Family Violence Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of family violence is undeniably a challenging task. This is not
merely an exercise in assembling facts and presenting them coherently; it demands a delicate
balance between conveying the severity of the issue and maintaining a compassionate,
empathetic tone. The intricacy lies in addressing a topic that is not only sensitive but also deeply
personal for many individuals.
Researching family violence necessitates delving into distressing statistics, exploring
psychological and sociological aspects, and confronting the multifaceted nature of abusive
relationships. The emotional toll of comprehending the experiences of those affected by family
violence adds another layer of complexity. The challenge is not only to articulate the gravity of
the issue but also to offer insights into prevention and support, encouraging a constructive
dialogue on how to break the cycle.
Furthermore, the responsibility of avoiding stigmatization while emphasizing the urgency of
intervention makes the writing process intricate. Striking a balance between highlighting the
prevalence of family violence and offering solutions without oversimplifying the issue is a
delicate tightrope walk.
In conclusion, composing an essay on family violence requires a nuanced approach, blending
academic rigor with sensitivity. It calls for an understanding of the intricate dynamics at play, an
acknowledgment of the emotional weight carried by the subject matter, and an unwavering
commitment to fostering awareness and change.

Delaware Aqueduct
CASE STUDIES
The two projects highlighted are the Delaware Aqueduct in upstate New York and the
Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado. Both projects were an evolution in tunnel design
and methods used were from lessons learned on past tunneling ventures.
Both projects were a high priority at the time of construction and were primarily the
result of increasing demand for resources and mobility. The purpose of the Delaware
Aqueduct is to transport water from upstate New York to provide the water needs of
New York cityfor millions of people. The Eisenhower Tunnel was constructed as one
of the last parts of the interstate highway system which started growing in the 1950 s
under the Eisenhower administration.

They re also a warning about the challenges New York City will confront in coming
years to keep its world class water system running.
Admitting to the holes
It has been 57 years since anybody got a decent peer inside the Delaware Aqueduct,
which begins toward one side of the Rondout Reservoir in Ulster County and runs 45
miles toward the West Branch Reservoir outside of Carmel, then turns south for the
once over to the Kensico Reservoir in Valhalla. From the Kensico, its water moves to
the ultraviolet purification plant in Eastview, onto the Hillview Reservoir in Yonkers
and afterward into the tunnels that feed the city s mains.
Opened in 1944, the water gathers water from four repositories crosswise over
1,000 square miles and can convey up to 900 million gallons of water a day, yet, for
the most part, handles around 66% of that, all fueled by gravity on a course that
dives as deep as 2,300 feet beneath the
Noah s Piety In The Play
In the York Corpus Christi Plays, many of the characters are so over top, so
remarkably buffoonish that those characters are ultimately quite comedic in effect.
To a modern audience, a comedic biblical character may seem blasphemous it may
seem morally wrong to laugh at Jesus s executioners as they struggle to crucify
Christianity s most important figure. However, when examining exactly how those
characters function in the play, the comedic nature of those characters may not be
wholly blasphemous in effect. For example, do those comedic executioners only
make the audience laugh at Jesus s crucifixion, or do they emphasize Jesus s calm
and solemn nature? Similarly, plays about Noah s ark and the great flood include
comedic characters, yet those plays do not feel totally blasphemous. Instead, the
inclusion of a variety of characters in these plays seems more nuanced. In the York
Corpus ChristiPlay The Building of the Ark, Noah s piety is established through his
undying trust in God and his general... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout his encounter with God, Noah does not question God s intentions or
his plan. The only thing Noah questions is his own ability to perform such great
actions (which is, again, related to his pious humility), never God s general plan.
God explains to him his plan, and Noah ends the play by telling God that he will
go and fulfill God s wishes: Abowte this werke now bus me wende, (PAGE #, l.
148). Not only is Noah humble, he is also obedient and trusts in his God. In
attributing Noah s piety to humility, trust in God, obedience, and gratitude, The
Building of the Ark subsequently praises these attributes and establishes them as
virtues. Thus, the play not only categorizes Noah as pious (and explains what
exactly makes him a pious character), the play also makes the public aware of how
one can become pious like

Indi The Longest Time Of Development
The period since 1991 is the longest time of development that Australia has recorded
for at any rate the previous century. The following longest period amid which year
finished development stayed positive was the 13 years somewhere around 1961 and
1974.1 In the 1970s and 1980s, development stages commonly endured just seven or
eight years before another subsidence hit.
As I said, no other created economy has encountered continuous development in the
course of recent years. Actually, numerous created economies have encountered two
scenes of negative development amid that period: one in 2001 after the breakdown
of the website air pocket; and one in 2008 after the breakdown of the US sub prime
lodging air pocket. Indeed, even between the ... Show more content on

The China story has been huge just in the course of recent years; the vast majority of
its noteworthiness still lies ahead. Keep in mind that the nation that was our principle
fare business sector, Japan, has encountered exceptionally quelled monetary
development in the course of recent years, and that few other of our Asian
exchanging accomplices encountered an extremely serious financial emergency in
the 1990s. I would in this manner infer that our fortunes has been to some degree
blended, and we have to look to different variables to clarify Australia s great
development execution.
I won t put on a show to have the capacity to give a nitty gritty examination of these
components in the brief timeframe accessible today, however I would like to
highlight a few variables I think have been imperative. These are the expanded
adaptability of the Australian economy and the quest for reasonable and restrained
money related arrangements.
The Australian economy in the course of recent years has demonstrated a more
prominent level of adaptability than was the situation in the 1970s and 1980s. This
has made it stronger to the different outside stuns that have been experienced over
the period: the Asian emergency; the breakdown of the website bubble; and the late
crumple of the US sub prime credit rise, to name a portion of the more serious.
One of the key components in that adaptability has been the
Concert Promoter Is Live Nation
but also creates connections that can make an artist more successful as a band
with collaborators than just by themselves. It cannot be certain if this will be as
easy and profitable as sharing music through a major label, but it is a way for an
artist to keep their rights to their songs and work (Cayari, 2011). This solution is a
very risky one, but it can be very successful as well. Becoming a YouTube star leads
to more lucrative avenues such as TV appearances and movie deals (Curien Moreau,
2009). Whatever the outcome, the success and money will take longer than if the
artist were given a contract.
In order to get away from the demeaning obligations of the 360deal some artists have
signed instead with concert promoters, another ... Show more content on

The other advantages to signing with Live Nation is that they are an Artist Nation;
this means they believe in being a partner to the artist and assist in managing a
variety of rights, fanbases, touring, and provide direct connection to fans. Unlike
the 360 deal, Artist Nation does not confiscate publishing from the artist, which is a
big revenue stream typically. In turn, this provides the artist with more income. The
major areas that Live Nation profits from are: recorded music, merchandising, fan
sites and ticketing, broadcast rights, sponsorship, marketing, and digital rights
management. This may seem like a lot, but the percentage they take is about 6% in
each of these areas. The biggest percentage Live Nation takes is from ticket sales
because that is what they are known for and that is the money making part of the
business for most artists. A disadvantage to Live Nation is they lack licensing and
distribution like record labels however, sometimes a deal can be made through a
record label just for distribution purposes. Although Live Nation lacks in certain
areas that major labels have; they are making agreements with other companies such
as, Ticketmaster, to help their artists as well as themselves to become successful. One
of these strategies involves ticketing and fan clubs. The core of the music industry is
not albums or singles, but live performance; hence why Live Nation is
Doritos Goat 4 Sale Essay
Doritos Goat 4 sale is a commercial trying to sell the chips, Doritos. The commercial
starts off with a man buying a goat that eats Doritos and how much fun the man
and the goat have but, ends with the man who brought the goat trying to sell the
goat so he can keep all of the Doritos. Doritos Goat 4 Sale was humorous because a
goat was eating Doritos plus in the end the owner of the goat was trying to sell the
goat to keep all the Doritos. It was also funny when the goat screams when he sees
there is no more Doritos in the pantry just to find out his owner stole all of the
Doritos and was going to sell him. The commercial makes the advertiser s product

How Did The Roman Economy Affect The Provinces
Roman Economy and the Provinces Roman provinces had several effects on the
Roman economy. The provinces allowed for regular imports of grains, trades of
exotic goods, monetary tributes, and importation of slaves. These factors helped
fuel and strength the Roman economy. Grain was an important part of everyday
life, and Rome relied heavily on the provinces to supply the needed amount of grain.
The need to secure grain providing provinces was one of many important factors that
would lead to the expansion and conquests of the Roman State. (UNRV., n.d.). One
of the many reasons for the Roman conquests in the first place was to secure grain
supplies. The provinces would supply grains to Rome at a lower price than Roman
grain,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the imports that the provinces supplied were considered high grade. For
example, wine from Eygpt was considered to be the best, olive oil from southern
Spain was a luxury, and silk from India would have been an item only the rich
could afford (Cartwright, M., 2013, December 17). The provinces would also have
provided items such as spices, pottery, ivory, and terracotta. Importations of the
exotic items would have impacted the Roman economy by raising the values of
those items. Olive oil would have been more expensive because it would have a
higher value. Slaves and tributes benefited the Roman economy by allowing for
cheap labour and by providing money for the Roman treasury (Wasson, D., 2015,
November 29). Slavery impacted the Roman economy via cheap human labour
resources and slaves markets. Monterary tributes filled the Roman treasury, allowed
for Roman buildings, and pay for individuals holding public office. Conclusion; The
Roman economy was fueled by many factors, both foreign and domestic. It had
multiple avenues for income, from imports to exports, from taxes to tributes. There
was also many forms of labour available, allowing for competitiveness in the job
market. The economy of Rome had various factors impacting it, and each one needs
to be considered when trying to see how they collectively impacted

Joshua King had first heard of it while browsing through his favorite E paper The

