In 2009 the company greatly improved usability by upgrading the screen on the
phone and introducing a new user interface as well as improving web browsing
controls. In 2009 RIM also announced the BlackBerry App World for easy purchase
and downloading of BlackBerry compatible applications. (Research in motion, 2010)
Recent Problems RIM has had a rash of bad press due to failures in its email system
as well as its product and management strategy. RIM has suffered two major
disruptions of service in 2009 and 2011 that have tarnished the touted reliability
standard that has been a standard marketing tool for BlackBerry devices. In 2011
alone, RIM stock dropped more than 50% due to a series of product errors and
profit warnings. (Sharp amp; Prodhan, 2011) RIM was a latecomer to the phone
application and touch screen technologies, which are currently the most desired
options available on the market. BlackBerry App World went live on April 1, 2009
whereas the Apple App Store opened July 10, 2008 and the Android Market now
titled Google Play debuted October 22, 2008. It seems that apps were somewhat of
an afterthought to RIM and developmentally, they began the race after Apple and
Android were miles ahead. BlackBerry is not known to be a fun phone, which can
limit its consumer market to business minded individuals and an older age bracket,
possibly alienating the vital teen early
Present Wireless Scenario Consists Of Homogeneous
Network...
Present wireless scenario consists of homogeneous network and heterogeneous
networks. In homogeneous network each base station has similar transmit power
level, antenna pattern, receiver noise floor and similar backhaul connectivity. But
this type of network has disadvantage of coverage hole. In heterogeneous network
the macro BSs is collocated with micro, pico and femto cells. This arrangement
increases overall spectral efficiency per unit area (capacity) of the network.
Whereas small cell like micro, pico, femto and relays are used to avoid coverage
hole and to provide mobility to the users. Not only this relays can be used to
provide backhaul connectivity, where wire line link is not possible or are
expensive to deploy. As determined by the information theoretic capacity limits,
current cellular systems have evolved to a point where a system with one BS
achieves near optimal performance. Researchers are now moving towards more
advanced heterogeneous network topology which will bring the network more
closely to the mobile user leading to further capacity gains [46 49]. HetNets will
significantly improve the spectral efficiency per unit area by utilizing a diverse set of
BSs. 1.4Elements of Heterogeneous Network Heterogeneous deployment need to use
innovative cell association and inter celling interference coordination techniques in
order to realize the promised capacity and coverage gains. A typical heterogeneous
wireless technology as shown in figure 1.4 has the
Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome
Hutchinson Gilford Progeria syndrome (HGPS) is a very rare and destructive
genetic disorder. It is progressive, causing children to age rapidly beginning 2 years
after birth. Children with Progeria usually appear normal at birth, however by 1 year
the signs and symptoms of Progeria begin. Symptoms of Progeriainclude short
stature, bulging eyes, micrognathia, disproportion of head to body, alopecia,
beaked nose, pathologic bone fractures, hearing loss, photophobia and
hypertension. (Alves and others 2014) Progeria s occurrence is 1 in 4 million to 1
in 8 million live births and males are more frequently affected than females. The
average life expectancy for a child with Progeria is about 13. (King 2013) However
some with the disease die younger and some live to be 20 years or older. Death in
Progeria is primarily caused by heart attacks and atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a
disease in which the arteries become hardened. (Bhimji 2011) Although Progeria
demonstrates both autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive methods of
inheritance, most cases are due to random mutations (Alves and others 2014) In
2003 it was discovered that Progeria is caused by a single base mutation in LMNA
which results in the production of a mutant Lamin A protein product called Progerin.
(Blondel and others 2014) Progerin is toxic and causes distribution of the nuclear
structure, defects in DNA repairprocesses and other issues that are associated with the
premature aging that their bodies
Research Paper On Sacrifice
Sacrifice is when you give up something for someone that you love for their
happiness. My personal experience with sacrifice is when i used to play travel
softball, and my parent had sacrificed a lot of their time and money for me to be
able to do what i like to do. Whether it was making sure I had my uniform paid for,
or waking up really early in the morning they still sacrificed their time and money
for me. I had a softball tournament almost every weekend, and my parents would
wake up early every morning just to make sure I got to my games on time. All these
tournaments were at least an hour away, and even sometimes they were out of this
state. But my parents would sacrifice their time just to take me. Also, they had to buy
my uniform,
Michelangelo s David Research Paper
The story of David was one that held great significance to the people of Italy and
many artists had used David as the subject of their work. Michelangelo s David
(1501 04) and Bernini s David (1623) both depict the same subject matter but their
interpretations are very different due to the time periods they were produced in. In
my paper I will be explaining how the Renaissanceand the Baroqueperiods notably
changed the portrayal of David and how it influenced the artists of their times.
To begin, these art periods focused and displayed very different aspects of art. The
renaissance brought back Classical themes and techniques from ancient Roman and
Greek societies. Some of the most notable being a focus on the human body, using
contrapposto, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although using David as the subject of a piece was something that previous artists
had done, Michelangelo s David became a favorite to the people of Florence when it
was unveiled in 1504.The importance of David s nude body and its positioning is
obvious when we remember it was made during the Renaissance. Celebrating the
human form and having figures in contrapposto were defining aspects of this
period. Aside from being one of the most famous Renaissance artists, Michelangelo
is also regarded as one of the greatest artists and sculptors in history. Michelangelo s
David was, and still is, seen as the perfect and ideal image for the human body. The
amount of detail able to be seen, from the veins on his arms, to the muscles lining
his abdomen, shows how very meticulous Michelangelo was when it came when it
came to the human body. He cared so much about correct anatomy that he even
studied and dissected a human body to ensure an accurate but even more perfect
portrayal of the male figure. The elegance, beauty, and perfection displayed in
Michelangelo s David has made it into one of the most recognizable pieces of
Renaissance art in history. Many artists have been inspired by him and his artwork,

Depression Of A Herbal Clinic
Depression in a Herbal Clinic Understanding depression is vital in modern and
stressful times. Depression is not an exclusive condition and affects people from
all walks of life. From the word Depression one can instantly visualise the burden
(WHO, 2012) of this endemic condition. Churchill affectionately called it his black
dog (WHO, 2012). Is it widely known that October 10 is World Mental Health Day?
(WHO, 2014) Given the prevalence, death toll and disease burden mental health is
of great significance in a modern herbal practice. By 2030, depression alone is
projected to be the single leading cause of overall disease burden in high income
countries (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2012). Aristotle pinpointed...

Depression is different from usual mood fluctuations and short lived emotional
responses to challenges in everyday life. Especially when long lasting and with
moderate or severe intensity, depression may become a serious health condition. It
can cause the affected person to suffer greatly and function poorly at work, at
school and in the family. At its worst, depression can lead to suicide. Suicide
results in an estimated 1 million deaths every year. (WHO, 2012) Types of
depression (Mental Health Foundation , 2014) Mild depression Mild Depression is
said to have limited negative effect on a patient s daily life. For example, patients
having difficulty concentrating at work or motivation to engage in activities

or are said to comfort eat and thus over eat (Royal College of Psychiatrists, 2013).
Patients may experience only a single episode but several episodes in a lifetime are

Policy And Procedure Analysis Assignment
Policy and Procedure Analysis Assignment Policy and procedure make an
organization have a framework of how to operate and meet its goal. Policies are
principles, rules and guidelines adopted by an organization to reach its long term

govern action and determine an organization s relationship, activities and goals.
They help make sure that plans and ideas of the organization are being followed and
do achieve the set goals. One policyin my health care facility that needs updating is

Understanding The Experiential Learning Process
Reflection is the method of analysing an activity with a view of changing an
existing approach or adopting a new perspective on an experience (Nguyen et al
2014). Boyd and Fales (1983) state that this process is central to understanding the
experiential learning process . According to Trottier (2015) Open Source Intelligence
(OSINT) is the process of an organisation gathering and analysing information that is
available to anyone. Websites and applications dedicated to Social media is one of the
most popular in OSINT for information generation and wide spread dissemination;
security and intelligence agencies can capitalise on these opportunities to covertly
study, things such as terrorist group behaviour, cultural contexts and recruiting
platforms (Zeng et al, 2010). The British Army employs small investigative teams that
conduct an OSINT capability to deliver a similar effect. The British Army state that
learninglessons is important and that all members of the armed forces need to be
involved in order to transform the field army of the future (British Army, 2016). Its
overarching learning processes are a holistic organisational view at the macro level
with long term objectives; there is no evidence that prescripts how the smaller
capabilities, such as OSINT, should learn, adapt and progress in order to advance in
their specific contexts. This essay will look at how important active reflection is to
self develop and continually improve the OSINT capability in line with
Man Ray s Life Style
Man Ray
Early Life
Man Ray, was born Emmanuel Radnitzky (August 27,1890 November 18, 1976),
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. he was an accomplished American painter, filmmaker,
sculptor, illustrator, Dadaist and Surrealist, and photographer. Being a Dadaist and
Surrealist he was a huge contributor for the movement while it lasted. He was known
for documenting the lavished life style in France.
He spent most of his life living in France and America; he spent 42 years in America
and 44 years in France. Man Ray was born the son of a Jewish immigrant family
from Russia. Him and his family moved to Brooklyn, New York when he was
young. It is said that in the early midst of 1912 The, Radnitzky family changed their
surname to Ray. Emmanuel decided to use, Man Ray. Other sources say he changed
it to. Man , representing himself, and Ray represented of a ray of light or of the sun
(Fargler).
In high school Emmanuel was awarded with a scholarship to study architecture at
New York University, but did not accept the scholarship. His pursue of art led him
to join the, Art students League, and Academy of Design. His work was very
similar to Alfred Stieglitz (1864 1946) whom he was vary influenced by. In 1913 he
visited Stieglitz modern art at 291 Gallery located in Midtown Manhattan.
When older Man Ray would move to Ridgefield, New Jersey. From this time of Man
Ray s life, he was painting landscapes with brash, bright color palettes. In New Jersey

