Analysis Of New Rulers Of The World By John Pilger
There s no difference between the quite ruthless intervention of international capital into foreign
markets these days than there was in the old days, when they were backed up by gunboats....
The world is divided between the rich, who get richer, and the poor, who get poorer, and the rich
get richer on the backs of the poor. That division hasn t changed for about 500 years, (Pilger,
John). This quote sums up the book New Rulers of the World by John Pilger. It talks about the
new global economy and shows us that divisions between the poor and the rich have never been
more obvious. This book also talks about how the media and journalists are corrupt and only talk
about what will make them big money, leaving out the actual truth behind the stories. Pilger based
this book on the impact of globalisation in Indonesia, where the World Bank described it as a
model pupil until it s what was known as globalised economy collapsed in 1998. Since then,
globalisation has made the world smaller. But not only has globalisation made the world smaller, it
has made it interdependent. Globalizationmay seem like a good idea, get your products out there,
make a lot of money, but it is really hurting our world as a whole and making it virtually smaller .
Throughout the book, Pilger examines sweatshops of famous name brands around the world.
Then the questions start flowing out: Who are the real beneficiaries of this globalized
economy? Who actually rules the world now? Is it governments or handfuls of gigantic
companies? It is proven that the Ford Motor company by itself is bigger than the whole
economy of South Africa and that Bill Gates is richer and has a greater wealth than all of Africa
alone! Pilger pretends to be a buyer so he can infiltrate the Indonesian GAP and Old Navy
sweatshops to interview the workers. He found that the wages of the workers could be doubled
if brands like Nike would just raise their shoe prices a measly 40 cents. Pilger states: Nike
workers get about 4% of the retail price of the shoes they make, which is not enough to buy the
laces, (Pilger, John p.18) The first chapter, The Model Pupil talks of Asia and how globalization
began there. It also talks of horrid stories in Indonesia and the

Child Labour Around the World
Child Labor lingers among all
Introduction Child labor has been an enormous issue lingering amongst our world today, but yet
people d not realize that it is still occurring more often in developing countries. Throughout the
last few decades, child labor has been declining in many countries. However, more than 250
million children between the ages of 5 and 14 are still working ( Child labor around, 2013).
Some sort of child labor exists in each country due to weak economic structure and lack of
regulations. These children are often forced to work under hazardous conditions, which can be
identified as child labor ( Child labor around, 2013). Many of these children s childhood are taken
away from them as well as an opportunity to gain an education. They lose the opportunity to
understand what it is like to have a normal childhood. Children in poverty end up with no choice
but to work under extremely hazardous conditions. Children are often viewed as cheap labor
which leads to corporations taking advantage of child labor to look for an opportunity of
increasing their profits. Corporations often have overseas subcontractors that use child labor as a
method of maximizing profits ( Child labor around, 2013). Child labor often occurs to the poverty
trap cycle , which means children lacking an education lead towards the work path. The poverty
trap cycle is classified as a cause and effect; the first step of eliminating child labor is elimination
of poverty. The concept

The Use Of Pesticides And Their Rate Of Decay On Soil...
One of the largest, and unspoken issues being dealt with in the United States today is the use of
pesticides and their rate of decay on soil rejuvenation. American culture currently accepts the
adaptation of genetically modified foods without regard to its various effects. In fact according
to the Organic Consumers Association, It s estimated that 75 percent of processed foods
contain GMOs and 80 percent of all food consumed in the U.S. is processed. (5) Our country has
developed a system in which the agricultural norm is to use genetic modifications in order to
keep up with the demand for fast, good looking produce. As long as America is choosing the
cheaper option of mass produced GMO infested product, we will see a continual decline in soil
quality and American health problems. In an economic sense, due to the oversupply of
genetically modified foods farms with GM foods are having to deal with the over exposure of
pesticides, which slows down the rejuvenation rate of the soil.(5) In fact, the government
purposefully pays farmers to use pesticides in order to keep the cost of living down for people
who are currently living in poverty. The soil in the America needs to be organically restored in
order to have this finite resource withstand the lifespan of the human race. Hazardous effects of
pesticides on soil organisms People are becoming more aware of the hazards of genetically
modified foods. However they may still be unaware of its effects on the soil from which

Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Analysis
Variant Creutzfeldt Jakob disease is an infectious and transmittable form of a prion, although
extremely rare it still becomes highly fatal if infected. This disease can also be classified as a
Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE) that is gained through exposure to the Bovine
Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) from contaminated cattle or meat. As this is not a
prominently spread disease around the world and considering it was only recognised in 1996 it
has only held 175 cases in the United Kingdom, 25 in Spain, 4 in Ireland, 3 in the Netherlands and
the United States of America, 2 each in Canada, Italy and Portugal as well as 1 each in japan,
Saudi Arabia and Taiwan (World Health Organization, 2012).

they are not perceived to be so (US National Library of Medicine , 2012). There are some
similarities in these two diseases, they are both able to rapidly infect cells ; the Dengue virus
simply fight back the cells attacking it and infect them whilst Variant Creutzfeldt Jakob disease
uses axoplamic travel to infect more prion proteins as they go. The cellular response to the
Dengue virus entails monocytes and macrophages ingesting and destroying infected cells,

The Importance Of Standing Up For Children
Marian Wright Edelman, an American children s rights activist said, If we don t stand up for
children, then we don t stand for much. (Marian Wright Edelman Quotes.). Standing up for our
children is very important because they are the future of human existence. There can be many
reasons that children need someone to stand up for them and be there for them. Organizations
provide help when parents are unable to financially or emotionally support their children. Agencies
help find orphanages and foster families for children in need, often housing kids that have been
neglected or abused, with nowhere to go. Furthermore These children need a lot of love and
support, and Eliada Home is one of those organizations providing quality foster care, child care, and
therapy to meet that need.
Need
I m alone. I m hungry and I m shivering in the dark. (Pelzer 3). These words from a desperate
child remind us that not all children have access to foster care. Without foster care, kids would
shuffle between unsafe and temporary housing with nobody to look out for them. In Buncombe
County, the Department of Child Protective Services put 199 children in non family institutions
between July 2015 and June 2016. (Duncan) Many children suffer from abusive and neglectful
parents. In fact, in the United States a report of child abuse is made every ten seconds (Child
Abuse Statistics). Due to abuse, and drug use, many children are placed in foster care in Buncombe
County. The need for foster care

Research on Prescriptive Grammar and Its Comparison with Descriptive Grammar
ii Abstract In English linguistics, there are two approaches which are opposite to each other
theoretically: prescriptive grammar and descriptive grammar. These two grammars were born in
different historical conditions, and the application rules involved in has been still under the dispute
through the development of English linguistics. It is significant to study the development trend and
application in English language of both grammars, especially to English language learners. This
paper attempts to trace the historical background of two grammars and works out the dialectic
relationship between prescriptivism and descriptivism. The paper consists four ... Show more

Swift continues to propose an establishment of language Academy as France did to standardize
language. Unfortunately his proposal is aborted along with the death of the British Queen (Crystal,
2006, p.68 74). Most of the earliest grammar literatures are based on Latin grammar. The
publication of A Dictionary of the English Language, which is written by Samuel Johnson in 1755,
marks the explosion of prescriptivism (Crystal, 2006, p.107). Soon after this, Bishop Lowth
delivers Short Introduction to English Grammar in 1762, which claims the same ideas with
Johnson s. They observe that the grammar rules are rational and logical, and the language validity
should follow the usage by people with higher education. It is obvious that the language they
mentioned is not the one used by the general public; nevertheless, Lowth s book has been regarded
as the authority in England in the next
4 several decades. This period symbolizes the institution of prescriptive grammar. This traditional
prescriptive grammar is holding the major position of authority over one century. Compared with
prescriptive grammar, the historical development of descriptive grammar is relatively simpler.
According to Baugh and Crystal, the early descriptive grammarians think that local language which
is widely used by the public should be received great recognition. At that time, prescriptive
grammarians have already been aware

