The Social Responsibility Of Corporations Essay
Abstract
This paper explores the importance of social responsibility within corporations. This paper also
explores The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its Profits by Milton Friedman and
his stance on social responsibility. Friedman believed that corporations should not waste money on
new initiatives if it was just to appease the public, especially if it went above what laws required.
Examples are shown how corporations must listen to the customer or it could hurt the profitability
of the corporation, with social media being a big tool to press issues. Also discussed are laws that
support socially responsible initiatives such as pollution reduction that direct and provide incentives
for businesses. Keywords: Milton Friedman, The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its

Pollution Prevention Act of 1990
The Goal of the Firm
According to Investopedia, Milton Friedman was an American economist and statistician known
for his strong beliefs in free market capitalism. Friedman was also opposed to any government
ran programs that regulated policy that was used for the purpose of fueling business activity and
employment. In 1970, Friedman wrote an article labeled The Social Responsibility of Business is
to Increase its Profits . The basic premise of the article was to argue that business should not worry

The Effects Of The Child Beauty Pageant
The Negative Effects of the Child Beauty Pageant

Abstract
This paper will explore the negative effects that a beauty pageant has on a child. While many
people think that these pageants are an overall good experience for any child this paper contains
and explores research paper that will outline the negative effects these pageants have on the
children in them, some of them being long term effects. Some of these effects include mental
anguish that is formed from children being in these contests and the effects the pageants have on
a family as a whole. Together these findings show that perhaps these beauty pageants should not
be something that a child should participate in, or be forced into participating in. Keywords:
children, beauty pageants, negative, effects The first beauty pageant geared towards children
was the Little Miss America Pageant which took place in the 1960 s in New Jersey. Originally
participation in these pageants was intended to be for young girls between the ages of 13 and 17.
Since then these pageants had a steady following. Pageants aren t the dress up play we knew as
little girls, they are a multi billion dollar industry. (Cartwright, 2011) However, over the past few
years the child beauty pageant has gained mass popularity thanks to popular television shows such
as Toddlers and Tiaras. Shows like this have the purpose and goal of glamorizing

Understanding Weaknesses Of The Four Day Workweek
Understanding Weaknesses of the Four Day Workweek
Four day workweek, like the name suggests, calls for replacing the five eight hour days with four
ten hour days without changes in hourly earnings or weekly earnings. Therefore, the same number
of hours of work and leisure are provided at the same earnings. The concept of a compressed
workweek is not new, even if it is not the norm for most jobs. Proposals to reduce weekly hours
of work, a major concern of American labor in the early years of century, are again a serious
concern to many people. The 2008 National Study of Employers, released by the Families and
Work Institute, found that 38 percent of US firms allow a compressed workweek for some
employees. Eight percent permit it for all or most employees (Gardner). When a growing number
of employers are considering converting to a compressed four day workweek, it is important to
understand positives and negatives of the new work schedule, to analyze a specific example of
company that have failed in converting to the new policy, and to understand additional factors to
consider before the implementation of the new policy.
An advantage brought to employers is that the four day workweek helps companies save money
incurred on daily operation. When employees cram 40 hours of work into four days, companies can
save energy bills by closing for an extra one day per week. For example, in 2009, Utah became the
first state to institute an official four day workweek for all state

Abigail Fisher Vs The University Of Texas At Austin Case...
Abigail Fisher vs. The University of Texas at Austin Response
Racial discrimination has been a prevalent issue in America since the beginning. After the Civil
Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s, American society has tried to correct its discriminatory
behavior, particularly in the field of education. But some believe this correction to ensure equality
of educational opportunity is infringing on the rights of, not minorities, but whites. The Supreme
Court Case, Abigail Fisher vs. University of Texas at Austin, tried to combat this issue regarding the
discrimination of whites in college admission. Edward Blum uploaded a video on to the internet
summarizing Abigail Fisher s side of the court case. The video entitled Abigail Fisher vs. University
of Texas at Austinlacks ethos, antagonizes the University of Texas for trying to enlarge their
student diversity, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The University of Texas at Austin video fails to accomplish its goal of portraying Fisher s side of
the lawsuit effectively. This is due to its lack of ethos, ignorance regarding the current economical
stance of non white races, and the right of the University of Texas to enhance their student
diversity. Fisher is blind to the fact that non whites have historically faced discrimination, and
those historical events have affected their societal place today. Her statement saying, A good start
to ending discrimination would be getting rid of the boxes on applications, is erasing both the
history and the identity of people of color (Blum). Joel Spring states, Today, the issue of
classification is tied to the concept of equality of educational opportunity (Spring 128). It is
important to remember that history has affected modern society, and we cannot simply erase the
idea of race and call it equality. Fisher claiming that the inclusion of different races in college
admission being discriminatory against her is insensitive to those who have been affected by

Genealogy Of Morals By Nietzsche
Section 14 in Essay 2 of Nietzsche s Genealogy of Morals , contains rich insight, mainly about
punishment. Punishment is suppose to be the way to awaken the feeling of guilt in someone that
has done some wrong. However, punishment does not succeed in instilling bad conscience, or the
sense of guilt, on the guilty person. When someone is punished, they do not receive a feelingof guilt
. It can lead to two opposite things; either they are are able to become stronger and tougher and take
the punishment, or they have their vitality destroyed and become dehumanized. Nietzsche suggests
that when the person who is guilty sees the person that he wronged cast these acts of punishment on
him out of pleasure, he is blinded by the awful things that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is also known as the creditor and debtor relationship and is thought to be the origin of
traditional justice. This passage as soon I read it really got me engaged. I felt like this was one
of the sections I was able to truly relate to, and apply to my own life. Immediately I began to
think about some of the stories my parents have shared about how my parents were punished
when they were children. Now back in the 1960 s when they were kids, it was okay for their
parents to smack them. It was just normal in society back then. They both agreed that, The
physical discipline they received did not make them feel guilty about what they did. Instead, it
made them scared to do it again. This goes along with what Nietzsche said. My parents stopped
talking back and fighting with their siblings because they were scared of how their parents
would punish them, they did not stop because they felt bad about it. Their vitality was broken
down. I completely agree with it too. When I was a child I got it way easier than my parents did.
When I got punished I was told to go in my room and not able to have any electronics. They would
always tell me, Think about what you did. This was a method of theirs that truly was effective. As
the time went by I would continuously think about how much trouble I caused my parents no

What Is Alex Haley s Role In The Odyssey
Alex haley was born on August 11,1921 where he grew up in Ithaca,New York. Alex Haley served
in the U.S. Coast Guard for two decades before pursuing a career as a writer. He eventually
helmed a series of interviews for Playboy magazine and later co authored The Autobiography of
Malcolm X.
The following decade, Haley made history with his book Roots, chronicling his family line from
Gambia to the slave holding South.
The Pulitzer Prize winning book Roots was turned into a 1977 miniseries that became one of the
most popular TV shows of all time.
Major controversy ensued, however, when Haley was accused of plagiarism and presenting
historical and genealogical inaccuracies. Nonetheless, Roots has remained a groundbreaking work
in the public imagination.

