Gmo Agribusy
Agribusiness and large scale farming have seen their fair share of both critics and supporters,
especially today, as the internet has become an unlimited source of information and biased articles.
Throughout the last few decades, technologies in the farming industry have advanced immensely as
the need for more food faster has increased, but some still question the safety and trustworthiness of
genetically modified organisms, also known as GMOs, while others find these technological advances
necessary to feed our endlessly increasing population. By far the more popular view of agribusiness
and the large scale farming is the critical, anti GMO point of view. As Mary Jalonick (2014) writes on
the issue of genetically modified foods, through social media and internet access, many people have
come to form concerns over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michael Pollan (2006) writes, Before Haber s invention, the sheer amount of life earth could support
the size of crops and therefore the number of human bodies was limited by the amount of nitrogen that
bacteria and lightning could fix, he writes. By 1900, Europeans scientists had recognized that unless a
way was found to augment this naturally occurring nitrogen, the growth of the human population
would soon grind to a very painful halt (p. 2). Genetic modifications of our foods had to be made in
order to sustain the rate at which our population was growing. Agribusiness focusses on the
advancement of technology in order to produce more food at a more efficient pace. Donald Barlett and
James Steele (2008) write, Monsanto developed G.M. seeds that would resist its own herbicide,
Roundup, offering farmers a convenient way to spray fields with weed killer without affecting crops.
Convenience is key in agribusiness as it allows farmers to produce more, which is necessary to keep

Jacob, The, And Jacob
Let us commence a journey into the much travelled topic of Jacob wrestling with God. Jacob portrays
deceitful characteristics throughout Genesis; Jacob gets his name from his twin brother Esau. When
Jacob brother of Esau was born, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau s heel; so he was
named Jacob (Gen. 25.26). Part of the reason Jacob is who he is because of his brother Esau. Esau and
Jacob were more than just the typical brothers. Jacob hated Esau. It was all a competition between
them. Esau was born the hunter and Jacob did just enough to get by. They are the sons of Isaac. Jacob
had a past of struggling with God almost as if he was seeking to fulfill his own destiny all on his own.
Jacob had always been trying to seek a life that didn t involve God. The wrestling with God plays a
big part in his overall character. This is true because, when Jacob wrestles with God he comes to him.
Jacob came to God because he realized that he couldn t choose his own destiny and get there with out
God. While he was wresting with God, If the wrestler is unable to overcome Jacob spiritually, it is
because Jacob is not willing to yield. Only when the man threatens to go without offering assurances
of God s help does Jacob show his willingness to negotiate in the critical issues. (Walton 605). Jacob
so desperately wants God, he is clinging to him. Although, he is very stubborn before he submits
himself to God he wants a blessing from him, Jacob s willingness to submit

Queensland Natural Disasters
Natural disasters can and have affected people and places for as long as we can remember. The
physical damage can cost local councils and government millions and in some cases even billions of
dollars. Majority of the time the government doesn t provide the state government with enough
money. These money problems are bad, but they re not the only damage that places face after being hit
with a natural disaster. Physiological damage is just and devastating. The 2010 and 2011 Queensland
floods are a good example of the damage that places and people can face. 78% of Queensland was
declared as a disaster zone and it was said that 3 quarters of the state was affected. Over 40 people lost
their lives and around 2.38 billion dollars worth of damage

Jodi Picoult s Nineteen Minutes
For the most part, I enjoyed Nineteen Minutes. It was an extremely emotional novel about a teen boy
that killed ten people in his high school. Describing the school shooting was not the book s main idea,
the real purpose was to explain the events leading up to and the events after the shooting. In my
opinion, Jodi Picoult started the book out beautifully when she described how long the school
shooting was by relating it to basic everyday things that most people could relate to.
Most of Nineteen Minutes took place after the shooting, when the community was trying to recover
and rebuild trust after the horrific deed of Peter Houghton. Honestly, at first I was shocked because I
couldn t understand why Jodi Picoult kept backing up Peter and

The Environment And The Culture Of A Country
The environment and the culture of another country can greatly affect a business that is operating
internationally in many ways. Since every country has its own culture and values that differ from
country to country, it will affect any business that is attempting to expand internationally, as there won
t only be one culture that ought to be considered before expanding internationally, but quite a few, and
also what might be considered as acceptable in one country, it may not be in another.
Every country has environmental factors that affect it, factors that include political, economic, social,
and technological.
The political factors will affect any businesses that will be trying to expand internationally, as they
mainly revolve around the legislations that apply in that country. In the chance that a country prohibits
a business from making more than 35% gas emissions, the business that is operating in that country
will have to abide to that. Other political factors that the business will have to abide is the way that the
country operates with the employment. A business cannot treat the employees of that country working
for them to suit their needs, but they will have to consider how the country operates politically. Every
country will have their consumer rights, environmental issues and government taxes and subsidies
which will all need to be taken into account, and if the businesses do not abide then they can get
heavily fined.
The economic factors that they will have to