Kiesthetic Learners
Albert Einstein once said, I never teach my pupils, I only provide he conditions in which they can
learn. Everyone is designed to work differently. In some cases, this means that while some people
work best in tidy environments, others are more productive in comfortable, lived in areas. Likewise,
we were all designed to think differently. Those who are left brained are typically more analytical
while those who are right brained are generally more intuitive. Visual, Auditory, Reading/Writing,
and Kinesthetic Learners all vary in how they store and understand information. The problem with
the traditional educationsystem is that there are only methods of teaching that apply to a few of
these learningtypes. While less conventional methods of teaching are being used in a few schools
throughout the nation, not many are popular, nor are they considered effective by many of the
general public. Like some classes in which teachers use hands on activities for their kinesthetic
learners, a few options have been opening up for other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

students will suffer socially and no longer be capable of communication. Without time to
communicate with other students, such as in classes, lunch, extra curricular activities, and dances,
some parents believe that their children would not be able to interact properly with their

rules, are generally fifty five minutes of book or paper work, with occasionally a few minutes
taken out for lectures. Students that attempt to socialize during this work time are often scolded for
disrupting class or, in some extreme cases, given detention. In addition to this, most people that

Theme Of Symbolism In Sea Of The Sea
The novel is rich in symbolism that enhances both the plot and the Themes. The major symbol is
the sea, which stands for all of life on which man must sail. In both the sea and in life, there are a
number of possibilities that lie hidden from the common eye; some are gifts to be treasured and
some are problems to be defeated. Neither will be found unless man embarks upon the journey. If
man is lucky enough to discover a treasure (be it love or family or education), he must fight until
death to retain it; if man is unlucky enough to discover an evil lurking underneath the surface of
the sea (any one of life s varied problems), he must fight it bravely and nobly until the end. In
either case, it is the struggle that is all important, and a man obtains the status of hero if he battles
the sea (life) with grace under pressure. In the novel, Santiago embarks on a sea journey (life) and
encounters a giant marlin (treasure). He battles nobly to earn the treasure and then fights the sharks
(problems) to save it. The struggle defines him as a hero. Even though he loses the treasure (the
marlin) to the sharks (the problems), he has won the sea battle(life).
In addition, Santiago serves as a metaphor for the creative artist, someone like Hemingway
himself. He is capable in his profession, has proved his talent several times before, but that is not
sufficient. He has to prove it every day, for every day is a new day. Santiago s suffering is akin to
artistic creation, which is never

Central Park Five Essay
The movie The Central Park Five was a documentary film. It is talking about five young men
were involved in a rape case. One white woman was raped and left for dead in the central park in
1989. Police officers arrested five fifteen years old suspects. The government did not have enough
evidence to judge these five black men and Latino Americans; however, because of the racial
discrimination, the justices judged them as guilty and sentenced them to jail about 9 to 15 years.
After few months, Matias Reyes confessed to the rape case and the lab test also showed that the
sperm was matched. The five teenagers were released after the suspect confessed his crime.

That black man was angry, but there was nothing he could do, so he kept jogging and left. From
this example, we can see that the inequlity not only happened in the past, but also happened in the
present.
Racism was a big problem during the 18 and 19 s century. White peoplealways thought that they
were at the higher level in the society and they treated black harshly. They could trade them in the
markets. They also thought the deserved to have better life, better education, better house, etc. Why
this happened? The government was the chief culprit. The government educated white people that
they were above the blacks. Because of that, they taught their children in the same idea. Luckily,
the growing number of people realized that it was unfair and they tried to make the government
treated everyone equally. More than that, the government laid down the law of protecting all of the
colored people; however, even the laws passed, the racism still happens today. Black peoplewere
classified as robbers, murders, or thieves and a lot of people judge them with this category.
All in all, racism should not happened in this present day, and it is terrible if that happened;
however, as we could see, America has went through this by having a black president today. Since
that, America is trying to tell that everyone is equal and has the same rights, no matter where they
came from, what color of their skin, and what races they belong

Cinderella Ate My Daughter By Peggy Orenstein
Cinderella Ate My Daughter by Peggy Orenstein
A Review of the Literature Growing up in today s society can be traumatizing for any child.
When it comes to growing up as a young girl, however, it can be downright devastating, but not
only for the child but the parent as well. There are so many decisions to be made when choosing
how to raise your child, assuring that you have instilled proper values to develop a healthy sense
of self worth and confidence. Upon reading the book Cinderella Ate My Daughter: Dispatches from
the Frontlines of the New Girlie Girl Culture , by Peggy Orenstein, I was extremely captivated to
absorb the opinions that she had on raising a girl and all of the feminine influences that naturally
surround her. The author herself had stated right from the first page how she initially wished for
the child in her womb was a boy. My preliminary notion that joined this book to the course
material was assumed before I even began reading, as several obvious details it became apparent
that the book for sure had to be about gender roles and gender identity. The whole topic of
princesses in the title, as well as the way the books cover flaunted pink and shimmery glitter it
was just a telltale sign to have gender specific ties. That impression continued as I began reading
the very first chapter boldly titled Why I Hoped for a Boy . There were such forthright examples
making it overly apparent that she, the author, would be discussing the sexes, meaning girls vs.

The Cost of Prohibiting an Individual from Pursuing Their...
Every individual has the right to their own good life, how they go about find and/or making it is
up to them. However, there are certain individuals who feel the need to dictate the path that
others choose to take. Like all actions, there are equal and opposite reactions, in this case, a
consequence. As seen in Sophocles Antigone and Harold Brighthouse s Hobson s Choice, the
consequence that Kreon and Henry face for prohibiting individuals pursuit of the good life is
isolation from loved ones. Sophocles character Kreon faces the ultimate price of isolation for
interfering in the pursuit of Antigone s good life as depicted in the play Antigone. Antigone s
view of building the good life was to honor the Gods and what they wished upon the people.
When Antigone s two brothers die Kreon declares a proclamation, not to honor him [Polynices]
with funeral rites or wail for him ( Sophocles, line 203 204), this went against the views of the
Gods. Antigone would rather go against Kreon s word and please the Gods by preforming the
burial rites for her brother, in pursuit of her own good life. However, Kreon does not let this act
of disobedience slide, he sends her to a cave to leave her there alone, deserted, whether she
desires to die or to love entombed (lines 887 888). This act of prohibiting Antigone from living
her good life cost Kreon the price of the loved ones around him. After Antigone was locked away,
she was found hanging by her neck (line 1221), she kills herself.

Earlier Heinz was a leverage buyout in 2013 through 3G Capital by Berkshire Hathaway. On the

Attack on the World Trade Center
Tuesday, September 11, 2001, began as a normal peaceful morning in the largest city in the
United States. New York City was just as busy as usual, all the hustle and bustle of the people
headed to their jobs, all the traffic going in and out of the World Trade Center. Millions of the
people were in morning rush hour on their way from their homes to work. The World Trade Center
was a symbol of U.S. power and financial strength, but that was about to change. A few minutes
after 9:00 a.m., the sky was not sunny and clear as it had just been minutes before. There was
smoke, dust, and debris everywhere. Two jet airplanes, hijacked by religious terrorists, crashed
into the twin towers of the World Trade Center and blowup. The impact left a gasping, burning
hole in both of the towers, killing hundreds of people almost instantly and trapping thousands
more in higher floors. The collision caused a gigantic explosion that showered burning debris over
surrounding buildings and the streets below. A third plane hit the Pentagon just outside
Washington D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. America was under
attack. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington D.C.,
including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. This lead to millions of people trapped
with no way of escaping the twin towers. They knew they would not make it back home to their

Essay on Lucid Dreaming
Lucid Dreaming
Dreams are the playground of the mind. Anything can happen when one is dreaming. The only
limitation is that we only rarely realize the freedoms granted to us in our dreams while we have
them. Lucid dreaming is the ability to know when one is dreaming, and be able to influence what
will be dreamt. A normal dreamis much like passively watching a movie take place in your skull.
In a lucid dream, the dreamer is the writer, director, and star of the movie.
Lucid dreams are exceptionally interesting. Lucid dreaming is defined as dreaming when the
dreamer knows that they are dreaming. The term was coined during the 1910Г•s by Frederik van
Eeden who used the word lucid in the sense of mental clarity (Green, 1968). ... Show more content

Furthermore, lucid dreams can be even more informative about the self than non lucid dreams,
because one can observe the development of the dream out of oneГ•s feelings and tendencies,
while being aware that one is dreaming and that the dream is coming from the self. The notion
that dreams are unconscious processes that should remain so is false. Waking consciousness is
always present in dreams. If it were not, we would not be able to remember our dreams, because
one can only remember an event that has been consciously experienced. The added
consciousness of lucid dreaming is nothing more than the awareness of being in the dream state.
The first thing that attracts people to lucid dreaming is often the potential for adventure and

