Bad Monkey And The Social Phenomenon Of Crime
Social Science theories in criminology builds frameworks of empirical evidence which are used to
study and interpret the social phenomenon of crime (Callinicos, 1999). Of the many theories
developed over the course of the study of the science of criminology, Robert Agnew s General Strain
and Edwin H. Sutherland s Differential Association theories stood out the most while I indulged in
Carl Hiaasen novel Bad Monkey. In this essay I will be using Carl Hiaasen novel Bad Monkey to draw
out examples of Robert Agnew s General Strain and Edwin H. Sutherland s Differential Association
Theory. In this essay, I will be reviewing Andre Yancy and his newest lover Dr. Rosa Campesino in an
effort to better understand Agnew and Sutherland s theories respectively. Robert Agnew s General
Strain theory expands prior theorist s concepts which emphasizes that the obstruction of an individual
goal or the inability of an individual to achieve conventional goals through appropriate means causes
unlawful innovations, such as crime (Brezina, 2010). More so, Agnew s expanded the concept of
stressors in an effort to make stressors classless. In addition, Agnew states that the strains that generate
strong pressure which tend to lead to criminal behaviors are chronic strains, strains that are
rationalized to unjust or severe, and strains that can be resolved by crime (Agnew, 2001). Lastly,
Agnew believes that criminal response is most likely to occur when normal coping strategies are
absent. General

Integrative Approaches To Psychology And Christianity...
Entwistle (2015) discusses the philosophical, historical, and practical approach to integrating
psychology and Christianity in his book, Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity. The
author proposes that psychology and Christianity are ultimately creations of a Sovereign God designed
to give complementary enlightenment to mankind for worshiping God and to care for the suffering.
Integration is defined as ...a multi faceted attempt to discern the underlying truths about the nature and
functioning of human beings from the unique vantage points of psychology (in its various
subdisciplines, utilizing diverse methodologies) and Christianity (in theology, faith, and practice) (pp.
260 261, italics in original). Psychology discerns truth through empirical means through the scientific
process of hypothesizing and testing. The author describes it as a study of the book of God s Works .
As a discipline, it focuses on methological naturalism, which canonizes only what may be empirically
tested. Theology is the discernment of truth through the interpretation of God s Word, and of reason.
As a discipline, it focuses on the supernatural and morality, how man ought to live, not simply how
man does live.
Psychology as a science, emerged in Europe during the nineteenth century from modernism
philosophy, in a world where science and religious establishment had a history of conflict. Entwistle
notes that the ...rise of science represented a shift in how the world was understood

Jean Marc Bosm Football Player For Belgian League Team
The Bosman Ruling
The ease and freedom with which clubs transfer players between one another today would not have
been possible without the Bosman Ruling.
Jean Marc Bosman was a football player for Belgian leagues team R.F.C de Liege, where he had a
contract until June 30th, 1990. When R.F.C. de Liege offered Bosman a new contract with a 75
percent salary reduction, Bosman declined the offer and was automatically placed on the transfer list
for the club. A second division team in France, USL Dunkerque, expressed interest in signing the
player and both teams negotiated the transfer. USL Dunkerque agreed to pay 1,200,000 Belgian
Francs for the first season and 4,800,000 Belgian Francs if they ended up acquiring the player after the

1293). Bosman also took legal action against UEFA, the European Football Association, to the
European Court of Justice in an attempt to invalidate UEFA s gentlemen s agreement . The gentlemen
s agreement, also known as the 3 plus 2 rule, allowed domestic leagues to set their own maximum
number of foreign players that a particular club could have. The 3 plus 2 rule states that only three
foreign players and two foreign players who had been in the country for more than five years could
play on the field at the same time for a club in domestic matches. In April 1992, the Belgian Court of
Justice declared no legal consequences for the suit, so Bosman decided to drop the charges against his
club and the Belgian league in order to develop a new claim against UEFA. In his new claim, he stated
that the 3 plus 2 rule and European transfer system breached the Articles 48, 85 and 86 of the Treaty of
Rome, and they should be considered null and voided. (Lee, 1995) On December 15th, 1995 the
European Court of Justice finally reached a verdict and the transfer market in European football was
changed forever. According to Case C 415/93, The European Court of Justice ruled that it was illegal
for clubs to stop players from moving clubs once their contracts have expired. The European Court of
Justice also banned the restrictions that a club could have on the number of players that belong to the
European Union. Before the rule was established, clubs had the

