Lord Of The Flies Symbolism Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of symbolism in "Lord of the Flies" can prove to be a challenging
endeavor. The novel, penned by William Golding, is rich with layers of allegorical meaning,
making the task of unraveling its symbols and their significance a complex intellectual pursuit.
To start with, the narrative itself is a profound exploration of human nature and societal
constructs. Symbolism is intricately woven into the fabric of the story, from the conch shell that
represents order and authority to the beast, which serves as a manifestation of the inherent
darkness within humanity. Analyzing these symbols requires a deep understanding of the novel's
context, themes, and characters.
Moreover, the symbolism in "Lord of the Flies" often operates on multiple levels, demanding a
keen eye for detail and a nuanced interpretation. Unraveling the layers of meaning behind the
symbols necessitates delving into the psychological, sociological, and philosophical dimensions
explored by Golding. This complexity adds a level of difficulty to the essay-writing process, as it
requires not only literary analysis skills but also an ability to connect these symbols to broader
themes and concepts.
Furthermore, conveying these analyses in a coherent and structured manner poses its own set of
challenges. Balancing the exploration of individual symbols with an overarching understanding
of their collective impact on the narrative requires a thoughtful and organized approach to
writing.
In conclusion, constructing a compelling essay on the symbolism in "Lord of the Flies" demands
a combination of literary insight, critical thinking, and the ability to articulate complex ideas.

I m Being Interviewed On My Work On Christmas Island
Essay
My name is Bruce, he said, into the digital recorder that I d placed on the bench
between us. I m being interviewed in relation to my work on Christmas Island, and
my experience with the movement of refugees from the Middle East and parts of
Asia, via Indonesia, into Australia. Illegally. It was a crisp afternoon in October at
Battery Park in New York City. We sat by the water, talking over takeaway
cappuccinos from a nearby Italian cafГ©. Sunday tourists streamed past us,
chatting excitedly in foreign languages that were difficult to catalog. The Staten
Island Ferry floated by at a snail s pace on the smooth surface of the Hudson,
cramped with passengers straining for a glimpse of Lady Liberty and Ellis Island.
Bruce was engrossed in people watching; he snapped pictures, chatted with
strangers, and when several women wearing the hijab sat down nearby ventured to
comment on how surprisingly multicultural Manhattan is. Behind us, adjacent to
the maze of caricature artists, overpriced beer vendors, and hip hop dancers, stood
the Castle Garden: the world s first immigrant depot. There we were, recording an
interview over the steady blare of ferry horns, in a place that millions of migrants
legal and otherwise have passed through. Bruce is a former officer at the Christmas

3,000 detained asylum seekers on a remote tropical island in the Indian Ocean. The

Why are Apple Products so Popular?
In today s world, Apple s products are highly sought after because they are very
popular for everyone. According to YarowпјЊeditor of The Business InsiderпјЊsaid
that the newest iPhone sold 5 million over the opening weekend (Yarow, 2012).
However, it is difficult to find the reason why Apple s products are so superior
compared with other electronic products in the market. Since Apple s products
come out in our life, it has facilitated our life and brought us huge benefits. For
instance, people do not need to bring their heavy laptops to go to work every day,
because they already have the portable tablet PC iPad. The ascent ... Show more

DigiTimes (2010) demonstrates that the first generation of iPad price was $499,
at that time some tablet PC manufacturers predicted iPad s price is about $1000
and these tablet PC manufacturers originally planned their tablet prices 20% 30%
lower than the iPad. The present the iPad price is only $499, which compels the
tablet PC manufacturer to re evaluate the price strategy. If tablet PC manufacturers
want their product appealing to consumers, they could only adjust the price lower
than the iPad. But the final result shows that it is failed, and now iPad is the fourth
generation, but it still people s first choice for PC tablets. If the iPhone and iPad s
price were more expensive, maybe they would not be so popular; I believe Apple
Company is also aware of this
In short, my conclusion is that the cause of Apple s products being popular depends
on its creative design, unique innovation and the reasonable price. If there were no
Apple s products, I believed the development of electronic products would slow
down at least ten years. Because the market has Apple s products, our life is more
convenient than before. The emergence of Apple s products makes electronic product
market have more competition. No matter what, the direct beneficiaries of the price
war is the consumer. The constantly price war will make commodity prices
approached the cost. Consumers can buy more high quality
Star Wars Social Culture
The cultural features of Star Wars series and its impact on social culture
I.Introduction
A.Research background
Star Wars series is an indispensable part in contemporary American culture. From
1977 until now, the whole series has been an incredible legend and a worldwide
cultural phenomenon. Great changes has it made in various aspects. In 2005, Wired
writer Michelle Devereaux created an infographic that explicitly explained the impact
of Star Wars, mainly in the film industry. How Star Wars change the world created by

Many famous film director, like Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard, were inspired
by Star Wars and a few celebrities, like David Fincher (the director of Se7en) and
John Knoll (the creator of Adobe Photoshop) have participated in the production of
Star Wars films.
Besides, things related to Star Wars series can be easily detected in language, politics,
pop culture, music and so on, influencing millions of thousands of people all over the
world.
B.Significance of research
This research is aimed to analyze the cultural features of Star Wars series and its
impact on social culture. Through this lens, I hope to offer a better understanding

Taking a Look at Professional Procrastination
By definition, the act of procrastinating is to postpone an event until a later time. We
as humans have all delayed something in our lives, either related to school, work, or
social activities. Although anything in life has the potential to be postponed or put
off until the last minute, procrastination is more commonly seen in schools and
colleges among students. There are several reasons why students put off assignments,
but, the main reason is that they do not take pleasure in doing their homework. Even
though some students are unsuccessful in their dawdling, many students are often
successful and benefit from saving coursework until the last minute . Taking a look at
this process, we can see that procrastinating may actually save time and energy.
The first step in the procrastination process is to make a conscious decision to
postpone a project until a later date. Upon receiving a homework assignment,
students will often look over what they will be asked to do. If they are discontented
by what they are presented with, thoughts such as I do not want to do this or I will
do this later will spring up in their brain. After a student has either of the previous
thoughts, they then put the assignment in their folder or binder and do not touch it
until later. Frequently a student has no motivation to begin an essay, for example,
right after receiving the prompt because there is no pressure to complete it in a short
time. Since there is no drive to work on the essay, the

The Theory Of Psychology And Psychology
Psychology first started in 1879 by Wilhelm Wundt who founded the first laboratory
which specialized in psychology at the University of Leipzig in Germany. Wundt used
controlled experiments to investigate the mind by using a method called introspection
which examined an individual s mental state to gain an understanding of how our
mindworks. This approach became known as Structuralism, deals with the study of
the conscious mind, with the idea that the conscious mind can be broken down into
basic elements that combined to form to the structure of the human mind.
The second approach to psychology came in 1890, Functionalism.
Functionalism was influenced by Darwin s views on natural selection and wanted to

