Holt s Case Study
2. How does the class s average TRC for each gender compare with Holt s (1952) data? The average
number of TRC for males in my class is around 129, for female it is 102. For Holt s data the average
for males is around 200 and for females is slightly under 200. It s a difference in numbers, but in every
other detail it is fairly similar. 3. How does your personal TRC compare with the class average and
Holt s (1952) data? The data are similar in the way they are set up. However, Holt separated the
females and males, Holt also determined exactly which finger was being counted and Holt is very
much specific in the data collected. 4. Why are the classroom averages different (they likely are...)

In what ways does Mendelian genetics differ from polygenic inheritance? Mendelian genetics differs
from polygenic inheritance because one trait is controlled by one gene in specific. There is also a
dominant and a recessive. In polygenic inheritance one trait may be controlled by two or more genes.
6. In what ways are the two models of inheritance the same? The many genes that are controlling a
polygenic trait are all inherited by Mendelian genetics. While the genes individually contain
Mendelian inheritance, the trait itself does not because a vast amount of genes are involved in making
it specific. 7. Unfortunately, the χ2 test is mathematically unsuitable for use with averages. What
statistical test could we use to determine if our average TRC is really the same as Holt s (1952) data?
In order to compare our average TRC to that of Holt s (1952), we can use a t test. In Holt s experiment
she is comparing the frequency of the total ridge count between males and females. The Chi Square
cannot be used on this data set because a Chi Square test could only work when there is a significant
difference between what is expected and what is observe. It would not work on the values use on the

Castration Of Repeat Sexual Offenders Essay
Castration for Repeat Sexual Offenders by the state senate of Florida Prepared for The Florida state
senate Tampa, Florida By Justin Masters Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Com 221 HYB April
10, 2016 ABSTRACT This article covers the castration of repeat sexual offenders. Many countries
have started using castration as a treatment for sexual offenders to lower the rate of reoffending. The
use of castration has sparked many debates and even started human rights groups. Covered within this
article is the data acquired from group testing for comparison, and some of the movements and their
points of view on the use of castration on sexual offenders. TABLE OF CONTENTS Abstract 2 Table

Of these sources, most are also found in medicine journals. These journal sources are reliable, and
accurate, except for some population and statistics data. The accuracy of statistics and population are
not entirely accurate due to rising populations and changing laws in the countries mentioned. Scope of
analysis This article will cover various topics on the castration of sexual offenders across the globe
and what some countries are discussing as treatment or punishment options. The history of the use of
castration for the purpose of treating sexual offences dates back less than a century. Also covered, will
be the drawbacks and the comparison to the positive effects of using surgical verses chemical
castration. Although it is not a particularly old practice, several tests have been performed with some
surprising results. One particular test in Korea provides a large amount of statistical data, showing
some of the various side effects and averaged results of treatment. From this test, many points and
conclusions can be drawn. Other sources provide more data that backs up these findings, and provides
many of their own findings such as the side effects and large cost of some treatment

The Superhero Genre Is Classified By A Fight Of Good Vs. Evil
The superhero genre is classified by a fight of good vs. evil. The heroes and the villains are complex
characters driven by motives that are not always black and white. Besides dealing with fictional
characters, superhero comic books often incorporate real life difficulties, such as racism, sexism, and
drug use. The storylines are driven by the superheroes fight against the forces of evil, but the
underlying story often deals with conflicting moral dilemmas and self doubt. The superheroes have
secret identities and strut around in colorful costumes, but behind these personas, lay a story of
triumph and defeat. The true appeal of comics is not the colorful character who follows it but the dark,
gritty storylines that cause the reader to view the world and humanity in a new light. In Batman #134 ,
written in 1960 by Bill Finger, a few of these requirements are addressed. This comic follows Batman
and Robin s adventure in an undisclosed South American republic. The major conflict lies with a man
named Diaz, who releases a monster known as The Rainbow Creature. This creature terrorizes the
village until Batman uses his world class detective skills to defeat the beast. The storyline is quickly
wrapped up in a span of nine pages, and the childish tone of the comic causes the intrigue of the story
to be lost on the reader. On the other hand, Batman: Ego, written by Darwyn Cooke in 2000, deals
with the harsh atmosphere of Gotham. The comic tells the story of a wounded Batman and

The Dieppe Raid Essay
The Dieppe Raid
#65279; At dawn of 19th August 1942, six thousand and one hundred Allied soldiers, of whom
roughly five thousand were Canadians, landed at the French port of Dieppe in their first major test of
the defence of the German held coastline of Europe since Dunkirk. A combination of over rigid
planning, inadequate communication; lack of supporting firepower; and in the final hour before the
raid, absolute bad luck inflicted on the Allies made the Dieppe raid one of their worst defeats in World
War Two.
The codename given to the operation was Jubilee and its aim was to capture Dieppe to provide the
Allied war planners with the vital information about the enemy preparedness for the Russians to

A fairly considerable assault fleet was being built up, and although
Combined Operations Headquarters (C.O.H.Q) had experience of small operations employing infantry
landing ships and assault and mechanized landing craft, there were now available also tank landing
craft which had not yet been under fire; and there had been no experience of what was involved in
handling a fleet of all these types in action. At this point the planning for the raid seemed a purely
British conception without any argument form other Allied force Commanders (Robertson, 72). For
the main assault force, C.O.H.Q called upon the services of the 2nd Canadian Division, under the
command of Major General John Hamilton Roberts. The Canadian government knew its men were
frustrated and demoralized by inactivity, pressured the British government to send them into action at
the earliest opportunity Dieppe (Whitehead, 65). While the Canadians were assembling and beginning
their training in the Isle of Wight, detailed planning was proceeding in London, under the direction of
Lord Louis Mountbatten, the three Force Commanders, and the General Montgomery. During this
phase the original outline plan was materially altered. The most important change was the mistake of
eliminating the heavy air bombardment. At the same time it was agreed that briefing of the plan
should be deferred until the last possible moment, which should

The Persuaders Documentary Analysis
The Persuaders is a 90 minute documentary which draws on experts in and observers of the world of
marketing to explore how the culture of marketing influences what Americans buy, how they view the
world around them, and their expectation of themselves. The beginning of the film explains how
marketers are looking for new ways to increase not the usefulness of a product, but it s image. Once,
advertising showed the public what the product did, but now it persuades them to purchase the identity
of the item what it means to buy or use it. The second half of the film offers insight into how the new
identity marketing is being applied to politics, and it s effect on the democratic process. This
documentary explored the effect marketing

The persistence of earnings and earnings components after the adoption of IFRS Based on the research
paper of Doukakis (2010), working with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) may
impact determining earnings and earnings components. An analysis of data collected from all non
financial companies listed on the Athens Stock Exchange, before and after the implementation of the
IFRS, implies that the adoption of the IFRS system does not appear to have a positive impact on
earnings. Because of the use of the IFRS for a better financial reporting and an ease in decision
making process, the utilization of other accounting procedures are restricted, which results in a
decrease in reporting accounting data. A critical observation, based on the empirical findings, suggests
that IFRS adoption has no effect on the persistence of earnings and earnings components for
profitability in future. On the other hand, the outcome of the findings, illustrates that using the IFRS
principles appears to reduce the persistence of operating income (for the year 2006) as well as the
persistence of non operating income (for the years 2005 and 2006) (Doukakis, 2010). In other words,
the study was able to prove that, although it does not entail that IFRS earnings are of a lower quality,
an immediate decline in the explanatory power of all research models occur after implementation of
IFRS.

