Mery Research Paper
It seems that Mery is wearing a long kilt upon which few inscriptions are still preserved. The
inscriptions on the two sides of the seat are better preserved comparing to those of the kilt. Even
though few of the words are missing on the seat s sides but what remains of the inscriptions are of
high quality and deserves a closer examination. The back of the statue is plain with no decoration or
inscriptions on it. The inscriptions mention several deities such as Amun, Hathor, and the Ennead.
The Inscriptions:

Analysis Of The Article City Limits On Racial Equality
Desegregation: 1968 1976
The article City Limits on Racial Equality: The Effects of City Suburb Boundaries on Public School
Desegregation by David R. James(1989), discusses people s perceptions while choosing schools on
the basis of racial mix in students population of school. It is argued that public schools have to apply
methods of desegregation to ensure proper racial mix in schools. White people from affluent families
try to avoid schools that have large populations of black students. Some families that are able to afford
living far from their work, also relocate to ensure that their children are not going to schools that have
high percentages of black students.
Private schools are not generally subject to strict rules for desegregation; rules applied to private
schools for this purpose are not generally implemented properly. On the other hand, public schools are
made to apply stricter rules. It is argued that for proper implementation of desegregation in public
schools, it is important to apply common desegregation programs throughout the whole district
schools. Recognizing these facts, plaintiffs in the 1974 Detroit case argued that Detroit School District
could not be successfully desegregated unless all public schools in the metropolitan area were subject
to a common desegregation order (p.page#). Courts of different districts have also pushed local
governments to apply such rules and standardize the procedure of admissions in schools, in order to
ensure that

The Between The Monster Grendel And The Old Testament
Allusions to the Books Genesis and Wisdom: The interconnection between the monster Grendel and
the Old Testament
Beowulf displays Christian influences in the description of Grendel especially through the allusion to
the Old Testament. Initially, Grendel is presented as a monster that simply kills without any
justification in why he decides to act in such fashion. However, as one alludes to the Old Testament
specifically to the Book Genesis and the Book Wisdom, the reasoning behind Grendel s actions
become clear. Grendel s tendency to kill out purely out of rage, provides a parallel to the biblical story
of Cain and Abel, which explores the preposterousness of Grendel s human aspects. The monster
Grendel, who is heavily influenced by Cain s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The interconnection between Grendel and Cain shows the human side of Grendel, although Grendel s
nature is a monster, he displays human traits of emotion which are exaggerated to the extent of
irrational behavior reinforced through It was no long wait, but the very next night he committed a
greater murder, mourned not at all, for his feuds and sins he was too fixed in them (Beowulf 134 37).
This results in their fates being intertwined in the way they carry their burden of being condemned by
god, reinforced in Grendel s hints of human emotion when He went away wrenched, deprived of joy,
to find his place of death, mankind s foe (Beowulf 1274 75). Ultimately, the biblical story of Cain and
Abel in the Book Genesis explores Grendel s character and motive though the expression of human
emotion as well as the evil nature rooted in the origins of Cain s sin of fratricide.
Grendel, besides the heavy influence of Cain and his sin of fratricide, is also portrayed as a
representative of God s anger towards the Pagans caused by their lack of piety. Neidorf argues that
Grendel s presence after the extinction of the giants caused by the flood links Cain with postdiluvian
monsters, implying God s failed attempt to eliminate the evil that originated from Cain. Neidorf
presents that Grendel alongside other monsters is part of the battle between the evil monsters and God
himself. Scholar, Daniel Anlezark similarly argues God sent mute animals such as Grendel,

Themes Of The Tin Drum
The film The Tin Drum is a German movie made in 1959 based off of the novel written by Gunter
Grass. This story begins with the birth of a interesting boy named Oskar Matzerath who turns out to be
born with full intellect and knowledge of the world around him. With this self understanding, he
decides on his third birthday, after getting a toy tin drum, that he will fall down the stairs to the cellar
in order to make himself never grow again. After this fall that is exactly what happens and through the
film thereafter you see him as a three year child always playing or carrying his toy drum in order to
deal with the traumatic events of his life. When analyzing this film the key recurring theme is the
deaths of Oskar s loved ones which affect him as a person and his decisions to cope.
The first of these is the death of Oskar s mother who tragically dies in Oskars teen years. Her death,
either mentally or physically, seemed to be evident after the scene which displays her complete disgust
in purchasing the eels. You do not get a clear answer for why she decides to only eat raw fish and why
this may be the very cause of her death, but the audience can make a possible inference that she was
also feeling very overwhelmed in her life. The stresses of keeping her second lover, Jan and looming
threat that Nazism being faced against some of her loved ones was too much for her to handle.
Although a greater cause for her stress was that she was now pregnant, as was hinted in the

