Wall Of Jerusalem Research Paper
When Nehemiah heard that the wall of Jerusalem was broken down and the gates were burned
by fire (Neh 1:3), he wept. Now it s our turn. Stand in the midst of your city. See the rooftops and
the church steeples; even in the larger cities see the skyscrapers. These are the walls of our
cities. The church steeples are our town towers. Look closely. Ask for spiritual eyes. What do
we see? There is death and destruction all around. There is sadness, loss and emptiness. The
walls of our own cities have fallen just like Jerusalem. The city guards have deserted their posts.
Our gates have also been burned burned by the fire of hell. Satan has infiltrated our cities, causing
pain, heartache and disaster. Too long we ve turned a blind eye. Tell me

Corporate Capacity And Authority
Corporate capacity and authority were essential legal concepts which contained rules for when
and how a company ought to be legally recognised as having validly acted and entered into a
binding contract with third parties. Broadly speaking, the rules which applied to corporate
capacity were the ultra vires doctrine and the doctrine of constructive notice. In regard to the
concept of corporate authority, both the ultra vires doctrine and the doctrine of constructive notice
also applied however their application was curtailed by the Turquand rule. The Turquand rule
therefore only applied when the authority of directors was in question. A definitional overview of
the concepts of corporate capacity and authority will be provided below, along with brief
description of the doctrine of constructive notice and the Turquand rule. The thesis deals with the
above concepts and discusses how the Companies Act 71 of 2008 (the Act) modified the law,
particularly, by extending the legal capacity of a company and extinguishing or modifying the
above rules which had previously restricted a company s ability... Show more content on

For a company to transact with third parties and to enter into valid business dealings there must be
a valid contract concluded in order to create legally binding obligations enforceable between the
company and the third party. For a contract to be valid the company must have the requisite legal
capacity to enter into the contract and the directors or officers representing the company must have
the authority to act on its behalf. Within company law, capacity and authority are interrelated
principles however it is important to note that each is an entirely different and separate legal
concept from the other. Capacity relates to the legal competency and the powers of the company
while authority relates to the power of a company s director or officer to act on behalf of the

Health Benefits And The Business Aspects Of The Beloved...
Coffee
My topic of choice is coffee. I personally drink a large amount of it everyday. I spent a lot of time
trying to figure out what I wanted my topic to be. Coffee is something I enjoy everyday and am
curiosity about. At one time I wanted to open my own coffee shop. That dream is dead, but I still
enjoy the beverage, often in a hip, public place surrounded by friends. I believe this topic will
keep me focused and interested and enlighten me on current arguments and facts. I am interested in
the health benefits and the business aspects of the beloved brew. I had an intention at one time of
pursuing nutrition as a degree, so health information intrigues me. Currently, I am considering
business as a degree plan. Researching the business aspect may help prepare me for that future
and give me a glimpse at what business entails. On a humorous note, I know I will need large
doses of caffeine to make it through my college career, so I would like to know my limits.
I have read many times over the last few years that coffee is good for you. Others tell me often that
it is not, to which I tell them it is, based on material I have read, but not researched. I do not recall
much material stating that it is bad, but I know it is out there. Part of my research paper will be in
pursuit of finding the facts about the health benefits and harms of the brew. From my limited
reading in the past, I have learned that it naturally contains antioxidants that fight free radicals in
your body,

Alexis De Tocqueville s Democracy In America
Alexis De Tocqueville wrote Democracy in America while visiting the country from France. During
his stay, he observed the government and its strengths and flaws. He recorded his findings and
published them in Democracy in America. His book details many aspects of the American
government, but is most notably known for his opinion on the tyranny of the majorityand the
potential despotism that could arise. Tocqueville s concerns for the American government could be
seen as addressed in the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment. Tocqueville expresses the fear of
a tyranny of the majority in a democracy. Tocqueville describes the idea of a majority by stating, it
is the very essence of democratic government that the majority has absolute sway, for in a
democracy nothing resists the majority, (Vol. 1, PT 2, Chapter 7

The ratification of this amendment applied the Bill of Rights to the states. In doing so, Tocqueville
s concern of a tyranny of the majority at the state level is now combatted. He established his view
that the creation of the United States Constitution involved more intelligence than the development
of state constitutions. He believed that the national constitution discussed factions in a more
effective way. With the enumerated regulations on factions now applying to the states, the
possibility of the majority gaining too much power is now diminishing. The lack of protections
within the states is now no more. The Fourteenth Amendment protects the rights of the people
without giving administrative power to the federal government, but gives more power to the federal
government. Though the federal government is gaining some power, decentralization of the
administration persists. This eliminates the fear that the majority can do away with the minority s
rights, as well as have centralized power that includes legislative and implementation

Comparison Between Good And Evil In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
Good Vs. Evil in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde The battle line between good and evil runs through the
heart of every man. (Solzhenitsyn) In the story Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis
Stevenson, Dr.Jekyll has this battle of good and evil within himself. He has the idea to separate
his evil half known as Mr. Hyde with a potion. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde focuses on duality of man
and human nature. Stevenson develops the theme of good and evilthroughout the story using the
setting, characters, and the city of London. In the beginning of the story Mr. Utterson, a lawyer,
and Mr. Enfield, a doctor, are taking their normal sunday stroll, as they are walking they pass by
a house that catches their attention. This house seems out of place, to be in the neighborhood
they re in because they are in a richer neighborhood and the door on the house looks old and
rugged. Which reminds Mr.Enfield of a story of a girl whom he witnessed getting trampled one
night, and how he made the evil man who trampled her pay money to cover what he had done.
The trampling of the girl is represented as an evil thing. Strangely, the check contained the name
of a very respectable man which aroused Enfield s suspicions about the check. Enfield refuses to
reveal the name on the check. However we find out that the evil man is actually Hyde and he
wrote a check signed by Jekyll. No one has heard of Mr. Hyde so Mr. Utterson makes it his
mission to find out more about Mr. Hyde. Utterson is a lawyer and, in fact he is Dr. Jekyll s
lawyer he opens a safe that had Jekyll s will in it. He looks over it for a long time. The terms in
the will say all of the doctor s possessions are to pass into the hands of his friend Edward Hyde if
Dr. Jekyll disappears or has an unexplained absence. Utterson goes to visit Dr. Lanyon. He thinks
that Lanyon can explain Dr. Jekyll s relationship to Hyde. Lanyon greets his friend into his home,
and the two men talk for a while till Utterson says to Lanyon that they are probably two of the
oldest friends that Henry Jekyll has. Lanyon replies that he hasn t seen much of Jekyll for years,
ever since Jekyll ...became too fanciful... and ...wrong in mind... (Stevenson,11).Which infers
something of the evil act.

