Abstract: Nowadays, using robots instead of humans in risk operations is an
interesting point in the field of robotics. In this paper we introduce an integrated
approach for search and rescue operation of detecting gas sources in large areas;
e.g. houses, factories, and labs. This aims at saving people s lives at bottlenecks
resulting from gas leak and ignition of fires. Experiment is performed using master
Khepera robot supplied with gas sensor circuit to search map, in addition to two slave
Khepera supplied with gripper to take the best path to clinch the victim.
Moreover, this paper proposes an improvement of Albers exploration algorithm to
reduce the time required to explore unknown map with different polygon obstacles.
The proposed approach aims to minimizing the overall exploration time, making it
possible to localize fire sources in an efficient way, as demonstrated in
Vrep simulation as well as real world experiments with Khepera III robot. A
comparison among different algorithms has showed the effectiveness of the
proposed one where the percentage of performance speedup is about 30% to 57%
depending on size of the map and number of obstacles.

role in society. Misogyny is defined as dislike, contempt or prejudice against
women (Oxford Dictionary 2017). Both speculative and realist fiction present
misogyny in one way by portraying women as a damsel in distress. In these genres
of fiction, there is also a tendency to objectify and sexualise women, in that they are
not seen as people with real human emotions, needs and wants, but as objects of a

Introduction In this paper, I will summarize part 3 Why Do Prison Conditions Matter?
and part 4 Contemporary Lessons from Maconochie s Experiment of Maconochie s
Gentlemen, written by Norval Morris (Morris, 2002). I will then provide a critical
analysis of Maconochie and the Norfolk Island Prison reform story to current
correctional practices.
Summary
In part 3, Morris (2002, p.171) discusses why prison conditions matter and why penal
reformers, including himself, have devoted their lives and travelled thousands of miles
Maconochie was limited in this stage as he had no control over total release on
Norfolk Island. What he had control over was a ticket of leave on the island where
the prisoners continued to be supervised but in a less stringent manner. Although
Maconochie had success on a limited scale and it had not been fully proven, it
appeared in modern times that gradual release of prisoners was an attractive
formula. However, at the end of the 1990s, there was not enough political support
and funding at the time to further explore this issue due to the excessive amount of
prisoners being released into society as a result of overcrowding. The only
exception was sexual offenders, where extensive controls have been implemented but
unfortunately these were not controls to help deal with their problems but controls
to revoke their freedom. Morris (2002, p.197) believes Maconochie s release and
aftercare concepts should be the foundation of designing a program that gradually
integrates prisoners under supervision back into society as law abiding citizens.