In the aftermath of The Autobiography of Malcolm X, writing and lecturing offers for Haley began
pouring in, and he could have easily lived out his lifelong dream of being a successful independent
author.
Instead, Haley embarked on a hugely ambitious new project to trace and tell the story of his
ancestors journey from Africa to America as slaves; then their rise from slavery to freedom.
During a decade of research on three continents, Haley examined slave ship records at archives in
the United States and England and traveled to Gambia, the home of his ancestors in West Africa.
In his ancestral village of Juffure, Haley listened to a tribal historian recount how Kunta Kinte,
Haley s ancestor was captured and sold into slavery.
Still, despite his meticulous research, Haley often despaired that he could never recapture the true
spirit of his ancestors. He recalled in a 1977 Ebony magazine interview, I asked myself, what right

Logical Fallacies In Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman
What Pity Creates What are logical fallacies? Logical fallacies are defects that weaken
arguments. There are many types of logical fallacies such as the appeal to pity. What is the
appeal to pity? The appeal to pity is where an arguer tries to get people to accept a conclusion by
making them feel sorry for someone. In the play Death of a Salesman, playwright Arthur Miller
uses many logical fallacies, the appeal to pity being the most frequently seen throughout the play.
Linda and Willy use frequent appeals to pity when dealing with their eldest son Biff, creating a
dysfunctional and unhealthy relationship. At the beginning of the play Linda and Willy use the
appeal to pity in the most common way by feeling sorry for Biff. Once again, it... Show more

about the content of Willy s delusions than anyone else in the family does. When Willy was
supposed to have a special night out with his sons, he starts to have one of his many delusions.
Instead of dealing with his father, Biff just got up and left with Happy, his brother right behind
him. Biff and Happy left their father in a restaurant while he was in the middle of one of his
delusions. When Willy finally comes out of his delusion he cannot find either of his sons. That
is when Willy looks up to the waiter and says, But we were supposed to have dinner together,
(Miller Pg. 121 Act 2). When Happy and Biff finally get home later that night they have to face
their mother. Linda is angry and ashamed of both of her sons, especially of her eldest son Biff,
for leaving Willy all alone in the restaurant while he was in the middle of one of his delusions.
Linda believes they treated him worse than they would have treated any other decent human

Ted Kennedy Rhetorical Analysis In Jfk Speech
In the library of his father s house, on July 25th, 1969, Senator Edward Ted Kennedy would
make one of the most important speeches of his political career. Th e Senator was well put
together, his hair in place and his suit pressed, impeccable. He was far away from where the
accident he was to talk about had taken place, the Chappaquiddick. A team of his best speech
writers had been assembled to create this famous speech, and the papers lay out before him upon
the desk. A firm tone and folded hands showed resolve as he began to read aloud. Ted Kennedy
started his speech by setting the time and place of the accident to the forefront of the audience s
mind. He spoke of how he had left the party accompanied by the late Mary Jo Kopechne, who
Edward stated he had no prior private relationship with, nor any knowledge of past conduct that
would lead to disrespectful speculation of her character. Edward gave a clear picture of the events
that night, using descriptive information to build credibility. He stated that he was overcome with a
jumble of negative emotions, making a more personable and emotional connection with the viewers.

whether his reputation was so tarnished that he should resign his seat in the Senate. He used solemn

Executive Branch Essay
The comparison of a state with great plains and a state with mighty mountains seems unimaginable
but very possible, at least on governmental standpoint. The great state of Illinois and one of the
original state, North Carolina, have set up a state government very similar to the federal
government and similar to each other. Their comparisons and contrasts are most noticeable in the
legislative and executive branches.
There are three main parts of an executive branch; The president, the vice president, and the cabinet.

Nebraska which only has a senate and not a house of representatives. The legislative power of the
state of Illinois is vested in the General Assembly, which is composed of a 59 member Senate and a
118 member House of Representatives. North Carolina s Senate has 50 members and their House of
Representatives has 120 members. After those blaring differences Illinois and North Carolina s
Legislature branches are quite similar. Their regular activities are enacting, amending or repealing
laws, passing resolutions, adopting appropriation bills and conducting inquiries on proposed
legislation. Both states legislation acts on amendments to the U.S. Constitution when they are
submitted by Congress, and proposes and submits amendments to the Illinois Constitution for
consideration by voter. During the scenario of an impeachment, both states House of
Representatives has the sole power of impeachment, while the Senate serves as adjudicator. If a
majority of the members of the House vote to impeach, the case proceeds to the Senate for trial. The
Senate cannot impose any punishment on an impeached and convicted office holder other than
removal from office. These two states show multiple similarities in the legislative branch and very
few differences.
As anyone can tell the two great states of Illinois and North Carolina have many similarities and
differences in their legislative and executive branches of state government. Overall, one thing is

Privacy In 1984 Essay
In the novel 1984, George Orwell uses imagery and word choice to demonstrate how much people
value their privacy. This is proven when the citizens learn that the Police Patrol and the government
are spying on them in their homes without them knowing. George Orwell states that he knows
there is someone snooping in his windows all the time. Night or day, it does not matter. He knows
for a fact they are watching his every move. This goes to show that the Police Patrol and

Google and Gmail users found out a very important thing. Google and Gmail do not give much

were reading all the emails received and sent by Gmail uses.. (Jacob 3). This statement is showing
how Google and Gmail can access your private and personal information without you even knowing
they are doing it, which is a very scary thing to think about. In addition to the invasion of privacy
and Gmail reading into your emails, have you ever thought about the Police Patrol and government

The uncertain tone of the novel underlines how much the government listens in to their citizens.
This is true when citizens wonder if they are being watched and also listened to at all times.

