The New Guinea Pig
The New Pig
In movies you hear some things about guinea pigs. You may hear that they are mostly used as test
subjects. You may hear that people eat them in South America. You may think that guinea pigs are
gross, long tailed rodents, but they aren t. In my opinion guinea pigs are cute. And they have no
tail. But they are classified as a rodent. I do think that guinea pigs are cute. They squeak , they
chirp, and when they walk, it is more of a waddle. But neither my mother nor father want me to get
a guinea pig. They think that I will not take care of it. They think that I will let it starve. They
think that I will let it go thirsty because I will forget to give it water. But I think that I will be
responsible enough. I took care of a Beta fish ( a Japanese fighting fish ) for 3 years without it
dying. I changed it s water in the bowl twice a week every week for ... Show more content on

Then I begged my mom and dad for a guinea pig for a long time. And after a long time of begging
and telling them how responsible I was, my mom and dad finally broke down. They said, Fine,
you can have a guinea pig, but you have to agree to take care of it. Yes! , I shouted. So my mom
took me to the pet store to get the guinea pig a cage. We went to a pet store that was closing, so
everything was ВЅ off . We got a large blue cage with a wire top, a wooden house, a metal food
bowl, and a bunch of toys. Then the day after that we went to a different pet store to get the
guinea pig. I ended up choosing a male, baby guinea pig. Sometimes to the this day my guinea pig
will bite me and not want to come out. Plus when we would actually get him out, he would just sit
there. To get him to do anything we would have to lure him with lettuce or carrots.
But now my guinea pig is a little less lazy. He ll walk around on my floor now, and he will run
around in the kitchen. He is crazy for carrots. Or any other type of

Research Paper On Speciesism
Speciesism In our everyday lives we do not normally think about where the chicken came from
on our sandwich, nor do we think or care about how it once use to be a living and breathing
being. This lack of acknowledgement and empathy for other species is called speciesism. The
term speciesism is coined by psychologist Richard D. Ryder but it is more associated with
philosophers Tom Regan and Peter Singer.
In the Merriam Webster dictionary speciesism is defined as 1. Prejudice or discrimination based on
species; especially discrimination against animals; 2. the assumption of human superiority on which
speciesism is based. Thus the main concept of speciesism is all beings are equal. Even in our
own history we are speciesist towards one another. Racism and sexism are the most thought of
analogies for speciesism. Since World War II this has become a major issue in the United States,
(Crobett, paragraph 5) and after the world saw what Adolf Hitler did to the Jews and other
prisoners in the concentration camps, people wanted equality for race, religion, and gender. Now
it is an everyday occurrences in our culture to hear on the news or see over the internet about some
type of discrimination. A prime example of this is the Ku Klux Kian, who brutally beat and killed

Say if there were five species on a planet and only one species could live because the planet is
about to explode, how would one choose? If to say one of the five species was the human race,
would that make a difference? Speciesism states that if you choose the human race over the other
four species that would be unmoral because you would base your choice over physical
characteristics. With that choice you would cause the other four species to suffer when in all
actuality all five species are equal and none of those species should be picked over the

A Brief Note On The Civilian Aerospace Industry Essay
Introduction: The civilian aerospace industry comprises firms that produce aircraft and firms that
parts of these aircraft. The most commonly produced civilian transport airliners range from smaller
turboprop aircraft to larger wide body jets. Other types aircraft are produced in much smaller
quantities and include two seat leisure aircraft, corporate jets, and civilian helicopters.
Consumers of the American aircraft include the US government, airline companies, cargo
transportation companies, and various private businesses. Aircraft manufacturers contract with
these firms to produce aircraft. These manufacturers often subcontract with smaller companies for
specific components such as engines and electronics.
The limited amount of aircraft contracts and large economies of scale in aircraft production has led
the civilian aerospace industry to be dominated by a few large firms. The United States is home to
most of the major producers in the civil aerospace industry, notably the Boeing Company, United
Technologies, and General Electric. Due to the complexity of certain aircraft parts, subcontractor
firms specialize to only produce those components. For example, companies such as General
Electric and the United Technologies Corporation specialize in the production of aircraft engines.
These parts are then sold to companies like Boeing and incorporated into the airframe to produce a
complete aircraft. Notable foreign competitors include the European Aeronautic Defence and

The Pros And Cons Of Mothers Against Drunk Driving
On February 3, 2017, Tim Piazza, a sophomore here at Penn State, tragically lost his life at the Beta
Theta Pi fraternity house. This horrific event was a result of irresponsible consumption of alcohol
and binge drinking. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. Around the nation, countless young adults
have lost their life due to the thoughtless consumption of alcohol. Unfortunately, the common
census between the majority of the average day Americans is that the most effective way to make
drinking safer for young adults is enforcing a minimum drinking age of twenty one. This law, as
well as the common census, are a direct result from the efforts of Mothers Against Drunk Driving
(MADD) more than thirty years ago ( Drinking Culture). MADD s objective and goal is quite
understandable; they want the young adults of today s world to be safe and not put themselves
into dangerous situations with alcohol, but they doing more harm than good. ( The Problem ).
Safety is the single objective from each side in this argument, but MADD s flawed logic and
ignorance to reality has formed a belief that results in an unsafe drinking culture, resulting in more
deaths, such as the tragic passing of Tim Piazza, unless the drinking age is lowered to eighteen, as
well as establishing an open dialogue about drinking itself. Mothers Against Drunk Driving aims to
create the safest possible environment for a young adults to develop, but their argument contains a
sense of ignorance to the reality