Reoccurring Themes In The Miller s Tale
In Chaucer s, The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer uses many aspects of one tale and incorporates it into
another using many reoccurring themes. Many characters go through similar circumstances as
Chaucer uses these themes to help each tale parallel another. For example, the Wife of Bath s Tale and
The Nun s Priests Tale, uses the theme of textual evidence as a basis of reasoning of men to overpower
women. The two tales that parallel each other the most are The Miller s Tale and The Summoner s
Tale. Nicholas and Absolon of the Miller s Tale act immoral in many ways which the Friar in the
Summoner s tale seems to exhibit. Chaucer uses the characteristics and actions of the characters in the
Miller s Tale to create a character that embodies many aspects ... Show more content on

The theme of immoral characters becomes quite disturbing when people who claimed to be devoted to
the Lord are partaking in such dishonorable acts. Dishonorable acts such as their treatment of women
show how they neglect their priesthood and are not truly men of God. The priests within the Miller
and Summoner s Tales disregard their vows of chastity and pursue women in order to fulfill their
desires of sex. Absolon, the incense swinger at the church vows for the love a young married women,
Alison. Absolon is fully aware of Alison s marriage, but is still very persistent in his attempts to try
and woo her. One of his schemes to make Alison think fondly of him involved him sending her, honey
wine, mead and spiced.....and as she [lived] in town, he [proffered] cash (The Millers Tale 88). With
his expensive gifts of food and cash leads readers to believe that he is breaking another vow, poverty.
His lust for this one woman drives him to spend essentially the church s money since priests are
supposed to take vows of poverty and refrain from living gluttonously. His desires for Alison portray
him as a clear contrast to what priests are expected to act like and in a sense, morally corrupt. The
Friar within the Summoner s Tale approaches is women is quite different to that of Absolom. The
Friar, upon meeting Thomas s wife, hugs and kisses her and says, Today I didn t see

Gore Vidal and Legalization of Marijuana
Gore Vidal, An American writer acknowledge for writing plays, essays, and novels is also famously
known for the essay Drugs: Case for legalizing Marijuana. In this essay, he talks about the effects of
legalizing Marijuana. As he begins to talk about the possible ways of stopping addiction, he analyzes
modern society while critiquing the flaws of preventative laws against illegal substances. Using
himself as an approach to explain that addiction does not occur after one intake; however after various

has not became addicted to any of them (Vidal). Realizing that the solution to preventing drug
addiction in America is a simple task, Vidal solution is to make all drugs available, while selling them

when a person consumes such substances (Vidal). As people are entitle to their own actions, it is
impossible to completely rid the world, much a country, of drug addiction. Vidal explains that
everyone in this world is not sane and that there will be addicts and substance abusers. Similar to those
who choose to end their life, the issue will remain persistent only just at a reduce minimum (Vidal).

Perfectionist Boss Analysis
What is a Perfectionist Boss ? In the article, How to Deal with a Difficult Boss , by Donna Brown
Hogarty, she discusses the many types of bad bosses. The article focuses on these specific groups: The
Bully, The Workaholic, The Jellyfish, The Perfectionist, and The Aloof Boss. The topic of this essay
will be that of the Perfectionist Boss. The Perfectionist Boss is described by Nancy Ahlrich, a college
graduate, as someone who would appear over her shoulder and inspect her work. She states, I felt
belittled by his lack of confidence in me (99). In this article we learn that the Perfectionist Boss can be
nit picking, discouraging and someone who needs to find something to worry about , as stated by
Leonard Felder. (99). The first point I want to focus on is what a Perfectionist Boss does. As a former
store manager, with Northern Reflections/Northern Getaway, the first Washington combination
women s and children s clothing store, I was the Perfectionist Boss. This was my first store manager
job. I was also what you call a rookie manager . I worked hard to get the position and I found the need

The Loss Of Innocence In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
Marigolds: The Loss of Innocence In life, it is important to always have a positive outlook when it
comes to negative situations. In the short story, Marigolds by Eugenia Collier, the main character,
Lizabeth, changes from a childish girl to a mature young adult when she realizes the pain she brought
to Mrs. Lottie when her marigolds were destroyed. Her repressed feelings from her father s
breakdown, the hopeless of her financial standing, and her mind s confliction between immaturity and
maturity causes her to commit her last act of childhood, which was ruining Miss Lottie s marigolds.
After seeing the pain in Miss Lottie s eyes, Lizabeth finally understood the true meaning behind the

