Essay Topics On Love
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay Topics On Love" may initially seem like a
straightforward task, given the abundance of literature, poetry, and cultural references
surrounding the theme of love. However, delving into the intricacies of this complex and
multifaceted emotion can prove to be a challenging endeavor.
Firstly, love is a subjective and highly personal experience, making it difficult to establish a
universally accepted definition or framework. Different cultures, individuals, and historical
periods have portrayed love in diverse ways, adding layers of complexity to the exploration of
the topic. Attempting to capture the essence of love requires navigating through a vast array of
emotions, from the euphoria of romantic love to the profound connections found in familial and
platonic relationships.
Moreover, the challenge lies in striking a balance between theoretical discussions and practical
examples. A successful essay on love should not only discuss the various philosophical
perspectives on love but also incorporate real-life examples and case studies to illustrate the
diverse manifestations of love across different contexts.
Furthermore, addressing the potential contradictions and paradoxes inherent in the concept of
love adds an additional layer of complexity. Love can be both a source of profound joy and
intense pain, and exploring these contrasting facets requires a nuanced and empathetic approach.
Crafting an essay on love also demands a thoughtful consideration of the societal and cultural
influences that shape our understanding of love. The portrayal of love in literature, art, and
media contributes to the construction of societal norms and expectations, making it essential to
analyze how these external factors impact our perceptions of love.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Essay Topics On Love" involves navigating
through the intricate web of emotions, perspectives, and cultural influences that surround this
universal yet elusive concept. It requires a careful blend of theoretical discussions, real-life
examples, and an exploration of the complexities inherent in the nature of love.

The Starling Research Paper
What do the Starling, a lovely songbird that fills the air with their joyous tunes, the
Asian carp, a symbol of prosperity and longevity in many Asian cultures, and the
Norway maple, a smoke and dust resistant tree have in common? They are
merciless invaders, massacring native plants, devouring crops, and decimating
aquatic flora and fauna. The Starling, first introduced in a flock of 60, now travel
in massive hordes up to 1 million strong. These massive groups can consume 20
tons of potatoes, rattling a farmer s income during harvest. The Norway maple
displaces native plant species. Finally, perhaps the deadliest, most ruthless invader,
the Asian carp, was introduced in the 1900 s to control parasite and weed growth.
Today, the out of control fish out compete other fish, and are believed to lower water
quality, therefore killing off sensitive organisms such as native mussels. These fish
are threatening the Great Lakes, as they are slowly moving north through the
Mississippi river. The Asian carp would kill off native fish, wrecking the $7 billion a
year fishing industry. These invaders must be stopped.... Show more content on

An invasive species can affect any and all ecosystems. Humans have had a major
role in this, creating a pathway for many organisms to be transported as decoration,
by attaching themselves to boats, and even as pets, who are later released into the
wild. Invasive species are not confined to one ecosystem or region, as wherever
humans can travel, an invasive species is able to
Cato s Speech In Rome
(The scene opens to Cato s speech in Rome)
Cato the Elder: I believe it is a unanimous decision that we eliminate any further threat
to the Roman Republic from Carthage.
(Cheers from the audience)
Cato the Elder: Furthermore, I consider, that Carthage must be destroyed.
(Setting dissolves into discussion of war plans)
Narrator: Roman consuls, Lucius Marcius and Manius Manilius, discuss options
regarding their declaration of war against Carthage.
Lucius: Carthage has declared war on Numidia in response to their territorial
expansion without our consent. They have broken the treaty that ended the previous
war by declaring war against their neighboring state.

Manius: Yes, Lucius, you were right and I apologize for the loss that I brought upon
the Romans. Next time, I will take this into account and consider our plans more
carefully.
Lucius: I appreciate this, Manius. However, for you there will not be a next time
because drastic measures need to be taken which is why I am replacing you with
Scipio Aemilianus.
Narrator: As a result of the loss, Manius was replaced by Scipio Aemilianus in attempt
to strengthen the Roman army. This greatly influences the war, as the Romans are
strengthened and have a new perspective on the war against Carthage.
(The war continues under the command of Scipio Aemilianus)
Lucius (to Scipio): We need to take immediate action if we want to prevail above
Carthage.
Scipio: We will administer the building of a wall around Carthage, including the
harbour. This will prevent Carthage from receiving any more supplies or resources.
Lucius: Agreed. This needs to happen at the earliest convenience possible.

Film Analysis Of The Movie Ex Machina
In this essay I will be taking an in depth look at the movie Ex Machina, and
analyzing scenes of the film and look for a deeper meaning and possible
foreshadowing of things to follow in the film. In the film Ex Machina, we are led to
believe that the main points in the film are AI s and testing whether they can be
conscious, have emotions and basically have all the qualities and traits a human
portrays. Caleb who is believed to be chosen at random by Nathan to take part in
being the person to test the AI, realizes that is all, but random as Nathan had a
purpose in choosing Caleb to take part in his tests. A test as to whether the AI in the
film, Ava can break the communication barrierwith Caleb her during sessions that

Caleb s room that he arrives in shortly after, has no windows and Nathan simply
explains that it s a research facility and windows are not needed, and he has a lot of
things in his facility that he can t take the chance of them being seen or exposed to
someone on the outside. While it may be somewhat accurate according to Nathan
and the situation, I think the windowless rooms and the off limit rooms are to give
off a sense of seclusion to the audience and also to Caleb in the film, as it helps
contribute to his eventual meltdown towards the end of the movie.
Another deeper aspect revolves around the relationship formed between Caleb and
Ava, as well as how much Nathan knows about their relationship and everything he
has to do with them having feelings for each other and his awareness of it. At first,
you realize the power outages and you question as to whether Nathan is watching or
not, because surely he knows Ava has something to do with it and he s not stupid
enough to just let them happen and lose those few moments of knowing what they
are talking about. Later, we see that Nathan does indeed know and sets up his own
cameras, but the more I thought the more I wondered if he let them happen on
purpose to get them to confess certain things to each other in those moments. Nathan
being a programmer and a pretty smart guy, surely, he could fix the power outages
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is a well noted American leader, who is known primarily
for his role in the African American civil rights movement of the 20th century in
USA. He is often regarded as a champion of human rights and considered to be not
only associated with the cause of racial discrimination against the African
Americans, but also with other social causes relating to injustice, unfairness and
discrimination in the American society. He also holds the privilege of being the
youngest ever person in the history to have received the prestigious Nobel Peace
Prize1. Besides being a well renowned social activist, he was also a Baptist minister
and had a degree in Theology and Divinity2. Since he had such an active and stellar
political career, his political and social beliefs and his achievements in those areas
have received a lot more attention than his religious beliefs and philosophies that he
conformed to. In this article an attempt is made to highlight his religious
contributions to the American theology. Martin Luther King was born on 15th
January in the year 1929 in the rural parts of the state of Georgia2. His family was
deeply rooted in the Christian faith and his father and grandfather, both were
associated with the Baptist churches during their lifetime. His grandfather was a
minister of a church. After his death, Martin Luther King s father became a pastor of
that church2 3. His familial background was quite modest and had a great influence