Naval Athens and the Rise of Athenian Democracy Essay
There is no coincidence that the rise of Athenian Democracy goes chronologically hand in hand with
the rise of the Athenian Navy. Following the defeat of the Persians by the Greeks, Athens naval
successes allow it to surpass the previous naval power of Corinth; create the Delian league to fund and
support this navy; and eventually ruffle enough feathers with their fellow Hellenic neighbours that
they inspire the Peloponnesian war. Overall their naval reputation and intimidation comes from the
skill of the men who maneuver and command the ships, and the tool they use to wield their power, the
Athenian trireme. By looking at the design of the trireme, and the work and numbers put both into the
ship and the men that drive it, hopefully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
TRIREMES AND SHIPBUILDING
Triremes were unfortunately had to make stops on shore nightly whenever possible, because they ship
needed to dry out and the crew would be given time to rest and eat without being confined to the
smaller space available in the trireme (Jordan 1975). This was not always the case though; there is a
recalling of a time when a trireme did have to sail through the night, when one ship had to catch up to
the trireme headed to Mytilene (Jordan 1975). This type of travel was possible with a trireme, but it
would sail slightly slower since men had to take turns rowing, eating barley cakes and wine
(Thucydides 1996)(3.49.4), and sleeping, since they had not enough room for everyone to take a break
at once. Another example is when they couldn t anchor at Pylos, men took their meals on shore in their
turn (4.26.3)(Thucydides 1996). This would not have done any harsh damage to the ship in small
amounts, but if it were to travel this way consistently there would be definite problems with ship
maintenance.
To actually build a trireme, it consisted of a number of different types of resources and uniquely
skilled laborers. The ship was built shell first , meaning the side planks were constructed before laying
in the backbone , keel,

Tankless Research Paper
Many people switch over to tankless gas hot water heaters believing them to be more efficient and
energy saving. However, it is important to realize that while a tankless gas hot water heater can be
more energy efficient, they do not use significantly less energy than regular devises for heating water.
If you only switching to a tankless gas hot water heater to save some money, then you will most likely
be a bit disappointed.
On the other hand, many people have found that natural gas tankless heat the water faster than regular
heaters, especially if you purchase a high quality heater. Many of these cost well under $1,000 if you
purchase them online. If you are unfamiliar with particular brand names or models, you may want to
look up online reviews; many online ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you purchase one that is too small, it will not adequately heat the water; if the heater is too large, it
will waste energy. On the other hand, many online retail websites post a blurb under the thumbnail
photo of the product, explaining the particulars of each tankless. Reading the description can help you
to see whether a particular model is suitable for your needs.
If you want to save a considerable amount of money, then you should consider installing the tankless
hot water heater on your own instead of having a professional come and do it for you. If you have a bit
of experience with DIY home improvement projects and the tools needed for the job, you can actually
install the tankless heater without professional assistance. You will need first of all to shut off the
water and gas supply. After that, remove the heater cover and screw the body on to the wall. You will
need to connect the water supply, hot water supply and gas supply line to the heater, and you will want
to test the heater out before putting the cover

Delano s Genius In Benito Cereno, By Herman Melville
Adam Mandel 6 October 2014 L204 Delano s Genius The story of Benito Cereno is written by
Herman Melville, yet is narrated by the captain of the Bachelor s Delight, Amasa Delano. By using an
in story narrator, Melville seems to divorce himself from the action, and any opinions he may have
about the characters. The reader is forced to watch the events unfold through the eyes of Delano, and
this deceives the audience into thinking Delano is a senseless, aloof sailor. However, Melville actually
believes Delano to be a genius and uses his multiple narrator storytelling style to hide this from the
audience. Many might argue that Captain Delano was not a bright man. He did not jump on the
strange occurrences on the Bachelor s Delight, and Babo fooled him on more than one occasion.
However, Delano did notice the strange happenings: At this moment the young sailor s eye was again
fixed on the whisperers, and Captain Delano thought he observed a lurking significance in it, as if
silent signs of some Freemason sort had that instant been interchanged (Melville 54). ... Show more

He could have relentlessly questioned Cereno, Babo, and the rest of the people on the ship. Yet he puts
it on the backburner until he can figure the whole situation out. His patience is his genius. Had he
attempted to attack Babo and the rest of the ship while he and Cereno were on the San Dominick, he
would likely have been murdered, and his ship would most likely been attacked. But by waiting for
Cereno to come to him, he saved both he and Cereno s lives, took over the San Dominick, and
captured Babo. This secured a great deal of gratitude by Cereno, and the possibility of a large payday
from the Spanish. His genius is hard to see through the

Essay about Affirmative Action is Not Reverse Discrimination
Affirmative Action is Not Reverse Discrimination
Affirmative Action is not meant to help blacks because of the color of their skin, but because they
deserve compensation for past and continuing injustices. Opponents may criticize the wisdom of how
this compensation is meted out, but they cannot question the principle of compensatory damages,
which enjoys a long tradition in our society.
To many opponents of affirmative action, a color blind society should not discriminate at hiring time
on the basis of color, sex, etc. This would make the preferential hiring of blacks just as wrong as
preferential hiring of whites.
Furthermore, opponents claim, the introduction of past injustices does not change this logic. If blacks

The situation is akin to the Jews who survived the Holocaust. Germany paid a large sum in
compensatory damages to the state of Israel after World War II, and no one decried this as reverse
racial discrimination.
Now, opponents of affirmative action may question whether affirmative action is the right way to go
about correcting past and present injustice. For example, can we compensate the living for sins
committed against their ancestors? Is it right to compensate groups instead of specifically harmed
individuals? But these are separate issues, ones that should be addressed elsewhere. (The reader may
find them in the next essay.) The point here is that affirmative action is intended not as reverse
discrimination, but as compensatory damages for injustice.
Moral absolutism
Those who use the term reverse descrimination are actually engaging in moral absolutism, a
completely unworkable concept that has never been practiced by any society in history. An example
may best highlight its difficulties. Suppose our society passed a law that says, No one shall forcefully
take a television set from the possession of another. But the next day your neighbor comes over to
your house with a gun and forcefully takes your television set from you. Having identified your
neighbor, you call the police. The police show up at his door and demand that he surrender the
television; he refuses, whereupon they pull

The most commonly used reconstructive techniques after proximal humeral resection include
osteoarticular allografts , allograft or autograft prosthesis composites.(7)
Risks vary dependent on the choice of reconstruction. Biological reconstruction can be complicated by
fracture, infection, and subchondral collapse, leading to implant revision or removal. Difficulties with
endoprosthetic reconstruction involve consequences of surgical resection of deltoid and rotator cuff.
These include proximal subluxation, instability, and a reduction in functional range of motion .