Freud suggested to have a healthy personality there had to be a balance between
this three parts. Freud also suggested that childhood experiences affect our
behaviour as adults. He believed we go through a series of stages called the
psychosexual stages of development and if trauma or excessive pleasure occurs it
will be reflected in our personality as adults. Freud created dream analysis a form of
therapy, as he argued if a person experiences a traumatic event they can use defence
mechanisms such as repression the move the memory into the unconscious mind,
which can lead to mental illness. Dream analysis is a form of therapy that allows
the unconscious mind to be accessible in order to deal with repressed memories and
explain the patient s mental illness. One strength of the psychodynamic approach is
its practical application of dream analysis. Research by Sandell has shown that
dream analysis can be successful in reducing a variety of mental illnesses. However a
weakness of the psychodynamic approach is that it is reductionist, it over simplifies
the explanation of human behaviour and ignores other factors that may cause
behaviours.
A key moment that developed after the psychodynamic approach was Behaviourism.
The behaviourist approach argue that behaviour is learned through our interactions
with the environment. Our behaviour is changed and altered by the consequences of
our actions. There are two types of conditioning that have been
The Heave-Ho Method Of Building Pyramids
Evidence from ancient Egypt shows that these guys knew a thing or two about
building pyramids. They show how built several pyramids under different pharaohs
and techniques but today they re still standing. While many have said the pyramids
have been the work of aliens, many egyptologists disagree. From years of research, a
solid explanation has crom from Davidovits and Morris, who believe that the ancient
Egyptianscast their pyramidblock and did not quarry them.
For years, the heave ho method of building the pyramids has been the most logical.
This involved ramps being used to move the pyramid blocks and other materials to
the right level. While remains of ramps have been found, they were small and most
likely used for climbing opposed to raising stone blocks. in addition, to sustain the
1400 block per day on the Great Pyramid, they would have needed 52,000 workers
with 140 workers on each stone making four trips per day on a ramp, which seems
highly unlikely. Aside from all of this, there are also no murals of Egyptian workers
using ramps on the Great Pyramid. There is one showing a statue being dragged, but
it s dated to 800 years after the Great Pyramid was built. ... Show more content on

Other building techniques at the time were quarrying and casting. Quarrying
involved excavating the stone blocks from the ground and dressing them using
stone and copper tools. However, copper tools were far too soft and therefore
unsuitable to dress blocks on the scale needed for the Great Pyramid. If we look at
later building equipment there were wooden rollers but the earliest use of them have
been dated to 1600 BCE, almost a millennium after the Great Pyramid. Through
process of elimination, the only method left is to cast the pyramid blocks directly into
Significance And Social Of Infants
The main idea in this study was that people are more likely to create relationships
with those that are similar to them. This study focused on whether this was true for
infants. It s said that similarity is an important aspect of human interaction and
influences social cognitive processes. When a person befriends someone who is
similar to them, they tend to find them trustworthy, fair, and intelligent, as opposed to
someone who is dissimilar to them. This study researched the significance and social
consequences in early preferences of similarity. It s suggested that infants social
evaluations are based on two criteria s: whether the act done by the individual was
helpful or harmful, and the infants personal feelings towards the target of that act. In
the first experiment, there were thirty six 9 month olds and sixteen 14 month olds. In
the first phase the infants were to choose their preferencein food, being given a choice
between graham crackers and green beans. Then in phase two, a puppet show was
conducted for the infants in whom two rabbit puppets identified their food
preference. The similar puppet always chose the same food preference as the infant
and the dissimilar always chose the other food preference. During phase three, the
same two puppets from phase two were used in addition to two dog puppets. This
puppet show would star either the similar or dissimilar rabbit puppet that would
throw a ball and drop it, then the helpful dog puppet would either bring it
The Beginning Causes of the Russian Revolution of 1917
Essay
The Russian Revolution of 1917 is a collective term for two so called revolutions one
in February and one in October that occurred in Russia in 1917, which dismantled the
Tsarist autocratic regime and led to the creation of the Soviet Union and, ultimately,
several decades of communist dominance. While the world revolution is often used to
encompass events in both February and October in 1917, only the first actually merits
the name. The February Revolution was a mass spontaneous event that overthrew the
autocracy of Tsar Nicholas, while the events that occurred in October that led to the
overthrow of the government set up in the aftermath of the February Revolution,
were tightly controlled and executed in the style of a coup d Г©tat.... Show more

The Russian Revolution began with the February Revolution (that actually occurred
in March), which was one of the most spontaneous, unorganized mass revolts in
history. In the cities, food shortages mounted and the morale of people fell. Riots
broke out in Petrograd as people demanded more bread, eventually spreading to
different industries and throughout the city. Orders to fire on demonstrators were
given, inflicting a number of casualties. Meanwhile the fate of the regime was, in
effect, sealed when the troops mutinied and refused to obey orders and take up arms,
marching in the streets with other demonstrators. Tsar Nicholas tried to sustain the
monarchy by abdicating in favor of his brother Michael, but he refused the crown,
thus ending the centuries old Romanov dynasty, and leading to the establishment of a
dual power between the Provisional Government and the Petrograd Soviet.
The Provisional Government, headed at first by Prince Georgy Lvov and later by
Alexander Kerensky, established various rights, including freedom of speech,
religion, equality, and the right to strike. However, they had to compete with the
Petrograd Soviet, who kept a close eye on them, issued decrees of their own, and
were considered in many ways more powerful because of their increasing control of
the army, factories, and railways. With two
The American Dream Equality
of boundless opportunities and liberty. As stated earlier, there is no universally
accepted definition of this phenomenon. The American Dream is an ironic term and
quite satirical in nature as it is everything but a dream although it has always been a
staple of American culture. As America evolved so did the perception that America
was different from other nations. America has been depicted as a landed of unlimited
opportunities where anything could be achieved. It is quite an interesting
phenomenon based on mobility in social class hierarchies. When James Truslow
Adamscreated the term the American dreamit was based more on idealism than it
was on material wealth (Samuel, 2012) He wrote in The American Epic that the
American Dream was that dream of land in which life should be better and richer and
fuller for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is evident however, that has become all about material prosperity and the theme
of equality in Truslow s statement is overlooked. American society has been
infected by greed, inequality and all sorts of discrimination that limit one s ability
to succeed. The road to the American dream is dependent on external factors rather
than internal factors the influence an individual s success. The American Dream
was created to appeal all in America and future residents as America was depicted as
the land of prosperity. This is quite ironic as Thompson chose Las Vegas titled the
city of sin to illustrate his experiences and the American Dream is somewhat like a
Utopian land.
Thompson also makes many references to Horatio Alger Jr. His reference to Alger
Jr. is important to contextualize the American Dream. Alger is renowned for his rags
to riches stories. He was responsible for the myth of the American Dream as his
readers ignored the quality of his