Natural Selection And Adaptation Essay
Life on Earth is made up of a diverse array of plants, animals and microorganisms.
The slow, diverse process of evolution results in such diversity. Natural selection is a
process that drives evolution by selecting for traits that allow an organism to adapt
and survive (and thereby reproduce) in its environment. Though adaptations help an
organism survive in its environment, every adaptation either results in the loss of
some other trait or reduces the performance of the other trait(s) (Freeman, 2013).
Adaptation as a result of evolutionby natural selectionmay result in anatomical
alterations and/or changes in behavior (Schussler, 2014). It has been observed that
investigating the type of diet sheds more light on the adaptations in cranial
morphology of a species than... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Four species of each group, carnivores and herbivores, were considered in this
experiment. In the Carnivore group, we focused on Taxidea taxus (badger), Lynx
rufus (bobcat), Vulpes vulpes (fox), Canis latrans (coyote) while in the herbivore
group we focused on Marmota monax (woodchuck), Odocolieus virginianus (deer),
Castor Canadensis (beaver) and Sylvilagus floridanus (rabbit). The length of the
nasal cavity, molar toothrow and skull length (max.) was measured in the three
individuals from each species using calipers and rulers (in centimeters); these three
measurements of individuals for each species serve as replicates (12 replicates in
total). The type of diet of the species is the independent variable while the length of
the nasal cavity and molar tooth row is the dependent variable. The data was
standardized by dividing the length of the nasal cavity/ tooth row by the maximum
length of the skull to compensate for differences in age and type of species (Schussler,

My First Step Of The Sociological Research Model
The first step of the sociological research model is to select a topic. In this case,
my topic is extending the school day. My second step is to define the problem. I
want to specifically learn if extending the school day would increase students
overall process through a given school year. The third step is to review the
literature. I will find books on the subject of an extended school day, read reports of
school that have adopted this system, and search the Internet for accounts of
individuals who have researched this topic. Next, I will formulate my hypothesis,
which is: Extending the school day will result in higher academic achievement and
increased learning on the part of students. Next, I will choose my researchmethod. For
my purposes, I think it would be best to choose an experiment, with one school
serving as the experimental group and one as the control group. Next, I will collect
the data. I must be sure to make sure the experiment measures what it is supposed to
measure. I need to determine the correct definition of academic achievement and
determine how I will measure it. I will determine academic achievement based on
letter grades that students receive on average. The seventh step is to analyze the
results and test my hypothesis. The last step is to share the results. In this case, I
might share my results by publishing them in an article or a journal. I will also
compare my findings to other theories of colleagues to determine they support or
disagree with
Scarlet Ibis Theme
James Hurst is the author of the short story The Scarlet Ibis. In this short story, the
Narrator has a little brother, which he has always wanted, but his brother is a little
off. Over time, the narrator tries to pull his little brother, who he named Doodle,
out of his not all there state. He teaches him how to walk first, and when he
succeeds, he is filled with pride. He then tries to teach him how to do other things
afterwards, such as swimming, climbing, and rowing. However, Doodle was not
meant to be able to do all these things, and because of the narrator s own selfish
pride, he overworks Doodle to the point of death. The issue in this story is that the
narrator believes in himself a little too much, so he thinks he can do anything.... Show

This is shown in the story on multiple occasions, and really show what the story is
about, and who the characters really are. An example of this is how the narrator
acts and what he says whilst teaching Doodle how to walk. In this, the narrator
seems to become proud of Doodle s accomplishments, but more of how he, himself,
had made them happen. Here, he also started to become irritated when Doodle didn
t do something right, which made him feel like he wasn t doing well enough.
Another example of theme in this story is when the narrator is crying when he and
Doodle showed their family that he had taught his brother to walk. When Doodle
tells them that his brother taught him all by himself, the narrator bursts into tears
because he knew what he had done was wrong. He feels that he is a slave to his
own pride, that he had only taught his brother to walk because he was ashamed of
him being crippled. Lastly, the story shows theme where the narrator starts to teach
Doodle other things beyond walking. These were activities such as running,
swimming, and fighting. He starts to believe in his own infallibility, and tries to
teach Doodle things that everyone knows Doodle should not be able to do. Also,
when Doodle does not do his best, or do something perfect first try, the narrator
shows us again that he gets angry or disappointed with not only Doodle but himself
as well. In conclusion, James Hurst s The Scarlet Ibis proves to us that whilst pride is
good, too much can destroy you, whether it is you directly or through you towards
somebody else. The author s purpose is to teach us that too much pride can harm us,
and we need to keep in under our own
A Brief Note On The Auto Industry And The Automobile
Industry
Two Tier Wages in the Auto Maker Industry Two tiered wages in the automobile
industry are a result of agreements for a government bailout with the top three auto
makers in the United States: GM, Chrysler, and Ford. One of the major issues
identified in the near fall of these major automakers, aside from increase in gas
prices and overall recessions, were the cost of labor. Hourly wages and
compensations were as high as $73 per hour for Ford, GM, and Chrysler despite
low overall low satisfactory and road test ratings (Milkovich, Newman, and
Gerhart, 2014) The two tiered wages would grandfather current employees to
continue receiving the same pay; however, new workers would receive about half
the pay and compensations despite doing the same work (Milkovich, Newman,
and Gerhart, 2014). Additionally, the Chevrolet Sonic is outsourced to the United
Automobile Workers (UAW) for even cheaper labor costs than the Tier II GM
workers. These methods have reduced the average cost of labor for GM from
$1160 per vehicle to $710. Ultimately GM could be saving $72 million per year in
labor costs alone as a result of the two tiered wages and outsourcing (Milkovich,
Newman, and Gerhart, 2014). Ultimately, this has made these companies more
competitive in local and foreign markets (Armend and Zoia, 2011). Two Tier Wages
Across the Border In 2008, Ford began building the Ford Fiesta in Cuautitlan
Mexico, which also adapted the two tier pay system (Rubber and Plastics News,
2008).
Similarities Between Gang And Gang
Comparing the terrorists to gang members. The gang does exactly do what terrorists
do. They despair and recruiting vulnerable young men, and control their
communities through brutal violence. We don t call them terrorists because they
don t have a specific vendetta against America as a whole. So, they can always be
classified as terrorists. The unlawful use of violence against people or property to
intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in
furtherance of the political or social objective. Anybody who has grown up in a
neighborhood knows that gangmembers use force or violence against people or
property to intimidate or coerce the civilian population. Gang banging can be
compared to terrorism. Some people believe that the two activities have common
goals and results. These groups turn to violence to obtain what they need. The
following research will explore this premise, as well as point out where the two
groups differ. Sometimes the government will try every means possible to obtain the
release of hostages without making concessions. It is a widely held belief that
making concessions to terrorists that will encourage more terrorism. Sometimes
terrorists will feel that their actions have obtained results. The United States tries to
learn about the goals and ideologies of terrorists, it does so only to better identify
and apprehend them. Educators search for ways to keep students from joining gangs.
Terrorism is a well thought out
Margaret Thatcher s Long History Of Foreign Affairs
Margaret Thatcher s long history of foreign affairs began in 1979 with the Soviet
invasion of Afghanistan. Thatcher personally condemned the invasion. She
convinced various British athletes that were to compete in the 1980 Moscow
Olympics to boycott the games. This action was very much in line with the tenants of
liberalism, which includes fighting for liberty and equality. Thatcher provided weak
support to then President of the United Sates Jimmy Carter who attempted to punish
the Soviet Union with various economic sanctions. Thatcher distrusted Communism
as a whole (as a liberal you hope for positive peace, Communism was not very
effective at providing a lack of war occurring, so Thatcher ultimately opposed
Communism all together) and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thatcher then boldly tripled the United Kingdom s nuclear forces in response. This
move could be seen as contradicting the tenants of Liberalism. In 19982, the ruling
military junta in Argentina ordered an invasion of the British Falkland Islands and
in turn triggered the Falkland s War. This moment was one of the most defining of
Margaret Thatcher s magnificent political career. Thatcher herself set up and was
chairperson of a small war cabinet that attempted to take charge of the conduct of
Britain during the war. Thatcher authorized a naval task force to retake the
Falkland Islands. Eventually, thanks to Thatcher s actions. Argentina surrendered
and the operation was considered an overall success. This is a prime example of a
deviation of Thatcher s from her liberal beliefs. Even though states do not always
agree on everything, such a bold move, involving going to war is not in line with
the central tenants of liberalism. While some claimed that Thatcher neglected the
defense of the Falkland Islands (as a liberal one must not neglect their state
holdings, a prime example of neglect of this kind was the Falkland Islands) that
eventually lead to the war, the majority considered her a highly capable war leader.
Luckily for Thatcher, the economy recovered in the beginning of 1982, which lead to
a divided opposition and contributed largely to Thatcher s reelection in the year 1983.
This shows that Thatcher was committed to liberal politics in her
Aa Meeting Experience Essay
I might be different than some people in this class, I ve had already had some
experience with AA meetings and NA meetings albeit as a young child. I had a
parent who would attend them from time to time and my sister and I would attend.
While this was many years ago, the setting was still the same to me as it was then.
Going to these kinds of meetings is something that is quite simple. You find out
where and you just show up when it is convenient to you. There s no signing in, you
don t have to pay anything, or make appointments. There are no meddling questions,
no commitments. Your confidentiality and privacy will be appreciated. You won t be
met with a mandate to come back to any meeting. You can go to multiple or as little
as you wish. Many have no idea what to expect in their first meeting. For some the
idea can be quite intimidating, so you will be relieved to find that your fears will be
unwarranted. AA meetings are stress free, welcoming and open.
It should be no surprise about the type of people that make up these meetings. In
terms of gender the meeting I attended had just a couple of more males than females.
There wasn t a huge disparity in the number though. Race was different, there was not
a prevailing race over another. I think that it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I saw about every type of person there was! During the course of the meeting many
of the preconceptions I had about alcoholics and A.A meetings were brought
clearly out into light as false. I used to think religion played a strong role, but I
soon learned that the A.A. based upon religion. Many just simply believe in a
power that is greater, but that s not to say that it is a god per say. I can also now see
members continue to attend meetings even after they have been sober for a while. I
think that this is because alcoholism is viewed by many as an illness that cannot be
cured and people most likely return to continue getting support and maintain
A Better Person InThe Alchemist, By Paulo Coelho
Imagine the impact of helping someone when they need it. When you help someone,
it can make someone s day, or make them want to help someone else, including you.
Because of this, not only you feel better but others will want to help you to.
Characters who help someone will receive a benefit, even if they do not know it at
the start. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns, When we
strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too. First,
good came after bad. Next, Santiago helps people who eventually help him. Last,
important lessons make Santiago become a better person.
First, good came after bad. For example, while Santiago is at Tarifa after he is
robbed, he meets a crystal merchant who allows him to clean his shop, which
results in him getting a job there. When they had eaten, the merchant turned to` the
boy and said, I d like you to work in my shop. Two customers came in today while
you were working, and that s a good omen (49). Good comes to Santiago after he
goes through the bad. He is robbed, and then he gets offered a job that will pay
him, so he has a chance to regain the money he just lost. Finally, since he still tries
to become better, he gets a job which will help him gain money for the journey. To
conclude, Santiago learns that even if something bad happens, if you still strive to
become better, you will be awarded.
Next, Santiago s friends help him become better. To clarify, when Santiago is on the
Idealist View Of Government In The Giver By Lois Lawry
The Giver by Lois Lawry illustrates how the enforcement of a totalitarian
government system inhibits those it seeks to govern as well as demonstrates the
difference between the philosophically based political concepts of the realist and
idealist point of view. As the American writer, Charlie Reese once stated, We... are
not really free if we can t control our own government and its policies. And we will
never do that if we remain ignorant . One can interpret from this statement that a
government that holds complete power over society and offers only limited
information to the governed is unjust. Throughout the plot of The Giver, the idealist
outlook of the government is constantly in juxtaposition with that of the Receiver
and the newly placed Giver Jonas outlook. An Idealist is viewed as a person who is
guided more by ideals and what they would like the world to be rather than by
practical considerations. For example, in the society depicted in the film The Giver
the government aims to control every component of life as a means of preserving the
greater good. These aspects range from housing, child placement, healthcare and job
assignments just to list a few. The idealist perspective of the government within the
film leads them to pursue a perfect society rather than allow the people governed to
establish the rules of their society themselves. When discussing this notion of
thinking in politics anyone who is well versed in this area would likely mention the

