Landlord And Tenant Board Observation Report
Landlord and Tenant Board
Introduction:
This report is an observational summary of the Landlord and Tenant Board, located at 3 Robert Speck
Parkway Suite 520 Mississauga, Ontario L47 2G5. Throughout Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 and
Wednesday, January 27th, 2016, the Landlord and Tenant Board held many different cases.
The office building was in close proximity to a public bus stop, which had a route leading directly
from Brampton. The bus schedule operated every 9 minutes, and there were conveniently two
Brampton busses that lead into the location, the 502 and the 103. However if you were going everyday
it would become very costly. If you were someone, with a car, it would be simple to drive from
Brampton to Mississauga. Front entrance parking was easily accessible, but there was a cost for
parking, for the whole day it was $7.00, for an hour $5.25, for 40 minutes $3.50 and for 20 minutes
$1.75. As for the parking, it was more favourable to have your own source of transportation
nonetheless it could become pricey.
The building had front desk with a security guard who was able to direct you to the floor you needed
to go to. The Landlord and Tenant Board was located on the 5th floor, the Board Office had five
separate cubicles with secretaries that were able to help with various questions. The Board Office was
easy to find due to several signs on the wall. Overall, it was clean, quiet and orderly. The staff member
at the counter was very knowledgeable and helpful, at first

Common Core State Standards ( Ccss )
Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is a widely debatable topic. Parents, teachers, administration,
and even states have taken a stance on what they believe. CCSS is a document created by researchers,
teachers, administration, and even the public, stating exactly what each student in grades K 12 should
be accomplishing by the end of each level. It is ideally in place for teachers to have a clear
understanding of what students are expected to achieve and know by each benchmark test so they can
ensure this readiness. Though much thought and exertion has gone into the production and
implementation of these standards, many myths have been formulated from them, causing the
standards to sound as if they do not have any advantage to our schools ( Understanding the Common
Core ). Adopting common standards means bringing all states standards down to the lowest common
denominator. This means that states with high standards are actually taking a step backwards by
adopting the Common Core ( Utah Core Standards ). This is one of the biggest myths that branch from
common core. While this does seem reasonable to believe, it is false. The creators of the criteria
looked at the current standards nationally and globally to compose a list from the highest benchmarks
available. The new standards not only bring the lower states up, but those with the highest
expectations for their students have to bring their schooling to the next level with Common Core in
place. This provides the assurance

Artificial Intelligence In Nicholas Carr s Is Google...
The Advancement of Intelligence With every passing year, it seems as though humans are becoming
more attached to their electronic devices as technology advances at an astounding rate. As a result of
this, many people believe that the trade off for having such advanced technology is a decrease in
overall brain function, a point that is essentially what Nicholas Carr is arguing is true in his essay Is
Google Making Us Stupid?. However, a majority of Carr s argument lies in the fact that people do not
read as much because of the Internet, only want information directly given to them instead of having
to read through pages of words, and are becoming dangerously reliant on artificial intelligence.
However, based on the recent surge of technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, he bluntly says throughout his article that the Internet and search engines such as Google
are making us stupid . He goes on to explain how the rise of the internet is adverse to the intellectual
mind because it is starting to replace physical reading, and reading allows for intellectual vibrations to
be set off within the minds of the people (Carr 28). However, it clear to see that as technology evolves,
so does the world and its views on what is considered to be intellectual. While people may not be
reading as many physical books anymore, they do tend to educate themselves on the world around
them in other ways. Even on seemingly casual social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram,
people speak out about what they understand and feel about the world around them, showing how
intellectual vibrations are now set off differently than in years past. A technology press conference, a
controversial social media post, or a compelling article from an online news source could get a person
to deeply think about something just any form of physical print would be able to; this is made evident
by how the younger generations are currently using the Internet and its sites. In fact, Carr even quotes
an Italian humanist by the name of Hieronimo Squarciafico who stated that the introduction of the
Gutenberg printing press and readily available publications would make men less studious (28).
However, the introduction of readily available literature has proven to have had the opposite effect,
with the most studious of people accepting books and other printed publications as some of their most
treasured intellectual resources. In the same way, a parallel can be drawn to the Internet, which will
likely turn out to be a blessing for intellectuals around the world just as the printing press was all those
years ago. With knowledge and

Dolores Liquor Observation
On 01/07/2017 at approximately 2258 hours, while patrolling the town of Dolores, I observed two
males at the front door of the Dolores Liquor Store located at 202 South 3rd Street, Town of Dolores,
County of Montezuma, State of Colorado.
Dolores Liquor store is located on the corner of Railroad Avenue and 3rd Street. The front door faces
east and is the only customer access. There are two doors at the front that are recessed into the
building and covered. The north door accesses the liquor store and the south door access the office but
is not utilized.
The Dolores Liquor Store was closed for business and I did not observe any vehicles in the parking

Isabelle Boyce explained that on today s date, they realized that a security camera located at the front
of the store was damaged and after reviewing their surveillance, determined that the camera was in
working order until 01/07/2017 at 2250 hours.
I responded to the Dolores Liquor store at approximately ** hours and spoke with Isabelle Boyce. She
stated that they contacted the security company for assistance in downloading the captured
surveillance footage. I viewed the surveillance and observed three individuals walk in the area and to
the Dolores Liquor Store at approximately 2238 hours. While walking southeast toward the building,
one of the males looks toward the camera. He appears to be wearing khaki colored jeans and a hooded
jacket. The jacket appears to have blue sleeves, a large blue pocket located directly in front of the
jacket and extends for both hands and the chest portion of the jacket appears to be patterned with
words across the chest. He also appears to be wearing yellow in color skater style shoes. At
approximately 2255 hours, the male appears to now have a white covering over his jacket and face
and while utilizing a large wood object resembling a wooden dowel, he approaches the camera and
smashes the camera. I took digital photographs of the male but the images are distorted and not clear.

History Of Social Norms
Social norms have been shaping the way people interact throughout history. While norms could be
seen as something that confides behavior, it also maintains social order allowing certain behaviors to
be accepted or to be evaded. The way people respond to a situation depends on the person s normative
beliefs or what they believe society should act.
A normative belief is a person or a group of people believe what behavior is appropriate and
inappropriate in a given social context. However, George C. Homans stated: Norms are just shared
beliefs; they are not the behavior itself, but what people think behavior ought to be (Standford). A
person may see one behavior completely outlandish while the person acting out sees it as something
normal.

Wal Mart Vs. K Mart
Wal Mart vs. K Mart Introduction of the Wal Mart Company A megacorporation with sales that
consistently rank it as the number one or number two publicly traded company in the United States
and in the world, Wal Mart has impacted wage rates, prices, and economies on a local, national, and
global scale. It is arguably the world s most important privately controlled economic institution. It not
only has no rivals, it actually influences the prices set by its suppliers and has often seemed
impervious to challenge, let alone accountability (Fishman 6). A company focused on the motto Save

It all began in his late 20s, having no background knowledge in retailing at all, as he opened up his
very first variety store entitled Walton s Five and Dime. It was right then and there that Walton began
to offer low prices compared to the other businesses in the local area. His idea of offering low prices
surprisingly worked and he soon found himself venturing out and purchasing 15 variety stores all
located around the central area by 1960. Everyone in town thought Sam was nuts for taking such a
serious risk on drastically cutting back prices, but Sam never felt the least bit worried about his
strategy. In 1962, the first Wal Mart opened its doors, along with two other well known discounting
chains, K Mart and Woolco. Sam stood his ground and before he knew it 18 Wal Marts were officially
up and operating smoothly and successfully in two states. The rest is simply history. Wal Mart s
Corporate Culture Every successful business or company must have developed a strong corporate
culture in order to be successful in what they do. In Wal Mart s case, profit is the goal, but service is
the process ( Corporate Culture 20). While Wal Mart began as a discounted variety store, the company
has transformed into having Wal Mart Supercenters, Wal Mart Neighborhood Markets, and Sam s
Clubs across the world. Many Americans today are very familiar with Wal Mart Supercenters, but not