Aim of the work: The aim of this work was to evaluate the result of (endoprosthetic versus cement

Descriptive Writing Snow
The first snowfall of the year had finally arrived one late November night, blanketing the small cabin

I lazily stared out a large pane window until my gaze locked on a truck, slowly removing the snow on

The Intense Debate Over Cloning
Technology has enabled people to realize many things their ancestors would not have even dreamed
of. Cloning is absolutely one of them. Having identical twins without being born on the same they is
like a dream come true. But what is cloning exactly? Cloning ,particularly in biotechnology, is the
process used to create copies of DNA fragment, cells, or organisms. Attempts at cloning might go
back to much earlier times such as the attempt made by Hans Dreisch in the late 1800 s to clone a sea
urchin, but it was not until 1951, when the first successful clone of frog egg was created, that goal was
finally achieved. Still, the world had to wait for another 44 years before the first mammal was cloned.
It was certainly sensational when the first cloned mammal, a sheep named Dolly was born on 5th July
1996. Since it was a milestone in human story, Dolly gained a world wide fame overnight and took its
place in the front pages of many newspapers and even tabloids next to celebrities. However, there is a
painful twist to this otherwise happy story because the death of Dolly at the age of six brought about
an intense debate particularly about the ethical side of cloning and it has been a controversial issue
ever since. Despite of all the debate it has caused among

likelihood of him suffering from devastating consequences in the future. Fred is a married man who

What Is The Eight Head Theory
2. PATTERN MAKING 2.1 Body Measurement Garment fitting is based on taking body
measurements. So it is very important for a dress maker to know how to take accurate measurements.
For a successful garment cutting, one must know the size and shape of the human body, for which
designing has to be done. Anatomy begins with the eight head theory (Adu Boakye et.al 2012). 2.1.1
Body Anatomy The father of tailoring Mr. Wampon drew seven imaginary lines across the body
structure for the purpose of easy measurement in tailoring. The whole body structure was lengthwise
divided into eight equal parts, which is known as the eight head theory. This theory has become the
foundation of all fashion drawing and for understanding the body shape and structure ... Show more

Essay On Muscle Injury
You often hear about athletes who are unable to play their sport due to a pulled hamstring. In fact, a
pulled hamstring is one of the most common muscle pulls or muscle injury. Your hamstrings are a
group of three muscles that help extend your legs at the hip and flex them at the knee. A pulled
hamstring is a strain or tear in the muscles or tendons.
To understand what causes a hamstring injury you have to know how muscles work. All muscles work
in pairs to perform a task. One set of muscles contracts to exert force while the other set of muscles
relaxes. The hamstring muscles located at the back of the thigh, work with the quadriceps muscle
group in the front of the thigh. When you want to bend your leg, the hamstring muscles contract and
the quadriceps muscles relax. Conversely, when you want to straighten your leg, the quadriceps
muscles contract and the hamstring muscles relax. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This frequently happens with the hamstring muscles. The quadriceps muscles are usually much more
powerful, so the hamstring can become fatigued faster. A fatigued muscle cannot relax as easily when
its opposing muscle contracts, leading to strains.
Muscle strains are overuse injuries that result when the muscle is stretched without being properly
warmed up. An injury to the hamstring is usually readily apparent. Mild strains may involve simple,
uncomfortable tightening of the muscle. More severe injuries may result in a sharp pain in the back of
the thigh, usually in full stride. A rupture or tear may leave you unable to stand or walk, muscles may
be tender to the touch and painful to stretch your leg. Within a few days after a tear the area may
appear very bruised.
Remember RICE and you will know the immediate treatment protocol for many sports related
injuries, including hamstring pulls or

Use Of Discourse And Social Media Within The Arab Spring
Throughout the years there have been many Occupy Movements; Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Central
in Hong Kong and Occupy Nigeria are just a few that were inspired by the Arab Spring. Looking at
the Arab Spring in terms of ideas of power is a useful framework because it enables us to gain
information which could be useful for future occupy movements as well as giving us a different
interpretation to that of the social norm. We will then be able to connect that newly analysed idea of
power with obedience and disobedience within the Arab Spring.
Power is often seen as being held by those in authority positions such as Presidents, prime ministers
and military officials. We are able to reflect on this traditional notion of power and connect it with the
power at play in the Arab Spring, and thus gain an in depth look into the idea of discourse and social
media within the Arab Spring. Through the post structural theory and prominent thinkers such as
Hobbes and Foucault we are able to look at the Arab Spring in a broad sense, looking at ideas such as
the Ripple Effect which other theories may not enable us to look at. Also introduced will be the
perspective of Max Weber s structuralist theory, this stark contrast of post structuralism will further
solidify the idea that looking at the Arab Spring with the post structural theory is a useful framework.
The idea of Occupy movements and ideas of power is not confined to a particular political or
economic form of government (The Subject

Difficult intra venous access is cauterized as multiple attempts and/or the prediction of special veins
that are easier to access and maintain peripheral venous access. Predictive issues for difficult IV
access include obesity, history of IV drug use, and edema. Factors associated with difficult IV access
in adult include chemotherapy, multiple prior hospitalization, and diabetes. [1] it is noted that
intravenous cannulation that s done by more experienced emergency medical staff was associated with
higher success rate. IV cannulas with smaller gates were commonly associated with failure
cannulation. This result was concluded to be due to the choice of person applying IV cannulation, and
the predicted difficulties of insertion. [2] Intravenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How did the Persian kings control/govern the various parts of their realm? Consider at least three

The origins of Cyrus the Great are rather unclear and highly disputed. Multiple accounts range from
him being the grandson of the Median King Astyages to being the son of a poor Persian family of a
disreputable clan. Although there can be no certainty, as with most everything from the ancient world,
it is widely believed that, by heredity, he became the sub king of a Persian land called Persis, under
the rule of the Median king Astyages. (Cook 1983, 25 26) He quickly expanded his power by unifying

After conquering Media, Babylonia, and Egypt, for instance, Cyrus The Great and Cambyses II would
make a personal union with the peoples of these countries. They would crown themselves according to
the local customs, and created normal conditions for the development of the economy and transit
trade. They retained, with moderate altercations, the local political structures in these countries, and
offered the peoples a large degree of local self government. These first two kings proved to have not
created a very well structured empire, however, which led to the multiple uprisings from 523 521
BCE. (Gershevitch 1985, 502 504) From there, Darius I, the King who proceeded Cambyses II, found
a more stable balance by putting in place a more organized administrative system that would not
undergo any fundamental changes up until the demise of the Achaemenid Empire.
The system that Darius I put in place split the empire up into roughly twenty satrapies that would be
governed by satraps. The satraps were responsible for collecting the annual tribute set by the king,
drafting people to the army, and maintaining justice and security within their satrapy. The satraps
would also have an armed force at their disposal to keep everybody within their satrapy in line.
(Gershevitch 1985, 267) Inspectors would also periodically visit each satrapy to

Youth brutality insights demonstrate this is a significant issue: A normal of 15 youngsters are killed

senior secondary school understudies are included in tormenting every year as the casualty, spook, or

Biography of Elizabeth Blackburn
Elizabeth Blackburn s adolescence was similar to that of other girls growing up in the 1960s. She
followed current trends in fashion, listened to the Beatles, and had siblings whom she argued with but
also admired. Additionally, she was also a model student who consistently achieved high marks in
academics. Being the fifth of seven children, her siblings considered her the most self motivated of the
bunch; worrying less about pleasing others and more about independent success. Although Blackburn
s family background is primarily English, she was born in Hobart, Tasmania, three years after the
conclusion of World War II. Her father s family travelled to Austrailia from Northern England in 1882.