The Growth Of The Australian Economy Essay
1.Introduction Suggesting any economic or policy reforms to the Australian
Economy requires us to understand the evolution of an economy and the factors
effecting it both intrinsically and globally. But even if we understand the changes,
how can we compare the before and the after? What are the best parameters in doing
so? What phenomenon is followed globally? This just summarizes one aspect of the
essay which is followed by policy recommendations by the author in the later half.
Though with the limited knowledge of the subject and experience the author has
suggested a policy recommendation which aims at resolving existing or possible
budding economic issues for Australia. 2.Limitations Considering vastness of the
study and limitations of words and understanding, the author has tried to cover most
of the parameters to judge the Australian economy in relation to the global economy
trends and its implications. However, some of the newer areas of economic
development have not been covered, specially in relation to the Australian economy.
One of the most economically disruptive phenomenon is that of Bitcoin and its
implications on the global economy. There are several other parameters and
phenomenon that could not be covered by the Author in relation to limitation of
time and words. 3.Economy a deeper understanding The Best Way To Asses an

Conflict In The Hopi Tribe
Two million years ago in what is now Arizona, there was a man in the Hopi tribe
called Ongtupqa who was the strongest digger out of every tribe in the area. Some
say that he could dig a hole 2 feet deep and wide in the blink of an eye. Anyways,
for a long time everything was calm around the tribe and everything went fine.
However, one day a war broke out between two of the surrounding tribes.
Frightened by this sudden conflict, the leaders of the Hopi tribe decided that the
tribe needed to relocate. And so the picked up all or their belongings, packed up the
tents they resided in, and went on a journey to find a suitable settlement. Two months
after they set off to find a new settlement, they found a large piece of land 272 miles

Subordinating conjunction in English
Causes, reasons and results. These are because, since, as, so, now that, seeing that.
These are subordinators that connect a cause or reason and a result. These
subordinating conjunctions usually explain that the action in the main clause are
caused by the action in the subordinating clause.

If I had done my homework, I would not have receive a minus point.
The meaning of unless is similar to if not. Eg. Unless you have an English

Contrasting. Common conjunctions include although, though, even though, even if,
whereas. These express the difference between the two ideas in the sentence. Though
is often used in speaking while although is much more common in writing. Even
though carries similar meaning to although but it makes a stronger contrast. (Carter,

Dreams And Imagined Visions By Tennyson
As early as the second section we are told of Hallam s final burial below a Yew,
whose fibres net the dreamless head of Hallam. Tennyson s choice to focus on the
dreamless aspect of his friend s skull above any other adjective such as lifeless or
thoughtless places an emphasis on dreams at an early point in the poem. Dreams act
as a place inbetween the hard, sometimes unbearable reality of Tennyson s loss and
the unreachable state of heaven that Hallam is in. Dreams and imagined visions are
the places where Tennyson is able to truly grapple both the pain caused by the loss of
his friend and the accompanying religious doubt.
It is one of these dreams that Tennyson comes into contact with a mysterious angel of
the night who transforms the symbolic crown of thorns he is wearing into leaf .
He reach d the glory of a hand, That seem d to touch it into leaf; The voice was not
the voice of grief, The words were hard to understand.
The angel mentioned could either be a version of the spirit of Arthur Hallam, with
which Tennyson enters into many passages of imagined dialogue, or a dreamt
version of a Christian angel, partaking in a transformative process. The ambiguity of
the situation is important, while it seems unlikely that it is Hallam s true spirit given
Tennyson s continuous desire for that very encounter in much of the rest of In
Memoriam the very suggestion combined with the restorative process of a positive
force provides a note of hope
The Presidential Election Of 1984
The United States presidential election of 1984 was the 50th quadrennial
presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 6, 1984. The presidential
race was between the incumbent Republican candidate, President Ronald Reagan,
and former Vice President Democratic candidate, Walter Mondale. Reagan was
helped in the election by a strong economic recovery from the deep recession of
1981 1982. Reagan carried 49 of the 50 states, becoming only the second presidential
candidate to do so after Richard Nixons victory in the 1972 presidential election.
Mondale s only electoral votes came from the District of Columbia, which has
always been considered a Democratic guarantee, and his home state of Minnesota
which he won by a mere 3761 votes, meaning Reagan came within 3800 votes of
winning all fifty states. Reagan s 525 electoral votes (out of 538) is the highest total
ever received by a presidential candidate. Mondale s 13 electoral votes is also the 2nd
fewest ever received by a second place candidate, second only to lf Landon s 8 in
1936. In the national popular vote, Reagan received 58.8% to Mondale s 40.6%

they attracted, more likely those voters would choose them as their president elect.

Synthesis of Isopentyl Acetate Via Fischer Esterification...
Experiment 1: Synthesis of Isopentyl Acetate via Fischer Esterification
Introduction: Isopentyl acetate, banana oil, is a naturally occurring compound that
has a very distinct and recognizable odor. It is most commonly found in bananas
but also can be found in other organisms. The purpose of this lab was to synthesize
the ester isopentyl acetate via an acid catalyzed esterification (Fischer
Esterification) of acetic acid with isopentyl alcohol. Emil Fischer and Arthur Speier
were the pioneers of this reaction referred to as Fischer Esterification. The reaction
is characterized by the combining of an alcohol and an acid (with an acid catalyst) to
yield and ester plus water. In order to accomplish the reaction, the reactants were...

Once cooled, the mixture was then transferred to a separatory funnel using the
funnel while avoiding adding the boiling chip. 10 ml of water was then added to
the mixture. The mixture was gently shaken and the phases were allowed to
separate. The funnel was then unstopped and the lower aqueous phase was drained
into a beaker. 5 ml of 5% aqueous NaHCO3 was added and then shaken gently. A
great deal of caution was taken into consideration because of the production of
carbon dioxide gas which caused pressure to develop inside the funnel. The
pressure needed to be released so the funnel was vented frequently. The phases
were allowed to separate and the lower aqueous phases was drained into the beaker.
After draining, 5 ml of saturated NaCl was added to the funnel and then shaken
gently. Once again, the phases were allowed to separate and the lower aqueous
phase was drained into a beaker. An ester product was produced and was transferred
into a 25 ml Erlenmeyer flask. This organic product was then dried over anhydrous
Na2SO4 to trap small amounts of water in its crystal lattices thus removing it from
the product. Finally the ester was decanted, so that the drying agent was excluded
from the final product. Results and Discussion: Fischer esterification is the primary
way of synthesizing this ester. The reactants involved in
Mission Command Principles
The Principles of Mission Command
Introduction
During 2003, General Petraeus and his soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division
had no clue of the astounding role they were about to embark on. General Petraeus
found the city of Mosul in complete destruction, and knew it would take a cohesive
effort through mutual trust and teamwork to restore the city. The city of Mosul did
not only need a complete make over, but also a regime that shared a mutual
understanding as Petraeus. Lastly, with the city rebuilding changes would bring
hostility and risk to the soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division. General David
Petraeus was successful in Mosul, because he applied the mission command control
principles of building cohesive teams, creating shared understanding, and accepting
prudent risk.
Building Cohesive Teams
The city of Mosul had taken a substantial amount of damage to its infrastructure, and
government and needed assistance from United States in a team effort to help
restore what had been lost. To have cohesive team work, you first must be able to

Understanding The Chinese Business Practices Essay
Conducting business in China necessitates a large amount of respect, patience,
humility, timing, cunning, knowledge, and a certain amount of aggression. The
knowledge that these are needed and that are to be used for success in negotiating is
virtually worthless unless you are aware of when and how to use them. The missing
of cue to change from being patient to aggressive, or being humble instead of
cunning, can make or break a negotiation instantaneously. Americans that aspire to
obtain a sector of the Chinese market must invest the time in understanding the
sources of Chinese culture and not just the culture itself. Within the adoption of
today s Chinese business practices, is insight into the ancient history of a culture that
has not just survived. This society has flourished longer than any other civilization
in the history mankind. The knowledge of only what we want to achieve from an
individual negotiation with a Chinese business person is very near sided and will
most certainly end in a poor relationship. Instead, there must be a firm understanding
of what the Chinese counterpart seeking from the partnership as well and be able to
anticipate their needs and wants. This is necessary because it is the very tactic that
will be used by one s Chinese counterpart. Chinais a massive nation that encompasses
over 3000 miles from east to west and 2500 miles from north to south. It contains a
wealth of different landscapes and an assortment of physical features. During
Academic Freedom
Academic freedom in Kenya
Freedom is a basic to education in modern democracies. Freedom in education can
be categorized in the various aspects such as; Freedom of the child, academic
freedom and freedom to read. Mc Garry and Ward, (1966) puts it: A free society
and a free world imply a free educational system and a freedom within the
framework of maximum control. In such a closed society they maintained, freedom
in education may consist of ability to say or do in consequential things. The legal
idea of academic freedom originated in Germany in 1850. The Prussian Constitution
declared that science and its teaching shall be free. In Germany, academic freedom is
known as the right of faculty to teach on any subject, that was freedom of ... Show

It also guides students in applying or various courses that will lead them to different

This was adopted by the United Nations (U.N) assembly is resolution 44/25 on the
20th November 1989. Talks of Freedom of Expression of opinion and views in Art
12 states that; every child who is capable of forming views and opinion has a right
to express them freely; in all matters that affects them. In article number 13 on
Freedom of Expression says that the child shall have a right to freedom of
expression in terms of: Freedom to seek, Freedom to receive and Freedom to impart
information and ideas of all kinds either orally or in writing in art and music. But the
exercise of these rights must respect the rights and limitations of others and must
respect the country s laws and morals.
Academic freedom consists in protecting the intellectual independence of professors,
researchers and students in the pursuit of knowledge and the expression of ideas from
interference by legislators or authorities within the institution itself. This implies that
no political, ideological or religious orthodoxy will be imposed on professors and
researchers through the hiring or tenure or termination process, or though any other
administrative means by the academic institution. Nor shall legislatures impose any
such orthodoxy through their control or the university budget. This protection
includes students.

Local Adaptation of Plants Essay
In this study, the effect of introducing non local plant material into a certain
environment for restoration purposes was investigated. Several studies already
showed that plants exhibit local adaptation to their sympatric environment (Howe et
al., 2003; Savolainen et al., 2007; Leimu and Fischer, 2008; Salmela, 2014). We
hypothesized that if A. arenaria shows evidence of local adaptation, we expect the
plantsof the experimental site, and closely related ones, to have a greater performance
than allopatric populations (Vander Mijnsbrugge et al., 2010). Results indicated an
increase in survival with increasing distance from the study site in the first phase of
the experiment. In the second phase, the relation between survival and distance...

