The Contagious Fungal Infection Of Athlete s Foot
Athlete s foot is a contagious fungal infection that people get on their feet. The scientific name is
tinea pedis. It is usually found between toes, but it can spread. This infection is caused by fungi that
prefer humid environments such as trichophyton mentagrophytes and trichophyton rubrum. People
can get athlete s footby sweating, wearing covered shoes for prolonged periods of time, and by
walking barefoot in wet areas. Symptoms of athlete s foot may include patches of cracked skin that
are itchy and/or sore. Another symptom is flaking white soggy skin. It is possible for the infection
to spread onto the soles of the feets, the sides, and the toenails. When the infection begins to affect
the toenails, they will thicken, yellow, and become

How Are Athenian Slaves Treated
First off, let take a look at the slavery in Athens. It would be indecent for me to say that these
slaves had an easy life because slavery is simply cruel and inhumane. However, Athenian slaves
were the least ill treated. There were two types of Athenian slaves; privately owned and state
owned. For privately owned slaves, depending on the master, the slave either had domestic
responsibilities or was a tutor and caretaker of the master s children. Slaves purchased by the
master of the household were received into the household community with a ceremony, attended
family ceremonies, adopted the family s religion and were buried in the family graveyard
(Bowman, 2007, p34). We can say that Athenian slaves were very well integrated into their master
s family, it even seems like they were treated pretty similarly to their owner s children.... Show more

State owned slaves had the ability to work in certain higher positioned jobs such as secretaries,
bankers, and law enforcement (Bowman, 2007, p34). They were also paid with small allowances
or with clothing. State slaves had the right to marry and own property while private slaves could
not properly marry, but if the master permitted, they were allowed to live with their partners.
However, any children they made belonged to the

Essay about Civil War
Civil War
During the American Civil War, which lasted from 1861 1865, over 620,000 accounted soldiers
were killed. Known as the quot;the first modern war quot;, historians generally agree that the
reason for this was because this was a time of transition for the military. Armies and Navies were
still using tactics where they would gather large forces of firepower to bear on the enemy. At the
same time, weapons were being developed which were accurate and lethal well beyond any arms of
the earlier conflicts. As a result of these two conditions many more casualties were sustained. Add
to that the lack of medical knowledge of disease and infection and the numbers truly began to
grow. This paper is an overviewof the types of weaponry that ... Show more content on

Fuses could be either timed so the round would explode after a certain number of seconds had
elapsed, or were percussion so the ammunition would explode upon striking an object. Shells were
generally used as long range rounds, meant to explode among an advancing enemy or used to blow
apart enemy forts.
Solid shot was a kinetic energy round. Its speed and mass were used to penetrate walls, fort and
armor. To produce any type of casualty effect, the round would have to actually strike the target.
Solid shot was particularly used against ironclad ships where a shell would do little or no damage.
During one test an 8 inch Brooke rifle with 16 pounds of powder fired a 140 pound ball 260 yards
and penetrated eight inches of iron backed by 18 inches of solid wood.
While there are many accounts of troops charging bravely into a quot;hail of grape quot; there is
little fact in this. Grape shot was used very little on the land battlefield during the Civil War. The
ammunition encountered by the soldiers was called canister, one of the war amp;#8217;s most
deadliest rounds. Canister was basically a tin packed with sawdust and musket balls which, when
fired, spread out and turned the artillery piece into a giant shotgun. At close range against masses
infantry this round was devastating, cutting huge swaths through the

Ashmore v. J.P. Thayer Co.
Citation
Ashmore v. J. P. Thayer Co., 303 F. Supp. 2d 1359 (M.D. Ga. 2004).
Statement of Facts
Marcus Ashmore and Terrell Lee Green were maintenance workers for J.P. Thayer Co., Inc. under
supervisor Gene Fye. After a particular incident of harassment on January 16, 2001, Plaintiffs
reported Fye to Tricia Johnson, the Assistant Property Manager. At this time, Johnson did nothing
about the complaint. The harassment continued, and on January 26, Plaintiffs complained to the
Property Manager, Mary Frances de Rivera. In response, de Rivera verbally reprimanded Fye.
This, however, did not stop Fye s harassment. Instead of reporting the behavior to Defendant,
Plaintiffs hired an attorney who wrote a letter to Defendant saying that Ashmore and Green were
going to file charges of discrimination with the EEOC. On February 22, Fye was fired by
Defendant. This came three days after getting the letter and about a month after the initial
harassment complaints.
Procedural History
The Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit at the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.
The verdict of the jury found the Defendant liable and was in favor of the Plaintiffs. Defendant
then filed a motion for a new trial for judgment as a matter of law.
Issue Presented
Should J. P. Thayer Co., Inc. be held liable for the harassment of supervisor, Gene Fye.
Court s Holding:

Elements Of Fiction In Kate Chopin s Short Stories
When writing a narrative, authors may be consistent with certain components in their composition.
Authors seem to carry out corresponding elements of fiction or themes throughout their works and
this can be revealed through analyzing them. The elements of fiction are plot, setting, character,
symbol, and point of view. These factors aid in constructing the overall theme of a story. In the
short stories The Story of an Hour and The Storm , both written by Kate Chopin, it is axiomatic that
Chopin deliberately constructs similarities and differences in her stories elements of fictionand
themes, which sets the stage for the narratives overall tone. To illustrate a difference in an element
of fiction, we commence with plot. We can conclude that Chopin has numerous techniques to
implement her notions and effectively carry out disparate plots by comparing her two short
stories. In The Story of an Hour by Chopin, the main character, Louise Mallard, died of heart
disease at the end of the story (Chopin 181). What this melancholy ending does for this story is
create a tone of dreariness. In spite of this method, in The Storm by Chopin, at the end of this
fearsome storm, everyone was happy (Chopin 123). Chopin s approach to ending this story was
unlike her approach to ending The Story of an Hour. The pleasing ending of The Storm creates a
fulfilled, content tone for the story. Demonstrating that two stories transcribed by the same author
end in two utterly divergent

Customer Service and Marketing at MM
5 pages single spaced 12pt font
Who are MM s target customers? Are all segments equally attractive to MM? If yes, why? If not,
why not? How do the different segments needs and expectations evolve over time?
The goal is to increase the overall market share and profits of MM s Motors in the current market
environment by targeting appropriate customer segments and proper allocation of marketing
resources. Our initial strategy was to concentrate on segment A because of the following reasons:
1. MM possesses a competitive position in this segment in terms of quality product offering and
close customer relationships through high level of customer support.