Examples Of The Transcendentalism Movement
Introduction The transcendentalism movement is a prominent example that resulted in change and
revolution in human history. A literary, religious, political and philosophical movement,
transcendentalism started in the mid 1830s and challenged the traditional views of society,
particularly those related to the established churches. The origins of transcendentalismdate back to
sixteenth and seventeenth century New England, when Puritanism first emerged as a call for
furthering perfection of the Protestant Reform (Bremer and Webster 13). Unitarians, successors of
Puritans, also initiated the transcendental movement and were conceived as mentors of many rising
transcendentalists (Grodzins 1). Eventually, these rising transcendentalists... Show more content on

Origins of Transcendentalism The emergence of transcendentalism is largely attributed to the
religious reform movement of Puritanism that began in the late sixteenth century in New England.
The foundational beliefs of Puritanism paralleled with those of Calvinism, and strongly contrasts
with those of the transcendentalists. For example, the Puritans emphasized theocracy based on the
bible, as well as salvation, material wealth, and man s dominance over nature. Contrastingly, the
transcendentalists believed in democracy based on intuition, the simplification of every day life,
and man being one with nature. Unitarianism also gave rise to transcendentalism, as the Unitarian
church took more of an anti Calvinist approach which appealed to the transcendentalists. The
founders of transcendentalism were Unitarian intellectuals of the middle and upper classes of
eastern Massachusetts, who took a strong interest in moral reform. Initially, they looked to
Unitarians as teachers, however, they eventually challenged the important principles of the
Unitarian church. These transcendentalists not only challenged the Unitarian doctrines that were
taught at Harvard Divinity School, but they protested against the general aspects of society and
intellectualism. Rather than through logic and the doctrines of established religions, the
transcendentalists believed that the spiritual state can only be accomplished through one s

Road To Morocco Sparknotes
1. What is the Middle East like? What is it like compared to the U.S. or Europe? Road to
Morocco depicts the Middle East, as a vast sandy desert, home to few settlements (Karameesh is
shown to be the only city in a vast empty desert) and only partially inhabited by people, as well as
camels. It is depicted as a mysterious, exotic and erotic place, with Jeff and Orville repeatedly
calling it strange due to their inability to understand it traditions,, which is where most of the film
s humor arises. One of the many times Jeff and Orville call it strange, they take back their
comments because a woman in sheer veils walks by in a midriff baring jewelled bra and flowing

This is also evident in Kasim s various rampages through Karameesh in which he and his men

the restaurant scene in which guards watch customers and threaten them with physical force if they

Before the performance begun, there was a couch positioned on the center of the stage. Behind the
couch, a rectangular entrance was opened revealing a hallway where the actors entered. Falsettos,
had changeable scenes that constantly used the rectangular entrance. It easily drawn the audiences
attention when the actor entered because the lighting drenched the entrance, cueing the actors to
enter. The vacant couch placed before the performance began could be distorted into chairs,
short end tables, and a love seat. One scene I remembered that distorted the couch apart into an
assortment of furniture was Marvin s visit at the psychologist s office. Before the scene was
cued, the couch was distorted into a love seat, and a chair. These props conveniently made it a
less hassle changing furniture pieces. Also, the back wall had photo images of framed pictures
and books that were projected to make the set livable. Although, the set itself helped me envision
what the 80 s and late 70 s may had looked like by style, the sounds that I heard in the
performance revealed the conflict Marvin was having to find true love. One sound that was plot
driven in the performance was when he smacked Trina. He smacked her because he was angry
towards her for flirting with Mendel, Marvin s psychologist. He thought she deserved a smack for
disobedience in the family, but ironically Marvin

multiple cartels in Mexico who control certain sections of the country, but all have aligned with
one or the other of the two Goliaths. This war started over the drug routes stemming from southern

this country. The bottom line is that the Mexican Drug Cartel war doesn t concern the U.S. because
it is not this country s problem. The United States of America is the main consumer of the drugs

The Marks Of An Educated Man By Richard Butler
An educated person can be described in many ways as to what makes them smarter. In the essay
The Marks of an Educated Man, Butler puts his point across as to what he believes should be the
characteristics for an educated person. The use of one s language must be used very well if he
wants to project himself as an educated man. To show others how smart you are, you need to be
able to speak your language and very well at most. What a person knows is very important but not
in just one field, he must seek to obtain knowledge from other sources and experiences.. Also a

Female Idealizations And Norms Within The Films Like Water...
The complex web of cultural determinations and predefined ideological system are predominant in
the lives of the female characters named Tita, Gertrudis, and Frida Kahlo in the movies Like Water
for Chocolate and Frida. Furthermore, throughout history, the development of female idealizations
and norms, which powerfully influences the behavior of women throughout society, has derived
from a masculine structure that is imposed onto the female gender. Although this is still prevalent
in modern culture, throughout the years surrounding the Mexican Revolution, women were
perceived as subordinate to men due to particular cultural determinants and predefined beliefs that
existed within the structure of society. Specifically, this structure played a leading role in the lives
of women, which regarded them as inferior to men while characteristically portraying women in
traditional domestic roles, thereby influencing the social norm of femininitythroughout civilization.
Predominantly, throughout the films, the existence of the complex web of cultural determinations
and the predefined ideological system within social and family traditions largely impacts the
dominant character and behavior of Tita, Gertrudis, and Frida. As such, in order to break free from
the complex web of cultural determinations, and challenge the predefined ideological systems in
their lives, the female characters of Tita, Gertrudis, and Frida behave in rebellious ways that reject

