Mass Shooting Debate
In the last ten months, since the start of the year 2015, proximally 300 mass shootings have taken
place in the United States. This number is about 100 times the amount of mass shootings in Australia
since their gun restricting bill was passed in 1996. This raises the discussion whether or not changing
the American gun laws would help bring down the total of injuries and fatalities.
In 1791, the second amendment was added to the American constitution, stating that every US citizen
had the right to bear and own a gun. This is still the case in modern day America. In fact an 18 year
old cannot buy any alcohol, but does have the possibility to walk in a store and buy a gun, often
without any license or experience. It is likely that when this amendment is abolished the average
American citizen is more safe from mass shootings and gun violence.
According to Nelson Lund, professor at the George Mason University of Law, people would not feel
safe seeing that they would find it more difficult to protect their homes and family without the security
of a firearm. The right to self defense and to the means of defending oneself is a basic natural right
that grows out of the right to life. In addition to that Wayne LaPierre, Vice President of the National
Rifle Association, has claimed that: The only thing that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New legislations would not help to reduce the number of shootings. The only people who would gun
down several people are the mentally ill and that concludes to the problem laying in the American
mental care system and its lack of good and thorough concern for people with psychological issues.
By changing the second amendment, Americans are generalized to gun obsessed people who cannot
own and be responsible with a firearm, when the truth could not be further

Corporate Branding And Consumer Opinion
Corporate branding and consumer opinion Corporations need to sell their product if they want to
survive in the business industry. Consumers are aware of what they desire, dislike, and for the most
part make their choices accordingly. For those that cannot decide as easily, there are many choices of
different brands of the same product sold by different companies. When a corporation puts their label
or name on the product, it is called branding (Klein 778). That is the way of consumerism and a way
to make a product more tantalizing, is to think of extraordinary marketing concepts. This essay will
discuss corporate brands and the effect on consumers, then, the paper will examine the concept of
Neuromarketing. Corporations are not forcing anyone to use their product, but they are trying to
capitalize and make themselves a household name. There is an expression, keeping up with the Jones
or nowadays the Kardashians, and what that means is, the assumption would be that someone is
attempting to obtain the same type of lifestyle or the same objects as someone else. Celebrities pay
substantial amounts of money for fashion and designer product and many of them participate in
campaign ads promoting different products. Celebrities make us think that if we purchase these items,
we could be like the rich and famous. Often corporations make you think that if you buy their
products, you can do and be better at life in general. For instance; the popular sports drink Gatorade

four parts, namely Project Analysis, Private Analysis, Efficiency Analysis and Referent Group

second feasible scenario. It is also suggest that option 2 should be rejected. And base on the sensitivity

Long Distance Moving Is Not Only Hard On The Body, And The...
Long distance moving is not only hard on the body, and the mind, but the soul. That cloudy Thursday,
I felt my soul beginning to crumble. I laid back in the passenger seat of our modest rust colored
Toyota, barely listening to music playing over my headphones, mostly wallowing in my gentle throbs
of weariness, and a stressful fear of prolonging the journey. I knew my mother felt the same way, from
the way she clutched at the steering wheel, and from the way her sunken eyes looked for the next turn.
It didn t help me, the fifteen year old city kid from Chicago, when we pulled off the Ohio Turnpike, to
a smaller highway, to an even smaller one, to then exit next to a rusted out truck stop, and onto a small
two lane road. Finally, my mom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No distant wail of a siren. There wasn t even wind that night. Just plain, unadulterated, silence. I was
alone with my thoughts. It was depressing. It was exciting. But most of all, it was frightening. It wasn
t like this small town was any sort of final destination, I told myself. I had invested a lot of hope into
the idea of a fresh start, but not all of it. I had that desperate teenage need to escape, and thought of
Ohio as a place to get away. I thought of it as a new life. A place to get away from the cramped
stairwells, up to cramped apartments. A place to get away from the display case of city life. A place to
get away from the clouds, those clouds that filled the sky. And so what? I told myself. So what if this
isn t the promised land? So what if you didn t know what you liked about that place until you lost it? It
s still different, and It s still not a final destination, right? The next morning I awoke to find two men
standing in the driveway. Their bloated stomachs hanging down over their belts. Torn, Beat, and
ragged baseball were caps cocked back upon their not so closely shaved heads. The older one of the
pair seemed to be letting himself in the front door, while the younger man examined the Toyota
suspiciously. Mom. I called into the kitchen, where my mother was vigorously stirring a pot of milk
on the stove for coffee, partly to relieve frustration, and partly to replicate the perfect fluff of big city
cappuccinos. What is

Analysis Of St. Joseph Hall
At Fontbonne University, the freshman dorm is called St. Joseph hall. For three different days and
times, I observed the commons area of St. Joseph hall, which is located on the first floor. When you
first walk into St. Joseph hall, you notice that there are two sides with a walkway down the middle. On
one side there are two flat screen TV s surrounded by sofas with a table in the middle. This area is
carpeted with a blue, green, and purple pattern. It is worn down and thin. On the other side of the Jo
commons, there are four computers and a printer. There are also sofas and chairs on this side. There is
florescent lighting throughout, but most of the time it is unneeded because the walls are giant
windows. There are lots of scuff marks on the white wall paint (a lot of fixing up needed in this area).
The back wall reads Welcome to Griffin Nation so as one walks in they can see it.
I noticed that security played a large role in the layout as well. Starting at ten P.M., the school security
guards walk through the commons and each floor of the dorm to make sure that people are safe and
making good choices. As I sat in the commons at three in the morning taking notes on my laptop, one
guard pointed out my studiousness and asked if I would be pulling an all nighter. It was a nice gesture,
but I wanted to stay focused on my notes. Another thing I noticed when entering the St. Jo building
(even if just entering the commons) is that you need a personal key card to get in. You

Essay on Just War Doctrine And The Gulf Conflict
Just War Doctrine and the Gulf Conflict
In evaluating US involvement in the Iraq conflict in terms of the Just
War Doctrine jus ad bellum and jus in bello it is my opinion that the US adhered to the Doctrine in its
entirety. The US acted justly both in its entering into the Gulf conflict (jus ad bellum) and in its
conduct while in the conflict (jus in bello). To support this opinion I will individually address the co
parts that constitute the Just War Doctrine and show how US participation in the Iraq war abstained
from violating the tenets of either co part.
Jus Ad Bellum
Jus Ad Bellum, the justness of entering into conflict consists of six primary tenets: legitimate
authority, just cause, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only after all non conflictory options have been exhausted should war be committed to.
As to the question of whether or not the US adhered to the tenet of jus ad bellum the reply is a
resounding yes. The US, under legitimate authority undertook the just cause of alleviating the plight of
a coalition partner.
Saddam Husseins invasion of Kuwait was unjust, or at least in violation of the
Just War Doctrine, and the US sought to reconcile matters. The goal, the removal of Iraqi forces from
Kuwait, was a just one and was pursued proportionally. For nearly six months the US and other
UN/coalition partners made every diplomatic effort to resolve the conflict peacefully. Secretary
General of UN Security Council Junio Perez de Cuellar made several attempts to hash out a peaceful
plan with Saddam Hussein directly and during this time the
US abstained from any military action. In conjunction with efforts of Perez de
Cuellar, US Secretary of State James Baker spent countless hours negotiating directly with the Iraqi
Foreign Minister in an attempt to bring about a non violent end to the crisis. When all efforts failed to
bring an end to the conflict by peaceful means the UN Security Council drafted Resolution 678 which
authorized quot;all means necessary quot; to dislodge Iraqi forces from Kuwait. In one last effort US
President George Bush sent a direct communiqué to Saddam Hussein

