Compare And Contrast The Sniper And The Man He Killed
Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind. John Fitzgerald Kennedy wrote
this quote to the UN General Assembly on September 25, 1961. In other words Kennedy is saying that
people should stop war because war tears people apart. In the writings The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty
and The Man he Killed by Thomas Hardy they also talk about how war tears people apart. These two
writings are both very similar although they have some differences in literary devices plot, irony, and
theme.
In these two works there are similarities and differences in plot. A similar plot from both stories is that
the protagonist, a soldier, had to kill someone. He must kill the enemy that enemy and he could not
use his rifle. (O Flaherty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If it wasn t for war, in both stories, they would have been friends. When the sniper reached the
laneway on the street level, he felt a sudden curiosity as to the identity of the enemy sniper whom he
had killed. (O Flaherty 208) In this quote from the The Sniper the main character wants to know the
person he killed, because he might like him and wanted to be friends with him. In the two stories the
main characters were both good people and felt remorse. You d treat if met where any bar is (Hardy
19) If both the men weren t soldiers, they would have met at a bar and had a drink together. The story
The Sniper has situational irony. Suddenly from the opposite roof a shot rang out and the sniper
dropped his rifle with a curse. (O Flaherty 207) The shooter wasn t expecting this outcome, because he
got shot instead of the other guy. In the poem The Man He Killed there is verbal irony. I shot him dead
because because he was my foe (Hardy 9 10) The man he killed was only his enemy on the battlefield,
but he felt like the could have been friends. Irony plays a big part in both writings because both the
men could ve been friends if they weren t soldiers at

Delaware Horses History
There is a trail down the road in Delaware where I enjoy taking my dog for a walk. It is a beautiful,
five mile loop traversing cornfields, thick patches of forest, steep hills and flowing streams; a
wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle of the suburban lifestyle and spend some time amongst
the peacefulness of nature. It is not a complete escape, however, for I am not the only person that
knows of the trail it seems to also be a favorite of horseback riders. Often times I will encounter a
rider or two at some point during my walk and, without fail, I will be in awe of the size and majesty of
the horse. What an incredible, gentle beast it is. Standing next to a horse, you cannot help but gawk at
the bulging, toned muscles and long, agile legs. It is truly an athlete with a rare combination of
strength and speed. Yet, they are gentle and kind and have therefore been joined at the hip with
humans; today, nearly all horses have been domesticated. So I find myself ... Show more content on

From its early stages as a 40 cm tall, 25 kg Eohippus to its current state as a 1.6 meter tall, 500 kg
beast, every step can be traced through an abundance of fossils located mostly right here in the United
States. While the changes in equids from their beginnings until now are drastic, I found it interesting
that it was not necessarily gradual. Most of the changes in size, structure and teeth did not happen
until the Miocene, upon which the development was rapid. Figure 5 shows the mass of Equid genera
in comparison to when they lived. For the first half of equid development, barely any change occurred.
This displays how important environmental factors are in the evolution of species; without the
emergence and prominence of open grasslands in the Miocene, horses as we know them today would

Designing primers and optimisation of a Real Time PCR assay
Introduction
This essay based on the principle of real time PCR which uses CYBR green dye that combines to any
double stand DNA. This process included two maim steps. The first step was designing of HSV 1
primer and /or HSV 2 primer (we have chosen only HSV 1). BioEdit software has been used to edit
the nuclide sequences where necessary. After that the primer has been ordered. The second step was in
the laboratory which included applying the HSV 1 primers to real time PCR protocol. The final results
of this protocols aim to demonstrate the quality of HSV 1 primer that we have designed by
interpretation three criteria. These are specificity, efficiency and ... Show more content on

Whereas the reaction products are not specific the SYBR green dye added to the reaction mixture to
quantitatively indicate the amount of dsDNA in the reaction mixture by providing amplification plot
and melt curve as well as the melt temperature plot that used in may offers useful information about
the sensitivity of the DNA template in the sample (Giglio, Monis and Saint, 2003).
From PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix kit two reaction mixtures have been prepared.
Reference primers (PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix, forward primer, reverse primer and
ultrapure water).
Own primer (PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix, the forward primer we have ordered,
reverse primer we have ordered and ultrapure water).
PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix designed to avoid the reamplification of PCR products
by clearing any uracil combined to into single or double stranded components by uracil DNA

When the mixtures ready and added to Applied Biosystems wells we have run them to PCR machine
as these conditions activation at 50 °C for 2 minutes and at 95°C for 2 minutes and Amplification at
95 °C for 1 seconds; 60 °C for 30 seconds × 40 (Applied Biosystem, 2010).
Results: Figure 1 : Please note : by accident we added HSV 2 to tube 1 instead of HSV 1 but later we
modified the PCR machine as the new order.

Why Is The House Of Lords Effective
The House of Lords is certainly one of the most highly debated parts of the British government. It has
been critiqued and reformed many times over the course of hundreds of years, and has continued to
come under scrutiny in modern British politics as well. While some feel that the House of Lords is
ineffective and an unnecessary part of British government. Others view the House of Lords to be more
influential and relevant than it is often given credit for. Although both perspectives on this debate
create valid points as to why the House of Lords is, or is not beneficial to British politics. It is clear
that the House of Lords, despite being flawed and in need of reform, does serve an important and
unique role in Parliament that has a positive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However this is not always the case. One simple but very prevalent criticism of the House of Lords is
that it is simply not relevant or useful in modern British politics. This is perhaps one of the most easily
disputable arguments concerning the House of Lords. This argument against the House of Lords has
been present in British politics almost since its inception. Despite this the House of Lords has
continued to grow in numbers and change in its political power, and cultural influence. Much like the
role of the Monarchy, the House of Lords is largely symbolic in its purpose. Although it does have
some remaining political power, the House of Lords has been largely symbolic for hundreds of years
due to its lesser status, and the reforms that led to this status. The House of Lords may not be as
optically influential as the House of Commons. This enables the House of Lords to have much more
historical and cultural significance. A more specific example of the cultural significance of the House
of Lords is the continued inclusion of Spiritual Lords. Despite the fact that church attendance has
continued to decline, the Church of England remains an integral part of British history. The inclusion
of these Spiritual Lords of most certainly nearly entirely ceremonial, and continued for the sake of
tradition. Although some may consider this to be unnecessary, many

They Call Me Humor Analysis
They Call Me Professor Humor I possess the character strength of humor because I do not need a
script for a joke and can light up the room with just a few actions. For example, humor can save a
party or even spread happiness and comedy to others as I displayed one time when I was at my friend
s house and I broke out some dance moves which made his day. Humor does not only apply to those
who are in a time of depression, humor also allows friends to tell stories and talk more freely. Comedy
attracts crowds of people since they want to smile and live their life as happy as possible. Additionally,

The field of psychology has made great advancement in the way of treating disorders. For example,
before Pinel s approach in 1745, disorders were perceived as demonic possession. Pinel and others
proposed that mental disorders were not caused by demonic possession, but environmental factors like
stress and inhumane conditions. Pinel s moral treatment involved improving the environment,
replacing the asylum beatings with patient dances (PSY111: Module 9 Lecture, 2015, Dietz). Thanks

What Is Imperialism
Imperialism In this paper, we will be discussing three different types of literature, short stories, and
poems. We will dig deep into the true meaning of these pieces of work. To bring forth how they felt
about the imperialism. So as we go forth into the wonderful works of these amazing writers, we will
dig deep to get the truth behind the words. So here we go let s get this started. Appearing in Orwelll s,
Shooting an Elephant, it brings to the table of imperialism. He says that imperialism is that not just the
conqueror, but the conquered are destroyed (Orwell, 1936). He shows that even though you have your
own ideas, you feel as if you have to because of either the position they are in society or just in
general. He describes as if you end up doing what they want you to do, you are losing and giving up a
part of your freedom. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He brings the motivations of war to light. He calls them as blind patriotic and religious motivations for
war (Twain, 1923). People in war ask for their soldiers to be protected, and as what happens in the
poem a messenger for God comes to them and tells them that this is wrong. It is a great shock but in
the end, they end up not believing him, saying he is not that even though their society has said that
war is the answer. That this guy who says he is a messenger for God, is wrong, and that s what
imperialism does it makes you want to not go against them. Next in the White Mans Burden, you see
how the people who are precedent are bringing imperialism to their country. It is showing that they put
a blind up after their people. To make them feel as if they are superior that they are doing good, and
the people who are being told this have no clue how much they look so opposite of what they think.
That is how it is, people put blinds over them to keep them from seeing how they are really being
treated or how they are treating others (Kipling,