Big Brother s Government
The blatant evils of an all controlling government are spelled out by George Orwell in his novel,
1984, in an effort to push his agenda against totalitarianism. Orwell offers a look into a future
governed by dictators. He points out the exaggeratingly blind faith people have in following the
convention, turning them into sheep to be easily preyed on by a power hungry government. So long
it will please Big Brother, the ruling government in the plot, the public welcomes around the clock
surveillance of their every action and thought, extreme rationing for an unproved war, absolute
restrictions on all relationships, a forced nationalism and the most minimal quality of life. George

The author created an alternate dimension where the future was a nightmare: being watched at all
times, no private moments, and no ties to anyone except Big Brother were allowed. 1984 is an
endeavor by Orwell to make the public face their reality head on, to make them realize that they
are capable of choosing their way of life. Choosing powerful themes, he wants to awaken primal
emotions in his audience; he wants them to struggle under the finger of Big Brother and not be
tolerant of such dictatorship. Orwell needs people to think and decide for themselves what they

Bees Gone? Morgan E. Peck Discover Magazine 2009 Summary Each year since 2006, bees
have gradually been disappearing from their hives or dying off. Bees have died off before in the
past. This is called colony collapse disorder or CCD. In the past CCD was cause by mites or
infections, but now this is caused because of the commercial agricultural farmers. Bees play a key
part in pollination. When the crops are pollinated by the bees, they are capable of producing the
fruits or vegetables the human population eats. Farmers primarily depend upon the bees to pollinate

Whatever the proximate cause, it increasingly appears that the bees are succumbing to a long
ignored underlying condition inbreeding. Decades of agricultural and breeding practices meant to
maximize pollinating efficiency have limited honeybees genetic diversity at a time when they
need it the most. Addressing CCD may therefore require more than a simple fix. We need to have
a diverse set of genetic raw material so we can find bees resistant to disease, says Steve Sheppard,
an entomologist at Washington State University. Genetic diversity is an important part of the
solution. The problem is hardly trivial. A third of the total human diet depends on plants pollinated
by insects, predominantly honeybees. In North America honeybees pollinate more than 90 crops
with an annual value totaling almost $15 billion. Indeed, that importance lies at the root of what
went wrong. In trying to make bees more productive, apiarists have torn the insects from their
natural habitats and the routines they mastered over millions of years. As a result, today s
honeybees are sickly, enslaved, and mechanized. We ve looked at bees as robots that would keep
on trucking no matter what, says Heather Mattila of Wellesley College, who studies honeybee
behavior and genetics. They can t be pushed and pushed. In the beginning, honeybees and their

Introduction In this paper I m going explore United Nations International Children s Emergency
Fund (UNICEF) and what they do to provide food and nutrition to people in developing countries.
Also in this paper I will be exploring Community food banks and what they do to provide food and
nutrition to people in need in the U.S. There is a statement in our text that obesity results from over
nutrition. Is this always true? Is it possible to be obese and lack adequate nutrition? Which foods
contribute most to obesity? How nutritious are those foods?
United Nations International Children s Emergency Fund (UNICEF)
What they do to provide food and nutrition to people in developing countries UNICEF was
created in 1946 to provide relief to children in countries devastated by World War II. After 1950
the fund directed its efforts toward general programs for the improvement of children s welfare,
particularly in less developed countries and in various emergency situations. The organization s
broader mission was reflected in the name it adopted in 1953, the United Nations Children s
Fund. UNICEF was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1965. UNICEF does whatever it takes
to save and protect the world s most vulnerable children. Forty years ago, UNICEF figured out that
promoting simple, low cost interventions like hand washing and breastfeeding could save millions
of lives.

The Wise Fool in King Lear
Whether or not the role of the Fool is an important one within King Lear is arguable. Although he
seems to have great insight into much of the plays main events, he seems not to have any real
influence on both the plot as well as the outcome of the play. He remains the sole character who
does not have any direct link with the events of the plot, coupled with an unusually early exit; this
raises the question of his significance. However at the very least he does certainly serve as
entertainment not only for Lear but the audience as well, with his honesty, wittiness, and clever
speeches that not only adds to the light humour but also to show us that the Fool could indeed be

However, we can see that when the Fool becomes too close to the raw truth Lear will warn him
that he will be whipped if he goes too far. When Lear first warns him with it, he replies:
Truth s a dog, that must to kennel: he must be whipped out, when the Lady Brach may stand by the
fire and stink.
Here the Fool warns Lear that his two daughters will have control over him due to his actions.
Although Lear doesn t want to hear the truth and therefore tries to avoid it, the Fool essentially
forces it out into the open through his speeches. He often uses comedic verses of saying to
highlight the point he is trying to put across. In addition to this, he also provides various rhymes
and riddles, taking on the role of a Chorus as a means of discussing the plays actions in a light
hearted yet clearly stating the essence of what is happening. For example, the following quotation
sees the Fool referring to Lear s actions concerning Cordelia:
...That man makes his toe
What he his heart should make,
Shall of a corn cry woe
And turn his sleep to wake
He refers to the way in which people may drive away those who they should love due to
misplaced affection and that this will ultimately cause a person much grief and sleeplessness. This
refers to the way he reacted when Cordelia failed to flatter him in his `love test. This suggest the
Fool to be quite wise to point this out, however it may be too

