In The Dark Side Of Science Book Review
In The Dark Side of science by Heather E. Douglas that published in the November
(2011) issue of The Scientist, promotes the use of forethought on studies done by
scientists. Dr. Douglas focuses on the great need for the studies done to include the
negative outcome on life vs just the positive. In a closer reading Dr. Douglas is
humanizing the situation to connect with scientists explaining why we needto take
responsibility for our actions.
Dr. Douglas feels it is in the scientist of who discovers the work are responsible for
future uses. She goes to talk about how gene science is important and has done great
things to advance humanity. She also states that is it not perfect as a result of there
being people that will always do harm; Dr. Douglas says, Scientist are responsible for
both the impacts they intend and any of the impacts they do not intend, if they are
readily foreseeable in specific detail. Here, the author is calling out to the scientist
that it is up to them to prevent their work from causing harm. She does not expect the
responsibility on just the scientist, she later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Douglas s audience being the Scientist world. The dead giveaway for me is when
the author says, how to create other pathogenic, tailored organism. The words
pathogenic, as well as, organism. Both are not words that the average American
uses and I m sure majority does not even know what they are. The only time I hear
those words is in a doctor s office. Another is where she goes deeper into the details
of knowledge of how to generate by providing particular and accurate DNA
sequences with which scientist develop ways to generate sequences of base pairs.

Nuclear Force Research Papers
Nuclear forces have been around the human race since the beginning of time, though
it was not until recently that people began to understand it. Nuclear decay has
helped scientists discover how long unstable isotopes maintain their unstable state
before becoming a more stable isotope. The study of nuclear chemistry has given
people in the medical field powerful tools to combat feared illnesses such as cancer.
Nuclear forces have also provided an alternative energy source to coal and natural gas.
The field of nuclear chemistry encompasses many aspects including nuclear decay,
radioactive elements in medicine, and nuclear energy. Alpha, beta, gamma to many
people those three words are the first three letters of the Greek alphabet, though...

Nuclear medicine however has made it possible to treat cancer. One of the forms
of cancer treatments that involve radioactive materials is radiation therapy.
Radiation therapy utilizes X and gamma rays to target and kill the cancer cells.
Radiation therapy kills cancer cells by damaging their DNA. Radiation can either
damage the DNA directly or create charged particles in cells that in turn damage the
DNA. ( Radiation Therapy for Cancer ) Radiation therapy affects only the selected
area of treatment, whereas other treatments such as chemo therapy affects the entire
body. Radiation therapy can be administered two different ways. The first method
of administration is internally. Radiation is injected directly into the blood stream
where it travels to the cancerous area. The other method of administering radiation
therapy is externally. Many types of external beam radiation therapy are delivered
using a machine called a linear accelerator (also called a LINAC). A LINAC uses
electricity to form a stream of fast moving subatomic particles. This creates high
energy radiation that may be used to treat cancer. ( Radiation Therapy for

Daniel O Connell s Speech Analysis
This text is a political speech that Daniel O`Connell, one of the fathers of the Irish
Republic, gave at the House of Commons in London in 1836. The aim of O Connell
s speech was to get equal justice for the Irish people as members of the British
Crown, and in the same way that by that time the Scottish, English and Welsh people
already had. The majority of the Parliament s members were protestant and reluctant
to give Irish Catholics more rights than they already had.
As the time O`Connell spoke to the Parliament about the equal justice, he had
already become a member of this chamber several years ago and was successful in
getting more reforms for the Irish cause. Ireland had a parliament since the year 1297
but the British crown abolished ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He tries it using different verbs like ...will you, can you, refuse you... and trying to
reach them in their quality as well educated and wise men. He mentions the year
1825 in which the Irish people also tried to get from the Treasury Bench emancipation
and they did not get it. But he appeals emotionally to them affirming that ...I am the
living representative of those hopes... of reform.
O Connell s more emotional tone of the last paragraph means to show the
Parliament his love for his country Ireland and its unjust situation. He personifies
his country by seeing himself as its friend, servant, stave ... and also as the voice of
its sentiments, but above all as the voice of all the Irish people. Once again he
repeats what he wants, justice: ... I ask you only for justice . ... .
He never leaves an amiable tone during the whole speech and does not care about
the taunts as Irishman and Papist that he can get from the members of the House. He
ends but the speech very firmly and once again with the aim to get equal justice, with
the words ... I demand, I respectfully insist: on equal justice for Ireland, on the same
principle by it has been administrated to Scotland and England. I will not take less.
Refuse me that if you can

Furthermore, another example is when Chris s former co worker at McDonalds
talks about Chris s time as an employee when he says, He always worked at the
same slow pace, even during the lunch rush, no matter how much you got on him
(40). This quote describes Chris s work ethic while he worked at McDonalds,
which is very surprising considering past reviews about him. However, he did not
work very hard and did not to seem to care one bit about his job at McDonalds
because his focus was all on Alaska. Chris s arrogance is shown in this quote
because he has given up on society. He just doesn t care anymore and all he wants
to do is go to Alaska. He is completely ignoring the fact that people are living normal
lives and that not everything is about his adventure. Also, Chris is being very
selfish because people that are actually a part of society who need things, but he is
ignoring everybody that he does not associate with. That works when you are in
the wild with no responsibility but in the real world, Chris needed have a sense of
urgency. He was ignorant toward society because he does not think and function
like everyone else that he was around. Since Chris didn t fit into society he decided
to run away from everything. Krakauer message is present because Chris couldn t
fit into society because he can t handle responsibility. He could not fit into society
and Chris was so ignorant toward society, so he just left the whole thing behind to go
start a new life.

The book is actually made up of two parts, one being the story and the other being
some facts on cadmium poisoning. The first part which is the fictitious part of the
book is a science fiction story, which toys with the idea of aliens incorporating
theories from the internet such as ancient civilizations on mars, the appearance of
aliens on Roosevelt, the mystery of Area 51 among other themes. The story focuses
on an unlikely allegiance between a couple of engineers, a statistician, a medical
doctor and some aliens just for fun. Although the characters differ widely their
environments are similar. The author tackles issues such as exploitation, indomitable
foes and environmental conservation. The story is bound to keep you interested even
though it starts slow, full of twists and turns guaranteed to keep you hooked. ... Show

Suffering in Buddhism and Hinduism
The concept that all life is suffering directly to the Hindu and Buddhist teachings have
a lot in common, but they are two different religions that have different belies and
teachings for their religion. They both use the same word dukkha in order to describe
their way of suffering, but their meaning of suffering has a small difference.
When it comes to Buddhism you are born into suffering and that your task is to find
a solution for serving. In Buddhism dukkha as it is described by the Four Noble

Hinduism suffering is just a part of life and so which means that suffering is natural
to the Hindu religion. For example in Hinduism dukkha means that physical, mental
and emotional instability and afflictions arise from the dualities and modifications of
the mind and body. Hinduism has its Caste System where it gives their people orders
of how to live their life.
The Caste System has four different types of groups where the groups have
different meanings and people don t get to choose which type of group they want,
because they are born into it. This system had a lot of people suffering, because
they didn t have any freedom to do what they want or be what they wanted.
Brahmins belong to the highest caste. They are priests and scholars. Kshatryas are
soldiers and warriors. Vaisyas are merchants and professionals. Sudras are the lowest
cast. They are labors and
The Civil War, By Harriet Beecher Stowe
Albert Einstein once said, You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you
have to play better than anyone else. Honestly, what quote represents General
Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard better than that? It could be said that
Beauregard, with his quick wit and tremendous skill, was destined to play a vital
role in the Civil War. Decades of tension and rivalry between the North and the
South led to the five year war between the states, more commonly known as the
Civil War. No one knows for certain what the true cause for war was; some people
claim it was slavery; some people insist it was state s rights. The main issues
included the South s dwindling political power, state s rights, expansion of slavery