Accounting System And The Roman Empire
Another Society with their own intricate accounting system was the Roman Empire. This comes as no
surprise because of the scope and size of the Roman Empire; accounting was once again a necessity to
a well maintained society. There is evidence of comprehensive financial statements in the rule of
Emperor Augustus circa 63 BC 14 AD. These statements included information on expenses on
statistics concerning the provinces and dependent kingdoms; direct and indirect taxation; as well as
recurrent expenditures and gifts , as well as, the amounts of cash in the Aerarium...and in the hands of
the publicani (Oldroyd, The Role... , 1995). The Aerarium was the treasury, and the publicani was the
public. These are similar to what the Chinese had because they were used by the government to go
about completing the financing and running of the empire. These figures could be used to make it
easier to track all the expenses and revenues of the government. The government was not the only
ones to keep accounting records in the Roman Empire either. Account books were kept by those look
to maintain and achieve citizenship. It is believed that men of property at Rome often did write up
their permanent account books about every month. They were required to do this to maintain their
citizenship because citizenship was tied to the amount of property owned and this meant a need to
keep records of it. (Oldroyd, The Role... , 1995). As well as citizens, accounting was a necessity for

Real Time Pcr Detection Of Hiv Viral Load
Real time PCR detection of HIV viral load
Introduction:
HIV, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a lentivirus which is responsible for HIV infection and
eventually causes AIDS.
It s assumed that the virus has been in existence since 1930 but it s still unclear that how the virus
came into existence. There are two kinds of HIV virus, HIV 1 which causes more severe disease and
the source of transmission is a chimpanzee species Pan troglodytes whereas HIV 2 is transmitted by
Cercocebus atys, a monkey found in West Africa (Norris, 2011).
HIV binds to the CD4+ T cells because it needs CD4+ receptor to penetrate into cells. The virus
transcribes its RNA into cDNA and then integrates its DNA into the host DNA and replicates further.
It uses the DNA of CD4+ T lymphocytes and eventually ends up destroying them (Roberts, 2008).
Once it weakens the immune system, the body becomes vulnerable to various diseases and is exposed
to life threatening diseases known as opportunistic infections. A population of over 35 million people
have HIV/AIDS and Sub Saharan Africa constitutes half of the population (AMERICAN CANCER
SOCIETY, 2014). Figure 1. A statistical map showing the number of people infected with HIV/AIDS
(Who.int, 2013).
The HIV Infection progresses through a number of stages. As shown in Figure 2. The acute infection
stage is associated with a rapid increase of the viral copies up to several millions per ml with a slow
decline in the CD4+ T cells. During the first few weeks

Cyber Security And Risk Analysis
As a student pursuing a major in Security and Risk Analysis, also known as Cyber Security, it has
been repeatedly drilled into my head how much potential the Internet has to change the ways in which
people experience the external world in which we live, for better or for worse. The Internet, consisting
of a gargantuan amount of data, is composed of more than 150 million websites, such as Facebook,
LinkedIn, blogs, or other virtual worlds such as Second Life. Such websites, made possible by the
Internet, act as a medium between two worlds: 1) an external world experienced by embodied
conscious beings and 2) a virtual world experienced by disembodied, yet still conscious, beings. The
ways in which individuals experience various phenomena pertaining to such a contrasting dichotomy
between external and virtual worlds, characterized by disembodiment, can be difficult to comprehend
given that humans tend to rely so heavily on immediate sense data provided by their physical bodies.
Fortunately, phenomenology (as Shaun Gallagher and Dan Zahavi have presented it) can help us to
understand such experiential differences. Phenomenologist Hubert Dreyfus begins to analyze these
differences in experienced phenomena between embodiment and disembodiment and its social
implications through his work On the Internet. Dreyfus claim that disembodied telepresence,
characterized by disembodiment through technological mediums, as detrimental to society may
initially be perceived as plausible due to

Pepsico And The Non Alcoholic Beverage Industry
PepsiCo is a world leader in convenient food and beverages that manufacture, market, distribute and
sell wide variety of beverages, foods and snacks, serving consumers in almost every part of the world.
PepsiCo operates under six reportable segments: Frito Lay North America (FLNA), Quaker Foods
North America (QFNA), Latin America Foods (LAF), PepsiCo Americas Beverages (PAB), PepsiCo
Europe (Europe) and PepsiCo Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA). All of the mentioned segments
are registered under one symbol PEP whose shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange,
Chicago Stock Exchange and SIX Swiss Exchange. Since 49% of PepsiCo s operations are outside of
the U.S. that generates significant portion of the company s net revenue, PepsiCo selected the
currency of its foreign subsidiaries in which they generally operates as its functional currency, which
is translated into US dollars on the company s financial statements. I have found that two major
players, PepsiCo and Coca Cola dominate the non alcoholic beverage industry around the world.
There is tremendous competition within a relatively slowing industry and PepsiCo currently controls
nearly 21% of the industry with its Frito Lay segment alone controls 60% of the U.S snack food
market. PepsiCo s consolidated financial statements are in conformity with U.S. GAAP, however if
company was to converge with the IFRS, there will be positive and negative consequences on the

Alice G. Martin s Game Of Thrones
For nearly six seasons now, Americans have sat, captivated, in front of their television screens on
Sunday evenings, while men fought to the death for a throne, for honor, women, family and
vengeance. They have watched a timid young girl become a queen. The illegitimate son of a Northern
noble house has risen through the ranks, only to be assassinated, and brought back from the other side.
Viewers have watched their favorite characters be executed, persecuted, prosecuted, raped,
assassinated, maimed, humiliated and murdered. They have yelled at their television screens, cried for
the beloved characters that have been lost, and cussed and swore they would never watch it again. Yet,
next Sunday rolls around, and there they are, planted on the couch, nervous with anticipation over who
we may lose, or who may be victorious this week.
This show that has caused viewers such anguish and intrigue is Game of Thrones, the hit HBO series

