteins. The stomach also functions to portion food into ... • 13. Plasma Membrane Lab Report The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane Introduction The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane Introduction The fluid mosaic model developed by S.J Singer and Garth Nicolson in 1972 explains the structure of the membrane. It shows this through the explanation of the phospholipid bilayer which contains hydrophobic tails and a hydrophilic heads as well as the peripheral and integral proteins which help to hold the structure. The fluid mosaic model also says how the membrane is in a fluid form rather than solid because of the constant movement within the membrane (Biology Online, 2008). The cell membrane is a semi permeable protective layer which protects the cell from the outside environment by only allowing in and out of the cell only what is needed in order to survive. The cells that make up the red beetroot contain a compound called betacyanin which is the cause for the red pigment of the beetroot (Carter Edwards, 2011). The betacyanin is found within the vacuoles of the cell and is soluble in water (Cellular membrane structure and function, n.d.). • 14. Advantages Of Open Lunch When an argument is in the happening, it is always important to listen to, and understand both sides to the story. Such as how seniors, or even students in high school would like to have open lunch instead of having to stay in school during lunch hours. The administration is not allowing this to happen, for they believe they cannot trust the students enough. The reason they think they cannot trust the students is because of students breaking their trust in different matters. This has caused other students the inability to be given a chance at gaining a teacher, or even the administrations trust. But if the administration would look at this from the student s point of view, they could possibly see why students are upset by not having an open lunch hour. The administration seems to think that all students will act the same if given the privilege of an open lunch hour. But this is because they aren t looking at this from a student s point of view. Many students are well behaved in school, and deserve trust from teachers and such. If those students aren t allowed an open lunch hour, because of some irresponsible student actions, then you could see why that could be irritating to the well behaved students. Also if the schools lunch isn t something that the student wants to eat that day, the student should be able to go out and eat, because lunch is a very important meal. I was sitting on the floor outside of my classroom searching through Spotify for something new and exciting. After looking through the Classic Rock section on Spotify, I came across the band Queen. Since that moment, I have been and avid Queen listener and have listened to all their songs. I have been particularly fond of their albums The Game, The Miracle and Night at the Opera. The first Queen song I heard was Bohemian Rhapsody from the album Night at the Opera. It was around 7:45 am, the morning was very still and quiet and the sky was clear. My surroundings became increasingly louder as the school day was about to begin and it was a cool morning unlike the typical Floridian morning weather. After scrolling through various Queen songs on Spotify, I stumbled upon as song I have heard about through friends but not listened to: Bohemian Rhapsody. Just like the eerily still morning, the exposition of the song was smooth and relaxed. The beginning of the song sounded like there were many voices in harmony and the hazy, smooth timbre resonated in my ear buds. The lyrics of the song matched with the eerie quality of the voices, the lyrics indicate that the singers are in some state of confusion and are unclear of their surroundings. In Gump s simplified southern world, gender roles and expectations are very cut and dry, Gump attempts to turn the patriarchy on its head through the relationships he makes, but still falls victim to masculine expectations. Exodus 36:1 says, use your skills to honor God . Despite what the bible seems to be saying, women do not have the same opportunities as men in Christian religious settings. Imagine a woman in the Christian faith who has the qualifications to preach the word of God and the eagerness to serve the Lord. Logically, she should be awarded the job position. However, she is not even considered for that opportunity. In multiple recurring instances, the church congregation has discriminated against women, not allowing them to have the same opportunities as the men in the community. These women are not only discriminated against, but are scoffed at, even penalized for wanting these positions. Women should not be penalized for having faith in the Lord and wanting to share it with others. The bible states how both women and men are equal and are to use the skills they have to honor God. The congregation should not limit these human resources to only men, when highly qualified and respected women are willing and able to serve. Gender discrimination is a problem in Christian Churches because women who are qualified are unable to access jobs, are experiencing emotional stress, and are being penalized for wanting changes within the church.