The Epidemic Of Influenza And Influenza
People are dying every second to a variety of reasons, some that could be prevented others where that
is not the case. However, experts agree that influenza and influenza related deaths could be
significantly prevented if people took the influenza vaccine annually. The influenza virus is a deadly
virus that has been killing people since the 1900s; in 1918 the first recorded epidemic of a strain of
influenza known as the Spanish flu killed approximately 50 million people ( Pandemic Flu History ).
Because people did not know what the virus was or how to fight against it, it spread very fast.
However, after the vaccine was made, later epidemics such as the 1957, 1968, and 2009 epidemics
were not as fatal, killing approximately one million people worldwide. Vaccines played a large role in
human history in fighting and preventing diseases from annihilating human beings. This paper will
discuss the economic aspects of whether it should be mandatory for hospital health care workers to
take the flu vaccine. Paula Sullivan, a seasoned nurse practitioner, discusses how influenza is an
infectious disease that takes place in temperate regions around the world which results in
approximately the death of 500,000 people annually worldwide; 226,000 people get hospitalized and
36,000 die from influenza annually in the United States alone (Sullivan). Most of the people who die
from the influenza virus are aged 65 years or older and that is usually because other diseases are

Family Stereotypes
The first images show my mother carrying me as a baby girl on our way home from the hospital, and
while cooking. These images represents my ideas and beliefs because I believe that it is important for
newborn babies to be very close to their parents, especially the mother. This also represents the beliefs
of my community because most Congolese people expect the mother to be the closest, primary
caregiver of a baby. Their function is to show that I was raised in a loving home with loving parents
who took, and continues to care for me and my needs. This images symbolize the unbreakable bond,
and love of my mother and I. In both pictures, I was not crying, and that means that I felt safe, and I

life, and I made my parents proud of me. The images show me celebrating this important milestone
with my family who were there to support me. A few of my siblings are also pictured. Family has
always been important for me, I have nine siblings, and I have two parents. I considered my life overly
blessed because of my family, they are my source of strength and support; I do not think that I would
be here today without them. These images portray the beliefs and ideas of American Culture because
most important achievements or events are always celebrated with family, whether it is thanksgiving
or a wedding. Family is always there, and that makes whatever is being celebrated more special. It is a
ritual for my family to celebrate together every big events. These pictures deliver a message of support
and pride because although, I was the one who graduated, all of my siblings were happy for me as if
they were the ones graduating. The red cap and gown were my regalia or costume of the night. It is a
ritual for students in America to wear their school s color during the graduation ceremony. It was very
important for me to wear my regalia because it represented my high school s colors red, and for my
high school the color red symbolizes the word service . Not only did my red regalia show my
achievement, but it also my pride as a Central High School

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Homeschooling
Introduction
Education plays significant role in the life of everyone. It is obvious that good education will influence
the future and strong foundation is the first step in building it. Iimmediately after birth, child begins to
receive knowledge, an education from his family, from his home, because home considers as the
foundation of all human institutions. After that it comes to make a choice whether to send him to study
to the ordinary school or not to send. Some parents try to homeschool their child due to the different
reasons, however others against of homeschooling because of its disadvantages. Therefore we will
discuss about the advantages and disadvantages of homeschooling and its impact on child education
and development.

Well Rested children. Researchers are show that sleep is crucial to the physical and emotional well
being of children especially during studying. The early morning classes might be devastating to many
kids, particularly those individuals who are not morning people.
8. No Busywork. For homeschooled children no need to wait others or repeat until other classmates
will understand the material, they can save their time and complete in a few hours what usually takes
usual classroom a week or sometimes more to cover.
Even homeschooling has that kind of positive effects; it also has disadvantages makes some parents
worry about them. For example:
1. Homeschooling considers as a hard work for the parents, planning the course of instruction, making
own schedule is not easy. It takes time that parent may be sometimes needs to use for another
important things. Also the teaching process itself needs time and accuracy, organizing all these
processes will be impossible especially for those families who have many children.
2. Homeschooling might be one of the reasons for financial stress. When all responsibility for buying
books and other things needed for study process lies on parents

Analysis Of Sherwood Anderson s Hands
Sherwood Anderson Hands is a short story written by Sherwood Anderson. The action takes place
during the 1890s in Winesburg, Ohio, however, the writer takes you back to Pennsylvania for the
reader to understand the background of the story. The tone of the writer is serious. Hands deals with
the psychological trauma suffered by Adolph Myers, who later adopts the name of Wing Biddlebaum
after being driven out of his town in Pennsylvania by false accusations. I think we can see how
emotionally hurt and mentally disturbed Biddlebaum is. When Willard asks him about his hands;
Biddlebaum gets upset and remembers his students. You hear them talk and you try to imitate them.
He made the use of the word imitate probably because his students jumped in the bandwagon of
accusing him. Here and there went his hands, caressing the shoulders of the boys, playing about the
tousled heads. When I first started reading about how caring he was for the boys, I suspected
immediately of him. But the truth is that Adolph Myers didn t have bad intentions. The touching of the
hair were a part of the schoolmaster s effort to carry a dream into the young minds. What I dislike is
the injustice committed by these parents and the people from the town. Instead of digging deeper to
find out the truth they decided to blame him when there was a lack of evidence to support the facts.
Things are not always what they look like and we should we careful of the things we say. It has been

International Relations And American Foreign Policy
International Relations and American Foreign Policy are both strong qualities that help define America
as a nation. Not only that, but a strong nation that has the reputation to not be trifled with. The concept
of International Relations is so much broader than most will ever know and be aware of. It is such a
vast field that almost anything can fall under it. However, there are four main qualities of our foreign
policy and international relations that define the process, and that is statesmanship, military and war,
international economic policy, and cultural exchange. These four are the core parts of International
Relations and America s Foreign Policy.
Statesmanship is basically the ability, qualifications, and practice of managing public affairs. The three
most important qualities of statesmanship are a vision, a moral compass, and the wisdom to execute.
Aristotle believed that statesmanship was for the betterment of the community. As the city state comes
first, there obviously needs to be a vision for the community, a moral compass to follow and the
wisdom of determining and making the execution of that plan. Statesmanship helps lead a country to
greatness. The Bible also has its own spin of statesmanship. For example, Proverbs 21:3 says, To do
righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. This verse alone shows that the
essence of politics is not separated from morality. That is one reason why a moral compass is one of
the most important

Personal Vision Statement Examples
Personal vision statements usually deal with career, education, weight, or maybe with relationships.
Sometimes it also deals with personal development such as to socialize more, to be less selfish, etc.
Here are some personal vision statement examples which you can go through.
Example 1
January 2015, I am standing outside my new room at the Oxford University campus, UK, seeing who
my room mate will be. Yes! It s Darla, my best friend since high school. We are staying together. I am
jumping with joy! Oooooh! I am so happy.
Example 2
September 2010. I ranked first in class today. The entire class gave me a standing ovation. My parents
are standing near the door, shedding tears of joy.
Now that you have got a hint as to what personal vision statement actually is all about, let us now see
some corporate vision statement examples.
Corporate Vision Statement Examples
The vision statement of the corporate companies is quite different from personal vision statements.
They deal more with targets of the entire company rather than with the individual targets. Their main

Animal Rights For Animals
George Bernard Shaw once said, the worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to
be indifferent to them: that s the essence of inhumanity. The issue of giving animals rights has dated
back to the ancient Greek in Romans. They believed that people who died who be reborn in a new life
as an animal. This issue has date since sixth century B.C.E until now. As of now the biggest
controversy was the seaworld case involving their interaction with the orcas that had been the stars of
their park. There were many other cases and the issue soon began to escalate as the number of injuries
and occasional deaths increased. Once the problems go to court a decision of removing the exhibit was
the best way to decrease injury by no longer creating contact with the animals. The United States
should create a set of rights for animals in the entertainment industry in order to give those animals
proper treatment. The film documentary Blackfish discusses the issues with Seaworld s orca exhibit
and they expose all the problems and issues that orca s experience after the show. During the
documentary multiple trainers and seaworld employees who captured the orcas for the shows came to
a realization. This is a multi billion dollar corporation that makes its money through the exploitation of
Orcas. The cruelty in their methods of capturing showed in the whales and how they were separated
from their real families and would release the anger on trainers. All the orcas had to

Hostage Film Techniques
In the 2005 neo noir film Hostage, directed by Florent Emilio Siri, Chief of police Jeff Dailey helps
negotiate with three hostage keepers to save his own family and two kids. The thrill seeking, crime
plot is executed very intelligently and you can t often infer what will happen next. The darkness of the
lighting, darkness of humanity, darkness of the setting, visual motifs and archetypes are all elements
of this film that shape it into a neo noir style. All of these different elements illustrate a neo noir style
film and help us better understand the plot. The darkness of the lighting is very important in creating
the neo noir film style in Hostage. The movie has many outdoor night scenes and the dark lighting is