Seeing her strong father cry in the middle of the night because of the shame he felt in not being able to
support his family influenced Lizabeth to destroy the marigolds in Miss Lottie s yard. When Lizabeth
overhears her father complain to her mother, Lizabeth feels that before her father was strong like a
rock and her mom was fragile, now everything has changed and her dad is broken into pieces. The
man of the household is breaking down, and does not know where he stands anymore nor does
Elizabeth. The world had lost its boundary lines. My mother, who was small and soft, was now the
strength of the family; my father, who was the rock on which the family had been built, was sobbing
like the tiniest child. Everything was out of tune, like a broken accordion (20). When Elizabeth
realizes that her father cannot support her family devastates her and Elizabeth is broken by that
realization. She does not have a stable set of parents who can even rely on each other or themselves,
leaving her to feel lost and hopeless. Elizabeth becomes insecure by the fact of her father crying.
When she realizes she cannot stand anymore confusion in her family, she goes to wake her brother up
and then vents out her angst on the marigolds and this also shows some immatureness in Elizabeth.
Collier also uses elements of characterization like the character s thoughts and actions, to show

The Problem With Employee Safety Essay
Employers spend thousands of dollars to ensure workplace safety. However when an accident occurs,
and company production and sales are at stake, many overlook operational best practices in business
ethics. Today, companies are greatly impacted by societies evolvultion toward a good place for
everyone diverse in culture, religion, and socioeconomic background. This trajectory drives social
changes, activists, and theorists who believe attaining the good is worth pursuing and has no
boundaries. As Aristotle noted, the end goals of political and individual well being are justice and
happiness (Collins 2015). In examining the Trouble in the Truss Construction Shop case study, a
pragmatic approach was used to ethically formulate possible remedies to the company s issue with
employee safety. Explanation of the problem and viewpoints One week ago, John Craftsman, a
company employee severely injured his hand while pushing a piece of wood through a table saw
during his shift at the Truss Construction Shop. Mr. Craftsman is the third accident in the current
quarter that has workers in the shop upset and claiming unsafe working conditions. The workers have
reported to OSHA and the local newspaper that the company has failed to accept responsibility for
employee safety. The quarrel over who is the blame for the accident has caused unwanted publicity
and could potentially jeopardize business sales. A thorough examination of the employee and
company s viewpoints were

Essay on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Abstract
The wrist is surrounded by a band of fibrous tissue, which normally functions as a support for the
joint. The tight space between this fibrous band and the wrist bone is called the carpal tunnel (The
Stay Well Company, 1999). The median nerve passes through the carpal tunnel to receive sensations
from the thumb, index, and middle fingers of the hand. Any condition that causes swelling or a change
in position of the tissue within the carpal tunnel can squeeze and irritate the median nerve, which
causes tingling and numbness of the thumb, index, and the middle fingers, a condition known as
carpal tunnel syndrome (Nidus Information Systems, 2001). All people ... Show more content on

A very strong ligament called the transverse carpal ligament connects the arch of bones, which makes
a complete tunnel . The transverse carpal ligament is a heavy band of fibers which runs between the
hamate and pisiform medially to the scaphoid and trapezium laterally, and forms a fibrous sheath
which contains the carpal tunnel. These bones and this ligament form a circle
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome 5
from which tendons and major nerves travel. This complete circle is called the Carpal Tunnel, hence
the name of this disease Carpal Tunnel Syndrome . Nine tiny but tough tendons, each in its lubricating
lining or sheath, slide back and forth through the tunnel as the muscles of the hand and fingers move.
These tendons are called the Flexor tendons; these tendons are the structures that let you bend your
fingers, or flex, your fingers. They are long smooth cords that arise in the muscles of the forearm and
end on the fingers. They work like a bicycle brake cable to flex your fingers, sliding in and out as the
fingers bend and straighten. The median nerve is the only nerve that travels through the tunnel along
with the tendons. This soft tissue carries sensations from part of the hand to the central nervous system
(The Stay Well Company,1999).