The five year war resulted in over 360,000 Union deaths and over 260,000
Confederate deaths, with gruesome and bloody skirmishes and battles such as the
Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest single day of the war, and the Battle of
Gettysburg, the bloodiest battle of the war . The war ended in a Union victory after
General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox
Courthouse on April 9, 1865 (historynet). But how did General Beauregard affect the
Civil War? To summarize, Beauregard played a key role in the Battle of Fort Sumter,
the First Battle of Bull Run, and was an excellent militant. Pierre Gustave Toutant
Beauregard was born on May 28, 1818, into a well respected Creole family. He was
raised on a sugarcane plantation in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, which is just
outside of New Orleans. Beauregard attended school in New York City, but in 1834
he was appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was
popular, with nicknames such as Little Creole and Little Napoleon, and finished
second in his class when he graduated in 1863 (history). Beauregard married Marie
Antoinette Laure VillerГ© in 1841, and they had three children, Rene, Henri, and
Laure before she died in childbirth on March 21, 1850 (findagrave). He was an
William Shakespeare s Hamlet And King Lear
American literary critic Harold Bloom, known for his love of Shakespeare said,
Shakespeare is universal... he has hidden himself behind all of these extraordinary
men and women. Shakespeare is able to connect with many who encounter his work
by creating a range of characters such as heroes in the form of Hamletor villains in
that of Claudius. Playwright William Shakespeares Hamlet and King Lear
demonstrate the manipulation of family to achieve one s ends. Personal gain
through family is a significant contributing factor to both of these tragedies. Their
gifts of language and its delivery is a clear example as well as these villains having
no qualms about ignoring morals, and betraying their own blood. Despite the tragic
endings, there is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the same time, he tries to establish his role as a father figure to Hamlet while
addressing the Danish Court, and informing them of his marriage to his brother s
widow. Tis unmanly grief/ It shows a will most incorrect to heaven/ A heart
unfortified, a mind impatient/ ... And with no less nobility of love/ Than that which
dearest father bears his son (Hamlet 1.2.94 96, 110 111). Claudius calls Hamlet s
grieving unmanly and urges him to move on, because death is only natural.
Moreover, he insultingly claims to feel the most honourable love that a father can
have for his son.
In comparison, the main plot in King Lear starts to develop quickly from the
beginning when Lear holds a contest for his daughters. He claims that whichever
one of them loves him the most will receive the biggest piece of the kingdom upon
his retirement. Regan and Goneril, seizing an opportunity for power, are quick to
flatter their father with the empty words they know he is seeking. I love you more
than word can wield the matter;/ Dearer than eyesight, space and liberty;/ ...
Beyond all manner of so much I love you (King Lear 1.1.56 57, 62). Goneril
immediately catches on telling her father that words alone can never express her
love. She says that she loves him more than those comparisons she has made. Not to
be outdone, Regan has her chance at claiming that her love for Lear is greater than
that of her
Disney s Return On Equity Essay
Over the years Disney, continues to evolve with each generation, able to quickly
and swiftly adapt to meet the needs of their customers. Disney believes that their,
willingness to challenge the status quo and embrace change is one of our greatest
strengths, especially in a media market rapidly transforming with each new
technology or consumer trend, (Disney 2015 Annual Report). An example of this
is the recent craze for superhero movies. Once this high tech trend of movies hit
the market, Disney quickly began to produce the Marvel superhero movies to
meet the demand. Disney s product innovation capabilities allow them to
constantly be in the lead of each trend that changes within the market. Ratio
Analysis First, we will analyze the profitability ratios. Disney s return on equity
was 21.39% while Viacom s was 36.8%. This ratio serves as a warning sign on
investing in Disney s stock as Viacom is doing a better job at investing their
shareholder s money. Next, Disney s return on assets was 16.5% and Viacom s
was 8.91%. This favorable ratio to Disney is due to their valuable customer
experience, which creates a higher net income. Disney had a financial leverage of
4.89% while Viacom s was 27.89%. Once again, this favorable ratio to Disney can
be explained by their large amount and effective utilization of assets, allowing them
to rely less on financing through debt. We believe Disney s ability to create an
experience is conducive to return visits and repeated
The Mountains Are Known For Cutting Through The
Landscape...
The mountains are known for cutting through the landscape like glaciers. The
Kancamagus Highway, or The Fearless One cuts through Lincoln, New Hampshire
to Conway, New Hampshire. Rich in history as well winding roads, and mammoth
mountains are often traveled by the fearless, and adventurous traveler. For some, the
stumble upon this great beauty is minute and not appreciated, but for others the
venture is a state of mind and continues to inspire long after the visit concluded.
The Kancamagus Highway evokes the emotion of nostalgia. Entering the area I
first noticed the mountains, covered in rugs of green, gold, ember red, and burning
orange trees. The mountains were the spines of the land, holding together the whole
landscape. Off to a distance shining white pyramids could be seen. The tops of the
mountains soared up to the sky and to the heavens as to kiss the stars with the cold
peaks. I was just a quiet, minute observer of there glorious range. They stood ghost
like, and the only thing bigger then these slumbering giants was my gaze when
taking them in. As I turn from the outlook, leaving the booming mountains to my
back I notice the trees. Making up this glowing landscape were the burning leaves of
the treas. The canopy of color burned with high intensity. Each leaf was chattering in
the wind making up faint rustling, perhaps to keep the forests secret below. Nature s
sympathy was conducting itself is a small crescendo. The trees were tall enough to
pain the sky
What Are The Five Elements Of Arenas
Arenas: The most important choices that strategists make are those that involve
where or in what arenas, the business will be active. Decisions about a firm s arenas
may include its products, services, distribution channels, market segments,
geographic areas and technologies (The Five Elements Of Strategy). When
identifying the arenas it should be clear and specific (The Five Elements Of
Strategy). This clearly reveals to managers what the firm should and should not do in
the business (The Five Elements Of Strategy). In addition, because firms can contract
with outside parties for everything from employees to manufacturing services, the
choice of arenas can be fairly narrowly defined for some firms (The Five Elements Of
Strategy).
For example, as the largest US bicycle distributor, Pacific Cycle owns the Schwinn,
and GT brands and sells its bikes through big box retail outlets and independent
dealers, as well as through independent agents in foreign markets (The Five
Elements Of Strategy). Furthermore, to these arena choices, Pacific Cycle has
outsourced the production of its products to Asian manufacturers (The Five Elements
Of Strategy) . This is vital in the sense that the strategy diamonds helps this firm to
be precise in regard to which activities it will engage itself and which ones it will ...

This brings us to discuss the second element of strategy differentiators (The Five
Elements Of Strategy). Differentiators are features and attributes of a company s

common dimensions, including image, customization, technical superiority, price,

Dry Wood Termites Essay
ability of dry wood termites to live in dry wood without outside moisture or contact
with the ground, however, makes them a definite menace in the regions where they
occur. Their destruction is not rapid, but they can thoroughly riddle timbers with their
tunnelling if allowed to work undisturbed for many years. Non subterranean termites
are often moved from structure to structure in infested items such as furniture (TC,
1996). 2.5.3Activities of termites Termites are widely dispersed throughout the
tropics as well as some temperate regions and they play vital ecological roles such
as nutrient cycling and ecosystem engineering (Kemabonta et al., 2014). Termites
construct shelter tubes, also known as earthen tubes or mud tubes that start from the
ground. These shelter tubes can be found on walls and other structures. Constructed
by termites during the night, a time of higher humidity, these tubes provide
protection to termites from potential predators, especially ants (Hadlington, 1996).
Shelter tubes also provide high humidity and darkness and allow workers to
collect food sources that cannot be accessed in any other way. These passageways
are made from soil and faeces and are normally brown in colour. The size of these
shelter tubes depends on the amount of food sources that are available. They range

Beetle Case Study
The New Beetle Question 1: Why was the current advertising campaign a success?
In 1993 Volkswagen had record low sales but by the end of 1997 the VW brand
had sold 137,885 cars. That was an increase of 178% from it s 1993 slump. It is
safe to say that the the 94 relaunch of VW on the American Market was a success.
The Drivers Wanted campaign, developed by Arnold Communications, I believe was
successful as a result of excellent market research and positioning. Arnold
Communications undertook extensive market research in order to understand the
modern VW buyer and their position in the industry. They set about collecting
primary data through extensive interviews, visiting 95 of the top VW dealers and