Nazi Concentration Camp Auschwitz
The map of concentration camp found in Nazi files would be a better source to answer the
question What was the layout of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz? . There will be three
main reasons to support this argument. Firstly, it is an actual map that was found in Nazi files of
how the camp looked at that time. It wouldn t contain any opinion or something that is not true, it
would probably contain the actual fact. It would be better to look at the fact than relying on to one
person s memory. Secondly, the 80 year old man might be too old to remember the layout of the
Nazi concentration camp, it is more likely that he remembers how he had been treated rather than
remembering the layout of the concentration camp. The 80 year old man might

Tactical Training For Medical Responders
Today s society has seen an increase of unpredictable violent events that require an increasing
need for tactical medical responders. While some if not all departments in the United States have
a form of Tactical Emergency Medical Support, in the present time it almost seems as if there is a
growing need for awareness, education, and personnel to have a tactical mindset. Tactical
Emergency Medical Support is an out of hospital EMS system that focuses on medical support for
law enforcement special operations missions. Although most emergency situations involve routine
like situations such as a mild allergic reaction or a person going in to cardiac arrest, Emergency

Individuals who engage in these attacks, use weapons that involve firearms mostly, improvised
explosive devices, and sometimes sharp hand held weapons to cause the maximum amount of

are attacks that have happened with mass causalities which presented a tactical challenge to
emergency responders that were involved. No one attack is the same, and is chaotic for all
people involved. Better training and education needs to be provided to help emergency
responders so that they can face these challenges, (Landry, J. M., Aberle, S. J., Dennis, A. J.,

Organic Budgeting
While people are becoming more health conscious, it seems that budgeting is an even bigger
concern in today s tight economy. If you need to save money, does that mean that you have to get
rid of your healthy organic food? You can eat organic food, even if you are on a budget. There are
several strategies that smart shoppers use to maintain a healthy diet during lean times.
Shop in Season
Just like all types of produce, certain organic foods are priced lower, depending on the season.
Buy your organic produce in its prime production season to get the cheapest prices. Strawberries,
for example, are being grown at their peak in late spring and early summer. Oranges are at their
prime in the fall months. During summer, you should be purchasing ... Show more content on

There may be an organic line offered by your local grocery store. In addition, almost all health food
stores offer organic items, including basic produce. Finally, don t forget to check local ethnic
groceries in you area to see what organic items they may carry.
Ordering Organic Online
If you regularly use organic products that are prepackaged, consider shopping for organic food
online. Many sites offer reasonable, or free, shipping and will ship items as varied as pasta,
cereals and other non perishables. For those on a budget, this option can save a lot over buying
locally. You may get further discounts for buying in quantity, so consider stocking up or sharing an
order with a friend.
Don t Forget to Garden
Even if you don t have a lot of available variety for buying organic food on a budget, you likely
have a little patch of dirt that you can take advantage of. The fresher your food is, the better it is
for you. Nothing is as fresh as picking your own produce right in your back yard. Gardening is
probably the most budget friendly way to get top quality organic food. For the price of seeds and
compost, you can have an entire season of abundant and naturally grown produce. Since you know
exactly what has gone into your backyard garden, you can be certain that everything is up to your
standards and no pesticides were used in producing your organic

Urbanization In The Late Nineteenth Century
Urbanization in the United States in the late nineteenth century resulted from a number of factors,
in particular the rise of commercial activity following the Civil War and the industrialization of the
period. During that post bellum period, cities grew along with a rising population of those residing
in the cities. Although those two factors might, at first, appear to be the same, they are, in fact,
different. In one early study from immediately after the period (Jefferson, 1915), scholars observed
that American cities grew by about 15 million people in the two decades before 1900. Immigration
from other countries certainly featured significantly in that growth, but the industrial revolutionalso
played a significant role (Schultz, 2013,

Persuasive Essay About Snow Day
Damascus, Maryland usually gets 2 days of snow if not less per year. Which is why it s essential
for every kid living in Montgomery County to make the best of their snow day when it actually
comes. Snow days are very enjoyable for every kid, but it is sometimes difficult to find what you re
going to do. When you first wake up, make sure it s early. Before you play in the snow, you have to
celebrate because, no school! You want the first of the snow because once people have already
walked all over the experience isn t as good. After you ve embraced the fresh snow, get the
neighbors. Ask them to come outside so that you can have an even better snow day with awesome
snowballfights. The more neighbors you have, the better the day. It s always nice to have a hot
drink when you come in from the cold and hot chocolate is perfect. So, ask your parents if they
can make some hot chocolate that will be ready as soon as you come in from your snow day. I
always make sure that they put a ton of marshmallows in mine, so that the hot chocolate will be ten
times better. A competitive snowball fightis the typical snow day activity. Don t do the fight late in
the day because you won t have any more energy. Which is why you should do the fight at the
beginning of the day. First, make the teams, but make sure they are evenly separated. Sometimes
it is even fun to get everyone to gang up on one person. If you re not that person. Next, build
snow forts. These forts are good for more protection during the snowball fight. You need to make
sure the fort is sturdy with no cracks and no visible grass, so sleds are helpful for support.
Another helpful tactic when getting prepared for a snowball fight is to make a supply of
snowballs. This is helpful if you are getting annihilated by the other team; you ll have back up so
that you don t lose. Make sure that the other team doesn t steal your snowballs though. It s also
fun to just make forts not just for snowball fights but for sitting in. Go to where your parents
have shoveled the snow from the driveway and start digging into it. You have to make sure this
fort has a lot of support! If you crawl into it and it collapses it can be very dangerous. Another idea

The Brain Drain and Revolution in the Late 19th and Early...
Introduction
By the end of the 19th century, Chinese officials were beginning to realize that their country s
educational infrastructure was becoming increasingly anachronistic. Traditional education largely
ignored technology considered it low class, even and students instead focused on cultivating a sense
of moral righteousness. Yet, the Confucian centered examination system was beginning to prove
ineffective in a world where modern militaries predominated in international relations. China
learned this painful lesson during a succession of lost wars, eventually entering a long period of
introspection, quite notably, by first looking outward. Foreign education systems were of particular
interest to this nation in transition. Foreign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the late Qing Empire s encounter with Western civilization was necessarily heralded by
guns, warships, and other new instruments of Western military might. The narrative of China s
dynastic glory was replaced with a newer, less flattering image of China as the sick man of Asia
(Holcombe 193). Fears of the encroaching imperial powers were only heightened after China
lost in the 1865 60 Opium War, as were fears of increasing internal disorder, as evinced by the
1851 64 Taiping Rebellion (Bary 661; Rhoads 1 2). China would later suffer yet another
humiliating defeat in the Sino Japanese War of 1894 5, but they first instituted a series of
reforms in an attempt to curtail foreign dominance, particularly in the military sphere. China thus
entered a period of so called self strengthening, a government led restoration that spanned the
years between 1961 and 1895. This movement was largely a response to these early military
defeats and the nation s perceived sense of inferiority (Rhoads 1 2; Holcombe 201). In a phrase,
the goal of self strengthening projects and the larger Tongzhi Restoration (1862 74) was to emulate
the Western countries and master their technical skills (Holcombe 201; Rhoads 9). In order to do
this, China first had to open its borders to Western influence; the late Qing first allowed

Narrative Essay About Red Lobster
When I was younger I used to love crab legs. Everytime my mom would ask me if I wanted to go
out to eat and where I wanted to go she always knew I would say Red Lobster. It didn t have to
be a nice occasion or anything special. I could have just finished a baseball game and have a
pallet of dirt on my uniform and I still wouldn t care. I wouldn t care how people felt about it or
if I looked dirty. I would do anything to get some nice red crab legs. This all changed on one day
when my grandparents and I went out to eat. We went to a chinese buffet. I was so excited when
I was walking around and I saw they had crab legs. Knowing myself I put around 4 on my plate. I
ate them and went and got my second plate. As I was eating my second plate I started to feel a
little funny. I didn t think anything of it and I kept going. I give it about 5 minutes later my lips
felt tingly. Felt as though they were buzzing like a phone ringing. I finally tell my grandma that
I don t feel too good. She looks at me and is stunned and tells my grandpa to look at me. They
both are shocked like if I just committed a crime. My grandma then said in a panic John we have
to go to my grandpa. My grandmother then got everything together and we left. During the car
ride my grandma called my mom as my grandpa was quiet driving as usual. I heard her say I was

Semiotics Approach To Representation Analysis
Part 1
1.The name given to the approach of understanding representation as a sign system which has been
developed by Saussure is called Semiotics.
2.The Semiotics approach to representation is based around three central ideas: The sign, signifier
and signified. The signifier is the actual object or material you are observing, using any of your
senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste), it can be anything (text, music, images et cetera). The
signified is what you think of, feel or how you react when you see or hear it. The combination of
these is what makes up the sign, the actual thing being observed and what it evokes in you(Hall
1997: 31). For example, a traffic light (Hall 1997: 26). It utilizes three different colours (red, amber

punished. Resulting in them being considered as less human than the rest of the community.
Foucault discusses this in Discipline and Punishment, speaking about how prisons have changed