In Jeanette Winterson s novel Weight, the author demonstrates how myths have modern personal
relevancies and can encourage each reader to investigate the three main subject matters in their
lives; boundaries, freedom, and guilt. The numerous references to walls throughout the novel
signify the boundaries, which make Atlasstrive for freedom. Winterson s Weight, is a modern

interpreted as the strength and perseverance from within an individual. The wall that Atlas builds
around the Garden of Hesperides is constructed in such a way that it explains freedom and
nothingness that can sometimes be unappreciated. Winterson writes, I built a walled garden, a

mother stirring in her sleep could do as much. A wall well built with invisible spaces will allow
the winds that rage against it to pass through. When the earth underneath it trembles, the spaces
make room for movement and settlement. The wall stands. The wall s strength is not in the

How Does Shakespeare Use Satire In King Lear
Often in literature, the author will use satire to convey his meaning. Many people wonder if
Shakespeare made a satire when writing the play KING LEAR. What makes KING LEAR a satire

question during my essay.
Some people consider King Lear to be a satire. The things that the real King James and the

kings had a lot of pride and liked to be flattered. In the play King Lear wanted his daughter to tell

James defended monarchical absolutism which asserted that kings derived their authority from

Similarities Between The Fur Trade Economy And A Modern...
An Analysis of the similarities and differences between the Fur Trade economy and a modern
oligopoly.
The North American fur trade started in the 1500 s as the result of early, sporadic contact and
trade between aboriginal societies and European fishing crews located off the banks of
Newfoundland and the St. Lawrence region. Animal pelts, which were harvested by the natives,
were exchanged for European goods such as weapons, tools and textiles. The beaver, whose inner
coat was used to make the fashionable felt hat in Europe, was the principal and most valuable pelt
that was traded. By 1600, not only was the felt hat popular, but changing fashion led to widened
brims and thus an increase in the amount of beaver fur required per item ... Show more content on

In essence, the fur trade market was divided amongst these two trading posts. Throughout the 1700
s, both the British and French, vigorously competed with each other for control of the fur trade.
The structure and behavior of both entities resemble the characteristics of firms in oligopolistic
competition. In this essay, the structural and behavioral characteristics of firms in the fur trade shall
be compared and contrasted to the structural and behavioral characteristics exhibited by modern
oligopolies.
In oligopolistic competition, the market is dominated by a few large firms that produce
differentiated or identical goods. For example, the Canadian market for internet service providers is
dominated by Rogers communications, Bell Canada, Telus and Shaw communications. The idea is
that although there may exist other smaller ISP s in Canada, majority of the market share is
controlled by these four companies. The fur trade was structured in a similar fashion with the
market being dominated by primarily two firms, the Hudson s Bay Company and the Northwest
Company. Thus, the fur trade mainly functioned as a duopoly (the most basic form of oligopoly
where the market for a particular product is dominated by only two firms) until the merger of the
two companies in 1821. Furthermore, oligopolies are characterized as having high barriers to entry
that make it difficult for

The Curious Incident Of A Dog In The Nighttime
Author s Style
Writing my recent novel, The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nighttime, was extremely
interesting. The narrator and his point of view is what made my writing style so unique. I wrote
this novel in the first person point of view of a teenage boy affected by Asperger s Syndrome,
Christopher Boone. Writing this novel was unlike anything else I have written. With a main
character that is a mathematical genius yet fails to talk to and understand people, my style was
bound to be unique. Readers get to view the world from the point of view of Christopher in a way
unimaginable.

the chapters off with prime numbers (Christopher memorized ... Show more content on

In The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nighttime, word choice was simple (English wasn t his
strength) and a majority of the sentences were short and simple. Ideas were extremely thought out
since it took him more time to process information. Christopher always seemed to be writing
information that would seem to be common sense to others. For example, in Chapter 11
Christopher wrote Then the police arrived. I like the police. They have uniforms and numbers and
you know what they are meant to be doing.
Since Christopher was a huge fan of Sherlock Homes and solving crimes, I wrote the entire book
in a mysterious mood and tone. The whole book starts and always seems to tie back to the crime
scene where his neighbor s dog is stabbed with a fork. While curiously investigating this,
Christopher uncovers many scandals and secrets that change his life.
My style in The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nighttime was one unlike any other. An
Asperger s Syndrome main character point of view affected my writing style drastically. I wrote
in a way that is very blunt and blind to distinguishing human emotion, lacks common sense, and a
unique perspective. I write this novel from the point of view of a teen who can t tell the
difference between a smile and a frown, and takes jokes seriously. Christopher is only able to

lines was necessary which was done in Table 1. This is done by using the mathematical formula
m=(y2 y1)/(x2 x1) with the y being the y coordinate and x being the x coordinate. To be consistent
the coordinate points at the 10 second and 240 second mark were used to find the slope... Show

The chickpeas in the hottest temperature tested produced the most amount of carbon dioxide
meaning that the cellular respiration rate of the chickpeas was increased. The coldest temperature
tested also produced the least amount of carbon dioxide meaning cellular respiration decreased in
those chickpeas. For the most part the experiment ran more smoothly than expected. A few time
during testing the test chamber was knock over but these accident had a minimal effect on the final
outcome. There were sudden jumps when testing the runs in Figure 1, but the jumps were never
major enough to cause a retrial. These jumps can be attributed to the fact that the carbon dioxide
production was taken every 10 seconds in the 240 second experiment so anything outside
disturbance during that time was reflected in the data. Overall the data completely supports the
hypothesis. The 42В°C run produced the highest slope, the 5В°C run produced the lowest slope,
and the room temperature (22В°) run was in between the two other slopes. The 5В°C run did have
the most amount of ppm s recorded, but this means nothing in the long run since the slope was still
the lowest meaning it produced the least amount of carbon dioxide over the 4 minutes. The results
obtained corresponded with other students in the class who also tested the relationship between
cellular respiration and temperature as well as the studies discussed in the introduction

