Theme Of Classism In Slumdog Millionaire
Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, is a movie about the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year
old orphan, and his underdog performance on India s version of the show Who Wants to be a
Millionaire? . Jamal goes all the way, winning 20 million rupees (the currency of India). After the end
of the first night, Jamal gets arrested and accused of cheating. While in the police station, he is
brutally beaten and heavily interrogated as to how he, a slumdog (a child who was raised in the
slums), knows all of the answers. Trying to prove his innocence, he reflects back on his harsh
childhood. He proclaims that the reasoning for him knowing all of the answers is because of all of the
rough experiences he had as a child. The movie flashes back to the moments in which he learned the
answers. Severe poverty, underdevelopment, starvation, violence, and dirtiness are clearly portrayed in
the rugged slums of Mumbai during these flashbacks. The other side is shown, too, with Javed, who is
a slumlord and lives in a massive, guarded mansion. Classism is the reason for both sides of the
spectrum. Slumdog Millionaire portrays the high power society and extreme classism in India and the
oppression and discrimination that derives from it. Classism is one of the most prominent issues
portrayed within Slumdog Millionaire. According to Merriam Webster, a simple definition of classism
is prejudice or discrimination based on class . Classism is very prominent and extreme in India, and it

Hybrid Cars Essay
Hybrid Cars
In my basic presentation, I examined the practicality of HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles), otherwise
known as hybrids. The presentation gave some background about laws pertaining to emissions but at
the same time was designed more to educate the consumer as to what a hybrid actually is. You do not
plug it in!
Current Emission Standards are confusing. At this point in time, we are at a major transition as to what
will be the future of combustion vehicles. Present day standards do not call for the kind of emission
requirements that will account for the current rate of global warming. To fix this problem we must
either cut back on the number of vehicles on the road (not likely to happen) or use less fuel. There are

The increased fuel efficiency of the hybrids actually makes city driving more economical than
highway driving. Overall fuel efficiency (MPG) can be doubled. All of these factors lead to reduced
emissions.
At this point, it would be appropriate to include a brief summary of the Emission Standards as
proposed by the EPA. The Federal mandates on emissions include Tier 1 and Tier 2. Tier 1 took effect
in 1997 and was the first call for a reduction in emissions since the 50s. Tier 2 will be phased in
beginning 2004. Currently, Tier 1 standards take into account the size of the car when determining
emission ratings. When Tier 2 takes effect, the size of the car will no longer matter (i.e. an SUV will
be held to the same standards as a subcompact car). The Tier 1 and Tier 2 guidelines only apply to
passenger cars. Buses, trucks, and construction equipment will have different mandates.
The National LEV (NLEV) standard goes hand in hand with the California Emissions Standards
(developed by the CARB: California Air Resources Board). NLEV is short for the National Low
Emission Vehicle Standard. California came up with its own guidelines for emissions which are more
rigid than today?s Tier 1 standard. The Federal Government adopted this standard into its NLEV
program. It is a voluntary program that was proposed mostly by California and the Northeast US.
NLEV has been adopted to carry car designs from Tier 1 into Tier 2. The NLEV program consists of

important composers, such as Alberto Ginastera, Olivier Messiaen, Riccardo Malipiero, Luigi
Dallapiccola, Bruno Maderna and Aaron Copland. The Variações Rítmicas Op.15 is one of the most
significant Nobre s composition from his second period. In this piece, Nobre explores serial
techniques and percussive elements. The piece is a mix of Brazilian native rhythms and dodecaphonic
music where Nobre explores the Brazilian percussion instruments. Besides the piano, Variações
Rítmicas Op. 15 requires eight typical Brazilian percussion instruments: cuíca aguda (a friction drum
which the performer plays with his hand inside the instrument), xocalho (maraca), afoxê (also known
as cabaça, it is a maraca covered with a network of beads), reco reco (a scraper also known as guiro),
five agogôs (cowbells), pandeiro (tambourine), tamborim (very small high pitched drum), and three
atabaques (conga drums). Nobre also wrote several other works that require percussion instruments,
such as the ballet Rhythmethron op. 27, composed exclusively for percussion instruments, Sonâncias I
op. 37, for piano and percussion; and Sonâncias III op. 49, for two pianos. Those pieces confirms
Bartók s influence on Nobre since he also composed a sonata for two piano and percussion, where he
explores a variety of popular rhythms from Hungary. The 20th century composers who have most
influenced me are Debussy, Bartók and Lutoslawski. These composers were capable of innovation in
musical language without

Massey Ferguson Case
Question 4. a) What are the main problems for MF in 1980? What alternatives were available to MF?
Market wide problems:
• High interest rates – After the 1973 oil crisis and the 1979 energy crisis, the US economy was
affected by stagflation. In an effort to fight excessive inflation, the Fed adopted a tight monetary
policy, raising interest rates (as an illustration, the federal funds rate increased from 11% in 1979 to
20% by June 1981).
This affected all players as it led to a plunge of stock market prices, on the one hand, and an economic
recession, on the other. Furthermore, Massey was particularly hit hard: since it mainly financed its
operations with short term debt, its financing cost went up dramatically.
• Low demand – The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This made it very difficult to negotiate the restructuring of claims the company needed to survive.
Finally, cross default provisions substantially increased Massey s default risk. If any single default
ocurred, all short and long term debt would become callable, leaving the company with no choice but
to stop operations and use its assets to pay off lenders.
• Inability to further finance its operations – While Massey needed new funds even to be able to
honour its commitments, its extremely high leverage and the numerous covenants on its existing loans
impeded it from raising new debt, or equity for that matter. Its 1980 initiative to issue preferred shares
was indefinitely postponed when its largest shareholder refused to take a block of the preferreds as a
vote of confidence.
• Currency risk – In 1980, 76.7% of Massey s engine production was concentrated in the UK.
However, its UK Perkins subsidiary exported more than 86% of its products. As a consequence, when
the pound rose in 1980, it increased Massey s cost of goods sold disproportionate to its revenue,
reducing margins.
• Operating costs of financial distress – Doubts about the future of the company weakened Massey s
distribution network. Furthermore, the bargaining power of its customers and suppliers increased, so
that while barely supporting its daily operations, Massey granted

