Management of Delirium in the ICU
Introduction
Delirium is a serious condition that can affect patients in and outside the hospital. With its presence
being unknown to many nurses and providers, delirium has significant long term complications that
can last well beyond discharge. Noise, medication, and infection are significant in the development
and progression of delirium and these are more than abundant within intensive care patients. The
importance of nurse s knowledge cannot be stressed enough regarding the assessment, symptoms, and
interventions of delirium, in an effort to decrease its occurrence ... Show more content on

With each additional risk factor the likely hood of developing delirium increases. Not only does
delirium increase the cost of patients stay it can also increase the mortality rate. Of all diagnosed
delirious patients 25% will likely have permanent cognitive impairments, and more critically, those
patients who do develop delirium have a three to five fold increase in mortality.
The importance of assessing for delirium cannot be stressed enough. Dr Tsuei preformed a study that
demonstrated frequent assessment, categorized as every four awake hours, increased the detection of
delirium by 55% compared to a once daily delirium assessment. This indicates that once daily
assessment for delirium is not sufficient and no assessment is severely deficient. In assessing for
delirium every four awake hours, we increase the reporting and thus treatment of this fatal illness.
Though there is no specific treatment for delirium at this time certain medication recommendations
have been made as well as improving nursing interventions to decrease delirium. The American
Association of Critical Care Nursing, AACN recommends the use of the ICDSC and the CAM ICU
for assessment of delirium. The ICDSC has been in use since 1990 and the CAM since 2001. The
CAM is broken down into four separate components that must be established in order. First one must
determine if the patient s mental status is different from their baseline. Second, identify if the patient is
suffering from

Difference Between A Pert And Gantt Chart
Compare and contrast the information that one receives from a Gantt chart, versus that of a PERT
diagram A significant piece of project management is organization. Both Pert and Gantt charts are
essential tools that are utilized by project managers in creating a project schedule. Both types of charts
offer tools for managers to examine projects through visualization, helping divide responsibilities into
controllable parts. An important difference between a PERT chart and a Gantt chart is the way the
information is presented. Gantt charts display information in the design of a bar chart. This
representation helps show the percentage of work accomplished for each task. On the other hand,
PERT shows data as a network model. Meaning that a PERT chart displays an earlier node from which
tasks branch out. This helps project managers envision the arrangement of tasks. Together PERT and
Gantt charts will show the tasks to be accomplished, but the charts highlight dissimilar parts. A Gantt
chart s primary focus is on the ratio completion of each task, without indicating the connection that
two tasks may have to each other. While PERT typically does not show the percentage completed,
PERT employs a network model, which makes it is easy to see which tasks depend on each other, it
typically does not show the percentage of completed tasks. Examine the advantages of using a Gantt
chart over a PERT chart and vice versa. Determine when it is appropriate to use one

Summary Of Tim Winton s Short Story Big World
Discovery of self may be a common process that can improve and deepen understanding of the
individuals and the world around them. It is through these new understandings that individuals are
able to both reunite with themselves and the wider society. This concept is presented clearly in the
poem The door by Miroslav Holub representing that change in self involves taking chances and
opportunities and the positive consequences of change. Holub conveys change as an individual s
commitment to take new opportunities presented to them, resulting in a new perspective of life. The
short story Big world by Tim Winton reveals that self exploration and the substantial growth and
development happen through findings that contain experiences, which challenge ... Show more

The short story Big world by Winton emphasizes the intention that there are moments, people, times
and places that can change how individuals view the world around them and how the perceive
themselves. Much like the protagonist s experience in the film Life of Pi , so does Winton s
protagonists in the short story display final epiphany come as a outcome of his loneliness. He is
isolated because of the plot twist made by Meg, who in the story builds a connection with his best
friend, Biggie while they are on a road trip. It is through his segregation and observing them that he
then realises and notices a ominous truth about himself and the relationship he has with Biggie: ... he s
enjoying being brighter than her...it s me all over. It s how I am with him and its not pretty. Through
this, the protagonist suffers, realising the detrimental and unproductive environment of his
relationship. This epiphany leads him to become even more secluded and alert that he must move on if
he is to find and discover joy and progress. The story also reconnoitres the idea of change of self and
attitudes towards others, where moments can express a person s perspective towards others around
them and life. This statement is accurate as the narrator comes to terms with his attachment with
Biggie, that s how it started. A single decisive

An Analysis Of Hitchcock s The Caged Birds Versus The...
Psychologists have suggested the idea that correlation does not imply causation. In The Birds, viewers
find themselves unable to identify the purpose or the cause for the birds attacks. Hitchcock does not
want us to know the answers either, since Hitchcock marvels at his ability to make viewers question
his films and struggle at truly enjoying without fully understanding them. Although this essay cannot
find a cause for the attacks in the town or to the characters that seem to be innocent like the children
and the old man in the farm, it should shed some light on the correlation between the timing of the
attacks near the Brenner family and Melanie and their internal struggle. The symbolism of the caged
birds versus the free birds, the Jocasta complex Lydia struggles with, and the imagery of the light
versus darkness when the birds attack represent the journey Mitch and Melanie face in trying to be
together. First we must make the distinction between caged and free birds. The caged birds signify a
well mannered, tamed, and socially acceptable human being while the free birds, or rather the birds
that attack, have the liberty to act in opposition to the caged ones. In the beginning scene, after
Melanie s attempt to impress Mitch, Mitch salvages the bird she mistakenly let escape and as he puts it
back in its cage says, Back in your gilded cage Melanie Daniels . This metaphorical cage Melanie
resides in is one made up of riches where she is spoiled and superficial, but she