The, Suspense, And The Unknown Essay
Detective novels of the mystery genre have always been fraught with terror, suspense, and the
unknown. Normally those such novels are subject to the public eye under the scrutiny of just how
much of it is real or simply superstition and science fiction just sensational writing. Sensational
writing in and of itself is not supposed to be thought provoking to the reader, but instead plays off the
reader s baser emotions that center around adrenaline like fear and excitement. While A Study in
Scarlet, by essence of being a detective novel, is still considered sensational writing, it brought a level
of subtleness to the sensationalism that evoked a deeper response in the readers. One particular event
where the sensationalism was extremely downplayed was the murder itself in the novel. For the police
detective Gregson and Lestrade, their biggest question at the scene of the crime was not really who
murdered but how he murdered as there was not any noticeable blood or wounds on the victim.
Lestrade even goes so far as to remark, This case will make a stir, sir...It beats anything I have seen,
and I am no chicken (Doyle 25). The unusual circumstances of the death cause the reader to think
deeper about how the victim could have possibly died, subtly ensnaring the reader to be even further
interested. Fear of the unknown is the greatest thing subtly sensationalism can do since it can evoke a
greater response in a few words than what pages of grotesque description can do. If Doyle

Tragic Figure In Antigone
In Sophocles Antigone, Kreon and Antigone encountered opposing obligations torn between their duty
to their people and Thebes and their duty to their family and gods. While Kreon ultimately chose his
people and Thebes, Antigone chose her family and gods. This conflict of obligation between the two
caused the strife between the two and resulted in the demise of both characters. They could both
represent tragic figures, but Kreon is the most tragic figure in the play. His adherence to his duty as
king to his people and Thebes over his duty to his family resulted in the death of his family, thus he
must live the rest of his life acknowledging the fact that the loss of his loved ones was caused by his
pride and stubbornness. This outcome is far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite her focus on her obligation to family leading to her downfall, she is not the most tragic figure
in the play. In Sophocles Antigone, Antigone chose her brother over her community s unjust laws
imposed by Kreon. Her reason for such a defiance is best summed up by her response to Ismene when
she reveals her plan to break the law. You be as you think best, but I shall bury him. I ll lie there, dear
to him, with my dear friend, when I ve performed this crime of piety; for I must please those down
below a longer time than those up here, since I shall lie there always (71 76). It is clear from this
conversation between the two that Antigone feels an obligation to her family and brother to give him
the proper burial. She makes it clear that her brother was very dear to her and she loved him deeply.
Her deep love for him made her capable of defying her community s laws and face death. She would
rather lie in death next to her brother than never see her brother given the proper customary burial that
all in the community receive. This deep love is also shown to her sister as she is willing to deny that
her sister knew anything about her plan in order to ensure her sister does not get harmed.

Leadership Styles From The Point Of View
Comparative Analysis
The articles under analysis explore leadership styles from the point of view of their relation to gender
(Merchant, 2012) and personality (Yahaya et al., 2011). Merchant (2012) provides a valuable research,
which is focused on gender as the major determinant of leadership styles in individuals. Providing an
analysis of literature, Merchant (2012) indicates that many studies analyzing the intersection of gender
and influence tactics have resulted in mixed finding (p. 24). It proves the argument that gender
stereotypes play a major role in attributing particular roles for females and males on the basis of their
biological sex and what is expected of them. Whereas Merchant (2012) does not present a particular
argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I happened to work under both female and male leadership, and I should admit that the difference
between them is not evident everything depends on personality, and dissimilarities in influence tactics
are attributed to situational circumstances such as individual setting (Merchant, 2012, p. 26).
Personal Leadership Style
My leadership style is both Participative and Democratic, and it is influenced by the three variables
gender, personality, and age. Democratic Leader makes the final decision, only after receiving the
input and recommendations of all team members, (Goetsch, 2002). I focus on getting to the bottom of
the problem with working through it.
Effect of Gender
Though gender is a contradictory variable in affecting leadership styles, I should note that gender does
play an important role in the way I influence other people. In this aspect, I should agree with Merchant
(2012), who indicate, women value cooperation [...] and have a less clear focus on where the
boundaries of their friendships end and their individual identities begin (p. 18). As a female, I feel I
have to work harder than a male doing the same job. Even though, I feel that I have to work harder
than a man, I also think that it s not always about your gender, but how a person is a leader. Kanter,
argues that males and females who occupy the same organizational role theoretically differ very

Gilgamesh Is A Hero
Since long ago, people carried an image of what it means to be a hero. It is evident in some great
books one might even say. As in The Epic of Gilgamesh, Antigone, and The Iliad, heroism is
displayed and exalted, but what does being a hero mean? Overarchingly, in regards to these works, the
heroes earn their titles as heroes by notably doing what is right when the time is right, with humane
purpose, and an everlasting message. However, Gilgamesh, Antigone, and Akhilleus, being different
in their purposes, everlasting messages, type of heroism as whole, can not compare in regards to
heroic status.

displayed an everlasting message. In The Epic of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end of the epic, after his epiphany, Gilgamesh returns to his kingdom, able to rule as a true
leader, respecting his people, and his people respecting him. Gilgamesh displays this growth at the end
of the Epic as he admires his city, Survey its foundations, examine the brickwork! , Did the Seven
Sages not lay its foundations? (Gilgamesh 11.324,236) This was his act of of good. Realising what it
takes to rule his kingdom, not like a tyrant, was what his message was. What truly made Gilgamesh a
hero was his transformation from being a tyrant to a good king. Gilgamesh lived on through the
foundations of his Kingdom, in a way, making him mortal. As people continue to study the epic, one
might even suggest Gilgamesh obtained immortality as being remembered a hero.
Antigone too was a hero, however, in a different way. While displayed a message, she did good, and
had purpose, it was all slightly different than Gilgamesh. Antigone stood against the King, Creon, her
uncle, who ruled tyrannically. With this, her message shared some parallel to Gilgamesh, suggesting
that if a Tyrant is in power, change is needed. She criticized her uncle for not being a king of the
people, as he made it illegal to bury one of her brothers. Despite Creon being king, she expressed, But
he s no right to keep me from what s mine (Antigone line 60). Antigone actively expresses that being a
king does not give one absolute right over every person. Through this, she is able to send the a

The Concept of Encounter of Cultures in the Philosophy of History
ABSTRACT: A general problem of philosophical interests concerns the possibility of objective
knowledge of other cultures and a past culture, as well as the adequacy of their reconstruction. The
problem of cultural development is also crucial. By the criterion I develop, a culture which has
expanded its potentialities in various independent forms is an open culture able to enter into dialogue
with any other culture. 1. To begin with, I must mention that at first I intended to present my paper at

The phenomenon of encounter of cultures has been known and described long ago, but in its definite
meaning the theoretical analysis of the phenomenon may be dated by the late 19th and early 20th cc.,
the period of shaping of contemporary anthropology and philosophy of history. In this connection, in
the field of the philosophy of history the work of Arnold Toynbee ought to be mentioned who has put
forward a conception and a model for systematic representation of the whole diversity of historical
facts concerning the encounter of societies, civilizations, cultures in space and time, (1) and, in the