However, we did not see an effect of the origin of the plants on the condition, so we
cannot completely confirm this theory. Also, since the relation between the distance
and survival was positive, we cannot say we confirmed the theory of local
adaptation. In our analysis, we used geographic distance as a measure for the
differentiation between the various populations. In most cases, environmental
distance is the best way to study population divergence ( Joshi et al., 2001; Bischoff
et al., 2006; Leimu and Fischer, 2008; Bischoff and Tremulot, 2011). This implies
that populations that are close to each other but very dissimilar can differ a lot more
from each other than populations that are more distant but more similar (Bischoff et
al., 2006). In Leimu and Fisher (2008) they stated that geographical distance is only a
good measure if it is correlated with environmental distance, where the latter can be
an important selective agent for local adaptation. By this, the results could be
different with the use of the environmental distance. Also, the experimental plants
were in the field during autumn and winter, implying that aboveground herbivores
were largely absent. It is demonstrated that also aboveground herbivores can act as
selective forces in plant populations, since these herbivores can have strong negative
effects on the plant fitness (Jarosz and Davelos, 1995; Abdala Roberts and Marquis,
2007; Arany et al., 2009). Taking both

The Repeal Of The National Minimum Drinking Age
The repeal of prohibition by the twenty first Amendment in December of 1933
allowed for each state to set its own alcohol consumption age. After the passage of the
twenty sixth Amendment, which lowered the national drinking age to eighteen, thirty
states had lowered the minimum drinking age to eighteen, nineteen, or twenty (
Prohibition ). In 1984, the enactment of the National Minimum Drinking Age Act
prompted states to raise the legal age for purchase of public possession of alcohol to
twenty one or risk losing millions in federal highway funds. By 1988, all fifty states
had raised the minimum drinking age to twenty one. The United States is one, of just
a handful of countries to have a drinking age as high as twenty one. Of the one
hundred and ninety nations, one hundred and fifteen, or sixty one percent, of the
countries have a legal drinking age starting at eighteen or nineteen. In some countries
such as the Central African Republic, the drinking age starts at ten ( Minimum Legal
Drinking Age ). The United States should follow suit with most of the other countries
and lower the drinking age to eighteen.
Dr. Henry Wechsler, a researcher at Harvard School of Public Health, and a leading
expert on college binge drinking states, President Ronald Reagan made the legal
drinking age 21, it was the right decision. The Legal drinking age should remain at
21 for the entire nation (Giamo 1). Although the legal age to purchase alcohol is

Gait Patterns
A journal which discusses and characterises gait in terms of healthy and
hemiparetic is Characterization of gait pattern by 3D angular accelerations in
hemiparetic and healthy gait . In this journal, the study was conducted on 10
healthy subjects ( 3 females and 7 males ) and 10 hemiparetic subjects which were
ranked based on how much assistance was required during a normal gait cycle. This
is known as the FAC (Functional Ambulatory Category) and is built around a 5
point system. An FAC of greater than 0 was required for participation in this study.
A score of one indicated that the subject required contact with at least one person
when moving on a level surface to prevent falling, while a score of 5 indicated that
the affected individual could move independently on flat and inclined, even and
uneven surfaces. In beginning the collection of data, the subjects were fitted with 2
accelerometers on the shank and another accelerometer was placed at the joint
rotation axis on the knee. The primary aim of this study is to show differences in the
gait patterns of hemiparetic and healthy gait based on the angular accelerations of the
thigh, shank and foot as well as to obtain information about gait phases (mid stance,
swing phase, etc) through signals. Accelerations were also analysed in the frontal

was no fear of falling. The healthy individuals chose a preferred leg to have to sensors

Utopia In The Truman Show
Utopia is said to be a place where a good society is created, where one can live a
good life and where power is not abused. But throughout George Orwell s Animal
Farm, the reader learns that a utopian society is in fact impossible. The reader learns
this when Old Major tells of a dream he has where everything is perfect and no
humans are involved, however when the revolution occurs and the humans are chased
off the farm, the pigs become in charge and start to manipulate their power and the
other animals, proving that no matter how hard the animals try, they will never have
the good life that they want. Furthermore, in Peter Weirs the Truman Show, we see
that your own utopia can not be shaped by another being, because although being
in power, Christof makes everything as perfect as he can for Truman, Christof can
never give Truman the good life he actually wants which then leaves Truman
finding his life unsatisfactory. The good life is determined by freedom and to be
able to go where you want and do what you want to do, thus proving that a utopian
society can not actually be made because if everyone could do what they want, there
s no guarantee that people would do the right thing which is why we have people in
power.
Power is having the capability or qualification to do something or control something.
The idea of power is often analyzed in the Truman Show and Animal farm. In the
Truman Show, Peter Weir suggests that power can be bad and that people shouldn t

What Are The Characters In The Novel Paperboy
1, The first paragraph of the novel Paperboy talks mainly about the characters. The
story talks about the stabbing so the character may have experienced some horrible
things. Then it goes on by stating why the main character (Victor) has a disability to
have a talk fluently. And lastly, it said that characternamed Mam has lain too by the
main character and that might mean they don t have a good relationship with the
main character.
2. If a character in the story was represented by an animal I would classify Victor as
a snake and Ara T as a rat. Victor is a snake because people actually call him a
snake. They call him that since he hisses whenever he s stuck on a word so he
could sneak up on it. Ara T is a rat because he collects trash, has dirty baggy clothes,
and goes around the streets. This portrays a rat because they re dirty and roam the
streets.
3. There are many patterns in the book. One of the patterns I spotted was that he
goes to knock on the door to collected weekly fees and at first he is always scared.
But every time he talks to a neighbor they all give him warm welcomes and shows
that they can understand and care for him. Another pattern I spotted was always he
messes up in every house. He messed by saying a bad word to the neighbor, messes
up by leaving a question and standing there for a minute, and he messed up by lying
to Mrs.Rat.
4. An artifact that would help you understand the character IS this book because it s
his diary/memoir. There is a lot
America s Family Planning Programs
The Governments notions of modern family differs from the local s traditional ideals
of family .In order to change the local culture from having traditionally larger families
for social security, to smaller ones, governments implement a national family
planning program. Family planning programs are most commonly applied to areas
with high birth rates such as China, India and java in Indonesia, in attempt to lower
population, however, in the case of Greece s family planning, it aims to reduce
women s abortionrates. In many countries, governments have ulterior motives for
reducing population, some are positive, aiming to increase women s health but most
commonly the case is that families only provide economical benefits and
development for the country. A decline in population means that the government can
invest more per capita in education and health, thus creating the human capital for
sustained economic growth (S. Sinding, 08). The Government planned population
numbers in the same way it planned the production of goods (Anders, 2014), which
resulted in physical and emotional turmoil for families across the world.
Countries differ in conventional family criteria, however the quintessential modern
family consists, health and social wellbeing of relations and the belief that having a
child results in social security and happiness. Family culture in certain countries has
been damaged due to past coercive interfering with family planning, as governments
try and mold local
Contagion In Mass Shootings
Study author Sherry Towers, research professor in the ASU Simon A. Levin
Mathematical, Computational and Modeling Sciences Center, explained, The
hallmark of contagion is observing patterns of many events that are bunched in
time, rather than occurring randomly in time. Her team examined databases on past
high profile mass killings and school shootings in the U.S. and fit a contagion
model to the data to determine if these tragedies inspired similar events in the near
future. They determined that mass killings events with four or more deaths and
school shootings create a period of contagion that lasts an average of 13 days.
Roughly 20 to 30 percent of such tragedies appear to arise from contagion. Their

The Basic Tasks Of Journalism
Christians et al. classify the basic tasks of journalism in a democracy under three
main headings:
1.The task of observing and informing, primarily as a service to the public
2.The task of participating in public life as an independent actor by way of critical
comment, advice, advocacy and expression of opinion
3.The task of providing a channel, forum, or platform for extramedia voices or
sources to reach a self chosen public (pp. 116).
This tasks could be developed and performed by journalism in four types of outlets,
in their specific media systems, characterized by Christians et al. as it follows (p.
117):
1.The internally pluralist and secular media that seek to maximize circulation, which
appeal to a wide range of audiences
2.The externally pluralist commercial media that seek to maximize circulation, but
orienting its content to a like minded audience
3.The partisan media, noncommercial and in a small scale, oriented to ideas of a
particular group
4.The minority media of opinion and debate
The authors display these types of media in a diagram (p. 118) in order to organize
and visualize the way in which different outlets and journalism can be located in a
continuum between open access and closed access (to audiences) and the media as
an observer or a participant (that can be used as a weapon).
Within this landscape, Christians et al. point out the most typical journalistic roles, as
it follows (p. 12):
1.The monitorial role
2.The facilitative role
3.