Technology Troubles:
The Negative Impact on Children s Behavior

Mr.Yarbrough
Technology is everywhere. It has become an important part of our everyday life. It can be used as a
learning tool and also provides many forms of entertainment. It can be fun, but it can also be habit
forming. In today s society, children are using technology more frequently than ever before. Does the
increase in technology have a negative impact on children s behavior?
Technology is used in every part of daily life. In recent decades, electronic devices have become a
common part of the American home. It is common to see children using technology by playing on cell
phones and tablets. Parents may be surprised at how quickly children learn to use technology. A study
done in 2013 by Common Sense Media, showed that seventy two percent of children under the age of
eight have used a mobile device, and 38% of children under two have used one. Another study
completed by Kaiser Foundation in 2010 and published in The Huffington Post, showed that
elementary aged children use on average 7.5 hours per day of entertainment technology, 75 percent of
these children have TV s in their bedrooms, and 50 percent of North American homes have the TV on
all day. Technology is changing how children act and also changing the relationships between parents
and their children. With all

Personal Statement For Making A Personal Ethics Statement
In order to develop a personal ethics statement for Simply Special, I need to discover what it is that I
want to accomplish within this organization. Through the process of discovering those potential
accomplishments, I must be realistic and consider the pros and cons. As I have learned it takes
dedication, determination, and will to reach ethical goals and statements for Simply Special to
succeed. In addition to taking pride for our work, we want to stand behind our productions with
enthusiasm, excellence, and motivation. My Worldview First, viewing the world as it is will
accumulate many thoughts, expressions, and feelings. Establishing a worldview means to provide
personal opinion on various subjects. As I look over the way society operates today, I come to the
conclusion that the world is confused, in crisis, and judgmental among several other things, but at the
same time it is transformable to move forward in a righteous direction. In lighter words, all is not yet
lost. Romans 12:2 (NLT) reads, Don t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God
transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God s
will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. However, my worldview is we, as a people, are
on this Earth for a reason and for a season, our time is limited; therefore instead of pleasing man by
aiming to be like man or of their standards, we should focus on God and becoming closer to Him. God

Negans outlook on life is something that has changed in this show, the first time he appears he is
ruthless and is portrayed to have no feelings, but as season 8 gets going he gets questioned by Father
Gabriel about the lifes he has taken. Negan answers him by saying I haven t killed anybody that hasn t

aware of the things he is doing. One thing I got from the previous quote was that he didn t kill
someone that did didn t need it, I feel like Negan is doing good in his eyes and that he simply is just
trying to protect his people. Although he killed people for wrong reasons at times he still shows
compassion for life that is deserved. In season 8 episode 5 Negan and Father Gabriel are trapped in a

Examples Of Foolishness In King Lear
In Shakespeare s King Lear the relationship between wisdom and foolishness is explored through the
characters Lear and Gloucester. Throughout the play, both characters were foolish based on their
decisions, and after losing everything they had, they came to see how inappropriately they acted.
Through this realization they gained wisdom by taking responsibility for their actions, and by making
amends with those they had let down. In this play, Shakespeare demonstrates how gaining this insight
can be difficult, heartbreaking, and often times one may end up with nothing but a new found wisdom.
The beginning of these characters journey to insight must unfortunately start with foolishness. The
play starts with King Lear asking his 3 daughters how much they love him. Whoever loves him the
most will receive the biggest piece of land that he plans to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Lear asks his youngest daughter, Cordelia the same question, she says, Unhappy that I am, I
cannot heave/ My heart into my mouth: I love your majesty/ According to my bond; no more nor less.
(I.I,90 92), saying that she loves her father as much as a daughter should. Lear, not thinking about the
sincerity of Cordelia s gesture or the genuine words she has spoken, is only offended and enraged that
she did not flatter his ego like her sisters. Lear disowns Cordelia and decides to split his kingdom
between selfish sisters Regan and Goneril. This decision is the snowball that keeps on rolling;
growing into a bigger and bigger mess throughout the story. King Lear was idiotic in not analyzing the
situation. He could not see that Cordelia was the only daughter that truly loved him and that Regan
and Goneril only loved what he had to give them. Lear s second foolish decision was physically
giving his land to Regan and Goneril. Since Lear couldn t see how selfish his daughters were in their
answers, he gave all his land and all his power to them. Lear also had people bring to his