Historical Reality Of The Resurrection Research Paper
The Historical Reality of the Resurrection
There are four main arguments used to deny the historical reality of the Resurrection. In this essay, I
will explain why they are not supported by the facts of the matter
The first main argument is the classic stolen body argument. Obviously this story is fake because there
were usually about 16 roman guards in a patrol, and all of them had different sleep patterns, therefore,
at least one of them must have been awake at all times. Also, the boulder in front of the tomb was
huge, and there s no way the apostles could move it without waking up the roman guards.
The second main argument is that Jesus did not die, but actually faked his death. Clearly this is false
because the Romans and perfected

Etiology Of Schizophrenia Essay
Schizophrenia is a mental illness which affects the lives of the individual, their families and society
(Murray Lopez, 1996). The term Schizophrenia is often utilized to describe a major psychotic disorder
that alters the way an individual think, feels or acts (NCCMH, 2010). It is often worth noting that each
person who develops this mental illness possess their own unique combinations of symptoms and
experiences. Schizophrenia has been the subject of an ongoing controversy regarding its etiology and
treatment. Biological, environmental and social factors play a pivotal role in understanding
Schizophrenia and determining the outcomes. An individual suffering from Schizophrenia are usually

Research that has been conducted so far has attempted to determine the role of biological,
psychological and social factors but unfortunately, evidence does not point to any single factor.
Literature suggests that the etiology of schizophrenia and related psychoses results from a complex
interaction of multiple factors (Broome et al., 2005; Garety et al., 2007). Nuechterlein Dawson (1984)
suggest that much of the conducted research on the etiology of schizophrenia is consistent with the
vulnerability stress model. The vulnerability stress explains that individuals have different levels of
vulnerability to the mental illness schizophrenia. These levels are determined by the interaction
between biological, social and psychological factors. The research of Neuchterlein Dawson (1984)
proposed that vulnerability results in the development of problems if there was a presence of
environmental stressors. This proposal states that if there is great vulnerability, low levels of stress
might be sufficient to cause problems. On the other hand, if an individual possess less vulnerability,
problems only arise with higher levels of stress. Although the etiology of schizophrenia is not well
understood, this model is consistent with a variety of putative causes of this mental disorder, in
addition to the differential relapse and readmission rates that are overserved among people suffering

Phaethon And Icarus Analysis
The two myths, Phaethon and Daedalus and Icarus, describe the fatal mistake of 2 foolishly ambitious
young boys. Throughout the two texts the authors, Bernard Evslin and Geraldine McCaughrean, who
respectively rewrote Phaethon and Daedalus and Icarus, use the literary elements of characterization
and imagery to convey their shared theme. Through the use of characterization and imagery, both
mythological protagonists, Phaethon and Icarus, demonstrate a common lesson that a prideful
disregard of the warnings from those who are older and wiser can quickly lead to disastrous
consequences. First, in the story of Phaethon, Phaethon is characterized as a thoughtless and
headstrong boy. These characteristics lead to catastrophic results, and help relate back to the main
theme; A prideful disregard of the warnings from those who are older and wiser can quickly lead to
disastrous consequences. For example, while driving the sun chariot and contemplating flying closer
to Earth so everyone will see him, Phaethon exclaims, Apollo said not to come too close to the Earth,
but how will he know? And I won t stay long, just dip down towards the villages. (53). This implies
the Phaethon does not think about his actions, nor their consequences, and only does what benefits
him and his reputation. Another adjective that could be used to describe Phaethon is stubborn, which
is also demonstrated in this quote. It illustrates the idea that Phaethon was being overconfident and

Forty two years has passed since the Fall of Saigon 1975, yet still the Vietnam War and its aftermath

the harsh realities of war. The authors of the novels , Falling Through the Earth and Matterhorn use

Immigrant Refugee
This article explains and show the immigration crisis today in Europe and how it might still yet to get
worst. In Europe as it is today, has been serving as a major ground for immigrant refugees. There is
over sixty million displaced people and refugees, numbers not even heard of during the period of
WW2 coming from not only seria but from other regions like Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa and even Haiti.
The must striking thing about this crisis, is that it is still expected to get worst. Say if the tailaban keep
trying to extend their territorial gains across Afghanistan, this will force afghans to want to migrate.
Due to this attacks, about one hundred thousand afghans are expected to migrate to Europe this year.
These numbers increase daily as these refugees try to escape thier home countries due to terrosm or
other unpeace conditions. For example many inhaptants of Iraq are already homeless, daily amid
wartime shortages of food and medicine and persistent bombardment by Isis . Yemen is not much
farther away from Europe than eritia now the biggest source of African refugees, just across the Red

The Possibility Of Integrating Critical Thinking For...
Chapter Two: Investigating the Possibility of Integrating Critical Thinking in English Language
Teaching Introduction Montaigne views that saying is one thing; doing is another thing (qtd. in
Robson 191). This insinuates that what one says might be different from what s/he does, hence the
necessity when enquiring about the possibility of integrating critical thinking in English Language
Teaching. This chapter is devoted to the investigation of the hypothesis of the study, whether critical
thinking could be incorporated in English Language Teaching. This chapter is undertaken with this
spirit, we will start our investigation by introducing the population of the study. Then, we describe,
analyze and interpret the questionnaires results. It will help us confirm or disconfirm our hypotheses
about possible correlation between critical thinking and language teaching. We provide two sections,
first, we deal with the students questionnaire followed by its analysis, and then, we will move to do
the same with teachers questionnaire. 2.1. Methodology 2.1.1. Hypothesis It is worth to reiterate our
research hypothesis: Incorporating the teaching of critical thinking skills may enhance EFL students
mastery of the field, and raise their awareness about their own learning, thereby, they become
autonomous. 2.1.2. Population What is worth being mentioned is that the reason behind opting for
master students to be the case of our study is their level of mastery

Blindness In The Country Of The Blind
The society questions why it is so challenging to communicate with foreigners. The Country of the
Blind is a short story first published in 1904 by H.G. Wells. He is well known for his science fiction
novels. This short story is focusing on sight and blindness and brings up the theme of prejudice versus
learning. In the novel we follow a traveller, who ends up in an unfamiliar strange place, which set him
in learning trail, figuring out who he really is. How does the writer illustrate the difficulties with
foreigners in this short story?
The protagonist Nunez is a mountain climber, who accidentally falls into a valley inhabited with blind
citizens, isolated from the rest of the world. There he falls in love with a woman from the valley that
leaves Nunez back with a difficult choice. When Nunez first arrives to the valley, he feels he has an
advantage in relation to the other habitants in the valley, remembering an old phrase saying, In the
Country of the Blind the One eyed Man is King. He tries to teach the blind people about sight and
convince them that it is an excessive ability to have. Even though Nunez tries very hard to persuade
the blind citizens, they do not understand, which certainly makes him frustrated. The blind inhabitants

In the story H.G. Wells illustrates the difficulties with foreigners by creating a world inhabited with
blind people, that Nunez with sight randomly bumps into. The fact that he puts a person, who values
the sight so much into a world where it does not exit, makes it hard for Nunez to adapt to their
country. Nunez also gets easily misunderstood because he has such strong beliefs for a thing, the blind
citizens cannot understand. Nunez sacrifices his need for being loved and in return he keeps his sanity.

Apple Ipod And The Ipod
The alarm clock rings and its time to go for a jog and get the morning routine off to a good start. After
my morning walk, I take a shower while listening to my favorite high energy time to wake up music.
The weather channel says it is going to be a rainy morning, so I grab my umbrella and head for the

Hard Times At Douglas High Essay
Hard Times at Douglass High shows a troubled urban school that has a hard time adjusting to the no
child left behind policy . This school struggles with not enough money, not enough staff, and student

I believe that the high school best represents the conflict theory. I think this because all there is in the
halls of Douglas high is conflict. Whether to go to class or hang with friends, go to school or roam the
streets. In the definition or conflict theory it says that conflict promotes change and thats exactly what
you see happening throughout the move. That change isn t always for the better but change is change.

