The Differences Of Cruel And Unusual Punishment
Cruel and Unusual Punishment
If you had the choice would you rather die from being crushed by an elephant or by what the
persians called Scaphism ? You could have rats dig through your flesh into your chest or be boiled
alive (Eldridge 2017). It all sounds pretty tempting am I right? The eighth amendment to the U.S.
Constitution prohibits the federal government from imposing cruel and unusual punishment for
federal crimes. What is cruel and unusual punishment? What are the differences between old
medieval, Roman, Egyptian and, nowadays cruel and unusual punishments? To understand the topic
of my paper we have to understand what cruel and unusual punishment means. Dictionary.com
states that it is punishment prohibited by the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution. Cruel and
unusual punishment includes torture, deliberately degrading punishment, or punishment that is too
severe for the crime committed. This concept helps guarantee due process even to convicted
criminals. Many people have argued that capital punishment should be considered cruel and unusual
punishment (Dictionary.com 2017).
Cruel; disposed to inflict pain or suffering, devoid of humane feelings, causing or conducive to
injury, grief, or pain. Unusual; not usual : uncommon, rare. Punishment; suffering, pain, or loss that
serves as retribution: a penalty inflicted on an offender through judicial procedure (Merriam
Webster 2017).
In medieval times there was a cruel execution method that started in old time

look up towards Larry because he had to work for his place as the chief executive officer of Oracle
and now has become one of the richest people in the world. Ellison is a very good leader in his
corporation because he perseveres to get what oracle needs and is ruthless in the face of
business. Larry also makes important decisions that impact the future of oracle. Larry was born

Divine Law versus Human Law Essay
Divine Law versus Human Law
Sophocles famous play, Antigone, can be perceived as a conflict between individual conscience and
state policy. Yet the issue of the play goes beyond that conflict and touches the universal conditions
of suffering, religion, and loyalty. Through Antigone s character which represents the spheres of
family loyalty, divine law, and human suffering, Sophocles conveys the idea that a law of man that
violates religious law is not a law at all. He expresses this idea by having Antigone dutifully bury
her brother s body although it is against King Kreon s ruling. Antigone s action is not only an act of
family loyalty but is an act of piety demanded by the gods. The play commences with Antigone
announcing her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suffering is a universal condition that the characters in the play must deal with. Since the day
Polyneices and Eteokles died, Ismene suffers by not being capable of having emotions. She says
to Antigone: Nothing makes me happy, nothing hurts me anymore (Sophocles 22). The loss of
loved ones can cause one to suffer but to not honor those who died can cause a vast amount of
distress. Because Eteokles was honorably buried and Polyneices was not, Antigone suffered for her
brother; the guilt built every second he remained unburied. She does not regret burying her brother
by saying, But if I had let my own brother stay unburied/I would have suffered all the pain I do not
feel now (Sophocles 572 3). She would rather bury her brother and go against the state than live
her life in pain. She is independent in her decision because she would is willing to suffer her
own death so she won t suffer her brother s death any longer: I m ready to suffer for it and to die.
/Let me. No suffering could be so terrible as to die for nothing (Sophocles 120 3). She is
conveying that no matter what, she will suffer. If she does nothing for her brother she will suffer
and if she does, she will suffer the death penalty. It is better, she concludes, to suffer and die out of
loyalty to her own family. Although Ismene reminds Antigone of how their family s name

Compare And Contrast Crime And Punishment In Ancient Egypt
This paper is to compare and contrast crime and punishment in the ancient Mesopotamia and
Egypt mainly from the following three perspectives: religion, the purpose of punishment and
women. In terms of religion, we can tell from the Laws of Hammurabi and the Egyptian papyri
that the views of religion were both considered to be supreme in the ancient states. But there are
some differences between the views of the religion, especially in the objective to which the
people of two states believed in respectively. In the Laws of Hammurabi, there are some examples
that prove the status of the nature, like the river, and, in some cases, the river was the symbol of
justice which could prove whether the accused were guilty or not. People believed... Show more

Essay On Miss Brill By Marjane Satrapi And Katherine...
All great authors and even average authors for that fact are influenced by events that happen in
their lives. Having personal experiences to the authors allows a piece of writing to have more
personality in my opinion because it isn t just something that is made up but is passed on real
facts. Marjane Satrapi and Katherine Mansfield are both well known authors and they use events in
their life to help write their stories. Marjane Satrapiwrote the graphic novelPersepolis and
Katherine Mansfield wrote the story Miss Brill, both authors wrote more stories but these two
pieces of writings are what I will focus a little more on. While Marjane Satrapi and Katherine
Mansfield had events in their lives which influenced their work, I believe Marjane... Show more

Her life is influenced by this story because it is all about what it was like for her being a young
adult and living in Iran with limitations for women. In her story it says The guardians of the
revolution had been added to arrest women who were improperly veiled. (Satrapi 151) Satrapi
wants her story to shed a light of the negative thoughts that people have for her country Iran
because they can not fully understand till they live there (Marjane Satrapi Biography). Marjane
s stories have a lot of references to important topics but in a way that will be appealing to her
readers. With Katherine s story Miss Brill it seemed to me that she used the character in the
story to represent her life because the character was becoming ill just like how she had
Tuberculosis. In the story it says What has been happening to me? (Mansfield 135) and in this
part of the story it is being shown how Miss Brill builds a fantasy life that way she does not have
to face the truth about what is actually going on. Katherine s story was basically about herself but
Marjane s story was about her whole life and the problems with the country she lived

Technology, Serbians, and Albanians in Power over People...
Everything comes with pros and cons, and so are technology and utilization of air force. However,
there are many incidents where people only remember the advantages while neglecting the side
effects those brought. One of the famous incidents is Kosovo war that is known to bring human
rights to people who are deprived of it due to their different ethnicity, but we cannot simply
conclude that the Serbians were the aggressors and Albanians were the victims. Similarly, on the
one hand, the superior technology acquired by the NATOand the US demonstrated that technology
means power to achieve what they want. On the other hand, the technology that people developed
can bring disaster to people by increasing the death rate during the war and... Show more content on

They reduced their cost by using the air force, and they saved RAF from its greedy rivals, the
army and the navy. More importantly, it kept Iraq and its oil in the British sphere at lower cost
than any other method, and it helped the Iraqi regime too. Although the use of air force is
controversial, it is still cheap and effective way to panic and defeat the enemies. In both cases, the
advancement in the technology, the air force, enabled them to be superior to their enemies and
easily panic and achieve its main goal. These wars indicate that war enabled people to achieve
what they want in faster and more efficient manner than before. Although air force is an effective
way to drive the enemies out, they still have side effects and disadvantages just like everything
else. Both incidents coincide in the idea that the technology though helped to end the war faster, it
made more casualties. In case of Kosovo war, Gibbs stated before the attack of NATO, the death
rate of all soldiers and civilians were about 2000. However, the number skyrockets when NATO
starts its bombing campaign. Since the Serbs cannot defend against the superior technology, they
relieved their anger to the Albanians. Moreover, the technology led to more casualties of both
soldiers and the civilians. The technology also made the war longer. The air strikes made the
Albanian military to move its base and aggravate them instead of giving up. Headrick had same

Racism is something that has been around for a long period of time predominantly Jewish and
Black communities. Both race have been subjected to hate due to the color of their skin, or race

amount of hate that the were toward them races. Because of all the racismthat was going on
between there were many speeches and many marches Held in predominantly Jewish and Black
communities. Many of the marches that took placed played a big part in the freedom of these to

What I find to be very interesting about the first amendment is that because we have freedom of
speech the Klu Klux Klan also known as the KKK are able to hold meetings and speeches that
they have against the black communities. I agree that people here in the United States of
America should be able to have freedom of speech but do I agree that that KKK should be able
to hold hate marches and speeches? Will this is a very difficult question for me to answer
because I am an African American, so my first answer is to say no, but when I use my critical
thinking that I have learned in this class I say yes they should be able to hold Hate speech. I
look back to the famous speech in the black communities that were held to lead our way to
freedom such as the I Have a dream Speech by martin Luther King or the Million Man March was
held by Minster Farrakhan there were a lot of people that didn t believe in the movement that was