Imagery In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
Truman Capote describes a town that I can easily picture, because he uses a lot
detail and imagery in his opening of In Cold Blood that allows me to envision a
small town very similar to the town I live in. Although our town isn t that well
known it still receives some attention and our school system wouldn t be described
as Capote describes Holcomb s school. His structure and tone builds the town as
boring, empty, and alone. Until the end when he describes their school. A complete
juxtaposition to the rest of the town. Holcomb can be easily pictured as the boring,
rundown town because of Capote s use of imagery, structure, and tone. Simply an
aimless congregation of buildings divided in the center by the main line tracks of the

Giselle Gender Roles
Ballet is not only a well known art form with a language that is nearly universal,
but also involves a combination of several elements, including dancers, music, and
scenery; commonly performed in pointe shoes, the movements are very fluid and
graceful. The very first era of ballet is referred to as the romantic period, during
which famous ballets with lengthy, complicated story plots such as Giselle took
place. A young woman named Giselle falls in love with a male character named
Albrecht and marries him; only to die of a broken heart when a third character
comes in. His name is Hilarion, and he is also in love with Giselle; he reveals that
apparently Albrecht has deceived her. After an extreme reaction, Giselle is seen as
a virgin spirit dancing with a group of other undead young women who died of a

In Butler article it states, the relation between the culture and nature presupposed
by some models of gender construction implies a culture and agency of the social
which acts upon a nature, which itself presupposed as a passive surface, outside
the social and yet its necessary counterpart. The setting of Giselle shows us that
she isn t the most fortunate but she is happy. On the other hand, you have Albrecht
who is a nobleman that chose to deny his culture and act as peasant to get close to
Giselle. His instinct placed a constructed view on his gender as a male that in turn
gave his character a social meaning some depth. Giselle s spirit after she died could
have helped the other virgin spirits and allow Albrecht to die. But her characters
cultural ideas and her view on life saved his life. Giselle felt that love conquered all

Marketing Plan For A New Factory
Cornology
Our company was founded in 1992 in Bangkok, Thailand. With much effort and
innovation we revolutionized the popcorn market in the country; eating popcorn in
the cinema became a trend. Our latest big success happened in October 2014, when
we launched the Love Combo . This combo is a mix of sweet flavors that also
eliminates bad breath.
Now that we have established a renowned and stable brand in our home country, it is
highly recommended that we enter another market, in order to internationalize the
company and become an Asian leader in the popcorn market. Our main goal will be
recognized as a market leader in China, we want to supply the demand in the country
and promote our product to as many regions as possible within our trading inter
governmental deals.
To achieve our new goal we will need to open a new factory in Thailand, as our
research tells us, we have now four possibilities in four different regions, Mae Hong
Sorn, Nong Khai, Bangkok and Yala. Each of these regions will also primarily serve
a specific Chinese region according to trading deals, expansion will be possible once
we supply 90% of the market we first target we are currently in.
Factory Building Options
Mae Hong Sorn is the second lowest place to buy the land where the factory will
be built, the construction cost would be $ 10,998,001. It is recognized as a stable
area when it comes to politics, so the possibilities of getting the required permits on
time are 62%. If there is a delay our
Pardoners in the Middle Ages Essay
Though told by a self confessed liar and hypocrite, the tale has a powerful moral and
imaginative effect. How far do you agree with this view of the text?
Chaucer s pardoner is an enigmatic, paradoxical figure, both intriguing yet repulsive.
From the very beginning of his Prologue the
Pardoner makes no attempts to hide his ypocrise, instead taking a perverse pleasure
in the extent of his corruption. As seen in the portrait of the Monk in The General
Prologue, Chaucer allows the
Pardoner to condemn himself. He purposely reveals his methods of extracting

Of course, we have to bear in mind that while the pilgrims hear the
Pardoner s rhetorical skills we hear Chaucer s skill as a poet. In his digression the
Pardoner melodramatically denounces a number of sins, making extensive use of
rhetorical devices such as hyperbole, anaphora and apostrophe:
O glotonye, ful of cursednesse!
O cause first of oure confusioun!
O original of oure dampnacioun.
He seems to use these to involve and unnerve his audience and effectively keep all
eyes on him. He alludes to both the Bible and classical mythology, citing Biblical
prophets, historical figures and philosophers. In contrast the tale itself is relatively
plainly told and we can safely assume that the Pardoner is well practiced in the art
of telling this specific tale and even inserts some of his sermon into it. His sermon is
based on several medieval conventions, such as that of the mysterious old man, whom
Dr. McIntyre identifies as a
representation of the immanence and inescapability of death, something which would
have struck a chord with a medieval audience suffering from the onslaught of the
Black Death.
The tale is an example of a very well defined genre with its own conventions and
devices; nevertheless the pardoner makes it his own through his own use of rhetorical
flourishes and poetic detail. He

The Prevalence Of The Anti-Hero Archetype In Modern
Society
The Prevalence of the Anti Hero Archetype in Modern Society The hero archetype
has prevailed throughout literature and media for thousands of years. This quixotic
character completes a quest or expedition with little to no faults. In recent times, the
ideal hero archetype is challenged by the untoward anti hero archetype. Today, the
anti hero is largely represented and featured in recent film and society. The hero
archetype is losing prevalence in modern fiction stories due to the increasing
demand of the anti hero. The original hero archetype greatly contrasts the modern
anti hero archetype. A hero is someone who displays little to no flaws and is widely
liked by the majority. This character presents its storyline with exceptional traits. The
anti hero archetype is completely opposite of the hero archetype. Unlike the
traditional hero who is morally upright and steadfast, the anti hero usually has a
flawed moral character (Michael). Modern anti heroes lack in grace, power, and
social success (Neimneh). They deal with issues and insecurities such as alcoholism
and infidelity (Michael). Anti heroes make unpleasant moral compromises, in
contrast to the desired, in order to reach something. They want to create order where
it is impossible and put the protagonistto justice . Traditional hero characters often
succeed when trying to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm
success rate of anti hero victory. Anti heroes also do not let their inner thoughts
influence their actions while original or traditional heroes seek self definition
(Teleky). Traditional hero characters often succeed when trying to complete their
quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm success rate of anti hero victory. The
faultless ways of the hero archetype sets it apart from people in society, making it
extremely unrelatable to the mass amount of humans today, allowing the anti hero
archetype to prevail through. The changes thorough media have led to the decline of
the traditional hero archetype. To relate to society throughout the twentieth and
twenty first centuries, television shows and film have had to conform to new
standards. In the beginning, any film was

drugs, drug abuse, and drug dependence in humans, by testing it on monkeys. They
wanted to observe whether a monkey would become addicted to drugs or not, and to
understand better the effects of drugs.
Method:
First a method was developed, to teach the monkeys how to self administer the drugs
through intravenous catheters. Then the psychologist injected the monkeys for the
first time the drugs. Because they were several monkeys each one received a different
drug, some received cocaine, morphine, amphetamines, ... Show more content on