Breastfeeding Is A Controversial Topic Over The Years
The practice of breastfeeding has become a very controversial topic over the years due to the creation
of alternatives to breast milk, increase in working mothers, and other reasons. Much research shows
that due to a variety of cultural, ethical, and economic reasons women should be encouraged to
breastfeed for a specific duration of time, while others believe that this is unnecessary. Based on these
three societal sectors, should women be encouraged to breastfeed? If so, for how long should they
breastfeed? Since the beginning of humans/ mankind breastfeeding has been practiced by mothers.
Stevens and colleagues (2009) tell us the following information (pp. 32 39): Since the beginning of
humans life on Earth, there have always been a number of alternatives used to provide nutrients to
infants. For example, in 2000 BC women fed animal milk to their children. More recently, in the 18th
century many women were encouraged to stay home, breastfeed, and care for their children and
husband (Stevens et al., 2009, 33). Some areas of the world even believed that breast milk provided
the child with wisdom. Then in the 19th century, it was a common idea that women were only
equipped to breastfeed if she had a good diet, exercised, and was mentally fit, but breastfeeding was
highly encouraged. However, European women during this time had wet nurses, or other women that
would breastfeed the child that wasn t biologically theirs (p. 35). People soon began to realize that this

Racial Differences At A Young Age Essay
I became aware of my racial difference at a very young age. I do not remember this but my parents
told me that I only wanted black baby dolls when I was old enough to start talking and asking for
things. I do remember wishing to be the black Barbie doll. I would throw pennies into wishing wells
and make wishes on shooting stars that I would wake up as the black Barbie. It was then that I realized
the difference of my white skin in comparison to my idol that had dark skin. I also went through a
stage before school started where I was obsessed with Asian culture. I only wore kimonos, wore
eyeliner, slept on a futon, pretended to know Chinese and had my whole room decorated in Asian
décor. My uncle told me before I learned to actually speak English and I was babbling that I would
sound like I was speaking in Chinese and that we would sit and have Chinese conversations. My mom
was teaching at a title one elementary school and enrolled me in the head start next door. The majority
of the children that were enrolled were Hispanic. I went from head start to fifth grade with mostly
Hispanic friends and culture and I loved it. The town I went to school in had three elementary schools
and one middle school and one high school. When I started middle school I was separated from many
of my Hispanic friends because they were in English as a second language classes and I was thrown
into a classroom with mostly Caucasian children that I did not grow up with, it was like changing
schools.

Valentine And Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card
Valentine and Ender s Relationship in Ender s Game Relationships are very important to have in life,
as it lets people share their lives with someone they care about. In the book Ender s Game by Orson
Scott Card, Ender Wiggin has a difficult time making friends and connecting with other people. Being

which causes problems in his relationships. In these situations, his sister, Valentine, is the only one
who supports him. Throughout the book he faces many problems, mainly isolation. In these times he
would look up to no one but her sister. Valentine always supports, cares and fights for Ender, and that
s what makes their relationship grow stronger. In the novel, Valentine is a mother to Ender when she
hugs him goodbye, a friend when they reconnect after years apart, and a protector as she shields him
from their malicious brother, Peter. Valentine is first introduced as a loving and caring young woman

Subaltern Studies
The Subaltern in India The ground breaking text Orientalism written by Edward Said widened the
arena for the post colonial thinkers to consider the text with a new mechanism in Third World context.
Orientalism has developed a purported approach of binary opposition to dismantling the East/West
dualism in relation to Eurocentric edifice. The focal point of Said s study is the West and its
observation of the East . The former having all positive traits: white, brave, dynamic, civilized,
cultured, educated, rich of the Empire identifies the Eastern countries as the Other with all the
negative attributes: black, coward, static, barbaric, natural, uneducated poor people of the Colony

The subaltern studies historians in their meticulously researched analyses not only only seek to
identify the modes and mores of domination that makes subalterns subordinate to power but also try to
find out an understanding of people as subjects of their own histories .(Das 1988, p.312) The
persistent hypotheses such as caste, class, gender, system of patriarchy and nation bring to
acknowledge that subalterns consciousness is predominantly governed by physical coercion of the
state(presence) rather than mutual consent of the people (absence) as a result most of the masses of

