Fight Club Thesis
Fight Club, by Chuck Palahniuk published in 1996, is a book about a man, the Narrator, that
develops insomnia. He tried curing his insomnia by going to support groups, and that s where he
met a girl named Marla. At first the two didn t get along, but in the end they became friends. He
eventually meets a man named Tyler and the two become quick friends and after an incident
with the Narrator s condo the two end up moving in together. They go to a bar and get into a
fight and from this start a club where men could come and fight, they called it Fight Club. From
this Tyler created a group called Project Mayhem, it s goal was to destroy society so that it could
rebuild itself. When the Narrator found this out he went on a mission, with Marla, to

James Earl Ray Court Case
Catastrophically, the assassination of Doctor Martin Luther King was devastating. The
prosecution built their theory that James Earl Ray was a racist. Luckily, James Earl Ray pled
guilty to the murder, so there would be no trial. On April 4, 1968, Doctor King was fatally
wounded by a single shot in Memphis, Tennessee while standing on the balcony of his second
story hotel. Subsequently, that evening a Remington .30 06 hunting rifle was found one block
away from the Lorraine Motel. Over the next several weeks the prosecution was building their
case, which consisted of the rifle, eyewitness reports, and fingerprints on the rifle all pointed to a
single assailant, James Earl Ray. Furthermore, James Earl Ray was an escaped convict that was on

The Success of the New Deal in Solving the Problems Caused by the Great Depression
Introduction In the late 1920 s and early 1930 s the whole of America was in a deep depression and
was in desperate need of help. When Franklin D Roosevelt was elected president of USA he came
up with the plan of the new deal this was a planned guideline to regenerate money and the high
standards of living the Americans once had not so long ago. He introduced 5 major organisations
to restructure the American way of life they were now facing; these were the F.E.R.A, C.C.C,
A.A.A, T.V.A and the N.R.A. In this essay I am going to study if the new deal was successful up
to 1941.

He asked Congress to create a corporation clothed with the power of government but possessed of
the flexibility and initiative of a private enterprise. On May 18, 1933, Congress passed the TVA act.
Right from the start, TVA established a unique problem solving approach to fulfilling its mission
integrated resource management. Each issue TVA faced whether it was power production,
navigation, flood control, malaria prevention, reforestation, or erosion control was studied in its
broadest context.
The N.R.A was an act called for industrial self regulation and declared that codes of fair
competition for the protection of consumers, competitors, and employers were to be drafted for the
various industries of the country and were to be subject to public hearings. The administration was
empowered to make voluntary agreements dealing with hours of work, rates of pay, and the fixing
of prices.
The AAA paid farmers not to grow crops and not to produce dairy produce such as milk and
butter. It also paid them not to raise pigs and lambs. The money to pay the farmers for cutting
back production of about 30% was raised by a tax on companies that bought the farm products and
processed them into food and clothing. The AAA also became involved in trying to help farmers
destroyed by the creation of the dust bowl in 1934.

Incongruity In Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour
A statement from Patrick Rothfuss states We understand how dangerous a mask can be. We all
become what we pretend to be. . Two writers from the 1800s, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Kate
Chopin created a lot of compositions that really indicated how much individuals, particularly
women, and African Americans needed to shroud themselves, or wear a mask with a specific end
goal to be acknowledged by the overall population among their time. In numerous works of writing,
realist writers shape subjects for a bigger political and social discourse. Kate Chopin, writer of The
Story of a Hour utilized situational incongruity and inferences to pass on her message to her
readers. In the meantime, Paul Laurence Dunbar utilized metaphorical dialect to maneuver... Show

In the ballad, We Wear The Mask , by the American writer Paul L. Dunbar, he portrays how life in
the 1800s for individuals, or especially African Americans were genuinely intense circumstances in
America. A lot of changes were happening, and numerous people had a troublesome time grappling
with them. African Americans, specifically, got themselves captured in a culture that showed up
fairly better to anything it had been previously amongst the Civil War. Yet, the truth was that
things were as yet out of line. We Wear The Mask is a poem that portrays all of the pretending
and the truth that hides behind it. We get a feeling that the fact of the matter is a fairly painful one,
so individuals wear masks to shroud the repulsive truth. After the Civil War, numerous African
Americans were left still abused by alternate races regardless of the thirteenth amendment being
passed. With this, they re caught alone with just their thoughts and minds. Dunbar s title We Wear
The Mask is a metaphor in itself since individuals wear masks to conceal their actual personality,
so these individuals were concealing their actual considerations and sentiments behind a
metaphorical mask . In one of the lines of the poem, Dunbar expresses We smile but oh, great
Christ our cries . (Dunbar 654) I think the principle reason Dunbar composed this line the way he

doctors. If a surgery is necessitated, the doctor of optometry (OD) will then direct the patients to
the expertise of the eye surgeons of PCLI to address specialized treatments. In Spokane alone, they
have built a strong network of about 150 family optometrists. For a period of time, PCLI has
managed their operations with eleven satellite clinics, seven surgeons, several surgical assistants,
patient counselors and a resident physician at every clinic (Swayne, et al., 2013). However, due to
continued growth in the industry with significant market potential, stiffer competition is slowly
escalating. In fact, intense rivalry from other laser eye surgery centers in Canada as well as other
larger laser eye care centers in the nation who are charging less for Lasik eye surgery are becoming
a huge challenge for PCLI. The facility is very much aware that there is an enormous possibility
that they will lose a huge number of patients to the aforementioned competitors. With that, there is
an intense pressure to reduce overhead costs to survive in a competitive landscape. It is imperative
for the facility to reevaluate its market efforts and its services operations process and focus on new

Timothy Mcveigh s Invictus
Timothy McVeigh was quoted the famous poem, Invictus, saying I am the master of my fate: I am
the captain of my soul . McVeigh believed in many things; one being that government was planning
to strip it s citizens of their rights. As McVeigh hatred for the government grew so did the outcome
of his actions. After the Waco Siegemassacre, which involved the accidental burning of an
isolated compound that took the lives of seventy six members of a religious cult in Texas,
McVeigh wrath against the government was boiling. It was at this time that McVeigh planned to
carry out one of the worst terrorist attacks ever on US soil. It is often told that in the last moments
of someone s life remorse and shame are visibly expressed on an individual s face; however, in the
execution of domestic terrorist, Timothy McVeigh, that was not the case. Timothy McVeigh was
raised the small working class town of Pendleton, New York. Since Pendleton was a small town,
McVeigh generally had very few things to do therefore he often spent his spare time at football
games, the bowling alley, or at a bingo event. Timothy was raised by his father during his
adolescence after his parents got a divorce after years of a rocky marriage (source 6). It was during
this time that Timothy formed a strong relationship with his grandfather, who first introduced him
to guns. Shortly after the beginning of his gun obsession, Timothy would read The Turner Diaries

The Importance Of Asian Mythology And Beliefs
Due to lack of diversity taught to students involving various cultures, Asian mythology and beliefs
are very unfamiliar to the majority of the globe. Knowing different cultural views is necessary
because it opens new perspectives on different civilizations, it stops the public from being oblivious
to the rest of the world, and also allows the public to respect and understand different cultures more
profoundly. In order to know more about Asian culture, China and India s mythologyand beliefs will
be reflected upon, and facts towards these views will be brought to attention, as well as their known
religious landmarks and the significance of the landmarks to the region s practitioners.
One of China s most diverse topics when it comes to mythology and beliefs are XiЗЋolГіng, which
translates to dragons. This country is known for its celebratory festivals which include large,
detailed dragon puppets that are controlled by several people. These puppets are used to honour the
mythical creatures that the Chinese population worship. According to Cartwright (2017) There are
multiple depictions for dragons that each contain their own meanings, like wealth and strength.
These dragons are most often seen in a good aspects, and are also known as the embodiments of
chi, which is the energy that flows through everything in the universe. Chinese dragons are
described to have long snake like bodies, four short legs which contain four toes and