The Field And The Forensic Scientist s Work For Real Life
The show NCIS has increased in popularity over the years and has become the
most watched and popular crime show that currently is on television. NCIS stands
for Naval Criminal Investigative Service. These teams focus and work on crimes
that are related to the Navy or Marine Corps regardless of the crime s nature. The
show follows a fictional Naval Criminal Investigative Service Major Case Response
Team based in Washington, D.C. This specific team is underneath the leadership of
Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Solving a case is no easy feat and every case requires the
whole entire team. Gibb s team includes three field agents, a medical examiner, and
a forensic scientist. The purpose of this paper is to delve into any episode and
critique the different aspects of the case. I will be comparing the field and the
forensic scientist s work to real life. In most cases, these particular shows
dramatized real life so I will also explain how things would normally be done. I
chose to focus on a television show because as I stated before, shows tend to
glamorize the work that gets put into a criminal investigation, especially the work
of forensic scientists. The episode that I chose to focus on was from Season 6. It
was the fifteenth episode called Deliverance. Metro Police Department in
Washington D.C. responded to a call that stated that he or she heard shots being
fired in Liberty Heights which is a bad neighborhood. This 911 call was made in
conjunction with a man trying to sell
Medea Passion Vs Reason
Human emotions are among the most complex concepts in the world. Nobody will
truly comprehend the enigma which causes the people of this planet to act the way
they do. This can be viewed in a positive or negative light. On one hand, these
feelings cause empathy and compassion. On the other hand, when emotions turn into
burning passions, there could be lapses in judgment and rash decisions made based
on raw intuition. When passion overpowers reason, self governance is futile. Once
the heart is set on a goal, almost nothing will stand in its path, which is a prevalent
motif in Euripedes play Medea and my experience watching professional soccer
matches. Medea is a prime paradigm of passion being more powerful than reason.

Specifically, in my experiences watching countless professional soccer matches.
During the 2006 FIFA World Cup
, Zinedine Zidane, one of the greatest players of
his generation, got a red card in the final match. I was only eight years old so I was
not able to fully comprehend the consequences at the time. Looking back on it, I
realize that it was a moment of high emotion in which he did not think. He head
butted an opposing player and was sent off minutes before the penalty shootout.
Zidane let the entire nation of France down, as they narrowly lost on penalty kicks to
Italy. His passion caused his final professional soccer match before retirement to be
tarnished by the image of his infamous action. An occurrence of uncontained intensity
arose at the 2014 World Cup. This incident involved Luis SuГЎrez biting another
player. This event shocked the world because of its sheer peculiarity. Biting another
human is a rare occurrence, and the fact that it was SuГЎrez s third offense made it
even more shameful. I recall screaming at the TV when it happened, shouting, He
just did it again! repeatedly. He was deservedly banned from all soccer related
activity. In both cases, it is clear how little self control they were able to muster up.
When the crowd in the stadium roars with every touch of the ball, it is difficult to not
get emotional. When that emotion causes trouble and disappoints an
s Attitude Of The Character Of Voltaire And Voltaire
Of all of the disciplines mankind has invented, such as mathematics, the arts and
sciences, none is more fundamental than philosophy. Philosophy is the most basic
and fundamental disciple in that it asks the question of why . Why am I here? Why
do I exist? Do I exist? What is my purpose? Why do I act this way? Why do others
act that way?
Beyond philosophy, all of the other art science disciplines simply are there to fill in
the details about life.
Throughout human history, mankind has wondered these questions and developed
an ever refining system of honing the skills needed for teasing out the true answers to
these questions. Two such philosophers are Socrates and Voltaire. One was alive
during what might be considered the golden age of philosophical thought; 4th century
b.c. Greece. Voltaire, 17th century Paris. In this essay I will compare and contrast
Socrates attitude of the importance of philosophy to the Good Brahmin fictional
character of Voltaire.
Socrates was one of the founding fathers of the discipline of philosophy. He made
it his job . He saw it as a tool to improve the lives of Athens citizens. He understood
that people are naturally good and only do bad things out of ignorance or
misunderstanding. He believed that by using logic and reson, people can make
moral choices and therefore live a better life. For him Philosophy was a tool to use
for learning and teaching.
One of his allegories is that of the Cave. In it, he describes how man starts
Essay on Lan and Nos Architectural Components
1.What are the main architectural components of a LAN? (Minimum word count: 60)
The first characteristic in the LAN architecture is the physical arrangement of the
network. This is how the nodes connect. The topology of an LAN is the design
pattern of interconnections between the computers and network sectors. The second
component is the method of access for the nodes. Specifically, how the nodes
connect to the transmission medium. A network interface card is a device that
permits computers to be joined together in a network. The NIC acts as the
translator; it allows the devices to direct data on the LAN. The NIC has a port to
insert a cable that allows the device to be connected the network.
The third LAN component includes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the devices ability to share content with other networks. The devices have to

are used for communication between LANs. MAC addresses are used for devices on
the same LAN. IP addresses are used for communication between computers on
different LANs.
2.Describe the function and characteristics of a network operating system (NOS).
(Minimum word count: 100)
The NOS controls resources and content on a network. It also allows the network
service to be available to many clients on a LAN. The NOS consists of the server
and a client component. The NOC provides the physical connection point within the
network. NOS programs control the software or hardware within the network. NOS
were intended to support PC s or workstations.
There are four functions of the server component. The server allows many clients
access to the network. The server component delivers entry to file and print servers.
This component also allows Internet access and extra security within the
infrastructure. The client component is available on the users device and allows the
user to use the network. NOS typically have a menu interface. Administrators can

Letter To Lululemon Essay
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter today. Lululemon is a store, which I
visit often, due to the clothing being modern and popular. However, I am writing
you today to address a problem I ran into at your stores and to propose a possible
solution.
I noticed that Lululemon clothing prices are marked up a great percentage than
what a fair price would be. The fabric advertised is a special mix, Luon. However,
after completing research, many brands, such as Athleta and Adidas, use a similar
mix and their pants are lower in price. This would not be so much of a problem for
Lululemon if the quality matched the price. Yet, there have been complaints from
Lululemon customers where the clothing displayed pilling or sheerness after just a
few washes something I too have experienced. A customerexpects good quality from
their clothing, especially if they are willing to spend a large amount of money on it.
I have a proposal to solve the problem. A successful solution would include the
criteria of being affordable for everyone, creating a competitive market with athletic
brands, and maintaining the quality of clothing.
My solution is to lower the price of the clothing to match the quality. This would
create a fair price that would compete with other athletic clothing stores. On the ...

With this solution being said, there are potential objections. First of all, it could be
argued that Lululemon would lose money by lowering the cost of clothing. This is
not necessarily true as people already buy the clothing at the current price. Therefore,
lowering the price would theoretically increase the sales dramatically, which in turn
means Lululemon is making more money. A second objection is the fact that the
pants are expensive due to the brand name. While this is true, having an even slightly
lower price would attract more customers and grow the brand
Writing For Our English Class
Some Clamor Louder
Life is a small, spinning oyster, and it is one that I do not wish to eat. Emily s
proclamations often situate themselves between the abstruse and the overwrought,
and tonight, at this booth, in this sleek little Asian fusion restaurant, she has welded
both worlds. Em, I sigh, there s more on the menu than just seafood. Well, maybe I
don t want any of it. Maybe I want to starve. Fine, then starve. In the eleventh grade,
Emily presented an original poem for our English class not to be graded, but out of
creative expression. Before she began, she held her notebook page in front of us
and fanned it around the room. Her words appeared as sharp streaks of red on an
otherwise pale piece of paper. I wanted to make it look like blood, she prefaced, to
which a few students sneered. I shot a glance at Ms. Ward, who was not doing a
good job hiding her unease; one of her hands was prodding at her temple, a nervous
habit that I had come to notice. Emily cleared her throat.
In the South Pacific, I dream of beaches I dream of leeches sucking my skin.