Susan Glaspell s A Jury Of Her Peers
Susan Glaspell Works
Perhaps the most notable difference between the two works is the change in title.
The title of the drama, Trifles implies the inconsequential nature of the women, in
the eyes of their male counterparts. Several times, within both works, the men
regard the women as frivolous. In the drama, one of Mrs. Peters first lines is an
explanation of Mrs. Wright s concern over the state of her fruit preserves: Oh, her
fruit; it did freeze. She worried about that when it turned so cold. She said the fire
d go out and her jars would break (Trifles). Mrs. Peters explanation is met with

While the dialogue remains unchanged, the reversal of roles feels more natural to the
characters of the short story, and the addition of inflection in Mrs. Hale s voice adds a
deliberateness to her comment that is absent from the play. This is not the only
significant change in the dialogue of the two works. Another small, but significant,
change in dialogue occurs later in the two works, as the investigation comes to an
end. The men are returning to the kitchen and the County Attorney says to Mr. Peters
No, Peters, it s all perfectly clear, except a reason for doing it. But you know juries

story, as the Attorney concludes his thought saying, A thing that would connect up
with this clumsy way of doing it (Jury 18). The change in wording is slight, but the
revised version of the short story carries a different connotation. Merriam Webster
defines strange as 3.a. Discouraging familiarities (Merriam Webster), meaning that

Daniel Shays As An American Officer
Daniel Shays
Daniel Shays served role as an American officer in the American Revolution from
1775 to 1780 and also became known as one of the leaders of Shays Rebellion,
which lasted from 1786 to 1787. In 1780 he resigned from the army, and settled in
Pelham, Massachusetts, where he held numerous town offices. Soon after, wealth
reigned in America at the signing of the peace treaty in 1783, but was quickly
transformed into a severe economic depression. He began his rebellion when
property holders, including himself, began losing their belongings through
confiscations for unpaid debts and taxes and became subject to debtor s
imprisonment. Protests then followed, with threats of violence against the courts
conducting the enforcements and arraignments. This is when Shays arose as one of
the several leaders of what came to be known as Shays Rebellion. After the
Rebellion was over, he and approximately a dozen others were sentenced to death by
the Supreme Court of Massachusetts. However, towards the end of the rebellion,
Shays had escaped to Vermont, soon afterwards he moved to Schoharie county,
New York, and then a few years later moved further west to Sparta, New York.
Shays, in his old age, was granted a retirement pension by the federal government
for the five years he served in the Continental Army without pay. He lived the last
couple years of his life in poverty, as a heavy drinker and supported himself on his
pension by working a small piece of land. He later

Ginsburg V. City Of Ithaca And Cornell University Case
Study
Title: Ginsburg v. City of Ithaca and Cornell University et al., 839 F. Supp. 2d. 537
(N.D.N.Y. 2012). Parties: Plaintiff: Howard I. Ginsburg, as Administrator of the
Estate of Bradley Marc Ginsburg, Defendants: City of Ithaca and Cornell
University. Court: United States District Court. Procedural posture: The case is
before the Northern District of New York after the plaintiff, Howard I. Ginsburg,
filed an amended petition as the administrator of the estate of his deceased son,
Bradley Marc Ginsburg, asking that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University be
held negligent for Bradley s wrongful death as well as personal injuries and
conscious pain and suffering. Facts: On or about February 16 or 17, 2010, a
freshman Cornell student, Bradley Ginsburg, committed suicide after jumping to
his death off the Thurston Avenue Bridge in Ithaca, New York. Investigation
showed that Bradley exhibited no visible warning signs associated with someone
thinking about ending their life, but the father alleged that the City of Ithaca and
Cornell University failed to take appropriate precautions to secure the bridge after
26 prior suicides on it and the other six bridges near campus between 1990 and
2010. Issues: 1) Did Cornell University through planning with the City of Ithaca
exercise sufficient control over the design, construction, and maintenance of the
Thurston Avenue Bridge where they could not be held liable for any alleged
hazards on the bridge that might cause injuries or death? 2) Did the City of Ithaca
and Cornell University takes adequate steps to ensure the safety of individual s
using the bridge at any time after the prior deaths were committed? Holdings: 1)
No. Between the years of 2006 through 2007 Cornell University played a major
part in the City of Ithaca s redesign and rebuilding of the Thurston Avenue Bridge
but was irresponsible due to their failure to express the importance of adding
railings and other preventive suicide measures over aesthetics even with the prior
knowledge of past suicidal events. Galindo v. Town of Clarkstown, 2 N.Y. 3d 633,

Introduction
Following the first Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) deployments in Afghanistan
between 2002 and 2004, the Ombudsman made the recommendation to the
Departement of National Defence leadership to provide a reintegration and

In response to this recommendation, the Canadian Forces Health Services Group
implemented the Third Location Decompression (TLD) Program (CAF Surgeon

participate in the TLD program in Cyprus. The 5 day program consists of individual

The second mental health program is a canadian adaptation of the Battlemind, refered

deployed team, and the training is more adaptable to different types of military
operations (Zamorski, Guest, Bailey, Garber, 2012).
Type of evaluation
In determining the type of evaluation used in this research, I supposed that the
evaluation cannot be formative, because there is no recommendation based on the
findings (Posovac, 2011). Then, I hesitated between the summative evaluation and the
monitoring one. Firstly, the evaluation could be summative because of the
comparison between the old and the new programs, there is no indication in the
article stating that the evaluation s findings will be used to decide amongst the two
programs, and the findings could be used for accountability purposes (Posovac,
2011). Secondly, because the new program is a refined program stemming from the
quality improvement of the old one, this could be a monitoring evaluation, since the
authors only gathered the feedback to confirm that the program was still effective
(Posovac, 2011).
Purpose and focus of the evaluation
Since it is not stated in the article, I deduct that the Department of

In the article Catharine Beecher and Charlotte Perkins Gilman: Architects of Female
Power by author Valerie Gill, Ms. Gill attempts to bridge the gap between what
appears to be two powerful women of their time with two totally different opinions of
the American woman and the type of life they should lead. The author points out the
obvious differences of opinions in the writings of the two women, who are related by
the way, and the different era in which they write. Catharine Beecher was the great
aunt of Charlotte Perkins Gilman and lived and wrote during a time when a woman

Both women also had the common conclusion that the woman s place, whether it is
in the home working or in the factory working, would make a great impact on the
society.
Architectural ideas as to better society are another thing these two authors had in
common, as pointed out by Gill in the article. The elder author Beecher would
make drawings in her articles about staging the home and using dividers as a way
to make more areas in the home, and Gilman, being concerned about the lives led
by farmer s wives, included drawings of a farming community shaped like a pie
that had common areas to share, as to make life easier for them. Interesting enough,
Gill included in her article a picture of a drawing done by Beecher, along with her
sister Harriet Beecher Stowe, later in life of a block of houses with common areas
used to house the homeless, helpless, and vicious which very much resembled
Gilman s block community idea where people shared common spaces and so that
some women could take care of the children and household duties while others went
out in the community to work. This is an excellent example of Beecher thinking like
Gilman in the mixing of public and private space. It is my opinion that the aging
Beecher was beginning to think out of the box.
This article was insightful and gave a great example of how people with a difference
of opinion can actually be thinking the same. If one just read the two women s
writings without an open mind, one would think

(Persephone, Demeter, and Hades) The recognition of myths is important because
it makes our experience with literature deeper. Chapter 10 It s More Than Just Rain
or Snow Main Ideas: Stories need setting it s essential and you could say that
weather is apart of it. Weather is never just weather Sleet is too rare to generalize
Rain can associate fear because drowning magnifies fear (us being land creatures).
Rain profound this sort. Rain helps in plot because it forces men together in a
uncomfortable circumstance. Rain as an atmospheric weather condition can be
mysterious, murky, isolating, and miserable and brings on misery. Fog also has the
same qualities. Interlude Does He Mean That? Main Ideas: No one knows for
certain what a dead author is eluding. We can be pretty sure, depending on what they
themselves tell us, but in general we make guesses With hints, evidence, and trace

This is an individual submission. Submissions may be up to 1,250 words. For this

from the material presented in the case, so you should not require outside sources in

Apple became a well diverse company with the leadership of Jobs they had 15
product lines which were slashed down to 4 categories desktop and portable
Macintoshes, for consumers and professionals. (Pg3) Not only did they have 15
different products which placed them in several different industries but they tried to
depict themselves as Worlds greenest lineup of notebooks that was energy efficient
and used recyclable materials (Pg 4)
Rivalry
The rivalry in this industry is high with the four top Pc vendors Hewlett Packard,
Dell, Lenovo, and Acer accounted for 53.6 percent of worldwide shipments. (Pg 5)
Even though it was Apple who founded the first personal computer it was IBM that
brought them into the conventional lives of society. Within this time period there
were a lot of mergers and acquisitions making rivalry amongst firms even greater as
every time this occurred these merged companies would have more market share and
more capital to help their business.
Threat of substitutes
A lot of these products were similar in many ways and allowed consumers to do
pretty much the same things. For example a Laptop had a camera as did an iPad as
well as a Ultra book, an iPhone and an iPod. All of these products could also go on
the internet and have programs like Microsoft office. Competitors also had the same
attributes so I would say threat of substitutes is high.
Threat of new entrants
Although there are many
Soring In Horse Slaughter
Soring is a cruel practice used on horses to exaggerate their gaits. It is commonly
found in gaited horses such as the Tennessee Walking Horse. Chemicals such as
mustard oil, diesel, or kerosene are put on the legs of the horse and left there for a
few days. This causes painful sores, and to avoid detection at shows they often use a
chemical stripping agent to get rid of the scarring. Then action devices such as
chains are placed on these sores to make these horses accentuate their gaits. Another
type of soring is grinding down the sole of the hoof to expose the sensitive tissues.
These methods often make the horsepick up their legs higher and faster (AVMA,
2012). One way that soring could be stopped is if the public was made more aware
Examples Of Manipulation In Hedda Gabler
Hedda Gabler, written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, represents the
power of manipulation, desire, and societal upbringing. The main character,
Hedda, is the daughter of General Gabler and what makes her such a diverse
character is that she portrays how power and greed can demolish one s humanity. As
a female character, Hedda is fascinating to me as a reader because most plays and
other works of art typically hold women as a possession to be protected or simply use
them as a tool of sexual propaganda, yet Hedda is depicted as a womanof great power
and control. She uses her power of manipulation to gain control of those around her
not only to achieve her goals as a character but transition the societal expectations of
women. While Hedda... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is a very impulsive woman and due to her incessant state of boredom, often
becomes still crazy until she fulfills the void within her. Specifically, she states For
once, I want to feel that I control a human destiny (Ibsen, pg. 266). Her ability to
manipulate a situation can be contributed to the fact that Hedda was not raised like
most women her age. As the daughter of a famous General, she was raised learning
how to survive, operate weapons, and manipulate situations in her favor. As the main
character, Hedda is exceedingly demanding when it comes to what she desires,
power. While her newly found husband, George Tesman, is attempting to fulfill her
physical desires, he continues to fall short due to their lack of communication and
altered identities within their social construct. Due to this lack of similar desires,
Tesman takes his wife on a six month long honeymoon and goes out of his way to
purchase a house in which they cannot afford simply because Hedda mentioned that
she would like to live in it unbeknownst to Tesman that she was simply wanting to
develop the conversation. Hedda is easily jaded and because of this, she lashes out
either violently or through whatever contributes to her
A Summary Of Feminist Fairytale Equality For Female...
Good Morning, F.F.E.F.F.C. or more officially, Feminist Fairytale Equality For
Female Characters Conference, thank you for allowing me to be your keynote
speaker and allowing me to share my knowledge with you on an issue I think we
all feel so strongly about. My fellow female characters I want you to just think
about this question, why are females mainly portrayed in literary fiction as docile,
weak and vulnerable beings? Consistently we are made victims of our own stories
waiting to be rescued by a Prince Charming. Yet what we fail to acknowledge is the
impact of our stories and how our very important lives as female characters is
helping to produce a societal upbringing of social genderroles that put females in an
unequal spotlight.
For those who don t know me, I m Molly Whuppie. And I am the protagonist of a
classic Celtic folklore fairytale, a trickster as some may call me. My story has
been passed down for decades and has left me with experience in activism along
with my tireless commitment to people of our specific community. Luckily my
story has been used throughout the years as almost a women empowerment tale.
Unlike many other tales I defeated my own Giant. Obviously, because of the usage
of my quick mind and fast feet I consistently outran and out tricked a mean giant
attempting to kill me. The rarity in my story is exactly the reason why I m here with
you all today. It s the fact that stories like mine are still not primarily represented in
fairytales.
Unfortunately, Even though I defeated my Giant, the reason I had to do what I did
is what connects my stories with you all. I did what I must in order for my sisters
and I to get married. During the time period of my fairytale and so many of yours,
without marriage to enhance our lives and societal status we feel stuck. But now
more than ever, we need to fight back against our original oppressive creators and
rewrite our stories. But it s you that needs to reevaluate and see these problems first
then make the decision that you feel is right in your heart. Just think about all the
roles you ve all played in your own stories, and how they truly play out when you
simplify the plots down. Snow White! Your gender was a threat to another woman
and you
Role and Function of Personnel Departments and Ways to...
Evaluation of the role and function of personnel departments within organizations and
discussion of ways to improve their strategic value to the organization.
Role of HR Departments
The HR model of the four HRM perspectives devised by Ulrich helps clarify the role
of Personnel Departments (University of Sunderland 2004, p. 75).
Strategic Partner
As Strategic Partner the HR Department creates an appropriate organisational
architecture with the target of achieving a match between factors such as culture and
work processes and the organisation s strategic goals. The focus is on results
orientation and performance enhancement (University of Sunderland 2004, pp. 75,
78).
Administrative Expert