An Analytical Approach to Truth and Religion Essays
An Analytical Approach to Truth and Religion
ABSTRACT: I discuss some of the problems of the application of the notion of truth to religion.
After introductory remarks on the problem called truth and religion to show the peculiarity and the
actuality of the problem discussed, I examine the different meanings of the notions of truth and
religion, in order to formulate some comments on the different concepts of the truth of religion. I
name the main types of religious truth, and consider the competencies of the diverse types of the
study of religion to determine the truth of religion, and to analyze how to understand the truth of
distinct types of religion. I conclude with some remarks on the appropriate approach to the question

MГјller) such as social sciences, philosophy of religion and theology of religion, have in
determining the truth of religion.
In the past the study of religion was used both to criticize and to defend a particular religion
(usually Christianity). I do not however aim at providing arguments that a certain religion (e.g.
Christianity) or religion in general is true. I hope, however, that my analysis will contribute to the
solution of the problem of truth of religion in general and of religions other than Christianity and
will do this from a neutral point of view, not from that of the Christian religion.
At the very beginning we face the problem of the multitude of expressions: truth question in
religion, truth of religion, truth about religion, religious truth, truth in religion. Which of them
should then be used in discussing our issue? Treating language as an active instrument of
cognition and notions as useful tools I claim that each of them, even if it has a slightly different
meaning, can be employed. However, one needs carefully to determine the following issues: (1)
what is meant by religion; (2) how the notions of truth and truth of religion are to be understood;
(3) what can be competently said with regard to the question of the truth of religion by each
particular kind of studies of religion.
The question of truth of religion was vehemently discussed at the dawn of the comparative studies

relationships, feeling the loss of loved ones, and going through the trials of life. Everyone goes

things, it gives a peace of mind. When reading it in literature, it gives another level comfort, seeing

In the poem, Numbers Man by Phil Kaye, a relationship is described by the narrator, an old
laptop. The relationship is between the laptop and its owner. As the poem goes on we begin to
understand that the laptop considered the owner as a close friend or possibly a significant other.
He gave his face in numbers/ and trusted me to be the artist/ and I was/ do not laugh/ I have read
about your God/ you kill each other over your grandfather s memory of him/ I still remember the
fingertips of my God dancing over my body, (Kaye lines 33 38). The author show that the
narrator the relationship the owner shared with it was special. The relationship was significant
to the laptop, almost God follower like. Yet this poem is about the narrator reminiscing about
the owner using it. The owner had replaced the laptop with a newer model. I have information

Dbq Similarities Between Samurai And Knightss
Were the similarities between samurai and knights merely a coincidence, or did one culture copy
the other? This question has been debated for years as historians studied the feudal periods of
Japan and Europe, a time of turmoil with no rulers. Japan s government was too isolated and
couldn t rule, leading to the rise of independent daimyo. Daimyo were rich landlords who made
powerful armies of samurai. In Europe, the Roman Empire, a strong governing body, fell, leaving
nobody to govern. With nobody to govern, lords began raising their own armies of knights to gain
control of Europe. During these times, samurai and knights, who were highly skilled warriors, grew
very important in society. Even though samurai and knights had significant distinctions,... Show

One area in which training and armor was similar was the armor of samurai and knights. This
information is supported in Document D, which states, In samurai armor, small iron scales were
tied together, lacquered, and then bound into armor plates with silk or leather cords... Knights
began to wear complete suits of plate armor, constructed from metal (Document D). This shows
that samurai and knight armor was made of the same material. Samurai armor was made of iron
scales whereas knight armor was made of metal plates. Iron is a type of metal, thus making the
armor build almost the same. This is significant because it means that samurai and knights were
probably trying to protect themselves from the same types of attacks. Samurai and knight armor
was also similar because it was made in a similar way, with plates. Plates signify that fighting and
self defense were important in both societies along with protection. This is because both types of
armor allowed for flexibility, which allowed a warrior to fight better while still being protected.
Plates also signify that weapons and attack strategies were similar in both societies since plates
could protect a warrior in both societies. Compared to this, the only differences were where the
armor was placed and how much warriors wore. This is how the similarities between the armor of
samurai and knights were greater than the differences. Another area in which training and armor
were similar was the training of samurai and knights. This is supported in Document C in the
statement, The rigorous training of samurai began in childhood... A prospective knight s training
began at age four or five with learning to ride a pony (Document C). This shows that samurai and
knights began training at around the same time. Samurai began in childhood whereas knights began
around four or five year s old. This is significant because it shows that samurai and

Unrealistic Expectations
In the article Does Television Viewing Cultivate Unrealistic Expectations About Marriage? By Chris
Segrin and Robin Nabi, the authors connect the high divorce rate to the unrealistic expectation of
marriage. According to Segrin and Nabi (2002), the romanticized expectation is the dominant
reason for divorce (p. 247). The cultivation theory states that the origin of this idealistic belief may
come from the mass media, which exposes unrealistic visions to audiences. However, the study
finds out that the specific genre televisionprogram gives people unrealistic expectation of marriage,
instead of the overall television viewing. This finding could be extended to how specific genres of
movies, music videos and online videos influence audiences expectations of marriage. Afterwards,
this study could be applied in the television producing industry. Consequently, the researchers came
up two research questions to figure out the connections of television viewing, idealistic expectation
and intentions of marriage. The research questions are RQ1: Is greater television viewing
associated with more idealistic expectations about marriage? RQ2: Is there an association between
holding idealistic expectations about marriage and more immediate and idealistic marital intentions.

The authors broke up the measures into eight sub categories to examine the marital expectations,
including generalized marital expectations, fantasy rumination and idealistic expectations about
marriage etc. For the first research question, the data shows that television viewing has a central
connection with the unrealistic expectation of marriage. When people feel there are more realistic
presentation/examples in the television, there are less unrealistic beliefs about marriage. For the
second research question, it was found that an idealistic marital intention is highly related to watch

Star Spangled Banner Meaning
The Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key in 1814. The instrumental song was
inspired by the British Bombing during the war of 1812. Over the years the Star Spangled Banner
has become a common tradition in Modern America that is played before almost every public
event. Kneeling and locking arms during the national anthem is disrespectful because it shows a
lack of respect and gratefulness towards the United Statesflag, solders, and younger generations as
a whole. The American flag, red, white, and blue, is the basis of our country and represents all we
stand for. The red represents the blood shed in order to make our country the great free nation it is

Symbolism In The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls
In the memoir, The Glass Castle, it was evident the Glass Castle was not just a physical object
itself, but holds a deeper meaning of symbolism towards the author, Jeannette Walls. After
completing the book, it has been noted that the Glass Castle symbolizes the constant reminder of
Jeannette s hope that one day both her familyand house will be in a stable, working position.
Throughout the novel, the Glass Castlewas vaguely mentioned as the Walls family continued their
journey through the United States. However, through their ongoing journey, Jeannette s view of the
Glass Castle changed, as it was inevitably just a vision that her father had implanted in her brain but
never actually built in reality.

According to Jeannette, all of Dad s engineering skills and mathematical genius were coming
together in one special project: a great big house he was going to build for us in the desert
(Walls 25). Notice how Jeannette describes the Glass Castle as a great, big house instead of
simply stating her father was planning on building her family a more improved shelter. As a
child, Jeannette saw this Glass Castle as not just an average house, but a mansion for the whole
family to thrive in. Towards the middle of the book, the Glass Castle was once again mentioned
and was still a plausible idea in Jeannette s mind. Even so much that she and her brother Brian
attempted to dig a hole in their backyard as the foundation for the Glass Castle. Despite their
efforts, the hole for the Glass Castle s foundation slowly filled with garbage (Walls 155). And, as it
continued to become a home for the Walls throwaways, the probability of the Glass

What the security issues are related to Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks are very important in everyday life. This new technology is exciting with
unlimited potential for numerous application areas including environmental, medical, military,
transportation, entertainment, emergency management and homeland defence. WSN are connected

