functioning, the natural environment, vegetation, insects, livestock, and a requirement for future
generations. With the population growing at alarming rates accompanied with resource depletion an
accepted part of society; we are using and exceeding all natural resources we have left. Until we
realize there is a vast shortage; by then it will be far too late.
Scientists and researchers have stated that fresh water resources are running low worldwide, and are
only expected to worsen over time as the population increases (Pearce, 2007), (Browns, Amazon
books). Given the current trends of resource depletion and population increase, as much as two thirds
of the world population in 2025 may be subject to moderate to high water stress, where only a small
fraction of available renewable fresh water, less than 0.01 percent, is readily obtainable for the direct
human use (United Nations, 1997a). Putting this in a simple explanation, no more of this available
renewable fresh water (0.01 percent of all water) is available today than existed at the start of human

Alice in Wonderland is analyzed from the critical viewpoint of feminism, readers may discover some

poorly by men. Also the story suggest that women are irrational,emotional, and loud. Mainly showing
that they can t be relied on to do some of the tasks that the men do. However most of the men in the

identifies women as gullible, and stupid,people who are incapable of going through a thought process.
Now I shall elaborate on each of these points,showing how this story can be viewed from a feminist
point of view. It s evident that, Alice is treated as poorly by some of the men in different parts of the
story. During the tea party scene in Alice in Wonderland , Alice approached the table that the men
were having tea at. As soon as they saw her coming, they automatically said that there was no room
for her at the table. Obviously, Alice could see that the table was not full, in fact there were many seats
around the table. Although the men knew this, they decided to tell Alice that there was no room at the
table. Perhaps they were trying to deter her from sitting at the table, by making her feel as though she
is unwelcome. After that, Alice proceeds to sit at the table, and the Hatter asks Alice to figure out the
answer to a riddle. The riddle was Why is a raven like a writing desk? Alice attempts to figure out the
answer, but to no avail. When it s time for Alice to answer, she tells the Hatter that she gives up on
trying to figure it out. She then proceeds to ask what the answer to the riddle is, and the Hatter says
that he has no clue what the answer to the riddle is. He made Alice think long and hard about the
answer to the riddle, that seemed to not have an answer. The Hatter knew that there was no answer to
the riddle, and yet he made Alice try to figure it out. I can conclude that the Hatter only asked Alice

Throughout history, wars have emphasized the need for nurses. During the Crimean War (1854 1856),
the deficiency of care given to soldiers led to a public outcry in Great Britain. Florence Nightingale
played an impressive role in addressing this problem.
Florence Nightingale was born in Italy on May 12, 1820 into a rich, upper class, wealthy and
intellectual family. She believed she was called by God to help others and to improve the well being of
mankind. She was determined to become a nurse despite societal restrictions and opposition from her
family. She received three months of training in nursing in Kaiserwerth in 1847. After studying in

She used this money to develop the Nightingale Training School for Nurses, which opened in 1860. Its
graduates traveled to other countries to manage hospitals and institute nurse training programs
(Kozier, 2004).
Florence Nightingale defined nursing as the act of utilizing the environment of the patient to assist
him in his recovery (Kozier, 2004). Nightingale considered a clean, well ventilated, and quiet
environment essential for recovery. She linked health with five environmental factors: pure or fresh
air, pure water, efficient drainage, cleanliness, and light. She believed that deficiencies in these five
factors produced lack of health or illness. She also stressed the importance of keeping the client warm,
maintaining a noise free environment, and attending to the client s diet (Kozier, 2004).
Florence Nightingale was considered the pioneer of modern nursing. She sets an example for nurses
everywhere of compassion and commitment to patient care. Throughout her life she continued to
improve health standards. In recognition of her hard work she was awarded the Royal Red Cross in
1883 by Queen Victoria. She received many honors throughout her life including the Order of Merit in

Mark Twain says that early in his life he moved to a mining town in Colorado. The town was wide
open with brothels and bars on every corner. Twain says, I immediately recognized it was no place for
a Christian so I decided not to be one. Many people have imitated Twain s response. When they find it
hard to be a Christian, they either quit trying to be one or they compromise their convictions.
Jesus directs some of His harshest words toward the sin of compromise embodied in the doctrines of
Balaam and the Nicolaitans in the church at Pergamos (Rev. 2:12 17). Both doctrines were efforts to
adjust Christianity to the level of the world rather than lift the world to the level of Christianity. They
taught the people to go along in order to get along, in short, to compromise. However, Jesus says he
hates the doctrine (2:15), and the Scriptures warn us repeatedly against it (2 Cor. 6:17; Rom. 12:2; 2
Tim. 2:19).
Pharaoh s dealing with Moses is a classic example of how the devil uses compromise to thwart God s
children from reaching the Promised Land (Ex. 8:25 10:26). At God s orders, Moses and Aaron
demand that Pharaoh release every family and tribe of Israel out of Egypt. Pharaoh does not wish to

leader of the Norse gods and Thor is the god of lightning and thunder. Another similarity between
these two mythologies is Aphrodite and Freya. Aphrodite, a greek goddess, is the goddess of love and

from each other, in order to study and understand these religions, their similarities must be identified.
This paper will first present a definition of religion that will connect to all religions at the simplest
base. Then this paper will examine the common practices and experiences that are present in both the
primary religions of the world, as well as the indigenous religions. Finally, this paper will discuss the
issues that are critical to the academic study of religions.
