Physical Storage Media Such As Usb Drives And External Hdds
physical storage media such as USB drives and external HDDs. If students backup work to personal
backup systems regularly their should be no issues with consistency but if students neglect to backup
work every time it is changed then them being in charge of their own backup would ne unpractical
because in the event of data loss they could not backup to the most recent version of the file.
There also arises an issue of students bringing their own storage media which as well as external
storage devices includes the student s device itself. It is possible that the student s devices have
become corrupted with various issues such as, worms, virus, adware and spyware. Depending on the
conditions, the network connection may create an environment for the malware to spread to other
devices and cause multiple infections. However an advantage of this would be the school would not
need to spend money on backup hardware.
File types would become an issue when students are using a range of freeware on their devices. Rather
than pay $1000 dollars for Adobe Photoshop as explained earlier freeware is available that can
perform the same tasks to the same or a less technical level. These often have their own file types to
save in but many of them for example Kingston office allows users to save in the same file type or a
compatible file type for its paid counterpart, however some freeware may not offer this feature which
means all work will need to be completed on the students device in

In 1644 john Milton was attempting to preserve the books which were being destroyed through
censorship. He even said, He who destroys a good book, kills reason itself I agree with him.
The Government was pretty much censoring whatever they wanted and even arresting people who
didn t follow it exactly. And the Government was even invading people s privacy to check their books
and burning the books that weren t censored. John Milton, a writer himself, decided to take a stand on
what he believed was right and wrote an essay on his beliefs, along with proofs to back himself up.
Milton was definitely against Censorship. I think he wanted to preserve the books and the ideas of the
people who wrote them. I also believe he wanted to see the book the way the person who wrote it
wished it to be seen. People s names were even being censored out of the books.
...books are not absolutely dead things, but do contain a potency of life in them to be as active as that
soul was whose progeny they are; nay, they do preserve as in a vial the purest efficacy and extraction
of that living intellect that bred them. I know they are as lively, and as vigorously productive, as those

Pros And Negatives Of The Gold Rush
The Gold Rush was a period of time that totally transformed the United States. The Gold Rush
expanded America and added new and improved culture into the country. People came from far and
wide to search for gold and hunt for newfound money. So much gold was found it gave a lot of people
that did not have money hope. It gave considerable positives like temporary economic stability and the
ultimate expansion of America. Even though the Gold Rush encouraged some economic stability, it
was ultimately harmful because it caused economic recession, it kept the country in economic chaos
for too long a period, and expanded xenophobia due to the influx of outsiders coming for gold. The
United States of America was in absolute turmoil right before the Gold Rush due to tensions regarding
slavery. On the East Coast there was the debate over slavery and there were talks about secession from
the South. No state had discerned whether or not to secede yet, but there were talks including the
Missouri Compromise and the Nullification Crisis. The Missouri Compromise was a compromise
created by Henry Clay to maintain the balance of slave and free states in the Union. The Nullification
Crisis was when the North and South had so many disagreements a compromise was made where if
two thirds of a state decided they wanted to nullify a law they could. On the west coast, the Mexican
American war was coming to a close. This was a territorial war that took place near the Rio Grande.

The Mountain Air
Gently, I open my tired eyes to the bright morning lights shining through the cracks of my aging tent.
Stretching my horribly sore, cramping legs under my snowsuit, I take in a big breath of the mountain
air. Christopher, Michael are you ready to go yet? Get out of your tents! Rachel hollers from her tent.
Alright, Michael yells bitterly from behind me. Smiling, I carefully unzip my cramped tent and gaze in
awe at my utterly stunning snowy mountain view. Small, white flakes are falling from the light gray
sky, working together to make yet another layer of untouched snow. Down below are treacherous
slopes, steep cliffs, and slippery patches of ice that used to terrify me but don t anymore. Seeing that

One man had particularly interesting stories, as he was the group s guide and had trekked up and down
Mount Everest many times before. I have to warn you, he said in a serious tone. The weather is
warming up, and that means the glaciers are too. We saw a big avalanche happen right before our eyes
a few days ago. Be careful, stick together, and consider calling a guide to help you out. Wide eyed I
nod firmly, thank him for the useful advice, and hastily run up the path to catch up with Rachel and
Michael. I walk up the snowy trail, think about the man s wise words, and realize my feelings are
vacillated. We are so close to finishing, but I don t want to discontinue after all that we have
accomplished. Guys, did you hear what that guide said before? We should start to be more careful , I
expressed. Looking at each other, Michael and Rachel came to the same conclusion: I was crazy. We
have been doing this for almost two months, Christopher. We don t need a guide to boss us around,
Rachel snapped at me. Lagging hours of silence between the three of us become awkward,
uncomfortable, and frustrating. Suddenly I hear a thundering noise coming from behind me, and I
nervously turn my head to see what is going on. Gasping, I point to the avalanche that is coming down
right on the spot where we just walked past. That is exactly the kind of danger that we need to look

Similarities Between Dawalski And Blanche Dubois
Character is how a person acts when no one else is looking. As a person is portrayed and perceived
they are better understood when unveiling the true personality of an individual rather than their false
persona. Both Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski s performance vary and differ depending on the
situation and the person of interaction. Blanches fluctuating performance and actions can be found
countless times in the book A Street Car Named Desire. To analyze this personality aspect, Blanche
can been seen doing this with her sister Stella Dubois. Williams reveals this in the lines Now don t get
worried, your sister hasn t turned into a drunkard, she s just all shaken up and hot and tired and dirty ,
and again in What you are talking about is brutal desire just desire . The primary evidence can reveal
her fraud performance upon encountering her sister once again. Blanche attempts to portray herself as
a traditional, accepted woman. She pretends to be a woman of no fault and who only drinks on rare
occasions. Yet when the story is further read she can be seen drinking day after day. Blanche can
actually be classified as a drunk seeking to escape from reality. Blanche strives to fulfill the
performance of a conventional day to day woman, in front of her sister Stella. The proceeding
evidence is a very hypocritical statement made by Blanche. Blanche refers to just desire as merely a
physical, sexual aspect between Stanley and Stella. Blanche again exerts her best

Heroin And The Natural Endorphin Production
Diacetylmorphine, known as heroin, is an extremely addictive drug that comes from the opium poppy,
Papaver somniferum [1]. The poppy plant contains latex, which is harvested from cutting the seed and
gathering the juice that flows out. This juice contains morphine, which can be converted into heroin
through simple chemical processes. [1]. When introduced into the body, heroin mimics peptide
substances called endorphins [2]. The specific endorphins that heroin effects are neurotransmitters in
the brain that are responsible for pain, pleasure, and fatigue. Heroin will combine with the receptors in
the brain to induce a state of euphoria and analgesia [2]. This causes a reduction in the natural
endorphin production. These modifications cause a person the need to replace the naturally produced
endorphins, which creates an ongoing addiction [2]. There are many drugs that have been developed
in the past to try to help heroin addicts cope with their addictions. However, most of these drugs have
either had side effects or have not produced a full effect of sobriety from the user. Some popular drugs
that have been developed more recently are methadone, Levo aplha acetyl methadol (LAAM), and
Buprenorphine [1]. About 1.6% of the population, or around 4.2 million Americans aged twelve and
up, were reported to use heroin in the year 2011. Among those 4.2 million, 23% of the user population
was reported to be dependent on the drug [3]. It has been estimated that 27 38% of