In doing so, she aimed to support her younger sisters, Margaret and Caroline, and blunt the toll of their
mother s illness (Brady; ch. 2). With all of the activity surround Elizabeth Blackburn, the presence of
gender inequality hadn t become fully apparent. Gendered comments such as What s a nice girl like
you doing in science? were common but Blackburn would initially ignore the question of why
biochemistry and gender were so frequently discussed as a joint topic (Brady; ch. 1). Yet at the same
time, finding a balance between when, where, and to what degree of femininity she should express
was always an unrelenting battle in the back of her mind. Of course, Blackburn attributed her lack of
initial awareness as a defense mechanism that she is later acquiesced halfheartedly. That is, she
shielded herself against conflict by not challenging norms to sustain a genderless state of mind (Brady;
ch. 2). Blackburn s first real research experience occurred during her fourth year as an undergraduate
at Melbourne under the supervision of Theo Dopheide and Barrie Davidson. Her role was
characterizing and purifying an enzyme used by a specific bacteria to better understand its
involvement in biosynthesis of phenylalanine. Blackburn first assayed for enzymatic activity using
bacteria cell extracts for purification. Then, she used electrophoresis to determine its mass. While her

Jeremy Bentham Principles Of Utilitarianism
Jeremy Bentham was born in Houndsditch, London on 15 February 1748. He was the eldest son of
Alicia Whitehorn, née Grove, who on 3 October 1745 had entered into he second marriage with
Jeremiah Bentham, a successful practitioner in the Court of Chancery. Six further children were born,
of whom only the youngest, Samuel, born in 1757, survived beyond infancy. Death was never far
away and on 6 January 1759, when Jeremy was ten years old, he lost his mother. By 1755 he was
considered robust enough to go to Westminster School. It was in 1769 that Bentham found a purpose

Bentham brought together various elements from these thinkers to construct his version of the
principle of UTILITY.
UTILITARIANISM:
Jeremy Bentham was a leading theorist in Anglo American philosophy of law and one of the founders
of utilitarianism. He developed this idea of a utility and a utilitarian calculus in the Introduction to the
Principles of Morals and Legislation (1781).In the beginning of that work Bentham wrote: Nature has
placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain and pleasure. It is for them alone
to point out what we ought to do, as well as to determine what we shall do. On the one hand the
standard of right and wrong, on the other the chain of causes and effects, are fastened to their throne.
They govern us in all we do, in all we say, in all we think: every effort we can make to throw off our
subjection, will serve but to demonstrate and confirm it.
Bentham believed that pain and pleasure not only explain our actions but also help us define what is
good and moral. He believed that this foundation could provide a basis for social, legal, and moral
reform in society. To determine whether an action is moral you merely have to calculate the good

School Experience In High School
As a small child in elementary school, I can remember the anticipation of unstructured recess that
followed our daily lunch routine. Ordinarily, the bell for lunch would ring. The teacher would line
everyone up and that is when the excitement would erupt. Immediately the chatter of little voices
commenced among the students as they collaborated with their peers about what they desired to
conquer first. At that very moment imaginations exploded! Were to begin? Would be the question on
everyone s mind. Where would the perfect place to meet up with your friends be? Would it be the
luxurious field full of dandelions? Or the merry go rounds, slides, swings, monkey bars, jump ropes,
the possibilities were endless. The instant lunchtime was over the teachers would open the portal to a
wondrous world of whimsical delight: The Playground! Instantly the deafening sound of screeching
chairs sliding across the cafeteria floor would erupt. Followed simultaneously with the rumble of wild,
uncontrollable energy bursting through the cafeteria doors. Students scattered uncontrollably; running
competitively to their previously discussed desired positions. FREEDOM a time to run wild with no
cares, no worries, a time to jump, and holler. A time to enjoy being a kid. A time to appreciate being
with friends. A measure of time with limited restrictions unstructured recess. Years ago we did not

During the Egyptian campaign, Napoleon s army suffered from what was probably infectious
jaundice. Infectious jaundice occurred among troops during the American Civil War.It was also
reported among troops at Gallipoli and other battles of World War I, where the sodden conditions of
trench warfare favored infection. Terms used in early 20th century descriptions of leptospirosis
include the pseudo dengue of Java, seven day fever, autumn fever, Akiyama disease, and marsh or
swamp fever. L icterohaemorrhagieae was identified as the causative agent in Pre World War II
outbreaks in Japan, which were characterized by jaundice and a high mortality rate.
In October 2010 British rower Andy Holmes died after contracting Weil s disease.
Causes
Leptospirosis is caused by a spirochaete bacterium called Leptospira spp. that has at least 5 serovars of

Pomona, Grippotyphosa, and Bratislava).
There are other (less common) infectious strains. Genetically different leptospira organisms may be

The Empire And The Persian Empire Essay
Throughout history many civilizations have risen and fallen without so much of a second thought from
historians. However there have been civilizations that climbed to the top of the metaphorical food
chain and stayed there and influenced not only their region but the world for countless millennium
even after they were no longer a functioning empire. Two such empires were the Roman Empire and
the Persian Empire. The first factor to consider when thinking of successful empires would be
geographical location. The second factor would have to be the leadership, and the third would have to
be the method in which the empire expands. All of these factors are what makes a small civilization
with great potential a formidable empire that lasts longer than a lifetime. The best place to the start has
been and will always be the beginning. The beginning in this case is the earth, the geographical
qualities that a land holds can do wonders for the way a civilization not only defends themselves but
how they develop agriculturally and socially. A geographical location that is open and allows trades
with neighboring societies can promote a sense of community that leads to less fighting and more
diplomatic solutions, while a more isolated society may believe that other civilizations can only be
destroyed, conquered, and their people sold into slavery. These are very extreme points of view;
however, we have seen these throughout history. Native American Indians, though they lived in