Round shapes conger up inviting, friendly images. They represent completeness,

phenomenon in the 60 s was seen as countercultural and that small is beautiful. These
values could still be leveraged in modern American society where there is a move to
standarize. The Beetle could still be counterculatural and used in the modern quest for
individuality. Question 3: How would you evaluate the different positioning options?
Hollensen 2007 states the third phase in the IMS model is the screening of the
markets. Following Arnold Communications research, VW had assessed and
developed their potential markets. Now was the time to select and screen the best of
the segment opportunities. VW had deduced that their two main target markets would
be 18 to 34 year olds and the baby boomers in the over 40 s range. Both of these
markets, much like the VW research showed similar persnality traits. However,
due to VW s lack of budget it was not possible to target both markets. VW had to
decide where to position the new Beetle. For the younger market, utilising the
successful Drivers Wanted campaign and therefore putting the Beetle under the VW
umberalla. Or for the baby boomers, by developing a seperate campaign to fully
utilise the nostalgic leverage and to use the Beetle as a Hero brand for VW. 18
The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho Analysis
Robert Frost, an American poet, wrote in his poem, The Road Not Taken, Two
roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by, And that has made
all the difference. Santiago of Paulo Coelho s The Alchemist has that split road,
two decisions: one that is unpredictable and one that is safe. If he makes the safe
and popular choice, he knows he will regret it and always wonder what would have
happened. If he makes the unpredictable choice, the one that is chosen less, he will
follow his heart, and find his treasure. Santiago decides, and is following his heart
through his journey to the Pyramids to find his treasure. In the novel, The Alchemist,
by Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns, Remember where your heart is, there you will find
your treasure. First, Santiago learns a valuable lesson about selfawareness. Next,
Santiago understands a new feeling he is experiencing. Last, Santiago unexpectedly
learns a new truth about his treasure.
To begin, Santiago learns a valuable lesson about self awareness. For example,
while Santiago is talking to King Melchizedek, he tells Santiago a story of a wise
man who gave a spoon with oil to a boy, and told him to walk around the palace.
The boy does, but does not see any of the wonderful things around him, yet when
he looks at those things, he drops the oil, Santiago learns the lesson from the story:
The secret of happiness is to see all of the marvels of the world, and never to forget
the drops of oil in the spoon (35).
Diagnosis Of An Informal Caregiver
During the stages Alzheimer s in which the resident is in need of care, but that care
is not too complex, it is most common to turn to an informal caregiver. According to
the 2016 Alzheimer s Disease Facts and Figures (2016), In 2015, caregivers of
people with Alzheimer s and other dementias provided an estimated 18.1 billion
hours of informal (that is, unpaid) assistance, a contribution to the nation valued at
$221.3 billion (p. 32). Informal caregivers are mainly daughters and spouses of the
residents. Females make up the majority of familymember caretakers, but it is
becoming more common for men to take on this role (Brodaty Donkin, 2009).
Roughly a third of the caretakers in the United States are over the age of sixty five
and the majority are married or are in long term relationships. It has also been found
that around 23% of caretakers for residents with dementia also have their own
children under age eighteen (Alzheimer s Association, 2016). This can increase the
level of stress that the caregiverfaces, as he or she is being stretched in different
directions.
Informal caregivers take on the role of caring for the resident for a number of
reasons. One of which includes the fact that they believe that they owe a debt of
gratitude to their loved ones. Other reasons include a feeling that it is what they
should do regardless of whether or not they want to or because they believe that it
will provide them with a feeling of fulfillment. Those who choose to take on

Essay On Robert Cormier
With much research, I found that the Chocolate War is one of the most censored
books in America. Robert Cormier caused much uproar with this book. As you
read the book, Cormier takes you on a journey that is filled with depth and
symbolism. Sadly, as it was first introduced , people didn t take the time to absorb
the beauty of the world through his eyes. This author s words crossed so many
avenues , that it bumped a few curves on the way. Much controversy was stirred up
but the author stood by his book .
The Chocolate Wars has also been criticized as needlessly vulgar and skewed toward
the worst of human nature . When a book such as this lands at number five on the list
of banned books in public schools and libraries, then it s obvious that the objections

What Is Kampog Glam Essay
Introduction of Kampong Glam
On 7 July 1989, the historic district of Kampong Glam was officiated as a
conservation area in Singapore.
Decades ago, Kampong Glam housed people from the Malay Peninsula, Java,
Sumatra, Celebes Islands, Riau and Southern Arabia which are mainly Muslim
immigrants and are positioned based largely on their prominence, social and
economic status. As time passes, Indian and Chinese immigrants began to reside in
the same area, making it a multiethnic community.
The Kampong Glam trail that I embarked on includes 12 main destinations, namely
the Malay Heritage Centre, Gedung Kuning, Masjid Sultan, Bussorah Street, Former
Chung Cheng School and Chong Pun Girls School, Madrasah Alsagoff Al Arabiah,
Madrasah Aljunied Al Islamiah, Malabar Muslim Jama ath Mosque, St John

accommodated Javanese migrants and made popular by the Javanese theatre and arts
performances is situated near the car park at Kandahar Street. (Kampong Glam: A

Although all of these might portrayed Kampong Glam as having a rich Malay

it is hard to even pinpoint that Kampong Glam is part of the cultural districts in
The Role Of Race In Modern Society
When looking at modern humans, it can be simple to cast ourselves in specific
groups based on gender, culture, customs, religion, geological location, social class,
political views, age and of course, race. We in society today use race as an
unnecessary separation, making race seem as if it is something that makes all of us
different. Regardless of your ethnic background, skin tone or country of origin, the
entire humanracefalls into one group that lives underneath one enormous umbrella of
variation.
Race is not a valid biological way to separate or differentiate modern humans based
on appearance or location in the world. All humans whether they live in California,
Argentina or Sydney, all share 99.9 percent identical genetic code, not to
Speech On Whippets
They say dogs are a man s best friend, some agree with this and others not so much.
There are those who are dog lovers and those who are not. I happen to be a dog lover

with health problems.
Whippets are domestic dogs and eat a lot of vegetables and dry dog food, they

1.Petronas Twin Towers
The Petronas Twin Towers dominate the sky scape in Kuala Lumpur. They are
magnificent pieces of architecture which tower over the rest of Kuala Lumpur and
are currently the second tallest buildings in the world, and the tallest twin towers in
the world. They were built in 1998 and have 88 floors and reach 452 meters into the

symbolises fullness and regeneration.
There is a viewing deck on the twin towers, the sky bridge which joins the 21st

My First Job At Dsw
Upon applying to my first job at DSW as a high school student, the only thought in
my mind was the ability to make my own money and spend it how I choose.
However, now as I am about to graduate, I have acquired more wisdom and
understanding when it comes to selecting a job for myself. Money is only part of the
equation to truly being satisfied with a job. The other parts of the equation include:
management, the team, challenges, and a company s values.
Management is key when it comes to applying for a job. Matter of fact it is so
important that I was advised by the mentors in my life to keep that in the forefront
of my mind when considering any job and/or internship. It is key for a manager to
provide regular feedback on my performance.

Investigation of in vitro and in vivo antifungal activity of different plant acetonic
extracts against fungal skin isolates
ABSTRACT
T he worldwide increase of multidrug resistance has impaired the current
antimicrobial therapy, warranting the search for other alternatives. This study
investigated the efficacy of using plant extracts; Lawsonia inermis L(Henna),
Glycyrrhiza glabra L(licorice) and Rosmarinus officinalis L (Rosemary) as antifungal
agents.Antifungal susceptibility test revealed that nystatin were mostly active against
tested clinical isolates. In vitro antifungal activity of the different plant extracts
against isolates showed that acetonic extract of licorice, had high antifungal activity.
In vivo study, topical application of licorice gave promising and excellent healing
response. We propose that the higher percentage of (GC MS) of 3 O Methyl d
glucose 29.1 %, most probably are the causes of its higher antifungal activity.

Fungal and bacterial skin infections are of public health concern as they can elicit
social, economic and public health problem (Maseleno and Hasan, 2013). Heavily
infected persons with visible lesions are often unconscious targets of social stigma
of rejection isolation because of their unslightly appearance. The cost of long term
diagnosis and treatment can be over bearing for low income individuals who make

proportions due to poor hygiene. It
Disadvantages Of Nissan Advertising
The well known brands of Nissan, BMW, and Abramet use their compelling platforms
to alert the public of the unsettling consequences of drinking and driving. The car
brands are commonly known among most people while Abramet is the Brazilian
Association of Traffic Medicine, all influential organizations. They present the
audience with straightforward results of driving while intoxicated. These brands
skillfully use their platforms to promote public safety.
The Nissan ad presents an average silver Nissan sedan with coke spelt out
underneath it. Next to it is the same car but, with a police decal and lights, with the
drink rum cola spelt out underneath it. The cars are put next to one another on a
plain white background so all the focus is on the cars and the drink names and the
Nissan logo in the corner. All the attention is on the cars and drinks and there is no
specific scenario being played out. Therefore, the audience can interpret it anyway
they choose. The can show that the person who drinks a rum cola will be pulled
over by the police which commonly leads to being arrested while the person who
drank a regular coke will be able to drive their car home with no issue. It can also
inform people that even just one rum cola can lead to a DUI. The ad certainly
appeals to Nissan drivers but, it can also affect any driver that views it. The ad
displayed the legal consequences of drunk driving. The importance of the ad was
more prevalent than the promotion of the car. The goal
The Temple Of Hatshepsut At Deir El Bahri
Ceremonies and rituals are integral parts of any civilization, both current and ancient;
among the ancient civilizations, Egypt is renowned for its religious societal rituals
and afterlife beliefs. From pharaohs and luxurious burials, to lavish processions;
ancient Egypt is among the most fascinating and curious cultures. Egyptian
architecture is also extremely interesting in terms of location, scale, purpose, and
potentially most important how Egyptian architecture can dictate movement through
the space.
The majority of ancient Egyptian structures studied by architectural historians and
planners alike, were erected to honor a pharaoh or as a grand tomb for their journey
through to the afterlife. Whether the structure was in the form of a temple, tomb or
statue, the ritual and spiritual influence is unquestionable. The location, scale, and
materials used to construct these monuments are all defining factors of how the space
is used and functions.
While there are several notable Egyptian temples, monuments, and tombs; this paper
will focus on the analysis and evaluation of the Mortuary Temple of Queen
Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahri, C. 1458 BC. First and foremost, it is important to
identify the historical figure who influenced this construction of this temple. Queen
Hatshepsut ascended to the throne of Egypt after her son s passing and was the first
and only female pharaoh in about 1473 BC; nearly a thousand years after the
construction of the Pyramids at Giza. The
Review of English Semester Essay
English 101 60 has taught me many things and has helped me grow and develop
my skills as a writer. It has taught me how to think more creatively and use clear
concrete details. In the beginning of the semester, our first writing assignment was a
narrative journal entry that focused on writing about an uninteresting moment from
your life and making it interesting. This was a challenging assignment because it
was a broad topic that allowed the writers to take it in any direction. I remember
thinking I had no idea what I am going to write about. Once I was able to narrow
down the ideas I started writingwhat a traumatic experience I had six years ago. This
was when I underwent the surgical procedure, to remove my gallbladder. My main