The American Colonization Society (ACS) was formed in 1817 to send free African Americans to

Commerce was the first economic sector to grow in the colony. However, French and British
traders continually encroached upon Liberian territory. As it was not a sovereign state, it was hard
pressed to defend its economic interests. The U.S. Government lent some diplomatic support, but
Britain and France had territories in West Africa and were better poised to act. As a result, in
1847, Liberia declared independence from the American Colonization Society in order to establish
a sovereign state and create its own laws governing commerce .
On the other hand, many abolitionists, both black and white, ultimately rejected the notion that it
was impossible for the races to integrate and therefore did not support the idea of an African
American colony in Africa. Still, the ACS had powerful support and its colonization project gained
momentum .
In 1816, a group of white Americans founded the American Colonization Society (ACS) to deal
with the problem of the growing number of free blacks in the United States by resettling them in
Africa. The resulting state of Liberia would become the second (after Haiti) black republic in the

Chief Executive Officer Compensation in the Financial...
The issue of chief executive officer compensation is the subject of dilemma in the United States.
This dilemma often triggers questions as to who decides what compensation is rewarded, as well as
how compensation is rewarded. The government strongly resents the current pay ration between
CEOs and the average salary of American citizens. Since the financial crisis, people have shown
their displeasure with the hefty compensation chief executive officers receives. But when stunning
management failures and unprecedented destruction of shareholder value are brought into the light,
it becomes increasingly difficult to defend current executive remuneration policies with these
economic underpinnings. For example, the Occupy Wall Street movement began in 2011 in protest
of the increasing disparity of wealth among other reasons lying within corporate America. The peak
of CEO compensation came in 2001, and it is still difficult to argue whether the financial crisis of
2008 or the change in compensation strategy has slightly stagnated the exponential growth the
started in the mid 1970 s. The sentiment around the problem is whether the large banks CEO
compensation are fair to their employees, shareholders, and the community as a whole. There is a
plethora of steps to comprehend in developing how the CEO compensation debate came about. The
reasons for this growth rely on bank deregulation. During difficult financial times after the mortgage
crisis, arguments both for and against

The European And British Traders Essay
The European and British traders initially came to India for trading purposes. The Industrial
Revolution in Britain led to the increase in demand for raw materials for the factories there and at
the same time they also required a market to sell their finished products. India provided such a
platform to Britain to fulfill its needs. There was great political unrest within the country during the
18th century and with the declining power of the Mughals, the British officials gained an
opportunity to get hold of the Indian subcontinent. This was followed by a rapid expansion of
British power through the greater part of the Indian subcontinent in the early 19th century. By the
middle of the century the British had already gained direct or indirect control over almost all of the
region. British India, consisting of the directly ruled British presidencies and provinces, was
established and contained the most populous and valuable parts of the British EmpireThe European
Colonies of the Indian Subcontinent are the areas of the Indian subcontinent which were under the
control of European colonial powers, through trade and conquest. The first European power to
arrive in the subcontinent was the army of Alexander the Great in present day Eastern Afghanistan

Theme Of Hector And Irruin In The History Boys
Hector is the Hero of Act One and Irwin is the Villain How far do you agree?
In Allan Bennett s, The History Boys, controversial teachers hector and Irwin are made out as one
hero and the other a villain. The ability to be able to distinguish these complex characters as a
hero, a person who is admired for their admirable nature; or a villain, who s immoral and erroneous
actions characterise them distinctly; is irrelevant as they both harbour characteristics seen as
desirable and distasteful. Both Hector and Irwin display qualities characteristic of being both a hero
and villain, therefore neither being solely one or the other. Hector and Irwin are neither solely a
hero or villain as they both commit actions that are typical of being a tragic Hero (Hector) and an
Anti hero (Irwin).
Hector can be seen as the Hero in this play as his want for his students to be enriched by
education portrays him as a cool and revered mentor. To become this figure that appeals to the
audience, hector s teaching style is portrayed as irrelevant, interesting and energetic. Irrelevance
is affirmed by his use of French in the comedic prostitute scene (p12 19). The use of the French
language in the dialogue is used to convey how connected the boys and Hector are. The
flourishing nature of French presents a kind of mystery to their fun; to all that don t understand, it
s like being left out of a club. By having his general studies lesson in French, completely off topic,

Mistakes In America
When thinking about the word America, an interesting word popped up in my head. It isn t very
easy to describe this word, as it s unlike any other country. In fact, it is something more outstanding.
Even though this country has made some big mistakes in its history, it doesn t affect the definition
it deserves. Americans are a mixed raceof people that come from many different countries; sharing
the same rights but possessing their own opinion on the idea of a better life for themselves and
their families. The ability to connect with each other and cooperate also helps to define the ability
to move forward and find new ways to innovate.
When I was first thinking about what I see an American as, I saw a fat, lazy person lying on the
couch and eating pizza everyday. However, while some of these people may exist, it s also a
group of people that are leading the world in technology and innovation. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs,
and many others have made the world a better place. Americans are the western pilgrims, who are
carrying along with them that great mass of arts, sciences, vigour, and industry, which began long
since in the East (P30). Americans possess a creative nature that allows them to make things of a
better quality. America has become the strongest country by means of military and economy in the

H. J Mccloskey s Article On Being An Atheist
H. J. McCloskey, an atheist author, wrote an article titled On Being an Atheist which explains why
he is an atheist, his views on God, and why He believes that being an atheist is more comfortable
and reasonable than believing in Christianity. While arguing against the proofs within the
cosmological argument and teleological argument, McCloskey does not acknowledge the
ontological argument. He then goes on to say how belief in Godis not necessary and living by faith
is irrational. My goal of this paper is to examine his article, point out the flaws, and prove that his
arguments do not prove atheism to be true. McCloskey refers to proofs as an argument that
favors God but cannot make a case for God. He then goes on to argue that those proofs should
not be used and discarded. Dr. Foreman, however, suggested the accumulative case approach,
which tells us to collect the proofs and evidence that says God, in fact, exists. One main reason
that we cannot be one hundred percent sure when we say that God exists is the possibility of us
being wrong. On one hand, Dr. Foreman argues that things that take place around us are evidence
of God. However, McCloskey says that the case for God cannot be proved through Christianity. In

When I was five years old, my parents took me to the Louvre. Although I was not familiar with all

Histology Chapter 5 Summary
Chapter 5 deals with histology, the study of tissues. Types of tissue include epithelial tissue,
connective tissue, nervous and muscular tissue. Cell junctions, glands and tissue growth,
development, repair and degeneration are discussed.
Histology is also called microscopic anatomy because a microscope is needed to view the
structures of tissues.
Tissues are prepared for study thinly slicing the tissue, preserving them with a fixative and
staining them to produce greater detail. Tissue samples can be sliced longitudinally, by cross
sections or by oblique sections. Liquid tissues, like blood are smeared on a slide for microscopic
study. Epithelial tissue covers the body and internal organs. It protects the body from injury and ...