Short term goal: Acquire high market share in primary market segments.
2. Long term goals: Attain consistently high profit margins and maintain market share.
To achieve these objectives with a limited budget, MM s marketing strategy had to centre on
value provision. Building on MM s original strengths, we saw the opportunity to delight
customers with superior power to size ratio. We identified Segments A and C as our primary and
secondary target segments, as their needs fell within the optimal zone where our product
positioning could provide a difference. With the need to reverse declining market share and boost
customer satisfaction, aggressive investment in MM s R D was necessary to build a strong and
positive brand name for our power efficient motors and manage internal costs. This allowed us to
price our motors to create value for customers while extracting value for our business. Enhanced

communicating MM motors value to customers, and formed the key differentiators in managing

Socialization Techniques Of African American Male Within...
Abstract
Socialization techniques of African Americans, in particular black males in the criminal justice
system are vastly dissimilar in comparison to their white counterparts. The dominant socialization
indifference is theoretically associated with Marxist Criminology schools of thought, in particular
conflict theory. Qualitative, empirical, and historical data supports Marxist criminology based on
capitalism, conflict, and the disparity treatment of the Afro American male within the criminal
justice system: police, courts, and corrections. This research will address how capitalism creates a
caste system that perpetuates conflict. Furthermore, this research will briefly explore the
correlation of American capitalism, slavery, Jim Crow, and the new Negro coined criminal; and the
Marx school of thought as it pertains to African Americanmales interaction within the American
criminal justice system and the hidden agenda of its capitalistic government.
Keywords: crime, ethnic racial socialization, policing techniques, race, racial discrimination
Introduction
The socialization techniques of African American males in the American criminal justice system
are vastly disproportionate in comparison to their white counter parts. Economics and power play
a vital role in this epidemic. This is best associated with Karl Marx s philosophy of Marxist
Criminology. (Marx) Early Marxist criminologist, William Bonger(1905), associated misuse and

Should Colleges Be Free
Should colleges be free for everyone to earn up to an AA degree? Some people believe that college
is expensive and college should be free. On the contrary, others believe that the higher education is
worth the money. Most people believe that college should be free because not all people can pay
the price to go to college. Even though some people believe that everyone can pay for college.
The truth is that colleges should be free for all to earn up to an AA degree because there could
be more chances for people to get jobs and a better future. On the condition that most jobs require

Epic Theatre Essay
Acting unit
September December 2016
Edmund Richmond price
Introduction
Within this final log I shall explain the two contrasting styles of theatre that were covered within
the lesson i.e. naturalism and physical theatre, include examples of exercises that were covered in
the lessons with examples of my notes and follow up with a conclusion and evaluation.
Attributes of Brechtian epic theatre
Firstly when watching a Brechtian piece the most apparent is that there is no offstage. When a
character no longer needs to be relevant the actor must instead simply blend into the background
an example of this in a production of the threepenny opera is that a beggar after talking to Mr
Peacham the beggar picks up a broom, the scene changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Most physical theatre is devised in origin (the script is formed during a rehearsal), makes use of
music, dance and visual artistry as well as theatre.
The main aim of physical theatre is to challenge the proscenium arch thus breaking the 4th wall and
encourage the audience to participate so as to include the audience in the action with the end goal of
catharsis i.e. the 2 way transferal of emotion between audience and actor/actress
Modern physical theatre has been influenced most of all by mime and contemporary dance.
Physical theatre was started when a student by the name of jean louis barrault who rejected the
notion that mime should be silent, in doing so opening up many new possibilities and thus physical
theatre was born.
Simplistically physical theatre is a style of theatre that focuses more on movement than dialogue
that puts the human body at the centre of the process of storytelling e.g. if there is a building or
monument the actors will become that building or monument, physical theatre tends to also divide
into 2 subgenres, either minimalism in which the set is rather basic and is more heavily reliant on
the actors, or baroque in which there is much lighting, special effects and high intensity drama.

The Unbreakable Bond In American Horse By Louise Erdrich
The Unbreakable Bond
When families are torn apart, the pain can be devastating and last a lifetime. When a child is
removed from a home, they can t always comprehend why they were taken away. A child may
think they did something wrong. They may not realize that it is for their own good. In this case,
Buddy wants to stay with his mother, even though their living conditions are rudimentary. Louise
Erdrich s short story, American Horse, shows how a bond between a mother and her child can be
present in less than ideal circumstances.В° This is shown when Buddy hugs Albertine like a gorilla,
when he feels the satin roses, and the emergency chocolate bar.*
Buddy s relationship with his mother seems very strong. Buddy clearly loves his mother in many
ways. Erdrich explains that when Buddy tries to hug Albertine, she told him to stop hugging her
like a gorilla (17). Often, when children hug their parents, a special connection is made that can last
a lifetime. Sometimes when Buddy hugs his mother he would envision her saying, Let s get
married (17). Young children have a special bond with their parents and it isn t uncommon for a
child to want to marry one of them. That is part of the imagination of a young child. Also, a child s
imagination can have a deeper darker side. Erdrich displays that Buddy would have times when he
wished that she [Albertine] would die (17). Buddy hates himself for thinking those thoughts
knowing that someday his wish could come true. He embraces

Comparing Art And The Baroque Eras
Comparing Art of the Renaissance and the Baroque Eras
The Renaissance and the Baroque eras created some of the most famous works of art produced in
the world. The two eras expressed differences in style and theme, but they also have many
characteristics in common. To better understand the similarities of the eras it will be described by
the characteristics, styles and the influences of each; Renaissance and Baroque works of art.
Famous artist from the Renaissance era were Leonard da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti.
Famous artist from the Baroque era were Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn and Michelangelo
Merisi o Amerighi da Caravaggio.
The Renaissance History
The Renaissance era began in Italy, spread to the rest of Europe and lasted from the 14th to the 17th
century. It was defined as a period of cultural history that represented a break from the Middle Ages
and an understanding of humanity ( Italian Renaissance , 2014). The Renaissance began at the end
of the black plaque. For the survivors there were opportunities and these opportunities brought about
the artistic breakthroughs. It became the era of rebirth for society; learning and culture. The era
was influenced by conflict between the Catholics and the Protestants, during this time, society
explored religious options other than the Roman Catholic Church, they explored new beliefs; the
power of the Church had decreased.
At first, the subject matter was about religion, saints, Christ, the love of life and beauty

religious backgrounds all make up the art form of the dance of los Matachines. The traditional
dance drama of los Matachines is danced by both men and women of all ages. Essentially, every