An extension of this approach is in network aggregation which aggregates data progressively as
it is passed through a network. In network data aggregation can reduce the data packet size, the
number of data transmissions and the number of nodes involved in gathering data from a WSN.
Therefore, in the field of WSNs, privacy preserving data aggregation is becoming a hot issue in
WSNs. To address this issue, some protocols have been proposed. In this, they provide a
comprehensive summary and comparison of the existing privacy preserving data aggregation
protocols for WSNs. WSN is related to privacy preserving data aggregation protocols (Ping et al
2012). In the authors reviewed privacy preserving techniques for protecting two types of private
information: data oriented and context oriented privacy. First, authors focuses only on data
privacy in order to provide detailed overviews of the existing privacy preserving data aggregation
protocols for WSNs (Ping et al 2012). Two main security challenges in secure data aggregation are
confidentiality and integrity of data (Sugandhi et al 2013). While traditionally encryption is used to
provide end to end confidentiality in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), the aggregators in a secure
data aggregation scenario need to decrypt the encrypted data to perform aggregation. Thus, while
data aggregation improves energy efficiency of a network, it complicates the existing

Europe During The Medieval Period
During the medieval time period of 200 AD to 1650 AD, Europe experienced a fluctuation in
population numbers. Factors such as disease, famine, war, and others all contribute to the changes
in population. A trend to help represent the medieval demography show a population decline during
the Late Antiquity, slow population growth during the Early Middle Ages, large population
expansion during the High Middle Ages, and a variation of population decline and growth during
the Late Middle Ages. The Late Antiquity reflects the decline of the Roman Empire. From 150 AD
to 400 AD the population of the Roman Empire went from 70 million people to 50 million
people. The empire s decline began with the Antonine Plague, lasting from 165 AD to 180 AD.
The Antonine Plague, suspected to be either smallpox or measles, was brought back to the
Roman Empire through returning soldiers from the east. A devastating 2,000 deaths daily lead to
the total estimated 5 million deaths. Succeeding the Antonine Plague was the Crisis of the Third
Century: 235 AD to 284 AD. The Roman Empire almost came to an end from outside invasions,
internal civil wars, economic depression, and new diseases. The Plague of Cyprian, 250 AD to
271 AD, like the Antonine Plague was also suspected to be smallpox. The plague took its toll on
the population, killing 5,000 people daily. The increase in deaths inhibited the number of workers
in agriculture and the Roman Empire. In 535 AD to 536 AD, the empire then faced extreme

The Creation of Barbie as an American Icon Essay examples
The Creation of Barbie as an American Icon
Barbie, at the age of 41, is one of the longest living toys in America. Analyzing her early history
can give a person a look into the societal trends and culture of the late 1950 s and early 1960 s.
There is evidence of fashion innovations in Barbie s wardrobe. Also, one can see the perception
of females by society, such as what they should look like, how they should act and dress, as well
as what their future goals could be. The following essay follows Barbie s history from 1959 to
1963, covering her development, her appeal to children, and her existence as a cultural artifact of
the time period.
History: Barbie s Debut in 1959

In addition to a different body, Bud Westmore, the make up czar at Universal Pictures, gave Lilli
a makeover (Lord 32). He discarded her bee stung lips, heavy eyelashes, and widow s peek
eyebrows (Lord 32). Following these improvements, Ryan modified the doll s joints.
Finally in 1958, Barbie Millicent Roberts was born 11 1/2 inches tall and weighing 11 ounces.
She debuted as a teenage model in a black and white striped swimsuit that came with sunglasses,
high heeled shoes, and gold colored hoop earrings (see Figure 1). Her body was shapely with
movable head, arms, and legs. Barbie was the first doll in America with an adult body.
America s Reaction
Ruth Handler realized that pretending about the future was a part of the growing up process.
While she watched her daughter, Barbara (who Barbie is named after), playing with paper dolls,
Handler formulated the idea of creating an adult doll. This was not necessarily a new idea
because there were adult fashion dolls, such as Cissy and Miss Revlon, which were on the market.
The phenomenon behind Barbie was that she was an affordable toy that had those same grown up
accessories as the other adult dolls.
As soon as Barbie was introduced to the public, her mature body horrified many adult females.
Mothers said they would not allow their child to play with Barbie because they were wary of her
sex appeal. Mattel conducted a study with mothers and daughters before they introduced Barbie.

Chapter five of Crispin Sartwell s Six Names of Beauty discuss the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi
sabi. Sartwell begins the chapter by describing a harmonica that he started playing at the age of
fourteen. During the recount, which included a detailed description of an old CD, Sartwell
shows an evident appreciation for the aged item and it s imperfection. The damage on its surface
its crackles and skips traces my intense relation to it, and gives it a kind of old time sounding
authenticity. His description of an old blues CD and the evident appreciation for the crackles and

An appreciation of wabi is an affirmation of the world and a certain sort of refusal of its

Sabi, meaning loneliness , refers to the solitude as both a state of aloneness in persons and a s a
spareness of objects. It can also be considered as a subjective state that is appropriate to the
experience of wabiL a kind of desolation or meditative depression that can be sweet. Sabi is a
quality of stillness and solitude, a melancholy that is one of the basic human responses to and
sources of beauty,
Wabi sabi is an aesthetic of poverty and loneliness, imperfection and austerity, affirmation and
melancholy. It is the beauty of the withered, weathered, tarnished, scarred, intimate, coarse,
earthly, evanescent, tentative, ephemeral. It is a broken earthenware in contrast to a Ming vase,
a branch of autumn leaves to a dozen roses, a lined and bent old woman in contrast to a model, a
mature love as opposed to an infatuation, a bare wall with peeling paint in contrast to a wall hung
with beautiful paintings. It is also a trap. Wabi sabi is an ever intensifying consciousness of the

loses its ordinariness. It is a form of beauty that overcomes the differences of beauty and ugliness,
even as it overcomes the differences of ordinary and extraordinary. The

Descriptive Essay On A Masquerade Of Life
The Masquerade of Life It was late at night and the light were dim. It was darker under the table.
I always felt safe there when they went at it. The words going back and forth as I covered my
brother s ears. His tears were streaming down his face as we sat there trembling as the storm
raged on. Noises loud as lightning echoed through the house as things flew. Words hitting like
thunder on my ears. Tears were falling down my face like raindrops and we sat there huddled and
afraid without anyone to help us through this storm. I looked down at my brother and tried to
wear a fake mask of courage, despite the fact that I am a coward, I looked at him and told him I

Her begging turned to yelling as she threw her sticks and stones at me, they say word can never

Essay on Free Will
Free Will
A definition of free will, as we have seen, can be misunderstood and easily distorted. For the
purpose of this essay free will, will be defined as the ability to chose, express ones feelings,
emotions, or actions unconditionally.
From the first time I understood the meaning of what free will was, I believed in it 100%. I had the
right and ability to choose what ever I liked. Not only did I believe that I had free will but if I
ever heard otherwise I felt that the other person did not have a clear understanding of what free
will was, and as a result I could demonstrate a fairly strong persuasive argument opposing anything
but the existence of free will. I would illustrate a situation in which there seemed to be no ... Show

I grew up in a household where I was taught that I was and will always be free. I also never had
any religious affiliation within my first 8 years of schooling, which might have influenced me to
think differently. The illustration of a gun to ones head is also rooted within the environment of
others as well as my own. We can assume that the majority of people would want to live in that
situation and therefore follow what is being asked of them. Now is that there free will? I don t
think so. The fact that they choose to live is based on their enjoyment of life and there lessons that
they have been taught by their upbringing, this is their environment. The same would be true on an
extreme end. Somebody may make the decision to not obey and sacrifice his or her life because of
extreme misery and discontent. Furthermore, the reason for the unhappiness may be a result of
heredity. The victim s mother could have used drugs, or something similar that which had an effect
on her child.
God plays an interesting role in this explanation of free will. Presently, after having about 7
years of religious education I feel like I am educated enough to speak of God. I believe that
people can be affected by God within there decision making and often have God make the choice
for them. For example, the choice to remain celibate until marriage, that is God s wishes

Social Inequality In Australia Essay
Colonisation, social inequality and healthy lives Aside from unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and
substance use are also parts of unhealthy lives in aboriginal Australians that predominantly leading

Aboriginal adults in urban area had sufficient physical activity that met the health guideline
recommendation (Australian Bureau of Statistics [ABS], 2014). Factors that impact physical
activity include colonisation and low socio economic status caused by colonisation among
aboriginal Australians (Macniven et al., 2016). As mentioned previously, aboriginal Australians
lived in hunter gatherer lifestyles that required them to have sufficient physical activity,
nevertheless, with the process of colonisation and urbanisation, most aboriginal people are grown in