How Did The Great Depression Affect Women
During this time period of the Great Depression the U.S went through many social and economic
changes. From 1929 1939 people suffered the effects of the stock market crash, business failures and
bank collapses. People took their money out of banks which made the economy worse and put us
deeper into a depression. There was an increase in unemployment and many families lost their jobs
which caused them to lose their homes and savings. Many husbands abandoned their wives and many
people starved. The streets were filled with garbage and filth. Throughout the depression woman were
largely effected in many ways. Unemployment rate reached 25% during the 1930 s and it became
harder to survive. The stock market crash of 1929 damaged heavy industries like steel, rubber, and
chemicals, which were dominated by male workers, much more than lighter industries like
manufacturing, where most female ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manufacturing industries also recovered much faster during the Depression than other industries.
Consequently more males lost their jobs than females; hence it was more difficult for men to find
work in factories during the Depression than it was for women. When men started losing their jobs
woman had to go and find jobs in factories or fields and bring home the bread for the family. Men
began to get angry at woman for taking the jobs of men but overlooked the stereotyping of jobs during
that time period. Many women had no choice but to work, providing the sole source of support for
themselves or their families (Ware, 1).This quote explains that some women weren t married and
needed paid employment to survive during the depression. Men didn t realize this and the fact that
jobs women acquired were not jobs men wanted and firing

Gas Pressure Lab
Question
When the temperature goes up at a constant volume, does the pressure go up proportionally?
Hypothesis
If the pressure of a gas is at a constant volume then pressure will be proportional because as
temperature rises, pressure also goes up.

P ∝ T which can also be written as P=kT and be rearranged as P/T=k and also Pi/Ti = Pf/Tf. This is
considered the Gay Lussac Law. Pressure is proportional to temperature and inversely proportional to
volume and volume is proportional to temperature. As Gay Lussac has a law, Charles and Boyles has
their personal laws. Boyles thinks that there is an inverse relationship between pressure and volume
for gases with constant amounts of gas and at a constant temperature. This statement mathematically
is P ∝ 1/V. It means that pressure is inversely proportional to volume. Charles Law states that the
volume of a fixed amount of gas, at the same pressure, is proportional to its temperature. If
temperature doubles, the volume doubles. Mathematically, it is Vi/Ti=Vf/Tf. All these law combined is
called the combined gas law and can be mathematically expressed like PiVi/Ti = PfVf/Tf. This gas law
includes the shared relationship between pressure, volume, and temperature, which include the
variables in Boyles, Charles and Gay Lussac s Law. The combined gas law shows that pressure is
inversely proportional to volume, or higher volume equals lower pressure, pressure is directly
proportional to temperature or higher temperature equals higher pressure, and also that volume is
directly proportional to temperature, or higher temperature equals higher

Should Congress Have Term Limits Essay
How much do you really know about the American political system? Unfortunately, there are parts of
the American political system that are not up to the challenges of the 21st century yet. As time passes,
society changes. In order to keep the political system running smoothly and doing what it is designed
to do, govern our nation, it may need to make adjustments. One of those parts that is not up to the
challenges of the 21st century is the ability elect new members to Congress. Should members of
Congress have term limits? I believe the answer to that is yes. I will explain why Congress should
have a term limit, possible oppositions, and why those oppositions are not credible. It is important to
realize that being a member of Congress used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this, most members of the US Congress are around 60 years old. This leads to a tendency
of having views and values that don t match up to the 21st century. Some may say they are stuck in the
old days. When looking at common issues such as gay marriage, technology, social security and
retirement, older men and women have very different views than younger men and women. Older
people tend to be against gay marriage and technology, but younger people tend to be fully supportive
of these issues. By having a term limit on Congress, there will be a wider age range. This will lead to
more 21st century views. I feel that this is crucial when trying to keep the American political system
up to date with society and its continuous changes. Compared to most democratic European countries,
America has very few women in Congress. Less than 20% of Congress members are women. By
putting term limits on Congress, women (and men) will have better chances of being elected to office.
Having a more gender balanced Congress is important when it comes to discussing topics such as
abortion and contraceptives. Men typically don t face these issues head on in life like women do, so it
is clear that women are needed to discuss these issues with their own knowledge on the

The Topic Of Controlling Women’S Reproductive Systems Has
The topic of controlling women s reproductive systems has been an issue for many years. About a
century ago, birth control in any form was illegal. As women s rights came to the forefront of
American politics, women fought for the right to vote and gained the ability to use contraception and
eventually get abortions. In 1921, The American Birth Control League formed ; this later became
Planned Parenthood, and gained thirty thousand members in its first three years. This organization
founded the first birth control clinic. In 1938, the US Circuit of Appeals decided a case that permitted
physicians to give information about contraception to their patients. By the 1940s, there were three

States could only enact abortion laws protecting the life of the fetus only in the third trimester, but
exceptions must be made to protect the life of the mother. Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington fought
the case on behalf of Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe) under the claim that the Texas law banning
abortions violated Roe s constitutional rights to privacy (McBride, Roe v. Wade). The Supreme Court
decided in Roe s favor in a 7 2 decision (Oyez, Roe v. Wade). The decision deemed marriage,
contraception, and child rearing as part of a Constitution guaranteed zone of privacy from the 1st, 4th,
9th, and 14th amendments. This decision also deemed a woman s right to terminate her pregnancy as
part of this zone of privacy. The opposition gave three justifications for banning abortions. The first
was a Victorian like social concern to discourage illicit sexual conduct, the second to protect the life of
the mother, and the third to protect prenatal life. The court rejected the first two reasons, and ruled that
fetuses do not fit the definition of a person (McBride) The court also ruled that if a fetus is viable, then
states may disallow abortions as long as the life of the mother is not at stake, and states may restrict
abortions during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Forty six states were affected by this decision.
In 1992, the United States Supreme Court ruled on the Casey v. Planned Parenthood case. While this
case affirmed Roe. v Wade, it