The Red Guard Movement Essay
The cultural revolution is a strange period in Chinese history laced with intense struggle and
anguish. The cultural revolution mobilized the all of society to compete for all opposing factions
that they belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized the young people of society during a
background of political turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his
political legitimacy and ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao s charismatic authority created his personality cult
and most defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber,
1946) (Andreas, 2007). No matter which faction of the red guard they belonged to, they all
mobilized against their common enemy; the better off, upper class. (Ong, 2016). Multiple
ideologies within the youth led red guard movement explain why the movement gained momentum
and became incredibly powerful (Walder, 2009).
The red guard movement can be primarily explained two different theories. The first theory is the
lack of political cohesion and party factionalism among the elites starting during the Great Leap
Forward, which boiled into 100 Flowers Campaign and then subsequently the Cultural Revolution
(Meisner, 1999). It is the battle between these elite factions and the prohibition of dissent which
resulted in the creation of the Red Guards, which in effect served as agent for the Maoist faction
(Yang, 2000). The second theory would be the breakdown of societal institutions, such as education,

The Stimulus Of The Words
In Jabberwocky the stimulus of the words in context activates thought and the ability to recognize
known structures in memory. The context and the placement of the words in sentences allow us to
make assumptions about grammatical structure. We determine how a particular word functions in
that sentence, i.e., an adjective, verb, adverb, etc. And the words placement within the sentence
helps to reveal meaning. ( Sukar Ray ) Lewis Carroll makes up words that tell a story, when
strewn together in patterns that mimic known grammatical structures. Here, no one to one
relationship between word and referent exists in the world, but it very much feels as if it does
because of the context in which the poem is set. It is also an example of how closely related the
concept of musical metaphor is with poetic metaphor. In his book Bernstein describes the three
metaphors used in music: As concisely as possible, this is it: music has intrinsic meaning of its
own, which are not to be confused with specific feelings or moods, and certainly not with pictorial
impressions or stories. These intrinsic musical meanings are generated by a constant stream of
metaphors, all of which are forms of poetic transformations. (131) Bernstein seeks to prove that
music has intrinsic, extrinsic and analogical meaning much the same way language does for non
musical meanings. But the exploration can be turned inside out so that we might say that Carroll in
his quirky sounds and made up strange

Witchcraft Hysteria
There were many significant factors that came into play at the time of the Salem witchcraft
hysteria. Of the numerable amount of factors that contributed to the hysteria the most influential
were religion, superstition, politics, economics, and concepts of gender during this time period.
People during the 1600 s lacked a basic understanding of how things around them worked
compared to what is known and generally accepted in today s world of science. For this sole reason
the concept of magicand witchcraftwas widely and generally accepted by a large majority of the
population during this time period. People often used false accusations of witchcraft against their
neighbors because it gave them a simple way to steal another person s land. Women were also not
trustworthy sources.
Religion played the most crucial role in the development of the witch hysteria. Residents in the
town of Salem were Puritans, which meant they were very immoderate in their beliefs.
Puritans believed their life purpose was to serve God, which meant vanquishing evil even if
there was no evil present. The average lifestyle of a Puritan was monotonous and dull; they
believed life was meant to be simple, and any spare time should have been spent serving God.
Puritans strived to exterminate any presence of the Devil or evil they could find so they could
pursue their quest of being worthy of being saved by their God. Puritans looked down to people
that did not serve God the same way that they did, and they

Too much risk can result in critical failure of the business and too little risk can reduce
competitiveness. Risk is the effect of uncertainty on objectives which have both positive and
negative effects. According to the ISO/IEC Guide 73, risks are the combination of the probability
of an event and its consequences which have the potential for benefits (upside) if managed
effectively, or the threat of success (downside) as a result of poor assessment and management.
Risks are a central part of any organisation s strategic management; it is suggested that the greater
the risk involved, the higher the return. However, this can only be managed by effective
identification and treatment of all perceivable risks. Risk management is a process that is
supported by a set of principles and structures that are appropriate to the organisation and its
external environment and requires a balance between the level of the risk in relation to the size,
nature and complexity of the organisation.

Background/Culture
Mexico is located in Northern America, bordered by the United States, Belize and
Guatemala. The country s population is at currently 112.3 million with a total land area
of 1,972,550 km. The majority of this population s language is Spanish, making this
country the largest Spanish speaking population in the world. A significant portion of the
country of Mexico is Catholic, although there are a variety of other prevalent religions.
The Mexican community views their religion and family life as a vital piece of their
cultural structure and place a high value on both the social community and family
responsibility. The overall culture in Mexico is vibrant and energetic, with a heavy
emphasis on its many holidays and traditions. The food includes staples of corn and
wheat tortillas, beans, rice, tomatoes chili peppers, and chorizo. Fuel and mining
account for a large piece of the GDP in Mexico, and manufacturing has become a
growing industry for the country as well. In this case we will discuss globalization effects
and how culture has affected some of the HR policies in Mexican society today.