The Importance Of Asian Culture
Asian culture is a salient component of our world s vastly different viewpoints, struggles, and diverse
customs. Moreover, it is important be aware of the diversity of Asian culture as over 26 countries are
included (Hildebrand, Phenice, Gray, Hines, 2008). In reviewing three separate TED Talks related to
Asian culture I discovered that they work incredibly hard for what they believe in. For instance, the
brave individuals who escape from North Korea and the outwardly LGBTQ+ members in Taiwan or
Japan that face adversity. In western culture, I believe, that we focus so heavily on the honor and
respect heavily in their society that we overlook other traits. It s the one story narratives that cause a
detriment as to how we view another groups culture and people. According to Leslie T. Chang, the
Western thoughts surrounding Chinese factory workers is both closed minded as well as rarely
includes the actual viewpoint of the worker themselves. Globalization is a major factor in the large
number of factories. In addition, we focus on the poor working conditions and by our standards lower
pay. Chang s speech eloquently states that as a country we overestimate our effects on other; our
desires for new technology does not result in Chinese people suffering in factories. They choose to
leave their homes in order to earn money, to learn new skills, and to see the world. In the ongoing
debate about globalization, what s been missing is the voices of the workers themselves (Chang,

Comparing and Contrasting the Role of Women in Things...
Role of Women in Things Fall Apart and Heart of Darkness Women were once little more than slaves
to their male betters. Some women might have been respected, but their places were limited to roles as
wives and mothers. They might rule a home, but were not believed intelligent enough for any other
role. This chauvinistic attitude is well reflected in the novels Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe,
and Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad. In Things Fall Apart, women are praised in their capacities
as wives and mothers, almost revered really. In many instances, Achebe paints glowing pictures of
them in these roles. Anasi was a middle aged woman, tall and strongly built. There was authority in

There were many women, but they looked on from the fringe like outsiders (Achebe 87). With the
festivals, held in the public places, men presided and took the seats of honor in front. Women were
forced to stand at the edges and look on from there because they simply weren t as important. It was
the men who held the courts of justice and decided on punishment. Also, throughout the book, Achebe
emphasizes the women s role in childbearing and their fault if the children are not born healthy. Nneka
has had four previous pregnancies and childbirths. But each time she had borne twins, and they had
been immediately thrown away. Her husband and his family were already becoming highly critical of
such a woman and were not unduly perturbed when they found she had fled to join the Christians. It
was a good riddance (Achebe 151). Because Nneka could no longer fulfill her role as a mother in Ibo
society, she was no longer respected. She was not valued for her intelligence or her personality. She
was valued by whether or not she could produce healthy children. Because she couldn t, she no longer
had a place in her society. In Heart of Darkness women are not paid much attention beyond that of
Kurtz s mistress and his fiancee. The only other women mentioned in the novel are the two ladies
knitting with skeins of black wool, and the narrator s aunt, who got him his job with the Company.

Hero Definition Essay
Definition Essay
Think about people who deserve status as heroes from the past, from the present, from life, and from
literature. What defines a hero? Write a multi paragraph essay that develops your definition of
heroism. Be sure to use strategies of definition (function, example, and negation) to guide your writing
What do you think defines a hero, what do you think makes a hero a hero? A hero is strong,
courageous but never weak or cowardly. Heroes are good for being strong, they are meant to help
people and be courageous no matter what. A hero can be anyone from a firefighter to a grandparent.
Common misconceptions with heroes are that people think that they have to wear capes or that they
have to be/look physically strong.
Although, Sometimes you have to wonder, was a hero ever just a normal person? Yes, all heroes will
start out as a normal person until they do something to make themselves more greater than a normal
person. ¨All the best heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary.¨(Gerard Way). In
other words, all the best heroes started off as regular people and then they do something great and

Ethnographic Research on Victoria s Secret and Target The purpose of this paper was to observe the
consumers of a retail store of my choice; I chose to observe Victoria s Secret and Targets consumers,
because I myself am consumers of those stores quite often, then to analyze the behavior of the
consumers of Victoria s Secret and Target. Victoria s Secret and Target consumers differ because of the
difference in type of retail they offer and sell. Victoria s Secret consumers know what they are going
to be shopping for women and certain needs or wants they are looking to satisfy. Target consumers

One consumer who was around the age of 45 spent about 15 minutes looking through body mists and
perfumes, between box sets of the 60 mL mists/perfumes to the 250 mL mists/perfumes. I found that
many consumers who were with more than one person did complain about prices. They made
comments about how they can get the same item at Target or Wal Mart for a lower price. Those who
were out shopping for Christmas presents I found complained more, as if they were hoping for a
special deal due to the holiday. One customer I overheard stated, she is crazy to think I am going to
spend $50 on one pair of yoga pants, I ll go to Target and get a pair for $20 instead. I did not hear
many consumers ask about prices, Victoria s Secret tags every product with a price, so consumers are
aware of the price as they browse. I decided to tag along with Lesnick and observe what kind of
questions she was asked, or how she was treated when she would approach a customer. The retail staff
was very friendly, and helpful. I did observe that many consumers were annoyed of this; I witnessed
one customer who was approached by six sales associates. She finally threw her hands up and said, I
really am okay, no I do not need any help picking out underwear for myself, and no I do not need a
basket, and yes I have already read the signs saying Buy on bra get the other 50% off, and she walked
to the register very angry. Lesnick was approached by several consumers who asked for

Joseph Campbell Monomyth
Myths and stories about great heroes serve to let people realize the hero potential that they have in
themselves. It has always been the prime function of mythology and rite to supply the symbols that
carry the human spirit forward, in counteraction to those that tend to tie it back. (Campbell, The Hero
with a Thousand Faces) Joseph Campbell, an American mythologist, developed the idea of
monomyth, which is the theory that all myths are variations of the same story. He believed that
everyone has the potential to be a hero, and that heroes all follow the same journey described in the
monomyth theory. The idea of monomyth states that no matter what time period, the journey for a
hero will be very similar. Campbell s theory can be seen in traditional myths, such as the Anglo Saxon
tale of Beowulf, and also in the lives of contemporary heroes such as Martin Luther King Jr. Beowulf
and Martin Luther King Jr. both fit the profile for a hero and their journey is laid out similarly to the
monomyth steps of departure, initiation and the return.
The departure phase of monomyth is the starting point to a hero s story, it is the key moment when he
or she is taken out of their own familiar world. Both Martin Luther King Jr. and Beowulf had a