Rape As A Weapon Of War
Being a part of a global community comes with many responsibilities and duties. People of the global
community have to be aware of the dangers that are present in the lives of many people all over the
globe. Human Rights issues are quite serious and violations of these rights should not be taken lightly.
In exploration of a global human rights issue, the discovery of rape as a tool in war was a gross
violation of human rights as well as overwhelmingly a gender issue. Rape used as a tool of war has
devastated and destroyed people, communities, families, and traditions. When discussing rape as
weapon of war, there are two main modern day conflicts that can not be overlooked. Rape as a weapon
of war is brought into light by the wars of Congo and Bosnia. These two conflicts brought the eyes of
the world onto the global issue of rape in war and more specifically how it is used as a tool of
ethnocide and genocide. The recent conflict in the Congo has been rooted in the 1994 Rwandan
Genocide and related violence in Burundi which saw hundreds of thousands of Hutus flee both
countries into eastern Zaïre. (First and Second) In the Rwandan genocide, Hutu power groups (called
the Interahamwe and the Impuzamugambi) led mass killings of Tutsis and pro peace Hutus, murdering
800,000 people in approximately 100 days. (Congo) In response, the Tutsi led Rwandan Patriotic
Front, or RPF, overthrew the Rwandan Hutu government.
During and after the genocide, an estimated 2 million refugees,

Taurus Case Study
Company Background
Christopher Columbus was probably the first European to handle rubber. Rubber has been used by the
Haitian for centuries. In 1819 Thomas Hancock discovered that latex rubber can be masticated, but
unfortunately mastication deprived rubber of its elastic qualities.
Charles Goodyear has discovered vulcanization in 1839, which solved the problem and also kept
rubber products from becoming tacky. Hence the commercial uses of rubber multiplied greatly.
Shortly thereafter, the rise of the automobile industry at the century s turn resulted in a tremendous
increase in the demand for rubber and its principal application in the manufacture of automobile and
truck tires. The production of natural rubber entails ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, we come out with the problem statement mention about how the company restructuring
the business line and revitalize growth.
Thus, SWOT analysis was being used to identify the strength, weaknesses, opportunity, and threats of
the company s operation. By using this analysis, we get to identify how the company s operation runs
and what strategies would be the best to be suggested in the alternatives. The strength for Taurus is
well established background, reputation for quality, strong division and strategic internal development.
The weakness is inefficiencies productivity, weak competitive position and not incorporated division.
The threat and opportunity is from the external environment. The opportunity is highly attractive
market, awareness of joint venture and merging, high demand of rubbers and tires, opportunity to
privatise and the competitiveness of Hungary s exports. Lastly, the threat is high threat of new
entrants, maturity of tires, occurrence of new private law and crisis in Hungarian industry.
Based on the problem statement and the SWOT analysis we suggest four alternatives. First alternative
is strategic alliances by creating new strategic business units (SBUs). They can joint the automobile
industries, truck and bus industries and construction and building industries. They can privatize when
government set the law. This is a threat and

Essay On How To Take A Great Picture Every Time

How to Take a Great Picture Every Time The best pictures aren t always the ones taken by
professionals or of incredible scenery. Memorable pictures are the ones that truly count and anyone
can take them. Getting familiar with the overload of camera settings, equipment and terminology is a
process that comes with experience. Photography is an art that, like many others, takes time to master.
There are many factors and techniques that play into taking pictures. Things grow more technical the
further you reach into photography. As a profession, photography is divided into different focuses and

Direct light is based on the size and distance of the light source. Smaller light sources that are further
away from the photo s subject will create sharper, more intense shadows. On the other hand, diffused
light covers the subject in a more full, blended way. Shadows appear more bright in diffused light.
This lighting is usually ideal for portraits of people with uneven skin. A camera s aperture, shutter
speed and ISO also influence the lighting of an image. Aperture and shutter speed can be confusing at
first as they function in opposite directions. The larger the aperture (measured in f stops) is, the
brighter a picture will be. The size of the aperture is the size of the hole which lets light into the lens.
Shutter speed is how quickly the camera lens is exposed to that light. The higher the shutter speed, the
darker the picture will be. Like the aperture, the higher the ISO, the brighter the picture will be. The
downfall to a higher ISO is that the image will appear more grainy. It is the photographer s job to
balance natural lighting with the camera s settings in order to set a lighting that will make the picture
look best.
Aside from all of the technical and analytical factors in photography, the last point to make is simply
taking a lot of pictures. When asked how many keepers do you get from a game? , professional
photographer Scott Kelby answered I get that question fairly