Summary Of On Thin Ice
In modern times, when individuals think about environmental problems, climate change seems to
always be at the forefront. Whether people learned through the Paris Climate Accord or the internet
about the devastating effects that a warming climate could bring, most of society can at least
acknowledge that climatechange is a hot political talking point. Because of this, more and more
research has been focused on the effects that a changing climate could bring about. Research on the
effects of climate change range from the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and its
effects on global temperatures, to the rate at which glacial iceis melting and sea level rise. This
documentary, On Thin Ice, is concerned with the relationship between a warming climate and the
rate at which the Gangotri Glacierhas been melting over several years. This film discusses the
different effects that a rapidly melting Gangotri has on water scarcity in Indian villages located
downstream as well as the ways that Americans could be affected by this environmental
phenomenon. On Thin Ice begins with the host, David Brancaccio, presenting the main focus of the
film: the effects that a warming climate could have on the endangered Gangotri Glacier. Brancaccio
then introduces Conrad Anker, an accomplished mountaineer and environmentalist. Both
Brancaccio and Anker decide to go on a long hiking trek to see firsthand, the ways that the Gangotri
Glacier has been affected by climate change. Dr. Vandana

Endagerment of the Black Rhino
Endangerment of the Black Rhino The first thought that comes to mind when a person mentions
a rhinoceros is that they are huge and nearly indestructible; however, this is not the case at all.
The population of the black rhinoceros and other rhinoceros in general is quickly diminishing
due to poaching and habitat destruction. In Kenya alone, the population has gone from 20,000 to
less than 600. Their species is classified overall as critically endangered while the subspecies of
Western Black Rhinos has been declared extinct. The species is slowly disappearing and we need
to do what we can to save them before they re all gone. The Black rhinocerosor hook lipped
rhinoceros is separated from the white rhinoceros by their pointed or hooked upper lip that is used
for feeding. The black rhinoceroshas two horns and although it is named the black rhino its
colors range from a dark yellow brown to a gray color. An adult usually weighs 1,800 to 3,100
lbs. but they have been reported as weighing up to as much as 6,400 lbs. They can stand up to
about 6 feet tall and be as long as 9 12 feet not counting an average 2 foot tail. The longer of their
two horns is typically about 20 inches but some have been known to grow up to almost 5 feet.
These horns have many purposes such as intimidation, defense, and feeding. They have thick and
durable skin designed to protect against the harsh environments they live in. Adult black rhinos are
generally solitary creatures with only mothers and

b. Internal audit
Internal environment includes factors that can be controlled by the company such as management,
production, finance, accounting, supply of materials, marketing, public relations (PR), human
resources, information systems, etc. Analyzing these factors helps businesses identify strengths,
weaknesses, then finding out the appropriate strategy. Marketing strategies, marketing systems,
marketing organization, marketing function and marketing productivity are included in the internal
audit.
Marketing strategy audit is about the marketing objectives of Kinh Do and how it relate to overall
objectives. It also concerned about whether Kinh Do has enough resources to achieved these
objectives or not. Marketing systems mentions the procedures for formulating marketing plans and
management control. The structural capability to implement the plan is belonged to marketing
organization. Marketing function is a review of the effectiveness of each element of the mix. The
last area in marketing audit is marketing productivity about how profitable and cost effective the
marketing program is. Kinh Do should use some techniques such as value chain, marketing mix or

Why Pharmacy Is A Chemistry And Biology
Andrew Boss
Amber Collins
STDEV 170
14 October 2015
Pharmacy
Pharmacy is a chemistry and biology orientated health profession that requires great attention to
detail and also good oral and written communication skills. I would enjoy a career in pharmacy
because it combines the two subjects that I enjoy most: chemistry and biology. This profession
would also give me the opportunity to help other people every day. Pharmacy does require several
years of schooling, however, in the long run it pays off very well. Out of all the health professions
available, pharmacy interests me the most.
Job description:
Pharmacists do much more than simply fill prescriptions. They can advise patients about a healthy
diet, ensure that prescribed medication does not conflict negatively with other medications that a
patient is taking, and can even give flu shots. Pharmacists also regularly instruct patients on when
and how to take their medication, coordinate with insurance companies about prescribed
medication, and oversee the pharmacy technicians and interns ( Pharmacists. U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics).
There are four different types of pharmacists: community pharmacists, clinical pharmacists,
consultant pharmacists, and pharmaceutical industry pharmacists. Community pharmacists work in
chain drug stores, and some even run their own pharmacy. They give prescribed medication to
patients, and give advice and occasionally flu shots to them as well. Clinical pharmacists are much
different. They

There Is An Ancient Chinese Proverb, That Goes By “Give
There is an ancient Chinese proverb, that goes by Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime . Today, I would like to discuss my cousin,
Stephanie Lam, who went to Taiwan one summer to teach English in a two week enrichment
program. Her students, ranging from 12 to 17 year olds, came from low income families around
Taiwan, seeking help in learning English, as they do not normally have the proper resources to do
so. Though the language barrier was a formidable obstacle, Stephanie bonded with her students and
other teachers, and greatly improved their English proficiency. Now, thanks to her, they understand

she and her students overcame it together with pointing and various other universal gestures and
facial expressions. This way, the students were encouraged to understand English better to
communicate with their teacher, and my cousin refined her own oral Chinese skills. The
students were kind and willing to help despite [her] poor Chinese, and didn t judge [her] either

English. They respected this, and were eager to help her discover a new culture and improve on
her Chinese abilities. The barrier was still tough for Stephanie, but thanks to the kindness of her
students, it was much easier to bear through and succeed. It was a new and unknown world for my
cousin, but she still made the most of her experience and discovered so much more about East
Asian culture. The program itself was quite informal, and its students were there on a voluntary