The researchers founded the reason why drug abuse takes place and how can a
psychological treatment will help people give up the drug addiction.
Discussion:
The experiment was very controversial because it was very unethical and the
monkeys suffered a lot of pain, and in some cases died of overdose.
The Helsinki declaration was founded in 1964 and since here they have been
updating principles of good practice in this kinds of experiments. They say, Welfare
of animals used for research must be respected . Since here the ethical views for non
humans subjects started. Later on the APA gave instructions to determine whether an
experiments on animals is acceptable or not. For example animal research should
not harm the animal or distress it on any way. If the researchers don t follow this
code, they wont be allowed to keep on with the experiment.
In the case of this experiment was already done, but that s why still now a days is
very controversial and shocking, and is listed in one of the 10 most unethical
psychological experiments.
Personal opinion:
This experiment in my opinion was useful to psychology. But I don t agree with the
methods that were applied. The researchers taught some behaviours to the monkeys
that unless humans never show them how to do they will never do it by themselves,

Traffic Management N Mumbai
INTRODUCTION
Traffic Management is a very serious issue today. Traffic in Mumbai especially is
seen as a major drawback for the city. Everyone belonging to this city of dreams
has at some point in their life faced a traffic snarl which has made them wish they
lived anywhere else. The core reason for traffic is the buildup of several problems
being neglected over the years. This includes, over population, bad infrastructure,
lack of education, uncontrolled reckless driving etc. I personally feel that using a
car for a single person is a luxury if the same car is used for 5 persons travelling, it
makes sense. We have n number of people coming to the same area in their own cars
without any accomplices. So, it makes sense to club the people ... Show more content

Now lets us look into Australia strategic environment before discussing in depth by

The Impact of Globalisation
The world is undeniably experiencing profound and rapid change. While the
international world system is dynamic, globalization is accelerating the movement of
ideas and technologies and advertently exposing Australia to a new strategic
environment framework such as increased the interdependency between countries
and made borders more porous, increased of the potency of the terrorist threat,
increase the complexity of the potential danger of WMD proliferation[3].
Globalisation has accelerated the trends which have a significant impact on security
policy matters, defense capability and decision making due to increased
unpredictability and uncertainty; the technology revolution has led to a diffusion of
technology at a faster tempo, particularly in the areas of information and
communications; existing of asymmetric threats such as terrorism or WMD have
reduced the value of defenses built around geographic advantage; non state players
quite often in some circumstances, constitute a strategic threat such as new form of
transnational terrorist organisations, with no state allegiance and new types of
weapons and tactics ; and borders as security barriers are now

The Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong Analysis
Mary Anne slipped through the Jungle weaving in and out of the thick vegetation,
her fellow Green Berets appearing as a shadow behind her. She was dressed in a
pink sweater which was a stark contrast to her machine gun and her character. Her
movements were just as graceful as before but no longer for the simple purpose of
appearing feminine. Her elegance was displayed in the way she moved, deliberately
and silently, her whole body poised to strike down the enemy at the soonest
opportunity. Mary Anne occasionally thought back to when she first arrived in

Mary Anne talks about the war in a positive light saying that when she is fighting
is the only time she knows who she truly is. However, the author compares Mary
Anne s relationship to war as being similar to a drug addiction. She has lost
perspective on who she really is and only those around her can see her true self. In
my story Mary Anne is described as having a longing for the fight which turns into
an overwhelming urge to risk what is left of her life . This parallels the Song of
the Tra Bong in its description of the drug like effect of war on Mary Anne. She
consistently uses the phrase It s not bad to describe her transformation. It is like she
is trying to convince herself that who she has become is okay and that there is no
problem with what she is doing. This is not that different from the way a drug addict
might try to find a justification for their behavior or at least understate its

Is Private Property A Natural Right Essay
Is private property a natural right? Yes I consider private property a natural right.
Private plays a big role within natural rights. Many philosophers including Locke,
Marx and Rawls each had their position on private property. This leads to the
question: what is private property? You can t just give one definition because as I
said before, many philosophers has different positions about private propertyon
natural rights. If I had to define private property, I would say it is any property that is
not public property, and maybe under the control of a group or a single individual. It
is like a claim to something that excludes others from having that same privilege. The
one philosopher I will talk about is John Locke. John Locke s position on private
property being a natural right is really different from... Show more content on

Locke makes the argument that when god created the world for man, he gave man a
reason to make use of the world to the best advantage of life and convenience. What
he means by that is, that god made this world for man, and he made it he gave man
the right to use that what is in this world to his benefit. Locke explains that every
man has property in his own person, and that nobody has any right to that property
but that person. The author states that whatsoever then he removes out of the state of
nature hath provided, and left it in, he hath mixed his labor with, and joined to it
something that is his own, and thereby makes it his property (Locke). What Locke
means by that statement is that once a person remove something out of its original
state of nature that something becomes that person s property. After someone gains
this property are there any limitations on that property? Locke believes that that there
are limitations on that property. Locke believes that god has given us all things
richly, and that man may use those things as long as he takes what he needs.

A Comparison of Susan Hill s The Woman in Black and M.R. James Oh, Whistle,
and I ll Come to You, My Lad
In Susan Hill s introduction to The Woman In Black she mentions M.R. James
short stories as some of the greatest ghost stories ever written. Her appreciation of
James writing is one of the reasons for the many similarities and differences
between the two texts. Hill was greatly inspired by the setting of Oh, Whistle, and I
ll Come to You, My Lad and this results in her novel being a similar reading
experience to James story. One of the most obvious influences on Susan Hill s novel
is the similarity between the title of M.R. James story and one of the chapters in The
Woman In Black , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both writers use the setting effectively to set down the mood of the story.
The main characters in the stories are also very similar, both Parkins ( Oh, Whistle,
and I ll Come to You, My Lad ) and Arthur (The Woman In Black) are young, curious
and non believers of anything to do with the supernatural. Parkins in particular makes
his views very clear:
My own views on such subjects are very strong. I am, in fact, a convinced disbeliever
in what is called the supernatural
It is obvious from this that Parkins feels strongly on the matter of the supernatural,
as does Arthur. The similarities do not end there; they both harbour a desire to
explore and in Oh, Whistle, and I ll Come to You, My Lad it is this desire to explore
which leads to the main element of the story, the unearthing of the whistle and visit of
the ghost. In the novel, Arthur s tendencies to explore lead to him discovering the
graveyard and the ghost. Also both writers use events in the story to shape the
personality of the characters, for example, Parkins begins Oh, Whistle, and I ll
Come to You, My Lad as a strict disbeliever of folk lore and ghosts but ends the story
being forced to believe them after experiencing them himself. Also both characters are
haunted by their experiences, Arthur specifically cannot escape the memories of the
ghost and the
Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis Essay
EGE typically presents with a combination of chronic nonspecific GI symptoms
which include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, and
abdominal distension and sometimes, more seriously, intestinal obstruction and
perforation. Approximately 80% have symptoms for several years[31] unlike in our
case where the patient only had symptoms for about three weeks. Children and
adolescents can present with growth retardation, failure to thrive, delayed puberty or
amenorrhea. Adults have abdominal pain, diarrhea or dysphagia[32]. The clinical
features of EGE are protean and are related to the organs, tissue layers affected, and
the intensity of eosinophilic inflammation[33]. Eosinophilic gastroenteritis can
occasionally involve the hepatobiliary tree, the best described organ being the
pancreas which is relevant to our case, too. Eosinophilic gastroenteritis can also
present with a variety of unusual manifestations such as gastric ulcer. This type of
eosinophilic ulcer does not respond well to proton pump inhibitors (PPI) but does
respond to either topical or systemic corticosteroids. The mainstay of treatment of
eosinophilic gastroenteritis is corticosteroids. Newly diagnosed patients... Show more