Visual motifs are defined as irregular placed objects, objects in the foreground, vertical/horizontal
lines, water and claustrophobic devices. A visual motif used often in this film is the shadows of the
curtains creating horizontal lines on the actors/actresses. When the chief goes into a house to
investigate, it s all dark inside so the sunlight from the window makes the blinds create shadows on
him. During the interrogation phone call with the chief and the hostage holders, the hostage holders
are standing in front of a waterfall like decoration and the vertically running water is a strong visual
motif here. The vents throughout the house are used as claustrophobic devices and create a strong dark
mood and are a clever visual motif. Like the vents are used to show the darkness of humanity because
of their entrapment, they re also used as a claustrophobic device. When the kids are running through
the vents and being chased, the vents show how trapped they really are because in a vent system there
s nowhere to go. The claustrophobic device helps because you can really see the freight in their faces.
The visual motifs are used very intelligently in this film and they re one more reason as to why it s a
neo noir style

The Importance Of The Japanese American Internment
My priority was to try to show the American people that we are just as loyal as anybody else. We need
to prove our loyalty because the reason why we re in camp is because the American public says that
we are enemy aliens. Were loyalty to Japan and so forth. And that perceptions got to be changed.
Susumu Satow. This statement is very powerful stating we need to show the American people we are
not your enemies but your friends. Do not be scared of us just because we are Japanese. Prejudice
played a large role in the Japanese American relocation because of the 1894 treaty, conflict over
China, and the Russian Japanese War. The Japanese were never awarded for their bravery going into
those internment camps. They were spit on and called names. Imagine being in that situation of hatred.
Japanese American relationships were strained (during the)years before World War II. One of the
reasons the United States and Japan did not get along was in 1894 when a treaty was signed allowing
Japanese Immigrants into America allowing them the same rights as US citizens. In 1906, this treaty
was violated when the San Francisco Board of Education passed a provision sending Japanese and
Chinese children to segregated schools. This movement angered the Japanese Government because it
violated the treaty. In late 1907 and into early 1908, letters were exchanged between the United States
and Japan known as the Gentlemen s agreement . The Gentlemen s Agreement was for the US
government to

Role Of Economics On Political Change
I also used interpolation to impute missing data for many of my independent variables. Interpolation
can reduce the ability of an independent variable to explain a dependent variable by reducing the
movement of the dependent variable (Allison 2001). Interpolation is comparable to replacing the
actual data with a trend. You don t expect the trend to explain short term movements in the dependent
variable as well as the actual data. Future Research The findings of this study produce puzzling
conclusions. Moving forward, researchers should look at the role of economics on political change in
the South at a more local level. A mixed methods approach is most appropriate for this future research
because it would allow for interviews with local party leaders to guide the statistical analyses. Also,
most people are citizens of a community and less so citizens of a state, so those people should be
better able to notice the economic change on a community level instead of a state level. One particular
problem with doing research at the county level is that often data is not available at the county level.
Some of these issues are solved using multilevel modeling, but a statistical fix does not cure the
absence of data. One of the interesting findings of this project concerned the role of turnout in
affecting party strength. There are several ways forward. For example, it is possible that turnout drove
changes outside of the South. This seems unlikely because the South had such anemic

The Tylenol Crisis

there were no evidences or records of any other similar problem, neither in the pharmaceutical

Tylenol was one of the most spectacular success stories in the pharmaceutical industry, because in

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Single Parenting...
A single parent could feel like a mouse racing on a wheel, where she/he is continually running, trying
to maintain a proper household and raise healthy children. This is a statement from Victoria
Thompson. I do believe in this statement because for me single parents, unlike the married couple, are
having a hard time in dividing their time with their work and taking good care of their kids. So, single
parenting faces more disadvantages like the experience of economic hardship, negative judgment of
the community and the psychological effects on rearing children that make the family and relation
cycle really complicated.
Single parenting is about having a child without living with a partner or spouse. In historical events,
the major reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, their children may suffer bullying because of having only one parent. This can affect the
children s way of living. Kids who are bullied can experience negative physical, school, and mental
health issues. The child will not be able to do what he wants because he will be afraid to socialize with
other children. Second, a child with a single parent can compare their selves to the other children who
have married parents. A child may feel envious about not having a father/mother to guide him/her.
According to Paul R. Amato, Children living with single parents are exposed to more stressful
experiences and circumstances than being children living with continuously married parents. This
statement proves that single parents are having a hard time raising their children. Lastly, the children
living with a single parent can have a hard time expressing their feelings. Children who don t see or
feel the act of love between his/her parent can have a hard time expressing their feelings with other
person. Due to unseen acts of love, the child may be confused on how he/she will show their feelings
with other person. So instead of showing it, they are going to hide their feeling with their self

Community Nursing Plan Paper
Community partners are very important to hosting a community health day focused on hypertension
(HTN). Self management of HTN comes with a high personal and economic cost (Patros, Schlomann,

people within their community, by funding events aimed at reducing HTN health risk. A community
effort is needed to achieve the goal of healthy people 2010, which is to increase the proportion of
adults with high blood pressure whose blood pressure is controlled from 25% to 68% (Patros et al.,

Head Start Law Research Paper
Teachers are in the news almost every day. Sometimes for good reasons and sometimes for bad
reasons. One article I found in the news was one about the Head Start law. This law was created by
George W. Bush. It required teachers to have a bachelor s degree with training in early childhood
education. 74% of all teachers in the Head Start program have their bachelor s degree and training in
early childhood education. A problem with this back in 2007 was that the law did not fund a college or
university to help train the teachers for the program. Today, there are many places where teachers can
go to get this training. The program has lessons that help the teachers to boost their skills and
knowledge about early childhoods. For younger children

The Plea Bargain Is A Vital Part Of The Criminal Justice...
The plea bargain is a vital part of the criminal justice system today. Before the 1800s when an offender
was caught there would be a trial and verdict. The plea bargain are for defendant s to plead guilty to a
lesser offense or to at least one charge especially if there are multiple indictments. Defendants will
plead guilty in hopes of leniency, and at least 90 percent of criminal cases end in a plea bargains. A
majority of criminal cases in many jurisdictions will end in a plea bargaining. In the case North
Carolina v. Alford, Mr. Alford is accused of Capital murder. The penalty for a guilty plea is
imprisonment for life, however, if the defendant pleads innocent and the jury rules him guilty the
death penalty attaches. Prior to the trial, Mr. Alford accepted a plea bargain. The bargaining requires
him to plead guilty to murder in the second degree, the penalty of which is 30 years.
Later on Alford does appeals his case, stating that his agreement to the bargain was involuntary as it
was driven by fear of the death penalty. Mr. Alford s conviction was overturned however, the Supreme
Court states that a guilty plea is a voluntary decision and is not compelled within his Fifth Amendment
rights of Self Incrimination. In a 6 to 3 decision, the Court then reverses the appeal and reinstates his
conviction. This is a great example of how the option of plea bargaining continues to be controversial.
This case shows how plea bargaining can work both in favor and negatively

Perestroika And Glasnost
How Perestroika/Glasnost Helped the Dissolution of the Soviet Union
Perestroika and glasnost played an important part in shaping today s Russia by its role in the
dissolution of the U.S.S.R. Perestroika was the reconstruction of the Communist party and the
economy, which Mikhail Gorbachev thought would fix the economic mess he came into. Perestroika
also loosened government control over individual enterprises and businesses. Gorbachev also
introduced glasnost which released government information and allowed more people to openly give
their opinion about the Soviet government. In the book Russia s Sputnik Generations by Donald

What Is Formative And Summative Assessment
Introduction
Assessment can be the engine of curriculum reform, or the principal impediment to its implementation
(Mary Barnes, 2000) is a thought which is of great debate in the Republic of Ireland today. Education
and curriculum are constantly evolving and often assessment gets left behind. The relationship
between student learning and an effective curriculum lies in the power of the assessment. One cannot
thrive without the other, and one cannot be entirely effective unless the other is equally as effective.
In this assignment I will explore the types of assessment, particularly formative and summative
assessment which are used worldwide in the classroom. As well as the history of assessment in
Ireland, the newest junior cycle programme and finally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research has shown that formative assessment is effective in all educational settings (Paul Black,
1998).One major difference between formative assessment and summative assessment is the way in
which formative assessment uses student involvement as an integral pillar. Without student
involvement in the assessment process, formative assessment is not reaching its full potential. Many
research papers have shown that student motivation is dramatically increased when students are
involved in both their own learning and in the learning of others (Pintrich de Groot, 1990).Teachers,
however, do not have a sit back role in formative assessment. They are still crucial to the proper use of
this assessment by ways of designing appropriate assessment tasks, identifying attainable learning
goals and outlining clear criteria for student success. One key factor in formative assessment is the
return of feedback to students. Many studies have shown that substantial learning gains are the
outcome of an effective and frequent feedback process from teacher to student (Wiliam,