The Machine That Changed The World, And Milkman s `` The...
Womack s The Machine That Changed the World, and Milkman s The New Linden jointly tell a
story regarding the development, practice, and global adoption of lean production by auto
manufacturers in the mid 20th Century. Furthermore, these writings support the notion that during
this time period, the American workplace was rapidly changing, which held varying implications
for the worker, management, and unions. With the rise of lean production came an improvement in
labor management relations with focus on the individual through stronger job protections, and
positive interactions between employees and technology in the workspace. Despite this, these
improvements came at the cost of decreased union influence, and the ability to... Show more content

This was achieved via the creation of quality circles, where individual workers could contribute
suggestions to improve the production process, and increasing job security (and consequently
worker loyalty) through lifetime employment and seniority based pay. (Womack 54 56). After the
Japanese auto industry became increasingly competitive with its American counterpart, auto
companies like GM decided to adopt most, if not all practices included in lean manufacturing. This
manifested in the creation of the NUMMI plant, which was a joint effort between GM and Toyota,
and the development of Saturn, a GM subsidiary that exclusively used the practices of lean
production. At these factories, the adoption of lean production generally held the same benefits for
American workers as it did with Japanese workers. What proves ironic in the case of the NUMMI
and Saturn plant, is the fact that the UAW and GM negotiated the terms of employment prior the
factories opening. (Milkman 139) Considering that these plants generally provided the employee
with a positive working experience, emphasized the role of the individual in the team concept, and
consequently removed the need for collective bargaining, the collaborative effort between the UAW
and GM in developing these plants ultimately impeded the influence that the UAW had. In a society
that perceived unions as corrupt and untrustworthy, and not necessarily in the interests of workers,

Huey P. Newton Gun Club Analysis
In light of the racial injustice and police brutality happening across America, many in the Black
community have been left wondering what can we do to fix this problem? While it s evident that
the lack of support has left parts of the Black community in a weakened state, many communities
have started to take matters into their own hands, forming gun clubs as a form of self protection.
In the wake of the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown, a new gun club was formed in Dallas called

part helps students learn the difference between physical characteristics and character traits.
Students will begin by making personal connections to their own traits. Students will cut a large
hole in piece of construction paper as frame for their face. On the boarder they will use physical and
inner characteristics to describe themselves. They will partner with someone to add a feature they
may have not used. As students learn to describe each, they get more familiar with the main
character. Each book has multiple supporting characters, but only one main character. They will
learn to focus attention in illustrations and print, to the character s actions and feelings, and how
they change through the story.
Once the students are familiar with each character, they can begin activities to compare and
contrast the characters, their feelings, and their ideas. They will also analyze if the characters
affected the traits or feelings of the main character. As each lesson is taught, centers are developed
for small group and independent learning. Centers focus on student s interests and intelligences and
go across the curriculum. After creating a list of traits for each character, students will sort traits on
Smart Board and magnetic index cards. For the kinesthetic learner, students will crumble paper with
characters on it and toss it into the prospective baskets with

Hermaphrodites, or what we call in the modern times: intersexuals, are misunderstood throughout
the entire world. Often times when we hear the word intersexuals or hermaphrodites we
automatically have a negative connotation towards them. However, what most people do not

were dated back to even the time when Plato was alive. However, the idea, or the actual concept of

The Death Of Our Village
When I was young our village was much different than the hell we are in now. It all began when
me and some other children were playing on the beach. We suddenly saw something floating in
the distance. It appeared to be an enemy ship approaching, but as it was drawn further in by the
rolling tide, we could make out outlines of a human figure. Slowly but surely the waves pushed
the mysterious being onto the shore. We dragged him over to the sand. Water began to sprout from
his mouth like a newly dug up spring. With little sputtered coughs he vomited the sea water all
out. His eyes shot open shocking us all. With all his might he tried to raise his body, only to be lose

We did not even have to clean off his face to know that the dead man was a stranger. The village
was made up of only twenty odd wooden houses that had stone courtyards with no flowers and
which were spread about on the end of a desert like cape. There was so little land that mothers
always went about with the fear that the wind would carry off their children and the few dead that
the years had caused among them had to be thrown off the cliffs. But the sea was calm and
bountiful and all the men fitted into seven boats. So when we found the drowned man we simply
had to look at one another to see that we were all there.
That night the men did not work at sea. While the men went to find out if anyone was missing in
neighboring villages, the women stayed behind to care for the drowned man. The woman took the
mud off with grass swabs, they removed the underwater stones entangled in his hair, and washed
him with soap and water. As they were doing that we noticed that the vegetation on him came
from faraway oceans and that his clothes were in tatters, as if he had sailed through labyrinths of
coral. But only when they finished cleaning him off did we become aware of the kind of man he
was and it left them breathless. He was the tallest, strongest, most virile, and best built man we had
ever seen.
We could not find a bed in the village large enough to lay him on nor was there a table solid
enough to use for him. The tallest men s

Side Effects Of The American Revolution
The end of the American Revolution brought about a new sense of triumph for the privileged white
male colonist but did little in the sense of improving the lives of Native Americans, African
Americans and women. In fact, improvement in the lives of these groups was an unintended side
effect of the revolution, not the desired result.
In the beginning of the American Revolution, most Native Americans wished to remain neutral but
eventually sided with the British in hopes of preventing the American colonists from further
appropriating their land. When the American colonist won the American Revolution, the British
failed to protect their allies and offered Native American land to America in the Treaty of Paris.