Use of Prosody in the Selected Poems of Gwendolyn Brooks...
Poetry has a role in society, not only to serve as part of the aesthetics or of the arts. It also gives us a
view of what the society is in the context of when it was written and what the author is trying to
express through words. The words as a tool in poetry may seem ordinary when used in ordinary
circumstance. Yet, these words can hold more emotion and thought, however brief it was presented.
What makes a good poetry? It is not only in the idea or thought of what the author is trying to express.
What makes a good poetry beautiful is in how the writer makes use of the words, lines, and spaces and

Bohemia s War Research Paper
The works of the Europe s monarchs also laid a burden on the population due to massive tax
imposition. According to them, there was increased warfare, and they needed to increase the size of
their armies. The unhappy population became rebellious and held out uprisings in a desperate attempt
to change the great power. The Thirty Years War was happened when Ferdinand II was the king of
Bohemia at 1617, and he was a prince from Austria. Ferdinand was a religious man who attended
every single masses which leads to him going for pilgrimages and endured self abasement. He went
against Protestants in Prague when he decided to close down their churches. These Protestants reacted
by rebelling and, as a result, a religious war broke out between Ferdinand, who was joined by other
monarchs, such as Maximilian and other Protestants who had help from some German princes
(Blackbourn 18). Ferdinand and his allies defeated the Protestant armies between 1618 and 1625.
Therefore, Bohemia became a catholic country, followed by its neighbor, Moravia. The war led to the

Nowhere in the U.S constitution or any other official documents does it say that there must be strict
separation of church and state . This clause was used by Jefferson in his letter to the Danbury Baptist
Association of Connecticut on January 1, 1802 (Truthwalk 1). After being revised six times by one of
our founding fathers, James Madision, the first amendment now states that, Congress shall make no
law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof... (Parsons 40). Did
the fore fathers intend the first amendment to keep religion out of government, or did they want to
create a law that stated religion was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other programs include childcare services, transportation services, job training and employment
services, counseling services, and much more (Bush, George. W.). President Bush feels that the Faith
based programs, those that are already having success in helping those in need individuals, will be
able to do even more if given aid by the federal government. These organizations are also thought to
have much more of a personal, local type of therapy that people will want to attend to get help. In a
quote by President Bush, he explains his goals for the faith based initiative: The indispensable and
transforming work of faith based and other charitable service groups must be encouraged.
Government cannot be replaced by charities, but it can and should welcome them as partners. We must
heed the growing consensus across America that successful government social programs work in
fruitful partnership with community serving and faith based organizations. President George W. Bush
(White House Community and Faith Based Initiative).
The most obvious form of government aid to the faith based programs is the use of direct grants of
public funds (Pfeffer 163). The money however is not just handed over to these faith based charitable
organizations. These faith based organizations must apply for the

Ignorance In The Bicycle Thieves
Humans have the tendency to romanticize many aspects of our society, be it wars, relationships, or
histories. However with this romanticism, comes ignorance, of most negative aspects of truth and
reality. This nostalgic ignorance and apathy towards those negatively affected by generally
romanticized events is the central theme of Vittorio de Sica s neorealist work The Bicycle Thieves.
This argument is created by accurate incidental music, stark contrast in shots, and fluid, human camera
tracking throughout the film.
Every background and still of The Bicycle Thieves tells its own story, via the mise en scen technique.
One of the first scenes is the pawn store scene, where Maria turns their bedsheets in order to redeem
Antonio s bike, a necessity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This realism is based in both the very human nature of the acting, as expressed in Charles Burnett s
essay Ode to the Common Man, as well as in the fluid camera movements of the film. This humanist
camera movement is best exemplified by the scene where Antonio believes Bruno to have jumped into
the river, after Antonio slapped him. The camera follows Antonio, creating an effect of truly being
there, further enhancing the realism, and therefore the thematic material as the two were linked. The
human nature is further revealed within the acting of the film, an observation made in Burnett s essay.
Her [Maria] look of disappointment is powerfully affecting. I [Burnett] often wonder if that was de
Scia or her. (Burnett). This argument is a direct proof at the argument, as the disappointment expressed
at the denial by the richer store operator, directly paralleling the apathy, if distaste of the rich towards
the society s poor. This connection however, would be completely lost if not for the inherently human
and personal performances by the

Resilience In Hiroshima
There are many solutions to help make our community better by learning from what has happened in
the past. Through resilience we learn from our past to grow our communities in the spirit of a hopeful
future by being courageous and humble. War is a hard situation to deal with, homes get ruined, people
get killed etc.. But in order to grow we have to go through difficult paths. In Hiroshima written by
John Hersey one of the characters Mrs. Nakamura she was a very courageous women, she woke up
her kids really early in the morning got them ready and took them to a safe place, later on that day she
went back to her messed up house and got things for her helpless neighbors during the atomic bomb.