Comparison Of Solar Declares And The Solar Cycle
A problem that may affect you in the future are solar flares and the solar cycle. Solar flares and
sunspots can interrupt radio frequencies, transmissions, and everything electronic. This could cause
prodigious problems and send the world into anarchy. Solar flares are high energy explosions that
radiate through space. They are sometimes called CME s, which stands for coronal mass ejection.
Solar flares are measured by the maximum flux of their X rays. The scale consists of grade A, B, C,
M, X flares. A is the weakest level and X is the strongest. This scale is similar to the Richter scale for
measuring earthquakes. The most recent solar flare that was considered X rated occurred in 2011,
according to (Science Daily.)
A sunspot is a result of a solar flare. Sunspots occur when there is a magnetic disturbance on the
surface of the sun, which causes a cooler temperature of the gases then the ones around it. A solar flare
is an explosion of plasma on the surface of the sun. Both sunspots and solar flares cause electrical

Since solar flares interrupt electrical lines and towers, you can buy an off the grid generator to supply
your building with power. Investing in surge protectors can help protect your appliances power boards
from being fried. Another way to protect major electricity and communication lines is to make them
more material based and not as vulnerable. NASA has built a large solar shield to protect their power
grids from solar activity. These function as mirrors and are repositioned as the CME travels towards
Earth.
To conclude, solar flares are a threat to the existence of technology on earth. They could cause vast
problems on Earth, however there are things we can do to protect and prevent against these solar
flares. Solar flares are no need to worry too much about, as the odds of them hitting Earth are very

Cultural Identity In Toni Morrison s White Teeth
In matters of race, silence and evasion have historically ruled literary discourse, says Toni Morrison in

this as Zadie Smith brings the matter right into the open, shedding new light on problems of race and
assimilation. The novel investigates post colonial European culture and society through the use of
compelling immigrant characters who are struggling with their cultural identities. The main drama

Effects of the Industrial Meat Indutry
Introduction
This day in age we have heard so many rumors of how factory slaughter cattle farms are actually ran.
Many people assume all beef cattle are kept outside in fields. But, this is not always the case. This
paper is to serve to somewhat get a clearer picture of what really happens within a cattle slaughter
house. In every phase of development within a factory slaughter farm, animals suffer needless changes
and restricted, narrowed living conditions. Not only are the animals being affected by diseases or
stress, but we too are being affected just as much. When the farms dump fesses on lands it will make
its way into our water and air supply leaving behind pesticides and toxins affecting our immune
systems. Scientists have linked animal stress to problems with food quality and safety (Animal
Welfare). Like any human that suffers from stress and anxiety can be diagnosed with any sorts of
illness, the same circumstances can happen to an animal when it is subjected to stress and pain, the
animal is prone to disease and can produce lower quality meat, and milk. In this case the cattle being
exposed to stress their milk and meat will have a lower quality. I personally have come face to face
with a pig factory, which I do not believe it is any different from a cattle factory. Just being able to see
firsthand what a slaughter house looks like is very sad. The pigs that were in the farm were mostly
females, they lived in a pin that was big enough for the pig to stand up

From a woman s point of view, she looks as if she has reached her breaking point. Trying to stay
strong, her emotions overwhelm her while she dances and it becomes a little too much for her. A cry
for help is upon her. Her hair is also free and in a mess; normally when ballerinas perform their hair is
nice tight and in a bun. Her muscle so defined, and still pale as if she had seen a ghost. You can tell a
lot of work has been put into achieving the body she has. It stands out with the white, flowy, soft

appearance is everythings, and how they dance. From facial features to silhouette, even down to their

Effects Of Discrimination And Minority Stress
Discrimination and Minority Stress As stated earlier previous studies have reported decreased
resilience among LGBA+ populations, however, it is important to note that identifying, as LGBA+
does not inherently cause the distress that is the source of poorer levels of mental health and
resilience. Instead, it is a reaction the previously stated statistics representing shocking levels of
exposure to discrimination, which also take the form of microaggressions. Micro aggressions are
aimed at minority groups and are a form of assault that can exist in a variety of forms either verbal or
nonverbal, as well as be intentional or unintentional on behalf of the perpetrator. Microaggressions
have previously been linked to increased mental health difficulties in the form of increased anxiety in
African American University Students (Smith, Allen, Danley, 2007). As individuals worldwide of
multiple ethnicities, ages, religiosity, and able bodiedness may identify as LGBA+, taking into
account, this intersectionality and how it impacts on resilience is necessary to our understanding of
LGBA+ populations. An individual who identifies both as a sexual minority and as an ethnic minority
may have the effects of such discrimination and micro aggressions compounded resulting in overall
poorer resilience as the stressors experienced an increase (Balsam, Molina, Beadnell, Simoni, Walters,
2011). The Intersectionality between ethnicity and sexual identity also has a clear impact on social

St Augustine Function Of Memory
Mikayla Canifax
Dr.Charara
Final Discussion Paper
Memory: A Memoir
Saint Augustine is plagued by a vigorous sexual appetite and a yearning to absolve his sins. He writes
of his most significant life events and his journey back to God in Confessions. He struggles to believe
the most commonly accepted facts of religion and through logic comes to an understanding of God s
role in man. As he looks back on his past, Augustine reveals the sinful nature of his actions and finds
his way back home to God. However, I contend that Augustine s Confessions serve not only himself in
the way of repentance and homecoming, but also serve in aiding future generations in their quest to
wholeness. Through his confession, the function of memory is revealed as it s used to serve multiple
purposes, persons, and philosophies, suggesting that memory is not an unchanging flashback rather a
fluid recollection. As he recalls his life story, Augustine is repenting to God. He details his sins and
takes responsibility for his wrongdoings. Augustine is trying to find closure within himself and his
relationship with God, as his heart is restless until it rests in (God) (I,i). He s trying to find his way
back home. In this way, Confessions functions as an apology to God and illustrates Augustine s inner
growth. He details how his confusion seized hold of my youthful weakness sweeping me through the
precipitous rocks of desire to submerge me in a whirlpool of vice (II,ii). As he unearths his past acts

Essay on Two Party System in Democracy

A two party system is a form of party system where two major political parties dominate voting in
nearly all elections. As a result, all, or nearly all, elected offices end up being held by candidates
chosen by one of the two major parties. Under a two party system, one of the two parties typically
holds a majority in the legislature and is usually referred to as the majority party while the other is the

A two party system is strong and influential although it allows lesser parties to exist and have an

systems. The Two party sytem has advantages and disadvantages they consist of: Advantages,: It can
lead to political stability which leads, in turn, to economic growth, two party systems have been seen
as preferable to multi party systems because they are simple to govern, while multi party systems can
sometimes lead to parliament. The disadvantages: Two party systems have been criticized extreme
views, and putting a second opinion on debate within a nation, two party systems for fail to provide
enough options since only two choices are permitted on the ballot, the problem with having only two
parties is that the nation loses the ability for things to bubble up from the body politic and give voice
to things that aren t being voiced by the major parties. Multi party governments permit wider and
more diverse viewpoints in government, and encourage dominant parties to make deals with weaker
parties to form winning coalitions. I think having a two party system is ideal because neither major
party is strong enough to win without bringing up specific topics that they believe in or their ideology
of their party. The way the Republicans and Democrats present

Chemotaxis Lab Report
Genetic interference of Caenorhabditis Elegans within the process of Chemotaxis Abstract For the
majority of animals on earth, responding to chemical stimuli could mean the difference between life
and death. Taste is an example of sensing chemical stimuli however, this response is not entirely
dependent on genes, as tasting something will not necessarily trigger a gene to activate. Within a
simpler organism however, such as Caenorhabditis Elegans, there is a complex behavior that is
mediated by three sensory neurons and transduce chemical stimuli to move muscles that move an
animal forward(attraction) or backwards(repulsion). By placing these organisms on several plates
which will inhibit genetic expression, and then testing chemotaxis at a later point, it is possible to
determine which genes are responsible for chemotaxis. The global sample averages of the chemotaxis
indexes of CEH 36 and CEH 27 are somewhat inconclusive, with a mean of 0.5815 for CEH 36 and
0.6981 for CEH 27. Overall, the results for CEH 27 are likely to show that there is a lack of genetic
interference with chemotaxis where CEH 36 is less definitive. Introduction Within C. Elegans, there
are three primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, once comparing the data to larger sample sizes, interfering with CEH 36 expression did not
have a role in chemotaxis instead the data showed an average of 0.5818. Therefore, more
experimentation will be necessary in order to determine the role CEH 36 plays in chemotaxis.
Acknowledgements I would like to say thank you to Courtney Cochran, my lab instructor and to the
UCSB Biology department for the time taken in order to ensure accurate results. Another round of
thanks goes to Emile Laroche, my lab partner who aided me in data collection and procedure.