Friends And Such Good Friends Judith Viorst
In the reading, Friends, Good Friends and Such Good Friends, Judith Viorst illustrated that
friends are ranked based on their usefulness, closeness and truthfulness. I agree with the writer as
the usefulness of friends can determine their level of significance in one s life. Firstly, a friend
who has the capability to provide the help required for another would be perceived as more
noteworthy. For instance, imagine if Bill Gates offered to be your pal and forked out ten million
dollars to clear your colossal debts, would he not be immediately shot up to the top of your
friends list? Secondly, the level of closeness is crucial in shaping the rating of a friend. One would

Hume s Problem Of Induction Essay
Hume provided an integral philosophical question analyzing the problems of causality and of
induction. Following Hume s claims, Kant offered his attempt to solve Hume s problem (or,
more broadly, the problems that empiricism faced). By carefully explaining what the problem is
that Kant is attempting to solve, then explaining vigilantly how Kant tries to solve it. Thus
leading to a concluding critical examination to Kant s solution, indicating whether it s successful
and why or why not that s so. Hume asserts that there is no form of good reasoning that leads to
the conclusion that the future will resemble the past, or that similar causes will lead to similar
effects. Hume dedicated his philosophical work trying to uncover the problem of induction, and
his skepticism of causality. Hume s claims stem from separating two asserts of knowledge as
relations of ideas priori, meaning that they are certain and it is impossible to imagine them to be

Nuclear Bomb Causes And Effects Essay
After the defeat of Germany, all the Allied powers turned against Japan hoping Japan would
surrender. As a result, the United States developed the nuclear bomb thinking this would bring
the end of the WW II. The cause of the development and dropping of the bombs was for the
immediate and unconditional surrender of the Japanese Empire. The dropping of the nuclear
bombs caused a lot of deaths and loss of territory. Witch made people homeless and even children
without family. At first, a negotiation was made to the Japanese Empire them to surrender. Yet the
Japanese Empire would not surrender or accept the negotiation. The Japanese Empire was a
warrior type of county that did not believe in surrender. They believed in fighting till they are

Both bombs were dropped in Japan the year of 1945 in August. Little Boy was dropped in
Hiroshima causing a rate of approximate 70,000 Japanese citizens were vaporized. Three days
later, Fat Man was dropped in Nagasaki causing a rate of approximately 80,000 Japanese citizens
killed. Years later, 100,000 people died from burns and radiation that was caused from the
bombs. The dropping of both bomb caused an estimate of 220,000 total citizens dead. Mostly
women and children were assassinated in these two fatal days. On August 14, 1945 Japan
surrendered unconditionally because of all the lives lost during the bombing. On these two days,
Japan lost more lives than in the entire World War II. There were many reasons why the atomic
bombs were dropped. One of the reasons was because Truman was under pressure by several
sources to make a decision. One of those sources was his military advisors. Who wanted to plan an
invasion but it would cost more money than just dropping the bombs. So Truman sticked with the
plan of using the atomic

A Large Right Whale On Tohunga Beach
A large right whale was stranded on Tohunga Beach. Efforts to save it by volunteers from Project
Jonah were unsuccessful. The Tohunga Council wanted to get rid of the corpse as it was starting
to smell and the tourist season was approaching. Preliminary investigations proved that towing the
whale out to sea was impractical, given its size and weight. After some discussion the council
decided to blow it up with explosives and rely on the tide to remove the pieces of whale.
Enola Gay was contracted by the Council to do the job. Enola obtained all the necessary clearances
required under the Resource Management Act and the consent of the Department of Conservation.

My Childhood Experience
Everybody has grown up differently. Everybody has different stories, different memories, and
different hardships that have shaped who they are as a person. When most people think of their
childhood they think of family night board games. They think of running off to the park with their
best friends, laughing on swingsets and hopping scotch until they were out of breath. They have
memories of vacations, funny stories at familygatherings, or that one time they fell of their bike
and their dad carried them home and put on a bandaid and made all the pain go away.
When I think of my childhood, I think of two defining events fairly early on that will stick with
me forever. I think of the first time I found out we were finally going to Chuck E. ... Show more

In an instant, my life had changed. I have no memory of my mom and dad being together and being

Waiters asking you if everything is ok
Is everything ok? is a standard service question in most restaurants. It is necessary to reinforce
good customer service standards, but in America, it s becoming the bugbear of diners. Call it fear
of legal action in case everything is not ok, the practice has become quite annoying. Many feel it s
overrated since waiters hardly give them time to actually enjoy the meal and service anyway!
Besides the obvious annoyance, many customers feel that if the question is asked too often,
chances are, something is really not quite ok. Sometimes waiters forget tables they have already
served, but customers prefer a greater balance of concern, a measure of privacy. They also want
more time to enjoy the total experience.