I really liked how the filmmakers followed all the problem down to the personal level. For example

parent. I can t name one person who lives in a home with the mother and the father. I wish I could.
Another problem facing the school is the lack of support from parents. I believe that the blame extends
beyond teachers and administrators. For example in the auditorium on Back to School Night. The film
shows the principal, at the podium enthusiastically welcoming the parents to the school. But then, the
camera pans back to reveal only a few parents in attendance. I was shocked with the science teacher
who said only one parent visited his classroom during the back to school event. And then how he says

Mao Zedong Thesis
As a result of the Chinese Civil War, the cultural identity of China was left in the hands of Mao
Zedong. During the 19th century, China had veered away from it s dynastic rule and became
imperialized by countries such as England, Germany, France and Japan. They broke China up
economic gain. As said in a text book written by Ethel Wood, This era left many Chinese resentful of
the foreign devils who they eventually rebelled against (AP CGP) In contrast, when Chairman Mao
came to power, China changed completly. Mao Zedong s belief was heavily motivated by Vladimir
Lenin and Marxism. Rooted in the idea of community and the strength of the peasants, He believed
that he could make China a powerful nation and steer his citizens away from Western

Metaphors In Brokeback Mountain
In Ang Lee s film Brokeback Mountain, two men, Ennis and Jack, cross paths and develop a complex,
taboo relationship that neither of them can explain. They lose their wives, children, and ultimately feel
as if they lose their own grasp of who they are as men while exploring their feelings for each other.
Nature and the surroundings of Ennis and Jack play a vital role in understanding the mood of the
situation and their feelings throughout the story. The story is primarily expressed through its
surroundings; this is how the emotions of the characters are expressed. Instead of being
straightforward, the nature is a more meaningful and effective way to illustrate their feelings. Annie
Proulx, the author of the short story, uses metaphors and imagery ... Show more content on

Lee incorporates the sound of wind to illustrate the metaphor of insecurity. The opening scene with the
truck driving through the hills includes several extreme long shots with a cold, dark atmosphere and
sharp, unwelcoming music and the sound of wind, which returns when Ennis is leaning against his
trailer moments later. These scenes foreshadow the events to come with Jack and the feelings of
lostness and insecurity that Ennis feels. In the scene after Jack and Ennis s first sexual encounter in the
tent, Ennis and Jack are horsing around in the field while Joe, their boss, watches them in disgust.
During this scene, the wind is loud and the trees shake, representing distress and negativity. The wind
is recurring and often is meant to express the feelings they can t explain with words. Ennis feels as if
his feelings for Jack are not accepted by society and therefore, by himself, either. When Ennis goes to
Jack s home to see his parents, the atmosphere in the house is extremely unwelcoming. The
surroundings represent the feelings of insecurity and being an outcast in the home that Ennis feels.
The cold, stark atmosphere of Jack s home illustrates the christian judgement that Ennis and Jack feel
from their families. Even in the beginning of the film, Ennis is leaning against the trailer and there is a
church steeple in the background, foreshadowing the judgement from society. Ennis feels extremely
cornered and insecure by Jack s father and their home. While Ang Lee and Annie Proulx take slightly
different angles to the story, they both find ways to portray the same

Mao Zedong Ideology
Mao Zedong as a Chinese Nationalist
Anthony Trang
HST/REL 111
Professor Rush
12/01/2017
Mao Zedong was a man who went down in history as a terrible person who ruled with an iron fist. He
was, however, a man who worked hard for his country. As defined by Merriam Webster dictionary,
loyalty and devotion to a nation; especially : a sense of national consciousness exalting one nation
above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to
those of other nations or supranational groups. Mao is certainly someone who would be called a
nationalist. While Mao was in charge he had a few big objectives which were all for, in his eyes, the
good of the country.
One of his objectives was unifying China by eliminating warlords and getting rid of outsider
influence. Mao initiated sweeping campaigns against bribery, corruption, and tax evasion, among
other things, in order to eliminate the previous chaos and instability that had been created in China s
fractious warlord ruled past. The warlords in the past had caused so many of the problems that Mao
had to live with as there was so much corruption which lead to there being many poor people. A series
of bad harvests in Hunan led to outbreaks of famine, and some of the desperate Hunanese formed a
group under the slogan Eat Rice Without Charge, and seized stores of rice from the wealthier farmers.
Among the shipments they seized was one that Mao s father was sending to the

The Second And Current Republic
Introduction
From French revolution in 1789, France has had five different republican systems. The fifth and
current republic was an outcome to the Algerian crisis in 1950 s.
The First Republic began with the fall of King Louis XVI in 1792 and ended with Napoleon
Bonaparte declaring himself emperor of the First French Empire in 1804. After Napoleon s empire had
ended, a period of monarchies followed, until the 1848 Revolution saw the birth of the Second
Republic, paradoxically enough with the election of Napoleon s own nephew, Napoleon III, as its first
president. The Second Empire collapsed in 1870 with the catastrophic war against the Prussians,
which the French soundly lost. That same year, the Third Republic was created. Although the Third
Republic had a long life, it was on the other hand quite unstable. In the period from 1929 to 1939,
there were 18 different governments. The Third Republic ended in 1940 with the German occupation
of France. The Fourth Republic was established after the war and officially put in place in 1946 and
successfully led France to an economic recovery after Second World War. This essay discusses about
the constitution of French fourth republic on 13 October 1946 with the Liberté, égalité, fraternité
motto, head by Charles de Gaulle.

Black Texans Essay
When one thinks of African American history in the United States, images of slavery and the
antebellum south are what invariably come to mind. While these images are indeed apt and applicable
to understanding black history in the United States, as Alwyn Barr demonstrates in his text Black
Texans: A History of African Americans in Texas, 1528 1995, the history of African Americans in the
U.S. date farther back than slavery and encompasses regions other than what has become known as
the deep south.
Evaluating the book overall, it is evident that Barr s central purpose for writing the book was to make
clear how the black community and culture developed in Texas. While this is not implicitly stated, the
chronological context of the books ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because little historical discourse on blacks in Texas has been published, Barr must rely on primary
sources as his main focus for research. Although some secondary material is used, especially for
analysis of modern black communities in Texas, Barr widely utilizes primary information. Seeking to
assess the effectiveness of this method, it is evident that while some of the information presented in
the text is somewhat dry, primary source material was best suited to meet the author s objectives
overall. Because primary sources are the central focus of the work, the integrity of what Barr writes
cannot be refuted.
Examining how the book enhances the reader s understanding of Texas history, it could be asserted
that Barr s exposition provides a considerable amount of insight into the development not only of the
black community but also the development of the state in general. Barr shows that blacks played an
integral role in the development of Texas: a fact that is often overlooked by many historians. Even
though the book provides a considerable amount of insight, however, it is overall quite dry. As such,
the book would probably be useful for history students, graduate students and instructors looking to
discover more about Texas or black history.
Even though the text is dense at times, the author does a compelling job of presenting the

The Arab Spring is a new term tossed in December 2010, and it covers all kinds of riots,
demonstrations and civil wars recently going on in the Arab world. The Arab Spring has established;
the power social media can have when applied in social and political scenario. In just a short period of
three years, there were changed regimes in four Arab countries (Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Yemen).
There were protests and demonstrations in other Arab countries like Bahrain, Syria, Algeria, Iraq,
Jordon, Kuwait, Morocco and Sudan. Small scale protests were also held in countries like Mauritania
Oman, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Western Sahara, and the Palestinian territories. Sectarian clashes in
Lebanon were described as a spillover of violence from the Syrian uprising and hence the regional
Arab Spring. Despite the efforts by governments across the Arab countries, to not to allow the protests
and demonstration held, effective use of social media has helped to organize protests, communicate
with masses and raise awareness among the people. A major slogan of the demonstrators in the Arab
world has been to bring down the regimes. In this paper an effort has been made to identify the help
provided by social media in Arab spring, reasons for Arab nations going to social media instead of
mass media and an analysis on future of social media in Arab world.