The Role Of Theatrical Version Of Carlos Espinal
After a long absence from the New York scenarios Carlos Espinal is back with his unipersonal Peter
El Rojo The Gorilla, which premiered at the Dante Hall Theater in Atlantic City, New Jersey and the
National Theater of the Dominican Republic, receiving the best critics from experts on the subject.
This time, the New York premiere will take place at the IATI Theater, a well known cultural institution
that has presented dramatic Latin art for over four decades. The famous Franz Kafka story, A Report to
an Academy narrates in simple words the story of a gorilla, who, after learning how to imitate humans,
finds himself receiving a recognition award from the Royal Academy of Sciences. During his
acknowledgment speech, we come to meet his origins and the true reasons that lead to his learning
how to imitate humans. The theatrical version of Carlos Espinal, takes us even further in our
imagination, for this supposed gorilla turned to civilized man, becomes the voice, a desperate cry of
exasperation from any person who s ever been forced to emigrate to foreign lands. The gorilla learns
new ways to feel accepted by a society that in fact, already rejects him for the sole reason of being
different, or being a foreigner. Gorilla Espinal makes us feel the heartaches of a society castrating and
full of prejudice, a society that doesn t forgive that what s different. It takes us by the hand into a place
many have already turned to a home, and many others have visited at some time

Challenges For Russia As A Super Power
CHALLENGES FOR RUSSIA TO BECOME A SUPER POWER
Introduction
1. A turning point was observed in international politics after the elimination of bipolar structure of the
world. Three major accidents happened at the end of cold war.
(a) The collapse of Soviet Union
(b) United States became the sole superpower
(c) Unipolarity in the international politics and imbalance of power
2. In recent years, Russia is involved in transformation of its economic and political policies As a
result of these positive policies Russia has once again on the way to emerge as rising power in
international politics. Following is a list of different potential challenges in the path of Russia to
become a super power again.
Challenges for Russia
3. The main challenges Russia is facing are:
4. Economic collapse. The developing Cold War 2.0 is expected to be a financial war and it is totally
different from the 20th century Cold War. Russian economy is going down and Russian Ruble
compared to United States Dollar has a decline of 30% of its original value in 2014 only.
Figure 1: Ruble Vs US dollar
5. Consequently, many Russian companies are effecting badly. The famous Russian international
airline Dobrolet, has stopped its operations.
6. Energy prices. Russia approximately loses $2bn in its revenues for each dollar reduction in oil
price. The price of energy resources like oil and natural gas is decreasing rapidly nowadays. From
2010 till 2014, the oil prices were almost stable, at about

A Brief Note On The And The Russian Conflict
Novorossiya is a confederation that emerged during and because of the current Ukrainian Conflict.
Also known as New Russia or Union of People s Republics, it consists of the self proclaimed Donetsk
People s Republic and Luhansk People s Republic. It was founded on 24 May 2014 by the signing
behind closed doors of the agreements between self appointed leaders of the two People s Republics.
Neither Donetsk People s Republic nor Luhansk People s Republic are recognized as a sovereign
states by any country or intergovernmental organizations and institutions. Russia, too, despite its
support to the cause, has never officially referred to Novorossiya as a confederation. Both of the
People s Republics, however, are classified as terrorist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking back, once you add all of those factors, it seems that the emergence of the crisis should not
have come as any type of surprise, but it did. Although now, with foresight, it is easy to say that the
rise of the crisis was predictable and inevitable, no one, at the time, expected events to develop as they
did.
To be able to fully understand the purpose and the actions of the Novorossiya terrorist groups, one
must first understand what caused the Ukrainian Conflict to erupt and the many developments that
happened thereafter.
Ukrainian Russian relationship and history
Historically, Russia and Ukraine have had a close and complex relationship, which is important to
understand before making any type of judgments on why the current Conflict evolved as it did.
Although, it is wrong to say that this relationship had always been a peaceful one, the countries have
constantly been closely intervened.
Their common history dates back to the Kievan Rus (882 1240), which is considered the beginning of
the Russian Nation but was geographically located on what is now Ukrainian land, and more
specifically Ukraine s capital Kiev. Following this, Kievan Rus became the Russian Empire,

Men Should Get Paternity Leave from Work
Why not? In today s world where gender equality is slowly taking importance, men getting paternity
leave does not seem like an alien idea. Maternity leaves are never objectionable however when it
comes to paternity leaves it becomes one of the most controversial topics of all times. Reasons for
maternity leaves are well justified as the women have to carry the child with them as part of their body
until the child is born but there are justified reasons for the paternity leave as well. Men have just as
much right, need and obligation to spend quality time bonding with and caring for a newborn. With
families living isolated from close relatives, it may be difficult for the mother s family to support her

Nowadays people prefer living lives their way. When the number of members in the family are
restricted to husband and wife only, it becomes difficult for the lady to cope with even the minor
requirements. It is not always feasible to call the neighbors especially in the metropolitan where all are
busy and you really do not know much about them.
In a world where nobody has the time to stand and take a deep breath paternity leaves come in handy
as it allows the men to take a break from their hectic schedules and give time to their family. It is a
common scene these days that due to work pressure the employees cancels or postpones number of
personal commitments which are seldom recognized by the organizations. Certain jobs require lot of
outstation travels hence they get the least time to support their partner when she needs them the most.
Sometimes the irony is that the traveling is increased during those critical periods leaving the men
regretted forever. Paternity leaves will help people in this sector. I would like to conclude by saying
that both the father and the mother should get a set amount of time they can distribute among
themselves as parental leave. This would allow flexibility and is the most fair option. Only allowing
women to get leave is sexist, but requiring an equal split would ignore the personal needs of