1. Why does each blind man have a different idea of the elephant? Are any of the men
correct in their interpretation? Are any of the men wrong? Explain your reasoning.
Each blind man has a different idea of the elephant because they are only looking for
the truth from their own personal experiences. Each only experiencing bits and pieces
of the overall truth. I believe that each of the men is correct in their interpretation of
the elephant but without their vision, they cannot see the truth before them. They are
all wrong with their interpretation because they are unwilling in the beginning of the
story to experience any of the other blind men s experiences or interpretations. The

Criminal Trial Stages
List and define the stages of a criminal trial.
1. Arrested: The first step is a person may be arrested if the police have probable
cause that he or she did the crime. Meaning probable cause is reasonable suspicion
that someone has committed a crime. Moreover, police have a reason to suspect
them, because someone saw them commit the crime, there is evidence available, and
someone s testimony.
2. Accused sent to jail or released on bail: If a person is arrested and he does not pay
bail, he will have to go to jail or prison until his trial. This can last anywhere up to
one week, to a month depending on the court s docket. If a person pays out bail they
give the court the money, and when they show up for court they give that money back.
The Pros And Cons Of Being A Registered Nurse
What exactly is a nurse? A nurse covers a lot of ground in a day, but is always
there when you re in need. Nursing is a selfless profession. It is a career where they
give special assistance to patients in areas related to their expertise. Not only do they
affect the patient, but also the lives of their families and friends.
A registered nurse is one of the many types of nurses. To be a registered nurse, you
have to have at least a bachelor of science degree in nursing and pass the NCLEX
RN certification program. Some of the colleges in Arkansas that offer a registered
nursing program are: University of Central Arkansas (UCA), Arkansas State

Analysis Of The Hotel Rebuttal Of The Information
In response to the hotels rebuttal of the information I provided
Use of prior grievance settlements improper :
I would like to point out that the employer is in violation of the very thing they are
accusing the union of. If you look at the employer s EXHIBIT 4(A) Mr. Gleason
attempts to use a document that supposedly shows a limitation of back pay to 60
days, however, that class action grievance never made it to arbitration, which leads
me to believe if we were to look at the actual settlement letter it would state: this
agreement is non precedent setting and shall not be used or introduced in any
mediation or arbitration as with every other settlement we agree to outside of binding
arbitration.
The employer also states: The Union s use of the prior settlements in its presentation
to the Mediator is that it may adversely affect the Hotel s ability to resolve cases in
the future. The hotels use of a case that was settled outside arbitration was referenced,
when Gary Au s case, regarding the same issue, was settled through binding
arbitration, with no limitation on the back pay.
As well as: It is often in everyone s best interests to resolve a matter rather than spend
the time and money on litigation. The hotel states they settle cases, often paying more
money than they believe they would have paid had we gone to arbitration. The union
holds this same position as well, the Union has accepted lower settlements than we
believe would have been achieved through
Black Man And White Woman In Dark Green Rowboat

Louis XIV And The Development Of English Nationalism
In 1688 1689, England underwent a revolution that reshaped its monarchy. When
James II took the throne in 1685, the public was optimistic, but this quickly
changed. The public s view of James II went from optimistic to cynical because of
the King s refusal to take action against the French. Instead of taking action, many
viewed James II as becoming like the French monarch. In conjunction with a
declining support, James II and his wife had produced a male heir in the summer of
1688, insuring that a catholic would inherit the throne. The birth of a Catholic heir
was the breaking point for the English. The result was the English sending secret
messages to Prince William of Orange, inviting him to invade England. Marking the
start of the revolution.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When James II inherited the throne in 1685, the public expected James II to take
action against the French monarch King Louis XIV. The English people feared
King Louis XIV s would try to create a universal monarch. If Louis XIV had
created a universal monarch, all other countries would have lost their independence.
For the English, it would have meant the end to the national identity they all
valued. Unfortunately for James II, he did not take action against France. Instead,
many believed and feared that James II wanted to change the English government
to one modeled after the French Government. This fear escalated when James II
attempted to suspend the test acts by issuing the Declaration of Indulgence.
Although this declaration was supposed to encourage religious tolerance, many
English citizens did not view it that way. They viewed it as treat to the established
parliament in England. This increased fears because many compared James II
declaration to Louis XIV s acts when he invaded the supreme legal authority of
France. Because of their fear of being Frenchified, the English invited the Prince of
Orange to invade England, starting the revolution. To justify this action, Pincus
describes it best. He said, English loyalty was primarily to English law and English
customs [national identity] rather than a particular monarch. Since James had
violated that law, he ceased to be an English king and was no longer owed
obedience. In the end, the Prince of Orange arrived with the support of the majority
of the English. As a result, James II abdicated and fled to France. The Nationalist
revolution of 1688 1689 had
Weaknesses Of Ford Motor Company
Strengths The brand name of Ford and its loyal following of its well renowned
product line are strengths in the industry. Ford has long held the crown as the seller
of the top selling truck line in the U.S. The Mustang and the Taurus product lines
have long held iconic status in the automobile industry. Ford is also known as an
affordable American brand with international appeal.
Weakness One of the weaknesses is higher cost compared to the competitors such as
General Motors and Chrysler. In addition, Ford has an abundance of an expensive
supply of vehicle models that cost to maintain. Ford is also known to have bad
financial management and late in innovation.
External Opportunities The Ford Motor Company has the opportunity to sell off non
core brands that are not generating enough revenue. It has the opportunity to enhance
the brand in emerging economies and create innovation for new models like hybrids,
electric, and hydrogen cars. They also have reduced levels of debt.
Threats Huge debt and pension liability are one of Ford Motor Company s threats.
Fierce competition in the global market, global slowdown in car consumption and
increasing raw material prices are additional threats that Ford must face.
Problems at Ford Motor Company
A major part of a company s reputation is how the company handles their problems,
including the opinion of others. Although Ford realizes the majority of the profits
come from North America, the second largest automaker in Detroit