The article What should the U.S. do about ISIS? Show Sunnis we care by Charles Lister is about what
Charles Lister thinks the United States should do to combat ISIS. It has a prescriptive issue and a
conclusion. A prescriptive issue is a question about how the world should be. A conclusion is an

ambiguity is also present in Lister s article. Significant ambiguity is a word or statement that is

writing. In the first paragraph he states that the United States cannot defeat ISIS militarily. The U.S.

In 1980, Zimbabwe after being liberated, the government vigorously invested in all sectors of the
economy (health, education, mining, universal access to services but this in turn led to the government
budget deficits in the mid 1980s and forced the government to look for ways to finance its excessive
expenditure. Zimbabwe was then persuaded to implement ESAP. The programme was to run from
year 1991 to 1995.
ESAP was a package with instruments to be adhered to, and these were the components:
1. Reduction of government expenditure through privatization
2. Removing wage controls
3. Removing controls on exchange rates
4. Removing subsidies on basic goods
5. Removal of price control measures
The basis of these components was to let the market control the economy and reduce government bills

David Fagonard The Swing
The term, Rococo is a style of French design or an artistic expression that originate in the modern age
of the eighteenth century. The Rococo style of art was an artistic revolution of the hopes and dream of
the emerging middle class, which spread through the European region. This movement is most popular
for its uses of fancy, curved asymmetrical forms and rich ornamentation. Rococo art style is shown
elegantly and beautifully, with the scenes of classic love stories and fantastical dreams of romance.
Fragonard described the theme of the painting as an act of individual freedom, both physical and
emotional in the sense of movement.
Fragonard s oil painting, The Swing was created in 1766. It is located in the Wallace Collection,

Organizations need to know who their best performers are.Within the context of formal performance
appraisal requirements, rating means evaluating employee or group performance against the elements
and standards in an employee s performance plan and assigning a summary rating of record. The
rating of record is assigned according to procedures included in the organization s appraisal program.
It is based on work performed during an entire appraisal period. The rating of record has a bearing on
various other personnel actions, such as granting within grade pay increases and determining
additional retention service credit in a reduction in force.Note: Although group performance may have
an impact on an employee s summary rating, a rating of record is assigned only to an individual, not to

both positive and negative.Good performance is recognized without waiting for nominations for

The Impact Of Reality Television And Its Impact On Society
Reality television is an addicting phenomenon that graces millions of televisions daily. From shows
like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Life of Kylie, and Love and Hip Hop to series like My Strange
Addiction, Hoarders, and My 600 lb Life, reality TV has left its mark and impacted today s society in
more ways than one. It has slithered into mass media to dominate lives and focus on real events or
situations that have long term effects on its viewers. This brand of television serves as a reflection of
society and often exploits its participants if not glamorizes a certain lifestyle that may seem
unattainable to its viewers. For example, the Kardashians represent success and the achievement of the
American dream that, to many, is elusive. Through the dramatization of mental illness, Hoarders
exploits its viewers and reinforces the perception of these people as outsiders which lead to further
marginalization and hiding of hoarding behavior. Shows that look down on and criticize certain
lifestyles, such as Hoarders, function as a cautionary story and is put out to the public as a warning of
how not to live. Lifestyle themed programs are also connected to broader campaigns, orchestrated by
private and public partners to promote desired behaviors such as delayed parenting and healthy eating
(Oullette). With this program, A E tends to sensationalize these people and sends the message to its
audience that this behavior is monstrous and should be avoided at all costs. A E chooses to dramatize
the manifestation of hoarding as opposed to using the platform to get to the root of hoarding for both
the viewers and the hoarders themselves. Although some episodes are less offensive than others,
Hoarders exploits its subjects and interferes with the viewer s potential for empathy. The ordinary
celebrity promised by television, and the incitement to perform the real for ratings, accentuates these
possibilities and constraints, and raises important questions about whether ordinary people are
empowered or exploited through nonfiction and reality programming (Oullette). Instead of
encouraging proper treatment it presents hoarding as something that is impossible to relate to and

nothing ....That they have power beyond his own, a power beyond the reach of any magic, is a truth he
has never grasped. This tells us how blinded Lord Voldemort is by evil intentions. Moreover, there is
textual evidence that in the film characters believe in doing good deeds to overcome evil

Description Of The Great Smoky Mountains
Has anyone here ever, heard the words, Smoky Mountains. If so, then they are either referring to my
National Park, or Global Warming. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the only National
Park that has Geysers that spit up smoke. It also is the only Park with an excessively long name. Now
you may be wondering why the Great Smoky Mountains are great. You can look around, to find a Park
that has a nice place to Camp, Fish, have a Picnic, but almost all of them are either uncomfortable,
have no maps, really, really close to the edge of a cliff, or, you may just want to find a different place.
But you won t find another place as warm, embracing, and fun. Well, so far you could classify it as
The Grand Canyon. Another reason the Great Smoky

Taking a Look at Gay Marriage
To be honest, lets just say that you are super in love with your boyfriend or girlfriend, now what
would you do if someone told you that you cant be with that person because you guys are straight.
What if everyone looked down upon people that were straight because the only right way is to be gay?
Do you see what I m getting at? People these days think that its okay to tell people who they can and
cannot love. Like seriously? If you love someone you should be with them! Love is love no matter
what age or gender. We live in such a world where we live by the bible, and how we all are so
religious . Don t get me wrong i am very religious, but not to the point where I m like, You will go to
hell if you are homosexual . In all reality the bible says absolutely nothing about people being
homosexual, it never criticizes it and it never says that they will go to hell. No one should ever judge
someone for being in love. What if someone judged you for loving your significant other, or your
crush, or your dream guy/girl. Like seriously. What is wrong with our world today, we judge when in
all reality, we dont have any room to talk. People think that they can change homosexuals by sending
them to church, or having a priest come and take the demon that is inside of them, when what they are
really doing is making the person think that they cant love, then they go off and date a person like a
normal person would. Are they really happy? Are they satisfied with their life? More

External factors influence a firm s choice of direction and action and, ultimately, its organizational
structure and internal processes. These factors, which constitute the external environment, can be
divided into three interrelated subcategories: factors in the remote environment, factors in the industry
environment, and factors in the operating environment... In combination, these factors form the basis
of the opportunities and threats that a firm faces in its competitive environment, (Pearce Robinson,
2004, p. 78). To create an experience unlike its competitors, Starbucks must constantly evaluate all
areas of their business while capitalizing on economies of scale and eliminating redundancies.
EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT Starbucks can benefit from an environmental scan from the
environmental analysis, identifying challenges and opportunities, and by using the external and
internal sources of information researched. These factors make up the external environment to include
the remote and operating environment, (Pearce Robinson, 2004). Market research by First Research
(2010) has shown that the United States coffee shop industry includes about 25,000 stores with
combined annual revenue of about $13 billion. Major companies in this industry include Starbucks,
Caribou, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, and Praise International. The industry is concentrated with the top
50 companies generating more than 70% of sales. The external

Jainism And Buddhism Comparison
Same:
Buddhism and Jainism share numerous aspects of sameness within their faith paths, these include but
are not limited to geographical and very possibly Clan origin, the use of monastery as an order of
hierarchy, a quest for enlightenment, and non theism.
Jainism and Buddhism both originate from the Indus Valley Civilization, with Mahavira and the
Buddha living in the time frame of 500 BCE. Jainism s major teach for this age is Mahavira or
Mahavir (The Great Hero). He was a contemporary of the Buddha and died approximately 527 BCE.
(4) Much like the Buddha, Mahavira was also a prince of the Kshatrya clan. While we do have more
information about Mahavira, there are few factual details of the Buddha s life, as his teachings were
likely not written down until several hundred years later.
Next, let s explore the foundations of the Jain and Buddhist teachings. The Jain teaching recognize
that we humans are imperfect, but hold out the promise that through careful control of our sense and
thoughts we can attain perfection, freedom, and happiness. (1) The Buddha taught about earthly
suffering and it s cure...that liberation from suffering depends on our own efforts. The Buddha taught
that by understand how we create suffering for ourselves we can become free. (2) It appears that the
Jain approach is one of acknowledging imperfection with the intention of reaching perfection through
control of senses and thoughts we can reach kevala (3), this approach creates the

Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms ( Adr )
Within the Australian justice system, Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms (ADR) have
historically been perceived as a means whereby parties can seek to resolve a variety of disputes, but in
a non judicial manner. As we move further into the 21st century, the rising costs associated with
lengthy and often ineffective litigation, accompanied with a need to reduce burdens placed upon our
legal system have allowed for a notable shift away from the courts as the primary means of dispute
resolution, with a growing number of parties preferring ADR as the most appropriate means to bring
about a more cooperative approach to legal matters. In the past, it has been largely up to the parties to
identify the issues that are in dispute, which would then later be adjudicated in the appropriate court.
Many scholars have strongly advocated in favour of adopting pre action requirements, whereby parties
are encouraged to negotiate disputes prior to the commencement of litigation. Lord Wolff in his 1996
report into the UK justice system importantly notes that the present system... is too expensive in that
the costs often exceed the value of the claim; too slow in bringing cases to a conclusion and too
unequal: there is a lack of equality between the powerful, wealthy litigant and the under resourced
litigant . His recommendations, alongside several others have been given significant weight within
Australia, with the Attorney General initiating the National Alternative Dispute Resolution

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (lou Gherigs Disease) Essay
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gherig s Disease)
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a deadly disease of the nervous system.
Also known as Lou Gehrig s disease, ALS at this time affects 25,000 people in the U.S. today. One in
50,000 people will be affected in any one year. The average age for diagnosis of ALS is between 30
and 70, although there have been cases of teenagers contracting it.The average life span after
diagnosis are three to 10 years, although 20 percent of those affected will outlive their prognosis by a
number of years. ALS affects more men than women. Approximately
60 percent of those affected are male, 40 percent are female.
Little is known about the exact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The patient cannot eat, breathe or communicate with others. Total life support may be the only thing
keeping them alive. ALS can lead to total paralysis.
Although there is no cure, medications such as siazepam can assist with controlling spasms and
muscle cramps and saliva. Siazepam can also help control muscle twitching. Physical therapy is
important for patients with ALS to maintain flexibility in joints and to prevent contractures, or
fixations of muscles. Diagnosis of ALS is difficult, since there is no clinical or laboratory test to
identify it. Diagnosis is done through careful examination of a patient s history, neurological testing,
and electromyograms.
Researchers have been studying whether a defective metabolism of glutamate, an amino acid, is
detrimental to the nerve cells in the muscles of
ALS patients. Scientists are trying to determine whether they can prevent the toxic effects of
glutamate. Other scientists are studying Threostat, which may increase the amino acid called glycine,
which might neutralize glutamate found in ALS patients.
ALS and Muscular Dystrophy are commonly confused due to their similar