Banquet Scene In Macbeth
It was also a very risky but appropriate play to show Taiwan audiences at the time as it made political
comments on Taiwan s recent history as a political leader called Chiang Kai shek s tried to take over
Taiwan, the parallels are quite evident. Chiang Kai shek was a military and political leader who joined
the Chinese Nationalists Party in 1918, known as KMT. The people of Taiwan were under control of
the KMT military forces and Chiang was the cause of hundreds of bloody and violent deaths. In order
for Chiang, not unlike Macbeth, he wanted to keep control of his totalitarian regime so there was a

The scene was set with fog with blue and purple tones with her weary high pitched voice coming from
the unknown at first, ultimately holds our attention in suspense. It was visually haunting as she looked
like a corpse in rags. Another thing I noticed in the banquet scene a female performer comes in to
entertain Macbeth and does a dance with a mask. Throughout the dance she is holding two other
masks and alternately covers her face with them as she swirls, bends and crosses the stage. The masks
change with such fluidity you would hardly notice, even the type of masks and the character they
express; happy, fearful and angry. For me she was almost telling Macbeths prophecy. All of the
elements of this production made it a continuous seamless, ever growing, rhythmic sweep , especially
the final scene when Au Shu is up on his perch telling his soldiers they cannot lose as the prophet told
him so, unless the forest moves. It was then that his own soldiers fire arrows at him creating a slow
death with Au Shu doing a back flip from a raised level to stage level in full view. It was incredible
and symbolized his fall from grace. His own soldiers took Macbeths head and brought it to the rebel
army to save themselves as they could see Macbeth had gone mad. It was certainly a tragedy, from
start to finish the psychological and emotional values were apparent. Even though the play was in
Taiwanese and the subtitles were simple English the two different styles blended together so nicely
that the relationship, goals, the guilt and fear then the demise of the Macbeths was created with such

Tips on Looking for the Best Tactical Flashlight
h3 Streamlight 69260 TLR 1 HL High Lumen Rail Mounted Tactical Light /h3
The Streamlight 69260 TLR 1 HL Rail Mounted Tactical Light is a compact and lightweight flashlight
that fits easily on many different firearms, but it may be the best tactical flashlight choice for those
with handguns due to its small size and weight. This particular light is made of anodized aircraft
aluminum, which allows it to be both light weight and very durable.
This tactical flashlight is praised for its extremely high brightness, allowing it to easily cut through
even the harshest of darkness in emergency situations. This brightness is achieved through the use of
numerous powerful LED lights that deliver 630 lumens of light, which is more than bright enough to
blind or stun enemies if needed.
Traditional batteries are the power source of choice for the Streamlight 69260, and the average battery
life is about and hour and 15 minutes of continuous use.
While there are many benefits to this light, you should always keep the negatives in mind when
searching for the best tactical flashlight. The most common complaint is that, despite the fact that
LED lights run cooler than incandescent bulbs, the light gets incredibly hot when active for more than
a few minutes. The heat is also not contained to the glass or front of the light. The entire unit heats up
extremely quickly. This may not seem like a major problem since the light is not meant to be hand
held, but users could end up burning their

Analysis Of The Community Is Anomic, By Kirst Ashman
Watts Community is anomic, According to Kirst Ashman (2014) anomic refers to a failed community
which is dysfunctional and provides little social support. An anomic community has not or does not
take advantage of outside linkages; there is no sense of belonging to the community. Some conditions
that illustrate the Watts neighborhood is anomic are the residents of the community live in fear and do
not trust each other. The community fails to address persistent problems poverty, unemployment, and
lack of financial resources for education. Also, the community was alienated and isolated from
interacting with other sections of the city. They lived in poor housing conditions. Gangs, guns, crime,
destruction, and drugs surrounded the neighborhood. There was no investment in the schools or the
children of the community. The community was not in harmony with each other. Through
stratification, political discrimination occurred, based on their wealth and social, economic status.
Residents of the city lacked purpose which brought on depression. There is no identity among the
citizens. Oppression, discrimination, and unjust treatment are just a few issues that plagued the
community. Researchers Williams and Kristin (2010) states historically, trauma is the result of
stressful events that overwhelms an individual ability to cope with stressors and life events. African
Americans suffered from multiple injuries as a result of slavery, racism, and discrimination.

nothing else on television at the time. Gene Roddenberry the creator of Star Trek was all about the

The cast thought was that it was ridiculous, but a decision was made with Gene Roddenberry to film
two alternate versions of the scene. In the first version Captain Kirk kissed Uhura in front of the
camera to the directors dissatisfaction. In the second version Captian Kirk turned Uhura around
obscuring her from the view of the director, but also purposely ruined the scene by crossing his eyes
forcing the episode to go with the kissing scene. Thus, the first african american to caucasian kiss was
aired on american television. The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) had concerns the episode
would anger TV stations in the Deep South (Gerogia, Alabama, South Carolina, Mississippi Louisiana
and in Texas), and had had similar concerns with musical sequence earlier that year featuring the first

Solution Focused Brief Therapy Essay
Introduction
The emergence of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) marked a changing of the guard within the
realm of psychotherapy. For the previous century, the profession had been dominated by theories and
practices, which was focused on unearthing a client s repressed memories or family issues in hopes of
identifying cracks in their mental and/or their emotional foundation that needed to be fixed. The
change in perspective and approach presented by Steven de Shazer and his counterparts provided
therapist and clients alike an opportunity to center in on the presenting issue, instead of prolonging the
process in search of hidden truths. While de Shazer presented an alternative thought process to the
therapeutic process, his model was the culmination of various therapist and models continuing to push
the envelope.
Historical Background
The American psychiatrist, Milton Erickson had been credited as one of the pioneers for stepping
away from conventional thinking. He suggested therapy must be intensive and required a long term
commitment. In fact, his stance of successful therapy often did not necessitate a lengthy therapeutic
relationship along with a small change by the client was the catalyst needed to bring about larger
change are both cornerstones in SFBT (Visser, 2013). Psychiatrist Gregory Bateson was responsible
for two significant contributions in the development of SFBT. The first was his view that the social

Jon Harris In Into Thin Air
After finishing the novel Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer, detailing the first hand experience of the
catastrophe that took place on Mount Everest in 1996 and ultimately killed fifteen people, it has come
to my attention the importance using of supplemental oxygen while climbing at high altitudes.
Although many people have accomplished to summit Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen,
those attempting to summit Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen will potentially have
disastrous repercussions on not only themselves but the climbers surrounding them causing serious
injuries or in some cases death.
Numerous climbers have experienced the harsh effects of high altitudes when traveling up mountains
due to the lack of oxygen and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, Krakauer hoped to conserve what little he had and asked his friend, Andy Harris, to turn
his regulator down. Unfortunately, Krakauer soon realized that Harris, in his hypoxically impaired
state, had mistakenly cranked the valve open to full flow, draining the tank. (Krakauer) With the
declining amount of oxygen reaching the brain, climbers have trouble performing even the easiest
tasks. Harris demonstrates the importance of using supplemental oxygen for his own health, but also
the dangers it may have on his teammates. Harris s hypoxic mistake caused Krakauer to panic and he
slowly suffocated until he descended and retrieved a fresh tank of oxygen. Although Harris was not
aware of his mistake, the lack of oxygen was changing the way he thought and reacted in certain
situations, therefore posing a danger to his friends and teammates while in such an intense landscape.