The Return of Martin Guerre by Natalie Davis Essay
The Return of Martin Guerre by Natalie Davis
The Return of Martin Guerre written by Natalie Davis gives the audience a rare
glimpse into the world of peasant life in sixteenth century France. It also allows a
modern day audience a chance to examine and to compare their own identities and
questions of self. What makes the story so interesting to modern day viewers and
readers is how relevant the story and the people in it are to our own times. This
story is about a history of everyday people rather than royalty and generals, history
s usual subjects. The main focus of the story is on Bertrande de Rols and her place
in sixteenth century society, especially as a wife. At the age of nine, Bertrande was
married to Martin Guerre who was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only thing that Arnaud and Martin really had in common was that neither was
happy or had become very bored with their lives they were born into to remain where
they were. The question in hand is, how could Arnaud successfully trade his identity
for the identity of Martin Guerre?
There are several reasonable explanations the first is it was harder to identify
people with photos, identification, or similar means. Therefore only flawed memory
could serve the purpose of knowing what Martin looked like among peasants too
poor to have considered portraiture. Second, the Basque tradition which Martin
Guerre grew up placed a powerful emphasis on the importance of family and seeing
him return would have been, even after a less than honorable exit nearly a decade
before, a nearly joyous occasion. Finally, Davis points out what is the truly
amazing about Arnaud is that he had, a memory an actor would envy (35). Though
this mechanism alone, Davis believes, Arnaud is able to tap into a myriad number
of stories which he is able to consciously able to craft into a believable mask of
Martin Guerre one that would, seemingly, fool Martin Guerre s friends, family, and
his wife for several years. Even more amazingly, when much of his family was certain
that Arnaud was not actually Martin, he would nearly deceive several magistrates.
The fraud only did not go unpunished because the real Martin Guerre reappeared on

Cannibal Tours
In Cannibalizing, Commodifying , or Creating Culture? Power and Art in Sepik
River Tourism, Silverman makes several critiques of O Rourke s Cannibal Tours.
Silverman argues that O Rourke constructed a limited view of the New Guinea tribes.
Silverman attributes the eroding authenticity to the tourists pursuit for entertainment
in exchange for money. For instance, O Rourke s interviews mostly covered reactions
from tourists and how they gawked over the natives, arrogantly depicting their
primitive lives. Silverman argues that the film portrays tourism as a process that only
disempowers local people and erodes from their lives all genuine, meaningful
dimensions of their culture (Silverman 1996). Tourism is much more ... Show more

Anthropologists and filmmakers differ greatly from the tourists in this situation. The
filmmaker is sort of the in between of the tourists and anthropologist. For example,
O Rourke himself is not portrayed in the same manner that the other tourist are, but
in the eyes of the local people, he is as much of a tourist as anyone for the simple
fact that he is white. However O Rourke differs from the tourists because he is on
their land with a goal in mind of creating a film. Lastly, the anthropologists are
different from the latter because they go to primitive cultures with a broader view to
understand cross cultural perspective. Meaning, that they have the job of studying
and understanding one culture, but it is equally as important to compare those

Hearing Loss In Canada
The world is full of noise and excessive noise exposure can cause hearing loss.
There is more than 360 million of people are suffering from hearing losses (WHO)
and in Canada, around 20% of the population of the total peoples have this problem
(Static Canada). The reason for increasing the amount of hearing loss is because of
the growing number of older people and the uncontrolled sounds. However, the
static Canada shows us that, nearly 42 % peoples are at a risk of noise induced
hearing loss (NIHL), would benefit from putting hearing protection device (HPD).
NIHL is becoming more common nowadays and two factors are more important to

There are two types of HPDs are available i.e. passive HPDs and active HPDs. In
passive hearing protection, devices provided constant and steady noise attenuation
while active hearing protection devices give communication facility, noise
reduction, and amplitude technique. The conventional passive HPDs reduce the
signal power by a fixed amount and do not consider the decibel level and also do
not consider either to be speech signal or the noise. This type of earmuffs and
earplugs interfere the speech communication. There are two types technology for
active hearing aids are presented in the market i.e. analog and digital. The digital
signal processing (DSP) provides some advantages over analog processing such as
speed, accuracy, easy to carry out, and flexibility. Although so many years have
passed, first implemented the DSP algorithms in the HPDs, the user is still not
satisfied with the hearing aids and still facing disadvantages, the main reason is these
devices unable to simulate with the human auditory system properly
Germination of Cress Seeds
Background point 1:
There are several conditions that affect the germination of seeds. Most factors are
external but there are also some internal conditions that affect the germination of
seeds, even though this is quite rare. The most common and the most important
external conditions and factors that affect the germination of seeds are oxygen, water,
temperature and also in some cases light or darkness. Some plants require several
variables for successful seed germination. As this is quite rare, this often depends on
the individual seed and its natural habit.
Let s focus on the most important factors that affect germination of seeds.
Firstly we have oxygen which is required by the seed that is germinating for
metabolism. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Background point 2:
In the world, there are two basic sorts of seed and they have been named
monocotyledon respectively dicotyledon. Dicot seed contains of two parts which
have been named cotyledons. Their job is to supply the food for the growing of the
young plant. An excellent example of a dicot seed is the bean seed. Dicot seeds
consist of an outside cover, called seed coat, and also an embryo inside the bean. The
Greek word for two is dis , and that is where we get di from.
Seed which consists of only a single cotyledon are known as monocots. A corn seed
is a very good example of a monocot. The seed of a monocot stays in one piece and
does not split up. As the bean seed, the corn seed also has a seed coat, but this coat
doesn t get off as easily. There is as well a part of the seed called the endosperm
and this is the part where the monocot plants store their food. The Greek word for
one is monos , and that s where we get mono from.
Of course seeds consist of several components, but the three main and most significant
parts are the seed coat, the endosperm and the embryo.
The outer membrane of the seed is known as the seed coat and that is the part of
the seed that is visible. The coat of the seed is often hard and very difficult to break.
The outer membrane s function is to protect the sensitive parts that are inside the
seed from diseases and common damages. Even though all seeds have a seed coat,
there is
How I Changed My Life
Humans are amazing beings. We as humans are capable of doing great things.
Unfortunately many people are satisfied with being average, and not
accomplishing much in their life. Many people are convinced that they can t be
great or can t achieve greatness in their life. However I believe that anyone can
change his or her life for the better and obtain a successful and fruitful life. In this
essay I am going to talk about how I changed my life from an overweight teen with
no ambition to a relatively fit adult with a passion. It all started ever since I was a
little boy, about 12 years old. I used to eat a lot of food; you might even say I was
addicted to eating. I would eat no matter what. When I was sad I would eat, when I
was happy I would eat. Basically my emotional mind state would be dependent on
eating food. With that surplus of food, there was something else that made my
physical state even worse. I was extremely lazy and unmotivated. I had no
ambition; I would just sit around all day playing video games. So you could
imagine what happened to me with this huge surplus of food and lack of activity. I
was extremely overweight, I weighed 247 lbs.( 40% body fat) at the age of 14.
This took a toll on me mentally and physically. For example, anytime that I would
go to the mall with my friends, I would suffer a lot. I would see them trying on
clothes and buying new clothes, while these clothes would barley fit me. Also many
people would make fun of me. Due to my obesity I

There Are There No Consequences In Lord Of The Flies
Can a group of young cadets manage to live on their own on an island in the
middle of nowhere? In the movie Lord of the Flies , the system of law failed on the
island because rules weren t put in place, there were no consequences for
misbehaviour and the two leaders, Ralph and Jack, lacked leadership qualities.
The first reason the system of law failed on the island was because a set of rules
wasn t established. Any system of law requires rules and laws to be able to function
properly. For instance, when the young boys realized that they would have to work
together to survive in hopes of being rescued, they didn t decide on any rules that
they would live by. Without rules, any society could become an anarchy. For instance,

Had they have been good leaders, the system of law would have worked on the
island and the boys wouldn t have experienced the deaths of their fellow cadets,
Simon and Piggy. Firstly, Ralph was not a good leader because he wasn t strict
with the boys and no one feared him. No one took his orders seriously. Due to this,
none of the boys really respected his thoughts and ideas and they often were
slacking off instead of the jobs that they were supposed to be doing. If Ralph was
strict, the boys would have respected him more and they would have done all their
duties and maybe Jack might not have separated from Ralph. On the other hand,
Jack was not a good leader because he always wanted to do what he wanted and he
wanted to have fun. Also, he desires power for selfish reasons and it seems as if he
doesn t care for anyone on the island except for himself. In order for the system of
law to be successful anywhere in the world, a leader with great leadership qualities
needs to be in power, while also caring for his/her citizens. For example, Mahatma
Gandhi led India against the rule of the British. He cared for his fellow Indians and
was not in the pursue for power. Also, he was respected by others because he had a
hard mentality, while also being respected. He believed the truth shall prevail and

The results of the study showed that the VO2 max test on the treadmill was greater
than the VO2 max test on the cycle. This could be because subjects are more
comfortable on a treadmill compared to a bike. Subjects had more to say about his or

subjects completed the VO2 maxtests back to back days, leaving the subjects feeling
sore from the first VO2 max.
There are many important limitations of the lactate threshold tests that will be
discussed. During the treadmill lactate threshold tests, there was an occasion of
errors read on the Lactate Plus. This would lead to having to retesting, forcing the
subject to pause for a longer period in between stages. The delay could change the

There is a lot of lesson can be learned in this Atalio s story. Although tikbalang is
known to be the hopeless one, the purpose of the author in creating this character is
to give advice and remind people, both of the men and women. Maybe, the reason of
the author in conveying the messages is: first; to present the uniqueness and
importance in the human history of the different ways of Filipino courtships; to give
lesson that love isn t about wealth; and of course, the importance and unlikeness of
the Philippine Mythology. I conclude that maybe there are really some other girls