Tracy has high standards for herself and the people around her. In the beginning of the movie,
we see Tracy wearing a pant suit. This indicates a sense of dominance. The first traditional
feminine outfit that Tracy wears is when she is mocking the idea of the model hostess.2 The
ruffles on the dress represent foolishness and her distaste of the situation; she was pretending to
be someone she was not. When Tracy feels weak and powerful less, she is half dressed like in a
swimsuit. However when she is dressed up in elaborate gowns, she is calm and vigorous. The
dress she wears for the party before the day of the wedding was the most beautiful gown she s
worn in the movie, she exceeds the expectations for herself of being powerful and of high class.
However, the color of the gown (white) represents that the internal battle Tracy is having on
whether to marry George or do the right thing. Her wedding dress is a mixture of
dominance, similar to her pant suits, and a sense of helplessness. The broad shoulders of her dress
represents that she is not willing to settle for her happiness, but the loose and flowy parts of her
dress represent the feeling of not wanting to disappoint her loved

Fourth Amendment Essay
In the late eighteenth century, after the United States of America achieved their independence from
their former ruler, American leaders decided that their country was in need of a new document to
rule over it. They took upon themselves the task of drafting the Constitution, which has been the
supreme law since its ratification. As part of its Bill of Rights, the Fourth Amendment protects
American citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures . While the internet did not exist for a
couple more centuries, this right that citizens have expands and changes as society does, therefore
internet protection falls under the umbrella of the Fourth Amendment. The government monitoring
the internet could be considered illegal under this fourth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This justifies the previous claims that internet protection should be included in the penumbra of the
Fourth and Fifth Amendments. A few years ago, a former employee of both the CIA and NSA,
Edward Snowden, became a whistleblower as he leaked information pertaining to the illicit
activities of the NSA. One of the NSA programs that Snowden informed the public on was called
XKeyscore, which allowed members of the NSA to search through enormous databases of emails,
online chats, and browsing histories of targets, (Business Insider). The government having the
ability to investigate the internet content of ordinary citizens, in any fashion similar to that of
XKeyscore, is unjust and denies American citizens their rights. The uproaring havoc of the public
following the Snowden leaks reflects how Americans today, as a whole, feel about their internet
content being watched by the government. Recently, the possibility of the FCC removing net
neutrality concerned many citizens, afraid they were possibly going to lose their internet
privileges. While this does not directly correlate to monitoring the internet, it goes to show that
many Americans do not wish to have a reduction in their internet

other is a freelance journalist. In his book Franklin elucidated the impact of globalizationon the

A Short Note On Mission And Mission Of Mars
Wei Jiang
ESS 102
Instructor: Erika Harnett
November 18, 2016
Manned Mission to Mars The year is 2045, a time when the earth is in great turmoil. Tsunamis,
hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, famines... all the impacts of global warming are just starting to
disrupt life. Europe and North America are experiencing immigration in unprecedented numbers,
neither because the migrants are escaping persecution, conflicts and wars in their countries, nor
because they are pursuing economic prospects; but because they can no longer survive the high
temperatures in their countries. Europe and North America have become too warm for their
inhabitants but just the right temperature for migrants from South America, the Middle East, Africa
and South Asia to survive. But the problem is not just global warming and migration there is a
more frightening threat, one that could turn the entire Earth s crust upside down Nuclear War. All
political and diplomatic negotiations have failed, leaving war as the last resort. There is not a
single safe spot on earth to escape to. There is only one option left a place outside earth, a different
planet Mars. The possibility of relocation to Mars comes as big relief to people on earth, but there
is one problem not everybody can go. The mission is too expensive for ordinary people. Only
billionaires and politicians who have stolen (and are still stealing) funds that belong to their states
can afford it. However, the good news for a few lucky people is

My Favorite Students
All it takes is seven seconds to completely assess and categorize a person you ve barely met. This
has happened to everyone, especially as a student. Small visual clues such as one s expression, their
race, gender, demeanor, and clothing, set the precedent for how the teacher will view their students
from the beginning of the school year to the last day. Most favoritism teachers dole out is
subconscious. The reason they may gravitate towards and dote on particular kids could stem from
the initial assessment they made or even bias. Humans tend to gravitate towards others similar to
them. While there is the belief that teachers playing favourites is natural, necessary, and
unavoidable, this behavior is harmful to the student, harmful to their peers, and is often completely
irrational. To begin, the mindset of having a favourite student is harmful to the subject. When kids
are given special treatment, especially at a young age, things can begin to go wrong. The teacher
can excuse misdemeanors that would otherwise be punished. This leads the student to either
believe that they re above rule following and will likely do it again, or become overly sensitized
to criticism and correction. A year of consistent praise and good feedback is also dangerous. The
student may set their standards higher than is realistic, and become disheartened whenever they re
awarded a grade lower than their impossible standards. From nda.org, Mary Beth Solano,
concerning favouritism, expresses,

Public Health Association Of Australia
I would like to suggest further options that can be adopted by the present Government. Nationwide
free information sessions (communicative intervention) targeting pregnant women in antenatal
clinics and parents in schools should be organised about 2 3 times per year. These sessions would
stress on explaining the expected benefits and importance of vaccinations, with question time
periods to enable parents to clear out any doubts. Take home informative brochures would also be
designed and distributed.
Improving access (facilitative intervention) to parents from remote and rural areas is also another
good way to ensure immunisation uptake. Another good idea would be to distribute food vouchers
(distributive approach) to parents coming from the distant rural areas.
We could also focus on monitoring the spread of vaccine preventable diseases, via the ACIR, so as
to detect any outbreak at the earliest possible and take the necessary preventive measures
(communicative intervention).
Policy actors in favour
Probable actors in favour of resolving the issue would be the World Health Organisation, the Public
Health Association of Australia, members of the Government(in particular those working in the
Immunise Australia Program), and health professionals (in particular doctors).
These interest groups would have different objectives which could be achieved by supporting
issues that lead to the increase in childhood immunisation uptake. WHO would be expected to be in

Counseling psychology is one of the many subfields of psychology, but it is the most thought of
when one thinks of a psychologist. This special field helps clients to explore the positive side of