The Concept Of Active Listening
Listening
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines listening as paying attention to sound , but in the business
world the more specific definition provided would apply: to hear something with thoughtful
attention, give consideration (Merriam Webster Online, 2015) In the world of business, the concept
of active listening expands upon the basic concept of listening. Active listening requires the listener
to pay full attention to what is being said, making sure there is a clear understanding of what has
been said, asking questions for clarifications and not interrupting the speaker ( Active Listening,
n.d.) Great care and consideration is required to be an effective active listener. Cultivating effective
listening skills allows messages to be clearly understood so that correct and appropriate action can
be taken. Listening is the foundational skill that is the bedrock of all of the other interpersonal
skills, therefore poor listening skills can affect one s ability to effectively negotiate, coach,

The Impact of the Industrial Revolution on Western Society
The Industrial Revolution had a significant impact on Western society and the effects were
numerous and mainly positive. The Industrial Revolution began in England in the 1790 s and
spread throughout Europe and eventually to America. The extensive effects of the Industrial
Revolution influenced almost every aspect of daily life and human society in some way. During
this time period, widespread transportation such as railroads became available and important for
the movement of goods and people. Also, new social reforms came about, dealing with critical
issues including that of child labor.

children, and therefore, accelerated the process of equality in society.
An additional effect of the Industrial Revolution on Western society was the improvement in
living standards for people. The invention of the steam engine, run by coal, allowed factories to
be located in cities and no longer by water. This resulted in people flocking to these densely
populated cities for job opportunities and in turn, eventually led to bad living conditions for many
of the inhabitants. It was believed filthy living conditions in cities were a chief cause of epidemic
diseases such as cholera. In addition, overcrowded, disease ridden slums were viewed as dangerous

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, agrees in entirety with the British Fashion Council by
indicating that these figures prove the magnificent contribution that the fashion industry makes to

value rises day by day as it invests in a variety of colleges to nurture the talents of its designers and

La Booheme And Rent
Musical theatre has been a form of art and entertainment for hundreds of years. The early

America s Trade Area Of The Americas
History
Latin America is composed of seventeen countries which was colonized by Spain s and Portugal.
They are large in diverse population with four hundred and ninety million people in total. The
percentage of the Indian and African that lives in Latin America is basically seventy five percent
just in the cities. The industrial and development grew since the 1960 s; also the free Trade Area of
the Americas (FTAA) proposes to integrate economies of Latin America, North America and the
Caribbean (except Cuba). Prisons for quite a long time have been a gateway to try to save society.
However, the only thing that it s doing is hurting the social order. This happens because it creates
more problems that are not being treated from the beginning. Crime has become a big problem
during these hard times with the poor economy, but it has especially affected Latin America very
deeply because of all the problems that overcrowded prisons have brought forward. In Latin
America Brazil and Mexico are the two largest and strongest countries that have been affected with
having the highest percentage of crimes, inmates in prisons, and concerns with overcrowded
prisons. And these increase with the high crime rates in Latin America that are rising due to drug
trafficking wars in Brazil and Mexico. Brazil and Argentina are again the two of Latin America s
strongest and largest countries because they make up most of the common market where other
nations come to trade, buy goods and buy cash

Compare And Contrast Democratic Party And Republican Party
The two major political parties in the United States of America are the Democratic party and the
Republican party. Both have mostly differing views as Democrats tend to be liberal and
Republicans tend to be conservative. Democrats, usually, believe in the inherent good of
humankind while Republicans tend to believe human nature is not inherently so pure. The two
parties also have different opinions on the role of the government; Republicans believe the
government is there to protect the peoples rights and Democrats believe the government should
have a strong role. Another important topic to cover is the American s rights versus responsibilities.
Democrats tend to believe we are guaranteed more rights than given responsibilities and
Republicans believe the opposite. With all this in mind, which party has a more ethical and correct
platform?
The democratic party s platform states cooperation is better than conflict, unity is better than
division, empowerment is better than resentment, and bridges are better than walls. Democrats
believe in removing barriers and creating opportunities. One way this can be accomplished is by
ending systematic racism; this can be done by pushing for social reform, removing the
Confederate flag from public property as it is a racist symbol and by closing the racial pay and
wealth gap. Another reform the democrat will push for is the criminal justice system. Privatized
prisons and detention centers need to be ended as well as change for

Analysis Of Mahan s Advocacy For Sea Power Against...
In many scholarly and military circles, the writings of Mahan and Mackinder are often
portrayed as two purist theories opposing one another. Scholars pit Mahan s advocacy for sea
power against Mackinder s insights into the benefits of land power and soon the real genius of
both is lost. (For examples, see Dodds and Sidaway 292, 2004 and Colls 238 239, 2002 as cited
in Dodds and Sidaway 293, 2004 and Holmes and Yoshihara 25, 2005). In truth, in almost every
respect, Mahan s and Mackinder s views are complementary. While Mahan does emphasize the
importance of sea power to a nation s economic prosperity and security, his passionate insight is
a far cry from any assertion against the importance of land power. Conversely, Mackinder s
insights focus quite extensively on the potential for a country to develop a powerful land force
on the core of the Eurasian landmass, but again we see throughout his writing the underlying
assumption of the importance of sea power. Both men agreed on so many salient points that it is
far better to read their works as a whole and thereby glean the collective wisdom of their
perspectives, than to analyze them separately as two opposing schools of thought. In this way, one
can see that their complementary insights are greater than the sum of their individual works. There
are a few scholars that recognize this unfortunate trend of depicting a false land power vs. sea
power debate. Jon Sumida is one who acknowledges that the Mahan texts are often

Keeping People Well with Effective Public Health Practice
The well being of communities is dependent on effective public health practice.
In this assignment I will consider the statement The well being of communities is dependent on
effective public health practice. I will do this by looking at wellbeing, defining public health
practice and by looking at evidence based practice, epidemiology, policies and goals generated and
their effective application. I will also suggest why public health practice is not always as effective
in practice as it is in policy.
Achievement of wellbeing is the nation s aim, so now how do we in practice with limited
resources, political divisions, diverse demographics and actual poverty rising year on year causing
350,000 families alone to access one group of food banks last year( Trussel Trust 2013) , even
begin to address this process. The momentum of disease, poverty, isolation moving towards
wellbeing, achievement and community is the aim of all public health, an aim to improve the
quality of lives lived out in a myriad of circumstances. With this momentum for quality and change
wellbeing has been recognised as a measure for quality of life individually and in community and
the Prime Minister in 2010 asked the Office of National Statistics (ONS) to measure the nations
wellbeing (Cameron, 2010) The ONS attempted to comprehensively assess wellbeing of adults,
youth and children including finance, social and human capital , asking questions where networks
with others were also seen as a measure of

Hawaiian Island Research Paper
The earliest people believed to come to the Hawaiian Islands were Polynesians from the
Marquesas and they came between 500 and 750 A.D. Later, in 1000 A. D., the Tahiti came. The
Tahiti brought over the belief in gods and social hierarchy, resulting in the hawaiian people
following a Kapu system. In `1778, James cook, the first westerner to reach the Hawaiian Islands,
paved the way for other explorers to come. James cook name the Islands the Sandwich Islands so
show gratitude for the Earl of Sandwich. Cook dies a year later because of Hawaiian conflicts on
Kealakekua Bay. In 1795, King Kamehameha led a campaign through the Hawaiian Islands,
capturing and uniting all the islands under his monarchy in 1810. During his conquest, many ships