Comparing Empires (Persia vs Rome)
Jacob Anderson
World Civ I
Empires
Persia Rome
The foundations of an ancient empire are shaped by many characteristics originating in a
civilization s social, philosophical, and theological values. Collectively these will bring about an
empire that has aspects which will classify them in distinctive ways. The aspects that will be
compared between Persia and Rome are the motives for expansion, methods of expansion, the
administration, the impact on those conquered and the original empire, and the reasons for the
decline of each empire. When combined, these aspects predispose the individual overall shape of
ancient Rome and Persia. Both empires began with conquering larger rulers and creating vast
empires which had never been seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having the satraps lessened the attempt of independence as well as having an administration
made up of locals helped keep revolts down. The impact of expansion on the core Persian
Empire was generally looked at and received in a positive manner. Increasing populations created
more cities and more job opportunities allowed many Persians the luxury of making more
money as the empire grew. The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the
largest influences on the core empire was Zoroastrianism. This was advocated by both Cyrus
and Darius, Darius used it in order to claim divine right to kingship. This new religion spread
very quickly through high ranking Persians (Bentley and Ziegler, 174). Zoroastrianism preached
for people to enjoy this life but to live well for the afterlife (Stearns, Zoroastrianism: The Major
Persian Religion, 43 45). This allowed people to have fun in this life and still be able to have
eternal bliss; when people are having fun and happy they are less likely to challenge their rulers.
Cyrus and Darius both tolerated ethnic and theological diversity. They did not try to force Persian
culture on the conquered people. It seemed as though the Persians just wanted to have the right to
tax and have control of the land and its riches. The Seleucids, Parthians, and Sasanids also
advocated this policy. Although this policy worked quite well in allowing for fluid execution of
ruling,

voice of employees in bargaining with employers (Nankervis et al, 2005, p.555). Unions like
Queensland Teachers Union, Transport Workers Union, Queensland Public Sector Union have
been successful in Australia in achieving improved wages and working conditions for employees.
People join the union is because of their dissatisfaction with economic aspects of the job, a desire

expected cost. According to the case, it shows that health union are battling to secure next year s

there are significant improvements in quality and services.(p 7).Unions have previously called for
staff to be rewarded for efficiency savings, but employers have been reluctant to introduce such
measures. (Snow, 2009, p.7). From this we can see that union also pay an important role on

At Home with Homeschooling
There is nothing a parent would refuse for their own child. Parents go to great lengths to make sure
that their children are well cared for. The quality of education that children receive is among one of
the greatest concerns for parents. Parents will do just about anything to make sure their children
have the best educationthey can receive, even if this means that they choose a path of home
schooling. Although to some home schooling might sound daunting and outdated, but when one
faces up with the facts of home education it is clear that, when administered properly, it provides
an environment where children can learn at their own pace, develop a healthy social life, and
receive a well rounded education.

Furthermore, how is it possible for a teacher to devote attention to finding students with learning
disabilities?
Home schooling is a positive alternative to the public classroom setting. It allows parents, the ones
who know their child more than anyone else, time to gauge how their child behaves and responds
to different learning practices. If a child is determined to have learning disability, curriculum can be
altered to accommodate this challenge. If a child struggles in a particular subject, extra time can be
taken to make sure the child understand what he is learning and grasps the specific subject content.
Along with a flexible and unique learning environment, children can also feel safe and at ease
while learning from home. This is even more important for those children who suffer from learning
disabilities. Students who struggle with learning are very prone to classmate bullying and teasing.
The amount of bullying in the public classroom setting is rapidly increasing and with today s
technology, it does not stop there. Cyber bullying from classmates is becoming a growing concern.
According to Bullying Statistics, This type of bullying has gotten immense media attention over
the past few years sighting instances of cyber bullying pushed too far, and in many cases leading to
cases of teen suicide or death (Bullying Statistics).

The Key Studies Within Social Psychology
This essay aims to explore and describe some of the key studies within Social Psychology and
show why social psychology is still important within the science of psychology today. Social
psychology was once described by Allport (as cited in Lindzey Aronson, 1985, p.5) as, the
scientific study of how people s thoughts, feelings and behaviours are influenced by the actual,
imagined or implied presence of others . One of the first psychologists to study social psychology
was Kurt Lewin. Lewin is considered the father of social psychologyby many as he took a stand
against the dominant behaviourist approach during the 1920 s through his belief that interaction
between the individual and their environment is key to affecting behaviour, rather than
environment alone. His revolutionary ideas matured into the study of group dynamics, which is
widely used by many organisations today (Collin, 2012).
Within social psychology there are areas of behaviour which psychologists have been particularly
interested in. These areas include conformity, obedience and social facilitation to name a few. Two
key studies within the areas of obedience and conformity were carried out by Milgram and Asch
(Billingham, Ladbrook, Standring Teahan, 2008).
Milgram investigated how far people would be prepared to go when obeying an authority figure.
Forty men aged from 20 to 50 volunteered to take part. When the participant arrived they were
greeted by the experimenter who was wearing a lab coat. The

Compare and contrast T-cell development with B-cell...
Introduction
The developmental routes for these cells are very complex and unique but there are similarities. B
cells produce antibodies to bind onto foreign bodies that have invaded the host organism; this
allows cells such as cytotoxic T cells will then destroy the infected cell/structure. On the other hand,
T cells such as T helper cells that secrete cytokines to control immune responses and cytotoxic T
cells that destroy pathogenic cells and structures.
B Cells
B cells develop from pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells, which give rise to lymphoid progenitor
cells in the bone marrow. These stem cells have become Pro B cells when they have begun to

A lymphoid progenitor will begin to develop into a T cell if the Notch1 protein is overexpressed
in the cell. During the double negative 1 (DN) phase of development, the cells are migrating
into the thymic cortex as pro thymocytes from the bone marrow. They are yet to commit to a
lineage so can still mature into other types of T cell such as natural killer T cells, intraepithelial
lymphocytes and regulatory T cells. Also, the cells are yet to express CD4+ or CD8+ and only
express c kit (CD117) and CD25 on their cell membrane.
DN2 is a vital phase, it occurs in the subcapsular cortex of the thymus. It is here that the genes for
the gamma, delta and beta T cell receptor (TCR) chains [3] start their rearrangement process. The
alpha chain does not commence its rearrangement, as the recombinase machinery cannot reach its
gene. In this phase, cells fully commit to the T cell lineage and the expression of c kit and CD25
on their membranes declines.
At the DN3 stage also in the subcapsular cortex, the thymocytes begin their development as О±ОІ
or ОіОґ T cells is made. This decision is made by the successful completion of the rearrangement of
the ОІ TCR gene. If a cell chooses to become a ОіОґ T cell, it finishes development here and enters
the periphery. Once this lineage choice has been made, the expression of CD25 is halted and the
pre TCR is expressed on the cell surface.
The DN4 phase is the last stage of early T cell development. Here, the alpha gene of

Harley Davidson, An American Motorcycle Manufacturer
Harley Davidson, Inc. (H D), or Harley, is an American motorcycle manufacturer, founded in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1903. It was formed by William S. Harley and his childhood friend
Arthur Davidson.
In 1901, 20 year old William S. Harley had plans to manufacture a motorcycle and he designed a
small engine that could be easily get fitted into the paddle bicycle. But the drawback of that was it
couldn t climb up the hill in Milwaukee. So they thought to come up with a bigger engine and this