50 s and early 60 s Sinatra remained the top seller in the album market. He worked with everyone
from his early inspiration Bing Crosby to young rock stars such as Quincy Jones and Elvis Presley.
Besides from being an excellent singer, Frank could act. He starred in such films as The Man with the
Golden Arm, Suddenly, and one of his greatest films Guys and Dolls. MGM said he (Frank) was so
skinny, he wouldn t throw a shadow. I told them he would throw the biggest shadow Hollywood has
ever seen (George Sidney 2). And in 1953, Frank did just that. He won an Academy Award in Best
Supporting Actor for the role of Maggio in movie From Here to Eternity.
In 1939, Frank fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams; he married his childhood sweetheart Nancy
Barbato. He had three kids: Nancy Sandra, Franklin Wayne Emmanuel (Frank Jr.), and Christina.
However, in 1949, Frank divorced Nancy after ten years of marriage because of an affair involving
Frank and Ava Gardner. This ran his career into a severe crisis. He was fired from his radio show,
Columbia wanted him out, and six months later his New York concerts flopped! To make matters
worse, he lost his voice do to vocal cord

Alfred Adler s Influence On Personality
Introduction
Alfred Adler, the founding father of Individual Psychology was one of the first theorists to suggest
that birth order influences personality ( Gustafson, 2010). As what is expected of the oldest is different
than the middle or youngest child. Adler started with this idea on birth order and others have
continued down this path of research. Having lived through WWI, Serving as a physician, with the
Austrian Army at the Russian front, and then in a children s hospital (Adler, 2014). He was in a unique
position to study people specifically children in the aftermath of war.
Biography portion
Alfred Adler (1870 1937) was born in Penzing, Austria, the 2nd son of a Jewish grain merchant. In
poor health as a child, he did not walk until age four because of rickets; at age five Adler developed
pneumonia and was a close call for him, (Adler.2014). This was only a few of his childhood struggles.
In 1895 he received his medical degree from the University of Vienna (Schultz, 2011, p330). He
specialized in ophthalmology and practiced general medicine. When he became interested in
psychiatry in 1902, he joined Sigmund Freud s weekly discussion group on psychoanalysis, one of
four charter members (Schultz, 2011, p330). He was the first president of Freud s Vienna
Psychoanalytic Society, but was later voted out over disagreements with Freud single minded focus on
the male sex organ or the lack one depending on client s gender. In 1911, Adler split with Freud

The Struggle For Women In The Early 20th Century
Women rights are human rights, and human rights are women s rights, (Hillary Clinton). The year was
1648 at the time the law stated that anyone who owned land was permitted to vote, although despite
the fact that Margaret Brent was a landowner at the time she was denied the right to vote simply
because she was a women. It was 1848 when the battle for equal rights fighting to bring an end to
women s suffrage began. In 1870 the 15th amendment was passed which gave African Americans the
right to vote, this served as a realization to women that they were not being treated equally. For
decades in the early 20th century, women have been in a battle to gain equal rights for self identity,
which influenced them during times of war by leading them to gaining jobs, and during ... Show more

After world war two, women continuously continued to rebel by their appearance they now began to
dress less feminine to demonstrate their new found power. In 1947 the so called clothing restriction
came to an end and women were finally allowed to dress however they pleased, they began to lose the
glamorous material and clothing and began to dress more masculine. (Glamor Daze).Women found a
peaceful way to rebel against stereotypical beliefs of feminism through fashion. They used fashion as
a reminder that they ran the country during World War 2 and are capable of more than men make it
seem. Rosie the Riveter was one of the biggest female icons, she was used in an attempt to attract
women to the work force and it served to represent the massive increase of about 65% working
women during the war (History.com). Rosie the Riveter demonstrated the power that women withheld
during the countries time of need. Women during and after World War 2 changed their identity from
fragile housewifes who relied on their husbands to strong independent working

Forrest Rainforest Observation Paper
For my observation, I choose to visit the area of the Stanislaus National Forrest. I had wanted to see
the changes over the few years from the rim fire. I headed up to the 120 towards Groveland and got as
far as I could, but the road was closed. I stop for a moment to observe the area, and decided that I
would take a different route to the area where I could look down below to see if I can catch anything
with the Rim Fire affects.
In August of 2013, a severe and fast spreading fire, called Dubbed as the well known largest fire in
history, as The Rim Fire. The fire ha burned much of the forestland an area of approximately 402
square miles. I could see some of the damage and affects, even as of this visit a few years after it
happened. Surprisingly, in some areas along the many miles and ranges we traveled to stop, some
looked even more burned out than others did, then some areas looked untouched where some areas
almost next door on another turn seemed destroyed. Many areas along these mountains were eerily
quiet. It felt chilling and creepy. Yet, it was peaceful and still I could find beauty in the death that
occurred. Later, the Rim Fire was investigated and found to have been caused by a careless hunter, one
man and his idea to start an illegal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I decided we would take it slow by car. It was a one lined road, mainly although two cars could pass
by it was very rocky, dirty, and had no shoulder. This seemed to be leading us around somewhere. I
didn t find many signs to where this road would take us. However, the valley below was beautiful. I
could see some effects of the rim fire, not up close and personal in the hot zone that I wanted to or
ground zero that I had wanted to but enough that I could get an Idea what the area looked like from
that view point. There were several areas along the way I could pull over as far as possible along the
mountain and exit the car and walk to

Charles S. Pierce
Charles S. Pierce discusses how logic should be our guide to making our ideas clear. He starts by
defining the differences between clear and obscure conceptions a clear conception being once that will
not be mistaken for another and an obscure one being one that fails to provide such clearness. He also
touches on distinct and confused ideas. A distinct idea would be that which contains nothing obscure
or as Pierce calls it clearness in the first grade. Pierce leads us to analyze the value of clarity he is
referring to mentioning how in some cases it may be too strong or too weak. Descartes, through his
work on self consciousness was led to understand that since not all ideas are true they must then be
clear but never noticed if they only seemed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He calls on how doubt incites action, which leads to belief. In his example of how he would decide
how to pay for his horse car fare referring to how his doubt arises from momentary indecision and his
decision in the end will become a belief he will later use. He uses another example of him waiting in
the railway and analyzing the different routes he could take as how doubt can sometimes be
intentional as well but nevertheless it always leads to belief. Belief is a very strong weapon, which
Pierce, certainly attains much power to in making our ideas clear. Even as he mentions it may take
years to achieve, once achieved it will stick with us. He also brings into attention consciousness,
which can be immediate or mediate. He relates this to music and how we are immediately conscious
of the notes while mediately conscious of the melody just like sensations are like notes and our
thoughts like the melody. We must be aware of the difference between sensations and thoughts in
order to fully understand the concept of belief. He states belief has three properties, it is something we
are aware of, something that settles doubt and it results in a