Vibration transmission has been reported to cause back problems because of tissue failure or from
metabolic interference, or a combination of both.
Vibration occurs in all moving bodies and tractors are no exception. It results from the interaction of
the vehicle with the rough terrain and from the power source. The level of ride vibration on tractors
during normal operation frequently exceeds the internationally accepted levels. The analysis of the
ride vibration is a complex issue especially for off road condition, as the vibration is in category of
multi degree of system and cawed by many components, in the system. Operating speed, surface
conditions, wheel air pressure, tire cas stiffness, mounting mechanism of the seat, cab or body parts
cause infirnth variable outcome.
A considerable amount of time and energy has been spent in minimizing this vibration problem.
Suspended seats fitted to most tractors reduce the vertical component of vibration, but the levels are
still undesirably high and there is little potential for further improvement using this technique. A
further reduction in the vibration level may be obtained by introducing wheel suspension, but it makes
the system complicated and costly. Cab suspension is another method of

Driving While Drowsy Research Paper
Ever since the first automobile accident, which occurred in London in 1896, road safety is a critical
issue for all road drivers. Nearly 1.3 million people die due to car accidents globally every year,
amounting to 3,274 deaths each and every day, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has
projected that estimate will rise as much as 65% by the year 2020. However, knowing the top causes
for car accidents can increase your awareness while on the road, and help you get to your destination
safely.
Driving While Distracted

Driving While Speeding
If you increase your speed from 40 mph to 60 mph, the amount of energy released during a car

due to reduced reaction times, is the second most common cause of car accidents and is a double
threat to your safety. Not only does speeding magnify your risk of a car accident occurring, but also
the faster you go, the likelihood the crash is severe or fatal vastly increases. Paying attention and

Health Disparities Among Homeless Women And Their Children
Health Disparities Among Homeless Women and Their Children
Geraldine Barron
Denver School of Nursing
Cohort C Health Disparities Among Homeless Women and Their Children
Health care disparities is known for its vulnerability among low income and minority status
populations. Of most concern are the vulnerable population subgroups known by the harsh
environments in which they live, their endangered and unhealthy life styles and the illnesses and
injuries that afflict them. These subpopulations include refugees and immigrants, people living with
acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), alcohol and substance abusers, high risk mothers and
infants, victims of family or other violence, and the chronically ill (Teruya, Longshore, Andersen,
Arangua, Nyamathi, Leake Gelberg, 2010, p.1). Among these vulnerable sub populations, one with
some of the greatest health and health care disparities, is the homeless especially homeless women and
their children (Teruya et al., 2010, p.1).
People often think that homelessness only affects men and women but in reality homelessness also
affects families It is estimated that 3.5 million Americans experience homelessness every year. Among
this group, 17 percent are single women and 30 percent are families with children (Finfgeld Connet,
2010, p.1). It is said that women along with their children are among the fastest growing homeless
population and not only does it impact women but it also impacts their children significantly.

Ode to a Nightingale This essay discusses the numerous...
In his poem Ode to a Nightingale, John Keats uses powerful, distinct symbolism and imagery. The
nightingale, for instance, is interpreted by many to be a symbol of Keats poetic inspiration and
satisfaction. This symbolism can be seen by the vivid descriptions Keats hives the nightingale.
However, the nightingale is definitely not the only item of symbolism in Ode to a Nightingale. In a
short piece of art, Keats apparently has mastered using many different items, phrases, and brilliant,
descriptive metaphorical text to symbolize something he yearns for. Countless pieces of the poem
indicate that he also wishes for immortality and the ability to escape from reality and into another state
of consciousness and the ecstasy of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By an effort of the imagination, Keats attempts to suppress all knowledge of the human
suffering made evident in stanza three. He seeks to completely enter into the ecstasy of the nightingale
s song so he becomes nothing more than an instrument recording the tiniest of physical sensation. For
example, in stanza five, Keats describes the beauty of a place in the most minute detail. Since he is
unable to actually see this place, he is using the sheer force of his imagination. In this particular
stanza, the use of imagery is indeed present. The soft sounds and descriptions of flowers yield a very
enchanting and beautiful atmosphere. Where Keats says, Now more than ever seems it rich to die, / To
cease upon the midnight with no pain, / While thou art pouring forth thy soul abroad / In such an
ecstasy! (lines 55 58), is an indication of how he believes it would be marvelous for his life to end in
such a state of blissful heaven. However, the irony of this is that, in Keats case, death would mean the
end of the nightingale s song. He realizes this when he says, Still wouldst thou sing, and I have ears in
vain / to thy high requiem become a sod. (lines 59 60). This piece is an indication of Keats
enchantment with the nightingale and its song.