Pilots Are No Easy Task Of Being Self Centered Or Having A...
A lot of airplane pilots get the title of being self centered or having a big ego because they are
misunderstood. Pilots are often thought to have big egos because they can operate a very difficult
powered flying vehicles and that they are above everyone else because they are believed to be smarter
than everyone else. Of course flying a plane is no easy task but just because a certain man or woman is
capable of flying these fixed winged vehicles does not mean they think they are above the rest of
ordinary people. Pilots are a group people would not think twice about and are even unheard of when
it comes to stereotypes. Pilots need to be better understood because it is not fair to anyone to be

Maybe rewind to the fifties and that would not be a stereotype but rather the truth. To be honest your
airplane pilots today range all over the place from white suburban family men who are caring to our
troops right in our backyard protecting us to small farm owners who fly their crop dusters to retired
people who are just travelling the world looking for a good time. These are all caring people but let us
start with your average airliner pilots. The normal airliner pilot is probably the one that gets the most
hate, or misunderstood, because arrogant people give them that bad reputation. Often this particular
pilot is misunderstood because they are away from their families and have a very high divorce rate.
Due to the the divorce rate statistic they are often believed to be cheaters , or unloyal to their spouse.
These pilots are often like robots or machines who do the same old same old but do contradict the said

Classroom Safety
In my school there are different safety policies for the events, but one thing stays the same throughout
all of the safety policies and that is the bag. Each classroom has the red bag that hangs behind the
door. Inside the red bag is three cards red, green, and yellow that are about the size of conduction

the green for all is good. Inside this bag is also an a set of instructions for every disaster along with a

Therefore, her leadership style is unique, due to the early influences in her love of living in

This program will also improve the city in long term goals by having individuals who are highly

employees can be documented by the human resources department and also quarterly reviews of

corruption amongst governmental official. An incident in which recently took place with Mayor
Bowser includes her new plans to shut down a previous homeless shelter at DC General within a
certain timeline. Individuals would then transfer to new housing in which Mayor Bowser found
private property in which the city would pay for this transitional housing from its budget. Council
members became suspicious when Mayor Bowser would not discuss how the property and zoning

Behavior Plan for Violence in a 1st Grade Class
Through the last two weeks I noticed some behavioral changes in my first grade class; to be more
specific I noticed increased rate of violence, increased rate of conflicts, increased rate of complains
from two students, increased rate of bulling and increased rate of crying and screaming.
So, I decided to schedule a set of observations for the whole class and other specific observations for
the 2 students from which I received most of the complains to go deeper in to details and know the
reason behind these symptoms to be able to solve the situation, as one of my roles is to maintain the

I noticed that most of these behaviors are during recess time or PE session so I decided to attend all

Imagine being followed all day and all night feeling as though eyes are always watching. Never being
able to feel comfortable. Privacy is non existent; there is always someone watching. The speaker
seems to be in a relationship with a girl named Elise. Throughout the story, the speaker hints at
watching her at various locations and constantly checking on her social media profiles. Emma Cleary
uses literary devices in the story Lightbox to make the story vague and misleading. The author makes
it seem like the characters are in a relationship. The author uses precise language to mislead the reader.
The speaker is vague and mysterious. The author makes it seem as though the characters are in a
relationship. The speaker uses we and us numerous times throughout the story, When we get home,
Elsie takes off her coat and draws the bedroom curtains (Cleary 1). These pronouns are used to
insinuate that the speaker is in a relationship with Elsie. Especially when he says I want to tell her
about my day, but she clears her plate and disappears into the bathroom (Cleary 2). He makes it seem
like they are not connecting anymore or she is mad at him. Then ... Show more content on

common way to stalk this day and age because it is convenient and sometimes anonymous. Emma
Cleary deserves an award for this short story because it is exciting, interesting, and makes the reader

`` Hard Boiled And `` Golden Age `` By Dashiell Hammett s...
While American and British authors developed the two distinct schools of detective fiction, known as
hard boiled and golden age, simultaneously, the British works served to continue traditions established
by earlier authors while American works formed their own distinct identity. Though a niche category,
detective works reflect the morality and culture of the societies their authors lived in. Written in the
time period after World War I, Dashiell Hammett s The Maltese Falcon and The Gutting of Couffignal

urban life. In hard boiled works, the detective is more realistic than the detective in golden age works

As depicted in The Maltese Falcon, the city of San Francisco is characterized by the Alcatraz foghorn
s dull moaning and night fog, thin, clammy and penetrant, (11 12) both of which contribute to creating
an ominous mood. The succinct wording makes it clear that San Francisco is a cold, dark city, and the
allusion to its famous prison serves to reinforce how prevalent crime is in its society. The city is not
only the place where the crimes occur, but an active participant in the novel: G.K. Chesterton
comments on how the eyes of a great city, like the eyes of a cat, begin to flame in the dark (385).
Responding to this cold, dark atmosphere, even Sam Spade s physical characteristics seem harsh and
sinister he is described as long and bony and had the look of a blond satan (3). A curious way to
describe the supposed protagonist of the novel. Because of the difficult world he lives in, Spade is
reluctant to trust others, yet he is fiercely loyal to his clients and his sense of professionalism. When
he discovers that Brigid killed his former partner, he must turn her in. He explains that when a man s
partner is killed he s supposed to do something about it. [...] I m a detective and expecting me to run