Alice G. Walton of Forbes Magazine has some ideas about what it is that keeps viewers coming back.
Walton claims that there are the obvious hooks of swordfights, sex, nakedness and overall intrigue.
These elements combine with the fantasy aspects, such as Daenerys s dragons and Melisandre s blood
magic, to create a type of make believe escapism for viewers. This obviously is not the same type of
make believe escapism that children experience with Disney, however. Game of Thrones runs deeper
and offers more to viewers than just this escapism. It forces them to become intimately acquainted
with the characters by teaching their histories, their struggles, failures, accomplishments, and their
motivations and then it twists and shows viewers that they really have no idea what is going on. It is
this manipulation that is one of the major aspects that makes this show

Alienation And Isolation In Frankenstein
An Analysis of the Theme of Alienation and Isolation in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
This literary analysis will analyze a close reading of the theme of alienation and isolation of the
Monster in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The passage chosen from Shelley s novel will define the
self education of the monster through the symbolism of Lucifer in John Milton s epic poem Paradise
Lost: But Paradise Lost excited different and far deeper emotions...but I am solitary and detested
(Shelley para.7). The relationship between the Monster (as Lucifer) and God (as Victor Frankenstein)

The chosen passage defines the importance of Paradise Lost by John Milton as a form of literary
symbolism to define the Monster s self education as a basis for his revenge against Victor. The
relationship between God and Adam defines how the Monster comes tor realize that he has been
created by a supernatural being, much like he was created by Victor. However, he also comes to know
that God has abandoned him. The Monster knows that he has not been given the love and resources
given to Adam, which forces him to realize that he is more like the fallen angel Lucifer. In response to
this realization, the Monster decides to kill Victor s wife, just as Lucifer destroyed eve by tempting her
to eat the forbidden apple from the Tree of Knowledge. These are important aspects of literary
symbolism that the Monster learns that create a motivation for vengeance against his creator. This

Obama Veto Research Paper
Did you know that Obama has had to use the veto stamp fewer times than any other president since
Garfield? (Ingraham) This statement might seem unrealistic, but many presidents have chosen not to
use the veto stamp and if so only a few times! A veto is when the president rejects a bill from
becoming a law. There are many steps leading up to the presidential veto it first starts out with the
legislative branch who decides if the bill is good enough to be sent to the president. The president is a
part of the executive branch and decides if the bill should be vetoed or not. Presidential veto relates to
checks and balances in many ways, but the main way is that when the president vetoes it, the
Legislative branch has the chance to make the bill a law! This is rare though because they have to give

This is because the president (executive) is checking over the bills that the congress (legislative) gave
for him to pass it as a law or not. If the president decides to veto the bill, it is sent to the legislative
branch again to have the chance to make the vetoed bill a law. Since the congress still has the chance
to make the bill a law, it limits the power for the president, this being an example of checks and
balances. This process has been used since George Washington became president in 1789! Every
single president has had the chance to use the veto, but yet, 7 presidents decided not veto any bills.
Many presidents have used the veto power, though with Franklin D. Roosevelt has the most with 335
vetoes!(Tau) This process is important because if the legislative branch made the all the decisions it
would take forever and we wouldn t have as many laws. We wouldn t have as many laws because the
congress would need ⅔ of the vote to make it a law and that is not that likely, so with the president
choosing it makes it more

Analysis Of President Abbas s Adherence To The Power Of Power
The essence of this dissertation relies in arguing that one of the main factors of the PA s adherence to
security coordination despite its deviation from bilateral agreements in other regards is Abbas s
devotion to the power; capacities and benefits, which security coordination provides him with. Using
security coordination, Abbas established a monopoly over the use of force to cement his leadership
after he took over the reins from the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat (Amrov and Tartir, 2014).
Moreover, as previously mentioned, Abbas s policy of crackdown on Islamists and leftist in the West

forces are engaged in surveillance, monitoring activities, and intervening in people s privacy under the

Jerusalem Media and Communications Center shows that after 20 years of signing the Oslo Accords

However, the 2014 poll conducted by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies shows that

Overview of the Australian Film Industry
Australian Film Industry 1
Era before World War I Australian film industry had good and bad times or boom and bust (Stratton,
1990) in period of last 100 years and that is why it can be called a fragile industry. If we look at the
history, era before 1914, we find out that Australia was counted as one of the biggest film making
countries of the world. This Australian film industry took the honor of being first to produce world s
first feature film in 1906, The Story of the Kelly Gang. The local movie production was on its peak in
year, 1911 in which fifty one movies were released (Pike and Cooper, 1998). Although this number
does not seem very impressive today but in those times, Australia was counted as the fastest film
producing country. In only two years, between 1910 to 1912, more than 90 narrative films were
produced and between 1906 to 1928, this number reached to 150 (Moran and Vieth, 2005) .This high
production is never seen after that period. That s why this period before World War I was an ideal
period for film industry, which never came back. Australian films were not only seen in Australia but
all around the world through travelling exhibitions. Several films produced in Australia were
internationally recognized and the actors and film makers starting their career in Australian film
industry gained international reputations. A large number from these also received great financial

N. P. U. s Neighborhood Planning Units
Neighborhood Planning Units were first established in 1974 as a way for citizens in the community to
be engage in planning around their city but to also voice their ideas and concerns. There are currently
twenty five different N.P.U. s that spilt up Atlanta based off neighborhoods. Some argue that N.P.U. s
serve no purpose and should be perish, while others contend N.P.U. s are the foundation for
communities. Either way, an N.P.U. is only as successful as how well it is run. Last week the author
had the chance to attend N.P.U.: E meeting and view how the meeting was conducted and went.
Neighborhood Planning Unit: E contains elven different neighborhoods that range from Atlantic
Station to Brookwood Hills. With that being said this N.P.U. is very, very huge and has a lot to cover.
The meeting started with an introduction and hot topics in neighborhoods with a time limit of a
minute. Following that was the Atlanta Planning and Advisory Board report, along with the planner s
report. The next half of the meeting hold the most important parts of the meeting. Succeeding was the
introduction of the public officials, which included five different departments. This part was tedious

time limit on the meeting as it ran very long. This could be why many people left early after
presenting. The author did enjoy the meeting, however would not attend this particular N.P.U. again. It
did encourage the author to attend her own N.P.U. and become involved. N.P.U.: E is a great