Rich s Philosophies
Rich 18
Every person has his own philosophy which ultimately guides him through each day. If a person
believes in basic moralities, such as not lying, cheating or stealing, then his actions will project his
beliefs. If one does not agree with these moralities then his actions will oppose the actions of those
who do. People?s philosophies are often guided by how they were raised as children and how their
mind processes information. Situations and events, positive or negative, can change how a person sees
the world which affects the philosophy that they live by. A Christian?s philosophy is found in the
Bible. The Bible is the Word of God which reveals how man came into existence, man?s purpose on
earth and even some of God?s plan for the future. The Bible is God?s primary tool that He uses to
show His love and guide a Christian through his life. All religions have some sort of god or figure that
is worshipped. Out of all the false gods, none can compare to the God of the Bible. He is the one ...

A legion of God?s angels became prideful of God and allowed that pride to consume them. Their
desire to be like God in power and authority caused them to fall away from Him. Ultimately forcing
God to cast the rebellious angels out of Heaven. Satan, a fallen angel, came to the earth in the form of
a serpent and tempted Adam and Eve in the same way he was tempted. God Specifically told Adam
and Eve not to eat of the tree in the middle of the garden (Genesis 3:3), but Satan told them that if they
were to eat of the tree they would be like God. Adam and Eve?s desire to be like God caused them to
eat the fruit of the tree in which they were commanded not to. Romans 5:12 says ?just as through one
man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men? (NKJV). Because
Adam gave into temptation, he became a bondservant to sin and caused all men to be liable to the
punishment of death (?I. The Origin of

Similarities Between Napoleon And Snowball And The Russian...
How did the characters of Napoleon and Snowball fill in the gap between reality and imagination with
a focused scope on Stalin and Trotsky?
The Introduction
The leading historians told us so much information about the Russian Revolution starting from the
appearance of the new ideologies related to people like Carl Marx, many changes happened to the
Soviet society so that no one could predict what was going to happen. The dilemma was based on the
fact that many changes happened to the different classes of the Soviet society starting from the leading
class to the poorest one.
The Discussion of the Question of the Study
Many people in Russia who used to live in the basements during the Tsar Era had become living in the
upper rooms of the Tsar palaces. Everything had come upside down.
There are other changes related to the ideologies that moved life in Russia. These ideologies had been
gathered in a way or another under the slogan of communism . It seemed to be good for the Soviet
society in Russia as well but the consequences prove to be wrong.
Stalin was supposed the real leader who should implement the rules of communism but just like
Napoleon, he was the first to break these rules. Stalin used to live in a very luxurious life while the
Russian people were working and working and dying! The analogy between this reality and the ...

His greatest adversary was Trotsky, whom he battled on the direction that the revolution should now
go. Trotsky wanted to spread the revolution around the world as Marx had predicted. Stalin argued
that the Party must protect and rebuild Russia first. By using his supporters, and creating deals with
other powerful members of the party, Stalin was able to push Trotsky out of the Party in 1925. Trotsky
was exiled to Siberia as punishment, and ultimately exiled out of the country. Fifteen years later, Stalin
had his secret police assassinate Trotsky in

Gender Roles In Rebecca Solnit s Cassandra Amongst The...
Hysteria derives from the greek work uterus. That notion refers to women everywhere having to live
by the myth of gender roles. Most of the time these stereotypes turn into name calling which result in
a harassment of words sticking long enough to the point where it s deemed as normal. The
significance of that myth by people who endure verbal attacks correlates to how the rest of the crowd
then perceives the judged. The consequences that follow are in the form of reputation creating these
social norms that are unfair. In the tale Cassandra Amongst the Creeps, author Rebecca Solnit
exemplifies the topic of how myths create social norms with the setting stone story of the goddess
denying a Gods sexual request. As a result the curse of disbelief and tainted credibility of women was
made normal as that myth stayed alive throughout history even to this day. In conjunction to Solnit,
Lauren Holmes author of Barbara the Slut exhibits the modern setting of a high school to portray how
impactful perception and credibility derived from that myth are. Both authors entertain how certain
attitudes perpetuate future problems that can destroy characters esteem. Barbara s scarred credibility
was in result of other people s false conscious of her character. Barbara the Slut s story represents the
meaning of Solnit s belief of myth changing reality by exhibiting how women s sexuality is tied to
perception, and how that perception changes individual s credibility and reputation.

The Samson Option Presents A Compelling Political Thriller
THE SAMSON OPTION presents as a compelling political thriller. The plot offers smart story
choices and convincing moral decisions that generate tense moments.
The plotline centers on the idea of a biological attack on the US that could trigger a devastating
nuclear world war. It s a relevant and realistic plot for a film. The hook is the idea that anyone could
use the Samson Option, which would trigger a devastating nuclear attack that could destroy countries.
It s a genuine fear. The crisis is presented as being very believable and authentic.
There are many smart and clever story plot choices, including an interesting female heroine as the
newly sworn in US President. Not only is she a female, but she s also Jewish, which adds a ... Show

Thus, while there s a lot to really admire and get excited about in this script, there are areas to revisit.
First, the opening sequences set up the world of Sara Mann (last name has nice subtext man ). She
wins a Nobel Prize for Peace, which provides clever irony. The preparing of the attack provides for
nice anticipation and suspense, but when the mist begins to billow out, try to build more anticipation
show it, but no one sees it and then eventually it s discovered. Right now, it happens too quickly when
Aadil begins shouting.
The idea of the US President and the fundraiser is a bit confusing. One isn t sure if this is in a different
location or where it s taking place. It would be nice to foreshadow the US President introduce him. If
the audience likes him, then his death will have a stronger emotional impact.
The main note is regarding the motivation for both Soule and Rapp to conspire against the US. It s
simply challenging to follow and it feels too convenient that both were conspiring. It s not clear if they
were working together or not.
Normally, in a political thriller the person who is a traitor has a close relationship with the
hero/heroine. Neither Rapp nor Soule seems close to the heroine.
Basically, it s difficult to understand their motivations. One reason for this may be the fact that the
script relies heavily on dialogue versus visual storytelling or action. When there s so much dialogue
and so many conversations they can be

Muslim Women Essay
The American media has a tendency to portray Muslims in a negative light. Some pity Muslims while
others feel pure disdain for them. This statement made by Ann Coulter (2001) following the
September 11th terrorist attacks demonstrates the disdain for Muslims, We should invade their
countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity (as cited in Arab American National
Museum, 2011). While this particular statement was directed at all Muslims, there are also many
misconceptions directed solely at Muslim women. In this essay, I will discuss the issue of Muslim
women and some of the ways in which their reality contradicts the common media representations of
women in that area. The first common media representation of ... Show more content on

A second common assumption of the Muslim women is that they are forced into marriage. While it is
true that arranged marriages do still take place in the Muslim world, the marriages are not forced upon
anyone (Ahmed, 1999). Before an arranged marriage takes place, parents and older relatives discuss
different possible matches, but the person, for whom they are searching a mate, is always involved in
the discussions (Ahmed, 1999). Then before the marriage can take place, both future spouses must
agree to the marriage in front of witnesses (Ahmed, 1999). A third common media stereotype of
Muslim women is that their sole purpose is to please their husbands. Geraldine Brooks author of the
book, Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women wrote that Muslim women are
expected to sacrifice their comfort and freedom to service the requirements of male sexuality; either to
repress or stimulate the male sex urge (as cited in Arab American National Museum, 2011). This
stereotype is heightened by the fact that Islam allows polygamy. While Islam does allow men to take
four wives, it is only advised that they do so under extreme circumstances (Ahmed, 1999). In fact, the
Quran recommends that one wife is best because one who marries multiple wives must treat all of
them completely equal and that is a difficult task (Ahmed, 1999). Muslim women like Muslim men
play a part in the family, but their part goes way beyond simply pleasing their