Regional Planning And Regional Development Strategies
Regional planning literature, for instance Barca (2009) suggests that there are various strategies
which can be used to stimulate development (regional/national) and these can be categorised into
classes, including inter alia, place neutral and place based development strategies. This paper
however, dwells much on the analysis of the arguments levelled in support of placed based
development strategies as a recipe for regional development, with reference to Zimbabwe s
provinces. By and large, development is a very broad and illusive concept hence there is no
consensus among scholars as to what really constitutes development. Barca (2011) argues that
place based development strategies or mechanisms are partially a response to the perceived
failures of earlier regional development strategies and focus instead on tackling underutilised
economic potential and reducing social exclusion, through supply of integrated goods and services
tailored to local contexts and triggering innovation, which is critical to regional economic growth.
In distinguishing place based development strategies from traditional development strategies,
Barca (2011:221) argues that, place based approaches to regional development put greater
emphasis on arguing that, the well being of each and every individual also depends on the context
in which he or she lives . Critical to note however, is the fact that if regional development is to be
effected in Zimbabwe s provinces, there is need to integrate place

The Principles of Communication
Communication is an ever developing topic in which human beings can express their feelings and
emotions on a daily basis whether they were positive or negative in the most suitable way.
According to Preja (2013) the term Communication can be traced back to the Latin word Communis
which stands for to be connected to or to be in a relationship with . Communicationcan be classified
to two types, verbal and non verbal. Verbal communication focuses mainly on vocals while non
verbal communication is innate and takes into account the speechless signals people do, not say,
when interacting with each other. It takes several forms, such as voice characteristics, body
language, chromatics and chronemics. In this report, the importance of non verbal communication
concept will be discussed as well as an explanation and examples of each of these types. Non
Verbal refers to a communication use no words but use haptics, proxemics ,kinesics and chromatics
rather than words spoken or written , it can give people s real feeling. However, non verbal
communication is a use of body language and paralanguagesuch as tone, laughter and facial
expression. Acccording to Leemann, kolly Dellwo (2014) Supra segmental voice characteristics
show that individuals can be recognised by hearing their voices even if they are not familiar, Such
observations reveal that speakers carry individual features in their voices ,the fact that human voices

a deeper understanding of how mentally impaired people were treated at the time. She is
necessary to Jane and Rochester s imminent marriage and her actions lead the two to reconcile.
Her motives and the causes for behavior are unclear, besides her obvious jealousy towards Jane
and betrayal she felt from Rochester. Not only that, but Bertha also symbolizes everything Jane
is not, mirroring her in a way as a polar opposite. At the start of the novel the reader knows
nothing about Bertha mason. She does not make an appearance till Jane becomes aware of a
strong smell of burning coming from Rochester s room. Although she suspects Grace to have