Macbeth Witches Control
The Elizabethan chain of being is based on the idea of hierarchy and divine order. A part of this divine
order is the king who is said to be God s representative on earth; they bear the responsibility of
carrying out God s wishes on earth. However, in the case of Macbeth, instead of god, it would be the
witches. The witches are the patriarch to all of the character s in the play and the catalyst to all of the
crimes Macbeth commits. The witches portray this through their supernatural abilities, their prophecy
s control over the world, and their influence over Macbeth.
To start with, the witches use their powers to perform many supernatural tasks. The ability to control
the winds, to change states of matter, and the ability of foresight. Their control of the winds ... Show

the prophecy of him becoming king (I.III.50) creates a platform for confusion and doubt which causes
Macbeth to murder Duncan. The prophecy which the witches promised Banquo a lineage of kings,
heavily influences Macbeth into hiring murderer s to kill Banquo and his son Fleance. Macbeth
becomes fearful and insecure about his fate, causing him to become reckless and inhumane at the end,
due to the fear of losing his throne. The prophecy in which it mentions (Thou shalt get kings, though
thou be none (I.III.67). The thought of Banquo s lineage being of kingship caused Macbeth to act in an
inhumane manner in the fear that this may one day be true. In summary, Macbeth s downfall can be
directly traced back to the witches as their apparition and prophecies caused Macbeth to become
overconfident and develop a sense of greed. In act 5 scene 8, Macbeth acknowledges the influence the
witches had on him through their half truths. This proves the witches to being the catalyst to Macbeth

The Neuropathology of Alzheimer s Disease In 1907, reports became available on the autopsy
completed by neuroanatomist and neurologist Alois Alzheimer (Swerdlow, 2007). His patient, Auguste

overall cell loss with a significant reduction in the size of gyri accompanied with increased sulci size
as well as a multitude of plaques and tangles once analyzed at a microscopic level. Since this was the

When you think about France, what do you usually envision? Do you think of the center of fashion

you think about a government formed with the Constitution that was in many ways is a framework for
that of the United States of America, or a formidable military and an affluent economy. You would be
correct if you had said any of the above. However, did you know that 1940 s France was a powder keg

In the event that we as a collective society choose that majority rules system does not merit
surrendering, that power is most secure in our grasp as opposed to in the individuals who have the

we have to completely understand that at whatever point any gathering of individuals has a lopsided
impact over government arrangement, majority rules system has endured a serious blow, period. There
are no exemptions. On the off chance that feedback of government or corporate action in the US, is
naturally labeled unpatriotic or un American, then the America that is being protected is strongly not a

how the individuals are controlled into getting along the offering of their pioneers and the

Media possession is vital to the control of society. Control the individuals, and you control their vote.

Charlie Gordon In Flowers For Algernon
Ernest Hemingway once said, Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know. For Charlie
Gordon, Hemingway s words hold more truth than anything he had been told throughout the course of
his story. Charlie Gordon, the main character of Daniel Keyes Flowers for Algernon, was a thirty two
year old man born with an unusually low level of intelligence. When Charlie was approached by a pair
of scientists with the proposition of undergoing a revolutionary surgery to increase his intelligence, he
readily agreed, thinking that the smarter he was, the more liked he would be. This did not, however,
seem to be the case. Charlie Gordon was happier when his I.Q. returned to sixty eight after the

of sixty eight, after the operation. Throughout the novel Flowers for Algernon, Charlie underwent a
serious transformation from an optimistic but dimwitted thirty two year old man with hope for the
future, to a cynical genius whose world was slowly beginning to fall apart, and then back to a happier
version of his original self. However, it is indisputable that Charlie was the happiest after the
operation, when his I.Q. had sunk back down to a measly sixty eight. His relationships thrived in light
of his recent life events, he was protected by the innocence and childlike naïveté of his mental state,
and his learning ethic returned to a need to know basis. Intelligence has always been something of
incredible value, so much so that mentally retarded Charlie Gordon was approached by scientists with
the proposition of artificially increasing his intelligence. However, Daniel Keyes Flowers for Algernon
is the story of the life of Charlie Gordon, and if Charlie s tale is capable of teaching the readers
anything, it is that sometimes one s intellect comes at the sacrifice of his or her livelihood. Perhaps
Ernest Hemingway was correct: happiness and intelligence do not go

Pablo Picasso Guernica Essay
Guernica is another perfect example of Picasso exhibiting history in his work. The mural sized oil
painting on canvas was painted by Pablo Picasso in 1937. It is painted in a palette of grey, black and
white and is regarded by many as modern art s most powerful antiwar statement . The mural exhibits
suffering people and animals wrenched by violence and chaos. A gored horse, a bull and flames are
prominent features of the artwork. Guernica displays the tragedies of war and the suffering it imposes
on individuals, specifically innocent civilians. The lack of colour intensifies the chaos and the tragedy.
Guernica is a town in the province of Biscay in Basque Country. On Monday 26th April 1937,
warplanes of the German Condor Legion bombed Guernica for two hours. At the time. Picasso was
working on a mural for the Paris Exhibition that was to be held in the summer of 1937. On May 1st,

Key figures such as the bull, the agonized horse and a woman with outstretched arms were perfected
in sketch after sketch before being transferred onto the canvas. A painting is not thought out and
settled in advance, Picasso said. While it is being done, it changes as one s thoughts change. And
when it is finished, it goes on changing, according to the state of mind of whoever is looking at it. The
bull and the horse are both important characters in Spanish culture. The rampaging bull is thought to
represent the onslaught of Fascism. Picasso said the bull meant brutality and darkness while the horse
represented the people of Guernica. The painting was at first overwhelmingly criticised as Cubism
was still a fairly new concept at this time. Picasso continued producing work and was eventually a
world renowned artist. The most influential artist of the twentieth century died in 1973 at the age of

Writing In The Age Of Distraction Cory Doctorow Summary
The article Writing in the Age of Distraction by Cory Doctorow is an article talking about how the
Internet is often misconceived as a place where procrastination comes alive. In said article, Doctorow
makes a detailed list on how he manages to avoid procrastination and get work done, while still using
the Internet. The first step he lists is setting a goal for yourself and sticking with it. Choose a number
of words or number of pages you want to type for that day and aim for it. Do not stop before you reach
that goal. Similarly, Doctorow says, once you do reach that goal, stop for the day. Stop in the middle
of your sentence even, so that the next time you sit down to work, you know where to start from. In
his exact words, Doctorow states:
When you hit your daily word goal, stop. Stop even if you re in the middle of a sentence. Especially if
you re in the middle of a sentence. That way, when you sit down at the keyboard the next day, your
first five or ten words are already ordained, so that you get a little push before you begin your work.
(Doctorow) He then says that when you are actually sitting down to work, you need to stop
researching. One of the easiest ways to get sidetracked while working is by getting distracted by
information that isn t important for your assignment, but seem relevant at the time. Set aside specific
time for research so you don t end up procrastinating when you should be working. Another tip
Doctorow gives is to remember not to get distracted using your word processor. Doing things like
playing with the font or debating over which color your words should be in will only kill valuable
time. Turning off your cell phone and ignoring social media notifications is also a great way of
making sure you don t end up wasting your own time.
I choose to write about Doctorow s article because I often find myself getting distracted both before
and during the process of writing a paper. Much like Doctorow, I d been instructed by several high
school teachers to stay away from the Internet while writing so I didn t divert my attention away from
the assignment I was supposed to be working on. During the first three years of high school, I
followed this advice almost religiously, and even went so far