The Current Educational Curriculum Faces
Introduction
There are various kinds of pressures that the current educational curriculum faces. Such pressures
include ensuring the rights of children are protected, ensuring that cultural diversity in learning
institutions is not a barrier to learning, making the education system provide learners with essential
skills that can enable them participate and compete effectively in the globalized world, ensuring that
children from economically challenged backgrounds obtain information similar to their counterparts
that come from wealthy backgrounds and enabling learners to learn independently (Ananiadou
Claro,2009). Therefore, the system must be consistent with national priorities, it must also take
consideration of the fundamental changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So it is necessary to apply care and relationship education in a classroom is by creating a classroom
community. This will create an environment where students feel valued and connected to their teacher
and to one another. Some of the benefits of a school community include the growth of students social,
emotional, and academic competence, improvement in collaborative learning, positive relationships
with others, and inclusion. When students are involved with a community, their behavior can change
and allow students to be more concerned about others, improved skills in resolving conflict, and an
anti bullying environment. In a community environment, student s motivation is improved and their
attendance is also improved.
Moral education
The current system of education faces a challenge of enhancing social justice. In this case, social
justice entails privileging the underprivileged students to ensure they obtain the skills that their
privileged counterparts obtain. Ideally, many students emerge from different economic backgrounds.
Students that emerge from wealthy backgrounds can obtain all education that they might need.
However, those that are underprivileged are less likely to obtain an essential education because they
cannot afford it (Darling Hammond, 2015). Therefore, the school curriculum has a task of establishing
measures of ensuring that every student obtains the required information regardless of his or her
economic background to make

Similarities Between Kenya And The United States
The United Nations Development Program is a global development network tasked with the
responsibility of advocating for change in various countries. The body works to eradicate poverty and
reduce inequalities through sustainable development. Several dimensions including health, education
and income measure human development. Each of the three dimensions has their specific indicators.
This exposition will compare the data on two countries and explain why they rank in different
categories. The two countries of interest are Kenya and the United States. The countries rank
differently on the various indicators. The paper will try to answer why this is so. Kenya is presently
ranked at position 147 with a human development index of 0.535. On the other hand, the United States
ranks 5th with an average of 0.914. Kenya has its life expectancy at birth at 61.72 while that of the
United States is 78.94. The reason for the quite high figure is due to the improved health care facilities
that the country possesses. There are enough medicines and medical equipment to respond adequately
to emergencies. Kenya does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a nutshell, the population in the United States is more educated than their Kenyan counterparts.
There are numerous reasons that could explain the above situation. The education system of the
United States is more developed as there are good policies that govern the education sector. The
access to education is high because of the numerous numbers of schools that are in place. The teaching
personnel is sufficient thus the low teacher to pupil ratio. The same can barely be said about Kenya.
This country has a limited number of schools compared to its population. Individuals find it harder to
access education primarily due to their scarcity. The transition rates are also quite low and the teaching
staff inadequate resulting in a high teacher pupil

Hydrogen Fusion Research Paper

12. Why do thermonuclear reactions in the Sun take place only in its core? Thermonuclear reactions
take place when the nuclei of atoms are fused together due to extreme temperatures (G 13). The
temperature of the Suns core is 15.5 X 10^6 and at temperatures above 10 X 10^6 hydrogen fuses into
the element helium (hydrogen fusion). Therefore the core is the only place on the Sun where
Thermonuclear reactions are able to take place. Additionally the fusion that occurs in the Suns core is
enough to account for all of the energy that is emitted to the Sun (326).
13. What is hydrogen fusion? This process is sometimes called hydrogen burning . How is hydrogen
burning fundamentally unlike the burning of a log in the fire place? Hydrogen Fusion is a
thermonuclear process which produces the Suns energy. During the process four hydrogen nuclei
release energy when they fuse together in order to create a single helium nucleus (334). Hydrogen
burning is unlike the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What prevents a neutron star from collapsing? They have no electric charge and very little mass and
for a star to be able to collapse it must have a high mass (414). Therefore neutron stars cannot
collapse.
7. What is a planetary nebula, and how does it form? A planetary nebula is a luminous shell of gas that
comes out of an old star with a low mass (G 9). When enough of the gas leaves a star for the core to
become visible, the expanding dust and gases form a planetary nebula (408). 12. What is the mass
range of neutron stars? The range of neutron stars is millisecond pulsars. Millisecond pulsars is the
name of companions pulsars which connect the mass of a star but not necessarily a neutron star. The
extra weight after the connection allows the star to gain a faster speed while falling (434 9th edition).

The Structural Change Of The Inner City Job Market
The drastic reduction of stable manufacturing work in American cities remains one of the biggest, if
not the foremost, issue linked to poverty. The growth in blue collar factory, transportation and
construction jobs that were traditionally held by men has dissipated for a variety of reasons, from
Globalization to the rise in Illegal Immigration. This structural change in the inner city job market is
of particular interest because of the amalgamation of both Economics and Poverty/Segregation issues.
Without clearly defining and addressing this crucial structural issue, the war on poverty will be
extremely difficult to successfully address and overcome. It is difficult to overstate the extent to which
the reduction of traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The closure of big factories and the like ravished the Union industry, which had previously negotiated
rather lofty compensation deals with the corporations. Clerical jobs also garnered about 30% lower in
wages, which added to the growing plight of poverty. Women traditionally staffed the new clerical
jobs and were aided with the rise in women s rights. On the other hand, these men, primarily African
American as will be discussed later, had almost no alternatives or any light at the end of the tunnel,
considering the many obstacles in their path adapting to the changing world. The ethnic group affected
most by this structural shift in job market is African Americans and played a significant part in the
continuation of their high poverty levels. The Great Migration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries
led to millions of Blacks moving North hoping for a better life and escaping the cruel post Civil war
and Jim Crow environment in the South. As Massey writes, this led to the formation of the black
Ghetto : highly concentrated black neighborhoods in many Northern cities. Whilst today the Ghetto
holds a negative connotation for some, it is important to note that Black intellectuals like Booker T.
Washington were actually in favor of creating such ghettos early on. In their minds, the creation of
independent, self sustaining black neighborhoods would lead to economic sustenance, a vibrant
African American culture a.k.a. Harlem Renaissance ,