The two types of osseous tissue are spongy bone and compact bone. Blood is the liquid connective
tissue. It is made of a ground substance called plasma and other formed elements. The formed
elements are erythrocytes (red blood cells), leukocytes (white blood cells), and platelets that aid in
clotting.
Nervous tissue is made of neurons, and neuroglia (glial cells). The neurons have a pronounced cell
body called the neurosoma. Dendrites are extensions that branch from the neurosoma to receive
messages and communicate those messages to the neurosoma. Neurosoma also have an axon
(nerve fiber) that extends from the cell body that sends out signals to other cells. Glial cells transmit
messages only short distances. They provide protection and support to the nervous system.
Muscular tissue is built to contract and relax for movement, circulation and digestion. Skeletal,
cardiac and smooth muscle are the 3 types of muscular tissue. Skeletal muscle is usually attached to
bone, but there are exception like the tongue and some muscles of the face. Skeletal muscle is
voluntary and striated. Cardiac muscle is only found in the heart. It is involuntary muscle tissue but

Napoleon And Illya s Fighting Analysis
For this media fight analysis, I will be studying Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin from the 1960
s television series, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. In addition to fighting with guns and a myriad of
other weapons, Napoleon and Illya primarily use hand to hand combat against their opponents
stemming from traditional boxing and Judo. The primary goal for their methods of fighting is to
subdue their opponents instead of causing great injury or death. When death does occur, it is
usually in the form of self defense, necessity, or the opponent is killed by an error in their own
weapons, like poison or killer bees.
Napoleon s and Illya s fighting style is a blend between traditional boxing and Judo. Known for
mostly using punches and evasive footwork instead of an emphasis on kicking, boxing has
evolved dramatically over history. Historians have found evidence that the earliest form of boxing
was created in 4000 BCE in North Africa, spreading to Greece and Rome as a spectator sport. In
1681, boxing was first documented in Britain, and it was in 1743 when there were actual rules to
prevent deaths in the sport. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Napoleon and Illya are clearly trained to fight, disarm, and possibly kill their opponents if
necessary. They do not go for the kill right away because it is their goal to apprehend the enemy
and bring them to justice. Their fighting style shows that they are able to defend and attack, but it
also shows that they are not perfect in their execution. In some cases, Napoleon and Illya make
mistakes in their fighting which end with them being captured or having an opponent escape to
make an appearance later in the series. Sometimes the two spies are paired up with bigger and
stronger opponents, forcing them to adjust their moves to achieve their goals and evoke sympathy
from the audience, who root for the charming, underdog

Body Temperature Lab Report
Sex steroids such as progesterone control reproductive function as well as influencing body
temperature1. Production of progesterone is low prior to ovulation, with granulose cells producing
small amounts. Corpus luteum produces large amounts of progesterone during the Luteal phase.
Progesterone is known to stimulate strong negative feedback. Due to this reason, it is the main
ingredient in contraceptive pills, as it elicits strong negative feedback throughout the menstrual
cyclepreventing LH surge, thus preventing ovulation. During the luteal phase females experience
higher body temperature due to high levels of progesterone, and lower body temperature during low
levels of progesterone2. Thus, cyclic variation may demonstrate different pattern in females taking

Maggie A Girl Of The Street Naturalism
Stephen Crane is one of the famous Naturalistic authors, and his writing Maggie A Girl Of The
Streets represents the Naturalism that describes the fall of human by huge environment and outside
force. However, Crane uses Non Naturalistic elements in this book. He uses distinctive irony and
impressionist technic which are Non Naturalistic elements to frankly show the Naturalistic hopeless
environment. Crane uses color imagery which is very unusual impressionist technic in Naturalistic
literature because he thinks that color is an important element that gives prominence to a topic.
The colors in the Maggie A Girl Of The Street is very impressionistic and realistic. These colors

Compare And Contrast Senate And House
The Senate and the house both have very important committees that take care of many things for
the United States. Each committee is responsible for taking care of specific work that belongs to
them. An important and prestigious committee in the Senate that I decided to take a look into is the
Judicial committee. On the other side of things for the House of Representatives I decided to look
into the committee of Foreign Affairs. Both of these committees are not only important to their
respective house origin, but also to the American people. The Judiciary chairman, Chuck Grassley,
is the one of the most powerful and respected man throughout the entire senate. He is a republican
from the state of Iowa. When he turned into a politician he began... Show more content on

These departments include the FBI, homeland security, nomination for representatives, pending
legislation, etc. Within these departments the judicial committee takes charge of the drug control
policy, the United States Parole commission, the supreme court nominations, district court
nominations. This committee has one of the broadest jurisdiction of all the committees because of
all the issues that they are in charge of. For example, they have continuously discussed how to
combat crime. Senator Feinstein cosponsored a bill that has put over 114,000 additional cops in
the streets of this nation in order to help fight the crime in this nation. Another big issue that this
committee faces with is immigration reforms. For decades this nation has had different
perspectives on undocumented people that are within this country. Some people want to help them
become documented workers by offering citizenship, visas, or other methods while other people
do not. This is an ongoing matter that will continue to be talked about for many years to come not
only in the Judiciary committee, but also by the people of this country. The jurisdiction of Foreign
Affairs in the House will have an oversight on many different issues that include: foreign
assistance, the peace corps, international law, promotion in democracy, and as well as many other
matters. A huge issue that they are currently facing is how to defeat ISIS. This members within the
committee have been wanting to do whatever possible to stop the current execution of Christians
and help the people who are combatting ISIS in the middle east, but the current problem is that the
commander in chief, Barack Obama, does not have a strategy to take down the terrorist group. The
Foreign Affairs committee is infuriated by how Obama is taking care of the issue. On March 14,
they had a vote that

Darwin s Theory Of Evolution
Michaelangelo Lipford

Theory of evolution
The theory of evolution by natural selection, first formulated in Darwin s book On the Origin of
Species in 1859. It is when an animal changes over time it changes its heritable physical or
behavioral traits. This happens so a species is better suited to live in an environment and to have
more offspring. Evolution by natural selection is one of the best substantiated theories in the history
of science due to is evidence from paleontology, geology, genetics, to developmental biology.
The theory has two main points, said Brian Richmond, curator of human origins at the American
Museum of Natural History in New York City. All life on Earth is connected and related... Show

It can happen many ways like a population to change color or size over the course of several
generations. This is called microevolution. But over time it can become bigger it can create new
species, known as macroevolution. Darwin did know anting about anything about genetics or
how much it effects it how things works. That came later, with the discovery of how genes
encode different biological or behavioral traits, and how genes are passed down from parents to
offspring. The incorporation of genetics and Darwin s theory is known as modern evolutionary
synthesis. The way physical and behavioral changes that make natural selection possible goes to
DNA and genes. When it changes its known as mutations. Mutations are basically the raw
material on which evolution acts, Pobiner said. Mutations can be caused by random errors in
DNA replication or repair, or by chemical or radiation damage. Most times, mutations are either
harmful or neutral, but in rare instances, a mutation might prove beneficial to the organism. If so,
it will become more prevalent in the next generation and spread throughout the population. So
think of like spider man he was bit by a radioactive spider and instead of getting cancer he
changed for the better. (I am not condoning for you to get by a radioactive spider just avoid

Little Fish And Forrest Gump Analysis
From the directors of The Boys and Back to the Future Parts II III comes two epic tales of the
struggles and triumphs of life and everything in between. Comes two of the most iconic movies of
this generation and many more generations yet to come. Two life changing films that should, wait...
no... that need to be in the Cannes Hall Of Fame.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN I present to you, the heart pounding, the mind racing, the soul
touching... FORREST GUMP AND LITTLE FISH
Little Fish and Forrest Gump are both majorly socially and culturally significant with their
portrayals of everyday life struggles, whether that s in Australia or around the world, such as drug
abuse and violence in mundane suburban areas and the struggles of normalities and abnormalities
as well as racism, sexism and marginalization of the eras and societies of which these two mind
reeling movies are set.
The impact of these two epic tales socially and culturally on audiences watching these films is
astounding, they make you think about the abuse, violence, marginalization, racism etc. going on
in the world and possibly your back yard so to speak. The actors, specifically Tom Hanks(Forrest
Gump) and Cate Blanchett (Little Fish), put you in their characters shoes and make you think and
feel as their character would in their situations and journeys through life.
These two fantastic films and their amazing actors are definitely a must see and deserve
acknowledgement and praise of the quality of the acting skills

Deforestation Essay
Deforestation
Thesis:
Deforestation is one of the most significant issues of our time; considerable measures must be taken
to prevent further pillaging of our unique forest resource.
Ninety percent of the earth s trees between three and four hundred years old have been cut down.
The remaining ten percent is all we will ever have (Gallant, 97). The definition of deforestation by
the Random House Dictionary of the English Language is to divest or clear of forests or trees.
Deforestation is one of the most significant issues of our time; considerable measures must be taken

million hectares of forest in the world, nearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With new technology such as satellites systems, low altitude photography and side looking radar
scientists now figure that the world is losing about twenty million hectares of tropical forests
annually. It has been suggested that the high deforestation rates are caused partially by the fact that
the new surveys are more accurate and thus reveal old deforestation rates that were miscalculated
with previous methods (Westoby, 202). At first there was concern only among foresters about
deforestation but now the public has created organizations such as Green Peace to facilitate
increased awareness and reduce deforestation. The Food and Agriculture Organization (F.A.O.) has
worked mainly within the forestry community to find new and better ways to manage the forests. In
1985 there was the introduction of the Tropical Forestry Action Plan or T.F.A.P. This plan involved
the F.A.O, United Nations, World Bank, other developmental agencies, and several other multi
national government organizations; together they developed a new strategy. More than sixty
countries have decided to prepare national forestry action plans to manage their forests (Gallant,
381). Tropical deforestation has various direct causes: permanent conversion of forests to
agricultural land, logging, demand for fuel wood, forest fires and drought. Slash and burn clearing
is the single greatest cause of tropical rain forest destruction world wide. Air

Gonadtrophin Releasing Hormone Research Paper
Gonadtrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) is made in the hypothalamus
GnRH is released into the anterior pituitary gland and here it stimulates the production of follicle
stimulating hormone (FSH) and lutenising hormone (LH).
FSH and LH are able to enter the follicle (a fluid filled cavity that surrounds and protects the
developing egg cell) through the capillaries in the ovaries. The cycle begins when the female sheds
the lining of the uterus in a period. This continues for 3 7 days and GnRH is secreted by the
hypothalamus from the first day of the cycle.
There are countless follicles in the ovaries and only some will mature and only one of these will
ovulate and produce an egg.