The Censorship Of Canadian Content
Rules revolving around Canadian Content (CanCon) have been set in place since the 1920 s. In 2005,
revisions to the 1991 Broadcasting Act were made. Since this revision was made there have been
further changes to the Act trying to create the best set of rules for CanCon to be broadcasted (Dewing,
2011). CanCon is an outdated concept that is causing consumers to switch to other forms of media.
The CanCon rules cannot determine what is considered Canadian and they cannot keep up with the
ever changing forms of media. Canadian producers are only getting a slim portion of the industry even
with the rules in place. Therefore CanCon rules should be totally eliminated.
While technology is getting better and people have begun streaming different forms of media online,
the government has been slow on updating the rules that regulate broadcasted Canadian Content
(Mejaski, 2011). Due to the rapid development of digital technology CanCon rules are now outdated.
This is causing the distinction between broadcasting and telecommunications to be blurred. New
technology has resulted in fragmentation. This refers to the idea that there are is a growing number of
courses that now have to be regulated by CanCon (Dewig, 2011). With the world technologically
progressing Canada has to focus on the idea that the world is becoming borderless. This idea comes
from the thought that technology is bringing the world closer together because everyone is
interconnected now. This will result in the power

Essay about Cultural Relativism
If we look at the world today, there are millions of cultures centered everywhere. With this much
cultures in the world, everyone is bound to believe that they re all different. Even though they are
different in some aspects, all of them are similar to each other in some way. So if this is the case, do
we as human beings have the right to judge these cultures as ethically wrong or just a cultural
difference? Cultural Relativism is the belief that we cannot judge the cultural practices of other
societies and that we should let them do as they please. But if we cannot judge them, does it make it
right when they threaten the lives of others? Through the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe,
we begin to have a deeper insight this idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of those rights is the right to freedom of thought, which means that every human being has the
right to believe in what they want to believe. As a result, no person should judge other beliefs because
they ll just influence others to do the same. In the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 18
states that, Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, and that the right
includes, freedom to change his religion...either alone or in a community... Through this right,
everyone can believe what they want we have no right to judge. If we judge them, then we ourselves
infringe on everyone s right to be equal (article 1). Through cultural relativism, everyone can keep
their rights and the world would rest in peace without any unnecessary fights. Instead of trying to
judge the cultural beliefs of others, we could instead attempt to gain a better understanding of their
beliefs. An example is in Things Fall Apart, where Mr. Brown and Akunna talk to each other in hopes
that they would convert each other. They both have different views on religion; Mr. Brown believes in
Christianity while Akunna believes in multiple gods. However, instead of immediately judging the
beliefs of each other, they sit down and talk to each other peacefully about it. In the end, they learn
that their religions are not as different as they had first thought. They both have one supreme God and
they both have

The Crucifixion By Brecht Durer Analysis
Brecht Durer once said, What beauty is, I know not, though it adheres to many things. Brecht Durer
was a German painter, print maker, and theorist who was born on May 21, 1471 and died on April 6,
1528 in Nuremberg, Germany. His extensive work in printmaking established his reputation in
Europe, making him one of the leading artists of the Renaissance period. A print is a work of art made

subjects and revealed technical skills that had never before been seen. Woodcut is a technique in
printmaking where the artist carves images from a piece of wood. Then it is covered with a thin layer
of ink so the carved parts remain ink less. His woodcut piece, The Crucifixion, was made in
Nuremberg, Germany in 1498 during the Northern Renaissance period. This print is one out of a series

Ibo VS Afghan Festivals/Holidays
The daily life of every human being has been refined by the lifestyle passed down from one s

sort of celebration and/or a holiday. Through the schedules of people s lives, there are special
occasions in which are celebrated for different reasons. Usually, these days are eagerly awaited for and

preparation and style of celebration, but also have major differences in the reason for celebration. In

likely to have a lower birth weight than his or her counterparts. Low birth rate is a contributing factor
in infant mortality within the first year of the child s life. Additionally, children born in poverty have
lower IQ test scores and have less school achievements when compared to their counterparts. Because
poverty impacts cognitive development more than physical, it is likely, that poverty will persist
through subsequent generations. Further, nutrition, or the lack of, is one factor that contributes to the
development of a child. One study suggests that children in poverty are twenty two times more likely
to suffer from maltreatment than those children not in poverty. The poverty rate in comparison state is
twenty two percent, which is the second highest in the country and equal to the national rate of
children living in poverty. Children born into poverty, on average, live in poverty until he or she is
eight years old. Therefore, it is important to provide services to people living in poverty to help them
understand their situation and provide them with the resources necessary to break the poverty cycle.