Twenty Years at Hull-House Essay
Twenty Years at Hull House
Two Works Cited Victoria Bissell Brown s introduction to Twenty Years at Hull House explains the
life of Jane Addams and her commitment to insight social change to problems that existed during
the turn of the 20th century. As a reaction to the hardships of a changing industrial society, Addams
decided to establish a settlement house in the West side of Chicago to help individuals who had
suffered from the cruelties of industrialization. Rejecting the philosophies that stemmed from the
Gilded Age, such as social Darwinism and the belief that human affairs were determined by natural
law, Addams was a progressive who wanted government to be more responsive to the people....

At the beginning of the chapter, the author raises questions that were prevalent a century ago and
that are still important today. The one question I found most interesting is, Can white, native born,
economically secure Americans ever really understand, much less help, those who are struggling to
survive? (1). Much of the prevalent political culture emphasized Aryan superiority, as well as the
concern a changing society would suffer from massive immigration. Even authors, such as
Charlotte Perkins Gilman, recognized the oppression she suffered from as a woman. However, she
did not recognize the oppression others suffered in her embracing of anti immigration as well as
racist beliefs. Reactionary to the massive immigration of this time, Charlotte Perkins Gilman also
supported eugenics to improve the human race. Yet Addams did not argue immigrants were inferior
to the Aryan people. In fact, three quarters of her residents at Hull House were first and second
generation immigrants. Not only was Addams sympathetic to the poor, but she also was
sympathetic to the plight of immigrants.
I find Jane Addams s commitment to social change extraordinary. To answer the question stated
previously, I would say, Yes, because Jane Addams was not under any pressure or obligation to
help the poor, especially at a time when the dominant belief was

The Destructive Nature of the American Dream in F. Scott...
The concept of the American dream has been related to everything from religious freedom to a nice
home in the suburbs. It has inspired both deep satisfaction and disillusioned fury. The phrase elicits
for most Americans a country where good things can happen. However, for many Americans, the
dream is simply unattainable. In F. Scott Fitzgeralds Winter Dreams, Dexter Green, a hardworking
young man born into the middle class, becomes wrapped up in his pursuit to obtain wealth and
status in his life. These thoughts and ideas represent Dexter s fixation on his winter dreams, or, the
idea of what the American Dream means to him: gaining enough wealth to eventually move up in
social class and become somebody, someday. As Dexter attempts... Show more content on

Because Dexter s life is unintentionally controlled by these dreams, he does not realize that he

in love with the woman who stands at the core of his materialistic fantasies. His complete focus
in life becomes geared toward gaining the love of a beautiful woman who expresses the glamour
and promise of the exclusive world (Perkins). Dexter begins to strongly believe that Judy Jones is
his key to unlocking the world of the rich and wealthy. By illustrating the luxurious lifestyle of
Judy Jones, Fitzgerald reveals how she represents, to Dexter, what life is like for the rich and
prosperous. As well as representing the upper class lifestyle, Judy, through her beauty and manner,
represents Dexter s dream of obtaining a higher status that he has wished for ever since he was
young. After passionately kissing Judy and realizing that the
color and the mobility of her mouth gave a continual impression of flux, of intense life, of
passionate vitality, he discovers that he had wanted Judy Jones ever since he was a proud,
desirous little boy (Fitzgerald 1013). This life and passion that she presents shows that she offers
more than just wealth, but beauty and love as well. Malcolm Cowley, author of The Romance of

Theme Of Sidney Carton
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens is one of the most memorable novels in the history of
English Literature. The novel starts with the famous lines It was the best of times, it was the worst
of times ( Dickens 11). The novel depicts London, England and Paris, France in later years of the
seventeenth century. It presents to us the confusion, the political one that surrounded the two
nations during that period of time. The novelis rich in meaning and significance and Dickens has
very skilfully integrated various themes. Dickens genius of characterisation is fully evident in this
novel. In this paper, an attempt has been made to analyse the character of Sidney Carton in the light
of the observation that he has been used by Dickens to bring out the theme of Resurrection in the
novel.
It is far, far better thing that I do than I have ever done. It is a far, far better rest that I have than I
have ever known. ( Dickens 367). These beautiful, touching words has been put by the author in the
mouth of Sidney Carton, our hero at the very end moments of his life. He has throughout been an
alcoholic and apathetic man. Although he s a man blessed with intelligentsia which is evident from

Becoming A Leading Woman
Is it possible to become a leading women in society, make my parents proud, and set an example
for my siblings without speaking my mind? My great difficulty to speak up all began at the
young age of nine in the fourth grade. Mrs. Stal, a very strict and loud middle aged private
school teacher, had diminished my self confidence in the classroom by constantly telling me to
be quiet. This had later on affected by ability to speak up, bringing me to where I am now, a girl
who can talk your ears off, but could never speak up for herself once faced against authority. The
solution to my problem consist of learning to speak my mindeven when faced against threatening
authority.
Being a social butterfly with the difficulty to speak her mind may seem contradictory, however
the causes of past experience provide evidence. Main causes for self struggles include my
upbringing and insecurities. My upbringing from a Hispanic household had influenced my
understanding of adults to be respected and not to question their authority. What my parents said
was law, no questions about it. Respect slowly turned to fear as I grew older due to
consequences and punishments I received. My insecurities slowly conquered my thoughts at the
age of 10, preventing me from speaking to any adult. I felt as if everything I said or did was
incorrect, triggering my silence inside and outside the classroom. My silence slowly spiraled my
life downwards causing my fear of authority to follow me from middle

The New Testament Church Act 2 Essay
Act 2, gave us a vivid description of how the new testament church began. After Peter preaches on
the Pentecost day many were touched by what Peter said. Act 2 recorded that many who were
present when Peter spoke had the urgency to receive the gospel so that their sins can be forgiven.
Although many accused the disciples of being drunk the good news is that Peter was able to make
it clear that they were not drunk rather they filled with the holy spirit. Fulfilling the prophecy that
was given to the Jews by the prophets.
Act 2 : 14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: Fellow
Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.

29 Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and
his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on
oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he
spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor
did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses to it. 33
Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has
poured out what you now see and hear.
Witherington believed that many who listened to Peter came from different parts of the word
(page 182). It seems that many who accepted peter message heed to it and probably took back the
message to their various home country to evangelize what they have heard.