change agent). It is vital for corporate success that all four roles are considered as
equally important.
Problems, however, might not only arise because of operational and strategic
processes. The department also has to manage to align processes and people because
both factors equally contribute to the success of the HR Department and the
organisation.
Another critical point is that the HR role and activities are very comprehensive and
complex, maybe too comprehensive for one department, as it might be possible to
lose control over all the different processes.
HR Functions and Evaluation
HR policy formulation
The Personnel Department formulates strategic HR policy, bearing in mind the
overall organisational context (University of Sunderland 2004, p. 84).
If properly devised, HR policy formulation can make an essential contribution to
corporate success. However, it has to be considered that if the department devises a
wrong strategy it could slow down corporate development and thus future corporate
success.
Planning
This activity comprises HR planning, recruitment and workforce planning and work
organisation (University of Sunderland 2004, p. 84).
A problem area is that future development and corporate needs might be difficult to
estimate. This means that planning could be totally wrong and objectives could not
be achieved, which would also result in high costs.
Training and development
This comprises various tools such as induction, management
Burberry
The political situation in china is such that there was existed communism where the
administration activities control over everything (Shafiq, 2008). There is an outlook
that anybody working in china work for the country and the legislature of china. The
legislature in China has given a board approach to the extravagance merchandise
industry.
(Ban, 2011). Since the legislature in china is abusive, there could be a ton of distress
in china and this can act like one of the dangers for Burberry to work in china. It
might be contended that part of strength in china is because of the way that the
subjects don t have any contribution in government s say (Bloom, 2011). In the
meantime there is modern and business development in china ... Show more content

(Burca et al, 2004). In 2009 Burberry expanded by 21% in Hong Kong deals
because of the solid estimation of the dollar and the Euro versus the pound sterling.
(Ruiz, 2009) (Figure 4)
Figure 4: (Solutions, 2014)
Social and Culture:
Socio culture factors speak to the society of the general public that an association
works inside. They may incorporate demographics, age conveyance, populace
development rates, level of training, appropriation of riches and social classes, living
conditions and lifestyle. (Worthington and Britton, 2006)
With the change of living principles and the higher quest for material, more
individuals in China started to purchase extravagance for vanity (China hands, 2014).
Extravagance is seen as an image of societal position, and individuals want to buy
them for fulfilling their own particular vanity. This is a utilitarian age.
Regarding social culture elements, the society is not the same all through the entire
nation; the west has a tendency to gain 2.26 times more than specialists in the west of
the nation. Thusly areas of the organization s stores would be the key. (Grant, 2008)
It might be contended that demographic of china is such that there are numerous
diverse sorts of dialects that are represented correspondence. It can act like significant
issue for Burberry on account of the correspondence
Essay about Tesco
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY After years and years of pursuing Sainsbury as the
United Kingdom s largest retailer, Tesco PLC broke through in 1995 and has
become not only the largest retailer in the UK, but also the world s 4th largest
retailer, trailing only Wal Mart, Carrefour and Germany s Metro AG. Originally, Tesco
s soul focus was the retail grocery market. As of February 2010, the grocery market
continues to be Tesco s largest source of revenue and it has accounted for more than
50% of Tesco s ВЈ 59.4 billion of sales. Further, Tesco does not limit its operation
strictly to the United Kingdom. Currently, Tesco resides in 13 countries worldwide
and operates 1,911 stores across Europe and Asia. The company has also expanded in
the United... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing so, they have placed more of an emphasis on non food products clothing,
photolabs, televisions, flowers, pharmaceutical products, etc. which have higher
profit margins than Tesco s traditional source of revenue, groceries. From here,
Tesco differentiates its subsidiaries from its previous owners by aggressively
negotiating with local suppliers, implementing its customer loyalty program, adding
gas stations to the property, opening its stores for 24 hours and by offering
discount brands to go along with its good, better, best value pricing strategy
(Corporate Watch Site). Also, within the past two years Tesco has been outsmarted
by Asda and Sainsbury in price comparison initiatives and targeted marketing
campaigns in UK. This has lead to trailing growth trends and stagnating market
share for Tesco as displayed in Exhibit A (Tesco UK PDF). This is in turn, places
more of an emphasis on the company s growth and profitability in foreign markets.
Generally speaking, Tesco targets emerging markets such as the Czech Republic
while working to take advantage of the large consumer markets in both China and
the United States. In addition to company acquisitions such as its Fresh and Easy
stores in the United States, Tesco looks to joint ventures to stimulate growth as
exemplified by Samsung Group (Samsung and Tesco Home Plus) in South Korea
and Tesco Lotus in Thailand. Despite the recession, Tesco showed 10.1% profit
growth in 2009 on $96

  • 1. Family Violence Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of family violence is undeniably a challenging task. This is not merely an exercise in assembling facts and presenting them coherently; it demands a delicate balance between conveying the severity of the issue and maintaining a compassionate, empathetic tone. The intricacy lies in addressing a topic that is not only sensitive but also deeply personal for many individuals. Researching family violence necessitates delving into distressing statistics, exploring psychological and sociological aspects, and confronting the multifaceted nature of abusive relationships. The emotional toll of comprehending the experiences of those affected by family violence adds another layer of complexity. The challenge is not only to articulate the gravity of the issue but also to offer insights into prevention and support, encouraging a constructive dialogue on how to break the cycle. Furthermore, the responsibility of avoiding stigmatization while emphasizing the urgency of intervention makes the writing process intricate. Striking a balance between highlighting the prevalence of family violence and offering solutions without oversimplifying the issue is a delicate tightrope walk. In conclusion, composing an essay on family violence requires a nuanced approach, blending academic rigor with sensitivity. It calls for an understanding of the intricate dynamics at play, an acknowledgment of the emotional weight carried by the subject matter, and an unwavering commitment to fostering awareness and change. • 2. Delaware Aqueduct CASE STUDIES The two projects highlighted are the Delaware Aqueduct in upstate New York and the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado. Both projects were an evolution in tunnel design and methods used were from lessons learned on past tunneling ventures. Both projects were a high priority at the time of construction and were primarily the result of increasing demand for resources and mobility. The purpose of the Delaware Aqueduct is to transport water from upstate New York to provide the water needs of New York cityfor millions of people. The Eisenhower Tunnel was constructed as one of the last parts of the interstate highway system which started growing in the 1950 s under the Eisenhower administration. The demand for both projects is clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They re also a warning about the challenges New York City will confront in coming years to keep its world class water system running. Admitting to the holes It has been 57 years since anybody got a decent peer inside the Delaware Aqueduct, which begins toward one side of the Rondout Reservoir in Ulster County and runs 45 miles toward the West Branch Reservoir outside of Carmel, then turns south for the once over to the Kensico Reservoir in Valhalla. From the Kensico, its water moves to the ultraviolet purification plant in Eastview, onto the Hillview Reservoir in Yonkers and afterward into the tunnels that feed the city s mains. Opened in 1944, the water gathers water from four repositories crosswise over 1,000 square miles and can convey up to 900 million gallons of water a day, yet, for the most part, handles around 66% of that, all fueled by gravity on a course that dives as deep as 2,300 feet beneath the
  • 3. Noah s Piety In The Play In the York Corpus Christi Plays, many of the characters are so over top, so remarkably buffoonish that those characters are ultimately quite comedic in effect. To a modern audience, a comedic biblical character may seem blasphemous it may seem morally wrong to laugh at Jesus s executioners as they struggle to crucify Christianity s most important figure. However, when examining exactly how those characters function in the play, the comedic nature of those characters may not be wholly blasphemous in effect. For example, do those comedic executioners only make the audience laugh at Jesus s crucifixion, or do they emphasize Jesus s calm and solemn nature? Similarly, plays about Noah s ark and the great flood include comedic characters, yet those plays do not feel totally blasphemous. Instead, the inclusion of a variety of characters in these plays seems more nuanced. In the York Corpus ChristiPlay The Building of the Ark, Noah s piety is established through his undying trust in God and his general... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout his encounter with God, Noah does not question God s intentions or his plan. The only thing Noah questions is his own ability to perform such great actions (which is, again, related to his pious humility), never God s general plan. God explains to him his plan, and Noah ends the play by telling God that he will go and fulfill God s wishes: Abowte this werke now bus me wende, (PAGE #, l. 148). Not only is Noah humble, he is also obedient and trusts in his God. In attributing Noah s piety to humility, trust in God, obedience, and gratitude, The Building of the Ark subsequently praises these attributes and establishes them as virtues. Thus, the play not only categorizes Noah as pious (and explains what exactly makes him a pious character), the play also makes the public aware of how one can become pious like