all of us meeting the length requirement because were all still in the beginning
stages of the assignment. The workshop group was a new experience for me
because I have never worked with that many person, this kind of overwhelmed me
because there was so many opinion on one paper. The groups weakness was, our
lack of organization. Fortunately, we were able to make this up with all of us
being very truthful towards each other and not sugarcoating the revisions we
suggested among our papers. We all accomplished the beginning stages of writing
our research papers and making sure everyone had their thesis there. Over the
semester I have been challenged and intrigued over and over by the content of this
course and the professor, who thought I could develop a fairly strong paper if it
was not for all my grammatical errors. It has been a very enlightening and
enthralling experience that has taught me a new way to write a paper. In high
school there was only one way to write and that was it. I think that this class is a
great way for students to think out of the box, rather than having to be stuck. It
allows them to write more freely about a subject, and I am very thankful for that. I
have learned many new skills and improved the skills I already
Causes Of Revolutions Of 1848
The period between 1750 1848 is called as the Age of revolution. This age mainly
includes revolutions such as American in 1765, French in 1789 and other
revolutions in Europe in 1848 that changed the world history. There were different
motives of rebellion, some people wanted to get their pristine values back while
other group were aimed to create a new system. Obviously, any event in history has
its cause and effects, that leaves one or another mark on the process taking place in
the world. The aim of this paper is to find what were the causes of these revolutions?

The famous thinkers such as Voltaire, Montesquieu and Rousseau, have changed the
minds of not only peasants but also well educated ones. As of 1848 1849, in several
countries in Europe, revolutions have started. They embraced France, Germany, the
Austrian Empire and Italy. Never before Europe had seen such a sharpening struggle.
Although in different countries intensity of the struggle was not the same, different
events unfolded, but the one was undoubtedly clear: the revolution got pan European
scale.
In the German, Italy and Austrian Empire revolutions happened because the feudal
system prevented further success of capitalist development, while in France, the
situation was different. The revolution of 1848 in France was spawned by the
development of the internal contradictions of capitalism. In conclusion, age of
revolutions is a shining example of the struggle of humanity for liberty and ideology.
The causes of these revolutions in some cases were diverse in some not. These
revolutions left the mark in the world history and changed
Formative Assessment Reflection
The assessment practices that I feel are most important in my school is the usage of
Common Core. It requires students to analyze, synthesize, apply and evaluate
information that is gained from reading (Afflerbach, 2015). I have seen firsthand the
positive effects of using Common Core especially in the ELA discipline. It allows
for higher order thinking skills versus the lower level questioning that the students
have been exposed to for so long.
Some assessment practices that I feel are in need of more emphasis in my school is
the understanding that reading is an active and complex process that understands
written text (Afflerbach, 2015). Also, seeing that there is a great need for using
formative assessments set off a red flag for me. At my school, we tend to focus on
beginning with the end in mind and focus more on summative assessments instead of
formative assessments. After reading Afflerbach s article, I noticed that formative
assessment focus more on determining where the student is and what they need next
in their instruction (Afflerbach, 2015). Upon reading the article, I ve come to realize
that formative assessment drives the next steps of instruction and provides the
teacher the means to understand where they are coming from in order to get them to
where they need to be.
Reflecting on my observations of my students, I feel that standardized testing has not
been proven to be in their best interest. Berliner states that no single indicator can
assess a child s
How Businesses Can Incorporate Csr Into Their Business
Model
Topic: Describe ways businesses can incorporate CSR into their business model.
Introduction:
Many large corporations are taking corporate social responsibility into account and
making it a part of their everyday schedule. Over the past decades, there have been
increasing concerns for general society that many businesses have little concern for
the consumer and they care nothing about the deteriorating social order. But these
days companies are encouraging employees to volunteer and make a difference in
surrounding communities. In this way they are supporting and improving the quality
of life and enhancing the vitality of the communities in which they operate. There are
many organizations that are encompassing CSR into their plan of action and also
they are making new policies that can be beneficial for society. There are so many
ways to incorporate corporate social responsibilities into business modules such as
health, education, environment and helping in natural disaster.
Corporate Social Responsibility is concerned with treating the stakeholders of a
company or institution ethically or in a responsible manner. That means treating key
stakeholders in a manner deemed acceptable according to international norms. Social
issues include economic and environmental responsibility. The wider aim of social
responsibility is to create higher and higher standards of living. CSR is a process to
achieve sustainable development in societies. CSR was once called social

Surrealism And Surrealism
Impressionism is an art movement originating in France which ran between the
1860s until the 1890s. Famous artists of the genre include Claude Monet and
Gustave Caillebotte. The movement is typically characterized by its sketch like
techniques and its use of bright vivid colors, giving the painting a bright look.
Impressionism s sketch like appearance allowed artists to paint the world
imperfectly as to demonstrate an impression of what it looks like, which is where
the name comes from. The tendency of impressionist artists was also to paint
shadows with a more colorful appeal by replacing the blacks and greys by colors.
As the form did not represent the reality of a landscape, it allowed artists to also
represent the optical effects of light and diverge from the mainstream norm of the
realism movement. Surrealism is an art movement which ran between the 1920s until
World War 2. Major artists of the movement include AndrГ© Breton, Salvador DalГ
,
RenГ© Magritte and Sigmund Freud whose work on human psychology has served
as major inspiration for the movement. Surrealism can be recognized by its attempt
to create an extremely fictional world and does not portray ours. Subjects in
surrealist paintings seem very out of place and would not appear in that landscape in
the real world. The practice of this movement draws heavily from Freud s research on
the nature of the human subconscious and attempts to draw a painting of the
surrealistic nature of dreams and human fantasy. The Pop
Why Is California High Speed Rail Bad
(FIRST DRAFT) California State Infrastructure Spending: High speed Rail a Bad Idea
The California High Speed Rail is a high speed rail system currently under
construction in California and is a bad idea for the state. During the November
election in 2008, Californians were asked to approve a $45 billion bullet train.
Proposition 1A passed, but just barely. Since then just about everything the voters
were promised in 2008 about the rail system has changed. With a $45 billion price
tag, and with far from an overwhelming mandate at 52% of the votes, this project is
far from being built. The first phase of the system could be completed by 2029,
provided that additional funds are obtained. Phase 2 (which has no timetable yet) was
originally planned to extend the system northerly in the Central Valley to the
Sacramento Valley Station in Sacramento, and southerly (through the Inland Empire)
to the San Diego International Airport in San Diego. That too has changed,
Sacramento and San Diego are now not even mentioned in future planning. ... Show

The system will now share tracks with commuter trains in the Bay Area and Los
Angeles. A far cry from the dedicated highspeed rail San Diego to Los Angeles to
the Bay Area and Sacramento that voters approved in 2008. Construction on the
initial 130 mile segment running from Merced to Bakersfield began in 2015 and is
expected to end in 2019, after which Amtrak s San Joaquin is proposed to first use
the High Speed Rail (HSR) tracks for faster conventional rail service until HSR trains
use the line to its full potential. The last thing California needs right now is to add
billions more in bond debt. Beside the fact there are other pressing infrastructure
needs in the state (the Oroville Dam for example), Californians simply cannot afford
it. There are other major reasons California shouldn t move forward on this particular
Cheating Is Becoming More Common As The Technological
Age...
Cheating has almost become a regular practice in high school as 75% of students
admitted to cheating at least once in high school (ETS) according to one survey.
Cheating in high school typically carries over to higher education where there is
more on the line for being caught and that will eventually carry over to when these
students enter the work force. Cheating for students is becoming more common as
the technological age advances, are students educated on what constitutes cheatings,
has cheating become more mainstream in the American educational system, and is
this a problem with students or the educationsystem itself? According to Webster
Merriam dictionary the word cheat in this situation constitutes as to break a rule or
law usually to gain an advantage at something (cheat), but many students don t feel
like they are actually doing a wrongful act by cheating on homework, test, or other
forms of schoolwork. Some students plagiarize with clear intent of disregarding the
rules but there is a slim few cases where students don t understand simply throwing a
portion of a paragraph don t count as citing that source or information. The educators
also aren t always concise on what is cheating in their curriculum until they have
caught two students red handed. The obvious cheating of looking over the person