Television And Young Women s Western Society
Television and Young Women in Western Society Reality television is considered to be essentially
unscripted and unfiltered television programs where people showcase themselves depicting their
real lives, the good, the bad and the ugly. Reality TV shows like The Real Housewives or The
Kardashians exploit the lives of wealthy high class people who portray drama, fortune and
materialistic things. Since the beginning of the reality show phenomenon critics have been
debating that reality televisionis nothing more than highly scripted flavored up televisionthat
attracts viewers with the allure of dramatic flare and sex appeal. Is reality television negatively
effecting the perception of self and genderroles in young women who are viewing it? According to
research done at the University of Michigan, 71% of 8 18 year olds have a TV in their bedroom
and in 53% of those households there is no restriction on TV viewing (Boyse). With the female
population under 18 years of age soaring at 74,181,467 (US Census), it is obvious that a large
portion of young females are viewing these reality television programs. According to another study
done at Oregon State University, reality TV statistics point out that 68% 18 29 year olds watch
reality television (Oregon). Social comparison theory states that people are repeatedly evaluating
themselves by comparing themselves to others (Vonderen, Kinnally). With this being said, females

The age at which a woman starts having menstrual periods is not related to the age of menopause
onset.
When does a woman know she is in menopause?
In order to be menopausal, a woman must have had no menstrual periods (menses) for 12 months
and have no other medical reason for her menses to stop. Therefore, a woman cannot know she is
menopausal unless she has not had a menstrual period for 12 months.
Are hormone levels or other blood tests helpful in detecting menopause?
Because hormone levels may fluctuate greatly in an individual woman, even from one day to the
next, hormone levels are not a reliable indicator for diagnosing menopause.
Even if levels are low one day, they may be high the next day in the same woman.
Although hormone levels of several blood tests are available, there is no particular single blood
test yet that reliably allows a doctor to predict when a women is going to go through menopause
in the future, or if she is experiencing the beginning of the menopausal transition. At present, there
is no proven role for blood testing regarding menopause except for tests to exclude medical causes
of erratic menstrual periods other than menopause. The only way to diagnose menopause is to
observe lack of menstrual periods for 12 months in a woman in the expected age range.
*What are the symptoms of menopause?
The symptoms of menopause can be divided into early and late onset symptoms.

Possible Causes Of The Great Recession
Recessions have damaged the country multiple times and have multiple causes. The Great
Recession was caused by individuals and the big banks in the country, not Wall Street. People
were trying to get money quickly and were willing to believe lies to get it. People lost their homes
and livelihood but the richest people in the country were mostly unaffected by the recession and
were able to continue on with their lives. Economists always thought the housing market would

Radon Essay
Radon
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive element that can be found in soil, underground water,
and outdoor air. Some of the properties of this gas include being odorless, tasteless, and colorless.
The concentrations vary throughout the country depending on the types of rocks that are found in
the soil. Exposure over prolonged periods of time to radon decay products has been associated with
an increased risk of lung cancer.(3) The EPA describes an elevated concentration as being at or
above their suggested guidelines of 4pCi/l
(pico Curies per liter, used as a radiation unit of measure for radon).
Exposures below this level may create a risk of lung cancer, farther reductions to lower levels may

Uranium and its by products of decay, namely radon are abundant and are constantly being
generated.(13) Radon is capable of easily traveling through rocks and soil.(14) The gas is also
found dissolved in water, due to decay in the soil or rock below.(15)
Radon in Water
The risk from radon in water is much lower than the risk from radon in air. This is because the
water must be heated or agitated to release the gas.
This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public
water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site
and the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Most water that contains hazardous amounts of radon
comes from wells. Wells should be tested for radon if the building that they are supplying contains
hazardous amounts in the air. The testing procedures for water are different from those used on
air.(16)
Water containing radon can usually be treated. The most effective treatment is to remove radon
from the water before it enters the home, this is called point of entry treatment. Water can also be
treated at the tap, this is known as point of use treatment. However this treatment is much less
effective at removing the risk.(17)
Radon Entry
Radon travels through the ground and into the air, allowing the gas to easily enter buildings and
homes.

Child Support Research Paper
While growing up, children get a lot of support from their father and mother. Children learn things
from them. Every action that parents do, their children want to do the same. Parents are always
careful with their child until they get older and ready to do things by their own. But what about
when the child gets older? Are they going to take care of their parents and give the same support
and love? Many people will change when they mature. They always want to be on their own and
forget about their parents. As people are getting older, they should not forget about their parents.
Parents support their child until they mature and ready to do things by them self, but a lot of
children forget to pay them back. According to Bhikkhu T. Seelananda However, as a grateful sons

people should think about everything before they actually do it. I am alive because of my son, I

Malcolm Gladwell s Blink
Can we know something without knowing how we know it? This is precisely the question that
Malcolm Gladwell sets out to ponder in his book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking.
Looking at scientific experiments from laboratories nation wide, Gladwell explores the fascinating
phenomenon of thin slicing , or making snap judgments without consciously engaging in the
decision making process. These thin slices , Gladwell asserts, are surprisingly accurate sometimes
even more so than the decisions we make after long hours of careful consideration and reflection.
One particularly interesting question raised by this study is the implications it brings to bear on the
process of thought. Our brains, home to both our conscious and unconscious... Show more content

The HBO series A Game of Thrones based off the very popular George R.R. Martins fantasy

Effects Of Depression In The Great Depression
The Great Depression in the Great Depression During the Great Depression jobs, food, and
money were hard to come by for most people. The period between 1929 and 1939, Americans
from all over were struggling to just get by. The struggles people faced put a strain on families and
even themselves. People during the Great Depressionwere often ashamed, humiliated, and lost
their sense of self worth. In Maslow s hierarchy esteem is considered a high order need, to
establish that you must meet other needs like physiological needs, a sense of safety, and belonging.
When those needs are not met the person will lose their self esteem. People in America during this
time struggled with their self esteem and they had difficulty when trying to find purpose. That
struggle results in broken families, and an increase in the homeless population. The inability to
find jobs violates the sense of financial safety associated with Maslow s hierarchy. During this
time it wasn t just the homeless and downtrodden that felt ashamed it was also the people
providing relief to them, due to the prodding required. Prior to the Great Depression life was one
of excess and buying on credit for most Americans. They had a certain persona that they wanted
to show off to people. Most Americans compared themselves to their neighbors as a gauge of how
well they were doing. Then one day the money that they associated with their self worth was gone.
People of course panicked and realized that what they held so

doesn t care about the look of the games he/she plays, and just really wants a computer for
everyday browsing then the bare essentials are all that is needed. For, a hardcore build the base

NEVER try to save money on the power supply. The power supply is the heart of the PC, it gives

Unfortunately, during these times, Frank saw how mean kids can be as he was given the

After Frank s father grew sick, the Goldberg family moved to Los Angeles where some of the

was struggling for money and Frank had to find a job. He worked as a delivery truck man who
installed breakfast nooks. It was through this job that Frank would meet Anita Snyder, a woman
who he married later in 1952. Two years later, with the permission of his family, Frank decided