System analysis and recommendation report
In this section, I present a system analysis and recommendation report on the
Natividad Medical Center s Hospital Computer Information Systems (HCIS) network
and its hospital grade systems infrastructure and technology components. The system
analysis report details the findings of the system analysis in the part of system
vulnerability/risk assessment as a critical component of the security plan.
Why the system vulnerability/risk assessment was carried out as part of system

The security plan for Natividad Medical Center s Hospital Computer Information
System (HCIS) network and its hospital grade systems infrastructure and technology
components must certified be elaborate and fool proof due to the nature and
sensitivity of the information which is contained within the system and its resources
(Bayan,2004).
The rationale for the tools that were used for the security planning and vulnerability
assessment
As noted earlier, the appropriate risk analysis tool for use in this regard is Risk
Watch. This is due to the fact that it focuses on HIPPA, NIACAP and DITSCAP. It
can however be used together with Buddy Systems, a risk analysis tool with a
general focus on information technology. The decision for whichever risk analysis
/assessment tool that was used was based on the particular enterprise and
organizational needs. Different types of organizations have different needs and are
required to follow different laws and

Mama, the protagonist in Alice Walker s short story, Everyday Use is a woman with
a solid foundation and tough roots. The qualities that society would find admirable
within Mama are the same qualities that Dee, Mama s oldest daughter, would spurn,

Homo neanderthalensis we can see the fundamental differences as well as the
advances of our evolution. By starting from the macro level and working toward

Physics Of The Jsx 3222 Analyzer
The JSX 3222 analyzer is an energy dispersive fluorescent X ray spectrometer
developed to analyze cadmium (Cd) included in plastic and the electric wire film
material, etc. promptly. The elements range that can be measured is from sodium
(Na) to uranium (U). Liquid nitrogen cooling for the high performance detector is
needed only during the analyzing time. The vacuum and atmosphere are switched to
the measurement atmosphere by the one button operation. When X rays (primary X
rays) are illuminated from the X raytube to the specimen, fluorescence X rays having
wavelengths (energies) peculiar to the constituent elements of the specimen are
produced from the elements.
There are two methods to investigate the energies. The first method is Qualitative
analysis which can be made by investigating the wavelengths of the fluorescence X
rays and the other method is quantitative analysis by investigating the X ray dose.
One is for optical separation to them and the other is to use the energy separation
characteristic of the X ray detector. The former is called the wavelength dispersive
method an: the latter the energy dispersive method. The element analyzer employs
the latter method. As seen from the figure, since the energy dispersive X ray
spectrometer has no moving parts uses a simple optical system, its structure is simple
and compact. And since the detector can be installed the specimen, the X ray solid
angle of collection can be made large, thus presenting many features such as

Justification We Are Saved From The Guilt Of God
By justification we are saved from the guilt of sin and restored to the favour of
God. But how can one be assured their faith has been justified? Assurance was a
heated debate during the reformation period. It is apparent that Wesley wrestled
with how to verbalize this piece of salvation puzzle as his critics found his ideas to
be contradictory at times. For sake of clarity, only the explicable attributes for
assurance will be brought forth. First and foremost, God is the source of assurance
and not the individual. Secondly, the fruits of the Spirit are testimony or evidence
of justified faith. The Spirit of God does give a believer such a testimony of his
adoption that while it is present to the soul he can no more doubt the reality of his
sonship than he can doubt of the shining of the sun while he stands in the full blaze
of his beams. In other words, a person is assured that their faith has justified them
from being a servant of God to being a child of God because of the witnessed fruits
or signs of the Holy Spiritworking within their heart. A third attribute is that
assurance is self evident. Even though he spoke in absolute tones, Wesley
contemplated assurance for many years as he reconciled the experience of others.
This eventually led him to acknowledge the idea that assurance could vary for certain
people, in extreme circumstance at most. He also conceded from personal experience
that the intensity of assurance can change over time. How, then, does

At this level, each of the SBUs is viewed as its own independent entity, pursuing its

most appropriate when an organization needs a structure which allows for both

The Athletes And Professional Athletes
Ever since the beginning of time, humans as a whole have done whatever it takes
to grow bigger, faster, and stronger. People choose to engage in tedious hours of
exercise and precise dieting to receive the physique of their dreams. Thousands of
years ago, when war was fought using only hand to hand or close range combat,
only the strong would be capable to fight. Throughout the centuries, strong men
have been idled and seen as superior for this reason. Whether they were the ruthless
Spartan warriors in 300 b.c or the mighty Roman gladiators who battled to the
death in the coliseums, there is always two common attractions, strength and
physique. In today s society, most of the strong men are professional athletes. This
range of professional athletes varies from linebackers in the NFL, who need size
to tackle running backs or even baseball players who use their muscles to hit home
runs over 400 feet. In order to become a great athlete, one must challenge
themselves to attain a level of maximum strength. This means weight training with
weights 100% to 200% of one s total body weight roughly two or three times per
week. However, exercise comes second in importance as diet is the most crucial
aspect to gaining size and strength. To become a great athlete means waking up early
in the morning to eat a large breakfast full of protein and complex carbohydrates and
then eat another meal every two to three hours after that. Hydrating one s self by
consuming at least one fourth of total