Something s Got Ta Give By Diane Keaton
In society age is a key aspect in the way people view others and how they communicate, a person s
age sets a tone for the language they use in communication with different groups be it their peers,
elders, or the young. Three aspects of age in society are communication, ability, and socially
constructed stigmas. Many of such aspects are portrayed in the movie Something s Gotta Give , where
a swinger on the cusp of being a senior citizen with a taste for young women falls in love with an
accomplished woman closer to his age. Harry, the soon to be senior citizen is played by Jack Nicholas
and Erica, played by Diane Keaton is an accomplished writer and the mother of Harry s young
companion. The movie makes you stop and think; what does age mean in the dating world today. In
the world of dating many people ask, does age matter? The answer is yes and no; as many different
components come into play. In the movie Somethings Gotta Give , Harry dates a younger woman and
when he meets her mom she doesn t seem to mind that her boyfriend is much older than her. An older
male and younger woman is accepted in society, whereas an older woman dating a younger man
becomes labeled as a cougar . A man who dates a younger woman receives no such title, this is
socially constructed by the white male dominant group, as to say it is ok for a man to do it, but when a
woman does it, she s a cougar . A man dating a young woman has been around for centuries and
coming from a dominant group the

powerful monuments of the 1960 s pop art. Throughout the 60 s Lichtenstein drew on commercial art

Roy Lichtenstein used bright and vibrant colors such as the yellow and red with black outlines in a
cartoon like style. Thick black outlines were very popular within pop art. Lichtenstein used acrylic and
oil paint on both canvases when creating Whaam!. The background, however, is changed to a blue
gray that compliments the remaining colors. The two panels are spatially and temporally linked. The
left panel shows the attacking plane and in the right panel, you see the exploding plane, which is
outlined by flames, accompanied by the bold word WHAAM! even though both canvases are separate
you can still see the left panel containing the missile launch and on the other side you see the
explosion, indicating two distinct events. Lichtenstein made the exploding plane more prominent
compared to the attacking plane, emphasizing the flames. The plane on the left is dramatically angled
making aggressive lines intensify the sense of motion and make the painting more captivating.
Whaam! is a subtle yet high level painting. I really liked this artwork because of Lichtensteins use of
color and comic like style. Roy Lichtenstein used a lot of realism within his paintings, everyday
imagery, and a heavy amount of irony. With the United States heading to war, pop artist liked to use
current events and shed light on them by using everyday consumer products and packaging. I would

The comparison between John Milton s Paradise Lost and...
Of Things Invisible to Mortal SightThe Holy Bible is in many ways a story of origins. The history
recounted both in the Old and New Testaments has at its base the perception of a fallen humanity;
beginning with the fall from Eden and the nature of evil, to the means of regaining Gods grace and the
discussion of free will, it emphasizes humanitys inability to fully comprehend the nature of God and
of the universe. In writing his epic Paradise Lost, John Milton is fully aware of his limitations as a
mortal man; however, in an attempt to transcend the finite to the infinite, to describe the indescribable
and to understand the unknown, Milton bases his arguments on Biblical theology to show that
mankind has fallen from immortality to mortality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though this event is mentioned often within the Holy Bible Milton expounds upon it and
dedicates the first two books of Paradise Lost entirely to a description of hell and Satans plan to tempt
humanity. It can be assumed that Milton basses his arguments on one of the more detailed descriptions
of Satan that can be found in the book of Isaiah, chapter 14:12. How art thou fallen from heaven, O
Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of
God 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds: I will be like the most High.
Milton draws his inspiration from these verses in describing Satans pride and his attempt to wage war
in heaven. However, in his attempt to make Paradise Lost both a conversation and a narration, Milton
decides to describe Satans descend from heaven in closer detail, even with the risk of committing
sacrilege.
The first difference between Miltons epic and the Holy Bible is seen as Milton begins the narration in
hell; just moments before, Satan and his following angels are thrown out from heaven because of
disobedience. Miltons main purpose is to juxtapose the fallen natures of the demons with that of
humanity and to show the inferior natures of people to that of angels.

Analysis Of The Article Puzzlements Of A High School...
Society undoubtedly has a convincing and prevailing public literacy, as well as, numerous accepted
symbols and ideas that legitimize the meaning of being an American. As the author of Puzzlements of
a High School Watcher , Theodore R. Sizer explains how American media is the leading edge of
shared experience, which is pronounced in the generally shared language and symbols and how it is
our reality. Sizer focuses on the fact that as a nation, America has a persuasive and powerful public
literacy. He claims that it is the outcome of shows aired on television and very uniform education
processes. In his article, Sizer first sets the stage by describing the similarities among American high
schools. He articulates that the similarities in the system are so solid that a student moving schools,
even across the nation, would be in the same academic situation as they left and would only lose few
steps. Sizer continues by claiming that at least four properties can characterize American public
literacy: it is centrally driven, usually for merchandising purposes; it is commercial; it simplifies,
synthesizes, unifies, and focuses; and lastly, literacy is sophisticated. By starting his article with his
observations of American public literacy, Sizer introduces and backs the issue. Sizer does not offer
suggestions for change. Instead, he begins to ask carefully chosen questions which provoke his
audience to ponder their own answers. Aside from his own credibility of being

What can Sports Teach Us about Business Strategy? In recent times, no sports team has lived up to the

turn around the fortunes of any enterprise. For Example, Founded in 1911, the rapidly growing

Monsanto, had been developing the anti inflammatory drug known as Celecoxib , which had been

(U.S). Less than seven years later Pfizer would agree to purchase rival Wyeth for approximately
$68bn (U.S). Today, Pfizer Inc. is worth as much as twice its value at $172bn (U.S). Taking another