The Pendulum Between Liberalism And Conservatism
It is no secret that the pendulum between liberalism and conservatism in the
Netherlands is on the dramatic backswing to the right. In all aspects of Dutch society,
once hailed for its extremely tolerant and liberal mindset, are slowly moving in the
other direction. With the growing power of the Christian Union in the Netherlands,
marijuana, prostitution, and now abortionare once again causes for concern. One
woman, ten years ago, had a vision. Her vision was to spread what she calls a basic
human right to parts of the world where this right is denied to millions of women
every year. Rebecca Gomperts has devoted her life to providing abortions and
abortion pills, as well as contraceptives, and Plan B pills to women in international
waters. She is the founder of Women on Waves, the controversial organization that
has been in action for ten years. Earlier this year, however, the Women on Waves has
been met with strong restrictions and scrutiny by the Dutch government. With strong
opposition, Women on Waves is currently docked until further notice, which has
lead to the question of what is the future of the abortion policy in Holland; the land
where it is supposedly very easy to obtain one. Dr. Rebecca Gomperts started out her
career as an abortion doctor in Amsterdam. Though to her the actual procedure was
rather boring, the rewards from liberating women from unwanted pregnancies were
enough to make her really enjoy such work. Later on in career, Gomperts became the

Valck and Hagener stated in An Introduction to Cinephilia, auteurisim a cinematic
practice set up due to the prominence of the film director emerges from passionate
attendance and critiques on films in Cahiers du Cin?ma, and further aims to
cultivate cinematic literacy among the audience (Valck and Hagener, 1999). Thus,
auteurist concerns can be summarised as appealing to the articulation and reception
of filmmakers? self reflexivity. David Bordwell has indicated in his analysis on
European art cinema that the stress of authorship covers the distinct style of art
cinema practices (Bordwell, 1979). In his essay, representative art films are
introduced as models conveying authorial marks, among which are Day for Night
(La Nuit Am?ricaine, Truffaut, 1973) and 8 ? (Fellini, 1963). In order to
demonstrate this, I will take in this chapter these two films together with Tout Va
Bien (Godard and Gorin, 1972) as illustration. Determined by Bordwell as adversary
to art cinema, the third reflexive work balances the discussion on the projection of
auteurism in meta cinema as an interrogating approach. All examples reflect the
process of filmmaking and embody or question the auteurist concerns on directors?
individuality and the uniqueness of cinema as an art. These concerns have been
stated in film critiques and have embraced post war European cinema. First coined by
Fran?ois Truffaut as
Analysis Of The Film Joan Of Arc
The movie, Joan of Arc, that stars Leelee Sobieski is about a 15th century teenage
girl hears voices from god who tells her what she needs to do. She ends up leading
the French forces against the English. Although Joan really did hear the voices,
this movie is not completely historically accurate. The first inaccurate part of the
movie is it shows Joan first hearing the voices in Church. Throughout the movie,
almost every scene has something inaccurate about it. The movie starts off in
1412 in the village of Domremy, which is the year and place Joan was born. The
village of Domremy was right in the war zone of France. This made is so all the
villagers would have to take cover and hide from the soldiers when they came to
attack and burn down their village and destroy it. One of the scenes that was
inaccurate was during the final assault on Les Tourelles. Joan ordered Glasdale to
be killed by archers after she said to him, I will send you to hell . This is not
historically accurate because it was not correct with the form of the real events
that happened. The real event that happened was Glasdale had drowned while
trying to escape from a burning drawbridge. The drawbridge collapsed from the
weight of all the men in armor and the horses. Glasdale and many other English
lords drowned and sank to the bottom. In real life, Joan would have never want to
send someone to hell . She was compassionate to her God (Archive). The original
Tv series of this movie had hardly mentioned the retrial that was done towards the
end of the war. There was mention of the support that was given to Joan from the
Church scholars at Poitiers. They did not mention the support that was also given to
her from the trial (Archive). In the movie, it shows how Charles VII betrayed Joan.
Although, there is no real evidence that Charles did so. In fact, there are many
documents that prove that he didn t. The group that put Joan on trial, which was the
pro English University of Paris, sent a letter to John of Luxemburg. They were
complaining that the people from John s faction were trying to do everything in their
power to save her by extraordinary means . This was also talked about in a entry at
the archives of Venetian merchants who
O Net Interest Profiler Research Paper

Analysis Of The Article Basic Writing Through The Back
Door
In her article, Basic Writing Through the Back Door: Community Engaged Courses
in the Rush to Credit Age, Oregon State University professor Cori Brewster reflects
on her experiences working with high school and college students in an accelerated
summer writing course for college credit. Brewster s reflection is pragmatic and
demonstrates the strengths and the weaknesses of the program. She also shares her
hopes for the future of similar programs and some suggestions for the improvement of
future of dual enrollment, early college, and other similar programs that are a part of
the rush to credit trend in secondary and postsecondary education. These features of
Brewster s writing show Brewster s careful consideration of her students and of the
trend toward underpreparedness that these expedited programs can cause for students
when the focus is on hurried matriculation or the numbers instead of students actual
needs. With a goal of providing better access to composition instruction for Oregon s
rural students in a limited time under restricting conditions, Brewster manages to
create a service learningproject that is meaningful for the students and the community.
The obstacles they encountered serve to give other teachers in similar programs and
other teachers of transitional students with the necessary insights to help make
developmental and basic writing programs better.

The Split Brain Procedure
Our brain is divided into two halves or hemispheres. The left hemisphere
specializes in language, words, understanding and reasoning while the right
hemisphere is associated with spatial awareness and creativity. Split brain is a
term used to describe the result when the corpus callosum connecting the two
hemispheres is severed either partially or completely. Before the proceeding with
the surgical procedure, the patient s head is either partially or completely shaven
in order to gain easier access to the scalp. Once they are under general anesthesia,
the surgeon makes an incision, which allows for a craniotomy to be performed. A
craniotomy is an operation that allows for the temporary removal of part of the
bone from the skull to expose the brain. For a partial callostomy, the anterior two
thirds is sectioned, but the posterior one third is sectioned as well for a complete
callostomy. After sectioning, the dura is closed and a portion of the cranium is
replaced.
The split brain procedure was primarily done in order to stop epileptic seizures.
Epileptic episodes can range from a short loss of consciousness to severely thrashing
arms and legs uncontrollably. Scientists and researchers are now aware of the fact
that seizures are caused by an abnormal discharge of electrical impulses throughout
the brain that interrupts normal brain patterns. They were also able to figure out that
severing the corpus callosum prevents the electrical discharge from dispersing
through the

Bible And The Lord s Prayer
I got very annoyed and was very disturbed when Moore discussed the ordination of
women in the Catholic Church; as well as the discussion about changing the words
of the Bible and the Lord s Prayer. First, Moore discusses feminist liberal
movements changing the wording of the Bible: Proffered gender neutral language,
substituting brothers and sisters for brothers, interpreting the pronoun He as the
proper noun God, and using Our Parent instead of Our Father in the Lord s Prayer
(Moore 143). The Lord s Prayer was given to us by Christ in the Gospel of Matthew
and the Gospel of Luke. To turn around and decide you don t like the wording so
you re going to change it is very disturbing to me. The prevalence of the idea of
genderneutral
Essay On Student Loan Crisis
The student loan crisis is worse than ever and more people are leaving college
thousands of dollars in debt before they even have a job or any type of income.
With the rising cost of college and living expenses, people are taking out more
student loans for higher amounts, leaving more people in an undesirable amount of
debtand essentially trapping them. There s currently no way to get rid of federal
student debt other than paying off the loans. (Quinton, Sophie, why you might be
paying student loans till you retire). Because student loans are not like other loans
they will not disappear if you declare bankruptcy, so the borrower is forced to pay
them back even if it means you cannot afford to do so. There is not just one thing that
is causing the student loancrisis this is a combination of many things that are being
overlooked or ignored. We need to look into the reasoning to determine why this is
happening, what problems it is causing and then come up with a solution that can
stop the problem. Student loans are a great tool to use if you need financial help
for college, but one must be careful and consider the consequences and understand
what a student loan is and how to deal with them to make a responsible decision
about their financial future. Before we can go any further, we need to first define
what exactly a student loan is, and what student loans can entail. A student loan is
defined as A type of loan designed to help students pay for post secondary
education and the associated fees . Student loans are marvelous and a supportive
tool for college students, but people don t realize that everything they borrow
needs to be paid back with interest. Five years ago in 2012 71% of students
graduating four year colleges had student loans and the average indebtedness of a
college graduate was $29,400 . If you compare that to 1993 the average
indebtedness of a college graduate was $9,450 (Average Student Loan Debt, 1993
2012). In only 19 years there was a $19,950 dollar difference in the averages. Those
numbers do not include the interest that the student will have to pay back over time.
All of those factors are just a small part of what makes up student debt but it is good
to have a general
Employee Service Support Specialist At 3 Years As A...
Breonna has been with company for about 3 years as a customer service support
specialist. Her job is to file and assist with whatever else is needed by the customer
representatives. The organization Breonna works for is a large insurance company in
Arkansas, by the name of Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Breonna is the only customer service support specialist in her department. She
services three different teams alone. One day she notices that the three different
teams has their own way of documentation retention. Documentation is retained
through either paper or electric form. A couple of weeks ago, before this class, she
asked her supervisor Ms. Jeanette, why does each team store documentation in
different ways? Jeanette instructed Breonna to come up with a documentation
procedure so everyone in this department would be on the same page.
We are moving in a moderate pace towards a more technological world. Breonna
would like to come up with a few procedures on electric documenting retention of
incoming and outgoing paperwork. ABCBS has all the tools needed. The
representatives don t know how to use them. Breonna plans on creating step by step
instructions that are not currently in place in this area. Breonna think this project is
very feasible and will be a much needed update in a department where paper is the
most popular form of communication and storing information.