The Theory And The Psychoanalytic Theory
Although used predominantly to explain the varying characteristics each individual possesses,
personality is also a term often coined to define and explain the reasons behind an individual s
motivations and reactions to certain events, entities and decisions. Defined by Larson Buss, 2005,
personality is the set of psychological traits and mechanisms within the individual that are organised

In contrast, the humanistic approach emphasised the conscious awareness of needs, choices and
personal responsibilities of the individual (Lahey, 2009). They believed that the personal worth of the
particular individual, the centrality of human values, and the creative and active nature of human
beings was what defined the person (McLeod, 2007). Basically, the humanistic approach, according to
Abraham Maslow, was that humans are born good and that human nature is compassionate and
positive (Larsen Buss, 2012).
Both the psychoanalytic and humanistic theories differ from one another in multiple ways. One of the
most prominent differences is their view on human nature. As mentioned above, Freud and his
psychoanalytic concept, viewed humans as inherently bad. The id, he defined, operated solely on the
pleasure principle, craving immediate gratification without consideration about moral values and the
harm it could cause (McLeod, 2008). He also believed that the ego and the superego was the minds
way of controlling the id ((Lahey, 2009; Larsen Buss, 2012; McLeod, 2008).
In contrast, humanistic psychologists viewed human nature as fundamentally good. Maslow had a
positive view on men, believing that each had the ability to grow and mature into proper beings, and
make use of their full potential (Boeree, 2000 Larsen Buss, 2012). The main emphasis of the
humanistic approach, was that an individual has free will and this plays an important role in shaping

Higher Education in India
Abstract
Higher Education in India Issues and Challenges
Higher Education in India is improving gradually after Independence. It is in the second place in the
world after United States. Some institutions of India, such as the Indian Institutes of Technology
(IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), National Institute of Technology (NITs) and
Jawaharlal Nehru University have been globally acclaimed for their standard of education. University
Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), are two apex
organisations that cater for the higher education in India. The solutions for the below mentioned

List of IIT s (Indian Institute of Technology) in India
Entrance examinations
The Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE) is an annual college entrance
examination in India, used as the sole admission criterion by the IITs. The examination is organised
each year by one of the various IITs, using a round robin rotation pattern. It has a very low admission
rate (about 1 in 50 in 2011). A proposal for replacing (IIT JEE) with a common engineering entrance
examination was made in 2010 and but due to resistance from many IIT s this proposel is still under
consideration. For Post Graduate studies, the entrance is conducted on the basis of the Gate score card
which is organised by IISC, Bangalore and IIT s followed by written tests and interviews by the
respective IIT s.
New Admission Policy of IITs
Joint Admission Board (JAB) of IIT Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2013 met on August 27,
2012 at IIT Delhi to discuss the forthcoming admission. The admission to the undergraduate
programmes at the 16 IITs and ISMU, Dhanbad for the year 2013 will be based on a two tier test. The
first test called the JEE (Main), will be held during the month of April, 2013 (both offline and online).

Chinese And United States Foreign Policy

Chinese, English and United States China Foreign Policy in Asia
This memo communicates my deepening anxieties about the broadening disparity in trade and
commerce and a shift in the balance of military power between China, England and the United States.
Since our last communique, the POTUS (President of the Unites States) McKinley has died. There s
been a reversal of the Open Door Strategy since President s McKinley s assassination. President
Roosevelt now commander and chief of America and has restructured a grand American vision for the
U.S. to expand its authority far beyond her natural borders. The U.S. goal to spread its Washingtonian
Gilded Age democracy through merchants and missionaries has ended and is now being transformed
and driven by hegemony and empire building. The new POTUS and Secretary of State John Hay
(former Ambassador to England) have implemented a strategy to make the building of the U.S
military its number one national objective. We see this large scale military buildup as a threat to both
England and China.
English trade merchants rightly protest the U.S. devouring unfairly the lion s share of profits from
China s commerce that has resulted in a profound shift in the balance of Pacific trade favorably
towards the United States. England believes there are still greater plans by the U.S. to manipulate
currencies to promote their quest to conquer the entire American and

Foreign Military During Control On The Street
Liana Arnot
Professor Dominguez
English 101
4 December 2015 Imagine stepping outside and there was a foreign military in control on the street
that you live on. Having one s home invaded by an unfamiliar person is a scary and traumatizing
experience. It encourages a person to take more precautionary measures to ensure that their home is
safe, but being watchful is not always a guarantee of safety. This concept reflects what the people of
Okinawa experienced in the nineteen forties and still struggle with today. The beautiful island of
Okinawa is located south of Japan and is composed of several small islands. Okinawa was its own
Ryukyu Kingdom before it was annexed by the Japanese in 1879 (mainichi.jp). Today, the Japanese
government itself does not truly treat Okinawa as an equal to mainland Japan. In fact, many of the
Okinawans do not consider themselves to be Japanese and actively voice that their culture is starkly
different than that of the Japanese people. The Japanese government is placing these bases on the
Okinawan s home without consulting them. It is an unfair act upon the locals because their home is
being taken from and they can do nothing to stop it. The bases are not only disliked by the locals but it
is also harming their marine life and polluting their environment. Mainland Japan is fully capable of
housing the new military bases but they would rather throw it on the nonviolent island of Okinawa.
The locals of Okinawa have not had a pleasant experience

The At The Charlotte Fine Art Gallery
Today started out like any other day. I had been working at the Charlotte Fine Art Gallery for over 6
months now. Before my College Graduation I had worked for the Fine Art Gallery as an Internship the
previous summer when they asked me to consider a full time curator position upon graduation. Debra
Collin, owner, of the prestigious gallery wanted a fresh new eye for up and coming artists locally and
nationally. She was a tough, sophisticated North Carolina socialite who had a passion for art but a
stronger desire to control those around her. She sported short, cropped, black hair, pale porcelain well
maintained skin and every day she wore a new couture black dress. Debra walked with a confidant
and cool demeanor. Her reputation for demanding perfection and deeply over critical nature preceded
her. However, when the curator position was presented to me, she assured me my creative eye and
instinct for finding new raw talent with innovative techniques would not be hindered. Debra would
allow me full creative control. I was thrilled at this prestigious opportunity and couldn t wait for
Graduation. Flash forward to the day several months later that would open my eyes to the reality that
what people say and what they actually mean are two entirely different things. Just because I had been
offered a certain position did not necessarily mean, I would actually be allowed to do my job without
some complications along the way. My role required that I find a fresh,