Anti Whaling Research Paper
I totally disagree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the
hunting of non endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption, because first
of whaling or hunting is cruelty, we should not have to kill animals, which can get
disappeared after a while. Even though they call it a research, hundreds of whales
per year could not be hunted. In Japan, they say that, they had a tradition of
whaling, but not all traditions are good, I mean killing whales could not be a good
tradition. There are many bad traditions in the world people were doing without
knowledge, but the governments or some organizations are working to prevent it. I
believe that, this is one of the bad traditions of our world.
No, I do not think the whaling ban constitutes a violation of these nation s
sovereignty, because it only provides prevention to some species, so that they will
not be in danger. It restricts the number of whales which may be hunted per year,
and commands on which seasons of the year will whaling be open or closed. In

Then there should be some rules to guide all the people and bring them in common
understanding. There need to be an international panel or board, which can decide
and give some decisions if they did not obey the rules. The most important thing is
that people should not have fear to the rules, instead of fearing to losing the species
of whales, all people should believe that, these whales are the beauty of the sea and it
is the responsibility of everyone to protect them from disappearing. Today because it
is their culture, they are whaling, what about tomorrow when all the species are in
danger, what will they do for their culture, the people of these countries need to think
this. So if everybody could understand this and knows his responsibility, I am sure
this will be solved in a short
ASTYM Treatment Principles
The Treatment FITT Principles A typical ASTYM treatment includes 8 10 treatments,
two times per week, with a 2 day break in between each session (e.g. Mon Th, Tu F,
M F). As for intensity, the pressure of using the tool varies based on the condition
being treated as well as the patient s tolerance. Training is required to use the tools
properly and address the soft tissue dysfunction. After the certified PT uses the
ASTYM tool on the soft tissue dysfunction, exercises are given to the patient to do in
order to use that new range of motion, and for functional purposes. Interventions vary
depending on the body impairment, but could include: strengthening the weak
muscles, increasing range of motion (by using the new motion gained from
treatment), performing daily activities with proper mechanics, etc. Each intervention
of ASTYM for treating one body impairment lasts about 10 minutes each session (or
whenever the dysfunction appears to be less restricted). Maximal results usually
achieved in 6 9 treatments. After 12 treatments, a patient probably won t see much
more results. 1 Lastly, ASTYM treatment is administered only by clinicians who have
completed a comprehensive training program and who are certified by Performance
Dynamics. 3 The training includes pre reading, pre tests, specific intensive treatment

5 Maximal force output of the lower extremity was measured by an isometric squat
test, before and after treatment in all participants. A sham treatment version of
ASTYM treatment was given to randomly selected participants. Results showed that
in those participants who received the actual ASTYM treatment had a significant
effect on the percent change of maximal force output. Study supports that ASTYM
can have an immediate effect on muscle performance for those who have muscle
weakness after a lower extremity musculoskeletal injury.

want. It would be for people from 8 months and up until 105 year old. This would
be for all the genders I would make them for girls or boy they would be able to
wear them at any time if it s cold or hot. The people that I think would wear them
the most would be able to wear them at any time if it s cold or hot. The people that
i think would be able to wear them the most would be the athletes because they
play sports if it s hot or cold. Both amature and professional would be able to use
this it doesn t take much skill to unzip and zip them. Both disabled and nondisabled
would be able to use them or someone else would do unzip them or zip them.
I say both could use them all you would have to do is zip them and unzip them all
you would have to dois zip them and unzip nothing else. No I couldn t find other
pants like mine and if their is the thing that makes mine different is that it would have
a zipper at the bottom so you wouldn t have to take your shoes off. You would only
unzip the bottom and the top so they can turn into shorts. They would also come in
the color you like Blue, Black, Pink etc. The biggest size you would be able to get
will be XXL and the smallest would be XS for all ages. There will also be for babies
there would be for all the sizes for babies so everyone would be able to wear them.
The functionality would be just to zip it off so they would turn into shorts. This
Personal Narrative On Independence
About seven months ago tax season was upon us. The time people either rejoice in
receiving a fair amount of money or grieve in a large pay in. For me, it was a time
of happiness. I was going to file my taxes for the first time. My information came
in the mail and to H R Block I went. The excitement of progressing to my
independence was overwhelming to say the least. I was finally taking my first step
to doing things on my own. The day came when my bank account overflew with that

to get to business.

I immediately took them all to my bedroom and began opening them. All the pieces

I, of course, immediately began building and assembling the computer. I tried to

Fiorilli started in the healthcare industry 35 years ago after the finance business he

The transplant department at the Cleveland Clinic saves lives on a daily basis, and

janitorial staff that cleans the room, and everyone in between, each one has their
own part to play in the world class care of our patients. Coming from the finance
department, they key issue Mr. Fiorilli deals with, is the rising cost of health care.
He believes that with more than forty million people dependent upon entitlements,
the deep economic issues of our country are driving up the cost of health care.
From the finance perspective, the number of dollars that are written off to charity
must come from somewhere, and the government subsidies that used to cover
those costs, no longer do. Medicare pays less and less every year, increasing
disallowances for cpt codes they paid the year prior, and the two percent
sequestration they now withhold on every claim has cut deeply into the intake of
every care giver and facility in the country. To offset those costs, the care givers must
raise rates of the self pay and commercial insurance. The more the government pays
out in entitlements the less they have to subsidize facilities. Mr. Fiorilli states he

Ice Hockey History
Hockey is a sport that s been around for almost 200 years now, it s a competitive
sport that s played all across our world, and it has plenty of history behind it.
Anyways, if you ask anyone in Canada about it, they would most likely be able to
tell you a few things about it. When people think of Canada, Hockey can often
come to mind. The sport developed and grew in Canada, created by students
(soldiers) of King College School, to a small village in Nova Scotia, named
Windsor. The game used to be a field game, called Hurley, and soon enough they
decided to take it to the ice, where it earned the name Ice Hurley . Over time, the
game finally earned a new name, as we know it as of today, Ice Hockey. At this time,
it was really beginning to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Hockey also helped cement Canada, and plenty more of countries
status as a nation with its own identity , which is completely true. Canada and the
rest of North America is well known for hockey, also it being the home of the NHL,
it wouldn t be the same place without it at all. As many people know, it s a very
difficult sport to play, and if you play it consider it a talent, even a gift, its known
as one of the hardest games to play in the world. The sport can also help with many
traits, such as reflexes, stamina, hand eye coordination and more. Otherwise,
many people across the world have tons of passion for the sport, lots of citizens all
across the world put their life into it, it s their JOB, and it s well worth it, because
the people who do that make millions a year, which is crazy... especially just for
playing a game, but in front of 20,000 paying fans of course. Some parts of our
world revolve around the game, without it, there would be an enormous missing
piece. So that can explain how it has affected our world, also because it s been
around for about 200 years now, it really has a huge history behind it, which has

Analysis Of Local Search Algorithm For STP
From the tree SP we presented in the algorithm that we have obtained via Local
Search Algorithm for STP, we have generated the matrix of cost. This is done by
assigning a cost to all the edges of tree SP and by assigning a cost on n no. of
nodes to all the other edges in graph. This assignment of cost helps in recognizing
the cost of the longest possible path between a pair of nodes in any spanning treeis
nв€’1 (i.e. it passes nв€’1 edges) while the cost of the shortest path between any pair
of nodes without using of SPT edges is at least n (i.e. passes one edge).
Consequently, the 802.1d protocol will produce the intended spanning tree SP .

the obtained spanning tree from above algorithm we add two types of edges so that
we can get a bi connected graph. The bi connected graph has a significance that if
any of the edge becomes down then also the network will be connected via another
edge. This gives us assurance of always up time for a network. This means in case of
link failure alternate link will always be present to ensure the network connectivity.
In this type1 edge connect a leaf with the higher level node while the type 2 edge
connect a non leaf node (not the root) with the no leaf node or lower level node of
different branch. For each tree new n 1 edges are added while the generation of bi

To pretend a network in which a switch has many ports, we define a ratio r . This
means each node in the tree is connected to at least r edges. In each test graph, from
the generated bi connected graph, we create three more trees with ratio r15 = n/15,
r10 = n/10 and r5 = n/5 (where n = no. of nodes).

Don t Be Willing For Pay The Price
Don t be afraid to be willing to go after what you want to do, and what you want to
be. But don t be afraid to be willing to pay the price. Lane Clyde Frost was born on
July 13, 1956 in LaJunta, Colorado to Clyde and Elsie Frost. Lane was named after
his father and was the middle child. He had an older sister, Robin, and a younger
brother, Cody. Lane grew up working on the dairy farm that his parents owned. His
father Clyde was a bull rider and took the game very serious. He missed the birth of
his second child because he was away on the rodeocircuit making money as a saddle
bronc and bareback rider. Clyde also competed in five National Finals Rodeos.
Lane became very interested in rodeo as a young boy. His mother even made him
his first pair of chaps, she remembers saying that she hoped he would outgrow this
rodeo thing. However, as Lane got older his love for rodeo only grew. When Lane
was in junior high he excelled in wrestling. Weighing only 75 pounds Lane won 45
matches, lost four, and had two ties. Even though he was very good at wrestling
his heart was still in the rodeo ( Official Lane Frost Site ). On January 5, 1985,
Lane married Kellie Kyle at the United Methodist Church in Quanah, Texas. Lane
and Kellie met in 1980 at the National High School Rodeo Finals, this is also where
he met his long time best friend, Tuff Hedeman (Ebert). Many know of Lane from
the movie 8 Seconds, however what they are not aware of, is the kind of guy Lane
was and what all he had
A Look At African American Political Policies and Social...
When looking at African American political policies and social status both in their
native country and in America, it is important to see where their practices came from.
First, when looking at the rich history of Africa, it is necessary to examine the
African values. In Africa, their value system consisted of, affiliation, collectivity,
sharing, obedience to authority, spirituality, acceptance to fate and past time
(Pinderhughes, 1982, p.91). This is the framework the African people knew before
coming to the America s via the slave trade. Once in America the new African
Americanvalues emphasized individualism, social status, and financial aspirations
(Jones, 1985). These are critical in understanding the political side of things... Show