Theme Of Madness In The Bell Jar
Experience of Madness The Bell Jar narrates the story of protagonist s journey from a normal girl to a
resilient woman, who regresses into madness. This madness is the key which unlocks the answers to
her questions about the meaning of her life. As she recovers in a psychiatric ward from her mental
illness, she aspires to survive and find meaning in this survival. Ideal life versus actual experiences of
the world: Plath portrays Esther as an ambitious girl with very little experience of life. There is a gap
between the ideal life Esther aspires for and the real world in which she lives. For example, while she
is charmed by the urban and luxurious life of New York, she also becomes depressed by Rosenberg
executions. The other interns epitomize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

symptoms. Joan too describes her insensitive treatment at the hands of male psychiatrists. Also, some
of the hospitals in which Esther lives, pay more attention to sanitation than to the patients and are
frighteningly authoritarian. By seeing the inactive patients, she realizes that mental illness is
something defective and to be ashamed of. It is a blot which needs to be cleaned, hid and denied,

Southern Somalia Research Paper
Somalia was colonized by many different countries. It was colonized by Britain, France, Egypt,
Ethiopia, and Italy. Egypt had taken over the coast in 1875. Britain colonized it in 1887. They did this
because they wanted to guard the Suez canal. France took over a part of Somalia because they didn t
get any land in Egypt. In the early 1900 s, Italy gained control of Southern Somalia. They had control
of Southern Somalia until July 1st, 1960 when they gained their own independence. Life during these
colonial times was bad in some places but not all. They were treated unfairly in most places and their
individual culture was not given respect. This was mainly due to Europe wanting it only for the
resources they would get. Italy treated them very well and fairly for a while until they decided to make
the natives adjust to Italian law. They treated them well at first because they were trying not to disturb
the colonies. The colonial government in the British Somaliland was not liked by the people. There
were many uprisings and this made the British abandon the interior of Somalia and they went for the
coasts instead. When they did this, Italy saw an opportunity to take control over the interior. After
World War 2, Somalia was given to the United Nations to become a UN trust territory. They ... Show

The First Five Presidents Of The United States
The first five presidents for the United States impacted the United States greatly and their names were
George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe. The
president I think that impacted the U.S the most was George Washington who was in office for eight
years (1789 1797). George Washington who was the commander in chief and led the army in the
Revolutionary War and gained freedom from Great Britain at that time there was thirteen colonies in
the United States. In 1783 George Washington signed a peace treaty with Great Britain. John Adams
which was the second president to be elected who was vice president at first for eight years (1789
1796) soon became president for four years (1797 1801). John Adams strengthened the central
government by making the army stronger and he signed a law which is called the Act for the Sick
which let government marine hospital service. Thomas Jefferson which was the third president was
one of the more important presidents for the United States, he was one of the authors of the
Declaration of Independence and he also organized the Louisiana Purchase which doubled the country
known as the United States. James Madison Jr. known as the fourth president promoted the United
States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. James Monroe which was the fifth president for the United

But the place where this takes place is very unique. Such a simple story arch, but with a twist of death,
savagery, and an apocalypse.
Bacigalupi creates strong character development with Nailer. He starts out the book with Nailer being
afraid of his father and is sceptical of killing and the subject of death. But once he sees Blue Eyes get
killed he realizes that killing is essential to survive in his world. In the beginning of the story one of
his light crew members, Sloth, doesn t help him out of a oil tanker. Nailer is forced to do it himself,
and is ready to die. But then he realizes that he must man up and get out of the tanker. This is where
Nailers determination, later in the story, comes from.
Whilst reading the story you will feel like it has gone by fast. This has to do with Bacigalupi s writing.
He writes in a very fast paced way, but when he needs to slow down and focus on something he will.