The Crucible Critical Analysis
The English philosopher, Sir Francis Bacon, once wrote, Reading maketh a full man; conference

literature affects an individual. To explain, reading fills one s mind with knowledge and ideas,
talking about those ideas makes one adaptable to differences in others, and writing forces one is

as students read and annotate out of the hymnals, discuss major texts in class, and write essays
each week over the material. During the last semester alone the Junior Honors English class read
several texts by American Authors from the ancient oral cosmogonist myths of Native Americans
to the Feminist literature of the 1890 s. In the entire range of different texts read, three specific
texts were the most important in room 303. The Crucible by Arthur Miller makes one reflect on
one s morals as the play unfolds. The 1953 play revolves around the town of puritan Salemand the
actual people and events of the famous Salem witch trials. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in
the height of the Red Scare, and his play reveals the mass hysteria and paranoia which plagued
America at the time. Many of the innocent people accused in both Salem and in the 1950 s faced

Theme Of Phony In Catcher In The Rye
In the novel The Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger shows through Holden Caulfield how people
cannot help being phony and fake, no matter how diligently they try. Phoniness cannot be
overcome by any man, including Holden, even though he loathes people who are phony and do
not speak their true mind. In search for a solution, Holden hid from the real world and felt
extreme loneliness, and he broke down because he wanted the impossible. J.D. Salinger shows
the lack of connection between people, especially during times of trauma and depression
through Holden s obsession with the phoniness of the world, which leads Holden down a dark
path because there is no way to keep the world or people in general in a state of innocence. In the
novel, phoniness is recounted as when things are fake and unrealistic and when people do not
speak their true mind. Holden believes that everyone and most things, but himself, are phony.
Holden thought that at his old school, Elkton Hills, he was, Surrounded by phonies, (pg 17). He

Antoinette s arranged marriage begins to distresses her, as she is married to a controlling white
Englishman who feels alienated were she feels at home. Indeed, their marriage is a mismatch of
culture and custom. Anoinette and her husband, Mr. Rochester, fail to relate to one another or

Antoinette cannot find a peaceful place for herself. Now she seeks refuge of the cruel world by

The letter that president Andrew Jackson wrote to congress Message To the People Of The United

Research Paper On Guerrilla Marketing
As competitiveness between companies nowadays is every time more and more extended, brands
need to search for ways to make it stand out among the others. Guerilla marketing is one example of
this standing out goal.
Guerrilla marketing was originally a marketing strategy in which low cost, unconventional means
were used in a localized fashion to draw attention to an idea, product, or service. Today, guerrilla
marketing may also include promotion through a network of individuals, groups, or organizations
working to popularize a product or idea by use of such strategies as flash mobs, viral marketing
campaigns, or internet marketing.
The term guerrilla marketing is traced to guerrilla warfare, which employs atypical tactics to
achieve an objective.
Guerrilla marketing was initially used by small and medium sized businesses, but it is increasingly
being adopted by big business. This concept rises from a promotion that relies on imagination rather

Hamlet s Madness Is Less Than Madness And More Than Feigned
Charmaine Bowden Hancock
Honors English III
3rd Period
Dec. 17. 2015
Fact or Fake?
Hamlet s madness is less than madness and more than feigned . What is madness? Mad is a word
with such uncertainty that it can be stretched to mean an abundance of things more than just pure
psychological instability: a weariness of life; a suicidal impulse; a plotting charisma. In the play
Hamlet by William Shakespeare, a wild disagreement has been consequent for a series of years in
the case of the madness of Hamlet, the play s central narrative, was justifiable or feigned. As in
any decision, one must be given both sides of the controversy before making an impartial
conclusion. The case of Hamlet s madness is no exclusion. It is appropriate to say that Hamlet
may have remained sensible throughout the performance, especially in consideration of his rag
flashes of what seems to be psychological discipline and stability. However, Hamlet is perceived
as disoriented by overwhelming burst of hysteria after acquiring knowledge of his father s death,
news of Gertrude s quick remarriage, and Claudius becoming the new King. In the butt end it is up
to the scholar to determine for him or herself the psychological nature of Hamlet s madness, as it
may have been the motive of William Shakespeare, taking into review how open ended this subject
continued throughout the play.
With Hamlet s return to Denmark he is made aware of his father s death, Old King Hamlet. His
reaction to his father s death is

My Writing Style And Writing
Writing was never a known weakness of mine. However, I could never confidently call it a
strength. Throughout the course of this semester, my writing style has evolved and I have rid
my writing of many habitual mistakes. I have learned to appreciate writing much more, and
enjoy the moments where my mind meets words on a paper. Creativity has always been one of
my strong suits, but through this course I catered my creativity to compose a variety of essays
and speeches. Likewise, public speaking is something that I did not struggle with in the past, yet
the structure of the class required a video speeches which was fairly new to me. All in all, I have
been able to identify and modify gaps in my composition of writingand speechas a result of this
course.
In high school, I took both AP English Language and AP English Literature. These courses
prepared me well for college composition courses, but left me in the dark regarding the personal
style development in writing and writing patterns. I was trapped in the high school, five paragraph
essay form that constricted my thoughts for so long. Discourse 300 enabled me to move past the
form and explore new ways to compose writing. This in turn has made my thoughts more complex
and concise. I have learned to sustain a logical argument in a much more organized manner and
justify it as well. My writing was finally rid of all the fluff and padding that was a necessity in high
school to reach a word count. Another improvement I made

Power, Corrupts, Society s Demands For Moral Authority
Because power corrupts, society s demands for moral authority and character increase as the
importance of the position increases. ~John Adams
The quote above has lot of meaning and relates in many ways to my analysis of how power is
portrayed in television. There are a lot of power players and shot callers that can dominate the
scene. How much power is could truly be shown in television show? How much power does the
society have on conflicts in a relationship? Is there such a thing as a power struggle in television
shows? Does the triggering event of a conflict determine the type of power and what tactics are
used to resolve? Mahatma Gandhi says Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of
punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more
effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment. Based on Gandhi s idea
of power does the characters of Scandal act in love or out of fear? In this paper I will examined the
triggering event in several episodes of Scandal to determine the type of power and tactic of the
main power player.
Literature Review
Power is defined as the ability to influence and control events. This power is recognized by the
social power that stems from the relationships among people. Social philosopher Hannah Arendt

I would perform a consumer survey to help determine what the intended popualtion knows about
prostate cancer. This survey would also be available to women to fill out, this is just one way to
help make sure that our intended population gets some of the important information on prostate
cancer. Performing a consumer survey either by using s computer or by handing them out, will

uses the most, what are we wasting our time on, how much money can we save. Another tool I
would use is the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) to help measure engagement.
After all the marketing tools have been implemented and the intended population has been reached,
I would use a surveillance system to help monitor various factors over an extended amount of time
(U.S. Department of Health and Human Services [HHS], Center for Disease Control and

Overpopulation Essay
Stories of current times could sound surreal to citizens of the year 2552. Tales of water coming

even the most resilient organisms. At the poles, it is so cold that the fuel lines in vehicles freeze