Home To Harlem Analysis
In his analysis of Claude McKay s Home to Harlem, Shane Vogel refers to the text as a piece of
literature which is invested in affective mimesis. Essentially, the text is interested in the reproduction
of feelings and senses. The success of the text is based on the audience s ability to feel what McKay
wants them to feel. Of course, this method has its limits. How will a non black audience capable of
absorbing the material presented exactly as McKay means for it to be interpreted? The answer to that
question, of course, is that this text was not produced for consumption by white audiences. This has
been established by McKay s response to W.E.B. Du Bois s criticisms of Home to Harlem, where it is
staunchly established that McKay s portrayal of African American individuals is for African
Americans themselves the text portrays a series of experiences which can only be understood by an in
group, and that is that. Thus, McKay s affective mimesis, or the elliptical sensorium of pleasure he
produces, aims not to depict Harlem as a spectacle, but as a place in which his audience already knows
and already exists in. Ultimately, the story of Home to Harlem exemplifies a never ending series of
knowing and unknowing one s surroundings and one s home. This is reinforced by the novel s looping
plot structure. McKay s formulation of the text does not give us an interpretation of diaspora, then it
aims to reproduce the feeling of diaspora in our hearts. First, let us consider how the structure of the
novel s plot reinforces the dual complexity of identity and remembrance. Home to Harlem is a text
defined by its astounding structural redundancy. Regardless of one s place in the novel, it can be
assumed that similar events are going to unfold there will be a mention of clubs or alcohol, dancing
will be involved, and Jake will surely sigh about how he has lost his sweet brown. In instances where
Jake and his companions aren t in Harlem, Jake laments for a return to what he considers home. Thus,
aside from certain moments, such as when Jake finally finds Felice, the formulaic structure of Home
to Harlem seems doomed to repeat itself for eternity. It is during this aforementioned reunion when the
audience begins to

A Study On Conventional Imaging
Conventional Imaging Upon presenting symptoms of abdominal pain or back pain, a common
symptom of pancreatic adenocarcinoma, an abdominal x ray or lumbar x ray to may be performed.
This exam would be performed as a preliminary image to rule out what is causing the pain; but it is
not a preferred modality for diagnostic purposes. The radiographic appearance of the pancreas may
show calcifications, which can be a symptom of chronic pancreatitis but not necessarily
adenocarcinoma (T. Williams, personal communication, October 14, 2015).
Transabdominal Ultrasound
Initially when a patient presents with jaundice or abdominal pain, an ultrasound is frequently
considered the first line diagnostic tool. The ultrasound provides a non ionizing imaging of the
pancreas and can typically show if dilation of the pancreatic duct and/or dilation of the common bile
duct is present, also known as the double duct sign (E. Lee J. Lee, 2014). The two most common
causes of a radiographic appearance of the double duct sign is carcinoma of the head of the pancreas
and carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater (Goel, 2015). The ability to visualize this sign provides answers
as to why the jaundice and abdominal pain is present and calls for further investigation to potentially
diagnose the patient with pancreatic adenocarcinoma (E. Lee J. Lee, 2014). US may also show a
hypoechoic mass with irregular margins that can be typically appreciated as pancreatic
adenocarcinoma (E. Lee J. Lee, 2014; Pietryga