Economic Development And Development Of Welfare
When discussing the origins of welfare states it is easy to make an assumption that the development of
welfare states was in direct response to social needs brought by industrialization and economic
development. In fact the early scholarship in social policy did not question the causational effect
between economic development and development of welfare states. Understanding that economic
development alone cannot sufficiently explain why some countries developed into full welfare states
while others did not prevail until the emergence of social democratic theory and its further expansions.
Based on the later studies, the economic development was a necessary cause and played the role of
creating the need and the resources for social provisions while politics was sufficient condition which
determined whether social needs would be addressed though creation of welfare state of other types of
social provisions. Looking back in history, while economic development did not invent poverty, it
change its nature by making it difficult for families to take care for the disabled, elderly, and
unemployed. More specifically, it led to a decrease in labor force participation in agriculture, rapid
spread of self regulating labor market, urbanization, destruction of traditional social protections,
commodification of labor, and the emergence of a new social category of the laboring poor dependent
on the insecure labor market. In addition to establishing the above described functional demand

PROLOGUE
Suzy McHullivan was a cheerful young girl with braids as long as the sun s rays. She gracefully
strolled around in a beautiful, fluffy, and pale blue dress. Lucky for her, she was friends with Johnny
Hudson, the son of Captain Henry Hudson of England. Johnny wore a hat as furry as a mother bear s
cub, and a coat made out of splendid material. Captain Hudson, or Mr. Hudson as Suzy called him,
always dressed to look as a king. Suzy and Johnny were on an adventure of a lifetime, with Mr.
Hudson holding the ship s wheel.

Then finally, Johnny and I were able to walk onto the deck when the storm was over. As we entered, I
heard Mr. Hudson. We ve come upon a big problem, men. Johnny gasped as we listened some more.
We re surrounded by frozen water! I ran over to him, panicking like an animal in the winter without
food. What shall we do? I asked quickly. I m afraid we ll be sending some men to venture onto the ice
to cut the dangerous cubes, so we may be freed. He replied, looking out into the ocean. Oh, Mr.
Hudson. Could I help to do so? I asked as the idea came sailing into my head. Mr. Hudson laughed
and turned to the crew. MEN! All men... My hopes were fading away until a second later, Johnny
came running up to me. My father needs help. He doesn t want the men to fall in while cutting the ice.
Do you have any ideas? Indeed, I do! We rushed over to Mr. Hudson on the deck filled with worried
crew members. Mr. Hudson, I have an idea. I said. You should attach rope onto the crew members so
they won t fall into the rushing waters while they cut the ice. I smiled as I spoke. Mr. Hudson

The Effect Of Phonetic And Semantic Encoding On Correct...
Abstract
The current lab experiment was a partial replication of Craik and Tulving s 1975 study. The aim was
to investigate the effect of phonetic and semantic encoding on correct recognition of words. The
research hypothesis was semantically encoded words have a higher rate of correct recognition then
words that have been phonetically encoded. This was a one tailed hypothesis, as previous research
supported it. The null hypothesis was that the results will show no difference between words that are
successfully recognised from the two levels of encoding, and any difference will be due to chance.
The independent variable was the encoding level Phonetic or Semantic and the dependent variable
was the number of correctly recognized words on a standardized recognition sheet. An independent
measures design was used, with opportunity sampling to select 20 participants 10 male, 10 female
who were split into phonetic and semantic groups of 10 each. The findings were that phonetic
encoding had a mean of 17.2, and semantic encoding had a mean of 27.8. The Mann Whitney U test
showed that the results had a significance level of 0.01. Therefore, this experiment s data can be
considered 99% significant; the research hypothesis was supported and the null hypothesis was
rejected.

Titanic Cause And Effect
Claire D Amore Mrs. Paine 2A English 10 February 2016 Cause and Effect Essay: Sinking Ships Intro
( Describing background of the act, as well as, stating opinion ) In 1912, the unsinkable titanic
careened into a hidden iceberg, destroying the ship in it s entirely along with 1,500 lives. Majority of
the passengers died due to the lack of lifeboats that the ship provided. The survival rate for women
was 74%, children 52%, and surprisingly for men was 20%. Human impulse accounted for men s rash
decision to choose death with courage when the titanic splintered into the bank of ice. Describe the
need for The Altruistic Act on the Titanic (DNA) Humans are made to be wonderful, creative caring
creatures that, if the occasion called for it, they would help another who shares the same intentions.
However, this statement is based upon the blood that runs through our veins. Human behavior is
nothing but various, we either think of ourselves or of others. Even though it doesn t seem like it, our
DNA dictates our life choices. Natural instincts pull us in different directions during different
situations. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The panicked passengers of the Titanic, rushed out of their quarters to the limited lifeboats around the
ship. Male passengers went out of their ways, risking their lives, to help the women and children of
the ship. These men had every right to push the women and children out of their way and save their
own life, yet they didn t. Instead, they push the women and children to the front lines of the lifeboats
with no consideration of the wealth of the passengers they were pushing. They were able to override
the screaming human instinct to save one s self. The conduction of the passengers demonstrates, the
built in moral sense that humans have within, which leads us to act altruistically, even if we are
unaware the nature of it is