Life expectancy, standard of living, and world economies will begin an apocalyptic down spiral
(Living Planet Report 2002).Throughout the next four decades, 97 percent of the population growth
will take place in developing countries where governments are already facing social and economic
issues. Water shortages are going to be the main issue as populationincreases(Hoevel). However,
seeing as surviving and reproducing are top priorities in these regions, they have little time to spare

The difference between humans and locusts though, is that once we strip earth of all she s worth,
we have nowhere else to migrate. Overpopulation would take time to develop. It would also take
the negligence of governments and citizens. There are several different routes that could be taken
to prevent or alleviate the negative effects of overpopulation. Overpopulation is avoidable with
governments help and could be delayed or even avoided in multiple ways. Regrettably, governments
are more tied up with economies, foreign affairs, and policy making to spare the man power to

Examples Of Stereotypes In The Simpsons
One of the beloved grandfathers of television history has been Grandpa Abraham Simpson from
The Simpsons who demonstrates how we interact with the geriatric population in America.
Although Grandpa Simpson shows up in many gags throughout the series, I will be focusing on

Grandpa vs. Sexual Inadequacy focuses on the relationship between Grandpa Simpson and his son,
Homer, while he helps Homer s intimacy issues. The Front involves his grandchildren, Bart and

older characters on television shows are portrayed in a negative light and The Simpsonsare no

General Motors Oligopoly Essay
The average level of profit per annum is approximately $5.02 billion USD. As shown by the table
above, the average revenue, $39 256.20, is significantly greater than the average total costs,34
289.20. Although we cannot ascertain what the level of normal profit for General Motors truly is,
considering the revenue earned is approximately $5 billion greater than the total costs, General
Motors is clearly charging significantly more for vehicles than just the price that covers costs.
Thus there is a presence of abnormal profits proving that the firm is operating in an oligopolistic
market. Additionally, the firm s ability to charge a significantly greater price for each unit sold,
shows its price making behavior in the industry. Often firms will drive down prices to intentionally
ensure new entrants in the market cannot sustain this loss of revenue. However the fact that there
has not been any significant price reductions in the past years of operation proves that the threat of
competition is not enough to force prices down towards normal profit levels and there are thus high
barriers to entry.
3. Non Price Competition
As previously discussed, prices in the automotive industry tend to stick at their current set price
and only increase or decrease within a small range. Since firms in an oligopoly do not compete by
adjusting the price of their products, they compete using non price related methods.
To begin, one way in which General Motors broadens its consumer base is

What Is The Treaty Of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles resembles more of a forceful ultimatum than a peace treaty between
nations. The United States president Woodrow Wilson himself privately admitted that he would
have refused to sign the Treaty of Versailles if he were a German (1). Although, the Treaty of
Versailles was meant to be the core of the peace settlement after World War I
it did very little in
serving as a peace treaty. Possibly because the Germans input were not asked for during the
negotiations of the Treaty of Versailles, furthermore, the Germans had only two options; sign the
treaty and be oppressed by the terms and conditions or do not sign and face invasion that would
lead to a war that they were not capable of winning. The treaty caused great resentment

Billy Bully
In the play The play of Kes by Barry Hines, the main character, Billy, is persistently bullied. He is
belittled, discouraged and threatened. This has hurt him mentally and physically to the point of
depression. The people who primarily bully him are Jud, his half brother, and Mr. Gryce the
principal. Jud, who is Billy s older half brother, taunts and terrorizes him daily. Jud enjoys
sending threats towards Billy such as I ll murder you when I get home. which implies that Billy
will get hurt later on (physical abuse). Also, this will traumatize Billy and make him live for the
rest of the day in fear, anxiety and distress for what might happen to him. The word murder
increases the intensity of what Jud had said and shows that he resorts to physically abusing his
brother.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gryce, the school principal. Mr. Gryce has a special disliking toward Billy and hurts him both
mentally and physically; for daydreaming, he shouts at Billy you ll be tired when I m finished
with you and later on goes to give two strokes each. The phrase when I m finished with you
emphasizes the point that Gryce will abuse Billy later on, overwhelming him with trauma and fear.
In that time and age, corporal punishment was considered ordinary. However, corporal punishment
is only hitting the leg, not belittling and verbally abusing children. For the second quote, some of
the audience might justify Gryce s actions as corporal punishment. The play wright has done this to
show that even teachers can be using the law for their evil actions. The word finished highlights the
fact that Gryce will continue to abuse him and that he isn t going to let him off so easily. Gryce
might be using corporal punishment as a pass to bully and punish students he despises. In contrast
to the other students that were there (three smokers, Mac Dowell), Billy had done nothing wrong or
even worth punishment which means that Gryce is accusing and abusing an innocent

This kind of poetry represents beauty, love, nature, sensuality, drinking, and elegance. It is filled
with direct language, expressions, and images. Most of cavalier poetry go with the expressions
Carpe Diem translating to seize the day. They mostly focused on what meant the most to them in
the life such as day to day activities. Most Cavalier poets were courtiers.
In 1598 Jonson had acquired sufficient reputation to be accounted by Francis Meres one of the
best for tragedy, but Meres basis for such a pronouncement can now is but a subject of
conjecture. By the end of September in 1598 his comedy was established by writing the play
Every Man in His Humor. He then came out with Every Man out of His Humor in 1599. Jonson
started writing on a play with Chapman and Marston called Eastward Ho! They were all sent to

Three Principles Of Distributive Justice
People see distributive justice through different views. The distribution of goods (or attention,
praise, etc.) is analyzed in different ways by different people. There are three principles of
distributive justice, these principles are equity, equality and need. Equity pertains to people getting
goods or rewards in direct relation to the work they put in or what is perceived to be of greater
importance. For example, a star player in the pro league may deserve higher pay then his/her
teammate who warms the bench. Though the two earn different amounts of salary, there is
distributive justice (equity) in that they are being fairly paid in correspondence to their
contributions to the team. Equality on the other hand, means equal rewards for everyone... Show

It can be said that altruism is the opposite of selfishness. One who is altruistic is concerned with the
welfare of others without expectations of anything in return. ABS CBN s slogan: In the Service
of the Filipino Worldwide comes off as very altruistic. I mean, they are for the service of all
Filipinos with no intention of getting anything in return right? Maybe. Maybe not. This is not
to say that ABS CBN does not actually care for the Filipino people. As with many psychological
theories and concepts, the psychology of helping is complex and multi faceted. For one, there
are different motivations to why people help. Let us discuss these in relation to ABS CBN s
slogan. Apart from altruism, there are three other kinds of motivations. Collectivism in regard to
helping is serving the community to benefit a certain group or collective of people. The group
can range from 2 people to 2 billion. When one is part of a group, there is a tendency to not only
want to help and better your group, there is a tendency to feel indebted to help simply because you
are part of the group. Either way it is the motivation to help because of being part of particular
collection of people. ABS CBN can easily have collectivism as its motive, wanting to enhance
and empower the Filipino people and society of which they belong to as a corporation. Their slogan
can be seen as valuing the welfare of the Filipino people, a collective ABS CBN most