Cosmetics And Its Impact On The Makeup Industry
Purchasing the most expensive and popular cosmetic brand might seem as the best option to protect
oneself from imperfections but, is the product s price determined by popularity or safety regulations?
Cosmetics have transformed the industries to make themselves an essential part of consumer s daily
routine. Cosmetics were first used by tribes as a form of camouflage to disguise themselves from
enemies and predators. Mud, ashes and natural dyes, were used to hide themselves from predators and
to create a sense of fear in the pray (Goering). During the Renaissance period, cosmetics lost its
demand as a protection tool and innovating in the makeup industry. Women began making their own
instructions on how to produce products based on households items such as oatmeals, charcoal and
berries. Soon they adapted a system that allowed them to make more of the same products and then
create profits by selling them as a package product (Goering). Currently in the Twenty First Century
beauty products are considered essential in women s life as a key to their physical transformation.
From morning makeup routine to late time dinners, women tend to use on average at least ten to
fifteen products a day (Averett). Cosmetics have expanded from raw materials used for camouflage to
a crucial necessity to in order achieve an emotional realization through the physical appearance.
Although cosmetics have helped enhance the natural appearance, due to the manufacturing of the toxic

An Experiment On Social Media

regret it, right? Typically most people would be up to the idea and the sign up sheets would fill up
quick, even though there is a slight catch. The participant cannot be in contact with anyone they know,
which includes using social media. In hindsight, signing up for this experiment seemed like the perfect
opportunity to be alone and spend money on things like a movie ticket and popcorn, cute clothes, and
maybe even starbucks; however, I was sadly very wrong. The experiment started on February 14th and
I was excited to roam around Phoenix and spend money for the sake of psychological science. When
the researchers of different genders came to pick me up from my house I noticed that they had unique
name tags, instead of saying their names the name tags said researcher one and researcher two .
Mrs. Nyx? said researcher two as the female researcher detached her pen from her clipboard and
clicked the black ball point pen.
Yes, I replied while I stepped out of my house and lock the front door behind me. Both of the
researchers nodded and turned to walk towards their car while I followed behind. The male researcher

A Promising Treatment Modality For Cancer
Immunotherapy is a promising treatment modality for cancer as it can promote specific and durable
anti cancer responses. Systemic adoptive cell therapy (ACT) is an emerging form of cancer
immunotherapy showing tremendous potential in clinical studies aimed at treating solid cancers. The
success of promising anti cancer adoptive cell therapies relies on the abilities of the perfused CD8+ T
lymphocytes to gain access to and persist within the tumor microenvironment to carry out their
cytotoxic functions. The success of cancer adoptive cell therapies depends on the expansion of tumor

Hypotheses:
The implantation of 3D T cell cultures will provide a means for conveyance of a continuous feed of
these cells towards the reduction of tumor burden or of tumor reoccurrence near the site of tumor
resection. To that end, the molecular architecture of the scaffold must permit the expansion and release
of functional T cells whose activation state can be affected by the surrounding conditions, allowing
activating and chemo attractant signatures from the tumor microenvironment to accelerate the
proliferation, escape, and immunogenicity of the encapsulated cells. It must also allow its precise,
local administration in a minimally invasive way (through catheter or needle), its jellifying ahead of
its dispersion, and must provide it with the ability to withstand in vivo stress and degradation for the
duration of treatment.
Aim:
The aim of this research is to develop a new method for local injection of concentrated, three
dimensional (3D) TIL (tumor infiltrating lymphocytes) cultures into the tumor microenvironment akin
to adjuvant postoperative radiation therapy currently applied to cavities formed from tumor resection
in cases of advanced tumor stage and margin positivity, and also with the intent to mimic naturally
occurring tertiary lymphoid structures associated to positive patient prognosis.

problems, an increase in one s tolerance for alcohol, memory lapses or blackouts while drinking, and

Most likely, a combination of biological, psychological, and cultural factors contribute to the
development of alcoholism in any individual.
Alcoholism often seems to run in families. Although there is no conclusive indication of the alcoholic
family member is associated, studies show that 50 to
80 percent of all alcoholics have had a close alcoholic relative. Some researchers believe that one
inherits an addiction for alcohol. Studies on animals and twins seem to support this theory. One study
suggests that a susceptibility to alcoholism may be linked to a gene on chromosome eleven.
Alcoholism may also be related to emotional problems. For example, alcoholism is sometimes
associated with a family history of maniac depression.
Some alcoholics have used alcohol medicate a depressive disorder. Alcoholics commonly drown their

resources thus, bringing more content to the game without charging unwilling players for it. Massive