Analysis Of Arthur Miller s Death Of Salesman
Research paper on death of salesman Arthur Miller created stories that express the deepest meanings
of struggle. Miller is the most prominent twentieth century American playwrights. He based his works
on his own life, and his observations of the American scene. Arthur Asher Miller was born 17 October
1915 in Manhattan, New York city. He was the son of Jewish immigrants from Poland. His parents
had a prosperous clothing company. Unfortunately when the stock market crashed, because his family
invested all of their money in the market, they lost everything. The family then moved to a small
house in Brooklyn. This happened during miller s teen years, and because of that miller was shaped by
the poverty that surrounded him. Miller saw the fragility and vulnerability of humans, when they are
faced with a great economic crisis. Miller graduated as an average student from Abraham Lincoln high
school. And due to financial reasons, he worked in an auto part warehouse, and during this time he has
come across anti Semitism, which became a major theme of his later work (Marino). After getting
rejected two times, Miller got enrolled into the University of Michigan, and he started his career as a
playwright at Michigan. In his sophomore year miller wrote No Villain, which is his first play. This
play earned him a scholarship money. In his college years, Miller won several awards for writing
plays. He graduated from college in 1938, and returned to New York, where he worked as a

An Appropriate Plan Of Care For A Patient
Determining what is considered an appropriate plan of care for a patient has always been an area that
has taken on large ethical consideration, especially when the patient does not see eye to eye with
health professionals in the suggested direction of care. Having a congenital disorder resulting in
intellectual and developmental delays has the ability to impact the way an individual may process
information. Once this part of an individual s mental capacity is impaired, it may significantly
influence the extent to which this person is able to make rational decisions, especially if they are not
aware of the potential consequences of their actions. Taking a paternalistic perspective, and choosing
to intervene through abortion and sterilization is the proper solution, as it will likely result in more
good for Kelly in the long run, than it will if is allowed to continue with the pregnancy, and raise the
child.
Argument
According to Gerald Dworkin (1971), paternalism is defined as the interference with a person s liberty
of action justified by reasons referring exclusively to the welfare, good, happiness, needs, interests, or
values of the person being coerced (Yeo Moorhouse, 2011, p.114). This holds the idea that one may
interfere with the freedom of other people for their own good, so long as there is proof of justification
for such actions. Dworkin further developed his idea by stating that there are only two situations in
which you can interfere with someone for

online without physical contact or connection. Adolescents spend countless hours of their lives
attached to devices with the intent of communicating with others, sharing their daily lives, and
acquiring new information, but neglect the other aspects of their lives by spending more time on social
communication and social networking sites. The use of electronic media has made teenagers lack the
desire getting outside their rooms, eating lunch beside the computer and repeating the schedule often
can seriously lead on sedentary life. This sedentary life can affect mind and body. Adolescents who get
stuck at sedentary life tend to eat more junky foods. The mind of teenagers escapes curiosities of
forcing the body to take more quick calories which usually can be found in fast foods that are not
healthy and become worst when the subject lack on movement and exercises. For example, children
who spend many hours in the computer felt hungry and usually end up on ordering fast foods or

A Brief Look at Mary Magdalene
As an influential biblical figure, Mary Magdalene has been the subject of numerous works of art. She
has been represented in a variety of tropes and styles; which were subject to the religious, political,
and social standards of the time. Giacomo Galli s Saint Mary Magdalene was painted in the early
seventeenth century in Italy, at the beginning of the Baroque era. By contorting Magdalene s body,
bathing her in light and encompassing her in darkness, Galli was able to present the viewer with an
image representative of her divided identity.
Galli likely chose to paint the Magdalene because she was one of the most popular saints in Baroque
Italy. As Susan Haskins (author of Mary Magdalen: Myth and Metaphor) notes, from the thirteenth
century, the penitent Magdalene became the most popular image of the saint in Italy, as the perfect
example of a reformed sinner. Magdalene s ______ demonstrated a realistic path of personal
improvement. Her reputation, at the time, revolved around her supposed past as a prostitute.
Historically, this meant that she was cured of a physical ailment and not of prostitution. However, as it
was believed that Magdalene s transformation from prostitute to apostle made her accessible to the
Catholic community, the church exemplified this notion in order to make Magdalene a suitable role
model for repentance.
Religiously charged Baroque paintings of the seventeenth century, such as Galli s Saint Mary
Magdalene, were created by two distinctly

Why Is Gord Downie Significant To Canadian History
Gord Downie was a proud Canadian, rock musician, writer, and activist. He was the lead singer and
songwriter for the The Tragically Hip, from Kingston Ontario, which he began in 1984 and proudly
fronted in until his death in 2017. Gord Downie is significant to Canadian history because he has
raised awareness for Indigenous peoples, helped gain substantial amounts of donation for cancer
research, and wrote songs about Canada and its history.
To begin, Gord Downie is significant to Canadian history because he made Indigenous issues more
prevalent to Canada s modern day society. To start, Gord Downie helped bring awareness to
Indigenous people by writing a book and an album about their struggles called The Secret Path Project
. The Secret Path ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their songs not only spotlighted Canadian stories, but did so in a unique, unconventional, often
cryptic style (3). For example, a song that displays Canadian history that Gord Downie wrote and sang
is Wheat Kings . This song is about David Milgaard, a 16 year old boy who was wrongly convicted of
the rape and murder of a woman. Milgaard stayed in jail for 22 years, and then finally was let out
because he was proven not guilty(6).This is significant because The Tragically Hip are perceived as a
Canada loving band, and though they are, they still write and sing about controversial issues and have
critiqued Canada when our nation does wrong. Another song that was written about Canadian history
is Fifty Mission Cap . This song was written about Bill Barilko, a Toronto Maple leaf player who had
scored the winning goal for Toronto s first Stanley Cup. Barilko, later on that year went on a fishing
trip, but his plane crashed on the way home. He was found dead 11 years after(9). The song talks
about important moments in Canadian sports history, which touches the hearts and is relevant to the
large population of people who are passionate about hockey. To continue, Gord Downie wrote a song
called Three pistols . This song was written about Tom Thomson, a Canadian painter who the founder
of the famous Canadian painting group called The Group Of Seven. Thomson was out at Algonquin
Park on Canoe Lake, painting and canoeing and was later found dead due to drowning. From then on,
there have been many conspiracy theories about his death(8). This song is relevant to Canadians that
are passionate about art and art history because there are so few songs that are about art, not to
mention Canadian art. Overall, Gord Downie told Canadian history throughout his music, and touched
on contrasting Canadian topics, solidifying his significance to