The following longest period amid which year finished development stayed positive was the 13 years somewhere around 1961 and 1974.1 In the 1970s and 1980s, development stages commonly endured just seven or eight years before another subsidence hit. As I said, no other created economy has encountered continuous development in the course of recent years. Actually, numerous created economies have encountered two scenes of negative development amid that period: one in 2001 after the breakdown of the website air pocket; and one in 2008 after the breakdown of the US sub prime lodging air pocket. Indeed, even between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The China story has been huge just in the course of recent years; the vast majority of its noteworthiness still lies ahead. Keep in mind that the nation that was our principle fare business sector, Japan, has encountered exceptionally quelled monetary development in the course of recent years, and that few other of our Asian exchanging accomplices encountered an extremely serious financial emergency in the 1990s. I would in this manner infer that our fortunes has been to some degree blended, and we have to look to different variables to clarify Australia s great development execution. I won t put on a show to have the capacity to give a nitty gritty examination of these components in the brief timeframe accessible today, however I would like to highlight a few variables I think have been imperative. These are the expanded adaptability of the Australian economy and the quest for reasonable and restrained money related arrangements. The Australian economy in the course of recent years has demonstrated a more prominent level of adaptability than was the situation in the 1970s and 1980s. This has made it stronger to the different outside stuns that have been experienced over the period: the Asian emergency; the breakdown of the website bubble; and the late crumple of the US sub prime credit rise, to name a portion of the more serious. One of the key components in that adaptability has been the
  • 7. Concert Promoter Is Live Nation but also creates connections that can make an artist more successful as a band with collaborators than just by themselves. It cannot be certain if this will be as easy and profitable as sharing music through a major label, but it is a way for an artist to keep their rights to their songs and work (Cayari, 2011). This solution is a very risky one, but it can be very successful as well. Becoming a YouTube star leads to more lucrative avenues such as TV appearances and movie deals (Curien Moreau, 2009). Whatever the outcome, the success and money will take longer than if the artist were given a contract. In order to get away from the demeaning obligations of the 360deal some artists have signed instead with concert promoters, another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other advantages to signing with Live Nation is that they are an Artist Nation; this means they believe in being a partner to the artist and assist in managing a variety of rights, fanbases, touring, and provide direct connection to fans. Unlike the 360 deal, Artist Nation does not confiscate publishing from the artist, which is a big revenue stream typically. In turn, this provides the artist with more income. The major areas that Live Nation profits from are: recorded music, merchandising, fan sites and ticketing, broadcast rights, sponsorship, marketing, and digital rights management. This may seem like a lot, but the percentage they take is about 6% in each of these areas. The biggest percentage Live Nation takes is from ticket sales because that is what they are known for and that is the money making part of the business for most artists. A disadvantage to Live Nation is they lack licensing and distribution like record labels however, sometimes a deal can be made through a record label just for distribution purposes. Although Live Nation lacks in certain areas that major labels have; they are making agreements with other companies such as, Ticketmaster, to help their artists as well as themselves to become successful. One of these strategies involves ticketing and fan clubs. The core of the music industry is not albums or singles, but live performance; hence why Live Nation is
  • 8. Doritos Goat 4 Sale Essay Doritos Goat 4 sale is a commercial trying to sell the chips, Doritos. The commercial starts off with a man buying a goat that eats Doritos and how much fun the man and the goat have but, ends with the man who brought the goat trying to sell the goat so he can keep all of the Doritos. Doritos Goat 4 Sale was humorous because a goat was eating Doritos plus in the end the owner of the goat was trying to sell the goat to keep all the Doritos. It was also funny when the goat screams when he sees there is no more Doritos in the pantry just to find out his owner stole all of the Doritos and was going to sell him. • 9. How Did The Roman Economy Affect The Provinces Roman Economy and the Provinces Roman provinces had several effects on the Roman economy. The provinces allowed for regular imports of grains, trades of exotic goods, monetary tributes, and importation of slaves. These factors helped fuel and strength the Roman economy. Grain was an important part of everyday life, and Rome relied heavily on the provinces to supply the needed amount of grain. The need to secure grain providing provinces was one of many important factors that would lead to the expansion and conquests of the Roman State. (UNRV., n.d.). One of the many reasons for the Roman conquests in the first place was to secure grain supplies. The provinces would supply grains to Rome at a lower price than Roman grain,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the imports that the provinces supplied were considered high grade. For example, wine from Eygpt was considered to be the best, olive oil from southern Spain was a luxury, and silk from India would have been an item only the rich could afford (Cartwright, M., 2013, December 17). The provinces would also have provided items such as spices, pottery, ivory, and terracotta. Importations of the exotic items would have impacted the Roman economy by raising the values of those items. Olive oil would have been more expensive because it would have a higher value. Slaves and tributes benefited the Roman economy by allowing for cheap labour and by providing money for the Roman treasury (Wasson, D., 2015, November 29). Slavery impacted the Roman economy via cheap human labour resources and slaves markets. Monterary tributes filled the Roman treasury, allowed for Roman buildings, and pay for individuals holding public office. Conclusion; The Roman economy was fueled by many factors, both foreign and domestic. It had multiple avenues for income, from imports to exports, from taxes to tributes. There was also many forms of labour available, allowing for competitiveness in the job market. The economy of Rome had various factors impacting it, and each one needs to be considered when trying to see how they collectively impacted

  • 11. The Growth Of The Australian Economy Essay 1.Introduction Suggesting any economic or policy reforms to the Australian Economy requires us to understand the evolution of an economy and the factors effecting it both intrinsically and globally. But even if we understand the changes, how can we compare the before and the after? What are the best parameters in doing so? What phenomenon is followed globally? This just summarizes one aspect of the essay which is followed by policy recommendations by the author in the later half. Though with the limited knowledge of the subject and experience the author has suggested a policy recommendation which aims at resolving existing or possible budding economic issues for Australia. 2.Limitations Considering vastness of the study and limitations of words and understanding, the author has tried to cover most of the parameters to judge the Australian economy in relation to the global economy trends and its implications. However, some of the newer areas of economic development have not been covered, specially in relation to the Australian economy. One of the most economically disruptive phenomenon is that of Bitcoin and its implications on the global economy. There are several other parameters and phenomenon that could not be covered by the Author in relation to limitation of time and words. 3.Economy a deeper understanding The Best Way To Asses an Economy Irrespective of which country you belong to, the best way to assess economic goals is to stop pause and look at where the