Karl Marx, Commodity Fetishism, An Objective, Valuable
For...
To begin with I can t but mention that without assessing(considering, evaluating)
Commodity Fetishism both from the points of view of the philosophers of the past
and economists and businessmen of the present it s not an easy task to investigate the
subject.
According to Karl Marx Commodity Fetishism is the perception of the social
relationships involved in production as economic relationships among the money and
commodities exchanged in market trade .
In simple words it s the cult of the things selected and providing them with super
valuation. Commodity Fetishism transforms abstract, subjective aspects of economic
value into real, objective, valuable for people things.
Let me say a few words about the human nature. Each of us is material. We are sure
we need more than we really need to survive. That s probably, the main reason why
socialism was unable to compete with capitalism, especially former Soviet republics
closed for bright, new, modern or brand new trade marks. Big and small stuff
becomes an integral part and an accompaniment(a supplement) to a personality.
Speaking about the effects of Commodity Fetishism I should emphasize that they are
not confined to the sphere of production but permeate every sphere of social life.
Social relationships become the property of things and the form of false
consciousness concealing real conditions.
The global effect of commodity fetishism is that we have become the society of
consumers. We have reached the freedom for but not
Analysis Of I Carry My Heart
A young man is currently in the thicket of love with his significant other. At the
drop of a pin the man would get her anything she could desire, regardless if it is a
need or a want. Some would question why, but it is because it is he who has fallen
head over heels for her. For she is the love his life, his one in a million, the
irreplaceable. She is the one who keeps his heart in a steady rhythmic beat, who
brightens his day like the early morning sun. This is relatable for millions of
people in the world today, it is so well known that it could be considered a universal
theme. E. E. Cummings explains a very similar meaning in the poem [i carry your
heart(i carry it in my heart)] . The theme of the poem is that the unity of loveis
dangerously powerful when it is between two in love. Cummings makes this happen
through using metaphors, personification, and repetition.
Cummings uses metaphors throughout the poem to show how much care he has
for her. E. E. Cummings starts the first line of his poem with a metaphor saying i
carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart) . He uses this metaphor to show that
even if he and his lover are far apart, she will always be on his mind, in his heart, and
close to him. E. E. Cummings uses another metaphor almost immediately after in line
6 saying, for beautiful you are my world,my true . In the use of this metaphor he is
emphasizing that she is that someone you hope to never lose, because you would be
nothing without them. The final
Electric Cars
The Advantages and Disadvantages of Electric Cars
Introduction to Electric Cars
An electric car is a vehicle which is driven by electric engines. The engines use
electrical energy which is usually stored in batteries. Electric car is a variation of
electric vehicle (EV). EV speaks of any vehicles which are propelled by electric
engines. Electric car is a general term for high speed vehicles which are powered by
electricity. In the United States, low speed vehicles which are powered by electricity
are known as neighbourhood electric vehicles (NEVs), and as electric motorised
quadricycles in Europe.

Battery packs are bulky and heavy. They take up a significant amount of the vehicle
space. Given the heavy weight, they battery packs can reduce the distance of how
far the car can travel. Another disadvantage is the silence of electric cars. Yes, it can
be soothing for some people, but it can also be dangerous for others. People usually
listen to the sound of the revving engines when cars are coming up behind or beside
them. When it is silent, they might not notice the cars and they can end up in an
accident.

Essay on A Near Death Experience as a Religious Experience
A Near Death Experience as a Religious Experience
A near death experience can be defined as an event which occurs to people when
seemingly the bodily functions which confirm life have stopped, (i.e. clinically
dead). It often has an out of body element and may be interrupted in a religious or
non religious way. Most individuals who claim to have had a near death experience
say that there is a sense of indescribable bliss, ecstasy and peace. Similarly, a
religious experience is usually described as a non empirical occurrence, and may be
perceived as supernatural. It is a mental event which is undergone by an individual
and of which that person is aware. Recipients of a religious experience usually ...

What Does Gregory Maguire s Wicked Mean
The book Wicked written by Gregory Maguire is much like the classic story The
Wizard of Oz. Instead of seeing the story through Dorothy s perspective, it is seen
through Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West s eyes. When reading a narrative, it is
important to understand many of the symbols to get a better understanding of the
characters and theme. Wickedfollows Elphaba s life while she undergoes prejudices
of others along with dilemmas with being different. As Maguire builds the
storyline he utilizes symbols to convey a more in depth perspective of the novel.
To begin, the first symbol that could represent Elphaba and her fear is water. Water is
used in the book because in its own way is perfect. Elphaba is very guarded to it

adulthood, McCarthy completed eight grades of schooling and started farm work,
only to return to high school in Manawa in 1929. McCarthy completed high school

During his time in the Marines, McCarthy challenged, and is defeated by,
Alexander Wiley for the Republican primary for US Senate. Once McCarthy
resigned from the Marines in 1945, he returned to Appleton to repossess his seat as
judge. Within the next year, he begins his political stance by running against the
low campaigning Senator Robert La Follette Jr. with the strategy of heavy
campaigning and attacking La Follette. McCarthy defeats La Follette and goes on,
in November of 1946, to defeat the Democratic candidate Howard J. McMurray in
the general election. During the start of his political career, anti communism was
only a minor issue for McCarthy. During McCarthy s first few years as senator, anti
communism started to take a larger stance in United States politics, as well as the
United States as a whole ( Wisconsin Historical Images ). McCarthy started the age
of McCarthyism on February 9, 1950 when he announced his first list. McCarthy
stated, I have in my hand a list of 205, a list of names that were made known to the
Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who, nevertheless,
are still working and shaping policy in the State Department. Within the following
weeks, McCarthy claimed that there were different numbers of communists within
the United States that he had listed, including 57, as he told reporters, and later 81, as
he told the Senate. McCarthy s
Branding and Marketing Strategy for a Proposed Business...
As the product manager for Spirou Biodegradable Garbage Bags, my team and I will
start formulating the branding strategy by first performing a brand assessment. This
will involve a lot of research on current and prospective consumers, transaction trends
related to the trash bag market and service quality. We need to determine the business
environment including competition, suppliers and economic forecasts. The
assessment is needed to determine what the value our product has for our customers,
our competition, and the consumer perception of the competition and our company.
We can see the value of our bags in comparison to the current drawstring plastic bags
on the market. The technologically advanced bags we offer are our key selling point,
our value, our distinction. Second I will need to determine our brandpromise. The
brand promise should achievable and one that connects our strategy, our people, our
positioning, and our customers. We have determined our differentiating factor; the
bags disintegrate into dust together with the garbage inside them. Using this factor,
we can develop the promise we will deliver to our intended consumers: no more full
bags ripping or hauling bags to the trash barrels, an easy way to make the
environment cleaner, no more overflowing landfills. And the company MUST deliver
on the brand promise.
Third we develop the brand blueprint. The brand blueprint will aid us in
communicating our promise and creates our communication building
Change in Roman Fever by Edith Wharton Essay
Change in Roman Fever by Edith Wharton
Chance (or coincidence) has an ambiguous role in the outcome of different situations;
it can work in or against one s favour. As in real life, chance in literature has
considerable influence on the circumstances of the characters and where those
circumstances lead.
In two particular literary works, Roman Fever and A Small, Good Thing, chance
happenings have grave results on the lives of the characters concerned. In Roman
Fever, old friends meet by chance and reveal disturbing secrets about the past; while
in A Small, Good Thing a boy is injured on his birthday placing his parents in a
desperate situation. Although chance generally seems to go unnoticed a spontaneous