  • 2. Compare And Contrast The Sniper And The Man He Killed Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind. John Fitzgerald Kennedy wrote this quote to the UN General Assembly on September 25, 1961. In other words Kennedy is saying that people should stop war because war tears people apart. In the writings The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty and The Man he Killed by Thomas Hardy they also talk about how war tears people apart. These two writings are both very similar although they have some differences in literary devices plot, irony, and theme. In these two works there are similarities and differences in plot. A similar plot from both stories is that the protagonist, a soldier, had to kill someone. He must kill the enemy that enemy and he could not use his rifle. (O Flaherty ... In the two stories the main characters were both good people and felt remorse. • 3. Delaware Horses History There is a trail down the road in Delaware where I enjoy taking my dog for a walk. It is a beautiful, five mile loop traversing cornfields, thick patches of forest, steep hills and flowing streams; a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle of the suburban lifestyle and spend some time amongst the peacefulness of nature. It is not a complete escape, however, for I am not the only person that knows of the trail it seems to also be a favorite of horseback riders. Often times I will encounter a rider or two at some point during my walk and, without fail, I will be in awe of the size and majesty of the horse. What an incredible, gentle beast it is. Standing next to a horse, you cannot help but gawk at the bulging, toned muscles and long, agile legs. It is truly an athlete with a rare combination of strength and speed. Yet, they are gentle and kind and have therefore been joined at the hip with humans; today, nearly all horses have been domesticated. So I find myself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the changes in equids from their beginnings until now are drastic, I found it interesting that it was not necessarily gradual. Most of the changes in size, structure and teeth did not happen until the Miocene, upon which the development was rapid. Figure 5 shows the mass of Equid genera in comparison to when they lived. For the first half of equid development, barely any change occurred. This displays how important environmental factors are in the evolution of species; without the emergence and prominence of open grasslands in the Miocene, horses as we know them today would almost certainly not ... This process included two maim steps. The first step was designing of HSV 1 primer and /or HSV 2 primer (we have chosen only HSV 1). BioEdit software has been used to edit the nuclide sequences where necessary. After that the primer has been ordered. It has been critiqued and reformed many times over the course of hundreds of years, and has continued to come under scrutiny in modern British politics as well. While some feel that the House of Lords is ineffective and an unnecessary part of British government. Others view the House of Lords to be more influential and relevant than it is often given credit for. However this is not always the case. One simple but very prevalent criticism of the House of Lords is that it is simply not relevant or useful in modern British politics. This is perhaps one of the most easily disputable arguments concerning the House of Lords. This argument against the House of Lords has been present in British politics almost since its inception. Despite this the House of Lords has continued to grow in numbers and change in its political power, and cultural influence. Much like the role of the Monarchy, the House of Lords is largely symbolic in its purpose. Although it does have some remaining political power, the House of Lords has been largely symbolic for hundreds of years due to its lesser status, and the reforms that led to this status. The House of Lords may not be as optically influential as the House of Commons. This enables the House of Lords to have much more historical and cultural significance. A more specific example of the cultural significance of the House of Lords is the continued inclusion of Spiritual Lords. Despite the fact that church attendance has continued to decline, the Church of England remains an integral part of British history. The inclusion of these Spiritual Lords of most certainly nearly entirely ceremonial, and continued for the sake of tradition. Although some may consider this to be unnecessary, many ... • 9. The, Suspense, And The Unknown Essay Detective novels of the mystery genre have always been fraught with terror, suspense, and the unknown. Normally those such novels are subject to the public eye under the scrutiny of just how much of it is real or simply superstition and science fiction just sensational writing. Sensational writing in and of itself is not supposed to be thought provoking to the reader, but instead plays off the reader s baser emotions that center around adrenaline like fear and excitement. While A Study in Scarlet, by essence of being a detective novel, is still considered sensational writing, it brought a level of subtleness to the sensationalism that evoked a deeper response in the readers. One particular event where the sensationalism was extremely downplayed was the murder itself in the novel. For the police detective Gregson and Lestrade, their biggest question at the scene of the crime was not really who murdered but how he murdered as there was not any noticeable blood or wounds on the victim. Lestrade even goes so far as to remark, This case will make a stir, sir...It beats anything I have seen, and I am no chicken (Doyle 25). The unusual circumstances of the death cause the reader to think deeper about how the victim could have possibly died, subtly ensnaring the reader to be even further interested. Fear of the unknown is the greatest thing subtly sensationalism can do since it can evoke a greater response in a few words than what pages of grotesque description can do. If Doyle ... Tragic Figure In Antigone In Sophocles Antigone, Kreon and Antigone encountered opposing obligations torn between their duty to their people and Thebes and their duty to their family and gods. While Kreon ultimately chose his people and Thebes, Antigone chose her family and gods. This conflict of obligation between the two caused the strife between the two and resulted in the demise of both characters. They could both represent tragic figures, but Kreon is the most tragic figure in the play. I ll lie there, dear to him, with my dear friend, when I ve performed this crime of piety; for I must please those down below a longer time than those up here, since I shall lie there always (71 76). She makes it clear that her brother was very dear to her and she loved him deeply. Her deep love for him made her capable of defying her community s laws and face death. She would rather lie in death next to her brother than never see her brother given the proper customary burial that all in the community receive. Merchant (2012) provides a valuable research, which is focused on gender as the major determinant of leadership styles in individuals. Providing an analysis of literature, Merchant (2012) indicates that many studies analyzing the intersection of gender and influence tactics have resulted in mixed finding (p. 24). Democratic Leader makes the final decision, only after receiving the input and recommendations of all team members, (Goetsch, 2002). Effect of Gender Though gender is a contradictory variable in affecting leadership styles, I should note that gender does play an important role in the way I influence other people. In this aspect, I should agree with Merchant (2012), who indicate, women value cooperation [...] and have a less clear focus on where the boundaries of their friendships end and their individual identities begin (p. 18). Overarchingly, in regards to these works, the heroes earn their titles as heroes by notably doing what is right when the time is right, with humane purpose, and an everlasting message. (Gilgamesh 11.324,236) This was his act of of good. Realising what it takes to rule his kingdom, not like a tyrant, was what his message was. What truly made Gilgamesh a hero was his transformation from being a tyrant to a good king. Gilgamesh lived on through the foundations of his Kingdom, in a way, making him mortal. As people continue to study the epic, one might even suggest Gilgamesh obtained immortality as being remembered a hero. Antigone too was a hero, however, in a different way. While displayed a message, she did good, and had purpose, it was all slightly different than Gilgamesh. Antigone stood against the King, Creon, her uncle, who ruled tyrannically. With this, her message shared some parallel to Gilgamesh, suggesting that if a Tyrant is in power, change is needed. She criticized her uncle for not being a king of the people, as he made it illegal to bury one of her brothers. By the criterion I develop, a culture which has expanded its potentialities in various independent forms is an open culture able to enter into dialogue with any other culture. 1. Research that has been conducted so far has attempted to determine the role of biological, psychological and social factors but unfortunately, evidence does not point to any single factor. Literature suggests that the etiology of schizophrenia and related psychoses results from a complex interaction of multiple factors (Broome et al., 2005; Garety et al., 2007). Nuechterlein Dawson (1984) suggest that much of the conducted research on the etiology of schizophrenia is consistent with the vulnerability stress model. The vulnerability stress explains that individuals have different levels of vulnerability to the mental illness schizophrenia. These levels are determined by the interaction between biological, social and psychological factors. The research of Neuchterlein Dawson (1984) proposed that vulnerability results in the development of problems if there was a presence of environmental stressors. This proposal states that if there is great vulnerability, low levels of stress might be sufficient to cause problems. On the other hand, if an individual possess less vulnerability, problems only arise with higher levels of stress. Throughout the two texts the authors, Bernard Evslin and Geraldine McCaughrean, who respectively rewrote Phaethon and Daedalus and Icarus, use the literary elements of characterization and imagery to convey their shared theme. Through the use of characterization and imagery, both mythological protagonists, Phaethon and Icarus, demonstrate a common lesson that a prideful disregard of the warnings from those who are older and wiser can quickly lead to disastrous consequences. First, in the story of Phaethon, Phaethon is characterized as a thoughtless and headstrong boy. These characteristics lead to catastrophic results, and help relate back to the main theme; A prideful disregard of the warnings from those who are older and wiser can quickly lead to disastrous consequences. For example, while driving the sun chariot and contemplating flying closer to Earth so everyone will see him, Phaethon exclaims, Apollo said not to come too close to the Earth, but how will he know? And I won t stay long, just dip down towards the villages. (53). This implies the Phaethon does not think about his actions, nor their consequences, and only does what benefits him and his reputation. There is over sixty million displaced people and refugees, numbers not even heard of during the period of WW2 coming from not only seria but from other regions like Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa and even Haiti. The must striking thing about this crisis, is that it is still expected to get worst. Chapter Two: Investigating the Possibility of Integrating Critical Thinking in English Language Teaching Introduction Montaigne views that saying is one thing; doing is another thing (qtd. in Robson 191). This insinuates that what one says might be different from what s/he does, hence the necessity when enquiring about the possibility of integrating critical thinking in English Language Teaching. This chapter is devoted to the investigation of the hypothesis of the study, whether critical thinking could be incorporated in English Language Teaching. This chapter is undertaken with this spirit, we will start our investigation by introducing the population of the study. Then, we describe, analyze and interpret the questionnaires results. It will help us confirm or disconfirm our hypotheses about possible correlation between critical thinking and language teaching. We provide two sections, first, we deal with the students questionnaire followed by its analysis, and then, we will move to do the same with teachers questionnaire. 2.1. Methodology 2.1.1. Hypothesis It is worth to reiterate our research hypothesis: Incorporating the teaching of critical thinking skills may enhance EFL students mastery of the field, and raise their awareness about their own learning, thereby, they become autonomous. 