Holography Essay
Holography
While working to improve the resolution of an electron microscope, a brilliant man named Dennis
Gabor had developed a theory on Holography. This dates back to the year of 1947. Dennis Gabor
is a British/Hungarian scientist who created the word Holography from Greek terms. He used the
word holos, meaning whole, and gramma, meaning message. Gabor characterized his work as an
experiment in serendipity that was begun too soon. The next decade brought about frustration in
Holography because light sources available at the time were not coherent. In 1960 a breakthrough
came forth. The invention of the laser had pure and intense light that was well suited for the making
of holograms. Emmett Leith and Juris Upatnieks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The staple of holographic methodology is the basic of the off axis technique. The creation of a
hologram is quite extensive. A beam of laser light is visually separated into two beams. One, the
reference beam, is directed toward a piece of holographic film and expanded (its diameter
increased) so that the light covers the film evenly and completely. The second (object) beam is
directed at the subject of the composition and similarly expanded to illuminate it (Vacca, 16). The
object beam carries information about the location, size, shape, and the texture of the subject when
the object beam reflects off of it. Some of this reflected object beam then meets the reference beam
at the holographic film, producing an interference pattern which is recorded in the light sensitive
emulsion (Vacca, 16). The hologram is illuminated at the same angle as the reference beam during
the original exposure to reveal the 3 D image after the film is developed.
Another great experiment that occurred in 1962 was by Dr. Uri N. Denisyuk of the U.S.S.R. He
combined Holography with natural color photography. Natural color photography was created by
Nobel Laureate Gabriel Lippman in 1908. Denisyuk s approach produced a white light reflection
hologram that could be viewed in light from an ordinary incandescent light bulb.
Dr. T.H. Maimam of the Hughes Aircraft Corporation developed the pulsed ruby laser in 1960. This

Venus Of Willendorf Statue Analysis
Since ancient times, statuary has taken on a special role within the culture that creates it. Statues
have often been considered an important medium to represent the goals of patrons. For example,
when survival of the species was the greatest challenge facing civilization, the Venus of Willendorf
came into being. Its exaggerated bodily features represent the yearning for fecundity. As art and
sculpturehave developed, the reflection of society s values in sculpture has remained. In this paper,
I will address two statues from the ancient era; the statueof Gudea created in the neo Sumerian
period and the ancient Greek statue of the Kouros made in the archaic period. These two works
are separated by nearly fifteen centuries, and naturally the contrast of these sculptures reveals
how people s lives and artistic goals have changed over this span of years. Over the course of this
paper, I am going to address what each work represents in its respective society and the difference
in artistic style between the two civilizations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an attempt to entrench alien presence, Gudea commissioned countless statues and installed his
statues within every temple in the region. Presumably he used these statues as political means to
bring stability to the region.[1] The replicas of this statue were viewed as intermediaries between
the local deities and the rulers. This statue held an important position in Neo Sumerian society
because the populace attributed the prosperity of the nation to the benevolence of the local deities.
This particular belief also allowed local rulers to establish the regal presence in every temple. The
omnipresent image of ruler facilitated the settlement of the migratory

NRA Stereotypes
There are misconceptions and stereotypes about every culture, race, group, nationality or club
imaginable. It can be challenging to decide if stereotypes are true to the whole group or if they
are misconceptions. We stereotype others based on events we have witnessed personally or things
we have heard about them. It is very common for people to base an entire group of people off of
just a few of the members actions. Just one of the groups that has negative stereotypesare NRA
members. NRA members are stereotyped as being racists, rednecks, and psychopaths; however
these are misconceptions. Stereotypes are like labels being slapped on to your back. There can be
several stereotypes for a single group or type of person. When someone stereotypes... Show more

If I put myself into someone s shoes who has never shot a firearm before and the only
information they received about guns was that from the media, I could understand why they
think they only cause harm. What these people don t realize is that guns don t kill people,
people kill people. In other words, before guns were invented people still killed each other. There
were entire wars fought with sticks and stones. I m tired of the whole anti gun thing. Saying that
Guns cause Murders is like saying Steering Wheels cause car wrecks, said Stanley Paskavich.
Another thing these people fail to comprehend is that the people who use guns for evil get them
illegally off the streets or from other countries. So if guns were illegal, criminals would still get
their guns off the street or from the black market and Regular Joe s would have nothing to
protect themselves. If actual psychopaths, who want to commit school shootings, had no access
to guns, would that stop them from acting radical? No, they would find an alternative like
making a makeshift bomb similar to the Taliban. Or they would use a car as a weapon and hit
lots of people. Law abiding citizens need to be able to own firearms to protect themselves, says
NRA president Wayne LaPierre. The point is, guns are not the problem. Guns do a lot more good
than they do harm. Over 13,000 people in the U.S. were

The Trouble With Ambiguous Genitalia
In trying to decide what to write this last Bio paper on, I solicited the help of some of the girls I
eat with in Erdman. They twirled their forks on their plates, bit their lips, scratched their heads.
How about hermaphrodites? someone chimed in. I lit up. Sure, I thought. Hermaphrodites. That will
be interesting. And then: Wait. What s a hermaphroditeagain?
In beginning my research, more so at that point to figure out for myself what a hermaphrodite
actually was than to begin researching my paper, I had a hard time turning anything up. I talked
aloud to myself, to my computer, and to the hermaphrodites of the world. Where are you guys? I
wondered.
And then I found them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the ethicist Dr. Alice Dreger points out, one quickly runs into a problem. . .when trying to
define key or essential feminine and masculine anatomy. In fact, any close study of sexual anatomy
results in a loss of faith that there is a simple, natural sex distinction that will not break down in the
face of certain anatomical, behavioral, or philosophical challenges (3).
Because of the difficulty in defining what it means to be intersexed, it is difficult to produce
accurate statistics. It has been approximated, however, that one in one hundred people are born
with bodies which differ from standard male or female bodies (3). Furthermore, the number of
individuals receiving normalizing surgery on the genitalia is approximated to be one or two in
every one thousand births.
To go even deeper into the problem of representation, it is nearly impossible to produce accurate
statistics or even accurate studies on intersexed people because of the secrecy surrounding their
conditions. Many people are kept in the dark as to their ambiguous genitalia. The Intersex Society
of North America has deemed this secrecy a conspiracy of silence, and have begun to make moves
towards revolutionizing the treatment of intersexed babies. Rather than immediately perform
plastic surgery on a child s ambiguous sex organs, the Intersex Society of