United States Involvement During The Korean War
June 25th, 1950 was the first military action taken during the Cold War. This was the start of the
Korean War when close to 750,000 North Korean soldiers crossed the 38th parallel and entered South
Korea. North Korea had been Communist and ruled by Ho Chi Minh while South Korea was not
communist and were being ruled by Ngo Dinh Diem, who was a very harsh, cruel leader who killed
many of his own people. However, the United States supported South Korea because they were
against communist and was trying to practice their policy of containment. Americans were scared that
the Korean War would begin to spread communism due to the Soviet Union s involvement. A goal of

Name three examples of how Hitchcock s shower sequence in the film Psycho is similar to Eisenstein
s Odessa Steps Sequence in Battleship Potemkin . Explain and cite examples.
The first similarity is between the shower scene in Psycho and Odessa step in Battleship Potemkin is
the use of montage. In the Odessa step scenes, Sergei employs montage when he juxtaposes the
images of the soldiers with those of the peasants as they are walking down the stairs. In the shower
sequence, the usage of montage is depicted with the combination of subsequent shots in a short period
to make the scene appear longer, controlled, subjective, and violent.

Feed R D or Farm It Out?
A) Actionable Key Issues and Consequences
1) Invest more in Research and Development department in RLK
a. If Lars decides to invest around $6 million more in research and development, it is highly risky as
the company s survival depends largely on the success of the launch of Ray s new product into the
market.
b. Since customers associate RLK with high end audio video design, pumping money into R D would
increase their brand equity as well as to live up to consumers expectations of their highly innovative
products.
c. However, RLK s competitors are downsizing and outsourcing R D and exploiting on the cost
advantages. If RLK decides to invest more money into R D and should the new product stall on
launch, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There will be a huge cost advantage for RLK from the start and hence this reduces risk that the
company will face should the product fail to meet market demands. As there are time differences,
distance and other factors to consider, the lack of interaction between the teams may cause friction
between them and thus create a big problem for RLK.
There is a big cultural difference between Ray s R D team and Inova. This may cause both teams to be
uncooperative and show a lack of enthusiasm in handling this project.
Besides, RLK s brand equity may be at risk by outsourcing as the consumers expectation of RLK is
that their products are designed and produced in the United States.
3. Hire a few more software engineer talents to strengthen RLK s long term in house capabilities and
transfer a few of his R D leaders to
Gurgaon for training. Having more software talents in RLK will satisfy Ray s request and at the same
time, strengthening the R D department s ability to meet long term obligations
By going overseas, the engineers can help to facilitate communication between both teams and
monitor things over at Inova s side. Ray may still be unhappy with the thought of collaborating with
Inova even if Lars grants his request of expanding the R D department in RLK.
RLK may suffer losses if the partnership with Inova turns sour and the Intellectual property remains
with Inova.

Eliza Haywood Fantomina
Literature Response to Fantomina by (Eliza Haywood) The Age of Enlightenment is a very vital part
in human history. This time period was one of a new found understanding. Many women accepted
society for what it was and depended on men for guidance. Some would say a person who isn t
enlightened has characteristics of a child. Most men had the freedom to do as they pleased. Eliza
Haywood shows many hardships faced by women during this time period. In the story Fantomina she
battles the stereotype of women being dependent, A young lady of distinguished birth, beauty, wit, and
spirit (Haywood, 569). She showed that not only men could become Enlightened, women could also
be Enlightened. This is a true display of female authority. In every

Aristophanes was born presumably around 449 B.C. and died somewhere around 386 to 380 B.C. He
wrote and producing his first comedy, The Banqueters, in 428 at the showpiece festival in the City of
Dionysia. The following year Aristophanes won first prize with his play The Babylonians. This
production however caused charges to be brought upon him by the politician Cleon for smearing the
Athenian people and state. In all, Aristophanes was brought on charges twice, the second time for his
play The Knights in which he again attacked the politician Cleon. In 405 Aristophanes was however
publicly honored and crowned for promoting Athenian unity in his play The Frogs. Throughout his life

In his defense, Dikaipolis blames not Athens for the war, but its pompous leaders and lying politicians,
It was some Athenians who started it some Athenians, mind you, not Athens, remember that, not the
City, but a bunch of good for nothing individuals, worthless counterfeit foreigners, bad coin through
and through (The Acharnians, line 515 519). Lamachus, a general of the army, is brought into the play
and mocked by Dikaipolis for collecting coin from the war, and only going on paid missions. Nothing
s tolerable to you, unless you re drawing pay for it (The Acharnians, line 619). Dikaipolis also names
off other notable elected officials who receive money from various aspects of the war. Lamachus then
proclaims that I shall never stop making war on the Peloponnesians (The Acharnians, line 620 621).
Dikaipolis mocks Lamachus once more by opening a market of free trade, except with Lamachus who
is denied entry. Aristophanes, who closely resembles the character of Dikaipolis, rumored to have
actually played the character, is pointing out the flaws that lay within Athenian society. The City itself
may have not started the war, but the great politicians and generals did so out of their own greed.
Freedom of speech, denied to Dikaipolis in the beginning of the play by the Assembly represents the
denied feeling of the masses towards the war, which are drowned out by the war party of Cleon and
corrupt officials. The play ends with a side by side duet

