A quantitative survey consisting of eight main sections and demographic information was given to
international students at a Western United States land grant university. The survey s eight sections
assessed students level of agreement in the eight following categories: personal life, cultural
concerns, academics, university programs, health care, safety, and the International Students and
Scholars Office (ISS). The questions were evaluated on a standard 5 point Likert type scale. In
addition, open ended responses were elicited for country of origin and religious beliefs to ensure

Chinese Communist Party [CCP] in 1979 as a way of controlling population. Under Mao, the
government encouraged families to have as many children as possible, believing that a strong
nation grew out of a large population. By 1976, the population grew from 540 million people in
1949 to 940 million. The rapid increase in population stretched the resources that the CCP could
provide to the people. The government believed that a population control policy was the only way

medical vision (Gunderman 2). After the discovery of x rays, researchers found that there were
therapeutic and also cancerous results from radiation emissions. Before this discovery became
public, the Radium Watch Company began coating their watch dials with radium in order for
them to glow, to allow owners of these watches see the time, even at night. However, the women
workers, as watch dial painters, at the company would wet there brushes with their mouths to
create a finer point. After months of this practice, many of the women received cancerous tumors
and necrosis of the jaw. As a result, most were buried in lead lined coffins because of the high
emissions of radiation from their bodies. Lead is now used to shield radiation from patients that
are not receiving a full body scan. An x ray is made from a beam of high energy photons passing
through the body which are either diminished or blocked entirely when they hit subatomic particles,
like bone or metal. The denser and thicker the substance the brighter the image on the radiograph.

the movement has to be gentle in contrast to Dulce et Decorum est where the body was flung
into the Wagon. Straight away we are able to see the contrast of how Owen presents physical
death in both poems. Both poems abundantly use imagery in slightly differently ways; Dulce et
Decorum est the imagery is vividly graphic and grotesque done deliberately to make us feel
uncomfortable. The first stanza begins with soldiers trudging through the ubiquitous sludge and
the dual adjective knock kneed shows physical exhaustion and fatigue of the young men that
instantly reverses this idea of them being noble and healthy fighting. Followed by the visceral
imagery the blood come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs . This effectively recreates the
scene Owen witnessed to involve the audience by encouraging them to hear at every jolt the