  • 2. Mass Shooting Debate In the last ten months, since the start of the year 2015, proximally 300 mass shootings have taken place in the United States. This number is about 100 times the amount of mass shootings in Australia since their gun restricting bill was passed in 1996. This raises the discussion whether or not changing the American gun laws would help bring down the total of injuries and fatalities. In 1791, the second amendment was added to the American constitution, stating that every US citizen had the right to bear and own a gun. This is still the case in modern day America. In fact an 18 year old cannot buy any alcohol, but does have the possibility to walk in a store and buy a gun, often without any license or experience. It is likely that when this amendment is abolished the average American citizen is more safe from mass shootings and gun violence. According to Nelson Lund, professor at the George Mason University of Law, people would not feel safe seeing that they would find it more difficult to protect their homes and family without the security of a firearm. The right to self defense and to the means of defending oneself is a basic natural right that grows out of the right to life. In addition to that Wayne LaPierre, Vice President of the National Rifle Association, has claimed that: The only thing that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New legislations would not help to reduce the number of shootings. The only people who would gun down several people are the mentally ill and that concludes to the problem laying in the American mental care system and its lack of good and thorough concern for people with psychological issues. By changing the second amendment, Americans are generalized to gun obsessed people who cannot own and be responsible with a firearm, when the truth could not be further ... • 4. Corporate Branding And Consumer Opinion Corporate branding and consumer opinion Corporations need to sell their product if they want to survive in the business industry. Consumers are aware of what they desire, dislike, and for the most part make their choices accordingly. For those that cannot decide as easily, there are many choices of different brands of the same product sold by different companies. When a corporation puts their label or name on the product, it is called branding (Klein 778). That is the way of consumerism and a way to make a product more tantalizing, is to think of extraordinary marketing concepts. This essay will discuss corporate brands and the effect on consumers, then, the paper will examine the concept of Neuromarketing. Corporations are not forcing anyone to use their product, but they are trying to capitalize and make themselves a household name. There is an expression, keeping up with the Jones or nowadays the Kardashians, and what that means is, the assumption would be that someone is attempting to obtain the same type of lifestyle or the same objects as someone else. Celebrities pay substantial amounts of money for fashion and designer product and many of them participate in campaign ads promoting different products. Celebrities make us think that if we purchase these items, we could be like the rich and famous. Often corporations make you think that if you buy their products, you can do and be better at life in general. For instance; the popular sports drink Gatorade has a ... • 6. Long Distance Moving Is Not Only Hard On The Body, And The... Long distance moving is not only hard on the body, and the mind, but the soul. That cloudy Thursday, I felt my soul beginning to crumble. I laid back in the passenger seat of our modest rust colored Toyota, barely listening to music playing over my headphones, mostly wallowing in my gentle throbs of weariness, and a stressful fear of prolonging the journey. I knew my mother felt the same way, from the way she clutched at the steering wheel, and from the way her sunken eyes looked for the next turn. It didn t help me, the fifteen year old city kid from Chicago, when we pulled off the Ohio Turnpike, to a smaller highway, to an even smaller one, to then exit next to a rusted out truck stop, and onto a small two lane road. Finally, my mom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No distant wail of a siren. There wasn t even wind that night. Just plain, unadulterated, silence. I was alone with my thoughts. It was depressing. It was exciting. But most of all, it was frightening. It wasn t like this small town was any sort of final destination, I told myself. I had invested a lot of hope into the idea of a fresh start, but not all of it. I had that desperate teenage need to escape, and thought of Ohio as a place to get away. I thought of it as a new life. A place to get away from the cramped stairwells, up to cramped apartments. A place to get away from the display case of city life. A place to get away from the clouds, those clouds that filled the sky. And so what? I told myself. So what if this isn t the promised land? So what if you didn t know what you liked about that place until you lost it? It s still different, and It s still not a final destination, right? The next morning I awoke to find two men standing in the driveway. Their bloated stomachs hanging down over their belts. Torn, Beat, and ragged baseball were caps cocked back upon their not so closely shaved heads. The older one of the pair seemed to be letting himself in the front door, while the younger man examined the Toyota suspiciously. Mom. I called into the kitchen, where my mother was vigorously stirring a pot of milk on the stove for coffee, partly to relieve frustration, and partly to replicate the perfect fluff of big city cappuccinos. • 7. Analysis Of St. Joseph Hall At Fontbonne University, the freshman dorm is called St. Joseph hall. For three different days and times, I observed the commons area of St. Joseph hall, which is located on the first floor. When you first walk into St. Joseph hall, you notice that there are two sides with a walkway down the middle. On one side there are two flat screen TV s surrounded by sofas with a table in the middle. This area is carpeted with a blue, green, and purple pattern. It is worn down and thin. On the other side of the Jo commons, there are four computers and a printer. There are also sofas and chairs on this side. There is florescent lighting throughout, but most of the time it is unneeded because the walls are giant windows. There are lots of scuff marks on the white wall paint (a lot of fixing up needed in this area). The back wall reads Welcome to Griffin Nation so as one walks in they can see it. I noticed that security played a large role in the layout as well. Starting at ten P.M., the school security guards walk through the commons and each floor of the dorm to make sure that people are safe and making good choices. As I sat in the commons at three in the morning taking notes on my laptop, one guard pointed out my studiousness and asked if I would be pulling an all nighter. It was a nice gesture, but I wanted to stay focused on my notes. Essay on Just War Doctrine And The Gulf Conflict Just War Doctrine and the Gulf Conflict In evaluating US involvement in the Iraq conflict in terms of the Just War Doctrine jus ad bellum and jus in bello it is my opinion that the US adhered to the Doctrine in its entirety. The US acted justly both in its entering into the Gulf conflict (jus ad bellum) and in its conduct while in the conflict (jus in bello). To support this opinion I will individually address the co parts that constitute the Just War Doctrine and show how US participation in the Iraq war abstained from violating the tenets of either co part. Only after all non conflictory options have been exhausted should war be committed to. As to the question of whether or not the US adhered to the tenet of jus ad bellum the reply is a resounding yes. The US, under legitimate authority undertook the just cause of alleviating the plight of a coalition partner. Saddam Husseins invasion of Kuwait was unjust, or at least in violation of the Just War Doctrine, and the US sought to reconcile matters. The goal, the removal of Iraqi forces from Kuwait, was a just one and was pursued proportionally. For nearly six months the US and other UN/coalition partners made every diplomatic effort to resolve the conflict peacefully. Secretary General of UN Security Council Junio Perez de Cuellar made several attempts to hash out a peaceful plan with Saddam Hussein directly and during this time the US abstained from any military action. In conjunction with efforts of Perez de Cuellar, US Secretary of State James Baker spent countless hours negotiating directly with the Iraqi Foreign Minister in an attempt to bring about a non violent end to the crisis. When all efforts failed to bring an end to the conflict by peaceful means the UN Security Council drafted Resolution 678 which authorized quot;all means necessary quot; to dislodge Iraqi forces from Kuwait. • 10. Accounting System And The Roman Empire Another Society with their own intricate accounting system was the Roman Empire. This comes as no surprise because of the scope and size of the Roman Empire; accounting