The Impact Of The Military Revolution On Japan
A military revolution started in sixteenth century in Europe with the introduction of firearms
(Stavros 243). Before the military revolution, Japan was divided in region and controlled by
different warlords and the country was politically unstable. However, after the arrival of firearms
from the West, Japan has changed dramatically. The result of the military revolution was the
development of a strong central power, which helped Japan become a modern nation (McNeill and
McNeill 197). Oda Nobunaga, a military leader, and his successor, Toyotomi Hideyoshiwas able to
unify Japan under a single powerful, central government and brought political stability (Brown

The extensive production of muskets and ammunition helped economy grow rapidly. As the
demand for guns grew, skilled gunsmiths established schools and workshops to train men and
numerous numbers of shops started to emerge throughout Japan. Sakai and Yokkaichi and
Kunitomo became especially well known as the center of manufacturer of firearms. According
to the writing by a Portuguese explorer, Japan was able to produce a large number of guns just
within two or three years and there were over 300,000 guns by 1556 (Brown 238). The
construction of the Osaka Castle stimulated greater industrial and commercial business. This
castle was built to express Hideyoshi s power but another contributing factor was the usage of
artillery in siege warfare (Brown 249). In 1586, the Osaka Castle was completed. The walls of
the castle consist of large granite stones that were about 10 feet wide and 40 feet long and the
total thickness of the wall is 18 to 21 feet. The eight storied castle had iron covered gates and
roofs and the base of the castle was mainly made out of stone (Brown 248). These large quantities
of high quality materials contributed to the flow of economy. In addition, the movement of large
number of soldiers to long distance places also contributed in economy (Brown