Analysis Of Truman s The Truman Show
The Truman Show is centred on a man made island called SeaHaven where a man named
Truman Burbank has been televised without his knowledge since birth. The show is a 24 hour
live tv show where every aspect of Truman s life is shown. As Truman grows older he begins to
notice unsual events that leads him to believe that there is something incongruent with what
people are telling him and what he experiences in his day to day life. As Truman begins to test
the boundaries he realizes that the town seems to revolve around him and his desire to escape
comes to an all time high. Eventually Truman begins on a journey to escape his virtual reality.
Despite the boundaries that the director throws at him he eventually escapes and will try to find
his way in the real world. This movie made me sympathize for Truman being that he has no
privacy and is oblivious to his lack of freedom. This movie shows how it is possible to create an
ideal community and how New Urbanism can be created and maintained.
New Urbanism essentially promotes an inclusive community that is close in proximity, which the
ccreator of the Truman Show creates. There is many positives that comes with New Urbanism
most being that all aspects of the city would be in walking distance which results in reduced cars
and mixed housing. New Urbanism brings on increased communication and interaction between
individuals which is facilitated by a city centre. Mumford writes about how a city is a theatre of
social action (CR page

Analysis Of Lieutenant Cross Carried A Letter And...
Lieutenant Cross carried a letter and pictures from Martha, a girl back home. His obsession with
Martha distracts him from his duties as a platoon leader. He constantly finds himself fantasizing
about her when he should be checking the perimeter or watching for ambushes. Lt. Cross not only
carried the photographs of Martha, but he also carried his love for her and the pain of knowing
she would never return his love. Martha had sent him a pebble from the Jersey shoreline. Lt. Cross
carried it in his mouth while humping and pretended that he was back with Martha at college

As one of the Multimedia Super Corridor Flagship Applications, the development and
implementation of the chip based Bankcard began in 2000 with the Malaysian Electronic Payment
System (1997) Sdn. Bhd. (MEPS) at the helm working together with domestic banking institutions.
Bank Negara Malaysia served as the lead agency whose primary function is to facilitate the
implementation. The Bankcard will spur the vision of promoting electronic payment in the country.
Initially the Bankcard will contain three payment applications namely: 1. ATM 2. E Debit 3. MEPS
Cash
The use of Bankcard encourages cashless payment transaction for various sectors e.g. retail, vending
machines, car parks and transport and closed community to leverage on Bankcard to use MEPS
Cash as the mode of payment. It also encourages participation of business venture in undertaking
merchant acquiring business.
Under this initiative of implementing multiple payment applications onto a single smart card, the
domestic banking institutions pioneered the chip based electronic purse during the Commonwealth
Games (SUKOM) in September 1998. The full implementation of the PMPC project (ATM, e

Similarities Between The Princess And The Frog Prince
First I would like to explain that I truly believe that there slim to no reasons that the most recent
story which is the princess and the frog relates anything to Grimm s fairy tale The Frog Prince or
Iron Henry. I believe this to be true due to the fact that there is only one similarity between the two
stories and that is, that in both there is a princess that stumbles upon and frog and he turns into a
prince.
With that being said I think this baseline plot was kept to create what is one of today s modern
princess stories in which a beautiful young girl must endure trials and tribulation to find love in
not only an unexpected place but with a very unexpected person. In the newest version of the story
we get our main character who is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Self-Limiting Beliefs
We all have self limiting beliefs in one way or another. However, if we want to be successful we
need to learn to let go of these beliefs; beliefs like denial and resistances. Many of these self
limiting beliefs result from stories that we have created in our mind. When bad things happens
we tend to defend, over rationalized or protect ourselves as part of our survival instinct.
Unfortunately these kinds of behaviors keep us from moving forward. Do you make excuses
for procrastinating? Do you blame others for your lower performance at work? Are you blaming
your excessive weight on your genetics? If so, it s time to learn how to make some mental
adjustments so that you can really enjoy your life and experience a much more abundant and
fulfilling life. Abundant and prosperous people face the same difficulties and discomforts that
the rest of us do but they have learned how to take appropriate actions to avoid negative
consequences. The basic principle to learn is to take responsibility for your life. It is up to us to
be successful, overcome challenges and deal with drawbacks. Sometimes there are things out of
our control, but we can choose to acknowledge this situation, understand the red flags, find a
detour, keep moving and take positive action. This sometimes implies that we have to take risks.
Why denial is the number one self limiting obstacle? Denial means to hide or ignore that we are
facing a problem or dealing with challenges. Denial provides a set of myths and

The Effects Of Censorship On The World Essay
The demand for a variety of situations was not only expected of theatre but also other aspects of
their metropoliantin life, shop windows became more and more extravagant and advertisements
became more colourful to fulfil the need for an over stimulant diet (JeJelavich 24). Even what the
working class and bourgeoisie were consuming at the time was a sugar thus stimulate based diet.
Around the turn of the century many observers of German culture concluded that a new
performing art was needed (Jelavich 26) it needed meet a middle ground between the
mindlessness of popular variety shows and the incomprehensible esoterism of avant garde (
Jelavich 26). This is when the form cabaret came to the rescue. Berlin had over fifty theatres in
operation as the wartime censorship had been abandoned this new edgy artistic movement evolved.
The German currency, the Mark, was significantly devalued compared to many other currencies. It
became an attractive destination for those wanting a thrill seeking and edgy night life, with none of
the prohibitions of censorship that may have been in force at home. Cabaret, as an art form had
originated many years before, but under authoritarian government with censorship. Thus Cabaret
became the embodied version of the metropolitan city within an art form during the Weimar era.
Jelavich gives the reader a definition of an ideal type of cabaret that would have consisted of the
following attributes. The cabaret would have had a small stage

Seed Drill In The 1500s
Imagine that it was the 1500s and you were in your garden trying to plant 100 seeds, but out of
the 100 seeds you planted, only one actually grew into a plant/vegetable/fruit. This was how
farming and agriculture was before machinery, such as the seed drill, invented in 1566. Farmers
/workers would carry a bag full of seeds and would walk up and down the field randomly
throwing seeds into the ground. Seeds were wasted in the process, so it wasn t very useful, and
also took up a lot of energy, even though it was much cheaper to do. In the 1500s, if you were
bad at farming, you weren t so lucky and would have probably starved/died. So, how did the seed
drill help for those that struggled and also make farming easier? Jethro Tull improved the seed drill
in 1782, a horse drawn rotating cylinder that deposited seeds into the ground.... Show more content

Self Awareness Analysis
An emotionally intelligent individual manages personal situations and relationships with balance
and care. Daniel Goleman, a psychologist and author, believes the four domains of emotional
intelligence are self awareness, self management, empathy, and the combination of the above. When
these four domains work congruently it stabilizes an individual in both work and home relationship
(Goleman, 2013). A human service worker offers an effective service to the client when socially
balanced and focused on developing healthy levels of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence
is demonstrated both in the workplace and at home by how situations ... Show more content on

The fourth component is the combination of the three domains working together in unison like a
well oiled machine. If self management is neglected it certainly will not improve the ability to be
empathetic, nor can it help in self awareness, as this second component works to improve on an
individual s firm grasp of applying positive emotions under stress. It is also imperative to put these
three domains together for healthy relationships to occur. These four domains also lend into social
intelligence placing people together as you and I instead of I and it, and these two modes of
relating to others takes the object out of how one views people.
Experiencing Self Awareness Daniel Golemanprovides examples of individuals experiencing self
awareness at both work and in one s life (Goleman, 2013). Being conscious of one s inner world,
beliefs, thoughts, and concepts are what comprise self awareness. In one s daily life there are
situations, struggles, and trials which can impact sound judgement and resolution. Self awareness
helps the individual make healthy decisions and knowing when to ask for help to cope with an
overwhelming issue. Also learning to grow through a limiting perspective to compromise with
others and seek alternatives (Levine, 2013). Others may disagree with ones beliefs, decisions, and
lifestyle, yet the individual can recognize feelings about those in disagreement with them and avoid
unnecessary conflict. While in the work