Obesity and Its Impact on Today s Australian Culture and...
Obesity its Impact on Today s Australian Culture and Society Introduction Obesity is best
referred to as the red alert health zone . World health Organization (WHO 2012) defines obesity
as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health . Body mass index (weight
/height2) is a measure that determines overweight and obesity. The reports shows that BMI
greater or equal to 25 comes under the category of overweight, whereas, if BMI is greater than or
equal to 30 then the person is categorized as obese. Obesity is known to be the fifth most leading
risk as a cause of death worldwide. An increase in high fat and salt and low intake of vitamins
and minerals results in obesity. Lack of sufficient physical activity also causes obesity in many
people. The thing that makes obesity dangerous is the fact that today s society does not view
obesity as a serious threat. It is important to understand the fact that obesity is not just being fat
or having a BMI i.e. Body Mass Index greater than that of an overweight person. Many researches
(Cameron et al. 2003) indicate that obesity is a serious problem that can fatally damage the
physical as well as the mental health of a person. While all of us understand how obesity can
affect the physical health, a few of us know how mental health is affected due to obesity. A person
suffering from obesity is termed as obese. Such a person is usually a victim of mockery and insult

workplaces more family friendly for those they employ. Some examples of actions that demonstrate
workplaces being supportive of their employees efforts of combining family and work
commitments are childcare services, flexible schedules, and familyor medical leave. Childcare
services could include things such as on site services to care for a child during employee work
hours or by providing a subsidy for outside childcare services. Accomplishing flexible schedules
would include items that cater to the employees schedule for example job sharing, a compressed
workweek, and flexible hours. Paid time off and personal days would also fall under these policies.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are damaging behaviors identified from research
conducted by social psychologist John Gottman. The ways these feeling are expressed is
destructive and are associated with couples whose relationship will more than likely end in
divorce. The Four Horseman are contempt, criticism, defensiveness, and stonewalling. Contempt,
such as an eye roll, is an attack towards another s sense of self with the intention of
psychologically abuse or an insult. It often leaves the spouse feeling inferior or undesired.
Criticism, for example a verbal attack towards another s personality or their character, entails
producing disapproving judgments or evaluations meant to indicate the faults one one s partner.
Defensiveness, like viewing oneself as the victim to deflect a forthcoming verbal attack and
ultimately reverse the blame, is mentally preparing oneself against a presumed upcoming attack.
Stonewalling, an example being withdrawn so as to avoid conflict to distance oneself from
disapproval, is the act of refuting complaints and refusing to give them serious consideration.
When using any of the Four Horsemen during a developing argument, the couple s quarrel will
often escalate rather quickly leaving both involved feeling contemptuous towards the other party
and allow what could be a trivial issue to balloon into a much larger problem. This would leave the
parties defensive towards each other and with negative feeling abound could signal an

Living On The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
San Andreas Essay
There are thousands of people living in San Francisco, without knowing that they are at a high
risk of fatality at this moment. People should not be living too close or on a fault line, especially
without the knowledge of the risks they are taking. The San Andreas fault line is a juncture of the
Pacific and North America plates. The fault line is 800 miles long. It starts close to Eureka and
ends above Brawly. Scientists predict that an earthquake can happen at the San Andreas fault line
any moment right now and with very high likelihood of happening sometime before 2032. In the
event of an earthquake, many lives will be lost, money will be spent, and in some cases, residents
are ignorant of the peril.
Many lives will be lost when the next earthquake strikes. During the 1906 San Francisco earthquake
, more than 700 fatalities occurred. This could happen again if people continue to live on the fault
line. While the earthquake will cause numerous amounts of death, the fires, and tsunamis the
earthquake creates will cause even more destruction and devastation. Most of the deaths from the
1906 earthquake were mainly caused by the fires that the earthquake caused. When the next
earthquake strikes, more people could die. Some may say that there are ... Show more content on

However, in most cases, the people living there do not even know the risks. Humans should have
learned from the 1906 quake that the San Andreas fault line is too dangerous to live on. The
1906 earthquake should have been a mistake that was learned from. The knowledge gained from
the past will be useless if it is unused. People can do all they want to earthquake proof the cities,
but in the end, when the next big one strikes, lives and money will still be lost. Knowing all the
risks there are to living on the San Andreas fault line, it is very clear that it is not a safe place for
people to

Why I Want To Become A Neuro-Ambassador
During nearly the entirety of orientation, I felt rather lost and especially confused, as I am not
from Ohio, no one in my family had been to a university like OSU, nor did anyone in my family
know anything about what I wanted to major in. I truly felt like everyone else was two steps
ahead of me, and I especially had issues when it came to scheduling. I do not remember her
name, but there was one Neuro Ambassador in particular that helped me for such a long time
because I had a lot of incoming credits from other schools that I had no idea what to do with. As
soon as she noticed I was struggling she came up to me and asked me how she could help, and she
worked me until we figured out every bit of it. She especially made me feel comfortable... Show

I really want it to be a bigger program that is more active with the students in the major, because I
really do see a lot great potential in the program and their relevance in the major. I d love for
them to create new ways to actively put people together in the major and provide a platform
wherein we can work together more or perhaps just meet others in the major so we can collaborate
on reaching our goals together. Not only that, but for them to maybe set up events and stuff to help
educate kids on how to be successful in the major, because figuring everything out essentially on

A brief review of Marine Isotope stages
Introduction
The creation of marine isotope stages we know today was a carminative effort between several
scientists and research institutions across decades. It first started with Cesare Emiliani who
transferred to the University of Miami s Institute of Marine Science in 1957. Emiliani had been
investigating the cause and nature of Quaternary glaciations by examining foraminifera fossils
from the marine sedimentary record for the Pleistocene Age. Moving to the University of Miami
offered new opportunities for Emiliani to work with ongoing drilling projects and trained
individuals. Emiliani s work was heavily influenced by Harold Urey s 1947 work on ... Show more

Oxygen isotope ratios change in the ocean primarily due to precipitation and evaporation. When
water evaporates from the surface, lighter 16O is preferentially removed and turned into vapor
while the heavier 18O is preferentially left behind. With time, this causes the ocean to be 16O
depleted or 18O enriched. If the cloud precipitates out, the first isotopes to be released are the
heavier 18O while the 16O remain as vapor. It is important to note that complete precipitation or
evaporation results in no fractionation since all molecules of water are precipitated or evaporated
out. Rayleigh fractionation occurs as the water vapor moves poleward and begins precipitating
out the heavier isotopes until the vapor is progressively more enriched in light isotopes (Figure 1).
The lighter isotopes can then be stored as terrestrial ice. This mechanism explains how on long
timescales the oxygen isotope ratio can change when forming or collapsing large ice sheets.
Because the changes in the isotopic ratio are so small, delta notion was adopted with the use of an
international standard. The original standard, adopted in 1968 by the International Atomic Energy
Agency, was called Standard Mean Ocean Water (SMOW) but has been retired for the current
standard Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water (VSMOW). The calculation for Оґ18O is defined as
follows: Оґ^18 O=[(гЂ–(_^18)O/(_^16)O

Compare And Contrast The Native American Conquest Of The...
Before the conquest, nomadic tribes entered North America on the strip of land called the Beringa.
The paleo Indians were the first to set foot on the continent. However, because they did not
domesticate animals, they did not possess the immunities for the diseases to come later to come.
The paleo Indians hunted large mammals which soon became scarce due to their growing
population. They soon adapted to eating smaller animals, fish, nuts and soon they learned to
cultivate certain plants. The native Americans also began to make ceramics. Agricultural revolution

The Europeans tried to convert the Indians into civilization and Christianity with little to no

Malaria Research Paper
Malaria is a serious disease caused by a parasite. Infected mosquitoes spread it. Malaria is very
common throughout the world. In the United States, the main risk is to persons traveling to
tropical and subtropical countries where malaria is a problem. There are four different types of
malaria caused by four related parasites. The most deadly type occurs in Africa south of the Sahara
Desert. The symptoms characteristic of malariainclude fever, chills, muscle aches, and headache.
Cycles of chills, fever, and sweating that recur every 1, 2 or 3 days are typical. There can
sometimes be vomiting, diarrhoea, coughing and yellowing (jaundice) of the skin and whites of the
eyes. The treatment for malaria depends upon the geographic area where a person has been infected
with the disease. Different areas of the world have malaria types that are resistant to certain
medications.
Malaria is a disease which can be transmitted to people of all ages. It is caused by parasites of the
species Plasmodium that are spread from person to person through the bites of infected
mosquitoes. Malaria is a parasitic disease that involves infection of the red blood cells. Of the
four types of malaria, the most serious type is falciparum malaria, which can be life threatening.