2.1.2. Wells. He is well known for his science fiction novels. This short story is focusing on sight and blindness and brings up the theme of prejudice versus learning. In the novel we follow a traveller, who ends up in an unfamiliar strange place, which set him in learning trail, figuring out who he really is. How does the writer illustrate the difficulties with foreigners in this short story? The protagonist Nunez is a mountain climber, who accidentally falls into a valley inhabited with blind citizens, isolated from the rest of the world. There he falls in love with a woman from the valley that leaves Nunez back with a difficult choice. When Nunez first arrives to the valley, he feels he has an advantage in relation to the other habitants in the valley, remembering an old phrase saying, In the Country of the Blind the One eyed Man is King. He tries to teach the blind people about sight and convince them that it is an excessive ability to have. These scenes foreshadow the events to come with Jack and the feelings of lostness and insecurity that Ennis feels. In the scene after Jack and Ennis s first sexual encounter in the tent, Ennis and Jack are horsing around in the field while Joe, their boss, watches them in disgust. During this scene, the wind is loud and the trees shake, representing distress and negativity. The wind is recurring and often is meant to express the feelings they can t explain with words. Mao Zedong Ideology Mao Zedong as a Chinese Nationalist Anthony Trang HST/REL 111 Professor Rush 12/01/2017 Mao Zedong was a man who went down in history as a terrible person who ruled with an iron fist. As defined by Merriam Webster dictionary, loyalty and devotion to a nation; especially : a sense of national consciousness exalting one nation above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations or supranational groups. Mao is certainly someone who would be called a nationalist. While Mao was in charge he had a few big objectives which were all for, in his eyes, the good of the country. One of his objectives was unifying China by eliminating warlords and getting rid of outsider influence. Mao initiated sweeping campaigns against bribery, corruption, and tax evasion, among other things, in order to eliminate the previous chaos and instability that had been created in China s fractious warlord ruled past. The warlords in the past had caused so many of the problems that Mao had to live with as there was so much corruption which lead to there being many poor people. • 31. The Second And Current Republic Introduction From French revolution in 1789, France has had five different republican systems. The fifth and current republic was an outcome to the Algerian crisis in 1950 s. The First Republic began with the fall of King Louis XVI in 1792 and ended with Napoleon Bonaparte declaring himself emperor of the First French Empire in 1804. After Napoleon s empire had ended, a period of monarchies followed, until the 1848 Revolution saw the birth of the Second Republic, paradoxically enough with the election of Napoleon s own nephew, Napoleon III, as its first president. The Second Empire collapsed in 1870 with the catastrophic war against the Prussians, which the French soundly lost. That same year, the Third Republic was created. Although the Third Republic had a long life, it was on the other hand quite unstable. In the period from 1929 to 1939, there were 18 different governments. The Third Republic ended in 1940 with the German occupation of France. The Fourth Republic was established after the war and officially put in place in 1946 and successfully led France to an economic recovery after Second World War. This essay discusses about the constitution of French fourth republic on 13 October 1946 with the Liberté, égalité, fraternité motto, head by Charles de Gaulle. It has slithered into mass media to dominate lives and focus on real events or situations that have long term effects on its viewers. This brand of television serves as a reflection of society and often exploits its participants if not glamorizes a certain lifestyle that may seem unattainable to its viewers. For example, the Kardashians represent success and the achievement of the American dream that, to many, is elusive. Through the dramatization of mental illness, Hoarders exploits its viewers and reinforces the perception of these people as outsiders which lead to further marginalization and hiding of hoarding behavior. Shows that look down on and criticize certain lifestyles, such as Hoarders, function as a cautionary story and is put out to the public as a warning of how not to live. Lifestyle themed programs are also connected to broader campaigns, orchestrated by private and public partners to promote desired behaviors such as delayed parenting and healthy eating (Oullette). With this program, A E tends to sensationalize these people and sends the message to its audience that this behavior is monstrous and should be avoided at all costs. A E chooses to dramatize the manifestation of hoarding as opposed to using the platform to get to the root of hoarding for both the viewers and the hoarders themselves. The ordinary celebrity promised by television, and the incitement to perform the real for ratings, accentuates these possibilities and constraints, and raises important questions about whether ordinary people are empowered or exploited through nonfiction and reality programming (Oullette). It can also be understood through the characters action and expressions that in life good will always overcome evil. This have been analyzed by Roland Barthes idea that the use of texts work on different levels, meaning, text can not only be analyzed by how it is understood but also how it interacts within a cultural and social context (Nye 2008, 154). Roland Barthes advises that in order to understand religion of a given society, one has to look beyond the texts; other things like architecture, art and music must also be analyzed. In the film, there are various instances where witchcraft powers are used and the prevailing belief is that of occult and Satanism. However, even with the much magic in the film, the author separates the witchcraft magic and there is a different kind of magic known to human beings. This is evident when Dumbledore says, Of house elves and children s tales, of love, loyalty, and innocence, Voldemort knows and understands nothing ....That they have power beyond his own, a power beyond the reach of any magic, is a truth he has never grasped. This tells us how blinded Lord Voldemort is by evil intentions. Moreover, there is textual evidence that in the film characters believe in doing good deeds to overcome evil ... • 40. Description Of The Great Smoky Mountains Has anyone here ever, heard the words, Smoky Mountains. If so, then they are either referring to my National Park, or Global Warming. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the only National Park that has Geysers that spit up smoke. It also is the only Park with an excessively long name. Now you may be wondering why the Great Smoky Mountains are great. You can look around, to find a Park that has a nice place to Camp, Fish, have a Picnic, but almost all of them are either uncomfortable, have no maps, really, really close to the edge of a cliff, or, you may just want to find a different place. But you won t find another place as warm, embracing, and fun. Well, so far you could classify it as The Grand Canyon. Another reason the Great Smoky ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Taking a Look at Gay Marriage To be honest, lets just say that you are super in love with your boyfriend or girlfriend, now what would you do if someone told you that you cant be with that person because you guys are straight. What if everyone looked down upon people that were straight because the only right way is to be gay? Do you see what I m getting at? People these days think that its okay to tell people who they can and cannot love. Like seriously? If you love someone you should be with them! Love is love no matter what age or gender. We live in such a world where we live by the bible, and how we all are so religious . Don t get me wrong i am very religious, but not to the point where I m like, You will go to hell if you are homosexual . In all reality the bible says absolutely nothing about people being homosexual, it never criticizes it and it never says that they will go to hell. No one should ever judge someone for being in love. What if someone judged you for loving your significant other, or your crush, or your dream guy/girl. Like seriously. What is wrong with our world today, we judge when in all reality, we dont have any room to talk. People think that they can change homosexuals by sending them to church, or having a priest come and take the demon that is inside of them, when what they are really doing is making the person think that they cant love, then they go off and date a person like a normal person would. Are they really happy? Are they satisfied with their life? More ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These factors, which constitute the external environment, can be divided into three interrelated subcategories: factors in the remote environment, factors in the industry environment, and factors in the operating environment... In combination, these factors form the basis of the opportunities and threats that a firm faces in its competitive environment, (Pearce Robinson, 2004, p. 78). To create an experience unlike its competitors, Starbucks must constantly evaluate all areas of their business while capitalizing on economies of scale and eliminating redundancies. EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT Starbucks can benefit from an environmental scan from the environmental analysis, identifying challenges and opportunities, and by using the external and internal sources of information researched. These factors make up the external environment to include the remote and operating environment, (Pearce Robinson, 2004). • 43. Jainism And Buddhism Comparison Same: Buddhism and Jainism share numerous aspects of sameness within their faith paths, these include but are not limited to geographical and very possibly Clan origin, the use of monastery as an order of hierarchy, a quest for enlightenment, and non theism. Jainism and Buddhism both originate from the Indus Valley Civilization, with Mahavira and the Buddha living in the time frame of 500 BCE. Jainism s major teach for this age is Mahavira or Mahavir (The Great Hero). He was a contemporary of the Buddha and died approximately 527 BCE. (4) Much like the Buddha, Mahavira was also a prince of the Kshatrya clan. While we do have more information about Mahavira, there are few factual details of the Buddha s life, as his teachings were likely not written down until several hundred years later. Next, let s explore the foundations of the Jain and Buddhist teachings. The Jain teaching recognize that we humans are imperfect, but hold out the promise that through careful control of our sense and thoughts we can attain perfection, freedom, and happiness. (1) The Buddha taught about earthly suffering and it s cure...that liberation from suffering depends on our own efforts. The Buddha taught that by understand how we create suffering for ourselves we can become free. (2) It appears that the Jain approach is one of acknowledging imperfection with the intention of reaching perfection through control of senses and thoughts we can reach kevala (3), this approach creates the ... • 44. Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms ( Adr ) Within the Australian justice system, Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms (ADR) have historically been perceived as a means whereby parties can seek to resolve a variety of disputes, but in a non judicial manner. As we move further into the 21st century, the rising costs associated with lengthy and often ineffective litigation, accompanied with a need to reduce burdens placed upon our legal system have allowed for a notable shift away from the courts as the primary means of dispute resolution, with a growing number of parties preferring ADR as the most appropriate means to bring about a more cooperative approach to legal matters. In the past, it has been largely up to the parties to identify the issues that are in dispute, which would then later be adjudicated in the appropriate court. Many scholars have strongly advocated in favour of adopting pre action requirements, whereby parties are encouraged to negotiate disputes prior to the commencement of litigation. Lord Wolff in his 1996 report into the UK justice system importantly notes that the present system... is too expensive in that the costs often exceed the value of the claim; too slow in bringing cases to a conclusion and too unequal: there is a lack of equality between the powerful, wealthy litigant and the under resourced litigant . His recommendations, alongside several others have been given significant weight within Australia, with the Attorney General initiating the National Alternative Dispute Resolution ... • 45. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (lou Gherigs Disease) Essay Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gherig s Disease) Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a deadly disease of the nervous system. Also known as Lou Gehrig s disease, ALS at this time affects 25,000 people in the U.S. today. One in 50,000 people will be affected in any one year. The average age for diagnosis of ALS is between 30 and 70, although there have been cases of teenagers contracting it.The average life span after diagnosis are three to 10 years, although 20 percent of those affected will outlive their prognosis by a number of years. ALS affects more men than women. Approximately 60 percent of those affected are male, 40 percent are female. Little is known about the exact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The patient cannot eat, breathe or communicate with others. Total life support may be the only thing keeping them alive. ALS can lead to total paralysis. Although there is no cure, medications such as siazepam can assist with controlling spasms and muscle cramps and saliva. Siazepam can also help control muscle twitching. Physical therapy is important for patients with ALS to maintain flexibility in joints and to prevent contractures, or fixations of muscles. Diagnosis of ALS is difficult, since there is no clinical or laboratory test to identify it. Diagnosis is done through careful examination of a patient s history, neurological testing, and electromyograms. Researchers have been studying whether a defective metabolism of glutamate, an amino acid, is detrimental to the nerve cells in the muscles of ALS patients. Scientists are trying to determine whether they can prevent the toxic effects of glutamate. Other scientists are studying Threostat, which may increase the amino acid called glycine, which might neutralize glutamate found in ALS patients. ALS and Muscular Dystrophy are commonly confused due to their similar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