Google Antitrust Laws Essay
The European Union started to inspect whether Google breached antitrust laws.
They filed charges against Google and opened an examination of Google s
Android system. The European Union sent Google an official grievance. They
could charge Google up to 6.4 billion dollars if they discovered that they are in the
wrong. The EU believes Google is using their power as the leading search engine
to remove competition from other specialized search engines, such as shopping
websites, by ranking its own Google shopping results at the top of the list. In 2010,

is what brought Google to the EU s attention (Finely, 2015). The EU will also be

Socialization Of Masculinity
Masculinity is seen as a cultural constructions throughout history, by which males are
assigned certain social roles of their gender. Traditionally, the image of men is quite
clear. Men have to be hard working person, strong father, and disciplined.
Historically, the role of man was to provide his wife and family with sustenance.
Therefore, masculinityhas certain characteristics assigned by our culture. Men are
associated in an essential and optional way with the confidence certain aspects are
completed when deciding their masculinity and manliness. These aspects range from
not crying when they are harm. They can be aggressive and play violent games. The
socialization of manhood in our general public begins as early as the main phases of
the first stages. The journey of masculinity have been very difficult for many manin
America because society expects things that men can t handle.
An aspect that is expected from men is that they have to be educated and a good

Joan Didion s article Notes From A Native Daughter and Ernesto Galarza s piece
Barrio Boy both talk a lot about how life was like in Sacramento while they were
growing up. In Ernesto Galarza s article, he writes about living in lower Sacramento
and Didion s essay, talks about life in a different area of Sacramento, California.
Ernesto Galarza s Sacramento is filled with a lot of Mexican and other Latin
American people living in a particular area of the city. Barrio Boy s Sacramento
took place in around the 1910s 1920s which was the early 20th century. Joan
Didion s Sacramento was at a later time which was 1940s 1950s and was also a time
when World War II took place. Since these stories both take place in Sacramento,

The police officers, bartenders, and other people working in different occupations
were almost all gringos. As poor refugees, the first concern was to find a place to
sleep, then to eat and find work (Galarza 267). Many of the Latin American
immigrants who were fleeing their home country to go live in Sacramento,
California were poor and did not have a lot of money to make a living. For them to
make a living, they needed to find jobs, and that was one of their goals so they can
have a significant life in Sacramento, California.
In Joan Didion s book titled Slouching Towards Bethlehem, it has a story inside of
the book named Notes From A Native Daughter. This story is mostly about living
in Sacramento, California and notably on what it is like living and being born and
raised in a city like Sacramento, California. Notes From A Native Daughter takes
place in the era of the 1950s which is more current then Ernesto Galarza s article,
Barrio Boy. At one point in this story, Joan Didion mentions that Sacramento Is
California (Didion 172). As Didion refers to Sacramento, California in this way, she
relates to the history of the city of Sacramento, California. For example, Didion says
in her text, But it is characteristic of Californians to speak grandly of the past as if it
had simultaneously begun, tabula rasa, and reached a happy ending on the day the
wagons started west (Didion 172).
The Negative Impact Of Photoshop On Teens

HUMANITIES 130
Hinduism is a diverse body of religion, philosophy, and cultural practice native to
and predominant in India, characterized by a belief in reincarnation and a supreme
being of many forms and natures, by the view that opposing theories are aspects of
one eternal truth, and by a desire for liberation from earthly evils (GodWeb, n.d.). In
this paper I will further explore what the Hindu religion is encompassed of. And delve
into what makes the religion of Hinduism vital to the region it is originated in.
Hinduism differs from Christianity and other monotheistic religions in that it does
not have a single founder, a specific theological system, a single concept of deity, a
single holy text, a single ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Hinduism the soul is immortal while the body is subject to birth and death.
Samsara is considered to be a state of wandering and is caused due to being
ignorant of one s true purpose. This idea is directly linked to karma which means
action, and also the consequences of the action. It is said that every action has a
reaction and it is believed in the religion of Hinduism that it determines your next
incarnation, which is basically being reborn. When the cycle of rebirth comes to an
end, a person is said to have attained liberation which is moksha. In other words
karma is the results you bring upon yourself, good or bad, based on your actions. And
also reincarnation which is the belief that the soul, upon death, comes back to earth
in another body or form which gives the soul the chance to resolve all bad karma
that it puts out so the soul can eventually be free and gain liberation from the cycle
of rebirth. In this paper the religion of Hinduism has been further explored. The
societal and cultural influences that have made it vital to the region where it
originated have also been touched upon. I have gained major insight into the Hindu
religion form this experience. Before this class I never knew that karma and
reincarnation were a part of the Hindu religion. And I never thought I would have

Vandalization Of Graffiti
For several decades, graffiti has been a subject of great contention. Is it art that should
be appreciated? Or is it vandalism that must be condemned? Semantics aside, what
can be definitively agreed upon is that graffiti is an urban phenomenon and that its
many manifestations are unique in their own ways. The urban landscape that is the
canvas for graffiti artists and taggers houses some of society s most problematic
factors, such as socioeconomic disparities, power struggles, political unrest, and a
sense of isolation. For some communities and individuals, these social stratifications
and feelings of detachment have led to their use of graffiti as an outlet to express
their urban realities. To understand the communal usages of graffiti, there must first
be an understanding of which communities are frequently using graffiti and what
factors of citylife are the causation. Often times when people think of graffiti, gang
graffiti is one of the first forms that come to mind. However, in order to analyze
gang graffiti, it should be questioned as to why there are even urban gangs in the first
place. Many gangs reside in impoverished inner citycommunities and as such they
are subject to substandard housing, poor education, high rates of substance abuse,
and violent crime (Marcionis and Parillo 2013:277). In order to cope with their
troubled lives, residents of high poverty urban neighborhoods [will] by necessity
form network links to survive (212) and gangs are one of these network links.
Additionally, Marcionis and Parillo find that in lower economic communities, the
collective sharing of tangibles and non tangibles is an important coping strategy
(212) in managing their disenfranchised lives, and gangs will, at times, provide both
tangible and non tangible resources via money, physical protection, shared values,
and kinship. In gangs, there is also evidence of modern gemeinschafts and
mechanical solidarities, given their provision of kinship, sharing of resources, and
protection for urbanites that feel largely marginalized by those with power (123).
Like the gemeinschafts and mechanical solidarities of old, gangs are close knit
communities with in group out group mentalities and are what Gans