  • 3. Analysis Of The Article City Limits On Racial Equality Desegregation: 1968 1976 The article City Limits on Racial Equality: The Effects of City Suburb Boundaries on Public School Desegregation by David R. James(1989), discusses people s perceptions while choosing schools on the basis of racial mix in students population of school. It is argued that public schools have to apply methods of desegregation to ensure proper racial mix in schools. White people from affluent families try to avoid schools that have large populations of black students. Some families that are able to afford living far from their work, also relocate to ensure that their children are not going to schools that have high percentages of black students. Private schools are not generally subject to strict rules for desegregation; rules applied to private schools for this purpose are not generally implemented properly. On the other hand, public schools are made to apply stricter rules. It is argued that for proper implementation of desegregation in public schools, it is important to apply common desegregation programs throughout the whole district schools. Recognizing these facts, plaintiffs in the 1974 Detroit case argued that Detroit School District could not be successfully desegregated unless all public schools in the metropolitan area were subject to a common desegregation order (p.page#). Courts of different districts have also pushed local governments to apply such rules and standardize the procedure of admissions in schools, in order to ensure that ... The Between The Monster Grendel And The Old Testament Allusions to the Books Genesis and Wisdom: The interconnection between the monster Grendel and the Old Testament Beowulf displays Christian influences in the description of Grendel especially through the allusion to the Old Testament. Initially, Grendel is presented as a monster that simply kills without any justification in why he decides to act in such fashion. However, as one alludes to the Old Testament specifically to the Book Genesis and the Book Wisdom, the reasoning behind Grendel s actions become clear. Grendel s tendency to kill out purely out of rage, provides a parallel to the biblical story of Cain and Abel, which explores the preposterousness of Grendel s human aspects. This results in their fates being intertwined in the way they carry their burden of being condemned by god, reinforced in Grendel s hints of human emotion when He went away wrenched, deprived of joy, to find his place of death, mankind s foe (Beowulf 1274 75). Ultimately, the biblical story of Cain and Abel in the Book Genesis explores Grendel s character and motive though the expression of human emotion as well as the evil nature rooted in the origins of Cain s sin of fratricide. Grendel, besides the heavy influence of Cain and his sin of fratricide, is also portrayed as a representative of God s anger towards the Pagans caused by their lack of piety. Neidorf argues that Grendel s presence after the extinction of the giants caused by the flood links Cain with postdiluvian monsters, implying God s failed attempt to eliminate the evil that originated from Cain. Neidorf presents that Grendel alongside other monsters is part of the battle between the evil monsters and God himself. • 5. Themes Of The Tin Drum The film The Tin Drum is a German movie made in 1959 based off of the novel written by Gunter Grass. This story begins with the birth of a interesting boy named Oskar Matzerath who turns out to be born with full intellect and knowledge of the world around him. With this self understanding, he decides on his third birthday, after getting a toy tin drum, that he will fall down the stairs to the cellar in order to make himself never grow again. After this fall that is exactly what happens and through the film thereafter you see him as a three year child always playing or carrying his toy drum in order to deal with the traumatic events of his life. When analyzing this film the key recurring theme is the deaths of Oskar s loved ones which affect him as a person and his decisions to cope. The first of these is the death of Oskar s mother who tragically dies in Oskars teen years. Her death, either mentally or physically, seemed to be evident after the scene which displays her complete disgust in purchasing the eels. You do not get a clear answer for why she decides to only eat raw fish and why this may be the very cause of her death, but the audience can make a possible inference that she was also feeling very overwhelmed in her life. The stresses of keeping her second lover, Jan and looming threat that Nazism being faced against some of her loved ones was too much for her to handle. Although a greater cause for her stress was that she was now pregnant, as was hinted in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Examples Of Foolishness In King Lear In Shakespeare s King Lear the relationship between wisdom and foolishness is explored through the characters Lear and Gloucester. Throughout the play, both characters were foolish based on their decisions, and after losing everything they had, they came to see how inappropriately they acted. Through this realization they gained wisdom by taking responsibility for their actions, and by making amends with those they had let down. In this play, Shakespeare demonstrates how gaining this insight can be difficult, heartbreaking, and often times one may end up with nothing but a new found wisdom. The beginning of these characters journey to insight must unfortunately start with foolishness. The play starts with King Lear asking his 3 daughters how much they love him. Breastfeeding Is