Critique of a Website Essay
Critique of a Website
Web sites are just like magazines, newspapers, brochures, menus, or even directions on how to
make nitroglycerin from house hold goods, in that they all have to be put together in such a
manner that whoever is reading or browsing over it will be able to clearly distinguish this from
that. In this sense, a critique of any particular web site will have justification, while carefully
considering also that this is an altogether new medium of information exchange. Now, all of this
talk of togetherness is actually a general reference to basic design principles, such as color
coordination, if color is used, text size, font choice/ style, art integration, accessibility, and just
plain and simple design of the page. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

But, hey!, I could be wrong: There could actually be a great person hiding under that crusty

designing a web page or any page for that matter. I m not trying to rag on Raygun or anything,
because I like A LOT of the stuff that they do, but one must not get carried away with it and
ignore what one is supposed to be doing in the first place. For this reason I have chosen to pick
on the Alternative X web site (http://www.altx.com/), for this paper. Well, not really pick on
them, but you know what I mean. So in our quest to discover the ideal web page we must look at
the following things: 1) Does it make sense? Is its layout so erratic in such a way as to render
the viewer blind because of the designers lack of vision and utter stupidity? 2) Organization.
How and why were things placed in the places they were placed, needs to be known, or at least
made seemingly apparant. 3) Since this is a web site we are critiquing, and like a Choose Your
Own Adventure Book one can skip to another section with almost no fear of being inquisitioned,
does its links lead to somewhere meaningful?
The first thing one sees when first viewing this page is a yellow screen with a single X in the
center with alt typed across it. Nice. Let me go off on a tangent here: I

Characteristics Of Coyote Ecology
The coyote has very distinctive features and is classified as a member of the canine family. They
live in packs and typically mate for life. They are relatively small predators and their ability to
adapt well to the environment around them allows them to live almost anywhere. The coyote s
population size and habitat range has increased over the years. There have been spotting s of
coyotes within residential communities because of human expansion into their territories as well.
They shift their diet depending on the environment they are in. They are susceptible to a few
diseases that specifically affect the dogfamily. Coyotes typically do not bother people or
domesticated pets; however, there have been rare cases where they have attacked and killed a
person. Coyoteecology is important to understand in order to get a better sense of the environments
they live in and how they affect other wildlifearound them. The coyote is a member of the canine

Theatre did not have much influence on my life yet attending a Broadway musical theatre was one

was back in high school when I joined an Improv club. I was shy and afraid of getting humiliated
because I didn t know anything about theatreand I felt like all the people around me are judgmental
and unkind. However, they turned out to be more welcoming than my peers in algebra class.
Initially, we did a few welcome exercises, such as holding hands and passing a ball around. Since
Improv is all about acting on the spot, everybody gets anxious and nervous when it s their turn. It
s just that some are more quickly to adapt, and some are good at hiding their true emotions. People
make mistakes, and it is fine to make mistakes in our Improv Club because everybody, even the
president and the advisor, make silly mistakes. When it happens, we all laugh knowing that laughter
relieves the embarrassment of the actorand did not mean anything cruel by it. I have to admit that,

Decade Of The Brain Essay
The human brain has been largely a topic of discussion in recent decades, so much so that the
1990s became known as the Decade of the Brain . This is due to the extensive amount of research
able to be conducted due to advancing technology; however there still remains debate on many
aspects of thought, cognition, and overall consciousness that we see as being alive and human.
Though many answers remain shrouded in mystery, scientists are able to deduce one piece of
important information: neurotransmitters play a vital role in emotions and mood felt from person
to person. These chemicals, when put blatantly, are responsible for how we feel and think on a
daily basis. Essentially these neurotransmitters define who we are as individuals because they give
the ability to feel and react. This process is not always a perfect science at times though, and as
researchers are finding out, that these immensely important chemicals can also cause harm
alongside all the benefits they bring to a person s process of thought.

Parenting In American Society
Do you think or believe American society provides too much or too little quality education on the

What do you suggest as a way to resolve this issue?
I believe American society does not provide enough quality education on the nature of parenting
and the impact of development of our children and the generations ahead. In today s world we
face the challenges of being judged by the aspect of our chosen parenting style. Though we

has us in a microscope ready to scull anyone (with judgement) who is different and that doesn t stay

Essay on Childhood Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a mental illness which affects millions of people throughout the world. Scientists
have begun to understand more and more about the possible causes, predisposing factors, types,
and possible treatments for schizophrenia. (Torrey, 1995) It is very rare for schizophrenic
symptoms to appear before the age of 12 but it does occur. Recently, there has been a growing
interest in childhood schizophrenia. It is less than one sixtieth as common as the adult onset type
but the characteristics are very similar. Childhood schizophrenia also tends to be harder to treat and
to have a worse prognosis than the adult onset form. (Rapoport, 1997)

It seems to be centered in the 6th 7th month of fetal development, a period characterized by

there are many signs of the onset of schizophrenia. Major feeding disturbances occurred and
children were described as having poor sucking ability or falling asleep every time the mother
tried to nurse. (Cantor, 1988) The major sign is the mother infant relationship. The child has no
desire to cuddle with the parents or be held and create the bond that is so desperately needed.
(Arieti, 1974) The sleep cycle is often the first symptom to pre schizophrenia. Infants were
reported to В‘sleep almost constantly during the first few months, yet by the age of six months,
they refuse to sleep at all . (Cantor, 1988) Severe nightmares are very common in the first two

and falls back asleep. (Cantor, В‘88) By the time the child is three or four, serious sleep
disorders begin to develop. The child just can t fall asleep, and it seems like they just can t relax .
(Cantor, В‘88) These children are more likely to sleep walk, and have no fear in doing anything

in fact, schizophrenic children become cautious and fearful as the awareness of their alien world

Organizational Culture Change The Organization Culture Essay
It is not uncommon in today s business world to hear a new CEO, an organizational consultant, a
leadership expert talk about the urgent need to change the organization culture. Often organizations
set high aspirations to change the culture but fall short of modifying the way that people feel,
behave and get work done. Culturechanges rarely manifest into noticeable long term improvements.
It is important to note that corporate cultures are slow to evolve and difficult to change, that is not
to say that culture cannot be changed. For starters, organizational culturecan be complex to even
define and differ in definition depending on the organization. As organizations move forward with
their culture change programs, it is crucial that they have a vast understanding of what culture is
and how it is formed. In the present paper, the foundation of organizational culture is studied from
a couple of different aspects: how culture evolves, how culture can be changed, and what is a
leader s role in culture change? When positive culture forces and strategic priorities are in sync,
companies can begin to gain competitive advantage or regain advantages that may have been lost.
Organizations should no longer ignore cultural forces within the workplace when looking to
implement change of any kind. Organizational culture as a concept has recently came to the
forefront, although, many concepts have touched on aspects of culture. In earlier research,
characteristics of culture were

Curriculum Evaluation

specialist area. I will be discussing the theories and models of curriculum, influences on the design,
evaluation and quality assurance systems. I will also evaluate the level 2 Diploma and discuss

When curriculum development is being considered, Vashist (2003:1) states that the development of

skills. Such activities in the classroom would include working with measurements, calculating areas
and adding and subtracting measurements. In the workshop, basic calculating of materials would
be required and using trigonometry and Pythagoras theorem to find angles and lengths. Correct
terminology will be emphasised so that learners will understand terminology and start to use it in
their specialist subject which would help learners if they need to communicate with building