A secondary corpus luteum develops
Progesterone is the most important hormone as after ovulation (during the luteal phase)
progesterone levels will increase slowly. This will suppress the GnRH release which in turn will
diminish the release of LH and FSH (these hormones are not required at this stage of the cycle).
Having reached its optimum level Oestrogen will now slowly decline.
The main effect of progesterone is that it stimulates endometrium growth if an egg is implanted
there.
The follicle will continue to produce progesterone to form a placenta which supplies the foetus with
nutrients from the mother.
The decrease in progesterone and oestrogen means the endometrium will shed its lining. This is a
period.
If ovulation does not occur the corpus luteum degenerates to allow a new set of follicles to mature.
All the hormones produced by the corpus luteum will decrease.
Progesterone will decrease during degeneration so it will not be able to inhibit GnRH release so
GnRH levels will rise and this will allow a new cycle to commence as FSH and LH are secreted
into the ovarian capillaries.
This 28 day cycle will now re commence as it is

This again helps it gain its Six Star Green rating. Figure 1 shows how the final design of CHв‚‚ is
by far better than the existing building, and the improvement it s made from a 4.5 star building.
HEATING COOLING
CHв‚‚ heating and cooling system is designed to have a temperature of 21 23В°C. It works with
a combination of ceiling panels and chilled beams which can be found above the windows.
These beams create cool air at around 18В°C. Heat is absorbed in the concrete ceilings and
through the natural ventilation of the building will be removed. As approximately 70% of the
ceiling is curved in shape, there is expected to be a 14% decrease in cooling energy usage by the
natural ventilation process. Figure 1 show s how the cooling of the offices is expected to work.
The heating requirements of CH в‚‚ are expected to be minimal as there will be enough heat
generated by lighting, equipment and the occupants of the building. The heat generated is
anticipated to maintain the preferred thermal comfort level. Some traditional heating may be
needed during winter, which will be generated through a gas heating system of from heat created
by gas fired mirco turbine. Figure 2 shows how the north side heating and cooling

How Climate Change Is Inherently Flawed
Because of the most recent election season, there has been a renewed interest in the topic of
climate change. In the 2016 Presidential election, the green party received over 1.2 million popular
votes nationwide, when they usually receive only 100 thousand or so. With an increased interest in
the topic of climate change, I feel it is necessary to provide factual data and projections on the path
climatechange will take to decrease misinformation. I proclaim the correct course of action to solve
the problem of climate change is to do nothing. Almost every argument I hear today discussing what
we should do about climate change is inherently flawed because of their assumptions about the
future. The current climate change model for the future assumes technologywill not improve in any
fundamental way for the next twenty or thirty years. Every argument which says climate change
will be irreversible if we do not act now assumes we will only have our current technology at our
disposal. I know for a fact technology advancements were not considered for these arguments
because there is not a good way to predict what kinds of technology we will have in the future.