Man At The Crossroads
The Man at the Crossroads
Did Nelson do right in destroying Diego Rivera s mural The man at the crossroads ? The man at the
crossroads was located at the center of Rockefeller center in New York. He was right in destroying
Diego s mural because of several reasons. The first reason is that Rivera didn t achieve Nelson s vision
in how the mural would turn out. The second reason why Rockefeller was right in destroying the
painting was because it was too controversial. The last reason is that Nelson s reputation would have
been ruined by the mural. Overall Rockefeller was right in destroying Rivera s mural.
In addition, why Nelson was right about destroying Rivera s mural was that his vision wasn t achieved
by Diego. Rivera didn t achieve Nelson s vision in his work of the mural Man at the Crossroads.
According to destroyed by Rockefeller, mural trespassed on political vision(2014), She wonders what

Ordeal or Reconstruction
1. What were the four main questions facing peacemakers in 1865? a. The aftermath of the war was
crucial due to the fact that the south and north were totally separated during the civil war, but more
importantly was that all the fighting had ben done in the south, which meant that the majority of the
damage was done in the southern towns. This caused the towns and fields to be ruined, and many
properties worthless. So many peacemakers wanted to assure the southerners possessions. b. Secondly
the peacemakers were faced with was giving freedom to the black slaves, which meant that would be
the end of slavery all together. c. Since after the war the country need much reconstruction within the

e. Johnson s Reconstruction Proclamation: i. His stance on reconstruction was similar to Lincoln s, in
that he was not as harsh on the South as the Radical Republicans in Congress wanted. In May 1865,
Johnson issued his Amnesty Proclamation, which required an oath of loyalty from former
confederates, who would then be pardoned and have their property restored (except slaves) that had be
confiscated by Federal officials during the war. The only people not included in this proclamation
were high ranking military and civilian Confederate officials and those who resigned their positions in
the Federal government to serve the in the Confederacy. Johnson issued a second proclamation
outlining his plan for how the states should go about getting themselves back into the Union. Under
this plan, the President would appoint a governor to each state under reconstruction. 5. What were the
effects of the Black Codes? a. The purpose of the black codes was to keep black people from voting.
The result was the 15th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which prohibited using
race as a reason to prevent people from voting. The emancipation of black slaves in post Civil War
America did not run smoothly. Though the slaves had been freed in name, many did not feel secure
about giving black people rights. The black codes prevented black Americans from voting and

The Stonewall Riots And The Lgbt Rights Movement Into Motion
The history of LGBTQ+ Rights is, as any other civil rights movement, is a complex one. For decades
these marginalized people have fought for their basic human rights not only to get married, but also to
be protected in the workplace and use the restrooms in which they feel comfortable. Throughout much
of history, they have been dehumanized and referred to as sexual deviants. The Stonewall Riots put the
LGBTQ+ Rights Movement into motion. The photo being analyzed today was taken one year later on
June 28, 1970, at what is now known as the first ever Gay Pride Parade. The photo is owned by
gettyimages, though the watermark suggests that it belongs to a man named Fred W. McDarrah. The
photo depicts an unnamed lesbian holding a sign which says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Stereotypes place people in boxes. These boxes tend to harm others, especially marginalized groups.
Those who adhere to a preconceived standard are often ridiculed, and those who do not face a certain
degree of hostility from both those within the group and those outside of it. The way this woman is
dressed is important, because her femininity defies stereotypes about gay women. In a time where
LGBTQ+ people were finally proclaiming their identities, this would have been very important.
Let us return to the photo itself for a moment. Figures stand on either side of and behind the woman.
Those behind her are interestingly blocked off by a barricade. One begins to wonder if they are
onlookers or fellow protesters. The barricade in and of itself is symbolic. Barricades hold people back.
Societal values hold people back. The woman, though, is on the opposite side of the barricade. She
holds the sign which boldly testifies to her sexuality and her beauty, no longer letting the barricade
hold her back. In a time when homosexuality was seen as a mental illness, this could have been argued
as the woman not letting the police holding her back.
It is imperative to remember how LGBTQ+ people have been seen in society, in this case.
Unfortunately, many people see it as being dirty and unnatural. By stepping over the barricade, the
photographed woman loudly proclaims that she does not care about what society believes about her
sexuality. She is a woman

However, it wasn t until the early 1900s that scientists actually started using his theory to change plant
characteristics. Fast forward to 1953, when two scientists, James Watson and Francis Crick,
discovered DNA s actual structure. Later this will be very important in helping scientists learn how to
isolate and take specific genes from one plant in order to combine with others. 1982 was an important
year because it was when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first GMO, a
diabetes medicine called Humulin. This was a big step for GMOs, as it gave the go ahead to
pharmaceutical companies that may have been hesitant to get involved with GMOs. Also the 1980s
was full of tests to see if GMO food crops were actually safe to consume, which brings us to the
1990s. In 1992 the FDA determined that they have no basis to conclude that bioengineered foods are
any different from foods developed from traditional plant breeding. In 1994 the first GMO food the
Flavr Savr tomato which was genetically altered to have a longer shelf life was approved. The demand
for the fruit was high, but due to high production costs the tomato never made much profit. Also in
1994, Monsanto, a multinational agricultural biotechnology company, introduced a genetically

Robert Duncan Poetry Analysis
Within this course, the ideas of the involvement of the mythological and the modern have been
searched for throughout various types of literature. We have analyzed poems, essays, theatrical plays
and even graphic novels to see the origin of their creative success among the masses. After studying
these pieces and their formal elements, we can see that most literature falls under classic mythological
premises such as ideas of a higher power/collective mind, power/wisdom through dream and the
purity/unforeseen knowledge of children. These ideas seem to be something that is only really
recognized by poets. The poem Often I Am Permitted To Return To A Meadow by Robert Duncan uses
all of these elements. Within this poet s work we see he composes a strong relationship between myth
and modern day with classical ideas, a powerful quality that makes a great poet. The idea of a higher
power or a collective mind is nothing new to humanity. The idea is as old as humanity itself and is
displayed in many modern practices and creations. The classic idea of a higher power is most widely
associated with religion. In every religion of any time period there was some belief of a higher power
or collective mind. From the polytheistic Greeks to the monotheistic Christians a higher power is
focused upon to explain things that were not yet comprehended.
Robert Duncan continues this tradition by including this idea in his opening line to start the entire
poem of with its classic sense. He begins

subjects. The independent variable was the environment that the rats were placed into. Also the
ambience of the cages were also altered for the outcome of the experiment. These changes were
crucial to the experiment because it symbolizes the different atmospheres a child can grow up in and
how the presence of or lack of stimulating objects can affect the child s brain development. The
dependent variable which is what was measure was amount of cell growth in the brain of the rats as
well as the levels of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase which is located in the brain. This is able to