Major Life Experiences In Tyler Oakley s Binge
Discovering who you are in life is not always easy. Along the way you will learn multiple things
about yourself, too. In the book, Binge, by Tyler Oakley, the author demonstrates that idea along
with the fact that you should embrace your flaws. By going through some of his major life
experiences in his point of view, the reader is able to understand how Oakley develops this idea.
Social media star, Tyler Oakley, is looked up to for a variety of reasons, whether it be because of
his funny personality or his caring heart. Either way, he is still human just like anyone else,
meaning that he has endured difficult times and felt strong emotions. He says so himself,
figuring out who I was in the world wasn t the easiest. He struggled when he came to the
realization that he was gay, just like most members of the LGBTQ+ community do. He proceeds
to go into depth about how he was accepted by a multitude of people, but others could not
understand, including his own father. By sharing this experience in the way that he saw it, others
in a similar situation can hopefully find some help through it. Oakley also mentions that he was
taught that being yourself was not only okay, but encouraged and by being unapologetically
yourself, you thrive and inspire others to thrive. In addition to this problem that he faced and
overcame, Oakley also struggled with his body image growing up. He shares how he developed
both anorexia and bulimia in an effort to change his image, but it was just a negative impact on his
life. This is a common topic in society today, especially within... Show more content on

Difference Between Foundationalism And Coherentism
1. What is the traditional understanding of knowledge? Explain two theories of truth. What is
the difference between foundationalism and coherentism? What is knowledge? What does
knowledge mean and how does a person get to know something? And taking the step further
than that how does a person know that the something is true? What is the basis for knowledge?
There are two main forms of knowledge; a priori and empirical. A priori is knowledge that is
independent from a person s experience and can be proven to be true by simple logic or basic
definition of what is being stated. For example 2+2=4 is considered a priori type of knowledge
because it can be proven true by using the mechanics of mathematics. The other type of
knowledge is knowledge that can not be true without a personal experience to give justification
to why it is true, this knowledge is called empirical knowledge. Empirical knowledge is much
harder to prove to be true just by the nature of where the justification comes from. An example of
this is that the writing is in blue ink the statement can only be true if I had seen for myself that
the writing was done in blue ink because by definition writing does not have to be in blue ink. To
solve this problem, Plato would say that knowledge is a justified true belief and gives us specific
steps to work through this problem. This means the person making the claim must be able to justify
it in someway. The claim in itself must be true. And the person must believe

The English Colonies In North America
J Taiya CarrREFLECTION PAPER 2HIS 201June 15, 2016 The English colonies in North
America were slowly separating themselves from the crown. It starts with radical kings in Europe
who cause so much disruption that a civil war occurs. The colonies worked together to fend for
themselves and survived quite well without the crown and Parliament watching over them.
England was not aware of it but every little thing they did to try reasserting command over the
colonies only pushed them farther away. If England had always kept a firm hand on the colonies,
we would be speaking proper English and marveling at our queen in the twenty first century. One of
the mistakes England made was allowing King James II to try enforcing control upon the colonies...

George Greenville could be blamed for all of it since he was chief minister and developed some
of these ideas. The colonists were not happy with Parliament s decisions to them without their
consent, especially since Britain s were the only ones able to be taxed since they had elected
representatives in Parliament. The Quartering Act seemed to be one of the last straws. The
colonists believed their requirement to house and feed British troops was England s way of
trying to dominate them. Thanks to Greenville, the Sons of Liberty was created in protest of the
laws created and wide spread protests began. The Stamp Act would soon be repealed and
Greenville replaced, but Parliament would pass the Declaratory Act to assert their power to
create laws over the colonies. It almost looked as if they were asking for a rebellion. The Sons
of Liberty grew stronger, protests larger, and the unfortunate Boston massacre happened. The
death of a few individuals by the hand of British soldiers influenced Parliament to repeal many
but not all acts. The tip of the ice berg was the Boston Tea Party. Due to disguises, the British did
not know who committed the act and decided to punish all of Boston. The end of result of all this
was the first Continental Congress that wrote a declaration, most likely practice for the big

Analysis Of The Cane Toad Overpopulation
The article explains that several measures were proposed to reduce the cane toad population, and
provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that it would not be easy to get

each of the author s reasons.
First, the reading posits that national fence reduced the cane toad population. The professor

the rivers and steams some of the toad s eggs would establish their community on other side of the
fences. This proves that the Fence would not be effected method to control the cane toad population.

Bowers Museum Analysis
Davis, E Bowers Museum Review Located in Santa Ana, CA the Bowers Museum can be seen
in a similar light as the art work Levitated Mass by Michael Heizer. I say this because the Bowers
is located in a not so nice part of Santa Ana and can be looked at as a beacon. The Architecture is
set in the style of a mission with Stuccoed Walls, Terra Cotta Roof Tiles, Cement Copying and
Curvilinear Gables. As you enter the bowers Museum you walk up on a long dramatic brick

Through this exhibit you start to think of the medium Pelt uses and how hard it is as you look
at the pieces for their sheer stunning beauty! The one piece that stood out for me over the rest
was the Agate Rhyton . This piece is carved into a drinking vessel in the shape of an Impala (I
think) with its head slightly raised up with a gold piece as it nose. As you leave the Gemstone
Carvings you walk into a rotunda that has Pacific Islander carved bouts and large carved log
drums. From here you enter the exhibit Ancient Arts of China. This exhibit allows you to look at
a history of Chinese Art dating as far back as 5000 years. starting with painted large ceramic pots
from the Neolithic period. This exhibit will take you on a journey with items on display like
sculpture of horse made during the Han Dynasty, to silk robes, ivory carvings and special items

How To Change The Dress Code
If my school were to change the dress code, there are multiple things I would change. I would
like for them to change the rule about leggings. Not everyone has the same body type, boys need
to learn to control themselves, and students have to buy more clothes to wear that fit the dress
code. Some people can get away with wearing leggings which are usually people with a non
curvy body. Some people can t help if they are curvy. Leggings are very comfortable, so if
someone with that body type wanted to wear them, they can t because it s noticeable so they
would get in trouble right away. Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with leggings. So if they
re going to have the rule they should make sure they enforce it equally or not have it all.

Benjamin Franklin s Aphorism
Failing to prepare and preparing to fail, the two go hand in hand. When Benjamin Franklin said
this, it is not only accurate, but also extremely relevant to a person s ordinary day. Whether it be
studying for a test, homework, or even just working a job, preparation is the best way to achieve
one s ambition. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Franklin s aphorism, is a
high school student wanting to pass an exam or SOL. For most high schoolers, it is a big deal to
do well on these end of the year assessments, in order to get into an elite college, or at least of
college of choice. Achieving a good score on these exams is no easy task, at least not without
preparation. High school can be a very stressful timefor students,

Olga , a well known multiphase simulator, was used to study the effects of varied hole and pipe
size combinations, and hole angles from 80 degree from vertical to 100 degrees from vertical on
the efficient removal of gas kicks. Results show that annular velocities of up to 3.4 ft/sec may be
required to efficiently remove gas from near horizontal wellbores with relatively large annular
spaces. Task 4 Work on Task 4 has begun, but has not been completed at this date. Dr. Jonggeun
Choe is scheduled to arrive in College Station in early January, 2005, where he and Dr. Schubert
will complete this task. This work will be reported in a supplemental report that will be provided to
the MMS in mid February, 2005. Conclusions Results from this study can be useful in planning
well kill operations. The planning process can be summarized as follows: 1. Determine the
capacities of the mud/gas separation equipment to determine the maximum circulation rate that this
equipment can tolerate. 2. Compare this rate to the optimum circulation rate to remove gas from the
horizontal portion of the hole. a. If the minimum rate to remove gas from the horizontal section
exceeds the maximum rate that can be handled by the surface equipment, the kill operation should

Essay On The Death Of The American
That night, Andre stayed with a Loyalist attorney named Joshua Smith. While not permitted to wear
civilian attire, he got clothes and road horseback with Smith towards Tarrytown, New York near
British lines. Smith left Andre towards the end of the trip and when Andre was close to his
destination three men stopped him. These men questioned Andre and instead of showing his pass
that he was John Anderson, Andre trusted the men and revealed who he really was. The men, who
Andre thought were Loyalists were part of the American Army, searched Andre and found the
information given to him by Arnold in his shoes. He was captured and taken to the American
commanding officer who informed General Washington and Arnold of the news. Arnold