  • 2. Wall Of Jerusalem Research Paper When Nehemiah heard that the wall of Jerusalem was broken down and the gates were burned by fire (Neh 1:3), he wept. Now it s our turn. Stand in the midst of your city. See the rooftops and the church steeples; even in the larger cities see the skyscrapers. These are the walls of our cities. The church steeples are our town towers. Look closely. Ask for spiritual eyes. What do we see? There is death and destruction all around. There is sadness, loss and emptiness. The walls of our own cities have fallen just like Jerusalem. The city guards have deserted their posts. Our gates have also been burned burned by the fire of hell. Satan has infiltrated our cities, causing pain, heartache and disaster. • 3. Corporate Capacity And Authority Corporate capacity and authority were essential legal concepts which contained rules for when and how a company ought to be legally recognised as having validly acted and entered into a binding contract with third parties. Broadly speaking, the rules which applied to corporate capacity were the ultra vires doctrine and the doctrine of constructive notice. In regard to the concept of corporate authority, both the ultra vires doctrine and the doctrine of constructive notice also applied however their application was curtailed by the Turquand rule. The Turquand rule therefore only applied when the authority of directors was in question. A definitional overview of the concepts of corporate capacity and authority will be provided below, along with brief description of the doctrine of constructive notice and the Turquand rule. The thesis deals with the above concepts and discusses how the Companies Act 71 of 2008 (the Act) modified the law, particularly, by extending the legal capacity of a company and extinguishing or modifying the above rules which had previously restricted a company s ability... For a company to transact with third parties and to enter into valid business dealings there must be a valid contract concluded in order to create legally binding obligations enforceable between the company and the third party. For a contract to be valid the company must have the requisite legal capacity to enter into the contract and the directors or officers representing the company must have the authority to act on its behalf. Within company law, capacity and authority are interrelated principles however it is important to note that each is an entirely different and separate legal concept from the other. • 4. Health Benefits And The Business Aspects Of The Beloved... Coffee My topic of choice is coffee. I personally drink a large amount of it everyday. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I wanted my topic to be. Coffee is something I enjoy everyday and am curiosity about. At one time I wanted to open my own coffee shop. That dream is dead, but I still enjoy the beverage, often in a hip, public place surrounded by friends. I believe this topic will keep me focused and interested and enlighten me on current arguments and facts. I am interested in the health benefits and the business aspects of the beloved brew. I had an intention at one time of pursuing nutrition as a degree, so health information intrigues me. Currently, I am considering business as a degree plan. Researching the business aspect may help prepare me for that future and give me a glimpse at what business entails. On a humorous note, I know I will need large doses of caffeine to make it through my college career, so I would like to know my limits. I have read many times over the last few years that coffee is good for you. Others tell me often that it is not, to which I tell them it is, based on material I have read, but not researched. I do not recall much material stating that it is bad, but I know it is out there. Part of my research paper will be in pursuit of finding the facts about the health benefits and harms of the brew. From my limited reading in the past, I have learned that it naturally contains antioxidants that fight free radicals in your body, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Alexis De Tocqueville s Democracy In America Alexis De Tocqueville wrote Democracy in America while visiting the country from France. During his stay, he observed the government and its strengths and flaws. He recorded his findings and published them in Democracy in America. His book details many aspects of the American government, but is most notably known for his opinion on the tyranny of the majorityand the potential despotism that could arise. Tocqueville s concerns for the American government could be seen as addressed in the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment. Tocqueville expresses the fear of a tyranny of the majority in a democracy. Tocqueville describes the idea of a majority by stating, it is the very essence of democratic government that the majority has absolute sway, for in a democracy nothing resists the majority, (Vol. 1, PT 2, Chapter 7 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ratification of this amendment applied the Bill of Rights to the states. In doing so, Tocqueville s concern of a tyranny of the majority at the state level is now combatted. He established his view that the creation of the United States Constitution involved more intelligence than the development of state constitutions. He believed that the national constitution discussed factions in a more effective way. With the enumerated regulations on factions now applying to the states, the possibility of the majority gaining too much power is now diminishing. The lack of protections within the states is now no more. The Fourteenth Amendment protects the rights of the people without giving administrative power to the federal government, but gives more power to the federal government. Though the federal government is gaining some power, decentralization of the administration persists. This eliminates the fear that the majority can do away with the minority s rights, as well as have centralized power that includes legislative and implementation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparison Between Good And Evil In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Good Vs. Evil in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde The battle line between good and evil runs through the heart of every man. (Solzhenitsyn) In the story Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, Dr.Jekyll has this battle of good and evil within himself. He has the idea to separate his evil half known as Mr. Hyde with a potion. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde focuses on duality of man and human nature. Stevenson develops the theme of good and evilthroughout the story using the setting, characters, and the city of London. In the beginning of the story Mr. Utterson, a lawyer, and Mr. Enfield, a doctor, are taking their normal sunday stroll, as they are walking they pass by a house that catches their attention. This house seems out of place, to be in the neighborhood they re in because they are in a richer neighborhood and the door on the house looks old and rugged. Which reminds Mr.Enfield of a story of a girl whom he witnessed getting trampled one night, and how he made the evil man who trampled her pay money to cover what he had done. The trampling of the girl is represented as an evil thing. Strangely, the check contained the name of a very respectable man which aroused Enfield s suspicions about the check. Enfield refuses to reveal the name on the check. However we find out that the evil man is actually Hyde and he wrote a check signed by Jekyll. No one has heard of Mr. Hyde so Mr. Utterson makes it his mission to find out more about Mr. Hyde. Utterson is a lawyer and, in fact he is Dr. Jekyll s lawyer he opens a safe that had Jekyll s will in it. He looks over it for a long time. The terms in the will say all of the doctor s possessions are to pass into the hands of his friend Edward Hyde if Dr. Jekyll disappears or has an unexplained absence. Utterson goes to visit Dr. Lanyon. He thinks that Lanyon can explain Dr. Jekyll s relationship to Hyde. Lanyon greets his friend into his home, and the two men talk for a while till Utterson says to Lanyon that they are probably two of the oldest friends that Henry Jekyll has. Lanyon replies that he hasn t seen much of Jekyll for years, ever since Jekyll ...became too fanciful... and ...wrong in mind... (Stevenson,11).Which infers something of the evil act. ... Twenty Years at Hull-House Essay Twenty Years at Hull House Two Works Cited Victoria Bissell Brown s introduction to Twenty Years at Hull House explains the life of Jane Addams and her commitment to insight social change to problems that existed during the turn of the 20th century. As a reaction to the hardships of a changing industrial society, Addams decided to establish a settlement house in the West side of Chicago to help individuals who had suffered from the cruelties of industrialization. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the chapter, the author raises questions that were prevalent a century ago and that are still important today. The one question I found most interesting is, Can white, native born, economically secure Americans ever really understand, much less help, those who are struggling to survive? (1). Much of the prevalent political culture emphasized Aryan superiority, as well as the concern a changing society would suffer from massive immigration. Even authors, such as Charlotte Perkins Gilman, recognized the oppression she suffered from as a woman. However, she did not recognize the oppression others suffered in her embracing of anti immigration as well as racist beliefs. Reactionary to the massive immigration of this time, Charlotte Perkins Gilman also supported eugenics to improve the human race. Yet Addams did not argue immigrants were inferior to the Aryan people. In fact, three quarters of her residents at Hull House were first and second generation immigrants. Not only was Addams sympathetic to the poor, but she also was sympathetic to the plight of immigrants. I find Jane Addams s commitment to social change extraordinary. To answer the question stated previously, I would say, Yes, because Jane Addams was not under any pressure or obligation to help the poor, especially at a time when the dominant belief was ... My great difficulty to speak up all began at the young age of nine in the fourth grade. This had later on affected by ability to speak up, bringing me to where I am now, a girl who can talk your ears off, but could never speak up for herself once faced against authority. The solution to my problem consist of learning to speak my mindeven when faced against threatening authority. Being a social butterfly with the difficulty to speak her mind may seem contradictory, however the causes of past experience provide evidence. Main causes for self struggles include my upbringing and insecurities. My upbringing from a Hispanic household had influenced my understanding of adults to be respected and not to question their authority. What my parents said was law, no questions about it. Respect slowly turned to fear as I grew older due to consequences and punishments I received. My insecurities slowly conquered my thoughts at the age of 10, preventing me from speaking to any adult. Since the beginning of the reality show phenomenon critics have been debating that reality televisionis nothing more than highly scripted flavored up televisionthat attracts viewers with the allure of dramatic flare and sex appeal. Is reality television negatively effecting the perception of self and genderroles in young women who are viewing it? According to research done at the University of Michigan, 71% of 8 18 year olds have a TV in their bedroom and in 53% of those households there is no restriction on TV viewing (Boyse). With the female population under 18 years of age soaring at 74,181,467 (US Census), it is obvious that a large portion of young females are viewing these reality television programs. According to another study done at Oregon State University, reality TV statistics point out that 68% 18 29 year olds watch reality television (Oregon). The age at which a woman starts having menstrual periods is not related to the age of menopause onset. When does a woman know she is in menopause? In order to be menopausal, a woman must have had no menstrual periods (menses) for 12 months and have no other medical reason for her menses to stop. Therefore, a woman cannot know she is menopausal unless she has not had a menstrual period for 12 months. Are hormone levels or other blood tests helpful in detecting menopause? Because hormone levels may fluctuate greatly in an individual woman, even from one day to the next, hormone levels are not a reliable indicator for diagnosing menopause. Even if levels are low one day, they may be high the next day in the same woman. Although hormone levels of several blood tests are available, there is no particular single blood test yet that reliably allows a doctor to predict when a women is going to go through menopause in the future, or if she is experiencing the beginning of the menopausal transition. At present, there is no proven role for blood testing regarding menopause except for tests to exclude medical causes of erratic menstrual periods other than menopause. The only way to diagnose menopause is to observe lack of menstrual periods for 12 months in a woman in the expected age range. *What are the symptoms of menopause? The symptoms of menopause can be divided into early and late onset symptoms. Treatment is directed toward ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exposure over prolonged periods of time to radon decay products has been associated with an increased risk of lung cancer.