Taking A Gap Year Essay
Take the gap year Every year there are millions of students who graduate high school and the
majority will go to college. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, Of the
3.0 million youth age 16 to 24 who graduated from high school between January and October
2015, about 2.1 million (69.2 percent) were enrolled in college in October. ( College par 3.) The
other nine hundred thousand students will either delay college or have decided to never enter
college. Taking time off between your high school graduation and the start of college, or during
college, is considered a gap year. This time off can be structured, such as traveling for
volunteering. On the other hand, it can be unstructured, such as leisurely activities. Some of the
most prestigious colleges in the United States encourage taking a gap year, including Harvard,
Yale, Princeton, and Cornell. For nearly 40 years, Harvard has recommended this option, indeed
proposing it in the letter of admission. (Fitzsimmons et al. Par. 21). There are a great deal of
benefits to students delaying the start of college and taking a gap year. One of those valuable
benefits is the ability of gaining life experience. When taking a gap year, the student may have the
ability to travel outside their normal life. Traveling gives an individual a new insight and
perspective into the world. According to Bob Clagett, the director of college counseling at St.

had on its front list in 2006 incurred marketing costs of $650,000, and generated $100,000 in
revenue. However, the company s best seller from 2007 incurred marketing costs of $7m, while
generating nearly $12m in revenue (Elberse 2008).
This tried and true method has been used for years, across industries, to great effect basic Pareto
Principal. But the argument can be made that this is not a market driven consumer approach. To
the contrary, this can be seen as an approach that works in the perceived best interests of the firms
(in terms of things like budgeting and projecting), and while it may make some use of customer
opinion data (polls, responses, feedback, market study), it can almost not help but be flawed. In
reality, this may be an example of self fulfilling prophesy, where the blockbuster products sell
successfully, almost arbitrarily, because of the great investment in resources and marketing.
The above scenario is one that the long tail theory tries to directly annihilate. In premise, there may

The Death Of A Rush Hour Horde
The air was heavy with the smell of beer, fumes of cigarettes, smoke stacks from the large
industrial work buildings, and a foul stench reaping from the human labor of long hours, and hard
days. The infamous rush hour horde scurried from cab to bus to train station all seeking an outlet
of relief after a long day, whether it be at a baror where they respectively reside. Jensen, a weary
man with enough corrugation throughout his faceresulting from the tireless stress making him look
20 years older than he truly was, was sitting on a beaten down wooden bar stoolwith one of those
typical red cushions, sleeves rolled up, tie distorted, wiping the grease of his face, and attempting to
signal the bartender, of whom always was scowling.
Hey there, stranger, the woman just out of his peripheral view had said.
At first he didn t even acknowledge it; just another voice among the many in the distance. He was
just kicking his stool in with his big brown work boots and was on the way to his friends at a
nearby table, when he suddenly heard that same woman s voice again:
Hi stranger
But this time, she had come so close to his ear that he could feel her warm breath upon him.
Abruptly stopping in his tracks towards the table, he was now intrigued by this voice, thinking:
Why was this woman speaking to me? Where did I know her from?
Jensen turned. He wouldn t have recognized the voice or the face if any further. She looked aged,
huge bags under her eyes and almost too skinny.

Walt Disney Dyslexia
Dyslexia is inferior to determination, creativity, and passion. An exemplary display of this is Walt
Disney. Walt Disney was born December 5, 1901, throughout his life Walt suffered from the
disability, dyslexia (IMDb). Walt Disney used creativity, determination, innovation, and passion to
overcome his disability and create one of the Worlds biggest and most well known attractions and
characters. Walt Disneycreated The Walt Disney Company this extraordinary company includes a
collection of theme parks such as Disney World and Disney Land and characters such as Mickey
Mouse, Donald Duck and so many more! Walt Disney is not only a role model to kids and adults,
he is also a leader for the world. Therefore, when I was asked to think of a... Show more content on

I believe this little ordeal made Walt realize his passion and creativity in art, and interest in
setting the bar high for the rest of his life. Immediately after, Walt s interest in the arts made his
determination unveil, for the second time Walt beat his disability, Walt set a goal for himself.
Walt s triumph against his disability caused him to peruse and follow through with his passion
for art. Walt s goal was eventually reached, when he got the acceptance letter in the mail to
attend McKinley High School in Chicago, studying art and photography. I feel personally that
doing something of such importance like overcoming a disability even if only two minor times,
but in Walt s case, two major times would set incentive for me to always try as hard as I could
and be determined to do what I wanted to, and so did Walt. At the end of Walt s high school
glory days Walt in his third feat of defeating dyslexia set a goal and was determined to reach it.
The goal was to serve his country. At first Walt enlisted to the military to serve, unfortunately, he
was rejected because of his age. No, that didn t stop Walt, he wasn t going to be put down that
easily instead Walt determined and did the next best thing joined the Red Cross and got sent to
France to serve as an ambulance to

Banana Trade War Between The European Union And The United...
Introduction
In this paper, I will summarize the banana trade war between the European Union and the United
States. I will examine the information, explain the argument, and explain the affects this banana
war has had on economies and laborers. I will also investigate Chiquita s role, the US s retaliation,
examine the rules and regulations of the World Trade Organization(WTO) and explain their role in
the dispute. Lastly, I will provide my assessment of the dispute and how I would resolve it acting
as a representative of the WTO. This paper is outlined to answer each task to ensure evidence is
provided to support my findings regarding the banana trade war.
Should the European Union be forced to end this connection with its old colonies, as the United
States have requested, and buy its bananas from other countries as well?
Yes, just as prominent and successful as the European Union s (EU s) stance has been on this
industry, it can all be dismantled and have greater and more far reaching consequences if they do
not have to buy bananas from other countries as well.
The financial stability of the EU, US, multinational companies, and its laborers can be drastically
impacted. The livelihood, jobs and industries, can impact economies. If these other smaller
countries are not taken care of their economies could collapse or they could resort to illegal drug
industries, illegal immigration, and even drug trafficking which causes more harm than good.