was once again a necessity to a well maintained society. There is evidence of comprehensive financial statements in the rule of Emperor Augustus circa 63 BC 14 AD. These statements included information on expenses on statistics concerning the provinces and dependent kingdoms; direct and indirect taxation; as well as recurrent expenditures and gifts , as well as, the amounts of cash in the Aerarium...and in the hands of the publicani (Oldroyd, The Role... , 1995). The Aerarium was the treasury, and the publicani was the public. These are similar to what the Chinese had because they were used by the government to go about completing the financing and running of the empire. These figures could be used to make it easier to track all the expenses and revenues of the government. The government was not the only ones to keep accounting records in the Roman Empire either. Account books were kept by those look to maintain and achieve citizenship. It is believed that men of property at Rome often did write up their permanent account books about every month. They were required to do this to maintain their citizenship because citizenship was tied to the amount of property owned and this meant a need to keep records of it. (Oldroyd, The Role... , 1995). Real Time Pcr Detection Of Hiv Viral Load Real time PCR detection of HIV viral load Introduction: HIV, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a lentivirus which is responsible for HIV infection and eventually causes AIDS. It s assumed that the virus has been in existence since 1930 but it s still unclear that how the virus came into existence. There are two kinds of HIV virus, HIV 1 which causes more severe disease and the source of transmission is a chimpanzee species Pan troglodytes whereas HIV 2 is transmitted by Cercocebus atys, a monkey found in West Africa (Norris, 2011). HIV binds to the CD4+ T cells because it needs CD4+ receptor to penetrate into cells. The virus transcribes its RNA into cDNA and then integrates its DNA into the host DNA and replicates further. It uses the DNA of CD4+ T lymphocytes and eventually ends up destroying them (Roberts, 2008). Once it weakens the immune system, the body becomes vulnerable to various diseases and is exposed to life threatening diseases known as opportunistic infections. A population of over 35 million people have HIV/AIDS and Sub Saharan Africa constitutes half of the population (AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY, 2014). Figure 1. Cyber Security And Risk Analysis As a student pursuing a major in Security and Risk Analysis, also known as Cyber Security, it has been repeatedly drilled into my head how much potential the Internet has to change the ways in which people experience the external world in which we live, for better or for worse. The Internet, consisting of a gargantuan amount of data, is composed of more than 150 million websites, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs, or other virtual worlds such as Second Life. Such websites, made possible by the Internet, act as a medium between two worlds: 1) an external world experienced by embodied conscious beings and 2) a virtual world experienced by disembodied, yet still conscious, beings. The ways in which individuals experience various phenomena pertaining to such a contrasting dichotomy between external and virtual worlds, characterized by disembodiment, can be difficult to comprehend given that humans tend to rely so heavily on immediate sense data provided by their physical bodies. Fortunately, phenomenology (as Shaun Gallagher and Dan Zahavi have presented it) can help us to understand such experiential differences. Phenomenologist Hubert Dreyfus begins to analyze these differences in experienced phenomena between embodiment and disembodiment and its social implications through his work On the Internet. Dreyfus claim that disembodied telepresence, characterized by disembodiment through technological mediums, as detrimental to society may initially be perceived as plausible due to ... The president is a part of the executive branch and decides if the bill should be vetoed or not. • 30. Charlie Gordon In Flowers For Algernon Ernest Hemingway once said, Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know. For Charlie Gordon, Hemingway s words hold more truth than anything he had been told throughout the course of his story. Charlie Gordon, the main character of Daniel Keyes Flowers for Algernon, was a thirty two year old man born with an unusually low level of intelligence. When Charlie was approached by a pair of scientists with the proposition of undergoing a revolutionary surgery to increase his intelligence, he readily agreed, thinking that the smarter he was, the more liked he would be. This did not, however, seem to be the case. Charlie Gordon was happier when his I.Q. returned to sixty eight after the operation than he was with an I.Q. of one hundred ... Throughout the novel Flowers for Algernon, Charlie underwent a serious transformation from an optimistic but dimwitted thirty two year old man with hope for the future, to a cynical genius whose world was slowly beginning to fall apart, and then back to a happier version of his original self. However, it is indisputable that Charlie was the happiest after the operation, when his I.Q. had sunk back down to a measly sixty eight. His relationships thrived in light of his recent life events, he was protected by the innocence and childlike naĂŻvetĂ© of his mental state, and his learning ethic returned to a need to know basis. Intelligence has always been something of incredible value, so much so that mentally retarded Charlie Gordon was approached by scientists with the proposition of artificially increasing his intelligence. However, Daniel Keyes Flowers for Algernon is the story of the life of Charlie Gordon, and if Charlie s tale is capable of teaching the readers anything, it is that sometimes one s intellect comes at the sacrifice of his or her livelihood. Perhaps Ernest Hemingway was correct: happiness and intelligence do not go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The law went further to highlight the essence of existence of each resident, emphazing the right of self determination, communication and access to persons and services inside and outside the facility. In addition, a nursing home facility must protect and promote the rights of each resident, including each of the following rights: maintain and establish an infection control program to prevent the development and transmission of diseases and provide a safe, sanitary and comfortable environment. Under such infection control program, the facility must investigate, control, and prevent the spread of infection in the facility; decide the type of isolation procedure to apply to each individual resident who is suffering from an infectious disease; and maintain a record of incidents and corrective actions related to each infection. To prevent the spread of infection, the facility must isolate the resident and prohibit employees with a contagious disease or infected skin lesions from direct contact with residents or their food. • 32. Pablo Picasso Guernica Essay Guernica is another perfect example of Picasso exhibiting history in his work. The mural sized oil painting on canvas was painted by Pablo Picasso in 1937. It is painted in a palette of grey, black and white and is regarded by many as modern art s most powerful antiwar statement . The mural exhibits suffering people and animals wrenched by violence and chaos. A gored horse, a bull and flames are prominent features of the artwork. Guernica displays the tragedies of war and the suffering it imposes on individuals, specifically innocent civilians. The lack of colour intensifies the chaos and the tragedy. Guernica is a town in the province of Biscay in Basque Country. On Monday 26th April 1937, warplanes of the German Condor Legion bombed Guernica for two hours. At the time. Picasso was working on a mural for the Paris Exhibition that was to be held in the summer of 1937. On May 1st, news of the bombing of Guernica reached Paris. Picasso was appalled and enraged by ... Key figures such as the bull, the agonized horse and a woman with outstretched arms were perfected in sketch after sketch before being transferred onto the canvas. A painting is not thought out and settled in advance, Picasso said. While it is being done, it changes as one s thoughts change. And when it is finished, it goes on changing, according to the state of mind of whoever is looking at it. The bull and the horse are both important characters in Spanish culture. The rampaging bull is thought to represent the onslaught of Fascism. Picasso said the bull meant brutality and darkness while the horse represented the people of Guernica. The painting was at first overwhelmingly criticised as Cubism was still a fairly new concept at this time. Picasso continued producing work and was eventually a world renowned artist. • 33. Writing In The Age Of Distraction Cory Doctorow Summary The article Writing in the Age of Distraction by Cory Doctorow is an article talking about how the Internet is often misconceived as a place