African American mothers provide for their children s physical survival and
attending to their emotional needs happens, but there is a collective responsibility to
look out for other mothers children as well (Collins p. 328). This community based
childcare and reliance on others stems from the exploitation of Africans as slaves.
No one more could nurture her child and take that up as an occupation; they had to
look out for one another at their place of employment. Even when the Emancipation
came about and the political role of women changed in America with domestic jobs,
the meaning of work and the way women handled family never changed (Collins p.
330).
Women taking that interconnectedness and collective responsibility forward also
allowed them to be community leaders by default. African American women
understood the need to take care of their own children and when they did so they
had to emerge in a leadership type role and took it further with being an active voice
in the community. All of that considered, those same qualities allowed for a very
grass roots type approach to the activism in communities that took place during the
Civil Rights Movements.
With the cultural aspects in place, looking at the political policies of Africa begin to
unravel and make more sense. The Europeans colonized Africa for a real long time
with countries like England, France, Spain, and Portugal all taking claims in the
native African land. In that regard there has always been a white
Rj Reynolds Tobacco Company And Nabisco Brands
In 1985, RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and Nabisco Brands, RJR Nabisco was
formed. Then in 1988 Kohlberg Kravis Roberts Co purchased RJR Nabisco for $25
billion. RJR Nabisco regularly turned in solid earnings gains, but its stock went
nowhere. F. Ross Johnson attempted various tactics to improve the stock price, and
when newest product, the RJR s smokeless cigarette, produced little benefit, he
decided shareholders would get their money s worth through a leveraged buyout. On
top of the slowing sales, the tobacco industry was facing more government
interference in the form of taxation and increased regulation. In October 1988, the
company s top executives led by Mr. Johnson and backed by the investment
banking and brokerage house of Shearson Lehman announced plans to buy RJR
Nabisco for $17 billion or $75 a share. However, corporate directors were required
by law to open the bidding to all potential bidders in order to get the highest price
for shareholders, Mr. Johnson did not expect any real competition. His bid topped
the stock s current market price of around $55, and he assured the board, it
represented the company s true corporate interest. Henry Kravis, a cofounder of the
LBO specialist firm of Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts Company proceeded to out bid
Mr. Johnson and acquired the company. Soon after the deal was signed, Kohlberg
Kravis despite his promises quickly began selling pieces of RJR Nabisco to pay

The Aristotle s Idea of a Good Life Essay
Question: What is Aristotle s idea of a good life and why does he view a good life
in this way? Is Aristotle s understanding of a good life accurate? Why or why not?
(Make sure to talk about the concept of the mean). To Aristotle leading a good life,
for the most part, means fulfilling one s purpose in a way that is good by balancing
life s pleasures. In order to determine if an object fulfills its function in a good way,
we must first consider the object. If we were to agree that a car should be reliable,
then we could also agree that reliable car should be considered a good car. Similarly,
animals, for example, possess certain traits like the power of locomotion, and the
desire to seek nourishment and reproduce. According to... Show more content on

Aristotle studied under Plato, who studied under Socrates, yet Aristotle tended to
be more real world oriented with regard to how he thought. Aristotle has come to
be known as the father of logic, and has been credited as the first person to classify
knowledge in specific categories like mathematics, and biology. Indeed, his sound
reasoning skills and belief in the scientific method form the framework for much
of his work, and his idea of a good life is probably no different (Richter, 2008).
Aristotle was an observer of nature, and recognized the need for balance in natural
systems. He could have reasoned that since humans are products of nature, we too
must find a balance with in our environments. This probably led to the idea of a
golden mean, or balance between two extremes that humans should strive to
achieve. The golden mean is not an exact middle or average in the mathematical
sense, but rather a flexible guideline that can vary depending on the situation. In
this way, it could be said that courage is the desirable trait that exists between
cowardliness and recklessness. However, where courage lies between these two
extremes varies from situation to situation, so a baseline cannot be defined to
cover every case. For example, risking one s life in battle to save the lives of others
would be considered a courageous act, while risking one s life through heavy alcohol

Hydraulic Civilizations and the Philanthropic Industrialists
1. Historical Origins
For many planners and historians the origin of ancient cities has been a source of
fascination and the cause for much research and debate. One theory developed by the
German American historian Karl Wittfogel was that of hydraulic civilizations
(Minnery 2010a). Hydraulic civilizations were described as those whose agricultural
system was reliant upon significant government directed water systems for irrigation
and flood management (Encyclopædia Britannica 2010). Wittfogel listed that Egypt,
India, Mesopotamia, Northern China and pre Columbian Mexico and Peru were
examples of hydraulic civilizations (Minnery 2010a). This paper will focus on the
theories of the Wittfogel s hydraulic civilization and then try to draw ... Show more

One other dissimilarity is that of Brisbane s environment. It isn t arid or semi arid
in fact it was once lined with sand covered beaches and the water was clear and
blue (Our Indooroopilly 2002). Therefore it is difficult to prove that Brisbane has
similar qualities to that of a hydraulic civilization and Wittfogel s theories can be left
in the past with the Old World . 3. The Philanthropic Industrialist
The United Kingdom in the late eighteenth and nineteenth century was home to the
bustling and demanding Industrial Revolution. Factories emerged all over the
country as technology advanced into an era of mass production. In many of these
factories the conditions were unclean, unsafe and ultimately appalling. Some factory
owners however, sought out to improve the quality of life for their workers. These
few are recognised as the Philanthropic Industrialists . They implemented what has
become known as the company town which saw the social and economic qualities of
the township under the control of the industrialist (Pollard 1964). This paper will
discuss one UK example in the town of New Lanark, in particular the philanthropy of
Robert Owen and will examine whether this town and Owen s theories have been
influential up until the present day.
New Lanark in Scotland was initially founded by David Dale in 1785 (The Open
University 2009). The Clyde River which ran along New Lanark s location provided
water to power the four
Investigating And Writing About The Ashanti People
For my research paper, I am going to be investigating and writing about the Ashanti
people. The Ashanti people inhabit what is today Ghana, West Africa, with their
capital city being Kumasi. I am interested in this subject because I spent four weeks
of this summer in Ghana. While I spent most of my time with the Fante people on the
coast, we toured Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and I was instantly intrigued by the
Ashanticulture. I also personally know an Ashanti that has moved to the United
States, which makes me all the more interested to explore how globalization, as
defined by Manfred Steger, has shaped her life and culture. The issues that I am
going to be investigating in this paper are ones that I have had first hand experience

Ghana was called The Gold Coast until its independence was gained from the British
in the 1900s, due to the abundance of gold. This, along with the eventual slave trade
was a catalyst for the arrival of Europeans in the area in 1471. The Ashanti Empire
was founded in 1697 by King Osei Tutu I. At its height, the Ashanti Empire was
incredibly rich and powerful, larger than modern day Ghana, and even had European
advisors. Dress was extravagant, rituals were important, and courts, tax systems, and
military organizations were all being employed. Yet, as is the case with many African
nations around this time, conflict with Europeans eventually arose. The first conflict
between the Ashanti and Europeans was with the British, and it occurred in 1824.
The Ashanti emerged victorious with the death of the British governor. During the
second conflict with the British, the Ashanti were defeated and Kumasi was captured.
The near fall of the Ashanti Empire came in 1896, when the Ashanti were defeated by
the British and King Prempeh was exiled to the Seychelles. After this, the Ashanti
attempted one last attack on the British fort, spurred on by the disrespect they were
being shown by the British governor, but they were ultimately defeated. However,
many of the traditions and cultural aspects of the ancient Ashanti s still exist today.
Art and language are two ways in which Ashanti culture has been preserved

In 2009 RIM also announced the BlackBerry App World for easy purchase and downloading of BlackBerry compatible applications. (Research in motion, 2010) Recent Problems RIM has had a rash of bad press due to failures in its email system as well as its product and management strategy. RIM has suffered two major disruptions of service in 2009 and 2011 that have tarnished the touted reliability standard that has been a standard marketing tool for BlackBerry devices. In 2011 alone, RIM stock dropped more than 50% due to a series of product errors and profit warnings. (Sharp amp; Prodhan, 2011) RIM was a latecomer to the phone application and touch screen technologies, which are currently the most desired options available on the market. BlackBerry App World went live on April 1, 2009 whereas the Apple App Store opened July 10, 2008 and the Android Market now titled Google Play debuted October 22, 2008. It seems that apps were somewhat of an afterthought to RIM and developmentally, they began the race after Apple and Android were miles ahead. BlackBerry is not known to be a fun phone, which can limit its consumer market to business minded individuals and an older age bracket, possibly alienating the vital teen early
  • 3. Present Wireless Scenario Consists Of Homogeneous Network... Present wireless scenario consists of homogeneous network and heterogeneous networks. In homogeneous network each base station has similar transmit power level, antenna pattern, receiver noise floor and similar backhaul connectivity. But this type of network has disadvantage of coverage hole. In heterogeneous network the macro BSs is collocated with micro, pico and femto cells. This arrangement increases overall spectral efficiency per unit area (capacity) of the network. Whereas small cell like micro, pico, femto and relays are used to avoid coverage hole and to provide mobility to the users. Not only this relays can be used to provide backhaul connectivity, where wire line link is not possible or are expensive to deploy. As determined by the information theoretic capacity limits, current cellular systems have evolved to a point where a system with one BS achieves near optimal performance. Researchers are now moving towards more advanced heterogeneous network topology which will bring the network more closely to the mobile user leading to further capacity gains [46 49]. HetNets will significantly improve the spectral efficiency per unit area by utilizing a diverse set of BSs. 1.4Elements of Heterogeneous Network Heterogeneous deployment need to use innovative cell association and inter celling interference coordination techniques in order to realize the promised capacity and coverage gains. A typical heterogeneous wireless technology as shown in figure 1.4 has the
  • 4. Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome Hutchinson Gilford Progeria syndrome (HGPS) is a very rare and destructive genetic disorder. It is progressive, causing children to age rapidly beginning 2 years after birth. Children with Progeria usually appear normal at birth, however by 1 year the signs and symptoms of Progeria begin. Symptoms of Progeriainclude short stature, bulging eyes, micrognathia, disproportion of head to body, alopecia, beaked nose, pathologic bone fractures, hearing loss, photophobia and hypertension. (Alves and others 2014) Progeria s occurrence is 1 in 4 million to 1 in 8 million live births and males are more frequently affected than females. The average life expectancy for a child with Progeria is about 13. (King 2013) However some with the disease die younger and some live to be 20 years or older. Death in Progeria is primarily caused by heart attacks and atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a disease in which the arteries become hardened. (Bhimji 2011) Although Progeria demonstrates both autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive methods of inheritance, most cases are due to random mutations (Alves and others 2014) In 2003 it was discovered that Progeria is caused by a single base mutation in LMNA which results in the production of a mutant Lamin A protein product called Progerin. (Blondel and others 2014) Progerin is toxic and causes distribution of the nuclear structure, defects in DNA repairprocesses and other issues that are associated with the premature aging that their bodies