The Computer Of Computer Technology
Since the 1980 s, the growth of the technology sector has been exponential. The introduction of the
personal computer (PC) was the true catalyst for the growth in popularity of computer technology.
With this introduction also came the growth in popularity of being a computer scientist. The code
used to write the software for these personal computers was brand new and easy to use. What made
it easy to use was the fact that the computercode for the PC was very similar to the English
language; whereas, previous computers used punch cards as a way to program them.. This change
was revolutionary because it allowed anyone to learn how to program a computer. This, coupled
with the major computer advancements occurring in the United States, such as the internet, created
the idea that becoming a computer scientist almost guaranteed you a job. At the time, this was true.
The idea still is mostly true, however, many computer science jobs, usually Information
Technology (IT) and other entry level jobs that involve programming, have been moved overseas.
This shift to outsourcing is not very widespread as some people might think, but it could become
widespread with the increase in quality of life and job availability in other countries. The
outsourcing, while currently not a major issue, does have very real consequences for the future.
Such consequences include lack of job availability for college graduates in the United States and, as
a result, an increase in unemployment. Another

  • 4. The Effects Of The Child Beauty Pageant The Negative Effects of the Child Beauty Pageant By: Pamela Wingate English Composition 2 Individual Assignment 5 May 28, 2015 Abstract This paper will explore the negative effects that a beauty pageant has on a child. While many people think that these pageants are an overall good experience for any child this paper contains and explores research paper that will outline the negative effects these pageants have on the children in them, some of them being long term effects. Some of these effects include mental anguish that is formed from children being in these contests and the effects the pageants have on a family as a whole. Together these findings show that perhaps these beauty pageants should not be something that a child should participate in, or be forced into participating in. Keywords: children, beauty pageants, negative, effects The first beauty pageant geared towards children was the Little Miss America Pageant which took place in the 1960 s in New Jersey. Originally participation in these pageants was intended to be for young girls between the ages of 13 and 17. Since then these pageants had a steady following. Pageants aren t the dress up play we knew as little girls, they are a multi billion dollar industry. • 6. Understanding Weaknesses Of The Four Day Workweek Understanding Weaknesses of the Four Day Workweek Four day workweek, like the name suggests, calls for replacing the five eight hour days with four ten hour days without changes in hourly earnings or weekly earnings. Therefore, the same number of hours of work and leisure are provided at the same earnings. The concept of a compressed workweek is not new, even if it is not the norm for most jobs. Proposals to reduce weekly hours of work, a major concern of American labor in the early years of century, are again a serious concern to many people. The 2008 National Study of Employers, released by the Families and Work Institute, found that 38 percent of US firms allow a compressed workweek for some employees. Eight percent permit it for all or most employees (Gardner). When a growing number of employers are considering converting to a compressed four day workweek, it is important to understand positives and negatives of the new work schedule, to analyze a specific example of company that have failed in converting to the new policy, and to understand additional factors to consider before the implementation of the new policy. An advantage brought to employers is that the four day workweek helps companies save money incurred on daily operation. When employees cram 40 hours of work into four days, companies can save energy bills by closing for an extra one day per week. For example, in 2009, Utah became the first state to institute an official four day workweek for all state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Abigail Fisher Vs The University Of Texas At Austin Case... Abigail Fisher vs. The University of Texas at Austin Response Racial discrimination has been a prevalent issue in America since the beginning. After the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s, American society has tried to correct its discriminatory behavior, particularly in the field of education. But some believe this correction to ensure equality of educational opportunity is infringing on the rights of, not minorities, but whites. The Supreme Court Case, Abigail Fisher vs. University of Texas at Austin, tried to combat this issue regarding the discrimination of whites in college admission. This is due to its lack of ethos, ignorance regarding the current economical stance of non white races, and the right of the University of Texas to enhance their student diversity. Fisher is blind to the fact that non whites have historically faced discrimination, and those historical events have affected their societal place today. Her statement saying, A good start to ending discrimination would be getting rid of the boxes on applications, is erasing both the history and the identity of people of color (Blum). Joel Spring states, Today, the issue of classification is tied to the concept of equality of educational opportunity (Spring 128). • 8. Genealogy Of Morals By Nietzsche Section 14 in Essay 2 of Nietzsche s Genealogy of Morals , contains rich insight, mainly about punishment. Punishment is suppose to be the way to awaken the feeling of guilt in someone that has done some wrong. However, punishment does not succeed in instilling bad conscience, or the sense of guilt, on the guilty person. When someone is punished, they do not receive a feelingof guilt . It can lead to two opposite things; either they are are able to become stronger and tougher and take the punishment, or they have their vitality destroyed and become dehumanized. Now back in the 1960 s when they were kids, it was okay for their parents to smack them. It was just normal in society back then. They both agreed that, The physical discipline they received did not make them feel guilty about what they did. Instead, it made them scared to do it again. This goes along with what Nietzsche said. My parents stopped talking back and fighting with their siblings because they were scared of how their parents would punish them, they did not stop because they felt bad about it. Their vitality was broken down. I completely agree with it too. When I was a child I got it way easier than my parents did. The North American fur trade started in the 1500 s as the result of early, sporadic contact and trade between aboriginal societies and European fishing crews located off the banks of Newfoundland and the St. Lawrence region. Animal pelts, which were harvested by the natives, were exchanged for European goods such as weapons, tools and textiles. The beaver, whose inner coat was used to make the fashionable felt hat in Europe, was the principal and most valuable pelt that was traded. By 1600, not only was the felt hat popular, but changing fashion led to widened brims and thus an increase in the amount of beaver fur required per item ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In essence, the fur trade market was divided amongst these two trading posts. Throughout the 1700 s, both the British and French, vigorously competed with each other for control of the fur trade. The structure and behavior of both entities resemble the characteristics of firms in oligopolistic competition. In this essay, the structural and behavioral characteristics of firms in the fur trade shall be compared and contrasted to the structural and behavioral characteristics exhibited by modern oligopolies. In oligopolistic competition, the market is dominated by a few large firms that produce differentiated or identical goods. For example, the Canadian market for internet service providers is dominated by Rogers communications, Bell Canada, Telus and Shaw communications. The idea is that although there may exist other smaller ISP s in Canada, majority of the market share is controlled by these four companies. The fur trade was structured in a similar fashion with the market being dominated by primarily two firms, the Hudson s Bay Company and the Northwest Company. Thus, the