(3) The EPA describes an elevated concentration as being at or above their suggested guidelines of 4pCi/l (pico Curies per liter, used as a radiation unit of measure for radon). Uranium and its by products of decay, namely radon are abundant and are constantly being generated.(13) Radon is capable of easily traveling through rocks and soil.(14) The gas is also found dissolved in water, due to decay in the soil or rock below.(15) Radon in Water The risk from radon in water is much lower than the risk from radon in air. This is because the water must be heated or agitated to release the gas. This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site and the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Most water that contains hazardous amounts of radon comes from wells. Wells should be tested for radon if the building that they are supplying contains hazardous amounts in the air. The testing procedures for water are different from those used on air.(16) Water containing radon can usually be treated. The most effective treatment is to remove radon from the water before it enters the home, this is called point of entry treatment. Water can also be treated at the tap, this is known as point of use treatment. However this treatment is much less effective at removing the risk.(17) Radon Entry Radon travels through the ground and into the air, allowing the gas to easily enter buildings and homes. ... The period between 1929 and 1939, Americans from all over were struggling to just get by. The struggles people faced put a strain on families and even themselves. People during the Great Depressionwere often ashamed, humiliated, and lost their sense of self worth. In Maslow s hierarchy esteem is considered a high order need, to establish that you must meet other needs like physiological needs, a sense of safety, and belonging. When those needs are not met the person will lose their self esteem. People in America during this time struggled with their self esteem and they had difficulty when trying to find purpose. That struggle results in broken families, and an increase in the homeless population. The inability to find jobs violates the sense of financial safety associated with Maslow s hierarchy. During this time it wasn t just the homeless and downtrodden that felt ashamed it was also the people providing relief to them, due to the prodding required. Prior to the Great Depression life was one of excess and buying on credit for most Americans. They had a certain persona that they wanted to show off to people. Hamlet s madness is less than madness and more than feigned . What is madness? Mad is a word with such uncertainty that it can be stretched to mean an abundance of things more than just pure psychological instability: a weariness of life; a suicidal impulse; a plotting charisma. In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, a wild disagreement has been consequent for a series of years in the case of the madness of Hamlet, the play s central narrative, was justifiable or feigned. As in any decision, one must be given both sides of the controversy before making an impartial conclusion. The case of Hamlet s madness is no exclusion. Throughout the course of this semester, my writing style has evolved and I have rid my writing of many habitual mistakes. I have learned to appreciate writing much more, and enjoy the moments where my mind meets words on a paper. Creativity has always been one of my strong suits, but through this course I catered my creativity to compose a variety of essays and speeches. Likewise, public speaking is something that I did not struggle with in the past, yet the structure of the class required a video speeches which was fairly new to me. All in all, I have been able to identify and modify gaps in my composition of writingand speechas a result of this course. In high school, I took both AP English Language and AP English Literature. These courses prepared me well for college composition courses, but left me in the dark regarding the personal style development in writing and writing patterns. I was trapped in the high school, five paragraph essay form that constricted my thoughts for so long. Discourse 300 enabled me to move past the form and explore new ways to compose writing. This in turn has made my thoughts more complex and concise. I have learned to sustain a logical argument in a much more organized manner and justify it as well. My writing was finally rid of all the fluff and padding that was a necessity in high school to reach a word count. Another improvement I made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Power, Corrupts, Society s Demands For Moral Authority Because power corrupts, society s demands for moral authority and character increase as the importance of the position increases. ~John Adams The quote above has lot of meaning and relates in many ways to my analysis of how power is portrayed in television. There are a lot of power players and shot callers that can dominate the scene. How much power is could truly be shown in television show? How much power does the society have on conflicts in a relationship? Is there such a thing as a power struggle in television shows? Does the triggering event of a conflict determine the type of power and what tactics are used to resolve? Mahatma Gandhi says Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment. Based on Gandhi s idea of power does the characters of Scandal act in love or out of fear? In this paper I will examined the triggering event in several episodes of Scandal to determine the type of power and tactic of the main power player. Literature Review Power is defined as the ability to influence and control events. This power is recognized by the social power that stems from the relationships among people. Social philosopher Hannah Arendt (1969) states that Power is never the property of an individual; it belongs to a group and remains in existence only long as the groups keep together. The team focused on their intended population in which they wanted to market preventative care for prostate exams, and received all the information they needed to successfully make that happen. What I believe went wrong is that the forgot to look at outside resources, influences and environments, these men are in. The group could have considered what type of influences were put upon the men to go to the doctors in the first place. We should always look outside the box, inside the box, making sure we are addressing all the influences of health behavior actions. Evaluation Tools I would perform a consumer survey to help determine what the intended popualtion knows about prostate cancer. This survey would also be available to women to fill out, this is just one way to help make sure that our intended population gets some of the important information on prostate cancer. Performing a consumer survey either by using s computer or by handing them out, will allow us to see what type of marketing needs to be done. What are the outlets that our populations uses the most, what are we wasting our time on, how much money can we save. Another tool I would use is the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) to help measure engagement. After all the marketing tools have been implemented and the intended population has been reached, I would use a surveillance system to help monitor various factors over an extended amount of time (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services [HHS], Center for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] ,2011). These factors would be how many men are going to get their prostates checked every fours years, who makes their appointments, how many prostate cancers screenings come back negative or ... Tales of water coming out of the ground, fuel sources called fossil fuels, or vast areas covered in trees would all be stories around the virtual campfire. Lands once known as Africa have become uninhabitable to even the most resilient organisms. At the poles, it is so cold that the fuel lines in vehicles freeze in eleven seconds. The descendants of seven billion people currently inhabiting this world would be faced with hard times if we fail to take action. Water shortages are going to be the main issue as populationincreases(Hoevel). However, seeing as surviving and reproducing are top priorities in these regions, they have little time to spare thinking about the environment and future generations. Overpopulation of humans is similar to a locust swarm. The locusts strip their habitat of all they find useful, then move on to the next area. The difference between humans and locusts though, is that once we strip earth of all she s worth, we have nowhere else to migrate. Overpopulation would take time to develop. It would also take the negligence of governments and citizens. There are several different routes that could be taken to prevent or alleviate the negative effects of overpopulation. Overpopulation is avoidable with governments help and could be delayed or even avoided in multiple ways. Regrettably, governments are more tied up with economies, foreign affairs, and policy making to spare the man power to worry about issues that aren t pressing on their doorstep. • 41. Examples Of Stereotypes In The Simpsons One of the beloved grandfathers of television history has been Grandpa Abraham Simpson from The Simpsons who demonstrates how we interact with the geriatric population in America. Although Grandpa Simpson shows up in many gags throughout the series, I will be focusing on three episodes where he and the other senior citizens of Springfield are involved in the main plot. Grandpa vs. Sexual Inadequacy focuses on the relationship between Grandpa Simpson and his son, Homer, while he helps Homer s intimacy issues. The Front involves his grandchildren, Bart and Lisa, using Abraham s name to submit scripts to their favorite cartoon. The Old Man and the C Student showcases the other residents at Grandpa s retirement home where Bart is forced to volunteer. These episodes hold accurate representations of our perception of the elderly. Often, older characters on television shows are portrayed in a negative light and The Simpsonsare no exception. • 42. General Motors Oligopoly Essay The average level of profit per annum is approximately $5.02 billion USD. As shown by the table above, the average revenue, $39 256.20, is significantly greater than the average total costs,34 289.20. Although we cannot ascertain what the level of normal profit for General Motors truly is, considering the revenue earned is approximately $5 billion greater than the total costs, General Motors is clearly charging significantly more for vehicles than just the price that covers costs. Thus there is a presence of abnormal profits proving that the firm is operating in an oligopolistic market. Additionally, the firm s ability to charge a significantly greater price for each unit sold, shows its price making behavior in the industry. Often firms will drive down prices to intentionally ensure new entrants in the market cannot sustain this loss of revenue. However the fact that there has not been any significant price reductions in the past years of operation proves that the threat of competition is not enough to force prices down towards normal profit levels and there are thus high barriers to entry. 3. Non Price Competition As previously discussed, prices in the automotive industry tend to stick at their current set price and only increase or decrease within a small range. Since firms in an oligopoly do not compete by adjusting the price of their products, they compete using non price related methods. To begin, one way in which General Motors broadens its consumer base is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is not to say that ABS CBN does not actually care for the Filipino people. As with many psychological theories and concepts, the psychology of helping is complex and multi faceted.