Introduction to Human Services, BSHS302 Therez Moya June 16, 2008 The Housing First Initiative 2
Abstract The Housing First Initiative is a systematic method to end and prevent the reoccurrence of
homelessness. The ideology behind Housing First is that homeless participants focus on obtaining
permanent housing as a first step and work towards achieving goals towards self sufficiency as a
secondary objective. The dynamic component in the Housing First model is the collaboration between
service providers within the community in order to promote independence for the participant and to

Full Metal Jacket Movie Citation
In Full Metal Jacket, directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1987 The film opens with military recruits getting
their heads shaved as a way to signify their identities being taken away. From the get go, audiences
know that this is not going to be an easy experience for these men, Pyle, one of the main characters of
the movie struggles to keep up with the basic requirements of the physical training. Joker, who is
another main character of the movie is promoted to squad leader and is given Pyle as an assignment of
personal responsibility to help him to get better. After this mental tormenting of Pyle and all of the
brutal things he had to go through, something snaps inside of him and he becomes a different person.

When being put in a group filled with others who are the exact opposite it is hard for him to keep up
with the group. Because of this, Pyle is constantly picked on by the drill sergeant. Whenever Pyle is
physically unable to do a task he is belittled. He is punished at first by sucking his thumb, pulling
down his pants, or is punished by doing push ups. Pyle can t do a pull up as well, it is shown in the
background of the movie that everyone else can do at least one. This all shows the contrast between
Pyle and the rest of his group. When Pyle is pushed to the capacity in terms of physical beatings after
the soap incident it is clear that he is mentally broken. Pyle had been making progress before this, but
his progress was slower than the others. Being beaten for doing good work is the exact opposite of
positive reinforcement. On the night before graduation Pyle is pushed past the point of physical and
mental damage. This leads Pyle to his ultimate decision to take out his anger on his drill sergeant who
physically tormented him by killing

Executive Summary
Microsoft (MS) is a multinational computer technology corporation that develops, manufactures,
licenses, and supports a wide range of software products for computing devices. In the mid 1990 s,
Microsoft held the monopoly in the production of Operating Systems (OS) for personal computers
(PC). When their monopoly was threatened by Netscape, MS began bundling the Internet Explorer
(IE) web browser with Windows, using cross promotional deals with internet service providers (ISP),
and prevented PC makers from customizing the opening screen showing Microsoft. These actions,

To win the browser war , MS exploited its pricing and distribution strategy for IE.
First, MS tied IE to Windows 95 and potentially its successors. As MS s Christian Wildfeuer wrote in

Home Building Industry
Home Building Industry How does the home building industry affected by the economy? This is what
we will be exploring in the paper. There are different areas within the industry that can be affected.
First we will look at supply and demand. Then continue to the positive and negative externalities, and
how wages inequality is measured. Then finally, we will look at the monetary and fiscal policies that
affect the housing industry. With the information we will have a better understanding of how the home
building industry is affected. When looking at prices within an industry, we need to first look at the
supply and demand. For home builders this market has been fluctuating for awhile. The gross

trying to get rid of the inventory they have before building more. The externalities within the industry
are ever changing. The changes all depends on the buyers needs, if it positive or negative. As the
demand lower for building new homes so does the demand for labor. Final the government rules and
the distribution of permits are a factor. All the factors from the economy affect the housing industry.
Furthermore it affects what we paid of houses in our area.

Burning Marshmallow
If 10.0g of solid baking soda is poured into 30 mL of citric acid, then a reaction will occur and an
increase in temperature will be observed. Whereas, if a piece of magnesium metal is added to 30 mL
of Hydrochloric Acid, then a reaction will occur and an increase in temperature will be observable.
For Part 3 of the experiment, if 50 mL of tap water is placed in a can 2.5 cm inches above a burning
marshmallow, then through the process of calorimetry the energy content of the marshmallow should
be 5.0kJ/g (the value provided by the United States Department of Agriculture). Reactions that give
off heat as a product are known as exothermic reactions, whereas reactions that absorb heat are known
as endothermic reactions (Van Hecke, 1999). An example of an exothermic reaction would be
condensation, in which water loses energy, and an example of an endothermic reaction would be
melting, in which water gains energy. These two types of reactions are studied to better understand the
properties and future potential of substances. For example, recent studies prove that the addition of
endothermic chemicals in fire retardant substances effectively stops fires by rapidly cooling the
temperature and preventing and re ignition (Tripathi, 2008). This is important because determining
what reactions are endothermic or exothermic can better improve techniques to prevent disasters such
as a fire. If an unknown substance is exothermic, in terms of fire combustibility, adding it to a fire

Parasailing Paradise Short Story
Parasailing Paradise
I was terrified, but I didn t know why. I ve done this previously, six years ago, but I was still scared.
Okay everybody began the worker, the boat has arrived and it is time to board. She began to lead me,
my sister Madison, my dad, his girlfriend, and a few other people towards a dock. She was easy to
follow due to her canary yellow shirt as bright as the sun beaming down on us.
Once we arrived to the ten person boat floating back and forth next to the dock, we were helped up
onto the boat. As soon as I set my foot down my legs began to wobble. Sea legs my dad said as he
watched me stumble and collapse into the stiff cushioned chair.
After everyone finished laughing the captain, with a sharp turn that sent everyone flying to the side,
began to head off towards open water.
It s about a two hour trip trip the captain and his assistant informed all of us as we exited the jetty. On
our way out you will see a lot of aquatic life wildlife. This includes pelicans, dolphins, sea turtles and
much more he also said. Minutes later a young girl abruptly shouted Look! Three dolphins! Everyone
craned their necks to see them while trying not to lose balance. Their dorsal fins sliced through the
water and within seconds they disappeared as quickly as they showed up.
We continued out, bouncing in the buoyant water, for fifteen minutes until we heard the propellers
turn off. Alright everyone time to begin the captain stated. He and his assistant began to