James Baldwin Notes Of A Native Son Summary
Journal 1
James Baldwin s Notes of a Native Son
As I began reading James Baldwins passage, Notes of a Native son , I was immediately filled with
emotion. He began his very first sentence by stating that his father had died. I started to imagine to
myself, what it would be like if I was Baldwin. I could not imagine what I would do if I lost my father
today. He is my hero. I have some previous knowledge of the Harlem riots because I did a project on
them when I was a junior, but reading Baldwin s first hand experience opened my eyes even further. I
sympathized most with Baldwin when he said that he hardly ever talked to his father before he died.
His father was a mean and scary man. I am so thankful for my dad. He is always there for me and
supports me in all that I do. I talk to him every single day and could not imagine it any other way. In
2009, my uncle committed suicide. It wasn t until after he died that I realized how rarely we actually
talked. I regret that almost every day. Death is a painful eye opener. I really liked the way Baldwin
went into detail describing his father and who he truly was. He explained the way his father treated
others and why he was the way he was. It was because of that detail, that I was able to empathize and
understand why Baldwin resented his father. I would have felt the same way if I would have grown up
with a father like his. It was truly disheartening to read about his father s illness. It completely took
over his body, mentally and

Comparing T. R. Tolkien s Negative And Positive Liberty
Tolkien s Negative and Positive Liberty
In today s world, people, especially politicians, talk about liberty but they do not mean precisely the
same. Liberty and freedom should be treated as the same thing. The reason attributed to this assertion
is that the words liberty and freedom come from old English and old French respectively, and they
both have the same meaning, which is being unconstrained. The problem with unconstrained is that
the natural world, including rocks, gravity, and weather, limit man s desires and power. However, man
does not feel that nature oppresses, hurts, or bind him since it is what it is and he can use it as he
wishes to. Also, man does not feel that the natural world oppresses him since his body is part of it. ...

Since a person to be regarded as free must be in a position to act unobstructed by others, it follows
then that when others prevents him or her from doing what he or she could otherwise do, then it can be
asserted that the person is to that degree unfree. A negative liberty is characterized by the absence of
coercion and enslavement. Berlin highlights that the wider the range of non interference, the greater
the freedom. He also holds that there is a great need to have a divide between the public and the
private sectors since for purposes of pursuing the human good, it is necessary to have a minimum
range of personal freedom. In other terms, there are some limits put to freedom so that interests of
other values can be protected. Precisely, freedom is subjected to some limits so that the powerful can
be prevented from depriving the weak off their