The two old friends had not seen each other in years, but met again in a hotel in Rome
where they were both vacationing with their respective daughters. Naturally, it seems,
the two daughters develop a friendship. Such occurrences would otherwise be
unfathomable if it was not for the precise meaning of chance; the unpredictable
element in happenings that cannot be assigned a cause
(Hougton Mifflin, 2000). Chance provides an understanding, not an explanation, and,
hence, an acceptance of such occurrences. The chance meeting of these two old
friends sets the stage for the revelation of secrets that were also influenced by the
unexpected.
Knowing that Grace had romantic interest in her then fiancГ©, Mr.
Delphin Slade, Alida writes a letter posing as Delphin inviting Grace to meet him
after dark in the Coloseum. Alida had simply intended for her dear friend Grace to
catch the roman fever and disappear for a few weeks until [she] was sure of
[Delphin], (Wharton, 91). However, it was also revealed that the unexpected
happened and Grace replied to the letter saying she would be there. Thus, Delphin
arranged for the meeting to take place. Whether irony or bad luck, Mrs. Slade had
blindly provided her fiancГ© with the opportunity to have an affair, one he
gratefully accepted. If Grace had not replied to the letter, if, in fact, Alida had
considered the possibility of her

Lord Of The Flies Symbolism Essay

  • 1. Lord Of The Flies Symbolism Essay Crafting an essay on the theme of symbolism in "Lord of the Flies" can prove to be a challenging endeavor. The novel, penned by William Golding, is rich with layers of allegorical meaning, making the task of unraveling its symbols and their significance a complex intellectual pursuit. To start with, the narrative itself is a profound exploration of human nature and societal constructs. Symbolism is intricately woven into the fabric of the story, from the conch shell that represents order and authority to the beast, which serves as a manifestation of the inherent darkness within humanity. Analyzing these symbols requires a deep understanding of the novel's context, themes, and characters. Moreover, the symbolism in "Lord of the Flies" often operates on multiple levels, demanding a keen eye for detail and a nuanced interpretation. Unraveling the layers of meaning behind the symbols necessitates delving into the psychological, sociological, and philosophical dimensions explored by Golding. This complexity adds a level of difficulty to the essay-writing process, as it requires not only literary analysis skills but also an ability to connect these symbols to broader themes and concepts. Furthermore, conveying these analyses in a coherent and structured manner poses its own set of challenges. Balancing the exploration of individual symbols with an overarching understanding of their collective impact on the narrative requires a thoughtful and organized approach to writing. In conclusion, constructing a compelling essay on the symbolism in "Lord of the Flies" demands a combination of literary insight, critical thinking, and the ability to articulate complex ideas. However, for those seeking assistance or looking to delegate such tasks, it's worth noting that similar essays and more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net, where professional writers can provide support in navigating the intricate world of literary analysis. • 2. I m Being Interviewed On My Work On Christmas Island Essay My name is Bruce, he said, into the digital recorder that I d placed on the bench between us. I m being interviewed in relation to my work on Christmas Island, and my experience with the movement of refugees from the Middle East and parts of Asia, via Indonesia, into Australia. Illegally. It was a crisp afternoon in October at Battery Park in New York City. We sat by the water, talking over takeaway cappuccinos from a nearby Italian cafГ©. Sunday tourists streamed past us, chatting excitedly in foreign languages that were difficult to catalog. The Staten Island Ferry floated by at a snail s pace on the smooth surface of the Hudson, cramped with passengers straining for a glimpse of Lady Liberty and Ellis Island. Bruce was engrossed in people watching; he snapped pictures, chatted with strangers, and when several women wearing the hijab sat down nearby ventured to comment on how surprisingly multicultural Manhattan is. Behind us, adjacent to the maze of caricature artists, overpriced beer vendors, and hip hop dancers, stood the Castle Garden: the world s first immigrant depot. There we were, recording an interview over the steady blare of ferry horns, in a place that millions of migrants legal and otherwise have passed through. Bruce is a former officer at the Christmas Island Immigration Reception and Processing Center, a facility occupied by around 3,000 detained asylum seekers on a remote tropical island in the Indian Ocean. The island is an
  • 3. Are Apple s So Popular ESL0420Advanced Writing Analysis Paper Le Han leh@mtu.edu Mar 5th, 2013 Why are Apple Products so Popular? In today s world, Apple s products are highly sought after because they are very popular for everyone. According to YarowпјЊeditor of The Business InsiderпјЊsaid that the newest iPhone sold 5 million over the opening weekend (Yarow, 2012). However, it is difficult to find the reason why Apple s products are so superior compared with other electronic products in the market. Since Apple s products come out in our life, it has facilitated our life and brought us huge benefits. For instance, people do not need to bring their heavy laptops to go to work every day, because they already have the portable tablet PC iPad. The ascent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DigiTimes (2010) demonstrates that the first generation of iPad price was $499, at that time some tablet PC manufacturers predicted iPad s price is about $1000 and these tablet PC manufacturers originally planned their tablet prices 20% 30% lower than the iPad. The present the iPad price is only $499, which compels the tablet PC manufacturer to re evaluate the price strategy. If tablet PC manufacturers want their product appealing to consumers, they could only adjust the price lower than the iPad. But the final result shows that it is failed, and now iPad is the fourth generation, but it still people s first choice for PC tablets. If the iPhone and iPad s price were more expensive, maybe they would not be so popular; I believe Apple Company is also aware of this In short, my conclusion is that the cause of Apple s products being popular depends on its creative design, unique innovation and the reasonable price. If there were no Apple s products, I believed the development of electronic products would slow down at least ten years. Because the market has Apple s products, our life is more convenient than before. The emergence of Apple s products makes electronic product market have more competition. No matter what, the direct beneficiaries of the price war is the consumer. The constantly price war will make commodity prices approached the cost. Consumers can buy more high quality