  • 2. Holt s Case Study 2. How does the class s average TRC for each gender compare with Holt s (1952) data? The average number of TRC for males in my class is around 129, for female it is 102. For Holt s data the average for males is around 200 and for females is slightly under 200. It s a difference in numbers, but in every other detail it is fairly similar. 3. How does your personal TRC compare with the class average and Holt s (1952) data? The data are similar in the way they are set up. However, Holt separated the females and males, Holt also determined exactly which finger was being counted and Holt is very much specific in the data collected. 4. Why are the classroom averages different (they likely are...) from Holt s (1952) data? What could explain the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In what ways does Mendelian genetics differ from polygenic inheritance? Mendelian genetics differs from polygenic inheritance because one trait is controlled by one gene in specific. There is also a dominant and a recessive. In polygenic inheritance one trait may be controlled by two or more genes. 6. In what ways are the two models of inheritance the same? The many genes that are controlling a polygenic trait are all inherited by Mendelian genetics. While the genes individually contain Mendelian inheritance, the trait itself does not because a vast amount of genes are involved in making it specific. 7. Unfortunately, the χ2 test is mathematically unsuitable for use with averages. What statistical test could we use to determine if our average TRC is really the same as Holt s (1952) data? In order to compare our average TRC to that of Holt s (1952), we can use a t test. In Holt s experiment she is comparing the frequency of the total ridge count between males and females. The Chi Square cannot be used on this data set because a Chi Square test could only work when there is a significant difference between what is expected and what is observe. It would not work on the values use on the two averages on males and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These journal sources are reliable, and accurate, except for some population and statistics data. The accuracy of statistics and population are not entirely accurate due to rising populations and changing laws in the countries mentioned. Scope of analysis This article will cover various topics on the castration of sexual offenders across the globe and what some countries are discussing as treatment or punishment options. The history of the use of castration for the purpose of treating sexual offences dates back less than a century. Also covered, will be the drawbacks and the comparison to the positive effects of using surgical verses chemical castration. Although it is not a particularly old practice, several tests have been performed with some surprising results. One particular test in Korea provides a large amount of statistical data, showing some of the various side effects and averaged results of treatment. From this test, many points and conclusions can be drawn. Other sources provide more data that backs up these findings, and provides many of their own findings such as the side effects and large cost of some treatment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Superhero Genre Is Classified By A Fight Of Good Vs. Evil The superhero genre is classified by a fight of good vs. evil. The heroes and the villains are complex characters driven by motives that are not always black and white. Besides dealing with fictional characters, superhero comic books often incorporate real life difficulties, such as racism, sexism, and drug use. The storylines are driven by the superheroes fight against the forces of evil, but the underlying story often deals with conflicting moral dilemmas and self doubt. The superheroes have secret identities and strut around in colorful costumes, but behind these personas, lay a story of triumph and defeat. The true appeal of comics is not the colorful character who follows it but the dark, gritty storylines that cause the reader to view the world and humanity in a new light. In Batman #134 , written in 1960 by Bill Finger, a few of these requirements are addressed. This comic follows Batman and Robin s adventure in an undisclosed South American republic. The major conflict lies with a man named Diaz, who releases a monster known as The Rainbow Creature. This creature terrorizes the village until Batman uses his world class detective skills to defeat the beast. The storyline is quickly wrapped up in a span of nine pages, and the childish tone of the comic causes the intrigue of the story to be lost on the reader. On the other hand, Batman: Ego, written by Darwyn Cooke in 2000, deals with the harsh atmosphere of Gotham. The comic tells the story of a wounded Batman and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Dieppe Raid Essay The Dieppe Raid #65279; At dawn of 19th August 1942, six thousand and one hundred Allied soldiers, of whom roughly five thousand were Canadians, landed at the French port of Dieppe in their first major test of the defence of the German held coastline of Europe since Dunkirk. A combination of over rigid planning, inadequate communication; lack of supporting firepower; and in the final hour before the raid, absolute bad luck inflicted on the Allies made the Dieppe raid one of their worst defeats in World War Two. The codename given to the operation was Jubilee and its aim was to capture Dieppe to provide the Allied war planners with the vital information about the enemy preparedness for the Russians to relieve their ... A fairly considerable assault fleet was being built up, and although Combined Operations Headquarters (C.O.H.Q) had experience of small operations employing infantry landing ships and assault and mechanized landing craft, there were now available also tank landing craft which had not yet been under fire; and there had been no experience of what was involved in handling a fleet of all these types in action. At this point the planning for the raid seemed a purely British conception without any argument form other Allied force Commanders (Robertson, 72). For the main assault force, C.O.H.Q called upon the services of the 2nd Canadian Division, under the command of Major General John Hamilton Roberts. The Canadian government knew its men were frustrated and demoralized by inactivity, pressured the British government to send them into action at the earliest opportunity Dieppe (Whitehead, 65). While the Canadians were assembling and beginning their training in the Isle of Wight, detailed planning was proceeding in London, under the direction of Lord Louis Mountbatten, the three Force Commanders, and the General Montgomery. Once, advertising showed the public what the product did, but now it persuades them to purchase the identity of the item what it means to buy or use it. The persistence of earnings and earnings components after the adoption of IFRS Based on the research paper of Doukakis (2010), working with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) may impact determining earnings and earnings components. An analysis of data collected from all non financial companies listed on the Athens Stock Exchange, before and after the implementation of the IFRS, implies that the adoption of the IFRS system does not appear to have a positive impact on earnings. Because of the use of the IFRS for a better financial reporting and an ease in decision making process, the utilization of other accounting procedures are restricted, which results in a decrease in reporting accounting data. A critical observation, based on the empirical findings, suggests that IFRS adoption has no effect on the persistence of earnings and earnings components for profitability in future. On the other hand, the outcome of the findings, illustrates that using the IFRS principles appears to reduce the persistence of operating income (for the year 2006) as well as the persistence of non operating income (for the years 2005 and 2006) (Doukakis, 2010). In other words, the study was able to prove that, although it does not entail that IFRS earnings are of a lower quality, an immediate decline in the explanatory power of all research models occur after implementation of IFRS. • 9. Naval Athens and the Rise of Athenian Democracy Essay There is no coincidence that the rise of Athenian Democracy goes chronologically hand in hand with the rise of the Athenian Navy. Following the defeat of the Persians by the Greeks, Athens naval successes allow it to surpass the previous naval power of Corinth; create the Delian league to fund and support this navy; and eventually ruffle enough feathers with their fellow Hellenic neighbours that they inspire the Peloponnesian war. Overall their naval reputation and intimidation comes from the skill of the men who maneuver and command the ships, and the tool they use to wield their power, the Athenian trireme. By looking at the design of the trireme, and the work and numbers put both into the ship and the men that drive it, hopefully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... TRIREMES AND SHIPBUILDING Triremes were unfortunately had to make stops on shore nightly whenever possible, because they ship needed to dry out and the crew would be given time to rest and eat without being confined to the smaller space available in the trireme (Jordan 1975). This was not always the case though; there is a recalling of a time when a trireme did have to sail through the night, when one ship had to catch up to the trireme headed to Mytilene (Jordan 1975). This type of travel was possible with a trireme, but it would sail slightly slower since men had to take turns rowing, eating barley cakes and wine (Thucydides 1996)(3.49.4), and sleeping, since they had not enough room for everyone to take a break at once. Another example is when they couldn t anchor at Pylos, men took their meals on shore in their turn (4.26.3)(Thucydides 1996). This would not have done any harsh damage to the ship in small amounts, but if it were to travel this way consistently there would be definite problems with ship maintenance. To actually build a trireme, it consisted of a number of different types of resources and uniquely skilled laborers. The ship was built shell first , meaning the side planks were constructed before laying in the backbone , keel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, many