Original Summary: After getting into a fight to protect another patient from the staff, Nurse Ratched
urges McMurphy to apologize, but he refuses and gets subjected to multiple electroshock treatments
and the others, knowing that the nurse will continue to do this to him, urge him to escape. McMurphy
refuses and tells everyone that he will sneak in prostitutes tonight for the date he scheduled for Billy,
and later he plans to make everything look like an escape attempt so that no one will get in trouble and
so he can run away from the ward. The plan fails and everyone is caught. Nurse Ratched threatens to
tell Billy s mother of what happened and he later ends up killing himself. Nurse Ratched blames
McMurphy for the deaths of the patients and out of anger, McMurphy strangles her. Later, many of the

He is able to freely make his choices again and has learned to overcome the adversities of the world.
He has learned to become big again and not let others bring him down. This quote shows that Chief is
now strong enough to go back home and face the very things that caused him to become broken. He is
still damaged, but is now able to face the world head on as he has learned from McMurphy. I chose
this quote because it shows the change in Chief, how he went from a scared giant in the beginning of
the story to a strong enough individual that is able to walk forward on his own. McMurphy ends up
losing his voice in the end, sacrificing himself for the freedom of the other patients and Chief doesn t
truly gain his own power until he chooses to end McMurphy s life as an act of mercy and choosing to

Comparing Mark Twain s The Adventures Of Allie And Pearl...
Thomas ship made it to the Atlantic about an hour after daybreak it was a lot quicker going downriver
than up. He was relieved not to see any other ships a sail as he pointed the eagle figurehead toward the
north and Charleston Harbor. He just hoped his luck continued and he made it in easily. The closer
they came to harbor the harder it was to keep thoughts of Allie at bay. Staring ahead, he tried to keep a
watchful eye on the horizon he estimated that they should make it to Charleston about suppertime. »
Allie had fallen asleep in the tub of water she woke with the worst headache she had ever had; her
body was withered, her fingers wrinkled like the skin of a prune. She hastily got out of the tub of cold
water and dried her body and then

Vagina Monologue
The vagina monologue was about learning about your vagina because most girls don t know about
what is going on with their body. They interview different women and asked them questions about
their vagina like how would you dress it , What would it say and more. Some other key points were
that each person told a story of how they were raped and how they didn t want to look at their selves
after that happen to them but, also it was mainly about womanhood and informing the audience about
violence against women. The vagina monologues is really to fight for women and protect them.
The most interesting thing I learned was when they told the story My Vagina Was My village it was
heartbreaking when I heard what happen to the women on the Bosian

Hong Kong s Air Pollution Problems
Hong Kong s Air Pollution problems
Hong Kong s air pollution has reached unprecedented, phenomenal levels, which seems to be growing
controllably with each passing day, and creating worse situations. Despite there are desperate and
overwhelming measures taken by the Hong Kong Government Authority to address and rectify the
situation, the situation of air pollution is turning grimmer by the day.
After the Second World War, the major working sector in China began a massive shift from the
agrarian to the industrial sector, a process that was accelerated by the War. Today there are eighty two
percent of the citizens in China are living in urban areas as compared to the large numbers of the
citizens that were living in the rural areas in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides, the smog from neighboring China also contributes to high levels of air pollution in this city,
and exacerbates already bad conditions in Hong Kong, which has been defying solution for all these
years. In the event this uncontrollable situation continues to thrive, most denizens and citizenry of
Hong Kong would have to make a mass exodus out of the country, much to the chagrin of the
Government and Civic Authorities (EPD, An overview of the air quality and air pollution control in
Hong Kong, 2015).
According to recent studies conducted by the University of Hong Kong, the current levels of pollution
in Hong Kong were at least 3 times that prevailing in New York and twice of that found in London.
20% of the residents of Hong Kong are affected health wise by the pollution for which there now does
not seem to be ready or resolvable answer (Mirandila, 2012).
The Hong Kong government looks on as hapless spectators as pollution related issues continue to
grow, unabated, and all their best control stratagems seem to be getting them nowhere. The issue is
progressing in recent years, thanks to proliferation of industries, power plants, factories, which spew
tons of wastes into the Hong Kong atmosphere every day, besides tonnes of CO2 and other deadly
chemicals from the plethora of plying vehicles on Hong Kong streets at any given point of times,

Dominant Theory Of Public Administration Essay
In the following paragraphs, I will explain the dominant theory in public administration practice and
elaborate on the major theoretical assumptions of the Old Public Administration. As stated in the
question, the world has transformed through globalization, information technology, and devolution of
authority since the latter part of the last century. The dominant theory in public administration has
been replaced from the traditional rule based, authority driven processes of the Old Public
Administration with market based, competition driven tactics in the New Public Management,
beginning in the 1980s (Kettl, 2000, p. 3). This was an effort to privatize government and streamline
public administration to maximize efficiency and productivity. Heavily relying on market mechanisms
to guide public programs, public administrators in the New Public Management are encouraged to
steer, not row, meaning they should not bear the burden of delivering services, but instead define
programs that others will carry out, through contracting or other means (Denhardt Denhardt, 2011, p.
13). Core values of the New Public Management include using private sector and business approaches
to the public sector, squeezing as many services as possible from smaller revenues, market style
incentives, providing customers more choices, and focusing on outputs and outcomes instead of
mainly processes.
The New Public Management in the United States was introduced and popularized by David Osborne
and Ted