  • 3. Analysis Of New Rulers Of The World By John Pilger There s no difference between the quite ruthless intervention of international capital into foreign markets these days than there was in the old days, when they were backed up by gunboats.... The world is divided between the rich, who get richer, and the poor, who get poorer, and the rich get richer on the backs of the poor. That division hasn t changed for about 500 years, (Pilger, John). This quote sums up the book New Rulers of the World by John Pilger. It talks about the new global economy and shows us that divisions between the poor and the rich have never been more obvious. This book also talks about how the media and journalists are corrupt and only talk about what will make them big money, leaving out the actual truth behind the stories. Pilger based this book on the impact of globalisation in Indonesia, where the World Bank described it as a model pupil until it s what was known as globalised economy collapsed in 1998. Since then, globalisation has made the world smaller. But not only has globalisation made the world smaller, it has made it interdependent. Globalizationmay seem like a good idea, get your products out there, make a lot of money, but it is really hurting our world as a whole and making it virtually smaller . Throughout the book, Pilger examines sweatshops of famous name brands around the world. Then the questions start flowing out: Who are the real beneficiaries of this globalized economy? Who actually rules the world now? Is it governments or handfuls of gigantic companies? It is proven that the Ford Motor company by itself is bigger than the whole economy of South Africa and that Bill Gates is richer and has a greater wealth than all of Africa alone! Pilger pretends to be a buyer so he can infiltrate the Indonesian GAP and Old Navy sweatshops to interview the workers. He found that the wages of the workers could be doubled if brands like Nike would just raise their shoe prices a measly 40 cents. Pilger states: Nike workers get about 4% of the retail price of the shoes they make, which is not enough to buy the laces, (Pilger, John p.18) The first chapter, The Model Pupil talks of Asia and how globalization began there. It also talks of horrid stories in Indonesia and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Child Labour Around the World Child Labor lingers among all Introduction Child labor has been an enormous issue lingering amongst our world today, but yet people d not realize that it is still occurring more often in developing countries. Throughout the last few decades, child labor has been declining in many countries. However, more than 250 million children between the ages of 5 and 14 are still working ( Child labor around, 2013). Some sort of child labor exists in each country due to weak economic structure and lack of regulations. These children are often forced to work under hazardous conditions, which can be identified as child labor ( Child labor around, 2013). Many of these children s childhood are taken away from them as well as an opportunity to gain an education. They lose the opportunity to understand what it is like to have a normal childhood. Children in poverty end up with no choice but to work under extremely hazardous conditions. Children are often viewed as cheap labor which leads to corporations taking advantage of child labor to look for an opportunity of increasing their profits. Corporations often have overseas subcontractors that use child labor as a method of maximizing profits ( Child labor around, 2013). Child labor often occurs to the poverty trap cycle , which means children lacking an education lead towards the work path. The poverty trap cycle is classified as a cause and effect; the first step of eliminating child labor is elimination of poverty. The concept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Use Of Pesticides And Their Rate Of Decay On Soil... One of the largest, and unspoken issues being dealt with in the United States today is the use of pesticides and their rate of decay on soil rejuvenation. American culture currently accepts the adaptation of genetically modified foods without regard to its various effects. In fact according to the Organic Consumers Association, It s estimated that 75 percent of processed foods contain GMOs and 80 percent of all food consumed in the U.S. is processed. (5) Our country has developed a system in which the agricultural norm is to use genetic modifications in order to keep up with the demand for fast, good looking produce. As long as America is choosing the cheaper option of mass produced GMO infested product, we will see a continual decline in soil quality and American health problems. In an economic sense, due to the oversupply of genetically modified foods farms with GM foods are having to deal with the over exposure of pesticides, which slows down the rejuvenation rate of the soil.(5) In fact, the government purposefully pays farmers to use pesticides in order to keep the cost of living down for people who are currently living in poverty. The soil in the America needs to be organically restored in order to have this finite resource withstand the lifespan of the human race. Hazardous effects of pesticides on soil organisms People are becoming more aware of the hazards of genetically modified foods. However they may still be unaware of its effects on the soil from which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Analysis Variant Creutzfeldt Jakob disease is an infectious and transmittable form of a prion, although extremely rare it still becomes highly fatal if infected. This disease can also be classified as a Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE) that is gained through exposure to the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) from contaminated cattle or meat. As this is not a prominently spread disease around the world and considering it was only recognised in 1996 it has only held 175 cases in the United Kingdom, 25 in Spain, 4 in Ireland, 3 in the Netherlands and the United States of America, 2 each in Canada, Italy and Portugal as well as 1 each in japan, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan (World Health Organization, 2012). There are some similarities in these two diseases, they are both able to rapidly infect cells ; the Dengue virus simply fight back the cells attacking it and infect them whilst Variant Creutzfeldt Jakob disease uses axoplamic travel to infect more prion proteins as they go. The cellular response to the Dengue virus entails monocytes and macrophages ingesting and destroying infected cells, interferons being produced to help fight the virus, B and T cells working to detect and attack with antibodies and lastly the use of the complement system to release white blood cells as well as other antibodies to remove the virus from the host (National Library of Medicine, ... • 7. The Importance Of Standing Up For Children Marian Wright Edelman, an American children s rights activist said, If we don t stand up for children, then we don t stand for much. (Marian Wright Edelman Quotes.). Standing up for our children is very important because they are the future of human existence. There can be many reasons that children need someone to stand up for them and be there for them. Organizations provide help when parents are unable to financially or emotionally support their children. Agencies help find orphanages and foster families for children in need, often housing kids that have been neglected or abused, with nowhere to go. Furthermore These children need a lot of love and support, and Eliada Home is one of those organizations providing quality foster care, child care, and therapy to meet that need. Need I m alone. I m hungry and I m shivering in the dark. (Pelzer 3). These words from a desperate child remind us that not all children have access to foster care. Without foster care, kids would shuffle between unsafe and temporary housing with nobody to look out for them. In Buncombe County, the Department of Child Protective Services put 199 children in non family institutions between July 2015 and June 2016. (Duncan) Many children suffer from abusive and neglectful parents. In fact, in the United States a report of child abuse is made every ten seconds (Child Abuse Statistics). Due to abuse, and drug use, many children are placed in foster care in Buncombe County. The need for foster care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Research on Prescriptive Grammar and Its Comparison with... i Research on Prescriptive Grammar and Its Comparison with Descriptive Grammar ii Abstract In English linguistics, there are two approaches which are opposite to each other theoretically: prescriptive grammar and descriptive grammar. These two grammars were born in different historical conditions, and the application rules involved in has been still under the dispute through the development of English linguistics. It is significant to study the development trend and application in English language of both grammars, especially to English language learners. This paper attempts to trace the historical background of two grammars and works out the dialectic relationship between prescriptivism and descriptivism. The paper consists four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Swift continues to propose an establishment of language Academy as France did to standardize language. Unfortunately his proposal is aborted along with the death of the British Queen (Crystal, 2006, p.68 74). Most of the earliest grammar literatures are based on Latin grammar. The publication of A Dictionary of the English Language, which is written by Samuel Johnson in 1755, marks the explosion of prescriptivism (Crystal, 2006, p.107). Soon after this, Bishop Lowth delivers Short Introduction to English Grammar in 1762, which claims the same ideas with Johnson s. They observe that the grammar rules are rational and logical, and the language validity should follow the usage by people with higher education. It is obvious that the language they mentioned is not the one used by the general public; nevertheless, Lowth s book has been regarded as the authority in England in the next 4 several decades. This period symbolizes the institution of prescriptive grammar. This traditional prescriptive grammar is holding the major position of authority over one century. Compared with prescriptive grammar, the historical development of descriptive grammar is relatively simpler. According to Baugh and Crystal, the early descriptive grammarians think that local language which is widely used by the public should be received great recognition. • 9. Kiesthetic Learners Albert Einstein once said, I never teach my pupils, I only provide he conditions in which they can learn. Everyone is designed to work differently. In some cases, this means that while some people work best in tidy environments, others are more productive in comfortable, lived in areas. Likewise, we were all designed to think differently. Those who are left brained are typically more analytical while those who are right brained are generally more intuitive. Visual, Auditory, Reading/Writing, and Kinesthetic Learners all vary in how they store and understand information. The problem with the traditional educationsystem is that there are only methods of teaching that apply to a few of these learningtypes. While less conventional methods of teaching are being used in a few schools throughout the nation, not many are popular, nor are they considered effective by many of the general public. • 10. Theme Of Symbolism In Sea Of The Sea The novel is rich in symbolism that enhances both the plot and the Themes. The major symbol is the sea, which stands for all of life on which man must sail. In both the sea and in life, there are a number of possibilities that lie hidden from the common eye; some are gifts to be treasured and some are problems to be defeated. Neither will be found unless man embarks upon the journey. If man is lucky enough to discover a treasure (be it love or family or education), he must fight until death to retain it; if man is unlucky enough to discover an evil lurking underneath the surface of the sea (any one of life s varied problems), he must fight it bravely and nobly until the end. In either case, it is the struggle that is all important, and a man obtains the status of hero if he battles the sea (life) with grace under pressure. In the novel, Santiago embarks on a sea journey (life) and encounters a giant marlin (treasure). He battles nobly to earn the treasure and then fights the sharks (problems) to save it. The struggle defines him as a hero. Even though he loses the treasure (the marlin) to the sharks (the problems), he has won the sea battle(life). In addition, Santiago serves as a metaphor for the creative artist, someone like Hemingway himself. He is capable in his profession, has proved his talent several times before, but that is not sufficient. He has to prove it every day, for every day is a new day. Santiago s suffering is akin to artistic creation, which is never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One white woman was raped and left for dead in the central park in 1989. Police officers arrested five fifteen years old suspects. The government did not have enough evidence to judge these five black men and Latino Americans; however, because of the racial discrimination, the justices judged them as guilty and sentenced them to jail about 9 to 15 years. That black man was angry, but there was nothing he could do, so he kept jogging and left. From this example, we can see that the inequlity not only happened in the past, but also happened in the present. Racism was a big problem during the 18 and 19 s century. White peoplealways thought that they were at the higher level in the society and they treated black harshly. They could trade them in the markets. They also thought the deserved to have better life, better education, better house, etc. Why this happened? The government was the chief culprit. The government educated white people that they were above the blacks. Because of that, they taught their children in the same idea. Luckily, the growing number of people realized that it was unfair and they tried to make the government treated everyone equally. More than that, the government laid down the law of protecting all of the colored people; however, even the laws passed, the racism still happens today. Black peoplewere classified as robbers, murders, or thieves and a lot of people judge them with this category. All in all, racism should not happened in this present day, and it is terrible if that happened; however, as we could see, America has went through this by having a black president today. When it comes to growing up as a young girl, however, it can be downright devastating, but not only for the child but the parent as well. There are so many decisions to be made when choosing how to raise your child, assuring that you have instilled proper values to develop a healthy sense of self worth and confidence. Upon reading the book Cinderella Ate My Daughter: Dispatches from the Frontlines of the New Girlie Girl Culture , by Peggy Orenstein, I was extremely captivated to absorb the opinions that she had on raising a girl and all of the feminine influences that naturally surround her. The author herself had stated right from the first page how she initially wished for the child in her womb was a boy. My preliminary notion that joined this book to the course material was assumed before I even began reading, as several obvious details it became apparent that the book for sure had to be about gender roles and gender identity. The whole topic of princesses in the title, as well as the way the books cover flaunted pink and shimmery glitter it was just a telltale sign to have gender specific ties. That impression continued as I began reading the very first chapter boldly titled Why I Hoped for a Boy . There were such forthright examples making it overly apparent that she, the author, would be discussing the sexes, meaning girls vs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, there are certain individuals who feel the need to dictate the path that others choose to take. Like all actions, there are equal and opposite reactions, in this case, a consequence. As seen in Sophocles Antigone and Harold Brighthouse s Hobson s Choice, the consequence that Kreon and Henry face for prohibiting individuals pursuit of the good life is isolation from loved ones. Sophocles character Kreon faces the ultimate price of isolation for interfering in the pursuit of Antigone s good life as depicted in the play Antigone. Antigone s view of building the good life was to honor the Gods and what they wished upon the people. When Antigone s two brothers die Kreon declares a proclamation, not to honor him [Polynices] with funeral rites or wail for him ( Sophocles, line 203 204), this went against the views of the Gods. Antigone would rather go against Kreon s word and please the Gods by preforming the burial rites for her brother, in pursuit of her own good life. However, Kreon does not let this act of disobedience slide, he sends her to a cave to leave her there alone, deserted, whether she desires to die or to love entombed (lines 887 888). This act of prohibiting Antigone from living her good life cost Kreon the price of the loved ones around him. After Antigone was locked away, she was found hanging by her neck (line 1221), she kills herself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