A Controversial Topic Over The Years The practice of breastfeeding has become a very controversial topic over the years due to the creation of alternatives to breast milk, increase in working mothers, and other reasons. Much research shows that due to a variety of cultural, ethical, and economic reasons women should be encouraged to breastfeed for a specific duration of time, while others believe that this is unnecessary. Based on these three societal sectors, should women be encouraged to breastfeed? If so, for how long should they breastfeed? Since the beginning of humans/ mankind breastfeeding has been practiced by mothers. Stevens and colleagues (2009) tell us the following information (pp. 32 39): Since the beginning of humans life on Earth, there have always been a number of alternatives used to provide nutrients to infants. For example, in 2000 BC women fed animal milk to their children. More recently, in the 18th century many women were encouraged to stay home, breastfeed, and care for their children and husband (Stevens et al., 2009, 33). Some areas of the world even believed that breast milk provided the child with wisdom. Then in the 19th century, it was a common idea that women were only equipped to breastfeed if she had a good diet, exercised, and was mentally fit, but breastfeeding was highly encouraged. However, European women during this time had wet nurses, or other women that would breastfeed the child that wasn t biologically theirs (p. 35). People soon began to realize that this was a ... However with this romanticism, comes ignorance, of most negative aspects of truth and reality. This nostalgic ignorance and apathy towards those negatively affected by generally romanticized events is the central theme of Vittorio de Sica s neorealist work The Bicycle Thieves. This argument is created by accurate incidental music, stark contrast in shots, and fluid, human camera tracking throughout the film. • 25. Home To Harlem Analysis In his analysis of Claude McKay s Home to Harlem, Shane Vogel refers to the text as a piece of literature which is invested in affective mimesis. Essentially, the text is interested in the reproduction of feelings and senses. The success of the text is based on the audience s ability to feel what McKay wants them to feel. Of course, this method has its limits. How will a non black audience capable of absorbing the material presented exactly as McKay means for it to be interpreted? The answer to that question, of course, is that this text was not produced for consumption by white audiences. This has been established by McKay s response to W.E.B. Du Bois s criticisms of Home to Harlem, where it is staunchly established that McKay s portrayal of African American individuals is for African Americans themselves the text portrays a series of experiences which can only be understood by an in group, and that is that. Thus, McKay s affective mimesis, or the elliptical sensorium of pleasure he produces, aims not to depict Harlem as a spectacle, but as a place in which his audience already knows and already exists in. Ultimately, the story of Home to Harlem exemplifies a never ending series of knowing and unknowing one s surroundings and one s home. This is reinforced by the novel s looping plot structure. McKay s formulation of the text does not give us an interpretation of diaspora, then it aims to reproduce the feeling of diaspora in our hearts. First, let us consider how the structure of the novel s plot reinforces the dual complexity of identity and remembrance. Home to Harlem is a text defined by its astounding structural redundancy. Regardless of one s place in the novel, it can be assumed that similar events are going to unfold there will be a mention of clubs or alcohol, dancing will be involved, and Jake will surely sigh about how he has lost his sweet brown. In instances where Jake and his companions aren t in Harlem, Jake laments for a return to what he considers home. Thus, aside from certain moments, such as when Jake finally finds Felice, the formulaic structure of Home to Harlem seems doomed to repeat itself for eternity. A Study On Conventional Imaging Conventional Imaging Upon presenting symptoms of abdominal pain or back pain, a common symptom of pancreatic adenocarcinoma, an abdominal x ray or lumbar x ray to may be performed. This exam would be performed as a preliminary image to rule out what is causing the pain; but it is not a preferred modality for diagnostic purposes. The radiographic appearance of the pancreas may show calcifications, which can be a symptom of chronic pancreatitis but not necessarily adenocarcinoma (T. Williams, personal communication, October 14, 2015). Transabdominal Ultrasound Initially when a patient presents with jaundice or abdominal pain, an ultrasound is frequently considered the first line diagnostic tool. The ultrasound provides a non ionizing imaging of the pancreas and can typically show if dilation of the pancreatic duct and/or dilation of the common bile duct is present, also known as the double duct sign (E. Lee J. Lee, 2014). The two most common causes of a radiographic appearance of the double duct sign is carcinoma of the head of the pancreas and carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater (Goel, 2015). The ability to visualize this sign provides answers as to why the jaundice and abdominal pain is present and calls for further investigation to potentially diagnose the patient with pancreatic adenocarcinoma (E. Lee J. Lee, 2014). US may also show a hypoechoic mass with irregular margins that can be typically appreciated as pancreatic adenocarcinoma (E. Lee J. Lee, 2014; Pietryga ...