The overall purpose of this project is to determine a document control
Discussion Board Of Oral Digestion
I chose the oral cavity to describe for this discussion board. The oral cavity ingests,
chews, and swallows the food so that it may enter our bodies. The oral cavity is the
place where digestion begins. Before it goes anywhere in the body it has to enter
our mouths first so that it may be mechanically broken down with the help of our
teeth and saliva. Saliva contains digestive enzymes that help break down the food
particles so that it s easier for us to swallow. Hanging at the back of the throat is the
uvula which is there to serve for more than one purpose. The first purpose being it
has a role in speech production, and the second one being the gag reflex. The reflex is
stimulated when food enters the throat without swallowing. This prevents
The True Face of Unethical Humor
Following Chaucer s description of the Miller in the General Prologue, The Miller
s Tale reveals that the Miller is more complex than his appearance initially
suggests. Given its bawdy and humorous nature, the Miller s story consists of
events of cuckoldry, foolishness, and secrets (1720, 1718, and 1719). As the teller
of such a tale, the Miller would immediately be classified as a crude man, interested
only in the physical appeal of women. However, as the tale unfolds, it imparts the
Miller s unexpected empathy as he commiserates with Alison, who is trapped by the
norms of society. The Miller s story portrays not only the Miller s expected vulgar
and deceptive characteristics but also his surprisingly sympathetic nature.... Show

The Miller displays complete apathy for the norms of society through his satire of
the metaphysical Knight and clergyman. Furthermore, the Miller s bawdy nature
progressively worsens as he initially begins with his songs of prostitution and later
describes a woman s private areas, an action of atrocious audacity and low
thinking, but he asserts is noble (1718). Thus, in his bawdy rebellion, the Miller
solely focuses on his lewd tale, disregarding the norms of society. The Miller s
deceptive qualities influence the characters actions in his story. During his
pilgrimage with the Miller, Chaucer discovers the habits of the golden thumb
Miller and describes him as a fox (1712). The Miller would cheat people by
steal[ing] corn and charg[ing] for it three times (1712). The Miller s characters
also use guile as frequently as the Miller does. In their affair, both Nicholas and
Alison devise a plan to trick the jealous John. While speaking to John alone,
Nicholas warns him of a flood to come and states he must not waste words on the
wise; however, Nicholas tricks the so called wise carpenter and has intercourse with
John s wife after John falls asleep (1727). Furthermore, Absolom begs for a kiss
from Alison, but she beard[s] him, another instance of bawdy deceit (1730). Thus, the
Miller s disposition of treachery propels his characters in their misdemeanors,
exemplifying his immoral nature; however, every apple on the tree is not rotten.

Artevivo Gallery Analysis
Art galleries and museums are visual spaces used exclusively for an exhibition and
education of art. Galleries and museums are an essential part of our society as it
promotes cultural diversity and differences. The galleries and museums display art
to present the viewer an insight into a variety of cultures, backgrounds, and
communities. On the third Friday of every month, an event in Downtown
Brownsville called Noche de Arte takes place. Noche de Arte consists of 13 local
buildings and galleries that showcase artwork to support art and artists within the
community. Out of the 13 galleries, two artworks from Artevivo Gallery struck out
to me the most. Artevivo Gallery, which is located at 535 E 12th St, Brownsville,

Although La Rosa is a digital photograph, the viewer can still see that it is a mixed
media piece. While examining this exquisite piece in person, it is abstractly
profound by a technique of how everything is placed together by a collage type of
form. The way the emphasis is on the flower is quite beautiful that brings this
photograph together. The variation of colors, writing, and cut outs shows movement
in the piece, yet flows around the flower. The second piece that stood out the most to
me was also another photograph by Mari Ortiz called Loving the Architecture.
Architecture, especially in the downtown area, is antique yet interesting to look at.
This picture s medium required various techniques such as color correction, sizing,
cropping, viewing, and printing in a dark room. The color of this picture defines the
boldness and texture of the building in a naturalistic way. Although printing digitally
in a dark room prints the photograph in black and white, the way the shadows
captures depth and tones is absolutely

  • 2. In The Dark Side Of Science Book Review In The Dark Side of science by Heather E. Douglas that published in the November (2011) issue of The Scientist, promotes the use of forethought on studies done by scientists. Dr. Douglas focuses on the great need for the studies done to include the negative outcome on life vs just the positive. In a closer reading Dr. Douglas is humanizing the situation to connect with scientists explaining why we needto take responsibility for our actions. Dr. Douglas feels it is in the scientist of who discovers the work are responsible for future uses. She goes to talk about how gene science is important and has done great things to advance humanity. She also states that is it not perfect as a result of there being people that will always do harm; Dr. Douglas says, Scientist are responsible for both the impacts they intend and any of the impacts they do not intend, if they are readily foreseeable in specific detail. Here, the author is calling out to the scientist that it is up to them to prevent their work from causing harm. She does not expect the responsibility on just the scientist, she later ... The words pathogenic, as well as, organism. Both are not words that the average American uses and I m sure majority does not even know what they are. The only time I hear those words is in a doctor s office. Another is where she goes deeper into the details of knowledge of how to generate by providing particular and accurate DNA sequences with which scientist develop ways to generate sequences of base pairs. • 3. Nuclear Force Research Papers Nuclear forces have been around the human race since the beginning of time, though it was not until recently that people began to understand it. Nuclear decay has helped scientists discover how long unstable isotopes maintain their unstable state before becoming a more stable isotope. The study of nuclear chemistry has given people in the medical field powerful tools to combat feared illnesses such as cancer. Nuclear forces have also provided an alternative energy source to coal and natural gas. Nuclear medicine however has made it possible to treat cancer. One of the forms of cancer treatments that involve radioactive materials is radiation therapy. Radiation therapy utilizes X and gamma rays to target and kill the cancer cells. Radiation therapy kills cancer cells by damaging their DNA. Radiation can either damage the DNA directly or create charged particles in cells that in turn damage the DNA. ( Radiation Therapy for Cancer ) Radiation therapy affects only the selected area of treatment, whereas other treatments such as chemo therapy affects the entire body. Radiation therapy can be administered two different ways. The first method of administration is internally. Radiation is injected directly into the blood stream where it travels to the cancerous area. The other method of administering radiation therapy is externally. Many types of external beam radiation therapy are delivered using a machine called a linear accelerator (also called a LINAC). A LINAC uses electricity to form a stream of fast moving subatomic particles. This creates high energy radiation that may be used to treat cancer. ( Radiation Therapy for

  • 5. Daniel O Connell s Speech Analysis This text is a political speech that Daniel O`Connell, one of the fathers of the Irish Republic, gave at the House of Commons in London in 1836. The aim of O Connell s speech was to get equal justice for the Irish people as members of the British Crown, and in the same way that by that time the Scottish, English and Welsh people already had. The majority of the Parliament s members were protestant and reluctant to give Irish Catholics more rights than they already had. As the time O`Connell spoke to the Parliament about the equal justice, he had already become a member of this chamber several years ago and was successful in getting more reforms for the Irish cause. He mentions the year 1825 in which the Irish people also tried to get from the Treasury Bench emancipation and they did not get it. But he appeals emotionally to them affirming that ...I am the living representative of those hopes... of reform. O Connell s more emotional tone of the last paragraph means to show the Parliament his love for his country Ireland and its unjust situation. He personifies his country by seeing himself as its friend, servant, stave ... and also as the voice of its sentiments, but above all as the voice of all the Irish people. Once again he repeats what he wants, justice: ... I ask you only for justice . ... . He never leaves an amiable tone during the whole speech and does not care about the taunts as Irishman and Papist that he can get from the members of the House. He ends but the speech very firmly and once again with the aim to get equal justice, with the words ... I demand, I respectfully insist: on equal justice for Ireland, on the same principle by it has been administrated to Scotland and England. I will not take less. Refuse me that if you can