ASD is usually diagnosed in children around three or four years of age. Some
children with autism show signs of developmental issues throughout their infant and
toddler years, while others develop in the expected manner at first, but then slow or

language and difficulty relating to people and events. Symptoms also include unusual
play with toys and other objects and difficulty with changes in routine or
surroundings. In some cases, children exhibit repetitive body movements or behavior
patterns. Unusual responses to sensory information, such as loud noises and lights,
are also common. The condition typically remains with the individual throughout his
or her life. Individuals with ASD tend to show symptoms in two distinct areas. The
first is deficits in communication and social abilities. Autistic children have difficulty
forming social cues, sharing experiences with other people and participating in
normal social interactions. People with ASD may have difficulty reading tone or

Freakonomics Chapter 1 Summary
In chapter one of Freakonomics, Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt describe how
when incentives are strong enough, many usually honest people from different walks
of life will cheat in order to gain financially or climb the ladder in their careers. The
authors define an incentive as a means of urging people to do more of a good thing
or less of a bad thing. This chapter covers three varieties of incentives: Economic,
Social and Moral. Economic incentives motivate people with the promise of money
or goods. Social incentives motivate people to respond in a certain way because
they care about how they will be viewed by others. Moral incentives motivate people

huge in Japan and the ranking is everything to the sumo wrestlers. Highest ranked
wrestlers are treated like royalty while those who don t rank as high must tend to
their superiors and do jobs that are less than desirable. The results of the data in this

more honest than larger ones. Also, someone s mood could affect if they would pay

in whether the employees were being honest. Evidently people are not above

It seems a desire in human nature to want more and more things for the sake of
having them and for treasuring them. No matter the amount or cost some people have
the tendency to obtain as much as they can get, because they can never have enough
stuff. The character of Madame Mithilde Loisel from the short story, The Necklace,
without a doubt has this trait. Monsieur and Madame (M. and Mme.) Loisel are a

During the 16th and 17th century, western colonizers such as the Portuguese, Dutch,
British and French dominated the seas and gained control of the trading activities in
Malacca and other Asian countries. The Southeast Asian region in particular was a
victim of colonialism due to its trade, resources and strategic location. After World
War II, majority of the countries gained their independence. Even though Southeast
Asiagained individual sovereignty, external threats were still present especially
since most of the nations were still weak and recovering. To address the challenges,
a number of regional organizations were established but failed because it was either

The AEC Blueprint is composed of 4 pillars with 17 core elements and 176 priority
actions.
Pillar 1 Single Market and Production Base
The aim of the first pillar is for the creation of a single market and production base
which can be done by minimizing the barriers to trade and investment. Based on
AEC scorecard, it has a score of 65.9% of completed measures or 114 out of 173.
Below is a summary of the 5+2 core elements that the pillar focuses on and a snapshot
of important actual progress:

Automobile Safety Essay
People in developed countries all over the world have come to see automobiles as
the preferred way to travel. They allow independence: point to point transportation
without having to rely on others to get where we want to go, to do what we want to
do. Long range travel and short range travel can be undertaken whenever one desires,
either alone or with other people. Citizens of the modern world must often wonder
how people ever lived without automobiles. To think that human beings once traveled
everywhere by foot or on horseback is not just a humorous idea to reminisce; it is
foreign concept that would not allow the social and business cultureof today to exist.
It is almost as foreign a concept that early automobiles were driven ... Show more

Simple mistakes, that everyone makes, can lead to great harm. Even the most
cautious and agile driver cannot avoid every possible stalled car, unexpected
furniture, careless cell phone user, stray animal, unexpected construction, or drunken
driver on the road.
Automobiles are therefore a huge source of potential injury, and even death. In the
year 2001 alone, 37, 795 people lost their lives in automobile accidents in the
United States. That is more people than the populations of many small cities in
America. In fact, that is over ten times more lives lost than were lost in the horrible
attack on the World Trade Center in 2001! On top of that, over two million people
were injured in automobile accidents in the same time frame.3 Neither of these
numbers includes the thousands of pedestrians who are killed or injured every year
by automobiles.
Given the risks involved in the use of automobiles much consideration should be
given to how to best make automobiles safer for humans. Often times, however, safety
is not the first consideration in automobile design. Some automobile manufacturers
do not even look carefully at safety considerations until a new product is sent down
the crash test line and adjusted until it makes government safety requirements. On the
other hand, some manufacturers start car design with safety as their first priority.

The Causes Of The Easter Rising
The nativist social and cultural revival preached antagonism towards the social and
cultural forms of Great Britain. In this way, the Irish language and literary movement
can be seen to have not only encouraged Irish nationalism and separatism, but also
fed the flames of Anglophobia which can thus be interpreted as a catalyst in inspiring
the imaginations for those who later led the 1916 Easter Rising. The revival of Irish
language and literature had a notable effect on the course of Irish politics leading up
to partition. It ultimately brought forth a keener understanding of Irelands culture,
traditions, history and grievances, and romanticised Irish traditions separate to those
of a greater Britain. Moreover, it enabled Ireland s demand for more freedom to gain
increasing empathy throughout the world. It was public opinion that converted
British politicians to the view that at least some measure of independence to Ireland
should be given.
Much of the Irish nationalistic traditions romanticize the heroism of failed attempts
by outgunned individuals to overcome the powerful British state. While there had
historically been numerous armed rebellions against the British, the development of
formal paramilitary organisations in the years leading to partition was an anomaly,
and one driven by a resort to arms by the unionists. A nationalist secret society, the
Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), was formed in 1858. Known popularly as the
Fenians , this group carried out a
Birth Control In Islam
Birth control has been misunderstood in the Muslim religion as a sort of
advancement which has been created to fulfill western comprehension. A few
Muslims consider it to be an attempt to legitimize family planning in modern
society. Others see it as an idea which is absolutely against Islamic guidelines.
Contraception has remained a consuming issue which needs to be put in to a correct
viewpoint. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the Islamic points of view of
contraception by analyzing accessible records and scholastic conclusions. The paper
discusses the calculated implications of contraception as well as its recorded history
to demonstrate that the idea is not new to Islam. It further studies the advanced ways
to deal with contraception that have been accepted in Islam while also highlighting
strategies of contraception which can not be embraced by Muslims.
In Islam, the essence of marriage, among other things is to allow sexual intercourse
between males and females in order to procreate. While the idea of contraception
and family planning may be commonly interchanged, birth control is seen as a
means of reducing the number of children born in to a family. Whereas family
planning would more likely refer to planning or scheduling births in a manageable
and reasonable way for the family. Nonetheless, in Islam, the two go hand in hand and
are still used interchangeably.
A historical review of contraception in Islam is necessary to truly grasp the
background of the idea