  • 2. The New Guinea Pig The New Pig In movies you hear some things about guinea pigs. You may hear that they are mostly used as test subjects. You may hear that people eat them in South America. You may think that guinea pigs are gross, long tailed rodents, but they aren t. In my opinion guinea pigs are cute. And they have no tail. But they are classified as a rodent. I do think that guinea pigs are cute. They squeak , they chirp, and when they walk, it is more of a waddle. But neither my mother nor father want me to get a guinea pig. They think that I will not take care of it. They think that I will let it starve. They think that I will let it go thirsty because I will forget to give it water. But I think that I will be responsible enough. I took care of a Beta fish ( a Japanese fighting fish ) for 3 years without it dying. I changed it s water in the bowl twice a week every week for ... And after a long time of begging and telling them how responsible I was, my mom and dad finally broke down. They said, Fine, you can have a guinea pig, but you have to agree to take care of it. Yes! , I shouted. So my mom took me to the pet store to get the guinea pig a cage. We went to a pet store that was closing, so everything was ВЅ off . We got a large blue cage with a wire top, a wooden house, a metal food bowl, and a bunch of toys. Then the day after that we went to a different pet store to get the guinea pig. I ended up choosing a male, baby guinea pig. Sometimes to the this day my guinea pig will bite me and not want to come out. Plus when we would actually get him out, he would just sit there. To get him to do anything we would have to lure him with lettuce or carrots. But now my guinea pig is a little less lazy. He ll walk around on my floor now, and he will run around in the kitchen. • 3. Research Paper On Speciesism Speciesism In our everyday lives we do not normally think about where the chicken came from on our sandwich, nor do we think or care about how it once use to be a living and breathing being. This lack of acknowledgement and empathy for other species is called speciesism. The term speciesism is coined by psychologist Richard D. Ryder but it is more associated with philosophers Tom Regan and Peter Singer. In the Merriam Webster dictionary speciesism is defined as 1. Prejudice or discrimination based on species; especially discrimination against animals; 2. the assumption of human superiority on which speciesism is based. Thus the main concept of speciesism is all beings are equal. Even in our own history we are speciesist towards one another. Racism and sexism are the most thought of analogies for speciesism. Since World War II this has become a major issue in the United States, (Crobett, paragraph 5) and after the world saw what Adolf Hitler did to the Jews and other prisoners in the concentration camps, people wanted equality for race, religion, and gender. Now it is an everyday occurrences in our culture to hear on the news or see over the internet about some type of discrimination. If to say one of the five species was the human race, would that make a difference? With that choice you would cause the other four species to suffer when in all actuality all five species are equal and none of those species should be picked over the ... The most commonly produced civilian transport airliners range from smaller turboprop aircraft to larger wide body jets. Other types aircraft are produced in much smaller quantities and include two seat leisure aircraft, corporate jets, and civilian helicopters. Consumers of the American aircraft include the US government, airline companies, cargo transportation companies, and various private businesses. Aircraft manufacturers contract with these firms to produce aircraft. These manufacturers often subcontract with smaller companies for specific components such as engines and electronics. The limited amount of aircraft contracts and large economies of scale in aircraft production has led the civilian aerospace industry to be dominated by a few large firms. The United States is home to most of the major producers in the civil aerospace industry, notably the Boeing Company, United Technologies, and General Electric. Due to the complexity of certain aircraft parts, subcontractor firms specialize to only produce those components. For example, companies such as General Electric and the United Technologies Corporation specialize in the production of aircraft engines. These parts are then sold to companies like Boeing and incorporated into the airframe to produce a complete aircraft. Notable foreign competitors include the European Aeronautic Defence and ... This horrific event was a result of irresponsible consumption of alcohol and binge drinking. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. Around the nation, countless young adults have lost their life due to the thoughtless consumption of alcohol. Unfortunately, the common census between the majority of the average day Americans is that the most effective way to make drinking safer for young adults is enforcing a minimum drinking age of twenty one. This law, as well as the common census, are a direct result from the efforts of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) more than thirty years ago ( Drinking Culture). MADD s objective and goal is quite understandable; they want the young adults of today s world to be safe and not put themselves into dangerous situations with alcohol, but they doing more harm than good. ( The Problem ). Safety is the single objective from each side in this argument, but MADD s flawed logic and ignorance to reality has formed a belief that results in an unsafe drinking culture, resulting in more deaths, such as the tragic passing of Tim Piazza, unless the drinking age is lowered to eighteen, as well as establishing an open dialogue about drinking itself. Mothers Against Drunk Driving aims to create the safest possible environment for a young adults to develop, but their argument contains a sense of ignorance to the reality ... • 8. Examples Of The Transcendentalism Movement Introduction The transcendentalism movement is a prominent example that resulted in change and revolution in human history. A literary, religious, political and philosophical movement, transcendentalism started in the mid 1830s and challenged the traditional views of society, particularly those related to the established churches. The origins of transcendentalismdate back to sixteenth and seventeenth century New England, when Puritanism first emerged as a call for furthering perfection of the Protestant Reform (Bremer and Webster 13). Unitarians, successors of Puritans, also initiated the transcendental movement and were conceived as mentors of many rising transcendentalists (Grodzins 1). Eventually, these rising transcendentalists... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Origins of Transcendentalism The emergence of transcendentalism is largely attributed to the religious reform movement of Puritanism that began in the late sixteenth century in New England. The foundational beliefs of Puritanism paralleled with those of Calvinism, and strongly contrasts with those of the transcendentalists. For example, the Puritans emphasized theocracy based on the bible, as well as salvation, material wealth, and man s dominance over nature. Contrastingly, the transcendentalists believed in democracy based on intuition, the simplification of every day life, and man being one with nature. Unitarianism also gave rise to transcendentalism, as the Unitarian church took more of an anti Calvinist approach which appealed to the transcendentalists. The founders of transcendentalism were Unitarian intellectuals of the middle and upper classes of eastern Massachusetts, who took a strong interest in moral reform. Initially, they looked to Unitarians as teachers, however, they eventually challenged the important principles of the Unitarian church. These transcendentalists not only challenged the Unitarian doctrines that were taught at Harvard Divinity School, but they protested against the general aspects of society and intellectualism. Rather than through logic and the doctrines of established religions, the transcendentalists believed that the spiritual state can only be accomplished through one s ... The complex web of cultural determinations and predefined ideological system are predominant in the lives of the female characters named Tita, Gertrudis, and Frida Kahlo in the movies Like Water for Chocolate and Frida. Furthermore, throughout history, the development of female idealizations and norms, which powerfully influences the behavior of women throughout society, has derived from a masculine structure that is imposed onto the female gender. Although this is still prevalent in modern culture, throughout the years surrounding the Mexican Revolution, women were perceived as subordinate to men due to particular cultural determinants and predefined beliefs that existed within the structure of society. Specifically, this structure played a leading role in the lives of women, which regarded them as inferior to men while characteristically portraying women in traditional domestic roles, thereby influencing the social norm of femininitythroughout civilization. This is called colony collapse disorder or CCD. In the past CCD was cause by mites or infections, but now this is caused because of the commercial agricultural farmers. Whatever the proximate cause, it increasingly appears that the bees are succumbing to a long ignored underlying condition inbreeding. Decades of agricultural and breeding