Mainstreaming of Learning Disabled into Regular Classroom
The classroom scenario that I chose to present relates to the mainstreaming of the learning
disabled into a regular classroom. The portrayal that I am going to use will be one of a veteran
teacher who will be mainstreaming learning disabled into her classroom. I hope that you find
this appropriate and fulfilling as I did. Twenty year veteran teacher, whom we will call Mrs. H.,
has been told that her classroom is soon to be mainstreamed with learning disabled students. Mrs.
H is not very agreeable to this idea, yet she knows that she has to accept it as part of her current
position as educator. Principal G has been approached by the parents of the learning disabled with
complaints that the students in Mrs. H class are not being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The third question was regarding whether the student should remain in the general classroom; 41%
responded yes, 27% said it depended on certain factors, 26% said no, and 6% were unsure. The
fourth and final question was whether the learning disabled student in the general classroom
presented the teacher with more demands. Not surprising to me was the fact that 68% responded
yes, 25% responded no, and 7% were unsure. My personal interpretation of this survey in relation to
the mainstreaming situation is very direct. Many educators feel the learning disabled students are
different from the other students. They lack the skills to succeed, therefore the classroom needs to
be adjusted for them. Almost half of the educators felt the students could remain in the general
classroom, while about a quarter of them wanted the learning disabled removed and another quarter
would allow the student to remain if he met certain factors. Those teachers who did not want to
conform and allow the student to remain need to be presented with options for adapting their
methods of academic presentation, infiltration to peer discussion groups and evaluation procedures.

The Impact Of Hot Topic On Consumers And American Pop Culture
Getting teenagers to buy your items can be really complicated, especially with new trends changing
from month to month. Even though the average consumer can t possibly think how these stores are
able to keep up and manage the sudden changes in culture the community brings, they do know that
each day in a store brings new products and different arrangements throughout the store to fit the
consumer s needs. Specifically enough, each store creates an image for themselves that
exemplifies the culture and shows us something about the times we live in at that moment. Hot
Topic influences the way the consumer buys their products by integrating family friendly items
and American pop culture within their products in order to appeal and attract customers into
buying merchandise that is relevant and trending. What is Hot Topic? Hot Topic is an American
retail store that is largely based in California that sells culture related clothes, largely attracting
young teenagers and adults. The store is basely located in California, but has stores in other parts
of the U.S. and Canada. It is evident that Hot Topic is a store that always visually changes from
time to time, in order to appeal to the young consumers that walk by there stores when they go
watch a movie or go to the mall with friends. The store studies and analyzes the way that young
men and women act, follow, and do when they are introduced to new pop culture. Why does
studying the consumer matter? Well, according to an article

Cause And Effect Of Divorce
Generally, there are many causes and effects as to why people marry and get divorced. In today
s society, one could easily argue that one of the main reasons people get divorced is because
they don t want to work issues out with their significant other. However, I beg to differ some of
the causes can range from but aren t limited to, finance issues, adultery, and domestic violence.
The effects of all of these can range from broken homes, separation and when all else fails
divorce is usually the last resort for couples. With the wide spectrum of both the causes and effects
of divorce, if one doesn t have a good understanding of the issues the latter would be inevitable.
According to Penn State University, Finance is said to be the number one cause of divorce in the
21st century. Finances or the lack thereof often constitute to, Marital Strife (Brown., 2017). This
may be because of the high living cost in various different areas and without being stable
monetarily, this can cause a strain on any relationship. However, this is usually where
communication and sacrifice comes into play in a normal marriage. In any relationship
communication is what rules over everything, without it everything can crumble into a pile of
nothingness. Adultery or Cheating has been listed on the article as well, and this can be seen as a
no brainer as to why it was actually on there. More times than often people cheat in relationships
and marriages and once their spouse finds out it breaks the

Defense Attorneys
I feel that defense attorneys are typically viewed negatively by the general public, after all, isn t
their job to find the loopholes in a case in order to get someone accused of a heinous crime off
scot free? To be fair and honest, I have felt that way in the past. That is, however, until I began
researching some of the numerous wrongful conviction cases that are coming to light in the
United States. According to the National Registry of Exonerations, there have been 2102
exonerations in the U.S. since they began keeping track in 1989 ( The National Registry of
Exonerations Exoneration Registry, 2017). That is over 2,100 people whose lives have been
irrevocably altered by being convicted of a crimethey didn t commit. An unknown number... Show

As we saw in the video clip, defendants aren t always upfront with the fact involved in their
cases. Sometimes it can be likened to pulling teeth or herding cats, not a job for the faint of
heart. When you combine the lack of information, long hours, low pay and an overwhelming
caseload, you get a career that is equal parts rewarding and frustrating. I feel that defendants tend
to have a lack of faith and trust in their attorneys, especially those that are appointed. According to
our textbook, those facing serious charges and long jail terms tend to have less confidence in their
attorneys, particularly court appointed attorneys. It s a common rhetoric that the public defender s
office is both understaffed and overworked. But, as our textbook goes on to state, those defense
attorneys that take little time they have to develop relationships with their clients tend to garner
their client s trust (Siegel, Schmalleger Worrall, 2015). Perhaps, the accused is feeling
overwhelmed by the process, or they are feeling as if they are not being heard and by spending a
little time with them the attorneys allow the defendant to feel, at least for a little while, as if they
have some control over their

Arrogance of Power Review Essay
English 102
2 July 2014
A Favorable Evaluation
William J. Fulbright, a democratic Senator from Arkansas, was Chairman of the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee in 1966 when The Arrogance of Power was published. In an excerpt from
Fulbright s book, he analyzes the misguided thinking behind America s global interventionism
and its delusion of righteous all powerfulness. These symptoms are a confusion of power and
virtue. Fulbright defines the arrogance of power as, a psychological need that nations seem to
have in order to prove that they are bigger, better, or stronger than other nations (2). William J.
Fulbright uses persuasive appeals in his well structured book, The Arrogance of Power to help
convey his views on U.S. war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to his use of pathos, Fulbright also has an excellent use of logos and ethos throughout
the piece.
Fulbright lays out facts that the law of averages has already been more than kind to us, and sooner
or later the law of averages will turn against us (4). Fulbright educates the readers on theologians,
behavioral scientists, and humanists, explaining in detail how these fields play a role in the
behavior of nations. In pointing out these facts Fulbright is appealing to the reader s logical sides.
William J. Fulbright uses ethos by using other sources to help further his position. There is a
Canadian psychiatrist, Brock Chisholm, and two prominent authors, Aldous Huxley and Mark
Twain, quoted to help supplement the Senator s point that a radical change in traditional behavior
is required (Fulbright 4). Given Fulbright s position as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations
Committee, he himself is a very credible source. The reader is much more likely to agree with
Senator Fulbright on issues rather than to agree with an average citizen.
Fulbright is very blunt and matter of fact during this piece which helped make his point. There is
not a lot of fluff to read around. In part to great transitions the work has a logical order to it which
seems to build everything up and then little by little shows the flaws and eventually tears it down
wholly. Fulbright not only

Analysis Of Mexican Whiteboy
Book Summary:
Mexican Whiteboy is a contemporary story that takes place in National City, California, part of
the San Diego metropolitan area. The main characters in the story are sixteen year old Danny
and Uno, who are both biracial; Danny s mother is white and his father is Mexican, and Uno s
mother is Mexican and his father is African American. Over the summer, Danny and Uno find that
they have a lot in common and even though they both go through similar hardships in life, each
reveals contrasting ways of meeting a problem. Uno tries to overcome his obstacles with courage
and boldness, whereas Danny habitually digs into his wrist until it bleeds. Danny is also an
incredibly talented pitcher who could be signed by a college recruiter. However, he always shuts
down and loses concentration when he is on the mound. His uneven pitching is a metaphor for his
internal struggles. Over time, Danny s summer experiences help him to believe in himself and find
his pitch: his focus.
Connections
Mexican Whiteboy s theme is developed through the main character s growth. Over time, Danny
learns the way to overcome his obstacles and how to move forward despite the drawbacks in his
life. The author uses Uno and Danny to teach the reader a life lesson. Over the summer Uno
guides Danny to learn the way to overcome his hurdles and how to progress despite drawbacks: to
believe in himself. After reading the story, I have decided to use a blacklock box that teaches the