I am a member of the Gen X generation. Gen Xers are generally classified as
independent, preferring to work alone rather than as part of a team to accomplish
our goals. We aren t lured by small talk, and discussions about popular cultural
topics, but desire to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. As a
generation, we tend to be aggressive to influence the expediency of accomplishing
a task, and have no desire to rest until the work is finished. We have a solid work
ethic. I agree with this classification and fit this steroetype. I desire to accomplish a
task, accomplish it correctly, and sense appreciation for a job well done. I don t
place as much importance on getting along with people, though I do desire to be an

Essay on Origins of the Watch making Industry
Origins of the Watch making Industry
The production of watches was a major industry of Great Britain for hundreds of
years. Watch making originated in Europe in the early 16th century, when coiled
springs were first used to power clocks. Clocks were powered by weights originally,
and therefore remained stationary.
The springs meant that clocks could be moved for the first time, and soon, German
clockmakers started to make very small clocks, which are considered as the earliest
watches made. Watch making was the most advanced line of the clock making
industry, which developed when
Blacksmiths started introducing their skills with metal to clock making. Watches
were being made in Great Britain from around the middle of ... Show more content on

Prescot made rough watch movements and it is often mistaken that
Prescot made the actual watches. This means that it was just the actual working parts
of the watch that were roughly finished and assembled, the movements would then
be shipped to finishers all over the country, and overseas, where they would be taken
apart again, finished and put into cases, usually made of precious metals such as gold
and silver.
The nature of the industry
Watch making was an example of what is known as a cottage industry .
Cottage industries were a tradition of Lancashire, and included any type of manual
work where goods were produced at home. The goods produced by a cottage
industry were often on a piecework basis. That is when the goods are made to order
when required. An order would be placed with the producer for a certain number of
items, as and when required. All those involved in the watch making industry could
earn a good wage doing this king of work properly and on time. Each craftsman
would have one specialty in particular, spring making, watch hand making and so
on. The various parts would come from each workshop and then these would be sent
to an assembly workshop, where the rough watch movement would be constructed
from all of the parts. These would then be sent to be finished (that is polished and
made ready to be fitted into a case). Twenty individual branches of watch making
were open during the mid Victorian

The Starling Research Paper What do the Starling, a lovely songbird that fills the air with their joyous tunes, the Asian carp, a symbol of prosperity and longevity in many Asian cultures, and the Norway maple, a smoke and dust resistant tree have in common? They are merciless invaders, massacring native plants, devouring crops, and decimating aquatic flora and fauna. The Starling, first introduced in a flock of 60, now travel in massive hordes up to 1 million strong. These massive groups can consume 20 tons of potatoes, rattling a farmer s income during harvest. The Norway maple displaces native plant species. Finally, perhaps the deadliest, most ruthless invader, the Asian carp, was introduced in the 1900 s to control parasite and weed growth. Today, the out of control fish out compete other fish, and are believed to lower water quality, therefore killing off sensitive organisms such as native mussels. These fish are threatening the Great Lakes, as they are slowly moving north through the Mississippi river. The Asian carp would kill off native fish, wrecking the $7 billion a year fishing industry. These invaders must be stopped.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An invasive species can affect any and all ecosystems. (Cheers from the audience) Cato the Elder: Furthermore, I consider, that Carthage must be destroyed. (Setting dissolves into discussion of war plans) Narrator: Roman consuls, Lucius Marcius and Manius Manilius, discuss options regarding their declaration of war against Carthage. Lucius: Carthage has declared war on Numidia in response to their territorial expansion without our consent. They have broken the treaty that ended the previous war by declaring war against their neighboring state. Manius: Despite their weakness, they remain a threat. And their violation of ... Next time, I will take this into account and consider our plans more carefully. Lucius: I appreciate this, Manius. However, for you there will not be a next time because drastic measures need to be taken which is why I am replacing you with Scipio Aemilianus. Narrator: As a result of the loss, Manius was replaced by Scipio Aemilianus in attempt to strengthen the Roman army. This greatly influences the war, as the Romans are strengthened and have a new perspective on the war against Carthage. (The war continues under the command of Scipio Aemilianus) Lucius (to Scipio): We need to take immediate action if we want to prevail above Carthage. Scipio: We will administer the building of a wall around Carthage, including the harbour. This will prevent Carthage from receiving any more supplies or resources. Lucius: Agreed. This needs to happen at the earliest convenience possible. (Months
  • 4. Film Analysis Of The Movie Ex Machina In this essay I will be taking an in depth look at the movie Ex Machina, and analyzing scenes of the film and look for a deeper meaning and possible foreshadowing of things to follow in the film. In the film Ex Machina, we are led to believe that the main points in the film are AI s and testing whether they can be conscious, have emotions and basically have all the qualities and traits a human portrays. Caleb who is believed to be chosen at random by Nathan to take part in being the person to test the AI, realizes that is all, but random as Nathan had a purpose in choosing Caleb to take part in his tests. A test as to whether the AI in the film, Ava can break the communication barrierwith Caleb her during sessions that Nathan had set up.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Caleb s room that he arrives in shortly after, has no windows and Nathan simply explains that it s a research facility and windows are not needed, and he has a lot of things in his facility that he can t take the chance of them being seen or exposed to someone on the outside. While it may be somewhat accurate according to Nathan and the situation, I think the windowless rooms and the off limit rooms are to give off a sense of seclusion to the audience and also to Caleb in the film, as it helps contribute to his eventual meltdown towards the end of the movie. Another deeper aspect revolves around the relationship formed between Caleb and Ava, as well as how much Nathan knows about their relationship and everything he has to do with them having feelings for each other and his awareness of it. At first, you realize the power outages and you question as to whether Nathan is watching or not, because surely he knows Ava has something to do with it and he s not stupid enough to just let them happen and lose those few moments of knowing what they are talking about. Later, we see that Nathan does indeed know and sets up his own cameras, but the more I thought the more I wondered if he let them happen on purpose to get them to confess certain things to each other in those moments. Nathan being a programmer and a pretty smart guy, surely, he could fix the power outages