  • 14. Dreams And Imagined Visions By Tennyson As early as the second section we are told of Hallam s final burial below a Yew, whose fibres net the dreamless head of Hallam. Tennyson s choice to focus on the dreamless aspect of his friend s skull above any other adjective such as lifeless or thoughtless places an emphasis on dreams at an early point in the poem. Dreams act as a place inbetween the hard, sometimes unbearable reality of Tennyson s loss and the unreachable state of heaven that Hallam is in. Dreams and imagined visions are the places where Tennyson is able to truly grapple both the pain caused by the loss of his friend and the accompanying religious doubt. It is one of these dreams that Tennyson comes into contact with a mysterious angel of the night who transforms the symbolic crown of thorns he is wearing into leaf . He reach d the glory of a hand, That seem d to touch it into leaf; The voice was not the voice of grief, The words were hard to understand. The angel mentioned could either be a version of the spirit of Arthur Hallam, with which Tennyson enters into many passages of imagined dialogue, or a dreamt version of a Christian angel, partaking in a transformative process. The ambiguity of the situation is important, while it seems unlikely that it is Hallam s true spirit given Tennyson s continuous desire for that very encounter in much of the rest of In Memoriam the very suggestion combined with the restorative process of a positive force provides a note of hope
  • 15. The Presidential Election Of 1984 The United States presidential election of 1984 was the 50th quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 6, 1984. The presidential race was between the incumbent Republican candidate, President Ronald Reagan, and former Vice President Democratic candidate, Walter Mondale. Reagan was helped in the election by a strong economic recovery from the deep recession of 1981 1982. Reagan carried 49 of the 50 states, becoming only the second presidential candidate to do so after Richard Nixons victory in the 1972 presidential election. Mondale s only electoral votes came from the District of Columbia, which has always been considered a Democratic guarantee, and his home state of Minnesota which he won by a mere 3761 votes, meaning Reagan came within 3800 votes of winning all fifty states. Reagan s 525 electoral votes (out of 538) is the highest total ever received by a presidential candidate. Mondale s 13 electoral votes is also the 2nd fewest ever received by a second place candidate, second only to lf Landon s 8 in 1936. In the national popular vote, Reagan received 58.8% to Mondale s 40.6% (2016, 270towin.com) For a long period, candidates running for President of the United States often have what s called a campaign strategy to help attract voters attention. Experiment 1: Synthesis of Isopentyl Acetate via Fischer Esterification Introduction: Isopentyl acetate, banana oil, is a naturally occurring compound that has a very distinct and recognizable odor. It is most commonly found in bananas but also can be found in other organisms. The purpose of this lab was to synthesize the ester isopentyl acetate via an acid catalyzed esterification (Fischer Esterification) of acetic acid with isopentyl alcohol. Emil Fischer and Arthur Speier were the pioneers of this reaction referred to as Fischer Esterification. The reaction is characterized by the combining of an alcohol and an acid (with an acid catalyst) to yield and ester plus water. In order to accomplish the reaction, the reactants were... A great deal of caution was taken into consideration because of the production of carbon dioxide gas which caused pressure to develop inside the funnel. The pressure needed to be released so the funnel was vented frequently. The phases were allowed to separate and the lower aqueous phases was drained into the beaker. After draining, 5 ml of saturated NaCl was added to the funnel and then shaken gently. Once again, the phases were allowed to separate and the lower aqueous phase was drained into a beaker. An ester product was produced and was transferred into a 25 ml Erlenmeyer flask. This organic product was then dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 to trap small amounts of water in its crystal lattices thus removing it from the product. Finally the ester was decanted, so that the drying agent was excluded from the final product. Results and Discussion: Fischer esterification is the primary way of synthesizing this ester. Mission Command Principles The Principles of Mission Command Introduction During 2003, General Petraeus and his soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division had no clue of the astounding role they were about to embark on. General Petraeus found the city of Mosul in complete destruction, and knew it would take a cohesive effort through mutual trust and teamwork to restore the city. The city of Mosul did not only need a complete make over, but also a regime that shared a mutual understanding as Petraeus. Lastly, with the city rebuilding changes would bring hostility and risk to the soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division. General David Petraeus was successful in Mosul, because he applied the mission command control principles of building cohesive teams, creating shared understanding, and accepting prudent risk. Building Cohesive Teams The city of Mosul had taken a substantial amount of damage to its infrastructure, and government and needed assistance from United States in a team effort to help restore what had been lost. To have cohesive team work, you first must be able to communicate so that you can maximize the workload in a shared effort. • 24. Local Adaptation of Plants Essay In this study, the effect of introducing non local plant material into a certain environment for restoration purposes was investigated. Several studies already showed that plants exhibit local adaptation to their sympatric environment (Howe et al., 2003; Savolainen et al., 2007; Leimu and Fischer, 2008; Salmela, 2014). We hypothesized that if A. arenaria shows evidence of local adaptation, we expect the plantsof the experimental site, and closely related ones, to have a greater performance than allopatric populations (Vander Mijnsbrugge et al., 2010). Results indicated an increase in survival with increasing distance from the study site in the first phase of the experiment. In the second phase, the relation between survival and distance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, we did not see an effect of the origin of the plants on the condition, so we cannot completely confirm this theory. Also, since the relation between the distance and survival was positive, we cannot say we confirmed the theory of local adaptation. In our analysis, we used geographic distance as a measure for the differentiation between the various populations. In most cases, environmental distance is the best way to study population divergence ( Joshi et al., 2001; Bischoff et al., 2006; Leimu and Fischer, 2008; Bischoff and Tremulot, 2011). This implies that populations that are close to each other but very dissimilar can differ a lot more from each other than populations that are more distant but more similar (Bischoff et al., 2006). In Leimu and Fisher (2008) they stated that geographical distance is only a good measure if it is correlated with environmental distance, where the latter can be an important selective agent for local adaptation. By this, the results could be different with the use of the environmental distance. Also, the experimental plants were in the field during autumn and winter, implying that aboveground herbivores were largely absent. It is demonstrated that also aboveground herbivores can act as selective forces in plant populations, since these herbivores can have strong negative effects on the plant fitness (Jarosz and Davelos, 1995; Abdala Roberts and Marquis, 2007; Arany et al., 2009). After the passage of the twenty sixth Amendment, which lowered the national drinking age to eighteen, thirty states had lowered the minimum drinking age to eighteen, nineteen, or twenty ( Prohibition ). In 1984, the enactment of the National Minimum Drinking Age Act prompted states to raise the legal age for purchase of public possession of alcohol to twenty one or risk losing millions in federal highway funds. • 29. Utopia In The Truman Show Utopia is said to be a place where a good society is created, where one can live a good life and where power is not abused. But throughout George Orwell s Animal Farm, the reader learns that a utopian society is in fact impossible. The reader learns this when Old Major tells of a dream he has where everything is perfect and no humans are involved, however when the revolution occurs and the humans are chased off the farm, the pigs become in charge and start to manipulate their power and the other animals, proving that no matter how hard the animals try, they will never have the good life that they want. Furthermore, in Peter Weirs the Truman Show, we see that your own utopia can not be shaped by another being, because although being in power, Christof makes everything as perfect as he can for Truman, Christof can never give Truman the good life he actually wants which then leaves Truman finding his life unsatisfactory. The good life is determined by freedom and to be able to go where you want and do what you want to do, thus proving that a utopian society can not actually be made because if everyone could do what they want, there s no guarantee that people would do the right thing which is why we have people in power. Power is having the capability or qualification to do something or control something. The idea of power is often analyzed in the Truman Show and Animal farm. In the Truman Show, Peter Weir suggests that power can be bad and that people shouldn t have power

And lastly, it said that characternamed Mam has lain too by the main character and that might mean they don t have a good relationship with the main character. 2. If a character in the story was represented by an animal I would classify Victor as a snake and Ara T as a rat. Victor is a snake because people actually call him a snake. They call him that since he hisses whenever he s stuck on a word so he could sneak up on it. Ara T is a rat because he collects trash, has dirty baggy clothes, and goes around the streets. This portrays a rat because they re dirty and roam the streets. 3. There are many patterns in the book. One of the patterns I spotted was that he goes to knock on the door to collected weekly fees and at first he is always scared. But every time he talks to a neighbor they all give him warm welcomes and shows that they can understand and care for him. Another pattern I spotted was always he messes up in every house. He messed by saying a bad word to the neighbor, messes up by leaving a question and standing there for a minute, and he messed up by lying to Mrs.Rat. 4. An artifact that would help you understand the character IS this book because it s his diary/memoir. There is a lot
  • 31. America s Family Planning Programs The Governments notions of modern family differs from the local s traditional ideals of family .In order to change the local culture from having traditionally larger families for social security, to smaller ones, governments implement a national family planning program. Family planning programs are most commonly applied to areas with high birth rates such as China, India and java in Indonesia, in attempt to lower population, however, in the case of Greece s family planning, it aims to reduce women s abortionrates. In many countries, governments have ulterior motives for reducing population, some are positive, aiming to increase women s health but most commonly the case is that families only provide economical benefits and development for the country. A decline in population means that the government can invest more per capita in education and health, thus creating the human capital for sustained economic growth (S. Sinding, 08). The Government planned population numbers in the same way it planned the production of goods (Anders, 2014), which resulted in physical and emotional turmoil for families across the world. Countries differ in conventional family criteria, however the quintessential modern family consists, health and social wellbeing of relations and the belief that having a child results in social security and happiness. Family culture in certain countries has been damaged due to past coercive interfering with family planning, as governments try and mold local