people have found that natural gas tankless heat the water faster than regular heaters, especially if you purchase a high quality heater. • 11. Delano s Genius In Benito Cereno, By Herman Melville Adam Mandel 6 October 2014 L204 Delano s Genius The story of Benito Cereno is written by Herman Melville, yet is narrated by the captain of the Bachelor s Delight, Amasa Delano. By using an in story narrator, Melville seems to divorce himself from the action, and any opinions he may have about the characters. The reader is forced to watch the events unfold through the eyes of Delano, and this deceives the audience into thinking Delano is a senseless, aloof sailor. However, Melville actually believes Delano to be a genius and uses his multiple narrator storytelling style to hide this from the audience. Many might argue that Captain Delano was not a bright man. He did not jump on the strange occurrences on the Bachelor s Delight, and Babo fooled him on more than one occasion. However, Delano did notice the strange happenings: At this moment the young sailor s eye was again fixed on the whisperers, and Captain Delano thought he observed a lurking significance in it, as if silent signs of some Freemason sort had that instant been interchanged (Melville 54). ... But by waiting for Cereno to come to him, he saved both he and Cereno s lives, took over the San Dominick, and captured Babo. • 12. Essay about Affirmative Action is Not Reverse Discrimination Affirmative Action is Not Reverse Discrimination Affirmative Action is not meant to help blacks because of the color of their skin, but because they deserve compensation for past and continuing injustices. Opponents may criticize the wisdom of how this compensation is meted out, but they cannot question the principle of compensatory damages, which enjoys a long tradition in our society. To many opponents of affirmative action, a color blind society should not discriminate at hiring time on the basis of color, sex, etc. This would make the preferential hiring of blacks just as wrong as preferential hiring of whites. Furthermore, opponents claim, the introduction of past injustices does not change this logic. If blacks were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The situation is akin to the Jews who survived the Holocaust. Germany paid a large sum in compensatory damages to the state of Israel after World War II, and no one decried this as reverse racial discrimination. Now, opponents of affirmative action may question whether affirmative action is the right way to go about correcting past and present injustice. For example, can we compensate the living for sins committed against their ancestors? Is it right to compensate groups instead of specifically harmed individuals? But these are separate issues, ones that should be addressed elsewhere. (The reader may find them in the next essay.) The point here is that affirmative action is intended not as reverse discrimination, but as compensatory damages for injustice. Moral absolutism Those who use the term reverse descrimination are actually engaging in moral absolutism, a completely unworkable concept that has never been practiced by any society in history. An example may best highlight its difficulties. Suppose our society passed a law that says, No one shall forcefully take a television set from the possession of another. But the next day your neighbor comes over to your house with a gun and forcefully takes your television set from you. Having identified your neighbor, you call the police. • 17. Descriptive Writing Snow The first snowfall of the year had finally arrived one late November night, blanketing the small cabin and surrounding forest with fresh, powdery snow. The wind howled through the leafless trees, often relieving the weighed down branches of their snowy burden. The smooth and unblemished snow coated everything, leaving the road to the cabin indistinguishable from the surrounding terrain. I lazily stared out a large pane window until my gaze locked on a truck, slowly removing the snow on the winding road with its bright yellow plow. I jumped up from the warm couch, running across the dark, hardwood floors of the living room and onto the gray tiles of the kitchen. • 19. The Intense Debate Over Cloning Technology has enabled people to realize many things their ancestors would not have even dreamed of. Cloning is absolutely one of them. Having identical twins without being born on the same they is like a dream come true. But what is cloning exactly? Cloning ,particularly in biotechnology, is the process used to create copies of DNA fragment, cells, or organisms. Attempts at cloning might go back to much earlier times such as the attempt made by Hans Dreisch in the late 1800 s to clone a sea urchin, but it was not until 1951, when the first successful clone of frog egg was created, that goal was finally achieved. Still, the world had to wait for another 44 years before the first mammal was cloned. It was certainly sensational when the first cloned mammal, a sheep named Dolly was born on 5th July 1996. Since it was a milestone in human story, Dolly gained a world wide fame overnight and took its place in the front pages of many newspapers and even tabloids next to celebrities. However, there is a painful twist to this otherwise happy story because the death of Dolly at the age of six brought about an intense debate particularly about the ethical side of cloning and it has been a controversial issue ever since. In fact, a pulled hamstring is one of the most common muscle pulls or muscle injury. Your hamstrings are a group of three muscles that help extend your legs at the hip and flex them at the knee. A pulled hamstring is a strain or tear in the muscles or tendons. To understand what causes a hamstring injury you have to know how muscles work. All muscles work in pairs to perform a task. One set of muscles contracts to exert force while the other set of muscles relaxes. The hamstring muscles located at the back of the thigh, work with the quadriceps muscle group in the front of the thigh. Use Of Discourse And Social Media Within The Arab Spring Throughout the years there have been many Occupy Movements; Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Central in Hong Kong and Occupy Nigeria are just a few that were inspired by the Arab Spring. Looking at the Arab Spring in terms of ideas of power is a useful framework because it enables us to gain information which could be useful for future occupy movements as well as giving us a different interpretation to that of the social norm. We will then be able to connect that newly analysed idea of power with obedience and disobedience within the Arab Spring. Power is often seen as being held by those in authority positions such as Presidents, prime ministers and military officials. We are able to reflect on this traditional notion of power and connect it with the power at play in the Arab Spring, and thus gain an in depth look into the idea of discourse and social media within the Arab Spring. Through the post structural theory and prominent thinkers such as Hobbes and Foucault we are able to look at the Arab Spring in a broad sense, looking at ideas such as the Ripple Effect which other theories may not enable us to look at. Also introduced will be the perspective of Max Weber s structuralist theory, this stark contrast of post structuralism will further solidify the idea that looking at the Arab Spring with the post structural theory is a useful framework. • 38. The Empire And The Persian Empire Essay Throughout history many civilizations have risen and fallen without so much of a second thought from historians. However there have been civilizations that climbed to the top of the metaphorical food chain and stayed there and influenced not only their region but the world for countless millennium even after they were no longer a functioning empire. Two such empires were the Roman Empire and the Persian Empire. The first factor to consider when thinking of successful empires would be geographical location. The second factor would have to be the leadership, and the third would have to be the method in which the empire expands. All of these factors are what makes a small civilization with great potential a formidable empire that lasts longer than a lifetime. The best place to the start has been and will always be the beginning. The beginning in this case is the earth, the geographical qualities that a land holds can do wonders for the way a civilization not only defends themselves but how they develop agriculturally and socially. A geographical location that is open and allows trades with neighboring societies can promote a sense of community that leads to less fighting and more diplomatic solutions, while a more isolated society may believe that other civilizations can only be destroyed, conquered, and their people sold into slavery. These are very extreme points of view; however, we have seen these throughout history. Native American Indians, though they lived in different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He also brings into attention consciousness, which can be immediate or mediate. He relates this to music and how we are immediately conscious of the notes while mediately conscious of the melody just like sensations are like notes and our thoughts like the melody. We must be aware of the difference between sensations and thoughts in order to fully understand the concept of belief. • 47. Hydrogen Fusion Research Paper Page 335 12. Why do thermonuclear reactions in the Sun take place only in its core? Thermonuclear reactions take place when the nuclei of atoms are fused together due to extreme temperatures (G 13). The temperature of the Suns core is 15.5 X 10^6 and at temperatures above 10 X 10^6 hydrogen fuses into the element helium (hydrogen fusion). Therefore the core is the only place on the Sun where Thermonuclear reactions are able to take place. Additionally the fusion that occurs in the Suns core is enough to account for all of the energy that is emitted to the Sun (326). 13. What is hydrogen fusion? This process is sometimes called hydrogen burning . How is hydrogen burning fundamentally unlike the burning of a log in the fire place? This structural change in the inner city job market is of particular interest because of the amalgamation of both Economics and Poverty/Segregation issues.