New York City was just as busy as usual, all the hustle and bustle of the people headed to their jobs, all the traffic going in and out of the World Trade Center. Millions of the people were in morning rush hour on their way from their homes to work. The World Trade Center was a symbol of U.S. power and financial strength, but that was about to change. A few minutes after 9:00 a.m., the sky was not sunny and clear as it had just been minutes before. There was smoke, dust, and debris everywhere. Two jet airplanes, hijacked by religious terrorists, crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center and blowup. The impact left a gasping, burning hole in both of the towers, killing hundreds of people almost instantly and trapping thousands more in higher floors. The collision caused a gigantic explosion that showered burning debris over surrounding buildings and the streets below. A third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. America was under attack. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. The only limitation is that we only rarely realize the freedoms granted to us in our dreams while we have them. Lucid dreaming is the ability to know when one is dreaming, and be able to influence what will be dreamt. A normal dreamis much like passively watching a movie take place in your skull. In a lucid dream, the dreamer is the writer, director, and star of the movie. Lucid dreams are exceptionally interesting. The notion that dreams are unconscious processes that should remain so is false. Waking consciousness is always present in dreams. If it were not, we would not be able to remember our dreams, because one can only remember an event that has been consciously experienced. The added consciousness of lucid dreaming is nothing more than the awareness of being in the dream state. The first thing that attracts people to lucid dreaming is often the potential for adventure and fantasy fulfillment. Flying is a favorite lucid dream delight, as is sex. The ability to be able to distinguish these complex characters as a hero, a person who is admired for their admirable nature; or a villain, who s immoral and erroneous actions characterise them distinctly; is irrelevant as they both harbour characteristics seen as desirable and distasteful. Both Hector and Irwin display qualities characteristic of being both a hero and villain, therefore neither being solely one or the other. Hector and Irwin are neither solely a hero or villain as they both commit actions that are typical of being a tragic Hero (Hector) and an Anti hero (Irwin). Hector can be seen as the Hero in this play as his want for his students to be enriched by education portrays him as a cool and revered mentor. To become this figure that appeals to the audience, hector s teaching style is portrayed as irrelevant, interesting and energetic. Irrelevance is affirmed by his use of French in the comedic prostitute scene (p12 19). The use of the French language in the dialogue is used to convey how connected the boys and Hector are. The flourishing nature of French presents a kind of mystery to their fun; to all that don t understand, it s like being left out of a club. In fact, it is something more outstanding. Even though this country has made some big mistakes in its history, it doesn t affect the definition it deserves. Americans are a mixed raceof people that come from many different countries; sharing the same rights but possessing their own opinion on the idea of a better life for themselves and their families. The ability to connect with each other and cooperate also helps to define the ability to move forward and find new ways to innovate. When I was first thinking about what I see an American as, I saw a fat, lazy person lying on the couch and eating pizza everyday. However, while some of these people may exist, it s also a group of people that are leading the world in technology and innovation. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and many others have made the world a better place. Americans are the western pilgrims, who are carrying along with them that great mass of arts, sciences, vigour, and industry, which began long since in the East (P30). • 38. H. J Mccloskey s Article On Being An Atheist H. J. McCloskey, an atheist author, wrote an article titled On Being an Atheist which explains why he is an atheist, his views on God, and why He believes that being an atheist is more comfortable and reasonable than believing in Christianity. While arguing against the proofs within the cosmological argument and teleological argument, McCloskey does not acknowledge the ontological argument. He then goes on to say how belief in Godis not necessary and living by faith is irrational. My goal of this paper is to examine his article, point out the flaws, and prove that his arguments do not prove atheism to be true. McCloskey refers to proofs as an argument that favors God but cannot make a case for God. He then goes on to argue that those proofs should not be used and discarded. Dr. Foreman, however, suggested the accumulative case approach, which tells us to collect the proofs and evidence that says God, in fact, exists. One main reason that we cannot be one hundred percent sure when we say that God exists is the possibility of us being wrong. On one hand, Dr. Foreman argues that things that take place around us are evidence of God. However, McCloskey says that the case for God cannot be proved through Christianity. Although I was not familiar with all the famous European artists and how much the paintings valued, I was mesmerized by the animated pictures on the wall. Standing before the painting, I felt an unspeakable pleasure permitted only to god himself. From that moment, I knew I was destined to be an artist, just like them in the Louvre. With the intense passion I had for arts, I kept digging the deeper level of artistic technique and appreciation. Unfortunately, as I learnt more about art history and style, I could not resist a sense of boredom. Now technologywas developing at a rapid rate, but, in contrast, traditional arts became more and more pale and powerless. However, in their time, artists like Da Vinci and Raphael were superstars like Lady Gaga in our time. Cell junctions, glands and tissue growth, development, repair and degeneration are discussed. Histology is also called microscopic anatomy because a microscope is needed to view the structures of tissues. Tissues are prepared for study thinly slicing the tissue, preserving them with a fixative and staining them to produce greater detail. Tissue samples can be sliced longitudinally, by cross sections or by oblique sections. Liquid tissues, like blood are smeared on a slide for microscopic study. The neurons have a pronounced cell body called the neurosoma. Dendrites are extensions that branch from the neurosoma to receive messages and communicate those messages to the neurosoma. Neurosoma also have an axon (nerve fiber) that extends from the cell body that sends out signals to other cells. Glial cells transmit messages only short distances. In addition to fighting with guns and a myriad of other weapons, Napoleon and Illya primarily use hand to hand combat against their opponents stemming from traditional boxing and Judo. The primary goal for their methods of fighting is to subdue their opponents instead of causing great injury or death. When death does occur, it is usually in the form of self defense, necessity, or the opponent is killed by an error in their own weapons, like poison or killer bees. Napoleon s and Illya s fighting style is a blend between traditional boxing and Judo. Known for mostly using punches and evasive footwork instead of an emphasis on kicking, boxing has evolved dramatically over history. Historians have found evidence that the earliest form of boxing was created in 4000 BCE in North Africa, spreading to Greece and Rome as a spectator sport. In 1681, boxing was first documented in Britain, and it was in 1743 when there were actual rules to prevent deaths in the sport. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Senator Feinstein cosponsored a bill that has put over 114,000 additional cops in the streets of this nation in order to help fight the crime in this nation. Another big issue that this committee faces with is immigration reforms. For decades this nation has had different perspectives on undocumented people that are within this country. Darwin s Theory Of Evolution Michaelangelo Lipford Mr. hooker 2 p.r. 14 December 2015 Theory of evolution The theory of evolution by natural selection, first formulated in Darwin s book On the Origin of Species in 1859. It is when an animal changes over time it changes its heritable physical or behavioral traits. This happens so a species is better suited to live in an environment and to have more offspring. Evolution by natural selection is one of the best substantiated theories in the history of science due to is evidence from paleontology, geology, genetics, to developmental biology. The theory has two main points, said Brian Richmond, curator of human origins at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. All life on Earth is connected and related... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can happen many ways like a population to change color or size over the course of several generations. This is called microevolution. But over time it can become bigger it can create new species, known as macroevolution. Darwin did know anting about anything about genetics or how much it effects it how things works. That came later, with the discovery of how genes encode different biological or behavioral traits, and how genes are passed down from parents to offspring. The incorporation of genetics and Darwin s theory is known as modern evolutionary synthesis. The way physical and behavioral changes that make natural selection possible goes to DNA and genes. When it changes its known as mutations. Mutations are basically the raw material on which evolution acts, Pobiner said. Mutations can be caused by random errors in DNA replication or repair, or by chemical or radiation damage. Most times, mutations are either harmful or neutral, but in rare instances, a mutation might prove beneficial to the organism. If so, it will become more prevalent in the next generation and spread throughout the population. At first there was concern only among foresters about deforestation but now the public has created organizations such as Green Peace to facilitate increased awareness and reduce deforestation. FSH and LH are able to enter the follicle (a fluid filled cavity that surrounds and protects the developing egg cell) through the capillaries in the ovaries. The cycle begins when the female sheds the lining of the uterus in a period. This continues for 3 7 days and GnRH is secreted by the hypothalamus from the first day of the cycle. A secondary corpus luteum develops Progesterone is the most important hormone as after ovulation (during the luteal phase) progesterone levels will increase slowly. This will suppress the GnRH release which in turn will diminish the release of LH and FSH (these hormones are not required at this stage of the cycle). Having reached its optimum level Oestrogen will now slowly decline. The main effect of progesterone is that it stimulates endometrium growth if an egg is implanted there. The follicle will continue to produce progesterone to form a placenta which supplies the foetus with nutrients from the mother. The decrease in progesterone and oestrogen means the endometrium will shed its lining. This is a period. If ovulation does not occur the corpus luteum degenerates to allow a new set of follicles to mature. All the hormones produced by the corpus luteum will decrease. Progesterone will decrease during degeneration so it will not be able to inhibit GnRH release so GnRH levels will rise and this will allow a new cycle to commence as FSH and LH are secreted into the ovarian capillaries.