He is often regarded as a champion of human rights and considered to be not only associated with the cause of racial discrimination against the African Americans, but also with other social causes relating to injustice, unfairness and discrimination in the American society. He also holds the privilege of being the youngest ever person in the history to have received the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize1. Besides being a well renowned social activist, he was also a Baptist minister and had a degree in Theology and Divinity2. Since he had such an active and stellar political career, his political and social beliefs and his achievements in those areas have received a lot more attention than his religious beliefs and philosophies that he conformed to. In this article an attempt is made to highlight his religious contributions to the American theology. Martin Luther King was born on 15th January in the year 1929 in the rural parts of the state of Georgia2. His family was deeply rooted in the Christian faith and his father and grandfather, both were associated with the Baptist churches during their lifetime. His grandfather was a minister of a church. After his death, Martin Luther King s father became a pastor of that church2 3. His familial background was quite modest and had a great influence on his personality

Analysis Of The Hotel Rebuttal Of The Information In response to the hotels rebuttal of the information I provided Use of prior grievance settlements improper : I would like to point out that the employer is in violation of the very thing they are accusing the union of. If you look at the employer s EXHIBIT 4(A) Mr. Gleason attempts to use a document that supposedly shows a limitation of back pay to 60 days, however, that class action grievance never made it to arbitration, which leads me to believe if we were to look at the actual settlement letter it would state: this agreement is non precedent setting and shall not be used or introduced in any mediation or arbitration as with every other settlement we agree to outside of binding arbitration. The employer also states: The Union s use of the prior settlements in its presentation to the Mediator is that it may adversely affect the Hotel s ability to resolve cases in the future. When James II took the throne in 1685, the public was optimistic, but this quickly changed. The public s view of James II went from optimistic to cynical because of the King s refusal to take action against the French. Instead of taking action, many viewed James II as becoming like the French monarch. In conjunction with a declining support, James II and his wife had produced a male heir in the summer of 1688, insuring that a catholic would inherit the throne. The birth of a Catholic heir was the breaking point for the English. The result was the English sending secret messages to Prince William of Orange, inviting him to invade England. When James II inherited the throne in 1685, the public expected James II to take action against the French monarch King Louis XIV. The English people feared King Louis XIV s would try to create a universal monarch. If Louis XIV had created a universal monarch, all other countries would have lost their independence. For the English, it would have meant the end to the national identity they all valued. Unfortunately for James II, he did not take action against France. Instead, many believed and feared that James II wanted to change the English government to one modeled after the French Government. This fear escalated when James II attempted to suspend the test acts by issuing the Declaration of Indulgence. Although this declaration was supposed to encourage religious tolerance, many English citizens did not view it that way. They viewed it as treat to the established parliament in England. This increased fears because many compared James II declaration to Louis XIV s acts when he invaded the supreme legal authority of France. Because of their fear of being Frenchified, the English invited the Prince of Orange to invade England, starting the revolution. To justify this action, Pincus describes it best. He said, English loyalty was primarily to English law and English customs [national identity] rather than a particular monarch. Since James had violated that law, he ceased to be an English king and was no longer owed obedience. In the end, the Prince of Orange arrived with the support of the majority of the English. As a result, James II abdicated and fled to France. The Nationalist revolution of 1688 1689 had

The elements range that can be measured is from sodium (Na) to uranium (U). Liquid nitrogen cooling for the high performance detector is needed only during the analyzing time. The vacuum and atmosphere are switched to the measurement atmosphere by the one button operation. When X rays (primary X rays) are illuminated from the X raytube to the specimen, fluorescence X rays having wavelengths (energies) peculiar to the constituent elements of the specimen are produced from the elements. There are two methods to investigate the energies. The first method is Qualitative analysis which can be made by investigating the wavelengths of the fluorescence X rays and the other method is quantitative analysis by investigating the X ray dose. One is for optical separation to them and the other is to use the energy separation characteristic of the X ray detector. The former is called the wavelength dispersive method an: the latter the energy dispersive method. The element analyzer employs the latter method. • 21. Justification We Are Saved From The Guilt Of God By justification we are saved from the guilt of sin and restored to the favour of God. But how can one be assured their faith has been justified? Assurance was a heated debate during the reformation period. It is apparent that Wesley wrestled with how to verbalize this piece of salvation puzzle as his critics found his ideas to be contradictory at times. For sake of clarity, only the explicable attributes for assurance will be brought forth. First and foremost, God is the source of assurance and not the individual. Secondly, the fruits of the Spirit are testimony or evidence of justified faith. The Spirit of God does give a believer such a testimony of his adoption that while it is present to the soul he can no more doubt the reality of his sonship than he can doubt of the shining of the sun while he stands in the full blaze of his beams. In other words, a person is assured that their faith has justified them from being a servant of God to being a child of God because of the witnessed fruits or signs of the Holy Spiritworking within their heart. A third attribute is that assurance is self evident. Even though he spoke in absolute tones, Wesley contemplated assurance for many years as he reconciled the experience of others. This eventually led him to acknowledge the idea that assurance could vary for certain people, in extreme circumstance at most. He also conceded from personal experience that the intensity of assurance can change over time. How, then, does