Contact Movie Analysis
Contact
Based on the previous Carl Sagan s novel about an adolescent scientist s determinations to make
Contact with life itself beyond just our universe. The most famous quote that Sagan tells the story of
this movie is that there is billions and billions of stars up there . The fascinating science fiction
film/thriller of that century, Contact, combines many concepts that do not usually go together or are
thought about in relation to each other. That being the concept of faith, politics, and most importantly
science. This movie was released on July 11th, 1997 by producers Robert Zemeciks and Steve
Starkey. Dr.Ellie Arroway played by Jodie Foster rushes to translate a message that they think could
be coming from the Vega star system. When contact at first happens, Dr.Ellie Arroway communicates
with the constricting National Security Advisor Kitz who is played by James Woods. After this
unravels, they go in to see the possible problems with occurrence of this event. An out breaking
message is discovered in the signal, but the question is will Arroway be the only one to be able to
solve it or will there be more involved to help including theory s and arguments? Science versus
religion is one of the main topics and many topics of this movie which I can agree on as I watched this
thriller. Ellie doesn t believe in god and doesn t have a set religion and Palmer does so they clash
personalities a lot throughout Contact. I took interest in one character while watching Contact.

  • 2. Landlord And Tenant Board Observation Report Landlord and Tenant Board Introduction: This report is an observational summary of the Landlord and Tenant Board, located at 3 Robert Speck Parkway Suite 520 Mississauga, Ontario L47 2G5. Throughout Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 and Wednesday, January 27th, 2016, the Landlord and Tenant Board held many different cases. The office building was in close proximity to a public bus stop, which had a route leading directly from Brampton. The bus schedule operated every 9 minutes, and there were conveniently two Brampton busses that lead into the location, the 502 and the 103. However if you were going everyday it would become very costly. If you were someone, with a car, it would be simple to drive from Brampton to Mississauga. Front entrance parking was easily accessible, but there was a cost for parking, for the whole day it was $7.00, for an hour $5.25, for 40 minutes $3.50 and for 20 minutes $1.75. As for the parking, it was more favourable to have your own source of transportation nonetheless it could become pricey. The building had front desk with a security guard who was able to direct you to the floor you needed to go to. The Landlord and Tenant Board was located on the 5th floor, the Board Office had five separate cubicles with secretaries that were able to help with various questions. The Board Office was easy to find due to several signs on the wall. Overall, it was clean, quiet and orderly. The staff member at the counter was very knowledgeable and helpful, at first ... • 3. Common Core State Standards ( Ccss ) Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is a widely debatable topic. Parents, teachers, administration, and even states have taken a stance on what they believe. CCSS is a document created by researchers, teachers, administration, and even the public, stating exactly what each student in grades K 12 should be accomplishing by the end of each level. It is ideally in place for teachers to have a clear understanding of what students are expected to achieve and know by each benchmark test so they can ensure this readiness. Though much thought and exertion has gone into the production and implementation of these standards, many myths have been formulated from them, causing the standards to sound as if they do not have any advantage to our schools ( Understanding the Common Core ). Adopting common standards means bringing all states standards down to the lowest common denominator. This means that states with high standards are actually taking a step backwards by adopting the Common Core ( Utah Core Standards ). This is one of the biggest myths that branch from common core. While this does seem reasonable to believe, it is false. The creators of the criteria looked at the current standards nationally and globally to compose a list from the highest benchmarks available. The new standards not only bring the lower states up, but those with the highest expectations for their students have to bring their schooling to the next level with Common Core in place. This provides the assurance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Artificial Intelligence In Nicholas Carr s Is Google... The Advancement of Intelligence With every passing year, it seems as though humans are becoming more attached to their electronic devices as technology advances at an astounding rate. As a result of this, many people believe that the trade off for having such advanced technology is a decrease in overall brain function, a point that is essentially what Nicholas Carr is arguing is true in his essay Is Google Making Us Stupid?. However, a majority of Carr s argument lies in the fact that people do not read as much because of the Internet, only want information directly given to them instead of having to read through pages of words, and are becoming dangerously reliant on artificial intelligence. However, based on the recent surge of technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, he bluntly says throughout his article that the Internet and search engines such as Google are making us stupid . He goes on to explain how the rise of the internet is adverse to the intellectual mind because it is starting to replace physical reading, and reading allows for intellectual vibrations to be set off within the minds of the people (Carr 28). However, it clear to see that as technology evolves, so does the world and its views on what is considered to be intellectual. While people may not be reading as many physical books anymore, they do tend to educate themselves on the world around them in other ways. Even on seemingly casual social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram, people speak out about what they understand and feel about the world around them, showing how intellectual vibrations are now set off differently than in years past. A technology press conference, a controversial social media post, or a compelling article from an online news source could get a person to deeply think about something just any form of physical print would be able to; this is made evident by how the younger generations are currently using the Internet and its sites. In fact, Carr even quotes an Italian humanist by the name of Hieronimo Squarciafico who stated that the introduction of the Gutenberg printing press and readily available publications would make men less studious (28). However, the introduction of readily available literature has proven to have had the opposite effect, with the most studious of people accepting books and other printed publications as some of their most treasured intellectual resources. In the same way, a parallel can be drawn to the Internet, which will likely turn out to be a blessing for intellectuals around the world just as the printing press was all those years ago. The jacket appears to have blue sleeves, a large blue pocket located directly in front of the jacket and extends for both hands and the chest portion of the jacket appears to be patterned with words across the chest. He also appears to be wearing yellow in color skater style shoes. At approximately 2255 hours, the male appears to now have a white covering over his jacket and face and while utilizing a large wood object resembling a wooden dowel, he approaches the camera and smashes the camera. • 6. History Of Social Norms Social norms have been shaping the way people interact throughout history. While norms could be seen as something that confides behavior, it also maintains social order allowing certain behaviors to be accepted or to be evaded. The way people respond to a situation depends on the person s normative beliefs or what they believe society should act. A normative belief is a person or a group of people believe what behavior is appropriate and inappropriate in a given social context. However, George C. Homans stated: Norms are just shared beliefs; they are not the behavior itself, but what people think behavior ought to be (Standford). It is arguably the world s most important privately controlled economic institution. It all began in his late 20s, having no background knowledge in retailing at all, as he opened up his very first variety store entitled Walton s Five and Dime. It was right then and there that Walton began to offer low prices compared to the other businesses in the local area. His idea of offering low prices surprisingly worked and he soon found himself venturing out and purchasing 15 variety stores all located around the central area by 1960. Everyone in town thought Sam was nuts for taking such a serious risk on drastically cutting back prices, but Sam never felt the least bit worried about his strategy. In 1962, the first Wal Mart opened its doors, along with two other well known discounting chains, K Mart and Woolco. Sam stood his ground and before he knew it 18 Wal Marts were officially up and operating smoothly and successfully in two states. The rest is simply history. Wal Mart s Corporate Culture Every successful business or company must have developed a strong corporate culture in order to be successful in what they do. In Wal Mart s case, profit is the goal, but service is the process ( Corporate Culture 20). However, experts agree that influenza and influenza related deaths could be significantly prevented if people took the influenza vaccine annually. The influenza virus is a deadly virus that has been killing people since the 1900s; in 1918 the first recorded epidemic of a strain of influenza known as the Spanish flu killed approximately 50 million people ( Pandemic Flu History ). Because people did not know what the virus was or how to fight against it, it spread very fast. However, after the vaccine was made, later epidemics such as the 1957, 1968, and 2009 epidemics were not as fatal, killing approximately one million people worldwide. Vaccines played a large role in human history in fighting and preventing diseases from annihilating human beings. This paper will discuss the economic aspects of whether it should be mandatory for hospital health care workers to take the flu vaccine. Paula Sullivan, a seasoned nurse practitioner, discusses how influenza is an infectious disease that takes place in temperate regions around the world which results in approximately the death of 500,000 people annually worldwide; 226,000 people get hospitalized and 36,000 die from influenza annually in the United States alone (Sullivan). • 13. Analysis Of Sherwood Anderson s Hands Sherwood Anderson Hands is a short story written by Sherwood Anderson. The action takes place during