  • 3. Gmo Agribusy Agribusiness and large scale farming have seen their fair share of both critics and supporters, especially today, as the internet has become an unlimited source of information and biased articles. Throughout the last few decades, technologies in the farming industry have advanced immensely as the need for more food faster has increased, but some still question the safety and trustworthiness of genetically modified organisms, also known as GMOs, while others find these technological advances necessary to feed our endlessly increasing population. By far the more popular view of agribusiness and the large scale farming is the critical, anti GMO point of view. As Mary Jalonick (2014) writes on the issue of genetically modified foods, through social media and internet access, many people have come to form concerns over ... Michael Pollan (2006) writes, Before Haber s invention, the sheer amount of life earth could support the size of crops and therefore the number of human bodies was limited by the amount of nitrogen that bacteria and lightning could fix, he writes. By 1900, Europeans scientists had recognized that unless a way was found to augment this naturally occurring nitrogen, the growth of the human population would soon grind to a very painful halt (p. 2). Genetic modifications of our foods had to be made in order to sustain the rate at which our population was growing. Agribusiness focusses on the advancement of technology in order to produce more food at a more efficient pace. Donald Barlett and James Steele (2008) write, Monsanto developed G.M. seeds that would resist its own herbicide, Roundup, offering farmers a convenient way to spray fields with weed killer without affecting crops. Convenience is key in agribusiness as it allows farmers to produce more, which is necessary to keep up with population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Jacob, The, And Jacob Let us commence a journey into the much travelled topic of Jacob wrestling with God. Jacob portrays deceitful characteristics throughout Genesis; Jacob gets his name from his twin brother Esau. When Jacob brother of Esau was born, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau s heel; so he was named Jacob (Gen. 25.26). Part of the reason Jacob is who he is because of his brother Esau. Esau and Jacob were more than just the typical brothers. Jacob hated Esau. It was all a competition between them. Esau was born the hunter and Jacob did just enough to get by. They are the sons of Isaac. Jacob had a past of struggling with God almost as if he was seeking to fulfill his own destiny all on his own. Jacob had always been trying to seek a life that didn t involve God. The wrestling with God plays a big part in his overall character. This is true because, when Jacob wrestles with God he comes to him. Jacob came to God because he realized that he couldn t choose his own destiny and get there with out God. While he was wresting with God, If the wrestler is unable to overcome Jacob spiritually, it is because Jacob is not willing to yield. Only when the man threatens to go without offering assurances of God s help does Jacob show his willingness to negotiate in the critical issues. (Walton 605). Jacob so desperately wants God, he is clinging to him. Although, he is very stubborn before he submits himself to God he wants a blessing from him, Jacob s willingness to submit ... Majority of the time the government doesn t provide the state government with enough money. These money problems are bad, but they re not the only damage that places face after being hit with a natural disaster. Physiological damage is just and devastating. The 2010 and 2011 Queensland floods are a good example of the damage that places and people can face. 78% of Queensland was declared as a disaster zone and it was said that 3 quarters of the state was affected. • 6. Jodi Picoult s Nineteen Minutes For the most part, I enjoyed Nineteen Minutes. It was an extremely emotional novel about a teen boy that killed ten people in his high school. Describing the school shooting was not the book s main idea, the real purpose was to explain the events leading up to and the events after the shooting. In my opinion, Jodi Picoult started the book out beautifully when she described how long the school shooting was by relating it to basic everyday things that most people could relate to. Most of Nineteen Minutes took place after the shooting, when the community was trying to recover and rebuild trust after the horrific deed of Peter Houghton. Honestly, at first I was shocked because I couldn t understand why Jodi Picoult kept backing up Peter and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Environment And The Culture Of A Country The environment and the culture of another country can greatly affect a business that is operating internationally in many ways. Since every country has its own culture and values that differ from country to country, it will affect any business that is attempting to expand internationally, as there won t only be one culture that ought to be considered before expanding internationally, but quite a few, and also what might be considered as acceptable in one country, it may not be in another. Every country has environmental factors that affect it, factors that include political, economic, social, and technological. The political factors will affect any businesses that will be trying to expand internationally, as they mainly revolve around the legislations that apply in that country. In the chance that a country prohibits a business from making more than 35% gas emissions, the business that is operating in that country will have to abide to that. Other political factors that the business will have to abide is the way that the country operates with the employment. A business cannot treat the employees of that country working for them to suit their needs, but they will have to consider how the country operates politically. Every country will have their consumer rights, environmental issues and government taxes and subsidies which will all need to be taken into account, and if the businesses do not abide then they can get heavily fined. The economic factors that they will have to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Reoccurring Themes In The Miller s Tale In Chaucer s, The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer uses many aspects of one tale and incorporates it into another using many reoccurring themes. Many characters go through similar circumstances as Chaucer uses these themes to help each tale parallel another. For example, the Wife of Bath s Tale and The Nun s Priests Tale, uses the theme of textual evidence as a basis of reasoning of men to overpower women. The two tales that parallel each other the most are The Miller s Tale and The Summoner s Tale. Nicholas and Absolon of the Miller s Tale act immoral in many ways which the Friar in the Summoner s tale seems to exhibit. The theme of immoral characters becomes quite disturbing when people who claimed to be devoted to the Lord are partaking in such