It has been said that Arnold should have been the captured and killed instead of Andre. Major
Andre made multiple impacts on the US National Defense. While the mission he set out to
complete failed, Andre broke down the safety net the US thought they had. By gaining the trust of
Arnold and setting up the plan to take over West Point, Andre was the hole in what was set to be
a perfect American plot. If he did not get caught the outcome for the war would have been a
different scene. The Americans thought they had a fool proof plan when in reality they had one of
the biggest traitors history has ever seen in Benedict Arnold. For Andre to get Peggy on board to
help with getting Arnold on board took time and patience. The plan would have worked fully if the
ship, Vulture, would not have been moved downstream after Andre got the information from
Arnold. This whole incident made the Americans realize that there could be more spies among
them, and therefore Washington had Andre executed, to set an example for future spies. The
second impact on US National Defense deals with the classification system that we use in the Army
and surrounding agencies today. Information like the plans and layouts for a military installation
would be classified secret or top secret today. Unfortunately, in the 1700s, there was no system of
classifying documents. This could have been a deterrent in an incident like

Analysis Of How A Woman Can Get Hurt By Jean Kilbourne
Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt , an article by Jean Kilbourne bitterly rags on sex in
advertisement. It goes into detail to describe how companies have become increasingly more
likely to sell sex in advertisements for products that, in reality, are entirely unrelated. Kilbourne
focuses primarily on how this is harmful to society especially women and children and how they
are viewed by men, though men may also be targeted if not nearly as frequently. In a similar article
called Taking a Bite Out of Twilight, Carmen D. Siering shares her disapproval of the popular
novel adored by so many: Twilight. Represented by the iconic red apple held in a women s palm
with a sinister black backdrop, Twilight is a modern fairytale where the prince belongs to a
monstrous society of blood sucking models, and the princess is your average, plain Jane
highschool girl with a knack for getting into trouble. Siering s opinion is most basically this:
Bella is objectified and downgraded in the Twilight series; a character created solely to
compliment the plot propelled by male characters. Where the majority of the population sees an
aching, beautiful and dangerous romance, Siering sees a controlling relationship and a dull female
lead. Kilbourne s article brings to light how Siering s article, directed at Stephenie Meyers readers,
is so accurate with the the recommendation that everyone become more aware of the messages
they are absorbing from media as it snakes its way into society s

William Golding Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis
Charles Dickens, a well known writer, once said Subdue your appetites, my dears, and you ve
conquered human nature. While the thought of not having complete control of my actions and
thoughts means I m doing what s in my nature is uncomfortable, I see the truth and reasoning
behind the statement. The quote can be clearly reflected in the book Lord of the Flies by
William Golding. In the book, a group of boys get stranded on an island with no grownups. As
the boys struggle to survive and stay connected with society, the primitive nature of the boys
begin to appear. In the end, the group has completely disconnected from society and seem to have
reverted to a more tribal like behavior. The boys fall to savagery is described in several ways....

I was nervous at first because this was this was my first field work, and had just started the

Files of patients are filed in a secure cabinet. My field work was 60 hours of experience. My goals

I sat with Nikki as she wrote her documentations, and she read it out loud to me. I was able to
write several assessments with her on Pts. As I arrived for my shift, I checked the clipboard which
had the appointments for the day for each therapist. I also checked several times during my shift the
general appointment board which had the appointments of all physical therapists, speech therapists,
and OT specialists. Most appointments were booked for ВЅ hour increments, and the appointment
board was situated in the physical therapy room. Most Pts came from their room or another

Importance Of The Fourth Amendment
The fourth amendment was created to protect the individual rights form governmental intrusion.
The fourth amendment protects the right of the people to be secure against unreasonable searches
and seizures. This shall not be violated and no warrants shall issue unless it is upon probable cause.
It was established on December 15, 1791 during the colonial era. When the 4th Amendment became
part of the Constitution, it was originally only applied to the federal government. Then it was
applied to the states through the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment. The fourth
amendment is so important to American, because it is the natural right of the people and the
protection from intrusion. Now in society many people do not understand that the... Show more

To understand this situation I decided to look up cases that reflect on their fourth amendment being
violated. The case that stood out to me the most was Mapp vs. Ohio. In 1957, police officers
received an anonymous tip that Mapp was hiding a wanted man because he needed to be
questioned for a bombing. Then Police officers went to Mapp s house and wanted to search her
house. She then denied them entry, because she needed to see a warrant to let them in. After
some hours went by, the police officers forcibly entered her home and recalled that they received
a warrant. Then they proceeded with the search and found some books, pictures, and photographs
in violation of 2905.34 of Ohio s Revised Code. Then during her court trial she appealed her
sentence, because they did not receive a valid search warrant and the police officers violated her
rights. Even though they found her having possessions that were illegal, they could not hold it
against her. The issues with search and seizure are usually towards the issue of violating our
rights. One of the rights that we are getting violated is the right if privacy. It is the interest in
being free from observation that matters to us, because they always try to know what people are
saying and or doing without probable cause. Another way that this is an issue is because of the
technology that is being used to observe and survey us. One of the technologies being used is a
drone. Drones are an aircraft

The Musical Taste Is Subjective
Musical taste is subjective. Everyone has a different musical preference that depends on their age,
where they live, where they are from, what mood they are in, and so on. For example, according
to an interview with Freddy Matt who is a college student in New Jersey, I listen to music, which is
pop music, when I get bored, or when I want to be relaxed. Otherwise, usually I do not listen to
music (Matt). According to another interview with bar patron Tom Hunk, who is 35 years old, I
listen to music for fun. Friday and Saturday night, I do go to a bar in order to let myself go (Hunk).
These examples show that people listen to music with different purposes. On the other hand, people
listen music when they do sports such as running, weight lifting, walking, playing tennis, etc. Even
though they live in the same community, their perspective on music is different.
I have been living in Bergen County for two years, and I really want to explore our county s
musical culture. In order to look for the musical life and culture in Bergen County, I searched for
some musical stores and locations that are being used for live music. When I was searching for
venues, I found that many hired house bands, which gives us the opportunity of experiencing live
performance. For example, Dodo Orchestra is one of them. According to gigmasters.com: Dodo
Orchestra is a unique retro world jazz ensemble that has enchanted audiences with their vivacious

Toyota Electric Car Model Vs. Bmw
Since 1916, Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) has been one of the leading global vehicle
manufacturers (Company Portrait, n.d.). BMW is known for its German designed luxury mid
sized cars (Company Portrait, n.d.). This industry is rapidly changing as new competitors are
releasing more innovative and luxurious vehicles for lower prices and as a result, BMWhas been
losing market share (Stock, 2014). Through extensive research and deliberation, we recommend that
BMW should focus on pushing current BMW electric carmodels in the short term and invest in
research and development (R D) to design a stronger electric car model to better compete in the
industry.

This structural factor however also makes effective communication difficult among global
divisions, especially due to BMW s large number of product lines. This pattern of ineffective
communication has lead to BMW s delayed response to losing market share. By flattening its
structure and focusing on horizontal processes, BMW will be better equipped to manage rapidly
changing environments and to move quickly with new innovations and strategies.
BMW s current competitive advantage strategy is focused differentiation. Normally this type of
competitive advantage is that of an organization with a prospector strategy, constantly searching for
new opportunities to innovate (Daft and Armstrong, 2015). However, BMW has actually been
using a reactor strategy, responding to environmental changes in an ad hoc fashion, (Behrmann,
2016). The misalignment of the two strategies has further negatively affected BMW s ability to
cope with environmental changes and resulted in the loss of key personnel in its i series department
(citation).
Competitive Analysis
A recent major competitor of BMW is Tesla Motors, who has generated tremendous initial success
in the automotive industry with its disruptive technology. It produces electric vehicles which are
both innovative and sleek along with market leading specifications. With its impending Model 3

The Importance Of Population Development In Australia
200 years after Australia s Indigenous forcibly had to share their land, the growth of population and
development that Australia has experienced is unprecedented. Currently Australia s population
stands at 24 Million and it is on a continuous rise, due to a combination of both, a high birth rate and
a significant number of immigrants per annum. As a multicultural nation, the immigrationintake is a
major factor, and is said to have generated just over half (56%) of population growth, this is due to
the demand to settle permanently in Australia, work for an amount of time or study as student
(Wilson, 2017). Furthermore, interest in population policy was once again visited in 2010, when
the current Prime Minister Kevin Ruddproclaimed that he supported a Big Australia , along with a
released prediction that by 2050 Australia s population would reach 36 Million (Brown, 2011,
pp.1). However, the opposition leader Tony Abbott, took this opportunity to gather support from
the public, and argued for a sustainable population policy, and calling Rudd out on a reckless
commitment , which Julia Gillard once Rudd was ousted, was also quick to favour, focusing her
views on a sustainable approach to population growth (Brown, 2011, pp.2). The population policy
debate is widely discussed and a driver for public concern, but the birth rate and the rate of net
overseas migration is on a continuous high and both factors are relatively hard to control or predict.