Antisemitism in the Middle Ages
In the year of 1492, most people instantly think of the Columbus discovery of the New World. But in
the joy of the discovery of the New World also comes the tragedy of the Old World. The Spanish
Inquisition was one of the darkest periods of time in Jewish history. Christianity s view of other
religions as inferior is portrayed in many well known pieces of literature, including one of William
Shakespeare s most famous plays, The Merchant of Venice. Towering over Shakespeare s romantic
comedy The Merchant of Venice is the tragic figure of Shylock, a man who represents the treatment of
the Jewish people in his time period. Before beginning to understand Shylock, it is vital to understand

A decision was eventually made and the Venetian Republic decided to allow them to remain and
ordered the segregation of the Jews of the city in a special quarter, formerly known as Ghetto Nuova, a
small, dirty island which became the world s first ghetto. A little later, the Ghetto Vecchio, was added
to the district. Hence the term Ghetto spread throughout Italy, where the Jewish quarters, compulsorily
established in subsequent years, became known officially by this name, (Roth. 273.)
Jews of Italian and German origin both moved into this ghetto. The Germans came to Venice to seek
refuge from of persecution in their former communities, while the Italians came from Rome and from
the South, where they faced anti Semitism.
Jews from the Levant, who practiced Sephardic traditions, moved into Ghetto Vecchio in 1541. The
Spanish and Portuguese Jews also came to Venice in the late 16th century and were the strongest and
wealthiest community in the ghetto. Many of the Spanish and Portuguese Jews were Marranos and
became Jewish again once moving to Venice. The Spanish/Portuguese and Levantines lived in the
Ghetto Vecchio.
The German, Italian and Levantine communities were independent, yet lived side by side to one
another. A hierarchy existed among them, in which the Sephardic/Levantine Jews were at the top of
the scale, Germans in the middle and Italians at the lowest rung on the hierarchal ladder.

Physical Similarities Within Family
What causes physical similarities within family? Why do cells replicate the way they do? What
remains the heart of all living organisms from viruses to a blue whale? The answer is simple. All
living organisms on this planet are connected through DNA.
Any body is made up of cells. Within these cells, several organelles function for a specific function
whether it be somatic or sex cells. The central region which regulates all activity of a cell is the
nucleus. In the nucleus, a macromolecule named DNA stores all information. Stated simply, DNA is
the blueprint to every living being on earth. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7ET4bbkTm0) It is
as a brain which regulates growth, division and even reproduction.

In DNA, the sugar is known as deoxyribose. Obvious through its name, the structure of the molecule
is arranged in a closed pentagon with 5 carbon atoms along with OH bonds and oxygen atoms. the
DNA can be classified as a pentose monosaccharide.
The phosphate group in DNA covalently bonds to the pentose sugar to form a polynucleotide strand (

The nitrogenous base bonds with deoxyribose to complete the DNA strand. There are two types of
bases purines and pyrimidines. Purines and considerably larger and consist of adenine and guanine
whereas the pyrimidines are cytosol, uracil and thymine.
Uracil is not part of DNA and will be discussed later.
Therefore, 4 main nitrogenous bases form the nucleotides. Since DNA is arranged in two strands, one
strand in bonded to the other by these nitrogenous bases. This is known as base pairing. There is a set
pair for each base.
Guanine will always bond to Cytosine whereas thymine always bonds to adenine. The molecular
shapes of the molecules are such that only the set pairs can bond. Therefore, knowing one nucleotide,
a person can deduce the Source

Contemporary Issues in Nursing
In today s world of nursing, there are efforts to improve patient care at hospitals. Severalstates across
America are considering implementing nursing ratio laws. This ratio law wouldrequire hospitals to
have strict nurse to patient ratios enforced at all times. Only California hasimplemented nursing ratios
so far and it has been the subject of mixed reviews. Steps the legislation went throughThroughout the
1990 s, health care labor unions in California tried to implement nursestaffing laws through legislation
and ballot initiatives. The California Nurses Association (CNA)campaigned for several years to
constitute a mandated nurse to patient ratio system in California. The first endeavor was in 1993 when