  • 2. Physical Storage Media Such As Usb Drives And External Hdds physical storage media such as USB drives and external HDDs. If students backup work to personal backup systems regularly their should be no issues with consistency but if students neglect to backup work every time it is changed then them being in charge of their own backup would ne unpractical because in the event of data loss they could not backup to the most recent version of the file. There also arises an issue of students bringing their own storage media which as well as external storage devices includes the student s device itself. It is possible that the student s devices have become corrupted with various issues such as, worms, virus, adware and spyware. Depending on the conditions, the network connection may create an environment for the malware to spread to other devices and cause multiple infections. However an advantage of this would be the school would not need to spend money on backup hardware. File types would become an issue when students are using a range of freeware on their devices. Rather than pay $1000 dollars for Adobe Photoshop as explained earlier freeware is available that can perform the same tasks to the same or a less technical level. These often have their own file types to save in but many of them for example Kingston office allows users to save in the same file type or a compatible file type for its paid counterpart, however some freeware may not offer this feature which means all work will need to be completed on the students device in ... • 3. Contributions And Cons Of John Milton, Areopagitica... The submissions for this assignment are posts in the assignment s discussion. Below are the discussion posts for Gracie Lynn Buswell, or you can view the full discussion. from Module 7, John Milton, Areopagitica Assignment Nov 16, 2017 7:21pm Click to change profile picture for Gracie Lynn Buswell In 1644 john Milton was attempting to preserve the books which were being destroyed through censorship. He even said, He who destroys a good book, kills reason itself I agree with him. The Government was pretty much censoring whatever they wanted and even arresting people who didn t follow it exactly. And the Government was even invading people s privacy to check their books and burning the books that weren t censored. John Milton, a writer himself, decided to take a stand on what he believed was right and wrote an essay on his beliefs, along with proofs to back himself up. Milton was definitely against Censorship. I think he wanted to preserve the books and the ideas of the people who wrote them. I also believe he wanted to see the book the way the person who wrote it wished it to be seen. People s names were even being censored out of the books. ...books are not absolutely dead things, but do contain a potency of life in them to be as active as that soul was whose progeny they are; nay, they do preserve as in a vial the purest efficacy and extraction of that living intellect that bred them. I know they are as lively, and as vigorously productive, as those fabulous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Pros And Negatives Of The Gold Rush The Gold Rush was a period of time that totally transformed the United States. The Gold Rush expanded America and added new and improved culture into the country. People came from far and wide to search for gold and hunt for newfound money. So much gold was found it gave a lot of people that did not have money hope. It gave considerable positives like temporary economic stability and the ultimate expansion of America. Even though the Gold Rush encouraged some economic stability, it was ultimately harmful because it caused economic recession, it kept the country in economic chaos for too long a period, and expanded xenophobia due to the influx of outsiders coming for gold. The United States of America was in absolute turmoil right before the Gold Rush due to tensions regarding slavery. On the East Coast there was the debate over slavery and there were talks about secession from the South. No state had discerned whether or not to secede yet, but there were talks including the Missouri Compromise and the Nullification Crisis. The Missouri Compromise was a compromise created by Henry Clay to maintain the balance of slave and free states in the Union. The Nullification Crisis was when the North and South had so many disagreements a compromise was made where if two thirds of a state decided they wanted to nullify a law they could. On the west coast, the Mexican American war was coming to a close. This was a territorial war that took place near the Rio Grande. Former ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Mountain Air Gently, I open my tired eyes to the bright morning lights shining through the cracks of my aging tent. Stretching my horribly sore, cramping legs under my snowsuit, I take in a big breath of the mountain air. Christopher, Michael are you ready to go yet? Get out of your tents! Rachel hollers from her tent. Alright, Michael yells bitterly from behind me. Smiling, I carefully unzip my cramped tent and gaze in awe at my utterly stunning snowy mountain view. Small, white flakes are falling from the light gray sky, working together to make yet another layer of untouched snow. Down below are treacherous slopes, steep cliffs, and slippery patches of ice that used to terrify me but don t anymore. Seeing that Rachel, Michael, and I have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One man had particularly interesting stories, as he was the group s guide and had trekked up and down Mount Everest many times before. I have to warn you, he said in a serious tone. The weather is warming up, and that means the glaciers are too. We saw a big avalanche happen right before our eyes a few days ago. Be careful, stick together, and consider calling a guide to help you out. Wide eyed I nod firmly, thank him for the useful advice, and hastily run up the path to catch up with Rachel and Michael. I walk up the snowy trail, think about the man s wise words, and realize my feelings are vacillated. We are so close to finishing, but I don t want to discontinue after all that we have accomplished. Guys, did you hear what that guide said before? We should start to be more careful , I expressed. Looking at each other, Michael and Rachel came to the same conclusion: I was crazy. We have been doing this for almost two months, Christopher. We don t need a guide to boss us around, Rachel snapped at me. Lagging hours of silence between the three of us become awkward, uncomfortable, and frustrating. Suddenly I hear a thundering noise coming from behind me, and I nervously turn my head to see what is going on. Gasping, I point to the avalanche that is coming down right on the spot where we just walked past. That is exactly the kind of danger that we need to look out for, I ... • 7. Similarities Between Dawalski And Blanche Dubois Character is how a person acts when no one else is looking. As a person is portrayed and perceived they are better understood when unveiling the true personality of an individual rather than their false persona. Both Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski s performance vary and differ depending on the situation and the person of interaction. Blanches fluctuating performance and actions can be found countless times in the book A Street Car Named Desire. To analyze this personality aspect, Blanche can been seen doing this with her sister Stella Dubois. Williams reveals this in the lines Now don t get worried, your sister hasn t turned into a drunkard, she s just all shaken up and hot and tired and dirty , and again in What you are talking about is brutal desire just desire . The primary evidence can reveal her fraud performance upon encountering her sister once again. Blanche attempts to portray herself as a traditional, accepted woman. She pretends to be a woman of no fault and who only drinks on rare occasions. Yet when the story is further read she can be seen drinking day after day. Blanche can actually be classified as a drunk seeking to escape from reality. Blanche strives to fulfill the performance of a conventional day to day woman, in front of her sister Stella. The proceeding evidence is a very hypocritical statement made by Blanche. Blanche refers to just desire as merely a physical, sexual aspect between Stanley and Stella. Blanche again exerts her best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Heroin And The Natural Endorphin Production Diacetylmorphine, known as heroin, is an extremely addictive drug that comes from the opium poppy, Papaver somniferum [1]. The poppy plant contains latex, which is harvested from cutting the seed and gathering the juice that flows out. This juice contains morphine, which can be converted into heroin through simple chemical processes. [1]. When introduced into the body, heroin mimics peptide substances called endorphins [2]. The specific endorphins that heroin effects are neurotransmitters in the brain that are responsible for pain, pleasure, and fatigue. Heroin will combine with the receptors in the brain to induce a state of euphoria and analgesia [2]. This causes