  • 3. How Are Athenian Slaves Treated First off, let take a look at the slavery in Athens. It would be indecent for me to say that these slaves had an easy life because slavery is simply cruel and inhumane. However, Athenian slaves were the least ill treated. There were two types of Athenian slaves; privately owned and state owned. For privately owned slaves, depending on the master, the slave either had domestic responsibilities or was a tutor and caretaker of the master s children. Slaves purchased by the master of the household were received into the household community with a ceremony, attended family ceremonies, adopted the family s religion and were buried in the family graveyard (Bowman, 2007, p34). We can say that Athenian slaves were very well integrated into their master s family, it even seems like they were treated pretty similarly to their owner s children.... • 4. Essay about Civil War Civil War During the American Civil War, which lasted from 1861 1865, over 620,000 accounted soldiers were killed. Known as the quot;the first modern war quot;, historians generally agree that the reason for this was because this was a time of transition for the military. Armies and Navies were still using tactics where they would gather large forces of firepower to bear on the enemy. At the same time, weapons were being developed which were accurate and lethal well beyond any arms of the earlier conflicts. As a result of these two conditions many more casualties were sustained. Add to that the lack of medical knowledge of disease and infection and the numbers truly began to grow. This paper is an overviewof the types of weaponry that ... Fuses could be either timed so the round would explode after a certain number of seconds had elapsed, or were percussion so the ammunition would explode upon striking an object. Shells were generally used as long range rounds, meant to explode among an advancing enemy or used to blow apart enemy forts. Solid shot was a kinetic energy round. Its speed and mass were used to penetrate walls, fort and armor. To produce any type of casualty effect, the round would have to actually strike the target. Solid shot was particularly used against ironclad ships where a shell would do little or no damage. During one test an 8 inch Brooke rifle with 16 pounds of powder fired a 140 pound ball 260 yards and penetrated eight inches of iron backed by 18 inches of solid wood. While there are many accounts of troops charging bravely into a quot;hail of grape quot; there is little fact in this. Grape shot was used very little on the land battlefield during the Civil War. The ammunition encountered by the soldiers was called canister, one of the war amp;#8217;s most deadliest rounds. Canister was basically a tin packed with sawdust and musket balls which, when fired, spread out and turned the artillery piece into a giant shotgun. At close range against masses infantry this round was devastating, cutting huge swaths through the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Statement of Facts Marcus Ashmore and Terrell Lee Green were maintenance workers for J.P. Thayer Co., Inc. under supervisor Gene Fye. After a particular incident of harassment on January 16, 2001, Plaintiffs reported Fye to Tricia Johnson, the Assistant Property Manager. At this time, Johnson did nothing about the complaint. The harassment continued, and on January 26, Plaintiffs complained to the Property Manager, Mary Frances de Rivera. In response, de Rivera verbally reprimanded Fye. This, however, did not stop Fye s harassment. Instead of reporting the behavior to Defendant, Plaintiffs hired an attorney who wrote a letter to Defendant saying that Ashmore and Green were going to file charges of discrimination with the EEOC. On February 22, Fye was fired by Defendant. This came three days after getting the letter and about a month after the initial harassment complaints. Procedural History The Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit at the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. The verdict of the jury found the Defendant liable and was in favor of the Plaintiffs. Defendant then filed a motion for a new trial for judgment as a matter of law. Issue Presented Should J. P. Thayer Co., Inc. be held liable for the harassment of supervisor, Gene Fye. Court s Holding: The Court ruled in favor of the Defendant. Therefore, the Defendant isn t liable to ... • 6. Elements Of Fiction In Kate Chopin s Short Stories When writing a narrative, authors may be consistent with certain components in their composition. Authors seem to carry out corresponding elements of fiction or themes throughout their works and this can be revealed through analyzing them. The elements of fiction are plot, setting, character, symbol, and point of view. These factors aid in constructing the overall theme of a story. In the short stories The Story of an Hour and The Storm , both written by Kate Chopin, it is axiomatic that Chopin deliberately constructs similarities and differences in her stories elements of fictionand themes, which sets the stage for the narratives overall tone. To illustrate a difference in an element of fiction, we commence with plot. We can conclude that Chopin has numerous techniques to implement her notions and effectively carry out disparate plots by comparing her two short stories. In The Story of an Hour by Chopin, the main character, Louise Mallard, died of heart disease at the end of the story (Chopin 181). What this melancholy ending does for this story is create a tone of dreariness. In spite of this method, in The Storm by Chopin, at the end of this fearsome storm, everyone was happy (Chopin 123). Chopin s approach to ending this story was unlike her approach to ending The Story of an Hour. The pleasing ending of The Storm creates a fulfilled, content tone for the story. Attributes of Brechtian epic theatre Firstly when watching a Brechtian piece the most apparent is that there is no offstage. When a character no longer needs to be relevant the actor must instead simply blend into the background an example of this in a production of the threepenny opera is that a beggar after talking to Mr Peacham the beggar picks up a broom, the scene changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most physical theatre is devised in origin (the script is formed during a rehearsal), makes use of music, dance and visual artistry as well as theatre. The main aim of physical theatre is to challenge the proscenium arch thus breaking the 4th wall and encourage the audience to participate so as to include the audience in the action with the end goal of catharsis i.e. the 2 way transferal of emotion between audience and actor/actress Modern physical theatre has been influenced most of all by mime and contemporary dance. Physical theatre was started when a student by the name of jean louis barrault who rejected the notion that mime should be silent, in doing so opening up many new possibilities and thus physical theatre was born. Simplistically physical theatre is a style of theatre that focuses more on movement than dialogue that puts the human body at the centre of the process of storytelling e.g. if there is a building or monument the actors will become that building or monument, physical theatre tends to also divide into 2 subgenres, either minimalism in which the set is rather basic and is more heavily reliant on the actors, or baroque in which there is much lighting, special effects and high intensity drama. When a child is removed from a home, they can t always comprehend why they were taken away. A child may think they did something wrong. They may not realize that it is for their own good. In this case, Buddy wants to stay with his mother, even though their living conditions are rudimentary. Louise Erdrich s short story, American Horse, shows how a bond between a mother and her child can be present in less than ideal circumstances.