The Use Of Vivid Color In The Wizard Of Oz
As Dorothy enters deeper into the world of Oz, we see the vibrant color of green in the trees and the
shades of yellow and blue in the flowers (Fig. 3). One remarkable aspect of the Wizard of Oz has to be
Dorothy s red, sparkly shoes, the famous ruby slippers. They were originally scripted as being silver
but half way through the production they decided to change it to red to take full advantage of the
capabilities of Technicolor. Another reason why they were changed to ruby red was so they can stand
out against the brimstone yellow brick road. The yellow brick road and the Emerald City were further
illustrations of the capabilities of
Technicolor. Such vivid colors weren t just for artistic appeal, they often represented other aspects

Technically a great achievement, MGM studios spared no expense on the production. It was filmed in
Technicolor (uncommon for the time) and featured spectacular sets designed to satisfy both the
audience appetite for glamour and Mitchell s insistence on authenticity (Juddery, 2008). The
Technicolor Corporation required production companies to rent their equipment. Having already
worked with Technicolor, Seltznick rented all seven of Technicolor cameras in order to film Gone with
the Film. Alongside using Technicolor equipment, Technicolor also provided a color consultant. The
purpose of the color consultant was to be in charge of all color scenes relating to Gone with the Wind.

Musical Infant Development
My reaction to the musical infant and their musical abilities is that in spite of the studies already made,
still there are unresolved questions. One issue in discussion for example is if an infant can hear in the
womb. Indeed, even in the womb there is proof that babies react to a wide range of sound. Medical
studies have concluded that a fetus can hear from the third semester. In a 1980 testing Anthony J. De
Casper and William P. Fifer found that some rudimentary cognition starts at this point and a close
connection with the mother as well.
Besides, the inclination that infants have for music have a hereditary component and an additional
environmental factor (Trehub, 2001). There are behaviors present in the baby that demonstrate that
they are not inactive audience members, they deliver their own particular coordinated sounds moving
head and limbs in light of specific sounds. This is particularly genuine when there is communication

The similarities, assuming any, between the two are that both are sound related and musical to some
degree. Both language and music have rules that must be followed in order to make musical and
communicative thoughts understandable to others. Researchers explain that in both music and in
discourse patterns there are two components that work together rhythm and pitch. There is an
association then in the minds of numerous individuals that there is prosody in speech (a characteristic
ascent and fall of the voice and rhythmic qualities). This is like components in music. As per Jusczyk
and Hohne, The latter half of the infant s first year is a critical point in acquiring a language (p.
1984).The infant needs to perceive the speech of people around them, picking up patterns and sort out
them in a manner that it makes sense and can be retrieved. Finally, infants should be translators of
what they listen, so that when they are capable, they can express and

Jane Eyre Comparison
Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
I was very surprised that there aren t many women writers in our text book. So, I have been interested
in a woman writer, Charlotte Bronte. She dealt with a problem about women and their lives. Most of
women at that time didn t have lots of power. But Charlotte Bronte published her novel and became
famous. Charlotte Bronte judged herself. small and plain and Quaker like . Jane Eyre s character very
similar with Charlotte Bronte s one. Jane Eyre is based on Charlotte Bronte s own life. We can know
about women s position at that age. I think it is important novel for student who studies feminism and
literature. And I think it isn t quiet different with now days.
I resisted all the way. Jane Eyre sates at the beginning of Chapter 2. It contains all thing she wanted to
tell. Jane Eyre is a young woman wholly unprotected by social position, family, or independent
wealth; she is without power. She was not equal with males even Rochester. Jane Eyre had to resist all
about these things. There are many things that she had to resist. She feels a patriarchism of a society
through the educations and love. And she against that kinds of thing and find out her identity.
Throughout the novel, she expresses her opinions on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

women as a person who didn t act objectively. But she leaved him right after when she realized that
Rochester got married to the mad woman. Rochester had intended to dishonestly marry her. Morality
is a advantage to Jane. Jane will not rebel against God or lose her self respect and become Rochester s
mistress when she finds out that he is already married. And Jane has image of resuscitation. It is
woman s own image. Jane saved his life. And she got married him who became blind and lost his arm.
And finally he can find his eye sight. It shows clearly that women s ability of