a reduction in the natural endorphin production. These modifications cause a person the need to replace the naturally produced endorphins, which creates an ongoing addiction [2]. There are many drugs that have been developed in the past to try to help heroin addicts cope with their addictions. However, most of these drugs have either had side effects or have not produced a full effect of sobriety from the user. Some popular drugs that have been developed more recently are methadone, Levo aplha acetyl methadol (LAAM), and Buprenorphine [1]. About 1.6% of the population, or around 4.2 million Americans aged twelve and up, were reported to use heroin in the year 2011. Among those 4.2 million, 23% of the user population was reported to be dependent on the drug [3]. It has been estimated that 27 38% of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Importance Of Asian Culture Asian culture is a salient component of our world s vastly different viewpoints, struggles, and diverse customs. Moreover, it is important be aware of the diversity of Asian culture as over 26 countries are included (Hildebrand, Phenice, Gray, Hines, 2008). In reviewing three separate TED Talks related to Asian culture I discovered that they work incredibly hard for what they believe in. For instance, the brave individuals who escape from North Korea and the outwardly LGBTQ+ members in Taiwan or Japan that face adversity. In western culture, I believe, that we focus so heavily on the honor and respect heavily in their society that we overlook other traits. It s the one story narratives that cause a detriment as to how we view another groups culture and people. According to Leslie T. Chang, the Western thoughts surrounding Chinese factory workers is both closed minded as well as rarely includes the actual viewpoint of the worker themselves. Globalization is a major factor in the large number of factories. In addition, we focus on the poor working conditions and by our standards lower pay. Chang s speech eloquently states that as a country we overestimate our effects on other; our desires for new technology does not result in Chinese people suffering in factories. They choose to leave their homes in order to earn money, to learn new skills, and to see the world. In the ongoing debate about globalization, what s been missing is the voices of the workers themselves (Chang, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Comparing and Contrasting the Role of Women in Things... Role of Women in Things Fall Apart and Heart of Darkness Women were once little more than slaves to their male betters. Some women might have been respected, but their places were limited to roles as wives and mothers. They might rule a home, but were not believed intelligent enough for any other role. This chauvinistic attitude is well reflected in the novels Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, and Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad. In Things Fall Apart, women are praised in their capacities as wives and mothers, almost revered really. In many instances, Achebe paints glowing pictures of them in these roles. Anasi was a middle aged woman, tall and strongly built. There was authority in her bearing and she looked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were many women, but they looked on from the fringe like outsiders (Achebe 87). With the festivals, held in the public places, men presided and took the seats of honor in front. Women were forced to stand at the edges and look on from there because they simply weren t as important. It was the men who held the courts of justice and decided on punishment. Also, throughout the book, Achebe emphasizes the women s role in childbearing and their fault if the children are not born healthy. Nneka has had four previous pregnancies and childbirths. But each time she had borne twins, and they had been immediately thrown away. Her husband and his family were already becoming highly critical of such a woman and were not unduly perturbed when they found she had fled to join the Christians. It was a good riddance (Achebe 151). Because Nneka could no longer fulfill her role as a mother in Ibo society, she was no longer respected. She was not valued for her intelligence or her personality. She was valued by whether or not she could produce healthy children. Because she couldn t, she no longer had a place in her society. In Heart of Darkness women are not paid much attention beyond that of Kurtz s mistress and his fiancee. The only other women mentioned in the novel are the two ladies knitting with skeins of black wool, and the narrator s aunt, who got him his job with the Company. • 11. Hero Definition Essay Definition Essay Think about people who deserve status as heroes from the past, from the present, from life, and from literature. What defines a hero? Write a multi paragraph essay that develops your definition of heroism. Be sure to use strategies of definition (function, example, and negation) to guide your writing What do you think defines a hero, what do you think makes a hero a hero? A hero is strong, courageous but never weak or cowardly. Heroes are good for being strong, they are meant to help people and be courageous no matter what. A hero can be anyone from a firefighter to a grandparent. Common misconceptions with heroes are that people think that they have to wear capes or that they have to be/look physically strong. Those who were out shopping for Christmas presents I found complained more, as if they were hoping for a special deal due to the holiday. One customer I overheard stated, she is crazy to think I am going to spend $50 on one pair of yoga pants, I ll go to Target and get a pair for $20 instead. I did not hear many consumers ask about prices, Victoria s Secret tags every product with a price, so consumers are aware of the price as they browse. I decided to tag along with Lesnick and observe what kind of questions she was asked, or how she was treated when she would approach a customer. The retail staff was very friendly, and helpful. I did observe that many consumers were annoyed of this; I witnessed one customer who was approached by six sales associates. She finally threw her hands up and said, I really am okay, no I do not need any help picking out underwear for myself, and no I do not need a basket, and yes I have already read the signs saying Buy on bra get the other 50% off, and she walked to the register very angry. • 13. Joseph Campbell Monomyth Myths and stories about great heroes serve to let people realize the hero potential that they have in themselves. It has always been the prime function of mythology and rite to supply the symbols that carry the human spirit forward, in counteraction to those that tend to tie it back. (Campbell, The Hero with a Thousand Faces) Joseph Campbell, an American mythologist, developed the idea of monomyth, which is the theory that all myths are variations of the same story. He believed that everyone has the potential to be a hero, and that heroes all follow the same journey described in the monomyth theory. The idea of monomyth states that no matter what time period, the journey for a hero will be very similar. Campbell s theory can be seen in traditional myths, such as the Anglo Saxon tale of Beowulf, and also in the lives of contemporary heroes such as Martin Luther King Jr. Beowulf and Martin Luther King Jr. both fit the profile for a hero and their journey is laid out similarly to the monomyth steps of departure, initiation and the return. The departure phase of monomyth is the starting point to a hero s story, it is the key moment when he or she is taken out of their own familiar world. The people of Taiwan were under control of the KMT military forces and Chiang was the cause of hundreds of bloody and violent deaths. Throughout the dance she is holding two other masks and alternately covers her face with them as she swirls, bends and crosses the stage. The masks change with such fluidity you would hardly notice, even the type of masks and the character they express; happy, fearful and angry. For me she was almost telling Macbeths prophecy. All of the elements of this production made it a continuous seamless, ever growing, rhythmic sweep , especially the final scene when Au Shu is up on his perch telling his soldiers they cannot lose as the prophet told him so, unless the forest moves. It was then that his own soldiers fire arrows at him creating a slow death with Au Shu doing a back flip from a raised level to stage level in full view. It was incredible and symbolized his fall from grace. His own soldiers took Macbeths head and brought it to the rebel army to save themselves as they could see Macbeth had gone mad. It was certainly a tragedy, from start to finish the psychological and emotional values were apparent. Even though the play was in Taiwanese and the subtitles were simple English the two different styles blended together so nicely that the relationship, goals, the guilt and fear then the demise of the Macbeths was created with such an ... Tips on Looking for the Best Tactical Flashlight h3 Streamlight 69260 TLR 1 HL High Lumen Rail Mounted Tactical Light /h3 The Streamlight 