Hospitals that staff 1 nurse to less than 5 patients also have a lower incidence of patientfalls,
medication errors and nosocomial infections (MacPhee, M., et al, 2006). Improved RN topatient ratios
also have a reduced rate of pneumonia, urinary tract infections, shock, cardiacarrest, gastrointestinal
bleeding, and other adverse outcomes in acute care settings. Recentresearch indicates that the cost of
the RN to patient ratio law is considerably lower than the costof basic safety interventions commonly
used in hospitals such as PAP tests for cervical cancerand clot busting medications to treat stroke and
heart attacks. Shorter lengths of stay have alsobeen reported since the ratio laws took place
(Needleman, J., et al, 2002)HistoryCalifornia became the first state to mandate minimum nurse
staffing ratios. Suggestionsfor nurse to patient ratios have been specified in union contracts at
hospitals in several otherstates. Since California passed AB 394, related bills were introduced in many
other states suchas Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The cause for staffing
ratios was aresult of average patient acuity in the state of California rising and projected increases for
acuitylevels to keep increasing through the next 20 years (Institute for Health, 2001). AB 394
mayhave a major impact on demand for nursing personnel, the adequacy of nursing supply and
thequality of nursing care provided to consumers. Nursing unions in California

Use of Food in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis...
Search for food, reproduction, sleep; the primal needs for every uni and multicellular organism is to
consume in order to survive and by doing so ensuring the continued existence of its own species. As a
consequence, eating and drinking is not only an individual but also a common necessity; it is the basis
of a civilization (Keeling 5). But food is more than just nutrition; it can be pleasure or temptation, and
the way how or what is consumed is always as well a mark [for] humankind s morality (qtd. in ibid.:
6). Therefore, it is not surprising that the universal experience of food occupies an important place
within every culture (Katz 197 8). It was Eve s lusty bite into an apple that caused, according to

(ibid. 62). In the Brothers Grimm version of Hansel and Gretel, famine is the reason for the
woodcutter to abandon his children, but after the witch s death the siblings find precious jewellery
providing enough wealth not to suffer starvation again . Fairy tales often promised plenty of food to
satisfy hunger (ibid. 62 3); a mere fantasy which was supposed to satiate the reader s appetite in
literature since it often could not be satisfied in their everyday life. But besides the satisfying effect of
fictional food, Hansel and Gretel already hints at a more negative approach to food. The siblings are
tempted by the witch s house consisting of bread and sweets. Especially evangelical discourses
demanded dieting to resist the temptation of sins like gluttony or sloth (Labbe 94). Also the required
dining etiquette of the increasing middle class, as well as the partly lethal food alterations of
nineteenth century England, led to a rising number of didactic tales about right and wrong food (ibid.

Shakespeare Monarchy
This paper discusses William Shakespeare s work in relation to the monarchy that was in power
during the time of his existence. This analysis includes the writings that were directly related to the
queen and king of that time. Further, there is an analysis of how Shakespeare represented the entire
monarchy. On the reverse side of this part of the discussion, the paper will look at how the monarchy
viewed Shakespeare s work and the writer himself. The members of the society at the time of
Shakespeare also had their views about Shakespeare and these will be discussed as well as how
Shakespeare viewed the society.
William Shakespeare was born on 23rd April 1564 (Honan, 1998). He was an English playwright and
poet. People of his era and others after it regarded him as the greatest English writer and dramatist.
According to Dobson (1992), he is often referred to as the national poet of England. His work is
extensive and includes more than 38 plays, narrative poems and over 150 sonnets. Most of the early
works that he produced were mainly histories and comedies which he perfected and made more
sophisticated. Shakespeare s sonnets had three underlying themes. These were beauty s transience, life
s brevity and desire s trapping (Analysis of Shakespeare s Sonnets, n. d).
Shakespeare s lifetime lapsed during two monarchies. The first one was during the reign of Queen
Elizabeth I which ended in 1603. Upon her death, King James I took over the throne. He ruled for the