  • 5. Taking a Look at Professional Procrastination By definition, the act of procrastinating is to postpone an event until a later time. We as humans have all delayed something in our lives, either related to school, work, or social activities. Although anything in life has the potential to be postponed or put off until the last minute, procrastination is more commonly seen in schools and colleges among students. There are several reasons why students put off assignments, but, the main reason is that they do not take pleasure in doing their homework. Even though some students are unsuccessful in their dawdling, many students are often successful and benefit from saving coursework until the last minute . Taking a look at this process, we can see that procrastinating may actually save time and energy. The first step in the procrastination process is to make a conscious decision to postpone a project until a later date. Upon receiving a homework assignment, students will often look over what they will be asked to do. If they are discontented by what they are presented with, thoughts such as I do not want to do this or I will do this later will spring up in their brain. After a student has either of the previous thoughts, they then put the assignment in their folder or binder and do not touch it until later. Frequently a student has no motivation to begin an essay, for example, right after receiving the prompt because there is no pressure to complete it in a short time. Since there is no drive to work on the essay, the

  • 8. The Theory Of Psychology And Psychology Psychology first started in 1879 by Wilhelm Wundt who founded the first laboratory which specialized in psychology at the University of Leipzig in Germany. Wundt used controlled experiments to investigate the mind by using a method called introspection which examined an individual s mental state to gain an understanding of how our mindworks. This approach became known as Structuralism, deals with the study of the conscious mind, with the idea that the conscious mind can be broken down into basic elements that combined to form to the structure of the human mind. The second approach to psychology came in 1890, Functionalism. Functionalism was influenced by Darwin s views on natural selection and wanted to explain the mental processes in ... Freud also suggested that childhood experiences affect our behaviour as adults. He believed we go through a series of stages called the psychosexual stages of development and if trauma or excessive pleasure occurs it will be reflected in our personality as adults. Freud created dream analysis a form of therapy, as he argued if a person experiences a traumatic event they can use defence mechanisms such as repression the move the memory into the unconscious mind, which can lead to mental illness. Dream analysis is a form of therapy that allows the unconscious mind to be accessible in order to deal with repressed memories and explain the patient s mental illness. One strength of the psychodynamic approach is its practical application of dream analysis. Research by Sandell has shown that dream analysis can be successful in reducing a variety of mental illnesses. However a weakness of the psychodynamic approach is that it is reductionist, it over simplifies the explanation of human behaviour and ignores other factors that may cause behaviours. A key moment that developed after the psychodynamic approach was Behaviourism. The behaviourist approach argue that behaviour is learned through our interactions with the environment. Our behaviour is changed and altered by the consequences of our actions. There are two types of conditioning that have been

They show how built several pyramids under different pharaohs and techniques but today they re still standing. While many have said the pyramids have been the work of aliens, many egyptologists disagree. From years of research, a solid explanation has crom from Davidovits and Morris, who believe that the ancient Egyptianscast their pyramidblock and did not quarry them. For years, the heave ho method of building the pyramids has been the most logical. This involved ramps being used to move the pyramid blocks and other materials to the right level. While remains of ramps have been found, they were small and most likely used for climbing opposed to raising stone blocks. in addition, to sustain the 1400 block per day on the Great Pyramid, they would have needed 52,000 workers with 140 workers on each stone making four trips per day on a ramp, which seems highly unlikely. Aside from all of this, there are also no murals of Egyptian workers using ramps on the Great Pyramid. If we look at later building equipment there were wooden rollers but the earliest use of them have been dated to 1600 BCE, almost a millennium after the Great Pyramid. Through process of elimination, the only method left is to cast the pyramid blocks directly into

This study focused on whether this was true for infants. It s said that similarity is an important aspect of human interaction and influences social cognitive processes. When a person befriends someone who is similar to them, they tend to find them trustworthy, fair, and intelligent, as opposed to someone who is dissimilar to them. This study researched the significance and social consequences in early preferences of similarity. It s suggested that infants social evaluations are based on two criteria s: whether the act done by the individual was helpful or harmful, and the infants personal feelings towards the target of that act. In the first experiment, there were thirty six 9 month olds and sixteen 14 month olds. In the first phase the infants were to choose their preferencein food, being given a choice between graham crackers and green beans. Then in phase two, a puppet show was conducted for the infants in whom two rabbit puppets identified their food preference. • 11. The Beginning Causes of the Russian Revolution of 1917 Essay The Russian Revolution of 1917 is a collective term for two so called revolutions one in February and one in October that occurred in Russia in 1917, which dismantled the Tsarist autocratic regime and led to the creation of the Soviet Union and, ultimately, several decades of communist dominance. While the world revolution is often used to encompass events in both February and October in 1917, only the first actually merits the name. The February Revolution was a mass spontaneous event that overthrew the autocracy of Tsar Nicholas, while the events that occurred in October that led to the overthrow of the government set up in the aftermath of the February Revolution, were tightly controlled and executed in the style of a coup d Г©tat.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Russian Revolution began with the February Revolution (that actually occurred in March), which was one of the most spontaneous, unorganized mass revolts in history. In the cities, food shortages mounted and the morale of people fell. Riots broke out in Petrograd as people demanded more bread, eventually spreading to different industries and throughout the city. Orders to fire on demonstrators were given, inflicting a number of casualties. Meanwhile the fate of the regime was, in effect, sealed when the troops mutinied and refused to obey orders and take up arms, marching in the streets with other demonstrators. Tsar Nicholas tried to sustain the monarchy by abdicating in favor of his brother Michael, but he refused the crown, thus ending the centuries old Romanov dynasty, and leading to the establishment of a dual power between the Provisional Government and the Petrograd Soviet. The Provisional Government, headed at first by Prince Georgy Lvov and later by Alexander Kerensky, established various rights, including freedom of speech, religion, equality, and the right to strike. However, they had to compete with the Petrograd Soviet, who kept a close eye on them, issued decrees of their own, and were considered in many ways more powerful because of their increasing control of the army, factories, and railways. The American Dream is an ironic term and quite satirical in nature as it is everything but a dream although it has always been a staple of American culture. As America evolved so did the perception that America was different from other nations. America has been depicted as a landed of unlimited opportunities where anything could be achieved. It is quite an interesting phenomenon based on mobility in social class hierarchies. In his digression the Pardoner melodramatically denounces a number of sins, making extensive use of rhetorical devices such as hyperbole, anaphora and apostrophe: O glotonye, ful of cursednesse! O cause first of oure confusioun! O original of oure dampnacioun. He seems to use these to involve and unnerve his audience and effectively keep all eyes on him. He alludes to both the Bible and classical mythology, citing Biblical prophets, historical figures and philosophers. In contrast the tale itself is relatively plainly told and we can safely assume that the Pardoner is well practiced in the art of telling this specific tale and even inserts some of his sermon into it. His sermon is based on several medieval conventions, such as that of the mysterious old man, whom Dr. McIntyre identifies as a representation of the immanence and inescapability of death, something which would have struck a chord with a medieval audience suffering from the onslaught of the Black Death. The tale is an example of a very well defined genre with its own conventions and devices; nevertheless the pardoner makes it his own through his own use of rhetorical flourishes and poetic detail. He