69260 TLR 1 HL Rail Mounted Tactical Light is a compact and lightweight flashlight that fits easily on many different firearms, but it may be the best tactical flashlight choice for those with handguns due to its small size and weight. This particular light is made of anodized aircraft aluminum, which allows it to be both light weight and very durable. This tactical flashlight is praised for its extremely high brightness, allowing it to easily cut through even the harshest of darkness in emergency situations. This brightness is achieved through the use of numerous powerful LED lights that deliver 630 lumens of light, which is more than bright enough to blind or stun enemies if needed. Traditional batteries are the power source of choice for the Streamlight 69260, and the average battery life is about and hour and 15 minutes of continuous use. While there are many benefits to this light, you should always keep the negatives in mind when searching for the best tactical flashlight. The most common complaint is that, despite the fact that LED lights run cooler than incandescent bulbs, the light gets incredibly hot when active for more than a few minutes. The heat is also not contained to the glass or front of the light. The entire unit heats up extremely quickly. • 19. Solution Focused Brief Therapy Essay Introduction The emergence of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) marked a changing of the guard within the realm of psychotherapy. For the previous century, the profession had been dominated by theories and practices, which was focused on unearthing a client s repressed memories or family issues in hopes of identifying cracks in their mental and/or their emotional foundation that needed to be fixed. The change in perspective and approach presented by Steven de Shazer and his counterparts provided therapist and clients alike an opportunity to center in on the presenting issue, instead of prolonging the process in search of hidden truths. While de Shazer presented an alternative thought process to the therapeutic process, his model was the culmination of various therapist and models continuing to push the envelope. Historical Background The American psychiatrist, Milton Erickson had been credited as one of the pioneers for stepping away from conventional thinking. He suggested therapy must be intensive and required a long term commitment. In fact, his stance of successful therapy often did not necessitate a lengthy therapeutic relationship along with a small change by the client was the catalyst needed to bring about larger change are both cornerstones in SFBT (Visser, 2013). They believed that the personal worth of the particular individual, the centrality of human values, and the creative and active nature of human beings was what defined the person (McLeod, 2007). Basically, the humanistic approach, according to Abraham Maslow, was that humans are born good and that human nature is compassionate and positive (Larsen Buss, 2012). Both the psychoanalytic and humanistic theories differ from one another in multiple ways. One of the most prominent differences is their view on human nature. As mentioned above, Freud and his psychoanalytic concept, viewed humans as inherently bad. The id, he defined, operated solely on the pleasure principle, craving immediate gratification without consideration about moral values and the harm it could cause (McLeod, 2008). He also believed that the ego and the superego was the minds way of controlling the id ((Lahey, 2009; Larsen Buss, 2012; McLeod, 2008). In contrast, humanistic psychologists viewed human nature as fundamentally good. Maslow had a positive view on men, believing that each had the ability to grow and mature into proper beings, and make use of their full potential (Boeree, 2000 Larsen Buss, 2012). However, before you can get to all that fun stuff, you have to wander around the store with all of the other people in your boat, get your food, and get home. It s a long process, figuring out what brand you want, what s the better deal, and what you will need throughout the week. As you approach the produce section, you see something odd. It looks like an apple, but what is it called? A Grapple? What is that? You decide that it s worth looking into, so you put the pack of four into your cart and carry on. Later, ... Fast forward to 1953, when two scientists, James Watson and Francis Crick, discovered DNA s actual structure. Later this will be very important in helping scientists learn how to isolate and take specific genes from one plant in order to combine with others. 1982 was an important year because it was when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first GMO, a diabetes medicine called Humulin. This was a big step for GMOs, as it gave the go ahead to pharmaceutical companies that may have been hesitant to get involved with GMOs. Also the 1980s was full of tests to see if GMO food crops were actually safe to consume, which brings us to the 1990s. In 1992 the FDA determined that they have no basis to conclude that bioengineered foods are any different from foods developed from traditional plant breeding. In 1994 the first GMO food the Flavr Savr tomato which was genetically altered to have a longer shelf life was approved. The demand for the fruit was high, but due to high production costs the tomato never made much profit. Also in 1994, Monsanto, a multinational agricultural biotechnology company, introduced a genetically modified bovine growth hormone that could be injected into cows to increase milk production. Two years later in 1996, Monsanto introduced Roundup Ready Soybeans, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Robert Duncan Poetry Analysis Within this course, the ideas of the involvement of the mythological and the modern have been searched for throughout various types of literature. We have analyzed poems, essays, theatrical plays and even graphic novels to see the origin of their creative success among the masses. After studying these pieces and their formal elements, we can see that most literature falls under classic mythological premises such as ideas of a higher power/collective mind, power/wisdom through dream and the purity/unforeseen knowledge of children. These ideas seem to be something that is only really recognized by poets. The poem Often I Am Permitted To Return To A Meadow by Robert Duncan uses all of these elements. Within this poet s work we see he composes a strong relationship between myth and modern day with classical ideas, a powerful quality that makes a great poet. The idea of a higher power or a collective mind is nothing new to humanity. The idea is as old as humanity itself and is displayed in many modern practices and creations. The classic idea of a higher power is most widely associated with religion. In every religion of any time period there was some belief of a higher power or collective mind. From the polytheistic Greeks to the monotheistic Christians a higher power is focused upon to explain things that were not yet comprehended. Robert Duncan continues this tradition by including this idea in his opening line to start the entire poem of with its classic sense. He begins ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Brain Stimulation Experiment In this experiment to find out the effect that stimulation has on the brain fuction of young kids/test subjects. The independent variable was the environment that the rats were placed into. Also the ambience of the cages were also altered for the outcome of the experiment. These changes were crucial to the experiment because it symbolizes the different atmospheres a child can grow up in and how the presence of or lack of stimulating objects can affect the child s brain development. The dependent variable which is what was measure was amount of cell growth in the brain of the rats as well as the levels of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase which is located in the brain. This is able to speed up transmission of impulses through brain cells which means that the more of this enzyme found, the more advanced brain function the rat has. Another dependent variable was whether the rat s brain was smooth or if it had more complex folds which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to having had no inside sources affect with the aftereffect of the experiment. The internal validity in this study was the code numbers on the rats when they were looking for results this was important because this way no one was able to try to look for ordinary things that would normally be missed; but since the scientist knew what he was looking for he found it and because of that it wouldn t be valid results. The external validity was that the sample sizes of the experiment made sure it wasn t a one time fluke that even after doing it with many different rats the results were still the same. They also used rats from the same litter to make sure the rats were as similar as possible to further increase validity. This also means that someone at a different lab would be able to recreate the experiment. Without out being able to recreate it the results would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