My personal experience with sacrifice is when i used to play travel softball, and my parent had sacrificed a lot of their time and money for me to be able to do what i like to do. Whether it was making sure I had my uniform paid for, or waking up really early in the morning they still sacrificed their time and money for me. I had a softball tournament almost every weekend, and my parents would wake up early every morning just to make sure I got to my games on time. All these tournaments were at least an hour away, and even sometimes they were out of this state. But my parents would sacrifice their time just to take me. Also, they had to buy my uniform,
  • 6. Michelangelo s David Research Paper The story of David was one that held great significance to the people of Italy and many artists had used David as the subject of their work. Michelangelo s David (1501 04) and Bernini s David (1623) both depict the same subject matter but their interpretations are very different due to the time periods they were produced in. In my paper I will be explaining how the Renaissanceand the Baroqueperiods notably changed the portrayal of David and how it influenced the artists of their times. Celebrating the human form and having figures in contrapposto were defining aspects of this period. Aside from being one of the most famous Renaissance artists, Michelangelo is also regarded as one of the greatest artists and sculptors in history. Michelangelo s David was, and still is, seen as the perfect and ideal image for the human body. The amount of detail able to be seen, from the veins on his arms, to the muscles lining his abdomen, shows how very meticulous Michelangelo was when it came when it came to the human body. He cared so much about correct anatomy that he even studied and dissected a human body to ensure an accurate but even more perfect portrayal of the male figure. The elegance, beauty, and perfection displayed in Michelangelo s David has made it into one of the most recognizable pieces of Renaissance art in history. Many artists have been inspired by him and his artwork, including Gian Lorenzo

Understanding The Experiential Learning Process Reflection is the method of analysing an activity with a view of changing an existing approach or adopting a new perspective on an experience (Nguyen et al 2014). Boyd and Fales (1983) state that this process is central to understanding the experiential learning process . According to Trottier (2015) Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) is the process of an organisation gathering and analysing information that is available to anyone. Websites and applications dedicated to Social media is one of the most popular in OSINT for information generation and wide spread dissemination; security and intelligence agencies can capitalise on these opportunities to covertly study, things such as terrorist group behaviour, cultural contexts and recruiting platforms (Zeng et al, 2010). • 12. Natural Selection And Adaptation Essay Life on Earth is made up of a diverse array of plants, animals and microorganisms. The slow, diverse process of evolution results in such diversity. Natural selection is a process that drives evolution by selecting for traits that allow an organism to adapt and survive (and thereby reproduce) in its environment. Though adaptations help an organism survive in its environment, every adaptation either results in the loss of some other trait or reduces the performance of the other trait(s) (Freeman, 2013). Adaptation as a result of evolutionby natural selectionmay result in anatomical alterations and/or changes in behavior (Schussler, 2014). My second step is to define the problem. I want to specifically learn if extending the school day would increase students overall process through a given school year. The third step is to review the literature. I will find books on the subject of an extended school day, read reports of school that have adopted this system, and search the Internet for accounts of individuals who have researched this topic. Next, I will formulate my hypothesis, which is: Extending the school day will result in higher academic achievement and increased learning on the part of students. Next, I will choose my researchmethod. For my purposes, I think it would be best to choose an experiment, with one school serving as the experimental group and one as the control group. Next, I will collect the data. I must be sure to make sure the experiment measures what it is supposed to measure. I need to determine the correct definition of academic achievement and determine how I will measure it. I will determine academic achievement based on letter grades that students receive on average. The seventh step is to analyze the results and test my hypothesis. The last step is to share the results. In this case, I might share my results by publishing them in an article or a journal. I will also compare my findings to other theories of colleagues to determine they support or disagree with
  • 15. Scarlet Ibis Theme James Hurst is the author of the short story The Scarlet Ibis. In this short story, the Narrator has a little brother, which he has always wanted, but his brother is a little off. Over time, the narrator tries to pull his little brother, who he named Doodle, out of his not all there state. He teaches him how to walk first, and when he succeeds, he is filled with pride. He then tries to teach him how to do other things afterwards, such as swimming, climbing, and rowing. However, Doodle was not meant to be able to do all these things, and because of the narrator s own selfish pride, he overworks Doodle to the point of death. The issue in this story is that the narrator believes in himself a little too much, so he thinks he can do anything.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is shown in the story on multiple occasions, and really show what the story is about, and who the characters really are. An example of this is how the narrator acts and what he says whilst teaching Doodle how to walk. In this, the narrator seems to become proud of Doodle s accomplishments, but more of how he, himself, had made them happen. Here, he also started to become irritated when Doodle didn t do something right, which made him feel like he wasn t doing well enough. Another example of theme in this story is when the narrator is crying when he and Doodle showed their family that he had taught his brother to walk. When Doodle tells them that his brother taught him all by himself, the narrator bursts into tears because he knew what he had done was wrong. He feels that he is a slave to his own pride, that he had only taught his brother to walk because he was ashamed of him being crippled. Lastly, the story shows theme where the narrator starts to teach Doodle other things beyond walking. These were activities such as running, swimming, and fighting. He starts to believe in his own infallibility, and tries to teach Doodle things that everyone knows Doodle should not be able to do. Also, when Doodle does not do his best, or do something perfect first try, the narrator shows us again that he gets angry or disappointed with not only Doodle but himself as well. In conclusion, James Hurst s The Scarlet Ibis proves to us that whilst pride is good, too much can destroy you, whether it is you directly or through you towards somebody else. The author s purpose is to teach us that too much pride can harm us, and we need to keep in under our own
  • 16. A Brief Note On The Auto Industry And The Automobile Industry Two Tier Wages in the Auto Maker Industry Two tiered wages in the automobile industry are a result of agreements for a government bailout with the top three auto makers in the United States: GM, Chrysler, and Ford. One of the major issues identified in the near fall of these major automakers, aside from increase in gas prices and overall recessions, were the cost of labor. Hourly wages and compensations were as high as $73 per hour for Ford, GM, and Chrysler despite low overall low satisfactory and road test ratings (Milkovich, Newman, and Gerhart, 2014) The two tiered wages would grandfather current employees to continue receiving the same pay; however, new workers would receive about half the pay and compensations despite doing the same work (Milkovich, Newman, and Gerhart, 2014). Additionally, the Chevrolet Sonic is outsourced to the United Automobile Workers (UAW) for even cheaper labor costs than the Tier II GM workers. These methods have reduced the average cost of labor for GM from $1160 per vehicle to $710. Ultimately GM could be saving $72 million per year in labor costs alone as a result of the two tiered wages and outsourcing (Milkovich, Newman, and Gerhart, 2014). Ultimately, this has made these companies more competitive in local and foreign markets (Armend and Zoia, 2011). Two Tier Wages Across the Border In 2008, Ford began building the Ford Fiesta in Cuautitlan Mexico, which also adapted the two tier pay system (Rubber and Plastics News, 2008).

Thatcher personally condemned the invasion. She convinced various British athletes that were to compete in the 1980 Moscow Olympics to boycott the games. This action was very much in line with the tenants of liberalism, which includes fighting for liberty and equality. Thatcher provided weak support to then President of the United Sates Jimmy Carter who attempted to punish the Soviet Union with various economic sanctions. In 19982, the ruling military junta in Argentina ordered an invasion of the British Falkland Islands and in turn triggered the Falkland s War. This moment was one of the most defining of Margaret Thatcher s magnificent political career. Thatcher herself set up and was chairperson of a small war cabinet that attempted to take charge of the conduct of Britain during the war. Thatcher authorized a naval task force to retake the Falkland Islands. Eventually, thanks to Thatcher s actions. Argentina surrendered and the operation was considered an overall success. This is a prime example of a deviation of Thatcher s from her liberal beliefs. Even though states do not always agree on everything, such a bold move, involving going to war is not in line with the central tenants of liberalism. While some claimed that Thatcher neglected the defense of the Falkland Islands (as a liberal one must not neglect their state holdings, a prime example of neglect of this kind was the Falkland Islands) that eventually lead to the war, the majority considered her a highly capable war leader. Luckily for Thatcher, the economy recovered in the beginning of 1982, which lead to a divided opposition and contributed largely to Thatcher s reelection in the year 1983. This shows that Thatcher was committed to liberal politics in her