  • 2. Delirium in Icu MANAGEMENT OF DELIRIUM IN THE ICU Colleen Gottlieb Erica Powell Mary Tool July 16, 2013 **think this has to be double spaced Management of Delirium in the ICU Introduction Delirium is a serious condition that can affect patients in and outside the hospital. With its presence being unknown to many nurses and providers, delirium has significant long term complications that can last well beyond discharge. Noise, medication, and infection are significant in the development and progression of delirium and these are more than abundant within intensive care patients. The importance of nurse s knowledge cannot be stressed enough regarding the assessment, symptoms, and interventions of delirium, in an effort to decrease its occurrence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With each additional risk factor the likely hood of developing delirium increases. Not only does delirium increase the cost of patients stay it can also increase the mortality rate. Of all diagnosed delirious patients 25% will likely have permanent cognitive impairments, and more critically, those patients who do develop delirium have a three to five fold increase in mortality. The importance of assessing for delirium cannot be stressed enough. Dr Tsuei preformed a study that demonstrated frequent assessment, categorized as every four awake hours, increased the detection of delirium by 55% compared to a once daily delirium assessment. This indicates that once daily assessment for delirium is not sufficient and no assessment is severely deficient. In assessing for delirium every four awake hours, we increase the reporting and thus treatment of this fatal illness. Though there is no specific treatment for delirium at this time certain medication recommendations have been made as well as improving nursing interventions to decrease delirium. The American Association of Critical Care Nursing, AACN recommends the use of the ICDSC and the CAM ICU for assessment of delirium. The ICDSC has been in use since 1990 and the CAM since 2001. The CAM is broken down into four separate components that must be established in order. First one must determine if the patient s mental status is different from their baseline. Second, identify if the patient is suffering from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Difference Between A Pert And Gantt Chart Compare and contrast the information that one receives from a Gantt chart, versus that of a PERT diagram A significant piece of project management is organization. Both Pert and Gantt charts are essential tools that are utilized by project managers in creating a project schedule. Both types of charts offer tools for managers to examine projects through visualization, helping divide responsibilities into controllable parts. An important difference between a PERT chart and a Gantt chart is the way the information is presented. Gantt charts display information in the design of a bar chart. This representation helps show the percentage of work accomplished for each task. On the other hand, PERT shows data as a network model. Meaning that a PERT chart displays an earlier node from which tasks branch out. This helps project managers envision the arrangement of tasks. Together PERT and Gantt charts will show the tasks to be accomplished, but the charts highlight dissimilar parts. A Gantt chart s primary focus is on the ratio completion of each task, without indicating the connection that two tasks may have to each other. While PERT typically does not show the percentage completed, PERT employs a network model, which makes it is easy to see which tasks depend on each other, it typically does not show the percentage of completed tasks. Examine the advantages of using a Gantt chart over a PERT chart and vice versa. Determine when it is appropriate to use one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is through these new understandings that individuals are able to both reunite with themselves and the wider society. This concept is presented clearly in the poem The door by Miroslav Holub representing that change in self involves taking chances and opportunities and the positive consequences of change. Holub conveys change as an individual s commitment to take new opportunities presented to them, resulting in a new perspective of life. The short story Big world by Tim Winton reveals that self exploration and the substantial growth and development happen through findings that contain experiences, which challenge ... He is isolated because of the plot twist made by Meg, who in the story builds a connection with his best friend, Biggie while they are on a road trip. It is through his segregation and observing them that he then realises and notices a ominous truth about himself and the relationship he has with Biggie: ... he s enjoying being brighter than her...it s me all over. It s how I am with him and its not pretty. Through this, the protagonist suffers, realising the detrimental and unproductive environment of his relationship. This epiphany leads him to become even more secluded and alert that he must move on if he is to find and discover joy and progress. The story also reconnoitres the idea of change of self and attitudes towards others, where moments can express a person s perspective towards others around them and life. • 7. An Analysis Of Hitchcock s The Caged Birds Versus The... Psychologists have suggested the idea that correlation does not imply causation. In The Birds, viewers find themselves unable to identify the purpose or the cause for the birds attacks. Hitchcock does not want us to know the answers either, since Hitchcock marvels at his ability to make viewers question his films and struggle at truly enjoying without fully understanding them. Although this essay cannot find a cause for the attacks in the town or to the characters that seem to be innocent like the children and the old man in the farm, it should shed some light on the correlation between the timing of the attacks near the Brenner family and Melanie and their internal struggle. The symbolism of the caged birds versus the free birds, the Jocasta complex Lydia struggles with, and the imagery of the light versus darkness when the birds attack represent the journey Mitch and Melanie face in trying to be together. First we must make the distinction between caged and free birds. The caged birds signify a well mannered, tamed, and socially acceptable human being while the free birds, or rather the birds that attack, have the liberty to act in opposition to the caged ones. In the beginning scene, after Melanie s attempt to impress Mitch, Mitch salvages the bird she mistakenly let escape and as he puts it back in its cage says, Back in your gilded cage Melanie Daniels . This metaphorical cage Melanie resides in is one made up of riches where she is spoiled and superficial, but she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vibration occurs in all moving bodies and tractors are no exception. It results from the interaction of the vehicle with the rough terrain and from the power source. The level of ride vibration on tractors during normal operation frequently exceeds the internationally accepted levels. The analysis of the ride vibration is a complex issue especially for off road condition, as the vibration is in category of multi degree of system and cawed by many components, in the system. Operating speed, surface conditions, wheel air pressure, tire cas stiffness, mounting mechanism of the seat, cab or body parts cause infirnth variable outcome. A considerable amount of time and energy has been spent in minimizing this vibration problem. Suspended seats fitted to most tractors reduce the vertical component of vibration, but the levels are still undesirably high and there is little potential for further improvement using this technique. Health Disparities Among Homeless Women And