the 1890s in Winesburg, Ohio, however, the writer takes you back to Pennsylvania for the reader to understand the background of the story. The tone of the writer is serious. Hands deals with the psychological trauma suffered by Adolph Myers, who later adopts the name of Wing Biddlebaum after being driven out of his town in Pennsylvania by false accusations. I think we can see how emotionally hurt and mentally disturbed Biddlebaum is. When Willard asks him about his hands; Biddlebaum gets upset and remembers his students. You hear them talk and you try to imitate them. He made the use of the word imitate probably because his students jumped in the bandwagon of accusing him. Here and there went his hands, caressing the shoulders of the boys, playing about the tousled heads. When I first started reading about how caring he was for the boys, I suspected immediately of him. But the truth is that Adolph Myers didn t have bad intentions. The touching of the hair were a part of the schoolmaster s effort to carry a dream into the young minds. What I dislike is the injustice committed by these parents and the people from the town. Instead of digging deeper to find out the truth they decided to blame him when there was a lack of evidence to support the facts. Things are not always what they look like and we should we careful of the things we say. It has been tested ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. International Relations And American Foreign Policy International Relations and American Foreign Policy are both strong qualities that help define America as a nation. Not only that, but a strong nation that has the reputation to not be trifled with. The concept of International Relations is so much broader than most will ever know and be aware of. It is such a vast field that almost anything can fall under it. However, there are four main qualities of our foreign policy and international relations that define the process, and that is statesmanship, military and war, international economic policy, and cultural exchange. These four are the core parts of International Relations and America s Foreign Policy. Statesmanship is basically the ability, qualifications, and practice of managing public affairs. The three most important qualities of statesmanship are a vision, a moral compass, and the wisdom to execute. Aristotle believed that statesmanship was for the betterment of the community. As the city state comes first, there obviously needs to be a vision for the community, a moral compass to follow and the wisdom of determining and making the execution of that plan. Statesmanship helps lead a country to greatness. The Bible also has its own spin of statesmanship. For example, Proverbs 21:3 says, To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. This verse alone shows that the essence of politics is not separated from morality. That is one reason why a moral compass is one of the most important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Animal Rights For Animals George Bernard Shaw once said, the worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: that s the essence of inhumanity. The issue of giving animals rights has dated back to the ancient Greek in Romans. They believed that people who died who be reborn in a new life as an animal. This issue has date since sixth century B.C.E until now. As of now the biggest controversy was the seaworld case involving their interaction with the orcas that had been the stars of their park. There were many other cases and the issue soon began to escalate as the number of injuries and occasional deaths increased. Once the problems go to court a decision of removing the exhibit was the best way to decrease injury by no longer creating contact with the animals. The United States should create a set of rights for animals in the entertainment industry in order to give those animals proper treatment. The film documentary Blackfish discusses the issues with Seaworld s orca exhibit and they expose all the problems and issues that orca s experience after the show. During the documentary multiple trainers and seaworld employees who captured the orcas for the shows came to a realization. This is a multi billion dollar corporation that makes its money through the exploitation of Orcas. The cruelty in their methods of capturing showed in the whales and how they were separated from their real families and would release the anger on trainers. All the orcas had to ... Hostage Film Techniques In the 2005 neo noir film Hostage, directed by Florent Emilio Siri, Chief of police Jeff Dailey helps negotiate with three hostage keepers to save his own family and two kids. The thrill seeking, crime plot is executed very intelligently and you can t often infer what will happen next. The darkness of the lighting, darkness of humanity, darkness of the setting, visual motifs and archetypes are all elements of this film that shape it into a neo noir style. Visual motifs are defined as irregular placed objects, objects in the foreground, vertical/horizontal lines, water and claustrophobic devices. A visual motif used often in this film is the shadows of the curtains creating horizontal lines on the actors/actresses. During the interrogation phone call with the chief and the hostage holders, the hostage holders are standing in front of a waterfall like decoration and the vertically running water is a strong visual motif here. The vents throughout the house are used as claustrophobic devices and create a strong dark mood and are a clever visual motif. Like the vents are used to show the darkness of humanity because of their entrapment, they re also used as a claustrophobic device. When the kids are running through the vents and being chased, the vents show how trapped they really are because in a vent system there s nowhere to go. We need to prove our loyalty because the reason why we re in camp is because the American public says that we are enemy aliens. Were loyalty to Japan and so forth. And that perceptions got to be changed. Susumu Satow. This statement is very powerful stating we need to show the American people we are not your enemies but your friends. Do not be scared of us just because we are Japanese. Prejudice played a large role in the Japanese American relocation because of the 1894 treaty, conflict over China, and the Russian Japanese War. The Japanese were never awarded for their bravery going into those internment camps. They were spit on and called names. Imagine being in that situation of hatred. Japanese American relationships were strained (during the)years before World War II. One of the reasons the United States and Japan did not get along was in 1894 when a treaty was signed allowing Japanese Immigrants into America allowing them the same rights as US citizens. In 1906, this treaty was violated when the San Francisco Board of Education passed a provision sending Japanese and Chinese children to segregated schools. This movement angered the Japanese Government because it violated the treaty. • 20. Role Of Economics On Political Change I also used interpolation to impute missing data for many of my independent variables. Interpolation can reduce the ability of an independent variable to explain a dependent variable by reducing the movement of the dependent variable (Allison 2001). Interpolation is comparable to replacing the actual data with a trend. You don t expect the trend to explain short term movements in the dependent variable as well as the actual data. Future Research The findings of this study produce puzzling conclusions. Moving forward, researchers should look at the role of economics on political change in the South at a more local level. A mixed methods approach is most appropriate for this future research because it would allow for interviews with local party leaders to guide the statistical analyses. Also, most people are citizens of a community and less so citizens of a state, so those people should be better able to notice the economic change on a community level instead of a state level. One particular problem with doing research at the county level is that often data is not available at the county level. Some of these issues are solved using multilevel modeling, but a statistical fix does not cure the absence of data. One of the interesting findings of this project concerned the role of turnout in affecting party strength. There are several ways forward. For example, it is possible that turnout drove changes outside of the South. This seems unlikely because the South had such anemic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before the 1800s when an offender was caught there would be a trial and verdict. The plea bargain are for defendant s to plead guilty to a lesser offense or to at least one charge especially if there are multiple indictments. Defendants will plead guilty in hopes of leniency, and at least 90 percent of criminal cases end in a plea bargains. A majority of criminal cases in many jurisdictions will end in a plea bargaining. In the case North Carolina v. Alford, Mr. Alford is accused of Capital murder. The penalty for a guilty plea is imprisonment for life, however, if the defendant pleads innocent and the jury rules him guilty the death penalty attaches. Prior to the trial, Mr. Alford accepted a plea bargain. The bargaining requires him to plead guilty to murder in the second degree, the penalty of which is 30 years. Later on Alford does appeals his case, stating that his agreement to the bargain was involuntary as it was driven by fear of the death penalty. Mr. Alford s conviction was overturned however, the Supreme Court states that a guilty plea is a voluntary decision and is not compelled within his Fifth Amendment rights of Self Incrimination. In a 6 to 3 decision, the Court then reverses the appeal and reinstates his conviction. This is a great example of how the option of plea bargaining continues to be controversial. One cannot thrive without the other, and one cannot be entirely effective unless the other is equally as effective. Many research papers have shown that student motivation is dramatically increased when students are involved in both their own learning and in the learning of others (Pintrich de Groot, 1990).Teachers, however, do not have a sit back role in formative assessment. They are still crucial to the proper use of this assessment by ways of designing appropriate assessment tasks, identifying attainable learning goals and outlining clear criteria for student success. Not only are the animals being affected by diseases or stress, but we too are being affected just as much. As individuals worldwide of multiple ethnicities, ages, religiosity, and able bodiedness may identify as LGBA+, taking into account, this intersectionality and how it impacts on resilience is necessary to our understanding of LGBA+ populations. An individual who identifies both as a sexual minority and as an ethnic minority may have the effects of such discrimination and micro aggressions compounded resulting in overall poorer resilience as the stressors experienced