Review Of The Elder Scrolls
Another Bethesda game and yes, it is great! Okay, I will elaborate my opinion; Bethesda makes lots of
great role playing (RPG) games with open world environments. Although, I never could understand
why Bethesda likes to kick off their amazing voice actors off the face of the Earth. I m pretty sure if
Bethesda was able to cast Mel Blanc and James Earl Jones as voice actors they would probably be
either Gordon Freeman or Link. In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, they kill off Patrick Stewart in
addition to that we get ten minutes of Liam Neeson in Fallout 3. This game has a gripping and
expansive showcase of how much depth and great excitement can be packed into one videogame. It
does justice to the rest of the Fallout franchise, including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like Red Dead Redemption, I would recommend the Game of the Year Edition since you get the most
of the game. Along with that similarity, Fallout also has a slow motion mechanic called the Vault Tec
Assisted Targeting or V.A.T.S. system, where you are able to pick what part of the target s body like
head, body, limbs or weapons to shoot off. The gameplay is solid and the story is decent, it is best to
ignore most of the story because of it being a pretty bland story telling, but I would recommend
reading the story and the newspaper through the land to give the game character.
NITPICK CENTER: Straight off the bat of Fallout 3, you are giving the trauma of the game s
opening, in which you are dumped bleary eyed and bloodstained straight out of the womb. Then the
game expects you, a newborn baby, to come up with a gender, name, and future appearance. I
personally find it rude to put that much pressure on a baby. Then the story goes Christopher Nolan by
skipping parts of your life. Afterwards, your father, Liam Neeson, ditches you and leaves the vault you
have been living in your entire life. Being motherless since your mom died giving birth and Liam
Neeson ended up like Picard, you are also fatherless. Then when the protagonist is ready to step out in
the real world, the immersion breaks when the game says, Hey, are you satisfied with your first ten
minutes of the game because if you aren t just step into this DeLorean and travel back to the past? I
just do

Charles De Gaulle Research Paper
Charles de Gaulle was born on November twenty second, eighteen ninety in Lille, France. His mother
was Jeanne Maillot de Gaulle and his father was Henri de Gaulle. He had three brothers, Xavier de
Gaulle, Pierre de Gaulle, Jaques de Gaulle, and one sister, Marie Agnès de Gaulle
From a young age, he wanted to be in the military. He took his childhood passion and joined the
military academy of St. Cyr. He did well in school, and graduated thirteenth in his class of around 200.
Upon leaving St. Cyr, de Gaulle joined the thirty third infantry regiment where he met Philippe Pétain,
the colonel of the regiment and future marshal of France.
De Gaulle s first taste of real combat would come in World War one. De Gaulle gained recognition by
crawling out with his men into no mans land to eavesdrop on the enemy. For the information he had
discovered, he was given the croix de guerre (Cross of War), a french military decoration. He was
soon promoted to captain.
Unfortunately, not long after his promotion de Gaulle would be captured in the battle of Verdun and be
taken to a german POW camp where he would stay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then he was promoted to brigadier general and given command of the Fourth Armored Division.
However, France was not well equipped to fight a war against Germany, and the French government
began seeking an armistice with Germany. De Gaulle found this to be unacceptable and traveled to
England to continue in the struggle of ridding France of German occupation. While in England, de
Gaulle took to radio to get his message of a free France out to the people and gradually drew in
supporters. De Gaulles relationship with Britain and America were rather strained during his stay in
England, he often alienated himself to the two allied countries with his personality and comments. He
soon founded the Free French Forces and gathered as many French to his cause as he