Speech On Exams
Good evening ladies and gentlemen.
Albert Einstein wrote, Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it
will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
The purpose of this speech is to explain how exams fail to fulfil their purpose of indicating ability.
Examinations, by definition, are a formal test of a person s knowledge or proficiency in a subject or
skill . However, this definition itself is flawed; a student s ability to pass a test is a shallow assessment
of their proficiency in the career they choose to pursue. This brings me to my primary question: Do
examinations really provide as an adequate indication of ability?
Imagine a world where intelligence was not limited to the answers students ... Show more content on

Exams have caused a lack of enthusiasm in the mindset of scholars and encouraged students to have
superficial knowledge which doesn t last long. At the cost of writing exams are many individuals who
do not succeed in a certain profession because they performed poorly on a particular exam. A change
needs to be made to the system of education by creating a scheme which encourages students to work
consistently and enthusiastically, and offers greater opportunity for each and every student to

There were two groups who are the descendents of the Polynesians who are the Maori and the Moriori
who came into conflict with one another upon meeting eachother for the first time. The Moriori people
were living on the Chatham Islands which are 500 miles east of New Zealand. They were for centuries
living peacefully and independently until it all came to a brutal end for them in December 1835. Five
hundred Maori people armed wielding guns, axes, clubs along with another 400 that arrived through
ship invaded and killed off the Moriori people and announced that they would be their slaves and that
if anyone were to object them they would be killed; no questions asked. The Moriori could have

Rhetorical Analysis Of Got Milk
Advertisments are on every corner we see. Some we see ocasionally, some we see all the time. On
billbords downtown, on tv, even ads on your pandora app. Although we may not get the picture, each
ad symbolizes a company or trademark. Each advertisement we see persuades or influences others of
some sort. The repetiton or promotion of an ad may catch the audience eye. We know by heart we if
see an famous celebrity with an milk mustache, that s the Got Milk advertisement. The campagin uses
ethos, pathos, and logos to make the audience change their drinking habits and drink more milk. The
Rhianna and Taylor Swift ads catches the most attetion. While Got Milk ads are famously known for
the celeberties they use, they also have some flaws in portrying the right message to their audience. ...

Compare And Contrast Jim Hawkins And Treasure Island
Finding money in an unexpected place always brings happiness to the finder; whether it is money or
treasure, everyone strives to get it. In the novel, Treasure Island by Robert L. Stevenson, an old sea
caption dies and Jim Hawkins discovers the captain s chest full of valuable items, such as a treasure
map. Upon finding the map, Jim Hawkins goes on an adventure to find the treasure. In another novel,
Kidnapped, also by Robert L. Stevenson, David Balfour has returned to his hometown to obtain his
father s inheritance, however, David s greedy uncle gets him kidnapped. David goes on a journey to
get back his inheritance from his evil uncle. In the novels, the protagonists, Jim Hawkins and David
Balfour, share similarities and differences. They start their journey in different circumstances, but they
are also similar because they share a theme of coming of age. Lastly, both protagonists deal with men
who try to kill them while on journey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

battle, his sword was running blood to the hilt, and himself so swelled with triumph and fallen into so
fine an attitude (Stevenson 59). Because of Alan s company, David seems to have obtained victory in
his first battle. David changes because of his friend, although he sometimes questions Alan because he
is a Jacobite outlaw. Similarly in Jim s case, he meets an elder friend, Long John Silver who is a pirate
and helps Jim along his treasure hunt. Silver and Jim share a special bond of friendship. As being a