Luckily, James Earl Ray pled guilty to the murder, so there would be no trial. On April 4, 1968, Doctor King was fatally wounded by a single shot in Memphis, Tennessee while standing on the balcony of his second story hotel. Subsequently, that evening a Remington .30 06 hunting rifle was found one block away from the Lorraine Motel. Over the next several weeks the prosecution was building their case, which consisted of the rifle, eyewitness reports, and fingerprints on the rifle all pointed to a single assailant, James Earl Ray. Furthermore, James Earl Ray was an escaped convict that was on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He asked Congress to create a corporation clothed with the power of government but possessed of the flexibility and initiative of a private enterprise. On May 18, 1933, Congress passed the TVA act. Right from the start, TVA established a unique problem solving approach to fulfilling its mission integrated resource management. Each issue TVA faced whether it was power production, navigation, flood control, malaria prevention, reforestation, or erosion control was studied in its broadest context. The N.R.A was an act called for industrial self regulation and declared that codes of fair competition for the protection of consumers, competitors, and employers were to be drafted for the various industries of the country and were to be subject to public hearings. The administration was empowered to make voluntary agreements dealing with hours of work, rates of pay, and the fixing of prices. The AAA paid farmers not to grow crops and not to produce dairy produce such as milk and butter. It also paid them not to raise pigs and lambs. The money to pay the farmers for cutting back production of about 30% was raised by a tax on companies that bought the farm products and processed them into food and clothing. The AAA also became involved in trying to help farmers destroyed by the creation of the dust bowl in 1934. The Federal Emergency Relief Administration, or FERA, is a government ... Two writers from the 1800s, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Kate Chopin created a lot of compositions that really indicated how much individuals, particularly women, and African Americans needed to shroud themselves, or wear a mask with a specific end goal to be acknowledged by the overall population among their time. In numerous works of writing, realist writers shape subjects for a bigger political and social discourse. Kate Chopin, writer of The Story of a Hour utilized situational incongruity and inferences to pass on her message to her readers. Dunbar, he portrays how life in the 1800s for individuals, or especially African Americans were genuinely intense circumstances in America. A lot of changes were happening, and numerous people had a troublesome time grappling with them. African Americans, specifically, got themselves captured in a culture that showed up fairly better to anything it had been previously amongst the Civil War. Yet, the truth was that things were as yet out of line. We Wear The Mask is a poem that portrays all of the pretending and the truth that hides behind it. We get a feeling that the fact of the matter is a fairly painful one, so individuals wear masks to shroud the repulsive truth. After the Civil War, numerous African Americans were left still abused by alternate races regardless of the thirteenth amendment being passed. With this, they re caught alone with just their thoughts and minds. Dunbar s title We Wear The Mask is a metaphor in itself since individuals wear masks to conceal their actual personality, so these individuals were concealing their actual considerations and sentiments behind a metaphorical mask . In one of the lines of the poem, Dunbar expresses We smile but oh, great Christ our cries . (Dunbar 654) I think the principle reason Dunbar composed this line the way he did is on ... In fact, intense rivalry from other laser eye surgery centers in Canada as well as other larger laser eye care centers in the nation who are charging less for Lasik eye surgery are becoming a huge challenge for PCLI. McVeigh believed in many things; one being that government was planning to strip it s citizens of their rights. As McVeigh hatred for the government grew so did the outcome of his actions. After the Waco Siegemassacre, which involved the accidental burning of an isolated compound that took the lives of seventy six members of a religious cult in Texas, McVeigh wrath against the government was boiling. It was at this time that McVeigh planned to carry out one of the worst terrorist attacks ever on US soil. It is often told that in the last moments of someone s life remorse and shame are visibly expressed on an individual s face; however, in the execution of domestic terrorist, Timothy McVeigh, that was not the case. Timothy McVeigh was raised the small working class town of Pendleton, New York. Since Pendleton was a small town, McVeigh generally had very few things to do therefore he often spent his spare time at football games, the bowling alley, or at a bingo event. Timothy was raised by his father during his adolescence after his parents got a divorce after years of a rocky marriage (source 6). The Importance Of Asian Mythology And Beliefs Due to lack of diversity taught to students involving various cultures, Asian mythology and beliefs are very unfamiliar to the majority of the globe. In order to know more about Asian culture, China and India s mythologyand beliefs will be reflected upon, and facts towards these views will be brought to attention, as well as their known religious landmarks and the significance of the landmarks to the region s practitioners. In the past the study of religion was used both to criticize and to defend a particular religion (usually Christianity). I do not however aim at providing arguments that a certain religion (e.g. Christianity) or religion in general is true. I hope, however, that my analysis will contribute to the solution of the problem of truth of religion in general and of religions other than Christianity and will do this from a neutral point of view, not from that of the Christian religion. At the very beginning we face the problem of the multitude of expressions: truth question in religion, truth of religion, truth about religion, religious truth, truth in religion. Which of them should then be used in discussing our issue? Treating language as an active instrument of cognition and notions as useful tools I claim that each of them, even if it has a slightly different meaning, can be employed. However, one needs carefully to determine the following issues: (1) what is meant by religion; (2) how the notions of truth and truth of religion are to be understood; (3) what can be competently said with regard to the question of the truth of religion by each particular kind of studies of religion. • 12. Dbq Similarities Between Samurai And Knightss Were the similarities between samurai and knights merely a coincidence, or did one culture copy the other? This question has been debated for years as historians studied the feudal periods of Japan and Europe, a time of turmoil with no rulers. Japan s government was too isolated and couldn t rule, leading to the rise of independent daimyo. Daimyo were rich landlords who made powerful armies of samurai. In Europe, the Roman Empire, a strong governing body, fell, leaving nobody to govern. With nobody to govern, lords began raising their own armies of knights to gain control of Europe. During these times, samurai and knights, who were highly skilled warriors, grew very important in society. Even though samurai and knights had significant distinctions,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One area in which training and armor was similar was the armor of samurai and knights. This information is supported in Document D, which states, In samurai armor, small iron scales were tied together, lacquered, and then bound into armor plates with silk or leather cords... Knights began to wear complete suits of plate armor, constructed from metal (Document D). This shows that samurai and knight armor was made of the same material. Samurai armor was made of iron scales whereas knight armor was made of metal plates. Iron is a type of metal, thus making the armor build almost the same. This is significant because it means that samurai and knights were probably trying to protect themselves from the same types of attacks. Samurai and knight armor was also similar because it was made in a similar way, with plates. Plates signify that fighting and self defense were important in both societies along with protection. This is because both types of armor allowed for flexibility, which allowed a warrior to fight better while still being protected. Plates also signify that weapons and attack strategies were similar in both societies since plates could protect a warrior in both societies. Compared to this, the only differences were where the armor was placed and how much warriors wore. This is how the similarities between the armor of samurai and knights were greater than the differences. Another area in which training and armor were similar was the training of samurai and knights. This is supported in Document C in the statement, The rigorous training of samurai began in childhood... A prospective knight s training began at age four or five with learning to ride a pony (Document C). This shows that samurai and knights began training at around the same time. Samurai began in childhood whereas knights began around four or five year s old. This is significant because it shows that samurai and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The cultivation theory states that the origin of this idealistic belief may come from the mass media, which exposes unrealistic visions to audiences. However, the study finds out that the specific genre televisionprogram gives people unrealistic expectation of marriage, instead of the overall television viewing. This finding could be extended to how specific genres of movies, music videos and online videos influence audiences expectations of marriage. Afterwards, this study could be applied in the television producing industry. Consequently, the researchers came up two research questions to figure out the connections of television viewing, idealistic expectation and intentions of marriage. The research questions are RQ1: Is greater television viewing associated with more idealistic expectations about marriage? RQ2: Is there an association between holding idealistic expectations about marriage and more immediate and idealistic marital intentions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the years the Star Spangled Banner has become a common tradition in Modern America that is played before almost every public event. Kneeling and locking arms during the national anthem is disrespectful because it shows a lack of respect and gratefulness towards the United Statesflag, solders, and younger generations as a whole. Symbolism In