The Basic Tasks Of Journalism Christians et al. classify the basic tasks of journalism in a democracy under three main headings: 1.The task of observing and informing, primarily as a service to the public 2.The task of participating in public life as an independent actor by way of critical comment, advice, advocacy and expression of opinion 3.The task of providing a channel, forum, or platform for extramedia voices or sources to reach a self chosen public (pp. 116). This tasks could be developed and performed by journalism in four types of outlets, in their specific media systems, characterized by Christians et al. as it follows (p. 117): 1.The internally pluralist and secular media that seek to maximize circulation, which appeal to a wide range of audiences 2.The externally pluralist commercial media that seek to maximize circulation, but orienting its content to a like minded audience 3.The partisan media, noncommercial and in a small scale, oriented to ideas of a particular group 4.The minority media of opinion and debate The authors display these types of media in a diagram (p. 118) in order to organize and visualize the way in which different outlets and journalism can be located in a continuum between open access and closed access (to audiences) and the media as an observer or a participant (that can be used as a weapon). • 40. Ginsburg V. City Of Ithaca And Cornell University Case Study Title: Ginsburg v. City of Ithaca and Cornell University et al., 839 F. Supp. 2d. 537 (N.D.N.Y. 2012). Parties: Plaintiff: Howard I. Ginsburg, as Administrator of the Estate of Bradley Marc Ginsburg, Defendants: City of Ithaca and Cornell University. Court: United States District Court. Procedural posture: The case is before the Northern District of New York after the plaintiff, Howard I. Ginsburg, filed an amended petition as the administrator of the estate of his deceased son, Bradley Marc Ginsburg, asking that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University be held negligent for Bradley s wrongful death as well as personal injuries and conscious pain and suffering. Facts: On or about February 16 or 17, 2010, a freshman Cornell student, Bradley Ginsburg, committed suicide after jumping to his death off the Thurston Avenue Bridge in Ithaca, New York. Investigation showed that Bradley exhibited no visible warning signs associated with someone thinking about ending their life, but the father alleged that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University failed to take appropriate precautions to secure the bridge after 26 prior suicides on it and the other six bridges near campus between 1990 and 2010. Issues: 1) Did Cornell University through planning with the City of Ithaca exercise sufficient control over the design, construction, and maintenance of the Thurston Avenue Bridge where they could not be held liable for any alleged hazards on the bridge that might cause injuries or death? 2) Did the City of Ithaca and Cornell University takes adequate steps to ensure the safety of individual s using the bridge at any time after the prior deaths were committed? Holdings: 1) No. Between the years of 2006 through 2007 Cornell University played a major part in the City of Ithaca s redesign and rebuilding of the Thurston Avenue Bridge but was irresponsible due to their failure to express the importance of adding railings and other preventive suicide measures over aesthetics even with the prior knowledge of past suicidal events. Galindo v. Town of Clarkstown, 2 N.Y. 3d 633, 636 (2004) states that a party that owns or controls the property has a duty to exercise reasonable care under the circumstances in
  • 41. Introduction. Following The First Canadian Armed Forces Introduction Following the first Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) deployments in Afghanistan between 2002 and 2004, the Ombudsman made the recommendation to the Departement of National Defence leadership to provide a reintegration and decompression program in support of the military personnel deploying on operations. In response to this recommendation, the Canadian Forces Health Services Group implemented the Third Location Decompression (TLD) Program (CAF Surgeon General, 2014). All CAF members returning from deployment to Afghanistan must participate in the TLD program in Cyprus. The 5 day program consists of individual free time, structured recreational activities and mental health training program (CAF Surgeon General, 2014). After a few ... In general, the training delivery changed from mainly delivered by clinicians, to a joint effort between clinician and non clinician intructors. The training design was changed to uphold the group cohesion of the deployed team, and the training is more adaptable to different types of military operations (Zamorski, Guest, Bailey, Garber, 2012). Type of evaluation In determining the type of evaluation used in this research, I supposed that the evaluation cannot be formative, because there is no recommendation based on the findings (Posovac, 2011). Then, I hesitated between the summative evaluation and the monitoring one. Firstly, the evaluation could be summative because of the comparison between the old and the new programs, there is no indication in the article stating that the evaluation s findings will be used to decide amongst the two programs, and the findings could be used for accountability purposes (Posovac, 2011). Secondly, because the new program is a refined program stemming from the quality improvement of the old one, this could be a monitoring evaluation, since the authors only gathered the feedback to confirm that the program was still effective (Posovac, 2011). Purpose and focus of the evaluation Since it is not stated in the article, I deduct that the Department of
  • 42. Article Review Gill, Valerie. Catharine Beecher and... Bailey Diamond In the article Catharine Beecher and Charlotte Perkins Gilman: Architects of Female Power by author Valerie Gill, Ms. Gill attempts to bridge the gap between what appears to be two powerful women of their time with two totally different opinions of the American woman and the type of life they should lead. The author points out the obvious differences of opinions in the writings of the two women, who are related by the way, and the different era in which they write. Catharine Beecher was the great aunt of Charlotte Perkins Gilman and lived and wrote during a time when a woman working in any other place besides the home was not something that happened often. Both women also had the common conclusion that the woman s place, whether it is in the home working or in the factory working, would make a great impact on the society. Architectural ideas as to better society are another thing these two authors had in common, as pointed out by Gill in the article. The elder author Beecher would make drawings in her articles about staging the home and using dividers as a way to make more areas in the home, and Gilman, being concerned about the lives led by farmer s wives, included drawings of a farming community shaped like a pie that had common areas to share, as to make life easier for them. Interesting enough, Gill included in her article a picture of a drawing done by Beecher, along with her sister Harriet Beecher Stowe, later in life of a block of houses with common areas used to house the homeless, helpless, and vicious which very much resembled Gilman s block community idea where people shared common spaces and so that some women could take care of the children and household duties while others went out in the community to work. This is an excellent example of Beecher thinking like Gilman in the mixing of public and private space. It is my opinion that the aging Beecher was beginning to think out of the box. This article was insightful and gave a great example of how people with a difference of opinion can actually be thinking the same. If one just read the two women s writings without an open mind, one would think

Apple became a well diverse company with the leadership of Jobs they had 15 product lines which were slashed down to 4 categories desktop and portable Macintoshes, for consumers and professionals. (Pg3) Not only did they have 15 different products which placed them in several different industries but they tried to depict themselves as Worlds greenest lineup of notebooks that was energy efficient and used recyclable materials (Pg 4) Rivalry The rivalry in this industry is high with the four top Pc vendors Hewlett Packard, Dell, Lenovo, and Acer accounted for 53.6 percent of worldwide shipments. (Pg 5) Even though it was Apple who founded the first personal computer it was IBM that brought them into the conventional lives of society. Within this time period there were a lot of mergers and acquisitions making rivalry amongst firms even greater as every time this occurred these merged companies would have more market share and more capital to help their business. Threat of substitutes A lot of these products were similar in many ways and allowed consumers to do pretty much the same things. For example a Laptop had a camera as did an iPad as well as a Ultra book, an iPhone and an iPod. All of these products could also go on the internet and have programs like Microsoft office. Competitors also had the same attributes so I would say threat of substitutes is high. Threat of new entrants Although there are many
  • 45. Soring In Horse Slaughter Soring is a cruel practice used on horses to exaggerate their gaits. It is commonly found in gaited horses such as the Tennessee Walking Horse. Chemicals such as mustard oil, diesel, or kerosene are put on the legs of the horse and left there for a few days. This causes painful sores, and to avoid detection at shows they often use a chemical stripping agent to get rid of the scarring. Then action devices such as chains are placed on these sores to make these horses accentuate their gaits. Another type of soring is grinding down the sole of the hoof to expose the sensitive tissues. These methods often make the horsepick up their legs higher and faster (AVMA, 2012). One way that soring could be stopped is if the public was made more aware
  • 46. Examples Of Manipulation In Hedda Gabler Hedda Gabler, written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, represents the power of manipulation, desire, and societal upbringing. The main character, Hedda, is the daughter of General Gabler and what makes her such a diverse character is that she portrays how power and greed can demolish one s humanity. As a female character, Hedda is fascinating to me as a reader because most plays and other works of art typically hold women as a possession to be protected or simply use them as a tool of sexual propaganda, yet Hedda is depicted as a womanof great power and control. She uses her power of manipulation to gain control of those around her not only to achieve her goals as a character but transition the societal expectations of women. While Hedda... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is a very impulsive woman and due to her incessant state of boredom, often becomes still crazy until she fulfills the void within her. Specifically, she states For once, I want to feel that I control a human destiny (Ibsen, pg. 266). Her ability to manipulate a situation can be contributed to the fact that Hedda was not raised like most women her age. As the daughter of a famous General, she was raised learning how to survive, operate weapons, and manipulate situations in her favor. As the main character, Hedda is exceedingly demanding when it comes to what she desires, power. While her newly found husband, George Tesman, is attempting to fulfill her physical desires, he continues to fall short due to their lack of communication and altered identities within their social construct. Due to this lack of similar desires, Tesman takes his wife on a six month long honeymoon and goes out of his way to purchase a house in which they cannot afford simply because Hedda mentioned that she would like to live in it unbeknownst to Tesman that she was simply wanting to develop the conversation. Hedda is easily jaded and because of this, she lashes out either violently or through whatever contributes to her
  • 47. A Summary Of Feminist Fairytale Equality For Female... Good Morning, F.F.E.F.F.C. or more officially, Feminist Fairytale Equality For Female Characters Conference, thank you for allowing me to be your keynote speaker and allowing me to share my knowledge with you on an issue I think we all feel so strongly about. My fellow female characters I want you to just think about this question, why are females mainly portrayed in literary fiction as docile, weak and vulnerable beings? Consistently we are made victims of our own stories waiting to be rescued by a Prince Charming. Yet what we fail to acknowledge is the impact of our stories and how our very important lives as female characters is helping to produce a societal upbringing of social genderroles that put females in an unequal spotlight. For those who don t know me, I m Molly Whuppie. And I am the protagonist of a classic Celtic folklore fairytale, a trickster as some may call me. My story has been passed down for decades and has left me with experience in activism along with my tireless commitment to people of our specific community. Luckily my story has been used throughout the years as almost a women empowerment tale. Unlike many other tales I defeated my own Giant. Obviously, because of the usage of my quick mind and fast feet I consistently outran and out tricked a mean giant attempting to kill me. The rarity in my story is exactly the reason why I m here with you all today. It s the fact that stories like mine are still not primarily represented in fairytales. Unfortunately, Even though I defeated my Giant, the reason I had to do what I did is what connects my stories with you all. I did what I must in order for my sisters and I to get married. During the time period of my fairytale and so many of yours, without marriage to enhance our lives and societal status we feel stuck. But now more than ever, we need to fight back against our original oppressive creators and rewrite our stories. But it s you that needs to reevaluate and see these problems first then make the decision that you feel is right in your heart. Just think about all the roles you ve all played in your own stories, and how they truly play out when you simplify the plots down. Snow White! Your gender was a threat to another woman and you

Role of HR Departments The HR model of the four HRM perspectives devised by Ulrich helps clarify the role of Personnel Departments (University of Sunderland 2004, p. 75). Strategic Partner As Strategic Partner the HR Department creates an appropriate organisational architecture with the target of achieving a match between factors such as culture and work processes and the organisation s strategic goals. Problems, however, might not only arise because of operational and strategic processes. The department also has to manage to align processes and people because both factors equally contribute to the success of the HR Department and the organisation. Another critical point is that the HR role and activities are very comprehensive and complex, maybe too comprehensive for one department, as it might be possible to lose control over all the different processes. HR Functions and Evaluation HR policy formulation The Personnel Department formulates strategic HR policy, bearing in mind the overall organisational context (University of Sunderland 2004, p. 84). If properly devised, HR policy formulation can make an essential contribution to corporate success. However, it has to be considered that if the department devises a wrong strategy it could slow down corporate development and thus future corporate success. Planning This activity comprises HR planning, recruitment and workforce planning and work organisation (University of Sunderland 2004, p. 84). A problem area is that future development and corporate needs might be difficult to

Originally, Tesco s soul focus was the retail grocery market. As of February 2010, the grocery market continues to be Tesco s largest source of revenue and it has accounted for more than 50% of Tesco s ВЈ 59.4 billion of sales. Also, within the past two years Tesco has been outsmarted by Asda and Sainsbury in price comparison initiatives and targeted marketing campaigns in UK. This has lead to trailing growth trends and stagnating market share for Tesco as displayed in Exhibit A (Tesco UK PDF). This is in turn, places more of an emphasis on the company s growth and profitability in foreign markets. In addition to company acquisitions such as its Fresh and Easy stores in the United States, Tesco looks to joint ventures to stimulate growth as exemplified by Samsung Group (Samsung and Tesco Home Plus) in South Korea and Tesco Lotus in Thailand. Despite the recession, Tesco showed 10.1% profit growth in 2009 on $96