Sutherland s Differential Association theories stood out the most while I indulged in Carl Hiaasen novel Bad Monkey. In this essay I will be using Carl Hiaasen novel Bad Monkey to draw out examples of Robert Agnew s General Strain and Edwin H. Sutherland s Differential Association Theory. In this essay, I will be reviewing Andre Yancy and his newest lover Dr. Rosa Campesino in an effort to better understand Agnew and Sutherland s theories respectively. Robert Agnew s General Strain theory expands prior theorist s concepts which emphasizes that the obstruction of an individual goal or the inability of an individual to achieve conventional goals through appropriate means causes unlawful innovations, such as crime (Brezina, 2010). More so, Agnew s expanded the concept of stressors in an effort to make stressors classless. In addition, Agnew states that the strains that generate strong pressure which tend to lead to criminal behaviors are chronic strains, strains that are rationalized to unjust or severe, and strains that can be resolved by crime (Agnew, 2001). Lastly, Agnew believes that criminal response is most likely to occur when normal coping strategies are absent. General ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Entwistle (2015) discusses the philosophical, historical, and practical approach to integrating psychology and Christianity in his book, Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity. The author proposes that psychology and Christianity are ultimately creations of a Sovereign God designed to give complementary enlightenment to mankind for worshiping God and to care for the suffering. Integration is defined as ...a multi faceted attempt to discern the underlying truths about the nature and functioning of human beings from the unique vantage points of psychology (in its various subdisciplines, utilizing diverse methodologies) and Christianity (in theology, faith, and practice) (pp. 260 261, italics in original). Psychology discerns truth through empirical means through the scientific process of hypothesizing and testing. The author describes it as a study of the book of God s Works . As a discipline, it focuses on methological naturalism, which canonizes only what may be empirically tested. Theology is the discernment of truth through the interpretation of God s Word, and of reason. As a discipline, it focuses on the supernatural and morality, how man ought to live, not simply how man does live. Jean Marc Bosm Football Player For Belgian League Team The Bosman Ruling The ease and freedom with which clubs transfer players between one another today would not have been possible without the Bosman Ruling. When R.F.C. de Liege offered Bosman a new contract with a 75 percent salary reduction, Bosman declined the offer and was automatically placed on the transfer list for the club. Bosman also took legal action against UEFA, the European Football Association, to the European Court of Justice in an attempt to invalidate UEFA s gentlemen s agreement . The gentlemen s agreement, also known as the 3 plus 2 rule, allowed domestic leagues to set their own maximum number of foreign players that a particular club could have. The 3 plus 2 rule states that only three foreign players and two foreign players who had been in the country for more than five years could play on the field at the same time for a club in domestic matches. In April 1992, the Belgian Court of Justice declared no legal consequences for the suit, so Bosman decided to drop the charges against his club and the Belgian league in order to develop a new claim against UEFA. In his new claim, he stated that the 3 plus 2 rule and European transfer system breached the Articles 48, 85 and 86 of the Treaty of Rome, and they should be considered null and voided. (Lee, 1995) On December 15th, 1995 the European Court of Justice finally reached a verdict and the transfer market in European football was changed forever. Smaller light sources that are further away from the photo s subject will create sharper, more intense shadows. On the other hand, diffused light covers the subject in a more full, blended way. Shadows appear more bright in diffused light. This lighting is usually ideal for portraits of people with uneven skin. A camera s aperture, shutter speed and ISO also influence the lighting of an image. Aperture and shutter speed can be confusing at first as they function in opposite directions. The larger the aperture (measured in f stops) is, the brighter a picture will be. The size of the aperture is the size of the hole which lets light into the lens. Shutter speed is how quickly the camera lens is exposed to that light. The higher the shutter speed, the darker the picture will be. Like the aperture, the higher the ISO, the brighter the picture will be. The downfall to a higher ISO is that the image will appear more grainy. It is the photographer s job to balance natural lighting with the camera s settings in order to set a lighting that will make the picture look best. • 22. Economic Development And Development Of Welfare When discussing the origins of welfare states it is easy to make an assumption that the development of welfare states was in direct response to social needs brought by industrialization and economic development. In fact the early scholarship in social policy did not question the causational effect between economic development and development of welfare states. Understanding that economic development alone cannot sufficiently explain why some countries developed into full welfare states while others did not prevail until the emergence of social democratic theory and its further expansions. Based on the later studies, the economic development was a necessary cause and played the role of creating the need and the resources for social provisions while politics was sufficient condition which determined whether social needs would be addressed though creation of welfare state of other types of social provisions. Looking back in history, while economic development did not invent poverty, it change its nature by making it difficult for families to take care for the disabled, elderly, and unemployed. More specifically, it led to a decrease in labor force participation in agriculture, rapid spread of self regulating labor market, urbanization, destruction of traditional social protections, commodification of labor, and the emergence of a new social category of the laboring poor dependent on the insecure labor market. The aim was to investigate the effect of phonetic and semantic encoding on correct recognition of words. The research hypothesis was semantically encoded words have a higher rate of correct