В° This is shown when Buddy hugs Albertine like a gorilla, when he feels the satin roses, and the emergency chocolate bar.* Buddy s relationship with his mother seems very strong. Buddy clearly loves his mother in many ways. Erdrich explains that when Buddy tries to hug Albertine, she told him to stop hugging her like a gorilla (17). Often, when children hug their parents, a special connection is made that can last a lifetime. Sometimes when Buddy hugs his mother he would envision her saying, Let s get married (17). Young children have a special bond with their parents and it isn t uncommon for a child to want to marry one of them. That is part of the imagination of a young child. Also, a child s imagination can have a deeper darker side. Erdrich displays that Buddy would have times when he wished that she [Albertine] would die (17). For instance, imagine if Bill Gates offered to be your pal and forked out ten million dollars to clear your colossal debts, would he not be immediately shot up to the top of your friends list? Secondly, the level of closeness is crucial in shaping the rating of a friend. One would only consider another a good friend if both of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Hume s Problem Of Induction Essay Hume provided an integral philosophical question analyzing the problems of causality and of induction. Following Hume s claims, Kant offered his attempt to solve Hume s problem (or, more broadly, the problems that empiricism faced). By carefully explaining what the problem is that Kant is attempting to solve, then explaining vigilantly how Kant tries to solve it. Thus leading to a concluding critical examination to Kant s solution, indicating whether it s successful and why or why not that s so. Hume asserts that there is no form of good reasoning that leads to the conclusion that the future will resemble the past, or that similar causes will lead to similar effects. Hume dedicated his philosophical work trying to uncover the problem of induction, and his skepticism of causality. Hume s claims stem from separating two asserts of knowledge as relations of ideas priori, meaning that they are certain and it is impossible to imagine them to be false, they tell you about the meaning of words, knowledge of truths and facts and matters of fact much of what the scientific community uses, there are craters on the moon, uncertain and can be imagined to be false, tell you about the world. Democrats tend to believe we are guaranteed more rights than given responsibilities and Republicans believe the opposite. With all this in mind, which party has a more ethical and correct platform? The democratic party s platform states cooperation is better than conflict, unity is better than division, empowerment is better than resentment, and bridges are better than walls. Democrats believe in removing barriers and creating opportunities. One way this can be accomplished is by ending systematic racism; this can be done by pushing for social reform, removing the Confederate flag from public property as it is a racist symbol and by closing the racial pay and wealth gap. Another reform the democrat will push for is the criminal justice system. Privatized prisons and detention centers need to be ended as well as change for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Analysis Of Mahan s Advocacy For Sea Power Against... In many scholarly and military circles, the writings of Mahan and Mackinder are often portrayed as two purist theories opposing one another. Scholars pit Mahan s advocacy for sea power against Mackinder s insights into the benefits of land power and soon the real genius of both is lost. (For examples, see Dodds and Sidaway 292, 2004 and Colls 238 239, 2002 as cited in Dodds and Sidaway 293, 2004 and Holmes and Yoshihara 25, 2005). In truth, in almost every respect, Mahan s and Mackinder s views are complementary. While Mahan does emphasize the importance of sea power to a nation s economic prosperity and security, his passionate insight is a far cry from any assertion against the importance of land power. Conversely, Mackinder s insights focus quite extensively on the potential for a country to develop a powerful land force on the core of the Eurasian landmass, but again we see throughout his writing the underlying assumption of the importance of sea power. Both men agreed on so many salient points that it is far better to read their works as a whole and thereby glean the collective wisdom of their perspectives, than to analyze them separately as two opposing schools of thought. In this way, one can see that their complementary insights are greater than the sum of their individual works. There are a few scholars that recognize this unfortunate trend of depicting a false land power vs. sea power debate. Jon Sumida is one who acknowledges that the Mahan texts are often ... • 44. Keeping People Well with Effective Public Health Practice The well being of communities is dependent on effective public health practice. In this assignment I will consider the statement The well being of communities is dependent on effective public health practice. I will do this by looking at wellbeing, defining public health practice and by looking at evidence based practice, epidemiology, policies and goals generated and their effective application. I will also suggest why public health practice is not always as effective in practice as it is in policy. Achievement of wellbeing is the nation s aim, so now how do we in practice with limited resources, political divisions, diverse demographics and actual poverty rising year on year causing 350,000 families alone to access one group of food banks last year( Trussel Trust 2013) , even begin to address this process. The momentum of disease, poverty, isolation moving towards wellbeing, achievement and community is the aim of all public health, an aim to improve the quality of lives lived out in a myriad of circumstances. With this momentum for quality and change wellbeing has been recognised as a measure for quality of life individually and in community and the Prime Minister in 2010 asked the Office of National Statistics (ONS) to measure the nations wellbeing (Cameron, 2010) The ONS attempted to comprehensively assess wellbeing of adults, youth and children including finance, social and human capital , asking questions where networks with others were also seen as a measure of ... • 45. Hawaiian Island Research Paper The earliest people believed to come to the Hawaiian Islands were Polynesians from the Marquesas and they came between 500 and 750 A.D. Later, in 1000 A. D., the Tahiti came. The Tahiti brought over the belief in gods and social hierarchy, resulting in the hawaiian people following a Kapu system. In `1778, James cook, the first westerner to reach the Hawaiian Islands, paved the way for other explorers to come. James cook name the Islands the Sandwich Islands so show gratitude for the Earl of Sandwich. Cook dies a year later because of Hawaiian conflicts on Kealakekua Bay. In 1795, King Kamehameha led a campaign through the Hawaiian Islands, capturing and uniting all the islands under his monarchy in 1810. During his conquest, many ships anchored ... • 46. Holography Essay Holography While working to improve the resolution of an electron microscope, a brilliant man named Dennis Gabor had developed a theory on Holography. This dates back to the year of 1947. Dennis Gabor is a British/Hungarian scientist who created the word Holography from Greek terms. He used the word holos, meaning whole, and gramma, meaning message. Gabor characterized his work as an experiment in serendipity that was begun too soon. The next decade brought about frustration in Holography because light