Idealist View Of Government In The Giver By Lois Lawry The Giver by Lois Lawry illustrates how the enforcement of a totalitarian government system inhibits those it seeks to govern as well as demonstrates the difference between the philosophically based political concepts of the realist and idealist point of view. As the American writer, Charlie Reese once stated, We... are not really free if we can t control our own government and its policies. And we will never do that if we remain ignorant . One can interpret from this statement that a government that holds complete power over society and offers only limited information to the governed is unjust. Throughout the plot of The Giver, the idealist outlook of the government is constantly in juxtaposition with that of the Receiver and the newly placed Giver Jonas outlook. An Idealist is viewed as a person who is guided more by ideals and what they would like the world to be rather than by practical considerations. For example, in the society depicted in the film The Giver the government aims to control every component of life as a means of preserving the greater good. These aspects range from housing, child placement, healthcare and job assignments just to list a few. The idealist perspective of the government within the film leads them to pursue a perfect society rather than allow the people governed to establish the rules of their society themselves. When discussing this notion of thinking in politics anyone who is well versed in this area would likely mention the contrasting

Why do others act that way? Beyond philosophy, all of the other art science disciplines simply are there to fill in the details about life. Throughout human history, mankind has wondered these questions and developed an ever refining system of honing the skills needed for teasing out the true answers to these questions. In the eleventh grade, Emily presented an original poem for our English class not to be graded, but out of creative expression. Therefore only flawed memory could serve the purpose of knowing what Martin looked like among peasants too poor to have considered portraiture. Dicot seeds consist of an outside cover, called seed coat, and also an embryo inside the bean. The Greek word for two is dis , and that is where we get di from. Seed which consists of only a single cotyledon are known as monocots. A corn seed is a very good example of a monocot. The seed of a monocot stays in one piece and does not split up. The outer membrane s function is to protect the sensitive parts that are inside the seed from diseases and common damages. Even though all seeds have a seed coat, there is
  • 34. How I Changed My Life Humans are amazing beings. We as humans are capable of doing great things. Unfortunately many people are satisfied with being average, and not accomplishing much in their life. Many people are convinced that they can t be great or can t achieve greatness in their life. However I believe that anyone can change his or her life for the better and obtain a successful and fruitful life. In this essay I am going to talk about how I changed my life from an overweight teen with no ambition to a relatively fit adult with a passion. It all started ever since I was a little boy, about 12 years old. I used to eat a lot of food; you might even say I was addicted to eating. I would eat no matter what. When I was sad I would eat, when I was happy I would eat. Basically my emotional mind state would be dependent on eating food. With that surplus of food, there was something else that made my physical state even worse. I was extremely lazy and unmotivated. I had no ambition; I would just sit around all day playing video games. So you could imagine what happened to me with this huge surplus of food and lack of activity. I was extremely overweight, I weighed 247 lbs.( 40% body fat) at the age of 14. This took a toll on me mentally and physically. For example, anytime that I would go to the mall with my friends, I would suffer a lot. I would see them trying on clothes and buying new clothes, while these clothes would barley fit me. Also many people would make fun of me. Due to my obesity I

In the movie Lord of the Flies , the system of law failed on the island because rules weren t put in place, there were no consequences for misbehaviour and the two leaders, Ralph and Jack, lacked leadership qualities. The first reason the system of law failed on the island was because a set of rules wasn t established. Any system of law requires rules and laws to be able to function properly. For instance, when the young boys realized that they would have to work together to survive in hopes of being rescued, they didn t decide on any rules that they would live by. Without rules, any society could become an anarchy. For instance, rules and laws... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Had they have been good leaders, the system of law would have worked on the island and the boys wouldn t have experienced the deaths of their fellow cadets, Simon and Piggy. Firstly, Ralph was not a good leader because he wasn t strict with the boys and no one feared him. No one took his orders seriously. Due to this, none of the boys really respected his thoughts and ideas and they often were slacking off instead of the jobs that they were supposed to be doing. If Ralph was strict, the boys would have respected him more and they would have done all their duties and maybe Jack might not have separated from Ralph. On the other hand, Jack was not a good leader because he always wanted to do what he wanted and he wanted to have fun. Also, he desires power for selfish reasons and it seems as if he doesn t care for anyone on the island except for himself. In order for the system of law to be successful anywhere in the world, a leader with great leadership qualities needs to be in power, while also caring for his/her citizens. For example, Mahatma Gandhi led India against the rule of the British. He cared for his fellow Indians and was not in the pursue for power. Also, he was respected by others because he had a hard mentality, while also being respected. He believed the truth shall prevail and

This could be because subjects are more comfortable on a treadmill compared to a bike. Three subjects completed the VO2 maxtests back to back days, leaving the subjects feeling sore from the first VO2 max. There are many important limitations of the lactate threshold tests that will be discussed. During the treadmill lactate threshold tests, there was an occasion of errors read on the Lactate Plus. As for intensity, the pressure of using the tool varies based on the condition being treated as well as the patient s tolerance. This assignment of cost helps in recognizing the cost of the longest possible path between a pair of nodes in any spanning treeis nв€’1 (i.e. it passes nв€’1 edges) while the cost of the shortest path between any pair of nodes without using of SPT edges is at least n (i.e. passes one edge). When looking at African American political policies and social status both in their native country and in America, it is important to see where their practices came from. First, when looking at the rich history of Africa, it is necessary to examine the African values. In Africa, their value system consisted of, affiliation, collectivity, sharing, obedience to authority, spirituality, acceptance to fate and past time (Pinderhughes, 1982, p.91). This is the framework the African people knew before coming to the America s via the slave trade. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... African American mothers provide for their children s physical survival and attending to their emotional needs happens, but there is a collective responsibility to look out for other mothers children as well (Collins p. 328). This community based childcare and reliance on others stems from the exploitation of Africans as slaves. No one more could nurture her child and take that up as an occupation; they had to look out for one another at their place of employment. Even when the Emancipation came about and the political role of women changed in America with domestic jobs, the meaning of work and the way women handled family never changed (Collins p. 330). Women taking that interconnectedness and collective responsibility forward also allowed them to be community leaders by default. African American women understood the need to take care of their own children and when they did so they had to emerge in a leadership type role and took it further with being an active voice in the community. All of that considered, those same qualities allowed for a very grass roots type approach to the activism in communities that took place during the Civil Rights Movements. With the cultural aspects in place, looking at the political policies of Africa begin to unravel and make more sense. Aristotle was an observer of nature, and recognized the need for balance in natural systems. He could have reasoned that since humans are products of nature, we too must find a balance with in our environments. This probably led to the idea of a golden mean, or balance between two extremes that humans should strive to achieve. The golden mean is not an exact middle or average in the mathematical sense, but rather a flexible guideline that can vary depending on the situation. In this way, it could be said that courage is the desirable trait that exists between cowardliness and recklessness. However, where courage lies between these two extremes varies from situation to situation, so a baseline cannot be defined to cover every case. For example, risking one s life in battle to save the lives of others would be considered a courageous act, while risking one s life through heavy alcohol or
  • 54. Hydraulic Civilizations and the Philanthropic Industrialists 1. Historical Origins For many planners and historians the origin of ancient cities has been a source of fascination and the cause for much research and debate. One theory developed by the German American historian Karl Wittfogel was that of hydraulic civilizations (Minnery 2010a). Hydraulic civilizations were described as those whose agricultural system was reliant upon significant government directed water systems for irrigation and flood management (EncyclopГ¦dia Britannica 2010). Wittfogel listed that Egypt, India, Mesopotamia, Northern China and pre Columbian Mexico and Peru were examples of hydraulic civilizations (Minnery 2010a). This paper will focus on the theories of the Wittfogel s hydraulic civilization and then try to draw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One other dissimilarity is that of Brisbane s environment. It isn t arid or semi arid in fact it was once lined with sand covered beaches and the water was clear and blue (Our Indooroopilly 2002). Therefore it is difficult to prove that Brisbane has similar qualities to that of a hydraulic civilization and Wittfogel s theories can be left in the past with the Old World . 3. The Philanthropic Industrialist The United Kingdom in the late eighteenth and nineteenth century was home to the bustling and demanding Industrial Revolution. Factories emerged all over the country as technology advanced into an era of mass production. In many of these factories the conditions were unclean, unsafe and ultimately appalling. Some factory owners however, sought out to improve the quality of life for their workers. These few are recognised as the Philanthropic Industrialists . They implemented what has become known as the company town which saw the social and economic qualities of the township under the control of the industrialist (Pollard 1964). This paper will discuss one UK example in the town of New Lanark, in particular the philanthropy of Robert Owen and will examine whether this town and Owen s theories have been influential up until the present day. New Lanark in Scotland was initially founded by David Dale in 1785 (The Open University 2009). The Clyde River which ran along New Lanark s location provided water to power the four
  • 55. Investigating And Writing About The Ashanti People For my research paper, I am going to be investigating and writing about the Ashanti people. The Ashanti people inhabit what is today Ghana, West Africa, with their capital city being Kumasi. I am interested in this subject because I spent four weeks of this summer in Ghana. While I spent most of my time with the Fante people on the coast, we toured Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and I was instantly intrigued by the Ashanticulture. I also personally know an Ashanti that has moved to the United States, which makes me all the more interested to explore how globalization, as defined by Manfred Steger, has shaped her life and culture. The issues that I am going to be investigating in this paper are ones that I have had first hand experience with:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ghana was called The Gold Coast until its independence was gained from the British in the 1900s, due to the abundance of gold. This, along with the eventual slave trade was a catalyst for the arrival of Europeans in the area in 1471. The Ashanti Empire was founded in 1697 by King Osei Tutu I. At its height, the Ashanti Empire was incredibly rich and powerful, larger than modern day Ghana, and even had European advisors. Dress was extravagant, rituals were important, and courts, tax systems, and military organizations were all being employed. Yet, as is the case with many African nations around this time, conflict with Europeans eventually arose. The first conflict between the Ashanti and Europeans was with the British, and it occurred in 1824. The Ashanti emerged victorious with the death of the British governor. During the second conflict with the British, the Ashanti were defeated and Kumasi was captured. The near fall of the Ashanti Empire came in 1896, when the Ashanti were defeated by the British and King Prempeh was exiled to the Seychelles. After this, the Ashanti attempted one last attack on the British fort, spurred on by the disrespect they were being shown by the British governor, but they were ultimately defeated. However, many of the traditions and cultural aspects of the ancient Ashanti s still exist today. Art and language are two ways in which Ashanti culture has been preserved