Lastly, the matrix structure is a combination of the functional and multidivisional structures (Rothaermel, 2013). It is most appropriate when an organization needs a structure which allows for both centralized and decentralized decision making, and can be organized by geographic areas and product divisions (Rothaermel, 2013). When the cycle of rebirth comes to an end, a person is said to have attained liberation which is moksha. In other words karma is the results you bring upon yourself, good or bad, based on your actions. And also reincarnation which is the belief that the soul, upon death, comes back to earth in another body or form which gives the soul the chance to resolve all bad karma that it puts out so the soul can eventually be free and gain liberation from the cycle of rebirth. In this paper the religion of Hinduism has been further explored. The societal and cultural influences that have made it vital to the region where it originated have also been touched upon. I have gained major insight into the Hindu religion form this experience. Before this class I never knew that karma and reincarnation were a part of the Hindu religion. And I never thought I would have anything in common with the religion or share any of the same beliefs. I strongly believe in karma
  • 30. Vandalization Of Graffiti For several decades, graffiti has been a subject of great contention. Is it art that should be appreciated? Or is it vandalism that must be condemned? Semantics aside, what can be definitively agreed upon is that graffiti is an urban phenomenon and that its many manifestations are unique in their own ways. The urban landscape that is the canvas for graffiti artists and taggers houses some of society s most problematic factors, such as socioeconomic disparities, power struggles, political unrest, and a sense of isolation. For some communities and individuals, these social stratifications and feelings of detachment have led to their use of graffiti as an outlet to express their urban realities. To understand the communal usages of graffiti, there must first be an understanding of which communities are frequently using graffiti and what factors of citylife are the causation. Often times when people think of graffiti, gang graffiti is one of the first forms that come to mind. However, in order to analyze gang graffiti, it should be questioned as to why there are even urban gangs in the first place. Many gangs reside in impoverished inner citycommunities and as such they are subject to substandard housing, poor education, high rates of substance abuse, and violent crime (Marcionis and Parillo 2013:277). In order to cope with their troubled lives, residents of high poverty urban neighborhoods [will] by necessity form network links to survive (212) and gangs are one of these network links. Additionally, Marcionis and Parillo find that in lower economic communities, the collective sharing of tangibles and non tangibles is an important coping strategy (212) in managing their disenfranchised lives, and gangs will, at times, provide both tangible and non tangible resources via money, physical protection, shared values, and kinship. In gangs, there is also evidence of modern gemeinschafts and mechanical solidarities, given their provision of kinship, sharing of resources, and protection for urbanites that feel largely marginalized by those with power (123). Like the gemeinschafts and mechanical solidarities of old, gangs are close knit communities with in group out group mentalities and are what Gans

Essay Freakonomics chapter 1 summary Freakonomics Chapter 1 Summary In chapter one of Freakonomics, Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt describe how when incentives are strong enough, many usually honest people from different walks of life will cheat in order to gain financially or climb the ladder in their careers. The authors define an incentive as a means of urging people to do more of a good thing or less of a bad thing. This chapter covers three varieties of incentives: Economic, Social and Moral. Economic incentives motivate people with the promise of money or goods. Social incentives motivate people to respond in a certain way because they care about how they will be viewed by others. Moral incentives motivate people on the basis of right and wrong. We look at four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next case study was on Sumo Wrestling matches in Japan. The results of the data in this chapter shows that a wrestler very well might throw a match to help his opponent maintain his current ranking, when throwing the match does not hurt or help his current ranking. There was economic and social incentive for them to cheat. A wrestler would help another out with the promise of being helped out when they needed it. It was proven that the majority of sumo wrestlers do cheat at one point or another. The last study was data collected by an entrepreneur named Paul Feldman who decided to start a bagel business in the Washington D.C. area. He would drop off bagels to different offices and leave a basket for the employees to drop in the money for the bagel, a sort of honor system. He kept track of the payments and started an accidental study on honesty. The data showed that smaller offices are more honest than larger ones. Also, someone s mood could affect if they would pay or not. After reviewing his findings, Feldman believed that morale was a key factor in whether the employees were being honest. Evidently people are not above cheating, even

  • 41. The Causes Of The Easter Rising The nativist social and cultural revival preached antagonism towards the social and cultural forms of Great Britain. In this way, the Irish language and literary movement can be seen to have not only encouraged Irish nationalism and separatism, but also fed the flames of Anglophobia which can thus be interpreted as a catalyst in inspiring the imaginations for those who later led the 1916 Easter Rising. The revival of Irish language and literature had a notable effect on the course of Irish politics leading up to partition. It ultimately brought forth a keener understanding of Irelands culture, traditions, history and grievances, and romanticised Irish traditions separate to those of a greater Britain. Moreover, it enabled Ireland s demand for more freedom to gain increasing empathy throughout the world. It was public opinion that converted British politicians to the view that at least some measure of independence to Ireland should be given. Much of the Irish nationalistic traditions romanticize the heroism of failed attempts by outgunned individuals to overcome the powerful British state. While there had historically been numerous armed rebellions against the British, the development of formal paramilitary organisations in the years leading to partition was an anomaly, and one driven by a resort to arms by the unionists. A nationalist secret society, the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), was formed in 1858. Known popularly as the Fenians , this group carried out a

A few Muslims consider it to be an attempt to legitimize family planning in modern society. Others see it as an idea which is absolutely against Islamic guidelines. Contraception has remained a consuming issue which needs to be put in to a correct viewpoint. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the Islamic points of view of contraception by analyzing accessible records and scholastic conclusions. The paper discusses the calculated implications of contraception as well as its recorded history to demonstrate that the idea is not new to Islam. It further studies the advanced ways to deal with contraception that have been accepted in Islam while also highlighting strategies of contraception which can not be embraced by Muslims. In Islam, the essence of marriage, among other things is to allow sexual intercourse between males and females in order to procreate. While the idea of contraception and family planning may be commonly interchanged, birth control is seen as a means of reducing the number of children born in to a family. Whereas family planning would more likely refer to planning or scheduling births in a manageable and reasonable way for the family. Nonetheless, in Islam, the two go hand in hand and are still used interchangeably. A historical review of contraception in Islam is necessary to truly grasp the background of the idea

Watch making originated in Europe in the early 16th century, when coiled springs were first used to power clocks. Clocks were powered by weights originally, and therefore remained stationary. The springs meant that clocks could be moved for the first time, and soon, German clockmakers started to make very small clocks, which are considered as the earliest watches made. The nature of the industry Watch making was an example of what is known as a cottage industry . Cottage industries were a tradition of Lancashire, and included any type of manual work where goods were produced at home. The goods produced by a cottage industry were often on a piecework basis. That is when the goods are made to order when required. An order would be placed with the producer for a certain number of items, as and when required. All those involved in the watch making industry could earn a good wage doing this king of work properly and on time. Each craftsman would have one specialty in particular, spring making, watch hand making and so on. The various parts would come from each workshop and then these would be sent to an assembly workshop, where the rough watch movement would be constructed from all of the parts. These would then be sent to be finished (that is polished and made ready to be fitted into a case). Twenty individual branches of watch making were open during the mid Victorian