where procrastination comes alive. In said article, Doctorow makes a detailed list on how he manages to avoid procrastination and get work done, while still using the Internet. The first step he lists is setting a goal for yourself and sticking with it. Choose a number of words or number of pages you want to type for that day and aim for it. Do not stop before you reach that goal. Similarly, Doctorow says, once you do reach that goal, stop for the day. Stop in the middle of your sentence even, so that the next time you sit down to work, you know where to start from. In his exact words, Doctorow states: When you hit your daily word goal, stop. Stop even if you re in the middle of a sentence. Especially if you re in the middle of a sentence. That way, when you sit down at the keyboard the next day, your first five or ten words are already ordained, so that you get a little push before you begin your work. (Doctorow) He then says that when you are actually sitting down to work, you need to stop researching. One of the easiest ways to get sidetracked while working is by getting distracted by information that isn t important for your assignment, but seem relevant at the time. Set aside specific time for research so you don t end up procrastinating when you should be working. Another tip Doctorow gives is to remember not to get distracted using your word processor. Doing things like playing with the font or debating over which color your words should be in will only kill valuable time. Turning off your cell phone and ignoring social media notifications is also a great way of making sure you don t end up wasting your own time. I choose to write about Doctorow s article because I often find myself getting distracted both before and during the process of writing a paper. Much like Doctorow, I d been instructed by several high school teachers to stay away from the Internet while writing so I didn t divert my attention away from the assignment I was supposed to be working on. During the first three years of high school, I followed this advice almost religiously, and even went so far ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Something s Got Ta Give By Diane Keaton In society age is a key aspect in the way people view others and how they communicate, a person s age sets a tone for the language they use in communication with different groups be it their peers, elders, or the young. Three aspects of age in society are communication, ability, and socially constructed stigmas. Many of such aspects are portrayed in the movie Something s Gotta Give , where a swinger on the cusp of being a senior citizen with a taste for young women falls in love with an accomplished woman closer to his age. Harry, the soon to be senior citizen is played by Jack Nicholas and Erica, played by Diane Keaton is an accomplished writer and the mother of Harry s young companion. The movie makes you stop and think; what does age mean in the dating world today. In the world of dating many people ask, does age matter? The answer is yes and no; as many different components come into play. In the movie Somethings Gotta Give , Harry dates a younger woman and when he meets her mom she doesn t seem to mind that her boyfriend is much older than her. An older male and younger woman is accepted in society, whereas an older woman dating a younger man becomes labeled as a cougar . A man who dates a younger woman receives no such title, this is socially constructed by the white male dominant group, as to say it is ok for a man to do it, but when a woman does it, she s a cougar . A man dating a young woman has been around for centuries and coming from a dominant group the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the 60 s Lichtenstein drew on commercial art like comic images and advertisements. Whaam! Has been in the Tate collection since 1966 and has been one of the most well known modern masterpieces in Britain. The painting depicts a picture of violence. An American fighter unleashing a round of fire that blows up an enemy plane. This painting was greatly influenced by DC comic All American Men of war, drawn by Irv Novick in 1962. Whaam! Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Roy Lichtenstein used bright and vibrant colors such as the yellow and red with black outlines in a cartoon like style. Thick black outlines were very popular within pop art. Lichtenstein used acrylic and oil paint on both canvases when creating Whaam!. The background, however, is changed to a blue gray that compliments the remaining colors. The two panels are spatially and temporally linked. The left panel shows the attacking plane and in the right panel, you see the exploding plane, which is outlined by flames, accompanied by the bold word WHAAM! even though both canvases are separate you can still see the left panel containing the missile launch and on the other side you see the explosion, indicating two distinct events. Lichtenstein made the exploding plane more prominent compared to the attacking plane, emphasizing the flames. The plane on the left is dramatically angled making aggressive lines intensify the sense of motion and make the painting more captivating. Whaam! is a subtle yet high level painting. I really liked this artwork because of Lichtensteins use of color and comic like style. Roy Lichtenstein used a lot of realism within his paintings, everyday imagery, and a heavy amount of irony. With the United States heading to war, pop artist liked to use current events and shed light on them by using everyday consumer products and packaging. I would display this artwork in my house. ... • 36. The comparison between John Milton s Paradise Lost and... Of Things Invisible to Mortal SightThe Holy Bible is in many ways a story of origins. The history recounted both in the Old and New Testaments has at its base the perception of a fallen humanity; beginning with the fall from Eden and the nature of evil, to the means of regaining Gods grace and the discussion of free will, it emphasizes humanitys inability to fully comprehend the nature of God and of the universe. In writing his epic Paradise Lost, John Milton is fully aware of his limitations as a mortal man; however, in an attempt to transcend the finite to the infinite, to describe the indescribable and to understand the unknown, Milton bases his arguments on Biblical theology to show that mankind has fallen from immortality to mortality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though this event is mentioned often within the Holy Bible Milton expounds upon it and dedicates the first two books of Paradise Lost entirely to a description of hell and Satans plan to tempt humanity. It can be assumed that Milton basses his arguments on one of the more detailed descriptions of Satan that can be found in the book of Isaiah, chapter 14:12. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds: I will be like the most High. Milton draws his inspiration from these verses in describing Satans pride and his attempt to wage war in heaven. However, in his attempt to make Paradise Lost both a conversation and a narration, Milton decides to describe Satans descend from heaven in closer detail, even with the risk of committing sacrilege. The first difference between Miltons epic and the Holy Bible is seen as Milton begins the narration in hell; just moments before, Satan and his following angels are thrown out from heaven because of disobedience. Miltons main purpose is to juxtapose the fallen natures of the demons with that of humanity and to show the inferior natures of people to that of angels. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Society undoubtedly has a convincing and prevailing public literacy, as well as, numerous accepted symbols and ideas that legitimize the meaning of being an American. As the author of Puzzlements of a High School Watcher , Theodore R. Sizer explains how American media is the leading edge of shared experience, which is pronounced in the generally shared language and symbols and how it is our reality. Sizer focuses on the fact that as a nation, America has a persuasive and powerful public literacy. He claims that it is the outcome of shows aired on television and very uniform education processes. In his article, Sizer first sets the stage by describing the similarities among American high schools. He articulates that the similarities in the system are so solid that a student moving schools, even across the nation, would be in the same academic situation as they left and would only lose few steps. Sizer continues by claiming that at least four properties can characterize American public literacy: it is centrally driven, usually for merchandising purposes; it is commercial; it simplifies, synthesizes, unifies, and focuses; and lastly, literacy is sophisticated. By starting his article with his observations of American public literacy, Sizer introduces and backs the issue. Sizer does not offer suggestions for change. Instead, he begins to ask carefully chosen questions which provoke his audience to ponder their own answers. Aside from his own credibility of being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