practices meant to maximize pollinating efficiency have limited honeybees genetic diversity at a time when they need it the most. Addressing CCD may therefore require more than a simple fix. We need to have a diverse set of genetic raw material so we can find bees resistant to disease, says Steve Sheppard, an entomologist at Washington State University. Genetic diversity is an important part of the solution. The problem is hardly trivial. A third of the total human diet depends on plants pollinated by insects, predominantly honeybees. In North America honeybees pollinate more than 90 crops with an annual value totaling almost $15 billion. Indeed, that importance lies at the root of what went wrong. In trying to make bees more productive, apiarists have torn the insects from their natural habitats and the routines they mastered over millions of years. As a result, today s honeybees are sickly, enslaved, and mechanized. The cultural revolution mobilized the all of society to compete for all opposing factions that they belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized the young people of society during a background of political turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his political legitimacy and ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao s charismatic authority created his personality cult and most defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber, 1946) (Andreas, 2007). Multiple ideologies within the youth led red guard movement explain why the movement gained momentum and became incredibly powerful (Walder, 2009). The red guard movement can be primarily explained two different theories. The first theory is the lack of political cohesion and party factionalism among the elites starting during the Great Leap Forward, which boiled into 100 Flowers Campaign and then subsequently the Cultural Revolution (Meisner, 1999). It is the battle between these elite factions and the prohibition of dissent which resulted in the creation of the Red Guards, which in effect served as agent for the Maoist faction (Yang, 2000). The second theory would be the breakdown of societal institutions, such as education, leading up to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. The Stimulus Of The Words In Jabberwocky the stimulus of the words in context activates thought and the ability to recognize known structures in memory. The context and the placement of the words in sentences allow us to make assumptions about grammatical structure. We determine how a particular word functions in that sentence, i.e., an adjective, verb, adverb, etc. And the words placement within the sentence helps to reveal meaning. ( Sukar Ray ) Lewis Carroll makes up words that tell a story, when strewn together in patterns that mimic known grammatical structures. Here, no one to one relationship between word and referent exists in the world, but it very much feels as if it does because of the context in which the poem is set. It is also an example of how closely related the concept of musical metaphor is with poetic metaphor. In his book Bernstein describes the three metaphors used in music: As concisely as possible, this is it: music has intrinsic meaning of its own, which are not to be confused with specific feelings or moods, and certainly not with pictorial impressions or stories. These intrinsic musical meanings are generated by a constant stream of metaphors, all of which are forms of poetic transformations. (131) Bernstein seeks to prove that music has intrinsic, extrinsic and analogical meaning much the same way language does for non musical meanings. This manifested in the creation of the NUMMI plant, which was a joint effort between GM and Toyota, and the development of Saturn, a GM subsidiary that exclusively used the practices of lean production. At these factories, the adoption of lean production generally held the same benefits for American workers as it did with Japanese workers. Students will cut a large hole in piece of construction paper as frame for their face. On the boarder they will use physical and inner characteristics to describe themselves. They will partner with someone to add a feature they may have not used. As students learn to describe each, they get more familiar with the main character. Each book has multiple supporting characters, but only one main character. They will learn to focus attention in illustrations and print, to the character s actions and feelings, and how they change through the story. Once the students are familiar with each character, they can begin activities to compare and contrast the characters, their feelings, and their ideas. They will also analyze if the characters affected the traits or feelings of the main character. As each lesson is taught, centers are developed for small group and independent learning. Centers focus on student s interests and intelligences and go across the curriculum. After creating a list of traits for each character, students will sort traits on Smart Board and magnetic index cards. Often times when we hear the word intersexuals or hermaphrodites we automatically have a negative connotation towards them. However, what most people do not realize is that hermaphroditism is in fact very common for quite a long period of time. Records were dated back to even the time when Plato was alive. A notable case would be a woman named Emma who had grown up as a female with a vagina and a penis sized clitoris. As a teenager, Emma would have sexual intercourses with other women but eventually she married a man. Although she had a husband, there had not been too many sexual activities therefore Emma would have other girlfriends on the side to fulfill her pleasures. As an embryo, we are created with both ovaries and testes. As we grow, either the ovaries or testes will begin to develop further while the other will begin to degenerate (Fausto Sterling, 2000). However, often times the one that degenerates does not diminish the entire way, therefore making them ambiguous genitalia. Our medical community destroys our perception of hermaphrodites by telling us that hermaphroditism is very uncommon and should be treated as soon as birth because the victims would be psychologically damaged from bullying and being different (ISNA, 2001). Slowly but surely the waves pushed the mysterious being onto the shore. We dragged him over to the sand. Water began to sprout from his mouth like a newly dug up spring. The village was made up of only twenty odd wooden houses that had stone courtyards with no flowers and which were spread about on the end of a desert like cape. There was so little land that mothers always went about with the fear that the wind would carry off their children and the few dead that the years had caused among them had to be thrown off the cliffs. But the sea was calm and bountiful and all the men fitted into seven boats. So when we found the drowned man we simply had to look at one another to see that we were all there. That night the men did not work at sea. While the men went to find out if anyone was missing in neighboring villages, the women stayed behind to care for the drowned man. The woman took the mud off with grass swabs, they removed the underwater stones entangled in his hair, and washed him with soap and water. As they were doing that we noticed that the vegetation on him came from faraway oceans and that his clothes were in tatters, as if he had sailed through labyrinths of coral. But only when they finished cleaning him off did we become aware of the kind of man he was and it left them breathless. In the beginning of the American Revolution, most Native Americans wished to remain neutral but eventually sided with the British in hopes of preventing the American colonists from further appropriating their land. • 35. Regional Planning And Regional Development Strategies Regional planning literature, for instance Barca (2009) suggests that there are various strategies which can be used to stimulate development (regional/national) and these can be categorised into classes, including inter alia, place neutral and place based development strategies. This paper however, dwells much on the analysis of the arguments levelled in support of placed based development strategies as a recipe for regional development, with reference to Zimbabwe s provinces. By and large, development is a very broad and illusive concept hence there is no consensus among scholars as to what really constitutes development. Barca (2011) argues that place based development strategies or mechanisms are partially a response to the perceived failures of earlier regional development strategies and focus instead on tackling underutilised economic potential and reducing social exclusion, through supply of integrated goods and services tailored to local contexts and triggering innovation, which is critical to regional economic growth. In distinguishing place based development strategies from traditional development strategies, Barca (2011:221) argues that, place based approaches to regional development put greater emphasis on arguing that, the well being of each and every individual also depends on the context in which he or she lives . Critical to note however, is the fact that if regional development is to be effected in Zimbabwe s provinces, there is need to integrate place ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Principles of Communication Communication is an ever developing topic in which human beings can express their feelings and emotions on a daily basis whether they were positive or negative in the most suitable way.