Their Children Health Disparities Among Homeless Women and Their Children Geraldine Barron Denver School of Nursing Cohort C Health Disparities Among Homeless Women and Their Children Health care disparities is known for its vulnerability among low income and minority status populations. Of most concern are the vulnerable population subgroups known by the harsh environments in which they live, their endangered and unhealthy life styles and the illnesses and injuries that afflict them. These subpopulations include refugees and immigrants, people living with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), alcohol and substance abusers, high risk mothers and infants, victims of family or other violence, and the chronically ill (Teruya, Longshore, Andersen, Arangua, Nyamathi, Leake Gelberg, 2010, p.1). Among these vulnerable sub populations, one with some of the greatest health and health care disparities, is the homeless especially homeless women and their children (Teruya et al., 2010, p.1). People often think that homelessness only affects men and women but in reality homelessness also affects families It is estimated that 3.5 million Americans experience homelessness every year. The nightingale, for instance, is interpreted by many to be a symbol of Keats poetic inspiration and satisfaction. This symbolism can be seen by the vivid descriptions Keats hives the nightingale. However, the nightingale is definitely not the only item of symbolism in Ode to a Nightingale. In a short piece of art, Keats apparently has mastered using many different items, phrases, and brilliant, descriptive metaphorical text to symbolize something he yearns for. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By an effort of the imagination, Keats attempts to suppress all knowledge of the human suffering made evident in stanza three. He seeks to completely enter into the ecstasy of the nightingale s song so he becomes nothing more than an instrument recording the tiniest of physical sensation. For example, in stanza five, Keats describes the beauty of a place in the most minute detail. Since he is unable to actually see this place, he is using the sheer force of his imagination. In this particular stanza, the use of imagery is indeed present. The soft sounds and descriptions of flowers yield a very enchanting and beautiful atmosphere. Where Keats says, Now more than ever seems it rich to die, / To cease upon the midnight with no pain, / While thou art pouring forth thy soul abroad / In such an ecstasy! (lines 55 58), is an indication of how he believes it would be marvelous for his life to end in such a state of blissful heaven. However, the irony of this is that, in Keats case, death would mean the end of the nightingale s song. • 13. The Censorship Of Canadian Content Rules revolving around Canadian Content (CanCon) have been set in place since the 1920 s. In 2005, revisions to the 1991 Broadcasting Act were made. Since this revision was made there have been further changes to the Act trying to create the best set of rules for CanCon to be broadcasted (Dewing, 2011). CanCon is an outdated concept that is causing consumers to switch to other forms of media. The CanCon rules cannot determine what is considered Canadian and they cannot keep up with the ever changing forms of media. Canadian producers are only getting a slim portion of the industry even with the rules in place. Therefore CanCon rules should be totally eliminated. While technology is getting better and people have begun streaming different forms of media online, the government has been slow on updating the rules that regulate broadcasted Canadian Content (Mejaski, 2011). Due to the rapid development of digital technology CanCon rules are now outdated. This is causing the distinction between broadcasting and telecommunications to be blurred. New technology has resulted in fragmentation. This refers to the idea that there are is a growing number of courses that now have to be regulated by CanCon (Dewig, 2011). With the world technologically progressing Canada has to focus on the idea that the world is becoming borderless. This idea comes from the thought that technology is bringing the world closer together because everyone is interconnected now. This will result in the power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With this much cultures in the world, everyone is bound to believe that they re all different. Even though they are different in some aspects, all of them are similar to each other in some way. So if this is the case, do we as human beings have the right to judge these cultures as ethically wrong or just a cultural difference? Cultural Relativism is the belief that we cannot judge the cultural practices of other societies and that we should let them do as they please. But if we cannot judge them, does it make it right when they threaten the lives of others? Through the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, we begin to have a deeper insight this idea of ... Through this right, everyone can believe what they want we have no right to judge. If we judge them, then we ourselves infringe on everyone s right to be equal (article 1). Through cultural relativism, everyone can keep their rights and the world would rest in peace without any unnecessary fights. Child Poverty And Home Visiting Programs Background on Child Poverty and Home Visiting Programs Children born into poverty are more likely to have social, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral problems. In addition, children in poverty are more likely to have physical health problems, mental health problems, and mothers receive less prenatal care. For instance, a child born in poverty is more likely to have a lower birth weight than his or her counterparts. Low birth rate is a contributing factor in infant mortality within the first year of the child s life. Additionally, children born in poverty have lower IQ test scores and have less school achievements when compared to their counterparts. Because poverty impacts cognitive development more than physical, it is likely, that poverty will persist through subsequent generations. Further, nutrition, or the lack of, is one factor that contributes to the development of a child. One study suggests that children in poverty are twenty two times more likely to suffer from maltreatment than those children not in poverty. The poverty rate in comparison state is twenty two percent, which is the second highest in the country and equal to the national rate of children living in poverty. Children born into poverty, on average, live in poverty until he or she is eight years old. Whereas, if a piece of magnesium metal is added to 30 mL of Hydrochloric Acid, then a reaction will occur and an increase in temperature will be observable. For Part 3 of the experiment, if 50 mL of tap water is placed in a can 2.5 cm inches above a burning marshmallow, then through the process of calorimetry the energy content of the marshmallow should be 5.0kJ/g (the value provided by the United States Department of Agriculture). Reactions that give off heat as a product are known as exothermic reactions, whereas reactions that absorb heat are known as endothermic reactions (Van Hecke, 1999). An example of an exothermic reaction would be condensation, in which water loses energy, and an example of an endothermic reaction would be melting, in which water gains energy. These two types of reactions are studied to better understand the properties and future potential of substances. For example, recent studies prove that the addition of endothermic chemicals in fire retardant substances effectively stops fires by rapidly cooling the temperature and preventing and re ignition (Tripathi, 2008). This is important because determining what reactions are endothermic or exothermic can better improve techniques to prevent disasters such as a fire.