Analysis Of The Movie Apocalypse Now Directed By Francis...
An Apocalyptic Reality How would you picture Hell? Many people would probably describe Hell
as a place where all you could see and feel is fire and brimstone. Where demons constantly torture
those unlucky enough to spend eternity in a place of unspeakable horrors. Not everyone thinks
this way and who knows if there even is a Hell; but for a group of soldiers led by U.S Captain of
special operations Benjamin Willard in the film Apocalypse Nowdirected by Francis Ford Coppola,
their Hell is all too real. Though it was not in the form of fire and demons, but in the Cambodian
jungle during Vietnam. The film follows the journey of Willard, who begins the movie in search
of a new mission because he feels his life has lost purpose and craves the battlefield once again.
What he doesn t know yet is that he may be in a little over his head with his next mission. The
mission, which is top secret, is to follow the fictional river Nung into the heart of the Cambodian
jungle to find rouge Colonel Walter E. Kurtz and terminate him with extreme prejudice. Kurtz
who was a highly decorated member of the military himself has plunged himself head first into
the heart of darkness and now commands a group of Montagnard troops who worship him as a
demigod. Willard then joins up with a navy PBR or patrol boat led by a man named Chief and
crewmembers Chef, Lance and Mr. Clean. As they make their way up the river Nung, many events

The s Hierarchy Of Needs Essay
1.Introduction
The meaning of brand has evolved over time, and different individuals have different
interpretations for brand . This essay will firstly brief the meaning of brand and explain an idea
that brand could be seen as a friend with an application of Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs . Next, to
have a better understanding of how brand has changed, the interviews for generation X and Y were
conducted. The research has found that Gen X still find it difficult to define brand and they regard
brand as a guarantee of product quality. Meanwhile, Gen Y have lots of ideas about brand and take
it as normal experiences in life.
2.What can brand be
Brand is and closely related to us; therefore, it could have both tangible and intangible impact on
our cultures and lives. The term, brand, derives from brandr which means to burn and it was
initially a method used by owners to mark cattle in order to identify their livestock (Interbrand
Group, 1992, cited in Keller, 2013, p.30). After several generations of evolution, the term brand has
been entitled various definitions to human beings.
2.1 Brand as a lifestyle
From the perspective of lifestyle, brand could be considered as a social signifier instead of just a
logo or a product; meanwhile brand stands for a social phenomenon rather than merely a process of
consumption (Kornberger, 2010). For example, the invention of iPhone, a physical entity, has
reshaped technology and lifestyles by transforming users habits