fur trade mainly functioned as a duopoly (the most basic form of oligopoly where the market for a particular product is dominated by only two firms) until the merger of the two companies in 1821. The chickpeas in the hottest temperature tested produced the most amount of carbon dioxide meaning that the cellular respiration rate of the chickpeas was increased. The coldest temperature tested also produced the least amount of carbon dioxide meaning cellular respiration decreased in those chickpeas. There were sudden jumps when testing the runs in Figure 1, but the jumps were never major enough to cause a retrial. These jumps can be attributed to the fact that the carbon dioxide production was taken every 10 seconds in the 240 second experiment so anything outside disturbance during that time was reflected in the data. Overall the data completely supports the hypothesis. The 42В°C run produced the highest slope, the 5В°C run produced the lowest slope, and the room temperature (22В°) run was in between the two other slopes. The 5В°C run did have the most amount of ppm s recorded, but this means nothing in the long run since the slope was still the lowest meaning it produced the least amount of carbon dioxide over the 4 minutes. • 23. Summary Of On Thin Ice In modern times, when individuals think about environmental problems, climate change seems to always be at the forefront. Whether people learned through the Paris Climate Accord or the internet about the devastating effects that a warming climate could bring, most of society can at least acknowledge that climatechange is a hot political talking point. Because of this, more and more research has been focused on the effects that a changing climate could bring about. Research on the effects of climate change range from the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and its effects on global temperatures, to the rate at which glacial iceis melting and sea level rise. This documentary, On Thin Ice, is concerned with the relationship between a warming climate and the rate at which the Gangotri Glacierhas been melting over several years. This film discusses the different effects that a rapidly melting Gangotri has on water scarcity in Indian villages located downstream as well as the ways that Americans could be affected by this environmental phenomenon. On Thin Ice begins with the host, David Brancaccio, presenting the main focus of the film: the effects that a warming climate could have on the endangered Gangotri Glacier. Brancaccio then introduces Conrad Anker, an accomplished mountaineer and environmentalist. Both Brancaccio and Anker decide to go on a long hiking trek to see firsthand, the ways that the Gangotri Glacier has been affected by climate change. Dr. Vandana ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Endagerment of the Black Rhino Endangerment of the Black Rhino The first thought that comes to mind when a person mentions a rhinoceros is that they are huge and nearly indestructible; however, this is not the case at all. The population of the black rhinoceros and other rhinoceros in general is quickly diminishing due to poaching and habitat destruction. In Kenya alone, the population has gone from 20,000 to less than 600. Their species is classified overall as critically endangered while the subspecies of Western Black Rhinos has been declared extinct. The species is slowly disappearing and we need to do what we can to save them before they re all gone. The Black rhinocerosor hook lipped rhinoceros is separated from the white rhinoceros by their pointed or hooked upper lip that is used for feeding. The black rhinoceroshas two horns and although it is named the black rhino its colors range from a dark yellow brown to a gray color. An adult usually weighs 1,800 to 3,100 lbs. but they have been reported as weighing up to as much as 6,400 lbs. They can stand up to about 6 feet tall and be as long as 9 12 feet not counting an average 2 foot tail. The longer of their two horns is typically about 20 inches but some have been known to grow up to almost 5 feet. These horns have many purposes such as intimidation, defense, and feeding. Why Pharmacy Is A Chemistry And Biology Andrew Boss Amber Collins STDEV 170 14 October 2015 Pharmacy Pharmacy is a chemistry and biology orientated health profession that requires great attention to detail and also good oral and written communication skills. I would enjoy a career in pharmacy because it combines the two subjects that I enjoy most: chemistry and biology. This profession would also give me the opportunity to help other people every day. Pharmacy does require several years of schooling, however, in the long run it pays off very well. Out of all the health professions available, pharmacy interests me the most. Job description: Pharmacists do much more than simply fill prescriptions. They can advise patients about a healthy diet, ensure that prescribed medication does not conflict negatively with other medications that a patient is taking, and can even give flu shots. Pharmacists also regularly instruct patients on when and how to take their medication, coordinate with insurance companies about prescribed medication, and oversee the pharmacy technicians and interns ( Pharmacists. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). There are four different types of pharmacists: community pharmacists, clinical pharmacists, consultant pharmacists, and pharmaceutical industry pharmacists. Community pharmacists work in chain drug stores, and some even run their own pharmacy. They give prescribed medication to patients, and give advice and occasionally flu shots to them as well. Clinical pharmacists are much different. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As part of its Bill of Rights, the Fourth Amendment protects American citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures . The government having the ability to investigate the internet content of ordinary citizens, in any fashion similar to that of XKeyscore, is unjust and denies American citizens their rights. The uproaring havoc of the public following the Snowden leaks reflects how Americans today, as a whole, feel about their internet content being watched by the government. Europe and North America are experiencing immigration in unprecedented numbers, neither because the migrants are escaping persecution, conflicts and wars in their countries, nor because they are pursuing economic prospects; but because they can no longer survive the high temperatures in their countries. Europe and North America have become too warm for their inhabitants but just the right temperature for migrants from South America, the Middle East, Africa and South Asia to survive. All political and diplomatic negotiations have failed, leaving war as the last resort. There is not a single safe spot on earth to escape to. Small visual clues such as one s expression, their race, gender, demeanor, and clothing, set the precedent for how the teacher will view their students from the beginning of the school year to the last day. Most favoritism teachers dole out is subconscious. The reason they may gravitate towards and dote on particular kids could stem from the initial assessment they made or even bias. Humans tend to gravitate towards others similar to them. While there is the belief that teachers playing favourites is natural, necessary, and unavoidable, this behavior is harmful to the student, harmful to their peers, and is often completely irrational. To begin, the mindset of having a favourite student is harmful to the subject. When kids are given special treatment, especially at a young age, things can begin to go wrong. The teacher can excuse misdemeanors that would otherwise be punished. This leads the student to either believe that they re above rule following and will likely do it again, or become overly sensitized to criticism and correction. A year of consistent praise and good feedback is also dangerous. The student may set their standards higher than is realistic, and become disheartened whenever they re awarded a grade lower than their impossible standards. The introduction of the personal computer (PC) was the true catalyst for the growth in popularity of computer technology. With this introduction also came the growth in popularity of being a computer scientist. The code used to write the software for these personal computers was brand new and easy to use. What made it easy to use was the fact that the computercode for the PC was very similar to the English language; whereas, previous computers used punch cards as a way to program them.. This change was revolutionary because it allowed anyone to learn how to program a computer.