The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls In the memoir, The Glass Castle, it was evident the Glass Castle was not just a physical object itself, but holds a deeper meaning of symbolism towards the author, Jeannette Walls. After completing the book, it has been noted that the Glass Castle symbolizes the constant reminder of Jeannette s hope that one day both her familyand house will be in a stable, working position. Throughout the novel, the Glass Castlewas vaguely mentioned as the Walls family continued their journey through the United States. An extension of this approach is in network aggregation which aggregates data progressively as it is passed through a network. In network data aggregation can reduce the data packet size, the number of data transmissions and the number of nodes involved in gathering data from a WSN. Therefore, in the field of WSNs, privacy preserving data aggregation is becoming a hot issue in WSNs. To address this issue, some protocols have been proposed. In this, they provide a comprehensive summary and comparison of the existing privacy preserving data aggregation protocols for WSNs. WSN is related to privacy preserving data aggregation protocols (Ping et al 2012). In the authors reviewed privacy preserving techniques for protecting two types of private information: data oriented and context oriented privacy. First, authors focuses only on data privacy in order to provide detailed overviews of the existing privacy preserving data aggregation protocols for WSNs (Ping et al 2012). Two main security challenges in secure data aggregation are confidentiality and integrity of data (Sugandhi et al 2013). While traditionally encryption is used to provide end to end confidentiality in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), the aggregators in a secure data aggregation scenario need to decrypt the encrypted data to perform aggregation. Factors such as disease, famine, war, and others all contribute to the changes in population. A trend to help represent the medieval demography show a population decline during the Late Antiquity, slow population growth during the Early Middle Ages, large population expansion during the High Middle Ages, and a variation of population decline and growth during the Late Middle Ages. The Late Antiquity reflects the decline of the Roman Empire. From 150 AD to 400 AD the population of the Roman Empire went from 70 million people to 50 million people. The empire s decline began with the Antonine Plague, lasting from 165 AD to 180 AD. The Antonine Plague, suspected to be either smallpox or measles, was brought back to the Roman Empire through returning soldiers from the east. The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the largest influences on the core empire was Zoroastrianism. The Key Studies Within Social Psychology This essay aims to explore and describe some of the key studies within Social Psychology and show why social psychology is still important within the science of psychology today. Social psychology was once described by Allport (as cited in Lindzey Aronson, 1985, p.5) as, the scientific study of how people s thoughts, feelings and behaviours are influenced by the actual, imagined or implied presence of others . One of the first psychologists to study social psychology was Kurt Lewin. Lewin is considered the father of social psychologyby many as he took a stand against the dominant behaviourist approach during the 1920 s through his belief that interaction between the individual and their environment is key to affecting behaviour, rather than environment alone. His revolutionary ideas matured into the study of group dynamics, which is widely used by many organisations today (Collin, 2012). Within social psychology there are areas of behaviour which psychologists have been particularly interested in. These areas include conformity, obedience and social facilitation to name a few. Two key studies within the areas of obedience and conformity were carried out by Milgram and Asch (Billingham, Ladbrook, Standring Teahan, 2008). A lymphoid progenitor will begin to develop into a T cell if the Notch1 protein is overexpressed in the cell. During the double negative 1 (DN) phase of development, the cells are migrating into the thymic cortex as pro thymocytes from the bone marrow. They are yet to commit to a lineage so can still mature into other types of T cell such as natural killer T cells, intraepithelial lymphocytes and regulatory T cells. Also, the cells are yet to express CD4+ or CD8+ and only express c kit (CD117) and CD25 on their cell membrane. DN2 is a vital phase, it occurs in the subcapsular cortex of the thymus. It is here that the genes for the gamma, delta and beta T cell receptor (TCR) chains [3] start their rearrangement process. The alpha chain does not commence its rearrangement, as the recombinase machinery cannot reach its gene. In this phase, cells fully commit to the T cell lineage and the expression of c kit and CD25 on their membranes declines. At the DN3 stage also in the subcapsular cortex, the thymocytes begin their development as О±ОІ or ОіОґ T cells is made. This decision is made by the successful completion of the rearrangement of the ОІ TCR gene. If a cell chooses to become a ОіОґ T cell, it finishes development here and enters the periphery. Once this lineage choice has been made, the expression of CD25 is halted and the pre TCR is expressed on the cell surface. The DN4 phase is the last stage of early T cell development. Job exists as the sole counselor in this event because he encourage his wife even though he goes through more than she goes through and he receives multiple negative monologues from his friends. The rest of the book of Job discusses the miseries of Job s trials and does not mention Job s wife again until the last five verses of the book; however this counseling session will parallel the events of Job and focus on the reconciliation of Job s wife. This counseling session begins after Job s wife tells him to curse God because at this point she existed at the deepest point of her grief and anger. Furthermore, the next step to take in this counseling session exists in identifying the type of grief that Job s wife is experiencing and if her anger exists as a symptom of grief, or does it subsist as its own issue. In J. William Worden s book, Grief Counselingand Grief Therapy, he discusses multiple reasons and responses of grief in different occasions. Job s wife experiences a sudden death of multiple children and Worden proposes that those who lose a loved one in a sudden death react differently to the situation. He says that some clients obtain a sense of unreality about the loss; others feel guilt, helplessness, or even agitation. Obesity its Impact on Today s Australian Culture and Society Introduction Obesity is best referred to as the red alert health zone . World health Organization (WHO 2012) defines obesity as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health . Body mass index (weight /height2) is a measure that determines overweight and obesity. The reports shows that BMI greater or equal to 25 comes under the category of overweight, whereas, if BMI is greater than or equal to 30 then the person is categorized as obese. Obesity is known to be the fifth most leading risk as a cause of death worldwide. An increase in high fat and salt and low intake of vitamins and minerals results in obesity. Lack of sufficient physical activity also causes obesity in many people. The thing that makes obesity dangerous is the fact that today s society does not view obesity as a serious threat. It is important to understand the fact that obesity is not just being fat or having a BMI i.e. Body Mass Index greater than that of an overweight person. Many researches (Cameron et al. 2003) indicate that obesity is a serious problem that can fatally damage the physical as well as the mental health of a person. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are damaging behaviors identified from research conducted by social psychologist John Gottman. The ways these feeling are expressed is destructive and are associated with couples whose relationship will more than likely end in divorce. The Four Horseman are contempt, criticism, defensiveness, and stonewalling. Contempt, such as an eye roll, is an attack towards another s sense of self with the intention of psychologically abuse or an insult. It often leaves the spouse feeling inferior or undesired. Criticism, for example a verbal attack towards another s personality or their character, entails producing disapproving judgments or evaluations meant to indicate the faults one one s partner. Defensiveness, like viewing oneself as the victim to deflect a forthcoming verbal attack and ultimately reverse the blame, is mentally preparing oneself against a presumed upcoming attack. Stonewalling, an example being withdrawn so as to avoid conflict to distance oneself from disapproval, is the act of refuting complaints and refusing to give them serious consideration. When using any of the Four Horsemen during a developing argument, the couple s quarrel will often escalate rather quickly leaving both involved feeling contemptuous towards the other party and allow what could be a trivial issue to balloon into a much larger problem. It first started with Cesare Emiliani who transferred to the University of Miami s Institute of Marine Science in 1957. Emiliani had been investigating the cause and nature of Quaternary glaciations by examining foraminifera fossils from the marine sedimentary record for the Pleistocene Age. Moving to the University of Miami offered new opportunities for Emiliani to work with ongoing drilling projects and trained individuals. Oxygen isotope ratios change in the ocean primarily due to precipitation and evaporation. When water evaporates from the surface, lighter 16O is preferentially removed and turned into vapor while the heavier 18O is preferentially left behind. With time, this causes the ocean to be 16O depleted or 18O enriched. If the cloud precipitates out, the first isotopes to be released are the heavier 18O while the 16O remain as vapor. It is important to note that complete precipitation or evaporation results in no fractionation since all molecules of water are precipitated or evaporated out. Rayleigh fractionation occurs as the water vapor moves poleward and begins precipitating out the heavier isotopes until the vapor is progressively more enriched in light isotopes (Figure 1). The lighter isotopes can then be stored as terrestrial ice. This mechanism explains how on long timescales the oxygen isotope ratio can change when forming or collapsing large ice sheets. Because the changes in the isotopic ratio are so small, delta notion was adopted with the use of an international standard. The original standard, adopted in 1968 by the International Atomic Energy Agency, was called Standard Mean Ocean Water (SMOW) but has been retired for the current standard Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water (VSMOW).