  • 2. The Differences Of Cruel And Unusual Punishment Cruel and Unusual Punishment If you had the choice would you rather die from being crushed by an elephant or by what the persians called Scaphism ? You could have rats dig through your flesh into your chest or be boiled alive (Eldridge 2017). It all sounds pretty tempting am I right? The eighth amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibits the federal government from imposing cruel and unusual punishment for federal crimes. What is cruel and unusual punishment? What are the differences between old medieval, Roman, Egyptian and, nowadays cruel and unusual punishments? To understand the topic of my paper we have to understand what cruel and unusual punishment means. Dictionary.com states that it is punishment prohibited by the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution. Cruel and unusual punishment includes torture, deliberately degrading punishment, or punishment that is too severe for the crime committed. This concept helps guarantee due process even to convicted criminals. Many people have argued that capital punishment should be considered cruel and unusual punishment (Dictionary.com 2017). Cruel; disposed to inflict pain or suffering, devoid of humane feelings, causing or conducive to injury, grief, or pain. Unusual; not usual : uncommon, rare. Punishment; suffering, pain, or loss that serves as retribution: a penalty inflicted on an offender through judicial procedure (Merriam Webster 2017). The labs later became Oracle Corporation and is now worth 42.5 billion (net). Many people look up towards Larry because he had to work for his place as the chief executive officer of Oracle and now has become one of the richest people in the world. Ellison is a very good leader in his corporation because he perseveres to get what oracle needs and is ruthless in the face of business. Larry also makes important decisions that impact the future of oracle. Larry was born August 17, 1944. • 4. Divine Law versus Human Law Essay Divine Law versus Human Law Sophocles famous play, Antigone, can be perceived as a conflict between individual conscience and state policy. Yet the issue of the play goes beyond that conflict and touches the universal conditions of suffering, religion, and loyalty. Through Antigone s character which represents the spheres of family loyalty, divine law, and human suffering, Sophocles conveys the idea that a law of man that violates religious law is not a law at all. He expresses this idea by having Antigone dutifully bury her brother s body although it is against King Kreon s ruling. Antigone s action is not only an act of family loyalty but is an act of piety demanded by the gods. The play commences with Antigone announcing her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suffering is a universal condition that the characters in the play must deal with. Since the day Polyneices and Eteokles died, Ismene suffers by not being capable of having emotions. She says to Antigone: Nothing makes me happy, nothing hurts me anymore (Sophocles 22). The loss of loved ones can cause one to suffer but to not honor those who died can cause a vast amount of distress. Because Eteokles was honorably buried and Polyneices was not, Antigone suffered for her brother; the guilt built every second he remained unburied. She does not regret burying her brother by saying, But if I had let my own brother stay unburied/I would have suffered all the pain I do not feel now (Sophocles 572 3). She would rather bury her brother and go against the state than live her life in pain. She is independent in her decision because she would is willing to suffer her own death so she won t suffer her brother s death any longer: I m ready to suffer for it and to die. /Let me. No suffering could be so terrible as to die for nothing (Sophocles 120 3). She is conveying that no matter what, she will suffer. If she does nothing for her brother she will suffer and if she does, she will suffer the death penalty. It is better, she concludes, to suffer and die out of loyalty to her own family. Although Ismene reminds Antigone of how their family s name ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compare And Contrast Crime And Punishment In Ancient Egypt This paper is to compare and contrast crime and punishment in the ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt mainly from the following three perspectives: religion, the purpose of punishment and women. In terms of religion, we can tell from the Laws of Hammurabi and the Egyptian papyri that the views of religion were both considered to be supreme in the ancient states. But there are some differences between the views of the religion, especially in the objective to which the people of two states believed in respectively. In the Laws of Hammurabi, there are some examples that prove the status of the nature, like the river, and, in some cases, the river was the symbol of justice which could prove whether the accused were guilty or not. People believed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case If a man violates the wife of another man, ..., this man shall be put to death... (law 150), it has no doubt that, in the ancient Mesopotamia, women had the equal right of succession and their lives and properties were protected by the laws which meant little discrimination between men and women. However, in the ancient Egypt, it was totally another world for women. • 7. Essay On Miss Brill By Marjane Satrapi And Katherine... All great authors and even average authors for that fact are influenced by events that happen in their lives. Having personal experiences to the authors allows a piece of writing to have more personality in my opinion because it isn t just something that is made up but is passed on real facts. Marjane Satrapi and Katherine Mansfield are both well known authors and they use events in their life to help write their stories. Marjane Satrapiwrote the graphic novelPersepolis and Katherine Mansfield wrote the story Miss Brill, both authors wrote more stories but these two pieces of writings are what I will focus a little more on. While Marjane Satrapi and Katherine Mansfield had events in their lives which influenced their work, I believe Marjane... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her life is influenced by this story because it is all about what it was like for her being a young adult and living in Iran with limitations for women. In her story it says The guardians of the revolution had been added to arrest women who were improperly veiled. (Satrapi 151) Satrapi wants her story to shed a light of the negative thoughts that people have for her country Iran because they can not fully understand till they live there (Marjane Satrapi Biography). Marjane s stories have a lot of references to important topics but in a way that will be appealing to her readers. With Katherine s story Miss Brill it seemed to me that she used the character in the story to represent her life because the character was becoming ill just like how she had Tuberculosis. In the story it says What has been happening to me? (Mansfield 135) and in this part of the story it is being shown how Miss Brill builds a fantasy life that way she does not have to face the truth about what is actually going on. • 8. Technology, Serbians, and Albanians in Power over People... Everything comes with pros and cons, and so are technology and utilization of air force. However, there are many incidents where people only remember the advantages while neglecting the side effects those brought. One of the famous incidents is Kosovo war that is known to bring human rights to people who are deprived of it due to their different ethnicity, but we cannot simply conclude that the Serbians were the aggressors and Albanians were the victims. Similarly, on the one hand, the superior technology acquired by the NATOand the US demonstrated that technology means power to achieve what they want. On the other hand, the technology that people developed can bring disaster to people by increasing the death rate during the war and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They reduced their cost by using the air force, and they saved RAF from its greedy rivals, the army and the navy. More importantly, it kept Iraq and its oil in the British sphere at lower cost than any other method, and it helped the Iraqi regime too. Although the use of air force is controversial, it is still cheap and effective way to panic and defeat the enemies. In both cases, the advancement in the technology, the air force, enabled them to be superior to their enemies and easily panic and achieve its main goal. These wars indicate that war enabled people to achieve what they want in faster and more efficient manner than before. Although air force is an effective way to drive the enemies out, they still have side effects and disadvantages just like everything else. Both incidents coincide in the idea that the technology though helped to end the war faster, it made more casualties. In case of Kosovo war, Gibbs stated before the attack of NATO, the death rate of all soldiers and civilians were about 2000. However, the number skyrockets when NATO starts its bombing campaign. Since the Serbs cannot defend against the superior technology, they relieved their anger to the Albanians. Moreover, the technology led to more casualties of both soldiers and the civilians. The technology also made the war longer. The air strikes made the Albanian military to move its base and aggravate them instead of giving up. Headrick had same perspective ... Both race have been subjected to hate due to the color of their skin, or race that they are. Genocide and slavery have been apart of the black and Jewish community due to the amount of hate that the were toward them races. Because of all the racismthat was going on between there were many speeches and many marches Held in predominantly Jewish and Black communities. What I find to be very interesting about the first amendment is that because we have freedom of speech the Klu Klux Klan also known as the KKK are able to hold meetings and speeches that they have against the black communities. Will this is a very difficult question for me to answer because I am an African American, so my first answer is to say no, but when I use my critical thinking that I have learned in this class I say yes they should be able to hold Hate speech. I look back to the famous speech in the black communities that were held to lead our way to freedom such as the I Have a dream Speech by martin Luther King or the Million Man March was held by Minster Farrakhan there were a lot of people that didn t believe in the movement that was happening during that time period but if it wasn t for the first amendment in the Bill of Rights Marches and Speeches would have never been able to ... • 11. Analysis Of Truman s The Truman Show The Truman Show is centred on a man made island called SeaHaven where a man named Truman Burbank has been televised without his knowledge since birth. The show is a 24 hour live tv show where every aspect of Truman s life is shown. As Truman grows older he begins to notice unsual events that leads him to believe that there is something incongruent with what people are telling him and what he experiences in his day to day life. As Truman begins to test the boundaries he realizes that the town seems to revolve around him and his desire to escape comes to an all time high. Eventually Truman begins on a journey to escape his virtual reality. Despite the boundaries that the director throws at him he eventually escapes and will try to find his way in the real world. This movie made me sympathize for Truman being that he has no privacy and is oblivious to his lack of freedom. This movie shows how it is possible to create an ideal community and how New Urbanism can be created and maintained. New Urbanism essentially promotes an inclusive community that is close in proximity, which the ccreator of the Truman Show creates. There is many positives that comes with New Urbanism most being that all aspects of the city would be in walking distance which results in reduced cars and mixed housing. New Urbanism brings on increased communication and interaction between individuals which is facilitated by a city centre. Mumford writes about how a city is a theatre of social action (CR page ... • 12. Analysis Of Lieutenant Cross Carried A Letter And... Lieutenant Cross carried a letter and pictures from Martha, a girl back home. His obsession with Martha distracts him from his duties as a platoon leader. He constantly finds himself fantasizing about her when he should be checking the perimeter or watching for ambushes. Lt. Cross not only carried the photographs of Martha, but he also carried his love for her and the pain of knowing she would never return his love. Martha had sent him a pebble from the Jersey shoreline. Lt. Cross carried it in his mouth while humping and pretended that he was back with Martha at college instead of in Vietnam. He sat wondering if she was a virgin while Lee Strunk crawled through an underground tunnel, and a Viet Congsniper shot Ted Lavender. The next morning Jimmy Cross burnt Martha s picture and her letters, but the guilt remained. He resolved to stop pining and act like a Platoon Leader. Each soldier carries the same standard issue protective gear and weapons that help him survive. But they also humped a variety of other items dictated by personal preferences, such as a Bible, comic books, foot powder, a hunting hatchet, and marijuana. Rank also dictated what they carried. Platoon leaders carried a pistol, RTO s carried the radio, medics carried morphine and syringes, big men carried machine guns, and regular grunts carried standard issue M 16 s among other equipment. Similarities Between The Princess And The Frog Prince First I would like to explain that I truly believe that there slim to no reasons that the