recognition then words that have been phonetically encoded. This was a one tailed hypothesis, as previous research supported it. The null hypothesis was that the results will show no difference between words that are successfully recognised from the two levels of encoding, and any difference will be due to chance. The independent variable was the encoding level Phonetic or Semantic and the dependent variable was the number of correctly recognized words on a standardized recognition sheet. An independent measures design was used, with opportunity sampling to select 20 participants 10 male, 10 female who were split into phonetic and semantic groups of 10 each. The findings were that phonetic encoding had a mean of 17.2, and semantic encoding had a mean of 27.8. The Mann Whitney U test showed that the results had a significance level of 0.01. Therefore, this experiment s data can be considered 99% significant; the research hypothesis was supported and the null hypothesis was rejected. Titanic Cause And Effect Claire D Amore Mrs. Paine 2A English 10 February 2016 Cause and Effect Essay: Sinking Ships Intro ( Describing background of the act, as well as, stating opinion ) In 1912, the unsinkable titanic careened into a hidden iceberg, destroying the ship in it s entirely along with 1,500 lives. Majority of the passengers died due to the lack of lifeboats that the ship provided. The survival rate for women was 74%, children 52%, and surprisingly for men was 20%. Human impulse accounted for men s rash decision to choose death with courage when the titanic splintered into the bank of ice. Describe the need for The Altruistic Act on the Titanic (DNA) Humans are made to be wonderful, creative caring creatures that, if the occasion called for it, they would help another who shares the same intentions. However, this statement is based upon the blood that runs through our veins. Human behavior is nothing but various, we either think of ourselves or of others. Even though it doesn t seem like it, our DNA dictates our life choices. Natural instincts pull us in different directions during different situations. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The panicked passengers of the Titanic, rushed out of their quarters to the limited lifeboats around the ship. Male passengers went out of their ways, risking their lives, to help the women and children of the ship. These men had every right to push the women and children out of their way and save their own life, yet they didn t. Instead, they push the women and children to the front lines of the lifeboats with no consideration of the wealth of the passengers they were pushing. They were able to override the screaming human instinct to save one s self. The conduction of the passengers demonstrates, the built in moral sense that humans have within, which leads us to act altruistically, even if we are unaware the nature of it is ... The Use Of Vivid Color In The Wizard Of Oz As Dorothy enters deeper into the world of Oz, we see the vibrant color of green in the trees and the shades of yellow and blue in the flowers (Fig. 3). One remarkable aspect of the Wizard of Oz has to be Dorothy s red, sparkly shoes, the famous ruby slippers. They were originally scripted as being silver but half way through the production they decided to change it to red to take full advantage of the capabilities of Technicolor. Another reason why they were changed to ruby red was so they can stand out against the brimstone yellow brick road. The yellow brick road and the Emerald City were further illustrations of the capabilities of Technicolor. Such vivid colors weren t just for artistic appeal, they often represented other aspects such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was filmed in Technicolor (uncommon for the time) and featured spectacular sets designed to satisfy both the audience appetite for glamour and Mitchell s insistence on authenticity (Juddery, 2008). Having already worked with Technicolor, Seltznick rented all seven of Technicolor cameras in order to film Gone with the Film. • 27. Musical Infant Development My reaction to the musical infant and their musical abilities is that in spite of the studies already made, still there are unresolved questions. One issue in discussion for example is if an infant can hear in the womb. Indeed, even in the womb there is proof that babies react to a wide range of sound. Medical studies have concluded that a fetus can hear from the third semester. In a 1980 testing Anthony J. De Casper and William P. Fifer found that some rudimentary cognition starts at this point and a close connection with the mother as well. Besides, the inclination that infants have for music have a hereditary component and an additional environmental factor (Trehub, 2001). There are behaviors present in the baby that demonstrate that they are not inactive audience members, they deliver their own particular coordinated sounds moving head and limbs in light of specific sounds. This is particularly genuine when there is communication with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The similarities, assuming any, between the two are that both are sound related and musical to some degree. Both language and music have rules that must be followed in order to make musical and communicative thoughts understandable to others. Researchers explain that in both music and in discourse patterns there are two components that work together rhythm and pitch. There is an association then in the minds of numerous individuals that there is prosody in speech (a characteristic ascent and fall of the voice and rhythmic qualities). This is like components in music. As per Jusczyk and Hohne, The latter half of the infant s first year is a critical point in acquiring a language (p. 1984).The infant needs to perceive the speech of people around them, picking up patterns and sort out them in a manner that it makes sense and can be retrieved. Finally, infants should be translators of what they listen, so that when they are capable, they can express and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. The purpose of this speech is to explain how exams fail to fulfil their purpose of indicating ability. Examinations, by definition, are a formal test of a person s knowledge or proficiency in a subject or skill . However, this definition itself is flawed; a student s ability to pass a test is a shallow assessment of their proficiency in the career they choose to pursue. This brings me to my primary question: Do examinations really provide as an adequate indication of ability? Imagine a world where intelligence was not limited to the answers students ...