sources available at the time were not coherent. In 1960 a breakthrough came forth. The invention of the laser had pure and intense light that was well suited for the making of holograms. Emmett Leith and Juris Upatnieks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The staple of holographic methodology is the basic of the off axis technique. The creation of a hologram is quite extensive. A beam of laser light is visually separated into two beams. One, the reference beam, is directed toward a piece of holographic film and expanded (its diameter increased) so that the light covers the film evenly and completely. The second (object) beam is directed at the subject of the composition and similarly expanded to illuminate it (Vacca, 16). The object beam carries information about the location, size, shape, and the texture of the subject when the object beam reflects off of it. Some of this reflected object beam then meets the reference beam at the holographic film, producing an interference pattern which is recorded in the light sensitive emulsion (Vacca, 16). The hologram is illuminated at the same angle as the reference beam during the original exposure to reveal the 3 D image after the film is developed. Another great experiment that occurred in 1962 was by Dr. Uri N. Denisyuk of the U.S.S.R. He combined Holography with natural color photography. Natural color photography was created by Nobel Laureate Gabriel Lippman in 1908. Denisyuk s approach produced a white light reflection hologram that could be viewed in light from an ordinary incandescent light bulb. Dr. T.H. Maimam of the Hughes Aircraft Corporation developed the pulsed ruby laser in 1960. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Venus Of Willendorf Statue Analysis Since ancient times, statuary has taken on a special role within the culture that creates it. Statues have often been considered an important medium to represent the goals of patrons. For example, when survival of the species was the greatest challenge facing civilization, the Venus of Willendorf came into being. Its exaggerated bodily features represent the yearning for fecundity. As art and sculpturehave developed, the reflection of society s values in sculpture has remained. In this paper, I will address two statues from the ancient era; the statueof Gudea created in the neo Sumerian period and the ancient Greek statue of the Kouros made in the archaic period. These two works are separated by nearly fifteen centuries, and naturally the contrast of these sculptures reveals how people s lives and artistic goals have changed over this span of years. Over the course of this paper, I am going to address what each work represents in its respective society and the difference in artistic style between the two civilizations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an attempt to entrench alien presence, Gudea commissioned countless statues and installed his statues within every temple in the region. Presumably he used these statues as political means to bring stability to the region.[1] The replicas of this statue were viewed as intermediaries between the local deities and the rulers. This statue held an important position in Neo Sumerian society because the populace attributed the prosperity of the nation to the benevolence of the local deities. This particular belief also allowed local rulers to establish the regal presence in every temple. The omnipresent image of ruler facilitated the settlement of the migratory ... • 48. NRA Stereotypes There are misconceptions and stereotypes about every culture, race, group, nationality or club imaginable. It can be challenging to decide if stereotypes are true to the whole group or if they are misconceptions. We stereotype others based on events we have witnessed personally or things we have heard about them. It is very common for people to base an entire group of people off of just a few of the members actions. Just one of the groups that has negative stereotypesare NRA members. NRA members are stereotyped as being racists, rednecks, and psychopaths; however these are misconceptions. Stereotypes are like labels being slapped on to your back. There can be several stereotypes for a single group or type of person. When someone stereotypes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If I put myself into someone s shoes who has never shot a firearm before and the only information they received about guns was that from the media, I could understand why they think they only cause harm. What these people don t realize is that guns don t kill people, people kill people. In other words, before guns were invented people still killed each other. There were entire wars fought with sticks and stones. I m tired of the whole anti gun thing. Saying that Guns cause Murders is like saying Steering Wheels cause car wrecks, said Stanley Paskavich. Another thing these people fail to comprehend is that the people who use guns for evil get them illegally off the streets or from other countries. So if guns were illegal, criminals would still get their guns off the street or from the black market and Regular Joe s would have nothing to protect themselves. If actual psychopaths, who want to commit school shootings, had no access to guns, would that stop them from acting radical? No, they would find an alternative like making a makeshift bomb similar to the Taliban. Or they would use a car as a weapon and hit lots of people. Law abiding citizens need to be able to own firearms to protect themselves, says NRA president Wayne LaPierre. The point is, guns are not the problem. Guns do a lot more good than they do harm. Essay on The Trouble With Ambiguous Genitalia The Trouble With Ambiguous Genitalia In trying to decide what to write this last Bio paper on, I solicited the help of some of the girls I eat with in Erdman. They twirled their forks on their plates, bit their lips, scratched their heads. How about hermaphrodites? someone chimed in. I lit up. Sure, I thought. Hermaphrodites. That will be interesting. And then: Wait. What s a hermaphroditeagain? In beginning my research, more so at that point to figure out for myself what a hermaphrodite actually was than to begin researching my paper, I had a hard time turning anything up. I talked aloud to myself, to my computer, and to the hermaphrodites of the world. Where are you guys? I wondered. And then I found them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the ethicist Dr. Alice Dreger points out, one quickly runs into a problem. . .when trying to define key or essential feminine and masculine anatomy. In fact, any close study of sexual anatomy results in a loss of faith that there is a simple, natural sex distinction that will not break down in the face of certain anatomical, behavioral, or philosophical challenges (3). Because of the difficulty in defining what it means to be intersexed, it is difficult to produce accurate statistics. It has been approximated, however, that one in one hundred people are born with bodies which differ from standard male or female bodies (3). Furthermore, the number of individuals receiving normalizing surgery on the genitalia is approximated to be one or two in every one thousand births. To go even deeper into the problem of representation, it is nearly impossible to produce accurate statistics or even accurate studies on intersexed people because of the secrecy surrounding their conditions. Many people are kept in the dark as to their ambiguous genitalia. The Intersex Society of North America has deemed this secrecy a conspiracy of silence, and have begun to make moves towards revolutionizing the treatment of intersexed babies. Rather than immediately perform plastic surgery on a child s ambiguous sex organs, the Intersex Society of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