most recent story which is the princess and the frog relates anything to Grimm s fairy tale The Frog Prince or Iron Henry. Correct terminology will be emphasised so that learners will understand terminology and start to use it in their specialist subject which would help learners if they need to communicate with building suppliers or work colleagues. • 38. Major Life Experiences In Tyler Oakley s Binge Discovering who you are in life is not always easy. Along the way you will learn multiple things about yourself, too. In the book, Binge, by Tyler Oakley, the author demonstrates that idea along with the fact that you should embrace your flaws. By going through some of his major life experiences in his point of view, the reader is able to understand how Oakley develops this idea. Social media star, Tyler Oakley, is looked up to for a variety of reasons, whether it be because of his funny personality or his caring heart. Either way, he is still human just like anyone else, meaning that he has endured difficult times and felt strong emotions. He says so himself, figuring out who I was in the world wasn t the easiest. He struggled when he came to the realization that he was gay, just like most members of the LGBTQ+ community do. He proceeds to go into depth about how he was accepted by a multitude of people, but others could not understand, including his own father. By sharing this experience in the way that he saw it, others in a similar situation can hopefully find some help through it. Oakley also mentions that he was taught that being yourself was not only okay, but encouraged and by being unapologetically yourself, you thrive and inspire others to thrive. In addition to this problem that he faced and overcame, Oakley also struggled with his body image growing up. He shares how he developed both anorexia and bulimia in an effort to change his image, but it was just a negative impact on his life. This is a common topic in society today, especially within... • 39. Difference Between Foundationalism And Coherentism 1. What is the traditional understanding of knowledge? Explain two theories of truth. What is the difference between foundationalism and coherentism? What is knowledge? What does knowledge mean and how does a person get to know something? And taking the step further than that how does a person know that the something is true? What is the basis for knowledge? There are two main forms of knowledge; a priori and empirical. A priori is knowledge that is independent from a person s experience and can be proven to be true by simple logic or basic definition of what is being stated. For example 2+2=4 is considered a priori type of knowledge because it can be proven true by using the mechanics of mathematics. The other type of knowledge is knowledge that can not be true without a personal experience to give justification to why it is true, this knowledge is called empirical knowledge. Empirical knowledge is much harder to prove to be true just by the nature of where the justification comes from. An example of this is that the writing is in blue ink the statement can only be true if I had seen for myself that the writing was done in blue ink because by definition writing does not have to be in blue ink. To solve this problem, Plato would say that knowledge is a justified true belief and gives us specific steps to work through this problem. This means the person making the claim must be able to justify it in someway. The claim in itself must be true. And the person must believe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The English Colonies In North America J Taiya CarrREFLECTION PAPER 2HIS 201June 15, 2016 The English colonies in North America were slowly separating themselves from the crown. It starts with radical kings in Europe who cause so much disruption that a civil war occurs. The colonies worked together to fend for themselves and survived quite well without the crown and Parliament watching over them. England was not aware of it but every little thing they did to try reasserting command over the colonies only pushed them farther away. If England had always kept a firm hand on the colonies, we would be speaking proper English and marveling at our queen in the twenty first century. One of the mistakes England made was allowing King James II to try enforcing control upon the colonies... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... George Greenville could be blamed for all of it since he was chief minister and developed some of these ideas. The colonists were not happy with Parliament s decisions to them without their consent, especially since Britain s were the only ones able to be taxed since they had elected representatives in Parliament. The Quartering Act seemed to be one of the last straws. The colonists believed their requirement to house and feed British troops was England s way of trying to dominate them. Thanks to Greenville, the Sons of Liberty was created in protest of the laws created and wide spread protests began. The Stamp Act would soon be repealed and Greenville replaced, but Parliament would pass the Declaratory Act to assert their power to create laws over the colonies. It almost looked as if they were asking for a rebellion. The Sons of Liberty grew stronger, protests larger, and the unfortunate Boston massacre happened. The death of a few individuals by the hand of British soldiers influenced Parliament to repeal many but not all acts. The tip of the ice berg was the Boston Tea Party. Due to disguises, the British did not know who committed the act and decided to punish all of Boston. The end of result of all this was the first Continental Congress that wrote a declaration, most likely practice for the big declaration that would be written in a few years, that ... It has been said that Arnold should have been the captured and killed instead of Andre. Major Andre made multiple impacts on the US National Defense. While the mission he set out to complete failed, Andre broke down the safety net the US thought they had. By gaining the trust of Arnold and setting up the plan to take over West Point, Andre was the hole in what was set to be a perfect American plot. If he did not get caught the outcome for the war would have been a different scene. The Americans thought they had a fool proof plan when in reality they had one of the biggest traitors history has ever seen in Benedict Arnold. For Andre to get Peggy on board to help with getting Arnold on board took time and patience. The plan would have worked fully if the ship, Vulture, would not have been moved downstream after Andre got the information from Arnold. This whole incident made the Americans realize that there could be more spies among them, and therefore Washington had Andre executed, to set an example for future spies. It goes into detail to describe how companies have become increasingly more likely to sell sex in advertisements for products that, in reality, are entirely unrelated. Kilbourne focuses primarily on how this is harmful to society especially women and children and how they are viewed by men, though men may also be targeted if not nearly as frequently. In a similar article called Taking a Bite Out of Twilight, Carmen D. Siering shares her disapproval of the popular novel adored by so many: Twilight. Represented by the iconic red apple held in a women s palm with a sinister black backdrop, Twilight is a modern fairytale where the prince belongs to a monstrous society of blood sucking models, and the princess is your average, plain Jane highschool girl with a knack for getting into trouble. Siering s opinion is most basically this: Bella is objectified and downgraded in the Twilight series; a character created solely to compliment the plot propelled by male characters. Where the majority of the population sees an aching, beautiful and dangerous romance, Siering sees a controlling relationship and a dull female lead. Kilbourne s article brings to light how Siering s article, directed at Stephenie Meyers readers, is so accurate with the the recommendation that everyone become more aware of the messages they are absorbing from media as it snakes its way into society s ... The case that stood out to me the most was Mapp vs. Ohio. In 1957, police officers received an anonymous tip that Mapp was hiding a wanted man because he needed to be questioned for a bombing. Then Police officers went to Mapp s house and wanted to search her house. She then denied them entry, because she needed to see a warrant to let them in. After some hours went by, the police officers forcibly entered her home and recalled that they received a warrant. Then they proceeded with the search and found some books, pictures, and photographs in violation of 2905.34 of Ohio s Revised Code. Then during her court trial she appealed her sentence, because they did not receive a valid search warrant and the police officers violated her rights. Even though they found her having possessions that were illegal, they could not hold it against her. The issues with search and seizure are usually towards the issue of violating our rights. One of the rights that we are getting violated is the right if privacy. It is the interest in being free from observation that matters to us, because they always try to know what people are saying and or doing without probable cause. Everyone has a different musical preference that depends on their age, where they live, where they are from, what mood they are in, and so on. For example, according to an interview with Freddy Matt who is a college student in New Jersey, I listen to music, which is pop music, when I get bored, or when I want to be relaxed. Otherwise, usually I do not listen to music (Matt). According to another interview with bar patron Tom Hunk, who is 35 years old, I listen to music for fun. Friday and Saturday night, I do go to a bar in order to let myself go (Hunk). These examples show that people listen to music with different purposes. On the other hand, people listen music when they do sports such as running, weight lifting, walking, playing tennis, etc. Even though they live in the same community, their perspective on music is different. I have been living in Bergen County for two years, and I really want to explore our county s musical culture. • 57. Toyota Electric Car Model Vs. Bmw Since 1916, Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) has been one of the leading global vehicle manufacturers (Company Portrait, n.d.). BMW is known for its German designed luxury mid sized cars (Company Portrait, n.d.). This industry is rapidly changing as new competitors are releasing more innovative and luxurious vehicles for lower prices and as a result, BMWhas been losing market share (Stock, 2014). Through extensive research and deliberation, we recommend that BMW should focus on pushing current BMW electric carmodels in the short term and invest in research and development (R D) to design a stronger electric car model to better compete in the industry. This structural factor however also makes effective communication difficult among global divisions, especially due to BMW s large number of product lines. This pattern of ineffective communication has lead to BMW s delayed response to losing market share. By flattening its structure and focusing on horizontal processes, BMW will be better equipped to manage rapidly changing environments and to move quickly with new innovations and strategies. BMW s current competitive advantage strategy is focused differentiation. Normally this type of competitive advantage is that of an organization with a prospector strategy, constantly searching for new opportunities to innovate (Daft and Armstrong, 2015). However, BMW has actually been using a reactor strategy, responding to environmental changes in an ad hoc fashion, (Behrmann, 2016). The misalignment of the two strategies has further negatively affected BMW s ability to cope with environmental changes and resulted in the loss of key personnel in its i series department (citation). Competitive Analysis A recent major competitor of BMW is Tesla Motors, who has generated tremendous initial success in the automotive industry with its disruptive technology. It produces electric vehicles which are both innovative and sleek along with market leading specifications. With its impending Model 3 release, its first affordable electric vehicle for mass adoption, Tesla is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. The Importance Of Population Development In Australia 200 years after Australia s Indigenous forcibly had to share their land, the growth of population and development that Australia has experienced is unprecedented. Currently Australia s population stands at 24 Million and it is on a continuous rise, due to a combination of both, a high birth rate and a significant number of immigrants per annum. As a multicultural nation, the immigrationintake is a major factor, and is said to have generated just over half (56%) of population growth, this is due to the demand to settle permanently in Australia, work for an amount of time or study as student (Wilson, 2017). Furthermore, interest in population policy was once again visited in 2010, when the current Prime Minister Kevin Ruddproclaimed that he supported a Big Australia , along with a released prediction that by 2050 Australia s population would reach 36 Million (Brown, 2011, pp.1). However, the opposition leader Tony Abbott, took this opportunity to gather support from the public, and argued for a sustainable population policy, and calling Rudd out on a reckless commitment , which Julia Gillard once Rudd was ousted, was also quick to favour, focusing her views on a sustainable approach to population growth (Brown, 2011, pp.2). The population policy debate is widely discussed and a driver for public concern, but the birth rate and the rate of net overseas migration is on a continuous high and both factors are relatively hard to control or predict.