  • 2. Theme Of Classism In Slumdog Millionaire Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, is a movie about the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year old orphan, and his underdog performance on India s version of the show Who Wants to be a Millionaire? . Jamal goes all the way, winning 20 million rupees (the currency of India). After the end of the first night, Jamal gets arrested and accused of cheating. While in the police station, he is brutally beaten and heavily interrogated as to how he, a slumdog (a child who was raised in the slums), knows all of the answers. Trying to prove his innocence, he reflects back on his harsh childhood. He proclaims that the reasoning for him knowing all of the answers is because of all of the rough experiences he had as a child. The movie flashes back to the moments in which he learned the answers. Severe poverty, underdevelopment, starvation, violence, and dirtiness are clearly portrayed in the rugged slums of Mumbai during these flashbacks. The other side is shown, too, with Javed, who is a slumlord and lives in a massive, guarded mansion. Classism is the reason for both sides of the spectrum. Slumdog Millionaire portrays the high power society and extreme classism in India and the oppression and discrimination that derives from it. Classism is one of the most prominent issues portrayed within Slumdog Millionaire. According to Merriam Webster, a simple definition of classism is prejudice or discrimination based on class . The presentation gave some background about laws pertaining to emissions but at the same time was designed more to educate the consumer as to what a hybrid actually is. You do not plug it in! Current Emission Standards are confusing. At this point in time, we are at a major transition as to what will be the future of combustion vehicles. Present day standards do not call for the kind of emission requirements that will account for the current rate of global warming. To fix this problem we must either cut back on the number of vehicles on the road (not likely to happen) or use less fuel. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The increased fuel efficiency of the hybrids actually makes city driving more economical than highway driving. Overall fuel efficiency (MPG) can be doubled. All of these factors lead to reduced emissions. At this point, it would be appropriate to include a brief summary of the Emission Standards as proposed by the EPA. The Federal mandates on emissions include Tier 1 and Tier 2. Tier 1 took effect in 1997 and was the first call for a reduction in emissions since the 50s. Tier 2 will be phased in beginning 2004. Currently, Tier 1 standards take into account the size of the car when determining emission ratings. When Tier 2 takes effect, the size of the car will no longer matter (i.e. an SUV will be held to the same standards as a subcompact car). The Tier 1 and Tier 2 guidelines only apply to passenger cars. Buses, trucks, and construction equipment will have different mandates. The National LEV (NLEV) standard goes hand in hand with the California Emissions Standards (developed by the CARB: California Air Resources Board). NLEV is short for the National Low Emission Vehicle Standard. California came up with its own guidelines for emissions which are more rigid than today?s Tier 1 standard. The Federal Government adopted this standard into its NLEV program. It is a voluntary program that was proposed mostly by California and the Northeast US. NLEV has been adopted to carry car designs from Tier 1 into Tier 2. The NLEV program consists of six different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Variacoes Ritmicas Op.15 Op.15 Op.15 Essay important composers, such as Alberto Ginastera, Olivier Messiaen, Riccardo Malipiero, Luigi Dallapiccola, Bruno Maderna and Aaron Copland. The Variações Rítmicas Op.15 is one of the most significant Nobre s composition from his second period. In this piece, Nobre explores serial techniques and percussive elements. The piece is a mix of Brazilian native rhythms and dodecaphonic music where Nobre explores the Brazilian percussion instruments. Besides the piano, Variações Rítmicas Op. 15 requires eight typical Brazilian percussion instruments: cuíca aguda (a friction drum which the performer plays with his hand inside the instrument), xocalho (maraca), afoxê (also known as cabaça, it is a maraca covered with a network of beads), reco reco (a scraper also known as guiro), five agogôs (cowbells), pandeiro (tambourine), tamborim (very small high pitched drum), and three atabaques (conga drums). Nobre also wrote several other works that require percussion instruments, such as the ballet Rhythmethron op. 27, composed exclusively for percussion instruments, Sonâncias I op. 37, for piano and percussion; and Sonâncias III op. 49, for two pianos. Those pieces confirms Bartók s influence on Nobre since he also composed a sonata for two piano and percussion, where he explores a variety of popular rhythms from Hungary. The 20th century composers who have most influenced me are Debussy, Bartók and Lutoslawski. These composers were capable of innovation in musical language without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Massey Ferguson Case Question 4. a) What are the main problems for MF in 1980? What alternatives were available to MF? Market wide problems: • High interest rates – After the 1973 oil crisis and the 1979 energy crisis, the US economy was affected by stagflation. In an effort to fight excessive inflation, the Fed adopted a tight monetary policy, raising interest rates (as an illustration, the federal funds rate increased from 11% in 1979 to 20% by June 1981). This affected all players as it led to a plunge of stock market prices, on the one hand, and an economic recession, on the other. Furthermore, Massey was particularly hit hard: since it mainly financed its operations with short term debt, its financing cost went up dramatically. • Low demand – The ... Finally, cross default provisions substantially increased Massey s default risk. If any single default ocurred, all short and long term debt would become callable, leaving the company with no choice but to stop operations and use its assets to pay off lenders. • Inability to further finance its operations – While Massey needed new funds even to be able to honour its commitments, its extremely high leverage and the numerous covenants on its existing loans impeded it from raising new debt, or equity for that matter. Its 1980 initiative to issue preferred shares was indefinitely postponed when its largest shareholder refused to take a block of the preferreds as a vote of confidence. • Currency risk – In 1980, 76.7% of Massey s engine production was concentrated in the UK. However, its UK Perkins subsidiary exported more than 86% of its products. As a consequence, when the pound rose in 1980, it increased Massey s cost of goods sold disproportionate to its revenue, reducing margins. • Operating costs of financial distress – Doubts about the future of the company weakened Massey s distribution network. Furthermore, the bargaining power of its customers and suppliers increased, so that while barely supporting its daily operations, Massey granted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Boyles thinks that there is an inverse relationship between pressure and volume for gases with constant amounts of gas and at a constant temperature. This statement mathematically is P ∝ 1/V. It means that pressure is inversely proportional to volume. Charles Law states that the volume of a fixed amount of gas, at the same pressure, is proportional to its temperature. If temperature doubles, the volume doubles. Mathematically, it is Vi/Ti=Vf/Tf. All these law combined is called the combined gas law and can be mathematically expressed like PiVi/Ti = PfVf/Tf. This gas law includes the shared relationship between pressure, volume, and temperature, which include the variables in Boyles, Charles and Gay Lussac s Law. Unfortunately, there are parts of the American political system that are not up to the challenges of the 21st century yet. As time passes, society changes. In order to keep the political system running smoothly and doing what it is designed to do, govern our nation, it may need to make adjustments. One of those parts that is not up to the challenges of the 21st century is the ability elect new members to Congress. Should members of Congress have term limits? I believe the answer to that is yes. I will explain why Congress should have a term limit, possible oppositions, and why those oppositions are not credible. It is important to realize that being a member of Congress used to ... This leads to a tendency of having views and values that don t match up to the 21st century. Some may say they are stuck in the old days. When looking at common issues such as gay marriage, technology, social security and retirement, older men and women have very different views than younger men and women. Older people tend to be against gay marriage and technology, but younger people tend to be fully supportive of these issues. By having a term limit on Congress, there will be a wider age range. This will lead to more 21st century views. I feel that this is crucial when trying to keep the American political system up to date with society and its continuous changes. Compared to most democratic European countries, America has very few women in Congress. Less than 20% of Congress members are women. By putting term limits on Congress, women (and men) will have better chances of being elected to office. States could only enact abortion laws protecting the life of the fetus only in the third trimester, but exceptions must be made to protect the life of the mother. Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington fought the case on behalf of Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe) under the claim that the Texas law banning abortions violated Roe s constitutional rights to privacy (McBride, Roe v. Wade). The Supreme Court decided in Roe s favor in a 7 2 decision (Oyez, Roe v. Wade). The decision deemed marriage, contraception, and child rearing as part of a Constitution guaranteed zone of privacy from the 1st, 4th, 9th, and 14th amendments. This decision also deemed a woman s right to terminate her pregnancy as part of this zone of privacy. The opposition gave three justifications for banning abortions. The first was a Victorian like social concern to discourage illicit sexual conduct, the second to protect the life of the mother, and the third to protect prenatal life. The court rejected the first two reasons, and ruled that fetuses do not fit the definition of a person (McBride) The court also ruled that if a fetus is viable, then states may disallow abortions as long as the life of the mother is not at stake, and states may restrict abortions during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. By contorting Magdalene s body, bathing her in light and encompassing her in darkness, Galli was able to present the viewer with an image representative of her divided identity. Galli likely chose to paint the Magdalene because she was one of the most popular saints in Baroque Italy. As Susan Haskins (author of Mary Magdalen: Myth and Metaphor) notes, from the thirteenth century, the penitent Magdalene became the most popular image of the saint in Italy, as the perfect example of a reformed sinner. Magdalene s ______ demonstrated a realistic path of personal improvement. Her reputation, at the time, revolved around her supposed past as a prostitute. Historically, this meant that she was cured of a physical ailment and not of prostitution. However, as it was believed that Magdalene s transformation from prostitute to apostle made her accessible to the Catholic community, the church exemplified this notion in order to make Magdalene a suitable role model for repentance. Religiously charged Baroque paintings of the seventeenth century, such as Galli s Saint Mary Magdalene, were created by two distinctly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, a song that displays Canadian history that Gord Downie wrote and sang is Wheat Kings . This song is about David Milgaard, a 16 year old boy who was wrongly convicted of the rape and murder of a woman. Milgaard stayed in jail for 22 years, and then finally was let out because he was proven not guilty(6).This is significant because The Tragically Hip are perceived as a Canada loving band, and though they are, they still write and sing about controversial issues and have critiqued Canada when our nation does wrong. Another song that was written about Canadian history is Fifty Mission Cap . This song was written about Bill Barilko, a Toronto Maple leaf player who had scored the winning goal for Toronto s first Stanley Cup. Hong Kong s Air Pollution Problems Hong Kong s Air Pollution problems Hong Kong s air pollution has reached unprecedented, phenomenal levels, which seems to be growing controllably with each passing day, and creating worse situations. Despite there are desperate and overwhelming measures taken by the Hong Kong Government Authority to address and rectify the situation, the situation of air pollution is turning grimmer by the day. After the Second World War, the major working sector in China began a massive shift from the agrarian to the industrial sector, a process that was accelerated by the War. Today there are eighty two percent of the citizens in China are living in urban areas as compared to the large numbers of the citizens that were living in the rural areas in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Besides, the smog from neighboring China also contributes to high levels of air pollution in this city, and exacerbates already bad conditions in Hong Kong, which has been defying solution for all these years. In the event this uncontrollable situation continues to thrive, most denizens and citizenry of Hong Kong would have to make a mass exodus out of the country, much to the chagrin of the Government and Civic Authorities (EPD, An overview of the air quality and air pollution control in Hong Kong, 2015). According to recent studies conducted by the University of Hong Kong, the current levels of pollution in Hong Kong were at least 3 times that prevailing in New York and twice of that found in London. 20% of the residents of Hong Kong are affected health wise by the pollution for which there now does not seem to be ready or resolvable answer (Mirandila, 2012). The Hong Kong government looks on as hapless spectators as pollution related issues continue to grow, unabated, and all their best control stratagems seem to be getting them nowhere. The issue is progressing in recent years, thanks to proliferation of industries, power plants, factories, which spew tons of wastes into the Hong Kong atmosphere every day, besides tonnes of CO2 and other deadly chemicals from the plethora of plying vehicles on Hong Kong streets at any given point of times, adding to the ... • 28. Dominant Theory Of Public Administration Essay In the following paragraphs, I will explain the dominant theory in public administration practice and elaborate on the major theoretical assumptions of the Old Public Administration. As stated in the question, the world has transformed through globalization, information technology, and devolution of authority since the latter part of the last century. The dominant theory in public administration has been replaced from the traditional rule based, authority driven processes of the Old Public Administration with market based, competition driven tactics in the New Public Management, beginning in the 1980s (Kettl, 2000, p. 3). This was an effort to privatize government and streamline public administration to maximize efficiency and productivity. Heavily relying on market mechanisms to guide public programs, public administrators in the New Public Management are encouraged to steer, not row, meaning they should not bear the burden of delivering services, but instead define programs that others will carry out, through contracting or other means (Denhardt Denhardt, 2011, p. 13). Core values of the New Public Management include using private sector and business approaches to the public sector, squeezing as many services as possible from smaller revenues, market style incentives, providing customers more choices, and focusing on outputs and outcomes instead of mainly processes. The New Public Management in the United States was introduced and popularized by David Osborne and Ted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Review Of The Elder Scrolls Another Bethesda game and yes, it is great! Okay, I will elaborate my opinion; Bethesda makes lots of great role playing (RPG) games with open world environments. Although, I never could understand why Bethesda likes to kick off their amazing voice actors off the face of the Earth. I m pretty sure if Bethesda was able to cast Mel Blanc and James Earl Jones as voice actors they would probably be either Gordon Freeman or Link. In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, they kill off Patrick Stewart in addition to that we get ten minutes of Liam Neeson in Fallout 3. This game has a gripping and expansive showcase of how much depth and great excitement can be packed into one videogame. It does justice to the rest of the Fallout franchise, including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like Red Dead Redemption, I would recommend the Game of the Year Edition since you get the most of the game. Along with that similarity, Fallout also has a slow motion mechanic called the Vault Tec Assisted Targeting or V.A.T.S. system, where you are able to pick what part of the target s body like head, body, limbs or weapons to shoot off. The gameplay is solid and the story is decent, it is best to ignore most of the story because of it being a pretty bland story telling, but I would recommend reading the story and the newspaper through the land to give the game character. NITPICK CENTER: Straight off the bat of Fallout 3, you are giving the trauma of the game s opening, in which you are dumped bleary eyed and bloodstained straight out of the womb. Then the game expects you, a newborn baby, to come up with a gender, name, and future appearance. I personally find it rude to put that much pressure on a baby. Then the story goes Christopher Nolan by skipping parts of your life. Afterwards, your father, Liam Neeson, ditches you and leaves the vault you have been living in your entire life. Being motherless since your mom died giving birth and Liam Neeson ended up like Picard, you are also fatherless. Then when the protagonist is ready to step out in the real world, the immersion breaks when the game says, Hey, are you satisfied with your first ten minutes of the game because if you aren t just step into this DeLorean and travel back to the past?