And with no less nobility of love/ Than that which dearest father bears his son (Hamlet 1.2.94 96, 110 111). Claudius calls Hamlet s grieving unmanly and urges him to move on, because death is only natural. Moreover, he insultingly claims to feel the most honourable love that a father can have for his son. In comparison, the main plot in King Lear starts to develop quickly from the beginning when Lear holds a contest for his daughters. He claims that whichever one of them loves him the most will receive the biggest piece of the kingdom upon his retirement. Regan and Goneril, seizing an opportunity for power, are quick to flatter their father with the empty words they know he is seeking. Decisions about a firm s arenas may include its products, services, distribution channels, market segments, geographic areas and technologies (The Five Elements Of Strategy). When identifying the arenas it should be clear and specific (The Five Elements Of Strategy). This clearly reveals to managers what the firm should and should not do in the business (The Five Elements Of Strategy). Non subterranean termites are often moved from structure to structure in infested items such as furniture (TC, 1996). 2.5.3Activities of termites Termites are widely dispersed throughout the tropics as well as some temperate regions and they play vital ecological roles such as nutrient cycling and ecosystem engineering (Kemabonta et al., 2014). Constructed by termites during the night, a time of higher humidity, these tubes provide protection to termites from potential predators, especially ants (Hadlington, 1996). Shelter tubes also provide high humidity and darkness and allow workers to collect food sources that cannot be accessed in any other way. Arnold Communications undertook extensive market research in order to understand the modern VW buyer and their position in the industry. Round shapes conger up inviting, friendly images. They represent completeness, wholeness that mant are draw to. The sociologists suggested that the Bug phenomenon in the 60 s was seen as countercultural and that small is beautiful. These values could still be leveraged in modern American society where there is a move to standarize. The Beetle could still be counterculatural and used in the modern quest for individuality. Question 3: How would you evaluate the different positioning options? Hollensen 2007 states the third phase in the IMS model is the screening of the markets. Following Arnold Communications research, VW had assessed and developed their potential markets. Now was the time to select and screen the best of the segment opportunities. VW had deduced that their two main target markets would be 18 to 34 year olds and the baby boomers in the over 40 s range. Both of these markets, much like the VW research showed similar persnality traits. However, due to VW s lack of budget it was not possible to target both markets. VW had to decide where to position the new Beetle. For the younger market, utilising the successful Drivers Wanted campaign and therefore putting the Beetle under the VW umberalla. Or for the baby boomers, by developing a seperate campaign to fully utilise the nostalgic leverage and to use the Beetle as a Hero brand for VW. 18

The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho Analysis Robert Frost, an American poet, wrote in his poem, The Road Not Taken, Two roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Santiago of Paulo Coelho s The Alchemist has that split road, two decisions: one that is unpredictable and one that is safe. If he makes the safe and popular choice, he knows he will regret it and always wonder what would have happened. If he makes the unpredictable choice, the one that is chosen less, he will follow his heart, and find his treasure. Santiago decides, and is following his heart through his journey to the Pyramids to find his treasure. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns, Remember where your heart is, there you will find your treasure. First, Santiago learns a valuable lesson about selfawareness. Next, Santiago understands a new feeling he is experiencing. Last, Santiago unexpectedly learns a new truth about his treasure. To begin, Santiago learns a valuable lesson about self awareness. For example, while Santiago is talking to King Melchizedek, he tells Santiago a story of a wise man who gave a spoon with oil to a boy, and told him to walk around the palace. The boy does, but does not see any of the wonderful things around him, yet when he looks at those things, he drops the oil, Santiago learns the lesson from the story: The secret of happiness is to see all of the marvels of the world, and never to forget the drops of oil in the spoon (35).
  • 18. Diagnosis Of An Informal Caregiver During the stages Alzheimer s in which the resident is in need of care, but that care is not too complex, it is most common to turn to an informal caregiver. According to the 2016 Alzheimer s Disease Facts and Figures (2016), In 2015, caregivers of people with Alzheimer s and other dementias provided an estimated 18.1 billion hours of informal (that is, unpaid) assistance, a contribution to the nation valued at $221.3 billion (p. 32). Informal caregivers are mainly daughters and spouses of the residents. Females make up the majority of familymember caretakers, but it is becoming more common for men to take on this role (Brodaty Donkin, 2009). Roughly a third of the caretakers in the United States are over the age of sixty five and the majority are married or are in long term relationships. It has also been found that around 23% of caretakers for residents with dementia also have their own children under age eighteen (Alzheimer s Association, 2016). This can increase the level of stress that the caregiverfaces, as he or she is being stretched in different directions. Informal caregivers take on the role of caring for the resident for a number of reasons. One of which includes the fact that they believe that they owe a debt of gratitude to their loved ones. Other reasons include a feeling that it is what they should do regardless of whether or not they want to or because they believe that it will provide them with a feeling of fulfillment. As you read the book, Cormier takes you on a journey that is filled with depth and symbolism. Sadly, as it was first introduced , people didn t take the time to absorb the beauty of the world through his eyes. This author s words crossed so many avenues , that it bumped a few curves on the way. Much controversy was stirred up but the author stood by his book . Egyptian architecture is also extremely interesting in terms of location, scale, purpose, and potentially most important how Egyptian architecture can dictate movement through the space. The majority of ancient Egyptian structures studied by architectural historians and planners alike, were erected to honor a pharaoh or as a grand tomb for their journey through to the afterlife. Whether the structure was in the form of a temple, tomb or statue, the ritual and spiritual influence is unquestionable. It requires students to analyze, synthesize, apply and evaluate information that is gained from reading (Afflerbach, 2015). I have seen firsthand the positive effects of using Common Core especially in the ELA discipline. It allows for higher order thinking skills versus the lower level questioning that the students have been exposed to for so long. Some assessment practices that I feel are in need of more emphasis in my school is the understanding that reading is an active and complex process that understands written text (Afflerbach, 2015). Also, seeing that there is a great need for using formative assessments set off a red flag for me. • 35. Surrealism And Surrealism Impressionism is an art movement originating in France which ran between the 1860s until the 1890s. Famous artists of the genre include Claude Monet and Gustave Caillebotte. The movement is typically characterized by its sketch like techniques and its use of bright vivid colors, giving the painting a bright look. Impressionism s sketch like appearance allowed artists to paint the world imperfectly as to demonstrate an impression of what it looks like, which is where the name comes from. The tendency of impressionist artists was also to paint shadows with a more colorful appeal by replacing the blacks and greys by colors. As the form did not represent the reality of a landscape, it allowed artists to also represent the optical effects of light and diverge from the mainstream norm of the realism movement. Surrealism is an art movement which ran between the 1920s until World War 2. Major artists of the movement include AndrГ© Breton, Salvador DalГ , RenГ© Magritte and Sigmund Freud whose work on human psychology has served as major inspiration for the movement. Surrealism can be recognized by its attempt to create an extremely fictional world and does not portray ours. Subjects in surrealist paintings seem very out of place and would not appear in that landscape in the real world. The practice of this movement draws heavily from Freud s research on the nature of the human subconscious and attempts to draw a painting of the surrealistic nature of dreams and human fantasy. In all aspects of Dutch society, once hailed for its extremely tolerant and liberal mindset, are slowly moving in the other direction. With the growing power of the Christian Union in the Netherlands, marijuana, prostitution, and now abortionare once again causes for concern. One woman, ten years ago, had a vision. Her vision was to spread what she calls a basic human right to parts of the world where this right is denied to millions of women every year. Rebecca Gomperts has devoted her life to providing abortions and abortion pills, as well as contraceptives, and Plan B pills to women in international waters. She is the founder of Women on Waves, the controversial organization that has been in action for ten years. Earlier this year, however, the Women on Waves has been met with strong restrictions and scrutiny by the Dutch government. With strong opposition, Women on Waves is currently docked until further notice, which has lead to the question of what is the future of the abortion policy in Holland; the land where it is supposedly very easy to obtain one. Dr. Rebecca Gomperts started out her career as an abortion doctor in Amsterdam. Though to her the actual procedure was rather boring, the rewards from liberating women from unwanted pregnancies were enough to make her really enjoy such work. Later on in career, Gomperts became the