This quixotic character completes a quest or expedition with little to no faults. In recent times, the ideal hero archetype is challenged by the untoward anti hero archetype. Today, the anti hero is largely represented and featured in recent film and society. The hero archetype is losing prevalence in modern fiction stories due to the increasing demand of the anti hero. The original hero archetype greatly contrasts the modern anti hero archetype. A hero is someone who displays little to no flaws and is widely liked by the majority. This character presents its storyline with exceptional traits. The anti hero archetype is completely opposite of the hero archetype. Unlike the traditional hero who is morally upright and steadfast, the anti hero usually has a flawed moral character (Michael). Modern anti heroes lack in grace, power, and social success (Neimneh). They deal with issues and insecurities such as alcoholism and infidelity (Michael). Anti heroes make unpleasant moral compromises, in contrast to the desired, in order to reach something. They want to create order where it is impossible and put the protagonistto justice . Traditional hero characters often succeed when trying to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm success rate of anti hero victory. Anti heroes also do not let their inner thoughts influence their actions while original or traditional heroes seek self definition (Teleky). She was dressed in a pink sweater which was a stark contrast to her machine gun and her character. Her movements were just as graceful as before but no longer for the simple purpose of appearing feminine. Her elegance was displayed in the way she moved, deliberately and silently, her whole body poised to strike down the enemy at the soonest opportunity. Mary Anne talks about the war in a positive light saying that when she is fighting is the only time she knows who she truly is. However, the author compares Mary Anne s relationship to war as being similar to a drug addiction. She has lost perspective on who she really is and only those around her can see her true self. In my story Mary Anne is described as having a longing for the fight which turns into an overwhelming urge to risk what is left of her life . This parallels the Song of the Tra Bong in its description of the drug like effect of war on Mary Anne. She consistently uses the phrase It s not bad to describe her transformation. It is like she is trying to convince herself that who she has become is okay and that there is no problem with what she is doing. This is not that different from the way a drug addict might try to find a justification for their behavior or at least understate its

  • 29. Is Private Property A Natural Right Essay Is private property a natural right? Yes I consider private property a natural right. Private plays a big role within natural rights. Many philosophers including Locke, Marx and Rawls each had their position on private property. This leads to the question: what is private property? You can t just give one definition because as I said before, many philosophers has different positions about private propertyon natural rights. If I had to define private property, I would say it is any property that is not public property, and maybe under the control of a group or a single individual. Locke makes the argument that when god created the world for man, he gave man a reason to make use of the world to the best advantage of life and convenience. What he means by that is, that god made this world for man, and he made it he gave man the right to use that what is in this world to his benefit. Locke explains that every man has property in his own person, and that nobody has any right to that property but that person. The author states that whatsoever then he removes out of the state of nature hath provided, and left it in, he hath mixed his labor with, and joined to it something that is his own, and thereby makes it his property (Locke). What Locke means by that statement is that once a person remove something out of its original state of nature that something becomes that person s property. After someone gains this property are there any limitations on that property? Locke believes that that there are limitations on that property. Locke believes that god has given us all things richly, and that man may use those things as long as he takes what he needs.

Her appreciation of James writing is one of the reasons for the many similarities and differences between the two texts. Hill was greatly inspired by the setting of Oh, Whistle, and I ll Come to You, My Lad and this results in her novel being a similar reading experience to James story. One of the most obvious influences on Susan Hill s novel is the similarity between the title of M.R. James story and one of the chapters in The Woman In Black , ... The main characters in the stories are also very similar, both Parkins ( Oh, Whistle, and I ll Come to You, My Lad ) and Arthur (The Woman In Black) are young, curious and non believers of anything to do with the supernatural. Parkins in particular makes his views very clear: My own views on such subjects are very strong. I am, in fact, a convinced disbeliever in what is called the supernatural It is obvious from this that Parkins feels strongly on the matter of the supernatural, as does Arthur. The similarities do not end there; they both harbour a desire to explore and in Oh, Whistle, and I ll Come to You, My Lad it is this desire to explore which leads to the main element of the story, the unearthing of the whistle and visit of the ghost. In the novel, Arthur s tendencies to explore lead to him discovering the graveyard and the ghost. Also both writers use events in the story to shape the personality of the characters, for example, Parkins begins Oh, Whistle, and I ll Come to You, My Lad as a strict disbeliever of folk lore and ghosts but ends the story being forced to believe them after experiencing them himself. Also both characters are haunted by their experiences, Arthur specifically cannot escape the memories of the ghost and the

To begin with I can t but mention that without assessing(considering, evaluating) Commodity Fetishism both from the points of view of the philosophers of the past and economists and businessmen of the present it s not an easy task to investigate the subject. According to Karl Marx Commodity Fetishism is the perception of the social relationships involved in production as economic relationships among the money and commodities exchanged in market trade . In simple words it s the cult of the things selected and providing them with super valuation. Commodity Fetishism transforms abstract, subjective aspects of economic value into real, objective, valuable for people things. Let me say a few words about the human nature. Each of us is material. We are sure we need more than we really need to survive. That s probably, the main reason why socialism was unable to compete with capitalism, especially former Soviet republics closed for bright, new, modern or brand new trade marks. Big and small stuff becomes an integral part and an accompaniment(a supplement) to a personality. Speaking about the effects of Commodity Fetishism I should emphasize that they are not confined to the sphere of production but permeate every sphere of social life. Social relationships become the property of things and the form of false consciousness concealing real conditions. The global effect of commodity fetishism is that we have become the society of consumers. We have reached the freedom for but not
  • 34. Analysis Of I Carry My Heart A young man is currently in the thicket of love with his significant other. At the drop of a pin the man would get her anything she could desire, regardless if it is a need or a want. Some would question why, but it is because it is he who has fallen head over heels for her. For she is the love his life, his one in a million, the irreplaceable. She is the one who keeps his heart in a steady rhythmic beat, who brightens his day like the early morning sun. This is relatable for millions of people in the world today, it is so well known that it could be considered a universal theme. E. E. Cummings explains a very similar meaning in the poem [i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)] . The theme of the poem is that the unity of loveis dangerously powerful when it is between two in love. Cummings makes this happen through using metaphors, personification, and repetition. Cummings uses metaphors throughout the poem to show how much care he has for her. E. E. Cummings starts the first line of his poem with a metaphor saying i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart) . He uses this metaphor to show that even if he and his lover are far apart, she will always be on his mind, in his heart, and close to him. E. E. Cummings uses another metaphor almost immediately after in line 6 saying, for beautiful you are my world,my true . In the use of this metaphor he is emphasizing that she is that someone you hope to never lose, because you would be nothing without them. The final