an increase (Balsam, Molina, Beadnell, Simoni, Walters, 2011). • 38. Arguments For Scottish Independence On September 18th, 2014 the people of Scotland voted to stay within the United Kingdom by a 55.5% vote of the 84.6% turnout (Scotland s Future, 2013). Although a large turnout by voting standards, the marginal lead of the winning vote was slim. A main argument for Scottish independence was to keep tax, economic, and social security decisions in the hands of the people whom it affected, the Scottish people themselves; rather than the Westminster Government who determined those factors for the whole of the United Kingdom (Scotland s Future, 2014). If Scotland was to become independent from the United Kingdom, it would be proposed that they would become a part of the European Union as its own country, a parliament of Scottish people would make ... Some voters did not understand where Parliament would get their funding, they had distrust in the First Minister s argument, and their own risk assessment on whether it was worth it or not. The main consensus for their reason of voting No was that they were united together 300 years previously and should stay united. There was also a lack of understanding in the reasons for independence. The demographics of the vote showed that millennials of the sixteen to seventeen age range voted for the independence of Scotland, 71%. The voting in ages between eighteen and fifty four was almost a fifty fifty split in the demographic ranges. However when it came to the age group of sixty five and older, a large 73% voted No. Scottish born residents weren t the only ones allowed to vote. Anyone who resided in Scotland over the age of sixteen was allowed to vote, which is where approximately 400,000 votes from people of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland came from. They let all boys receive an education to a certain extent, however, if they wanted to further their education more they would have to travel to the capital. • 40. St Augustine Function Of Memory Mikayla Canifax Dr.Charara Final Discussion Paper Memory: A Memoir Saint Augustine is plagued by a vigorous sexual appetite and a yearning to absolve his sins. He writes of his most significant life events and his journey back to God in Confessions. He struggles to believe the most commonly accepted facts of religion and through logic comes to an understanding of God s role in man. As he looks back on his past, Augustine reveals the sinful nature of his actions and finds his way back home to God. However, I contend that Augustine s Confessions serve not only himself in the way of repentance and homecoming, but also serve in aiding future generations in their quest to wholeness. Through his confession, the function of memory is revealed as it s used to serve multiple purposes, persons, and philosophies, suggesting that memory is not an unchanging flashback rather a fluid recollection. As he recalls his life story, Augustine is repenting to God. He details his sins and takes responsibility for his wrongdoings. Augustine is trying to find closure within himself and his relationship with God, as his heart is restless until it rests in (God) (I,i). He s trying to find his way back home. In this way, Confessions functions as an apology to God and illustrates Augustine s inner growth. He details how his confusion seized hold of my youthful weakness sweeping me through the precipitous rocks of desire to submerge me in a whirlpool of vice (II,ii). As he unearths his past acts ... • 41. Essay on Two Party System in Democracy Does a two party system help or harm democracy? A two party system is a form of party system where two major political parties dominate voting in nearly all elections. As a result, all, or nearly all, elected offices end up being held by candidates chosen by one of the two major parties. Under a two party system, one of the two parties typically holds a majority in the legislature and is usually referred to as the majority party while the other is the minority party. The Two party sytem has advantages and disadvantages they consist of: Advantages,: It can lead to political stability which leads, in turn, to economic growth, two party systems have been seen as preferable to multi party systems because they are simple to govern, while multi party systems can sometimes lead to parliament. The disadvantages: Two party systems have been criticized extreme views, and putting a second opinion on debate within a nation, two party systems for fail to provide enough options since only two choices are permitted on the ballot, the problem with having only two parties is that the nation loses the ability for things to bubble up from the body politic and give voice to things that aren t being voiced by the major parties. Multi party governments permit wider and more diverse viewpoints in government, and encourage dominant parties to make deals with weaker parties to form winning coalitions. I think having a two party system is ideal because neither major party is strong enough to win without bringing up specific topics that they believe in or their ideology of their party. • 44. Chemotaxis Lab Report Genetic interference of Caenorhabditis Elegans within the process of Chemotaxis Abstract For the majority of animals on earth, responding to chemical stimuli could mean the difference between life and death. Taste is an example of sensing chemical stimuli however, this response is not entirely dependent on genes, as tasting something will not necessarily trigger a gene to activate. Within a simpler organism however, such as Caenorhabditis Elegans, there is a complex behavior that is mediated by three sensory neurons and transduce chemical stimuli to move muscles that move an animal forward(attraction) or backwards(repulsion). By placing these organisms on several plates which will inhibit genetic expression, and then testing chemotaxis at a later point, it is possible to determine which genes are responsible for chemotaxis. The global sample averages of the chemotaxis indexes of CEH 36 and CEH 27 are somewhat inconclusive, with a mean of 0.5815 for CEH 36 and 0.6981 for CEH 27. Overall, the results for CEH 27 are likely to show that there is a lack of genetic interference with chemotaxis where CEH 36 is less definitive. Introduction Within C. If a person believes in basic moralities, such as not lying, cheating or stealing, then his actions will project his beliefs. If one does not agree with these moralities then his actions will oppose the actions of those who do. People?s philosophies are often guided by how they were raised as children and how their mind processes information. Situations and events, positive or negative, can change how a person sees the world which affects the philosophy that they live by. A Christian?s philosophy is found in the Bible. How did the characters of Napoleon and Snowball fill in the gap between reality and imagination with a focused scope on Stalin and Trotsky? The Introduction The leading historians told us so much information about the Russian Revolution starting from the appearance of the new ideologies related to people like Carl Marx, many changes happened to the Soviet society so that no one could predict what was going to happen. The dilemma was based on the fact that many changes happened to the different classes of the Soviet society starting from the leading class to the poorest one. The Discussion of the Question of the Study Many people in Russia who used to live in the basements during the Tsar Era had become living in the upper rooms of the Tsar palaces. Everything had come upside down. There are other changes related to the ideologies that moved life in Russia. These ideologies had been gathered in a way or another under the slogan of communism . It seemed to be good for the Soviet society in Russia as well but the consequences prove to be wrong. • 48. Gender Roles In Rebecca Solnit s Cassandra Amongst The... Hysteria derives from the greek work uterus. That notion refers to women everywhere having to live by the myth of gender roles. Most of the time these stereotypes turn into name calling which result in a harassment of words sticking long enough to the point where it s deemed as normal. The significance of that myth by people who endure verbal attacks correlates to how the rest of the crowd then perceives the judged. The consequences that follow are in the form of reputation creating these social norms that are unfair. In the tale Cassandra Amongst the Creeps, author Rebecca Solnit exemplifies the topic of how myths create social norms with the setting stone story of the goddess denying a Gods sexual request. As a result the curse of disbelief and tainted credibility of women was made normal as that myth stayed alive throughout history even to this day. In conjunction to Solnit, Lauren Holmes author of Barbara the Slut exhibits the modern setting of a high school to portray how impactful perception and credibility derived from that myth are. Both authors entertain how certain attitudes perpetuate future problems that can destroy characters esteem. Barbara s scarred credibility was in result of other people s false conscious of her character. Barbara the Slut s story represents the meaning of Solnit s belief of myth changing reality by exhibiting how women s sexuality is tied to perception, and how that perception changes individual s credibility and reputation. This statement made by Ann Coulter (2001) following the September 11th terrorist attacks demonstrates the disdain for Muslims, We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity (as cited in Arab American National Museum, 2011). In this essay, I will discuss the issue of Muslim women and some of the ways in which their reality contradicts the common media representations of women in that area. While it is true that arranged marriages do still take place in the Muslim world, the marriages are not forced upon anyone (Ahmed, 1999). Before an arranged marriage takes place, parents and older relatives discuss different possible matches, but the person, for whom they are searching a mate, is always involved in the discussions (Ahmed, 1999). Then before the marriage can take place, both future spouses must agree to the marriage in front of witnesses (Ahmed, 1999). A third common media stereotype of Muslim women is that their sole purpose is to please their husbands. Geraldine Brooks author of the book, Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women wrote that Muslim women are expected to sacrifice their comfort and freedom to service the requirements of male sexuality; either to repress or stimulate the male sex urge (as cited in Arab American National Museum, 2011). This stereotype is heightened by the fact that Islam allows polygamy. While Islam does allow men to take four wives, it is only advised that they do so under extreme circumstances (Ahmed, 1999). In fact, the Quran recommends that one wife is best because one who marries multiple wives must treat all of them completely equal and that is a difficult task (Ahmed, 1999).