  • 42. The Independence Of Meta Cinema And Authorship Chapter 2 This chapter will examine the independence of meta cinema and authorship. As Valck and Hagener stated in An Introduction to Cinephilia, auteurisim a cinematic practice set up due to the prominence of the film director emerges from passionate attendance and critiques on films in Cahiers du Cin?ma, and further aims to cultivate cinematic literacy among the audience (Valck and Hagener, 1999). Thus, auteurist concerns can be summarised as appealing to the articulation and reception of filmmakers? self reflexivity. David Bordwell has indicated in his analysis on European art cinema that the stress of authorship covers the distinct style of art cinema practices (Bordwell, 1979). In his essay, representative art films are introduced as models conveying authorial marks, among which are Day for Night (La Nuit Am?ricaine, Truffaut, 1973) and 8 ? (Fellini, 1963). In order to demonstrate this, I will take in this chapter these two films together with Tout Va Bien (Godard and Gorin, 1972) as illustration. Determined by Bordwell as adversary to art cinema, the third reflexive work balances the discussion on the projection of auteurism in meta cinema as an interrogating approach. All examples reflect the process of filmmaking and embody or question the auteurist concerns on directors? individuality and the uniqueness of cinema as an art. These concerns have been stated in film critiques and have embraced post war European cinema. First coined by Fran?ois Truffaut as
  • 43. Analysis Of The Film Joan Of Arc The movie, Joan of Arc, that stars Leelee Sobieski is about a 15th century teenage girl hears voices from god who tells her what she needs to do. She ends up leading the French forces against the English. Although Joan really did hear the voices, this movie is not completely historically accurate. The first inaccurate part of the movie is it shows Joan first hearing the voices in Church. Throughout the movie, almost every scene has something inaccurate about it. The movie starts off in 1412 in the village of Domremy, which is the year and place Joan was born. The village of Domremy was right in the war zone of France. This made is so all the villagers would have to take cover and hide from the soldiers when they came to attack and burn down their village and destroy it. One of the scenes that was inaccurate was during the final assault on Les Tourelles. Joan ordered Glasdale to be killed by archers after she said to him, I will send you to hell . This is not historically accurate because it was not correct with the form of the real events that happened. The real event that happened was Glasdale had drowned while trying to escape from a burning drawbridge. The drawbridge collapsed from the weight of all the men in armor and the horses. Glasdale and many other English lords drowned and sank to the bottom. In real life, Joan would have never want to send someone to hell . She was compassionate to her God (Archive). The original Tv series of this movie had hardly mentioned the retrial that was done towards the end of the war. There was mention of the support that was given to Joan from the Church scholars at Poitiers. They did not mention the support that was also given to her from the trial (Archive). In the movie, it shows how Charles VII betrayed Joan. Although, there is no real evidence that Charles did so. In fact, there are many documents that prove that he didn t. The group that put Joan on trial, which was the pro English University of Paris, sent a letter to John of Luxemburg. They were complaining that the people from John s faction were trying to do everything in their power to save her by extraordinary means . This was also talked about in a entry at the archives of Venetian merchants who

The left hemisphere specializes in language, words, understanding and reasoning while the right hemisphere is associated with spatial awareness and creativity. Split brain is a term used to describe the result when the corpus callosum connecting the two hemispheres is severed either partially or completely. Before the proceeding with the surgical procedure, the patient s head is either partially or completely shaven in order to gain easier access to the scalp. Once they are under general anesthesia, the surgeon makes an incision, which allows for a craniotomy to be performed. A craniotomy is an operation that allows for the temporary removal of part of the bone from the skull to expose the brain. For a partial callostomy, the anterior two thirds is sectioned, but the posterior one third is sectioned as well for a complete callostomy. After sectioning, the dura is closed and a portion of the cranium is replaced. The split brain procedure was primarily done in order to stop epileptic seizures. Epileptic episodes can range from a short loss of consciousness to severely thrashing arms and legs uncontrollably. Scientists and researchers are now aware of the fact that seizures are caused by an abnormal discharge of electrical impulses throughout the brain that interrupts normal brain patterns. They were also able to figure out that severing the corpus callosum prevents the electrical discharge from dispersing through the

  • 48. Bible And The Lord s Prayer I got very annoyed and was very disturbed when Moore discussed the ordination of women in the Catholic Church; as well as the discussion about changing the words of the Bible and the Lord s Prayer. First, Moore discusses feminist liberal movements changing the wording of the Bible: Proffered gender neutral language, substituting brothers and sisters for brothers, interpreting the pronoun He as the proper noun God, and using Our Parent instead of Our Father in the Lord s Prayer (Moore 143). The Lord s Prayer was given to us by Christ in the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke. To turn around and decide you don t like the wording so you re going to change it is very disturbing to me. The prevalence of the idea of genderneutral
  • 49. Essay On Student Loan Crisis The student loan crisis is worse than ever and more people are leaving college thousands of dollars in debt before they even have a job or any type of income. With the rising cost of college and living expenses, people are taking out more student loans for higher amounts, leaving more people in an undesirable amount of debtand essentially trapping them. There s currently no way to get rid of federal student debt other than paying off the loans. (Quinton, Sophie, why you might be paying student loans till you retire). Because student loans are not like other loans they will not disappear if you declare bankruptcy, so the borrower is forced to pay them back even if it means you cannot afford to do so. There is not just one thing that is causing the student loancrisis this is a combination of many things that are being overlooked or ignored. We need to look into the reasoning to determine why this is happening, what problems it is causing and then come up with a solution that can stop the problem. Student loans are a great tool to use if you need financial help for college, but one must be careful and consider the consequences and understand what a student loan is and how to deal with them to make a responsible decision about their financial future. Before we can go any further, we need to first define what exactly a student loan is, and what student loans can entail. A student loan is defined as A type of loan designed to help students pay for post secondary education and the associated fees . Student loans are marvelous and a supportive tool for college students, but people don t realize that everything they borrow needs to be paid back with interest. Five years ago in 2012 71% of students graduating four year colleges had student loans and the average indebtedness of a college graduate was $29,400 . If you compare that to 1993 the average indebtedness of a college graduate was $9,450 (Average Student Loan Debt, 1993 2012). In only 19 years there was a $19,950 dollar difference in the averages. Those numbers do not include the interest that the student will have to pay back over time. All of those factors are just a small part of what makes up student debt but it is good to have a general

  • 51. Discussion Board Of Oral Digestion I chose the oral cavity to describe for this discussion board. The oral cavity ingests, chews, and swallows the food so that it may enter our bodies. The oral cavity is the place where digestion begins. Before it goes anywhere in the body it has to enter our mouths first so that it may be mechanically broken down with the help of our teeth and saliva. Saliva contains digestive enzymes that help break down the food particles so that it s easier for us to swallow. Hanging at the back of the throat is the uvula which is there to serve for more than one purpose. The first purpose being it has a role in speech production, and the second one being the gag reflex. The reflex is stimulated when food enters the throat without swallowing. This prevents
  • 52. The True Face of Unethical Humor Following Chaucer s description of the Miller in the General Prologue, The Miller s Tale reveals that the Miller is more complex than his appearance initially suggests. Given its bawdy and humorous nature, the Miller s story consists of events of cuckoldry, foolishness, and secrets (1720, 1718, and 1719). As the teller of such a tale, the Miller would immediately be classified as a crude man, interested only in the physical appeal of women. However, as the tale unfolds, it imparts the Miller s unexpected empathy as he commiserates with Alison, who is trapped by the norms of society. The Miller s story portrays not only the Miller s expected vulgar and deceptive characteristics but also his surprisingly sympathetic nature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Miller displays complete apathy for the norms of society through his satire of the metaphysical Knight and clergyman. Furthermore, the Miller s bawdy nature progressively worsens as he initially begins with his songs of prostitution and later describes a woman s private areas, an action of atrocious audacity and low thinking, but he asserts is noble (1718). Thus, in his bawdy rebellion, the Miller solely focuses on his lewd tale, disregarding the norms of society. The Miller s deceptive qualities influence the characters actions in his story. During his pilgrimage with the Miller, Chaucer discovers the habits of the golden thumb Miller and describes him as a fox (1712). The Miller would cheat people by steal[ing] corn and charg[ing] for it three times (1712). The Miller s characters also use guile as frequently as the Miller does. In their affair, both Nicholas and Alison devise a plan to trick the jealous John. While speaking to John alone, Nicholas warns him of a flood to come and states he must not waste words on the wise; however, Nicholas tricks the so called wise carpenter and has intercourse with John s wife after John falls asleep (1727). Furthermore, Absolom begs for a kiss from Alison, but she beard[s] him, another instance of bawdy deceit (1730). Thus, the Miller s disposition of treachery propels his characters in their misdemeanors, exemplifying his immoral nature; however, every apple on the tree is not rotten.