dishonorable acts. Dishonorable acts such as their treatment of women show how they neglect their priesthood and are not truly men of God. The priests within the Miller and Summoner s Tales disregard their vows of chastity and pursue women in order to fulfill their desires of sex. Absolon, the incense swinger at the church vows for the love a young married women, Alison. Absolon is fully aware of Alison s marriage, but is still very persistent in his attempts to try and woo her. One of his schemes to make Alison think fondly of him involved him sending her, honey wine, mead and spiced.....and as she [lived] in town, he [proffered] cash (The Millers Tale 88). With his expensive gifts of food and cash leads readers to believe that he is breaking another vow, poverty. His lust for this one woman drives him to spend essentially the church s money since priests are supposed to take vows of poverty and refrain from living gluttonously. His desires for Alison portray him as a clear contrast to what priests are expected to act like and in a sense, morally corrupt. The article focuses on these specific groups: The Bully, The Workaholic, The Jellyfish, The Perfectionist, and The Aloof Boss. The topic of this essay will be that of the Perfectionist Boss. The Perfectionist Boss is described by Nancy Ahlrich, a college graduate, as someone who would appear over her shoulder and inspect her work. She states, I felt belittled by his lack of confidence in me (99). In this article we learn that the Perfectionist Boss can be nit picking, discouraging and someone who needs to find something to worry about , as stated by Leonard Felder. (99). The first point I want to focus on is what a Perfectionist Boss does. As a former store manager, with Northern Reflections/Northern Getaway, the first Washington combination women s and children s clothing store, I was the Perfectionist Boss. In the short story, Marigolds by Eugenia Collier, the main character, Lizabeth, changes from a childish girl to a mature young adult when she realizes the pain she brought to Mrs. Lottie when her marigolds were destroyed. Her repressed feelings from her father s breakdown, the hopeless of her financial standing, and her mind s confliction between immaturity and maturity causes her to commit her last act of childhood, which was ruining Miss Lottie s marigolds. Seeing her strong father cry in the middle of the night because of the shame he felt in not being able to support his family influenced Lizabeth to destroy the marigolds in Miss Lottie s yard. When Lizabeth overhears her father complain to her mother, Lizabeth feels that before her father was strong like a rock and her mom was fragile, now everything has changed and her dad is broken into pieces. The man of the household is breaking down, and does not know where he stands anymore nor does Elizabeth. The world had lost its boundary lines. My mother, who was small and soft, was now the strength of the family; my father, who was the rock on which the family had been built, was sobbing like the tiniest child. Everything was out of tune, like a broken accordion (20). When Elizabeth realizes that her father cannot support her family devastates her and Elizabeth is broken by that realization. She does not have a stable set of parents who can even rely on each other or themselves, leaving her to feel lost and hopeless. Elizabeth becomes insecure by the fact of her father crying. When she realizes she cannot stand anymore confusion in her family, she goes to wake her brother up and then vents out her angst on the marigolds and this also shows some immatureness in Elizabeth. He went to Columbia to study a group of people that was believed to be lost people of the Amazonians. The question that has been brought up for this paper is whether or not Wade Davis is a good ethnographer? Most people would probably bring up that he only does ethnography for the chance to use drugs. I won t bring that up but the stuff that I saw in the movie, Light at the Edge of the Earth. However when an accident occurs, and company production and sales are at stake, many overlook operational best practices in business ethics. Today, companies are greatly impacted by societies evolvultion toward a good place for everyone diverse in culture, religion, and socioeconomic background. This trajectory drives social changes, activists, and theorists who believe attaining the good is worth pursuing and has no boundaries. As Aristotle noted, the end goals of political and individual well being are justice and happiness (Collins 2015). In examining the Trouble in the Truss Construction Shop case study, a pragmatic approach was used to ethically formulate possible remedies to the company s issue with employee safety. Explanation of the problem and viewpoints One week ago, John Craftsman, a company employee severely injured his hand while pushing a piece of wood through a table saw during his shift at the Truss Construction Shop. Mr. Craftsman is the third accident in the current quarter that has workers in the shop upset and claiming unsafe working conditions. • 14. Essay on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Abstract The wrist is surrounded by a band of fibrous tissue, which normally functions as a support for the joint. The tight space between this fibrous band and the wrist bone is called the carpal tunnel (The Stay Well Company, 1999). The median nerve passes through the carpal tunnel to receive sensations from the thumb, index, and middle fingers of the hand. Any condition that causes swelling or a change in position of the tissue within the carpal tunnel can squeeze and irritate the median nerve, which causes tingling and numbness of the thumb, index, and the middle fingers, a condition known as carpal tunnel syndrome (Nidus Information Systems, 2001). These bones and this ligament form a circle Carpal Tunnel Syndrome 5 from which tendons and major nerves travel. This complete circle is called the Carpal Tunnel, hence the name of this disease Carpal Tunnel Syndrome . Nine tiny but tough tendons, each in its lubricating lining or sheath, slide back and forth through the tunnel as the muscles of the hand and fingers move. These tendons are called the Flexor tendons; these tendons are the structures that let you bend your fingers, or flex, your fingers. They are long smooth cords that arise in the muscles of the forearm and end on the fingers. They work like a bicycle brake cable to flex your fingers, sliding in and out as the fingers bend and straighten. • 15. Pilots Are No Easy Task Of Being Self Centered Or Having A... A lot of airplane pilots get the title of being self centered or having a big ego because they are misunderstood. Pilots are often thought to have big egos because they can operate a very difficult powered flying vehicles and that they are above everyone else because they are believed to be smarter than everyone else. Tolkien s Negative And Positive Liberty Tolkien s Negative and Positive Liberty In today s world, people, especially politicians, talk about liberty but they do not mean precisely the same.
